Playback Devices - Multiple Outputs

Q: Playback Devices - Multiple Outputs

Does anyone know if Windows 8 will intergrate multiple output devices to play at the same time? Windows 7 doesn't do it... which is stupid. Pirates will always find a way to bypass this, but I'm stuck without this important feature!!! This is absolutely CRUCIAL for HTPC (home theatre PC) people and/or DJ's or Music producers / Artists. I also use audio levelers like SRS audio essentials which is considered another audio playback device. This is truly ridiculous that I paid all of this money for Windows 7 and I can't play to 2 sets of speakers at the same time. And if I want to switch to headphones for a second for any particular reason, i have to go through a process... and make it the default device and when I want to go back to watching tv I have to go through the process again...... SO ANNOYING..... it's my computer, I should be able to play to ALLLLLLLL of my devices. That's why I buy all these devices so I can use them all simultaneously. This is so basic. Can you please update Windows 7 with multiple playback on all devices. I don't copyright infringe or rip dvd's to external sources, but even if I was a shady individual, which I'm NOT, I don't need multiple playback device to do this. You're only hurting ME, the consumer that pays for things I use. It's MADDENING. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR PLAYBACK DEVICES TO INCLUDE SIMULTANEOUS OUTPUT PLAYBACK TO ALL DEVICES.... OR AT LEAST SEVERAL... I mean really... for this stage of technology, this is totally ridiculous.

Two programs are creating audio outputs such as a game program and iTunes, I desire to send the game program to my headset while remain the iTunes audio to my default playback device, speakers.

I am wondering if there is audio management software.
Similar to how if I am on Skype I can communicate through headset and hear them on the headset while the audio on iTunes by default is outputted through the speakers.

Thanks for any input fellow window enthusiasts!

hehe I want to play Nether and hear everything through the headset and keep music playing on the speakers so my girlfriend does not hear me play games -_-

A:Split two different audio outputs to playback devices?

If the headset is also connected to the same audio interface (for example, your onboard audio codec) - then no. It depends on the hardware itself and the drivers, but again, usually just no.

Now if you had two separate audio interfaces, for fictional example off the top of my head for proof of concept purposes: A Realtek HD Audio onboard, and a USB audio solution, then yes, you can route the iTunes (if software allows - I don't use but it should) to the USB and the game will default to Windows default Realtek.

I use my onboard alongside my MOTU Traveler firewire interface simultaneously at times to achieve various purposes, but as of late I have onboard disabled in the bios.

lmao good a reason as any I suppose.

Here's the thing.

I'd like to run Foobar2000 or VLC Media player, running through my S/PDIF out, and My skype through my Analog 3.5mm Audio Jacks.

First off, Can Win7x64 even split audio?

And if so, Any ideas?

reason being is my system is sometimes used as an HTPC, While I'm trying to get work done on skype.

I don't even know if it's possible in 7, and I am using all the stock audio on my Mainboard,
I sold my M-Audio 1010-24/96kHz, so if you're checking specs and wondering, It's no longer an option, Although that would have routed them perfectly.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm sorry to say that, form my own experience this is impossible to achieve for free without corrupting your own Audio drivers and by the sounds of it that won't even work in this case!

It is also near impossible to achieve if you pay for it unless you buy some really specialist, expensive software and special extra hardware!

Sorry for dashing your hope but there still is a chance that someone will come up with a great solution to this I've never seen before (although very unlikely ).

Symptom 1: Xonar D2 Audio Center does not behave normally -> Speaker test does not function. The speaker test function included in Windows under "volume\PlayBack Devices" does function normally.

Symptom 2: Devices within "Playback Devices" are incorrectly named.

How it should look:

How it looks on my computer:

I have tried to install this countless times.

A:Asus Xonar 2D/PM - Playback Devices - Devices Incorrectly Named

Only difference between the D2 and the D2X is one os PCI (D2), and the other is PCI-E (D2X), so you're not missing anything that way. The speaker test not working is something else. You using the latest driver from Asus (Version: 7.12.8.1794), or the one that came on the disk with the card?

Might be worth giving this modded set a try,

ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers 1.64 (post periodically updated) | brainbit

and see if that fixes it. I have a DGX and have only ever used the above since the day I got it as I had seen the reports of how flaky the driver from Asus could be.

A:getting audio out of multiple outputs?

I take it that you have your digital audio out for your surround sound and minijack out for your speakers, right? Other than a splitter at the source, I'm unsure of any other way to specify dual outputs.

Are you using an aftermarket sound card (turtle beach, soundblaster, etc) or is this onboard sound?

im using vista and bought a usb headset quite happy with it but can i have audio through my speakers via line out from the same programs?

It looks like the ability to do so is built into vista in the sound mixing panel accessible through the volume systray icon but i cant work out how to move the sound outputs from each program between devices.

Any idea if its possible to:
a move a program's output between devices and
b use multiple outputs for single progs

if so how?

thanks in advance

I've been having a problem lately where I can't have multiple audio outputs plugged in at the same time and both work. For example, I would like to have both my headset and my speakers plugged in and switch between the two when needed. But for some reason I can only use one at a time by unplugging one and plugging the other in. I've looked through all the drivers and everything is up to date, but I still can't find the reason behind this. Has anyone else ever had a problem like this?

I'm running Vista x64 on my i7 with a 4850. I am currently running my computer speakers through the mobo's optical out and my tv speakers through my 4850's HDMI out. I have a spare "X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro" card in one of my other rigs that I could move to this one if need be.

Is there any way to get simultaneous audio output?, For example, if I want to have a tv show or movie on the tv while I am playing music or a game on my computer, is that possible in vista?

Okay here's my problem.
I'm using a program called Guitar Rig for sound effects for my guitar.I plug my guitar directly into the line in.When I'm using Guitar Rig I can hear the sound from it, but there's no sound from anything else.
If I start Winamp first, then Guitar Rig, Winamp has no problems with the sound. but there's no sound from Guitar Rig.
I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Build 7600.When I was using XP I had no such problems, could it be that Windows 7 doesn't allow multiple audio outputs at the same time?
Please tell me if there's a fix for that or something, cuz it's driving me nuts.

I have recently run a HDMI cable from my PC to my TV, but im finding i have to set the output screen every time i wish to watch on TV.

What im currently doing is each time i have to right click on desktop then select Screen Resolution.
Its already set to multiple monitors but the TV has black screen.
I then select Extend these displays
This enables the TV to show the picture but then the PC monitor goes off and the TV is bad ratio.
I then have to press 'revert' this makes both Monitor and TV resolution watchable.

I was hoping for a way to always have both screens on so i dont have to go through this method each time.

I have attached pics to show

A:Setting up multiple screen outputs

Hey,
You don't need to keep TV on all the time.
Extend the desktop to TV display and set resolution. Then disable that display.
Now, press WIN+P this should open a menu, you can select display configuration easy with this. Ideally projector should be the TV display but mine are reversed. So experiment with settings.

You should see the mess with 3 monitors and a TV on top

I recently purchased a soundblaster live sound card for my PC and have not installed it yet. I have a question that developed after reading the optional connections section of the quick start manual. There is an implication that this card could support 3 2.1 connections. I'm wondering if the soundblaster speaker control panel supports this as an option. Can I connect 3 sets of 2.1 and have volume (EQ?) control for each set? I haven't been able to find an answer to this at creatives site or in the manual on the disc. Maybe one of you successful soundblaster operators can help.

A:Soundblaster Live! Multiple 2.1 outputs? Is it possible?

no separate volume

Since 2.1 speakers have a single-pin connector, I imagine you could hook one set each into the jacks on the card, but I can't think of any way you could have individual control over volume, or other settings.

I'm currently producing music on my PC and have hit a problem with the number of outputs on my computer. I currently use onboard sound.

Green Stereo Out on back of computer ->
2 way Splitter ->
Computer Speakers
Flashing light speakers

Green Stereo Out on top of computer ->
Headphones

I will shortly be buying ANOTHER set of speakers for music production, and possibly ANOTHER after that. The splitter degrades audio qualitiy slightly; you can't hear this through speakers, but it's pretty bad through headphones. My new speakers will be high quality ones and so the quality must not be degraded (aka no splitter).

Any suggestions for a good soundcard/solution which has 4/5 green outputs from one card?

My computer has built in sound, it also has sound over HDMI.

The video playback software that came with my blueray drive recognizes the sound over HDMI, and gives me the option to use it, while everything else comes out the computer's speakers.

Can I do this with a single program? I'd REALLY like to set my VM to the sound over HDMI, but that's not the point here [but I'm open for ideas there!]

My main goal is to have one of my browsers [Chrome preferred] use the HDMI sound while the rest of the computer continues to use the standard sound output

A:Can I assign programs to multiple sound outputs?

You can only have one default audio playback device. You can't have some sound go to the PC's speakers and others go to the HDMI at the same time. It has to be one or the other.

I read on several fora that simultaneous multiple audio outputs is supported by Windows XP. I have XP and try to send audio from my computer via the digital USB-output (towards my receiver) as well as via the audio output (towards my desktop speakers) simultaneously. It doesn't work: I have to choose between them in the 'sounds and audio devices' of the control panel in stead of marking them both as 'default'.
Does anyone know if it's possible to play them both simoultaneously, and how?

Hi,

I was hoping someone might be able to assist me. I just recently set up the Iogear Wireless Audio/Video Kit (GUWAVKIT) in order to wirelessly stream audio and video (my computer desktop) to a remote source (TV, projector, etc.). The video streaming seems to work great (extending my desktop, mirroring it, etc.), but I'm having some difficulty with the audio set-up.

Basically, the set-up entailed adding another audio playback device within Windows (it did this automatically when I connected the USB transmitter to the computer). Ideally, I'd like to be able to have the audio transmit and playback through the wireless device when the video is also wirelessly being transmitted. However, it seems the only way to achieve this is to go into Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Audio tab -> Sound Playback / Default Device and change it from the built in audio card to the USB one that has been added. Obviously, this is a pain.

However, I'd settle for having the audio output to both the internal audio card as well as the USB transmitter for playback via the remote source. This would allow it to come through the speakers I have set-up and connected directly to my computer, as well as the remote source when it is turned on (the remote source is a TV right now, so it seems it would only playback through the TV when I have the input set to "PC"). I can't seem to figure out any way to set up Windows to playback the audio through more than one... Read more

I need to split my audio into two separate audio devices (my front and rear audio jacks). A physical splitter is not an option. The situation is this; I have an infrasound system that vibrates my desk at sub-audible frequencies, and I hear audible sound through my headphones. I would just use a physical splitter, but this causes nasty echoing in my headphones.

The only options I have found so far are extremely complex and awful. One involves 1)physically splitting the main output 2)running the main output to headphones and rear microphone 3)"listening to" rear microphone through secondary output. This is extremely messy and introduces a nasty delay.

The other option is using a virtual audio manager that costs money and introduces a drop in quality and a noticeable (but smaller) delay. Neither of these options are acceptable for what I need to do.

Ideally, I would like to know a way to do this without having to install any extra software that I have to screw with on every reboot, and I would certainly not like to pay for this.

I have a home stereo system 4 speakers and a sub that I want connected to my computer. The problem I'm having is that while I want those connected, I also want a set of computer speakers connected as well so I can switch to them when playing games or what not then switch over to the home stereo system (from cd to aux or whatever, just a different input) when blasting music. All I know is that the one output works or whatever (green one) but I don't know if I can use another output or input. I have about 6 audio jacks in my comp with a RealTek soundcard. Can ne one help me?

A:How do you connect multiple speakers using 2 different outputs from reciever to comp?

Most computer and audio shops have "mixer" connectors... but if you want to have separate volume controls for each set, you need to get fancy. Buy a control box designed for the purpose... acts the same way a preamp does... usually about $30 to $40.

Looks like Ghosts of DLNA devices. Start by taking offline any DLNA capable gear, reboot the Gateway and also clear its IP Table.

Also clear out those ghosts from Devices and Printers.

For some reason this started in Windows 7, when Microsoft started to play games with DLNA and media Shares.

I have Bluetooth devices listed in Playback Devices as "disconnected".
I have removed the device (Bluetooth headset) via Devices and Printers, but they still appear as disconnected in Playback Devices .
How can I clear them from Playback Devices (not just hide them by un-checking 'show disconnected devices")?
I can't help but think this is preventing me from pairing and using the BT headset because I can pair it with my laptop with no problem.

A:What are all these playback devices?

Start with installing the drivers for both your video card and sound, as neither are installed yet. That is the reason it is showing as "high definition audio device" for everything, as both are running on the default Windows drivers. Once that is done they will change to show the name of what they are from; the name of the sound card and the name of the video card (all the HDMI ones). May even find that there is less of them as well.

But i cannnot get any sound from it the audio properties are blank for playback devices?

I have unistalled all the old drivers, removed the references to sound in registry, uninstalled and reinstalled all sound related items in windows add remove section. anyone have any more ideas i can try ?

I think its registry related but where do i look

A:No playback devices

I had problems such as this with my SoundBlaster PCI512 as well. It happened when I tried to install the sound card's drivers via a "driver update" off of Creative's site. Apparently, it only installs the files from the driver that have been changed since the last revision and not the entire driver itself.

I'd recommend finding your Creative disk that came with your sound card and install the drivers from that, then update the drivers from Creative's site.

If that doesn't work, you might try installing Creative's AudioHQ. I doubt that will change anything, but it may work.

Hello I have nothing in my Playback devices, only a message No audio devices are installed. ''Show disabled and disconnected devices'' are both ticked. Each uninstall/reinstall of ''Realtek High Definition Audio'' under Device Manager only causes additional Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) to appear in the ''Speakers'' list under Volume Mixer. I have about 8 of them as I kept uninstalling/reinstalling in an attempt to resolve my problem. Initially I also had no sound on side of this problem. I have used the audio trubleshooter to set 1 of the 8 Speakers as the default playback device, and now sound works. I still have nothing in my  ''Playback devices'' though, disabling me from using other audio functions such as Microphone or getting sound on TV when connecting through HDMI. I've looked everywhere online but couldn't find a solution. Please, help me. Thank youAnna

Windows only allows one default playback device. e.g. "Speakers" or "HDMI". There may be some third party application that will allow doing what you want, but the basic Windows install will not. (This is the same on Vista and Windows 8 too).

Thank you to flavallee and Phantom010 for solving an issue with my home computer. Now I need help for one of my users at work...

I have done numerous searches on numerous threads and tried everything and nothing has worked.

I have no sound and the volume controls are greyed out because of there being no playback devices.

I am running a HP dc5800, win XP, Pentium Dual Core CPU E5200 with 4 GB Ram.

This machine was in storage and I just recently installed an ATI FireGL 7600. After this, the SoundMax driver gave me an error message at login so I attempted to update the driver for the chipset, universal audio architecture update and ADI audio update from here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ID=1093#113165

Once the ADI update started, it began the soundMAX install and it said that it was not compatible with my hardware (I assume this means the new graphics card).

I have tried the admin tools-services-win audio and it is started and set to automatic. An ATI HD audio driver was apparently installed with the graphics card. I disabled this, then removed it and then reinstalled it. None of it worked. Still no sound!

Can anyone help?

This is sooooo aggrevating because I feel like it is something stupid that I am overlooking.

Thanks...

Hello,
I have been messing with trying to get hdmi to work in windows7. At 1 point I had several hdmi sound sources in my playback devices section of sounds. Whatever it really is called... I removed my old nvidia drivers ver 191. and went to the newest version 260. thats when I noticed they were gone. I have an external soundblaster 24 bit and internal sb710 chipset. I disabled the internal but taht did't bring back the hdmi stuff. I have just downloaded the sb file from the top of the forum area and will try and install that later.
I want to know if I need to install the file from here or whatever to get the hdmi stuff back.
Thanks

A:missing hdmi in playback devices

If your video card has a built in audio device for the HDMI that is what is needed to be selected to have HDMI audio from the HDMI connection on the Video Card.

Since you upgraded the video drivers and that apparently killed it, rollback the driver and see if you get the audio back.

The HDMI, when it's on-board with the video card, has nothing to do with your PC's audio card. It's strictly a function on the Video card.

Hey, I'm experiencing frustrating issues with my playback and wondered if you guys could help?
Basically I noticed when I turned on my laptop that there was no sound coming out of my Headphones, only the speaker. It was in the right jack as there are only two its not that hard to get right haha. Anyway I went into playback devices to check if for some reason my headphones had been disabled. I then couldn't see my headphones in the playback options, just the speakers which was the default and its Realtek HD Audio. I right clicked to see if the show disabled icons were checked and they were. So it looks as if my laptop didn't even know that headphones existed at this point. I then went into realtek and they also didn't have anything do with headphones as an option. The other things i have tried are: TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN, updating my realtek drivers, doing a system restore and looking online for solutions. It would be great if anyone could give me some advice on what to do as i need this to be fixed because my career is in music so as you can guess this is really important to me. My system is windows 7 home premium 64bit, plus my headphones do work on other devices so they are also not the problem. Thanks for your time!

A:Headphones Not Recognised In Playback Devices, Please Help.

First thing to do, considering what you have done, is to go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

I know this is a subject that has probably been hashed to death, but I'm not finding the answer that I need. How do I get the HDMI to show up in my Playback devices?

I plug my HDMI cable into my computer, and into my TV. Check.
There is not an option for HDMI on my playback devices, but there are options for Speakers, Headphones, and digital Audio (S/PDIF) -- the digital audio only appeared after I uninstalled my Audio driver, and restarted the computer. And no, there is no sound on my TV w/ the Digital Audio device (although it says it is ready, when my HDMI cable is plugged in).

I have also unstalled my NVidia driver and reinstalled it.

A few months ago, even after installing Windows 7, I was able to do a troubleshoot, which fixed the HDMI problem, and allowed me to play sound from my laptop, through the TV speakers. I promise. It really happened. On Playback devices, the HDMI option was there. But now it's not, and I can not figure out how to get it to show up.

I selected "Show Disabled Devices" - and nothing else appears.

I can not figure out, for the life of me, how to get the HDMI option to reappear. I even ran the troubleshooting utility again - to no avail.

This is making me crazy, because it has worked in the past.

Hi there,

I've been searching threads on various forums and have had trouble finding a straight-forward answer on this topic...

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Vista 32bit premium.

The default audio is the IDT high def codec and I am up to date in drivers for it.

I've noticed people referring to the enhancements tab in the playback device properties menu on vista. This doesn't display on my system and I'm curious why?

One forum talked about having to do hacks to get it... surely there's a more straight forward way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

A:Missing enhancements tab in playback devices

Hi,

Found this on another forum, look to see if it is applicable?

Here's how I fixed mine with Win-VISTA:

1. Click START
2. Click CONTROL PANEL
3. (Switch to CLASSIC VIEW)

a. Click on SOUND
b. Click on PLAYBACK Tab
c. Click on SPEAKERS/HEADPHONES
d. Click on PROPERTIES
e. Click on CUSTOM Tab
i. Make sure PC SPK MUTE is NOT checked
f. Click on LEVELS Tab
i. Slide PC SPEAKER to 100%
ii. Don’t worry about the SPEAKER slider, it’s controlled by the keyboard buttons
g. Click on ENHANCEMENTS Tab
i. Make sure LOUDNESS EQUALIZATION is checked
h. Click OK
i. Click OK

I have no sound on my new Windows 10 PC.
Things I've tried:
1) Uninstalled and reinstalled sound drivers with multiple restarts
2) Checked power is connected
3) Checked speakers are connected via the green jack
There's another fix I was trying in the Playback Devices window but when I look there, my speakers aren't even displayed.

So my problem is that the playback devices window doesn't want to open..
So I can't change my default playback device anymore, and so I can't use my headset now .

It didn't work a couple of days ago, but my computer was also running really slow so I decided to format it.
So that's what I did, I now have a clean install and so far I have gotten the window open 2 times, but it took ages before it opened...

Anybody have Any idea what could cause this and how I can solve it? Cause it's really annoying.. =s I have already tried updating my audio drivers thinking that might solve it, but it didn't..

Another problem that I'm just having right at this moment (and which I also had before the format) is that when I want to play a song in iTunes it just stays at 0:00 and if I then try to start another song iTunes just completely blocks and doesn't respond anymore..

Set-up:
MB: Asus P5Q
CPU: Intel Q9300 @ 2,5GHz
GPU: ATI HD4850

Edit: I had also ran a full system scan before I formatted and I just did one again, and neither showed up with any virusses.

A:Playback devices window not opening

It sounds like the reinstall was not done correctly or fully. On many systems the install requires (1) Install Windows (2) Install motherboard chipset drivers (3) Install Device Drivers. The chipset drivers (for most systems) are key to a successful reinstall and ofter overlooked. Many devices, such as sound, will either not work or not work correctly without the chipset drivers as one of the prime things they do is define (identify) all the devices on the motherboard.

I have done numerous searched on numerous threads and tried everything and nothing has worked.

I have no sound and the volume controls are greyed out because of there being no playback devices.

I am running a HP dc5800, win XP, Pentium Dual Core CPU E5200 with 4 GB Ram.

I just recently installed an ATI FireGL 7600. The SoundMax driver was not working and I attempted to update the driver for the chipset, universal audio architecture update and ADI audio update from here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ID=1093#113165

Once the ADI update started, it began the soundMAX install and it said that SM was no longer compatible.

I have tried the admin tools-services-win audio and it is started and set to automatic.

Can anyone help?

This is sooooo aggrevating because I feel like it is something stupid that I am overlooking.

Thanks...

2) HDMI - When I plug my HDMI cable, the same problem.

I have to manually choose what Playback Device too use. Should it be like this?

Hello,

I am having some problems with the playback sound devices in my Vista Laptop, ever since I had to change the Hard Disc and Windows were re-installed. Specifically, the automatic device selection does not seem to work and whenever I want to use headphones,I have to change the default device option myself. When I listen to music or watch videos and I change the settings during the reproduction, they do not apply at once;I have to close the file and then open it again in order to see some results.I don't think that this has to do with my sound-card, since both headphones and speaker are working but not complementary. Is there any way to return to the good old "automatic" days?

Hi there!
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this situation. I'm running windows 8 on my lenovo laptop, and the headset I use is a siberia v2 frost, which connects via USB. I have it for nearly an year, and it just stopped appearing on the playback devices menu. Once I connect it, it still lights up and the Steelseries Engine recognizes the device is connected, and still I can't use it :/
Things I have already tried:
* updating the drivers on the Device Manager(the headset shows there)
* uninstalling the device, and then restarting the pc
* connecting the headset in a different usb port
I'm really frustrated, and I was hoping someone here could help me!

Hey there, hoping I get get some help with this! So I'd just formatted my computer to free up space and realized I have this problem. I have a link to a youtube video showing what happens as it's hard to explain.

My playback devices keep constantly changing the second I log into Windows. This is after a fresh format of Windows 7. I tried installing my motherboard's on board sound drivers afterwards assuming that'd fix the issue, and it didn't do anything. I then proceeded to reformat again as I thought the windows 7 installation may have corrupted, still not fixed. Next I tried to install a seperate sound card in my PC and that didn't fix the issue. Then I tried taking out my gtx 480 and putting in my radeon 6950 as it has an HDMI port to see if it would pick up sound, no luck. The playback devices keep swapping like that regardless of what I do. I also tried my friend's version of Windows 7 incase my disk was scratched.

Not sure what to do at this point!

A:Playback Devices Constantly Change

Try turning the surround sound on your Razor synapse off then make your speakers your default for sounds and for your commincations,  or try making any one the default for both.  i noticed you have two green checks you only need one.  you are trying to make two defaults at present.  this worked for me but who knows, I'm not an expert by any definition of the word.

Help!! I am out of options.

Welcome to SevenForums

Since your laptop is so new I would take it back and let them fix it or replace it.

The fact that your not seeing your device in device manager means it's not being detected. To me that means a possible hardware failure.

You have already done most of what would be suggested, except uninstalling the software you eluded to.

Thus my suggestion to return the Laptop.

Hello,

As most of the people here, I seek help and advice for a problem with my computer.

Let me introduce my laptop to you first by giving you the specs.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz

Memory: 6GB RAM

System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

System Model: N53SV-S1827V

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1

Display: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

Sound: Intel(R) Display Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
So. Now for the problem that I have.
I have bought this laptop 31st of August, now 3 weeks ago. Ever since the first day I booted it, it has been giving problems with playing sounds and recognizing the speakers.

When I have booted the computer and I play sounds/music with the speakers, it works perfectly, but after a while, the sounds start 'sparkling', like blown up speakers. That is the first sign of that things are getting weird. After that, the system sounds wont work anymore. Then, windows media player and youtube wont play music anymore. And last but not least, the speakers won't get recognized anymore.

However, when I am already in a Skype call, that sound still works, until I close the call, then i can't call them back and I will get an error saying that there is a missing playback device.

When I then reboot the system, everything works perfectly again.

Also, when I plug in my earplugs, I sometimes still get the 'sparkles' but the sounds won't disappear. So I think it shoul... Read more

A:Playback devices disappear after a while [Highly annoying]

Hello xNanou and welcome to TSF,

I would have to say that your computer is defective, especially since it happened OOB (out of box). I understand that it is frustrating, but there is only one more thing I can have you try before giving you my advice.

Use the recovery partition and restore the PC to it's factory settings and try again.

If a factory restore doesn't solve your issue, I would contact the reseller for an exchange / defective merchandise. I would hurry though, most retail outlets have very strict return/exchange policies... Usually 10 days or so for return and 30 days for exchange.

After that, you will have to use ASUS RMA/Warranty.

Hey everybody, new forum member here. So here's the scoop. I use my headphones for a lot of stuff. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, and when I booted up and plugged in my headphones, nothing happened. The sound came from the speakers. I don't like that. So I open up my playback devices, and my headphones are mysteriously not there. I unplug them, and they appear again, listed as "Not plugged in". I plug them back in, and they disappear. Nothing works with them. The pair are Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio earbuds.
OS is 8.1

Any help you can give me? This is extremely frustrating.

A:Headphones disappear from playback devices for no reason.

Could be a bad port, however, it could be something as simple as the audio driver is not installed or configured to run headphones or the external ports.

Right click on start menu button
Click on device manager
Click on Sound, audio or game controllers, and check the audio device.

If it says High Definition Audio device, you will need to go to the dell website and download the drivers.

If it has like Realtek High Definition Audio, or some other audio controller,

Right click on start menu,
Click on Control Panel
Change from Category view to Large icons,
Find Realtek audio control panel, or whatever audio control panel you have.
Make sure that the external ports are properly configured.

Ok, so I recently bought a new Bluetooth headset. I paired it with my computer, and got everything working fine. The next day, when I resume my computer from hibernation, I find that it's not immediately working. I check the Playback Devices in Sound, and it shows up as "Disconnected". I right click, and attempt to reconnect. Nothing happens. I go to my Bluetooth Devices and remove the device. I pair it again successfully. I go back to Playback Devices, and it still won't connect, so I restart my computer completely, and it still doesn't work. I try reinstalling the driver for the headset, and it reinstalled fine, but now it won't even show up at all in Playback Devices, despite it being paired fine, and showing up in my Bluetooth Devices. Any help would be appreciated as to fixing this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Though I don't think it matters, the headset is a Kinivo BTH220 Bluetooth Stereo Headphone, exact specifications can be found here: Amazon.com: Kinivo BTH220 Bluetooth Stereo Headphone - Supports Wireless Music Streaming and Hands-Free calling: Cell Phones & Accessories

Perhaps your BlueTooth system dont have a2dp protocol (stack), you need this for music transfer bluetooth to wireless speaker. Check your brand of BT chip, and download drivers for your chip. PS Ms Win7 64 do not have the a2dp protocol, you must find by other vendor.

Before my old profile corrupted I only had 3 which were:
Monitor (rear audio jack)
HD TV (HDMI cable)
HiFi (Front audio jack)

When I enable them they do nothing !

Also can't put it do 'hide disabled' because when I disable my TV its a nightmare messing around getting it back.

The headphones all work for other computers. When I open playback devices, the headphones appear as "speakers", "USB PnP Sound Device", and "Ready". Where there is usually a volume bar is blank, no bar. I am unable to set the device as default, when I select that option nothing happens.

I know the up to date drivers are installed for the headphones, but the issue is probably related to other drivers inside of the computer. Have fixed before by reinstalling OS, but would like not to do so again.

Please ask for more information if it is needed to fix the issue and suggest anything, I am desperate.

A:No USB headphones work on this computer, they ARE in playback devices

Try a reinstall of the headphones. Connect them, go to the Device Manager listing for the headphones (should be in the Sound section). RIGHT click on the entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "UNINSTALL". Also Uninstall the driver. Disconnect the headphones, restart Windows. After Windows starts, connect the headphones and Windows should detect new hardware and install them. This fixes a lot of flakey problems and Windows device corruptions and may fix your problem.

I have an HTPC that I use to watch TV through Media Center with an HD Homerun Prime. Lately I've been getting an error message in Media Center that say something to the effect of "no audio device detected." When I close out of Media Center, I notice that the little speaker icon in the bottom right of the screen shows that the volume is muted. If I right-click on the speaker icon, and select "Playback Devices," the HDMI Audio is not listed. It's usually listed as something like "Denon Receiver - Digital Audio".

Anyway, I've right-clicked in the Playback Devices dialog and made sure that I have both "display disconnected devices" and "display disabled devices" checked. Even with those settings, it's still not showing the HDMI Audio. It's as if the cable was completely removed, even though the video is getting through.

Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this issue? This HTPC has been working without this issue for years now, so I'm not sure why this issue is suddenly popping up, but it's really annoying. I haven't installed any new software or made any hardware changes that I can recall.

Here are my specs:

HTPC: Intel Celeron with onboard graphics (HD4000, I think);
Receiver: Denon with HDMI inputs;
TV: LG 50" plasma.

I should mention that I have the HDMI cable running from the computer to the receiver, and then an output from the receiver to the TV.

Thanks,

Kevin

A:HDMI Audio not showing in playback devices???

Check the Device Manager, Sound section. You should have Intel Display Audio and the regular PC audio listed. The Intel Display Audio is for the HDMI.

If the Intel is missing, the Intel CPU drivers will have to be reinstalled, as a start. If it has an error code, please list the code. If its show and status is working OK, try recycling the Intel Display Audio, Uninstall the device in the Device Manager, but DO NOT uninstall any drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Intel Display Audio. See if this fixes it.

If not, try running the HDMI direct from the PC to the TV and see if you get audio.

As you apparently have an Intel motherboard, are you using the Intel supplied sound drivers for your specific motherboard? If not, that is the first step. If no Windows 7 drivers are listed, Vista drivers will work.

as shown in the guide connected to the SPDIF header on the video card and the one one the sound card (or motherboard if using the onboard audio).

I unplugged and replugged the headphones in and still get nothing, even after the computer recognizes that there is something connected to the audio jack. I plugged the headphones into my MP3 player and it works. So, there's nothing wrong with the headphones. The computer speakers work, it's just the headphone jack that is giving me problems by not working. I've never had any issues with the audio jack before this. Please advise. Thanks!

Did you get that Realtek driver from Realtek, from a disc, or from your motherboard manufacturer?

I have checked the playback settings and the only device showing is Sony-tv 1. I also checked for deactivated and disconnected devices but still only Sony-tv.
Please help

Hi All

I have been on this form before the members on here have solved every issue I have had in the past. Hoping someone can help me out with my latest "issue".

I came home today to find my computer has no sound. I also have no volume icon in the task bar. When I right click on the task bar to make the volume control visible - there is no option to do so.

When I go to the volume control option under All Programs - Accessories - Entertainment, I get the following message:

"There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices go to Control Panel, click printers & Other Hardware and then click Add Hardware. When I do that it seems as thought it wants me to install the "Multimedia Audio Controller" but the install always fails.

Help!! I am out of options.

Thank you very much!!!
Dan

Please post the computer model on your next post. Did it worked prior and did it just happen suddenly? Please check your device manager for any marks on your sound controller.

Hello,

I'm running on Windows 10 Home and my earphones work but they don't show up in playback devices (Right click sound and select playback devices) I'm not really sure how to get them back. It doesn't really matter with my earphones but my headphones don't work at all when I plug them in and I'm not sure if it not showing up in the playback devices will change anything (So I can set it to default device?)
Also, my headphones used to work but then it started not to work every once and a while and the sound would come out of the speaker.
It would be appreciated if someone could help.

THANKYOU!

I consider myself an advanced user, but this one I've never seen, nor can I find info out for...

I haven't been able to plug a video camera or external hard drive into my computer via FireWire. I then tried a different cable, nothing. I then tried a different device and cable, nothing. I then tried a different computer with two devices, nothing.

My USB2.0 works fine with each device and computer. I also took the new computer into CompUSA and they tried their firewire device and all worked. I bought a new firewire cable, but I have the same luck with each device.

How can 2 external hardrives, and one sony camera not work, after working for a year. What happened? What do I need to do?

Okay, so about 2 hours ago I was in a teamspeak. Suddenly my microphone and headset cut out, immediately I right clicked the sound icon and selected 'playback devices' there were three icons I didn't recognise one was a speaker that said 'Xsplit audio renderer'

Another was a picture of a headphone

Another was a speaker which said 'Via HD Audio'

If I remember correctly it should say realtek or something, but it didn't. None of them worked, but if I played a video it detected the sound from the video but I couldn't hear it.

Please someone help...

Also sorry for lack of detail it was hard to describe

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Well, I have no sound, at all, and I believe it is because of my playback devices. My Mic works (Its part of my headphones) and I think that is because It has the sufficient playback devices.

As for my audio, out of any headphones I use I have no sound, at all. I have ruled out my drivers because I believe they are all working fine. What I haven't checked is my sound card. I will if recommended to.

Here is a screenshot of both headphones and microphone.
I don't think there is the right playback devices for my headphones. On any other computers I have checked they have at least 3 playback devices and at least 1 of those has the 3.5mil jacks I wish to use.

Any help will be appreciated.

A:Insufficient Playback Devices?? Win7 Ultimate 32bit

Can't tell you what you need as you haven't filled out your specs, but you need to install the drivers for the sound card. At the moment it is running on the default (and very limited and basic) driver that Windows installs, as shown by it being listed as a "high definition audio device". Once the correct drivers are installed that will change to the name of the sound card, and then your sound will work as it should.

Ok so i bought the new Harmon Kardon-Onyx Studio model of bluetooth speaker and I want it to play via my laptop. I'm using a Gateway P6831fx laptop with windows vista 32 bit OS.

The speaker is recognised by my laptop and is "paired"  and appears if I select the "show bluetooth devices" option.

The problem is I have no sound and cannot figure out how to make this thing play via my laptop...????

If I go to the bottom right hand side and right click on the volume icon, then go to playback devices the bluetooth speaker does not appear.

I tried to update my bluetooth driver and it appears that is is current and does not need to be updated.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.....

A:Bluetooth speaker paired but NO SOUND and does not appear in playback devices.

You might try the Inland bluetooth adapter.  That's what I'm using with my bluetooth speaker & it's working fine on my Windows 7 laptop.

Good luck.

Hi, in the playback device list I can only see the default speakers. When I connect to the TV via HDMI I can see the video but no sound reach the TV. I've checked all drivers, uninstalled and re-installed them, tried to install earlier versions of Graphic Card 5500 directly from Intel with no success...

I cant change my playback settings on the audio settings, My laptop is connected through HDMI and has worked before, however lately when i press the set default button it does nothing. I feel like I've tried everything any suggestions would be grateful.

A:Can't change playback settings on manage audio devices

I suspect something has happened to the HDMI connection. Normally, when an HDMI cable is connected Windows will automatically switch the default playback device to HDMI.

Try recycling the HDMI Audio and see if that helps. Go to the Device Manager, Right click on the entry for the Intel Display audio and then RIGHT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the driver. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Intel Display Audio. This will fix any Windows corruption.

If this does not fix it, reinstall the Intel video drivers. Then check to see if it works OK.

I am currently trying to get my PH-EB200 Earbuds (Bluetooth) to play the audio from my HP laptop. I have an internal Bluetooth driver that recognizes the earbuds, and they have paired. However, under Sound/Playback, the earbuds are not shown as a playback device. The buds work fine with my phone, so I am not sure what I am missing, or what steps I need to take to get these earbuds to play the audio from my laptop. I apologize if that is not all/the correct information you need, but I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to computers.

Hello everyone, well, for the past few days now. I've been experiencing this issue of having no sound. On the lower-right corner of the system tray, there is a Speaker icon with a red circle with a white "x" on it. So naturally, I assumed that this must be due to the sound drivers corrupting. So I went to the manufacturer's website for my Notebook. Which is an Acer Aspire 4730Z running on Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.

The drivers I downloaded were Realtek High Definition Audio, after the files finished downloading I reinstalled them, only to encounter yet another problem. Which was that they failed to install. The specific error message that appeared was "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure". So I tried to install it again, this time through the Device Manager by updating the driver software. This also, did not work, the error message for that was "This operation returned because the timeout period expired".

I've also tried the System File Checker tool, Microsoft Mr. Fix-It tool, the Check Disk utility, editing specific Registry entries in the Registry Editor, resetting the Services back to their defaults. Absolutely nothing has been successful so far. I've even attempted to reboot into Safe Mode, and install the software. Which surprisingly enough, worked. I rebooted my computer again for the changes to take effect, just when I had thought that I finally solved this annoying dilemma, restarting comput... Read more

Hello Zephanosuke & welcome to TSF

Did you try doing a System Restore to a point when the Audio was working alright?

Twice now, after updates, Windows fails to recognize all but one playback device, the AMD HDMI Output and no recording devices at all. In the screenshots below, you can see what playback and recording devices are recognized before the update when all is normal and as it should be.

I've had to do a system restore twice to get sound output back through my digital output (s/pdif), which is the one I normally use.

After restore, all is normal. I'll post some screenshots of what it looks like when normal and another shot of the updates.

Should I install one update at a time and uninstall it if the problem recurs and then try each one at a time?

Could it have anything to do with my having had the Win10 downloaded (not installed) and then erased with the other updates reminding me to download it? (I've hidden those updates too).

The only other new thing was to plug in my receiver since that's how I record. But that's been plugged in before without ill effects.

Here are the screenshots.

Hello!
I recently restored my computer to factory new because of a other problem I had before with the internet only saying Local Only Once I restored it, I cannot use my audio like I said in the title. Here are some screenshots on what I mean:

I have also looked around for my RealTek Audio Manager and I couldn't find it anywhere but in my uninstall tab and in my Program Files folder.

I hope you guys can help me with my problems!
Thanks,
Jacob.

Can someone help me solve this enigma? Can't find answers anywhere...

So I've installed Adobe Audition on my brand new Asus K53E. When I try to record, I can't select my headphones as the default audio playback. So I go and try to do it in the control panel. But the headphones/headphone jack simpy isn't listed in the devices in control panel, or anywhere.

The thing is, the headphones work fine in the jack. A message alerts me when I've plugged or unplugged anything into the jack (I only have one headphone jack on my Asus K53E). I use the headphones when I watch movies on this machine and everything is cool, but if they won't register under playback devices, then I can't set them as a preference in Audition, and therefore can't use the program (headphones being vital to record, unless you want to end up with feedback loops..)

I tried "show disabled devices", no luck. I fiddled around in the Realtek HD audio manager, but none of the settings there seem to do anything either. I downloaded the latest driver from realtek, but it won't install. I've tried "rolling back" updates and then re-updating, still nothing. Would this be a driver problem or am I simply missing something in the settings? Would USB headphones be seperate to the soundcard? Would they work?

Truth be told, I really don't know a whole lot about computers but I'm trying my best to get this sorted through exploring the settings and trial and error. If I'm doing something blatantly obvious... Read more

I am having a problem with my computer's sound. When I navigate to the Control Panel and goto 'Sounds and Audio Devices' under the 'Volume' tab it says "No Audio Device" and under the 'Audio' tab there are 3 things listed.

Sound Playback
Default Device: "No Playback Devices"

Sound Recording
Default Device: "SB Live! Wave Device"

MIDI music playback
Default Device: "B: SB Live! MIDI Synth"

I do not understand how my Sound Blaster Live! can be utilized for MIDI playback and Sound Recording but is not functioning as a sound playback device. Some other useful information maybe in the device manager so I will write out what that says as well.

Sound, Video and game controllers:
-Audio Codecs
-Creative SB Live! (WDM)
-Creative SBLive! Gameport
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Devices
-Media Control Devices
-Video Codecs

There are no exclaimations indicating any malfunction in any of the devices. Far as I can tell from the Device manager, everything is functioning properly. I am running Windows XP Home w/SP2. My sound was working less than 2 weeks ago but it just randomly stopped working specifically as a sound playback device. If you guys have seen something similar to this and know how to fix it let me know. I am pretty good with computers so you can pretty much guarantee that I have run the following:

System Restore
Services.msc
Uninstall an Re-install all audio ... Read more

A:Sound Blaster Live! Problem.. Says I have 'No Audio Playback Devices'

It is possible the drivers are corrupt, or damaged in some way.
Does audio show up in the BIOS when you first boot up?
What do you see for audio when you go to Control Panel ->System->Hardware->Device Manager?
Does the section for audio drivers show a red or yellow flag?
Regardless, I would remove or disable the audio drivers, then download and install a new driver set.
Then check those obvious things that are such embarrassments... is the speaker device plugged into the correct socket? Are the speakers turned on. Do they work in another computer?

I am using HDMI to connect from my laptop to a tv, but it is late and I have a roommate so I want to use headphones for the sound. I plug in the headphones, and go to the playback devices panel. It has an option to disable the tv sound, but it does not work. No error or anything, just does nothing. How do I get this to work?

I have tried enabling the speakers, I have tried setting the speakers as the default device, and I have tried disabling the TV output. None of these work, the TV stays set as the default device.

A:Unable to disable audio for HDMI in playback devices panel

What are you using to try to disable the sound via the HDMI? You'd need to enter the graphics card software to do that as that is where the sound to the TV would be coming from, the sound for the headphones would be coming from the onboard sound/sound card which is controlled by the audio device manager.

There are multiple websites that I cannot connect to, facebook, rottentomatoes, youtube, to name a few. Others seem perfectly fine. A few seem okay, but seem to be running slowly.

This is the case for both my computer (on which I am running Windows 7), which is connected directly to the router, *and* mobile devices which are connected wirelessly.

On my computer I have tried using several different browsers to no avail, but when I used the TOR browser to proxy, I was able to access them.

I apologize if this has been asked, but I haven't been able to find anything this specific.

Thank you.
