IDT High Def Audio, buzzing sound when playing any sort of audio.

Q: IDT High Def Audio, buzzing sound when playing any sort of audio.

Starting about a week ago whenever any audio is being played through my computer (speaker or headphone) I will hear a buzzing sound and occasionally the audio with skip. This happens weather I am playing audio that is being streamed from the internet or that is on my computer directly.

I have tried several things to fix this problem including installing all windows updates that are available as well as updating my audio drivers.

I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. My computer model is hp pavilion dv7t quad 6100 and I have IDT high definition audio codec driver version 6.10.6381.0 which my computer says is the latest driver version. Updating to this version has not solved the problem, however.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. If there is additional info that is neccesary, please let me know and I will post it.

A: IDT High Def Audio, buzzing sound when playing any sort of audio.

Unplug the speakers from the PC and see if you still get the buzz with headphones. Some "buzz" problems can be related to "AC power ground loop" problems if some separately powered devices are connected.

Noise and skipping are problems that have been posted here before. There is no "one fix" for that. There are possible hardware problems, drivers (including video drivers), Interrupt issues, Wi Fi caused, etc.

Skipping can be because the other device that is on the shared Interrupt that the sound is on is interrupting the sound. Sound is always on a shared interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. You can try this: go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the IDT and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect the sound and reinstall it and some times put it on a different shared IRQ.

Theres this annoying buzzing sound while playing music or any kind of audio, this just popped up today it was fine yesterday, and I didn't update/install anything. This only happens with the computer speakers, when I plug in headphones the sound is fine. I'd show you the audio clip but I'm not sure how, I'm not great with computers so if you need to know anything about it tell me.

What is the make and model# of your computer? Or if a custom build, the make and model# of your motherboard? Go to the Manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site, type in your make and model # and download the Audio Driver for your computer.

Hey Guys,

So here it goes, I normally have my Logitech z-5500 speakers connected to the onboard sound output (green, yellow and black) as well as my Plantronics 780 connected to the front panel USB port. I used to be able to play music through any one without any problems, just had to select which one I wanted as my default playback device.

Now my problem is, I get audio fine through the 780, but I get no sound what so ever from any of the onboard ports. I have searched online for hours trying all the suggested solutions(check below) but I'm hoping its not a device failure =(

What's weird is that just like all other posts I've read, when I plug anything into the onboard jacks I get the speakers as connected and the audio level moves with sound..but I get no output from my speakers.
What I have tested:

1) removing and reinstalling audio drivers from Asus website. - no luck
2) trying a headphone in the different jacks to see if any would give audio - no luck
3) went into the BIOS made sure I was up to date and the sound device was enabled - no luck
I can post screenshots of anything that may help in trying to resolve this problem and would appreciate anyone assisting me.
Thank you.

Ravir mate do yourself a favour and install a sound card I have the exact same board and I fitted an Asus Xonar DG after spending a load of time trying to make sense of the Asus site, RealTek site and the Windows feature which are all a crock of crap.
The GUI for the Xonar card is great for sound (up to 7:1 support) and effects and mixing. Best of all it is cheap. I have them in three of my machines and would not be bothered with the onboard rubbish. Sound Cards and Digital-to-Analog Converters - Xonar DG - ASUS

Dear helpful people

I was uninstalling some programs last night, and I somehow accidentally uninstalled my audio driver. Now whenever I turn on my PC, it says there is a new audio device on high definition audio bus, but that it can't find the driver for it. All advice on other sites said to download and install RealTek, which I have and restated my computer, but I still get the "not finding the driver" error. Is there some step I am forgetting to do, or could there be something else wrong?

I assume you need more details, but I am not sure what to give, just ask and I will get them to you right away.

A:No sound from audio device on high definition audio bus

I have now found out that device is SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio, but now whenever I try and install the setup for the driver, I get an error saying
"The audio Driver files do not support your computer hardware"

I am starting to think I uninstalled something really important, do you have any idea what I should check to ensure all the proper audio files are there, or how to replace them?

Hello. I just registered. My PC keeps freezing while I watch a movie or listen to music.

It acts like in this video:

I even plugged it into a new wall socket, and cleaned it from dust, updated Windows 10 to version 1511, and I even moved the ram memory in different slots, but the buzz still happens for a millisecond. I haven't experienced this in games afaik though.

Can anyone please help me? It is getting annoying. Before Windows 10, I had Windows 8.1, but I upgraded. This happened with Windows 8.1 as well.

My specs: Intel Core i7-4790K, 4200 MHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4 GB) 8 GB RAM

So I just updated my Toshiba laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and now I'm having audio problems. At first after I upgraded I had no sound. I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling my Realtek audio driver. Now thankfully I got my sound back, but now whenever I play audio the sound isn't clear anymore Especially when I use YouTube. I updated my Realtek audio driver from version to and I still hear the buzzing! I tried audio troubleshooting and it said the problem couldn't be identified. What do I do?

A:Continuous audio buzzing but with sound!

Hi there and welcome to the forum

Have you checked and confirmed you are using the correct audio playback device in your audio properties?

Have you got the speakers (and other settings) configured correctly in audio playback device?

Have you also checked to confirm whether running the driver in combination with Toshiba Audio Enhancement stops the speakers buzzing?

Have you tried an earlier driver version? For instance for example.

I hear a buzzing sound from my audio speakers, and this post actually explains it nearly perfectly.

Hey guys. So I finally got finished with my Cosmos Mod (which I hope to have up and posted on the forums soon ) but I'm having some trouble with buzzing and crackling with the headphones plugged into the front jack.

My Cosmos case comes equipped with the HD Azalia front audio connector in addition to the AC '97 audio connector. When completing my wire management and sleeving, I decided to remove the AC '97 connector since I only needed the HD Azalia connector, which is attached to my Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card. So I simply cut the AC '97 connector off. I did not cap each of the exposed remaining wires as they were very small in diameter and I figured I would just sleeve over it and try it.

Problem: When I plug any of my three pairs of different headphones to the front panel I have buzzing and crackling whether games or programs are making sound or not. I especially have crackling when I move my Razer Death Adder around, which seems really weird. I've got the Death Adder plugged directly into my Logitech G15. By the way, I've also got my wireless Logitech mouse plugged in and when I move that one around, there is no ill effect on the sound. ??

When I've got the headphones plugged in directly to the sound card at the back of the computer, I've got perfect silence. No interference at all with each pair o... Read more

I recently bought the HP Pavilion 15ab570TX, I've had it for only a few days before this problem arised. I was watching a series on the laptop when suddenly the sound went away, and a buzzing sound from the laptop (could be fan or from audio itself) replaced it. Now, whenever I turn on the laptop, a loud buzzing sound appears. I went on youtube to check the audio status but I couldn't hear anything eventhough the speakers icon says the speakers are okay and the sound is well above 66. What is the problem? I don't understand how it can be dust issues because I've kept the laptop clean and covered most of the time. It's been approximately three days since I received the laptop.

I've been stuggling with this for a few hours now and am at the end of my wits..

I've got two audio devices that I would like to link to my PC at once.
I've got one plug connected to the back panel, and one to the front. But one always cuts off the other. In my sound devices, the system registers them both as: "speakers, VIA High Definition Audio, Standard device"

Is there any way that I can connect them both at once, and still have both of them outputting audio?

I hope the internet will save the day!

Many thanks in advance!

I received a pc with a clean install of XP SP3 recently and there is no audio. Device Mgr shows nothing on the HDA Bus. Audio, modem, SM Bus Controller all show question marks.

I've tried installing the drivers from IBM (PC is a Thinkpad T60). Install completes but no change in HDA bus and obviously no sound. Someone suggested I go back and do the install at the SP2 level. This is not an option as the fresh install of XP was done at the SP3 level.

Any suggestions other than doing a fresh install with SP2, installing the driver and then applying SP3?

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I do not know which sound card my computer is using.
I have a Samsung Sens Q35 laptop.
When I click on the sound icon on the tray on the bottom right, the only device that is listed is Digital Audio (S/PDIF)
When I go to the device manager, it says High Definition Audio Device.
It's version 6.1.7100.0

A:No sound (High definition audio device)

I am having the exact same problem.

Works fine in XP, boot into 7 and it detects a high definition audio device and automatically installs. But the only audio device selectable is a Digital audio S/PDIF and I'm sure i don't have the connections/speakers for that.

The mixer is showing sounds coming through but I don't have a digital decoder (not sure if my terminology is correct)

Any solutions/ similar problems ? I've been searching for about a week with no luck.

So far i've tried installing the drivers that came with the mobo, the latest drivers for vista/windows x64 and disabling enabling uninstalling. Even going to the bios and searching for audio options in there (only able to set HD Audio to Auto or Disable)

I have filled out the system info specs and would appreciate the help in identifying which driver to download.

Please and thank you!

A:High Definition Audio Device - No Sound

If you have the "HD Audio Codec" listed as the sound device/driver that is the generic Windows driver and many systems need vendor specific sound drivers.

Without the actual Lenovo PC model number there is no way we (or you) can try to find the correct driver.

I experience a problem with the sound on my laptop for several days and after numerous tries, it still doesn't work. On the task bar, I have a red cross on the volume icon. And with a right click on the volume icon, I don't have internal speakers anymore, just some useless MKM-S-Speaker (which doesn't work). Even if I plug some headset, no sound is coming out. I check on the BIOS and Audio is turned on, so it shouldn't be the problem.I tried also to reinstall the IDT High Definition driver but it couldn't end as it indicates that there is a problem.I also tried to restore windows in a previous time (10 days ago) but the problem remains. Actually, I don't really know what is the next step. I just bought a notebook Lenovo G450 and I had drivers not found problem. My OS is Windows XP SP2. In Device Manager, there are four "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" device with exclamation mark. Below is the link to the screenshot of my device manager (pardon me, you have copy-paste the link manually since my post count is still below 5 so I cannot post link/image here):

There is no sound problem since I had successfully installed the sound driver from lenovo (The name is "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" as you can see on the screenshot above) and the sound is working without problem. I also had installed Microsoft UAA Bus Driver before installing the sound driver.

I had tried installing realtek and nvidia high definition audio driver and all required drivers from lenovo (, but still no avail. The four yellow exclamation marks is still exist.

Got a niggling problem with installing a driver for my onboard sound. I recently bought a motherboard bundle (Nforce 7050M-M) and I have got everything working fine but I just cannot install the driver for this. I'm currently using OS XP SP3.

It seems like I have tried every everthing that i've seen posted on a similar problem. I have all the latest drivers for windows, motherboard & Bios.

When I first had the problem it was a code 39 error on the device manager, now its a code 1 error (i'm can't rembmer at what point this changed as i've tried so many things).

Does anyone have solution for this problem?

Just reinstalled windows xp. Reinstalled all my drivers, but I'm not sure what this "audio device on high definition audio bus" driver is; that device driver has put that yellow question mark next to. I've looked and looked on Google, it seems some people have fixed with video card drivers, others, motherboard drivers. I'm using a fatality pro soundblaster card.

I've tried to download the audio drivers for the maximus formula, but I believe this goes to the sound card that comes with the mobo, which I am not using. When I try to install, it says that it doesn't match my hardware, and aborts.

I have also disabled on-board sound or the equivalent thereof for this board, in BIOS.

My chipset is X38, and my SB is 82801IR (ICH9R).

Also, if it helps, the device instance id is:

Oh, and thanks!!!

A:audio device on high definition audio bus -- ASUS Maximus Formula

Are you getting sound through the sound card? Did you install the drivers to the sound card? Try to enable on-board and see if you get sound from the card? After you enable on-board, install drivers for it, then go back and disable it so it might shut up.

I am new to this forum. I have searched for related problems here but did not find anything relevant, my apologies if this is a duplicate. What follows is a copy of a message sent to VIA (in Taiwan apparently):

I seem to be having some issues with your VIA High Definition Audo drivers in an Asus K60IJ-series laptop (purchased in 2010). The driver version is dated 09/07/2009. It works fine on its own but when I try to add an external audio device to the system, I run into problems:

- I was not able to make a Toshiba Bluetooth Stack (driving a Kensington K33902 dongle) produce any audio: Windows will not let me set the bluetooth-connected external audio device (Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter, provides no Win7 drivers) as a default device while you drivers are installed. If I remove your drivers and allow Windows to install its default drivers instead, I can now choose the Bluetooth device as default but still get no audio out of it, nor out of your VIA audio chipset either (it seems the generic Windows drivers are not compatible with your chipset).

- Am having similar problems with a Creative Digital HS-1200 bluetooth headset: the headset is automatically set as default when the Bluetooth interface is plugged into USB port, but the default can't be changed, and Windows Media Player complains that there are no audio drivers for it (it appears OK under Device Manager)... Hello sybernut mate this is the site where you need to go to get drivers the Windows feature is not something I am a fan of and find it is far better to get the drivers straight form the machine's manufacturers site or the device in side the machine site. - in the manual section it tells you how to set up Blu tooth stuff. The drivers are all there - I am linking to the Asus K60IJ notebook form your specs.

Now if you want in depth details of the components see this
Using HW Info
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic.
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.
Use Part B: (see pic for an example - I have shown you my RAM you need to click on one of the +'s until you find the Blu tooth info probably Network)

Hello, my name is steven and I would like to begin by saying that I am an amateur when it comes to working with computers. I wanted to free up space to operate my computer faster and hopefully stop lagging while playing games or just browsing for that matter and it seems the only certain amount of RAM to add to increase my speed is the lowest that is sold @ kingston technology which is a 1GB card. Unfortunately, being the amateur I am, I was stumped here , where they ask for my manufacturer, product line, and model. I plugged in all the numbers I could think of that might work for each but nothing matched when it came to the model # and I personally have no clue what my product line is so as I said I was just guessing I have all the information about my computer (from what I believe to be the complete transcript of it) and I just need to be able to answer the questions on kingston technologie's website so I can get my recommended RAM card that will hopefully be compatible with my computer. Nothing about product line is stated and the manufacturer of the cpu is unclear and so I would like help identifying the answers to the three questions posed on kingston technologies website.

I have reinstalled Windows 7 twice and there is still no sound coming out of my speakers. I went to the HP Site and downloaded the latest (Windows Vista) Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers for my laptop model. Even with the drivers loaded, there is still no sound on my laptop. There is sound when I put on my headphones and after I pull it out the speakers run for a second and then no sound again.

My Laptop model is Compaq Presario V2000 V2602TN

I've located the drivers for my laptop here:
Select software and drivers*

I've installed the Conexant Audio Drivers but it didn't work. I tried to install the chipset driver but it wouldn't want to continue the installation because it doesn't recognize Windows 7.

UPDATE: I finally got it to work!

What I did was I uninstalled the driver I got from HP and forced a Windows Update. The update from Windows got the correct Conexant High Definition Audio for this laptop model.

I have tried to update the driver from both Realteks and MSIs web pages - no luck.
I have tried to connect my headphones in both rear and front - no luck.

I do have the Realtek HD Audio Manager
I have noticed that when I mark "Disable front panel jack detection" in the Realtek HD audio manager, the headphones appears to be connected in the playback tab, when I uncheck it, the headphones seems to be disconnected in the playback tab.

Can anyone help me please

The only problem was i had no CD that came with my laptop so i had to find the drivers online. I went to and put in my model number and found the right laptop. I went to the Audio tab and 3 driver options came up. Not knowing which was the right one i downloaded/installed them all.
Before we go any further ill give the spec's of my PC and what driver i deleted.

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Aspire V3-571
System type: 64 bit operating system

To delete my drivers i went to Start>Right click on my computer> Properties>Device Manager>Sound, Video, Game Controllers tab, and then right clicked the driver and clicked remove.

The two Drivers that came up under the 'Sound, Video, Game Controllers' tab were:
- Intel (R) Display Audio
- Realtek High definition Audio (I deleted this one because this is my sound)

Once i deleted this Realtek Audio driver i lost sound instantly (which was expected) and proceeded to download the 3 drivers from the Acer Website. Here is the link to the website and the drivers i d... Read more

A:No Sound on PC (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver)

So today i downloaded Assassins Creed 1 and proceeded to install. The installation worked fine and when i click the Assassins Creed Icon on my desktop i get this message:

"Your Sound-Driver is currently used by an other application. Close any application using your Sound-Driver and try again... else you'll not be able to hear and sounds or musics."

I looked in Device manager under the 'Sound' tab and my sound drivers are working fine. I have sound and haven't even had a sound problem since i got this PC. I thought it might have been the download but i downloaded a bunch of different ones and i keep getting the same message. Any help would be amazing. Here are my specs:

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Aspire V3-571
System type: 64 bit

I don't see how re-installing my sound drivers would fix this problem because everything works fine... so instead of suggesting that lets try something else.

I think my question is this: how do I set up VSX-1124 (a Pioneer AVR) in Control Panel/Sound and Hardware/Sound so that its driver is Realtek HD Audio and not the Intel Display Audio one?

In Device Manager under Sound, Video and game controllers, I have two sound card drivers, Realtek High Definition and Intel Display Audio. I don't understand how Realtek High Definition Audio drivers work in relation to the Intel Display Audio drivers. If I go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound then Playback, there are four options, as you can see from the picture below.

I'm guessing that if I choose the receiver as my default device that I'm using the Intel Display Audio drivers and any of the other three options that I'm using the Realtek drivers. Is this correct? If the receiver is the default device, everything works fine; I get sound from sites like and I can listen to internet radio, etc. However, if Speakers are the default device, I don't get sound. Is this normal? If so, what's the reason for having Realtek? If it isn't normal, will I notice a difference if I use the Realtek drivers? If I would see/hear a difference, how do I get them to work?

A:Realtek High Definition Audio and Intel Display Audio

The RealTek is for the regular PC sound. The Intel Display Audio is for HDMI sound. If an HDMI cable is plugged in Windows will automatically default to the HDMI as the "default playback device". If you have an HDMI cable plugged in and want the PC sound you must manually change the playback device. If you want both HDMI and PC audio, you can't have that as Windows will only allow one default audio playback device.

Does this answer the question?

On my lenovo T61 I just installed windows xp and there are quite a few drivers missing that i am looking for. I found what I thought was the solution to the audio problem here:
but it didn't seem to work. Since I don't have internet on the computer i just switched to xp, I downloaded what was on that website onto a usb drive and then installed it on the computer I'm trying to fix. It still says that I am missing the "audio device on high definition audio bus". Shouldn't the file at the above link take care of the problem? Anyone know where I could find the driver I need?

A:audio device on high definition audio bus missing for xp pro on lenovo t61 pc

bad thing about IBM's website is they sometimes post more than one driver. Look through the list to see if there are anymore audio drivers for Xp listed.

I could look, but IBM's site needs the unit type in order to look for drivers/manuals. 4 diget number on the white sticker on bottom of the laptop. for example

- ThinkPad R61(type):
- 7732, 7733, 7735, 7736, 7737, 7738, 7742
- 7743, 7751, 7753, 7754, 7755
- 8914, 8918, 8919, 8920, 8927, 8928, 8929
- 8942, 8943, 8944, 8945, 8947, 8948, 8949

those are laptop types that IBM uses, am sure you noticed that on the page you linked :)

After having my motherboard, graphics card and RAM replaced due to a power surge, I have been experiencing high audio latency, along with very poor sound quality which includes static noise, crackling. The sound is similar to that of an untuned radio.
The sound quality is decent when I am running limited audio programs, but when I run multiple (Such as Skype + Youtube), the sound quality starts to become poor.
The sound quality also becomes poor quite frequently when I am only running one audio program.\

I've already tried going into Device manager and disabling/reenabling drivers to see if they were the cause of the problem.
I've also tried updating the drivers to the latest version.

Not really sure what to do now, help is appreciated gratefully.

FWIW, the DPC Latency Checker is not fully Win 8 compatible (there is notice on their web site) and it can give you false latency hits.

The Resplendence Latency monitor is Win 8 compatible.

I dual booted win7 along with win xp . My sound card , Zonar Dg works fine in xp . i loaded the drivers for win7 . The sound bar in the speaker in task bar shows audio is playing and also shows playing in Zonar program . No sound is coming from speakers .

Note : Sound did come from speakers one time . I think it was a video but no sound from any mp3 files on my pc . Sound since has never worked . Only that one time . Very odd I think .

I have tried all the usual things since I am used to re installing xp many times . not muted . DG card selected as default . Speakers set to proper mode in zonar app .

I tried using the realtek audio on my motherboard , which does work in XP . Not working in 7 .

I am stumpped on this one . Maybe I could use the xp compatibility ? Never used this so really do not know much about it .

thank you for any help .

If you have the RealTek enabled, disable it in the BIOS. It can cause conflicts and potentially the problem you have. Windows 7 will only allow one default audio playback device, unlike XP that would allow more.

Hello everyone, well, for the past few days now. I've been experiencing this issue of having no sound. On the lower-right corner of the system tray, there is a Speaker icon with a red circle with a white "x" on it. So naturally, I assumed that this must be due to the sound drivers corrupting. So I went to the manufacturer's website for my Notebook. Which is an Acer Aspire 4730Z running on Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.

The drivers I downloaded were Realtek High Definition Audio, after the files finished downloading I reinstalled them, only to encounter yet another problem. Which was that they failed to install. The specific error message that appeared was "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure". So I tried to install it again, this time through the Device Manager by updating the driver software. This also, did not work, the error message for that was "This operation returned because the timeout period expired".

I've also tried the System File Checker tool, Microsoft Mr. Fix-It tool, the Check Disk utility, editing specific Registry entries in the Registry Editor, resetting the Services back to their defaults. Absolutely nothing has been successful so far. I've even attempted to reboot into Safe Mode, and install the software. Which surprisingly enough, worked. I rebooted my computer again for the changes to take effect, just when I had thought that I finally solved this annoying dilemma, restarting comput... Read more

For the keyboard, if you are in the UK, get to 'Control Panel', 'Regional & Language', 'Keyboards and Languages'.Select 'Change keyboards' then scroll down and look for 'English - UK'.You may have to change anything else in that window which is 'US' and set it to 'UK'.

Hi everyone, I would be very grateful for some help please!

My laptop recently installed a BIOS update - I don't know what this was but since it happened I have been having sound problems with my laptop. After the update I had no sound. I read around and found how to get the sound back on - I did this by uninstalling AMD high definition audio device and high definition audio device. I would then restart the laptop and the sound would be working again. But when the laptop would be turned off, on turning back on it would re-install the above 2 things again automatically and the sound would no longer work.

I noticed that when the sound was working realtek high definition audio was listed under sound, video and game controllers in the device manager and when it wasn't working this wasn't there. Every time I uninstalled the AMD high definition audio device and high definition audio device the realtek one would be automatically installed when the laptop was restarted but then taken off on the next restart. I tried disabling the first 2 to see if that made any difference but it didn't. I noticed the drivers could be removed for the AMD high definition audio device so I tried that - that is now fully removed but I still have the problem with sound.

My laptop keeps automatically installing high definition audio device. When this is listed the sound doesn't work and the realtek high definition audio isn't listed. When I uninstall that - on the first restart the realte... Read more

A:realtek high definition audio and high definition audio device problem

First, the AMD High Definition Audio Device is ONLY for HDMI audio. It has nothing to do with the PC audio (speakers and/or headset).

Are you sure it was a BIOS update? Those are normally not automatic. The BIOS is the heart of the PC and controls the hardware configurations.

The basic Windows installed High Definition Audio Coded/Device is a generic audio driver. It can be installed for the PC audio and/or the HDMI audio. As this is a generic, basic function driver, the correct hardware driver needs to be installed.

Without the actual HP model number, I can't research what actually belongs on your PC. Apparently it is RealTek, but as it isn't functioning properly, or conflicting I still need to research the PC's specs.

A:conexant high definition audio and intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI

The Conexant HD Audio would be the device that supplies the Stereo Mixer, if Gateway enabled it. Some vendors have not enabled it to avoid DRM (Digital Rights Management) issues. I've seen a couple of Dell's that way.

Have you tried reinstalling the Gateway supplied driver? If not, give that a try first.

Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / NV Series / NV54

If that does not work, unless you can find a compatible Conexant driver somewhere else you may be doomed.

Hello all.
I have Bluetooth speaker that I have hooked up to my computer and is working properly.
I would like to also use the laptop speakers simultaneously to create a kind of surround sound system.
Is this possible? I have found many threads saying that it isn't.

When I use the audio device settings it just changes between the 2 outputs, it doesn't seem to allow me to use them both at once.
Is there any freeware that allows for this type of configuration?

A:Playing sound through two audio devices simultaneously

If the bluetooth speaker connects via a transmitter connected to the 3.5mm jack then its possible, otherwise its not.

I've spent alot of time to set the setting but it's not working, I updated the latest driver(realtek) and default the setting. The result is the same.

The audio is not balanced, like when you play a song, the bass will overcome the main voice, or the vocal will overcome the main voice.

Can anyone explain this?
Gladly appreciate for any help.

Hello game333,

I know what you mean and its hence why i don't use it.

But for now, how are you listening to your music/sounds?
Headphones or the built in speakers?

Try lowering the SRS WOW effect and see if that makes a difference.

Also, i would highly assume that the SRS is more suited to surround sound speaker systems but that is just speculation.

So I built this computer a few weeks ago with Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything sound-wise has been working til a few days ago, but I have been working through some video problems.
Since this started on Friday, the sound mixer/volume control shows sound playing. But nothing comes out the speakers. When I click the top, it doesn't say 'speakers', it says 'Realtek audio'. When I click that, the sound window comes up and under "jacks" it says "rear optical jack." The top says S/PDIF. Those are both formats that I have never used on this system. I've always used only the rear panel analog jack.

Anyways, I feel like I've tried everything under the sun and I'm close to RMA'ing the motherboard. It's that bad. Anyhelp is uber appreciated. Thanks guys

My computer died recently, so I dug out some fossil from way back to at least listen to music/watch some movies until I can buy a new one(Which won't be anytime soon). I hooked up the HDD from the dead PC to this one and everything is working OK(all things considered). However, I can't seem to be enable the sound. On paper everything seems fine even the "needles" are twitching(see image in the link) when I play an audio file but sound won't come out. The only Playback device available in the list is "Digital Audio (S/PDIF) 2- High Definiton Audio Device".

I checked the drivers and everything is up to date.
I hooked up the Speakers to the laptop they're working fine.

Help me out please, without the sound this thing is basically glorified texting machine.

Please fill in the "My System Specs" so we know what hardware you have.

Does the speakers do the same thing?

Have you tried a different headset?

Do you have the correct sound driver? The PC vendor (or motheboard in the case of a home/custom built system) sound drivers should be used. Non vendor drivers can be a problem in some systems.

My machine got infected with Viruses when it was rebuilt and the Virus protection software was not reloaded!

Over the last 10 days I have used McAfee, XoftSpySE, RegCure and Spyware Doctor to remove the majority of Viruses.

I still have one very annoying virus which none of the above can solve. An audio feed will suddenly start playing through my system without any prior action, it even starts if there is no one using the system! It is not always the same audio feed, they come in many lanuguages. Just this morning an American news feed started while I was checking my e-mail. There is no program running when the feed is playing, I can only assume it is some kind of process with a timer or a triggering mechanism to start playing.

Please help!

Kind regards.

Sounds to me like you’ve got a rogue process running in there somewhere, and it’s probably either coming from a system start up location or running as a scheduled task. Looks to me like you’ve already made a good start with software to track this down, however, I’ve personally found AdAware to be the most reliable at this sort of thing, so perhaps you could give that a go (available here and see what it turns up?

To check the Scheduled Tasks list, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks and see if there’s anything you don’t recognise in there; by default, this list should be empty, with only the ‘Add Scheduled Task’ icon displayed.

To check your Startup list, run MSCONFIG from the Start Menu’s RUN command, and then selecting the STARTUP tab. Look towards the bottom of the list for anything you don’t recognise in there, and Google it to see if it’s recognised as malware.

If you’ve still found nothing, then the next step involves searching in the registry, which if you’ve never done it before, can be a bit daunting, however, it may turn out to be the only thing short of an OS reinstall that sorts things like this out. Be CAREFUL here, because it’s really easy to mess up your entire system if the wrong thing is edited in the Registry You access the registry from the Start Menu’s RUN command by entering REGEDIT. What is the Problem know please can anyone help me ?

A:5.1 Sound doesnt work at Realtek High Definition Audio Device

Do you have the VIA HD Audio Deck installed with your sound driver. It may be in the control panel, systray or not installed. It should be compatible with your realtek onboard audio. I usually have more luck using this to configure my speaker setup than windows as in may versions it supports jack switching.

First off, I will not claim to be technologically gifted, so please be patient;

I've had a reoccurring issue with my Asus Laptop. Whenever I play music it starts to make this strange guttural sound, accompanied by bouts of freezing and frustratingly slow speeds and responses from my computer. It sounds incredibly similar to this youtube video I found researching my issue. ASUS G73 laptop stops and makes weird noise for a second (couple of times.) - YouTube

I've used my included recovery disk, and that fixed the problem for a couple months. But the problem returned, and at a loss for what to do, I decided to try to uninstall my sound driver, with the intention of reinstalling it. I restarted and was presented with a new driver "High Definition Audio Device." I don't want to irreversibly destroy anything by continuing this blind voyage. What do I do next? Assuming you have a Win 7 (or Vista) RealTek driver installed.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there were some type of corruption between RealTek and Windows this will fix it.

Audio cd's stop playing after a minute + also having trouble ripping audio cd's to my computer.

I need some help and not sure what to do next? Seems this problem is common but I can't seem to get it down. I'm far from a expert so please help me...

My dad has a Compaq presario SR5550f w/ Vista 32bit w/ service pack 2 up to date.
When he try's to play audio cd's he get's this message.

Windows Media Player cannot read the CD. The disc might be dirty or damaged. Turn on Error correction, and then try again.

CD player plays only 1 minute and 3 seconds before error-ing out (although still plays DVDs). So, I thought Ok, let me rip his music and he can play off his comp. But when I try to rip audio it's goes about 20% and gives me a read error.

So, I turned on Error correction and nothing.

Seen in a few forums that I should update the drivers.

I uninstalled the burner driver from the device manager and nothing still.

I updated his Nvidia graphics driver just fine but it didn't find any thing for the motherboard?

I also updated his audio driver from the hp website.

So, after all that I thought maybe it's a hard ware issue? So, I changed out this burner for a new one and it still does the same thing?

have tested other cd-rs & retail audio disc. For some reason it's just audio's and ripping?

The other day he watched a whole dvd movie just fine!

I noticed that very occasionally, my computer will hang. Nothing will respond, not even Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and the only way out of it is to force a shut down by holding down the power button.

I also noticed that this has always occurred when audio is playing. The audio will loop infinitely once the computer hangs. Sometimes, when I hold down the power button for a while, the system will unhang. Other times it will not.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
Sound card: Realtek ALC662
I should also mention that the machine is a laptop!

I can't update to the latest Realtek drivers because that causes the sound to start crackling and fizzing really badly (stupid bug). I also don't have any minidumps as the computer doesn't get a BSOD, it just hangs and I have to force shutdown.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem or what I can do to help you solve this problem?

Hello everyone. I am using a old-ish Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. So, every time I'm playing songs on YouTube, then open FL Studio 10, FLS 10 won't let me play or record any audio. When I look at the "ASIO4ALL" box it has A little red "X" on audio output(I use "Realtek HD Audio" if that helps). Now when I stop the internet audio/YouTube and restart FLS 10, the little red "X" is gone and all the sound works... I was wondering how to play Internet audio while playing or recording audio on FL Studio 10 is there something I can tweak with the laptop audio or some better sound program I can download free(or not free)and not have to get a new sound card??? Thank you for your time. Peace.

After I disassembled and reassembled my laptop, I turned it on and there was no sound coming from the speakers. I thought I must have forgot to plug in the small speaker cord from underneath the motherboard, so I reassembled it again. I cannot say 100% that the cord was unplugged, because when I disassembled it again, I ripped the ribbon cable from the power board so I was distracted by that (the ribbon cable is sticky on one side and apparently it got loose and somehow it got mixed up with the DVD case, so when I pulled out the DVD case, it ripped the cable). After I was sure that the speaker cable was plugged in and after I replaced the ribbon cable, I reassembled it and there was still no sound.
When I open the device manager, I see a yellow exclamation mark next to Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. I tried updating/installing it, but it says:
"windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
High Definition Audio Device
The system cannot find the file specified."
I went to the ASUS page and downloaded Realtek High Definition Audio, but again, no change.
Also, system sounds are OK, e.g. when there's an UAC notification.
Thanks for all your help!

Did you uninstall all of the audio drivers before trying to install the new ones. If one of the files was unchanged by the update but corrupted or missing that could explain the problem.

Yesterday I started getting a rhythmic (stays in-time, not random) popping/clicking sound whenever I play certain audio sources. This happens on any of my devices whether they are connected directly to my computer, or to my computer via my external USB amp/DAC (an O2+ODAC Combo from JDSLabs). Youtube audio, for example, causes it, even if the Youtube video is muted in the browser. The popping/clicking sounds remain for an indeterminate time after the audio stops, ranging from a few seconds, to indefinitely (until I restart my computer). There doesn't seem to be any other performance/functional problems with my computer that I have noticed.

The only change I've made to my computer recently was I replaced one of my two monitors 2 days ago, but it was working just fine all that day (without this problem) until I woke up the next day.

I have tried increasing the minimum processor usage (as I've seen recommended for problems like this one) to no avail. I've also run both my anti-virus (Emsisoft Anti-Virus) and Malwarebytes.

Based on research I've already done, it could be a DPC Latency problem (seems to have similar symptoms), but I am having a hard time figuring out if that is the case, and if so, how to fix it. I installed the Windows Performance Toolkit, and have run xperf. I did it as follows:

I ran

xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER+PROFILE+INTERRUPT+DPC+DRIVERS+POWER+IDLE_STATES -stackwalk Profile -BufferSize 1024 -MinBuffers 256 -MaxBuffers 256... Read more

I have homebuilt core i7 930 running an asus p5 premium. Whether I use onboard sound (realtek), sound blaster pcix titanium, or sound blaster omni usb, I get strange behavior where the sound will drop out while I'm watching a tv app (hdhomerun, or kodi as well), or listening to music.. at random times, could be 5 minutes, could be 45 minutes. To get the sound back, if I click the speaker icon and click the bar that plays the windows ding, it plays (a little crackly during the first few milliseconds, then clear, like it's waking up) and then sound plays normally until this happens again. So it's propagating through multiple different drivers. I read somewhere that audio devices can sleep (I suppose laptops mainly? Maybe I read it wrong).

Did some searches, found nothing similar, most are "no sound". Thoughts?

Whenever I play any audio, I get a sharp spike in CPU usage - one core jumps to > 75% and the other remains around 20%, and the image that's causing the spike in usage is "System". I checked for viruses and malware using SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes, a few things found but none that were indicative of anything (a few PUP.Optional files lying around and some things that were false positives).

Thinking it was a driver, I rolled back the driver and tried, same thing. I reinstalled the driver, same thing. I updated the driver, same thing. Why's this happening?

Hello people;

This is a first time post, bu I am confused as hell and need some guidance;

I built a HTPC today (Zotac GeForce 9300, mini ITX, E5300, XP). I've booted it up all good and proper, however I can't seem to get audio over HDMI.

I've installed realtek fine (as i can hear with headphones/speakers), but the problem appears to lie with the Nvidia drivers. I've repeatedly tried installing and uninstalling these drivers, but have had no luck.

A quick look round in other forums suggested that it was an issue with the nvidia drivers release, so i unstalled it; but the generic Audio On High Definition Audio Bus from MS doesn't really do anything.

Has anyone come across the problem or know of a fix? Alternatively, are there any 'standard audio on high definition audio bus' drivers out there that i could use to get sound out of my tv?

Help would be appreciated!

Also, where are you downloading the drivers from? Are you downloading from the m/b website? Be sure you are downloading the chipset drivers as well as the nvidia graphics driver from their site. btw... I have seen a similar situation to yours once before. Turned out nvidia didn't use the MS UAA generic driver. Rather, nvidia included their own bundled into the graphics card driver download file

When I'm loading Civ 5, Sims 3 and Sims 2, I can hear loud buzzing/screeching form inside my case. It only occurs when first loading the games, not like when I'm actually in a household in Sims or moving units in Civ, and stops if I bring up another window when they're loading. As soon as a switch back to their window, though, the sounds start again. I'm well above required and recommended specs for the games that cause the buzzing, and I had the same problem on my old computer, which was also above recommended specs. I am experiencing a buzzing sound when I play music online.  I primarily listen to music through the microblogging site Tumblr.  For example, if I had a song playing for a minute or so and opened a new tab I will hear a buzzing sound for anywhere between 2 to 10 seconds.  Other times, particularly during songs that are longer, the audio will fail and I will get an error message with a red x on the song I clicked.  Neither of these problems happen all the time.  The buzz is more prominent and seems to happen more frequently when I am opening and closing tabs.
I have narrowed this down somewhat.  It does not happen when I play an actual CD in the drive.  It does not happen when I listen to a song on Youtube.  It does not happen if I play an mp3 that I have saved on my computer.  It does not happen when streaming a podcast.  I have listened to podcasts that are over an hour long and did not get the buzzing or failed audio message.  It does not happen in Internet Explorer.
This seems to be related to tumblr sites and/or Chrome.  I have pasted a link as an example of a song where this occurs.
Things I have tried:
1. Updated the drivers
2. Scanned for viruses/malware
3. Updated Windows

First of all here are my specs:

Computer is an E-Machines T2642.
Motherboard: IM845GV
OS: Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 1)

Now my problem. About 4 days ago my sound stopped working on my computer. I checked the device manager and found multimedia audio controller listed as an other device with a question mark next to it. The properties lists the device as not having any drivers installed. I have tryed installing and rolling backthe drivers to no effect.

Another problem that I seem to have is my network connections shows a local area connection as having a network cable unpluged, with the device name being Realtek RTL8139/810X Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. I have tryed unintalling the realtek device and adding it again, but when I do it seems to generate the unknown multimedia audio controller which I suspect is the source of my problem.

So any advice on what exactly I need to do to fix this and get the sound back? At this point I suspect that the "sound card" on my motherboard may be fried. Help would be appricaited.

Recently, my audio quality has taken a leap of faith and landed two-hundred floors below splattered on the pavement. The speakers play the sound itself alright, but it is accompanied by a buzzing. Like as if someone is talking into a microphone, but the microphone is way too close to their mouth. I've found that this problem can be temporarily fixed by going into my playback devices, speakers, properties, advanced, and then randomly changing the sample rate and clicking apply. This lasts for about 30 mins to an hour. That time can be shortened even further if I am watching a YouTube video (which I am, all day every day) and I pause it. For whatever reason, when I go to play it again, the sound goes back to basically blown speakers. I don't get it. I know the laptop is covered by warranty, and considering it's directly affecting the experience I'm getting from it, I think a free repair/replacement is in order. I've only had this thing for 3/4 of a year. I've never dropped it, I don't listen to the volume on full blast (seldom higher than 40), and quite frankly, this is bull****. I've updated every driver to the latest version, so don't try to tell me that's the problem.
