WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Q: WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

A: WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

Hi, new to the site today. Bit frustrated, my sister got a new laptop, the one Im using to post this, and connected straight away to my home wireless, and can also view surrounding connections, (neighbours) etc.

I cant. Its a problem with my mini-card it says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device." However, I clicked to get updated drivers and it said I already had the advanced one?

I called technical support for Dell and because my warranty has expired they want £29 to pay for this solution.

If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 1520. Windows Vista, trying to connect to home wireless and nothing out of the ordinary has happened for this to happen.
Thanks.

Hey Everybody,

I just got my new Dell Inspiron 1721 with Windows Vista and a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card.

The Problem: I can not connect with the Internet via WLA.

I have no problems connecting with the cable. I have tried to connect via WLAN at various locations where I know the notebooks of my fiends and colleges have absolutely no problem.

The Software "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" finds all the networks in the "air" but Windows does not and I can not connect to any of them.

I would be VERY VERY happy if anybody knows a solution to this problems!

Thanks in advance!

Hey all,

I happen to have a Supermicro Mini-ITX motherboard that has a free mini-PCIe slot.

I'm usually vehemently pro wired Ethernet, but in this particular application I just can't find a way to wire things to make it work, so I am considering sticking an Intel 7260 WLAN card in the slot, and using that instead.

The one thing I can't seem to figure out is, what do I use as an antenna? I've only ever used mini WLAN cards in Laptops and all-in-one mini-PC's before, where they come with preinstalled antenna wires that use those tiny little connectors.
I have searched eBay/Amazon/Newegg for 2.4/5.8Ghz wifi antennas, but all of them have the larger BNC type connectors on them, not the tiny little ones that the mini WLAN cards need.

Is anyone familiar with any mini WLAN connector headers or anything like that? Essentially, those BNC-type connectors on one end with a little retention ring, so I can just drill a hole in the case, and tighten them in and connect an external antenna, and those tiny little plugs on the other end.

Or is there another way of accomplishing what I need to do?

Much obliged,
Matt

Hi ssor777 and Welcome to SF,

Is this a work laptop? It is configured in a domain network, it has a DNS suffix of .local.

Another thing...you are using Open DNS's, you may set it back to 'Obtain DNS Server Automatically' from your Wireless setting.

Install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.
Click on the 'Show Networks' to display all wireless networks on the xirrus icon on your desktop if you have one running in a corner. Tap the Printscreen key on your keyboard, open up Paint then choose Edit from the Menu and select Paste, then SAVE it. Upload and attached on your next Post.

Hi:Take a look at device manager, particularly the WLAN card.Any error indicators?
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Also.Go to the Dell site.Search the drivers available for your particular model by inputting the service tag # for your unit.Should be on a side or bottom tag along with model and serial #.This will make it a lot easier to determine the proper driver(s) to download/install

Also,let's see this:

Hello,

I am having a problem which is bugging the bejeezus out of me, and excuse me if this has already been discussed elsewhere (tried to search but didn't find anything relevant).

I have a Dell Latitude D420 with a Dell Wireless 1390 Minicard. The Dell also has its own utility that manages the wireless connection in place of Windows XP.

I currently live in Italy (the computer was purchased in the USA) and am trying to connect to a specific wireless router provided by Fastweb. Fastweb is an Italian ISP that provides its own proprietary router (a Telsey) to use.

Even though I am able to connect to it by wired ethernet, and any other computer/wi-fi enabled device is also able to connect to it wirelessly, my computer just does not pick up the wireless signal from the router.

The strange thing is that when I open the Dell utility and go to the "Site Monitor" tab, the very same router's wireless signal is picked up without fail as a 54 speed at full signal strength.

But when I click on the first tab, the "Wireless Networks" tab and click on "add a network" then it shows a list of available networks-- and the Fastweb router is often not on there! Sometimes it does show up and when I click on it and try to connect, sometimes the signal disappears sometimes it has limited or no connectivity, but never anything consistently close to a stable connection.

When I tried to let Windows manage my wireless connection, the same problem pres... Read more

A:Dell 1390 WLAN Mini-Card unable to recognize specific wireless signal

With the problem being intermittent I doubt that this is the problem, but will plunge ahead anyhow.

I think in Italy the wireless channels are 1-13. If your wireless adapter has a North American driver it should be detecting/using only channels 1-11. If the router in question is using a channel greater than 11 I suggest that you uninstall the wireless adapter and its utility and start over. Make sure you specify the correct region (I think "Europe").

I currently use drivers from 2008:

Driver Version 4.176.75.21 - 10/1/2008

for my Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card.

Whenever I run Microsoft Update it tells me to upgrade to the latest drivers, however, with the newest drivers I experience a SIGNIFICANT drop in throughput- something like from 108 mbps with my current setup to 1-15 mbps with the "updated" drivers.

I'd like to have the most up to date driver, but do not want to limit my Wifi bandwidth either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated-- all my system info *should* be in my profile.

PS I'm a brand new user, so I apologize if this is not a well written post!

A:Updated Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card Worse Connect

If the new driver causes problems and the old one works fine, best to just stick with the old driver. Typically you only need to update your drivers if you are experiencing problems or the new driver adds some functionality. Otherwise it is better to just leave well enough alone. If is listed as an important update, right-click the update and hide it.

If you are set on updating, you can try downloading the driver from the Dell website (link below) and uninstalling the old driver prior to installing the new driver. You can also look at the fixes and enhancements listed on the Dell site to determine if you really need it.

I want to start by saying I have no business trying to fix this on my own but I am determined it has to be something simple! I can not pin point what I did to cause my Wi Fi to stop working or disable.

I have tried all the trouble shooting solutions but unfortunately my magic F8 button will not enable let alone show the option when ghosted! I took my keyboard off and verified the Realtek RTL8191SE is in fact there however next to Network adapters only the PCIe FE Family Controller is listed.

I recently tried to download the Fix offered by Toshiba and Windows, restarted my computer and it is still not recognizing my Wi Fi. Please tell me its an easy fix or just that I need to buy a new card!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated. But please give me the Windows for Dummies version because again I have no clue what I am doing.

Thanks again for any help offered!

Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

Hi

My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Board type is MSI AM1i

Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard

Thanks a lot

^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

When it didnt work, the first thing i tried was to reinstall the drivers (from the recovery cd), but the installation returned the message that wlan probably wouldnt work because the card wasnt connected. the switch for WLAN was turned on. I also tried reinstalling the card from the device manager, that didnt help.

Lastly, i figured that the card might just be defect. so i bought an external card (which i can still return to the store) and installed it. The card i bought was a Belkin Wireless G notebook card. The laptop still cant find any networks. Ive also tried this in different areas which have different networks, so its not encryption or anything like that.

When i run the diagnostic with the Belkin program, i get this:
Loopback-pass
IP-fail
Gateway-fail
DNS-fail
WAN-pass
Heartbeat-pass
Belkin-fail
Yahoo-pass

In Network Connections, the wireless connection is listed as not-connected and firewalled. the other connections (with wires) are connected and firewalled (they work fine). I have tried repairing the network, and it runs through fine until it tried to reconnect, which fails.

Make sure you have the latest XP Intel driver from your PC manufacturer's web site. Before you install that install the latest chipset drivers from there also.

Are you using WZC or the Intel Proset (or another one) to manage the wireless connection? Are you sure that no other utility is running?

Are you sure that there exists a wireless network to detect?

Hello everyone, basicly i have the same problem like this thread here:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/WLAN-driver-won-t-install-HP-14-d003tx... Installed my laptop a new Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, i searched the internet for my laptop drivers and all installed well except for the wireless lan driver. when I installed the WLAN driver it just unloaded its contents and didn't continue installing.. I went to the folder to click on Setup.exe or Install.exe but the Installshield won't continue and won't finish its Loading (Installing green thingy), command prompt will suddenly pops out and close and again, and just nothing happens... As for my laptop network controller hardware id, heres the 4 lines:PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_1483103C&REV_01PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_1483103CPCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280

They keyboard can be difficult to start charging for the first time. Try plugging into the charger with the keyboard docked and turn on. Undock and redock the keyboard, then power off but leave plugged into charger.

As for the WiFI - have you tried pressing fn f2?

'Hello, this is my first post here, so I am sorry if anything is confusing.

The reason why I signed up in this forum is s I can seek help fron those that might know more about computer than me, in order to solve my problem

A few days ago, my laptop was working perfectly fine. But then, I turned my computer off, the next day, everything started up as normal, with Windows 7 Home Premium still in the backgrounds when I am logging in but then, the network connecter won't automatically start. So I was left without internet for a bit. Whats more, I noticed that the taskbar, which was always semi-transparent before, is now white. As well as all the title bars of the programs that I open, turned into blue!

Is computer has always ran Windows 7 as far as I am aware, but e way the taskbar, and the title bars, are behaving, reminds me of windows xp.

I first tried to look up how to solve my wifi problem. I manually opened the network connecter in the control panel, and tried to "Connect to a network". But it didn't detect any wifi servers! Which is odd since I had always used the one my family used, and I am using wifi on that server at this moment!

When I tried to use troubleshoot on my "internet connections", it first showed me that the issue was "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" but then every other time I tried to troubleshoot again, it doesn't show any problems detected

And with the problem of the taskbar, I tried to search solution... Read more

Hi,
Having a WLAN problem with our Dell XPS 15 Z running Windows 7 Home Premium.

When I click on the network connections icon in the task bar, it lists only Dial-up and VPN, but gives no WiFi options. This problem started several months ago but I’ve ignored it until now. The problem is not our router, as I am currently connected to our wifi network using on another laptop. The problem laptop is able to connect to the internet through the router with an ethernet cable. If I go to Network Connections in the control panel, it lists “Wireless Network Connection” (and indicates the hardware is Intel Centrino Advanced –N 6230).

Here are things I’ve tried to do so far (none of which has resolved the problem) :

- Ran MalwareBytes and AVG – no problems found.

- Disable and re-enable the Wireless Network Connection. Result: no change

- Diagnose the Wireless Network Connection. Result: “Problems found, the Windows wireless service is not running on this computer, Not fixed.”

- In Device Manager: checked the Intel adapter - says it is working properly. Tried updating the driver – says it’s the most up to date driver.

- Ran netsh winsock reset, int ipv4 reset, and int ipv6 reset and restarted the computer. Result: no change

- System restore. Looked into it but didn’t do it because all the saved restore points are after the problem started.

- Ran services.msc and tried to start the WLAN AutoConfig. Result: Error 1747 The authentivation service is unknown.

Hi all

I have a typical situation in my Internet and LAN setup. My ISP provides me with a direct LAN cable that I need to connect either into my PC or into the WiFi Router WLAN port. I also have a LAN that I need to connect to, so I have installed a separate LAN card for the internal LAN purposes. My two setups are below with their issues. I hope someone can suggest a middle grounds to have a LAN and a WiFi too.

Scenario 1:
The ISP cable goes into the WLAN port of the Router. Cables from the router goes into my PC network card 1 and to other PCs for LAN purposes. The PC cards are all configured to automatic IP. LAN / Internet / WiFi is now available. This works fine for a few days and then the internet stops working because there is a conflict of IP. The ISP expects IPs like 123.237.234.xxx and the one on the LAN / Router for my PC is 192.168.1.100

Scenario 2:
The ISP cable goes into network card 1 (internet sharing is enabled and automatic IP) with the ISP's expected IP 123.237.234.xxx. Another cable goes from my PC's network card 2 (fixed IP 192.168.137.1) into the regular LAN port of the same Router. Without any issues over the months the Internet works, the LAN works (other PCs have fixed IPs too 192.168.137.2, etc) but no Wifi

Can I have best of both the worlds in such a situation? I can't install a 3rd network card for sure as the slot on the mother board is limited.

Please advise

Thanks in advance
Bhavbhuti

A:Router to work as a WiFi on the LAN rather from a WLAN

Code:

Scenario-1
isp==>(wan)router-->PC card-1, et al (conflict 123.237,234.xxx v 192.168.1.100)

Scenario-2
ISP===->pc card-1
pc card-2==>router
scenario-1 is a configuration or firmware condition
scenario-2 is a real security issue and the primary PC is basically acting as a DMZ server and is at risk.
Here's my setup:
Code:

isp==(wan)router-1--- PCs in the same room
|
+---(lan)router-2(with wifi) - - - wifi connections in the den

configuration to make this work with full file/print sharing:
router-2:

disable DHCP in this router
setup all WiFi settings here
notice: router-2 wan slot is left empty to make this work
Router-1:

set LAN address of router one as you please (eg: 192.168.1.1 )

set an address reservation for router-2's MAC -> a fixed, constant IP address on that same subnet (eg 192.168.1.254)
set the DHCP range small (eg 2-32)
router-1 will control all auto-ip assignments for both routers.

Personally, I add another tweak;

reserve ip addresses for all of my devices into the low-end of the dhcp range (say 2-10) and
let 'guests' take addresses above 10
This gives the opportunity to allow file/print sharing to known systems (2-10) and disallow for the guests.

Setup totally within the routers allow my laptop to travel and not be effected by these choices.

Hi, the problem I have is that every time i shutdown and power back on, my Wifi, WLAN and all the USB drivers are not working.

I found all I have to do is disable and then enable the Wifi / WLAN drivers in device manager, to start them working. And I found that If I uninstall all the USB devices in device manager they then reinstall automatically.

But then when I reboot then they are not working again.

I tried a system restore to when the drivers were working but they don't change.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Intel's website, and tried DriverMax which says the drivers are the latest version.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1555. The Wifi / WLAN drivers are Intel.

I've tried searching on google but I haven't come across anyone with this problem. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

My laptop used to be connected

1. wirelessly to a wireless router and
2. physically to a switch via ethernet cable to access other PCs on site

For years, I was able to

1. enjoy wireless internet access and
2. transfer big files to my other PCs via ethernet, having prioritised the LAN connection

All was well. After two months absence from work, I found the wireless router was broken, so I bought two new ones, same model as before, just in case. Windows 7 Enterprise also updated in the meantime.

Now, when the ethernet cable is plugged in, I have no wireless internet access ("Attempting to Authenticate... forever); when the ethernet cable is not plugged in, I have instant wireless access.

What could I do? I am puzzled... Thanks in advance for any advice!

This is an old iPAQ (Compaq) HNW-100 pcmcia card I'm trying to install under XP w/sp3. You can skip everything else as I am just curious IF/How to install the WLAN transport under Network Properties.

These are the drivers/links I have used. I'm pretty sure all one needs is the newest Apr 25, 2002 driver/utility, the Microsoft website didn't list anything for me once I had these installed:

A:Solved: WLAN Transport - Is It Required for WiFi ?

Well, I tried the update/control package/driver called SP20429. Needless to say it did nothing! There are sites listing this as a compatible XP driver. BS!

What did work was this item from the Microsoft Windows Update site (auto detected)

( www.update.microsoft.com ) :

"GemTek Technology Co., Ltd - Networking - Compaq 11 Mbps Wireless Pc Card
Compaq Corporation Net Driver Version 2.10.24

GemTek Technology Co., Ltd - Networking - Compaq 11 Mbps Wireless Pc Card
Date last published: 5/17/2004
Compaq Corporation Net Driver Version 2.10.24"

As you can see it lists this as a Gemtek Taiwan product for this Compaq/iPAQ HNW-100.

Normaly, you are suppose to install the drivers THEN insert this Pcmcia card. Well, you have to do just the opposite if you want the MS update site to find the driver. Insert the card and have another connection to the internet to access the website.

Or, find this file "SP19978.exe" (i found it searching online/links listed) it should get you online to check for further MS updates. The version info on the sp19978 file should be a newer item as its version is noted as v2.10.29.1029. Whether the release date of DEC 14, 2001 I've referenced is correct is unknown. Note that you could have issues if you have more then one connection and you may need to reboot. The original versions of XP and some products are a pain in the arse to make work.

Hi fellas,

First of all, sorry if some of you find this thread duplicate, but I couldn't find one closely related to my case.

And the case is as follows: On my HP dv6-2010eq laptop with Atheros WiFi chipset the WiFi connection drops at 'random' intervals after the laptop has been started. The only thing that solves this issue (albeit for short) is manually disabling and then re-enabling the WLAN device from Network Adapters.

This manifested few months ago, alas I didn't recall what I might have changed back then.

Sometimes it drops almost immediately after boot, sometimes it takes hours to do so... The lappy has 3 user accounts. Exactly the same behavior on all three of them.

Now, the only thing I could see as a possible reason from the event logs is that right before the drop an event 'WLAN Autoconfig has successfully stopped.' occurs. Without any further explanation.

So far, when I boot in Safe Mode with Networking this issue doesn't present itself for as many hours as the laptop runs.

Tried disabling few programs (firewall, antivir, etc.) but still the same...

Any help is highly appreciated and I am ready to fully cooperate! Thanks!

A:WiFi 'random' dissconnects due to 'WLAN autoconfig'

Hi dstoynev,

By any chance are you using a Wireless Manager for your laptop?

If you have not done this yet, please remove all wireless profiles stored in your computer.
Easy Way to Delete Wireless Network Profile in Windows 7
Re add your SSID (wireless network) that you're trying to connect to with the correct encryption.

Have you updated your Wi-Fi adapter's driver to the latest by downloading it from the manufacturer's site?

If none of the above suggestions worked please install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector from one of your wireless computers. Double click the Xirrus Icon on your Desktop, Tap the Printscreen key on your keyboard, open up Paint then choose Edit from the Menu and select Paste, then SAVE it. Upload and attached the file here.

An update will be appreciated.

I saw this wifi card ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/792608-005-792200-001-GENUINE-HP-WIRELESS-BLUETOOTH-CARD-ENVY-M6-P-M6-P113DX... ) . It has 2 connectors, BUT only one antenna attached to it. Where is the other antenna ? I'm pretty sure they should always include 2 antennas ? I've tried searching for it, but i didn't want to go further and disassemble all other stuff, since i don't know if i am losing warranty by it. but from what i could see, there wasn't second antenna included. I don't know why is my signal so poor, it wasn't like this before.

I have a Dell 1390 Wlan in an Inspiron 1501 running Windows XP. A few weeks ago we upgraded our Internet DSL from 500 kbps to 3mbps. I'm achiving 3m with a hard connection, but still only 500k via WiFi. To see if it was the wlan card, I installed the software and used my husband's Netgear USB wireless adapter on my Inspiron. With it I get a 3m connection. Shouldn't the Dell 1390 be able to handle a 3m connection? Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?

A:Slow WiFi connection w/Dell 1390 WLAN

There should be no reason that your machine can't sustain a 3mbit connection.

Top suspect would be the wireless drivers, update them from the Dell support pages.

Assume I have two computers A and B which are connected (through WLAN/Wifi router) in an inhouse net.

Now I have to transfer huge file archives (> 10 GB) from A to B and other huge file archives from B to A.

I could either do this file transfers
1) in parallel (=start copying files from A to B and from B to A at the same time)
or
2) wait until file copying from A to B is finished and then start B to A.

What is faster?

I could imagine that protocol overhead and interrupts in case 1 could slow down throughput.
On the other hand I could use in case 1 unused upload capacity into the opposite direction during download.

Any recommendations for this scenario?

Peter

A:Paralell WLAN/Wifi file transfer slower than sequential?

Safer is point 2.
It may use some RAM or pagefile to store the buffer.
Read is faster than Write.

Go to a shop deal with cable.
Ask for twisted cable where you can joint both computer, to able to see both.
Ask the staff as they will explain more in detail.

I have a 600 g1 mini running Win10. I put in a combo wifi blue tooth module into the m.2 slot that is under the hard drive. Windows recognizes the module abs shows that both wifi and Bluetooth are working. When I try to connect to any device or a wireless router I get nothing, I'm assuming that there is no signal being broadcast or detected because I have no antenna connection. The parts list indicates that an antenna exists. Where is it? Thanks in advance.

I've just put a MSI MS-6834 802.11g Wireless-G PCI adapter card into my desktop computer and I can't get it to find an ISP. Driver was not included with the card so I downloaded the correct driver and installed it. All is well, it boots up with a strong signal but it wont find an ISP or connect through my laptops WiFi settings. I've tried bridging both, it says they are bridged but I still cant connect through my laptop. My laptop connect to the net via a Belkin in the area but it has a very low signal. The desktop wont pick up belkin or any other but connects to the MSI network.
I do not subscribe to an ISP so have no details or address, I'm in a hotspot zone so I can pick a local unsecure server through my laptop. I've tried everything I can think of and tried all sorts of settings but to no avail.
If anyone can help or pass on some info I would be greatful. cheers.

A:Cant detect Isp but good signal

I was wondering if i WAS able to replace it with stronger WiFi MiniPCI card ?

I dont like the idea using the PCMICA cards.

can i just order one and flip out and put the new one in?

Old Spec:
802.11B?G

New SPEC:
802.11A/B/G
or
802.11A/B/G/N

Was there a possible if i can get it working properly ?

I was trying to upgrade it to vista, but 2100A is not supported.

A:WIFI MINI PCI Upgrade

bushwhacker, it is possible to upgrade with newer wifi mpci cards. I have one D600 as well and I tried many different cards. they all work as long as you find a driver. at the moment I run it with a Dell 1470 Dual Band card which worked ok with vista when I played around a bit with it.
hope this helps?

Hi,

One of my harddisks starts making clicking-noise loudly, meaning that it will break soon.

The problem is, I have 6 harddisks inside my PC. I can't figure out which one is making the noise. I tried to listen closely to each HD, but still can't find it.

So the question is: is there any software that could "predict" future hardisk failure?

Thanks,

A:What's a good software to detect possible HD failure?

There are all kinds of different softwares available for testing hard drives. It depends on the maker of your HDD as to which is best. Have a look at this excellent thread:

http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7602

You'll have to test one HDD at a time.

I'm posting this here to see if anyone knows mainly what graphics card i could get that would make my PC gaming friendly. It doesn't have to be the most amazing stellar quality card out there since iv had (some) people tell me that you cant upgrade these PCs much. But just some good quality advice on the subject and maybe a recommendation on what card brand to get as well as the specs for it. Also a recommendation for a video card would be greatly appreciated as well. Sorry for my ignorance on on the subject, i am new to the PC world. I ended up having to get this computer in a pinch because I am a small time graphics design artist and my laptop died, and I had orders coming in. I'm not looking for a quick fix to the problem so even if anyone has a solution that may take a bit or quite a few steps to get underway, the help is still greatly welcomed! I am hoping if its at all possible to make a good situation out of this and maybe build this PC to fit my needs. Thank you to anyone who can help :)

Hello,
using the Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit v7.0 (SDK), i compiled the WirelessHostedNetwork Example. I use the Native Wifi Functions in wlanapi.dll.
As in the wireless Hosted Network Example described, I open a "WlanOpenHandle", initialize with "WlanHostedNetworkInitSettings", set the SSID name "SetConnectionSettings" and the password with "SetSecondaryKey".

With "WirelessHostednetworkStartUsing" and "WlanHostedNetworkStopUsing" i can Start / Stop the Virtual AcessPoint. In the Network and Sharing Center there is allways a "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" created.
However, we have the scenario that the computer has more then only one physical WLAN network adapter installed. Therefore we want to assign a certain physical wireless network card to the WirelessHostedNetwork.
Using the "WlanEnumInterfaces" function it is possible to enumerate all
physical wireless network cards and its GUID on the computer. However, it has not possible to assign a certain wireless network card to the wlanHandle (I got after "WlanOpenHandle"). It is also required to configure the IP address range of
the WirelessHostedNetwork. By default, this is set always to 192.168.173.XXX.

Thanks a lot.

I want to buy a mini laptop to my kid ( age 9) for watching movies and browisng internet , netflix and some not so intensive games. I see a deal on ebay, but not sure of 1 GB Ram is sufficient for decent speed. Unfortunately, I can't increase the RAM either. Wants a expert opinion.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290634765509+
Operating System: Genuine Windows 7 Starter

Processor: Intel Atom Processor N455

Processor Speed: 1.66GHz

Processor Cache: 512KB L2

BUS Speed: 667Mhz FSB

Memory: 1GB DDR3 System Memory (1 DIMM) MAX Supported = 1GB

Accessible Memory Slots: 1

Appreciate any alternatives.

A:is 1 GB RAM good enough for decent speed for Windows 7 starter mini

I'd say 1GB is okay for Windows 7 Starter, but for any other edition 2GB would be much preferred.

What I'm more worried about is whether the Atom CPU is powerful enough for movie playback, including Netflix. I would definitely expect problems with HD movies (720p or 1080p resolutions, files encoded with H.264 or VC1).

A "full-size" laptop might be a better option than a netbook. A low-to-mid range model should do just fine here.

um, does the ipaq rx5500 not have integrated wireless lan? i wasn't able to find the specs on the rx5500, but the normal 5500 does have integrated wireless as far as i can tell.

as for connecting a wireless dongle to a pda in general, no that will not work, because no wireless usb dongle manufacturer makes drivers for the windows mobile operating system.

your best bet is probably an SD card wireless lan adapter.

Hello all!

My friend got a HP Mini 210 from Verizon, I believe a few years ago. It has a sim slot, but there isn't a sim card in it. I don't know if she took it out, or if she never needed one.

It is an HP Mini 210 running Windows 7 Starter.

Apparently she isn't using Verizon anymore, as she recently bought a T-Mobile hot spot instead. She can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile hot spot wifi, and I brought it home, and can't get it to connect to my home wifi either. Well actually it says "Connected" but "No Internet Access." Internet is fine and working well, so that is not the problem.

The Verizon connection is under Dial up and VPN(I think it is broadband), do I need to remove this connection to get the wifi to connect properly? It is not connected to the Verizon connection though. Is it possible that this laptop is "locked" to Verizon the way cell phones are?

The Troubleshooter says "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource. (primary DNS server)

This isn't my computer, so I am hesitant to do anything that I am not sure about. Any help would be awesome!

Thanks!

A:HP Mini from Verizon won't connect to wifi

They probably set a Proxy in the unit, either in Internet Explorer, or in the Registry. Yes, delete the Verizon connection in Internet Options, in the Connections tab. Check for a proxy in that same tab.

Dear Members,
I have been facing the issue of frequent wifi disconnection for the past 9-10 months.
The problem get sorted out temporarily after running netsh command or after resetting WIFI adapter or rolling back to an older version. However, this never has been a permanent solution. The problem further aggravated after Window 10 Anniversary update in July 2016. I am hardly using my WIFI after this update.
I use a Dell Vostro 3446 laptop with DW -1704 WLAN Card. The part number of WLAN card is 0R4GW0 - 73614
OS: Windows 10 Home, Single Language Edition with 64 bit. I upgraded from Windows 8.1
What I have already tried doing -
Network adapter reset using feature provided in window 10 and also by running netsh command in Command Prompt
Have tried rolling back the driver but it works temporarily
Have tried installing/re-installing drivers listed on Dell support page of my PC, however, every driver shows error after installation.
Tried windows troubleshooter - this used to fix my problem after November update but after March updates it didn't resolve my disconnection issue
Have tried using almost every suggestion provided on various MS and Dell Community Forums.
I also unchecked the setting of 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' in Power Management of the wireless network adapter. And, optimised the wireless settings as suggested by Dell but none worked.
Unfortunately, I have run out of Dell Warranty Support, hence, can't contact them.

To illustrate what you see on the image... the case is as follows:
- I have installed the driver from the vendor provided on my XP box that includes utility software
- You can see the driver location on the top part of the image
- When I plug in the Mini USB WiFi Driver, it doesn't recognize the driver and on the Device Listing -> Other Devices -> 802.11n WLAN Adapter is shown with an exclamation mark

I tried right clicking and updating the driver giving the driver location... it fails

I also tried right clicking the driver and installing it. Yet no luck

I really appreciate some help to resolve this ...

I have an Acer 11.6" Aspire One AO751H netbook. I want to upgrade the wireless-G to N. This model takes the half size mini pci-e cards. I just recently purchased the Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 card. Installed it yesterday, booted the computer, and so far so good. It recognized the card right away and the driver installation was successful. The wifi activity light works, the card is recognized, but it is unable to detect any networks. It just flashes that little balloon at the bottom saying "wireless networks unavailable". Try to refresh the network list, and i still get nothing. I tried turning the card off, then on again, but nothing. I checked on the driver in Device Manager, and it says it is functioning properly.

I have the most up-to-date BIOS and I am running 32-bit XP Pro (downgraded from the factory installed VISTA). I was wondering if maybe there was an issue with the antennas? The 5300 card has 3 antenna inputs, but the laptop only has two antennas. I was told on numerous forums that it would still function fine with only two antennas, however. I obtained the most up-to-date driver for the card right from intel's website and it installed without any issues at all. Does anyone have any input on to why this card seems to have installed fine, but cannot detect wireless networks? Should I try an older driver? I know many people have upgraded the wifi in this Aspire Ones, so I can't see it simply being incompatible.
