As far as I know there is not much support for the configuration you are trying to set up although I would think the best chance is using the Virtual Router software or the directions in the link> http://lifehacker.com/5369381/turn-y...reless-hotspot

It may require using static IP's on the IPv4 properties interface but some experimenting may be required.

I'm not sure all the nonsense data in your system spec's will help anyone address your issue.

Please fill it out properly so as your hardware and internet adapters are identifiable

Hello, i have two computers with wireless cards, i can share files and everything but it takes long to transfer big files

i also have it connected through cable (directly, not through router or hub) (im usin a cross cable)

i want to have both computers share files throught the cable, but each computer to use its wireless card access the internet..

is there a way i can do that?..'

use the cable solely for sharing purposes?... and nothing else?.

and use my wireless cards for internet.. and nothing else?..

A:share+wired+internet+wireless

What happens if you simply connect the cable and configure the wired connection with an IP and subnet mask, but no Default Gateway or DNS addresses? The default routing should use the cable if present, and the wireless for connections other than the wired computer.

Hi All,

My laptop (running Win7 Home Premium & wireless) can see my desktop unit & my NAS (both hard-wired), but when I try to access them, for the desktop I get the error message "Cannot access <name>, check spelling and try again". The spelling and capitalization is correct and the network troubleshooter is at a loss. However, my desktop can see & access the laptop. With the NAS, if I click on the device, it opens the configuration webpage. Another laptop in the house has no problems connecting to the desktop & NAS. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

A:laptop can't access wired devices

you might need to deactivate your firewall for a while and try connecting, if it didn't help, keep it deactivated (disabled) and Check Advanced Settings.(it's prefered to be offline cuz having internet connection while no firewall enabled is not a good idea):

Hi this is my first post.
In my laptop there are two networks
1. Local area connection which i use to connect with my router(wired connection,Ethernet)
2. N79 the ad-hoc network which i created to connect with my mobile device.

Now when i turn on WiFi in my laptop and start listening, my mobile device detect the WiFi network. Then i start to browser of my phone and try to load a web page, and the computer shows the network status as connected. But in the phone still i cant access web pages, the browser of the phone try to load the web page and reply "no gateway reply".

What can i do for this?
Thax in advance.

A:Share internet with mobile device-Nokia n79

When you create the adhoc connection on your latop, you would enable ICS. The connection that get ICS is your LAN cannection, it'll say shared. When you browse on your phone, it will pick up this adhoc network which is wireless adhoc network. You logon like you would a normal wireless network with security key (if it's setup with one). If you can connect than i don't see why you cannot surf the net. Can you confirm that your phone have actually connected to this adhoc network.

Hello,

I just recently bought a TPLINK TD W8950ND wireless N router. I have connected it to the internet and it works fine but the Ethernet speeds are reduced compared to my Netgear DG834GU. The wireless speeds on the wireless N router are indeed faster and the range is better, even though sometimes it loses wireless connection and doesn't connect until it is restarted.

To solve this problem I decided to try make the Netgear my primary router and connect the PC to that via Ethernet for its superior speeds, then connect that routers LAN to the tplinks wan port to share the internet connection wirelessly for its superior wireless capability. The problem is the internet connection is not being shared. I do no know much about networking but I set the routers to different static addresses within the subnet and turned off DCHP on the tplink router.

ANY help or different solutions would be welcome.

P.S. I find it odd that the TP link has slower Ethernet speeds being a newer modem router then the netgear, maybe its a configuration issue? because the line speed reads pretty high but the actual speed is no where near

I find it odd that the TP link has slower Ethernet speedsClick to expand...

My suspicion is a defective router.

When you daisy-chain routers the way you describe the Dhcp server of the second one must be enabled and almost always the routers need to be using different LAN subnets. Since you did not state any desire to protect the wireless devices from the ethernet connected ones I suggest putting everything on one LAN ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

PING each remote computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. Open a command prompt as described above and type.

PING <ip address>
or
PING <computer name>

Where:
<ip address> - is the x.x.x.x IP address
<computer name> - is the computer name

A failure to PING is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Any failure to PING needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Note: You can obtain the IP address and computer name of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG /ALL. This should work for any Windows version. The IPCONFIG /ALL display will provide a wealth of useful information for debugging your network connection.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs:

Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

TCP/IP Netbios helper
Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic.

SOLUTION: In typical techie fashion as soon as i ask for help I solve the problem. I did crtl + r -> ncpa.cpl -> properties -> configure -> advanced -> network access -> Type in the unique address seen for the network adapter when ipconfig is run, type it without dashes. This worked immediately.

My PC is Windows 8.1 and it hasn't had internet issues before. Last night it stopped connecting to the internet. This morning is has been the same. Wireless connections are working fine but my desktop doesn't have a wireless card so i need to fix the wired issue with it.

I've tried the ethernet cable on other devices and they work, so i think it must be PC settings. I PC restored to last night 7pm and it didn't fix it. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew and it didn't work. I've tried uninstalling AVG and turning off firewalls. I still am getting the yellow triangle with "no internet access"

IPv4 Address 192.168.0.7
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

I've tried updating network card drivers and disabling and re-enabling it. Anyone able to help please?

Cheers,
Xander

I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.

I having done a little troubleshooting.

1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.

2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.

3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.

This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.

What can I do to get internet on my laptop aswell? Thanks in advance.

A:Internet on Laptop by a wired computer?

Obviously connecting the laptop to the router by ethernet or getting a wireless router are the best and easiest solutions.

With what you have you also can create an ad-hoc wireless connection between the computers and then enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the ethernet connection.

When the laptop is connected to the wired connection at work and I switch on the mobile hotspot as shown in the website, I am able to connect to the internet on my mobile through my laptop. However, this does not work at my home.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

A:Using 3G mobile phone to connect laptop to internet?

I can't tell you info as to details for your specic computer and phone.. but can tell you in general (as i do it with a dell laptop and a Motorola phone)

First and most important, is you probably need a software application that targets this functionality. i don't believe you're going to get it work "right out of the box"
The phones can be "tethered" to your laptop or not (and sometimes that's the wireless carriers choice and not a matter if the hardware can do it)
Tethered means it requires a cable to connect phone and laptop
Un-tethered is the obvious then. No cable. In my case, i use bluetooth on my phone and computer. Nice advantage is not having to plug/unplug a darn cable as u walk in /. out of the room. I;ll walk out and lose my Bluetooth connection, and then walk back in..here the beeping 10 secs until they reconnect

I'm having problems using wired internet with a brand-new Toshiba Satellite L870-13L. The ethernet cable works fine when used with the other Mac computer in the house, but I've been unable to get any kind of internet connection on the laptop. The laptop recognises the cable when it is plugged in but when I check the status of the connection there doesn't seem to be an IP assigned to the computer.

I will try to give as much detail as possible here. I am not a computer wiz but I'm no dummy either. I have xanadoo internet. It is mostly reliable and I know it is not my internet connection because my desktop works just fine, in fact, I'm using the same ethernet cable for both. I just unplug the desktop ethernet and plug it into the laptop. I also know the laptop detects the cord because it tries to identify a connection when I plug it in. It has never worked for me at home, only if I connect through WiFi. Here's the weird part...I know it CAN work in my apartment because my brother is tech savvy and I asked him to come over and troubleshoot it and when he tried it, it worked like a charm! That part is SOOO frustrating to me I've tried about ten different times and it NEVER works. I know the internet is working at those times because I put it right back in my desktop and it works just fine. I did try to go to internet options and add a connection (even though I don't think it's necessary since it worked for my brother with the same ethernet cord) but it asks for a name and password from my ISP which I don't have and when I try to connect without it, it said something about a problem with the router, but there is no problem with the router. I came right back to this computer and, as you can see, it's working fine. Both are Dells. The laptop is a Dell M5030. Both running on Vista.

PLEASE HELP

Thank you in advance.

Hello all,

I'd really love some assistance with this issue. No matter if I have my HP netbook connected to a wired or wireless connection I'm stuck on the "Acquiring network" prompt. I've followed along in previous threads up until a certain point. In the services page DHCP cannot start due to error 1075.

I tried SFC /SCANNOW and the anti virus software on the netbook picked up a trojan that's in this file "WINDOWS\System32\drivers\netbt.sys". My anti virus has "quarantined" the virus and it cannot be accessed until the virus software is updated and can deal with the trojan. However I cannot update the software until I can connect to the Internet.

I'm not sure if netbt.sys is needed for this, I did not see it in the DHCP dependencies list. Other than that, the SFC /SCANNOW option did not find anything else.

I was thinking I may need to nuke the system and re-install XP, however this is a netbook and I don't have an XP install CD handy. I am however familiar with how to connect the netbook to another computer to use it's CD drive.

Can anyone think of anything else I can do here? I would love to not have to buy an XP install CD!
Thanks in advance

I use cable internet and use a home router for sending a wireless signal to the laptop. I also use the one of the pots from the same router to supply a wired connection to the desktop.

However I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet if I plug in the rJ45 connection into the wired NIC and disable the wireless connection. It does detect the wired connection but when I try renewing the IP, it says "cannot renew IP, media disconnected" as if trying to renew the IP from the wireless connection which has been disabled.

Is there a way to tell the system to use the wired NIC instead of the wireless one?

Thank you

A:Laptop working with wirless internet but not through wired

It should do so automatically. Are you sure the cable you're using is good? Have you tried a different port on the router?
Let's see this for the laptop:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi.

Please help!

Thanks in advance

I am not using the system download, only because the request is concerning another laptop that I have no internet access with. I am a first time user of the site, and at best a novice with computer lingo, but here goes. At home where I presently am, I have a wireless system the I can either use or I can plug a wired line directly into my laptop(s). I currently am using the wireless to communicate with the forum using my TOSHIBA Satellite. The computer in question is less than 2 years old and is a DELL Inspiron N5050. When I plug the wired connection in it does not see it but it displays that the computer is connected to my wireless, but when I try and access the internet through internet explorer I get one of the following messages:
The remote device or resource won't except the connection.
Or
The Proxy Server is not responding.

My HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop recently stopped connecting to the internet. I'm not sure why, but there is an adapter in the device manager under the network adapters called 6TO4 adapter, which has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. It says "This device cannot start. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

The problem is that I get terrible speeds on my PS4's wireless.

I use a Windows 8.1 laptop in the same room, and would like to somehow share its internet connection with the PS4.

I tried to wire the console and the laptop via ethernet, and bridge the ethernet and wireless connections in the 'Network Connections' page of the Control Panel, but I get the message:

"An unexpected error occurred while configuring the network bridge"

Any idea why this is happening, or if there is a better way to go about this? I also have an external USB wireless adapter at hand, just in case I would need another different wireless connection.
Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a new laptop: Samsung 700Z5A-S05 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This is the first time I am using a machine running an operating system other than XP.
We use wired internet in our flat, with no problems on other machines, including my older laptop running XP.

I had issues with the internet straight away after switching the laptop on. It would connect for 30s or so and then dissapear. I disabled Internet Protocol 6, hoping that would help. However, the problem persisted. Problem did not dissapear when running the laptop in Safe mode with networking.

I thought the problem might be caused by some of the software installed by Samsung. So I reinstalled Windows and installed all the drivers from Samsung's support website. However, this hasn't solved the problem. I don't seem to be able to connect to the internet in normal mode at all and can only connect for a couple of minutes in Safe mode.

I would be grateful if someone could please advise on potential reasons behind the issue and any solutions.

Many thanks,

Viktor

Hello,

I am brand new to this site and in DESPERATE NEED OF YOUR HELP!!!

Here's my current issue:

This has been going on for about a month now. My internet speed on my wired ethernet desktop computer have been extremely slow. Webpages would take forever to load. When trying to run a speedtest on speedtest.net, the page would not even load but would run fine on tablets and mobile phone. I even tried disconnecting my desktop and plugging the same ethernet cord into my laptop and it runs perfectly fine (getting around 25 mb down, what I'm suppose to get).

I've ran virus scan and everything checks out clean. I also checked and updated the network adapters. I even saw on another forum something about an AMD Quick Stream but I don't believe I have this on my computer.

I've also delt with ISP, AT&T Uverse, and they already replaced my router twice but still have not solved the problem. I'm getting an upgraded router next week to support 45 mb download and technician will be out here to install new wires and among other things...they claim this should fix the problem as the upgrade will be like a brand new install.

Just an FYI, I'm not that technical so please be very detailed when giving your instructions/suggestions. Please let me know if other information is needed too address the problem. Thanks in advance for your help! This is really my last resort!

Yes.  Sounds like you just need a USB Ethernet adapter.  There are many to choose from and they are sold in most stores that carry network interface cards (e.g.  dell.com, walmart, etc.).

Into this mix I've got a nice laptop that wishes to dance with the net through a usb wireless adaptoer atached to the computer hosting ICS.
I've configured the ad hoc network and can happily grab files off the host computer from the wirelessed laptop.
I can't see the other client computer (doesn't really bother me but it would be nice)
But the main issue is I can't access the net from the laptop through the ICS host computer.

Hi guys i need some help.

I have a laptop with windows7 installed and PC with windows xp installed.

I am using tp-link with a capability of wired&wireless modem router.

I connected my laptop via wireless and connected the internet, it is working properly.

When i connected to the xp PC via Lan connection. I can able to share the files.
But i am unable to share the internet connection.

What i have done so far
1. Checked the sharing option in wireless lan.
2.Checked the option sharing in broadband connection in laptop windows7.
3.Changed the properties of the local area connection in PC to ip address as 192.168.2.2 (where windows7 laptop ip address is 192.168.2.1) and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0
And leave other as blank

still it is not connecting to internet.

A:unable to share internet connection between laptop and PC

Sharing, as in networking, relies on the XP and 7 machines being assigned to the same 'workgroup' within each machines settings. Sharing in this sense is LAN side.

You do not need to bridge/share at adapter level at all. Let the TP Link device use it's DHCP server to enable connection sharing. Sharing in this sense refers to the WAN side internet connection being made available to both machines on the routers LAN side.

Currently I have Broadband Cable Internet. I use a Cable Modem and a Router. The Cable Modem is in the basement. I have a Linksys Router down there. I ran an ethernet cable from the Modem to the WAN of the Linksys. I ran an ethernet cable to the Nic card of the Basment computer from port 1. I am gettomg the internet fine down there. I have run a long eithernet cable from the Linksys port two up to second floor. Here's my problem. I have two computers up there. I bought another router, a US Robotics. I thought I could run the ethernet cable into one of the ports and then hook up the other two computers using two of the open three ports. It is not working. I can only get one computer up on the internet, the second one won't connect. They will both work if I disconnect the basement computer but for some reason I can't seem to get all three up at the same time. It's the same deal with my laptop. I can use the D-LINK and it will find the US Robitics wireless router but only if two of the other computers are not connected to the router. Any Ideas on what I'm doing wrong or what I could do to make this work?

A:How can I share internet on three computers and wireless laptop?

See a previous post

You're not setting up the routers correctly. You may want to read through another post which dealt with a problem similar to yours ( http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?postid=117746#post117746 ).

Your two routers solution was probably overkill but should be workable. One wireless router plus one 5 or 8 port fast Ethernet switch would have been your best setup. These switches are very inexpensive. I would have put the wireless router in the basement and a network switch on the 2nd floor.

For your two router solution check out the previous post.

A:Unable to share the Internet from a laptop through a router

Hello! Sadly, for all intents and purposes, it just doesn't work like that. I'm not saying it's impossible, because I have read how techies have made this happen - but it requires an insane amount of configuration, 3rd party software, a little programming, and a good grasp of linux. The router has to have the internet connection to share out to other computers. Go and get a wifi hotspot instead of a 3G USB device. The wifi hotspot, depending on the provider, should support up to 5+ connections. Another option is the see what ISPs are in your area, get service at your residence, then you could use the router. Hope this helps!

I just got my very first laptop and have been searching for simple instructions on connecting it to my current home Internet connection (Comcast cable). I already have a router, but it is not wireless as it came from Vonage (Linksys RT31P2). The laptop is Toshiba A105-S2071 with Wireless 802.11g/b.

Buying a long Ethernet cable seems cumbersome but simple. Would getting a wireless router automatically provide wireless access to the laptop without changing the PC connection (and with no fees from my ISP)?

Both computers have Windows XP. Once I get connected, what utility should I use to configure this little network and protect it? I'll need to transfer files from the laptop to the PC periodically.
Thanks.

Okay, so I have been using my laptop which is running Windows 10 to share internet to my desktop running Windows 7. Well Windows 10 updated and screwed something up so I rolled the update back and got it back up and running by resetting my desktop dns and ip back to default. It worked for about five hours or so and then stopped out of nowhere. I have tried all the ipconfig / things you can do and none of them have worked. I have tried to bridge them and that doesn't work. I will also sometimes get a ip conflict box on my laptop or on my desktop they go back and forth. I have been stuck on this for hours and networking is not my specialty. If someone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Update: Okay, so I have the wireless internet bridged with the local connection and it created a Ethernet connection box and it's receiving data and sending data just not to the desktop. I have tried to use cmd with the command ipconfig /all and used the ipv4,subnet mask, default gateway, and dns from the Ethernet connection on the desktop with the local connection, properties, ipv4, properties and changing it to the local connection information I was getting a dns error. I stopped getting that error because it stops recognizing the connection. It goes from Network 3 to unidentified and when it does that I get the error that there is an ip conflict. That's all I got right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated as said before.

The default setting for XP Pro is to require a password for network access. You also need those same accounts and passwords on the host computer.

For example if Computer 2 is trying to access Computer 1, Computer 1 needs to have the same user account and password on it that is being used on Computer 2.

My friend had an Epson printer connected to his Windows XP computer and was sharing to two other computers (xp & Vista) through his network. Because this Epson printer was pretty old, he bought a new Canon printer and installed it to his main computer then installed the drivers on the other two computers. However, although the other two computers show the new printer, they are not communicating with it.

Do I have to create a new virtual printer port for USB for this printer? If so, how do I do that?

When I looked at the properties of the Epson printer on the computers before it was un-installed - the Windows XP shows connection through \\Name of Network Local Port and the Vista machine shows connection through Port USB001 virtual Printer Port for USB . I tried to use the same settings for the new Canon printer and made sure the SHARE PRINTER is active - but again, although the printer shows in the printers folder, it gives a communication error.

The main computer prints fine since it is connected through USB directly (as was the Epson).

I tried to be as clear as possible, any help that I can get would really be appreciated.

Thank you..

I can not get file share to work between my wired computers and my wireless computers. File share works perfect between the wired computers, and works awesome between the wireless computers, yet not between the wired and wireless.

I have searched many forums and several people have the same problem, yet no one seems to have an answer. I have spoke with LinkSys several times, yet each time no success in understanding the problem. I can only speak with support techs who have a language barrier and no seeming understanding of networks, just simply reading the que cards.

I have done the following:

1. made sure they are all on the same workgroup.
2. I can ping all the computers from each computer.
3. I have made sure that file share is on for each computer.
4. I have made sure that I am not using peer to peer, Ipconfig /all
5. Since all the computers are using WINXP home, the only option is to use the default "simple file sharing".
6. **note just added** I have no 3rd party firewalls. I use only the windows firewall. I have tried with it disabled and enabled.

I am seeking any help to make this happen.

I have done a ipconfig and the IP address is correct. and I have added the IP address of the laptop to the 3rd WS's firewall, Viper. We just updated to Viper and the WS connect to 3rd WS, which has the POS system and runs and shares receipt and barecode printer.

Laptop was doing this fine up until about 2 weeks ago. The connection was becoming sparitic to not working at all.

Start with the basics and work your way down this list. Let us know where you run into issues.

Hi,

What are the options available to share(extend or duplicate) laptop display to Internet TV? I came across the adapters which connects TV thru either VGA or HDMI and then laptop wirelessly transmits laptop display to that adapter and adapter in-turn transmits to TV. But Is there any software or app available to stream the laptop display to TV which are in the same network ( as both are connected to the same wireless router). Since it is possible to stream the video/music files from laptop media player to TV and TV is capable of receiving and displaying/playing it in the TV, why is it not possible to stream laptop display and why not TV is not capable of receiving the display content and display? please let me know your suggestions or reasons?

Thanks

Last week I tried to install a new router that was given to me that had 802.11n (currently only have b and g) however after alot of fiddling I realised the router was for cabled internet and we have adsl so it wasn't compatible. It popped the old router back with all the same settings and everything was fine for a few days....

Then after no apparent reason my laptop decided to have painfully slow internet (measured at 0.06mbps...). I don't understand because other laptops, phones and an iPad that use the wifi and one wired PC are all working fine.

At first whenever I would turn the laptop on and it would connect to the Wifi it would kill the internet for the other wireless devices. I could only regain the internet on these devices if I turned them off and then reset the router and then turned them back on when the router had reset itself.

After doing a bit of reading on here I tried to see if changing the secruity from WPA2 to WPA-TKIP would help. With WPA now enabled it now no longer means that the Internet gets killed on other devices once the laptop connects. But the internet on them does become slower. The internet on the laptop improves sliiiiightly (with WPA) but is still not at the speed it was at previous to it messing up.

I have also tried, cleaning up the laptop, disk defragmentation, looking for faults with the wifi adapter (it says there are none), restoring the laptop to a time when it worked....

I tried doing:

I've got a 3 mobile broadband dongle I'd like to share over WiFi. I've already ticked the ICS options in the properties of the connection, but I've tried several times to use the internet with both iphone and ipod touch without any joy.

The router I have is a Netgear dg834g with latest firmware. The dongle is connected to the side USB port on my laptop.

Can someone provide any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks!

A:How to share a mobile broadband dongle over WiFi?

Some wireless vendors inhibit ICS when you're using their dongle, perhaps that's the issue?

You should consider a 3G router which allows you to connect that device directly to the router and share the connection.

What's the ISP and the EXACT make/model of the broadband dongle?

I've recently found an app on the android market that creates a website within a wi fi network were it makes a website from all the files and folders on the memory card. Well i don't realy use a usb cable anymore to get files off of my phone. It can create playlists for WMP to play from music or videos.

Well now i want to change it around and let my computer make a wi fi intranet web page so that i can stream videos and music and pritty much download anything from my computer over a wi fi network that is made by my HTC Desire S.

But when i google it only find results on stuff like wi fi internet and not wi fi intranet. If you guys know about of any apps that can do this for a folder on my pc or something alike or some kind of solution please let me know. Thanx

All I am doing is change from Wireless to Wired connection. Everything else is equal. I want to switch to wireless to improve file transfer speeds.

Hi! I looked through the tutorials and didn't see anything quite like this so I'm wondering what needs to be done to get this working.

I had C0X internet hooked to my modem, had the modem hooked to my wired router and the router distributing the internet to my desktop and two xboxs, and my laptop was just picking up free wireless internet (much faster than what i was paying for!).

So I canceled my C0X subscription and I'm wondering this: can I receive wireless internet for free on my laptop, then send this signal via ethernet cable to my router, and have the router distribute the signal to my desktop pc and my xboxs? i'll attach a picture of what i'm talking about if you need it.

the laptop is winxp sp3 and the desktop is win 7 x86 ultimate...

i ran the internet connection sharing wizard on the laptop on the wireless connection and went to use the usb drive to configure the windows 7 but it says 'netsetup.exe is not a valid win32 application'... so i'm not sure where to go from here... in the network map on 7 ultimate it lists the desktop, the switch, the gateway and the xboxes, but it says no internet...if there's already a link i missed or someone who's done this successfully, please let me know.. thank you!

Hi guys hope you can help,

I am having a problem with the devices on my home wireless network. There is a laptop, desktop, PS3 and an Ipod all of which access the internet through the wireless network, a few days ago however I was unable to connect to the internet with the desktop. It had been fine all day but then I left it and came back to it an hour or so later and was unable to get back online after having tried all the usual restarting of devices. I gave up and went to have a quick game on the ps3 to take my mind off all the work i was now unable to do and found that that too had lost its connection to the internet (also was fine earlier) checked my Ipod touch to see if that had access and neither did that, but in the background the girlfriend was obliviously typing away on facebook or something with no problems at all.

The next day all was well again everything had access to the internet so I just forgot about it and carried on with my life (as you do). However the day after that I had exactly the same thing again, I was using the PS3 online no problems. Girlfriend comes in and turns her laptop on so I disappear onto the PC to do some work and no internet connection again, check the PS3 and Ipod, also no connection only my girlfriends laptop is fine.

So....it seems to me, in my limited wisdom in such matters that, if I turn my desktop on first (before girlfriends laptop) and connect to the internet then all is well, but if she gets to the internet first then thats i... Read more

I have two laptops, a tablet and smartphone which are all connected to my home wireless. When I use my laptop (Acer - Windows 7), the internet runs really slow and web pages keep timing out. This happens whether I use Chrome or Firefox. The internet also stops working completely on all other devices. As soon as I shut down the Acer laptop, the internet works on the other devices fine.
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded Bit Torrent software on the Acer laptop and this is when the problem started so I unistalled the software after a couple of days. I had McAfee antivirus software and Malwarebytes anti-malware at the time. I have unistalled McAfee and installed Avast Antivirus today and run full system scans with both Avast and Malwarebytes and they are not detecting anything.
The hard drive on my laptop is fully defragmented and has plenty of memory available. I also had Hola VPN add-on installed but I have unistalled this today too and this hasn't helped the problem. I recently installed Google Drive backup but have limited both the upload and download speed to 100kbps so I don't think this could be causing the problem.
I've tried restarting the laptop, resetting the modem and connecting to the internet via ethernet cable and none of these help either.
Any ideas of what else I could try? My husband and I both work online so need to use both laptops so this is really messing us up! Thanks in advance for any advice.

This may be a conflict between browsers, but first: have you updated Firefox recently? Or do you have it set to update automatically?

This might help, it's from FF Help pages:

NIST in his latest article about securing mobile devices in the enterprise (http://1.usa.gov/MXMkRs) talks about smartphones and tablets. They exclude laptops. They said:
"This publication provides recommendations for securing particular types of mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets. Laptops are specifically excluded from the scope of this publication because the security controls available for laptops today are quite different than those available for smart phones, tablets, and other mobile device types. Mobile devices with minimal computing capability, such as basic cell phones, are also out of scope because of the limited security options available and the limited threats they face."

Anyone here know which are the differences in security controls bettween smartphones/tablets and laptops? NIST said there are some differences.

Hello,
I am creating a web site where the header is moving some images depending the mouse position, you can see at it: http://www.ventadecarne.mx/
The problem is that mobile devices (iPhone, Android, iPhone, etc..) not show this effect.
I know that there is no cursor, but I want to know if I can touch the finger to view this effect.

A:About Contact Finger on Mobile Devices

Hello, and welcome to the boards...

No, I'm afraid this is not going to happen. The touch interface doesn't register constant X / Y coordinates, as is the case with a mouse, it just registers the element clicked on, and relative offsets from that element's origin.
In order for this effect to work on touch devices as it does on mouse based interfaces you would need to measure the difference in horizontal mouse location, basically over riding the drag functionality, and that's not a good idea (if it is even possible!).

Hello All,

I am a programmer and can learn quite fast. I use C# now and have used C, Pascal, Basic, etc before. I'm interested to develop apps for mobile phones. The question is there are quite a number of OS out there (BB, iOS5, Android, etc). Is there a one programming language or application tool that one can use to develop application for each and every mobile phone or is it something that one has to do separately for each mobile phone? I use Windows and would like to maintain using it an environment for my development. Please let me know what I need and how I should go about it?

Thanks

A:Developing apps for mobile devices

I haven't had an opportunity to do such development as yet (since I don't have such a phone) but I've been reading about the issues and so can tell what I've read.

No, you can't program once for all platforms. I haven't seen anything for Blackberry, but the IPhone and Android apps are critically different and written in different languages.

You can program Android from Windows or the free Linux OS. You need a Mac to program IPhone apps.

Android can be programmed in many languages, but Java is by far the best supported. IPhone development requires certain specific languages, ideally "objective C" but C and C++ are also allowed.

The android SDK is free, the Iphone one costs $99.

Beyond that, I guess you'll just have to resort to the programmer's best friend.

Hello *waves* Hoping for a bit of advice - I'll apologise now for being a networking novice here. I have a desktop & a laptop both running Win XP home. The desktop is wired to a Motorola SB4100 cable modem through my Origo BRB-4100 router and is connecting to the internet fine apart from the connection being dropped now and again.

I have the Linksys WAP wired into the router too but I can't do the setup through the web interface as it's software isn't detecting it. Yesterday I was able to look at it though. All I changed here was the default name from "linksys". I haven't changed anything else leaving it all at default for now. The laptop couldn't connect to the net at this point either. I've swapped round the ethernet cables to test them all and they are working. The laptop and the WAP can see eachother but all I have is the signal (which is excellent strength). It is not even connecting to the network though and has never been able to.

My ISP is Blueyonder/Telewest. The purpose of the network is to share the net connection.

Anyway what next ? I am being terribly dumb about this I'm sure. I have saved the "ipconfig /all" results from both machines to a txt doc (attached) if anyone wants to see them....

I've read a million threads on a million forums and am now confused !
Many thanks for anything you can give me.

My home network consists of a Belkin F5D7231-4 wireless router connected to a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem. My desktop system and an HP Media Vault are connected to two of the four LAN ports on the Belkin wireless router via ethernet cables. I have 2 laptops connecting wirelessly. I have two printers connected via USB to the desktop system and shared across the network. All computers are sharing the internet, data storage, and printers without any problems.

My house is prewired for ethernet with wiring that terminates in a central in-wall location near my cable modem, but away from the Belkin wireless router, desktop, and Media Vault. I'd like to expand my network to include the in-wall wiring, and the easiest way (I think) is to add a new wired-only router near the cable modem and in-wall wiring termination point. To maintain wireless capability, I would convert my Belkin wireless router to a WAP (using the excellent tutorial you reference on your forum).

If I convert my Belkin wireless router to a WAP and connect it via a LAN port to the new wired (primary) router, will I still be able to utilize the other LAN ports on the Belkin WAP to connect my desktop and Media Vault? Will there be a performance hit for these devices vs. connecting them directly to the new wired router? Any other issues I can expect with this setup?

Thanks for your help.

A:Solved: Connecting Wired Devices to WAP

Yes, the remaining ports are just other connections on the four port switch that you have connected the primary router to. There will be no performance hit, other than the obvious limitations of maximum bandwidth of the 100mbit switch section. It would be the same issue if you connected them directly to the main router, just the switch would be in a different place.

However, when I plug the notebook into the wired network I can then view the server.

So far I have tried:

unjoining both homegroups and rejoining.
resetting all of my equipment: modem, hub, and wireless router
renaming the SSID of the wireless to be the same name of the network that the server is connected to.

So as of last night, my laptop has been having connection issues using the same wi-fi that I've been using for months.
My internet is part of my rent with the building I live in, but have never had an issue before this.

Most* websites will load instantly, or within a second, unless there are images or videos on the page.
However, all videos, images, and online games are nearly unresponsive. Videos on youtube immediately drop to the lowest quality, and will take a very long time to load fully (up to 30 minutes for a 5 minute video). Images also load incredibly slowly.
I've tried to do a speed test, but the test fails after the ping check due to lack of a connection.

All my other devices are perfectly fine, including phone, tablet, multiple gaming systems. Netflix on my PS3 also has absolutely no issues loading quickly with high quality. My friend's laptop, when using the same connection, seems to have full and proper speeds.

I've looked around on this forum at similar posts, and have already re-installed my wireless drivers. The problem persists.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

It's been years since I have had to visit this amazing forum for help but I am two weeks into this nonsense and have no idea which direction to go in. I woke up two weeks ago to find that I was locked out of my email, fb, router etc etc. I have several devices, this laptop info above, a Dell running win 7, 2 Android Tablets (Samsung Galaxy, and an Acer) I think they have both been rooted. I have uninstalled reformatted and diabled wifi and the next morning all the apps are back on there. two Kindle Fires and a generic with android, three iphones, one 4 operating on 7.1.2, one 4S updated to latest software, and a 5, which I do believe is now jailbroken. PS3 as well.
All of my devices were accessed. My router Netgear WNR1000v3 updated firmware, SSID and pw were both changed, has locked me out probably 20 times. I have been able to access the developer options and through a lot of sleepless nights see that my info is being transferred via various access points Bluetooth, Hangouts, the smart tv, etc etc. My firewall settings are being changed remotely. If you can't synchronize your WM6.1 handset with W7's Windows Mobile Device Center, just download drivers update from M$'s site or update your Windows Mobilde Device Center to 6.1

I just setup a samba server on a linux box I have in another room. My laptop (Win 7 Home premium) is on wireless and can't access the share. In my living room I have a wireless router which sends internet wirelessly to my bedroom where my linux box is. That room has another wireless router which bridges the connection to ethernet. My mac (wired) in my living room can access the shares. And so can my linux partition on my wireless laptop. But Windows 7 just doesn't see it. It can see my wireless roku device connected to my TV though. All the devices mentioned are on the same subnet and I can ping the linux box from windows 7 and tracert shows only the linux box, no other devices so nothing should be interfering in between.

I'm lost on what to do. I've tried everything I can think of and can't find any information online that works or is applicable to this setup. Network discovery is on (remember it does see my roku). tried connecting by IP/hostname but doesn't work. I tried disabling the host firewall but didn't help.

The network devices Windows can see is Network (the network name), Stuff (itself), and Roku Stick.

I've attached a picture of my network layout.

A:Wireless win7 can't access wired linux samba share

ok, so I found a workaround I guess. I would still like to know why it won't show up in the "Network" drop down or any other way to connect. Anyway, so I used

net use x: \\$IP\$share folder /user:$IP\$username

If i can connect this way, why can't I connect any other way?
