I have bought Inspiron I5558 signature edition 5 months back.My speakers are not working after it reaches 50 percent of volume till then they will work fine. I uninstalled and installed new audio drivers but problem is not solved. Please help....

A:Speakers doesn't work after certain volume

Hi kash2528,
I would suggest you to update BIOS and reinstall the audio driver on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the audio card.

In the search box, Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Sound, video and game controllers listed and expand it.
You should find Realtek High definition audio or audio controller please right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After uninstallation please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and audio driver from audio section onto the system and install it.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hello, I have an X1 Yoga and just noticed that the volume rocker (the physical buttons on the right side of the computer) don't seem to work when my lid is closed.  When the lid is open, the rocker works great.  But not otherwise. I have tried playing music from both Spotify and Youtube.  Both sources of audio don't work.  (Not sure if that's relevant, but just thought I'd mention it.) If there are any other X1 Yoga owners out there, could you please test this out?  I normally adjust volume with the Fn keys (with the lid open, obviously) so I didn't notice this issue until today.  I was just trying to listen to music with the lid closed for the first time today when I noticed the problem. Thanks!

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I have all my sound drivers installed (I can get sound just fine in every app), but I can't control the main volume in the Volume Control. I can adjust the volume with the Wave slider, but the main one doesn't do anything, including mute. Individual applications' volume controls work fine too, just not the main Windows one. It wouldn't be a problem, but it might be the reason why I'm not getting any volume on the Stereo Mix recording option. I just finished a clean install of XP (for a different reason) and it wasn't working before, either. Any ideas?

Hi

Since upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit I can't turn the volume all the way down by using the volume control at the front of the notebook. Worked fine under Vista 32 bit.
The volume control still works but no matter how far I wind it to the left there is still sound coming from the speakers.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Hi

Thanks in advance for any help
I've got a a Dell Lattitude D820 with Windows XP home.
One day, out of the blue, I started getting an error message when Windows tries to boot.
Unmountable_Boot_Volume

with some unhelpful directions, and then at the bottom,

Stop: 0X000000ED (0x864FB590, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I checked out some different places and the general advice was to try and boot windows from the Windows CD. After setting the BIOS and cleaning the disk, this is what happens

Blue screen with ?Windows Setup? appears and at the bottom it tells me all the little steps it's taking to get windows going. It all goes well and I get ?Setup is starting Windows?

but then I get another blue screen of doom, this one says:

Stop: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xF76130BF, 0xF7A5F208, 0xF7A5EF08)

pci.sys- Address F76130BF base at F760C000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

I'm not even sure I can reformat if the CD won't work. Ugh.

A:Unmountable Boot Volume, and Windows CD doesn't work

Are you using IDE or SATA. Did you check to be sure you are using the proper cable if you are using IDE? That could cause the first error and the second error. The second error is a driver based error. Hopefully you have a backup because there is a possibility your hard drive is dying. My suggestion...check the cabling...remove any unneeded hardware from the computer...check to make sure everything else is seated properly and try to start up. How old is the computer?

Also the mixer device appears as SiS 7012 Wave.

I already uninstalled and installed the driver several times from the CD and I downloaded it and installed it too and the problem persists.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

Now with Win 7 I can't use the wheel anymore, even with the latest drivers. Does anyone know this problem?

I have a Lenovo T530 and am using Windows 10 and recently had to replace the keyboard because a few buttons were just plain gone (don't ask). I'm not sure if it's the Lenovo, the keyboard or Windows 10 that are causing these problems, but I am beginning to think it's Windows 10. I apologize in advance for the long post. Despite the keyboard being new and installed and working very well (as is obvious from the fact that I'm typing on it right now), the backlight is not working, even on startup. I made sure when I purchased the keyboard that the backlight was included and there's even that little symbol on the spacebar indicating that it should. While this is not the end of the world, the volume buttons have completely stopped working. I can control the volume on the computer through the keyboard's volume buttons after startup for about a minute, but as soon as I click a single program or open an application or something I can no longer control the volume through the volume buttons. I can still use most of the other hotkey buttons (barring Fn+F5 and Fn+F6, but I never used those even when they did work). I have tried updating a few drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers in multiple times in multiple ways and checking things in BIOS and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions other than a system restore or something along those lines since I had a similar audio problem on my last keyboard with the audio and it went away with a new windows update. I have been having a problem with my computer for a few weeks now. I have Windows Vista on my computer, and have Webroot Virus Scan. When I go to Google's search engine and click on the link, it gets redirected. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, the volume doesn't work at all. Also, sometimes when I turn my computer on, the computer doesn't load, and it says there is a problem with DellDock installation (which I have no clue what that means). I never had any of these problems before this virus showed up. When I run Webroot, it catches the same virus everytime, some type of virus in Java. I have tried researching this virus, but as I said, Google links don't work. So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

A:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Thanks.

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Hi,
Windows XP Home
RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to in the archives.

How can adjust the volume output from my Windows ME machine (with SoundMax Digital Audio) so that the volume of the background music I like to listen to (via RealOne Player version 6.0.10.505) is quiet, but the other important sounds my PC makes (like email or calendar notifications) are loud enough so I can hear them?

I've seemingly tried all combinations of settings for the volume sliders/adjustments, including:

1) The volume knob on my speakers
2) The RealOne Player volume slider
3) The Windows volume control panel "Volume Control" slider
4) The WIndows volume control panel "PC Beep" slider

Even when the "PC Beep" volume slide is set to maximum, and the "Volume Control" slider is set near minimum in the Windows volume control panel, the PC beep is virtually inaudible when the background music is acceptably quiet (by adjusting the RealOne volume slider and/or the volume control on my speakers).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some other way that I'm not thinking of to boost the volume of the system sounds my PC makes, while keeping the RealOne music volume low?

Thanks,

--Dean

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a truecrypt encrypted volume which is my entire hard drive.  This contains the windows OS and my files(one of many backed up encrypted copies).  I would now like to implement a 2nd truecrypt volume inside this present truecrypt volume.  Truecrypt calls this a hidden volume.  The idea is that at boot-up, you can use one of two passwords.  The one you choose dictates which (the primary or the hidden) volume.  The easy way to do this is to do it when first creating both truecrypt volumes but I did not realize I wanted to create this hidden volume until now.  All of the instructions I have seen require you to dismount the encrypted volume which will host the hidden volume first.  However I can't do that because I need that volume decrypted in order to run the truecrypt software which performs the function.

Any ideas other than decrypting the encrypted volume and starting from scratch?

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

Have an external USB hard drive caddy with a naked Raptor drive sitting in it which has one partition that is the entire capacity of the Raptor drive...this is an 'active' volume.
1. Can someone tell me if I delete the volume under Computer Management>Disk Management>Delete Volume will this return it to being an 'inactive' volume?
2. Also can you tell me after deletion will I need to initialise the drive in the usual way like when one installs a new drive in a PC?
3. Upon reboot will Windows just offer to initialise it within Disk Management?

I want it to just be a simple, basic, single partition drive just for data backup. In past it was my OS drive which is when it was made an active volume. Using W7/64bit professional.

Recently the Volume Icon keeps appearing on my screen, and automatically increases the volume to 100%. I have not made any significant changes in my operating system. The Icon stands in front of all other screens and cannot be dismissed. It quits when it's ready after a few seconds. It pops up every 3-4 minutes or so. My drivers are up to date. Hello melb1946Does your keyboard have volume buttons? I know in my experiences I have sometimes run into similar scenarios. In my case the problem was accidentally hitting the volume button on my keyboard. How is your sound setup in Windows 7? Is your monitor set as the default sound device? Do other sound devices increase their volumes?Probably one of the best ways to isolate the problem would be to put the monitor on another computer and see if the sound continues to appear and go up.

Hello. Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read this.  I`m in a crux...

Here are my computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 64bit home premium (latest windows updates installed)
CPU: Intel i5 3570K (slightly oc`d to 43)
mobo: Asus p8z77-v Pro/thunderbolt
gpu: Asus HD 7850
sound card: none (using onboard realtek)
logitech mouse
cheap keyboard
speakers: logitech externally powered (two speakers 1 subwoofer - really cheap)

I put all the parts together myself and had the system running nice - before I moved.  At the time there were no problems with sound I also had a DAC connected via USB, so I was switching between headphones and speakers depending on the occassion.

Here`s where my prob started.  I recently moved.  I carried the pc by hand to ensure it didn`t get banged up or incur any excessive shock.  Aside from the slight bobbing motion of my walking I`d believe no harm was done to the machine.

I hooked it up at the new apartment, with the hdmi cable going from ati card to the TV.  The TV plays back the sound perfectly - running the sound through the speakers though the volume is nearly inaudible over the fan sound.  I tried to play sound through various software, youtube, windows media player, vlc, and others (ensuring their respective volume sliders were at full), but it`s still quiet.

When I hooked up the PC this second time the mouse and keyboard were most likely connected to different usb... Read more

A:Very quiet volume although all (?) volume controls are maxed.

As you say the sound over your TV is excellent, there is almost certainly nothing wrong with the performance of your on-board sound. Without seeing them, am I right in thinking that you take a lead from the audio out at the back of your computer to the speakers, and their internal amplifier drives the sound output ?  If so, and this may be very silly, is this lead plugged into the correct socket at the back of the computer ?

Failiing that, see if you can borrow some speakers from a friend, any speakers at all will do. This will enable you to determine if the problem is with your speakers or the sound output.

Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

So I recently moved my microphone/headset plugs to the rear jacks of my computer, the reason I did this was because when plugged in to the front jacks, my microphone had a white noise I couldn't get rid of, the rear jacks doesn't have this issue, but my mic volume is quiet

I think it might be a driver issue? I know its not my mic because when plugged in the front, people can hear my voice fine but there's just static noise too, and it's sort of loud

A:Microphone Volume is quiet, even at maximum volume

More PC info is needed. Including what sound and sound driver you have.

The front panel jacks are just an extension of the sound jacks. Usually if there is problem, the front do not work correctly but the read does. Are you plugging the mic into the correct Pink jack? If it were plugged into the wrong jack that can happen.

Hello Guys,
this is my first post on eightforums,
i recently got a new laptop "asus vivobook" that came preloaded with windows 8.
The laptop comes with a hybrid 24 GB ssd (8GB of those are for the system files, windows 8 is installed on,the remaining are in a 2nd partition for recovery)
i deleted the recovery partition and made a recovery on an 8 GB usb drive, because im dual booting a different linux os alongside windows.
I used rEFInd boot manager to boot the 2 operating systems, everything boot and works fine.
However, since the dual booting started i noticed that the windows 8 loading time has became a bit slower, when i choose to sart windows 8 the asus logo appears and under it this message
"Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume{...large hex identifier..}): 100% Complete"
it stays for 2,3 seconds and then windows 8 start,i ran a chkdsk for the c drive, but that didnt solve the problem.
Is there any way to fix this issue,
Thanks.

A:Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume...) on startup

The problem you are seeing could be caused by the Win8 "fastboot" feature. Disable fastboot and see if that fixes the problem. It can occur on dual boot and other multi partition configurations.

Hello everyone! I run Windows 8.1, and have been having a strange issue lately. A reformat and fresh install did nothing to help this.

Seemingly at random, in my volume mixer, specific programs will drop to 10% level. If I turn the volume all the way back up, it'll only go back down a bit later. I've tried this with / without my realtek drivers. Also, I've set the option under "Communications" in playback devices to "Do nothing", and this still hasn't helped. Any VoIP programs I use I've turned off ducking, and yet the problem still persists.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

I've had this problem with Windows Vista Ultimate 64, Windows 7 64 7077, and Windows 7 64 7100.

Basically, the volume starts out at normal level, then all the sudden it will be real quiet. It stays quiet and no matter what settings I adjust, I cannot get it to play louder again. I would really like to disable all of the volume controls in windows and run Bit Perfect audio....

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Audio Rig: B&K 7270, Emotiva DMC-1, Polk LSI-25

That amp is putting out nearly 400 wpc (weighing nearly 100lbs O_O) to each speaker... My normal listening volume is -46 db (on my DMC-1)... now I have to put it on -17Db to get the same listening level. Something is wrong, and it's definitely the settings in windows.

I noticed the change immediately while I was listening and accidentally adjusted the bass settings in windows sound settings, the sound level fell instantly, and never returned...

any ideas?

I've long used Winamp while watching videos on my computer. They've always peacefully co-existed but now things have changed. I did a clean install of Windows and now Winamp is dramatically louder than any other movie file I play. Games and program sounds are just fine but movies seem to have sound issues.

It isn't that Winamp is louder than normal, it is very much at the volume it has always been. Movies are just sooo friggin quiet now. I have to turn my speaker volume all the way up, turn the media player volume all the way up, and then turn the Windows volume all the way to max for the WAV slider. It is ridiculous.

I even loaded an ASF file into Windows Media Player, Windows Media Player Classic, The Core Media Player, and PowerDVD. All had the exact same super low volume. I loaded that same video into Winamp and it sounded so much louder. I had the video playing in Winamp and WMP Classic at the same time and the difference is crazy. So what is going on? Why does Winamp get normal volume but all other sources that play video files get super low sound?

I considered a codec problem, sound card problem, and/or a media player program issue, but then Winamp wouldn't be able to play a video at normal volume. Does anybody know what might be going on?

Howdy everyone, am in a bit of a pickle and would appreciate some pointers.
The past 2 days i have lost the sounds of my operating system, cannot stream audio and have lost my volume icon from the taskbar.

I am however able to listen to CDs through itunes, media player etc and can watch DVDs fine. It is just there are no sounds on windows start up and games etc and no streaming audio on Youtube, Myspace etc.

I have tried many things, obviously ticking, un ticking the box in control panel etc. Have tried system restore, been on kellys korner or whatever its called, looked up the problem but i need XP driver disk to reinstall sounds card. I dont have XP driver disk.
aswell i tried downloading new soundcard which didnt work. Was clutching at straws really.

i think some kind of codec i downloaded started the problem. My "show desktop" and Thunderbird icons have also disappeared from other side of taskbar.

My system is XP Pro, a Compaq Armada M700 laptop. Soundcard is a ESS Maestro 2E
Im usually pretty good at solving these kinds of problems, have been googling this for ages tho to no avail

if anyone could help that would be great

thanks

The speaker icon isn't on the toolbar. iTunes and MySpace music won't play. I have Windows XP. Sorry for any mistakes. THANKS! I have now realized how much I appreciate my hearing...

A:Volume Control Won't Work

You may have a corrupt driver.
Go to the Control Panel & double click the System icon
Click on the Hardware tab
Open the device manager
uninstall the sound device
restart the unit to let it reinstall
if that doesn't work download the driver from the manufacturers web site & install it.

sorry about the lack of caps, i'm holding a slice of pizza with my left hand.

Hello to everybody,
after resize the 2 volumes of my workstation that uses a raid-0 configuration with the mini tool partition software i am no able to boot the system. The system has a 100 gb primary partition and a 350 gb secondary partition that i have reduced in order to
give more space to the C drive. Everything goes well, but after 2 days the system crashes and after that the system recovery starts automatically (because there is a system recovery partition inside my hard disks). The startup recovery cannot resolve anything,
it works for days and i have to shut down the pc from the power button in order to end the startup recovery. After that i have tried with the windows 7 dvd: this gives me the following results:
-repair action: File repair
result: failed. Error code = 0x490
Time taken=19329ms
-Repair action: Boot configuration data restore repair
Result: Failed. Error code 0x490.
Time taken =187ms
-Repair action: System restore
Result: Completed succesfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken = 5203008 ms
The system restore doesn't work even if it is shown that it has to be succesful and if i do it manually the system cannot restore the system at the previous restore point. Then i have tried with the bootrec in the command prompt, trying to fix the mbr and
the bcd, but also this options doesn't work for my case.
I if list the volumes inside the disk with diskpart i see that the c and d partition are marked with a rebuild flag in the status bar.

This problem has started in recent weeks (yes, too far back to do System Restore):

When I reboot, if I click on the speaker icon in the Notification Area, it tells me that Windows Audio is not running (and so no media app will produce any sound). However, if I then raise or lower the volume via my multimedia keyboard, Windows Audio starts running.

This is despite the fact that in Services, the Startup Type of Windows Audio is Automatic. So why doesn't it start on reboot?

A:Windows Audio Service doesn't start until I adjust volume

Does Event Viewer have entries related to that service?

I have just bought a Acer laptop. The model, as it says on my laptop, Aspire 4752-6838.

The problem is that my fn hotkeys do not work for raising and lowering the volume or muting or playing. That would be fn + up, fn + down, and fn + f8, respectively.

Interestingly enough, my fn hotkeys work for other functions like num lock, brightness. Im not sure about my other fn keys working, but i dont have a need for them, so i dont care. However i really want to use my fn hotkeys for volume control.

Is there any way to enable this? Or does any one know where this problem arises and a solution?

BTW i read the manual and it doesn't help me with my problem. I also tried searching google and found no help either. If anyone knows where else i can look, that would help too.

A:My fn hotkeys do not work for volume control

Take it back to where you bought it and have them take a look. It could be a faulty keyboard. What version of Windows are you running? Have you run Windows update till no more updates are found?

I just got my IR Blaster for my XBOX ONE. I've gone thought the devices setup for my TV and Cable BOX. Also setup the TV guide. The only thing I can't get to work is the volume up down on the TV? Pushing those buttons on the XBOX Media Remote does nothing. It works during the setup, I can see it increment by one when it sends the volume up signal and asks for confirmation that it worked. Sound is to the TV VIA HDMI. TV and cable box go on and off when the XBOX is turned on and off. Chanel up down works on the cable box with the XBOX remote. I've gone through the setup several times but can't figure out how to make it work? I have not been able to adjust the volume, ever from the XBOX remote, either in games, or playing media on the XBOX ONE. I just assumed it's because I don't have any external speakers attached? Anybody have an XBOX with IR Blaster setup and working?

The XBOX is a gaming console so that's why I posted this here.

I've been having a problem recently with my volume on my laptop, a HP M6-1125dx. I have noticed that slowly over the course of a few days I have to keep turning the volume up higher and higher to have the same volume come out of the speakers. I used to consistantly be able to keep my volume around 15, but now I''m having to turn it up to 40 or 50 after a few days. It goes back to normal after a restart though (even a 'soft' restart) and then blows out my ears because either I've forgotten to turn it down before restarting or windows did it to me automatically.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have no idea where I should start since I couldn't find info of anyone having a similar problem.

A:Volume slowly decreases forcing higher and higher volume settings until restart

See if reinstalling the audio drivers helps.

Volume and Mute buttons do not work with Windows 7
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Hp DV9823CL. The quickplay and dvd buttons work, but the volume and mute buttons do not. This is what I sent HP:

problem description : I did a clean install of Windows 7. Prior to the clean install all quickplay buttons worked fine. Now the quickplay and the dvd buttons work, but the volume and mute buttons do not work.
troubleshooting : I reinstalled quickplay, as well as the quick play buton drivers that are listed. I also did a troubleshoot that worked once when I removed the battery and put it back in. This also does not fix the problem.

This is what their repsonse was:

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
Scott, as I was checking your notebook?s specification I found that your notebook was shipped with Windows Vista. Your notebook is not upgradable to windows 7 as there is no driver available your notebook?s driver page. Your notebook is design to perform its best in Windows Vista. So I request you to get back to the original operating system.
If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

scott,
I remember getting such a msg from HP one time. I was stubborn and got hold of another person at HP who pointed me to the info I needed. Trouble is your inquiry gets handled by a Tier 1 newbee who doesn't know up from down and only has a script of answers to questions. Hang in there.

Also, try out the WIN + X combo You will possibly find what you are looking for.
The WIN key is that one with the funny looking wavy flag on it.

Thanks,
I will try it ( I am working late the next couple day's,so I won't be able to untill then ). Also, I work in retail (electronics area) and have done all the common troubleshooting. I did run the advisor, prior to install, and there were no issues found.

Thanks again,
Scott

Try the Vista Drivers
Many hardware drivers for Vista will work for Windows 7.

I think HP uses a program to monitor the "extra" buttons like volume, play, mute, etc. Try the Vista version of that program for your laptop.

Also, look at the specs for a later version of your laptop that HP is selling with Windows 7, see if a newer version of that program is available for the newer PC and try it.

I used the drivers for newer model Dell Inspirons when I upgraded my 6000 to Vista, some worked, some did not. you may have to try several versions to get one that works ri... Read more

I have always been a fond user of multimedia keyboard/mouse controls, particularly volume control. Unfortunately, ever since I got a new audio card (Creative SB X-Fi) in order to use digital surround sound (SPDIF DTS encoding >>> amplifier), muting still works, however, volume control doesn't change anything.

Now I am aware of all the arguments that you can't change digital output volume, however, i know this CAN be done. I have done this myself in two ways, firstly, by changing the EQ level in the Creative volume mixer, and more intruigingly, by changing Creative's "What U Hear" level in the recording tab of the control panel sound controls pane.

Ideally, I would like keyboard volume controls to adjust the "What U Hear" level, however volume control only changes the default PLAYBACK device, and "What U Hear" is a RECORDING device.

So here is my Question:

How do you configure volume controls to adjust the "What U Hear" level? Alternatively, can digital volume control be achieved in another way?

I'm sure this can be done by changing a registry key associating volume +/- and default device, but no luck so far. If anyone can help or has another method for control digital volume I would be much appreciated.

PS. I am not interested in using my amp's remote for volume so please don't suggest that.

A:Creative X-Fi digital volume control. Help, I KNOW this can work!!!

Unless you are a programmer and can create a program to do this specific task, I don't see a way around it. The S/PDIF doesn't use the sound card or at least the parts of it that can be controlled by the usual methods.

What you are hearing in the PC speakers is being generated by the PC's sound card, after the digital section so that is two different functions.

It looks like, to me, that "you can't get there from here".

A:Getting the brightness / wifi on-off / volume keys to work

you would have to go to the manufacturer of the computer and download the specific to your model, driver software for the laptop.

I have an LG external hard drive which I accidentally unplugged one day without doing the safe eject. Disk Management says the drive is healthy but that the file system was RAW. I could not reformat it. So I deleted the volume and tried to reformat from scratch into NTFS as I had seen in one of your posts. It has now been 12 hours and only 41% has been formatted. This can't be right.

Alright, very odd problem here:

My house loses power suddenly as I'm using my computer for some text work.I go to boot up Windows XP and get the awesome blue screen, declaring an Unmountable Boot Problem. I figure no problem, I'll go ahead and run the restore utility. I run chkdsk and fixboot, then retry. No luck. I try a myriad of other options. Finally, I figure I'll install windows on a different partition of my 160 gig hard drive.

When I go into that utility option, it shows me the available partitions. For some reason, the partition C:/ reads as 104000 free out of 104000. The E: (backup) drive, on the other hand, is nearly full, and there's a seperate 5 gig partition assigned to H:. The H: drive has a bootable sector, and is apparently the partition the computer was attempting to boot to.

I am having difficulty understanding the issue. Is my C: drive really empty? What the heck is the H drive?

A:Unmountable Boot Volume-CHKDSK does not work

I think it may have been a mistake to install OS on a partition section of your hard drive. That may be why you now have an "H" drive. But I am in NO WAY an expert in this.

Someone I know experienced a power outage just as he was logging into his account. Before it loaded, it was zapped! It hosed his system and he couldn't fix it. He couldn't even get his Ghost backup restored on it (couldn't boot up). He was able to go a friend's computer to plug in his hard drive (in an empty bay) and get his backup restored that way. Once the backup was restored, he was okay, minus what he lost since the backup.

Wish I had more for you. Good Luck.
