Assign applications to multiple sound devices

Q: Assign applications to multiple sound devices

Sometimes I watch movies using HDMI output from my computer. When I connect the HDMI cable windows also discovers new sound device. I want to redirect some of outputs to the television so I can use its speakers.
For now, what I do is that I disable the internal sound card and system automatically uses HDMI then.
Thank you for any help

A: Assign applications to multiple sound devices

In many systems, when you plug an HDMI cable into the PC Windows will automatically set the HDMI as the Default audio playback device. If Windows is detecting a new device it suggests the Video drivers (usually where the HDMI audio is generated) may not be the correct driver.

Like the title says i want to know if it possible and if it is i want to know how to assign different applications to use different sound devices. For example i want chrome to use my onboard sound card while something like vlc to use my G430 gaming headset
which is connected via usb and recognized as another audio device.

I use my pc to watch movies. It is connected to my tv via hdmi and sound system via SPDIF optical cable. Everything works fine, but sometimes I want listen to music or other apps through my headphones, while someone else listens through sound system.
How can I do that?

Windows 7 volume mixer shows both outputs and I can control the sound of different apps and mute them, but I can't assign specific applications (music player, browser) to other sound outputs.
One time the browser was assigned to speakers (headphones) rather than SPDIF, but I couldn't assign apps myself.
Thanks in advance.

A:How to assign applications to different sound outputs

Do you have the onboard sound plus a 2nd added sound card?

If not then you won't be able to split 2 different types of Audio to different sources.

You can assign the source of the one sound you wish to listen to though, just go to start>control panel>sound, you will then see the picture below.

Just right click on the one you want to use for the output and set as default device.

My computer has built in sound, it also has sound over HDMI.

The video playback software that came with my blueray drive recognizes the sound over HDMI, and gives me the option to use it, while everything else comes out the computer's speakers.

Can I do this with a single program? I'd REALLY like to set my VM to the sound over HDMI, but that's not the point here [but I'm open for ideas there!]

My main goal is to have one of my browsers [Chrome preferred] use the HDMI sound while the rest of the computer continues to use the standard sound output

A:Can I assign programs to multiple sound outputs?

You can only have one default audio playback device. You can't have some sound go to the PC's speakers and others go to the HDMI at the same time. It has to be one or the other.

I have an onboard realtec 97 sound device, and it has multiple plugs on the back of my cpu, Green, for speakers, pink for mic, then theres a blue, black and orange plugs also.

I dont know what the blue black and orange ones are for, but my question is this.

I have a headset with a mic, which had a seperate jack for the earpiece and the mic, i use both ventrillo and teamspeak but not both at the same time, and i was wondering if it was possible to plug the earpiece into something to just use the ventrillo or teamspeak audio streams, while having the regular desktop speakers broadcast the sound from a game and my sirius satellite radio. currently all sound comes from the speakers, green plug, what exactly are the blue, orange and black plug for? and is the above scenario possible? thanks.

A:Sound stream splitting? multiple plugs for sound devices

Im not sure whether you can split the stream or either turning it on and off as you wish. But what i know is the function of those colour plugs.
It all means that your sound card is compatible with 7.1 theater speaker configuration. As i remember, green is for front channels, blue is for rear channels, red is for subwoofer and centre speaker, and orange is for middle (7.1) channels. Don;t worry about all these colours, it shows that your soundcard is good. However i've even came across with an integrated sound card which has 6 plugs (2green, red, blue, orange, red, and black).

i have speakers connected to the hdmi and have a fm transmitter connected to the headphones jack. how do i get the soud to come out of both? Picture:

A:Sound from multiple devices

You can't have sound from both at same time - it's either one or other because the headphone jack is designed to mute the speakers when headphones are plugged into it.

I use laptop, with system speaker volume too low, almost inaudible.
It has inbuilt sigmatel HD audio, with 3.5 mm jack ( I do connect my headphone with it).
I also posses a bluetooth headset (DELL).

Is there any way I can get output to both the headsets?

I need this to watch movie, so that me and my room partner can easily listen via saperate sets fo headphone without difficulty.

A:using multiple sound devices

as far as i know you cannot output to two audio devices at the same time from one program unless the program alows this (eg. PCDJ)

To solve the problem you could get a 3.5mm spliter and another set of 3.5mm headphones but this would probably require a trip to an electronics shop unless you have one already.

also post what OS you are running in case someone else knows of another way.

I wanna know is there a way I can make sound played from firefox play through my monitor while sound from vlc media player play through my headphones.I know if I have my monitor as my default and I play a game I can set the game in the preferences to play through my headphones which allows me to play sound through my headphones and monitor.

A:How to assign playback from two devices

Windows only allows one default playback device. e.g. "Speakers" or "HDMI". There may be some third party application that will allow doing what you want, but the basic Windows install will not. (This is the same on Vista and Windows 8 too).

Hiya, hope someone can help. XP has decided not to assign a drive letter to any flash card reader/USB drive I use in my PC (previously used drives no longer have a drive letter in Explorer)

Going into Computer Management/Disk Management the drives are detected with no drive letter, I can give them a letter and access them but the letter doesn't stick, nor is it seen in Explorer (ie remove drive and replug, no letter, no auto open options and no sign of it in Explorer)

I've tried going into regedit, mounted devices and deleting all letters (apart from A-floppy, C-Main HD, D-Optical drive obviously) to try to force XP to assign a letter.

I don't want to do a system restore (all drives worked before) as I've just managed to instal SP3 RC2 after a lot of hassle plus I suspect this has nothing to do with my new/odd USB drive problem.

All other USB peripherals work perfectly, tis just Mass Storage Devices won't display, I tried a new drive and XP went through the New hardware bit, recognised it, said it was ready but didn't assign it a letter/ open it.

Any ideas how I can force Explorer to open the drives ? (going through Admin Tools is a pain after all)

I am currently having a network card with multiple IPs running Windows Server 2003.

Let's say that I want one program to do all its network communication with one ip and another program to use one of the other ips - how could I accomplish this?

A:Multiple IPs: Assign certain IP to specific program

That'll really only work inbound. Initiated connections [outbound] won't do so well, especially UDP (source IP will be first bound NIC)

For inbound, you simply make the service only listen on that IP.

For example: You can bind an IIS site to a specific IP, so now only port 80 is listening on a specific iP.

Hi there

Not sure whats happening here but getting multiple displays for the same devices !!!!

Any fix, or is system Broken.

A:Devices and Printers - devices being displayed multiple times

Looks like Ghosts of DLNA devices. Start by taking offline any DLNA capable gear, reboot the Gateway and also clear its IP Table.

Also clear out those ghosts from Devices and Printers.

For some reason this started in Windows 7, when Microsoft started to play games with DLNA and media Shares.

I've been stuggling with this for a few hours now and am at the end of my wits..

I've got two audio devices that I would like to link to my PC at once.
I've got one plug connected to the back panel, and one to the front. But one always cuts off the other. In my sound devices, the system registers them both as: "speakers, VIA High Definition Audio, Standard device"

Is there any way that I can connect them both at once, and still have both of them outputting audio?

I hope the internet will save the day!

Many thanks in advance!

If you use realtek,

Otherwise You're pretty much screwed, only other way is to use Virtual audio cable, but you'd have to set it up every time you booted (and it costs 20$)

Just wondering if anybody could help me.

I have Vista Home Premium 64bit and also a Creative Soundblaster Soundcard.
I was wondering if you can output different applications to the different devices?
i.e. Speakers for Music and Game through Headphones.

Some applications have this feature in the software. i.e. Propellerheads Reason 4.0 allows you to chose the Output device of the sounds in the preferences menu.

If anybody can help, appreciate it.
Can't think what else to say but it you want to know something that could help just ask me

A:Output Different Applications to Different Devices?

I've never actually tried this but it might be achievable by going to your playback devices and setting them to 'allow applications to take exclusive control'.

In your playback devices be sure to have both your headphones and speakers enabled.

Depending on which of your applications can choose a dedicated output you will either have to do one of the following:

if the game you play allows you to select headphones, do this and set your speakers as default audio device. your game should 'take exclusive control' of your headphones while your mediaplayer plays normally on your speakers.

if the media playback software allows you to select speakers, do this and set your headphones as default audio device. your media player should take exclusive control of your speakers and your game plays normally on your headphones.

If this doesn't work try looking for solutions on creative forums.
If it is possible with the creative drivers/programs surely you should be able to find out on their site(s).

Good luck!

I'm not sure if this is MOBO related and/or Win 7 Pro.

In short terms, Win 7 Pro have assigned VGA and my sound card to same 16 IRQ number. Plus a several different PCI and USB controllers has been assigned to same IRQ.

That architecture is causing much clicks and pops in Cubase 5/6. I had same problem before in old DAW:s. But then, assigned sound card to different, dedicated IRQ - solves the problem on the spot. Well that was in old good days with Win 98, 2000, XP

For the moment, I was able to disable some USB controllers away from shared shared IRQ with noticeable better results in audio performance, but unfortunately the side effect was blue screen every time I turned off or restarted PC. Maybe I haven't done it proper way?

Now I think that I have following options and I need help to realize some of them:

1. Assign dedicated IRQ number to PCI-slot sound card;

2. Make as much as possible space on that IRQ so that PCI-slot sound card can work frealy;

3. Reinstall Win 7 with sound card present in PCI-slot and hopping that Win 7 will give it another IRQ?

3. Assign a dedicated IRQ to VGA card;

4. Re-alocate PCI-slot sound card into PCIEX1_1 slot with this adapter: PCI Express to PCI Adapter (Will Win 7 assign different IRQ then??)

5. Replace my current GA-X58A-UD5 MOBO with some from GA-P55 line as they have 3 x PCI slots.

During Win boot this shows in "PCI device listing"

A:Can't assign dedicated IRQ to sound card - to much on same IRQ

The sound is normally on a shared IRQ, assigned by the OS. If you uninstall the sound in the Device Manager then restart the PC when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound and many times put it on a different shared IRQ. Audio is considered a "low priority" device and the reason it's normally on a shared IRQ. My sound card, a PCI HT Omega Striker 7.1 is on IRQ 17 with several other devices.

I have a recording studio setup with Sonar X1 but I don't use my internal sound card for recording or playback in Sonar. I use a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 which is firewire connected.

My question is the following: Can you, on just one audio card, assign the sound from two different applications to two different audio ports e.g. movie sound goes through one port to the TV while the sound from a game or music goes through another to a head-set. I mean, it is possible to divide different sounds in a movie to the different chanels in a 5.1 sound system so wouldn´t it be possible to do the same with applications?

Is there any programs that would allow this or do you need a second video card?

Thanks in advance!

A:Can you assign sound from different aplications to different audio ports?

mmmmmmmm NO BUT YOU CAN have 1 device as the windows sound device such as my audigy soundcard and I have my digidesign MBOX in high end sound programs that use ASIO drivers so normally windows don't even see its there really till I'm in sonar or fruity loops......

NOW with that said if I could find a media player that allowed me to use those ASIO drivers as the output guess I COULD do just what you suggested.
I have honestly WANTED this ability before such as havin people in the vocal booth listening to a mix of a song so they can write lyrics and me being able to have a seperate audio feed so I could be composing music in fruity loops......... I am sure there is a way somehow

I have two ATI video cards (AGP(9000 Radeon)&PCI(9200 Radeon))set up with 3 flat panels. I noticed that even though I have two cards, the CPU can only render one power hungry application at a time.

For example, I would like to run an instance of Media Player Classic on one monitor while I run a full screen game application on the main display. However, most games tend to turn off the secondary monitors or in some cases, display the screens but disable any video running in MPC [sound still functions].

I am guessing this is a limitation set by having only one CPU but is there a way to have the two video cards work separately to display both the game application and the video? Is there also a way to disable any full screen application from turning off the secondary screens?

Our ISP recently updated their hard ware to work with the Sprint network. Note: our ISP is not Sprint, but the local phone company.

Our Hardware:
Internet: DSL 10.0 (highest speed available)
Modem: Comtrend (ISP provides)
Router: Belkin N
Computer: 10 yr old Dell running XP - service pac3 - wired connection
Kindle Fire (first edition, no HD, etc) - wireless connection
Xbox 360 - wireless connection

Xbox - went from constantly bumped from Xbox Live game by losing internet connection to not being able to enter a game at all
Kindle - went from occasional "network error' message during online tasks to having to restart download (multiple times) or refresh page for most any or all online tasks
Computer - have to click refresh to get most any page to load after the home page

What we've tried so far:
I have recently cleared the cache on both the computer and Kindle. XBox's new security measures have been met.

My questions:
Do any or all of these issues seem to be related?
Is there a piece of equipment or something we may be missing to make all of these things work? I am a networking novice.
Who should I call to get these issues corrected, my ISP or a tech service? Note: if I start with the ISP and they do not find an issue I have to pay for the call.

A:Multiple issues over multiple devices

First. You should try to NOT use a wireless connection for any type of gaming: PC, Mac, Console, etc. If you can hard wire the xbox you'll be waaay better off than using wireless.

Now... Yes, the issues could be related - there maybe an issue with the Belkin N router. I'd try to first reset the Belkin router to default settings, check on manufacturer website for instructions how, most routers you can press a "reset" button w/ a paperclip or ball point pen. Reconfigure the Belkin router, recreate the wireless network and see how everything works. If you are still having issues, humor me and connect the Dell directly to the DSL modem, bypassing Belkin router. See if you still have connection issues, if you do then it could be the DSL modem that is the problem and call your ISP to replace. If you don't have same issues then it's most likely an issue with the Belkin router. Replace it. Don't buy the dirt cheapest router at the store, but you most likely don't need the most expensive one either. Find a good middle ground router, ask sales associate to assist you accordingly.

Post back, Hope this helps!!

What you're asking for is a router/layer 3 switch which can do policy based routing (PBR).

Add a shortcut for each of your applications to your STARTUP folder.

Right click the STARTUP entry and select OPEN or OPEN ALL USERS

Drag and Drop a COPY of each application shortcut into the STARTUP folder.

If you want them to start minimized, right click each shortcut copy , select properties and modify to suit your tastes.

Now if i want to plug my earphones to the left side of the computer where the audio jack socket is located the sound does not transfer to my earphones except i will change the default sound device from speakers to headphones.
How can i set it to automatically when i plugin my headphones/earphones/external speaker automatically transfer the sound to this device without changing the settings?

A:Sound does not transfer to the External Sound devices Automatically

The first thing that needs to be done is get the correct sound driver from Toshiba. If it came with Windows 8.1, the 8.1 driver is valid for Win 10. If it came with Windows 7, install the Win 7 driver in a Win 7 compatibility mode (what I did on my Toshiba Satellite) to get it working.

The "High Definition Audio" driver is a generic, basic function, Windows installed sound driver.

Hello, all! Was wondering if I could get some help with my laptop which seems to have contracted something nasty. I ran my usual anti-virus regime after being infected with something (safe mode followed by rKill, then MalwareBytes then TDSSkiller) but even after reboot there seem to be errors in running some applications like taskmanager and tasklist (which close instantly) and occasionally malwarebytes (which had to be renamed or run only in safe mode). However nothing gets picked up by the usual scans, even rKill will not close any processes when it does manage to run thought these applications still have problems starting!

On occasion there will be a DEP alert on a file called sv spool but I've no idea what it is or where to find it.

Hi all-
I first encountered this problem while working on my screenplay in Final Draft, a screenplay program: "Final Draft has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience."
After it happened several times, I figured the file was corrupted, so I converted it to a word document. Then I got the same error message, saying that "Office 97 etc. etc".
Today the computer shut down on me while using the Internet and Adobe Acrobat. Same error message, different applications. I'm losing it! I have so much work to do, and everything keeps shutting down on me.

Out of desperation I tried doing a System Restore to about a month ago, but I don't know yet how that's working.

Any of you kind folk know whats going on, and how to help?

Many thanks,

A:Same Error Message In Multiple Applications

How long has this problem been happening?

Right click your "My Computer" icon on your desktop, select "properties"
Click on the "Advanced " tab
Select "Settings"
In the box that opens. "Startup and Recovery" remove the check mark to the left of "Automatically Restart"

The next time your computer does a restart it will show you a BSOD with an error code and other information which will help in diagnosing the cause.

Please post that information so we can help further.

Running Vista Home Ed 64 bit, on brand new computer

Some programs close when I try to open them, and I get a message from the system tray saying DEP has closed the program. After some extensive research, I've tried different methods for excluding the programs from DEP monitoring, as well as disabling DEP altogether, and all have failed. I get a message saying that Adobe cannot be on the exclusion list for DEP, and with the command prompt method, it says the operation is completed successfully, but I still get the same message and can't open Adobe.

I am fed up with Vista entirely and I want to install XP alongside it. I've created a new partition already and I have an xp setup disk, but it does not run when I pop it in and restart. I can't find any way to run the xp setup.

My main concern is with DEP, but if anyone can help me install xp and setup a multi-OS setup, I would be just as grateful. I've also read about complications with drivers needed to be installed, I need to know what and where to download those, and also I've read about issues with booting back into vista if I can manage to get xp installed.

Related thread:

A:DEP closing applications... Multiple Issues

I won't mark the thread as solved because I still have the DEP issue with Vista and although I found a way around it, it is still an issue that should be solved for those who don't want to use the solution I've found.

I was able to get XP booted up along side Vista in a dual boot configuration. To do this, obtain a windows XP startup disk, (or make one) create a seperate partition and format it to the size of your choice, at least 10 GB, but I would recommend more. With that done, insert the XP disk and restart, press any key to boot from disk, and install xp on the partition you created. Be sure to choose the right drive path. After the install, you will boot into xp and need to reinstall the vista bootloader with Easy BCD. Download and install Easy BCD for free here:

Next, follow the remainder of the instructions in Easy BCD I found here:

You should now be able to boot into the OS of your choice and set a default OS to boot into automatically after a time interval of your choice. Hope this helps someone.

I have an issue at work where a couple of computers running Windows XP, Visual Studio, SQL Server 2000 SP4 and a couple of other apps will start having issues after running for a bit. What happens is that, usually when a user has many applications open, the system does not operate smoothly. Open apps will fail to load menus, have long delays when trying to access some services, etc. At one point, Outlook 2003 reported an error along the lines of unable to access memory or virtual memory (I can't remember the error exactly, as I did not see it first hand).

I have looked in task manager when a user is experiencing this issue, and it shows plenty of available memory (these systems have 2 GB total RAM), so I'm not sure where to look for this.

Does anybody have any idea of what could be causing this or of some performance counter I could monitor?

I set up my two monitors to run as "Dual View" (Configured independently from each other) so they both act as an extended desktop. What I have right now is my main setup on my left monitor, and I can move my mouse over to my right monitor for other windows I have open there.

When I play a video game (eg. Counter-Strike) the game will be run on the left monitor, because it's the main monitor. Is there anyway to have the game run on the right monitor, so that my desktop is available on my left?

Again, the goal is to be able to run games such as Counter-Strike on the right monitor, and have my desktop on my other monitor at the same time. Thanks for any help thats given.

A:Running applications on multiple displays

Apparently this little program does exactly that, among other things

Just as a word of advice, having 2 monitor's doesn't mean you have 2 computers, so if you're running the CPU intensive application on the 2nd monitor, things you do on the 1st one will lag. Also, if you switch monitor's while playing a game, it's the same as the game window losing focus so it's likely to pause the game or minimize itself.

Plus most games will change your screen resolutions so it could stuff things up a bit.

Hope this helps

Make sure your dump logging is enabled.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Check Write an even to the system log, and Automatically restart.
In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (256k).

Hi Everyone,

I'm new, so please don't flame me if I'm not posting this correctly

My fiance recently started a new job in a secretarial position and after her first day, I've decided her office REALLY needs to upgrade the way they do things.

First off, it's a personnel company. So they will advertise job positions and then receive applications for those jobs.

Here is the current workflow:
- email applications come in
- sec. (secretary) then opens cover letter (which is usually a .doc or .pdf)
- copies in the email body text (which is actually an auto generated one created by etc) into the new doc + page break
- opens the persons CV and copies that into the cover letter doc.
-- So basically you end up with a document that has the original email on the first page, then the applicants cover letter, followed by their CV.
- this doc is then printed
- sec. writes the date on the front page, the consultant who is looking after those applications & also L1 or L2 (see below).

Depending on if the application is a reply to an advertised job, then
Letter1 option:
- sec. replies to the email (to the applicant),
- opens the L1 template email they have saved,
- copies this template into the reply email
- edits the applicants name, the job description and the consultants name
- sends email.

OR if the application is just a general application asking for whatever work is going:
Letter2 option:
- sec. replies to the email (to the applicant),... Read more

A:Macro / Automation possible across multiple applications?

If they have PDF software installed for Printing to PDF ( there are free versions like CutePDF)

Not sure if all email programs will do it, but Outlook...when you open an email and go File > PDF printer ( works for normal paper print also) options tab and check off linked documents...and will print the email first and then the attachments to a single PDF file...problem might be the order in which they are attached?
you could also look a using Adobe PDf maker software where you might be able drag files from the email

just giving you idea's, this doesn't sound like a perfect solution to what you need, but it may spark another method to streamline the process.

I have a laptop with XP and Vista on it, but the majority of my applications are installed on Vista.

Is there any way of sharing applications between the two versions of windows? (saves me installing them on both).

A:Sharing applications between multiple windows OSs

If you partition your hard drive (I recommend an extra two partitions) one for installed software, and one for data, then you may find that if you install a particular application on the application drive, it will record most of the important status details on your operating system drive, certainly in the registry, and often in odd places under individual users.

Install applications into the same directory on the application drive from both OS's may work (a 'repair' installation would be enough). But quite honestly, all you save is the disk space of the application, there is no effective way of avoiding install on both OS that I know of, short of copying the installed details into each registry.

There is no guarantee that installs in different operating systems actually use the same registry parameters, or even install the same files under XP and Vista.

I would say .... impracticable - forget it.

More than that, in the case of Vista in particular, installing any microsoft stuff twice is almost certainly violating the EULA and Vista, the word is, can cut up very rough indeed in cases like this. It can for instance de-validate your software, even (reputedly) your OS

I want to use the audio simultaneously from my ati 4550 HDMI, Sony blue-tooth speaker via usb BT dongle, 3.5mm jacks on my mobo, and also from a spdif and digital coax linked to the mobo via on board header to expansion bracket with ports.

I know this all may sound like overkill, however I don't have the funds for high end switches / replicators, etc. So manually changing them has been a hassle.

I have done some reading and I know se7en doesn't let you. I did this with xp x64.

Anyone know of a "work-around" or hack to enable all devices at once?

I use w10 on 3 devices, a mid range gaming PC, linx7 tablet, and lumia640. On the whole the experience is pretty good, syncing works well, reminders, alarms, contacts etc. This was one of the reasons I opted for android early, using chrome on a PC gave a similar, yet skimmed down, one OS feel.
I've not had one BSOD since updating the 'rig', my mobile works great, and the tablet is amazing for ?49! I was talking to my father in law who uses all 3 main OSs every day, and we both agree that windows just feels more 'grown up' than iOS or android. He wants a win10 phone next to replace his android (he'll have to keep the company iPhone4).
So like I said, does anyone else have a similar experience?

its either faulty headphones or your sound card that is playing up.

the issue is usually caused by the grind not earthing out. hence the low scratching buzzing noise.

PC-Cillin 2002 said that it detected a mail virus or something like that but there was no name or information on that virus with the window that popped up. Some other applications that opened up were: NetDDEAgent, AgentReturnClass, AgentCharacterProxyReturn, DDE Server Window Class, and GDI + Window. Also some files seemed to have been opened with Microsoft Word but some had files name like the applications above.

Started about a month and a half ago, when my power supply died while the computer was on.

First, my computer specs:
Pentium 4 2.66 GhZ
768 mb RAM
Samsung 80gb hard drive
ATI x1300 video card
Edit: OS is Windows XP Pro
I believe it was 420w, and now I have a 350w supply. After that, I noticed that the computer was considerably slower. About 2 weeks ago, it started to freeze everytime I would load a big application (World of Warcraft, Counter-strike, games in general, Vegas editing, etc) or multiple applications at once (many firefox tabs open, AIM,etc.) The programs started freezing more and more frequently, up until today where I decided to reformat my computer. My computer now runs much smoother, but it will still freeze when loading big applications. I'm guessing the slow-down was due to some registry errors of sort, but whats the deal with the freezing? It's very frustrating.

A:Computer freezes whenever loading big or multiple applications..

Another thing to note :

Whenever it freezes, the computer seems to revert to 5 minutes or so before the freeze. For example, if I delete a file, and clean the recycling bin. When I reboot the comp after it froze the file might be back in the recycling bin.

Sorry but no DMP files upload try this method
If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

First off I'm not sure where this message should be posted so please forgive me if I place it in the wrong forum.

I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me with what seems to be rather curious problem.

Maybe rather foolishly, I found and enabled a Take Ownership item on the Windows Explorer context menu. I then took ownership of various directories it was probably better to leave alone. Now, and for some time, I've had a multiplicity (and I'm talking 11 and upwards) of iterations of the Applications Data directory located in the following directory structures:

ProgramData\ directory
Documents and Settings\All Users\ directory
Documents and Settings\Username\AppData\Local\ directory
Documents and Settings\Local Settings\ directory
Users\All Users\ directory
Users\Username\AppData\Local\ directory
Users\Username\Local Settings\ directory

A total of seven different directory structures on my Win7 drive - and each iteration appears to contain exactly the same data as the first Application Data directory in the structure, but its ONLY the Application Data directory which is affected.

I can't say this was a directory I took ownership of - I can't remember - but I guess I must have since I can access the files and folders within the top level directory. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this - apart from re-installing Win7 that is?

I should add that I've checked this out using the search program Locate by searching on "Application Data". Also, ... Read more

A:Multiple Copies of Applications Data Directory

"Documents and Settings" is not a real folder. It is a junction to allow older programs to interface with the folder structure of Windows 7. You are not really seeing duplicates of all those folders.
I would be careful with changing the security settings (ownership, etc.) of system files and folders.

I ran the sys utility (results below). I have two printers, a Canon and an Epson. When I try to print to either one using most utilities, the software freezes for about five minutes, then works. This happens even when I try to get to a new window to adjust printing specs. It freezes only in that software program (all others continue to work) It always prints in the end, but can take a half hour to print a document. This is happening on both printers with a number of programs, particularly Photoshop Elements and the Windows Explorer window, but also Picasa -- only Open Office seems to work smoothly.

It's a new problem. I've had the computer for years. The Canon (Pixma MG5200) is about six months old and the Epson (Stylus Photo 1400) is new.

The until now decent list of apps that are crashing is slowly growing up so I wanted to sniff the culprit and remove it.
In all previous cases the problem was non obstructive but today I wanted to update Daemon Tools which caused an unrecoverable error in the uninstaller therefore I can't update which I already consider limiting.
All crashing apps invoke the same dialog Program XYZ stopped to work (lookup online solution/Terminate program/Debug program). So I suppose there's some latent problem with my OS and all the situations have the same common divisor. Now I would need some clues how to track it. Any helpful suggestions please.

A:Tracking down the culprit of multiple applications crashes

I don't like Deamon tools, have seen too many troubles with, if I get a computer with it installed I would not touch it if owner does not consent to remove it. I use and recommend Alcohol 52% that is free and does not make so many problems. Can also mount multiple images and has automount too. Windows8 can mount ISO images too

A small amount of information first: I have four identical monitors arranged in a square, two using a Nvidia GeForce 6200 Turbocache and the others a Nvidia GeForce 7300 SE / 7200 GS, both of which have updated drivers. I'm also using DisplayFusion for the multiple monitor setup.

The problem is that the applications decide to move to the bottom two monitors a few times a day; it is a work computer, and applications are kept open in a certain layout all day. At first I assumed it was when the display was turned back on (the Windows 7 automatically display turnoff has since been turned off), but now it will move in the middle of normal use. Sometimes one of the programs will even move off all four monitors, somewhere off to the right.

I'm new to multiple monitor setups, so it's very possible it's something obvious I'm missing, but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

A:Multiple Monitor Problem - Moving Applications

Just in case this happens to anyone else: it was the Lenovo Power Manager application that came with the Lenovo machine. After 15 minutes of non-use it was resetting the graphics (or something), which caused Windows to move the applications / icons.

Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit. Home network. Already have 3 printer devices. One printer is All-in-One (HP). Want to keep that device installed and be able to use all functions. Want to add a desk top scanner for speed and versatility. The All-in-One is network cabled and also USB to my desktop computer. The desktop scanner is not network; would be USB to my desktop computer. I seem to recall reading somewhere (not sure of this - maybe HP literature to discourage buying other scanners) that you can't have more than one scanner. Doesn't seem logical. Is more than one scanner (using only one at any one time) OK?

A:Are Multiple Scanner Devices OK?

As far as I know you have as many usb devices hooked up to one computer. There is a theoretical limit of 124, but it really is determined on how many usb ports you have as to how many usb devices you can hook up. Each device has it's own driver/software package, so I don't see any real reason you couldn't. I know for a fact you can have a printer (all in one) and scanner hooked up at the same time. My dad did using XP, Lexmark all in one printer and an HP scanner.

Is it possible to have them all up and running simultaneously or does it have to be one device at a time?

A:Single IP, multiple devices

If it's a standard SOHO router, and not a switch or a modem, you can have up to 253 devices attached. (There are 256 addresses available, but you can't use the first or last address, and one is reserved for the gateway--the router itself.) Note that the 253 addresses includes wireless devices.

Hi, I recently purchased a HP Pavilion dv6974 Laptop, it came installed with Vista 64-bit. It works fine and all, just one thing I want to figure out.

The laptop has built-in speakers, a built-in mic, 2 headphone jacks and 1 microphone jack. I plugged my headset into one of the headphone jacks, my headset microphone into the microphone jack, and my external speakers into the second headphone jack.

What I wish to do is to set it up in a way that I can play music through my speakers, and Ventrilo through my headset.

The way I did this before on my desktop was that there was this option in the Realtek Audio Manager called "enable playback multi-stream" that separated the two audio jacks on the computer (one in the back, and one in the front). Then I was able to choose a different audio driver for Ventrilo, and use the default one for music. This was on XP, and I only had one sound card btw.

And now for Vista, I've tried looking through the Audio Device Manager and the Realtek Audio Manager but couldn't find anything that would help much, except in the Realtek Audio Manager there's this "tie up all input jacks something something, etc" that sounded like it was what I was looking for, but all it did was mess up my microphone.

To add more to this confusion, there is actually another audio device in the Audio Device Manager, but it's the Digital Audio Receiver, and I don't really know what that does.

I've asked about this problem elsewhere, and some peopl... Read more

So here's the setup:

Windows Home Premium X64, 8GB Ram, I5-3570K CPU

Recently built. I understand there's been an issue with Windows 7 using different devices for audio outputs. I was told by MS IT to use Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) for 'combining' my programs/devices into the same output.

My computer is mostly built for Audio recording (Audacity, Adobe Audition), and virtual instrumentation (Reason 5, FL Studio, Abelton, etc...)

My issue is that while some of these programs work well with VAC, key important ones such as Reason 5 do not. With my particular soundcard and driver, there is a degree of latency between the time I press a note on the keyboard to when I can actually hear it.

FL Studio automatically bundles ASIO4ALL - an awesome '0 latency' driver pack that comes with a easy to use control menu. ASIO4ALL is automatically selected as the audio card driver.

However I am unable to use VAC whilst keeping the latency low at the same time.

I need some help if you please!

A:Multiple Devices - VAC not working for needs.

I have a Sonar X2 (Producer) studio. Something like your questions would be better answered on a board such as where recording and DAW equipment is the topic of the forum.

I don't like ASIO4ALL, it can cause problems. I've had problems with trying to use it when I had a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. I've seen other posts (on other forums) about ASIO4ALL problems.

I have a Roland Octa-Capture and an MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R and I only use the drivers supplied by Roland and MAudio.

hi, i'm relatively new here, so i'm not really sure how to do this but alot of my games are having problems i.e. ? has cause in invalid page fault in unknown. I am led to believe it is a soundcard problem, i use an onboard sound card with the VIA VT1612A 2-channel audio Codec and i look in multimedia properties under audio devices, i had two different ones, Audio for via Ac'97 Enhanced Audio Controller(WDM), and Audio for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM), i was told by a friend to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall to fix this, i did, now on top of those two devices i have a second Audio for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM). I also have three MIDI for WDM-based Device. ANd Mixer for VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM), along with two Mixer for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM),this may be normal, but like i said i'm relatively new at this and it doesn't really look normal, so can someone please help me? Thank You

A:need help, multiple audio devices

Look at the back of your computer. Do you have onboard sound AND a seperate PCI sound card? If so then you need to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS setup and use only the PCI sound card.

Now go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall ALL VIA AC97, AC97, Vinyl audio drivers and anything else that looks like it goes to sound drivers.

Then go to Device Manager and uninstall/remove all remaining VIA/Vinyl/AC97 devices listed under the Multimedia heading. Reboot only after all are removed.

Then download the latest VIA Vinyl drivers. When you first run the new driver setup program it will look to see if there are still drivers installed, if it finds any then it give you the option to uninstall them. Do that and reboot.

Then run the VIA installation again and install the drivers, and reboot.

At any point Windows may redetect the sound card and want to reinstall the drivers - let it. Do NOT click Cancel on the Found New Hardware Wizard. If all goes well prior to install the latest driver the sound card should be detected as a PCI Multimedia Device and that means all the drivers will have been removed.

Here's the latest drivers:
They are in a ZIP file, once extracted you need to run the SETUP.EXE file to install the drivers.

Ok, this isn't really pc related, but I'm sure it's an issue many of you face every day. I have a PDA/GPS, cell, bluetooth headset and blackberry. I use each every day, which means every night I have to plug all four devices in to charge. Does anyone know of some kind of charging station that would house all four power adapters neatly and allow me to charge all four devices from one outlet? Is there some kind of travel charger that would let me plug all four devices in to charge at once? Such a hassle taking all four adapters every time I travel.

A:Email Across Multiple Devices

The closest thing would be to set them all up as IMAP instead of POP accounts. That way you get all the same email, the same deletions and moves, and the same emails marked as read across all devices. It doesn't quite prevent you from seeing the email more than once unless you move that email to another folder or delete it in which case the same thing will happen on the rest of the devices.

You would have to check with your email service to see if they support IMAP and to get the correct settings. Or post your email provider here.

Also, I changed the title of your thread from your name to something more meaningful.

I have a number of music/video applications installed on my machine and am wondering whether I should remove some of them. Some were already installed on my HP laptop when I bought it (e.g. Quick Play etc), and some I have downloaded (e.g. Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quicktime etc). Is it better for me to remove some of these apps to gain space? Let me know if you want me to list all application that I am querying.

Thanks, Lynne

A:Solved: Multiple music/video applications installed

Remove under the following circumstances:
You don't use them.
They cause conflicts.
They slow your system down.
You don't have enough room for everything.

Unless you have some of the big daddy video and audio editing programs installed they probably aren't taking up that much room (tens of mb vs. gigs for the Pinnacle and Adobe suites) so if they aren't causing a problem and you use them occasionally its fine to just leave them right where they are.

Any help on this would be much appreciated, as whatever it is seems to be getting worse and ironically it has taken me ages to post this message as Internet Explorer keeps crashing as well!

About a week ago without any new software installations, updates or anything unusual changing, my laptop has just starting experiencing APPCRASH errors on an increasingly frequent basis. When typing in Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer, or using Roxio Photosuite or Xara Web Designer (so its not just one product family leading me to think its an OS issue) seemingly randomly the application will just crash producing a report like the following:

On more than one occassion, the faulting module has been listed as 'StackHash' rather than as 'unknown', but more often than not its unknown.

After some surfing, I read that it might be to do with DEP so I have disabled it for the applications that are crashing but to no effect.

Right here's my problem this has happened over a few days and I've lost count of the things I've tried but it should be in order of whats happened.

For the last few days my computer has periodically stopped opening new internet browser (chrome) tabs and after this starts happening it also won't open any applications either until it is restarted.

If I try to open the browser again or any application I can see in the task manager the RAM use creeping up slowly until it opens but then whatever opened crashes or stops responding.

It is also very slow to shut down or restart when this happens.

After trying many different things I have managed to install Firefox and delete Chrome and now the internet is stable and no longer crashing/not responding but it seems other problems have arisen.

The biggest problem I can find at the moment is whenever I click on a application it will take a very long time to load 5mins plus the same goes for anything like the task manager or the volume controls, network and sharing center est.

It is also still slow at shutting down and takes about 3-4 mins to boot up fully if that is helpful info.

The procedure entry point ResolveDelayLoadedAPI could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

Can anybody shed some light on fixing this? I don't really want to flash my system, as I don't have the time to reinstall everything. I've looked on Google, tried uninstalling, tried Hijack This (Didn't get far with that one), ComboFix, AVG Free, and currently I'm scanning with AdAware Free. Still nothing. I've also made sure the registry was clean with CCleaner.

Note, some applications happen mutiple times, I'm not sure why, but my guess would be that when it crashes it tries again. Attached is a picture of several of the errors.

Hi, I'm new and here this is my first post.
I'm going through this nightmare for several months, any help would be more then highly appreciated.
A huge list of applications are keeping on crashing again and again, between them are: Windows Media Player - VLC - COM Surrogate - Windows Live Photo Gallery - VirtualBox - Microsoft Silverlight - Windows Explorer - XPS Viewer - Windows Live Mail - doPDF8 - PerformanceTest - HP SimplePass - TeamViewer - Windows media center - And many many more.
When looking in windows "Action center" at the "Reliability monitor" most of them have listed at the "Fault Module Name" field something "StackHash_" followed with four numbers or digits. for example "StackHash_7001" or "StackHash_4ac5". The few other crashed applications is the faulting module "ntdll.dll".
Iv'e searched all around for solutions on this miserable problem, the only so-called solution for this i found some answers to that it might have to do with DEP, and they advised to disable the DEP for these crashing applications, But this isn't a solution at all since my system is a 64-bit and so are most applications and "You can not set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables".

I don't remember exactly what it was, but it was definitely after downloading some dodgy program.

Right now alot of applications won't open, many of them are online games and chatting programs.

When I try to open an application the mouse was stuck on the mouse+hourglass cursor, so I looked in Process of the Task Manager. There would always be 4-5 of the programs I tried to

open, the application moves up and down constantly. It also creates extra copies then deletes them. I cannot End Process because they're moving too fast, by the time i moved to

the End button the application has deselected, which makes me think that they all are disappearing and reappearing instead of simply moving up and down.

In the mean time the program wouldn't open with the CPU usage at 95-100% and the mouse+hourglass cursor.

I have scanned with alot of antivirus and antispyware programs but they all seem to be useless. Everything is only fixed if I restart the computer, when I try to open any programs again all of this would happen all over.

Sorry for all the chinese letters, this is my parent's PC. I do not have any Windows CD or Boot disks.

I hope you can figure out the words.

Hello guys! I've been having this problem for a while now, and I'm hoping one of you knows a solution.

I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 (64 bit) on my laptop, and since then multiple games can't be run, giving the following error:
"The application has failed to start (0xc000007b)"
I've been searching for a solution online, and have tried everything I found. I reinstalled DirectX, .NET, graphic card drivers, the game itself (currently having issues with NBA 2K15), ran sfc /scannow, put files into System32 and SYSWOW64 manually, reinstalled my Visual C++ redistributables (both x86 and x64), and NOTHING works.
I only didn't do Windows reinstall. But, a month ago I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10, keeping all the files and settings, and then all my games ran perfectly. It was also 64-bit. And now with clean install, they don't work.

So, if anyone knows of something I haven't tried, I would appreciate it very much. I really want to avoid doing another Windows reinstallation, or going back to Windows 7, because I really like Windows 10, it runs smooth and fast, and I say again, I had no problems with 10 back when I did an upgrade instead of clean install.

Thanks in advance!

So my household needs to upgrade internet. Our internet speeds are slow (3mbps) and my mom works at home with various computer programs as she processes documents and claims. She cannot deal with the lag in her internet speed caused by my brother playing his new xbox one (which I've heard takes up the internet like no other) and me browsing the net all at once.

I'm asking because I don't know about internet speeds, our current plan in our area is the best one (I know 3mbps is not alot) but apparently that is the highest service AT&T U-verse provides.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows what would be a good speed for internet considering all of this, it know this isn't exactly a computer problem but I wouldn't know where else to ask.

Thank you for your help!

No problem, this is the right section to ask in.

Now I'm a bit confused as to whether your potential Internet speed would be 3Mbps or 5Mbps (conflicting information in title and post). Either way, you're right that that isn't very much bandwidth. Your mom should be able to do her computer work assuming the file transfers she performs involve smaller Word, PDF, and text documents. The primary factors here will be what you do while web browsing, and the Xbox One connection.

You likely won't be able to play Xbox and stream video well simultaneously - that isn't even taking into account possible file transfers of your mom's.

I'm not sure where you live, but most developed areas in the United States have Internet speeds much higher than this. I recommend doing some research online to find out if this truly is your only option. With modern Internet content, I would say ~10Mbps is a good minimum recommendation for a pleasant browsing experience.

If you cannot find/get an Internet connection with increased bandwidth, then you all may need to dedicate times for certain activities on the Internet.

I've read through a could of threads but have yet to find any answers for my problem. Basically my internet runs fine when a device is directly connected to my modem. However, when running through a router I get 2-10 second disconnects at random intervals on all devices hooked up to the router, be it wired or wireless. I've already tired three different router, all different brands, among other various things like updating/switch firmware and changing the router over to a new wall socket with no luck. I had my service provider come out and switch the modem, but that didn't help any. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Internet cutting out on multiple devices.

what cable is between the router and modem - has this been changed ?
you mention "wall socket"
As you have made a lot of changes to the modem and to the router(s) - i can only think of cable

Before making each connection , do a powercycle - see how below

connect with a small cable between the modem and PC - and that works fine
then with a 2nd cable - do the same
now you have two cables that you know work on the modem
Also while in that configuration post an ipconfig /all - see how below

then using the same cables - connect from the modem to the router
and using the known cable connect the PC to the router
Now test again and see if this time it works
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

Also, when I change them, it doesn't seem to take effect till I restart that application, mp3 player, movie player or whatever.

I seem to have similar issues with mic vs line-in. and switching between them doesn't always seem to work if in use and Mute options also seem to not kick in.

Hi there.
I am using my phones 3G to type this and it's a real nuisance since I cannot research information for essays and other important aspects that I need when studying for my A levels.

Anyway, it started last night around 11pm, everything died and I thought it was because of the bad weather.
I woke up to sunshine however the internet was still not working.

The router is a SuperHub 2 and it had no problems up till now, the lights for 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz are flashing and so are the other lights on the router - this the router is working.

The problem is the connectivity, I use my laptop, iPhone and computer all together when studying and playing games. All of which has the same problem. All have the 5 bars connectivity however they all say "no internet access" and no response from the DNS servers.

What is the problem then?

What I've done:
- I have release and renewed the IPs
- reset router numerous times
- turned on: off router numerous times
- fiddled with wires to make sure they're plugged in.
- turned on and off computers and laptops.
- set IvP4 to automatic.
- waited hours.
- went onto the Virgin Media router page via 192.168.0.X. Then I started the router up in factory status, starting I up a few times.

How do I fix this nuisance? I need the internet now, for work purposes.
Please help, since it's affecting me and my family members and all of our devices.

A:No internet access on multiple devices

Does the Virgin Media router page give you a status of the WAN?

We had a bad storm last week and it took a few days after power was restored for Comcast to repair their lines.

I was able to get to my router, but the WAN address was - can't get there from here!

If you have a WAN address, turn everything off (no power) then
power up your cable modem, wait a few minutes for it to cycle through what it cycles through
power up your router (if seperate) wait for it to cycle through what it cycles through
finally power up your machine and check the network status on the Virgin Media router

If you don't have a WAN address, report the outage to your provider. They probably already know about your area, but a call never hurts.

I have a dell dimension 2400 that I think is going kaput. I've had to format one drive twice and an alternate drive once (merely to test that the first hard drive wasn't the issue.) My primary problem and reason for my first reinstall was an OS hanging issue probably due to some hardware conflict somewhere - various solutions such as safe mode, repairing install and fixboot would not work (scared to use fixmbr without first checking all my options.)

Three soft formats later and both of my hard drive installs are ticking my ethernet adapter, among other devices, with a question mark. As an example, I've used the OEM disks provided for the 3com 4011 integrated ethernet controller, selected the appropriate driver and ended up with a code 10 on it. I boot to safe made and check all the hidden devices for obvious conflicts but no such luck, there are no other NICs installed on my PC and the rest cannot be removed ("you need this device to boot" message on uninstall attempt")

Does anyone know where I can find out which resources my device wants to use?
quick edit: it is XP
could it be a ghost device driver sucking up resources from a previous install?

question the third: HAAALP! according to the utility partition manager my system is in full working order (ha.)

Does anyone know if Windows 8 will intergrate multiple output devices to play at the same time? Windows 7 doesn't do it... which is stupid. Pirates will always find a way to bypass this, but I'm stuck without this important feature!!! This is absolutely CRUCIAL for HTPC (home theatre PC) people and/or DJ's or Music producers / Artists. I also use audio levelers like SRS audio essentials which is considered another audio playback device. This is truly ridiculous that I paid all of this money for Windows 7 and I can't play to 2 sets of speakers at the same time. And if I want to switch to headphones for a second for any particular reason, i have to go through a process... and make it the default device and when I want to go back to watching tv I have to go through the process again...... SO ANNOYING..... it's my computer, I should be able to play to ALLLLLLLL of my devices. That's why I buy all these devices so I can use them all simultaneously. This is so basic. Can you please update Windows 7 with multiple playback on all devices. I don't copyright infringe or rip dvd's to external sources, but even if I was a shady individual, which I'm NOT, I don't need multiple playback device to do this. You're only hurting ME, the consumer that pays for things I use. It's MADDENING. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR PLAYBACK DEVICES TO INCLUDE SIMULTANEOUS OUTPUT PLAYBACK TO ALL DEVICES.... OR AT LEAST SEVERAL... New box is together. Windows 8.1 64-bit.

When I look at my drives in file explorer, a couple drives have multiple drive letters...

For example, my data backup drive, which is only one partition, shows up as drive "Int data backup (T(T(T" - unfortunately, it keeps changing the colon and closing parentheses to that goofy smiley face.

Same for a couple others... I've never seen this before in Windows 7, so what is this? Do I need to do something about it?

Also, in "Devices and Printers" from the control panel, I have FOUR occurrences of "DIRECTV2PC Media Server" and FOUR occurrences of "DIRECTV Mediashare Renderer"

Do they have anything to do with the multiple drive letters? What the heck are they for? And can I delete them?

A:Multiple drive letters and odd devices

It appears your PC is connected to a media Share network

Right now I have my computer hooked up to two sets of I/O devices (mouse, keyboard, monitor) and I was wondering if you can separate them so that for example I can surf the web on one set and have a friend play a game on the other. Currently they show and control the same things.

Both monitors are on the same graphics card, one mouse/keyboard is USB the other PS/2

Thanks for any help.

A:Using multiple input devices on one Computer

Nope, there is only one console manager. Since you already have the monitor and keyboard, why not find a cheap machine and just have two?

So on my home network, we have your normal cable modem, router, and gigabit switch setup. The router is a high speed linksys model (gigabit), and the gigabit switch is an 8 port. The ethernet goes all through the house, but I've recently built a media room. In this room I have a Zensonic High-def network dvd player for streaming media, a gaming/media pc, an xbox 360, ps3, modded xbox 1 for more media streaming and a wii. The wii isn't really relevant to the problem because it is wifi, but I'm proud of my media room.

The problem was that I needed to network all of these, and when the house was built, we only ran one ethernet port into the room. No big deal I thought, because as long as I'm just streaming media, a 10/100 switch would be sufficient. So I pulled out an old hub (not a switch). All of these devices were hooked up and it worked great. Then one day, it all just stopped. The hub was old, so I ran out and got a netgear fs605 switch on sale for 5 bucks at office depot. This still hasn't fixed the problem, but has helped me diagnose it. When I plug in the uplink, I get a blinking response. When I plug in the next device, it works and is recognized. However, every device after that causes the switch to stop working and just start blinking. No activity, it looks like an error code of some kind. Have I put too much on this little switch? It was working just fine for months on just a hub. Any thoughts?

A:Network switch cannot allow multiple devices!
