How do I reset my network paths

Q: How do I reset my network paths

On my main PC i am running Windows 7 Homepremium 64bit. My Pc is connected via ethernet cable to BT Homehub3.

I have another PC running Windows XP SP3 connected via WiFi and a laptop also Wndows XP and connected vis WiFi.

I have a Kodak C110 AiO printer connected to the home pc via USB cable.

I have tried to set up printing on the other PC and laptop and the Printer is shown in the network map, but cannot and all my efforts have now disrupted the network; viz I cannot access shared files on the Network.

On the Home PC the network is called Network 2.

I want it to be the Homegroup or Work Group but cannot seem to make this happen.

Any suggestions please?

A: How do I reset my network paths

If I take it you want to print on the main PC from the other two ? I have a similar situation and set it up giving the main PC a fixed IP and then when adding the printer to the other two I used the local port method i.e \\fixed IP address\printer share name, having initially shared the main printer - you will need to install the printer driver on the remote systems. My main PC is ethernet and all the others are wireless.

Hope this is of help.

I mistakenly deleted the contents of a user's account folder and was unable to replace the sub-folders manually or by pasting empty ones from another account. If I try to use the account to save files, I just get an error message saying that the folder xxx or file path doesn't exist, depending on where I am trying to save them. This is not just a long filename error and I am afraid that I have caused problems for the user that would affect any Windows 8 account he opens in future, because of Microsoft syncing. What do you suggest?

A:How to reset a user's deleted sub-folders/file paths?

Do you mean you've deleted the entire user folder in the root of C:\Users?

If so, just forget about it, unless you need to restore actual data. Simply create a new user after deleting the old one:

Code:
net user /delete DeletedUserNameHere

You can see the list of user names with

Code:
net user

I bought a Windows 8 laptop, ASUS Q500A, and reformatted it with Windows 7.
I went into the BIOS and used "Restore Defaults" and now all Boot Option Priorities are deleted.

Each time I boot the laptop, it automatically goes to BIOS (or UEFI).

I tried inserting the Windows 7 disc so I can access Startup Repair or Command Prompt but it freezes before it could get anywhere even when I tried it with an external CD/DVD drive.

I cannot get the laptop to boot to the hard drive or CD drive at all,
please tell me how I can reset the boot option priorities so it will be boot to the hard drive again.

Thank you.

A:Boot priorities and paths deleted after BIOS reset to default.

A Win8 PC needs Secure Boot turned off to Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7.

If this fails or you'd prefer it you can Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7

Please can anyone tell me is there a way to reset the java settings so that the paths etc. are ack at their original position thank you P.S i already tried reinstalling java

A:[SOLVED] Reset all java settings and paths to original position

Hello JoeLAD, welcome to TSF!

I'd suggest completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Java JRE in it's default location. Example: C:\Program Files\Java.

Afterwords, from what your trying to fix, you'll need to manually setup your system environment variables so that it will locate what it requires from the JRE. Please refer to this link for instructions to setup the environment variable to locate where your JRE is installed on your system.

If this wasn't helpful, please say so.

Love 7 so far! But today I needed to access a share (\\servername\share) but when I went to type it, it came up cannot connect. We're on a domain with AD, and noticed in eventvwr that GP not processing:

The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\internal.domain\SysVol\internal.domain\Policies\{5682A7A2-6BAE-4655-8DB6-7CAF8ECC6042}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.

Also would not map network drives. Anyways, ended up doing a system restore to a known working point in time, and that seemed to work, until I rejoined the computer to domain (since it had lost the trust relationship because of the system restore), but after a few group policies processed, and a couple critical updates were installed, it broke again. So now I unplug from the network at bootup, login, then plug network back in, and it seems to be a workaround for now, but hopefully it's only a temporary one. Anyone have any ideas?

A:Network paths (UNC \\server) broke

I would check DNS and that your clock is set to match your domain controller.

Hey Techspot,
The other computers in my network have trouble accessing certain shared folders on my main computer. I have three drives installed, C: my OS drive, and D: and B: file drives. My C: Public folder, another folder on C: and my entire D: drive have been shared for a long time, and are the only paths the other computers can access. Anything I try to share now (except stuff on the D: drive, since the entire thing is share-enabled) will return the "is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource." error.
I can understand why a computer in it's entirity wouldn't be accessible across a network, but as to why certain locations wouldn't work - some on the same drive as locations that do work - I'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance!

I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
[email protected]:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
[email protected]:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

AVG 2011 free AV. BT ISP, connected via ethernet cable to Netgear router. No problems installing Windows 7/32, and installing Adobe, AVG, and Win 7 SP1 initially

Date on PC is correct. This is a wired network using the onboard nic. Started off by seeing security certificate errors. When trying a different router saw in the network and sharing centre that there was no connection to the internet, however strange as it seems I was connected and could do limited surfing, but couldn't for example download Itunes. I then noticed that the network was defined as public. No other PCs on the network now, but XP laptops have been able to connect to the net okay

I have been able to change this to work, but PC now won't see the router - when I enter ipconfig, I do not have any connectivity at all.

I have also tried using the netsh command to reset int ip and winsock which were okay but still no joy. Maybe I need to undertake things in a different order, perhaps while not connected?

I would really like to go back to starters amd start over, but while on wireless one can do this, there appears no easy way to reset the wired network settings back to original.

Any ideas?

My computer won't connect to the internet right now. My router shows that the internet is connected, but my computer says there is a network connection problem.

I want windows to start over and create a new network. This is my problem.

If I right click on the network icon in the taskbar and open "Network & Sharing Center" it opens and I click on "Connect to a network" it opens a window in the taskbar giving me an option to open the network & sharing center?! Which just starts the cycle over again.

I wan't to be able to see the network that windows has set up and delete it or create a new one but can't seem to figure it out. Win7 is too user friendly now that I can't find any of the advanced controls? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was networked to my office Desktop PC from this laptop and this weekend, I tried to connect to my wifes laptop at home by using the connect network wizard. Needless to say that I was unsuccessful in trying to see my wifes laptop over the wireless network.

I went to work today and tried to connect to my desktop via My Network Places and I kept getting a message that the path was unavailable and that I may not have the proper permissions... My office network is not on any domain, just the default WORKGROUP and I usually have to type in a username and password to get access into the shared folders on either machine.

Is there any way to reset the settings that I have configured in the wizards to the WindowsAP Pro default since I was able to network before I started witht the wizards?

Hi,

I have a Vaio laptop running Vista. We have an internet package that includes TV. We have had some router problems recently so I have disconnected the router and have been using my Palm Pre with the "mobile hotspot" activated to connect with the internet. I works very well! The connection is strong and it's fast. I think I'm going to discontinue the internet service and save some money....but I have one hang up that I can't figure out. Every time I connect through my phone, I have to go through a "wizard" that "resets my network address" in order to complete my connection to the internet. Is their something that I can do to avoid this process every time I want to get on the internet via my phone?

I have many issues with my home network that i cant find any solutions to and they seem to be getting worse with time. Before i go into describing everything that is going on and the routers connected i just wanted to ask if there is a way to just reset everything altogether. I was even thinking about formatting and clean installing everything from beginning but that will take me ages and i would really want to avoid that.

New to PC and first post here.
Using Win. 7 Ultimate 32 bit, Intel 1.73Ghz T2080 chip
2 GB memory.

Using IE 9. Mostly ok but seems as tho more frequently I get the yellow triangle no connection, so I diagnaose and repairs( fixed ) and all is ok.

I looked at Devince manager/Network Adapator Atheros wireless connection/driver details and I'm using Atheros 8.0.0.225 Built by winddk.

I went to atheros adaptors page
DriverMax - Network Adapters - TP-LINK - Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter Computer Driver Updates

And I see that my adaptor is made for the 64 bit Win 7, and the one for my 32 bit is 8.0.0.228 not the .225 one I mention above and is my current driver.

The obvious answer is to inload the .229 driver for my 32 bit system.

Since I'm reltively new to PC's, I wanted to see if any here might have some knowlege in this area before attempting this.

I guess and additional question, would be, can I have both drivers installed and one be the active one and the other not?

Thanks ahead of time. Not sure if the problem is becoming more frequent or just certain web sites cause it to dissconnect or cause take to long at one site...I dunno and maybe nobody knows for sure.

Now I will check and make sure I am suscribed to this thread I've started.

Today I was working for a couple of hours without any problems on my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, processing many files and saving them over my network folders.

Suddenly, at one point, when I was about to save a file over a network folder, the system asked me whether I want to turn file sharing and network discovery on.

Hmmm... I believe I had set it up many weeks ago right after system installation and haven't touched it since then. I've also noticed that my LAN network status was somehow changed to "Public" (the same happened to my Kaspersky Internet Security firewall settings related to networks, but as far as I know it reads those information from the system settings).

Can such things happen like that? I know it is possible to manually change network type and turn on/off files sharing and network discovery but I haven't do so for sure. I don't thing there's a hotkey combination that does so and I could select it accidentally. Thus, I believe the system might have changed / reseted it by itself, but... it's simply odd.

A:Can network type reset when working?

Most likely Kasperksy got amnesia. Possible that it updated, which caused this. I really do not see a need to use a firewall on your personal LAN, when behind a NAT or decent router with good firewall rules. It is really overkill on a personal LAN, to use a product like this. Now if the unit is going to be used off of the LAN. Then yes by all means use the Firewall, when on Public networks.

here is what a symantec employee told me

Ok, from the information you've sent me, it looks like your network stack is being reset approximately every two hours. As the stack is rebuilt, various pieces of information about network become available over time. As each piece becomes available, NIS it treats the new result as a new network, that's why you get a few network discovery events over a relatively short period of time. It also explains why you see occasionally slow network traffic; the network stack is being rebuilt.

What I don't understand is why the network stack is being reset. This doesn't seem like anything malicious but may be due to faulty hardware on your machine or, more likely, some scheduled program or task running on your machine. It could also be due to plugging certain devices into a USB port.

I have NOTHING plugged into usb, no self installed software running and this is a 3 month old machine. The only thing plugged in (through ethernet) Is my vonage V-Portal wich I use for voip

Someone please help me

I believe I messed up the network settings on my machine (not via the router, but via control panel, when you right click on the Local Area Connection>Properties>IPv4/IPv6, and some more places, I can't remember and that's the problem)

Another thing is, when I type ipconfig /all, I see that DHCP is not enabled, and I remember it used to be enabled. (In IPv4 and IPv6 properties, everything is set to automatically.. so I dont know why)
web pages take too long to load (40 Mbps connection, the rest of computers on the network are surfing the web fast)

I also get an error a few times a day, where the little symbol of the LAN in the taskbar has a yellow exclamation mark, and I need to right click and do the Troubleshoot problems, and at the end I always get "The default gateway was not available". and it's fixed, but keeps coming back.

I tried something I found on Microsoft help page, and ran the following cmd: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

That didn't help

I'm not a big fan of the "Troubleshooting" options for network connections in W7 because, simply, they kinda suck.

Back in XP, when your network went down, due to lost power, or having to reset your router or modem, it was simple enough to tell it to repair, which would always reset the network adapter, to force a fresh connection, but I can't seem to find a way to just reset the network adapter. Did they take this feature out when they added the troubleshooting tool?

Honestly, they troubleshooting tool can take forever to "find the problem," even when I already know what's wrong and that a simple reset will solve the problem, not to mention sometimes it just decides that it's just not even going to try to reset the adapter.

I know I can always disable and enable the connection, but it's not the same right click the icon in the tray and select repair that it used to be. It gets annoying having to jump through hoops to do something that used to be two simple clicks, mostly trying to fix other people's computers.

A:Force Reset Network Adapter?

Anyone able to answer this? I have the exact same problem. Happens within an hour of starting my computer and I have to use Win Network Diag, which checks EVERYTHING, saving the actual problem (reset network adapter) until last- which then solves the issue.

IS there any way to just force a network reset? I used to just unplug my USB network adapter and plug it back in, but it eventually screwed up my modem IP (long story) so I can't do that anymore.

I am running win7 x64 ultimate. I set a MAC address in the bios and somehow Windows has saved it somewhere. I have deleted the device in device manager and when it was redetected it was still there. I have reset the bios to defaults but when I run 'ipconfig /all' the MAC is still there. How can I get rid of it?

A:How can I delete/reset MAC of network adapter?

Your problem is not addressed clearly.Atleast to me it is not clear.

First, it is for the first time I am hearing the Mac address being set in the BIOS. Can you explain how was it set in the BIOS?

Second, what exactly is the device? Name/manufacturer/Model

Third, why do you want to change/reset the Mac Address? ( Yep, it may be possible to reset the Mac Address and I had discussed this matter with NoelDP long back on a different context but I would like to know why you want to change/reset it. What exactly is your problem that necessitates such a change?)

Hello,

I have an issue where everytime I reset my netbook, it won't connect to my wireless network. In order to fix it, I figured out that I have to go to control panel-> system-> device manager -> select my wireless adapter-> go to advanced tab-> and click on Network Address, and choose the radio button Not Present. It seems to get stuck on a network address and I have to do this everytime manually, which is quite annoying. Any idea on what could be causing this or how to maybe make a startup .bat that could do this for me automatically?

Thanks!

A:Network Address always needs to be reset on startup

Can you make that "network address" change in safe mode?

Not nearly enough information to offer a real suggestion, but the multiple WAPs don't figure into this issue.

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop that has built in wireless, i have a Belkin N Wireless router. My main computer is hard wired and works great. My laptop on the other hand has to be reset like this every day after i shut it down. Does anyone know why this would keep happening?

On the Laptop go to Network and internet connection.
Right click Wireless connection and click properties.
On the top of the properties window look for 3 tabs ( General, Wireless Networks and advanced). If Wireless Networks isn’t there you need to go to WZC ( Wireless Zero Configuration ), to get there go to
Start then click RUN, type in Services.MSC in the run window & Click OK. You will get Services local” window, scroll down to the bottom and double click “ Wireless Zero Configuration” Make sure that start type is set to Automatic and service status should be started, then click apply or OK.
Minimize the services window and open network connections window again. Right click on Wireless Connection and click Properties. Now there should be 3 tabs. Select the Wireless Network tab, Click the box to use windows to configure my Wireless Connection. Remove all network names from “Preferred Network”, Right click on Wireless Connection and click View available Wireless Network, Highlight your connection name and click connect. Type in your Key / Password from your router.

Hi kpfarrell, and welcome to TSG.

Are you able to log into the administration pages of your wireless access point (router, modem, etc.)? That should let you look at the current WiFi settings, including the current wireless encryption key.

Dear fellows,

Need help on following.

My laptop (win7 x64) was working fine with web based email solution and internet connection via wireless router, using my lsptop wireless card.

Then one day, I made a server, 2008 R2, connected using hardwire with my laptop, putting a switch in between that connects the server, the wireless router and my laptop. Disabled the wireless card on my laptop.

My laptop connects and disconnects LAN connection repeatedly now. I have tried putting the static IP and also using the DHCP (by wirless router) on the network card of the computer.

My laptop is now a part of the local server domain. My laptop has got VMware installed, I have also tried using its LAN setting, same result observed (the OS on VMware is not part of the local domain controller).

Every thing works fine with the wireless card, but not with the LAN card.

Following is the ipconfig/all result:

My stats...use Dell Ins 6000 with XP media center....been scanned for viruses and adware/spyware and clean. Intel Proset 2915 wireless card. Downloaded most recent drivers and software. have same problems if use windows or intel software to manage connection. Have set power mgment to high on card config. i gain access through to internet through SPOTON networks, wireless service in my apartment building, using "g" signal. Have contacted them and they say no issues.

I am wondering if its my card or if it is their service. Any ideas, its very frustrating. Is there a program to test my card? It pings fine, but any size of file the connection fails. I do not have to reset it, just click a page/download again and it starts....but then disconnects again, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Is this a desktop or a laptop? Any chance of testing this in a different location? How about having a friend bring a laptop over and testing the connection with a different machine? You need to isolate if this is their wireless service or your machine first.

I can compose and send a limited e-mail message. If I go over that limit, I get this error message: Network Error: Connection reset by peer. (I've seen that message in connection to downloading. My problem is uploading.)

I went to the PC Pitstop web site so they could scan for problems. They scanned my computer. But I couldn't send them the results of their scan. This message remained on the screen: Status: Sending results to PC Pitstop ....

When this problem first occurred and I contacted my ISP. The tech said they brought something new online about 9 a.m. that morning. Now they say that didn't happen and the problem is not them, it's my computer.

I have reformatted and reinstalled my operating system, Windows 2000 Pro, and the modem driver. And there was no upload problem. Then I installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and the problem returned. I've had Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 on my computer for about a year before this problem began. (This is NOT Windows XP SP2)

What's causing this problem?

I recently downloaded malware while searching for a CD-key generator for Neverwinter Nights 2. After the initial download it began downloading unusual programs, deleting programs I had installed, like Chrome, interfering in my ability to download Malwarebytes (did not have a virus protection installed beforehand), and taking over network controls through a group policy. Whilst trying to set up a wireless connection on my PC, i inadvertently set up a network with my PC. not knowing what i had done.
I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in.
I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working.

i cannot get into my computer!

is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none!

this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.

can someone please help?!?

hi and good day

I have a pc with shared folders, sharing it to over 30 units, windows xp has limit the network connections to 10 so if it reach the limit no more computer will allow to connect to my pc. how can i reset the connection without restarting my pc or resetting my router?

btw all computers are connected via switches which are connected to the router.

thanks

A:Reset All Active Network Conections w/o restarting PC

The connection limit is there to force you to use a real server. Ms wants that to be server 2003 or something similarly expensive.

Build a linux (ubuntu) box from something too old to be an xp box and share the drive from there. No limit on connections.

The original question may or may not be answered in the generic interpretation by "ipconfig /?" But is unlikely to reset what you need.

So, now I need to reset the network security key...

I did a bit of research and discovered most similar situations suggested I reset the router. I checked your forums and was unable to find any for my particular router brand (apologies if I missed it). I just want to make sure I do it right and dont end up locked out of my internet It is vital we keep connected for our pos terminal. Is resetting the router the best way to go...or if not what else should I do and how? Please let me know the best way I should go about doing this.

If you still have the router login password, you should
be able to login to the router and check the wireless
security settings.
There should be a checkbox or selection that says
show password so it is not displayed as all stars,
You can also change it on that page.
The encpryption key is for network connections.
The login password is for the router.

Hi all
I have this particular problem which showed at the same time when I installed Norton Ghost 14.0.
Last night I bough WD 1TB My Book external hard drive and decided to do a back up.
Funny thing was that I was getting an error that NG has lost connection to a server?
and could not complete a back up. Tried few times and same error appeared. Hard drive was in FAT32 partition so this morning I though I will reformat that drive to NTFS (took 11 hours) and to try again.
This time I did not receive any errors as in lost connection to a server but my internet connection was lost. So Vista Ultimate has detected a problem and reset my network driver (Realtek).
This was not happening before. Coincidence?Maybe but I don't believe it is.
Is there an option to be selected not to switch internet or something?
Running Vista Ultimate 64, Q6600 4Gb Ram dual boot ( 2HD XP and Vista)

anyone else experienced similar? Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi.

I had this problem for a while and thought it was due to the network adapter, got a different one (USB external wifi adapter) and problem persists.

Adobe flash player(youtube, ted talks etc) is notorious for causing this. I would try to watch a video and not that it is very slow to open, it buffers about 10sec and then stops, I usually loose all connectivity at this point and sometimes it will recover but usually I need to either switch or reset network adapter, then its very fast till it happens again.

I also should mention that I tried updating that flash player multiple times but it always prompts me before a content loads due to it being outdated... there is never error during update it states it is updated, so unless adobe releases updates every few hours there is something f%^&y going on

specs:
64bit Win 7 SP1
i7 3770k
16gb ram
gtx780
intel z77 by asrock
ssd drive

adapters:
1- Qualcomm Atheros AR9285
2- Realteck RTL8187 USB 2.0 (802.11b/g 54Mbps)

I tried using alternative browser (i use FF) but it is even slower, more DCs. I would not like to use Chrome however and i do not have it installed.

any help is greatly appreciated as I am getting really frustrated with this.

A:Losing connectivity, need to frequently reset network adapter.

Hi Royroy,
I'm another car mechanic,
Its possible that this is related to your earlier thread.
Now that adapter is from a laptop, if its installed in your desktop, according to your specs, it might be that its pulling the wrong voltage, and shutting down to protect itself.
However that does not apply to the Realtek device.
There are various fix's that appear on the net
Dissable ipv6
Change the security setting to WPA2
Change the current channel, use auto if possible.
Review the settings in the driver Advanced options,
Then the obvious
Update wifi drivers and Bios

Flash player update is being stopped by IE or group policy settings

Suggest you also run sfc /scannow

I have a bizarre problem on Windows 7. Whenever I start up from a shutdown or hibernation or wake the computer from sleep, my Network Profiles (under Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Wireless Connections) reset to some previous state from about six
months ago. As my wireless passwords have been changed since, this keeps me from connecting to a wifi network. Generally, just deleting this network profile and attempting to reconnect has about a 30% success rate, otherwise I have to put the computer back
to sleep or reboot and try again.
Has anyone seen behavior like this before, or have any idea how I could mitigate this problem? I'm about at my wits' end.
Many thanks in advance,

2 Questions Actually

1) I have a Lynksys wireless router system, and im not sure if this is supposed to do this or not, but the WLAN and Internet LEDS are flickering like mad.

I only say this because my Internet has been acting inconsistent, even though i have full signal. Little hitches in gaming, sometimes internet randomly disconnects tho i am still on the network. Are the LEDs supposed to do that? If so wat does it mean?

2) The other thing is that stupidly i think i reset my router and now my normal network is no longer availabe to be connected. All the PCs are now connected to a normal "lynksys" network, so i can still get the internet, but its not password protected nor encrypted and can be easily accessed from anyone on the outside.

I went to the lynkys support center and they pretty much told me how to change router settings. Is that wat i have to do to restore my old network or is there some WIndows XP utility i can use? None of the PCs recognize my old network, they only can "see" the "lynksys" network, but i need the old network settings back on, i need the computers to be able to connect to it.

I also tried the router's software CD, but thats only for establishing connection between the [main?]computer and the router, which is already good.

Keep in mind the main computer is a laptop (a DELL inspiron) and thats the one we did all the settings on. I think its the "host" comptuer (if thats what u call i... Read more

A:Network reset to "linksys" network

1. Yes, when lights blink quickly (and what seems random) all is good in the world
=> If you see them blinking at a steady on/off rate or in a pattern with other lights, you gotsa problem

2. A router arrives with factory installed settings. Someone must have set it for you initially cuz when you reset it and it went back to factory settings, you stuff doesn't work (e.g. you can assign a name to your wirelss network. "linksys" is the default name you now see

3> Who set it up for you the first time? And i'd expect the router software CD to help set it up. It will first have you connect a reliable wire connection router <-> PC so as you change wireless settings you can still always talk to router on reliable wired connection

I did not know which forum to post in for my problem. Sorry if this is the wrong one.

I recently tried to relocate my data folders and something went wrong. When I was done I had dble folders. This is a picture of the results.
Attachment 171583

I moved them back to it's original place. I want to be able to move them a separate partician. I know that the problem has something to do with paths being incorrect.

When I click on the start menu and on my username icon it opens up my real user folders and not Libraries. I wonder if this is a clue. I have returned the start menu customizations to default and it still opens my user folders. Can someone help me figure this out?

Thanks.

A:Need to fix folder Paths.

Hi ariel5345

Have a look at this - Start Menu User Folder Buttons - Open to Users Instead of Libraries The second set of .reg files will reset your start menu open locations.

This should help put your user folders back to their default location - User Folders - Restore Default Location

Follow this excellent tutorial to help move your user folders successfully - User Folders - Change Default Location

All,

Looking for a way to add a single file to an existing .ZIP file, but need to specify the path within the existing file structure.

Example - I ZIP a directory and it's subs with all of their files. It has about 6 different subs and each of them have up to 10 subs of their own.
C:\WEBSHARE\WWWROOT\PE\SUB1\file1.asp

I need to add 1 single file and tell it that the path I want it to go to is:
C:\WEBSHARE\WWWROOT\PE\SUB1\file2.asp

BUT - the file is not coming from the same directory on the system being used to create the ZIP.

Please help.

Thanks,
Shaun

I check this out on net. Download the required isscript.msi, which should automatically install the required installshield again. But then i get it automatically pointing towards my old hd

---- Error 1327. Invalid Drive: G:\

Can someone please help me understand whats wrong and how to find a solution?

Hey:

I'm trying to enter a registry value. However, the place to enter it is dimmed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\

When I right click App Paths "New" appears and should allow me to left click on "Key". However, "Key" is dimmed so I cannot select it.

I am the admin and logged in as such. I have XP Pro SP3 installed.

How do I make "Key" available?

Thx

A:How to make xp app paths key available

Sounds like a permissions issue of some kind.

Right click App Paths then click Permissions
Administrators and System should have Full Control and Read access, Power Users should have Read and Special, and Users should have Read access. Creator Owner should have Special. These should all be greyed out, meaning they are inherited.

I am trying to show a friend how to use a used computer he purchased recently. I have done some exploring in his files and folders. My experience is limited to XP only; so some things look different to me. I found this path: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\services.exe which seems odd. Is a temp folder where Vista would place services.exe, or does this indicate a problem?

A:Paths , Librabries ?

You need to remember that library's only point to the actual file somewhere on the network or on your own machine in the "user" files. If you need to delate something from the library you should delate the file from the actual source "my pictures" My documents" "my music".

But there is a way to make it work like you want.

Just go into Windows Media Player, choose the "organize" tab then "options" then choose the Library tab and set it to "delate files from the computer when delated from the Library. Although I believe that only works if you are delating files from Library of the machine that contains the source files.

That should allow for delating from the Library, but only from the machine that the files reside on, I don't believe it will work accross the network. It think it still works best if you delate from the file source instead of the Library.

I'm writing a batch file which calls a 32 bit .exe program. I want it to be compatible with the different Windows operating systems. The problem is that the path to "Program Files" is different depending which OS is being used. For instance:

I know the paths for these OS' since I use them:
- WinXP 32 bit: C:\Program Files\
- Vista 64 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\

Could some kind souls please tell me what the 32bit paths are for:
- WinXP 64 bit:
- Vista 32 bit:

And for Windows 7 also would be nice:
- Win7 32 bit:
- Win7 64 bit:

Thanks!

Thanks,

royeo

A:How do you interpret paths like C:\DOCUME~1\...

Hi.

This kind of path is contraction of the real folder or file names so that they are compatible with the old 8.3 DOS filename format. I don't know why it is necessary, but in (my) theory it works this way:
Long names are stripped of all spaces, even between words.
If the resulting string, without extension, is longer than 8 characters, the 6 leftmost characters are taken and an index appended, to distinguish between similar names.
So "ASDFGHJKLQWE" becomes "ASDFGH~1" while ASDFGHJKLRTZ" becomes "ASDFGH~2"

So the one you submitted translates to something like

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp
Where username is different for each user of the computer.

I can't figure out how to edit booloader paths.

I had the triple boot working- 7, vista, WUBI ubuntu. Then I installed Snow Leopard and tried to add it in via easyBCD.....and all hades broke loose.

Anybody know how to fix? And how to actually set OSX to boot from windows, since there's no drive letter?

A:Edit Bootloader Paths

Open an elevated command prompt in Windows 7

IMPORTANT: make a backup of your bcd file first. To do that, type:

Quote:

bcdedit /export C:\SAVEDBCD

For Vista:

Quote:

bcdedit /set {*insert here*} device partition=F:

* insert the Windows vista BCD ID, too small for me to read (take out the *'s)

ok, Vista should be working now, please test it to make sure

For Ubuntu: - optional; this will rename "nst Linux Loader" to "Wubi Ubuntu"

Quote:

bcdedit /set {*insert here*} description "Wubi Ubuntu"

* insert the "nst Linux Loader" BCD ID, too small for me to read (take out the *'s)

It is getting late, so try those, which should get Vista back on its feet, also go to the elevated cmd and type "bcdedit" please post back the results right-click the cmd prompt and select "mark" then highlight every thing, then post the results. Please copy the results, so i will be able to copy and paste

Also, what is the "EFI snow leopard" partition for???

Oplisker (Open Source Play List Maker) | SourceForge.net

How to create m3u file from mp3s in different folders on your computer ?

It seems to only create mp3 playlist only from mp3s in the same folder.

I was interested to create playlist from different folders with different paths
to save to one m3u file, not m3u file in each folder from the mp3s within that folder.

I know I can edit the file so it goes to different paths using notepad, but that would defeat the purpose of this program making it easier to save playlst from diferent mp3s in diffrent folders.

Thanks

Hello! I recently upgraded my computer with an SSD for boot and main programs and use my 1TB HDD for general programs and media storage. The thing is I want it to by default install to my D:\ drive.

Now the only solution I see is editing the registry ProgramFilesDir - Which has some serious flaws. It will attempt to launch every program off of the D:\ drive even when it is stored on C:\ and about 9 out of 10 times, it still default installs to C:\.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

There are still doubts about what the possible and legal upgrade paths are for Windows 7.

Below I tried to compile some information in a way which I hope will be helpful.

Thanks to my friend Kari for his valuable contribution
Any other additions or comments are much welcome

Definitions:
1) Upgrade: to move from Windows XP or Windows Vista to Windows 7
2) Custom or Clean Install: wipes the previous installation and install Windows 7 anew. Does not preserve user files
3) In-Place Upgrade: upgrades from specific versions of Vista to specific versions of Windows 7, preserving user files and programs.
4) Upgrade version: Windows 7 license for those who own a valid license of XP or Vista
5) Full retail version: Windows 7 license to install on any PC, independent of previous installations or ownership. Can be reinstalled on other computers (when activated the previous installation is no longer valid)
6) Full OEM version :Windows 7 license to install on one PC, independent of previous installations. Can only be re-installed on same computer and hardware setup

Upgrade paths
The chart below shows in what situations one can perform an in-place upgrade (e.g. from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional) without the need to migrate files or programs, and the situations when one needs to do a Custom (Clean) Install and replace the data in the target disc. This is the case for all Windows XP owners or Windows Vista Starter. In this case you will need to migrate your personal files ... Read more

Firstly, context: My student edition of Autodesk Maya was not working (something about the license being invalid or 'not found', and so when I searched for the error message online, a solution was to go into Environments and Paths, and replace/edit or add one for C:/Autodesk. It didn't work, and I ended up just uninstalling and reinstalling the program manually for it to work.
However, apparently I screwed around really badly in there, because now important things won't open, such as my MalwareBytes program. When I try, a window will popup and say this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
The system could not find the environment option that was entered."
So, naturally, I try to find/open the Environments and Paths thing again, right? Nope. I can't open that either:
"Windows cannot find '%windir%\system32\SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
Even though I typed 'Environment' in my search bar to find it.
Then recently, Origin tried to install an update on my laptop, but it couldn't find the ProgramFiles, and so there was an error in installation. As a result of this, Chrome is not opening up immediately when I click it. It waits about five-six minutes after I've clicked it. I think it's what caused it, because it didn't do it before yesterday, when I tried to install the update.
So basically: how can I fix this despite knowing little to nothing about computers? How can I go into the Environments with... Read more
