The Audio Service is not running, Alienware M14x Windows 7 64-bit

Q: The Audio Service is not running, Alienware M14x Windows 7 64-bit

Hey everyone, so i come home one day and turn on my laptop, i go to play some music and i realize nothing is playing. I look at the speaker icon and it has a white x in a red circle over it. I tried to open the settings but it kept saying "one or more audio services are not running." So i tried enabling "Windows Audio" in the services.msc, but all it says is "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer, Error2: The system cannot find the file specified." So i assumed that there were no output devices that were recognized by my laptop. But then i realized that everyday for the past year I have been listening with the same headphones, so how could this happen out of the blue? I look on skype settings for example, and there are no speakers recognized, (not in the drop down box), and no mic etc. I am really worried, and this has happened before, and the company changed my motherboard. Although now I do not have warranty so i am nervous. I am just so confused as to how this could happen so randomly. Oh and I also tried updating my drivers from dell.support website, and nothing seems to work. Please help if possible, Thanks alot.

PS: please be very specific, because I am alright with computers but the simpler the better, Thanks.

Please fill in your specs for future reference.
First of all, I would recommend trying a system restore to a date before the problem appeared.
If that does not work, try right clicking My computer->Properties->Device Manager and see if there any driver that is showing with an exclamation mark. If so, please post the error code and the Hardware ID that you can find by right clicking the driver, going to Properties->Details and choosing "Hardware IDs" from the dropdown menu.
Also, try going intro Control Panel -> Sound and see if your speakers/headphones are recognized there.

I have an Alienware m14x R1 laptop. Up until yesterday, it was working 90% of the time and I was really happy with it. The main problem I'm having is that when I'm watching a video the audio makes robotic buzzing and popping sounds, as well as a bit of video lag. The only clues I have are that I have gotten some low memory warnings and that it still does this with or without headphones.

A:Alienware m14x Audio Problems

You should investigate the memory issue.

Use Task Manager and check the cpu usage. High cpu usage can cause what you are describing as audio is low priority and one of the first things to suffer.

Could also be an audio driver issue or the audio chipset is just faulty.

I have recently found out that my laptop doesn't go well with windows 10. So I did a reinstall thinking that would help, but it didn't. I can't even go back to window 7 even with the recovery CD. All of my Alienware apps are gone, none of my game files were saved, even though I made sure I wanted to save my files. I don't really know how, but I really want to go back to Windows 7 home. Or at least get my WIndows 10 working properly. And if possible, re-download Alienware Command Center.

A:Windows 10 problems with Alienware M14x

Hello!  First of all I am going to assume you have the m14x original and not the R2?  If so it was never validated to work with Windows 10 unfortunately as you seem to have found out, so getting it to work with Windows 10 would be more hassle then its worth.  If you have windows 7 dvd's did you not get one that had the OS and one with the drivers?  The drivers disc would have all the applications while the OS disc generally just has the OS on it.  You can also follow the information in section one here, to download or acquire restore media.

This computer is not even two months old.

When I open up the task manager, it says the CPU usage is between 2% and 7%, and the physical memory is between 30% and 60%. This is right now, with MSN and Google Chrome open.

What I'm experiencing seems to be an animation lag. It starts on startup.

I turn the computer on, and the Alienware logo loads in two parts, and then moves to the "Starting Windows" animation. Usually it loads very piecy with a very huge lag, showing maybe a frame per 3 seconds or so, before eventually stopping its lag and running like normal.

Then, animations like typing, loading icons, and even the smileys on the right side of the box I'm typing in are moving way too slow, like my computer is running a thousand things at once.

It can't be my internet making everything lag like it is, and it wasn't like this when I first got it. It just started maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago and hasn't let up.

I tried uninstalling all programs I don't use, setting my video card to its defaults, updating my video card, using system restore, defragging, cleaning my registry, and many, many virus scans, and still no luck.

Any input on what to do?

Can you run a hardware test of your video card? If you have two video cables (analog and digital) try the other one.

So...I've had my laptop for over a year and a half now and I'm noticing some big issues with heat. The back is propped up and I have a small fan running next to it, and I cleaned out a lot of dust from the built-in fan a couple days ago. I don't have anything overclocked, but it still heats up a while playing games.
Games usually run fine until my laptop heats up, which is when BD-prochot kicks in. I've tried disabling BD-prochot once but that only lead to my computer shutting down from heat, so that's staying on. The largest area the heat is in is right around the top center, near the power button (I'm not so good with computer anatomy, so forgive me for how I describe where things are). Does anyone know what this could be? Has my thermal paste worn off?

I just installed a second hard drive in place of the optical drive in my Alienware M14x R1. I put an SSD into the main drive bay, and installed a caddy with the original HDD (Western Digital Scorpio Black 500gb) into the optical drive. I did a fresh install of windows onto the SSD, and planned to use the HDD for data and games. It seemed to be working fine (windows recognized it, and I could transfer data to and from it) but all of a sudden, the hard drive started randomly 'hanging' when reading from the drive. For example, when copying data from the drive, it will stop on a single file, and sit there for a while, then continue for a while and repeat.

I opened up the Resource manager and pulled up the disk tab to watch the graphs while the hangs occurred. When the hangs happen, the blue line (Highest Active Time) for the HDD goes up to 100% and stays there, occasionally spiking down to zero but then back up again. Meanwhile the shaded green line goes all the way down (I think this means there is no IO activity happening).

The weird part is that all of the hangs are exactly one minute in length, every single time. I'm not sure if it's relevant, but that is also the amount of time it takes for 1 cycle of the resource manager graph. During that time, I can't read or write from the HDD, but the SSD is perfectly fine. If I'm playing music from the HDD, it stops, then continues after the hang stops.

I checked the System Event Viewer for errors, an... Read more

ive looked in the disk manager and theres nothing on there whatsoever besides my ssd. no unallocated space or anything.

any way to fix this? I made sure the cable was tight as well...

thanks

Exactly what is a extra hard drive bay?

What cable are you using for your hook up?

Are your system specs correct? They don't match the Lenovo H50-50 specs.
I can see from your other threads/post that you have been swapping parts around.

I have been dealing with this issue for nearly a year. I have done multiple re-installations of Windows 7, I have spoken to Alienware support who sent me a new hard drive thinking that was the issue... That was about 6 months or so ago and I'm now getting corruption messages for files on the new HD.

The bsod occurs when I try to shut down or restart the computer. It is a power state failure. I have run a bluescreen viewer program and was shown it's being caused by ntoskrnl.exe. I've attached all the information you may need to this email. Let me know if you need something I didn't include.

I reinstalled windows in February... I've started getting the bsod again after 2 months. I'm considering installing Windows 10 to see if that will fix it, but do not have much hope. I've updated drivers, but not sure if I've hit them all. Went to Dell, where I purchased the computer and updated what drivers they suggested.

Any help will be appreciated. Nothing I have done seems to fix the problem. I'm computer savvy, but not an expert by any stretch. I'm about ready to throw this computer through a window.

A:BSOD at Shutdown and Restart - Alienware m14x R2

I'm not having the same BSOD problems as you but I've also used BlueScreen View to diagnose BSODs on my A-Ware PC. It also reads that there is a problem with "ntoskrnl.exe", so perhaps this is just BSV's way of saying:

"I don't know what the problem is".

Just thought I'd mention that.

Have you tried WhoCrashed? Might get better results.

I'm aware the laptop is a bit dated but I got it at a great price. The hardware is still surprisingly good but I was hoping to upgrade the screen to a 1080P one. Is that possible? I've heard of it being done on the R2 models.

If possible what should I do?

Hello all,

I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy individual, so I will try to convey the problem I'm having here. I'm at my girlfriend's house, and have two laptops with me. One is a Sony VAIO (which I am currently using), the other is an Alienware m14x (sitting right next to me). I use the Alienware to play Diablo 3, and have had no issues connecting to any wireless access points prior to this.

My sony connects to her home network just fine (linksys), but the alienware will not. I enter in the network password, and when I try to connect, it gives me the yellow exclamation mark over the white connection bars. When I click on it, it says "connected" in bold letters next to the network name. However, above, it says "Unidentified network," and underneath, "No Internet access."

I have tried disabling firewalls and anti-virus software, I have reset the router, the computer, the wireless adapter, all to no avail. I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty sure it's not the router's issue since all other wireless devices in the house connect to it just fine. Can anyone help me? I would greatly appreciate any advice/assistance.

Thanks in advance!

A:Alienware m14x laptop, Unidentified network & no internet access

Also, I ran windows network diagnostics, and it said "'Wireless Network Connection' doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

A:Windows 8.1, audio service is not running

Although you don't have sound, the Operating System problems are really the problem. If you can't access the Control Panel, it looks like the 8.1 has corrupted your system.

With all the SFC/scannow errors I would suspect an OS problem.

This is a difficult problem for me to put into words, but I am just getting progressively more annoyed as time goes on, so I'll be quick.

Basically, my audio has a tendency to stop working (as in red x over sound icon) at complete random, and despite fixing the supposed "problem" of "audio is too low", it still does this and with seemingly increasing frequency. I have noticed some minor details that happen when this occurs:

1) While inconsistent, it tends to happen right after I open some applications, although this is somewhat random.
2) When it does happen, and I check up the playback devices via right clicking the sound icon, they are completely gone even if the devices are completely plugged in. It's only after I normally click on the icon do they come back after a short period.
3) I check the "Services" and the Windows Audio is off despite the fact that it is automatic. Restarting it only keeps it on for as long as possible until the next random shutoff.
4) It also tends to automatically occur the very moment I log into my account on my computer, so I always end up having to turn it back on.

I am at my wits end here, and I am hoping this place can provide some answers. My computer is a Windows 7 Dell, and I'll try to provide more information if I can.

I AM NOT TECH SAVVY.

Hey,

I am having two issues, small but irritating; once I boot into Windows, my audio service is not running, it is set to automatic and it needed to be manually started (I have tried reinstalling my audio drivers)

I am also having issues with my network, my connection is "identifying" until I launch an application such as Spotify.

I hope this image can assist you in some way along with an ipconfig /all dump.

I am expat living in China. Yesterday I suddenly received a message that said "the audio service is not running". It is possible that I have a virus because that day I had briefly listened to a couple of audio files from what I thought was a reputable Chinese learning site. I ran malwarebytes and did an online bitdefender scan, but nothing came up. I tried to do system restore but found out my system restore was not on. I've since turned it on.

You might even try these if you haven't already - just to eliminate stuff

The first thought, have you tried reinstalling the Sound Drivers? either from the motherboard vendor or if you have RealTek you can get the latest from RealTek and install that.

What you don't want to hear. Most of these have required a reinstall. I've seen quite a few and users have tried many things but in the end it took a reinstall.

Whatever reinstall procedure Toshiba has, would be my recommendation. Back up your user data (pictures, music, word files, etc) to some other media before the recovery as that is deleted on most recoveries.

The point is my audio is crystal clear and my speakers work perfectly even if the X icon is present. if i just adjust the volume, the X icon goes away. And it's pretty frustrating to see that every time when i start my pc so..anyone knows how to help?

My install went OK with the exception that I have no sound, I installed on a HP Pav m1050y Intel Pentium 4 with a Creative Audigy 2Z S sound card. In Services when I attempt to start this error returns "error 1068 the dependency services or group failed to start" Any ideas out there on how to troubleshoot this?

I googled error 1053 and found this exact description of my problem from your site, however, no solution. Please help!!

I had no audio, and I had an error bubble saying that Windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification service or something. Regardless, the service is fine and the event log has nothing about that in it.

The other problem is that I have no sound. This is because the Windows Audio service never started. It never started because its dependency, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is stuck in the "Starting" state.

The event log has two errors in it, 7001 and 7022, which are described as "The Windows Audio service depends on the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service which failed to start because of the following error:
After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state." and "The Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service hung on starting."

After a few minutes, the stop or restart options finally become available, however when I try to stop and then start it again, I receive error 1053 which says it did not respond in a timely fashion.

I have already tried reinstalling my audio drivers, to no avail.

Did you try starting the Remote Procedure Call service and then try enabling Windows Audio service?
Also, if this doesn't work, then you may also try a system restore.

Hi there. Since I turned my laptop on from hibernate/sleep I have had a sound problem. I have a RED X marked on the "speakers/audio" icon on the taskbar. All my drivers / updates are up to date. I am using the Windows audio drivers as the Dell IDT ones are rubbish.

I have researched this via google...used all the so called solutions/fixes...but none of them work.

I used this:-

A high definition audio device may no longer work after you resume Windows Vista from hibernation or from sleep
It says the update is not relevant for me.

Tried uninstalling & reinstalling drivers... multiple restarts...still does not work..

Also booted via Vista disc(Dell provided)...it used startup fix....this did not work.

The above shows the services do not work. Even right clicking trying to start / restart it does not work...I get this error:-

I've even tried to get copies of those files via another Vista pc..but it says I cannot replace/delete files as I don't have priviledge...even though I am an ADMIN..

Furthermore sfc /scannow does not work

Whats going wrong here guys? I simply started up from a hibernation to find this error...& after 12 hours is really stressing me out now.. I do not want to reinstall Vista & loose my data...that would be my last resort (I'd back up data first)...

Hiyya Jarrod and welcome Mate I am a bit confused too what exactly do you mean by your audio service?

In the meantime I found this via a Google - take a look at 714's answer.

The Audio Service Is Not Running + No Devices Found

In case you want to find that type msconfig in the Start window and it will come up as a small blue window - run as admin (I always right click and add to start menu for quick access) in this screen you can also set what you wnat to boot - see the tutorilal by Brink on optimising windows 7

I have that annoying little red circle with the "x" on the sound icon and I have yet to find the solution to this problem anywhere! :(

I'm not a computer whiz but I know a little bit or at least I'm learning fast, but under services, RPC Plug & Play Media Class Scheduler and Windows Audio Endpoint are working or started and on automatic....however, windows audio will not start and gives me an error that reads: Windows could not start Windows Audio on local computer/ the system cannot find the file specified. I thought maybe audiosrv.lll wasn't in windows/system32 but it is and if it wasn't someone said to copy it from windows/servicefilepack (or whatever its called) but I can't find that section under windows. I feel like I've tried everything to no avail. Even system restore to a previous date, but a date during the time where the sound was working was too far back apparently bc the date didn't go that far back!

So if you have any helpful advice I would most def appreciate it :)

Oh just tried starting windows audio again and it seemed like it was working but got an error about "not responding in a timely matter" and the status is now from 'stopped' to 'starting'...seems like good news, but it did this before and never started so now back to square one...oh the insanity!

After many hours searching on google, and discovering more problems, I'm forced to plead ignorance/incompetence and request some help.

Heres the problem (I don't know where it stemmed from):

I turned on the computer one day to find the audio had stopped working. The audio symbol in the corner by the clock has a red circular 'X', and when I hover the mouse over it a pop up reads, 'The audio service is not running'.

When I right click the audio symbol the following options appear:

-open volume mixer (greyed out)
-playback devices
-recording devices
-sounds

When I click on 'sounds' it takes me to the sound menu which states under the tab 'playback devices' that there are no audio devices installed.

Also, when I go to device manager it is completly empty. I've looked at other forums and both problems appear to stem from Plug and Play issues.

However, when I go to Administrative Services there is no 'Plug and Play' option anywhere.

I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers from the HP/Compaq websites to no avail.

I just don't know what to do.

I have a Compaq Presario c700.

Please help!

There is a red X and if I click on the sound icon then the trouble shooter automatically starts and gives me the message 'one or more audio service isn't running.'

I started up my computer a couple days ago to find that my sound wasn't working at all. When I hovered over the volume icon it says The Audio Service is not running and when I try to have Windows 7 troubleshoot, it says one or more audio service isn't running and that the problem has not been fixed.

I've gone into my services folder and looked at Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Multimedia Class Scheduler, and Plug and Play. All of them are set to start automatically, but none of them are started. When I try to manually start them I get the error message the "Windows could not start the service on Local Computer. Error 193: 0xc1." for every service.

I've gone through most of the threads on here that have similar problems, and nothing on there has helped so far. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers to no avail. When I go to manage audio devices, I get a message that says "the computer cannot play audio because the Windows Audio Service is not enabled. Would you like to enable it?" I choose yes and it brings me to the sound menu that should allow me to enable it, but that menu says that I have no audio device installed.

I'm not sure what else I can/need to do. Help!

Where I don't have sound is with a microphone. I can NOT record sound with a microphone and have tried my mic on another pc and it works.

I would like some help getting the microphone working and be able to record from it.

Hello,

I checked many websites & forums to solution for my problem before posting the question here. A week back my Computer's Audio started giving me problems. At first the audio used to stop suddenly during normal working & wouldn't return unless I restart my system. So I tried reinstalling my sound driver & was successful in doing that. But now I see an "X" mark near the Sound Icon on my task bar & says "Audio Service is not running" Here are the trouble shooting I did:

Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services

Plug & Play is ON & Automatic

Multimedia is ON & Automatic

Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is stopped

Windows Audio is stopped.

I tried starting the Windows audio Endpoint Builder & the following error msg appears:

"windows could not start the windows audio endpoint builder service on local computer"

"Error 0x80070002: The system cannot find the file specified"

Under path for executable, I saw that it is looking for a file named svchost.exe.

File seems to be present at the location though nothing seem to happen when I try double clicking it.

Please help in resolving this issue. Since I purchased an HP Laptop with Windows Vista, they didnt give me a separate Vista DVD to try & reinstall it all over again.

1) HP usually includes a "Recovery Partition" on your hard drive. You can use to
=> Restore your installation using their Recovery Partition and
=> I usually allow you the option of creating ONE set of recovery DVDs on your own

2) You only want to focus on Windows Audio service. Do you see StartupType= Automatic or ??? Is it's Status=Stopped? Can you restart Windows Audio?

Hi guys,

I know that this isn't a very rare problem, but I've tried most of the suggestions that have been posted to try and fix this issue but to no avail.

The title pretty much says it all. It turns and off randomly, but as soon as I play a YouTube video or do something that involves playing audio it turns back off again and goes back to the speaker with the red X. This also happens if I just click it.

It's worth noting that I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on Monday, so a system restore wouldn't achieve much.

I appreciate any help you may be able to give me in advance,

Cheers.

A:The Audio Service is not running

First thought, do you have the correct sound driver? If all you have is the generic, basic function High Definition Audio driver the first step is to install the correct sound driver.

I would also not use Chrome, for testing, and only use Internet Explorer or possibly Firefox and see if you still have the problem.

Hi ZZCheetahZZ,

Regarding the "The Audio service is not running" issue, please first try start the Windows Audio service by the steps below:

1. Click the Start Button, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search Bar and press Enter to start Services.
2. In the right pane, please check whether the Windows Audio service is started.
3. If not, please double click the service. In the tab "General ", make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic". Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start this service.

If the service cannot be started, please also check the following services:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Multimedia Class Scheduler
Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Also, you can run audio Troubleshooter by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Troubleshooting audio playback -> Follow the wizard to complete the troubleshoot.

If the issue persists, please also test the issue in Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Linda

I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop with the Vista OS.

My sound stopped working and I made no changes in audio settings nor did I load new software. I've seen similar posts, but I've taken several steps to correct this problem. No success. Please help!

Here's what happened and what I did:

I tried to play a video and got no sound. The speaker icon in the tray at the bottom right of my screen show a red circle with a white X in it to the right of the speaker.

When I hover my mouse over the speaker icon, the following message appears: "The Audio Service is not running."

When I right-click on the speaker icon, the volume mixer option is grayed out. I click on another option (play sounds) and get the following message: "This computer cannot play audio because the windows audio service is not enabled. Would you like to enable..." I click on "yes."

A dialog box appears. I go to the Playback tab. It tells me that "Speakers / Headphones SigmaTel hi-def codec is working." I highlight the section and press the configure button. Nothing happens.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for SigmaTel and Soundblaster. No effect on problem.

Hello, i installed windows 8 CP a few days back and i have been facing quite a few problems. The main one being the audio service not working. I tried a lot of solutions that have been given on the internet but its to no avail. When i try to start the windows audio service from the services screen, it gives me the following error:

I have no idea what this means. So kindly help me out with this.

My second problem is there is no dvd drive shown in the my computer tab. I tried mapping the device but was not able to. I tried upper filter and lower filters method and restarted the pc only to find them both no longer there.

It would be of great help if someone provides a solution for the above problems.

A:Audio service not running

Hello,

I would not be surprised if there is a problem with your audio driver which is causing that.

You can otherwise check that the service is set to Log On as the Local Service account. The service does not need to have the box checked to interact with the desktop.

Follow the advice here:

Configure How a Service Is Started

If you still have issues, it would be best to create a new account with Administrator privileges on the machine and log into it. Test that account out and see if the audio service start well.

I'm aware that there was a thread about this before, but reading it didn't solve my problem. After restarting my computer, I found that my audio service would not start. After investigating the services, I found that the Multimedia Class Scheduler service wouldn't start because of "Error 2 file not found". After researching, I found that a possible solution would be to replace my audiosrv.dll.
After doing that and restarting my computer, the Audio Endpoint Builder service did not start and under the description it read, "Failed To Read Description. Error Code: 1813". I could not find any information about this specific error so I felt my only option was to go to command prompt and type "sfc /scannow" for a system scan. It said that some files are corrupted but it could not do anything about it. The most relevant information I could find was this particular paragraph

Hi,
about a week ago I was trying to clean out my mother's computer, I used "Perfect Uninstaller" to remove programs as I was having issues trying to remove "ask.com toolbar".  By using "Perfect Uninstaller" I was able to remove programs I found to be unnecessary, however after I was done removing programs, I noticed that I had no audio (Speaker Icon in system tray just shows red "X"", I am also curious if I accidentally deleted necessary Windows 7 services/registry files as my mother's computer is extremely slow.
When I click on the "Speaker red X" icon, the troubleshooting report says (Audio device is disabled) (the audio device you selected is currently turned off in Windows) also (One or more audio service isn't running){Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly.  At least one of these services isn't running.}
I have checked and both Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services are both running.
I have also checked and re-installed audio drivers and still no audio, I also found a similar post on this website that suggested to download and install the following files from http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/win-services/7/:
AudioEndpointBuilder.reg
Audiosrv.reg
PlugPlay.reg
WcsPlugInService.reg
I download and installed these files but still no audio.  So, I downloaded Farbar Service Scanner and the following are the results:
I hope you can help me get my mother's computer ... Read more

Yesterday I turned on my computer and I was greeted without any sound. I think my computer updated when I went to bed the day before, so I thought that might've been the cause (or maybe it was AVG). So I looked up how to fix it and saw System Restore, tried that and was greeted with this:

"System Restore failed to extract the file (C:/Windows/WinSxS/Manifests/AM37C0~1.MAN) from the restore point. The restore point was damaged or deleted during the restore."

I don't know what to do now because when I tried to do the advanced recovery thing in PC Settings it won't load, and I can't make an ISO so I can do a refresh install. I'm very distressed, what do I do?

Maybe your problem is bigger than just the audio and maybe you should post your issue in another area of the forum. Good luck.

Whats really weird is it does this on all three of my computers (two desktop, one web book)...

My Audio service will routinely stop when watching movies, playing games or just sitting there silently. I can click on the volume icon to restart it but ill usually have to restart whatever program is currently using it.

I've seen people with the same problem on different forums but none of their solutions seem to work. I've tried setting the subsequent failure to 'restart the service' but to no avail. I've tried deleting my drives and reinstalling them, ive tried looking for new drivers, I've tried a new soundcard on one computer - i just cant work it out.

To my knowledge no files have been used on both my desktops so I cant understand it.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on one and 32 bit on the other pc. Both with service pack 1.

OK.. I can not get sound. I have read all the posts about "audio service isnt running". I do not get a error code. I have checked services under windows audio and audio out. They are started and on automatic. When I open the windows audio, it shows no dependencies. On the audio out, it does. I have updated all drivers from the manufactures sites.
I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. Didnt help.

When I try to run audio, it shows that it is working on the volume control.(see screenshot)

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron M5010 (Windows 7)

Yesterday my speakers stopped working. Actually I think that they are fine because I have connected the computer with external speakers that are 100% working this morning and still there was no sound.

I've tried some solutions given by other people in the web but unfortunately sound does not return.

For instance, I've done a system restore, re-install drivers, format the laptop, open services.msc and restarted the Windows audio but the outcome was always the same.

Since it is within warranty, I will take it to the retailler soon if I can't solve it and I hope that I don't have to pay anything.

I am looking forward to read your suggestions.

I ran diagnostics. The speakers worked for the diagnostics.

I spent two hours on the line with Dell technicians who tell me that it's not a hardware problem.

I tried logging on as another user. Still have a problem.

Hi
I stupidly tried to use a program I didn't know much about to help with a problematic uninstall of 'WinZip'.
After running this program I restarted my Laptop (Windows Vista SP2) only after restart all the security services had stopped, no internet & most annoyingly no audio" (I use this laptop primarily for making music).

The specific problem is when I go to 'services' and try to Start the 'Windows Audio' Service, I get this exact message:

"Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. Error 0x8007000e: Not enough storage space is available to complete this operation."

I tried a boot in safe mode, same issues.

I'd recently scanned for viruses/malware, no issues.

I can't do a System Restore, when I try I get this message:
"System restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system"
& again I get the error messsage: Error 0x8007000e
"Not enough storage space is available to complete this operation."

I'm thinking I've wrecked my laptop for good, so any help would be very much appreciated...

Thanks in advance,

Chris

A few days ago I had a windows update, and after it was done everything seemed fine. I muted my sound later on, and suddenly it wouldnt come back on. When I mouse over it, it says Audio Service is not running. After googling the problem I have done the following to try to fix it:
System recovery
Uninstall then Install AVG2015
Updated drivers
Disable then Enable the mmcss.dll file
Tried to start it via Run>Services>Windows Audio
Whenever I try to start it that way, I get Error 0x800706cc: the endpoint is a duplicate.
I really really dont know what else to do to fix it, and it's really getting to be upsetting. If anyone at all could help me out I'd be much appreciative.

A:Audio Service is not running Error Message

Go to the run command line and type in services.msc the services management console will arrive. Look down the list and find that service, according to that message it should say, stopped.
Right click that line and select properties, you should get this.

You want to click the start button and then ensure the start up type is automatic, there is a n arrow at the end of the long bar, you can select the option you want, such as manual, automatic etc.
I would be happy if you tried this and let us know the results.

For reasons unknown to me, my boot has noticeably slowed down, and when I reach the desktop, the volume icon in the system tray has a red x on it, indicating the audio service is not running. Because these two issues arose simultaneously, I can't help but think they must be related.

This is a new problem on my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 installation.

My boot drive is an SSD, and Windows 8.1 was always very fast to load. It used to only be 2-3 seconds on the 'Welcome' screen before the desktop. Now it takes more like 10 to 15 seconds on the 'Welcome' screen before reaching the desktop. That's not a huge problem in itself, but apparently symptomatic of something not quite right, and it coincided with the "audio service is not running" problem.

I can't think of any changes I made to my configuration, certainly nothing related to the Windows Audio service.

Another odd thing is: if I go into Services, it clearly shows Windows Audio actually is running (and set to Automatic startup). If I select Restart the service, it does and the volume icon then acknowledges it. While that solves the volume issue until the next time I boot, it obviously doesn't fix the underlying problem.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose and resolve this issue? Thanks!

A:Boot became slow and the audio service is not running...

So today I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and for whatever reason my Alienware 17 r2 laptop stopped running the games I play at the settings I had with the 8.1 OS. I quickly reverted back to Windows 8.1 and subsequently my laptop stopped recognizing my xbox 360 controller and Razor DeathAdder Chroma mouse. So I went into the BIOS and changed some of the usb settings and my 360 controller was all good, however the Razor mouse still isn't working. Which is strange because in the BIOS screen the mouse lighted up as if it was functioning normally. Basically I'm just looking for any solutions for fixing the mouse. Much appreciated.

So I got my laptop maybe 3 months ago and it's working fine ever since then. Then today I turned it on and after signing in there would be about 10 seconds before it would restart itself. Keep in mind I am 16 so if you can explain how to solve this as simple as possible it would be much appreciated.

I have lost all sound and there is the "x" next to my speaker icon on the bottom right. I have read what other people have done here and none of the fixes have helped.

If I right click on the speaker icon, I get the "Would you like to enable Windows Audio" message. If I say yes, I do NOT get an error. It goes to the screens about my audio.

But my audio is obviously not working. So I go to the Windows Audio in the Services section. It is on automatic but not running. When I try to run it, I get the message: "Windows could not start the Window Audio service on the local computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process."

I have looked at all of the dependent services: Plug N Play, Multimedia Class Scheduler, Remote Procedure Call, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder. Those are ALL automatic and Running.

I saw someone mention something about going to the Registry Editor to remove dependencies but I couldn't figure out the registry (looked like lots of gobblegook to me) but since all of my dependent processes are running just fine, I don't think that would be the answer anyway.

Any other ideas of what I can try?

Also, All of my sound drivers are working properly and I have no error messages that I can find

You're absolutely right. DON'T try modifying the registry for this problem. Is far more likely to do damage then any good

A few thoughts...

1. I'd first attempt to simply uninstall then reinstall your audio drivers. To uninstall, look in Ctrl Panel->Program and Features and look for your audio to uninstall. Locate the driver download from the vendor website for your computer to reinstall

2. If reinstalling doesn't solve it Also, take a look at Reference Guide to Help Setup and Troubleshoot Windows Audio and Sound Cards

3. Tho I'll also mention that SOMETIMES malware can be what interferes with audio service and prevents it from running. I mention this to also keep in mind because you say Windows Update is also reporting errors. Both your audio and Windows update problem might due to malware.

In any case, try reinstalling first and post back with any results

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can help as I have lost all sound on my laptop.

I've been running Vista on my laptop (dell) for about 2 years fine. This morning when I turned my laptop on I got an error at startup which says:
C:\Windows\system32\AVRT.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact you system administrator or the software vender for support.
I click okay and my computer loads normally, but when I hover over the sound icon in the taskbar it says "The audio service is not running".

i have tried restarting and computer and using system restore (to several days before this started happening) to no avail.

I have no idea what caused this as I did not install or change anything on the computer, or install any updates to bring this on. I only use the laptop for the internet really, no heavy use or messing around.

I tried googling the problem and it was suggested to replace the avrt.dll file, however, when I get an access denied messager when I try to change permissions to system32 so can't get in to replace the corrupted file.

Any ideas?
Would be VERY appreciated

thx

A:the audio service is not running - no sound, avrt.dll error?

I've been looking into this a bit more.

The audio relies on three other services, one of which is the Multimedia Class Scheduler which is not running. When I try to it it attempts to start but then I get an error message which says

Error193: 0xc1

Currently I'm running sfc/scannow from command prompt to see if anything is broken.

Any input still greatly appreciated - I can't live without sound on my laptop!!!

Hello, I have been having problems with Windows 7 explorer constantly crashing and restarting whenever I right-click on or open any files and folders, search in the Start Menu search box, opening My Computer, Control Panel, etc. In essence, it is limiting most of the interface. I was able to pinpoint the problem using Safe Mode and msconfig to the 'Power' service (C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe ?k DcomLaunch). And once I disabled the 'Power' service, everything seems to be fixed.

However, disabling the 'Power' service will disable audio service for the system. To fix the audio service, I tried changing the Power management, reverting back to previous restore points, updating the audio device drivers, trying to enable the Windows services in services.msc for 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)', 'Plug and Play', 'Multimedia Class Scheduler', 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder' and 'Windows Audio' to activate sound again, but 'Window Audio' depends on 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder', but 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder' seems to depends on the 'Power' service. And I can?t activate the ?Power? service again without crashing Windows explorer. How do I go about fixing this issue? Can I replace the ?Power? service files? Or update them? My issue started a day or two ago when I installed a windows update. I go to watch something the next day, and no sound is coming from the computer. I double check the connections, update the drivers and still get nothing. I look around online and most people who have had similar issues had windows 7, so the fixes haven't been too useful. I tried opening the services menu and restarting the windows audio service. That didn't work, so then I check the dependencies. Only 3 were listed, and it looks like the one giving me problems is "Multimedia class scheduler". It won't re-start, and gives me an error message that says "The system cannot find the file specified." I figured this meant I had some sort of corrupted file, so I brought up the command prompt menu and ran both sfc /scannow as well as dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. SFC found nothing. DISM found a corruption, but "fixed" it. I have restarted and still do not have sound. I tried Microsoft support, and they just ran a few automatic troubleshooters that did basically nothing, and told me to "take it to a local technician". It's my impression that the problem must be with windows, as it started right after an update and there is a specific file (multimedia class scheduler) that can't be found. Did you try restoring system to earlier time ? You can also uninstall update that made the problem.

They  were in the Alienware Audio screen where it says Maxx Audio Pro. There used to be an equalizer, and all kinds of different sound settings, like rock, pop etc etc. I haven't messed with it since I got the computer a year or so ago. I wanted to change the sound profile and it's missing!   No luck trying to find drivers

Alright, so posting here was a last resort. I've tried Google so many times today, learning a bit in the process. What has happened is that when I first started up my laptop this morning, it seems the audio is disabled. Along with this, the wireless connection is also disabled. Windows attempts to fix both of these problems, but only fixes the wireless. I've restarted multiple times to no avail, and each time, the wireless connection must be fixed by Windows. I've had this laptop for about a month, nothing has ever gone wrong.

I'm not sure if it's related, but when I go on Youtube, every video I attempt to watch stutters around for the first few seconds and/or goes directly to an error screen. I'm sure this has to be something with flash or something in general, considering it just started occurring with these other problems. I'm hoping I won't have to backup files and restore the laptop to the factory default, I was an idiot and deleted the only system restore point I had from a few days ago. I completely forgot system restore points only effect installed programs and Windows files.

Here is some more specific information towards my audio problem -

This is what happens when I attempt to start Windows Audio in Services.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to place this thread, I wasn't sure if it should go in audio, considering I have some other problems that came along with this.

"Windows will not start the Windows Audio Service on local computer. ERROR 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion". (Complete with little red X on task bar speaker icon) Googling has revealed this a common occurrence and apparently quite fixable - I appear to be an exception. So far I've compared my and my wife's registry entries (same OS) HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AudioSrv\DependOnService\multi-string 'AudioEndpointBuilder:RcpSs:MMCSS'. Checked 'msconfig' and MULTIMEDIACLASSSCHEDULER is running. In 'services.msc' WINDOWSAUDIOENDPOINTBUILDER is running but WINDOWSAUDIO is NOT. An attempt to start results in the message above. My external audio devices are good to the computer and I have the latest driver. Ran CHKDSK and SCANNOW.

A:Win 7 - "Audio Service is not running"

Do you have any other audio devices running or run at startup? Have you run any registry programs (including the one in CCleaner)?

I assume this used to work??

My recording studio backup system is an ASUS P8Z77 LE Plus motherboard with an i5.

What "external audio devices" do you have?

I have more questions, than I have answers right now.

Hello,
I resently dowloaded several windows updates as well as scanned my harddrive for errors all at once, then the next time I restart my computer, my sound is completely gone with a red x on the speaker in the system tray. If I look at audio in services It is not started and when I try it says "error 1079 the account specified for this service is different from the account spesified for other servies running in the same process.

Specs:
Vista 32 bit
