Q: how to turn on Wifi in sony Vaio

i have a sony vaio computer.yesterday just opened my laptop cleaned fan.then closed clearly.after i can't connect internet via WiFI but i can connect via cable.

my question is when i try to connect via WIFI it's say it's turn off.. how to turn on now?

A: how to turn on Wifi in sony Vaio

Do you have a physical button or switch on your laptop which you can push? Almost all laptops have this feature so that you can turn the wireless off.

If not then you should be able to force it by going to Start> Control panel

Once opened click on 'Network and Internet'

Afterwards, click on 'Networking and Sharing Center'

From here you want to click on 'Change Adapter Settings'

Now, right click on the wireless adapter listed and click on 'Enable'. This should enable your wi-fi card

Hope This Helps,

My Sony Vaio won't turn on... HELP!!!!!

2 nights ago I was playing a game on my laptop (Sony Vaio v505-dx) when I noticed it was getting really hot. I also had it next to a blanket and Im sure the fan wasnt letting out enough air. Anyway, i decided to let it cool down so I shut off the game and shut off my computer. The next morning it wouldnt turn on. i tried everything sony said I should do and nothing.
My problem is that Im in italy and have no way of getting this somewhere to be fixed. I'll be here for another 2 months and really need my comp.
There's more.
The light for the adapter comes on but not the computer light to say it is charging. Im not sure whether i turned it off that night or put it on stand by, which ive been doing a lot. In the past month, sometimes I put it on stand by and find, the next morning, that i have to press the power button to turn it on. Then when everything turns on it says it has just recovered from a serious problem. I cant send those messages out because it was very hard for me to get it connected to the internet.
I have never had a problem like this before. I have been surfing the web and apparently, sony has problems with over heating and usually computers turn on for a moment and then shut off after 2-5 mins. Mine wont even turn on or show that its recieving power. Before this, i have had to replace my charger because with the last one I would have to fiddle around with the cord until it gave my comp power (pressi... Read more

When you say you used a convertor for the wall socket.. did you check the voltages for italy and your pc were compatible? most have a small voltage selector somewhere.. if so its quite possible you have been slowly cooking your computer with the wrong voltage..

Hope this aint the case.

Good luck.

I have a problem I have been trying to resolve for several months on a Sony VAIO running Windows XP Home edition.

I cannot access any secure web pages in Internet Explorer.

For example, trying to access a Hotmail account returns Server cannot be found.

When downloading any Microsoft updates, a variety of errors are returned when trying to install.

I attempted to uninstall IE, and found more than one copy. I uninstalled them all, however, discovered somewhere a "hidden" copy remained installed that I have not been able to find.

Installed Netscape and none of these problems exist -- however -- Microsoft updaters don't work with Netscape.

I have attempted to repair IE using Microsoft utilities and re-install Explorer several times none of which solved my problem.

I have fully updated Norton anti-virus and scanned frequently any any viruses were quarantined before doing damage -- as far as I know.

Any thoughts before I re-format the drive?

Welcome to TSG

Go to and download 'Hijack This!'.
make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log (in the security section)
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Uh what? You don't turn a BIOS off...the BIOS is what allows the OS to communicate with the hardware.

My old (old like since 2000) Sony Vaio PCG-FX170 or PCG-952A Laptop w/ XP pro was running pretty smoothly since I upgraded RAM to about 512 MB (if I recall correctly) and installed XP pro. But then like after a year or so once in awhile I niticed it accidently turns off. And then like month ago it started just randomly turns off all the time at any point I was working on the computer. Now it's even worse it wont boot at all and if it does like once in ten attempts it just loads up windows and then turns off. Sometimes I could barely have enough time to read nitice that pops up so fast before it goes off saying like - windows wont work bc computer does not have windows certificate or something .
I can get to BIOS and read it all through, it's all fine;
I can boot from my original XP Pro CD but it goes only to the point when all drivers are loaded and setup starts windows and then it turns off again. Mistics..
I really suspect my old power supply might be a cause of it but don't have extra set anyway, so may anyone have any other ideas?

Hey All

Have this annoying problem with my Sony VAIO VGN-TXN25N. The laptop will not power on without having the power cord in and plugged into an outlet, even though the battery is fully charged. Once the machine is powered on, I can remove the cord and run on battery power like normal, but it is obviously annoying to not be able to turn the machine on without plugging it into the wall. For whatever reason the little white power button is unresponsive until it is plugged into a wall outlet???

I tried to contact Sony and they kept telling me to install some graphic/video driver, which I did to no avail. If anyone has any insight I'd love your HELP!

Thank you

Did you look through the Vaio troubleshooting guide?

Sony : Support for VPCEB1Z0E/B | VPCEB1Z0E/B technical support

My guide says:
-Make sure the computer is securely plugged into a power source.
-Make sure the power source is working.
-Make sure battery pack is installed properly and charged. Or remove battery pack and try using AC adapter only.
-Disconnect all USB devices and try to restart computer.
-Remove all memory modules except for one and try to restart. If more than one module, try each module separately.
-If computer is plugged into a power strip or UPS make sure power strip or UPS is working by plugging computer directly into mains outlet.
-Unplug power cord/AC adapter and remove battery pack. Wait ten minutes then reinstall battery pack and plug power cord/AC adapter back in. Try to restart.
-High humidity can cause condensation. Make sure all contacts are moisture free.

These are just some of the quick troubleshooting steps.

1. Just bought a Sony VAIO TT series and was trying to get logged on to the MacDonalds (Cloud?) wifi. It took ages to go through the leaflet they provide and then I got the message network not available. I had to do all the steps manually there was no "wizard" or automatic connection. First time I've ever tried this.

When entering a wifi hotspot should the wireless network appear in Manage Wireless Networks? This certainly didn't happen in MacDonalds. My wireless switch on the laptop is turned to "on" but how do I know if it's working. It seems ridiculously difficult to find a wifi connection. Am I doing something wrong? Does each hotspot need this complicated manual configuration?

The laptop works fine at home with a router and i also have a broadband "3" mobile dongle which connects fine.

2. Also getting message "Windows Media Player has stopped working". Why? How can I fix this.

The laptop is brand new by the way.

Any help much appreciated. Advice in idiot format please for a non IT/PC beginner, thanks.

Hi...and help!

well i've had this problem for quite a time now, basically whenever i turn on my laptop, the logo comes on and then it sometimes freezes. its COMPLETELY random. sometimes it can turn on like 10 times in a row and no freeze!, but sometimes it will just hang there on that vaio screen maybe 4 times in a row, nothing responds, i just have to hold the power button in, and its annoying! i tried to resolve this issue by using the vaio recovery utility which basically reformats and the HDD partition using another backup partition, and then reinstall windows xp again. I did this and it worked i allowed all the vaio updates again, it hung once, which means the problem has not gone, its lessened but not completely gone! i have also changed the boot-up sequence on the BIOS and still nothing, virus scans everything ive done, and still nothing! its much less but still is there!

oh i need to mention i have a vista home premium disc, but ive lost my xp one. though i REALLY dont want vista!

any suggestions would be great thanks!!

Hi everyone, I need your help urgently!

I have sony Vaio laptop which has been working well. Recently its charger had a minor explosion and broke (it happened when I plug it in to the outlet as usual). So I replaced it with a new one. However, the light on the new charger was blinking whenever I plug it into the laptop and turned solid again when I unplug it.

Could you please help me fix this? All my assignments and works are in this laptop and I need it very soon.

Thank you

Ps. I have tried removing the battery and it still doesn't work. Also I won't be able to try another charger.

Okay, so I have here before me a Sony Vaio NR series laptop.
It has a large problem: The WiFi Doesn't work properly.

For some odd reason, when you start it up in safe mode, the WiFi works perfectly.
When you start it up normally, you see the WiFi light comes on and it connects to one of the preferred networks like it's supposed to, until about a minute later, it turns off the WiFi light and disconnects from the network, and will not find any networks. When you click "Diagnose why windows cannot find any wireless networks" it says "The Wireless Capability is turned off" or something like that and says I should turn on the wireless switch. However, the wireless switch, is already on.
I can flip it as much as I want, it does nothing. The light will not turn on again until I restart it, only to have it do the same thing over again.

I know it's not a hardware problem, cause it works in safe mode just fine. So why doesn't it work in windows when it's started normally?
Help would be much appreciated, I'm pretty close to just reloading the operating system.

EDIT: I have uninstalled and reloaded the updated driver software for the wireless LAN card... no luck.

You also need to indicate more about your system specs to get any idea of the problem, like: What operating system and its release level? What is the make/model of the wifi card?

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager, then click the + in:

Network Adapters

Other Devices

Advise what's listed in each heading and if any entries have a question mark( ? ) or exclamation mark( ! ) or X next to them.

Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

Scroll down to the bottom of the services list and confirm that

Wireless Zero Configuration

has its startup type on "Automatic" and shows its status as "Started".

Does your laptop have built-in wireless, or are you using an external wireless USB device or card device?

Recheck the model number. I believe it should start with VGN.

I have been having a problem for a few weeks now and nothing I've done or come across seems to solve the issue!
Basically when I try and connect to my wifi (netgear router) I get a very strong signal but local only access & an unidentified network. I have my desktop & 2 more laptops running off this router so it can't be that.

After failing to connect to wifi I tried to use an ethernet connection to try and update my drivers in hope that would fix the wifi problem. After plugging the ethernet in I was in exactly the same position, I kept getting 'Identifying' appear in network connections which then turned to unidentified and wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet either!

The laptop is about 3-4 years old I think so I did update the drivers but that didn't do anything either, any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention my os is vista

A friend's netbook with Win7 Starter got a virus hard to remove, so it's time to format and reinstall everything. After reinstalling Win7 Starter 32-bit and properly validating it with the serial on the tag under the notebook (which is strangely different from the serial I stripped from the registry), updated everything, installed and validated Office with original S/N, installed a few other essentials (MSE, Chrome, Adobe Reader, drivers from Sony website (but NOT the bloatware programs), 7-zip, etc) and installed linux in dual boot. Connected normally to my home router and I didn't see any problems with connection dropping, but wouldn't connect to my friend's wifi using windows - which is strange, because it always used to connect to it with no problems and no other smartphone/pc has problems connecting to it. It would tell me "wrong password" as soon as I hit enter, seemingly without checking wifi's password. I had no problems connecting when booted to linux, though.
Then I brought it back home, reinstalled everything from the start, re-updated everything, etc. While in windows, the netbook disconnected once from my home's wifi and would show a "red X" over the network icon, which I assumed to be because I was updating drivers, installing stuff, etc, so I just rebooted and everything worked normally. But this time win7 still wouldn't connect to her network, despite linux would connect normally. After fiddling with her router a little, I did manage to con... Read more

The message "operating system not found" appears when it boots up. I put in the Sony Recovery disk, bit it could not read it. As Sony didn't provide a spare copy of XP, how do I get back up and running? Do I have to change the motherboard battery? any advice much appreciated.

I Hope you Christmas is Merry and peaceful.

A:Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RX305 Windows XP now missing, no disks supplied by Sony

Call Sony Tech Support if you are the registered owner or buyer. They will provide a disk set for a small fee ($27) for six years after purchase, or until they run out.
Your only other choice is to buy the disk online at some place like ebay, or buy Windows Home (still available for $82) or Windows XP Professional for $135.
The motherboard battery should not be bad, but if it is, you can get a replacement (CR2032) at Wal-Mart ofr $3.67 or on eBay for $2.58.
The recovery disk may be good, and it is your optical drive that has gone bad.

Hi Guys
After Having Liquid Spilled on my Screen, it was not working for few hours,
then i tool to local repair and they did it worked, so everything is working fine. However i doubt that, when i press Power Button, it tooks about 7-8 seconds to start loading SONY LOGO and then WINDOWS 7 comes up, as i remember, Before it got spilled, and prev time, on pressing power button, it was loading LOGO immediately max 1-1.5 sec, i'm afraid.

This is happening at shutdown as well, after pressing shutdown, firstly a Black screen appear for a few seconds and then my vaio is shutting down., I guess there is something changed in Bios, maybe by Local repairers.

Please be advised, Thanks, Levan.

A:SONY VAIO Slows At Start Up, Before SONY Logo Loads.

If I'm understanding correctly, your Vaio is taking about 7-8 seconds longer to start. At shutdown you're getting a black screen and it's taking a few seconds longer than what you're used to. But is everything else in between (opening programs, searching on the internet, etc) working OK?

If it is, my first reaction is to say don't worry about it. I have a VPCEB47GM and it takes about 10 seconds for the Sony logo to appear and about 50 seconds total to be able to use Windows 7. On shutdown I usually get a black screen for about 5 seconds but the rest of the shutdown process takes about 30 seconds to finish.

Do you know what your BIOS settings were before you took the machine into the repair shop? If you do, you could compare them to how the BIOS is set now. But if you don't know how the BIOS was originally configured, I wouldn't be changing anything.

This is the first time contacting Sony support. After waiting for over 1/2 hour, finally a person comes online. I spend another 20 minutes giving him name, address, etc and then I find out that it is "paid support".

After an online chat and trying to contact Sony support, maybe the only solution is to trash the Sony Notebook and buy a Dell. Does Dell still provide support?
The problem is "no sound from the computer". I have spent 4 hrs this morning downloading and checking for updates to all the sound drivers.

Any suggestions?

A:No sound Sony Vaio and No Sony Support

I hear the same complaints from Dell users on the Dell forum and from users of other brands. They are all equally lousy on support or want you to pay for it. e.g. "software" support on a Dell is separate from any warrnty or maintenance contract which only covers hardware. You get "free" software support for the first 30 days only.

Back to the sound problem. We need more info to try and assist. e.g. what sound do you have (if you know), etc. You didn't fill out all the needed System Specs. What have you tried? e.g. have you checked the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel to see if your "speakers" (sound card) is set as the default playback device?

Hi there,

I am using a Sony PD 170 DV camcorder hooked up via 4 pin firewire to a Sony Vaio laptop. I am also using Avid Composer video editing software. The problem is that I can see the video from Avid in the viewfinder but it freezes in the viewfinder even though it is playing on the computer. This is preventing me from outputting a project. Do I need a driver for this camera?

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

Does anyone have any experience of the above computer?
I have one that won't boot into windows, I have gone through the recovery process and gets part way into booting into windows and then reboots itself. I have tried reloading Windows Xp on its own and again it reboots at the same spot.
I have fitted some new memory but this made no difference, this model seems to be a bit of a hybrid as it uses some laptop parts and some desktop parts. I suspect repairing it will be expensive, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Everyone....Happy New Year!

My Vaio started going to safe mode after "recovering from a serious" problem. I got the dreaded blue screen telling me the video display hardware/software was acting up.

I was not able to boot up without Cntrl-Alt-Delete!

Now, she will not boot up one last time so I can dump my HD of some much needed data.

Is there any way to tell if I can replace the ATI 9200 card this one terminal?

I need one more boot. For now, it will not even light up the screen.

Thanks! Brent Coleman

I just got a sony vaio from a friend of a friend. I glady accpeted it because my motherboard in my regular laptop has a short in it somewhere so until I raise the funds to replace it I wanted to use this one. Well... the laptop is perfect for my needs but she got it from an international student who is no longer in the country. The laptop displays both Chinese and English languages. Thankfully the system files are in English.
Anywho, the reason for this is because I want to factory reset the system. I am a admin on the system but I cannot access the partition for the reset. I tried using the edit boot options (f10) but all I get a input prompt I do not know what to do from there.
[ [/no execute=optin
partition: 3
hard disk: 75024967
I have also tried the recovery software but can only revert to a previous point.
Please advise me.
Sys Specs:
Sony Vaio VPCCW21fx
OS: Win 7 (not sure if this is ultimate or not)
There are three partitions one has no assigned letter. I think this is where that factory reset is located. I have included a screen grab of that.

Hello, i have a new Sony Vaio (not sure model) running vista basic (i think) just bought last christmas.

Two days ago i was playing a game (as usual) then it just out of the blue started to shut down and install the regular updates displaying 1 of 3 0% regretably i held down the power to shut it down immediately. I restarted it and it started to boot normally until the after the windows sign appears it goes to installing updates 3 of 3 0% stays for about 1-3 mins then says shuting down then does so and restarts and completes the process over.

Im not sure why i had the random crash (maybe the game?) in the first place but im thinking the boot files were messed up when i held the power key (because it says please do not shutdown when its installing) but ive tried just about everything i know to do which is just trying everything in the boot menu the ONLY way i can actually boot up (which is in safe mode) is like "boot recovery seystem" or something like that in the advanced boot mode options which is pretty much the only thing that works AT ALL. the only other thing that seems to work is going into that blue screen where i can set a system password or change the boot order (where i think is where you start the recovery discs (which i do not have)). But getting into the recovery safe mode thing i tried to system restore to an earlier date. the recovery process takes place normally until i get to finalizing recovery process.. then it just sticks. To start i apologize if this in in the wrong section.

Right i have just signed up after hours looking on the internet to still be out of luck on fixing my laptop.

I got a 2nd hand Sony VAIO (PCG-71311M) from a friend, so i was in the stage of cleaning all the data off from the laptop, selected "restore factory settings", but now everytime i turn the laptop on i get a black screen with "Operating System Not Found_".

My friend did not have any form of recovery disk or Windows 7 disk, only otherthing apart from the laptop itself is the charger.

What can i do to get the laptop back up and running? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Edit: To add i have clicked the F10 key until i get "Edit Boot Options" clicked Enter and then get the VAIO Care Rescue screen. I have try to start recovery but it gets to 6% and then stops.

Recovery typically doesn't work at all without the recovery discs.

At this point, I'd suggest purchasing the retail version of the OS of your choice, and installing fresh.

My pc is a black page, with operating sistem not found. It's Vista.
I can do nothing to open it
What can I do.
I have de cd for the recovery

thank you

A:my pc vaio sony

Operating System not found means hard drive error. Some spots on the HD cannot be read during bootup.

Here's how to boot up your system using Linux to rescue data:

Go here to download Ubuntu 10.04 ( There is a newer version, but I am going by my existing setup, so follow along and choose 10.04 ) Save the iso file.

Then download ImgBurn from here:

Install ImgBurn and run it.

Choose "Write Image to Disc"

At the top of the Imgburn window, where it says "Source" click on the folder with maginfying glass icon; Then navigate to where you saved the ISO file.

Then click on the bottom area of the window depicting hd write to CD.

That should create the CD.

Now you want to boot with the CD on your PC. Check your BIOS so that it chooses to boot using the CD first. You are looking for the Boot menu, boot priority, or something along that line.

Once you boot into Ubuntu, pull down the Places pull down menu. Choose the ## GB Filesystem. That would be your hard drive. You will be able to see all folders in your drive. Now copy off the files you want to a USB memory stick.

First check to be sure the cable inside the computer that goes to the CD ROM is seated in the CD ROM properly. If it is loose this will happen. If it is a new system with a seal you may have to take it back to let them check. Also the BIOS may not be set up to recognize the CD ROM.

I took screenshots of the amount of RAM it said I was using and then the list of the all the processes it said I had running. I added up all of the list and it was 2,137,406 kb when on the performance window it said I was using 5.46 gb so I don't know where that additional 3.36 gb is coming from.

i downloaded a file called pre- installed drivers from the sony vaio website for this model(most unhelpful support site ive come across in my 2 and a half years as a techie) but the multimedia video and audio drivers and an unknown device are still not installed, ive tried a number of different drivers witch i thought will have solved the audio but no luck,

has anyone got one of these who could email me the drivers? it would be much appreciated,

A:Sony Vaio pcv-w2

of the drivers are not available from the Sony site a bit of detective work is needed.

Down load Belarc advisor and run it on the Sony to obtain the detailed list of contro;;ers and bus adaptors you have. If you can't download, down laod ir elsewhere and copy it over.

Once you have the definition and manufacturer of the adaptors check which ones are not installed.

Go to that manufacturer's web site and locate your chipset and download their generic drivers.
Sounds too easy - it has taken a week to get the Sony drivers I need having gone from xpmce to xp pro.

If you post the adaptors I might be able to help with locating generic drivers.

Generally I would say that it looks like a malware, but lets check a few things first before going down that road:

What exactly is that "center stage" fault, could you please provide us with the full error message and/or a screenshot of the event.

If you run the PC in Safemode (Press F8 during startup), choose "safemode with networking", does the problem persist there aswell?

What page are you being redirected to?

My Sony Vaio suddenly shut down and when I turn it on, there's only a black screen with a blinking white underscore on the top left, the underscore after 10 seconds moves down a line, then after 10 seconds again moves down a line, then it just stays on the 3rd line. I've tried using my recovery disk and the Bootrec.exe > bcdedit /export C:\bcd_backup > C: > cd boot > attrib bcd -s -h -r > ren C:\boot\bcd bcd.old > bootrec /rebuildbcd > y. But all that doesn't work, I'm accessing internet through Splashtop right now, please help.

A:Sony Vaio not booting

which model vaio? ...sounds very similar to a problem i was having awhile back. turned out that there was a problem with the battery. does it do the same thing if you leave the battery out and plug the computer into the wall? this will rule out the battery's involvement in the problem...

Hi. I have a 3 year-old Sony VAIO with XP Home. System generally runs well; no problems. But a few weeks ago, when I restarted the machine (I generally never shut it off), it only booted into XP after I started up in Safe Mode a few times--not that I'm making a causal connection; just a comment. (I'm writing this on an W2K machine which is part of my little network). Now, after about an hour, I'm still looking at the Windows XP start up screen (with the little blue "progress" bar). Perhaps it's doing something intensive, but the HD is quiet; I haven't a clue. In safe mode (with networking) I checked the hardware and everything seems OK.

I can get into the system via any of the Safe Modes. Is there anything I can look at there which would give me a hint as to the problem? Is there anything I can set in safe mode? I've looked at the event log and nothing of interest appears there (at least to my novice eyes) except the note that "A port was listed as an exception when the Windows Firewall was started."

I tried downloading a (refreshed) NVIDIA driver; I tried restoring to a previous point, all to no avail.

Any thoughts besides buy a new machine?

LATE BREAKING UPDATE: My system is back up and running after using System Restore.

I was given a Sony Vaio Laptop model PCG-K23. I don't have the Sony recovery discs but I do have a copy of XP PRO SP2 that I would like to install. The laptop boots up to a black with the message "Operating Sytem Not Found". When I try to install XP I get an errror message that says Windows does not detect a hard drive. All input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, OP

A:Cantankerous Sony Vaio PCG-K23

If you are trying to boot from the installation CD you may need to enter the BIOS and change the CD-ROM to the first device in the boot order.

When you look to see if this has been done, check to see if the hdd is being recognized.

Im not really even sure if im in the right forum for this type question. but this afternoon i was using my Sony Vaio laptop for about 30 mins or and i left it on for about 10 or 15 more mins and when i came back it was off. First thing i thought was that the battery had died, but that idea was cancelled when i saw that the wall adaptor was plugged in also. The light on the wall adaptor comes on and is green. But the computer will not show any signs of life what so ever other than the green light on the wall adaptor. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG?!?!?!

my first reaction to this is that it hibernated. Can you turn your computer on? You may want to post more specifics about your computer and the problem, such as OS, what you were doing before you left, what applications were open when you left, etc, etc.

Hi! Well I have this laptop that I absolutely loved but it died!!! My son has a macbook and long story I had some leftover memory (from Mac upgrade) and I installed it in my Sony. I had read online that it wouldn't hurt it as the Mac was only faster. Well a few weeks later I was using my Sony and it just went black. It was totally dead. I think it may be the motherboard. And maybe it just heated up because of the memory. I've taken the memory out and replaced it with the original and still no luck. I've taken it apart looking for loose connections...Nothing! Any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance!

I had some problem with some viruses which I managed to remove with Malaware. i then downloaded the latest windows updates, when it asked to restart the computer, it has never managed to restart successfully again.

I have tried all the options that appear on the screen; i.e safe mode, last known good config and normal. But the computer just hangs with the windows logo screen.

I have photos on their that I need to back up, and although I have read how to potentially restore the system, I can't work out how to save my data.

What is the problem and how do I solve it ?

A:Help I cant get me Sony VAIO to start

There should be a restore point made before the update install. Try a restore from safe mode.
Go to the options menu where you selected last known good configuration, but instead select:
Safe Mode with Command Prompt then hit Enter.
At the Command Prompt, type:
C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe then hit Enter.
Follow the instructions to perform the System Restore.

Hello, I have this laptop and was wondering where the hard drive is at on it and how to get to it?

I'm not too computer savvy but know quite a bit about desktops, but laptops is not my specialty.

I unscrewed all the screws I could see on the bottom, side and back but nothing would pop off.

It is a kind of old laptop.

The reason why I am asking is because the hard drive is dieing from what it saying after booting it up. So am wanting to get that replaced.

A:Sony Vaio PCG-952A

On old laptops, they are usually located on the side of the computer, near the usb ports. It looks like an expansion slot.

So, I'm selling my Sony Vaio CS118. I thought it would be a great idea to "Wipe and Erase" the C drive via Sony Recovery.... and then restore it using the Recovery DVDs I made. This may or may not have been an idiotic idea.

Anyways, when I restart the comp, of course it says "Operating System Not Found." I insert Recovery Disc 1, and after a few minutes the Sony Recovery Software loads up. There are two options: Restore C Drive, and Completely Restore C Drive. I have tried both, and when I click for it to Start, "Error 403" pops up.

What do I need to do to recover?

A:Sony Vaio restoration

Restore Disks that came with Computer I would expect.. if you have one (or more.) An Error 403 is an HTML Issue with some web-pages..... so... try ordering disks from Sony. An also... try selling it without an Operating System. So people can choose, you know. Vista isn't the best operating system ever.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before on any laptop?

Ok here goes My Wife was using her laptop on the coffee table, she left for a while and the dog got caught up in the cords. Of course he knocked it off. Here is my point, after that happened the screen on the laptop worked but moved into the right corner of the screen. You could not see the start menu at all. Other than that the computer itself worked fine. When I put it in stretch mode, the screen would flicker in some spots. So I used an external monitor on it for a while

Then about 2 days ago something wonderful happened my wife was using the laptop without the extra monitor she went to do something and clicked on the start menu. She had to take an extra look at the screen, which was fine. How did it fix itself is what I want to know?

Dear friends,
The Laptop i bought came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit(as can be seen in my system specs below) and a few other goodies. The Original installation CD was not included.

I have cultivated the habit of taking regular BACKUPS, WHICH I CONSIDER AS LIFE SAVERS(very sorry for the bold type,it was purely for real emphasis)and i use and recommend the free version of Macrium Reflect(it has support for 64-bit).This will come in very handy,if i have to restore the system to a previous state.

I request your valuable opinions and firm answers in case something really drastic happens and i have to re-install the OS.
Thank you!

A:No Installation CD came with Sony vaio!

Sony should have partitioned your hard drive for recovery. If you look in your start menu, there should be an option to create a recovery CD.

From what i know most OEMs do not ship with recovery CD anymore instead they create a partition on the harddrive for Users to create it themselves.

Here is the link to the drivers there appears to be no win7 drivers ,only the update patch ,Use the vista drivers in compatibility mode ,You appear to have a 32bit system

We apologise for the inconveinience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardrive or software might of caused this:

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files or folders choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous start up attempt was interrupted to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed or if you arnt sure what caused the problems choose start windows normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with command prompt.

Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked) normally.

Start Windows normally

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight of your choice.

Seconds till Windows starts (counts down from 30)
