No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate

Q: No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate

I am really hoping if someone could help me with this issue that I am facing ever since I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit).
I was using Windows XP Home edition prior to this.
After the installation of Windows 7, I saw in the Device Manager under the section "Sound" : Multimedia Audio Controller. This also had a yellow exclamation mark.

On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, if I click on the speaker icon (It has a red cross on it), it says "No audio devices are installed".

I have integrated sound card.

Can someone please tell me how to check what sound drivers I need and from where to install it?

I would really appreciate the help.

You find your driver at the mfgr's website.

Tell us what hardware you have and we can be helpful.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Toshiba Portege M500. However there is no audio came out although in the device manager it worked properly.

I have installed realtek audio driver but still no audio.

Could you please advise how to fix this issue? Thank you.

A:No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Laptop

If you installed RealTek, it did not take. The generic basic function Windows installed High Definition Audio Device is all that is showing for sound. Are you sure this PC has RealTek?

Looking at the Device Manager listing, this PC has other unidentified device problems. If there are motherboard chipset drivers for this model, install them as a first step.

More on the specs of this PC is needed. I looked at the Toshiba site but there are many different Portage M500 models.

I know there's a tutorial somewhere on the internets about how to do this, but can someone link me to where it tells you how you can make it so when you're installing Windows 7, you can have it install Home Premium instead of Ultimate?

Last thread today I swear..

A:Installing Windows 7, but don't want Ultimate

But you will have to use a crack because the keys are only intended for ultimate. And I would not recommend them as you never know whats in the goody bag.

hi all
just a general question on windows ultimate, can i install this edition on another drive while keeping my existing windows 7 home edition on the original drive? what i was going to do was disconnect my hard drive with the win 7 home on and just connect the drive i wish to have ultimate installed on and be able to have a choice to boot between operating systems while i transfer files etc over to ultimate. would i encounter problems if i wish to keep both operating systems on my pc? its a bought full retail edition (ultimate). the win 7 home was installed from factory.

A:installing windows 7 ultimate

Yes, there is no reason why you can't do what you suggest.

You don't say which files you are going to transfer to the Ultimate drive, but be aware you can't transfer applications - they will have to be installed again.

Once you've got both systems installed, you can then configure the BIOS to choose which drive is the first boot device.

Use the BCD Editor to rename the operting systems if need be.

Hello, people. I have an hp pavillion a1130n with 1.5 GB of ram. I am trying to install windows 7 ultimate x64. I am positive my PC can handle this. Despite its lack of .5 GB of ram. I have tried to install windows 7 ultimate 5 times. Two of them sent me directly to my windows XP SP3. The first gave me BOOTMGR is compressed. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart, followed by an endless loop. The other two times went like this: windows let me use the wireless on the pc to connect to my router, set a system time and user. When it finalizes its settings, it gives me 4 error windows. They each say I am missing a disc. I pressed "cancel" the first time and "retry" the 2nd time. This does not change the outcome, which is windows says "Welcome", followed by "shutting down". When I turn it back on it gives me the "black screen with the cursor" error. This is the error I am having. However, I can boot my windows XP again. I can also reinstall windows, if there is a point in trying. Things I should mention: I am using a usb to install do to my lack of a physical disc. I am not certain the ISO I have put on my flash drive is valid. What I do NOT want people to tell me: 1 install x32. THAT WILL PISS ME OFF. 2 Get a disc. I CAN'T. 3 Install more ram. I can't order any and I lost my 2GB ram card. And, plus, I am using my flash drive as ram once I am done with this. 4 use a different windows version (proffesional, home, basic, etc.) So, I would like... Read more

Hello, I have a New windows 7 installed from an windows xp!
The speaker icon down on the bottom right has a 'Red cross'.
It says "no audio output device is installed".
I went to device manager and on "high definition audio device" has an exclamation mark. the description says device cannot start. (code 10).
how can i get my audio to work?

Please Help!

ps... I believe I saw on another forum that windows ultimate only works with 64bit?
Is this true?

A:Windows 7 Ultimate Installed... No Audio! :(

You need Dell sound drivers, non-Dell sound drivers will either not work or not work correctly. Dell does not support Vista or Win 7 on this model, thus you will have to install a PCI sound card that is compatible. That is what others have reported doing on the Dell users forum.

I put my computer's stats in my details. My sound card is integrated on my motherboard. I've tried everything I've read on these forums. 1) installed audio drives (for win 7 x64) from my motherboard's website. 2) tried installing the latest Realtek drivers off their site. 3) tried installing both as administrator.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to figure it out. About to go back to Win XP cause of it.

For some reason my PC does not play sound anymore. I didn't do anything to it in fact everything was working fine the last time I used it. I was just surprised the moment I turned it on that I'm not getting any sounds!

I already tried windows troubleshooter and it said "Troubleshooter couldn't identify the problem". Already did a system restore but to no avail. Checked physical connections, tried using a different working headset but it still didn't play sound.

i already checked the device manager and it says the hardware is detected.

Hi, there has been a recent discussion thread at PlanetAMD64, where I am a member, about audio problems on Windows 7 Ultimate.

It appears to be a 'bug' in the low-level Windows drivers, where only 2-channel (ie stereo speakers) are allowed. Anything higher (eg 5.1 or 7.1) that is set in (for example) a higher-level program, such as the Creative Audio Console, is ignored.

Here is what I found, when I tested my own system here (this is from my most recent Post at PlanetAMD64):

Hi Hugh, here are the results of my testing here, using the Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card/external mixer, with the Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500 Speaker system:

The problem definitely seems to be with the Windows 7 system drivers.

Here are the tests/actions that I performed:

1) Updated my motherboard (ASUS M4A79T Deluxe) BIOS to the latest version (2304).

2) Disabled the onboard audio, in the BIOS settings.

3) Set up the Creative Audio Console to use my speakers (5.1 digital surround sound speaker system).

4) Ran the speaker test, only the left and right front (ie desktop stereo speakers) were working.

5) Enabled the onboard audio, in the BIOS settings, and disabled the Creative sound card using Device Manager.

6) Plugged the digital speaker system into the SPDIF output jack on the motherboard.

7) Tried to set the SPDIF output format to '5.1 speakers', but the option was not available from the Windows 7 driver.

8) Ran... Read more

FYI - I just returned from a conference at Microsoft where I learned that it's the 3rd party manufacturer's who determine if something is "compatible" with Windows 7 - NOT Microsoft.

Also, there are numerous issues with Creative drivers on the web. Both with Win7 and with some Vista installations. I doubt that this is a "Windows bug".

This site: states that the device is only compatible with 32 bit versions of Windows. What version are you using?

Running windows 7 ultimate (64bit) on an asus board with a HD 5450 video card in addition to integrated hdmi video on the board, no audio from the hdmi output to either the TV set speakers or to the speakers of my component system.

Also when I go to control panel > sound, the hdmi connection
indicates that it is unplugged.

I have seen a couple of articles on this site that advise making the hdmi the default connection but this option is not selectable (grayed out).

Anyone know how to resolve this so that the audio will be transmitted with the video via the hdmi cable?

If anyone has a link or knowledge addressing this, it would be appreciated as I have been unable to find anything on this with a Windows 7 64bit operating system....

Either way will work. You can install Ultimate without SP1 and then add SP1 or you can install directly to Ultimate SP1 if you have that.

There's usually no big benefit from upgrading to 64 bit if you have only 4 GB of RAM, but it certainly works fine.

I am currently using the newer laptop with Windows 7 Home, but I would like to install Windows 7 Ultimate from the CDs I purchased (which I used for the older laptop). What do I need to do? Do I need to unregister the laptop with Ultimate or can I just install Ultimate in this newer laptop?

Hello vmhatup, welcome to Seven Forusm.

You will need a Windows 7 Ultimate activation key to activate the installation to the second laptop, you cannot use the same activation key you used for Home Premium.

Hello everyone,
Recently I've been having some problems with my PC freezing from a few seconds up to a minute sometimes (during which if I had a video file playing in VLC, the audio would loop and the video would stop). I thought I caught some nasty virus so I decided to format and reinstall Windows.
I usually install Windows from a bootable USB made with Rufus, but this time it wouldn't work. It just wouldn't boot from USB, even though I had followed the exact same steps as before. The only thing different is that, for some reason, my flash drive appeared in BIOS as "Removable device" and not as "TOSHIBA TransMemory 8GB" like before.
So I decided I would install Windows from DVD. I knew something was wrong when it took an unusual amount of time to install. It would usually take me around 20 minutes, but now after 30m it was still expanding files. Then I got an error message. I tried it again with a different Windows DVD, but I got the same error message (linked below).

Motherboard: ASUSTeK M2N MCP61
Display: BenQ GL2250H

Before formatting, I ran memtest to see if it was a RAM problem, but it found nothing wrong.

Hello, everyone. This is my first post as well as my first question on this forum.

I bought an ASUS N56VZ a month ago, pre-installed with Windows 8 Single Language x64 which I do not like. I have been trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 every since the first day I bought this notebook, I have done everything I could, but everything has failed. Now, I have come up with a plan, and I am going to post it here, along with my problems, and see if my plan will work.

My problem now is that I have a 1TB WD hard disk (GPT partition style) with 5 partitions and 222.51GB of unallocated volume. These are the partitions:
1. 300MB EFI System Partition
2. 600MB Recovery Partition
3. 150GB partition (Windows 8)
4. 537.9GB of storage space
5. 20GB Recovery Partition
(Ignore MULTIBOOT, that is my USB, which I plan to use as a bootable WIndows 8 Installer in case anything goes wrong. However, the setup has the same problem as Windows 7 setup, cannot be installed on GPT style partition, and this renders my USB useless)
Windows 7 setup cannot pass through the partition selection screen because it says that Windows 7 cannot be installed on GPT partition.
I cannot remember the other problems I have because there are just so many (I have solved some of them, some are just impossible).

My plan is:
I will enter the Windows 7 setup during bootup, press Shift+F10 to open up the command prompt, run DISKPART-->LIST DISK-->SELECT DISK 0 (my only HDD)-->CLEAN-->CONVERT MBR-->CREATE ... Read more

In 2009, I had purchased a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate from a major retailer. I was upgrading from Vista, I believe. Had no problems.

In 2011, I had built a custom pc and tried installing my Windows 7 Ultimate and it gave me problems saying that it will not install on this pc.

I can't remember exactly how but a tech who worked at this major retailer informed me that I can do it on a new drive (of this new custom pc). I had to install it, then decline, activation, then reinstall it.

Can anyone please tell me if and how I can reinstall my genuine purchased copy of Windows 7 via this upgrade copy as I need to reinstall the os on this pc?

I thank you in advance!

You don`t need to change the boot device in the bios with a usb flash drive, just use the one time boot key to choose the flash drive.

Are you certain the flash drive was prepared successfully ?

Where did you get the Windows 7 files to put on the usb drive ?

i understood that there was an error in the installation disk itself. any way to work around this? because i'd really like to install windows 7 on my laptop. thanks in advance

You have a problem with the installer. Where did you get Win7? How is it being activated? Did you burn the ISO to disk yourself? If so confirm the ISO and burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

I just got a netbook and it came with Windows 7 Starter, and a whole lot of preloaded crap.
Apparently it also doesn't come with a boot disc, that the 'factory settings' are hidden deep within the system somewhere.

Well, I don't seem to like the factory settings, and I want to install Windows 7 full version, clean, with no preloaded crap, but I don't know the best way to go about it, since this netbook doesnt have a disc drive.

Also, I'll be departitioning and formatting and installing blank, but if something goes amiss, I don't have a disk to reinstall the starter edition?

I've heard I can turn a USB into a boot drive to install an OS off of, but can I download a backup copy of Starter Edition to put back on the computer in case anything goes wrong?

A:Installing Windows 7 Ultimate on my netbook?

Run this to check your system, but as you have the starter edition of Windows 7 it should be ok.

You can install Windows 7 from an external CD drive simply by setting it to 1st in the boot order in the Bios.

You cannot legally download a copy of Windows 7 Starter unless you pay for it.

Can anyone please advise me if I need to reinstall my Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit O/S if I wish to use the AHCI setting for SATA disks?

I installed the O/S with the BIOS setting for SATA at ATA then changed it in the BIOS after install. Unfortunately, the PC will not boot with it set to AHCI for SATA but changing it back to ATA gets it to boot.

I thought that from Vista onwards the SATA setting in the BIOS could be changed after the O/S had been installed, perhaps not ?

You mention you are trying to connect wirelessly but the Network Adaptor you described as the 'Intel(R) 86527V-2 Gigabit Network Connection' is of course for a wired connection not wireless.

You will need a wireless NIC in order to connect wirelessly needless to say.

I have recently installed Windows 7 ultimate onto my 'HP pavilion tx1250ea' laptop - Ive got nearly everything working. But there is a couple of problems. Whenever i try to install anything on the laptop the screen goes completely black for about 2minutes and then back to Normal, the only thing i can think of is that it has something to do with the graphics driver - 'Nvidia geforce 6150' (windows update). I tried to install this manually from the nvidia site but once ive downloaded the driver for windows 7 32bit it says it is not compatible. What am I doing wrong?!

Also - (sorry) The Laptop has 2gb RAM, since ive installed windows 7 it now only shows as 1gb. would this also have something to do with my black screen problem..

Hello all. Recently I've been attempting to install Windows 7 on this laptop, and I've followed several threads and tutorials to no avail. I have a fresh copy put on a USB stick configured to FAT32 as specified. I followed instructions to access the F12 Menu, and the boot Menu does not give me the option to boot from the stick. I read something else about "pressing the Novo button next to the power button", but this just pulls up a system recovery program. I understand that there are some functions which may be lost, and drivers that need to be installed afterward, from what I've read. I really miss the good old days when laptops came with a disk drive and an ethernet port, and booting from a device didn't require a PhD in rocket science. Any help would be appreciated. Ok so it doesn't matter what I'm doing, my audio cuts in and out randomly. I thought it might be a faulty board (and seeing as its built into my mother board I can't take it out and try another one) so I tried swapping over to my digital audio out on my graphics card. That yielded even worse results as not only would it cut out but every so often it'd come back artifacted and require resetting the audio on the video card to get it back. This is a relatively fresh install, but it was doing this before I had issues and needed to reinstall. So I'm thinking its a problem inside windows 7 itself.

Any thoughts guys?

Download all the newest drivers specific to your motherboard and attached devices for Windows 7 64bit, then install them.

I just finished re-building my computer and performed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I have not had any trouble getting any of the other device driver to install, but my audio does not work. When I mouse over the volume icon in my notification area, it says "No Audio Output Device is installed." I checked Device Manager and there are no missing drivers. The only thing in Device Manager that looks like anything audio related is the "High Definition Audio Controller".

I looked on the Intel support forums for an updated driver and found one that was for Windows XP/Vista. I tried to install it, but it said that the hardware was unsupported by the installation package. I have also tried to run the driver installer in compatibility mode for both XP SP3 and Vista SP1 & SP2, with no results.

I checked around on some other forums as well and saw a recommendation to update the chipset driver, which I have done. All other drivers and the system BIOS were updated to the latest versions. I also checked in BIOS and the audio is enabled. Also, another recommendation that I have tried is to uninstall the "High Definition Audio Controller" and disable audio in BIOS on next boot, then re-enable it after restarting a 2nd time and let Windows find the driver again.
The relevant specs of my PC are as follows:

Motherboard: Intel DG33TL Desktop Board
- From what Intel says, the audio chip is an "IDT 92xx Series"
OS: *Genuine* Windows... Read more

A:Cannot install audio driver in Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)

Looks like Intel doesn't provide support (drivers) for Windows 7x64 for that particular board. you can get Vista drivers to work (which you have already tried, apparently), but to be honest, updating your hardware is usually the easier (albeit more costly) route. You could look into just getting a PCI sound card:

The audio works perfectly fine in Windows XP, but not in Windows 7. The problem is, I cannot hear anything when I connect my earphones to the front jack. I just get VERY quiet audio through my left earphone, and nothing at all in the right one. I have tried everything - from the stickies to things I've found while browsing this forum, but nothing is working.

I have integrated audio - Realtek ALC 882. I have installed the latest drivers from both Realtek sites ( and, but they didn't help. I have tried the pin registry hacks (Pin00, Pin14, and Pin1b) to 04 00 00 00, but nothing happened. I have fiddled with various settings (unticked "enable jack detection", set Onboard Audio to Enabled in the bios, set Stereo Mixer to default playback device), but none of them did anything.

I am at my wit's end here. Really, I will appreciate any suggestions (even obvious ones) at this point. I just want the sound to work!

A:Audio Problems - Realtek ALC 882, Windows 7 Ultimate x32

The big problem is compatibility with Vista/Windows 7. HP does not have sound drivers for Vista or Windows 7, thus it is not supported. Non vendor (non HP) drivers may or may not work.

I used to do a lot of support on the Dell users forum and there were Dell's that were the same way - XP systems that Dell did not support for Vista/Windows 7. In those cases users were installing separate PCI sound cards that were Windows 7 compatible. You may have to do the same thing.

Vista/Windows 7 handles some audio functions differently than XP and the reason XP drivers are not compatible.

I would like to do a clean instal on my Dell Studio pc as I have had nothing but problems since I bought it with Vista Home Premium pre installed. I have decided to move to Windows 7.

The cheapest option is to upgrade. I have run the Upgrade Advisor and been told that I can upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. My husband is a mature student so I can get an education licence for Ultimate at £57.99. There is no education licence of Windows 7 Home Premium available so the cheapest is £98. That said, the functionality in Ultimate is way over the top for my needs.

What are the implications of installing Ultimate as and when a new version of Windows or whatever comes out - am I always going to have to instal (and pay for) the top end version?

I have considered biting the bullet now and buying the full version as I'm not sure of the complexity of performing a clean install with upgrades discs. Any thoughts anyone?

I have HP Compaq dc7700 small form factor desktop that has been running on XP. I wanted to install windows 7 ultimate and the installation started well until the point where windows starts loading services. unfortunately there was a blackout and on resuming the installation, the computer boots from the hard drive but installation is not completed. The computer started displaying this message: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click "OK" to restart the computer and restart the installation." I have restarted the computer but every time it loads the incomplete installation and displays the error. I have attempted to select disc drive and usb as the first boot device but each time the computer boots from the hard disk and displays this error. Any ideas on how to sort this out will be appreciated.
I have also tried booting with a different disc but nothing seems to be working

It's embarrassing to say how many hours I have invested in fighting the UEFI on my MB. Anyway, I need some help understanding how and why you should choose UEFI when installing Windows. Windows 7 in this particular case.

I'll try to start by explaining some of the issues and some of the parts of UEFI I don't understand. let's begin with my boot options that has had me pulling my hair out.

Asus bios boot options look something like this

1.DVD drive
4.UEFI DVD drive (this particular option has caused me some major headache and I don't understand its use. If I try to install windows 7 using the UEFI drive it will disable my mouse at the Windows 7 install screen.
5.Windows boot device. Can't remember the exact label on that but it is usually tied to my SSD booting ability

The way I finally got my install to go smooth was to only have the first 3 boot options available. Disabling 4 and 5

Also, in my bios I can choose between Windows UEFI or Other OS? Right now I'm using the windows UEFI choice, although I'm doubting I'm fully utilizing UEFI since I did not install my copy of with with UEFI DVD drive

I guess what I really want to know is how to use UEFI? What is it? Why should I use it? and last but not least what is that UEFI DVD drive, why is this a necessary boot option?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Pretty much can be summed up as welcome to Skylake and the Z170 world where win-7 is a pain to install

I've heard from a birdie using a dvd install isn't too bad
But mostly win-7 uses AHCI mode and Skylake uses XHCI mode.
I'm sure your board has a SP/2 connection for a mouse or keyboard.

Hi to every one!
I'm Artan and i have a old Fujitsu Siemens PC Scenic BS015 with a P 4 2.8 GHz. and 3 GB DDR with HDD 37.2 GB.
Was installed on it the Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I find another HDD of 37.2 GB and i put on to extend dhe HDD. After some times the PC was not working well and I thought maybe is time to re install the Windows 7.
When I try to do so was impossible to re install the OS on the Drive C (where it was) but automatically offers me to install on the other Drive (). I done so but I have now two OS on my computer and I don't need both of them.
Can somebody help me how can I fix this problem?

A:Problem with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit installing.

Use the install dvd to format the OS you don`t want.

You should have only had a single hard drive plugged in when you attempted to install windows.

Try again.

Good morning,
I have a problem installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a MacBook Air.
The machine is a MacBook Air 11.6", 1.6 GHz Intel Core Duo,4GB memory 1067 MHz DDR3 , 128 GB SSD Disk, running Mac OS X 10.6.7.
Using the Boot Camp Assistant I create the partition for Windows.
I installed then rEFIt 0.14 .
I boot from a external CD/DVD/Blu Ray unit (Pioneer BD-RW BDR-201) using a Windows 7 Ultimate DVD Including Service Pack 1) OEM Systems Builder Pack.
After getting the rEFIt window and select the Window 7 disk, the system took
just one second to ask me to Press Any Key to boot from CD or DVD.
After that took about 3 seconds in the first "Windows is loading files" window.
And after that about 49 seconds in the second "Windows is loading files" window.
When this second loading finished, I observe an access to the external DVD in
about 3 seconds, and another 8 seconds later, and after that nothing for one hour.
The window with the "windows is loading files" keeps exactly the same and there
is no more access to the DVD in one hour.
What can I be missing.?

Thank you for your help with this issue.

A:Problem Installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a MacBook Air

I have exactly the same problem on my macbook air 2011 13".

I tried with bootcamp, refit, but the screen will freeze on the second screen of "Window is loading files".

I tried to install windows xp home with refit, successfully. But when I try to upgrade to windows 7, same problem appear: freeze on the second screen of "Window is loading files".

I think it might be related with 64bit win 7, or something?

Anyone has the same problem or solution?

I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, over a previous installation of Windows Vista 32 bit, using a Windows 7 upgrade disk. When I select the partition, it gives me the error in the title, 0x80300024. This is on a mac pro computer. I did some looking and found the following thread:

Error (0x80300024)

which suggests pulling out all harddrives besides the one I'm installing windows on. Or more specifically, pulling out all harddrives with OS X installed. However, in my case, Vista and OS X are installed on separate partitions of the same harddrive; so I can't exactly remove the OS X drive.

Is there any way of fixing this?

I do have another drive; I could move its content elsewhere and use bootcamp to make that a windows partition, but I only have an upgrade disk, and from what I've read without a previous Windows install I will have trouble with activation.

I would be very grateful for any tips! Let me know if you need more information.

Edit: Never mind. Major brain malfunction there, the two OS's are actually installed on separate drives, so the solution posed in the thread I linked above should work.

This problem has been solved.

This is my first post on the forums so hello everyone!

I hope you can help me find the problem that's causing my system to hang to the point where even the cursor stops responding and I have to do a hard reboot. No BSOD whatsoever, just a complete halting of everything.

The hang up does not present itself with every game. Just to name two of them: Armed Assault and EVE Online. I have had this problem on Vista and now with Windows 7. I do manage to install Armed Assault but when applying a patch to it the system hangs.

My somewhat thorough troubleshooting has made me come to the conclusion that this hang up is caused by large files or large compressed files. I actually had a hang up today when I was trying to extract a 2,5 gig zip file. Since EVE Online is a single file download (that's the one I was trying to extract after unsuccesfull install attempt) and the Armed Assault patches are huge single files this might be the problem. I need to know what's causing the hang up on large files so I can continue playing EVE Online.

Where should I start looking for the problem? What info should I provide to you?

Thank you in advance!

Well, in previous threads I explained how possible RAM problems and perhaps drivers began causing problems with my computer, with ridiculous amounts of BSOD's, problems trying to reinstall windows, MEMTEST 86 coming up with all sorts of problems with my RAM sticks, etc.

It went from bad to worse when my old power supply got fried in the middle of the night.

After some trial and tribulation, I bought a better power supply (a 650 watt Corsair TX650), 4gb of DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2 RAM, put it all in, and I wanted to see what happened. I was relieved to find that the power supply had taken nothing out with it, all the other parts worked.

When trying to install Windows the first time, it 'froze' when 'unpacking' the files during the installation, or whatever it does. I restarted it, tried again, and it went by without a hitch. Everything installed fine (I presume), and I am now posting this from my laptop while staring at the empty desktop of my other computer, the one I just installed Windows on.

It's given me a lot of trouble in the past couple of weeks, and I want to make sure that it is all ready before I start installing programs, using the Automatic Update feature (which is, perhaps coincidentally, where my problems started last time, I tried to install about 44 updates that had gathered up while the computer was stored).

So, my question is: What exactly do I need to update as soon as I install Windows? I'd rather download stuff straig... Read more

The new WINDOWS 7 installation just give me HIGH-DEFINITION AUDIO DEVICE option under playback tab which I can tell it is working properly because I see the green levels going up and down when test option is clicked. However, no sound coming out of the plugged in-ear headphone and no speaker option is available.

I tried several times to install REALTEK HIGH-DEFINITION AUDIO DRIVER => 32bit_ Win7_ Win8_ Win81_ R273, but I followed the installation instructions, and somehow I do not see the realtek device under sound, videos and game controllers in the device manager. I pretty much sure the device has not been installed properly, for some reason.

I installed windows 7 ultimate. When everything was done there was two things wrong.

1. Was not connected to the internet
2. Audio was not working

most important was the internet. I am on a wired connection to my modem. I do not understand why I am not connected to the internet. When I use Kubuntu Jaunty live disk i'm online just fine (like right now) but in windows, nothin.

the second, it says that my audio isn't working, and it isn't in windows. again works fine on the kubuntu live disk.

i don't understand why any of this is going wrong.

my system is rather old, its a Dell OptiPlex GX240, Pentium IV 1.7Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, NVIDIA FX5500.
(yea i need a new system, so far only have $400 and thats definatly not enough)

A:Windows 7 Ultimate Can't connect to internet/audio not working

You will need to go to the Dell site and get the new drivers for W7.
If the system isnt to old they should have all of the including

If you have a thumb drive or something similar it is easy to put them on there and then put it into your computer and run the install.

I have two 80 GB drives I wish to use in raid 0 for my OS and video game installations.

I already know the system can function in raid, because after setting up hardware raid I was using them for my video games and screen capture (video) software. They run great, with over double the speed of my other, single drive.

But my problem then was that they would never keep their drive letters on reboot. Every time i restarted I had to set the letter again.

Well, I never found an answer to that so I just went ahead and attempted to install w7 on them. It installs just fine. Windows 7 sees the raid array as one single 149GB drive.

Upon the initial boot, it hangs at the logo screen and never moves. I assumed this was due to lack of raid drivers. Obtained the windows VISTA drivers for my motherboard, as windows 7 drivers are not listed on the web site...

Same problem. I read somewhere that windows XP x64 drivers work for this problem, but I dont have a floppy drive and the website only offers a small .exe that will make a floppy disc.

Welcome frustrated

You really should let us know exactly the make and model number of your system so that we can send you to the right place to find the microphone driver for your compaq/HP machine.

Normally you can go to the manufacturers web site and look under support and downloads to find the correct driver for the devices on your machine. Give that a shot.

filling out y our system specifications would help go to CP and add the info.

I just bought a used Dell Latitude E4300 which contains an Intel Core 2 Duo P9400 2.4GHz 64-bit processor and every time I install my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, it installs the 32-bit version.

I have been searching for the last 24 hours online for any issues with Windows 7 64-bit and the Latitude E4300 but cannot find anything helpful for my situation; in fact I have found a couple of sites where people have installed the 64-bit version of Win 7 on thier Latitude and they are having other issues.

I have 8GB of memory in the laptop I would like to be able to utilize, but the system type says it is a 32-bit operating system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Intel Processor Identifier utility says it is indeed a 64-bit processor so I am unsure why Windows 7 keeps installing the 32-bit version:

A:Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installing 32-bit on my Dell Lattitude E4300

That laptop has an Intel Core2Duo SP9400 in it, which is indeed a 64bit CPU. Assuming it's not somehow disabled in the BIOS (and I can't imagine how that could be, especially on a Dell), it would seem you have 32bit installation media. Given that machine released sometime in 2007 or 2008 (Vista-era) and shipped with XP as it's installation default option, it just sounds like somehow you have non-Dell installation media, and it's a 32bit install.

Hello guys.

i don't usually ask forums or join forums, because i like sorting out my own problems and not bothering other people with my problems, but i need someone that has really good knowledge of windows with this problems, i have been trying to instal windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my custom pc i build about a year ago, the pc was working amazing like 3 months ago, nice and fast (i mainly use my computer for photoshop) then just one morning windows corrupted and since then it has all been down hill.

i can manage to install windows 7 professional x64, i had it for 5 days but honestly my laptop that is running a 1.8ghz i3 is faster than it, and i can't handle that because its a modern i7 with enough ram for my needs, so i have no idea why 7 professional is so slow!

im back to starting with the installation of windows 7 Ultimate, and it wont continue because of the BSOD right after it completes the install.

if anyone can help me with this, i would really appreciate it alot!

PS: sorry for the bad spelling and english

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced Startup options, and then select safe mode.

Ok so I bought a new pc the other day it was delivered with Win 8 preinstalled 64 bit version, its a Packard bell Imedia. I've had a play about with it and I hate windows 8, that's why I have my windows 7 ultimate at hand ready to go on there. I've changed the boot priority for dvd drive first and enabled boot mode. Once I've got to boot mode the dvd drive never shows up in the boot menu, just the 1 of 2 1TB hdds I have in there appears. The drive is working as I've tried to run windows 7 install from the desktop though it has failed and I've read a little online to find out its due to the hdd drives being formatted in GPT format? I have never come across this before I know a little about pc's but not enough to know how to solve this issue. I really want to go back to Win 7 as I got on well with it and I hate windows 8 and I don't have a touch screen monitor to go with it either and nor would I want a touch screen monitor YCH!

hope someone here can help me i'm at my wits end haha

A:GPT Hard drive issues with installing Windows 7 Ultimate..

Hello DrWolfenstein, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since this is a new PC and formatted as GPT, then you have a UEFI motherboard.

If you have not already, then I would recommend creating a factory recovery USB to be able to restore Windows 8 back to factory conditions on your PC if you should ever want to in the future.Create a Packard Bell Factory Default Backup in Windows 8
Next, double check to make sure that there are Windows 7 drivers available for all devices on the PC. There's no sense in installing Windows 7 if you don't have drivers for the PC.

To install Windows 7 on UEFI, you would first need to create a bootable Windows 7 UEFI USB flash drive using the tutorial below.UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
Next, the tutorial below will show you how to install Window 7 on UEFI with the UEFI USB.UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with

I installed the Windows 8 Press Release on my Asus G73SW laptop. After a few days my laptop crashed and blue screened and it required me to re install Windows 7. I bought a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bot x64 Upgrade disc from the campus tech store, when I installed it on my laptop everything was working except for the Ethernet devices. Hi everyone, recently I've just bought a PC for my younger brother, and upon buying it, Windows Vista (TM) Ultimate was installed, however the name that was registered, my sister's name was spelt incorrectly, and thus she seeing me edit things in regedit, she attempted to change some things in there from her mispelt name to her correct one. Anywho, upon doing that as some of you may have already assumed, Vista may not be running as stable, it ran and booted buh Vista was now unstable. Hence which lead to the problem.

I've formatted the HDD, using Windows XP PRO installation disc, wanting to install xp instead of Vista. So, after it formatted and copied the files, it normally reboots right ? and hence begin running off the files which were copied to the HDD. However, here's the problem that doesn't happen, each time after it finishes copying the file, it restarts and repeats the process, and boots from the cd-rom. I've attempted to change the booting order from, floppy, cd-rom, harddisk to floppy, hard disk,cd-rom and it still wont' run.

Also with the format, I did both a clean(full) sweep and a short(quick) format.

Thats the problem, if you need any more information about it, please let me know and thanks to all that help. I may have some grammatical errors as I am extremely exhausted by this problem.

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate on several machines without incident. Yesterday I installed it onto my desktop. A Gateway that was previously running Win XP I had backed up my hard drive to an external becuase I wanted to do a clean setup. I chose those uptions as they appeared in the setup screen. The os set up fine. I then ran Windows Update. AFter everything downloaded I let the system install the 87 updates. The computer shyt down. I restaeted it and re-ran updates again. After downloading it installed about 7 more updates and shut down. Now when I turn on the machine. I get the "Splash Screen" tehn a black screen and in the top left corner it says:
Booting "Windows Vista"
Vista Loader 2.1.2
Fallback 1
find --set-root /bootmgr

That hangs for about two minutes then I get a screen that says Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration.

Then a screen that says: The file ARFSPK0N could not be found Press any key to continue. I press a key and I get a Setup Failed and it just basically goes back to the beginning.

I have tried installing the Original XP setup disc that came with my computer however it reads it then I get a message saying that Drive "R" could not be read and then my CD drive door opens. There is no disc in that drive as the setup disk is a DVD so it is in the DVD drive.

I went into the whole setup screen and chnaged the boot order but nothing seems to work.

I need HELP!!!

Thank you very much.

A:Windows Vista Ultimate will not boot up after installing updates

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Was your gateway having any other issues before you updated it? Virus, infection of any type? Or was it just time to upgrade?

The reason that you might be getting that disc error is because that might be a recovery disc, not an installation disc.

Try inserting you vista install disc, make sure that you are booting from the DVD drive before the harddrive. Then, when you go to install, when you are looking to see what partion to install on, make sure that you erase, not format, erase the partion. This usually helps with installation errors.

Hi guys,

I have the free build version of Windows 7 Ultimate N (64-bit) installed on the same setup, but on a different hard drive, without any problems. I am using the following hardware,

Intel DH55TC motherboard,
Intel Core i5 650 processor

After reading some articles on the internet I tried the following without any success :
Using only one RAM module during installation, as suggested by some.
Connecting only one hard drive during installation, as suggested by some.
Checked that the cooling system on the CPU is in good condition, as suggested by some.
Disabling ACPI in BIOS but the system does not allow it.
Disabling ACPI in Windows but apparently that can't be done for Windows 7.

I also read, at Win 7 checked build installation problem on DG41WV, that the Intel DG41WV motherboard produced similar messages prior to installation.

Does my DH55TC board support checked build versions of Windows? Any help will be much appreciated!

That makes me because I cannot change to boot from USB 3.0, and other stuff. BIOS Version: Insyde F.20 (or something like that). Just create a usb 3.0 installer using Asus`s EZ Installer Program.

You need a working PC with a DVD rom, a windows 7 install DVD and I would use at least an 8 GB usb stick, you can always try a 4 GB stick.

Get the EZ Installer program from Asus support, it does all the work and so simple a Computer Technician could do it.

You have to disable Secure Boot, if you can`t ... well then.

The bios should be set to Legacy or Legacy & UEFI and the hard drive should be MBR, not GPT.

If you can`t do any of those things, then you may be installing Windows 8.1 again, then I`d upgrade to 10.

Good Luck

Hey everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9337 with windows vista home premium pre-installed. One day i decided to upgrade to windows vista ultimate edition and as the computer restarted to finalize the installation, all i saw was a black screen for a very long time, so i decided to turn off the computer and turn it on again. The problem is now that every time i turn on my computer i just see a black screen not even a Toshiba logo comes up just blackness! I took it to Best Buy and the people there told me it was a motherboard issue, and i could send it in and get it fixed for around $800.. i didn't want to do this because i thought i could just buy a whole new laptop with that money.
Was it really the motherboard that crapped out? And if it was is there a way i can fix it myself? (note: i have a soldering iron and some knowledge on hardware) It would be really helpful if there was a cheaper solution or a how-to-guide someone can refer me to, thanks.

Currently installed OS is Ultimate 64bit which is an upgrade from Vista Home 64bit. The problem is I lost my both Vista and Ultimate DVDs and need to buy a new one.

If I buy Ultimate upgrade version, will it work? Can I install it over my current Ultimate, or will it require a lower grade of windows installed on the machine (e.g. Vista, W7 Home, Pro etc.)

Thanks for any help.

I have an HP Pavilion m9402f system that uses the RealTek ALC888S chipset and I have it digitally connected to an Altec Lansing DP/N 028YKP – 4770-0CH-2C81 Rev A00 Amplifier by an SPDIF coax. The Altec Lansing AMP is connected to two front, two back and one base woofer speakers.

I am running windows 7 Ultimate (64Bit) using your latest device driver from your Web Site R2.68 download which shows up as the Rev driver. I have also tried using the original driver supplied by HP Rev. and both have the problems listed below.

Problem: I can only enable the 2-channel audio device. I cannot configure the speaker arrangement as five speakers on the Reltek HD Manager Display control panel. In addition the configure button is grayed out on the windows "Sound" Display Control Panel.

The displays shows only two channels of audio enabled. But the Default ConfigurationButton is Grayed out.

The Realtek HD Manager Display recognizes and shows that I am using an SPDIF Digital Coax Connection. I have a Digital Output Tab on that display but I do not have a Speakers Tab or a Microphone Tab displayed.

What do I have to do to configure the speakers? Is it a register setting that is not being properly set up? What are the registry keys for this device?

Thank you for your help!

Hey, new to these forums.

My laptop is having some crashing issues which I believe is due to a faulty installation of my current Windows 7. I want to re install it with Windows 7 Ultimate as a clean install. When I go to start up the installation and choose to receive updates, I get the error: "Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100"

From what I have read, this is due to a partition problem. Do I need to clear and format all partitions and boot the setup from a DVD? If so, how do I do this? Currently I am just running it using Daemon Tools Lite mounting software.

A:Trouble installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. Error code: 0x0000100

Hi there
you can try this

1) boot from Windows install / recovery disk and choose repair system ==>tools ==> command mode

type the following in

Now try and install again.

If you STILL get an error then get into command mode again via the Windows install disk

now type these commands in

Choose the disk you want to install windows on -- or the only disk if its a normal laptop

SELECT DISK X where X is the disk number

(This will re-format the entire HDD - you can easily re-size afterwards with tools like GPARTED).

Now restart and install Windows -- if it STILL fails then you've got something wrong with the laptop.

Hello everyone.

I recently built a brand new computer (Core i5, GIGABYTE mobo, 8gb ram, 500GB hd) and I've been trying to install a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate onto it.

The first issue I ran into is that I didn't check to see if the new motherboard had an IDE ribbon cable port for my DVD and CD-ROM drives in my old computer that I planned to port over. The new motherboard does not, so I attempted to run the computer using my old hd and planning to install the new drivers over it. This was met by having the computer get to the startup logo animation, continue for about 0.5 seconds, and then immediately restart. Once it had restarted, it gave me the option of Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. After I had messed with it a bit, I looked for a reason why this could be happening. The biggest response I saw for other people was that there was a conflict between the drivers and that a clean install would be the best option. Since I don't have a DVD or CD-ROM drive (yet), I had to find a solution for that problem.

The solution I found was a tutorial by a Microsoft employee on how to create a USB Boot Drive. I correctly followed the instructions and attempted to install Windows 7 Ultimate on the new machine. The installation setup was very fast on the new system, but when it got to the first actual step of installation (after selecting language and pressing "Install Now"), an error message stated that there were drivers for my DVD and/or CD-ROM drives that were not ... A:Windows Vista Ultimate keeps restarting after installing Service Pack 1?

Without your system info it's gonna just be a lot of guessing here.
I wonder if it's an HP - and if so, if it has the AMD/INTEL fault in it (the 2 drivers conflict)
This happens because HP loads a lot of drivers that may not be needed by your system.
HP has a patch for this - but it must be installed before installing SP1.

So, I'd suggest restoring it to an even earlier time.
If that doesn't work, then I'd suggest saving your data by using an external drive enclosure. Then wipe the hard drive and start over.

I hope someone can help me, I'm not overly techy so I've give you as much info as I can. Trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on brand new pc with this spec:

Intel? Core 2 Quad Q8300
Motherboard: Asus P5P43TD (Intel P43 chipset, 4x DDR3, PCI-E 2.0)
Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333mhz (2x 2GB)
Hard Drives: 500GB S-ATAII 3.0Gb/s
Optical Drive: 22x DVD?RW DL S-ATA
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 1GB
Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
PSU: 400W
Monitor: Viewsonic VX2260wm lcd display

Initially I got quite a way through the installation then it came up with an error saying the computer closed unexpectedly and had to restart to continue installation. I had got my monitor connected to the nvidia gt 9500 via divX. Said Ok, pc shut down, then restarted with exactly the same message. Read up on the Net and said that it could be the nvidia card, so got to device manager and removed drivers so it had to use standard vga drivers and switched to the vga connection on the graphics card (I dont' have onboard graphics on my motherboard).

Well, now it doesn't have the old problem it has a new one. I am booting straight from the dvd drive and it lets me get to the Windows install page, I select custom install and it gets to anything between 2 and 72% of expanding the files (second stage on list) and then it blue screens with various errors. the last one being this:

I had a new system made up for me a few months back and as I was so insistent on excellent cooling - fans - RAM etc, I didn't pay enough attention to the HDD's.
Subsequently the system was installed on an SSD 60GB. For a normal user this would be adequate, but I work with a lot of digital programs that write to the app data folders and I can't safely move those onto the D:\Drive where I have programs and Docs - all libraries. I have hard linked everything I could, but the more Windows updates and other updates I do, the Winsxs folder is already 7.2GB.

I only have 30GB's left after a very short time and would like to be able to install another Windows 7 x64 on a 1TB drive I can free up easily. Ideally, I want to keep the SSD drive as an OS to use for general use and get all my graphics programs onto a different system for work purposes.

I have not ever dual booted before and have no idea how to go about it - or I do but it could be wrong.
Is it even possible to have one OS on an SSD and the other on a normal HDD? I do have an extra unused OEM version of Win 7 x64 ultimate and hope that is legal to use two identical OS's on same machine - with different keys!!

If I cannot dual boot I am willing to erase the SSD, probably use the space for something else, and use a normal spinner. It's that important for me to be able to work without disabling everything and have space left over.

Any advice and/or assistance is most appreciated.

A:Assistance with Installing another instance of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Dual Boot

Shouldn't be any problem with the dual boot.

When you go to install Microsoft doesn't make it very easy to distinguish one partition from another, and people sometimes install in the wrong place. That's why, in a situation like yours, I advise to do your partitioning work ahead of time--create the partition you want and give it a unique name (e.g., "Win7 Ultimate Work"). If Disk Management won't do whatever you desire use another partitioning tool. I use the free EASEUS Partition Master.

If you want any more information on this phase it would be good if you showed a screen shot of the Disk Management window.

Then boot to the Windows installation DVD (you may have to change the boot order) and select "Custom" install and make sure you select the carefully named partition. As long as you select the desired partition the worst that will happen is that you will need to start over.

After you can boot to either installation you can then, if desired, change the default boot and shorten the default wait time.

I had my new computer assembled (64 bits) and running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits. Now I am trying to make work some of my old computer's software, that I want to use. I am having some software and hardware problems:
1 - I want to install my printer, but the options for ports that appear on the list are: LPT1 to LPT3, COM1 to COM4 and XPSPort(local). The computer not has where to connect my LPT cable and I never heard of XPSPort(Port), any suggestion?
2 - I installed CoolEditPro 2.0 without error, but, when I want to run it, I receive the message WMVcore2.dll is missing. I found this file on my old computer's folder C:\winnt\system32. Probably only copy this file to my new computer, will not solve the problem. It probably is part of any other software that I not installed on my new computer. Any idea which software would install this dll?
3 - Installation of my Office2000 went fine. All works well, exception Outlook2000. I was able to open my pst file but, when I click on Addresses, I receive a message that wab.dll is missing. In my old computer, I not found this wab.dll, only outlwab.dll. I downloaded Thunderbird, installed it and was able to import my emails and address book.
4 - my scanner is a Genius CP-HR7x Slim. I tried to install the drivers that I have on the CD that came with the scanner. The driver installed without error, but Windows not recognizes my scanner. Is there any safe place where I can download 64 bits drive for my scanner?

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer after reformatting it.
The installation is successful but there is no Audio.
When i click on the properties of the Sound & Audio,
the error says: "Cannot start this device. Code 10".

I have tried to update it through Windows update, but there is no update for the audio driver,
it always says 'Your Audio Driver is Up to Date'.

I have manually tried to download and install the Audio Realtek HD sound Driver,
Still does not work.

Please Help!!

A:No Audio after installing Windows 7

Let's make sure that your playback devices are enabled.

Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar > Select 'Playback Devices'
In the empty space, Right-click and select both 'Show Disconnected/Disabled Devices'
Do you see icons for your speakers and headphones now? You may need to enable both of these.

You can also try the troubleshooter to discover any connection issues that may exist, instructions are below:

Click 'Start' > Select 'Control Panel'
Type troubleshooting in the top-right search field > Select 'Troubleshooting'
Click 'Hardware and Sound' > Select 'Playing Audio'

I recently installed Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook. I did this without noticing it was muted. Now I have no audio. I have tried downloading a variety of vista compatible Conexant High-Definition Audio drivers and as yet none have worked.

The audio icon in my taskbar has a red circle with a white cross in it. When I try to install the latest driver through windows task manager it says I have the latest one. When I do a windows update I get no difference. Not really sure what I should do now. I'm out of ideas. Help? Please?

Background: A little while ago, the audio on my Windows XP Pro SP2 system
stopped working. I was using the on-board audio card and never had a problem
before. Then, the audio device just wasn't recognized by windows anymore.
When I went to the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window from the
Control Panel, it would tell me that no audio device was detected. Looking
in the Device Manager, however, under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"
section, all drivers were installed properly, with no IRQ conflicts, and no
yellow exclamation points on any of the sound devices or codecs. I also
verified that my speakers were working on another system, obviously, and
ensured that the audio card was enabled in my motherboard's BIOS. I
downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard (and on-board audio card),
uninstalled and successfully re-installed those drivers multiple times.
Still no sound! I even went out and bought a new PCI audio card, installed
it, downloaded and installed the latest drivers for it. STILL no luck. This
is when I really began to scratch my head.

Next, I tried a to do a non-destructive "Repair" of Windows using that
option from the Windows XP setup CD. I got errors doing that , and I gave up
after several attempts. Finally, on a cloned backup hard drive, I
re-installed Windows completely. Lo and behold, the audio worked fine!

This leads me to believe that some part of the Windows XP audio "su... Read more

After installing Windows 7 on my laptop (clean install), everything's good EXCEPT when playing music. There is an intermittent loud buzz which lasts for a second or so - this happens only once every 5 minutes or so, but is very annoying. I tried updating the drivers to Realtek, which came with the computer originally, but it did not help.

Can someone help?

A:how to resolve audio issue after installing windows 10

Sumathi1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about lack of sound and wanted to help -- but need more information. I see you're running Win10. Did the PC come preinstalled with Win10? Or, did you upgrade it from a prior OS to Win10?If you did the upgrade, how long ago was that, and what was the prior OS? Also, please follow these instructions for finding the detailed product number of your laptop: Finding Your HP Product Model Number | HP® Customer Support And finally, I need to know what sound drivers you are using, so please open Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Sound. In there, you should see Speakers.  CLick on that and then click the Properties button.  In there, you should have a section Controller Information, click the Properties button. Then click the Drivers button -- and tell me what it says.We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

I switched OS to Ubuntu for about a week, LoL didn't run well in Ubuntu so I reinstalled windows 8. When i open playback devices all I have is NVIDIA HDMI Output (port 0) and (port 1), both of which show unplugged and disabled. I have disabled and disconnected devices set to show, but those are all that show. I have reinstalled drivers, reinstalled windows, downloaded Realtek, enabled onboard audio in BIOS, but nothing has fixed the problem so far. When I boot into Ubuntu via USB, the audio works fine.

I just installed the GameMuse DVD 5.1 driver to my Windows XP Pro because my sound wasn't working and now I can't get past the "Windows Is Starting Up" Screen. It will say video resolution not supported and then the only thing I can do is reboot.

This never happened before when I installed this driver, but it happened now after I installed and used Driver Genius Professional.

Please advise.

A:windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Try these:

1. During startup, press F8 repeatedly (could be a different F-key, usually F8). If done right, you should come to a black screen with multiple selections, such as starting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, networking, etc. Select the "Start with last known good configuration" option and press enter. See if that helps.

2. In the event the above does not work, then do the same thing again and start in safe mode. If it allows you to do so, go into the device manager (right-click on "My Computer", properties, click the Device Manger button), select the device you installed the driver for, and roll-back the driver.

3. In the event neither of the above worked, do the same thing again, and start in safe mode. This time, try system restore. Try restoring to a point BEFORE you installed the driver.

Hi guys!

First i want to apologize for my bad english since i'm italian

So.. I just installed windows7 ultimate and suddenly the right audio channel is not working.

1) I want to make clear i've tried different cables and headphones/speakers (i'm a producer so i've got plenty..) and i can't hear the right channel at all.

2) I tried to download latest version of Realtek and it didn't help

3) On audio configuration when i press the configure button and it starts helping me configuring it, when i tried the right audio channel i could hear it very low (like the left channel is at least 10 times higher). that is the only situation in wich i can hear something coming out from my right speaker (and is like a 90w monitor.. so i think i'll hear it otherwise)

4) Since i just installed everything i tried to format and re-install, but i got no results

5) I tried the bit/hz thing but with ANY configuration i don't get any result

6) And now a very odd thing: since i got an external audio interface i tried even with that. right channel still not working.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand now some hardware things that may be helpfull to help me (hopefull)

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
