How the HDMI Audio works from my GTX 560TI to my Asus HD Screen(MS228)

Q: How the HDMI Audio works from my GTX 560TI to my Asus HD Screen(MS228)

Hey Guys

I have a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX560 TI Graphics card connected via HDMI to my Asus Screen.

On the back of the screen there is an HDMI Audio out port. (No speakers part of the screen)

How do I get the HDMI Audio play through earphones? And can I in turn connect this through my computer as i do have wireless USB earphones. (Which obviously won't work from the screen port )

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been trying to figure this out for some time.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Processor: i5 760
Graphics: Gigabyte GTX 560 TI
Screen: Asus HD MS 228 21.5" LED LCD Monitor
Ram: 4GB DDR3

A: How the HDMI Audio works from my GTX 560TI to my Asus HD Screen(MS228)

Rayzr welcome to the Seven Forums.

With a USB headset you would be better off forgetting about HDMI and just plugging it into the computer. You have to remember that a USB headset or speakers is treated as a separate sound card and has and uses its own driver.

No sound.
Little speaker with the red 'x' appeared yesterday
I have gone through the whole update drivers circus to no avail, my laptop can't detect that it has speakers built in so it doesn't bother finding a driver for them.

This is where I am at:
- Intel Display Audio is the only driver installed for sound
- This means that sound works when the laptop is plugged into an HDMI
- When HDMI is not plugged in, the computer cannot find the built in speakers.
- I have Linux on this system and audio does not work there as well

I would call this a broken chipset, but the fact that the computer still processes audio with the HDMI cable attached is confusing me. Also, the 'audio board' for this laptop has 2 usb ports attached to it, and those both work fine.

Any help would be appreciated

My front USB slots work and every connector on the rear works fine yet when
i plug headphones into the front audio jack and nothing is detected.

My Bios are updated to the latest version, i have also tried switching to AC97 but makes no difference. Swapping between HDMI and s/pdif doesn't also does nothing.

The case is a fairly cheap case being a SHAW GT-M2 although it is new.

I have a dual boot of Windows 7 and OSX Lion the front doesn't work with either.

All drivers are up to date with no yellow ! in device manager

A:No front Panel audio detected but Rear Audio works on Asus P8H 61-M LX

Check to make sure that the front panel audio cable is actually plugged into the audio header on the motherboard. If the motherboard has HD audio and the front panel has a plug marked HD-Audio, then plug that into the motherboard. Make sure that it is correctly lined up, otherwise the front panel won't work correctly.

I need help!

Okay so I hooked up all my parts last night to my ASUS Crosshair Formula V mobo and when I boot it will not show any video whatsoever. No beeps, no video no nothing.

I have a 560ti in there right now because I wanted to test it before my new 970 came in that I ordered yesterday, just wanted to see if the mobo was functional and all my other components were working.

Does anyone know why I would be getting no video? I was thinking maybe I need to reset the CMOS? Some people told me to check the BIOS but how do I do that if I have zero video on my screen?

Any help would be great as I am at wit's end with this stupid computer, it has not run right since I moved and it is extremely frustrating putting all this time and money into this thing with no results.

I used to have a Corsair Liquid CPU cooler but the pump died and I finally got fed up with Liquid Coolers and went with a Noctua heat sink instead. Going to do some more testing after work but was hoping to get some tips from you guys. I have 2 other 560ti's I can test to see if that card is just dead but it was like midnight and just decided to give up for the night last night.

Also, My motherboard doesn't have an on-board video port I don't believe, I see none at least =\

My PC was up and running with drivers loaded for this exact card before it went down, the computer has just been sitting there for months. I am using the same hard drive, only thing that has changed is the Noctua... Read more

A:Video issue with Asus Crosshair V and 560ti GPU

Let's do this one step at a time, first no part of any computer lasts for ever. U said u had 2 other video cards, first, see if either one of them will work. If that does not work, it could be the slot in the mother board, try an other X16 slot. but honestly to me it sounds like the mother board is not working if u have a speaker plugged into it and assuming the speaker is working because normally there would be beeps if the motherboard is not sending a video signal.

Hey everyone, new to this site, I've got a bit of a problem with my audio with my new installation of Windows 7. Previously I had Vista installed, and had no problems with my Realtek HD audio. Installed Windows 7 everything looked good, then realized my Sony A/V receiver model SA-WCT100 was not outputting my movie collection in surround 5.1 like it use to using Vista. I figured, that?s cool, probably need to install ac3filter_1_51a, I had to in Vista, and it worked a treat when I enabled SPDIF pass through. I guess I should mention I?m using HDMI all the way through, from my PC to the receiver, from the receiver to the LCD. Well, that didn't fix it, everything still plays in stereo. After scratching my head and clicking here and there, I finally found a little tab in the sound settings of my Realtek HDMI setting called 'Custom'. I selected it, it said to enable AC3, DTS, etc click this box will require a restart. I said awesome, sounds like just what I need. I clicked, and rebooted. I went into WMC, and setup my audio wizard again, and selected 5.1, and tested, and this time it reported 5.1 on my Sony receiver as before it only showed 2 channels (Stereo). I played some of my DVD rips, and bam my DVD rips were playing surround sound again. I was like that was easy enough. I went to test my Blu-Ray rips that I had converted to WMV HD using TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0, and the video started to play, and I was like, wheres the damn sound. I noticed on the receiver, it didn't r... I built a barebone kit and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, I installed all the drivers correctly but for some reason Windows keeps detecting the front audio jack as if someone is repeatedly pushing in and out headphones(no pun intended). Audio doesn't work at all through front and back audio jacks, only HDMI. I only get static from the audio jacks.

A:HDMI Sound Works but Audio Jack Doesn't

Possibly defective front panel headphone/mic connector/cable or problem with case front panel. Most cases have both an HD audio and an AC97 connector for the front panel, that plugs into the motherboard. Normally, the HD Audio should be used. If you are using the HD Audio connection, try the AC97. If you are using the AC97, use the HD Audio instead.

If neither of the connectors change anything, and the audio works OK with the rear connections (with no front panel connection to the motherboard), the problem would appear to be in the case front panel assembly.

Hello, a bit stumped on this one.  I have had the XPS 2710 since Nov and use the HDMI input (aka use my XPS 2710 as a monitor) for my Xbox 360 and my PS3 from time to time.  The video still works great but I no longer am receiving any audio using the hdmi this way. The PS3 and 360 still work fine using HDMI on my AV Rec but not when connected to the XPS.
Here is what I have tried so far. . .
A different HDMI Cable
Updating the RealTek drivers
Updating the nVidia drivers
Updating the Intel drives------------------------------------------------
Only thing I see listed in my Sounds settings are  the Speakers and the RealTek optical out.
Nothing seems to be disabled under sounds or device manager.  Thanks for your suggestions.

Hello everyone, you guys seem to know your stuff so Ill ask for your help:

I have a frustrating problem with my brand new XPC Shuttle computer. Everything works fine, just not sound. I tried hooking up the computer via HDMI to a TV for the first time as I didnt have a monitor - sound works just fine. Then later I removed the casing and installed 4 more Gbs of RAM for a total of 8. In order to do this I had to remove and reinsert the videocard. Computer was never on during that procedure.

Now, I cannot for the love of God make this computer produce sound trough the (correctly) connected audio jacks while it is hooked up to a proper pc monitor - Ive tried with numerous speaker/headphone devices which all are in mint condition (confirmed with other devices).

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. In the sound manager down in the corner it said at first only "Realtek Digital Output". I figured this could mean that somehow, using HDMI cable (as it was the first monitor I used the system on) that the system defaulted on a HDMI output for sound. It would not show bars for anything else, and Speaker/Headphone devices were listed as "not connected" - despite clearly being so. It seemed at first like a problem with drivers - classic stuff. Please dont go there: Drivers are installed, up to date.

Then I launched Realtek HD audio manager and checked the box "Disable front panel jack detection" - as instructed by the program in case I had proble... Read more

I was moving our Dell Studio 17 laptop and the screen went blank. I thought it did a power save or something. But I could not get it redisplay flickers, nothing.

I rebooted, nothing.

I opened up the back and reseated the ram and verified the hard drives were secure. I vacuumed out any dust. No difference.

So I tried using the HDMI with our TV and it displays just fine. I try to toggle the screen (function F8 on my laptop) and it makes no difference. HDMI is always shown.

In the past when we use the HDMI to display netflix movies on our TV, I hookup the HDMI and the laptop automatically switches to the HDMI display and turns off the laptop display. When I unplug the HDMI, it wouldnt turn the laptop screen back on. I would have to reboot with the HDMI disconnected for the display to come back.

Now rebooting doesnt not bring the screen back.

Anything else to try? are there settings somewhere forcing the laptop to not send info to its own screen? BIOS?

This laptop has an ATI card and uses the latest drivers. It does have the Catalyst control center where it detects the displays. It seems the 'unknown' laptop screen and TV (when HDMI is connected, the only way I can see the screen at this time)..but it calls them duplicates and calls both of them #1 display.

Thanks for the help

The problem started as a HDMI-cable was plugged into my running Satellite T130-17E and the screen was closed down. From that point the notebook screen stopped working. When booting the windows start-up logo is on for a couple of seconds and just before the entering the desktop the cursor is visible on the screen. But except from these short moments there is no action on the notebooks screen. When I reinstalled the driver to the graphic card there was some short moments (less than 0,5 sec) when the screen was active.

I can use the notebook without any problems via HDMI to my TV. And when I adjust the screens brightness (FN+F6/F7) the black screen can get more back-lighted.

When I turn off the HDMI-output or plugs it out - nothing happens on the notebooks screen.

Can some of you please try to help me out as I really need my notebook to work normal again. If you can help me sort out this problem I'll be very grateful-

Kind Regards,
Jacob Lindberg

Confused - help!
I get black screen when booting right after splash-screen w. Windows 7 (64-bit sys. in dual boot w. XP-SP3) - but the problem is only there when i have a HDMI-cable attached to the HD4670 card (with or WO my Samsung PS50C7700 hooked up at the other end of the HDMI-cable?).
With no HDMI attached to the grafics-card Windows 7 boots fine!
(EIZO-monitor S2110W on DVI all the time).

So no HDMI in Windows 7 - or what?!?

I have the HD4670 card running on the exact same hardware in Win XP-SP3 (same machine, dual boot) - and it's working just fine in XP-SP3 (WO sound on HDMI though...). What is this all about - pls help :}

Asus P5Q-Pro (BIOS v. 1613), Intel E8400/3Ghz, 8 GB OCZ PC-6400 DDR-2, Sapphire ULTIMATE HD4670 (512 GDDR-3) w. Catalyst 12.2, Windows 7 Home Premium (dual boot w. XP-SP3 on separate HD's). RAID-enabled system w. 1 GB RAID-1 storage attached.

A:HDMI on HD4670/Win7-64 = Black Screen on Start-Up! (works on XP-SP3?)

Had exactly the same problem.

I did two things to fix; First I lowered the resolution to 1280x1024 and it worked, but that drove me crazy, so I bought a Intel card with 1gb of video memory, which I'm told is the minimum one should use if one wishes to use HDMI HD 1920x1080. It probably would have worked fine with an ATI as well, but with at least 1gb of RAM.

The card I bought was a Gigabyte GTX 450 and I might have been able to go lower, but since it was only $90 I figured it was worth it.

If you have a card with 1gb perhaps you could give that a try, or try lowering the resolution and (maybe), color depth.

The machine in question was Windows Server 2008 R2, but hey, it's essentially the same as windows 7.

Just my 2 cents worth.

This is on a loptop Meldon E6882, running windows 7, to a LED TV HD.

From a cold boot both the laptop monitor and HDMI screen show the windows starting screen .. But the HDMI screen goes blank when the login screen appears.

I have tried different screen resolutions. No Luck.

I have tried from the 'screen resolution' page to get automatically detect the HDMI - No luck

I have tried from the 'screen resolution' page to manually select HDMI. Only offers VGA or component, no HDMI.

I think this maybe a disabled driver as I did a manual disabling of these some time ago in order to try and reduce the boot time. I cannot recall the names of the drivers I have put into manual start (some time ago), nor have I found any info on what drivers are needed for the HDMI. The screen driver is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000.

Any hints? I'd like to look at some video on the larger screen...

Everything has worked flawlessly for a month. It even booted the first time I turned it on which is rare with my luck. So a couple days ago I turn my pc on, the startup screen comes on, then the pc shuts down. When I turn it on again, two things happen 1.) My video card fan is now spinning at top speed(or faster) and is extremely loud. 2.) I now am not getting monitor connectivity. So I jump to two possibilities, either a.) the video card just had a heart attack or b.) my power supply is having a heart attack. After reviewing, however, everything else is powering up fine, the motherboard, hdd, cpu all seem to be getting power, also, when I try a different video card in (albeit a less wattage card) it boots up fine. So it seems to point to the video card and not the psu. When I talked to a Zotac tech he seemed to agree it could be a connectivity issue on the card that isn't allowing it to interface with my pc. It's gotten to be a confusing issue mainly because no one else seems to have gotten an issue quite like this with this card.

So fast forward to today. I get home from class and decide to give it the old college try. I hook up the card, start it up, and it sounds fine. No loud fan, and I get connectivity from the monitor. I even went as fa... Read more

I just installed Windows 8 Pro on a new machine.

I carried over my HD7970 from my old Windows 7 machine. I had absolutely no issues with audio in Windows 7, but Windows 8 has been a huge pain in the ass.

I have two displays, an HDTV connected through HDMI and an older LCD connected via DVI.

All my audio comes through the TV. In fact, I've disabled the onboard audio device on the motherboard. So I am strictly using the Radeon card for audio.

One thing I noticed is that the Audio tab in the Catalyst Control Center says "Your displays do not support audio...", but it shows my Panasonic TV in the Playback devices. The playback does work, but I get weird mutes.

If I go full screen in Youtube or Netflix the sound mutes for like 30 seconds. When I do ANYTHING (change tabs in Chrome, click a link, move windows around in a VM) on the other display, the sound mutes for 30 seconds. I basically am unable to do anything on my other display while something is streaming. It's irritating beyond belief.

Does anyone have a solution for me?

A:HDMI Audio issues. Full screen video mutes (and more).

Well, for a while my problem was solved. I uninstalled the Realtek drivers (since I wasn't using the device) and reinstalled the AMD drivers and all seemed fine for a while. But I just started my computer up after I had put it to sleep and it's doing the same thing again, even after a restart.

Going to reinstall the AMD drivers again.

Hi there

Brilliant little device for passing HDMI (less HDCP !!) plus RCA L, R Audio and 5.1 Optical Audio (SPDIF). Switchable audio pass thru,, 2Ch, 5.1 ch.
(Max HDMI input is 1080p so won't work for your 4K huge TV's though) - still an excellent little device for those who want to record from HDMI video.

(IMO the cheap ones are better than the expensive boxes as the expensive boxes don't strip HDCP from the HDMI output making some content not re-cordable with video capture devices or even software such as Audials).

A:Windows 7 - HDMI out no audio - Intel HDMI audio

Try to set the SPDIF as the default audio device. That might work.

If it doesn't, try updating audio driver.

At last, as you said, your GPU driver is the last one, still, the problem might be right there. Usually, when the device manager shows the HDMI audio as functional and it still doesn't work, it's probably a GPU driver issue.

Try switching your GPU driver to older but stable versions.

On my case, nVidia drivers area always a pain in the *ss, so, when I successfully find a good and stable driver I stick with it for a long long time.

A:Realtek HDMI+NVIDIA = no sound+frezze screen using pc rear audio jack

Please clarify, are you using HDMI connection to your display monitor and audio? Or are you using a standard DVI or VGA PC monitor? And, are you using the RealTek PC audio to speakers? Or are you using the HDMI connection to speakers?

If you are using the RealTek, your "Speakers" should be set as the default audio playback device. If you are using HDMI connection (or have an HDMI cable connected to the PC) Windows will automatically default the playback device to HDMI and if you are using the PC's RealTek you will have to manually change the default playback device.

The problem with freezing and buzz with game play is not an "audio" problem. The buzz is just the result of the freezing which is some other PC problem. Either a Video issue that is causing the PC to hang, or some other hardware problem that is causing the PC to hang.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

A:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

Hello quick question so i'm clear and to see what you would suggest.

I have a new upgrade LG 55 inch 4k TV connected to my PC via HDMI to GTX970 I've read this TV supports audio also via the same HDMI cable plugged in to my video card. I'm a huge gamer.

Right now I have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card connected to a 4.1 Logitech setup w/sub. I've been using this for years and it works great for surround sound when available and EAX is always a plus SO whats my benefit to 86 the 4.1 and just go HDMI?

In that case I lose the 4 speaker setup correct and just use audio from the TV?? I can't see the advantage for this unless i'm missing something big. I don't use SPDIF output or the Dolby digital or DTS encoder from the card I assume all that you need a receiver.

Can I use HDMI output for audio and STILL use my 4.1 speakers? I don't want to invest in a receiver or anything like that at this point. What would you do if you were me? i'm at work now but I read if I go into the sound properties/playback devices I can choose HDMI output? I'm curious to see how that works.

A:HDMI cable for audio or keep my 4.1 w/soundcard? need help w/HDMI

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. e.g. HDMI or Speakers (your sound card). HDMI audio is generated on a sound chip in the Video card. You don't have all the options you do with a Sound card.

A:HDMI audio problem when connecting LCD TV to PC via HDMI

This is more of a HDMI handshaking issue than a Windows or driver issue, and a very common occurrence. Sadly if you do a Google search using "hdmi handshake no audio" for the search terms, you'll get lots of results but very little in the way of how to solve. About the best solution I came across is this one,

A lot of that thread deals with the Asus Xonar sound cards, but there is also quite a bit about the no audio in general.

Alright here's my situation:

I have a Core2Duo PC running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, hooked up to my TV using a HDMI cable. This has been working fine for 2 years now. Yesterday I decided to add some more RAM to this PC (4 GB instead of the standard 2 GB to be exact). I know 32 bit will only read 3 GB but I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit later.

Anyway I booted up the computer, worked fine of course, even watched a movie or two without problems. Then this morning I booted up the PC and I suddenly noticed the volume icon saying that there were no audio devices detected! I checked under Hardware and there are no audio devices whatsoever! So my HDMI cable is still giving me picture but no sound! Seeing as I'm using onboard audio I immediately booted into the BIOS and although I couldn't find a specific option that said onboard audio I did see something audio related being "HDA" (I assume HD audio) on automatic, the other option was ACRealtek97 or something. However it was enabled so no luck there.

Does anyone know how all of a sudden my HDMI cable isn't providing audio anymore? I even checked my Nvidia card which also stated that HDMI audio was enabled.

I hope anyone can help me, thanks in advance.

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop 57362-4790 running Win 7 with all the latest updates. Audio is an Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI, and Realteck HDMI.

Because I had no headphone output with the computer connected to my TV via the HDMI out I ran the Windows audio trouble shooter. I got a messaage "non standard audio detected" and Windows did something. Now my headphone jack works, but I have no audio on the TV from the HDMI connection.

I've checked both the Intel and Realtime audio controlers and gotten the message, "Device working properly."

I've searched both Intel and Realtime for new drivers and gotten the message, "Best driver already installed."

Opening sound, clicking on playback, clicking on configure, selecting speaker and clicking on test gives test tones out of both the left and right speakers on the TV. Going back to the web, still no sound!

Does anyone have any idea what Windows did and more importantly how do I undo it and get sound back on the TV through the HDMI connection?

Thanks for looking at this story, and any help you can give.

A:No HDMI audio after running Win 7 audio trouble shooter

Use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to whatever you did. That should return it to how it was configured. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or emails.

I just got a new (cascaded) computer with seemingly no standard audio.

The audio icon is a speaker with and X through it and the only audio device that populates the Playback Devices list is the HDMI digital audio.

I have audio on the motherboard (think I can find it?? nope) and some auxiliary ins and outs on the front of the PC (headphone, line in).

No audio will output whatsoever. Keep in mind I will not be using the HDMI audio.

No headphones and no "X"s in the device manager...

um... any help would be appreciated! Thanks

A:No Audio, HDMI (unplugged), No Audio device listed

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. What is listed there? The HDMI and Speakers should be listed. If that is the case make the Speakers the default playback device.

If the Speakers are not listed, RIGHT click in a blank area on the panel and check the Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices and then if the Speakers are shown you can make them the default playback device.

If there is still no speaker, you can check the Device Manager to see if the sound is listed (could be RealTek or IDT) and if it is check to see if there is an error code,

As this is a new PC and you can't get it working it would be best to contact HP support. If there is some problem only HP can get it corrected under warranty.

Not sure if this is possible, but thought I'd toss it out there... I'd like to have audio sent via HDMI to my monitor while at the same time using the MoBo output jack for a subwoofer. I've only been successful with one or the other by itself in any configuration I've been able configure.

Any thoughts?

A:HDMI Audio AND Realtek MoBo Audio Simultaneously

Does your monitor have an Audio Out? Some do. If it does, HDMI to the monitor, then audio out from the monitor to your subwoofer. Mind you plugging something into the audio out may turn off the monitors internal speakers. You won't know until you try
But…here’s the kicker! A subwoofers job is to not only produce lower frequencies but to also blend nicely into its satellites (speakers). This is most commonly accomplished by either designing the sub and satellites to work together in that the lower cut off frequency of the satellites is close to the higher cut off frequency of the subwoofer. The other is to have an adjustable crossover that will allow you to match the subwoofers higher cut off frequency to that of the satellites lower cut off frequency. You also need to match their output (sound) so that they are even (or close enough!). Otherwise you will get a lot of boom from the sub and not be able to hear much from the monitor.
Monitors with built in speakers are not designed with fidelity in mind. They have tiny amplifiers and do not go very loud without sounding terribly distorted. Even if your monitor does have an audio out, you may be presented with the impossible challenge in trying to match it to your subwoofer. Honestly, you are better off purchasing a 2.1 (or 5.1) computer speaker system. You can get something pretty decent for not too much money.

Hi there, first post from newbie.

I'm pretty proficient with general use on computers and I want to install W7 pro x64 on my new rig.

On the Asus website driver support only goes to vista, and I have read that the vista x64 drivers are not supported for W7. Can anyone give me a tutorial on how to install W7 on this machine please?

I get into installation and it asks for a CD/DVD drive device driver is needed to carry on etc. I am just wondering if that is a driver for the DVD ROM or another device on the mobo.

Thanks in advance, would really appreciate the help!

A:Installing W7 on Asus P5E-VM HDMI how?

The request for a device driver usually indicates a corrupt installation disk, sometimes due to a bad burn from an .iso.

Windows 7 includes lot of drivers, although not all. You may be able to find Win7 drivers for all of the components on your motherboard. The specs on the board are here:

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5E-VM HDMI

I don't know where to get updated drivers for the Atheros L1 network device. Vista drivers can probably be used, in a pinch.

A:No audio from rear jack & no hdmi audio

I'm pretty certain that there is a cable that you have to connect from your sound card to your gfx card...

Sound over HDMI from GPU

If you have a Radeon HD 4xxx series or newer it should be setting up your HDMI by itself, though you may need a driver from the website.

Also, check to make sure that when you're hooking up to your TV via HDMI that your sound options have HDMI/S-PDIF as default...

In your sound control, located in the control panel, be sure that the hdmi device is set as the default. The hdmi device choice will be there if you're plugged up to your hdtv.

hows your video connected? I'm guessing through HDMI or you using a vga,dvi or display port instead>? Are you trying to get audio through regular speakers? I ask if your video is connected through HDMI because that could be the cause because the video and sound both go through the HDMI cord and should project sound through the tv if it's connected through the HDMI.

I powered my computer back up and just got a black screen through the hdmi on my gpu (worked fine before removing fan). I switched over to the dvi on my gpu and got a display. I have tried fresh install of drivers, I have checked all hardware and cables are seated properly. I have tried 2 monitors and different hdmi cables.
I have also had 2 monitors plugged in to hdmi and dvi, I then checked nvidia control panel which detected both ports and both monitors but the hdmi still shows black.

I've enjoyed a lot of the useful information from you all on this forum. My problem is that when I connect my Acer Aspire 5810T Laptop to my Asus Monitor MT276 via HDMI, I get video on my Asus but no sound through its speakers. I'm getting sound through my laptop though.

I'm unable to see the HDMI sound icon when I use "Manage Audio Devices" even though I checked to show disabled and disconnected devices. I think it may be because of my graphics or sound card (which I've tried updating via device manager but still no luck).

My system specs are to the right and if you require any other information let me know. Any suggestions on how I can get sound through the monitor's speakers?

I now get sound and video via HDMI through my Asus monitor. The way I got it to work was by updated my chipset driver to an older version.

Steps I took:
1) Go to Device Manager
2) Open Display Adapters and right click and select Update Driver Software
3) Select Browse my computer for driver software
4) Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
5) I then was given a list of drivers and selected the oldest version (2/26/09)

I restarted my computer and plugged in the HDMI and the HDMI icon magically showed up when I went into Playback Devices.

I have updated the OP to show my solution. Thank you all for your help. You guys have a very good community here.

A:No sound via HDMI to ASUS Monitor

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel. If you have HDMI Audio, there will be an icon for this. Set this as the default playback device and that should get you HDMI Audio.

Hello all,

I've built a PC using an Asus P5G41T-M mobo w/ an HDMI connector. I'm currently using an nVidia GT220 hooked to a Dell monitor at 1920x1080 (VGA). I can't seem to get the PC to recognize the HDMI port. The manual is pretty slim and only mentions that an HDMI port exists. On the Asus web site (after filling out lots of extraneous info) I was able to register and check out their 'support' forum. Not much help there. There was a small article about the HDMI working only if there was nothing plugged into the (onboard) VGA or DVI. I'm not using any onboard video, I'm using the nVidia. Is there some setting in Win7 that I need to check? I generally use Linux, but this is a PC I will be using for video editing (converting old VHS tapes to DVD).

A:HDMI not recognized on Asus mobo

wftomlin, welcome to the Seven Forums.

There is nothing you can do in Windows (or Linux for that matter) to get around what you are trying to do, it is entirely a hardware/bios issue. Not sure what is in the paper manual but the PDF version from here,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5G41T-M

has enough to go on for the most part. The problem is that in a lot of cases the onboard video gets disabled when a video card is detected, and usually not much that can be done about it. In the case of your motherboard it may be possible if you go into the bios to the Chipset section and set the "Initiate Graphic Adapter" to [PEG/IGD],

No promises but that should allow for the onboard video to be used at the same time as the video card.

P.S. Does your GT 200 not have a HDMI port as well? If it does and you only have one monitor connected to the card, you can use it instead of trying to get the one for the onboard video to work.

Is this the monitor?

If so it doesn't have any speakers in it. What it has is a headphone jack on the back, which would require self powered speakers of headphones to get sound from it.

P.S. You also don't have the driver for the built in audio, as it is showing as "high definition audio device". It would show the proper name of whatever the built in audio is (Realtek, IDT, etc) with the proper driver installed.

Sometimes this can be a "Handshaking" Issue. Try powering down the laptop and unplug the monitor. (never plug or un plug HDMI while hot) when you have the hdmi cable plugged in, plug power to monitor and restart, that may help.

Hii All,
I want to have a better performance than windows-xp with my Asus M3N HD HDMI m'board, so i decided to opt for Windows-7 os..... I tried searching for the Ethernet and audio drivers for windows-7...but found that the Asus is still under issues of its own sweet time in releasing the drivers for Windows-7. Could any one suggest me better options, I have been waiting for these drivers since a long for almost 6months. I was told that windows-7 has its own inbuilt drivers but I am in a dilemma weather it would slow down the performance of my system...... Windows-7 os with the right drivers would really boost my working time by a better rendering speed and a better out put of my 3D game models, textures and assets.

I have done a complete google R&D regarding the windows-7 drivers for Asus M3N HD HDMI m'board.......finaly ended up trying my luck in this forum. Plz help!!!!!

Try using Vista drivers. If they don't work, then your motherboard just doesn't support Windows 7. Consider replacing the motherboard.

Basically the system starts fans turn drives spin and it shuts down with no post, and it does this in a loop for anywhere between 15-20 boots and then it will post and boot up as normal. Tried the board with a AMD 3800+ and booted 1st time, not convinced there is a problem with the cpu as ive stress tested it and its fine. So ive updated the bios with the lastest version still no change. Once the pc boots i can shut it down leave it and go back to it and it starts first time which is weird! ive ordered a different board cause i think its bios releated. Any ideas guys??

Oh and the CPU is supported by this board according to ASUS website and ive tried it with less memory, different memory, no drives connected and 2 different PSU's.

I've tried to download the audio drivers for the maximus formula, but I believe this goes to the sound card that comes with the mobo, which I am not using. When I try to install, it says that it doesn't match my hardware, and aborts.

Soo, fast forward to my problem, I am using HDMI which works fine, except that every time my computer goes into power save (sleep) mode, instead of the tv/monitor also going into sleep mode as it did with VGA, it just says No signal then after a few minutes of no signal, it turns it self completely off...

The problem with this is that every time I want to wake the computer up, I also have to turn the TV/Monitor back on as it has shut itself off completely instead of just "Power save" mode..

The motherboard's DVI port is a DVI-D port, so I can't simply just use a DVI-I - VGA adaptor...

Is there any kind of solution for me? I've got to use either the HDMI, DVI-D or Display Port as those are the only ones that are supported both by Windows and OSX.

Hi Guys,
I recently purchased Asus HD 5450 1GB GDDR3 DVI VGA HDMI for my new machine that has Windows 7 64 bit. I got this graphics card thinking that I could have my two monitors and my tv connected, using all three ports. However, i have since found out that this cannot be done. I can have all 3 connected but i have to disable one monitor or my tv. My question is, what else do I need to buy to get the 3rd display working. I don't fancy buying another graphics card to be honest.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Basically another graphics card. You could try a DVI splitter, but I don't know if they can do anything besides clone it.

I've got a serious stability issue with Windows 7 on an Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboard.

The display drivers continually crash and I get a "the graphics driver stopped responding and recovered" or something to that effect. The screen flashes numerous times. Sometimes it recovers, but lately and more often it's just been crashing to a blue screen stating igdkmd64.sys as the culprit (Intel Graphics Driver (igd?))..

I'm unsure what to do from here, the system is to the point where it's becoming unusable.

Any help would be appreciated. If there's some kind of logging or diagnostic tool output I could give you to help diagnose, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same board and just started getting the same problem. I think it is due to low memory.

I had two 2GB sticks and pulled one out temporarily to use in another machine and got the error. I am running Windows 7 x64 Professional. How much memory do you have?

BTW I just added a radeon HD4550 and so far no more BSOD

Hi Everyone,

This is a strange and baffling problem. I&#8217;m not a complete novice and spent a lot time and tried many different things trying to solve it on my own, but nothing worked. Please bear with me as I&#8217;ll do my best to describe the situation.

Some time ago, I decided to build a budget pc to serve mainly as an HTPC of sorts. The idea was to spend the bare minimum initially and then upgrade the system as I go along. I therefore opted for a mobo that has (what I thought was) decent onboard graphics and HDMI output (ASUS M4A78LT-M) so that I could hook it up directly to my TV (Toshiba Regsa). As I mostly work on my laptop, I don&#8217;t have a computer screen (and no real reason to buy one).

Here are the system&#8217;s specs:
Mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0Ghz
CPU cooler: Stock
RAM: 4GB (2 X Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600; 3.25GB usable)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500GB
ODD: Pioneer DVR-A18LBK</SPAN>
OS: Windows 7 Professional (32bit, SP1)
From the start the video outputs gave me a headache. Working with the VGA connection, I was trying to install Windows XP on the machine, but the screen kept going blank after POST and giving the onscreen message &#8220;&#8220;unsupported video format&#8221;. I almost gave up thinking it was a compatibility issue with my TV or that the modo was DOA, but then I tried to install Windows 7 and suddenly everything worked fine. After installing the OS, I updated the bios to t... Read more

Hi everyone,

I have been struggling with this for weeks - whenever I plug my computer into a TV through an HDMI cable, the screen visual transfers perfectly but no sound comes through the TV.

Please note that I have scoured the forums and have tried all of the basic suggestions that people have given:
-HDMI or similar does not show up in 'Playback Devices'
-All of my drivers are up to date

I am running Windows 8.1. I have an ASUS Q550L notebook (can see all the specs here: Asus 15.6" TouchScreen Laptop Intel Core i7 8GB Memory 1TB Hard Drive Q550LF-BSI7T21 - Best Buy)

I have researched and researched but have found nothing to help me. I have an AMD 7750 dual core processor and 2x ati radeon x1300 gc's. I have downloaded the latest drivers for it several times. Restarted. Messed with resolutions. Restarted. Nothing is working. It's got to be something simple.

2 Things
1) The hdmi output works on startup, but goes black/unsupported by monitor when windows 7 pops up with choosing a user.

2)When I have the "normal" plug in for the computer in it works fine, but after i plug in the hdmi, the normal plug goes to the secondary screen (as in dual moniters) and I switch the input on the tv to the hdmi input that, obviously, the hdmi cord is plugged into and I get unsupported signal. And I am pretty sure the computer thinks that the hdmi cable would be the main screen. Not 2nd screen.

Please help. I have been at it for about 5 hours.

Btw, my monitor is a 40" sony bravia.

This is driving me insane, cant find a solution on the internet and can't figure it out myself. It worked fine in windows 7 but now when I choose "duplicate display" from the side menu popup the tv goes blank as if Ive unplugged the hdmi. All 3 of the remaining display options work including the extend display and tv only setting so its not a cable issue. Laptop model is XPS 17 L702X. Now when I used to do it in win 7 sometimes it wouldnt autodetect it so I would have to right click desktop, open invidia up and click rigorous display detect or something like that and then laptop screen would blink and make the beep noise like when hdmi cable got connected. Now in the invida panel it just simply wont allow mirroring, nothing happens when I right click on the display box that would normally show 1 and a smaller box would say 2. I dont get it but Id really like that feature back If its something simple I could do.

A:Duplicate monitor to TV via hdmi no longer works

Ive actually seen a lot of people having this problem from the google search results I get but it seems like everyone either gets it situated and never reposts solution, or is so fed up that they just revert to 7 or 8.1 or whatever os actually had this feature working. Ive seen multiple screenshots of "duplicate display" as an option in the dropdown options when pin display settings however mine only shows "extend" "only 1" and "only 2" but if I hit win-p I get all 4 options but duplicate just wont work, the tv goes blank and gives me the message you get when i unplug the hdmi. Extend works fine as well as "only 2" which shows the screen on the tv and blacks my laptop screen. It's not even a major problem because now that im using "only 2" I actually prefer it but now its become one of those computer puzzles thats driving me crazy because I cant solve it. I think it has something to do with the combination of nvidia and intel graphics because the nvidia control panel options have changed as well, no longer showing laptop screen under the intel line but I clean installed the nvidia driver so I cant imagine updating a driver would take away features. I dont know, but id sure like to know whats causing this to not work.

hi everyone, new member here just need an answer to this question.

i have a new HP Entertainment Laptop with an nVidia 9600GT graphics card and plenty of memory. it has an HDMI output which i like to connect to my HDTV. while i have no problem getting a picture/sound out of the TV through HDMI, after a couple of minutes of output being on, the TV will go black and the sound cuts off. i remove the HDMI cable and the laptop takes the screen again (from dualview) the video that was playing on my TV will now be playing on my laptops screen with no sound until i close/re-open it again.

any ideas why my tv is conking out? a video file doesnt necesarilly have to be playing to make it die out, sometimes it flickers on/off as well but lately its been just completely cutting out.

UPDATE! - so i had been running a video file off my external drive when it crashed, so instead i put it on my primary drive and played it, still blacked out after a couple minutes. but one thing i did notice is that my TV seems to be frozen. none of the button on the remote work except for power... could my TV be crapping out? i know the HDMI works on the TV, i use my PS3 all the time on it.

I have an XCPS M1730 running Windows 7. Recently the screen would go black intermittently. As I used the computer, the instances would occur more frequently and last longer until it would just stay black and not come back up at all. I can see light if I look closely and cup my hands, but no image.
The perplexing part was that when I plugged a TV in via HDMI, the screen on the computer came up too… and stayed up after a couple of sputters! Dare I hope that this is software related and not too expensive to fix? I’ve been reading a bunch of terrible posts about fried video cards!

My display randomly broke as I was using it. It has pink and green lines and the image changes whenever I move the laptop. I've updated all the drivers and run all the tests in solution centre but no luck.
The display is only usable when plugged into an external monitor via HDMI. I still have warranty until September. The laptop was bought in UK but I am currently living in Budapest, Hungary. how can I get this laptop working again? I tried calling the UK service centre and they told me I need to speak to Hungary. i phoned the hungarian centre and they don't speak English. I've spent enough money on phone calls and need the laptop fixed urgently.
It's less than 3 months old and I'm really unsatisfied so far with my first Lenovo purchase.
Please assist, Curtis.

Can't figure this one out.

My phone and iPad will not connect via HDMI to a new teevee. The PC will.

I am using an Apple HDMI converter for the iPad; my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note and I am using an MHL Adapter.

I am using the same HDMI cable in all three instances.

Both the MHL and the Apple adapters "recognize" that there is power plugged into them.

The TV shows "No Signal" when the MHL and Apple are plugged in.

When I take the exact same setups to my other TV, everything works fine.

I have flushed the cache on my phone and rest the iPad.

ETA: I have discovered I have SOUND just no picture, on BOTH iPad and Phone. The iPad indicates it has a TV connected, as well (the phone doesn't have that option).

Hi All,

I just set-up my new Asus computer with an Asus monitor. It seemed like a straight-forward task. I hooked up both the VGA and HDMI cables to the nVIDIA graphics card slot in the back of the tower.

I keeping getting this message "VGA No Signal". I tested the VGA cable by using it on my old computer. It works fine. I used my old cable on the new monitor and same message.

If I remove the HDMI cable from the graphic card slot the monitor works! I figured once I had Windows 7 set-up it would take the HDMI cable but no such luck.

Is there something wrong with this new monitor, the graphic card slot or I just missed something.

Also, I find the system is very slow to start-up even though the computer is much more powerful than my six year old computer.

Thanks, ms

Getting frustrated - help please. Every time I try to use an LCD TV (using mobo HDMI-out to TV HDMI-in) it results in a BSOD with STOP 0x16?telling me that the igdkmd64 did not recover. Usually before the BSOD I get something like "Display driver igdkmd64.sys stopped responding and has recovered" several times, and them?KABOOM.
The system works fine with a VGA monitor without the HDMI attached.

This is a clean Win 7x64 (Home Premium) install on a minimal new build:
ASUS P8H67 B3 (Realtec HD Audio, and Realtec Gbit Network);
i7 2600K with Intel HD3000 on processor graphics
4 Gb RAM (2x 2Gb) DDR3 1333
HD - Crucial C300 128Gb SSD AHCPI.
Supposedly (?) I have the newest HW drivers

The culprit TV?s are an older Olevia 42"-1080i, and a newer 26" VIZIO 1080p. Both are HDCP compliant, and both work fine with HDMI from a DVD, A/V Receiver or cable box.

So far I have tried swapping HDMI cables, tried using a DVI-out to HDMI adapter (TVs don't have DVI ports) ? same result. Tried removing one memory stick (leaving only 2Gb on a single slot) same problem. Also tried with various BIOS settings -- no help. The same things happens if I booth in Safe Mode with networking, but not in Safe Mode. So, I disabled the network drivers and devices, and rebooted normally --but didn't help, same BSOD.

Have been searching the web and forums, but nothing seems to be helping.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

A:Problem with HDMI TV to ASUS P8H67 Mobo w/I7 HD Graphics

Yikes- I just built my HTPC last night w/ a VGA LCD monitor, hooked it up to an older 768p tv tonight (it has HDCP) via HDMI and I'm getting the exact same blue-screen as you. I'll get the Windows boot graphics, and then no graphics after that on my TV. If I hook up both the TV and the LCD via VGA at the same time, the LCD blinks on and off and on and off, but no picture on either device.

BTW- I've got an ASUS P8H67 EVO board (B3 rev) with a Core i3-2100t.

If you find out what's going on, please post here! I was going to try the DVI->HDMI cable tomorrow- I'm not happy to hear that you've already tried that and it didn't work for you. I was thinking the HTPC doesn't like my old 768p TV and I thought I'd use DVI and separate audio until I get a newer 1080p TV later in the year...

I've got a smaller 1080p TV. I'll try that tomorrow. I did try two different HDMI cables tonight.

Good luck- and again, please post back here if you find a solution- I'll do the same!

Hi everyone,

Here is the issue I'm having. I have an Asus K61-IC dual booting Windows 7 Professional x64 (default) & Fedora 16 x64. In Windows, whenever I plug in a HDMI cable to watch a movie on my LCD TV audio will only come out of laptop speakers and when I open audio properties it says HDMI audio not connected or something to that effect (at the moment, I'm not able to connect it to the TV) and it will not let me click on properties, but when I open the driver properties, it tells me everything is working fine. I cannot figure this out for s#%t. Thanks for any help that yall can provide.

A:Asus K61-IC Sound coming from speakers when HDMI is plugged in

The problem is usually with the video as it controls the HDMI audio. If its not detecting or properly detecting the HDMI cable connection then you can have the problem you have.

Reinstall the Video drivers (or install the latest driver for the video) and see if that helps.

I have a ASUS HDMI monitor which works perfectly via the VGA connection to my ACER laptop (windows7). Now I want it to connect to my DELL laptop (Windows8) but there is no VGA connection so instead I am using a DVI digital cable. I have pressed the F8 button on the DELL which gives me the monitor options and I have chosen Duplicate Screen (tried others too), my laptop screen goes blank and then after 10 seconds returns to normal. When I check the ASUS monitor and press the connection button is still says no DVI connection. I know the DVI cable works as I have no issues connecting this laptop using this cable to the TV.

So how can I get the monitor to recognise the laptop?

Well, I bought this monitor a few weeks ago, if I connect it via VGA there's no lag and games work fine, but when I try connecting it via HDMI to my PC, all my games are lag and I get 15-20 fps in cs:go, black ops 3... When normally, using VGA, i get 200fps. It seems like the problems is not from the monitor, because I ask to a friend a BenQ RL2455HM and I got the same problem. I recently purchased a Bush 42" HD ready LED FS TV with HDMI ports so I could connect my Medion laptop, with HDMI output, to watch HD movies etc and stream Net content to my TV. I set everything up in accordance with both manufacturers recommendations and using the correct HDMI cable. When powering up a signal is automatically detected and I see a display on both TV and laptop screen, but once Windows starts to load the TV screen says "no signal". I have tried all the options in Windows 7 screen resolution menu including projector selection modes but it just will not detect the FS TV screen. However if I go into safe mode the TV display works fine automatically, except of course its a lower resolution and I have no audio as its disabled for some reason in safe mode.

I have read various recommendations on other threads but nothing suited to my issue. It seems to me that basic drivers installed in safe mode do the job fine, but something is happening with Windows 7 when booting up in normal mode and I lose my HDMI output. Why will Windows 7 not detect my HDTV in normal mode?. I could stick with safe mode, except I then dont have the audio!...

Are the VGA and HDMI connectors both on the motherboard? Asking because they are on my system and I have to go into the BIOS to specifically enable the HDMI connector. That is because there is also a DVI connector, which is enabled by default, and I have to disable that to enable the HDMI connector.

If the connectors are on a video card, you should look in Control Panel, the Display section, and see if you have to enable/disable connectors there.

I've just received my Laptop back from repair and all seems to be well, I had my screen panel replaced, gpu replaced(from 570m to 670m), new hard drive and CPU fan. However the problem I seem to be having is that internal speakers are completely not working.

I can see that bolume bar in for my internal speakers is actually changing but there is no sound. My system is not muted (unless there's some secret button I'm missing out on) No matter what i try it seems that sound will not work through my internal speakers, I've plugged in my Razer headset(Kraken) that works with my other computer but is not even detected when plugged in the Audio jacks of my laptop(Doesnt even pick up the microphone) and this did work before I sent it out for repair. Sound only works through HDMI output into a TV/Monitor.

Now I'm not sure if this some software configuration that I have to do or something physical with the hardware but I would prefer to not have to send it back as it would take a month to get back to me and also the repair company states that if the problem is due to software then they will charge.

I assume it's a conflict that Realtek HD audio manager is having or something but none of my devices show up on the RealtekHD Audio Manager nor do I get a pop up when a device is detected(which is what normally would of happened)

The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. Hi all
Quick question if i may, this is really baffling me. I have onboard sound on my xfx 750i mobo. ( realtek, i believe) i have installed the latest drivers and for some reason i have this strange problem. If i have my speakers plugged in the back of the PC. the sound is really good. Good quality, then for some reason the audio will cut out then after a few seconds it will come back on. No matter what im listening too, music, watching a film etc... allways does it. Theres no pattern to it, i can listen to a whole song with out pause, then the next song will do it throughout. Also im my gaming (CSS) the audio is nowhere near as good as what it was in vista/xp, i cant hear as much as what i used to be able too, yet when i listen to music, when its not cutting out the quality is fantastic.
I tried my headphones in the front socket, now if i use my headphones the sound does not cut out, however regulary it seems that sound goes low and then comes back as if it is wanting to cut out but doesnt.

Hope someone can help and that post actually made sense lol

A:Audio works, then stops then works again

I wonder if it's a flakey (bad) connection somewhere. Have you reseated (unplug then plug back in) the speaker connection to the PC's sound? Same way there is a cable from the front panel that plugs into the motherboard.

I have an HP desktop with an ASUS VS197 montior connected with VGA cable. I have an NVIDI GeForce GTX 745 graphics card.

I have a BENQ projector connected with HDMI cable.

All has been running perfectly for 3 months.

The setting has been set on "duplicate screen".

Yesterday, rather than turn off the projector's power as normal I simply clicked windows-P and selected "PC screen only"

My monitor immediately went black and said "VGA no signal".

Since then I can use the computer as normal when the HDMI cable is not connected but as soon as I connect the HDMI cable I get a black screen on my monitor. The screen shows on the projector as expected but the monitor screen is black.

My monitor only works when the HDMI cable to the projector is unplugged from the back of the desktop.

I have no idea how to get both screen working again,

Any help much appreciated.

Hi all,
after upgrading to Windows 10, I see that my projector OPTOMA is not recognized via cable HDMI by my laptop ASUS X751L : no image with message 'source not found' !! (while the cable VGA works perfectly !) I suspected that it's a problem of driver but I don't know which is the missing driver ! ? Can someone help me ? Thanks a lot .

i have tried installed the windows 7 x64 driver from both asus and VIA but it didnt work still the same problem. i had to run it in compatibility mode.

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

Hello, I seem to be having an issue i cant figure out. I have an Asus UL50VT (Windows 7 Ult x64) laptop with the GeForce G210m video card drivers are up to date and Im trying to connect it via HDMI to my Funai/Sylvania LD320ssx 32" HDTV(with updated firmware). the problem IM having is if my TV is turned onto a normal "Cable" channel my computer can see it and registers the display as "Sylvania" under my multiple monitors section of NVidia control panel but the moment i turn the channel to HDMI 1 OR 2 on tv the display name goes away and I can do nothing to it. Ive somehow got it to work once or twice by plugging and unplugging the HDMI cable while turning on or off different programs but when i tried to watch any media it drops display, have tried swapping HDMI out with 6 different HDMI cables yet I cant get it to maintain a display .. Im really at end of my rope here... i have read, read, and read online but cant seem to find anyone that seems to be having same problem as me Ive tried all the settings on NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL/ and windows display settings that I can without success so if anyone has an idea PLEASE SUGGEST!

*I also restored the computer back to factory Windows 7 home that didnt help so reupgraded to W7 Ult*
Thanks for any suggestions!

When the computer "Sees" the TV when it is on a cable channel I can switch between displays with the Fn + F8 key and it will cycle through Laptop, HDMI, and laptop+HDMI. Unfor... Read more

I just built a new system.
AMD AM2 x2 6000
Used 4 year old western digital raptor 74 gig hard drive
Asus Motherboard ASUS M3A78-EMH HDMI
4 Gigs Crucial Ballistix Memory
With windows vista. Here is the questions. The hard drive never seems to stop working. It has about 25 gigs free. I have watched the task manager and the memory stays right around 1.25 gigs used. This hard drive has always seemed to run a bit more. When I first built a system with this hard drive I had two 36 gig raptors in a raid configuration stripped. They were noisy but I thought it was the configuration. Does vista require more hard drive activity? Does the page file have anything to do with the extra activity? This system is in my bedroom and I want it to be as quiet as possible. I have shared the memory with the video card. Also I am getting a quiet high pitched whine. Asus said to take all the components out and see which one is causing it. The whine doesn't kick in until windows is booting. I am thinking the onboard lan. Someone at newegg reviewed the board and had the same problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
