Router does not have a valid IP configuration

Q: Router does not have a valid IP configuration

My computer wouldn't wake from sleep mode a few days ago so I hard rebooted it. When it booted I no longer had internet access.

My local area connection was listed as an unidentified network with no network access. I used the troubleshoot tool on the connection and it returned "the router does not have a valid IP configuration". I could not change the network from public to home/private.

I am able to connect to the internet using the same router and cable on this laptop. The wireless is also working fine.

I have tried:
disabling and enabling the network adaptor, DHCP and the local connection
updating the network card drivers
disabling ipv6 in local connection
Resetting the router to factory settings
I disabling bonjour (I do not have and have never installed mcafee)
clearing the TCP/IP stack with netsh int ip reset
using ipconfig /release /flushdns /renew
system restoring to before the issue occurred
doing a clean install of windows (it saved my old files under windows.old - I assume this is still a clean install)

I am running windows 7 home premium 64, my network card is an Intel 82567LF-2 Gigabit, the router is a Thomson TG782T and I am using Bigpond ADSL2+.

It's been a couple of days and I'm well out of my depth. I didn't expect the issue to continue after a clean install. Any help would be really appreciated. Attached is the ipconfig I get. Attachment 288972

A: Router does not have a valid IP configuration

If you could attach your ipconfig please because I can't see it

This can help us determine possible causes

Hi, I'm having a problem setting up my router. Whenever I connect my router to my modem, I get the error "Local Area Connection 2 doesn't have a valid IP Configuration."

How can I fix this?

This error goes away when I connect just my modem to my computer.

I know the router isn't broken, and I'm sure I have all the cables plugged in correctly.

Router Model: Netgear WNR2000

OS: Windows 7

Thanks for any help!

I've been trying to fix this for a week now!

A:Router Help! Local Area Connection Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration.

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Hey everyone,

I know this seems like a pretty common problem just by looking on Google or on here. I have tried quite a few things and a cannot seem to get internet. Here is my problem.

Work has 3 Computers. 2 Desktop 1 Laptop (all running windows 7). Moved premises and got the internet connected. Once internet was connected, simply plugged all 3 computers into the router. 2 of the three computers worked and received internet, the third one hasn't. I keep getting the "no valid IP Configuration" on the computer.

Have tried different routers, new cable still nothing. Have looked at the router and network driver to ensure that they are up to date. Yes, still nothing. Thought that maybe it may have been a network card, so plugged both computers into the lan cable, still same error. Looked at router settings, cant seem to find anything out of the ordinary.
Just seems strange that 2/3 computers worked without anything, now this one is not playing the game. Have not tried reinstalling Windows, can do so if you think this will solve the problem. If not then a solution would be great.

Cheers

Deazy

Hi,

I just bought a Samsung Ativ today. I got home, turned it on and tried to connect to my wireless, however I get the error message identified in the title, along with the network settings saying that it is an 'unidentified network'. I tried doing the netsh commands in the cmd prompt, I uninstalled Norton AV, nothing seems to work. An ipconfig/all in cmd showed that DHCP is enabled and I've got a subnet mask but no default gateway. I'd copy it here but I can't heh.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

A:No valid IP configuration

169.254.x.x is an IPv4 Auto configuration address assigned when a machine cannot find or receives and invalid address from the DHCP server.

Does this happen when you plug your machine in via ethernet?

Also does this affect other machines on the network, if so what OS do they run? It could be a driver issue or a software issue regarding your router

Are there any other Windows 8 computers on the network?

I am not able to connect to the internet using my Windows 7 computer.

It is connected to internet via LAN. So, the router is not directly connected to this PC. The owner of my router is my neighbor.

Internet works for him very well using the same connection. Only my LAN connectivity does not work.

Here is the IPCONFIG info. Any one help me, what can i do to resolve this issue for my client PC.

Hi guys,

I am running Windows 10 demo version.

I have problems connecting to the net. I am shown the error along the lines of "Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration".

From command prompt I run "ipconfig/all" and here is the console's output:

When I run "ipconfig/renew" it fell through:

Any ideas?

A:Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration

There is an issue with your network adapter (probably the device driver or messed up network settings). If Windows cannot get an IP address from the network, this is the IP it assigns itself. Check Device Manager, or re-install your network settings.

This is my first time posting. I am on Windows 10 64 bit professional. I was trying to add RAM to my pc a couple of days ago when I suddenly lost my connection to the internet. My computer is connected to the router via Ethernet and has worked fine for years. My laptop still connects to the internet via the router. The troubleshooter says I do not have a valid IP address. I have uninstalled the network adapter driver and then searched for hardware changes, which reinstalled it, and that did not work. I've tried the cmd run ipconfig /all and that just flashed something on screen that disappeared instantly. Not sure what else you might need to know about my situation, but please ask anything you need to in order to help me find a solution. Oh, and when this first happened I called my ISP to see if they could help me, and all the young guy could think of is that my NIC card might need a driver update and he told me to call Microsoft. Any thoughts or suggestions are all appreciated! Thank you.

What you may want to do is first, download the most recent Ethernet driver that did work from your OEM, Realtek, or where ever you obtained it from. It could be that the OEM has updated Windows 10 drivers for your make/model of computer. If so, get the Ethernet driver from there for best compatibility.

Then using the Device Manager, uninstall that device, being sure to check the box that says 'Delete the software for this device' & reboot. Now, install the package that you downloaded, if needed, can install in 8.1 compatibility mode (this option is under Properties).

My landlord recently updated his apple router and i am now unable to connect to the internet. The flow of internets is from the ATT high speed connection that goes from the modem, then to an apple router, and then plugs into his ethernet port which sends it to the ethernet port at my apartment.

When I use the windows 7 networking utility it tells me that <device name> does not have a valid ip configuration.

I've tried the following script:
@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0
and I've made sure it automatically assigns IP.

Welcome to the forum gans07,

So this is a factory installation of Windows 8, complete with all the trial anti virus software's and endless bloatware which is guaranteed to cause problems.

First you should uninstall completely the trial version of which ever A/V software was preinstalled on this machine using the special uninstall tool. These trial A/V's tend to cause countless problems unless they are removed.

After that, if you can post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from this machine it would be most helpful.

The wireless internet on my HP laptop randomly stopped working. It says that I'm connected but pages won't load. When I diagnosed correction problems, it said "The network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" does not have a valid IP configuration." None of the solutions Windows Diagnostics provided fixed the problem. My mom's laptop is connected to the same wireless router (we have ATT U-verse) and is working fine.

my dad recently bought me an HP laptop for christmas. brand new, had never been used. it worked wonderfully up until we tried to connect it to the internet. it told me to reset my router, which i did and it took me through a bunch of troubleshooting guides. it kept telling me at the end of all of the troubleshooting that the connection was "unauthorized" and that i didn't have a valid ip configuration. however my father has a toshiba laptop and his connects to the internet fine. he uses linksys.

so he called HP and spent hours on the phone with them and they came to the conclusion that there must have been something internally wrong with the computer and that it was defected. so today we returned it, got our money back, and bought an ACER laptop. the lady at the customer service counter told us she had problems with her HP and said we should probably try a different brand. so we bought the acer aspire laptop and its having the same problem. it wont connect because of the IP address configuration. we've literally done everything.

the only difference between our laptops besides the brand is that his is windows vista and mine is the new windows 7. has anyone else had a similar problem and knows how to repair it?

please leave any information below.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show for a good connection and for the problem condition ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

Hi guys,

This is my first post - and I am a beginner level user. Sorry I could not run the TSG SysInfo utility as I am posting this from work - not from my home laptop which has this issue.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 and I have a Sitcom 300N Wireless Gigabyte router. I have an HP dv2600 series laptop. I always run windows update and so you could assume I have all of the most recent service packs etc.

I recently purchased a new VPN and downloaded the associated application. The VPN runs on Open VPN protocol and installs a driver for the Tap Win32 V9 adapter which I assume it uses to connect to the VPN server. In the Networking & Sharing Centre, this new connection shows up as Local Area Connection 2.

When I run the VPN application, everything happens as it is supposed to. The application system tray icon turns bright green and when I hover my mouse over it , the label indicates the VPN is connected. I am able to access blocked websites (e.g. skype successfully) and if I visit "whats my ip" or the like, It indicates a different IP and location to my real one.

There is an indication though of a problem which my VPN support has not been able to address and is causing me to worry a little.

When the VPN is connected and I hover my mouse over the network connection status icon in my system tray, the status of the VPN connection access is "Local Only".

Speed tests show that the download speed of the VPN connection is very slow relati... Read more

Hello all!

I've had this problem since I bought a new desktop PC with windows 7 installed. Every once in a while my internet stops working (router+modem) and a yellow exclamation mark appears. When I use the windows solution utility I get two different messages:

a)either my wireless network connection does not have a valid IP

b) the default gateway is not available

I am using d-link dwa-127 wireless adapter since my computer does not have an integrated wifi card, and I have already removed norton, which could possibly be blocking my conncection. I have tried setting my IP manually, but it does not work.

At the beginning it all functioned normally, and even now it works, but it did not before. I also noticed that when it does not work it says 'Unidentified network', and when it does it says 'Smuc' (the ssid of our network).
The internet as such is working this whole time, I always check it on my laptop with windows XP and an integrated WiFi card.

How could I solve this problem and keep my internet connection stable?

A few days ago I had to restart my PC after a game froze. When I booted up again I found I was unable to connect to the internet. Troubleshooting gave the error 'Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration.'
I can connect to the modem with my laptop using the same cable, so I don't think its an issue with the router or
cable. I was told that programs could cause issues with the network adapters, so after backing up my data I wiped my computer and re-installed windows from a bootable usb.

Here is the IP config data.

I've run the flushdns file, but it seems to timeout while running the Ipconfig /renew command.

Following instructions from another thread I was told to reset the TCP/IP stack. Running the command gave the following.
From there I followed instructions to use regedit to change permissions, which enabled me to run the command without errors, however I was still unable to connect to the router when my computer reset.

Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

A:Ethernet doesnt have a valid ip configuration

You are getting a 169.254 address, whigech means that your computer is not getting a DHCP address and is assigning itself an IP in the APIPA range.

I'd reboot your router, and ensure that the DHCP server functionality is enabled.

So... I just updated from win 7 to win 10, as I got it for free. All went smoothly, but there was no ethernet connection. I'm running a custom built pc, connected to my router via ethernet cable.

At first windows detected the cable, but said: ''Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I was on about around the settings, and deleted the ethernet network from windows' settings. I thought it would come back by just re-plugging the cable. This didn't happen. What happened was, that the whole 'Ethernet' tab disappeared from the 'Network & internet' menu!

I also don't have 'Wi-fi' or 'Airplane mode' tabs in the menu... Well I have a pc that doesn't have support for wifi so that might be why...

Does anyone have a clue on how to get win 10 to detect the ethernet cable, and maybe that way bring back the 'ethernet' tab?

Oh, and I tested the ethernet cable on my laptop (running win 7), and it worked fine.
Thanks in advance!

I've been using my netbook to get online for some time. However, recently my dad needed to reboot our modem several times because he was encountering problems with his laptop. This got the wireless working for a little while, but the need came to restart the modem again, so he did. Unfortunately, this put the wireless on the modem out of action. Originally, my laptop wouldn't even recognize the network's existence, but after a 3-hour-long tech support call to AT&T, our internet service provider, I finally got my laptop to recognize the network. Although the tech support lady was very helpful, and walked me through doing numerous things to both the laptop and modem, my laptop still will not connect fully to the network. By "will not connect fully" I mean that it gives me an error message, saying "connection unsuccessful", and on the list of networks, listed next to my network it says "Limited Access". I've attempted to troubleshoot the problem multiple times, and so far the only thing that comes up is the message "Windows cannot connect to [name of my network]", and something saying I don't have a valid IP configuration. I have full access to the modem's configuration as well, and I've checked the firmware and other things to see if there is a problem with the modem. After numerous tests and diagnostics, nothing seems to come up that says there is anything wrong with the modem, but the limited access problem still occurs for my Dad's... Read more

A:Limited Connectivity / Does not have a valid IP configuration

I'm not absolutely sure but I think I might have an idea as to the problem. I'm assuming your modem also functions as a router being you mentioned you connect to it through wireless, this being the case it must also function as the DHCP server for your network. If the computers attempting to connect to the network are not set up to use DHCP, or the modem itself is not set up to act as a DHCP server, that could be causing the IP configuration error.

Hey guys, little problem here. I just bought my wife a new laptop with Windows 7 on it. When I first got a hold of it, I proceeded to remove all the HP bloatware that was installed. I went to Add/Remove programs and uninstalled everything that had HP beside it.

Next, I tried to have the laptop connect to my wireless router (DLINK DI-524). It found my network, but only with limited connectivity. I ran the troubleshooter and it reported back that the wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

I then connected my internet cable directly to the laptop and I get the same message, except it says "local area connection .......".

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the network adapter, but to no avail. Any other suggestions from you guys? I know it's probably something glaringly obvious that I am just overlooking...

Quick facts
1. Internet works on my desktop.
2. Desktop has Windows Vista.
3. Internet will not connect on laptop directly or through router.
4. I have reset/rolled back/reinstalled/uninstalled everything network card related.
5. At first I uninstalled all HP bloatware on laptop

A:Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

You could always try using a static IP address

Firstly Open "control panel" click on "network and sharing center"

Click on "local area connection (1)" then follow the image clicking through to (5)
Once at 5 enter your IP address .... this will depend on what address your network is running on (I'm hoping that you know this already) I've given an example. If you router is set to eg 192.168.0.1 then you will need to enter this into the "default gateway" and "preferred DNS (6)" (I've marked the last number with an "X" as this could differ) When you enter your IP address just change the last number to anything between say 10 - 20 eg. 192.168.0.10

Do the same for your Wireless connection but change the 10 to maybe 11 ( eg 192.168.0.11)

I've been working on this for over two hours now. I have wifi on laptop. In Windows 10 I can't access internet on PC with Ethernet. On the same computer I have a Linux Mint partition and ethernet connection is fine there 160Mbps. I've unplugged (several times) modem and router. I've disabled and reenabled ethernet. I've turned off the PC and restarted. I've done all the Ipconfig commands, however "release" doesn't work as there is no media detected. About two weeks ago my ISP upgraded their modem to a 150Mbps. Since then I have been using Linux so this is the first time I've booted to W10. It worked fine before. Right now I'm waiting for a tech sevice call back from my provider to see if they can sort it out; thought I'd try here also.
TIA, Allan

It's likely that your machine with the new installation requires a visit to the Windows Update Center in order to install the latest updates which will most likely fix the wireless connection problem.

You really need to connect the first time using a wired connection so as to obtain the updates from Windows.

Hi guys,

I had a new modem/router put in my home yesterday from our broadband provider however since having it I've had nothing but issues. Our previous router never caused any issues despite being old. This is wireless btw.

There have been countless problems, I'll list them below so its easier for you to read.

1. Keeps disconnecting.
2. Alot of the time when the adapter is connected to the router it says 'no internet access'
3. unknown network symbol.
4. Only usually connects late at night or specific times of the day
5. Sometimes if can't even pick up the router!

6. troubleshoot messages have ranged from:

-wireless doesnt have a valid IP configuration

-problem with wireless adapter or access point

-the default gateway is not available

I'm really getting sick and tired of this and I feel powerless because I house share with people and there all enjoying there super fast broadband with no problems.

I have windows 7 64-bit if that helps?

Thanks to anyone who replies!

A:wireless doesnt have a valid IP configuration?

Sounds like your new router could be using a channel that's being heavily used already in your area. Connect to it via wire, log in to the administrative interface, and try changing the channel setting. This may require a bit of trial and error as wifi channel bands overlap each other and can interfere with each other. You can also try turning up the transmit power on the wireless radio, use WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP (if it is using WEP right now), turning off 802.11b support, and make sure (though this is unlikely) that it's operating strictly in 20MHz mode, not mixed or 40MHz mode.

For the last few years, my Internet has been a thing of insane annoyance.
It will be working just fine for hours, days, even weeks at a time then suddenly it only has limited access due to some problem with the IP configuration.
The usual 'dance' as I've taken to calling it goes something like this.

Limited Internet access.
Disconnect.
Reconnect.
Limited access still.
Diagnose. (even though by now I know what it's problem will be.)
Cant assign an IP address.
Try again.
Still can't do it.
Disconnect.
Reconnect.
Nope. Still dead.
Unplug router.
Plug router back in.
Still dead.
Reboot computer 4 times in a row.
aaah there we go!
Work online for 15 minutes.
Limited Internet access.
Beat head on desk.

Sometimes it will come back up at any time during the dance, other times it will be down for days for no apparent reason, reducing me to a writing pile of frustrated agony. I've tried many tricks and updates and hints but they are -all- only temporary. They will work for a bit then the whole thing will start over again.

Is there something I can do to stop this from happening? Do I need to buy a new router or something? I've tried calling my Internet provider to see if they know something about the router I don't but I almost always get someone with such a rich east Indian accent that not only cant they not understand me but I can't make out anything they're saying either so I just gave up calling them for anything.

Hi,

Yesterday my windows 10 laptop stopped connecting to the internet. I have tried many fixes so far but haven't been able to come up with a solution.

Internet troubleshooting shows: "Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration"
Internet connection displays: No Internet, secured
Internet is also working fine on other devices.
I have tried netsh winsock reset and checked that IP is being obtained automatically.

I am also attaching the troubleshooting report. Any help is appreciated been trying to fix this for a while.

Thanks in advance

I am on Windows 8. My Lenovo laptop constantly has a "Limited Connection" when trying to connect to internet. Other computers/devices connect fine to this network.

I ran the built in diagnostic and get "Wifi doesn't have valid IP configuration - Not Fixed"

I've tried ipconfig /release => no errors
then...... ipconfig /renew => and I get "...unable to contact DHCP server.."

I then tried resetting TCP/IP
`netsh int ip reset resettcpip.txt` =>
resetting interface, ok!
resetting neighbor, ok!
resetting path, ok!
resetting , failed.
access is denied

What should I try next?
Please Help!

Can you connect successfully by ethernet?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If your only email accounts are free (Hotmail, gmail, etc.) try this direct link. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have instaled Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit on my new computer. (Dual boot with XP). On my old computer there was installed XP... so the problem is:
When i tryed to share Internet connection Windows 7 gave me an error:
"Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration
but files were shared and i could transfer files from one computer to the other... (only Internet didnt work)...
So i got back to win XP and tried to share connection ( XP vs XP ) and it worked great...
Then i thought: maybe windows 7 and windows XP cant share internet connection... and i installed windows 7 on the old computer (win7 vs win7)...
But then both computers came up with the same error ("Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration).

I tried winXP on the new comp and windows 7 on the old... and it worked great!!!
I figured out thet something is wrong with windows 7 on my new computer and i did a clean installation 3 times and the same error came up...

I tried all this things and nothing worked:

1)Disable/enable NIC
2)Install latest drivers for my NIC
3)Roll back the drivers
4)cmd -> ipconfig /refresh /release
5)Disabled ip v6
6) netsh winsock reset catalog
7)tried to manually enter IP
8)tried automatic IP
9)disabled Firewall
10)Bonjour is not instaled on my windows

A:LAN doesn't have a valid IP configuration! (ICS prob.)

Not advisable to be posting that .txt online. It has your specific hardware info in it that can be abused by hackers. Especially because you connect directly to internet.

Try setting up static ip addresses for your machines and disable the mode/router's DHCP server.

Edit hosts file for each machine accordingly.

I've had my modem connected straight to my computer via ethernet cable and never really had any problems. I recently downloaded itunes to listen music on my ipod and i know this probably isn't the problem but weeks later i was prompted to download an update for itunes and of course I clicked restart after update but start up computer and internet did not work. It was this "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I've tried resetting the modem and nothing. It is worth noting that I reformatted to see if it would fix it but nothing. but once i connect my modem directly to my laptop it works perfectly fine. I also including attachments so i could possibly be better assisted. Also worth noting my motherboard is a Asus crosshair formula IV which unfortunately doesn't have updated windows 8 drivers but never gave me problems before. the ipconfig with black background is the laptop ipconfig.

After working happily for some time both PCs in house can't access iNet via LAN. Message says Router has no IP address and this is confirmed when I IPCONFIG/ALL in dos prompt.

Originally I assumed it might be a conflict between the win 7 machine and the one running Vista. So I upgraded nasty Vista machine to Windows 7.

Bizarely the wreless on the router has always worked and my worl Win 7 laptop runs happily as do various wifi smart phones, Xboxes and tablets in the house. Also working from cable both XBox360 and sky box downstairs.

Set up is
Living Room: Cable in to Router/ModemTechnicolor TG5812N Pro then Cat 5 to Xbox and Sky+ Tv Box. Cat 5 cable to TPLINK 200MBPS Plug.

Kitchen/Diner: TPLINK 200MBPS Plug cable to Win 7 Dell PC.

Upstairs: TPLINK 200MBPS Plug cable to other Win 7 PC.

-----
Other cables and router to outbuildings via TPLINK 200MBPS Plug and cables currently disabled

Using Windows Diagnostics trys to fix but says "305 Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration."
I can ping IP from laptop but not from PC.
I have tried IPCONIG/RENEW

Stopped and restarted DHCP Client in services.

Out of ideas. HELPPLEASE

A:Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Have you tried power cycling the modem/router combo plus all TP-Link devices.
First with everything unplugged for at least 30 seconds, start by powering up the modem/router first giving it a few minutes to boot up, then plugging in the TP-Link devices.
What is the model of the TP-Link? TP-PA210 or 211
Can you post the ipconfig /all in this thread.

Background:
I was a happy user of Windows 7. I did the upgrade to Windows 8 and the internet connection seemed to work fine for two days. Then a couple days ago, Windows did the usual software updates after which I shut down my computer. Next time I opened it up (yesterday), it would not connect to the internet no matter what. I am computer savvy so tried all the usual suspects but to no avail. I used the troubleshooting tool which came up with "WiFi does not have a valid IP configuration." Please don't tell me to turn off/on the router. Tried that and it doesn't work. The microsoft forums have been mostly useless as well. I've also tried the following from the command prompt (run as admin):

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"

Then rebooted and still no luck.

I'm inclined to think this may be a compatibility issue, perhaps the drivers. I have a Toshiba Satellite P750. The bottom line is that my computer is now a useless brick and it's costing me money by not being able to get online (for my work).

Below is my ipconfig /all information. I am hopeful that someone may have useful information to solve this problem once and for all. My only other option is to revert back to Windows 7 (which actually does work) and avoid Windows 8 until it becomes a relatively bug free and viable OS. Thanks for your help.

A:Windows 8 Wifi does not have a valid IP configuration

Since we're talking about wifi (wireless networking) I suspect you have a laptop. What I'm thinking is that the driver windows 8 has given you is not happy with your wireless card. More than 1 users suffer from this. Try updating the driver. Though not by the standard way of updating, since its just gonna say it already had the most updated one.
If you have another laptop/computer avaliable, Search for the driver on that one. Remove the previous driver and install a new one. I hope this will work for you.

I'm having an issue with ipconfig /release

I have uploaded a screenshot with the error I am getting, any help appreciated

A:Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Ipconfig /release, only drops the connection. It has nothing else to do with networking. Really need more information. What ISP do you have? What router or Gateway are you using? It appears from your screenshot that you are able to connect to the Gateway/Router. So what is your real problem? Not able to go to any websites? Is the connection dropping on the Router/Gateway, or at the ISP side.

I turned on my Lenovo laptop today after not having used it for about a week. It proceeded to do over 38,000 updates. I have no idea what they were all about. But when I finally logged in I was not able to connect to the Internet although I had an excellent connection to my router. Both my iPhone and my iPad are successfully connected to the same router right not so I don't think there is an issue with my router itself. I've tried all the suggestions I've seen in this venue and in others but nothing works. Can someone please help! There was also a message about an IP address conflict - that there was another device with the same IP address. I have no idea what this means or how to resolve it.

A:Connection doesn't have valid IP configuration

Wow, 38,000 updates? Were these from MS or Lenovo? I'm guessing here but I'd wager that most were from Lenovo and are really just silly updates that allow them to track you around the internet so they can target you for certain ads...

The IP address conflict isn't much of a problem, all it means is that there are two or more devices that have been assigned the same IP. The fact you get the warning tells us that you are connected to the router.

If you're connected by wire: Click 'Start', type in CMD. A window will open on the desktop. Type in 'ipconfig /release' without the quotes and with a space between. Then type 'ipconfig /renew'. Then check your internet connection.

Help I'm pulling my hair out!!!!

Got a new computer for Xmas (Dell Inspiron 560) with the all shining windows 7. However, It keeps being disconnected from the internet reporting message reads local Area Connection Doesn't have a valid IP address configuration. It does not have a Wlan built in so is connected to my router (Orange) via an ethernet cable which is working fine as used on my last computer.
When I troubleshoot and switch off the router for 30 seconds then start is up again it works and I am on line again. However, I am having to do this 3 or 4 times a day which doesn't sound right to me.
I was hoping someone on here would be able to help to solve this problem.

I have an HP p6616 desktop that came with a Realtek PCIe FE Family Ethernet adapter that cannot exceed a speed of 10 Mbps. After working with an HP customer support rep, he concluded that I had a bad set of chips. I purchased another Ethernet adapter, Realtek PCIe GBE Family, and I cannot get it to connect to the internet. Troubleshooting continually gives the ?Invalid IP Configuration? message. I tried the new adapter on another Windows 7 computer and it worked beautifully. I have tried many of the suggestions on this forum, but nothing has solved the problem, it is still getting an IPv4 address of 169.254.x.x.

ipconfig /all is attached below. In this case, the new adapter with the invalid IP configuration is ?Local Area Connection?, and the old adapter is ?Local Area Connection 2?.

I know this question seems to come out a lot but I can't seem to fix it. I am a college student and my internet has worked 100% fine until I went home this weekend and came back. It worked this weekend when I brought my computer home and when I came back today it gives me this error when I try to troubleshoot. The only thing that could have changed is when I went home I set my DNS to be openDNS because it makes a huge difference there, but I changed it back when I got here. I don't know if that would matter, but unplugging and restarting are doing nothing.

Any thoughts on how I can get my network to work?

Edit: It may be worth noting that I am running a free version of AVG and all of my windows firewalls are disabled. I am running some software the school makes us install but it has never been a problem for over a month.

A:Windows 7: Lan doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Hello trinric
I would first get rid of AVG free. It used to be a good program but I have had to delete it in order to fix a lot of computers this past year. In some computers that was the only problem. Once deleted the computer worked fine. Also you should never be without a firewall. With that said What browser are you using?

I can be connected at home to my wireless network fine and then something happens and i get 'wireless doesn't have a valid IP configuration'. Sometimes if i plug into the network (wired) the wireless will be fine again and sometimes (like now) not. Hello all. Last year I installed Windows 8 on a hand-me-down desktop computer my brother gave me. It previously had Vista on it. The installation went perfectly fine, and I had no issues with any functionality. Then, randomly some months ago my network driver (I believe that was the issue, although I am still unsure) decided to conk out and no longer connect to the internet, via ethernet or not. I just bought an 802.IN USB wireless adaptor, and it isn't working either. The error I get is "Wi-Fi 3" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

I've tried fixing this error in many ways, including attempting to set a static IP address, doing the whole netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log, netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log, and etc. The netsh ip reset commands are not working, and give me an "access denied" error. I have a 2 week old Windows 8 Gateway PC that is wired to the internet through the Ethernet card and I have a wireless router connected too for my laptop and tablet.  It's been working perfect for 2 weeks and so has my wireless on my laptop and tablet. Today I moved some things in the room and had to unplug everything. I put it all back the same and now only my wireless works on my laptop and tablet. The PC is showing limited access and when I run the diagnostics it says "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration" error message.
I have unplugged the wireless and connected the cable modem directly to the PC and it works fine. As soon as I route it through the wireless router it fails. Please I don't understand how I unplugged everything for only a few hours and then reconnected it exactly the same and now it doesn't work. I tried all 4 ports on the router, still nothing, I reset the TCI/IP, renewed the DNS, flushed the DNS, did a handstand, shook hands with a bear, ( so obviously I have done all the basics and more) I changed cords between router and cable, even so how come my wireless still works fine? There is nothing wrong with the antivirus, I don't have any viruses or malware, the computer hardly gets used, but today it won't suddenly work. Please, any suggestions. Thank you.

I have a Dell Intel Pentium Desktop and a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7; the router is a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N 150. Until 8/17/11 I was able to make wireless/wired connection with my laptop, I can make connection with desktop with no problem. When I run troubleshooter I'm informed that "Wireless doesn't have a valid ip configuration", or "connection between router access point, router cable, internet modem broken". Connection also defaults to "Unidentified network" instead of my home network. I have reset my laptop, desktop, cable modem, router; device manager informs me that all hardware is working properly also, I updated firmware, and verified the most recent drivers installed. Connection has been setup since July 2010 and I have experienced no problem up until now. If someone could assist me and help to to fix this problem I would really appreciate it

A:Wireless doesn't have valid ip configuration

Welcome to the forum taradenise!

Sorry to hear you are having problems!

It is obvious from this image that you are not connecting to the router at all... the IP showing is an autoconfig IP starting with 169.254.xxx.xxx. So, your issue is probably with the router.

Since all was working fine earlier, I am willing to bet that on or around 8/17/11 you had power outtage, you unplugged, or moved your router. ???

If unplugged for a period of time, many routers will reset to factory defaults.

If you send me the same image from the desktop, along with the model and make of your router, I should be able to help you get this back up easily!

Hello,

I have a brand new PC workstation.

Everything was fine, until recently, when I turn on my PC, I don't get an immediate internet connection. This is happening nearly everytime now with some frequency.

I reset the router/modem and everything is fine after that, so all is good.

But it is still frustrating. I get, "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

I googled this and it appears I am certainly not alone.

The following to assist you are screenshots of my 'ipconfig' and 'Network Connection Status' before (unsuccessful) and after (successful) internet access:

You will see from the above that there is certainly something different with the data...

I'm sure it is something so simple.

I haven't tried this yet and that is probably down to the fact that I can't find my alternate DNS server setting (the very last box to fill in - watch the video and you will know what I mean) ???

Many thanks for reading, please help me.

Hello,

I'm about 4 hours deep into trying to fix this. I've followed several forum posts with similar issues, with no luck.

I've been running windows 10 on my PC with my current hardware (including modem/router) for about a year now with no issues. Yesterday I booted up and had no internet access. The error was something to do with "sockets". I ran the netsh socket reset command, which simply changed the error to my current invalid IP configuration error.

So here's my current state:

I'm typing this from a laptop I dug out of storage. On this laptop I have internet access both through ethernet and the on-board wifi adapter.

On my PC, the ethernet connection is through my motherboard (adapter: Interl Ethernet Connection I218-V), and I have a separate wifi card (adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR938x). Whether connected with ethernet or wifi, the connection status is:

IPv4 Connectivity: No Network Access
IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet Access

All items in the properties list are checked, including the IPV4/IPv6 items. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the ethernet and wifi adapters. I'm reinstalling from the latest Intel driver installer (PROWinx64).

I've tried the various netconfig commands. If I call "ipconfig /release" I get:

"An error occurred while releasing interface Ethernet 2: An address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint".

Here is my ipconfig /all

I've tried a dozen other things, but I don't want to convo... Read more

Hi all, what does it mean? I'm using Connectify Pro and sent a support request ticket, meanwhile two weeks later and still no response.
Connectify says it is running, sharing local connection, on 192.168.37.1 I've tried adding that ip to the router and it says it's illegal.
I have a wired adsl modem, and an atheros wifi card which has sharing enabled. OS is W7. Hopefully someone can work out what is going on. Attached screenshots. TIA.

Hello

I have a problem that drives me crazy. Randomly, my wifi disconnects many times a day (Limitted conectivity or ), sometimes every 5 minutes. I solve the problem temporarly by:
1.)Running the Troubleshoot of the wifi connection, and it resets the adapter automatically( and at the end of the troubleshotting it says: "WiFi doesnt Have a valid IP configuration, or sometimes The default gateway is not available")
2.)Sometimes the Troubleshooter cant reset the adapter, and I have to do it manually.

By reseting the adapter, the problem is solved only temporarly, because I have to do that mayby 20 times a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I use Windows 8 on Asus K55 VJ , Intel Centrino 2230 adapter with up to date driver.

PLEASE, PLEASE help me, the laptop is new, its sold as a Windows 8 engine, and its really embarrassing that I have this problem...

For default gateway problems try typing in the gateway "192.168.10.1" into the IPv4 properties of the wireless network adaptor.

Sometimes windows has problems picking up the gateway from certain routers which is usually just a hardware compatibility problem.

The link below explains the process.

Hello! Today a friend of mine wanted me to download some things for her, and because her internet is extremely slow. When I turned it on and attempted to connect to my router, it said that I have no valid IP configuration. I've tried going to cmd.exe and typing in ipconfig/release then ipconfig /renew, but it only resulted in it saying: "No operation can be preformed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected"
Help me out? Here's the ipconfig /all.

Saturday When I Got Home The Wireless Said "Unidentified Network No Internet Access" I ran trouble shooter and it said windows doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I called Time Warner 4 times and told each person on the phone this and all they did was reset the modem over and over which isn't helping me. I currently using a friends wireless.. Can someone help me with this problem?

A:Arris Modem/Routeer No Valid Ip Configuration?

How did TWC have you reset the modem? Did they just have you unplug your modem from the AC outlet? Is this modem a combo modem router or do you have a separate router connected to the modem? To technically reset the router and or modem you need to push in the reset button on the back of the device. Use a paper clip and push in an hold down for 15 to 30 seconds then release.

Hi,

I have a relatively new HP Envy (H8-1485ea), with no modifications made, running windows 8. I have had the been using it with a wired connection at university with no problems and on return home connected wirelessly. Initially I encountered no issues, however after about 2 days the status of the connection went to limited and has remained that way since.

On running the windows troubleshooter it stated that the "wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration".

I searched this forum and found the suggestion to run the commands which resolved similar problems:
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset rest.log hit

However as shown in the attached image for the second command resetting failed. I am not sure if this is where I am going wrong or if there is another issue.

I have also attached my ip configuration.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem would be much appreciated, Thanks.

A:wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration (Limited)

Do you have anything else connecting to the router that actually works (either wired or wirelessly)?
Have you tried power cycling the modem and the router?
Have you tried an ipconfig /release and then an ipconfig /renew after power cycling both?

Hi guys, I have a self built desktop that I only connect to the internet with using WiFi. But lately the connection on this PC is very intermittent and this is the only device in my house with this problem (so it's not the modem/router?). My PC has an Asus P8Z77-V motherboard with an Intel 82579V ethernet adapter and a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wifi adapter, and I am running W10. Admittedly, I don't know much about networking but regardless this problem seems mind boggling!
Many times throughout the day my wifi connection will become 'Limited' and I cannot access the internet. I've noticed that during these times my IP address assigned by DHCP will be some useless 169.x.x.x number, but the strange part is sometimes the problem can be fixed by disabling my Intel ethernet adapter in Device Manager. Of course this is only temporary and I have even 're-fixed' the problem by enabling the same adapter after I have already disabled it.
I have even tried disabling the ethernet controller in BIOS in a moment of frustration but it didn't have any effect.
Windows troubleshooting gives me a variety of messages, most often 'IP configuration for wi-fi is not valid'. I suspect the ethernet adapter is interfering with this somehow but the troubleshooting application has also told me my security settings for the network are wrong, which I know they are not, or that there is a 'problem with the wireless adapter or access point'.

Thank you for any help you all can give! This is driving me batty ... Read more

This is the message I get when diagnosing my hardwire connection to the internet. I just got this computer yesterday and it worked find. I allowed it to implement all the windows updates during the afternoon. I don't recall if the hardwired connection stopped working after all the updates occurred. Today, when I started up the computer, there is no hard wire internet connection. The computer has a wireless connection option and fortunately that works. I called tech support and they said they would just send me a refund, thinking it's the network card. But, the tech seemed not to have much knowledge or interest in trying to fix the problem. I uninstalled the adapter in device manager and let it reinstall itself. It says its working properly.

Any other suggestions or just get a new computer?
Thanks

Is this the same pc as here?:

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi,

I have Vista 32 bit Home Prem and am trying to change the settings on the Backup program. It was working fine up until 3 weeks ago, when my external h/d was accidentally dropped, then the backups failed from then on. I now have a brand new external h/d.

The program detects the location of the h/d just fine, however when I get to the screen asking which disks to backup, the program is not detecting the C & D Disks. It says Unknown (C) Missing, total size 0 bytes; same for the D Drive.

The program allows me to continue with the setting changes and I get all the way to the end and I get this error message:

Back up Configuration is not valid - error 0x81000029.

I've attached images of the screens with the error message.

I'm growing very frustrated by all of this as I REALLY need to back up my data!

Thanks,

Hay I am new here cos this is bugging me

I have read soooo many forums and have got no where which is a pain.
Set up is trying to connect PC to Xbox via ethernet to bridge connection, or just trying to connect PC to laptop until I can sort this out.

Here is a 'short' list of what has been done so far:
Uninstall AVG
Assign IPV4 manually/automagically
Reset the router a billion and 1 times
Tried a different cable
Done the netsh and winsock resets
IP /release and /renew (which does not seem to work for the local ethernet)
Deleted a load of tunnel connections
Gone into services and made sure internet something sharing was automatic and started. It won't start.
Tried to do the thing where you try and set the unidentified network to a home or private network (cant remember how) but that did not work.

Probably missed 1 or 2 things out but yeah.

Here is a list of my ipconfig /all results (This is with manual IP (Was told no gateway on one of the forums but I have done it with a gateway))

Have you tried power cycling the modem/router/computer?

Turn all off.
Turn on modem, wait till it settles down.
Turn on router (if you have one) and wait for it to settle.
Turn on computer.

See if that helps. If not, click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

Guys, I really need your help.

I got a new laptop a couple days ago. It was for work so I brought it to the office. We have an open network in the office, you just need to plug into it with a regular cable. We've had it for years and it always worked. Not this time.

When I'd first plugged it, it came online, but the connection had been lost in a couple minutes. When nothing obvious worked, I tried to diagnose and got the infamous "Local Area Connection doesn't have valid IP configuration" error. I've been googling it ever since, trying to do everything possible to fix this.

The network adapter is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

I've tried using different cable, restarting the router, all the ipconfig stuff, resetting winstock etc. I've formatted the hard drive and installed Win 7 from scratch. I've checked the BIOS - it only has one LAN-related setting and it's enabled. I've been to Realtek website and downloaded their latest drivers. The latest one is from Jan

Finally I've seen a few thread suggesting that this whole issue is router-related. So I brought the laptop home to try it there without any router in the way. It was pretty much the same - got connection, working for half a minute, gone. Diagnosing got me the same error. I've tried disabling ipV6 and playing with adapter configuration, but it didn't change much.

Nothing. Sometimes diagnosing makes the laptop recognise the network, but it's only for a short time.

Hello there dear friends.

I just registered to your forum searching for help to a very persistent and annoying problem i have been facing.

While my internet works fine, many times a day (every day) the connection will fail and a yellow exclamation pyramid will appear at my connection status. When i perform a troubleshoot at my connection the problem is recognized as Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration and the problem is immediately repaired.

Now as you understand this is a very annoying problem because i am unable to perform many internet functions demanding time as downloading a file or playing an online game because i will drop every once and a while. I noticed that many people have been facing this problem but they couldent connect at all in the internet, as you understand my problem differs because i can connect to the internet but i get dropped every once and a while.

I am using a wireless router: airties rt-205
my laptops network card is a realtek rtl8191se
and i am using windows 7 home premium 32bit.

Before you ask i have already updated my networks card and routers drivers to the latest ones.

I beg you masterminds of windows 7 forums please help me solve this very annoying problem thats killing all the fun of my internet.

(ps if you need the details of the troubleshoot report just let me know)

Hi BlitzGreek, welcome to the forums

My next door neighbour had the same issues but it turned out to be a fault with the router. You could try 1 thing...Turn the router off, press and hold the reset button (found on the back of the router) for 5-10 seconds then power on again.

   Note
This will completely reset the router to factory settings without reverting to previous firmware. It can take up to 2 minutes for the connection to be fully restored.

   Information
ISP's tend to send router updates up the line but this can cause connectivity issues

Hope it helps

A:Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

How are you setting up your laptop to share internet with the desktop? Ad-hoc? If so it would only be a temporary setup and more than likely your desktop will drop off when you restart laptop/desktop.

From the ipconfig, you're desktop's ipv4 is 169.254.71.63(Preferred). No good!
Desktop also does not see gateway.

Try this on your desktop ipv4 setting (set up manual IP not dhcp):

Address===> 192.168.0.10
Mask====> 255.255.255.0
Gateway=====> 192.168.0.254
DNS =====> 87.244.194.90
217.119.113.245

(not sure why the gateway has that ip but if your laptop works should be good)

One afternoon my laptop decided to have "an initentified network" after having no problems previously with our dsl router. I am working from my functional desktop computer, so I will not be able to download any new drivers, etc. on the dysfunctional laptop since obviously I have no internet connection on it. After going through your forums and trying a couple of things to no avail, I did do the ipconfig/all, copied it on a usb and moved it over here. Here it is, I hope you can help. Thanks! Buffy624 Note: Also it looks like something weird is there for my DNS servers??? If that's the case, how would I change that in the little black box area of cmd.exe without messing anything seriously up. PS - also in going through the forums, I removed Bonjour since it was recommended in some of the answers - will that be a problem?

I have re-install the network adapters,it is work
but when I reboot the computer , it can not access the network

what should i do?

A:local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration

Open Device Manager and see if any areas (Network Adapter or Unknown Devices) has a yellow mark by it.

When you say you re-install the network adapters, do you mean you downloaded and installed the driver?

What is the make and model number of your computer.
Laptop or Desktop?
How do you normally connect to the internet?

I get the error "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration in Windows 7.This is my desktop computer and is a direct connect to my broadband modem. All of my wireless connections are working. I have had Comcast out and there is no problem with the modem. This started on Jan 3, 16. My laptop connected to the modem wirelessly on Dec 25, 15 and works fine (except that it has that awful Windows 10 but that's another story). My wireless printer was installed in Feb and is working fine but does show an error - A router/access point channel conflict has been detected. The Comcast tech could not find that problem since the printer is working.
I have read similar problems and suggestions and tried many of the including ipconfig/renew but it failed. I tried 'netsh int ip reset reset.log' and it failed. I also tried to manually put in the ip addresses with no luck. Any suggestions to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated.
By the way, the problem started right after I installed WebRoot on my laptop. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. I know that it is probably just a coincident but wanted to mention it.

Sounds like webroot did some optimisations, do you have a restore point prior to its installation if so use it.

The ipconfig looks mostly ok to me although it appears that you have a DNS of 4.2.2.2 typed into the IPv4 settings window, it might be best to remove that entry from IPv4 and then type the DNS servers you want to use into your routers set up page instead, where ever it says DNS servers type in the two you want to use for example Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 .

In the Network and Sharing Center> Manage Wireless Connections, the profile for this connection should be using WPA2 with AES encryption, the same settings should be showing up in your routers set up page. After that please post the ipconfig/all again. If you can check that out first it would be most helpful.

Recently, I can't connect to the internet. when I tried to troubleshoot the problem, it gave me the following line :
"Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"
I have two PCs and when I connect the mothem/router to the second PC, everything is okay and internet is on (So I am sure the problem is not from the modem/router and it is from windows)

I searched many forums and websites and tried many solutions but none of them helped me.

these are the solutions that I tried :

-
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

-
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log

- repairing windows

- uninstalling any security softwares like firewall and antivirus

- disabling/enabling or uninstalling/installing the network hardware from device manager

- using another network card and another network cable

- uninstall the Bonjour sevice

here is the two screenshots of using ipconfig /all, ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew commands :

A:Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

If you havn't done so yet you should reset the router and go through the routers set up page making sure that all settings are correct. As it stands you aren't getting a thing from the router. Try a different eithernet cable also please.

Routers can behave like this and do so on a regular basis, they can give out an IP to one machine and not the next for unknown reasons, happens all the time.

This also needs to be done just to eliminate the possibility that it's not a simple router problem which is the most likely cause.

First, connecting to someone else's wifi is both illegal and makes you vulnerable to malware.

If it is secured and yours you should know the logon, if you dont it not yours to use.

Please run the following and upload snapshots of the output

start>cmd>right click and run as admin>ipconfig /all

A few days ago I arrived to Germany to a study for a semester. In the house where I'm staying there's a modem with a Lan Cable that I'm supposed to use. I plugged it the day I arrived and I notices I had no Internet connection. After running a few diagnoses the system told me that "Local Area network" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I don't know why this message appears and why can't I connect to the Internet. I've checked so many forums and I'm starting to believe there's no solution to my problem.
I've checked that the IP is in automatic configuration and I've also tried to connect with other modems what I obtain the same result....
PLEASE HELP ME, I will fail all my courses without Internet

A:Local Area Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration

You might need to power down the laptop, then power off the modem. Keep the modem powered off for about 30 seconds then power it back on. let the lights cycle through until you see connectivity on the modem, then (After plugging the ethernet cable into the LAN slot) power the laptop back on.

If it still doesn't work, you may want to check for Antivirus/Security software/Static Ips.

Hello. I have the Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration problem which I've googled and discovered is common and well known, i.e., make sure the adapter is set to obtain the IP automatically, and if that fails update the drivers.

However... I need help getting the drivers installed. I don't know where to get them from, or where to install them to.

The computer that is not connecting either via ethernet or wifi is an Acer laptop running Win 10. I have a Lenovo running 8.1 that does connect, thus I must use the Lenovo to get the drivers, then transfer them to the Acer and install them.

Can someone please tell me how to do this? Where do I get the driver files (specifically, how do I know which files I want) and then how to install them once I've transferred them to the Acer?

Thank you

A:Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration ... newb question

Provide make and model for the Acer laptop, so we can look up the network interfaces. Also might be nice to let us know if you're using wired Ethernet or WiFi on the Acer machine. If you can provide that info, we can get you headed in the right direction. HTH,
--Ed--

PS: I keep an el cheapo StarTech USB 3.0 to GbE adapter around (Newegg: $22) for when NICs go south. You can plug it into most PCs (the drivers load automatically) and use a fast, simple, wired Internet connection to fix a machine that's having problems with its built-in network interfaces quickly and easily. In these days of Windows 10, I use it at least once a month!

I have two computers side by side plugged into a Netgear wired switch. One computer works, the other does not. The one that does not work works when I hook it directly to the modem though.

When it is hooked to the switch it says "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" when I troubleshoot it.

Thank you for any help!

A:Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Re boot the modem, reboot the switch. Re boot the problem pc.

There is no reason the second pc shouldn`t work off the switch.

Are you positive it`s a switch ?

am currently unable to connect to the internet. Windows 7 64bit, hard wired connection.

This problem has been happening off and on lately, and it seems to fix itself. But Ive currently been out of internet for 5 hours and its driving me crazy. For some reason my internet decided to stop working. Local area connection doesnt have a valid ip configuration, is the error message I get. Other devices on my network are able to connect via WiFi, but I cannot connect and I am hardwired.

Things Ive tried:
Ipconfig /release /renew /flushdns
Netsh winsock reset
Reset router/modem
Reinstall network adapter Realtek PCIe GBE family controller 2
Windows troubleshooting
Disable/reenable network adapter
Restarting computer multiple times
Using google public dns servers
I also cannot connect via safemode with networking
I cannot load my router GUI page at 192.168.1.1

Any help would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

We are setting up in a new office building that has a network. All of our phones are on VOIP. We have Windows 7 machines and a few macs.

When we connect to the network (either directly, or through a router or switch) only the phones will connect and work.

When we try to connect our machines we get the error "local are connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration"

Can anyone shed some light on this?

A:VoIP works but our computers dont have a valid IP configuration!

Hello Mike, welcome to SF!

We'd like to help but need some more info...
What is the LAN configuration like? How many PC's?
Do the MAC's not work either?
Where does your DHCP server run? Is it a small office network on 1 router? Or is the setup larger?
If you look at any PC's ip in it's network setings... what is it? and the gateway?

Alright, so I've been following all of the 100k other post about this and it's gotten me nowhere, so I figure I'll post and hopefully get more direct help.

Having the "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP config" problem totally out of nowhere. My Windows 10 PC is a new build, and I'm currently using a Windows 7 laptop to tether internet TO. It was previously working, and then just stopped totally.

I've done numerous CMD resets, driver checks, uninstall/reinstalls of adapters to no avail. I'd appreciate ANY help!
