Wireless connection not connecting to Router (Netgear)

Q: Wireless connection not connecting to Router (Netgear)

Greetings, My Laptop will not connect to my Netgear Router anymore today. It was working earlier (that's what mum said), and then it wouldn't connect anymore. All I get is the 6 bars that is grey with a yellow sun over it and under the Network Connections it say's its "Attempting to authenticate". I don't know what happen however last night the power went out for a couple of seconds so I don't know if that played a part or not but you can't rule out anything yet. Oh and I did a hard reset on the router and modem. I even went as far as to try advice I found on google but nothing worked. I tried deleting/uninstalling the wireless card under device manager and waited for it to restart but that didn't work. I even tried a system restore and that too didn't work. I also did the whole ipconfig /release, /renew, /flushdns and nothing worked. Before some people ask this question I will answer it: I did connect ethernet cable and it did work just fine. So I'm thinking its more of the wireless card that is messing up or something like that because I can connect using the Ethernet port. I am at a lost of what I can do now. Thanks for the help to all those who reply.

A: Wireless connection not connecting to Router (Netgear)

I did another test in which I used a USB Wireless adapter (54Mbps), and It didn't want to connect. So I'm now pretty sure its a Router problem but I don't see how that could be because I did a hard reset and I did backup recovery before I did a reset so I can restore it.

Here is an image from Xiirus Wi-Fi Inspector. Please note I did change the Channel to 8 after I noticed that someone else was also on that channel.

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together
From a John Will Post

http://library.techguy.org/wiki/Connecting_two_SOHO_broadband_routers_together

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

hey guys.... just wondering if anyone can help me.
I've been trying to get my wNetgear wireless router (DG834g v2) to hook up to (RealtekRTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC) cable modem.
Problem is...
-i have no setup cd
-when i try using the setup wizard through 192.168.0.1 it won't recognise the connection and says to check the dsl cable.
I've tried rebooting both routers many times and restarting the computor.
Also tried reconfiguring manually by going through the step by step instructions on the right of setup page.
Still no go.
Sometimes it will connect when it's plugged straight into comp others i have to switch it back to normal cable router to get internet.
I can't help but think if i had the set up disc i would be ok??
If anyone has a magic remedy i'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks for reading guys!

I have a setup with two Comcast modems, to acommodate both Internet and telephone service. The Comcast cable goes into a signal splitter. Then one cable goes into a larger modem (Arris Model TM502G), which has 8 lights (power/ds/us/online/link/telephone 1/telephone 2/battery). There is an available, currently-unused ethernet connection on the back. The other cable line goes to a smaller modem (Cisco DPC3000) which has 5 lights (a blinking link/online/us/de/power). An ethernet connection in the back goes to my computer, providing Internet service.

I purchased a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Gigayte Router (WNDR 3700). Can anyone explain to me how I can hook it up with this setup?

Thanks.

A:Connecting Netgear wireless router to dual comcast modems

The ethernet cable from the Cisco DPC3000 (which is currently going to your PC), connect from the Cisco into the WAN port of the Router. You then connect a cable from the Router/switch (ie: LAN port) to your PC.

I have a Netgear WGR614 v6 Wireless Router. I recently tried to update the firmware to Version 2.0.19_1.0.19 (http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103100.asp). At that website it gives step by step directions on how to download and load the firmware update.
1. I opened a Web browser.
2. Accessed the router (http://192.168.1.1)
3. Logged in the router (User Name = admin and Password = password
4. Wrote down all settings that you entered when previously configuring. (Usually this includes information such as ISP configuration and wireless security settings.)
5. Downloaded the file from the North America.
6. In the web browser of http://192.168.1.1 > Under Maintenance > click Router Upgrade.
7. Clicked Browse and locate the firmware upgrade file and selected the file I just downloaded.
8. Clicked Upload.
9. Waited for the router to reboot.
10. Under Maintenance, click Settings Backup, then click Erase.

Then this is where I started to have problems, the remaining steps I need to follow are:
11. Wait one minute for the router to reboot.
12. Manually enter the configuration information you wrote down in Step 4. Use the Smartwizard, or manually configure as shown in the box below.
If the router has problems, repeat the whole procedure, Steps 1-12.

The problem I am experiencing is after step #10, I am not sure what to do. I waited one minute and nothing happened. Then I am not sure where to enter the configuration information. I tried going to the original site... Read more

(Sorry, I just edited this because I realized the title said Wireless Router, it's actually a gateway. Can't fix it.)

I have a Netgear CGD24G Wireless Gateway and a Gateway MA8 laptop with after-market Windows 7 (Vista got a virus, went ahead and upgraded.)

Now, when I download 100 MB files on my Xbox 360 (Which is wired to the modem) it will be downloaded in a couple minutes, or less. The other computers in my house (There are plenty, and even more that come and go.) get a blazing internet connection, and most of them are wireless. Now this computer, which had an extremely quick connection as well all of a sudden dropped off, while the rest of the computers remain fast.

I've gone to Speedtest.net before and after this occurred and my speed before was around 12 mb/s, and one time around 4 AM was even upward of 25 mb/s, all of these tests were performed multiple times on different server locations.

I JUST did the speedtest, and it came back with .4 mb/s, and the UL speed was 2.0. I honestly can't remember what I averaged with it prior to the problem, but it was definitely higher as well.

This started happening a little less than a week ago, and I've downloaded/changed nothing major with the computer, and have mainly used it for light browsing, and an occasional download.

Also, this is mainly just a hobby fix. I have a long enough cable to wire the computer straight to the gateway, so I really don't want to buy new hardware or anything of t... Read more

I have a NetGear FWG114P Router with a desktop PC, an IOMEGA backup drive, and printer all pugged directly into the router. I also have a Dell laptop with XP SP2 and a NetGear wireless G card. The router drops the connection to the laptop very frequently. The connection to the desktop and the printer have no issues and the connection going from the laptop to the router is fine. The only way to restore the connection is to re-boot the laptop or the router. I have tried everything to eliminate the problem as it has lasted for several years. Upgrading the firmware on the router, buying a new 5.8Ghz phone, and installing a more powerful antenna to boost the signal, have not made a difference. The signal strength is consistantly strong, so I know that is not the issue. Recently I tried something that did work but I do not understand why. I keep a browser session open to maintain a connection from the laptop to the Router - specifically when I boot up the laptop I login to the router and keep it logged in the entire time I am on the laptop. That way my connection to the router does not drop. I would much rather find the real cause of this problem. Any ideas?

A:NETGEAR Router drops wireless connection

It seems that no one ever responded to your post. However, I can vouch for exactly your experience. I bought my FWG114P after my previous FM114P failed suddenly after about 3 years. I wasn't happy about it failing but it was reliable as long as it ran. But the FWG114P is anything but reliable. I'm on my first replacement now and it drops the wireless signal randomly and for random periods of time just like the first one did (it does seem to come back of its own accord most of the time, without a computer or router reboot). I have given up trying to get Netgear to admit that there is some fundamental problem with the wireless function of this device, basically because I don't want to hear them tell me one more time that it must be interference (obviously interference that just happened to start when I bought the first FWG114P!). Even pointing them to various forums where people are complaining about exactly this problem doesn't seem to make any difference! I haven't bothered getting a third machine because I know it will have the same problem. Yes, it's disappointing and frustrating.

recently joined Virgin Media with the complete package. The router they gave me is a Netgear VMDG480 Router with wireless connection. However, one of the laptops will not connect to the Internet. It fails to pick up the DNS even though the laptop can see the router and makes a connection. However, on making a connection it does not pick up a DNS.

This is odd because when connected wired it works a treat.

Here is the result from running ipconfig on the wireless adapter:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix: [Blank]
Nothing for DCHP
IPv4 Address: 192.168.0.6
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Nothing for DCHP Server
Nothing for DNS Servers

This particular laptop runs Vista, and the other laptop that does work wirelessly uses XP Professional.

Does anyone have the answer to this problem?

Thanks

Hi,

I bought a NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824 but I don't get internet connect from it. I have a comast modem it's a RCA by THOMSON witch I can connect to the internet with a ethernet cable.

A:NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824 No Internet Connection.

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

I currently own a Netgear DG834PN and a Huawei SmartAX MT882. I use the Huawei modem with an ethernet link to my PC to access the internet with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

I want to supply this internet connection to my computer downstairs (running Windows XP Home Edition SP2) via wireless. I already own a wireless USB adapter for the computer downstairs.

I have previously used the Netgear modem/router to access the internet on my Vista computer and wirelessly on my XP computer. However, I found that my Netgear ADSL connection to the internet is not very fast (by the ethernet link.)

My question is: how can I setup the Huawei modem to the Netgear modem/router so that the Huawei draws the internet directly from the ADSL line and supplies it to the Netgear which, in turn, supplies the internet wirelessy downstairs? I have heard of a bridge mode available of Vista, but I'm not sure whether to take advantage of it.

Thanks for your time

I bought a new E-System Notebook which runs on Windows Vista. My broadband provider is Orange via a Thomson SpeedTouch 330 USB modem. I have also bought a Netgear WGT624v3 Wireless Router but am having problems connecting it to Orange. The instructions all say 'before you start, open your Broadband connection' but, as I have to unplug the cable from the back of my modem (as it has a USB connection) to connect to the router (it has an inbuilt modem), this seems to interrupt the connection. I follow all the instructions - connect the ethernet cable to my notebook, turn on the router and then try to establish the connection. As I use a user name and password for my broadband connection, I go into http://routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm and enter my user name and password. I set it up to obtain the IP and DNS addresses automatically but to no avail. I can’t establish a connection. Can anyone help please and tell me where I'm going wrong? Ps My notebook is wi-fi enabled and it ‘sees’ the router but tells me there is no connection.

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

So here is my case:

SETUP:

Verizon's Westell 6100:
Modem/Router, provides 1 incoming address (provided by VZ) and provides 1 internal address (192.168.1.1).

Netgear Wireless Router WGT624 v4:
Wireless Router, accepts 192.168.1.1 and provides 10.0.0.X wired and wirelessly.

Problem:
Although Verizon's Router indicates that it is on Bridge mode, the damn thing isnt. I thought the main concept of bridging was to become practically invisible and automatically reroute all traffic to the next device, which is what I want.
I want to ultimately use the Netgear device to set all my rules and settings, instead, I have to do it on both.
For instance, Xbox Live is not working 100% properly. I can only play video games without being able to join specific games, or perform any in-game video/voice chat.

I have tried NATing the device. No luck.
I have also tried setting the Netgear device as a Wireless Base Station. Either way, I just would like to have my network ignore 1 device, and have the second one invisibly reroute all the access.

Is that possible? Could you please help?

Thanks to all!

A:Netgear Wireless Router and Westell Modem + Router = Routed Bridge failure

Well, since the "modem" is supplying a private IP address, it's obvious that it's not in bridge mode, that can only happen with a NAT layer, aka a router.

Try this solution to configure it for bridge mode, direct from Verizon: http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/highspeed/networking/setup/questionsthree/123756.htm

I really have no background in network connecting so a little help is necessary. Setup is a destop to a modem to a router to a ps3. The ps3 gets a signal no problem without even installing the setup disc, its just that im having trouble connecting the internet to the router itself. When is comes to Subnet and Ip and Gateway im lost. Considering when i look at the connections i have Verizon online, Westell Wirespeed Dual Connect Modem and NVIDIA nFORCE MPC Networking Controller, don't have any clue which to connect to. Any walkthrough or help would be greatly appreciated.

As of last friday, I had a xbox 360 that worked fine with this router. But, my Xbox crashed, so I bought a used one. When I plug it in to my router with an ethernet cable, the light shows on the port for a little while then resets. This creates a disruption, and the xbox wont connect. It fails the very first network test. I tried different cables, that didnt work. However, if i plug the same ethernet cord into my laptop from the same port on the router, the laptop still gets internet and the connection does not drop.
Also, I plugged the xbox directly into the modem and THIS worked. So, its not a faulty ethernet port on the xbox. I tried port forwarding the ports that are recommended to open on the router and i tried resetting the router and modem multiple times.
Nothing changed on the router between xboxes, and I know I have at least covered all the basics. A friend told me I may be able to try turning off Mac Address Filtering, but I dont know how to do this on my NetGear wgr614 v5 router.
Anybody have any ideas whats going on? The weirdest part is how it will connect, and the light is lit up on the port the xbox is plugged into, but then when i run a test the lighht goes out and the test fails. Its like the router is kicking the xbox off or keeps resetting that connection.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I am letting those who are having trouble connecting to Netgear n600 Routers Dual Band Gigabit Router, with their Vizio Smart TV with built in Wi Fi.

I went through a very exasperating day today, trying to resolve this problem.

It took these tech's about 3 hours to resolve my problem. Be prepared to be patient and have them repeat questions over and over, you will not be able to tell what they are saying, they speak fast, do not listen when you tell them to slow down. It was a session of repeating each question and what I needed to to at least 2 or 3 times. My experience was one very unsatisfactory. The only thing is it does work now.

You can get it done by calling support for Netgear, they connect to customer service in India which is a third party company with a completely different name. I paid $39.99 to give them remote access to my PC to be able to connect. It was so difficult to understand what they are explaining with very thick accents from India. The price I had was because my Router was within a 90 warranty period for the software itself, but not any tv support options. They did a remote scan of my system and did in fact connect the Vizio. I could not tell what they were doing to get it going. I would of let anyone know if I knew how they did it. They did mention doing a firmware update and at one point wanted me to connect my laptop directly to the router. I was unable to do this because my battery is missing and using ac power only, so to unplug and p... Read more

After a series of computer and network failures, mostly due to electrical storms and electrical contractors, I decided to upgrade my old Netgear router to a new Netgear Wireless-N router.

I have used Network Magic to manage my networked computers and when I decided to upgrade NM, the new version didn't support my old router. So, it seemed like an all over upgrade/update was in order.

What should have been a simple process-- turn everything off, disconnect the old router, replace it with the new router, and go through the set up process (cable modem on, then router on, etc.) has turned into a mystery.

I used the Netgear startup wizard, followed step by step (more than once) and each time I got to the last part of the process, it stalled saying "No Router Found."
It was only after several unsuccessful attempts, that I decided to open my control panel and check things out. Network Connections showed my status as "connected," so I opened my browser and found that I am able to connect to the internet.

What I have not been able to do is to set up my network, network security, etc. I tried to initiate Network Magic for set up, with the same results-- "no router found."

Anyone know what I have going on here? Am I only connected through the LAN connection, perhaps?

To make matters further complicated, my phone service is Vonage, VOIP, and the Vonage device has failed, so I'm waiting for the new one to arrive...can... Read more

I have just bought the Netgear WGPS606 Wireless print server. The wizard tells me to plug the server into my PC using an ethernet? cable.

However, I do not have one of these cables but already have a Netgear WG511 card which I use to connect to my WG834G ADSL router. I am sure I set up my ADSL router wirelessly.

Is there any way to connect and set up my print server without a cable or will I need to have my PC physically connected to it to work?

Thanks for any help.

Hello friends!

I'm having a bit of trouble tonight trying to connect to my wireless router. Here are the specifics-

Router: Linksys Wireless B
OS: Windows 7
Wireless Adapter: Netgear Wireless G

I used the Netgear installation disc and ran the setup wizard. I was able to connect easily initially, and firefox opened to my google homepage. I tried a simple google search and it went offline. The taskbar icon shows "connections available" and when opened and prompted to connect to the found network, it was "unable to connect". I opened the Netgear set up wizard and it just keeps scanning the channels and never connects. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

I searched and saw similar topics, but none that have answered my problem Her computer has always worked wirelessly in the past until I bought this netgear Wireless-N 300 router, WNR2000v2. Hi there,

I am not very smart with setting up internet connection (especially with Vista) and could really do with some help from the experts.

I have recently set up a wireless network in my house using a Netgear router (ISP = Virgin). I set the network up on my PC (Windows XP) and everything seems to work fine. I can access the internet from my PC and from the WIFI on my mobile / cell phone.

Problem is... trying to connect my Acer laptop using vista to the internet.

In the wireless network options, it shows that the laptop is 'connected' to the network, but when i open IE7, an error page appears and the internet doesn't appear.

After carrying out a bit of research on the 'net, its seems that this is a fairly common problem but the answer i have seen are not very clear (especially for a windows Vista beginner)

If someone could help it would truly be much appreciated!!

Ideally, i need some step-by-step information since as i started above, this isn't my strongest of areas plus i don't know Vista very well.

Once again, many thanks if you can help and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Stuart

Hello,

Using a Webstar Cable Modem, & Netgear Wireless Router on Windows XP.

Connecting an Ethernet cable to the router worked ok, had access to the Internet with no problems.

Trying to run wireless was the problem. No wireless networks found.

The Tick light was off on the router, i power cycled the equipment, i reset the router, i applied the wireless settings manually, but still no wireless networks were found. It is a laptop so i checked to see if it had a wireless switch, which it did and is turned on, but still no networks could be found & this "Tick" light was still off. The router didn't seem to be able to broadcast a signal?

Is the Tick light important, i'm not to familiar with the Netgears light sequence, must this be on for a signal to be broadcast, or does it come on when there is an active wireless connection?

Any other ideas of how i would get this online?

Thank you,

C.Skyco

Can anyone help? It does seem to be a fairly widespread problem so i'm hoping someone else has had the same problem.

Hi guys,

I bought a brand-new Netgear wireless modem router recently. I encountered some problems when I used it.

1. When I plug in the power of modem router, I notice the light of wireless is off. I think it should be light. Is it something wrong with the router?

2. My laptop obtains the IP & DSN automatically (which means DHCP), but I can't log in 192.168.0.1 which is default address. OK, after that, I change my laptop ip address to static ip address, say 192.168.0.10, then I can log in 192.168.0.1.

Dose anybody know the problems? Any help would welcome.

When I first tried I got Error 651, by fixing up the drivers with a Vista one I got past that but now I'm getting Error 797, I'm stuck here, I have no idea what to do. Any help?

A:Can I use a Netgear router for a wired connection?

Try to access the routers setting page over the wireless, usually for netgear its 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1, and log in using your user and password given to you. Some routers (especically Netgear) will disable ethernet ports unless you specify otherwise for whatever reason. Ususally there is a setting in the router control panel to enable them. Wish you luck

O/S windows vista. I am trying to connect to the wireless internet through the Netgear router my roommates have at my new place. All of their devices work using the passphrase, but when I try to connect, in my network and sharing center it says that it is connected to their network (which shows up as unidentified) but not connected to the internet. I have tried resetting the router, as well as unplugging it and plugging it back in. When I called Netgear, they said they could fix it, but that I would have to enroll in their $150 per year tech support plan. Any free fixes?

Then:

I have a Paradyne DSL modem connected to a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. This set-up has been working great for over a year.

A couple of weeks ago, my DSL (or so I thought) quit working while I was using it. No big deal, I just let it be, thinking it would be up the next day. Next day, same thing, so I started the normal troubleshooting. Everything looked like it should, so I connected directly to the DSL modem and everything worked fine. I decided my Netgear had bit the dust, even though everything looked good. I tried another router and had the same results, so I purchased a new Netgear because I wasn't sure of the configurations for the second router. Same thing.

In order to connect the modem directly to the computer, I have to enter the IP, Gateway and DNS numbers in my PC, so I know my numbers are still valid. Any ideas as to why my DSL will no longer work through a router? I can access the routers internal configuration from my pc, so I know the connection between those two are good. When I set the Netgear back to factory defaults, it was able to detect what type of connection I have, so I assume the connection between the modem and the Netgear is good. I tried disabling my firewall temporarily. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I know several people who have the exact set-up at their homes and are working fine.

The troubleshooting was performed on my wired Windows XP Home desktop; however, I also tried wireless with my Windows XP Professional laptop.

I recently had to reset my wireless router (NetGear WNR2000v4), and when everything came back up it had no wireless connectivity. The light on the router goes on, but i can't even see the network as in range on my phone. The router login page has a toggle for wireless radio on/off, it's set to off but when i check it back on and apply it reverts back to off, and the LED on the router also turns off.

I've also got notifications of a firmware upgrade available, but when i try to download/apply it i get a "firmware incorrect" error.

After going through all the usual steps (shutdown of computer, phone, power cycle and factory restore on the router), i found a boatload of threads out there from folks having the exact same symptoms, and eventually a supposed fix for the issue here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27207

After downloading the fix tool and following the instructions, nothing seemed to happen. Where the fix says there should be files transferred in tfptd32, there was nothing there, and nothing changed about the way it's all acting. So now i guess i'm in need of a fix for the fix? I'm not altogether certain what this utility is or does to know how i might be able to make it work if it doesn't want to.

At this point i'm not sure if it's just broken and i need a new one, or if there's anything i can do to fix the fix, or if there's another solution out there. Any ideas?

I have had this router for some time - worked fine with Xp64 - now I've upgraded to Vista 64 Home, it will occasionally lock up.

By that I mean that I can sometimes still see my local network, but I lose internect connectivity. I seems to be at random. But the impression I get is that it is something on the wireless network that is causing it as it seems to be worse if I connect my works laptop to the internet via a wireless VPN connection.

I also have a WB NAS drive connected (Soon to be ditched due to problems with it corrupting files and being extremely slow to extract data) and a Wii (Wireless).

Or can any recommend a ADSL wireless router that works well with Vista? (I have to run the PC and NAS drive with static IP addresses due to the time it takes for the network to connect if I use DHCP)

Thanks

I use cabled internet connection. I have only one internet cable. I plug in to my laptop, write the MAC address of the internet, open the log-in page of the internet service, write down the username and password and then I surf the internet. The question is how can I set up my wireless router?

I tried it but there was no internet access. I know the password of my wireless router's password but when it connects it says 'No Internet Access'. So I went to my laptop's wireless port advanced settings and wrote down the MAC address in the Network Address tab. Still no connection.

So I am asking, what can I do in such situation like this? Do I need a modem to do this or the MAC address/log-in page is causing problem. I need answers ASAP, thank you.

I have recently installed a netgear WGR614v6 and it works perfectly well wired but wireless will not work. I have gone through the wireless settings and all look ok. On my laptop the SSID and WEP key both match exactly.

I have searched the web and other people who have had this problem have used netgear software to configure their wireless cards and the problem was solved however I have a work laptop and a PS3 both of which can't be configured. Is there anything I can do on the router to get it to work.

On the laptop I can see the router but when I try to connect I always get "Failed to Associate" message.

Hello. I just bought a used Netgear wireless router. The product code is MR814v1. I plugged the power into it then an ethernet cable from the cable modem to the router. The power button is on and the internet light stays on for 5 seconds then blinks and turns off then the wireless light comes on. I am not sure what is wrong with it. I have tried different combinations of plugging in the wires but to no avail. I really need to get this working for my girlfriend. First I was at my house using it and the internet worked for about 10 minutes then just stopped. I have no clue what the deal is. I need some help.

A:Netgear Wireless Router Not Working

First step, reset the router to factory defaults. With power on the router, hold the reset button down for 15 seconds or more. See how it acts after that.

Of course, buying used equipment is sometimes a crapshoot, you may have simply purchased a defective router.

Hello everyone, I registered just to ask this question. Now, maybe I'm stupid, but I can't seem to figure out what the problem is with my new Router. The router itself is a NetGear WNR1000. My router is hooked up to both my Modem and my computer, as well as a chord to my Xbox that I rarely use. I use its Wireless abilities for my wife's laptop. Now, I put in the CD and went through all that set-up and such and it seemed to be okay, but my internet has been bad ever since I hooked this thing up.

My Ethernet and Internet lights on the Modem are near-constantly blinking, but the other two are fine. Sometimes my internet works okay, if very slowly, but sometimes a page won't show up and says "Webpage not Available" but if I refresh a couple of times it always comes up eventually. The laptop has this same type of half-internet. When I play WoW sometimes it lags horribly and sometimes it works perfectly fine. This has been going on for a few weeks since I put the thing in and I'm tired of it, so I came to you guys to see if y'all could figure it out.

When I go to CMD and type IPCONFIG/ALL it claims my IP Address is 10.0.0.2 but What Is My Ip the website claims its actually something else.

I just got a NetGear Range Max Wireless G Router off ebay and am trying to install. Aside from the router all I have is the adapter and some instructions to reset the username and password. How do I set it up? I already looked up the default username and password. Now I need to know what to do next. I am using my other Router from Cox at the moment so I can look this up. I tried plugging in the phone ethernet cable and the adapter cable to computer and router. Then I went to use internet and there was an error message saying something like cannot display page. I typed in website http://www.routerlogin.com and I kept getting error message. How can I reset the previous user name and password if I can't get internet connection? Everything turns on correctly including the router. Maybe there is a simple step that I have forgotten. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi

I've got a netgear router which was enabling me to use my laptop on the internet perfectly - no problems. I had noticed that my wireless network connection was listed as non secured and this was a problem I was going to rectify. However having managed to log on to the internet and get a wireless connection fine this morning, and hour later I have returned to find that it is now listing my wireless connection as secured and asking for a network key for us to gain access.

I have never inputted a network key and therefore don't have the foggiest what to put in.

I'm thinking maybe someone has managed to use our wireless connection from outside of our home, then changed the network key? Is this possible? What can I do?

Any help gratefuly recevied.

yes it is possible
connect to the router via a cable connection
logonto the router
and change the key or remove

also change the default usename and password of the router

I have a user who installed a NetGear USB wireless adapter in a WinME desktop system to connect to a DLINK Wireless router.

The adapter is showing signal strength of 68% so I'm assuming it sees the router.

However, there is no connectivity to the net or to the other computers in the network. There is a WinXP desktop system cable connected to the router as well as 2 laptops which are both wireless connected.

I have ensured that WEP is disabled on the ME desktop as well as the firewall software. The adapter config gives two options for network connections, default and first available. I have tried both with no luck.

I've been told to make sure SSID Broadcast is enabled in the router.

Any other ideas?

Hi, Does anyone have familiarity with a Netgear DGN2000 wireless N ASDL2 + modem? Here's my minor frustration. If I turn on the router & let it do it's thing & connect to the internet, then turn on my Dell laptop 1520 with it's 1505 Draft 802.11N adapter, it connects wirelessly,no problem. But if the laptop goes into standby, connection is lost & no way can I get it back.Whenever I try using the utility of the laptop, it thinks the router is asking for WEP security which won't work because it's set for wpa-psk. I say no way, but I mean normally. If I plug in the ethernet cable, access the router, check the wireless settings (no changes made) & log out, it connects wirelessly & I can remove the ethernet cable no problem. It's like the router has a setting somewhere that needs to be set. Anyone with ideas or have a similar problem with this model router?
My desktop is connected via ethernet & I never have any difficulty with it.Both units are running Xp.

I have a Linksys WRT54G router and a W311 Netgear Wireless NIC. My PC is running Windows XP Service Pack 1.

In the bottom right hand corner the wireless card appears as being connected. It tells me the signal strength is excellent and the mbps. But I my internet connection will not work. I have tried pinging the router and I get "request timed out". Are these two devices compatiable? Is there anything else I can try to get them to communicate?

Thanks.

A:Linksys Router and Netgear Wireless NIC

first, make sure that you have a valid IP, an invalid IP would be 169.254.x.x. secondly, right click on the connection icon and "view available wireless networks" make sure you are connecting to your router. XP will sometimes automatically make a connection to the first unsecured wireless network it finds, make sure you are connecting to the right SSID. Next, do you have WEP enabled, if so, do you have the key set up on your computer.

Hey Gang,
I have a Netgear WNR1000v3 router. I have two computers connected with a wired connection and a couple of different devices that I connect with using the wireless connection. (Phone, Laptop, Ipad). The wired connections work fine but the wireless connection will only connect to the internet for a very short time (seconds) and then drop off. If I wait long enough I will pick it back up again. But again, for only a very short time. I have tried all the reboot procedures without any success. If I reboot the laptop, Ipad, etc., that seems to get me a connection, again for a very short time. I've checked the lights on the router and everything there says its OK. It seems to have to difference how far I am from the router. I've put the computer right next to it without success. Is the router going bad? It's only about 4 months old. Because I don't use the wireless feature often, I can't tell you if it ever worked or not. It seems to me like I was able to keep a connection when I first hooked it up but I'm not sure.

A:Netgear Router Dropping Internet Connection

do you have any other devices near the router that could interfier with connection? anything else giving off a wireless signal, such as a cordless phone etc?
sometimes things like this can interfere with wireless signals coming from routers.

Other than that, Might be an idea to try and change the channel or your wireless signal coming from the router.

Hey everyone,

This forum has always been helpful to me by answering the little stuff. Let's test it's limits

One of my clients has a Windstream Router that gives off the IP Address 192.168.3.X. So the default gateway for our network always has to be 192.168.3.1. All hardwired computers need to have a 192.168.3.X IP. I would like this to happen with all wireless devices. I know this is possible as I have gotten close to that goal, but not perfect. This is a mystery that I need solved by smarter networking minds. I have tried Windstream support (somewhat helpful) and Netgear Support (not helpful). Here's the story:

About six months ago my clients wanted to set up Wireless. So I put in the two netgear routers with IP Addresses of 192.168.1.X one downstairs and one upstairs and all was good. Until they started to use the wireless devices more. They needed scanning, access to shared folders on our the private network and remote services...

So for the past few months I have managed to get these netgear boxes working on the network. I did this by going into the settings and setting their default gateway to 192.168.3.1 and that they would give off the IP addresses instead of the Windstream box. This appeared to work fine for a few months. Until we gave them more bandwidth so that they could use their Remote Services faster. Now there are intermittent connectivity issues, Outlook disconnects, Remote Desktop constantly kicks users out, and internet is slow (not sure if t... Read more

A:Connection Issues with Netgear Router that have Private IP

If I understand what you're trying to do, set the wireless routers up on the main 191.168.3.x network, and run ethernet to the main router from their LAN, not WAN, ports. You may have to use a crossover type wire. It's the main router that will do all the DHCP work. The secondary routers are functioning as a wireless switch. Hello,

I have an 8 port "wired" router from Linksys that I have been using in conjunction to a wireless access point which had been plugged into one of the open ports on the wired router. Lately I have been having connection issues with the WAP so I decided it may be time to upgrade. Not thinking about it, I picked up a new Linksys E1000 wiress router (as opposed to a WAP) and, after a lengthy support call with Linksys, got that up and running.

So I have operability for both wired and wireless devices, however I have noticed a substantial slow down on my wired devices. I also just upped the plan with my ISP to increase my bandwidth which I see on the wired PCs but not on the wireless which seem less. Would a WAP be faster than a wireless router by nature?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

A:Slow wireless after connecting Linkys wirless router to Linksys wired router

Have you made sure you have the latest firmware for the wireless router? If you updated the firmware be sure to reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

What speeds do you get with a test such as speedtest.net with a connection to the wired router? With an ethernet connection to the wireless router? With a wireless connection?

I'm trying to use a router to establish a wireless connection with a machine running XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. I've connected successfully in the past with other machines (including now, as I write this), so it doesn't seem to be the router or the modem that's the problem. What's more, it's not XP, since there's another machine that can connect fine.

So, I'm stumped. I've contacted both my ISP and the manufacturer of the router, but not much help there.

Any thoughts? The machine sees the wireless connection fine, will attempt to connect and will actually say that it was successful in connection -- but there's no access to the internet and the status is actually limited or no connectivity.

Hello Guys,

I am having trouble with my wireless connection. It was working fine till a couple of days back and then started acting up. Let me explain the problem in detail.

System connects to the router. It shows full signal. After 10-15 seconds the wireless gets disconnected. After that the behaviour is quite varied. Sometimes the router itself is not recongnized. Sometimes the router is recognized but the system doesnt connect. If I force it to then it again says cannot connect to a hidden network. After a while maybe 4-5 mins later it recongnizes and tries connecting again sometimes it succeeds sometimes it doesnt.

My System Specifications are given below.

1. Samsung Ultrabook Series S - Model NP530U3C-A01UK
2. Processsor - Intel COre 5-3317U CPU @1.70 Ghz
3. Windows 7 Hope Premium - 64 Bit OS

Remedies I have tried and failed

A:Connecting to Wireless Router keeps connecting and disconnecting

I hate to say it, but since you have done everything I would have done, its possible the wireless adapter is broken/not functioning correctly. Is the product still under warranty? Especially since you stated that other devices connect just fine.
So its probably not the router.
The only other thing I can think of to try would be to buy another wireless router and test it with that.
If you have no problems, something is amiss.
You could also set your router back to factory defaults and try again.

I recently got qwest DSL and I configured my Wireless to work and accept my wireless MAC Address, but when I plug it into the WAN slot in the Linksys router it doesn't work. I went to linksys site and did their configuration which is changing the router LAN IP to 192.168.0.1, then power cycling, but this doesn't help. I cannot access the internet still. Both the modem/router and the router are operating DHCP, but if I disable the modem/router, I cannot access the wireless function, and if I disable the DHCP on my Linksys router, I cannot obtain an IP from the modem router via the linksys router.

This is frustrating lol.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So I go through the setup process (I am setting it up on the MacBook) and it works fine while connected via ethernet cable to the mac. However, when using it wireless, it shows up in the network preferences area with a green light that says connected, but web pages do not load. I have tried resetting the router, using a different ethernet cord, and unplugging it for 10+minutes. No luck. And since I'm pretty computer illiterate, I have no other ideas. Any suggestions?

thanks.

A friend gave me a Netgear 3300 wireless router. No start up disk, just the router. I get internet through Comcast. My main computer is an iMac. I want a couple of MacBooks, an iPad2, and a Dell laptop to connect to the wireless network. First, will the 3300 work with these devices? Second, what do I need to do to set up the router? Third, how do I connect the devices to the router? Thanks.

A:Setting up Netgear 3300 wireless router

Is this the exact model DGND3300
http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/wirelessrouters/high-performance/DGND3300.aspx
This is an ADSL2 Modem/router - so connects directly to a DSL/Telephone line
First, will the 3300 work with these devices? Click to expand...

should do - I will look the router up - but see no reason why not
Second, what do I need to do to set up the router? Click to expand...

You dont need a CD to setup a router
Need more information -Is the router connecting to a DSL connection - do you already have a modem - if so post the make and model of the modem
If you have a DSL connection - then you will need to log into the router and set up the connection details to connect to your ISP service
Who is the ISP
Third, how do I connect the devices to the router? Thanks.Click to expand...

By cable or wireless
The ipad will be wireless , the Mac - depends if they have a wireless adapter on them

I have a dell Latitude 800 with the built in Intel PRO Wirelss LAN 2100 card.

At work the card works fine with the linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router at the office. No problems at all.

I purchased the netgear MR814 wireless router for home use. I have 2 other non wireless PC's on my home network that work fine on the switch of the new netgear wireless router. I created a connection for the new wireless network and did a scan and found the netgear wireless network with excellent signal. I am able to surf the web, check email etc fine at great speeds for about 10 minutes. Then the connection will drop from "excellent" to "Out of Range". I scan for the network and see it, but the connection stays on out of range. If power down the wireless router, and power it back up, connectivity is immediately restored, for about 10 minutes, then I have to reset it again. Note that my proximity to the netgear wireless during this testing is never more than 10 feet away in the same room.

I use the default router settings origionally. Then changed the default channel, changed the security settings etc, all configurations exhibited the same behavior.

Seeing as how the linksys works perfect, Im assuming its a problem with the netgear. Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

I just got an HP Photosmart C6380 printer that's wireless for Christmas. I'm trying to set it up right now and I'm doing it wirelessly. However, the printer cannot detect my Netgear WPN824 router, which is only 4 feet away. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why! Does anyone know why that is and how I can get the printer to detect it?
The printer allows me to manually add my router in but whenever I do, it still tells me that the network can't be detected. Any ideas? Thanks.

And if it makes any difference, it's definitely my router because the printer can detect my neighbor's router. I believe he has a Linksys. I, on the other hand, have a Netgear.

I do have SSID Broadcast on, so I don't believe that is the problem.

A:HP Wireless Printer can't detect Netgear Router?

You need to do a lot more reading... about simple networks, and such... The info is available with the HP printer, and with your router... but hard to decipher.

Having issues with my NETGEAR WNR834B wireless router. I initially lost my modem (charter.net) - had to replace. After replacing and going through a few "support" personnel, they determined that something was wrong with my router.

At the time, the router power light was not ON at all. Disconnected completely and messed with the "reset" button on the back a few times: power on, reset button, power-off, reset button...blah, blah (many times).

Finally the power light is ON and green - can only assume that the reset process worked.

Now, I can seem to access the router to begin to reset everything from scratch - I've seen this same question in this forum as far back as 2007.

According to the instructions and all that I've found her and other places, I don't need an internet connection to connect to the router....well tried and tried, used different cables for input and output...but not luck.

The Power light is Green, the LAN light (cable from router to CPU) is Green, but wireless light is NOT ON.

Bought this router a couple of years ago from a friend...no disc or paperwork - got NetGear manual from website (used this for the initial connection...2 yrs ago).

Appreciate any tips or "next steps" ...all are welcome.

Thanks,
Joe

I've got an old Toshiba laptop I'm trying to resurect for backup use. Has a Linksys WPC11 v3 Wireless Network PC Card. I have a Netgear N300 Wireless Router WNR2000 v3. The router works fine with every other computer I've tried (all with built-in wireless) except the one with the Linksys PC card. I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled drivers downloaded from Linksys/Cisco. Also, running XP. This PC card with this computer used to work just fine with a Linksys router. Any ideas? If so, I'll need guidance getting in to router and/or PC card setup. Thanks.

A:Linksys wireless card not does not see Netgear router

Any of the other PC's using 802.11b (as that one is using)?

Typical rule of thumb is to disable all security settings on the router for testing to rule out security features as an issue.
