Enable wireless adaptor

Q: Enable wireless adaptor

So I just got a brand new laptop, a Dell Inspiron. I turned it on, started adjusting properties to suit me, and tried to connect to my internet connection. In the process I wanted to disconnect from my internet, but nstead I pressed disable. Now I can't figure out at all how to enable the thing again. I try to troubleshoot it and it tells me that the wireless adaptor is disabled, but gives me absolutely no clues on how to enable it again.

How do I do this? 5 minutes old and I already have problems...

A: Enable wireless adaptor

Usually its a special keystroke, something like ALT+F8 - check above the laptop keys : are there special functions shown, perhaps a wireless icon?

If you are able to take a photo of the keyboard and post here we can solve it in two shakes of a lambs tail.

I have spent ages looking through posts on here and haven't been able to find exactly what Ive been looking for. However, as people on here clearly know exactly what they are talking about, I thought Id ask for your help

I have a FS Amilo Li1718. Until this week, when I started my machine, it started with wifi auto enabled, so I didn't have to use the hot key to search for my router. I could just boot it up, leave it and it would come on and connect immediately to my wireless router.

I then had a crash and had to manually reboot. Since then, this facility has stopped and I now have to wait for my machine to start, then manually press the hot key for wireless to enable.

Not a massive problem, but I would ideally like the automated process to return. I have been dealing with the techguys @ pcworld, but they seem to be struggling with it a bit

Thanks in advance...............

I just installed this product USB Dual High Gain Antenna Wireless N Wifi Adaptor
USB Dual High Gain Antenna Wireless N Wi-Fi Adapter (eBay item 170608181616 end time 25-Jul-11 14:23:40 AEST) : Computers

Soon as I plugged it in, my Win 7 (64) machine instantly identified it and installed the driver. Only problem is, the adapter remains disabled. I try to enable it, but it instantly disables itself when I do.

I could not find any clues in the System event log.

It's actually an rtl8187 chip by realtek. I tried installing drivers from the manufacturer (from the CD and from the internet) but windows insists that the microsoft driver it installed on detection is the most up-to-date driver and it ignores mfr driver. I tried installing a "legacy device" and I manually chose the mfr driver, but it does not work (and still has the microsoft driven device listed in device manager).

I tried this unit on another PC (also running windows 7 64bit) and it worked flawlessly. But on the two machines which really need the device, they both cannot enable the device once installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Spasmoid, welcome to SF!

A couple of questions to help me understand what happens better...
- From your (limited) system spec's I gather you're connecting this on a tower (desktop pc)?
- Did this tower did have a previous wireless USB connection?
- Did the pc on which it DID work already have a USB connection + is that PC also a tower/desktop (i.e. not a laptop)
- Did you try removing all related installed drivers, reboot, install software from disk first and only then connect the device?

I have an HP Pavilion DM1-3100sa laptop. AFAIK, it's pretty much the British/European version of the American DM1z, and is more or less identical.

I installed a pair of VPN clients on it: Hamachi and Watchguard Mobile VPN 10.10. I noticed that the wireless connection started to behave erratically (dropping in and out, refusing to connect), so I uninstalled them both. This made both my network adaptors (wired and wireless) refuse to work at all any more.

In an attempt to get them going again, I opened up device manager, turned on "Show hidden devices" and just uninstalled everything under the Network Adaptors tab and rebooted, on the grounds that Windows would be smart enough to just re-detect and re-install the drivers again.

And it worked! Mostly. Both devices now appear in device manager (and report that they are "working properly"). The wired connection works fine (I'm posting this over it). The wireless connection, however, appears "disabled" in Network Connections, and trying to "enable" it does nothing.

"Diagnose this connection" tells me that there "might be a problem with the driver", specifically that "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter".

The laptop has a keyboard button to turn the wireless adaptor on and off to save battery. That appears to work fine: the LED on the key flicks between white (on) and orange (off) when I press it. There's no obvio... Read more

I've just installed a wireless PCI adaptor (Tenda W322P 11N) in my desktop PC but I can't 'enable' it - every time I double click it starts to enable then stops and leaves it disabled with no warning or error messages.

The system is definitely seeing it as it's listed in Device Manager, and if I bring up Network Connections (using ncpa.cpl) it's listed and shown as disabled. Why would windows stop it from being enabled??

I've tried downloading new drivers from the manufacturers site in case the drivers on the disk were old - no difference. I uninstalled it and removed the drivers and then re-booted so windows would use it's own drivers - no difference.

It seems the system has a problem with it, but surely ONE of the drivers would work if it was a driver problem?

A:Windows wont let me enable wifi adaptor

the software driver on their site is up to version 4.
If you are running on the driver off the disk it may be problematic.

Hi All,

Here at work we recently had an access point installed for customer access to the internet. We have had no problems with anyone access the network until today. I am not that knowledgeable with wireless so please forgive me if I fail to give you what you need to help.

D-Link DWL-G700AP Wireless Access point

normally customer just click on connect to networks and their adapter finds the many wireless networks in our area (about 8). They choose our network and type in the network key and they are connected.

We have a customer in this morning (now) that cannot connect.
Here is what I have found:

If you click on the wireless icon, choose connect to any network. You get: "Cannot find any network."

I then setup a connection manually; still does not find networks.

Here is the weird part: If you go into the Control Panel, choose Wireless Config Utility; Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility, Choose site monitor site. It shows a list of the wireless networks and there signal strength. So the wireless adapter is receiving the wireless signals, but will not connect or show them in the list of wireless networks.

I would really appreciate help in figuring out what is keeping this computer from connecting.

Just reinstalled Windows XP Pro on a friend's daughter's computer. A D-Link Airplus dwlg510 wireless adaptor was added to her EMachine a few years back (model D6417). It was working erratically before the XP reinstall (which was done for another reason - was never done and computer was really slow so we figured this might speed it up - it did dramatically by the way). I went to the D-Link site and downloaded and installed the driver. Wireless connection still isn't working (tried wired and it works fine, but her room doesn't have a cable connection available) and the symbol in the taskbar comes up with an X over it then goes out. Light on the adaptor is blinking. Is there anything else I could be overlooking??

I have a wireless-G linksys USB network adaptor (2.4 GHz 802.11g) that cannot pick up my wirless network. It is however picking up numerous other networks surrounding my house. Right now I'm using my Toshiba laptop that is connected to the same home network that my linksys adaptor cannot find.

Can anyone offer my any advice as to how to find my wireless network through my USB adaptor hooked up to my desktop computer? I know how to access my router information (Enter for linksys and all that other good stuff) but do not know what exact settings I may needto change in order to have my desktop computer recognize the home network.

Is something perhaps hidden on the router information? Or is my adaptor out of date? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Lieskens, and welcome to TSG.

Did you get a printed User Guide with the adapter or a PDF file for the User Guideon a CD? If not, there is a download link for an Adobe Acrobat PDF file on the Trendnet web site:

The guide seems include the set-up procedure for establishing a connection. You will need to know the Wireless SSID of the router and any encryption key being used.

The compatibility with your modem won't be the issue, it'll simply be the compatibility with your computer and your router. As long as the device is compatible with Windows 7 you should be fine. You can check the compatibility via the Windows 7 compatibility center.

You should also know that you may be able to fix your BSOD if you post the minidumps from your crashes in the crashes and debugging section of this forum.

Here's a decent adapter that should work for you.

It depends on what you have for wireless in your home or where you will mainly use it. It makes no sense to get a wireless N adapter if the places you will use it most only have G. Linksys, 3Com, Belkin, Netgear are all good.

Hey all, I've posted this in Wireless Networking, but as its not actually a network problem, I'm posting here too...

Got a shiney new Mesh Elite2 PC the other day, but something is being weird. I've installed my Zoomair USB Wireless Adapter (should point out I've never had a problem with it before) but here's the weird thing - when I turn the PC on, it thinks the wireless adapater is an unplugged ethernet connection, and if I unplug the adaptor, the PC restarts.
The error message I get says its something to do with the video card (highly unlikely I think), but I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the adapter and the USB ports, and its still doing the same thing. Ideas anyone? I'm on Win XP Media Centre with SP 2 installed.

My pc is driving me crazy. I frequently get dumped for a few seconds at a time by my internet provider. When I do, my wireless adaptor automatically connects to this unsecured public network somewhere around me instead of reconnecting to my network. I've gone in to network settings and unchecked automatically connect to the public one and told it to connect to my network. Next time I'm dropped, it switches right back to connecting to the public one and the option to automatically connect is checked again. I have to be missing something somewhere. Is there any way to permanently tell my adaptor to never, ever, ever connect to a particular network and have those settings stay? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have an Dell c640 laptop. It is actually one of about 25 laptops I have in my small computer lab as an instructional technology teacher.

I wiped off windows and reinstalled it (xp) because these laptops are old and not supported by our tech team any longer. ( I am sure they would have looked at it but they don't care much about them so I did it)

I downloaded and saved the drivers from Dell so that I could reinstall them after the new Windows installation.

I have all of them on except for the Intel proset wireless adaptor. I was able to install the pro set software and I can see the icon in the service tray but it has a red x and stays "unable to detect a supported wireless adaptor".

The device manager only shows a 3Com 3c920 integrated Fast Eternet Controller under the network adaptors. I know that it is suppose to show the pro set here as the other laptops I have do.

How can I get the adaptor on so my wireless will work?? The software tells me to remove the card and reinstall but I do not think I have that card.

Any ideas?

I've got a small problem with my Netgear WG311v3 wireless network adaptor. I've looked just about everywhere under the sun to find an answer and I can't seem to find one. So I hope one of you guys can help.

So I installed the card in a spare PCI slot. I installed Windows 7 drivers for the card. After installing the drivers, I get this error message - "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". When I try to update the driver software automatically, it seems to think the software is up to date. The wireless card has no connectivity whatsoever.

But then something weird happened. I saw on another forum that someone has taken out 2GB of their 4GB of ram and it started to work. So I opened up my PC, took out 2GB of memory and left the other two in there. Alas, my wireless adaptor works.

Does anyone know why? I know it's a fairly old card; November 2003 it was released. But, I don't really like the idea of forking out more money for another card when I know this one works perfectly fine.

System specs are as follows...
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Intel DG43NB mobo
Atapi IHAS324 optical drive
4GB of ram

Any help would be appreciated,

Hi Folks,

is this weird or what? Last Friday the security guys installed the final phase of a new system that included a wireless router. It think they could have just used a standard one but most nowadays are wireless. When I came back after the weekend I switched my Dell Inspiron 510M on and received a prompt "Choose a wireless network". Strange because I didn't have my Belkin Network Card slotted into the side of the laptop.

So I sneaked into the survelance room and wrote down the address code and entered it into the box provided during the prompt....IT WORKED!!! Access to the outdie World via the internet while bypassing the company server.

Is the signal so strong that the eletronics in the laptop can pick up the signal (full strength) or am I being radiated with radiowaves? Shoild I be worried?

Best Regards

I am completely ignorant when it comes to networking. Let me try to make a long story short. I paid someone big bucks to network my XP computer to my husbands Windows Pro 2000, several month ago. The installler purchased what was needed. he bought a Belkin router and a Dynex wireless adaptor. He set it all up and on the most part it worked fine. (He seemed to be too busy to come see what was wrong.) At times the 2000 machine didn't want to hook up , but with persistance and restarts you could get it going.
Our electric was off for about an hour. At this time the 2000 machine was off. The XP was on but I imediately turned it off at the power surge strip. When power came back on, the XP could not hook up to my DSL. I called Verizon and after about 1 1/2 hours I was back on the web, but the tech was changing settings in the router. When finished we checked the 2000 pc and it would not connect, so they transferred me to a Belkin tech, which worked on it for another 45 minutes changing things. We were then asked to click on the network connections of the 2000 machine and when I did the wireless adaptor screen came up and I said it says "Dynex" and as you could guess the call was terminated because it wasn't Belkin. I understand that, but believe me I didn't now they were 2 different brands.
I didn't want to throw more money out the window to get the installer back so I decided to give it a try myself.
Well I uninstalled the Dynex and rein... Read more

Hi. I have windows vista home premium on a toshiba satellite L40.

I have had problems with the wireless facilty; at first, it wouldn't recognise the signal. Then after I disabled ipv6, the wireless connection worked again, albeit with occassional needs to restart the computer to regain the connection. Now the problem seems to be more serious - the computer thinks it doesn't have a wireless adaptor installed.

In the device manager, only a realtek ethernet adapter appears now, which wasn't the case before.

I have restored my computer at a point before this happened, but the problem remains. It first happened after I disabled the connection in the network window in order to try to get a connection again. I enabled it, and it said it was enabled in the box that appears saying 'enabling ...' but then it didn't appear enabled in the main explorer window. I restarted the computer and since then I apparently don't have an adaptor. Does anyone understand why this might have happened? Many thanks for your time.

Ok guys...newest problem.

I have had this Trendnet tew-444ub wireless adaptor since the end of the summer and well i have had no end of problems with it. First the signal strength was awful...i had to make myself a wokfi dish to increase the gain and that did the trick.

But the newest demon to interfere with my wireless experience is ocnstant contsant headaches with the thing going to sleep!!!!!!!!!!! Like im trying to download the new COD 4 demo past few days and i have had no luck because this thing just keeps knocking off.

Steps i have taken.

1. Device manager. make sure computer is not allowed to turn off power to it. also did the same things with the usb ports.

2. Got newest driver from the site.

3. The tinfoil dishes i made solved the problem for a night...then i was back to square one.

4. Respositioned router and the adaptor to no end.

5. Investigated with net stumbler.

6. Trawled google for hours.

To make it work again, simply unplug and plug back in. When it goes on and at startup in device manager it says the device was unable to start....

Is it a dud??? or are my usb ports rejecting it???

Thanks in advace (sorry for long rant )

Tried changing channels in router settings.
Currently looking for a way to reset my usb hubs and possibly find drivers for them???( any help here would be appreciated)I think it mihgt be a conflict with my usb hub.Maybe they dont supply it with enough juice.
I also unplugged my other usb applications save my mouse...see if usb bandwidth was the problem. No obseervations as of yet as ive just done that....but does anyone else agree its not a hardware problem in the adaptor itself but with the usb ports?

Linksys wireless adaptor, WUSB11 ver 2.6
Windows 98 SE, all updates installed.
After a reboot the card / drivers loose the ability to connect to the wireless network, it can “see” it just not successfully connect.

After entering the WEP (it only supports that) key again it will be able to log into the network.

Not a big fan of Linksys already, is this a common problem with them?

Hello, I recently bought a Zonet1642d for my computer. The installation went well but for some reason the network speed maxes out at 1 Mbps and web pages take minutes to load. I know this is either a problem with either the settings of the adapter or windows 7 since a laptop with a similar network card can get full speeds from the same location.
Any help is much appreciated and thank you in advance.

[Duronic USB-2 Wireless 802.11N Adaptor]

Have installed dongle and driver according to manufacturer's instructions.

Everything appears to be in place and working, but Windows can't find a wireless network whose wireless router is less than a metre away and working well with a laptop downstairs.

Realtek wireless LAN icon in system tray - Available Networks tab - Searching, but nothing is found. Dongle's LED is flashing slowly.

Control Panel - Manually connect to a wireless network - 'An unexpected error occurred'. Not helpful.

Windows diagnostics suggests problem is driver - searches and finds driver - informs me the installed driver is up-to-date.

The dongle connects easily when installed on an XP 32-bit machine.

Wired network connection works perfectly.

hi everyone

my computer keeps disconnecting and I get an error message that tells me that my network wireless adaptor needs resetting,
which I do, this fix lasts a while and then it disconnects again, I have taken the computer back to PC World and they
have put a diagnostic check on it and it says that the adaptor is ok. Can anyone tell me if this can be fixed, if I reset
my computer back to factory settings could this cure the problem.

It may not be your computer at all, it may be your router. Try unplugging power to the router with the Wifi on it, for 10 seconds, then plug it back in, if your Wifi connection is saved in the Wifi List, it will auto reconnect.

(My other adaptor I bought didn't have good enough range so it does need to have amazing range)
Budget: 20-30 Pounds

A:Best USB Wireless Adaptor for Gaming?

instead of getting a wireless adapter, look into power over ethernet if possible.

simply plug one in next to the router and the other next to your pc, then run an ethernet cable from router to the one next to it, and then one from your pc to the other.
then your wires in your house become hiden ethernet cables!!

Hi I just purchased a new Dell and need to get a wireless adapter so that I can connect to the internet from the home office which is actually just the room next door. The computer is very fast and I pretty much maxed it out with the processor, ram, video card etc when I bought it so, I want something that is going to be fast. I don't know if there is a difference and if playing world of warcraft would make a difference. I have an external Belkin in my daughters room for her computer which is fine I think for her-its called wireless G and is 54 mbps, 2.4 GHZ. I should have just had them put in an eternal card but wanted to save the 75 dollars. Will this be sufficient? They still carry them at walmart. They don't say for vista though-yet she has vista and it works fine. Thank you in advance for your helpp.

My son just bought an HP with Vista. I have a computer with a router attached. My wife's computer (2 rooms away) receives via this router as does my son's old computer.

However, to get internet access to his new computer we purchased a LimitOne USB Keychain wireless and it didn't work! Then we went back (thinking the LimitOne wasn't compatible with Vista) and purchased a Buffalo Wireless-G USB adapter for his new machine. It ALSO doesn't work!

I find it hard to believe that two USB adapters don't work! We're both very frustrated as he can't use his machine for anything right now.

Note: both machines are right next to each other right now, so distance should not be an issue.

Should we go exchange the USB adapter for a card?

Any other ideas?

A:Wireless Adaptor Won't Work

Driver support for Vista and USB network adapters is very poor. I don't know which USB adapter you have but I certainly had a Buffalo USB adapter working with 32-bit Vista, even though it didn't claim Vista compatibility.

My advice would be to exchange the USB adapter for a card or other USB adapter but do some research first - make sure that whatever you buy has some proper released Vista drivers and claimed Vista compatibility. If you have any trouble with it you can ring the company support line and get them to help you with it.

Try the HP support forums and see if you can find other HP owners that have found devices that work.

My daughter has a new Sony Vaio laptop, running Windows Vista. It has been fine for three weeks. Suddenly, the wireless adapter cannot see a wireless network. All other computers in the house see the network, but not the new Sony. In fact, her Sony will see the network for a few minutes, and then suddenly stop. Other times, it doesn't see it at all.

I've tried the following

turning off and then on the wireless receiver
reinstalling the device driver for the wireless card
updating the device driver for the wireless card

Nothing seems to work. She did say that all was fine until she installed Canon software for her digital camera.

Any help would be welcome.

A:problem with wireless adaptor

What's your problem is you have a good connection?
Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite L300 with Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and a T6400 processor. I haven't had any connection problems untill now. The problem I'm having now is Windows cannot find any wireless networks. I can connect through a Ethernet cable but not wirelessly. Another thing that bothers me is that I can't enable the network connection in the network connections folder. I don't know why this is happening suddenly as I haven't made any changes involving my network settings at all. I've looked it up on the internet but couldn't find anything that would help me. One solution that looked promising was: no wireless networks were found in range error

That didn't work though because my "event log" service was already set to Automatic so my case must be different. All help is appreciated and thanks a lot.

A:how can i tell if my pc has a built in wireless adaptor/capabilities

Here is a very simple way to look at what kind of network connections you have.

go into the control panel, inside here you will find an icon that says network connections.

double click this icon and you will be presented with a list of currently installed network adapters, you should see something like this: "local area connection" and it will tell you the type of adapter it is (ethernet adapter, wireless). if you only see one lan connection then its more than likely just a 10/100 NIC.

Also you can right click on my comptuer, select properties, click on the hardware tab, then select device manager. This list contains all hardware devices on your machine, expand the network adapters and see what you have there.

(note, i assume you are using windows XP)

hope this answers your question.

My son's computer shows that the signal strength is excellent, but the when I click on Status, it shows 297 send/22 received and he can't get to the internet. We have tried the ipconfig / release and renew. We have tried reinstalling the driver for the MA101 wireless adaptor. We have checked the workgroup name and SSID wireless name. Had this problem on two other pc's on our wireless network, but finally got them going. His computer is Windows XP and I cannot get it to connect. Can someone please help? I did check to see if he recently upgraded Windows XP hotfix that I read about, but he did not. We have to manually set the IP address too. It has been working fine until two days ago. Had to replace the router, but the other computers are now working fine on the network. Thanks.

A:MA101 Netgear wireless adaptor help!!!

Installed this unit on a desktop PC with XP SP1. The only way I could make it work was to disable encryption on my access point. I am connecting into a Belkin Acces Point that works very well with my Speedstream NIC's in 2 laptops I have, with encryption ON.They have alot more built into their drivers and utilities than my USB Netgear MA-101. The Netgear utility is missing a Site Survey Tab or someway to Sniff Wireless SSID's. It also has no encryption tab. Thank goodness for XPSP2.I upgraded to Xp SP2 and was able to get this device working with a very low level of encryption.A ten bit string in a manual setting of 64 bit encryption. I am willing to accept that, cause I have at least 2 other Wireless networks around me that are very vunerable without any encryption. So far the USB Netgear MA-101 seems to be working ok....I would not reccomend to anyone to go without encryption though, cause there is to much malacious stuff that can happen over your DSL or Cable Broadband connection that will cause alot of heat to be put on yourself.

My wife's pc running XP home cannot connect to the internet. Device manager says code 10, this device cannot start referring to her wireless adaptor. I looked on the back of her tower and a green light is flashing beside the word power next to her antenna.

The connection strength yesterday was very weak. I hard wired her to the high speed but could not get the networking right.....didn't seem to recognize it. It was like the wireless adaptor was messing things up. Does this mean the wireless card is shot? Card's Driver shows from 2005.

A:code 10...wireless adaptor will not start

Sounds like something has gone wrong with the driver. Remove all of the software associated with the Wifi card. Reboot the PC.

Then reinstall the software, you mention that if you have a driver from 2005. Maybe go to the manufacturers website and download the latest driver. If this doesnt work then maybe there is an issue with the hardware. But I think reinstalling the driver should sort out the issue.

I really want to thank to who ever can solve this situation for me. I recently bought myself a Belkin's wireless adaptor usb. First time using a wireless router. Thanks to the router; I'm able to to get connected with my ps3, my other computer's and other web design contraptions.

When I bought the USB Adaptor for my PC, it worked fine for a couple of weeks. Until Monday afternoon, when my internet began to respond slowly and until it got cut off ( disconnected, I presume). Later on yesterday, I had to uninstall it and resintall it. The same process as my Nintendo Wifi usb ( whenever I shutdown the computer, then turned it back on; I wouldn't get connectivity.) When I finished reinstalling it, I got my internet back working.

Today, the samething happened again. During the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I was unable to pick up the connection. It some how got connected to my wireless network, but it wouldn't feed the internet.

I notice also, whenever I'd install it again. The wireless USB becomes " Belkin wireless adaptor USB 4" then after the next reinstallation process, number 5 and 6. Not sure if that's disrupting anything.

The belkin usb Model is F6D4050 V1

hope that helps

I can't get online that's the problem.

A:Wireless Adaptor in laptop not working

its possible theres an option to disable in the bios

BUT Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly to make sure it is not loose.
Then remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

I have a Dell laptop with WIn XP home edition. I then connected the laptop adaptor and did the installation as per the instructions. Using a relatively new Dell Desktop running windows 7 professional (diagnostics below)
Netgear wireless USB adaptor WNA3100

Issue: keeps disconnecting from Internet - says I am connected to the router but no ipv4 or ipv6 connectivity. If I remove the USB and plug it back in, I get connectivity for a bit and then it cuts out again. I downloaded the latest software from netgear's website but it did not help. Other computers in my office are connected via wireless adapters and are having no issues.
The router I am connecting to is 'TBNYC' in the list at the bottom.

Please help!

A:Wireless USB Adaptor Continually Disconnecting

Here's the deal, right now I have a D-link 614 wireless router in my bedroom hooked to my cable modem. I have a syntax USB adaptor in my living room PC, and a D-link 800 repeater/adaptor sitting on top my livingroom entertainment center. There's also a DWL-520+ adaptor in my kid's PC on the opposite side of the house from the router. The wireless signal wouldn't reach the kids room without the repeater. The problem I'm having is that sometimes the syntax adaptor drops it's connection for a second or two. Not a big deal, but it makes our multiplayer games crash when it does. If I use the repeater as an adaptor for the livingroom PC instead of the syntax adaptor will the kids room still be able to connect? The repeater/adaptor would move a total of about 5 feet. The reason I'm asking is that there's a switch on the repeater to switch it from repeater mode to adaptor mode.

Sorry so long a question. I figured I'd ask before opening up the HTPC case. There's so many cables to it, it's kinda a pain to pull out of it's place to work on it. Thanks.

I'm having problems with my USB Wireless adaptor. I've had it since October when I had surgery and my dad had set up my old Dell (with WIN98 on it, but I'm not sure if its WIN98SE or just WIN98).

The one problem is that even though its in my startup items, it doesn't load on the little startup items bar on the same bar that was the quicklinks.

The last time I had it working was around the 14/15th through the evening of the 17th. I probably sohuldn't have closed the wireless icon on the day I had gotten it working cause it hadn't worked in about 3 months.
And when I try to click the icon on the desktop where my other program icons are, it refuses to load up. I've tried installing and reinstalling the software so many times. I;ve tried reinstalling the hardware (the adaptor), etc. I even tried a free trial of AceUtilities and deleted the entries that were invalid that were linked to the adaptor.
So, does anyone have a solution? I don't really want to have to call DLINK Tech support, especially if they keep me on hold or something (I read another person's trouble thread and they said they were on hold for 45 minutes - I can't afford to do that unless I have several hours free.)

My DLINK DWL-G122 wireless network adapter is working fine. However, the adapter is activated only AFTER you logon to the machine. So the machine is without an IP address until the logon process is completed, after which the card is activated and it gets an IP via DHCP.

Is there a way to change this behaviour of Windows 2000 and XP so that the adapter is activated BEFORE the logon prompt is displayed?

I'm tired of talking to tech support when I usually get better help here. So anyway...
I have this qwest 2wire usb wireless adaptor. And supposedly its just supposed to be just some sort of plug and play type of thing. Every tech I've talked to said that my computer should automatically see that there's an added peice of hardware(which it does). But there's no software for it, my computer is supposed to just detect and promt me for secure log in to Wi-Fi protected access. But all it does is detect the hardware, and then when I go to device manager its under that yellow question mark on Other devices/USB device.

Am I missing a driver for my USB ports? I'm just lost, and qwest tech support doesn't help, just tells me to see my pc manufacturer if its not detecting it, which I don't think is really necessary. Any help would be great.

I'll post my specs just in case it will help.

I currently have a Belkin Wireless N router and have been using the standard wireless card in my laptop to connect to it which only supports wireless G, so I just purchased a Belkin N+ wireless adaptor and set it up but it only shows 54mbps when wireless N should be 300mbps? Are wireless N and N+ two different things? Ive tried setting my router to wireless N only and the adapter picks up the router, but refuses to connect to it. Any ideas on how to get it to connect in wireless N to my router?

Hi Guys,

Having a problem with by broadband speeds. I'm using a USB wireless adaptor as my on board adaptor stopped working a while ago, Have had no issues since and getting speeds between 40-50mbps.

Last week the speed plummeted to around 3-4mbps for no real reason. I bought a new USB adaptor and still the same. I did briefly turn the on-board adaptor back on and the speeds went back up so I know it's not the broadband itself.

Any suggestions?

Kind Regards

hi, im new and from my experience on forums i tried to search if my question was previously answered but i couldnt find anyhting.

Here it goes, i cant repair my wireless connection. I have no problem connecting or picking wireless networks and connecting to them but i cant repair my connection. If i try it says windows could not finish repairing the problem becasue the following action cannot be completed: Disabling the wireless network adapter Make sure your network adapter is properly installed.

What i dont get is that i can push the button on the laptop and turn the connection off and push it to turn it on and the computer sometimes automatically finds available networks and connects to them...

My other problem is that if i try to mess with the firewall, i get the message due to and unidentified problem windows cannot display windows firewall settings..

i have windows xp home with service pack 2 in a averatec 3200 series laptop with amd mobile sempron. I really dont know much as far as networking and stuff like this goes any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks C.

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read here.

My neighbor has an XP operating desktop HP machine. I can't tell you much more about it because it is not mine. He lives directly across the street. I do most of his technical maintenance on his machine, to a point, I'm not a geek, a wannabe possibly but only slightly above the average user. I have been using pc's since 1988. He uses Verizon slow DSL and not only that his pc has been taking up to 4 minutes to boot up. So the other day I thought I'm taking this Linksys USB Wireless adapter over there and using it to access my drive and have the greater speed and access to my files on my computer. BTW, I wanted to use the adapter because his pc has no wireless. And the purpose of my trip across the street was to help this issue with taking up to 4 minutes to boot up.

Now this Linksys adapter was given to me awhile back. I came home, plugged it into my older XP machine and it recognized it, installed it I suppose, do not remember, but it went right on and accepted and used it.

When I plugged it into his it did not work on his XP. It searched the Windows directory for the driver but did not find it. So I went to the internet and found the driver. Downloaded it but it would not install properly. I downloaded it from another site under another file name, it would not install it properly. I am perplexed as it was so easy to use with my XP machines.

Any suggestions why? What to do now? What if I copied the d... Read more

Hey there,

Trying to install a Belkin Wireless or Retail Plus+ N USB Adapter, which the microsoft page says is compatible with Windows 7 (for the Belkin) and receiving an error basically saying the driver is not compatible with this operating system.

This is a brand new computer that came with Windows 7 installed and has 0 internet access right now....what can you suggest?

Also, I do have a wired internet access point in my house I can move it to, if there is something I need to download I can probably do this.

It's been hours, and I feel like I may have to take the whole thing back.

I would prefer to use the Retail Plus+ USB adapter for this system if given the choice, since the Belkin is in use on another computer in the house, but I'll take whatever is out there.

Belkin : Support

Try there, download to a usb and transfer the files over and install.

IMO i would bring the pc online, much quicker.

Thats for drivers,as for it not being compatable im no expert..que expert

Hi, I have recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 64bit. The problem I have is that I can no longer connect to the internet via my wireless USB adaptor which worked fine with windows 7. I tried reinstalling the driver and although it is in programmes and features, it does not appear in the device manager. I have read various threads saying that there is a problem with the Realtek driver and Windows 10, and to switch to Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. But I cannot do this as Realtek is not listed in the Device Manager.

Does anyone have a solution.

This just started in that I get a Code 43 error on my adaptor. It will work if I uninstall the device or unplug and then reinstall. When I shut down or sleep and then restart it does it again. I know the code states about updating the driver, but the most up to date driver is from 2005.

Should I just get a new one?

So I can't find anything that really answers my question, maybe I'm googling the wrong thing.

I have a network from Comcast so the actual modem can't change because there is only one room in the house that has coax and telephone plugs. I have a second building on my property that i need to send wireless signal to, but from the room the modem it is in, there is no signal because of wireless-N dropping off so quickly. From everything I have read and have already tried, the powerline adapters seems like the most viable option (I have already tried repeaters).

My question is can a powerline adapter output directly to a wireless router?

all of what I'm reading seems to say it will plug directly into a computer fine (duh) but is this possible?

Thanks everyone in advance,
Evan Krambuhl

PS. If you need anymore information just ask. If it helps, this is a network that has to file share for backups and be used by OS X and Windows.

Installed windows 8 on blank HD. Version was enterprise. Went through installation process, then discover that the wireless adaptor (laptop, built in) wasn't being recognized FULL stop by windows. I tried a few things. In the device manager, the wireless adaptor is not shown. However, after updating the device list, it shows one unknown device. I looked through the preloaded drivers for wireless devices, but all of them were for USB ethernet/wireless adaptors, which as I recall from my previous installation of windows was not the type of driver that the device was using. I've also gone through the automates troubleshooting, etc, but nowhere is it even acknowledged that the device is even there. Now, my initial thinking is that it is indeed something to do with the drivers, but I'm not sure if I can find the needed ones. I'll upload more detailed information about my setup if it would be useful.

Go to your metro screen and start typing "ethernet' without the quotes, click on Ethernet and there seems to be some help there. I'm running 8.1, so I'm not sure exactly what you'll see, but you should have a choice between programs, services, apps, etc. Choose appropriately and you may find what you need.

BTW, it will be helpful to those who know a whole lot more about this than I do to give them your full system specs instead of just "OS Windows 8". You should complete the form: Computer brand name, ma... Read more
