Laptop access internet via wifi but not other devices

Q: Laptop access internet via wifi but not other devices

This morning i tried to use other devices (another laptop, a cell phone and an ipad) that were working fine before, but now they don't have internet access. The devices can connect to the router, but internet shows "No internet". I was checking if their were getting the info like ip, dns..etc and they had it so have no clue what's going on. The only 2 things that do not have problems is my laptop and a WDTV Media Player.

I wanted to share my ethernet internet connection over wifi so I have created a wifi hotspot on my laptop using "NETSH" commands in cmd prompt.
I have enabled sharing of ethernet connection by going to ethernet properties>>sharing>>check box (Allow other network users to connect through this computer) but the internet is not being shared.
I have configured other devices with static IPs. Gateway and subnet mask is also correct. I am also using different IPs of the same subnet.
Everything was working fine until perhaps I tried installing Connectify software, I uninstalled it later.
Kindly help to troubleshoot the issue.

Hi all,
I have a rather perplexing problem with internet access from my laptop (Win 7 Home Premium, Avast Free). My property is a large building with thick, granite walls so I've added 3 hard-wired, wireless access points (2 recycled, old routers and a TP-Link WAP) in various locations back to the main router (BT Homehub 3), served by up-to 8Mbps BT broadband service (I typically get 6Mbps - no fibre-broadband available here!) Just to complicate things a little more, this is a holiday property with 4 other families staying, so bandwidth use is a little difficult to control.
Mostly, everyone has been fine: my Android phone, my Nexus tablet and my wife's iPad plus other visitors' various devices all connect via wifi from any of the access points. (Everyone had problems this morning but I think BT may have been doing something with the exchange overnight so I'm going to assume, for now, it's just my laptop that's having problems).
OK, the laptop will connect to any access point, including the main router, but generally states "No internet access" from there. I say "generally" because it has done on past visits to the property and sometimes connects briefly - usually if I reset, disconnect or unplug something. Also, I CAN connect the laptop via Ethernet from any point.
Can someone outline a process I can try to identify and fix the laptop please? If problems recur with other kit I may need help with my local network too.
Thanks,

Hi guys hope you can help,

I am having a problem with the devices on my home wireless network. There is a laptop, desktop, PS3 and an Ipod all of which access the internet through the wireless network, a few days ago however I was unable to connect to the internet with the desktop. It had been fine all day but then I left it and came back to it an hour or so later and was unable to get back online after having tried all the usual restarting of devices. I gave up and went to have a quick game on the ps3 to take my mind off all the work i was now unable to do and found that that too had lost its connection to the internet (also was fine earlier) checked my Ipod touch to see if that had access and neither did that, but in the background the girlfriend was obliviously typing away on facebook or something with no problems at all.

The next day all was well again everything had access to the internet so I just forgot about it and carried on with my life (as you do). However the day after that I had exactly the same thing again, I was using the PS3 online no problems. Girlfriend comes in and turns her laptop on so I disappear onto the PC to do some work and no internet connection again, check the PS3 and Ipod, also no connection only my girlfriends laptop is fine.

So....it seems to me, in my limited wisdom in such matters that, if I turn my desktop on first (before girlfriends laptop) and connect to the internet then all is well, but if she gets to the internet first then thats i... Read more

Dear Friends,

I am encountering strange issue while connecting my laptop to my home wifi router. I have 4 devices connected to router and working perfectly, but my Dell laptop suddenly stopped connecting to internet. It seems to be connected to router, but says No Internet Access. This is new issue, since it was working fine along with other 4 devices in the past.

Tried doing some basic steps, like - Removing the devices from Network Center and adding again, Reset the Router, ipconfig /renew ipconfig /release..but nothing works.

The funny thing is when I do a USB/Wifi Hotspot Tethering using same wifi with my Android phone, the Dell laptop connects to internet.

So, Its clear that Wifi Router is Good, Internet is Good, Laptop Network Card is also good, but something else is wrong. Please help.

OS - Windows 10(The same issue was there in Windows 7 HP before installing Windows 10)

Hi All,

Have tried to figure this out from a few posts here but my situation always ends up different. I have an i-mac that i have no troubles with, it connects via WiFi or a wired connection, with which I am using to post this. I also have a fairly crappy asus netbook with windows xp that i really just want to muck around with. It connects to my wireless network fine with great signal and what not but will not connect to the internet.

What I have tried : going into command prompt to ping. I can ping my computers IP address with no problems (not sure if this even means anything just saw it on another post) but there is no Default Gateway displayed when i >IPCONFIG /ALL. Im wondering if this may have something to do with it as I saw a suggestion to PING the default gateway in another post.

dont know if im heading in the right direction or not? any help from anyone that knows what they're doing would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi everybody!

I would be happy if anybody could help me solve my network connection problems. I am trying to connect my laptop to internet via wireless router and modem. It successfully connected to router there is no internet access. I have tried wire connection directly to the modem, and it worked. I also know the wireless router is working fine due to we have phones that wirelessly connected to the router, and they are also getting internet access.

Please help!

A:Laptop wifi connected to router but no internet access

I would firstly, double check security and you typed your passkey in right.. sounds dumb but has fixed many peoples errors. Also make sure you didn't block your MAC Adrees.

If still no go, turn off the router security then try to connect.

If no go try updating the drivers.

If still no go then we got issues.

My home computer will connect fine to the internet, as will my iPhone and my family's androids. And just yesterday, my laptop was working fine when I wanted to use the internet. Last night, I was on YouTube, when my internet just started failing. So I opened Steam, then Skype. Neither worked. So I just shut it off for the night hoping it'd fix itself. It hasn't. I tried one suggestion of changing my router time, that didn't help. I also tried simply restarting my router. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Okay, so I moved my wireless router to a more central location in my house (I got low signal in my room) and since then I've been able to connect to the network but only with limited access. Trying to connect to a webpage results in the "DNS lookup failed" error message (Chrome). My brother's computer had had the same issue, and the PlayStation 3 has had connectivity issues also, however I have been able to use my phone with the WiFi without any issues.

I've tried unplugging/turning the router on and off to no effect. Using a different router does not change the situation either. When I try to diagnose the network connection, it says that it could not identify the problem. Any ideas?

Some information:

Both computers run Windows 8
My phone is a Nokia Lumia 620 running WP8
The WiFi status window states that IPv4 and IPv6 have no internet access
My computer uses a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 wireless network adapter and says it is working correctly. The adapter is set to work with IPv4/6. IPv4 is set to obtain IP & DNS addresses automatically.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If your only email accounts are free (Hotmail, gmail, etc.) try this direct link. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

About a week ago, my laptop just stopped connecting to my wifi. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 (64-bit). I've had this laptop for about four years, if I'm not mistaken, and I have never had problems such as this before. It can detect neighboring connections, but it just doesn't detect my personal wifi. The router/modem is not the problem because I can connect to them with my other devices just fine (Samsung Galaxy S3/S4). I am able to connect via Ethernet cable, but of course this is a terrible inconvenience. Cuddling my router is not something I feel I'd want to do just to get some work done.

I have tried:
- restarting my router (Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router model WNDR3400)
- restarting my laptop
- system restore
- uninstalling and reinstalling wireless drivers (originally was Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN, when reinstalled it changed to Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000)
- changed router settings (router channel, password/security options)
- manually connecting through Control Panel (SSID is not set to be hidden, but still couldn't be found)
- troubleshooting (nothing was found)
- updating basically everything (router firmware, drivers, software, etc.,)

Long story short, none of this worked. I feel as though I have tried everything I could find within multiple forums and endless internet surfing, but I am simply out of ideas at this point.
The connection on my other devices is slow, but they connect nonetheless.

I got a new DSL connection in my apartment today. Router was set up fine and most devices are working (my iPhone, my friend's laptop and my old laptop). However I can't seem to connect to WIFI with my primary laptop (Windows 7).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network drivers.

I tried turning off the router and turning on again.

I also tried resetting the TCP/IP stack with "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" and restarting. (Not entirely sure what that does but I read it somewhere). No improvement.

I can provide two ipconfig logs. The first one is from my old laptop which is successfully connected to the WIFI network:

Hello,

My laptop (an HP Pavilion dv5 using Windows 7) won't connect to my home wifi. Both my iphone and my ipad does without any problems. I've tried removing the wifi network from my laptop and adding it again. When I type in my password for the wifi it tells me there's a key mismatch although I'm 100% certain the password is correct. I kept typing it in and eventually it just tells me it cannot connect to my laptop.

I tried a system restore but my laptop wasn't able to complete it. It told me the restore failed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi;
Purchased a new HP Compaq laptop that's internal wireless (Intel 802.11a/b/g) capable.
I want to improve the wireless performance, particularly using hotspots where the built-in
antennas are presumably somewhat limited. Would appreciate some suggestions as to the most mobile and effective way to improve/increase signal strength/reception. I've seen everything from external antennas and amplifiers to external devices with their own cards like cantennas, etc. I've seen extenal usb antennas that claim 6db signal increases all the way up to 28db increases involving the installation of an exterior high gain amp and antenna (which is hardly portable). I'm just looking for the most portable/mobile and affordable device for increasing hotspot signal strength- Many thanks in advance for any and all replies-

So this has been going on for a few months. I have an HP DV6-7029wm laptop that will only get around 3.3Mbps over wifi. I have Uverse with the 20Mbps plan. Now here is what I have tried and nothing has fixed it.

Had Win 8.1 - Did fresh install to Win 7
Have tried 3 different versions of the Atheros 9485 Chipset Driver
Have swapped wifi adapters from daughters laptop
Disabled wifi security
Turned off Windows Firewall
AT&T swapped out my old gateway for the newest one they have

Now thinking it might be issues between my laptop and uverse gateway, I setup a Hotspot on my Galaxy S5 and used my phones LTE connection and was still only getting around 3.3Mbps. Now my phone will pull upwards of 25Mbps on LTE and the full 20 on my UVerse wifi.

Now the one that confuses me is I have a Cisco USB wifi adapter that I tried. And even with the USB adapter Im still only getting 3.3Mbps.

Any Ideas?

Hello all. Here is my set up. I have 1.5M internet service coming into my CradlePoint CTR35 wireless router. The two devices I have are my desktop, and an iPad. When doing a speed test at speedtest.net, I find that my desktop running windows 7 gets about 1.45, and my iPad is only pulling 1.36M. I realize that isn't a big deal, but why would there be a varience between the devices? Shouldn't they be able to test out the same?

A:WIFI internet speed varience between devices

The Operating System parameter settings that determine data transfer rates are slightly different on the two machines. Differences between computers on the same LAN are normal.

With many older OS's and probably the one on your iPad these values are permanently set in the registry. They are just general values that will usually give a good data rate. Sometimes these values can be changed to improve the flow.

Starting with Vista and Windows 7, the OS actually monitored the data flow and could change some of the values to improve it.

I have two XP desktops, a Vista desktop and a Vista laptop. All will show slightly different results on speed tests to the same server.

The two XP's have the same values for all their changable settings, but one always tests about 0.04 M higher than the other.

Strangest thing happened today. A couple of my devices quit working on my wifi. I'll start with what I have.
Dell inspiron 620 Desktop: Works on wifi and internet
iPad: works on wifi, but doesn't access the internet
HP Laptop: Accesses wifi, but no internet

Everything was working fine this morning. Sometime today, my iPad couldn't access the internet. Naturally, I figured the internet was down, or my modem needed rebooted. I rebooted both my modem and my router. Still no internet on my iPad. Contacted the internet provider, and they said the internet is working fine on their end. Noticed after that, my Desktop is working fine. Went back to my iPad and went into the settings and did a "forget network", and logged back onto my network. Logs in, but no internet. Tried switching to my "guest network", no internet. I can log onto my router via my iPad, and it is showing internet connection, and the clients that are on my network. Later on, I decided to fire up my work Laptop, which was working this morning, and it also can access my network, but no internet connection. I then came back to my desktop and opened my browser and went to my router page. On my desktop, I get a message:

DISCLAIMER: This is my first post so I apologize for any mistakes I make.

Hello all,

Yesterday morning upon waking up I discovered that the Wifi in my house was no longer working. It had worked fine the day before but stopped working completely overnight. At first I thought it might have been Charter Communications (My ISP) throttling the internet due to our bandwidth (My Mom watches a TON of Netflix). But the internet works fine with our two home desktops. It is the same connection but devices such as my iPhone 4, Nexus 7, iPad 3, iPhone 5, etc. are unable to get internet access. They are able to connect to the wifi and you are able to see the bars, but when trying to connect to the internet you get a network error message.

To try to fix this problem I ran measurmentlab (test for throttling), my virus scan (McAfee), and malwarebytes. I was unable to see any noticeable change in my problem.

I am hoping someone might know what I am doing wrong, but I haven't been able to find a thread that has helped me out thus far.

Thanks for reading, Nick

If the computer is running Windows ...

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello, I'm seeking assistance to get connected with my pc to the Internet as I need it for work.. All of a sudden it has lost it's connection and when I run windows network diagnostics it reports

All my wifi devices work as normal.

I have tried several reboots of the router and changed the LAN cables around but no difference.

Any help much appreciated.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. My laptop suddenly stopped connecting to the wifi network (comcast) last night. Interestingly my lenovo tablet, mobile phone and another laptop are able to connect to my wifi network without any issues.

I have also tried the following steps to troubleshoot:
1. switching off the router for 30 secs
2. Resetting the router
4. Restarting the computer
5. Releasing the ip and disconnecting the computer from the network followed by a reconnect.
6. Manually attempting to connect to the wifi network

Note: Interestingly I was able to connect to a neighbor's unsecured wifi network so I am presuming the wireless adapter is working.

I have run out of ideas on how to trouble shoot this further. could any one kindly help ? I have pasted below the windows Network Diagnostics report

Hey guys, I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my wireless connection on my W7 laptop and was hoping for some troubleshooting tips.

First off, here are the relevant specs:

- HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop computer (Windows 7 Ultimate)
- Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (Network adapter)
- Speedstream 6520 (Wireless DSL router)

Recently, I've been experiencing a problem where my wireless Internet connection randomly goes from "Internet access" status to "No Internet access" status. Sometimes it also goes to "Limited access". The (!) yellow exclamation point shows up on the wireless icon in the right-hand taskbar corner.

I can fix this temporarily by turning the wireless switch off and back on again (I have a physical switch on my laptop), which brings back the Internet access. But after about 15 minutes give or take, the connection fails again. It is an extremely frustrating occurrence that now happens every 15 minutes without fail.

Things that might be causing this:
- Recently changed my SSID
- Recently disabled SSID broadcast to prevent neighbors from seeking out my connection

Things I've done to try fixing the problem that have not worked:
- Changing SSID again
- Enabling SSID broadcast
- Changing the router's channel (I've tried channels 11, 10, 6, 2)
- Checking the power setting on my network adapter to make sure it wasn't shutting off on low power
Any help? Thanks a lot in advance, guys. By the way, I also have an Ethernet-linked des... Read more

A:Random "No Internet access" problem on WiFi laptop

N series can often do some pretty strange things. One thing I see happen is the card will latch at 300Mbps but it is meant for 150Mbps so obviously it won't see the router. Look to see what speed it is reporting it has latched at. The other is if you don't have IPV6 addresses working then disable the IPV6 component of your nic in the Control Panel settings for the Network Card.

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

Hey there,

Have been having this problem for a while. I'll try to make a long story short. I'm on a personal build computer running x58 chipset. Originally installed Windows 7. Have upgraded to 8, 8.1, 10, and then 10 anniversary addition.

The problems started once I upgraded to Windows 10.

When the computer goes idle for the day (leave for work, come home later in the day) the desktop, which is connected via ethernet, has lost it's connection and will only come back after a reboot. Troubleshooting doesn't work, and trying to disable and re-enable the NIC card doesn't work.

Once the desktop loses its connection, every device that is connected via wifi will show that it is connected, but will not load anything. As soon as I reboot the desktop, everything works fine. I DO NOT need to reboot the modem or router.

I have searched over and over and over, and have determined it is not a modem problem(comcast eMTA, in bridge mode), or a router problem (Asus RT-AC68P) so it must be a driver problem for my NIC card. I cannot for the life of me find a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 windows 10 supported driver to see if that is the issue. Maybe there are settings in the NIC card properties I need to change?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi All,

My laptop (running Win7 Home Premium & wireless) can see my desktop unit & my NAS (both hard-wired), but when I try to access them, for the desktop I get the error message "Cannot access <name>, check spelling and try again". The spelling and capitalization is correct and the network troubleshooter is at a loss. However, my desktop can see & access the laptop. With the NAS, if I click on the device, it opens the configuration webpage. Another laptop in the house has no problems connecting to the desktop & NAS. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

you might need to deactivate your firewall for a while and try connecting, if it didn't help, keep it deactivated (disabled) and Check Advanced Settings.(it's prefered to be offline cuz having internet connection while no firewall enabled is not a good idea):

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

Hello everyone,

I'm fairly good with comptuers / networking but this issue has me baffled. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a linksys router (WRK54G) and have 2 desktops and 2 laptops connected to it wirelessly at the moment. I bought 3 smart phones (AT&T Tilts) and a new laptop recently. I don't use encryption but I do have MAC address filtering enabled.

The issue is that 1 of the smart phones can connect to the network and the internet, but the other 2 phones and the laptop can connect to the network but not the internet.

I did add their MAC addresses to the "allow" list ofcourse, which is why they're able to connect to the network. DHCP is enabled, and these devices get an IP address. I can see them as connected when i log in to my router as well through one of my other computers (I see the MAC address and the IP assigned to those devices) so I know they're properly connected to the network. However, when i try to pull up a website (using either its ip or its domain name), the devices try to open up the page but eventually give me a "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost" on the pocket PCs, and a generic "page cannot be found" on the laptop. I don't see these requests in the outgoing log table of the router either... I'm supposed to see them as when i use one of my desktops, I can see which site was accessed by which IP.

So basically, the requests from 2 smart... Read more

I'm getting the "no internet access" error on all devices at home (mobile, all laptops), so I highly doubt it has anything to do with my computer settings. It shows as connected but with the yellow triangle with exclamation mark. I've already tried:

- Restarting computer
- Unplug + plug modem
- Unplug + plug router

The ethernet works fine (using it right now for this post), so I'm assuming it's something wrong with router?

On the router, there are 5 slots for cables, 1, 2 (ethernet), 3 (ethernet), 4, and "internet". 1 and 3 has green lights, the rest have no lights.
On modem, besides power icon,  the "internet" and "WANLink" lights are green, "wireless", "TV", "HPNA" and "WPS" are not lit.

Anyone know what else I should try?

Thanks.

Hi there.
I am using my phones 3G to type this and it's a real nuisance since I cannot research information for essays and other important aspects that I need when studying for my A levels.

Anyway, it started last night around 11pm, everything died and I thought it was because of the bad weather.
I woke up to sunshine however the internet was still not working.

The router is a SuperHub 2 and it had no problems up till now, the lights for 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz are flashing and so are the other lights on the router - this the router is working.

The problem is the connectivity, I use my laptop, iPhone and computer all together when studying and playing games. All of which has the same problem. All have the 5 bars connectivity however they all say "no internet access" and no response from the DNS servers.

What is the problem then?

What I've done:
- I have release and renewed the IPs
- reset router numerous times
- turned on: off router numerous times
- fiddled with wires to make sure they're plugged in.
- turned on and off computers and laptops.
- set IvP4 to automatic.
- waited hours.
- went onto the Virgin Media router page via 192.168.0.X. Then I started the router up in factory status, starting I up a few times.

How do I fix this nuisance? I need the internet now, for work purposes.
Please help, since it's affecting me and my family members and all of our devices.

A:No internet access on multiple devices

Does the Virgin Media router page give you a status of the WAN?

We had a bad storm last week and it took a few days after power was restored for Comcast to repair their lines.

I was able to get to my router, but the WAN address was 0.0.0.0 - can't get there from here!

If you have a WAN address, turn everything off (no power) then
power up your cable modem, wait a few minutes for it to cycle through what it cycles through
power up your router (if seperate) wait for it to cycle through what it cycles through
finally power up your machine and check the network status on the Virgin Media router

If you don't have a WAN address, report the outage to your provider. They probably already know about your area, but a call never hurts.

It is possible the DHCP server on your router is stopped if you don't get an IP address when it is set to automatic.

Hi, I've been having a problem for a week or so, where my internet will drop and become "limited" on certain devices, I own two laptops 1 on W7 and 1 on W8 and a Blackberry (this will never drop connection unless the router gets reset) The two laptops experience "limited" it is not linked to doing one specific thing when it stops working. if I click disconnect and then connect it USUALLY will come back instantly sometimes have to do it about 2 or 3 times, this is extremely irritating while watching shows or downloading because if I don't disconnect and re connect it will stay on "limited" for however long until I dis&re connect. This doesn't happen to my laptops at the same time, meaning that isn't likely a router problem (BB is always connected) I'm actually surprised that it has actually stayed connected this long.

I was reading a similar thread, and it didn't solve my problem but I did attach the cmd and xirrus.

noted: Casa is the personal internet for us and "instantlawns" is for my roommates' business. also my other roommates' internet does a similar thing where it goes limited but nowhere nearly as often as mine.

Hello,

I have moved into a new apartment and my laptop connects to the wi-fi network but there is no internet access. The apartment is on a school if that makes a difference, I'm not using a home router. My Mac, tablet, phone etc all connect to the same network without any issues. The connection to the network works fine via an ethernet cable but I no longer have access to the port to connect this way.

I have tried going to cmd prompt to type:
"ipconfig/release" and then "ipconfig/renew" to no avail.

I have also tried the following commands with no resolution to the problem:
ipconfig/flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset

I have uninstalled my third-party firewall and tried selective start-up and no dice there either. I have also made sure that the IP and DNS address are obtained automatically.

Anything I can post here so someone can identify the problem please?

Thanks

I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.

I having done a little troubleshooting.

1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.

2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.

3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.

This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could help as I have spend hours scouring forums and trying fixes with no luck..

I have recently started getting the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point on my network access system tray icon.

My internet is fine as all other devices (pc, iPad, I phone, Android phone & ps3) all connect perfectly to the internet.

If I disconnect or run the network troubleshooter my computer connects for anything between 30 seconds and 5 minutes before telling me no internet access. Network Diagnostics tells me the default gateway is not available and has fixed it but only for a few moments.

I am using an Edimax EW-7622UMn wireless network adaptor for which I have installed and uninstalled and reinstalled and updated drivers.

I have performed a clean boot and am getting the same issues. I don't have any other connections configured on my pc that could be conflicting.

Please, does anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7. I have been using Time Warner Internet. It worked fine until yesterday. WiFi stopped working out of the blue. When I tried, wired connection works pretty well. I do not recall any significant changes to my computer while this happened. So now I can connect to the wifi hotspot but it says "No Internet Connection". When I connect the LAN wire with the WiFi router, internet works. The moment I remove it, it says No Internet Access, although computer is connected to the hotspot and signal is very well.

The drivers are being shown as up to date in device manager.

I tried following instructions given here: http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-Winsock-and-TCP/IP
This didn't work. Problem persists.

Hi All,
I have established a Virtual Wifi Miniport and would like to share my laptops internet via the Miniport. Whenever I connect my android phone with this access point, it works perfectly for a few minutes and then all of a sudden there is no internet on the phone. The phone remains connected to the laptop hotspot but the internet access is no more there. Now at this point if I disconnect the connection between my phone and the hotspot and then again try to reconnect back again, it wont even connect. The phone will keep on searching and shows connecting status but can never connect. I have tried all sorts of softwares connectify, virtual router, intel mywifi and even tried to create a hotspot from the cmd using netsh command. All the hotspots work in the exact same way intially works perfect but maybe after half an hour internet is gone. I have completed all the steps properly even changed the settings in the laptop adapter with interet access to allow other networks to connect but nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 7 Machine and my wireless adapter is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless N-100 and the drivers are up to date according to windows. I know that its a problem with my laptop/OS or something because my android phone can connect and remain connected( without losing internet ) to the connectify hotspot in my wifi enabled desktop PC.I am breaking my head over this for the past 15 days even formatted my system once but no use. I have 2 laptops, an ipad, and 2 smart phones using a dlink router. All devices connect to the router beautifully but will not access the Internet.
Both laptops will access the internet when hardwired to the modem via Ethernet cable.
Rebooted the modem, rest the router, still no connection.
Reset router and one laptop can access the Internet. The other one can't.
ipad and 2 smart phones will not access the Internet even after the reboot of both the modem and router.

It would seem that one laptop at a time can access the Internet through the router with a lot of rebooting and resetting of the router.

I spent a long while on the phone with my Internet Provider and they were no help.
Any suggestions sure would be appreciated.

This is a new problem as all devices have formerly worked great.

Last week I tried to install a new router that was given to me that had 802.11n (currently only have b and g) however after alot of fiddling I realised the router was for cabled internet and we have adsl so it wasn't compatible. It popped the old router back with all the same settings and everything was fine for a few days....

Then after no apparent reason my laptop decided to have painfully slow internet (measured at 0.06mbps...). I don't understand because other laptops, phones and an iPad that use the wifi and one wired PC are all working fine.

At first whenever I would turn the laptop on and it would connect to the Wifi it would kill the internet for the other wireless devices. I could only regain the internet on these devices if I turned them off and then reset the router and then turned them back on when the router had reset itself.

After doing a bit of reading on here I tried to see if changing the secruity from WPA2 to WPA-TKIP would help. With WPA now enabled it now no longer means that the Internet gets killed on other devices once the laptop connects. But the internet on them does become slower. The internet on the laptop improves sliiiiightly (with WPA) but is still not at the speed it was at previous to it messing up.

I have also tried, cleaning up the laptop, disk defragmentation, looking for faults with the wifi adapter (it says there are none), restoring the laptop to a time when it worked....

Hey everyone, sorry if this is in wrong area.

So today I bought a secondhand computer. It's a Toshiba Satelite L875D-S7230.

When I connect it to my home wifi it connects no problem and says 'internet access' when I hover over the icon. However when I open open google chrome or internet explorer and type in a site, it takes a little while then says this page cannot be displayed or this web page is unavailable.

The guy I bought it from says he had no issues. And I know it's not the internet because I'm using the internet to post this from phone.
I've tried a few ideas that worked for other people on other forums like using cmd box but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea why the computer is being such a turd?? Can anyway give advice on how to fix the problem? Thank you all so much!

hi, recently, i just changed my laptop's OS to Windows 8 from Vista. My laptop is Compaq Presario F700 and it was originally Vista. But somehow, my laptop cannot access WiFi anymore so right now im using our PC. Also, when i go to PC Settings-->Wireless it says that "No wireless devices are available". I tried downloading a wireless LAN driver in this site: [Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 | HP? Support] since Compaq is also from the Hewlett-Packard Company(hp).
but after installing it, nothing changed. what should i do? i don't know much about computers so if there are infos you want to know, just ask me since i don't know what infos i should provide.
thanks in advance though. ^^

Is the wifi switch on? do you see an image of an antenna lit up in blue?

If not look for a button or switch that says wifi or has an image of an antenna..

And turn it on..

I am having an issue that has been an on and off problem for the past month. I currently am using a browser called torch which is a chrome style browser. But my main browser is firefox. Whenever firefox is open I cannot browse the web and when I try web pages do not load on any browser that I try to use, although I am able to use both ipads that are in the house and any applications/programs works fine with the internet. But ones I close firefox all other web browsers on my laptop work fine. What could potentially cause this and what other details could I include that would be more helpful to you guys thanks in advance I have already attempted to restart my modem several times.

A:internet does not work on laptop but works on other devices

This may be a conflict between browsers, but first: have you updated Firefox recently? Or do you have it set to update automatically?

This might help, it's from FF Help pages:
Fix slowness, crashing, error messages and other problems | Firefox Help

Scroll down to "Fix problems connecting to Websites after updating Firefox."

Using the FF Help can give you great assistance. (Menu Bar, top left in FF, click "Help".)

I have two laptops, a tablet and smartphone which are all connected to my home wireless. When I use my laptop (Acer - Windows 7), the internet runs really slow and web pages keep timing out. This happens whether I use Chrome or Firefox. The internet also stops working completely on all other devices. As soon as I shut down the Acer laptop, the internet works on the other devices fine.
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded Bit Torrent software on the Acer laptop and this is when the problem started so I unistalled the software after a couple of days. I had McAfee antivirus software and Malwarebytes anti-malware at the time. I have unistalled McAfee and installed Avast Antivirus today and run full system scans with both Avast and Malwarebytes and they are not detecting anything.
The hard drive on my laptop is fully defragmented and has plenty of memory available. I also had Hola VPN add-on installed but I have unistalled this today too and this hasn't helped the problem. I recently installed Google Drive backup but have limited both the upload and download speed to 100kbps so I don't think this could be causing the problem.
I've tried restarting the laptop, resetting the modem and connecting to the internet via ethernet cable and none of these help either.
Any ideas of what else I could try? My husband and I both work online so need to use both laptops so this is really messing us up! Thanks in advance for any advice.

A:Laptop is stopping internet from working on all devices

Hello, and welcome

I would reset Winsock and TCP/IP. Type CMD in the search box and right click > Run as Administrator. Type the following commands.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
I would also open Windows Firewall and remove any program you do not want connecting to the internet.

I tried connecting it directly with an ethernet cable and it still didn't get internet. I've also tried turning off any firewalls. Any help would be most appreciated.

Details...

Brand new Dell Vostro 2420 with 7 Home Premium gets a DHCP address from my Comcast router but I cannot ping the router, DNS/DCHP server or a WAN addresses.
All drivers are up to date. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all network drivers
I've assigned a static IP, no luck
Ran Windows Updates
I disabled Windows firewall
I have MSE for anti-virus, I disabled that as well
System restore isn't an option since the machine is brand new
Booted into Safe Mode, problem exists there as well
Internet access works fine when connected with an Ethernet cable
Wifi adapter is Dell Wireless 1704 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz

Time to just reinstall Windows?

A:Brand new laptop (7-HP) wifi gets IP but no LAN/WAN access

Comcast does not supply Routers. They only supply Modems and there is NO WiFi in any Cable Modem. At least that is how it is on my Comcast connection and I supplied my own modem and router.

You need a Real Router with WiFi as what you are doing now is getting a Public IP address from the Modem when the system is Wired to the modem.

So run out and buy a router. While you are out shut the modem down, power it off. When you get back with your WiFi Router connect your PC to it, without connecting it to the modem, and go into the setup system and assign a different Logon password to the main section of the router and then the WiFi section and put in a SSID and password for the WiFi. Once all that is done then connect the router to the modem and power the modem up. The WAN/Internet port of the router will get the Comcast assign Public IP and your PC will get a Private IP address from the routers DHCP server. Whether it is connected by wire or WiFi.

As far as I know there is not much support for the configuration you are trying to set up although I would think the best chance is using the Virtual Router software or the directions in the link> http://lifehacker.com/5369381/turn-y...reless-hotspot

It may require using static IP's on the IPv4 properties interface but some experimenting may be required.

So as of last night, my laptop has been having connection issues using the same wi-fi that I've been using for months.
My internet is part of my rent with the building I live in, but have never had an issue before this.

Most* websites will load instantly, or within a second, unless there are images or videos on the page.
However, all videos, images, and online games are nearly unresponsive. Videos on youtube immediately drop to the lowest quality, and will take a very long time to load fully (up to 30 minutes for a 5 minute video). Images also load incredibly slowly.
I've tried to do a speed test, but the test fails after the ping check due to lack of a connection.

All my other devices are perfectly fine, including phone, tablet, multiple gaming systems. Netflix on my PS3 also has absolutely no issues loading quickly with high quality. My friend's laptop, when using the same connection, seems to have full and proper speeds.

I've looked around on this forum at similar posts, and have already re-installed my wireless drivers. The problem persists.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Speedtest finally worked

I have a modem/router that let's me access internet in a laptop or cellphone through wifi but in PC connected directly to network there seems to be a DNS issue or something that loads a page 1 out of 100 times and getting worse every day until no page will load for hours or take a huge time to load. Tried a lot of methods but none made a difference. flushdns and other commands, winsockspfix, edited and changed registry keys winsock and winsock2 with ''correct" ones. Rebooted modem but issue is on PC only and perfect on wifi as a matter of fact i'm on the Wifi connection at this time. Im new at techguy so sorry if there is any mistake with this post.

There are our laptops being used in this house, one of which (Dell Inspiron) won't connect to the WiFi. It also has a habit of shutting down. There is no WiFi problem with the other three. I have tried Googling the problem but nothing of much use was found.

Help would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

A:Can't access WiFi or internet. Help please.

Really silly question - but the wi-fi on this Inspiron is enabled ?  Surprising how often the obvious gets overlooked.

Go into 'Device Manager' and look for any yellow exclamation marks against your wi-fi adapter - click 'Start - RIGHT click on 'Computer' - click 'Properties' - click Device manager in the top left hand corner'. You will see an item 'Network adapters' with a + beside it. Click on the '+' to expand it and you should see your wi-fi adapter listed. If it has any sort of mark against it, double click on it and see if you can find any info on the problem. In any case, make a note of the maker and model. Problems in this area are usually caused by the drivers. Uninstall the drivers for it, and on another computer, go to the Dell web-site and download the wi-fi drivers for your Inspiron, copy them to some convenient location on the faulty computer then install them. Re-boot, and with any luck your wi-fi will be working again.

It is possible that the wi-fi unit itself has failed. If it is not physically built into the motherboard it may be possible to replace it with a new one. But the simplest and cheapest solution I have found is to use an external USB wi-fi dongle. These are widely available and fairly cheap, starting at under £UK 20 and going up.

Hello,

I let my friend borrow my laptop for the past couple of days and when he returned it to me, she told me that the Internet stopped working. After taking a look at it for the last couple of days, I'm pretty confident that it's a virus of some kind. These are some of the details I've uncovered by browsing around the Control Panel, Command Prompt, and Task Manager.

1. "ipconfig" only shows 3 lines of information
            - Tunnel adapter 6TO4 Adapter
            - Media State . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
            - Connection-specific DNS Suffix .

2. Going to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections, if I right-click my wireless network connection and click status and then details...the pop-up window is completely blank.

3. Opening Task Manager then going to the Networking tab shows only "No Active Network Adapters Found."

4. My Panda Antivirus, I believe, has been disabled. I cannot get the window to pop up at all.

5. Going to Device Manager and enabling "Show hidden devices", the following has the yellow '!' caution symbol under non plug-and-play drivers (NNSAlpc, NNSHttp, NNSids, NNSPicc, NNSPop3, NNSProt, NNSPrv, NNSSmtp, NNSStrm, NNSTlsc, PSINAflt, PSINKnc, PSINProt). First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

I proceedes to delete and elimate it using bleepingcomputer guide. Afterward I check my pc and the internet still doesnt work even though im connect and have internet access. Now Im really frustated.

A:Intermittent WiFi access to Internet

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from Dell's web site.

Make sure you have the latest router firmware; then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

Our internet connection was working fine until one day, we cannot connect anymore. I tried using the ethernet cable directly from the modem and it was working fine so I thought our Belkin N150 wireless router was the culprit. I decided to buy another one, Linksys E1500 but we had the same problem. Our 2 laptops and phones can detect/connect the wifi connection but cannot access the internet. It's really frustrating already.

Hi guys,

Bought my new Sony Vaio today that of course came with Windows 8. I have completed the setup and installed Norton 360 and Office and tried (unsuccessfully) to uninstall McAfee. Now when i boot up the computer the WI-FI connects (with a full, four bar connection) however, when i try and open IE or the store, I get a connection issue saying there is no internet access.

I am using the same Wi-fi network to post this on this forum, so it seems the issue must be on the Vaio side, what do you guys suggest?

A:WIFI Connected but no internet access

Can you connect by ethernet?

Why can't you uninstall McAfee? Did it get all tangled up with Norton? Tried the McAfee Removal Tool?

If/when you need to uninstall Norton Symantec has the Norton Removal Tool.

Hi guys, I have this problem that's been giving me a headache these days... I have a Dell XPS L502x with Intel centrino n6230 in tow.
Well, the laptop was working fine and all but started to have this weird connection drops in my work now and then, I blamed the router. Then it started loosing connection in my home too, it shows that the WiFi is connected and when I hover over the WiFi icon it says "internet access" but whenever I tried to access a webpage it won't connect... I blamed the network adapter and tried reinstalling and reinstalling the drivers and changing settings but none of it worked.
It literally is driving me crazy, but before I refresh the system I wanted to see if you guys can help me out!
Thanks in advance

A:HELP! WiFi connected but cannot access internet!

If you really do have internet access you should be able to ping a DNS server located somewhere outside your network. open a command prompt, Start > run > enter "cmd" and hit enter. type in "ping 8.8.8.8" if you get a response in replies you know that its technically working and connected to the internet.

The wireless dropping out may be a completely different problem but there is a Group Policy setting to enable both connections at start up.

Windows doesn't typically use both connections at once and it defaults to the faster connection if both are enabled which is usually Ethernet connection, but if you want the wireless to connect automatically at boot up and stay connected with the Ethernet connection there is setting you need to disable in Group Policy.

Go to start/run type in gpedit.msc. Navigate to the following location

Administrative templates/Network/Windows Connection Manager . The setting Minimize the number of simultaneous connections to the internet.

For more than one connection to stay connected reliably this setting needs to be disabled.

I've been using this Policy to test wireless signals with my Ethernet connected and it does work so that both connections are enabled at start up and they both stay up.

I had to connect the wireless manually on start up most of the time before I changed this setting.

If the wireless issue persists, then please to install InSSIDer from the link and post the results here so I can take a look at the wireless landscape in your area.

I use a laptop and recently the wifi has stopped working for me. I can still connect completely but it says with "limited access," which results in me being unable to access the internet at all. The rest of the computers in the house work fine on the wifi and I double-checked the securtiy settings (WAP2 and all that) and it seems fine. What can I do? Tethering to my phone allows me to get on the internet and the computer connects successfully, but no websites will load whatsoever.

My situation is a little bit hard to explain but I'll try to tell you the best I can; about 3 days ago my father cut the power to the house too replace a bathroom light without getting electrocuted. Ever since then my laptop has been playing up in all sorts of ways, most notably the poor internet connection (hence why I put this thread in the network area because I'm not too sure what's going on with it at all).

To sum up it's problems quickly: certain things tend to take a lot of time on it. Plugging in memory sticks, opening up new Windows, even the Internet. I do know that it isn't my family's wifi that is the problem, all our other devices work and my laptop has the same trouble with my school's Internet (also because it isn't only my wifi being effected). I also know that it's not memory or CPU related.

It pretty much turned from a pretty decent laptop of it's age to the slowest computer in the world within an hour.

Anyone what the problem is, or do I need to give anymore detail?

A:Limited access to wifi and more for unknown reason (laptop)

Ok, now the Internet has fully stopped working and some apps crash when opened.

Apologies if this has been addressed already but I haven't been able to find a post with this particular issue.

Here's the background information:
I have a Dell Vostro 3750 notebook which I upgraded from Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 using a Windows 10 "1511" build DVD. The upgrade was successful and I only had to reinstall one application. Since I have a network-attached disk, I use an Asus USB AC56 adapter connected to one of my USB3 ports for my WiFi instead of the built-in WiFi. This notebook is also used by other members of my family so I have a local administrator account and local standard user accounts for daily use. The WiFi is connecting to a Netgear R7000 router on the 5 GHz band (802.11ac).

Now the issue:
What often happens when the machine is booted, rebooted, or wakes from sleep is that the WiFi is enabled but the network shows "No Internet". All I have to do to get the Internet back is to unplug the WiFi adapter from the USB3 port and plug it back in, or go into the WiFi app to disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi network.

I have tried the following:
1) installed the latest USB AC56 drivers from the Asus website
2) edited the WiFi adapter properties to prevent Windows from turning off the device to conserve power.
3) tried using a different USB3 port (I believe the 2 USB3 ports are connected to different controllers).

There is no VPN software installed, but I do have VMWare Player 12.1 installed.

This isn't a huge issue since it is easy ... Read more
