HP Audio isn't working after installing Windows 7

Q: HP Audio isn't working after installing Windows 7

I recently installed Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook. I did this without noticing it was muted. Now I have no audio. I have tried downloading a variety of vista compatible Conexant High-Definition Audio drivers and as yet none have worked.

The audio icon in my taskbar has a red circle with a white cross in it. When I try to install the latest driver through windows task manager it says I have the latest one. When I do a windows update I get no difference. Not really sure what I should do now. I'm out of ideas. Help? Please?

Hi guys!

First i want to apologize for my bad english since i'm italian

So.. I just installed windows7 ultimate and suddenly the right audio channel is not working.

1) I want to make clear i've tried different cables and headphones/speakers (i'm a producer so i've got plenty..) and i can't hear the right channel at all.

2) I tried to download latest version of Realtek and it didn't help

3) On audio configuration when i press the configure button and it starts helping me configuring it, when i tried the right audio channel i could hear it very low (like the left channel is at least 10 times higher). that is the only situation in wich i can hear something coming out from my right speaker (and is like a 90w monitor.. so i think i'll hear it otherwise)

4) Since i just installed everything i tried to format and re-install, but i got no results

5) I tried the bit/hz thing but with ANY configuration i don't get any result

6) And now a very odd thing: since i got an external audio interface i tried even with that. right channel still not working.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand now some hardware things that may be helpfull to help me (hopefull)

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer after reformatting it.
The installation is successful but there is no Audio.
When i click on the properties of the Sound & Audio,
the error says: "Cannot start this device. Code 10".

I have tried to update it through Windows update, but there is no update for the audio driver,
it always says 'Your Audio Driver is Up to Date'.

I have manually tried to download and install the Audio Realtek HD sound Driver,
Still does not work.

Please Help!!

A:No Audio after installing Windows 7

Let's make sure that your playback devices are enabled.

Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar > Select 'Playback Devices'
In the empty space, Right-click and select both 'Show Disconnected/Disabled Devices'
Do you see icons for your speakers and headphones now? You may need to enable both of these.

You can also try the troubleshooter to discover any connection issues that may exist, instructions are below:

Click 'Start' > Select 'Control Panel'
Type troubleshooting in the top-right search field > Select 'Troubleshooting'
Click 'Hardware and Sound' > Select 'Playing Audio'

Hi,

I am really hoping if someone could help me with this issue that I am facing ever since I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit).
I was using Windows XP Home edition prior to this.
After the installation of Windows 7, I saw in the Device Manager under the section "Sound" : Multimedia Audio Controller. This also had a yellow exclamation mark.

On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, if I click on the speaker icon (It has a red cross on it), it says "No audio devices are installed".

I have integrated sound card.

Can someone please tell me how to check what sound drivers I need and from where to install it?

I would really appreciate the help.

Background: A little while ago, the audio on my Windows XP Pro SP2 system
stopped working. I was using the on-board audio card and never had a problem
before. Then, the audio device just wasn't recognized by windows anymore.
When I went to the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window from the
Control Panel, it would tell me that no audio device was detected. Looking
in the Device Manager, however, under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"
section, all drivers were installed properly, with no IRQ conflicts, and no
yellow exclamation points on any of the sound devices or codecs. I also
verified that my speakers were working on another system, obviously, and
ensured that the audio card was enabled in my motherboard's BIOS. I
downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard (and on-board audio card),
uninstalled and successfully re-installed those drivers multiple times.
Still no sound! I even went out and bought a new PCI audio card, installed
it, downloaded and installed the latest drivers for it. STILL no luck. This
is when I really began to scratch my head.

Next, I tried a to do a non-destructive "Repair" of Windows using that
option from the Windows XP setup CD. I got errors doing that , and I gave up
after several attempts. Finally, on a cloned backup hard drive, I
re-installed Windows completely. Lo and behold, the audio worked fine!

This leads me to believe that some part of the Windows XP audio "su... Read more

Sumathi1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about lack of sound and wanted to help -- but need more information. I see you're running Win10. Did the PC come preinstalled with Win10? Or, did you upgrade it from a prior OS to Win10?If you did the upgrade, how long ago was that, and what was the prior OS? Also, please follow these instructions for finding the detailed product number of your laptop: Finding Your HP Product Model Number | HPģ Customer Support And finally, I need to know what sound drivers you are using, so please open Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Sound. In there, you should see Speakers.  CLick on that and then click the Properties button.  In there, you should have a section Controller Information, click the Properties button. Then click the Drivers button -- and tell me what it says.We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Toshiba A105-S4211

After installing Windows 7 on my laptop (clean install), everything's good EXCEPT when playing music. There is an intermittent loud buzz which lasts for a second or so - this happens only once every 5 minutes or so, but is very annoying. I tried updating the drivers to Realtek, which came with the computer originally, but it did not help.

Can someone help?

Hi,

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Toshiba Portege M500. However there is no audio came out although in the device manager it worked properly.

I have installed realtek audio driver but still no audio.

Could you please advise how to fix this issue? Thank you.

A:No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Laptop

If you installed RealTek, it did not take. The generic basic function Windows installed High Definition Audio Device is all that is showing for sound. Are you sure this PC has RealTek?

Looking at the Device Manager listing, this PC has other unidentified device problems. If there are motherboard chipset drivers for this model, install them as a first step.

More on the specs of this PC is needed. I looked at the Toshiba site but there are many different Portage M500 models.

I just installed the GameMuse DVD 5.1 driver to my Windows XP Pro because my sound wasn't working and now I can't get past the "Windows Is Starting Up" Screen. It will say video resolution not supported and then the only thing I can do is reboot.

This never happened before when I installed this driver, but it happened now after I installed and used Driver Genius Professional.

Please advise.

A:windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Try these:

1. During startup, press F8 repeatedly (could be a different F-key, usually F8). If done right, you should come to a black screen with multiple selections, such as starting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, networking, etc. Select the "Start with last known good configuration" option and press enter. See if that helps.

2. In the event the above does not work, then do the same thing again and start in safe mode. If it allows you to do so, go into the device manager (right-click on "My Computer", properties, click the Device Manger button), select the device you installed the driver for, and roll-back the driver.

3. In the event neither of the above worked, do the same thing again, and start in safe mode. This time, try system restore. Try restoring to a point BEFORE you installed the driver.

I have disabled and disconnected devices set to show, but those are all that show. I have reinstalled drivers, reinstalled windows, downloaded Realtek, enabled onboard audio in BIOS, but nothing has fixed the problem so far. When I boot into Ubuntu via USB, the audio works fine.

Guys, I have problem with Realtek HD audio when sound plays. The sound skippies on some areas.

Please reply.

A:Sound Skippies on Windows 7 after installing Realtek HD audio

Sound is always on a shared IRQ (Interrupt) with a higher priority device. Depending on what the higher priority device is it could be interrupting the sound.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Sometimes this puts sound on a different shared IRQ and fixes the problem.

The sony support say they need to "install compatible windows components and reconfigure the settings in the computer", with a fee. Is there something we can do here to resolve the problem?

Just like the title says, I don't want the realtek audio drivers as it completely messes with my audio and also doesn't correctly switch when i plug in headphones for example.
It also doesn't allow for the 'speaker fill' enhancement to be used when playing stereo content through surround sound.

Windows itself does a far better job as opposed to realtek.

Every time i uninstall realtek it automatically gets reinstalled.

Sorry Microsoft, you don't know best.

I updated From WIndows 7 to Windows 10 in March; on board sound system worked fine at that point. Since one of the updates this summer (July 12, I think, though it could have been later), the internal speakers do not work; the computer does not recognize the presence of internal speakers (only external speakers and microphone). I have tried using  Device Manager to update drivers: sound and audio controllers--HD Audio device--runs the update and says my drivers are up to date (but only registers the external speakers). I have tried searching the HP site for the driver compatible with my setup--no luck.  Can you either help me get to the driver link or suggest another solution? Is it possible to recover and use (e.g.) the driver that I had for Windows 7? or another earlier operating system? THANKS!

Hi guys, so I did a fresh install of windos 7 pro (x64) on my desktop pc. But now the onboard audio isn't working. I checked the BIOS and saw it was enabled. Then I went to Asus's website and downloaded the recommended Realtek audio driver for my system and installed it. Still nothing. Hi, I've recently upgraded to Windows 10. Everything is good with it asides from the dang audio. When I first noticed it, it would only work through the headphones not the speakers. I searched for solutions and discovered it was a common problem with Windows 10. One solution suggested I update my laptop drivers, which I did, then the sound worked perfectly through both speakers and headphones and there was no problem. Today I start up my laptop again, and no there is no sound again. At all. Not through headphones or speakers. I have tried to update the sound drivers but Windows says they are all up to date. I have even switched to the generic High Definition Audio device Windows 10 offers, but that changed nothing. Uninstalling sound drivers and restarting my PC didn't work. Can anyone offer any other solutions? Please, this is doing my head in.... Thank you

Hi,

I'm currently running a Samsung NP305E5A-A03US laptop with Windows XP. After some intense searching I managed to find all the drivers for it (the Samsung website only has Win7 drivers). The last driver I found was for the Realtek HD Audio.

Immediately after the audio driver was installed the sound started working. I was getting Windows sounds as well as music. I rebooted the system so Windows could install an update (I don't know which update), and when the desktop came back up, the sound wasn't working again.

According to control panel everything, is working fine. I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver again, but nothing works. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Audio not working, Windows XP

Well first off, you don't want to try and use to many driver packs or sets that are meant for more up to date and modern Operating Systems. When it comes to Windows XP, it seems to only like drivers, packs and sets that were written for it. Sometimes you can try to get away with installing a Windows Vista driver if the (bit) option is right, but that's like a 30% will work and 70% it won't work proposition. I don't know if what I've found will help your cause, but I did happen to find a Realtek HD Audio Driver that is meant for Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP and Windows 2003.

Here's The Driver............"just click"!
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/REALTEK/Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver-147.shtml

I hope this pans out for you, if not, and this doesn't do the trick for you, just keep searching the Internet for a audio driver that is meant for Windows XP.

Good Luck

The only way to fix it is by right clicking on the little speaker by the clock, clicking sounds, then it asks if I want to turn the audio back on.

It's so irritating, how do I fix this?

A:Windows Audio Has Stopped Working :(

This is caused by stapo64.dll, which - from name - is a driver by IDT Audio. If you are not sure about this device and/or its driver, whether or not it's actually a component of your PC, then you'll wanna check the driver using virustotal.com. The file's located in Windows/System32 directory. If the file turns up clean, then find an update for it at your audio device manufacturer or your PC vendor's website.

Hi there,A few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible. I have never used external speakers. The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. Hi Chris, Try the following. Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59861.exe When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  If you see an entry for IDT HD Audio ( or very similar IDT entry ), right click the device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.  If there was no IDT entry, just proceed below. When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar ... Hello! So for the past few months, I've been having issues with my audio and Windows 10. My problem was I would have my audio completely cut out, but after trying a lot of fixes online, I managed to find one that was fairly stable (although the issue still presented itself if I had extremely long sessions on my laptop, but rarely did I get to that point). The issue is that recently this problem has arisen once again. Sometimes simply putting my laptop to sleep then waking it up again would fix it for a bit, but other times required my laptop to be rebooted. In the past couple of days, I decided to try and fix the issue by going through the process I went through before, so I searched throughout the internet for different fixes and drivers I could try, and so far all I've found is that one driver might last for half an hour or so, then it will cut out again and I need to redo the entire process. It's really stressing me out and I've decided that going on these forums may be easier for me to find the answer, and it may also help other people in my situation. Thanks in advance!

I have encountered issues with Conexant HD Audio driver.

When I install driver there will be no sound and when I uninstall it there will be sound.

Here I am attaching my computer specifications.

Thank You.

A:conexant HD audio not working windows 7 64 Bit

Are you sure the Conexant is the correct driver? Lenovo does not state what sound module is in this model, however it appears it was delivered with Windows 8.

When you install the driver, is the Conexant (if that is correct) being set as the default sound playback device?

i recently was working through getting rid of trojans and i believe i might have affected some files that were a part of either my audio or windows firewall.

there seem to be no detected sound devices, and on start up, the "found new hardware" thing pops up which i assume is related to the audio device. it searches for drivers and promts me to look for them in windows update but nothing shows up. i've reinstalled my audio driver but it didn't help either.

i ran the directx diagnostic tool and did a direct sound test, got this error:
DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x80070057 (Invalid argument(s))
then i messed with the hardware acceleration and it immediately changed to:
No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

also, i cannot activate windows firewall. i don't know if its always been like this or if it was a result of my recent actions.

any advice on either problem would be greatly appreciated.

So suddenly when the my laptop sleeps or turns the screen off,

the audio device gets taken over by some hidden application

or the optional update was just faulty.

I've been experiencing this for two days now. Check the picture for more information

And yes, I have tried every possible solution I can think of

- re-installing the drivers
- disabling then enabling the audio device (which somehow solves it. i wanna know why)
- restarting the laptop (yah solves the problem.)
- etc

except for buying a new laptop.

So maybe anyone can help me with my little situation here?

it's a hassle to restart the laptop/ disable-enable the audio device when someone needs to use it

A:Windows 8 audio suddenly not working.

Well, one obvious choice is to find that device that's hogging audio. Skype ?, maybe some other comm program, music player ? etc.
If you disable some startup items, you could find what's doing that.

I've been having audio issues for a couple of weeks now and I can't resolve it. I've checked my device manager and there isn't an audio driver installed. The computer isn't detecting it and I believe this may have happened after it automatically updated. There is no RealTek driver on my computer and I don't know what to do or how to properly re-install this without having to "pay" for the package deal online.  I have already restarted my computer and nothing has changed. I am afraid of putting it on recovery mode or backingit up all the way to windows 7 as It can erase all my work and documents. Has anyone else have had the same issue for this model? or is there any type of advice I may get? Thank you in advance.

I put my computer's stats in my details. My sound card is integrated on my motherboard. I've tried everything I've read on these forums. 1) installed audio drives (for win 7 x64) from my motherboard's website. 2) tried installing the latest Realtek drivers off their site. 3) tried installing both as administrator.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to figure it out. About to go back to Win XP cause of it.

A:Audio not working after Windows 10 upgrade

You can try below troubleshooting steps to resolve your audio issue after windows 10 upgrade:- Right click on Sound icon to open Playback devices- Choose your current playback device- Navigate to Properties and click on Advanced- Choose lower or higher bitrate (use 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz - it depends on the device).

Sam, welcome to the forum. I suggest going into the Control Panel / Sound to assure that your sound device is the Default.  The settings change frequently when upgrading to Win 8.1. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

This is like my third brush with this problem this week. The first two times I just jiggled the volume control knob and that fixed it. This time I got stuck at the Welcome Screen for over 5 minutes while logging in before I did a hard reboot to Safe Mode With Networking. I found a little X on my speakers icon. So I'm gonna try the first YouTube video I found on the subject and follow directions.

So this has been an issue for a while now,
Every time I try and install 'Realtek HD Audio Drivers', My PC doesn't install them, and says it's the drivers aren't compatible. In the sound tab in the taskbar, the 'speakers' don't show up anywhere because Realtek isn't installed. Whenever I go to device manager, under Sound, video, game controllers, It says 'NVIDIA High Definition Audio'. This is a PROBLEM as when I am making music, the volume is pretty LOW and slightly distorted, even when everything is at 100%. My laptop which also runs Windows 10, and Realtek is installed and working on that. When I used Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit for my PC, Realtek was installed and also worked fine on that. [could it be a sound card issue?]

I am currently running a HDMI cable from the screen into my graphics card, and the AUX cord from the Sub [and speakers] into the back of my screen. The sound works at the moment but the problem is that the volume is very LOW. I have tried enabling Loudness Equalization in the enhancement tab in the sound options [in the taskbar] and nothing made a difference, I have also tried running the AUX cable into the motherboard and sound card from the Sub, but no sound comes through.

Here are also pictures that show what the problems are.

I went to control panel and i shows that my Onboard audio is ok, but for some reason when i use my Logitech headset and microphone. The headset works but not the microphone. I checked it using it on my cousin computer and the microphone works well on hers. So im thinking it the Onboard thats not working, it was working a month back why not now. Is it anything i can do to fix this issue.

A:Onboard audio not working on my Windows Xp

Hi layana11,

Double click the speaker icon next to your clock in the bottom right of your monitor to open Volume Control. Then Options>Properties. Is there a tick in 'Microphone' if not click in the box and hit OK. Make sure that nothing is muted either.
Then in the Control panel, under the Audio tab>Sound recording>Volume, make sure nothing is muted there as well.

Have you tested your microphone in skype to see if it works?

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with Windows XP. Recently I was having problems getting Windows on (which I posted in a previous topic, thank you to all who tried to help), so I re-installed windows. Everything has re-installed without a hitch thus far, except my audio.

To test the audio, I turned on Windows Media Player and let it play one of its demo tunes. When I try to play, I get this message:

Windows Media Player Error

Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding.

There is an audio card installed, but to be honest, I don't exactly know what the audio card is. All the parts are Dell-installed, nothing has been added or removed. Running dxdiag shows no sound card, even though it was working fine before I re-installed Windows. Hardware isn't my specialty, I just use whatever the factory puts in. I tried running the Santa Cruz- Turtle Beach CD that came with my computer, and tried installing "Analog Devices AD1885 Integrated Audio Rev: A16", an audio driver that is on a Dell utility CD. I'm not sure if it just isn't detecting my audio card or if it's a driver problem.

So, I'm getting no sound, the computer isn't detecting an audio card, and I have no idea what to do. You guys here seem to be pretty knowledged, so I put this question before you. Thanks for your time and help.

For some reason my PC does not play sound anymore. I didn't do anything to it in fact everything was working fine the last time I used it. I was just surprised the moment I turned it on that I'm not getting any sounds!

I already tried windows troubleshooter and it said "Troubleshooter couldn't identify the problem". Already did a system restore but to no avail. Checked physical connections, tried using a different working headset but it still didn't play sound.

i already checked the device manager and it says the hardware is detected.

I hadn't used my computer yesterday, and when I picked it up this morning and went to use YouTube, I realized my sound wasn't working, even though the speaker icon in the taskbar says it is, and is on high volume. I made sure to test the YouTube volume and make sure that was on high too, and it was. Still no audio. I checked iTunes and other things that would make noise, and they don't work either. Now I know it's not just YouTube; it's my computer.

I checked the Device Manager, and it says everything under the Sound tab is working properly. When I Googled this problem, I saw that other people were having the same exact issue after a Windows Update, and they didn't know what to do. Unfortunately, no one replied to them yet. I decided I'd take the matter into my own hands and post something here, in hopes of finding a solution. I know it was caused by the Windows Update. My computer said it had an update yesterday, the day I hadn't been home to use the computer all day, and now it's messed up. I've tried restarting too, and that didn't fix anything. As far as I know, the audio is the only thing messed up. I haven't found anything else yet. If I do, I'll let you guys know.

I have Windows XP, if that's important to know. I have no clue what to do. Any help at all would be appreciated.

A:Audio not working after Windows Update?

Click "Start", then "Run", type: DXDIAG and click OK to get the DirectX troubleshooting menu. Wait until the check for WHQL sigs completes and then click the "Sounds" tab and run the tests. It might be a good idea to download the latest version of DirectX for Windows XP first. It's a web installer, so if you're not using IE, double click the file after you download it to start the installation. If you don't have the "Run" command on the Start menu, right click the Start button and go to "Properties". Click the "Customize" button and then scroll down the list and checkmark "Run". Then Apply/OK.

Hi.

I just finished a clean install of WinXP with SP2 using the disk that came with the computer. Then I used the driver disk to install the drivers. Lastly, I went to Windows Update (from the start menu). I downloaded, installed, and rebooted after the first 80 critical updates. Then I did the same after being prompted to install SP3. After the reboot and returning to the WU the little green bar just kept running - no updates showed in the browser. I went to the MSN homepage and was asked to upgrade my browser to IE8 and did. Then I noticed that the Automatic Updates popped up with new updates to install which I did.

I know there are other software and driver updates (although I won't install drivers from WU) and I would like to be able to get them if I need to - especially for MS Office, etc. I tried using a BAT file fix I found at the MS Knowledgebase but it didn't help.

I tried to attach my windows update log to this post but it's too big. It was also too long to paste and kept crashing IE8. So, if you can help but need to see it, please let me know how to post it.

Thanks.

This is the most important thing in toshiba drivers, because without this driver, the sound is terrible..

And now after updating to 1511 it's not working...

I reinstalled IDT AUDIO which latest driver is for 8.1 (2015 jan) and DTS Audio which is for WIndows 10 , but it doesn't work, I can turn it on / off change equalizers but nothing will change..

DTS: 6.10.6491.0
IDT: 1.2.41.0

I fixed this, I updated IDT Audio driver from device manager, and now DTS Audio is working..

Hello

First of all, my apologies if this same subject has been already dealt with in another post.

After updating the OS on my HP laptop from Windows 7 to 10, I experienced random sound issues (audio would stop working randomly). Messed around with drivers, audio stopped working altogether and, considering I was not impressed with Windows 10, I decided to go back to Windows 7 through an HP factory recovery procedure available on start-up.

Now I've got the laptop with Windows 7, everything works well except for no sound (usual loudspeaker icon with a red cross on it), as according to the OS there is no installed audio device.

I tried all the usual fixes (run Windows troubleshooter, search for updated audio drivers, etc.), including downloading and installing "IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver" which, according to the HP Support website, is the correct driver for my laptop. Unfortunately, the driver refuses to install, and I cannot solve the problem.

Could anyone suggest any other approach?

Many thanks in advance and don't hesitate to contact me if you need more details on the laptop or the OS.

Niccol?

Whenever I try to play .wmv files with Windows Media Audio V7 or V8, I can't hear anything. I've tried re-installing WMP but that did nothing. Does anyone know any codecs I can use so I am able to get some sound from WMA V7/V8 files?

Thanks.

I have a Gigabyte GA-F2A75m-HD2 (Rev 1.0) board and this is quite an odd one. The front port worked with Ubuntu and other Linux distros but it seems to be the opposite case with Windows 8.1. I installed the latest Gigabyte version of the Realtek HD Audio Manager but it still doesn't work. What should I do?

I have the codec ALC887

You might want to double check if you have the latest BIOS firmware.

Been through various threads, but none match my laptop model. HP Pavilion dv6-6c38tx Audio is working, but sounds like crap.. like what it sounded like when Beats Audio was turned off with Windows 7. Now that i've updated to Windows 10, beats audio is there, but does not effect the sound quality at all.  Switching through the equaliser it does nothing to improve the sound. I just want it sounding like it did before the update.  My only option now is to use Headphones all the time.

Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me with this issue as I have tried everything I can think of and it still happens.

Whenever I'm playing any sort of full screen game (Read as: Counter Strike, BF3, Shogun 2, Etc.) after about 5-20 mins I usually experience full sound loss. The game continues to run fine but it is if someone hit the mute button for it and I have no way to re-enable the sound unless I exit and restart the game.

Now while this is happening, if I tab out and view my sound mixer and drivers, everything is functioning fine, as well as everything on my desktop screen has sound. I can browse to youtube while the issue is occurring and play a song and it will play fine, if I'm in Skype with my friends talking that continues to work fine. It is always just the game I am playing.

I have recently also purchased a new analog sound headset and the issue is still occurring. I used to have a USB Headset that was experiencing the same issue.

I have restarted my computer multiple times, everything is up-to-date according to Windows Update, and yet the issue still exists.

Any further insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My girlfriend HP probook experiences the same issue. All I can say is to update your audio drivers from the manufactures of your machine website.

I have a dual boot Win 7, Win 8 setup. Suddenly the audio has stopped working on Win 8. (Works fine on Win 7) I checked for driver updates, even "installed" an old driver which didn't actually install. The volume control shows its trying to work, puff of green comes and goes at the bottom of the slider.

If you have had this problem and solved it please let me know. Other suggestions welcome however I've tried "cleaning" for other concerns and that made a real mess of the setups for several programs. I suppose I could do a refresh but that's equivalent to a re-install... what a pain.

A:Windows 8 Audio suddenly stopped working

I guess I looked in the wrong place for answers and they moved my posting to this area. Unfortunately it appears others have the same problem with no solution. I did try updating the video driver along with all available Win 8 updates. Still no audio.

I have all my programs running well on the Win 7 partition so I'm thinking of doing a Refresh. If that "refreshes" back to the original installation I assume the many many updates will be required. Any idea how long that will take?

I recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 10.
Now when I try to play videos, they sometimes either won't play at all, or will play extremely jittery. The audio sometimes doesn't work at all on the system. Sometimes both audio and video will work perfectly, but its very inconsistent.

I've tried most of the fixes I've found online:
Updating my audio and video card driversChecking "Use software rendering instead of GPU rending" and "Enable 64-bit processes for Enhanced Protection" under Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options > Advanced.Unchecking "Use hardware acceleration when available" in Chrome

EDIT:

Here is the drivers that worked on my 8600 GT (aparently, work on other Nvidia GPUs as well)*:

179.28 - HDMI Audio works fine, no overscanning, full function, no problems with unwanted clocks.

182.50 - HDMI Audio works fine, no overscanning, full function, no problems with unwanted clocks. (Possible best solution, so far)

190.56 - HDMI Audio works fine, OVERSCANNED, crazy clocks (boost on full 3d clock when opening windows with Aero enabled, and after the clock boosts it only go down after rebooting the system)**

Soon I'll post a list of drivers I already tried and the AUDIO didn't work.

**: For more info about the clock problem, check on this thread on laptopvideo2go forums: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/top...-64bit-nvidia/

I installed Windows 10 and now my DVD rom is not working. It just stopped working overnight.  I didn't have time to deal with this when it happened but recently I have updated all the HP drivers and also Microsoft is up to date. I have looked at numerous fixes but nothing has resolved this problem. The drive spins but it will not read any kind of disc. It just does not recognise there is a disc in the drive. It opens and I receive the message "insert disc." The DVD rom drive is a GU90NWhen I go into device manager it shows the CDROM drive and says it is enabled and working properly. When I try and update the driver it says I have the latest (although the date of the driver is 21/06/2006) I am out of warranty on the laptop but it is less than 2 years old. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks,Nel
