Disable WiFi hardware switch on laptop

Q: Disable WiFi hardware switch on laptop

Hi.

I have a pesky little brother who keeps switching off the WiFi switch on my laptop when I leave home without some downloads on. He does so that he can hog up all the bandwidth for himself.

Is there any way I could disable the WiFi switch so that my WiFi stays on at all times? I have a Lenovo Y560.

Thanks.

A: Disable WiFi hardware switch on laptop

If he can't turn off the WiFi what will stop him from just powering the system down?

There may be a way to catch the key using AutoHotkey. You would have to have a script running that echos the vk key codes as each key is pressed. Once you know the code for the WiFi key you can just intercept it with a one line script.

But he could still just close the program running the script or hold down the power button.

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with one Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 notebooks. At first I was not able to start in windows the wireless but after multiple uninstall/install/update of the drivers I managed to do it. Still Windows shows WiFi on but in the same time off and I can't see any WLAN networks. The windows diagnose of the WLAN adapter shows - wireless capability is turned off The Lenovo Diagnostic Tools shows - Warning Hardware state is off I've checked BIOS, check the settings of the card and I don't have a hardware switch on the notebook. Is there any way that I could "reset" this lock or enable it somehow? Thanks in advance I forgot to add that the notebook is with Windows 10 64bit and there are not much apps and drivers for it.

...but it's not.

Hi, I'm Antonio. About a month ago, while I was doing work, I tried to access Ubuntu from my jump drive to look at a certain application (don't remember what). Couldn't get the wifi working in Ubuntu (as had happened in the past), so I gave up. When I got back to Windows 8, the wi-fi was not working in Windows, either! It's still not working. Despite the wifi switch being clearly in the "on" position, it doesn't think the wifi is on. Toggling the switch with the Device manager open shows the Bluetooth drivers popping in and out, so the switch is physically working, at any rate. The wifi drivers stay put, and Device Manager thinks they're working fine.

Sony Vaio S series laptop (VPCSB11FX). Windows 8, 64-bit. I've tried:

-Deleting and re-installing drivers.
-Deleting and re-enabling.
-Doing a system refresh.

If I go back into Ubuntu (as I'm doing now), I can fire off an "rfkill unblock all" command, and the wifi works. Hardware swtich and all. How do I get Windows to think my switch is on, and that my hardware is working?

I found the solution. I removed the BIOS battery for 5 Min and after this everything worked. Still if someone knows another approach it will be better.

Hey - my hardware wifi switch keeps breaking, thinking it's in the off position. I can temporarily fix it by opening up the laptop and jigger the connections, but this takes a full hour every time i do it, and it only seems to last a month or so, then it breaks again and i have to open up the computer again.  Is it possible to simply disable the hardware switch?

I have a Toshiba satellite L350D 01M laptop. My warranty period is over and I wanted to clean out the fans etc... and I have taken apart many laptops in the past but man it was hard to get all the connectors from the keyboard etc hooked up without unplugging another one because of the lack of wiggle room, how the guys at Toshiba put them together i will never know anyway i finally managed to get them all hooked up and the case back together but the wifi radio switch next to the SD slot was not aligned properly and rather than go through the nightmare of hooking it all back up again i forced the switch a little too much well actually a lot too much as i busted the dang thing right off.

so now i can't switch on the wifi which ain't that bad for home 'cause i have a wired modem but when i am out and about i need the wifi capability. someone suggested bridging the two connections i can see inside (a guy at staples) but that if it did work each time i shut it down i would have to bridge it again, well I tried that and I did something wrong as the whole system shut off like a lightening bolt and i thought i fried the motherboard as i couldn't get it to turn on, but i unhooked the battery unplugged and held down the power button for ten seconds then i plugged it back in minus the battery and luckily it worked, there is no way i am going to try that again and if i don't have to (i can't afford it anyway) is there anyway i can bypass the hardwire switch... I have never connected to the Internet on this computer. I had downloaded a 2 second animation video from Tumblr on another computer, put it on a flashdrive, and put it on the laptop.  When I click on the Tumbler video, although I am in User/Pictures, the end of the file says Internet Explorer and it seems like it may be connecting to the Internet. How is this possible when I have never set this up? I have clicked off for the WLAN connectivity and the wifi light is red. Does this mean I am not on the Internet?  Could this video be running without connection even though it seems like it is? Please let me know how to permanently disable wifi access. Thank you.

I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.

I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.

Thanks.

Is it possible to switch off a laptop screen - laptop runs Windows 7 - and prevent it being switched on again, without inputting a password?

I need to keep the laptop running, therefore I can't put it to sleep and logging-off has become a pain.

I've tried the Power Options, but the display comes on again when the mouse is nudged.

I've also tried "Fn + F6" on my Acer laptop, which switches off the screen, but an accidental key press brings it to life again.

Any ingenious little prog around? None I've seen have that crucial password privacy aspect.

Our school IT department has purchased 56 Dell laptops with Windows 7 Professional x32. We also have projectors installed in the classroom. The projector cables are plugged into Dell E-port docking stations. The problem is that even with the projector in standby (off), it still communicates with the computer. Therefore Windows 7 automatically enables dual display clone and re-sizes to a 4:3 ratio in pillar box format. This will certainly draw complaints from the teachers. Is there a way to disable this auto-switch function? That way they could use the "Fn+F8" hot key to enable the projector when needed and disable it to return the screen to the 1280x800 resolution.

A:Disable Projector Auto-switch

Give this a whirl:

1. Open the Control Panel (Classic View).

A) Click Administrative Tools -> Computer Management.

2. Click Continue for the UAC prompt.

3. In the left pane, expand Task Scheduler, Task Scheduler Library, Microsoft, Windows, and click on MobilePC.

4. In the middle pane, right click on TMM.

5. To Disable TMM - Click on Disable.

NOTE: TMM is enabled by default in Vista.

7. Close Task Scheduler.

8. Logoff and logon, or restart the computer to see the change.

ALSO: Select TMM, Right click -> Properties, Triggers tab, Edit "At Log on", uncheck Enabled.

Any luck?

im working in company that develop high speed networking equimpnet(Mellanox)
we develop 40\56GB network cards and switches.
we have developer network on HP pro curve switchs, the engineering make tets on servers with the high speed network cards and sometimes the test "go out" from the 40\56GB network cards and switches and "boombing" the regular network of 1G in hp swiches.
i meen every server are connecting with RJ-45 cable for access to the server and the real work is on th Mellanox switches and network cards but sometimes the test "run away" to the ethernet network and 40G traffic are killing the network.

my question is if anybody knwon on function in HP switches that recognize over booking traffic and automatic disable the bombed port?
now we have spening tree and brodcaste limit on every switch but its not enough, the big traffic kill the network until we disable the problematic port and igonre the bombing server.
we have hp procurve 5610 layer3 switch and pro curve 2510 switches.
i hope you understand the question

To start, I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Studio laptop. I've been experiencing problems whenever I leave my home wireless network while traveling and then switch to a Verizon wireless USB card. Whenever I return to my home wireless and boot up the computer my wireless is not activated. It tells me the hardware radio switch is set to off. No I know you have to turn it back on by hitting the blue Fn (function) key and then also hit the F2 at the same time. My problem is it appears the Fn key isn't working and will not turn it back on nor will it work on any of the other function keys such as the battery indicator, etc. Is there anything I can do to make sure the function key is enabled? Is there another way to switch on the radio button? I've searched for this but cannot find anything. If anyone has any detailed instructions, please let me know. In the past the Fn key did work, but today it is not.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

New custom computer with all new hardware, hard freezes. Started the 2nd day I got it.
My computer is:
Intel i7 3rd Generation 3770k, Intel Onboard graphics,
Asus H61M-A Motherboard, 1 Crucial DDR3 Ram 8GB 1600mhz
Samsung Evo 840 SSD as primary drive, Seagate 1TB HDD (for storage),
and Orion 585 watt power supply.
During the freezes the mouse cursor disappears, audio stops and keyboard gives no response.
I have to do a cold reboot to get it working again.
Typically the computer freezes every 1-2 days.
After reinstalling windows the computer went 3 weeks with a freeze.
After flashing the bios it went a week without a freeze.

I've tried every troubleshoot Os or driver related.
What hardware do you think is causing the problem?
Do you think upgrading the Psu will solve it, or should I switch the motherboard too?

Other information:
-Ran Memtest 5 times with no errors.
-Flashed the Bios
-Checked temperatures, looked fine.
-Ran multiple stress test, including for processor, all passed.

Thanks

I take it you have done a chkdsk and sfc? if not do so in safe mode

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html< if necessary include the /f switch in the command line as per Option2 I have used the /r switch in the past too with good results.

As for the hardware one of the first things I like to have a look at is the PSU so see this ditty of mine

Using HW Info

You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic.

The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel

FOR OTHER COMPONENTS

Open each + down into the component itself and then click on it - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that device. See pic for example.

Your power section should be the same as the one in the pic as it is my Asus board. Remember new doesn't guarantee it is good

Oh if you want to see if the PSU has enough power use this http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp it is fairly accurate for most cases

I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.

I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.

Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?

Thanks

A:WIFI on/off switch is grayed out

So to fix this what I did was hit the airplane mode key on my keyboard. The wifi switch in the pic I posted would stop being grayed out for about 5 seconds, and I had to switch it on in that time.

I'll note that flipping the airplane mode switch right above the wifi switch didn't do this, so I don't have a clue how it worked out.

So the wifi switch on my computer is broken off, although i am unsure how it happened. The places I have taken it to with questions have only told me expensive solutions for it such as having to replace the entire motherboard (which seems strange to me just because of one switch) anyways, I have wireless internet in my house, but cannot use it on my laptop so for anything that involves internet connection the laptop is useless. I also bought one of those netgear wireless usb adaptors and am still not able to get internet.

A:Wifi Switch Not Working

I may be wrong but the wifi switch should not affect an external USB adapter. What were the issues you were having when you installed the Netgear Wireless USB? Did you disable the internal wifi adapter (either in Windows or BIOS) prior to installing?

Hi All,

I have prioritized my connections to give preference to LAN over wifi (as I obviously prefer the fastest connection).

Hi,
I run an Ethernet cable to my modem for my Windows 10 PC. But unfortunately I have a lot of drop outs where the internet just stops (something I am taking up with my provider) and I have a pocket wifi to use as a back up.

My PC can find the wifi and connect but the only way I can get it to connect is by pulling out the blue Ethernet cable from the actual pc. (When I say connect, I mean it is "connected" already but not in use, the small box appears for the ethernet cable rather than the wifi icon)

I would like to know if there is a way to either run the wifi simultaneously with the Ethernet cable plugged in or if there is a way to "turn off" the Ethernet connection from my pc when it goes down, so that I dont have to keep unplugging it.

I am not very technically minded and am worried if I go into advanced network settings etc that I might not be able to get the Ethernet working again once it is plugged in and back up and running.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

A:How can I switch to WIFI from Ethernet instantly??

You can have both plugged in and still work. Each NIC is assigned a metric and the NIC with the lowest metric will be used. If in your are the wired NIC is still seen as available but in fact it's having problems the computer will still try and use it unless you unplug the cable. If your computer supports a feature called LAN/WLAN switching that may work in your case that may work or may suffer from the same problem in which the wired NIC is still detected as connected and it won't switch. If you are only having an issue with the wired connection why not just stay on wireless?

Hello I just bought a brand new computer 3 days ago. Haven't been using it that long. It's an HP Envy 810qe or something like that. The first day I played on it 77 windows updates were downloaded.

The computer has built in Bluetooth which I love but I noticed it was always-on and was wondering if there was an on/off switch. I searched Google and seen there is an on/off switch in PC Settings, PC Devices, Bluetooth. Unfortunately I do not have this. Also under PC Settings and Network I do not have an on/off switch for the wifi. I also don't have anything in PC Settings called Wireless. I talked with HP support (since I just bought this computer) their only option was to do a System Restore or Recovery. I talked to Microsoft support and their only option was to pay for a premium membership so they could use their 'advanced tools' to scan my system and find out the problem. (which is my long history of dealing with computers and support their answer would have probably been the same which was System Restore or Recovery, at which who even knows if this is going to fix the problem)

So now I come to this community my first time here (wave) asking for assistance. I temporarily disabled my Bluetooth in Device Manager because I don't know if it's safe to have it constantly on if I'm not using it. A:Bluetooth and Wifi no on/off switch in PC settings

Hi summerbear. I can try something that works on my MSI laptop (a great brand BTW), and I think most of todays' laptops.
Usualy there's an allin1 manager to all of the options you mentioned, and it is accessible through the start line in windows (at the bottom). Most of the time you don't see all the icons of programs running, and there's a little upward arrow in far right side of the start line, that if clicked reveals sound, storage, and allin1 managers installed in your system. In my laptop this manager program that includes control over volume, wi-fi, and bluetooth, is called SCM. I'm not sure that HP's has the exact same program but there's supposed to be some type of allin1. If you don't find any try typing "Bluetooth" in windows search (through the start button), and shutting down wi-fi is also possible by clicking the network bars in the far right, thus accessing the list of nearby wi-fi networks, choosing the one you're connected to, and clicking "disconnect".
Hope I helped, goodluck.
Amit.

If it is a slide switch and you broke off the part that sticks outside the case, you might be able to use a toothpick or other small stiff object to reach through the slot and slide it to the ON position.

If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the Windows 10 upgrade, and wanted to assist you!You can use the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. However, if you are able to get the WiFi and Bluetooth to work, using an external device, then you can continue to use Windows 10.  Keep in mind, that the rollback option is only good for the first 28 days, after installing Windows 10. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Regards!

Aight. I've been having a lot of issues installing my new wireless adapter because Acer is retarded.

I just got a new Intel AC-7260 wifi adapter with bluetooth, and I promptly installed it onto my computer.
-I have all the correct drivers installed
-Launch manager is installed
-The hardware switch is not working anymore, but if I install the old wifi adapter, the switch will still control it
-the wireless adapter is enabled on the OS side, but without a working hardware switch, it will refuse to turn on.
-according to PROSet, the wireless hardware switch is set to 'off', but wifi is on

Anyone know how I can tie the new adapter into the launch manager so I can use the adapter?

This is a big problem for everyone for amateur to professional with Windows 7, we cannot disable the hardware acceleration.

All the buttons are grayed out in dxdiag and Display/Advanced/Troubleshoot.

No way to be able to make a nice desktop recording in W7 32 or 64.

As you can see in my signature, I have an Nvidia 460 GTX. I have scoured the Internet and both ATI and Nvidia drivers cannot be adjusted to disable the acceleration. From what I have gleaned from all the threads out there, Windows 7 and Vista, due to Aero, do not allow users to easily do this...

Who's got the answer?

A:Disable Hardware Acceleration

You might want to try to disable Windows Aero and switch to the Classic Theme.

Then try this (or try this first just to see):

Right-click on desktop and choose Personalize
Click on Display
Click on Change Display Settings
Click Advanced Settings
Click the Troubleshoot Tab
Click Change Settings (if it's not grayed out; mine is)

I have a Gateway FX6800 (http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/FX/FX6800/FX6800mv.shtml) which I have been running for about year and a half. I bought it before windows 7, so it is still running on Vista Premium (64 bit). Apart from this small problem it has been a great computer for me.

However, recently the "Media Control Center" (http://cdnsupport.gateway.com/s/Cases/Joplin/JoplinFX_MediaControlCenter.jpg) Panel (housed in the top drive bay) has been occasionally failing. The entire panel will go blank and a moment later will reconnect. Upon reconnecting the 'new hardware found' sound will play accompanied by a small blip of lag.

At first the problem only occurred very rarely but has recently been occurring daily, and repeatedly. It has become a major source of frustration while trying to watch videos or play games.

I assumed that due to the nature of the issue it is most probably a broken or breaking internal connection. The source itself however, is irrelevant since I never used the damn panel anyway. I just want the lag to stop.

I have tried to find the driver responsible for running this panel but have failed miserably in my attempt. I have also scoured the web and searched for help on the Gateway tech support forums but still my panel problem persists.

Here (http://imgur.com/a/yBRE3) is a set of pictures that shows all of my drivers in my device manager (incl. hidden drivers). Note I did not expand 'Storage Volumes' or 'Storage volume... Read more

A:Disable Hardware Acceleration

I take it this is for a video related problem?

You need to see the 'Display Properties' interface.
Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel, then open the 'Display Properties'
At the top of the interface, click on the 'Settings' tab, then click on 'Advanced' button.
Once that interface opens, click on the tab for 'Performance',you can adjust the hardware acceleration there.

Hi buddy,

Have you already checked the BIOS if you have installed the newest version? If not check this on Toshiba website and make a BIOS update. Maybe it helps?

But I had a similar problem last year and the solution was exchanging the WLAN card.

I think your Tecra S11 should be still under warranty and in such cases the repair would be for free. :)

Hi,

I think I know what I want, but I just wanted to check before I splashed the cash and made the wrong choice!

I have a Humax Freesat recorder and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.

I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.

The one I was looking at was http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004JV42A0/sr=1-1/qid=1325091993/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1325091993&sr=1-1&seller=. This seems very cheap.

Can anyone tell me if this will do what I want & whether there is anything better without spending a fortune?

Many thanks in advance
Tom

The title basically spells it out. I would like to know if leaving my WiFi switch on my laptop on all the time is a bad idea? Would I see any performance hit because my system is constantly looking for a WiFi signal?

A:Is it alright if I leave my Wifi switch on all the time?

I leave my switch on all the time and have never seen any performance hit. It would be mighty inconvenient to keep it switched off, then switch it on everytime I need to use the internet.

And your system is not constantly looking for a wifi signal. Once you've connected to your home network, it would stay connected to that.

Is there a way to turn off 'autodetech new hardware' in Windows 2000/XP?

Next Question: If I disable this 'feature', what are the caveats. For instance, would this also disable the detection of flash drives and other USB devices I plug in.

Is there a way to disable the auto-detection of printers without disabling the detection of other types of devices.

The reason I ask is that I occasionally encounter machines that want to set up the printer (or other hardware) every time the system is turned on, regardless of the fact that it is already set up and has been working fine for months.

Other solutions welcome, too.

And user can access internet only through this particular SSID(HR) and remaing SSIDs are used by other important users. when user comes to us with this issue, we are adding it manually in Network sharing and Center>Manage wireless>Add . when user connects this SSID(HR), it takes windows login ID and password as credentials. there is no issue with other SSIDs.

Have you checked first of all that the wireless switch is enabled on the right hand side? Also go in to the BIOS (F2 on startup) and check that the Wireless Switch is set to "ALL" and the Wireless Device Enable is set to "ALL"
If it is still not turning on, I'd suggest updating the Wireless Driver. Follow this link [View:]

i recently purchased a thinkpad t450s to replace a thinkpad that had been provided my my previous employer.  on the prior thinkpad (i do not recall the model), pressing F8 turned wifi on or off. this was convenient for traveling or to extend battery life. the previous thinkpad ran windows 7. my t450s has the same picture on the F8 key - it looks like a radio tower with a line through it. but it does not seem to affect wifi. instead, it pops open the "action center."  this thinkpad is running windows 10. in general, i expected a single button to turn wifi on/off easily. i'd actually prefer to keep it off most of the time, since i work at home and connect via a cat5 ethernet cable.  right now, i have to dig into settings to turn wifi on or off. did lenovo change the behavior of F8?did windows 10 hijack thinkpad function keys?am i doing something wrong?is there a way to remap the function keys to make them (at least F8) work the way i want them to?

A:disable safely remove hardware icon

Do you not use USB Thumb Drives or camera memory cards in a Reader? That feature is for data protection, keeps one from prematurely removing those type drives which is pretty much guarantee to corrupt either the file Windows or programs is working with or corrupting the whole drive. In comparison to the problems that could be caused having the icon is quite minor.

Hi Vaderag,

You will just need to unplug your webcam, then uninstall the driver in Device Manager in the Control Panel (Classic View). Afterwards, reinstall your driver and then plugin the webcam. Vista should then autodetect it and install the driver for it.

Hope this helps you,

I have succesfully used a Hyper-V virtual switch connected to the wireless adapter in my laptop. All my VM's could access my LAN independently, and could get an ip address from the DHCP server. This means, AFAIK, that my wireless adapter can and does opererate in promiscuous mode.

This worked up to build 10586. Today, I upgraded to build 11102, and this setup no longer works. It appears that wifi adapters are simply not supported with Hyper-V virtual switches. Bummer.

When you try to configure a wifi adapter in a virtual switch, it is not simply grayed out, or otherwise made impossible, but it tries to go ahead and then gives an error message (see attachment)

This does not make sense. There is no other bridge or switch configured.

I found two work-arounds:

- configure the wired ethernet adapter to the virtual switch, and create a bridge connection between the wired and the wifi adapters. For me this does not work, because I get an other error trying to create the bridge connection, which I will report in an other thread.

- use ICS. This works, but has the huge disadvantage of having a NAT layer between the VM's and the rest of my network.

Has anyone experimented with this, too?

Bart

Hi All.

First I need to mention I know Zero about networking.

The short version is How do I Disable WiFi on a years old Dell Inspiron 660?

Long version: Today I was doing some security updates on my Betterhalf's computer, I opened Task Manager for the first time on it. Under the Networking tab I saw the Local Area Connection like I see on my computer, but on top there was a second grid for WiFi!???

I didn't even know her system had WiFi.

Not knowing what to do, I looked at the "Network" icon on the lower left of the screen. Sure enough, I had my choice of four WiFi links.

I then looked at Device Manager under Network Adapters and found:
Dell Wireless 1506 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, and
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

I don't know what else to do, but I figure there has to be an easy way to simply turn it off without just uninstalling it in Device Manager.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

By signing EULA, you have allowed Windows 10 to disable counterfeit games and hardware that are not authorized
According to the Microsoft’s new Services Terms effective August 1st, Microsoft can stop you from using unauthorized hardware or from playing counterfeit games. Microsoft services such as Office 365, Outlook.com, Skype, OneDrive, Xbox Live, MSN, and Bing are also covered by the new services terms.
The terms are also applicable to software using a Microsoft account, which would mean that it would also have an effect on most Windows 10 users. Majority of the users use Microsoft’s latest OS with an account from the Redmond company, even though when they have an option to use it without an account.

I do not have a problem with MS disabling pirate software, BUT, I am the only 1 who decides what hardware is or is not authorised NOT MS.

I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.

Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.

When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool

I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.

OKey here is the plit-> i have a usb modem that i connect into my laptop wihch has wifi n all that now i create an adhoc n/w first on lapi--the xbox detects and connects but still test connection fails(the xbox is unable to connect to the adhoc n/w)
second i tried creating a adhoc n/w on my xbox-->lapi connects to that n/w but still the test conncetion fails on the xbox

I have checked "Allow users to use this n/w" for my USB modem connection which i use to connect to the internet In Properties-->Sharing
But here it asks to select the n/w connection out of 3 options Wireless conn,Wireless conn2,Local Area Conn.
Sometimes it shows only Wileless Conn and LAN
i tried every possible combination of all these settings but nothing is working.
The internet on my laptop works fine.
I am using Win 7 Home Premium.
I just need to connect my Xbox to my laptop wirelessely and use the internet connection my laptop is using.

i tried some manual settings of ip.subnet n dns server on my xbox n lapi, in this case the xbox connects to the network (while connection test) but does not connects to laptop.
HELP guys

I will be keeping the wireless turned off most of the time on my desktop, as I use it for live pro audio. Is there a registry hack to put the switch in there, even if the computer is not a laptop???

A:Show airplane mode switch on wifi menu on desktop computer

Airplane mode: ms-settings:network-airplanemode

Hi, you can use the above when creating a new shortcut, if that's what you need- I'm not sure.
Remember you can access Flight Mode ('Airplane Mode') from the Action Centre (icon in system tray in the taskbar).

Here are some more FYI:

Manage Wi-Fi: ms-settings:network-wifisettings

Mobile hotspot: ms-settings:network-mobilehotspot

Wi-Fi: ms-settings:network-wifi

Hi there,

I have an issue with my wireless connection.
My problem is that the WiFi adapter starts working (WiFi enabled - indicator lights up) even before logon screen shows up. And I don't know how to disable it. I've already checked all windows startups, services...
I have Atheros AR5B93 adapter, tried installing Atheros Client Utility, but the installation failed (don't know why; tried several times). So the adapter is managed by windows and I suppose it may be also affected somehow by Acer Power Smart tech and Launch Manager (by Dritek; it controls Fn key combos - also WiFi) - I have Acer Aspire 4820TG TimeLineX.

Help appreciated

A:How to disable WiFi startup during Windows loading?

Doesn't your laptop have a wireless switch? I have never seen one that didn't. If not, go into the wireless adapter properties and disable it before you shut down.

Every time I connect to my ethernet, windows 7 will NOT disable the wifi. Is it a driver issue or what?

A:Disable Wifi when connect via ethernet in windows 7

I don't think it's a driver issue, but just how windows works. Every laptop I've had does that.

If my computer is not right next to the router and is idle for a while, the wifi connection drops. I have to "Open Network & Sharing Center", "Change adapter settings", disable and re-enable to reconnect. It's not a router issue since all other devices connect just fine.

A:Wifi drops - have to disable then re-enable to connect

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if unchecking the 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' box on the Power Management tab for the wireless card in the device manager, resolves the problem.

The keyboard of my laptop was broken so I cannot use "Fn" key to switch on the laptop's wifi adapter.
I am sure airplane mode has turn off my wifi because there is no light.
I tried to use "fn" of osk but that didn't help..
The last time also happened to me last year, but that time my keyboard still functioning so I able to solve that problem.
But now my keyboard not working, is there any shortcut/application/bat/vbs method to turn on without using keyboard?

@Brink /admin I need to private message you but I cannot see the "PM button" at your profile.
Can you send a private message to me or add my skype (decomodo90) ?

A:After turn off and on airplane mode, wifi had been disable

Hello Decomodo, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Turning on Airplane Mode would indeed also include turning off WiFi.

If you like, the shortcut below may help make it easier for you to turn on/off Airplane Mode.

In addition:

Airplane Mode - Turn On or Off in Windows 8Wi-Fi - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Hope this helps,

Hi, the problem I have is that every time i shutdown and power back on, my Wifi, WLAN and all the USB drivers are not working.

I found all I have to do is disable and then enable the Wifi / WLAN drivers in device manager, to start them working. And I found that If I uninstall all the USB devices in device manager they then reinstall automatically.

But then when I reboot then they are not working again.

I tried a system restore to when the drivers were working but they don't change.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Intel's website, and tried DriverMax which says the drivers are the latest version.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1555. The Wifi / WLAN drivers are Intel.

I've tried searching on google but I haven't come across anyone with this problem. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

A:Wifi, WLAN and USB drivers disable after every reboot

re install the drivers using Dells recommended drivers http://support.dell.com/support/down...nConsent=False
hope this helps you , if you have any problems please post back

A:Wifi Hardware

If it has a WiFi card and a wired NIC you need to select which one you will be using for your network connection in your network config. I am sure there is an applet in either network settings or control panel for configuring this device.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

A:Weak WiFi detection of laptop: will an external wifi adapter...

Dear Customer, In case if your laptop is under warranty, You may call  HP and will replace the Wireless card.Contact HPhttp://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty However you may still use the External WIFI USB Adapters, I would like to share a document which helps how to choose the required Adapters.http://www.howtogeek.com/243330/how-to-choose-a-usb-wi-fi-adapter-for-your-laptop/ After trying you may search the model of the adapter online with Amazon for price details. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee
