Hi, first post but very much need help. I saw similar threads to what my problem is but not exactly the same.

Basically I got a new wireless adapter last weekend. It was working fine, but then an automatic windows update occurred and I could not connect to the Internet anymore. It just says "limited access". I system restored to before the update and it went back to working fine. But now I can't restore to that previous point anymore so Internet is completely gone. I've not been able to get a cable to connect yet but I'm fairly sure that will work. However I would obviously prefer wireless to work.

I'm positive it has to do with this update but have no idea what and how to solve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having trouble trying to get my wifi to work. All this happen right after i fresh install the os.
I never had this problem before until now. Usually, it would be working right after a clean install but i guess
my luck ran out. This happen ever since i bought myself a Macbook Pro Retina. Maybe my laptop is very jealous -.-

It is Toshiba Satellite T115D-S1120

I tried web searching, tried driver install but it didn't work.
Any help will be great.

A:Limited Access (WiFi Connection) after fresh install Windows 7

Plug it in via ethernet cable to your router or modem, enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3) and watch for driver to be installed in bottom-right System Tray. If it does, run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates which should deliver your other drivers including wireless.

If not in Device Manager click on Network driver for wireless, on Driver tab have it Update Automatically.

If that fails import the Wireless driver from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC using the Serial Number or model number, choosing Wifi or Wireless LAN and the bit version. Download the isntaller, unzip, rightclick on Setup to run, or browse into the driver folder from Device Manager>Network driver>Update driver>Browse.

If you have problems with any of this let us know.

Try rebooting the router & modem. Usually limited connection, means that the compute has failed to communicate properly with the Wireless Access Point, or wired router connection.

So my wifi drops randomly I have done almost everything I found on my goggle search
such as; Unchecking power management, Max Power performance, resetting my tcp(think that's it), something involving ipconfig, and countless other things.

What do I need to do to fix this problem? I really want to start back gaming on my pc but the random wifi drops really ruin my experience.

Also I may have a DNS server problem? My wifi is working fine on my gaming consoles, phones, and my mom's laptop.

Hi.

Sorry it is a repeating question but I have seen so many answers and been chasing my tail to fix this for so long that I have just given up and decided to ask myself!

Using Outlook to send & recieve mails from a webmail hoster, I regularly get booted off the internet and am left with the Limited Access message. Usually unplugging the router clears it but it is a nuisance to say the least.

I have even tried reverting to a cable but the problem continues.

The problem even happens to my wife's Samsung laptop, although the info below is from mine.

Thanks in advance ...

Hello to the forum,

Well I have another problem. This problem is with a Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop with an Intel processor. First off, this is not my computer, it belongs to my sister in-law, so I have limited information as to what transpired leading up to the problem. There seems to be a lot of people with similar problems with Windows 7, but I haven't been able to find a fix.

I have done all the basic testing that can be found covering this issue, and since many of the fixes require an Internet connection, well you get the picture.

Now, I admit that I know very little about computers, but this problem seems like either a virus has taken over, or there's a software / hardware conflict.

I'm able to access all of the control functions for the Internet, and all services, and hardware show that they are working properly. There doesn't appear that there is a recent program change, or download that can be tied directly to the time period when the connection was lost about a week ago. (yes I've been trying to fix this for a week now, this is my last resort)

Also, the system restore only goes back 2 days, so the computer can't be set back to a time before the problem started.

Codes are as follows.2000-0151, OX490, OX8007042c, OFOO:0232, 968634624:, MSG 1068 appears when trying to restart the service. And the dreaded BSOD has appeared a couple of times, but disappears before I could get the codes.

I've done quite a bit of research on this problem, and to be... Read more

Have windows 7 os and have a problem connecting to certain websites e.g. google, hotmail etc but otherwise can surf the net. Tried diagnosing problem and the message came up "your dns server might be unavailable." I have tried troubleshooting from online advice - resetting the router, restarting everything, tried resetting the dns cache and changing the ip address but that just lead to an ip conflict. Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Limited internet access with windows 7

this maybe a malware issue or maybe a DNS issue
but first check hosts file - see below

next try google open dns

Checking the Host file
Open Notepad - Start> Programs> Accessories> and right click on Notepad select "Run as Administrator" to open a notepad
Now goto 'File' > 'Open' and browse to the HOSTS file - which will be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. - you may need to change the drop down box next to the file name:box from Text Documents (*.txt) to ALL Files (*.*)
The file should look like the info at the bottom of this post

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.
Once you are finished, go up to 'File' and click 'Save'. Make sure to change the Save as Type: box to All files.
Otherwise, Notepad may add a .txt extension to the file which will keep it from working. If you don't have your system set to show extensions, it's easy to miss that.

there cold be several reasons.

first try ipconfig /flushdns, then ipconfig /renew if that helps it is a dns issue

if that doesnt help and you are using "homegroup" it may well be that for homegroup has connectivity issues on some mixed OS networks. you can verify it by making a new network connection using "workgroup". If that works you can then kill IPv6, and homegroup

Hi, im having trouble with my wifi. The day before it works fine but then the next day i turned on my Vaio laptop and it says Limited Access to my home wifi. I tried connecting to other wifi but same thing. I tried resetting the router, disabling and enabling the wireless connection but all didnt work. I tried connecting it with the cable directly still cannot connect. Finally i did a system restore to the day before where its working fine, it worked. The next day it says Limited Access again! So im guessing 'something' made my wifi error after that 1 day and i dont know what to do.. Any help would be appreciated.

On a more serious note, as the title says, I would appreciate any sort of help as I am really clueless on what to do now I have to resort using my phone to do work as I have no internet access.

Stuff ive done is power management to max performance, installed lastest 8.1 drivers from Lenovo and intel site, uninstall driver in safe mode etc...

Thanks

A:always limited internet access after windows 8.1 update

You didn't even mention if this was a wired or wireless connection?

Have you tried going to the Windows Update Center using a wired connection for the latest updates.

The Lenovo site shows wireless drivers which came out yesterday, they may make changes to them if they aren't working so check the driver version. Other than that this particular model of Lenovo is famous for having problems which I'm sure you are aware of, no magic fix that I know of.

Hello. Today, when i opened my PC i found out that i have "No internet connection". The last time i used it was last night, and it worked like a charm. The problem is from the software itself I guess because other devices seem to be working fine connected to the internet. This also happened to me while using windows 8.1 but I got it fixed everytime with a simple "netsh" command. Now things aren't this simple, i tried multiple fixes and none of them worked. I tried to update the driver from the device manager but i can't find the microsoft and the producer driver, instead i find some outdated drives from like 2013.

Thank you for the time you put into reading my post.

I had exactly the same issue. Everything was working like a charm after the upgrade to Win 10 until yesterday nght. When I came back from work today I was asked to reboot after a windows update with 3 KBxxxxxx files updates. I thing that the problem is due to this upgrade but I have no clue on what was upgraded. This problem has been bugging me for a while and after yet another virus attack due to my children downloading stuff [I have sorted this ], I would like to fix the problemBoth computers run windows XP the main one is hard wired to the modem and the laptop connects via a wireless router.I have set up limited user accounts on the main computer with access to the Internet using Firefox and everything is running OK. However the laptop will not allow limited accounts to access the internet FireFox [preferred browser] it looks like it fails to open [though you have to shut programme down on exiting the account] and IE opens but the page fails to load.IF I change their accounts to admin ones go into their accounts and access the internet leave it open and then go back to mine and change their user permission to limited. It is still working fine until they either log out or switch teh computer off.Is there a problem with how the laptop is connecting to the network? On their limited account the WIFI connection is shown to be working. Can anyone help me resolve this problem, I have seen countless posts on the web, but none [so far] with a clear guide on how to resolve this issuer. Many thanks, any help is really appreciated, before I let the children back on the laptop .

I am not sure why, but my laptop at the office constantly goes to limited connectivity only. If I disconnect and connect it will work again, but then the cycle repeats anywhere between 2 minutes after to a couple of hours.

There are lots of other computers in the office and only mine is doing this. I have gone into the cmd prompt and run an ipconfig dnsflush release and renew. I have gone to the intel website and installed the newest drivers from my wifi chip and if anything it might be happening a bit more often.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I am at a loss of what to try next, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out. I am happy to follow instructions posted and provide any log files that you think may be of use.

Hi,

so I came home from college for break and my laptop connected fine to my house WiFi on Thursday but starting last night (I didn't use it on Friday or Saturday) my laptop has "limited access" to my house WiFi. No internet access at all.

I went to Starbuck's earlier and it connected without any issues. My brother claims that it's my college's (unprotected) WiFi that changed my settings so it won't let me connect to the protected house WiFi but it worked fine with the house WiFi on Thursday night.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

Hi there everyone ,

I have an HP Elitebook 8460p on Windows 7 connecting with Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced N-6205.

I used to be able to connect a certain WiFi connection for a long time, then suddenly, the day after... Trying to connect, it connects for a second (i see white bars and connection looks fine), i open up Chrome which says no connection found (blank page appears) and then WiFi Signal in my tray gets a yellow triangle with exclamation mark [Limited-Access]. Since the problem started, I am able to connect through another WiFi connection named linksys_media that I never saw before and that is WEIRDLY having the SAME password as the one I am suppose to be able to connect to at first... I've uninstalled my drivers, reinstalled... Problem still here... The password is good... I don't know... Sometimes instead of writing Limited-Access it says No Internet Access... and with my IPhone I am able to connect with the password and connection works fine.... Please Help... My ex-connection was way faster than linksys_media to which I am connected at the moment.

P.s. I've found a post on this site with an answer that solved problem for many but I didn't have AVG installed and didn't find AVG Internet Filter or something like in my protocols...

THANKS!

Hey guys I need help please. I am using a Toshiba NB505 Netbook running Windows 7 Starter.

I usually access the internet via tethering my phone - and yesterday morning when I tried to play my morning crossword puzzle, I received an error stating that an important file "xw_control.xml" could not be found. I was using Firefox so I tried Chrome, with the same result.

I googled and learned (I think) that this file is possibly flash related, and I know my flash was out of date - so I downloaded the latest flash from Adobe.

Now I am unable to connect to the internet at all. It connects to my phone, but with "Limited access". And I tried a wifi location at my local library and it does the same thing - Limited access only.

I have restarted, shutdown, and done a battery-pull on the phone - to no avail. I have no idea what is happening, so I'm hoping you guys can help me. Thank you very much.

A:Limited access only when trying to connect to wifi etc.

I uninstalled flash to no avail. So I guess I can't blame that. How do I go about troubleshooting the limited access? I have connected just fine to this phone (and other networks) for a long time. Until now...

Every time I start my laptop, I can't access the internet and get a "limited access" warning on my wireless network.
The "troubleshoot problems" option fixes the problem (usually by resetting the network adapter), but it's not a permanent solution, because as soon as I restart the laptop, it's the same story all over again.

I have a desktop (Windows 7) connected through ethernet and another desktop (XP Home) also connected over wifi, both working just fine.

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1
Network adapter: Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
Signal strength: fair (starting my laptop right next to the router to get excellent strength doesn't help)
Modem/Router: B-Box2 (Sagem [email protected] 3464)
Firewall: Windows Firewall
Antivirus: AVG Free Edition

A:WiFi limited access on startup

Most likely this is because of a preinstalled wireless connection software which can be uninstalled by going to add/remove programs. In most cases it's best to use the Windows 7 connection wizard.

I would definitely get rid of the "free" AVG as this software causes connection problems all the time.

Let me know if those changes have any effect on the problem.

I have a new Toshiba (not sure if that really matters) which came with Windows 8. The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7. I don't know if that's important.Main point: I am the only one in my house whose computer cannot use the wifi. I used it for about three weeks with not more complicatios than everyone else until a day or two ago. Now while others have normal access mine continues to be limited with not internet access. When Microsoft searches for a problem it says "Problems found: 'Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration'". Do I need to do something with my computer, the modem, the router, or something else? Many thanks

A:Wifi connected with limited access

The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7Although routers can connect multiple devices at the same time by wireless there are some obstacle you must check first like the distance and interference. The wireless feature of the router such as channel and signal would be the clear probable solution. Depending also on your router, look for an updated firmware version that might stabilize your whole connection and try updating your network adapter if available.

It?s a desktop using wifi to avoid a long cable deployment. I?m using my husband?s machine, right next to mine, to post about it, over the same wifi network, but according to my machine there are either no networks available or the connection is limited, which seems to mean useless. The device manager says the network card and the wifi fob are working correctly, and i had no trouble until 2 days ago. I got out an old, long cable and connected to the network with that, and for a few minutes Chrome said there was no internet connection while Skype worked fine. Now Chrome has found the network.
I tried the reset IP stack solution suggested in a closely related thread today with no luck. Utorrent had sent out an update just before this started, i tried deleting it and ran CCleaner. This has been an intermittent problem, as well - last night the wifi worked fine.

Okay, so I moved my wireless router to a more central location in my house (I got low signal in my room) and since then I've been able to connect to the network but only with limited access. Trying to connect to a webpage results in the "DNS lookup failed" error message (Chrome). My brother's computer had had the same issue, and the PlayStation 3 has had connectivity issues also, however I have been able to use my phone with the WiFi without any issues.

I've tried unplugging/turning the router on and off to no effect. Using a different router does not change the situation either. When I try to diagnose the network connection, it says that it could not identify the problem. Any ideas?

Some information:

Both computers run Windows 8
My phone is a Nokia Lumia 620 running WP8
The WiFi status window states that IPv4 and IPv6 have no internet access
My computer uses a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 wireless network adapter and says it is working correctly. The adapter is set to work with IPv4/6. IPv4 is set to obtain IP & DNS addresses automatically.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all

Having a bit of an issue with my home WiFi with a BT Homehub type A. At random intervals I'll get limited access and not be able to use the internet. This is quickly resolved by disconnecting and reconnecting to the WiFi. I thought I'd fixed the issue by doing the following commands:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /register dns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

But after around 24 hours the issues have resurfaced.

I have the following situation. I'm running Dell Latitude D630 with Windows 7. Using built-in WiFi, at home connecting to Router from AT&T UVerse

Everything worked fine for months. Now I have the following situation. It finds the WiFi, and connects, but with only "limited access". The network status says:
Limited Access
IPv4 Connectivity: No network access
IPv6 Connectivity: No network access
Media State: Enabled

After doing the diagnostics, it said the following:
Problems found:
"Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Well, clearly it doesn't because the DHCP didn't assign it one, because, hey, it couldn't connect!

For giggles, I entered what I know to be the right IP address for this computer, along with the gateway and DNS settings, and sure enough, it works. So, for some reason, the DHCP isn't working.

I am not sure what I've done to the computer to cause this. It connects to other WiFi networks just fine (Starbucks, hotel and airport networks, work network)

Also, although I'm using DHCP, in the router, I've set up each computer in the network to be assigned a fixed address. So, the set up I have now will work fine, but I'm sure that if I go to another network, I'll have to switch back to DHCP client on the laptop.

Furthermore, the home network wifi works just fine when I use the MacBook. So that means, the router is fine and is able to assign it an address.

I *really* wish Windows... Read more

Just to clarify does the router give out ip's to any machine?
Are you sure that the Mac book is getting a dynamic (random) ip everytime and that it isn't just using the last one? have you tried renewing the ip on the mac book to see if it finds a new one (don't ask me how :P)

I would suggest rebooting the router and changing the DHCP range on it, if it uses 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 then change it to 192.168.x.1 (something like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) it may well be the router has forgot to release the ip's it has previously assigned to devices and hence has run out.

My situation is a little bit hard to explain but I'll try to tell you the best I can; about 3 days ago my father cut the power to the house too replace a bathroom light without getting electrocuted. Ever since then my laptop has been playing up in all sorts of ways, most notably the poor internet connection (hence why I put this thread in the network area because I'm not too sure what's going on with it at all).

To sum up it's problems quickly: certain things tend to take a lot of time on it. Plugging in memory sticks, opening up new Windows, even the Internet. I do know that it isn't my family's wifi that is the problem, all our other devices work and my laptop has the same trouble with my school's Internet (also because it isn't only my wifi being effected). I also know that it's not memory or CPU related.

It pretty much turned from a pretty decent laptop of it's age to the slowest computer in the world within an hour.

Anyone what the problem is, or do I need to give anymore detail?

A:Limited access to wifi and more for unknown reason (laptop)

Ok, now the Internet has fully stopped working and some apps crash when opened.

The rest of the computers in the house work fine on the wifi and I double-checked the securtiy settings (WAP2 and all that) and it seems fine. What can I do? Tethering to my phone allows me to get on the internet and the computer connects successfully, but no websites will load whatsoever.

Hello all,

I have been having this "limited access" problem that prevents me from connecting to the internet. There is a "!" located on top of my signal bars in the icon tray and it says "limited access" under my wifi network.

This all occured during a malware removal process. It would seem the malware and viruses are gone but this problem still persists.

-All other computers and devices are still able to connect to the network.
-turned off router and turned back on.
-retyped network password.
-disconnected / reconnected.
Any help would be great, thank you all in advance.

A:Limited Access - wifi problem - occured after malware removal

Uninstall your wireless driver, reboot, let windows re-install it.

1. Go to Start Menu
2. Right click on My Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
5. Click the + next to Network Adapters
6. Right click your Wireless Network Adapter
7. Click Uninstall
8. If a check box appears to delete the driver software for this device, check the box
9. Click OK
10. Restart your computer
11. Let Windows install the driver software
12. Find the newest driver software and install it from the Wireless Network Adapter's manufacturer site (if you need help with this, let us know)
Edit: Doing the above steps will require you to set up your wireless network on the computer affected. You will need your encryption key(s).

Hi everyone,

I have recently switched my work laptop from Win XP to Win 7 and have started encountering a weird WiFi issue.

When I turn the laptop on in the morning it auto connects to my home WiFi without any problem, but indicates that there is limited access and I can't use anything requiring internet.

So my first reaction was to disconnect/reconnect and guess what? It worked.

Now every single day I have to do the same manual disconnect/reconnect, which is getting old fast

I tried troubleshooting this issue and here are some conclusion I reached based on my testing:
- No such issue encountered with any Win XP machine
- No such issue encountered with any Ubuntu machine (12.04)
- Exact same issue encountered on my girlfriend's laptop (also on Win 7)
- My work laptop uses a VPN to access the company's network, but I manually launch it after the internet is connected, so it cannot have an impact on the initial WiFi connection

I have attached the result of ipconfig /all if it can help, but at this point I'm stuck.

Would anyone have any suggestion?

Just recently my HP ProBook 4520s, running Windows 7 32-bit, has had trouble connecting to the internet through WiFi. I've been reading into it and looking around the net, but to no avail. It shows my home network and connects, but with limited access (no access to the net in my case).

I did a system restore in hopes that it would fix the problem, and I got access for all of 30 seconds before it went back to limited connectivity. I manually updated the network card drivers, and still nothing. It's leading me to believe that its my router blocking access (Netgear WNDR3700). I haven't had a problem up until recently and its only with the laptop. My desktop PC, game consoles, and television can all still access the internet, with the desktop connecting through WiFi as well. I checked the router logs and noticed several DoS attacks and was thinking this may have something to do with it (and possibly laptop being infected?).

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.

I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).

In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

Scope of Problem:
This is a Desktop LOADING based problem.
NOT a connection dropping, fading while in use problem.
Other Devices work fine.
Same problem with previous Modem.

Problem:
Wireless icon shows spinning busy symbol.
If it connects fine, then it will Remain fine until the next Restart

If connect fails then yellow exclamation mark shows over TaskBar Icon.
Viewing connection it shows as Limited Access, but signal strength is 5 Bars
A Manual Disconnect, then reConnect will always establish a working connection (sometimes needs two attempts).

Signal Strength is ALWAYS Excellent, No other devices have issues with WiFi.

This is a persistent and long term problem which has "survived" improved Modem placement , ISP directed settings changes, and a new Modem.

[ Other threads all seem to be about No Connection OR Dropping/Fading/Poor Connection. This isn't ].

Modem was the problem.

Recently the Thomson V8 was replaced with a telco provided Huawei HG630B.
The issue disappeared instantly, there is now just a little lag and then connection.

So problem solved.

So I have this problem that has been bugging me for months. I use the public library often. I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook and it works great 99% of the time, except in this specific library. The wifi just will not stay connected. It stays connected in almost all other public and private places but not this library. Now it is a big library and I'm using the standard Windows 7 wifi software so the library wifi only shows up as a single entry in the list of available wifi networks. However when using inSSIDer I can see that there are 11 SSID's with a mix of channels 1, 6, and 11. The wifi is all open with no password. My feeling is that it possibly keeps switching to whatever signal is the closest but I'm not sure. All I know is that it sporadically will go to limited connection and I have to manually disconnect and reconnect in order for it to work again. I can wait it out but that takes longer.

Is there any way to have me stay connected to a specific SSDI or channel? Are there more optimized wifi software I can use besides the stock Windows software? What would be causing it do go to limited connection every 10 minutes. Also the connection is great 4 bars usually and it doesn't physically disconnect it just becomes limited and then there is no use. Any other ideas?

Thanks

The C-prompt message shows you neither have an IP or a connected adapter. Try deleting your existing adapter configuration and reconnecting from scratch. Also, when done run ' c:\ping google.com -t ' or replace google.com with anything else. Also try a Wired connection to figure out if it's a SW or HW problem.

I have a Dell Vostro 3750 notebook which I upgraded from Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 using a Windows 10 "1511" build DVD. The upgrade was successful and I only had to reinstall one application. Since I have a network-attached disk, I use an Asus USB AC56 adapter connected to one of my USB3 ports for my WiFi instead of the built-in WiFi. This notebook is also used by other members of my family so I have a local administrator account and local standard user accounts for daily use. The WiFi is connecting to a Netgear R7000 router on the 5 GHz band (802.11ac).

Now the issue:
What often happens when the machine is booted, rebooted, or wakes from sleep is that the WiFi is enabled but the network shows "No Internet". All I have to do to get the Internet back is to unplug the WiFi adapter from the USB3 port and plug it back in, or go into the WiFi app to disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi network.

I have tried the following:
1) installed the latest USB AC56 drivers from the Asus website
2) edited the WiFi adapter properties to prevent Windows from turning off the device to conserve power.
3) tried using a different USB3 port (I believe the 2 USB3 ports are connected to different controllers).

There is no VPN software installed, but I do have VMWare Player 12.1 installed.

This isn't a huge issue since it is easy ... Read more

Hi -- I'm new here and I'm not sure I am posting this in the right forum, but my Gateway laptop won't access the internet and gives me the error in the network and connections as "connected with limited access" or "local only". My other computers connect fine to the router so its definitely my computer. I have Vista OS -- Gateway online "help" said I have a defective network card because the IP address came back as a default. So, I bought a usb network card, disabled my other one and still didn't work. I tried an ethernet cable and that doesn't work either. I also tried connecting to my city's free wifi with the same result.
System Restore didn't work
I put my setting to find the DNS and IP automatically
My Wireless network shows as connected -- I am just not able to get an IP

I had previously had an intermittent problem with this and assumed it was the signal. Now, it just stopped working entirely.

I am thinking this must be a problem with Vista, because the other network card and the cable didn't work either. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm having an issue with 1 of our laptops, Since yesterday haven't been able to access websites. I'm able to connect to our wifi but no internet access. I tried rebooting router, unplugging router, renewing ip addresses. In the past had a windows xp laptop that used to get conflicting ip addresses with 1 of our other devices. But when this would occur it wouldn't actually show as connected to the wifi, it would just say acquiring over and over.

Sometimes if I reboot the laptop i can get to a site for about a minute, then after that I'd lose the connection.

Any ideas? No issues with our other computers, devices.

Have you tried to reinstall the WiFi driver for the laptop?

See if completely forgetting your network then reconnecting helps.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and for some reason, the Internet has stopped working sometime during the evening on the 20th of July in 2016 after I unsuccessfully tried to fix Just Cause 2 by changing a setting for Data Execution Prevention from "turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" to "turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" and I selected "Just Cause 2" and its shortcuts and I restarted my laptop for the changes to take effect (I will explain this problem further in another thread). It now sometimes says connected or limited access but unidentified network and no Internet access. I don't know why the Internet stopped working after that.

The Internet only works in Safe Mode with Networking but not in normal mode.

I right-clicked the Wireless Connection icon, clicked "troubleshoot problems" and the Windows Network Diagnostics troubleshooter loads and tries to troubleshoot the problem for a few seconds and it then tells me to turn off the modem for 10 seconds and then turn it back on.

I've tried that multiple times, System Restore, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and maybe Panda Antivirus to no avail.

I don't have this problem on my iPad, my phones and some other devices, only on my laptop.

I don't want to have to buy a reinstall Windows 7 or buy a new laptop or computer.

Can you please help me fix the Internet on my laptop as soon as possible?

Hi PK2,
Sounds more like you game caused the problem.
Revert the DEP settings, hopefully that will give you your internet back.
If that fails try your OLDEST restore point.

You will NOT have to buy W7 again, your comp has a factory restore option, possibly in the Dell program files, or via your Bios.

Im assuming your other problem is a BSOD.
Go Control panel >> device manager >> update your graphics card and Network adapters, and are there any marked with an ! or a small black down arrow or Problem devices.

I bought a Medion Laptop 5 months ago running Windows 8.1 with no problems at all.
I hadn't got it switched on for a couple of weeks until Sunday past.
But I could not connect to the internet. It said I had limited access to the net but I have none at all.
I reverted back to factory settings not once but twice but still the same problem.Switched the router on and off numerous times.Every other internet based appliance in the house is working perfectly.I took it down to a friends house and connected first time.I know this is a Windows 8.1 problem as I have trawled through the internet seeking a solution.Every conceivable solution I have seen, ihave tried but with no luck.
Can anyone at all help me .Getting desperate now.

A:Limited Access To Internet With 8.1......In Fact No Access

"Limited" access usually means you can connect to an internal network (LAN) but not the an external network (a WAN i.e. Internet).

You can go to the Control Panel >Network & Sharing Center. Does it show the map with a "red X" before the Internet icon?
If so, click on it and let the troubleshooter start.
Maybe you need to use the "Connect to a Network" setup choice.
Are you trying to connect only by Wi-Fi, or did you also try with Ethernet cable connected to laptop?

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

Hi - need some help with putting the internet back on my new computer !! Without doing anything ( no downloading or updating ) the computer has suddenly lost internet - saying that it is connected but there is a little symbol to say that it is a limited connection ( I am now usiing my old computer to write this message ! ) Looked it up online and tried the basic things suggested ( putting in commands ( when you press wndows / x and a ) and unchecking a box about power options - but no good ! ( sorry for the lack of precise details but not computer savvy ! )
Very frustrated as the whole point of a new computer is for it to work !!!!  Any suggestions ? - PLEASE !!!!!

A:limited internet access ( i.e. small sign and no internet )

Usually happens when your adapter is bad, drivers are hosed, bad cable connecting the computer to the router or switch, or router IP table hosed up.  Try a ipconfig /flushdns in a Command Window as administrator, along with resetting the Winsock.  Also try turning off modem & router and then turn back on in the following steps:  Modem (wait for it to come back online with the ISP), then Router.

It also helps to know the manufacturer & model of the computer, along with how the computer was connected to the Internet (wired or wireless), along with model & manufacturer of router.

When we try to diagnose problem it says problem with network adapter driver. We cannot update driver as no acces to internet. Shee needs this working for going back to university next week so can anyone help us.

A:Limited access to internet

Just a point. If you've no access to the internet, how have you posted this thread?

You haven't told us the exact model of the laptop, so you'll need to choose from this link: HP G62-100 Notebook PC series*-* Download drivers and software - specify product name - HP Business Support Center

Download the wireless adapter driver and save it to a USB flash drive, which you can then connect to your daughter's laptop and install the driver from there.

I am having a similar issue thus last week, no or limited internet access which I think is due to driver issues. Mine is a hp pavilion dv6 notebook pc, don't know where to find model number. I have had the blue screen flashed once or twice and the laptop freezes when I'm.working in word or on the net due to driver that requires updating. I've tried to download when I was connected and it did nothing. I'm running win7, 64-bit os. So, what do I need to do to get my laptop working again? Also, I've been told by ex-computer geek friends that security/ updates for office 2003/2007/2010 and security update and update for win7 fir x64 base systems are not necessary. Is this true??I'm totally clueless in this field.Much appreciatedJulz

You will need to transfer the logs via cd because if there is an infection it can spread via thumb drive but not a blank cd/dvd

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue. Right Click and run as admin for these tools.
Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:
Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
List Devices (problems only)

Click Go and post the result.

Hi Guys,

I'm having a look at my brother in laws computer which is windows 10 and I am coming up with a doozy of an issue for someone of my level. So he was unable to run Fifa15 and discovered that you need windows media player to run it. When using the add windows features it kept coming up with error 0x800F0922 which is .NET 3.5. I tried to disable and enable .NET3.5 and while it disabled fine it would not enable. It appears that no microsoft service can get access to the microsoft servers. The ethernet is limited however the internet browser is working fine and with Windows 7 I would have just downloaded the software and installed in manually but it appears Windows 10 does not like people doing anything the old fashioned way and I am unable to find any of the software (plus it would not solve the issue probably).

He had recently installed panda internet security after AVG stopped working and would not install. After having both AVG and panda installed he could then remove AVG although the original issue was never looked into. Not having any experience with Panda I swapped it for Avast which I normally run and did some sweeps including a startup sweep and quarantined:

trz8483.tmp
N1Cert.dll - NMsvc
N1Service.dll - NMsvc
N1service64.dll - NMsvc

Still trying to find out what NMsvc is however this has not solved the issue that windows 10 thinks there is limited ethernet, all problem solving/troubleshoot problems do not detect any issues and chrome is working fine browsing... Read more

Network Manager Suite is a software program developed by Guardian Technologies. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. The setup package generally installs about 20 files and is usually about 6.79 MB (7,114,966 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 8. Most users that have installed this software come from the United States.

so it looks like something was installed that uses that guardian software

Hello all So here is the problem, I tried to upgrade to windows 10 all was going well the computer restarted a time or two and it displayed a big % complete on the screen. It reached 91% and at the bottem of the screen a small 67% installed files. The computer froze like that for an hour. I tried to press a couple of keys of the key board nothing happend so I turned the computer off. When it restarted it reverted back to the old version of the OS, all was working just fine except the internet. It says I have limited access, tried the repair says the drivers are messed up, used my laptop to download the drivers and an external to transfer them nothing, used the computers own restore program to try and get the driver back nothing. I dont want to do a full refresh just yet since it will take some time to back up all the files on the computer. Anyone have any other sugestions? Thanks John

Hi, I appreciate what you're doing here and hopefully you can help me.

I now can only access certain internet pages, if at all. Sometimes I even have to restart the computer just to view a page, however some won't show at all. They mainly consist of a few forum sites that I frequent that I can no longer access, but thankfully this is not one of them (atleast for now :)).

I use AVG, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and ewido, but can never get rid of it permanently. Spybot picks up the virus "ZLOB DNS changer" which would, you think, be the cause. Anyway here's my HJ log:

My computer running Windows 8.1 randomly decided to give limited internet access. The internet works fine (just a little slower sadly) however I can't access the network. I have a static IP and all of a sudden it just started being limited. Is there any solutions.

Router is the first item to look at.

Hello everyone. First i'm sorry for my bad english, but i think u'll understand me.
Yesterday i installed Windows 10, all was fine, but after hour of working, i saw that my wifi connection goes to limited and i don't have internet acces. I need to disconnect and connect and it works for 30-45 minutes, and then again go to limited. I have windows 7 before, and there i don't have this problem, but when i tried windows 8(half year ago) i have same issue.
I have Hp pavillion g7-1307sm laptop.
Motherboard: HP 1672

I think it's maybe problem with my network adapter driver( Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi adapter ), becouse i think it's old. It is from 15/08/2012. Version: 6.30.59.49

If u need any more information, just say, and i hope u will help me about this problem.

Have you tried resetting your Router so the WI-FI signal is stronger
Normally you have to shut Router down via main or Use Reset Button found through a little hole in back.
Once done just reconnect and it should reboot
That is how I have had to do mine in the past.

Also see if there are any updated drivers for your model

Hello all you tech whizzes!
Here is my dilemma: up until last morning my internet connection had been working perfectly fine. My computer is connected wirelessly through a D-Link wireless adapter and has been ever since summer, so I don't see how the problem just started yesterday (my brother and sister's wireless connection are also doing fine.) I discover that there is the yellow ball near the internet access symbol so I try to troubleshoot the problem. Windows tells me that I have a problem with the device of the wireless adapter. So in response to this, I check up my wireless adapter. It is very well inside the USB port and is lighting up. When I open up the wireless adapter symbol it shows me that I am connected to the main router with a strong signal. Still no internet connection.
I try to update my driver, but how can I do that with no internet connection?

Please help me find a solution for this problem; all help is appreciated!

Hi there
I am using window 7 home primium 64bit on my Asus laptop.
I had connected the internet at 4 am, but I couldn't have connected the Internet from 9 am til now. The wireless network connection shows 'limited access'.
My roommates can access the Internet by their laptops and I'm using my iPod touch to write this now.
I believe there is no problem in Modem or router. It is not about security key issue, too. I was using the Internet even in the early morning.
It is very weird that the Internet doesn't work although I didn't do anything but shut down and turn on my laptop.
I have been searching websites but I couldn't have found the same problem like mine.

Please help me smart guys.

This article describes all the netsh wlan commands you can use in Windows 7 or Vista to collect information about your Wireless connection, especially when you are having problem.

Open a command prompt and enter

netsh wlan show all > netshwlan.txt & notepad netshwlan.txt

That will capture all the available information about your wireless connection, direct the output to a file called netshwlan.txt, open Notepad with the contents of that file.

Post the content here if it's not too big, otherwise use the paperclip options (must use the Go Advanced button below the message input area button to access it).

If you redirect the output to a file when things are working then you can do the same when things are not working and compare them to see what, if anything has changed.

I have an HP Laptop Windows 7, I'm using a Links E2500 Router and can not connect to internet. Other computers, and phones work on wireless system, and using a cat 5 cable connection. All I get is "limited Access". I tried re-installing router software, and it gets stuck at 25%. This computer worked fine prior to me traveling out of state, and worked out of state. After returning home I was unable to return back online.

A:Limited internet access (can not connect)

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

hi,

I'm in China for half a year, on an international campus, trying to set up my internet. For the first two weeks of my stay they gave me a free ADSL internet connection which I managed to connect to for a couple of hours. Then suddenly it went off and I can't connect at all. I managed to create a wifi signal (using the same ADSL connection) to use my phone, but whenever I try to connect my laptop it says the access is only limited. What can I do to fix this?
