windows audio: error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has

Q: windows audio: error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has

i have been fighting with this problem for ages.
my sound does not work, i dont know why, as far as i know, nothing was added before this started, everything was working, i got up the next day and there was no audio, it no longer registers my disc drive as being there, and i cant play an videos from youtube (other sites fine, though still no audio)
laptop tells me, theres no audio installed, but all drivers state everything present. tried on here before but with no luck

heres a run down from my last post:

i have no audio. if i click troubleshoot problems it says the audio service is not running
it says the windows audio and endpoint builder arent working
if i go into services, windows audio is set to automatic but its not on, when i click start it says "error:1075 the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion"

medion akoya e6214 notebook
windows 7 64 bit sp1 home premium edition
intel core i3cpu [email protected]
4gb memory
2 ram i think
also, i have no system restore points, the windows repair disc doesnt work and i have no windows 7 install disc and cant burn one as my disc drive wont register

i have installed drivers for medion akoya as instructed but it did nothing

windows audio still states its not working, when i go to services, its set to automatic but wont stay on and i get the above error message!

im at my wits end, i cant back up anything so i dont lose it, cant restore, or repair, sfc scannow says i cant do it unless im admin but theres only me registered on system!
i do not have win7 install disc (but if i did my drive not there)

grrrr should i just bin the damn thing?

A: windows audio: error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has

From your description there are many more problems than just the windows audio error.

I would suspect an Operating System problem. If you can find a friend to download the Windows 7 Home Premium ISO and burn it to a DVD, that would give you the needed disc to try and repair Windows. Although your DVD drive does not work in Windows, it should work for booting.

Here is the link to the forum post. There are links to the various versions. You can download the same version that you have.

Apparently something called print spooling is not working on my computer. I get error message 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. I believe this is why the installation won't go all the way to the end. The computer recognizes the printer but won't go ahead and finish installing it. Anybody got any suggestions?

Hello, lets do some cleaning up and see if that helps you out .
How to Flush DNS in Windows Using the Command Prompt

Step 1 ? Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.

Step 2 ? Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the ?Start? menu and then go all programs, accessories, then right click command and run as admin.

Step 3 ? At the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? followed by pressing the ?enter? key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: ?Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.? Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

Then , we want to get the IP reset, so, lets renew its settings and see if this also helps out :
you will type in the command box : ipconfig /release then enter, then next ipconfig /renew then enter, this will reset the IP , now restart and attempt to have it reconfigure its connections to your router. Post back results please.

Let me try to give as much info as I can to start. Running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate have all updates as of 01-16-2012. Recently had some malware that I removed not sure if there is a correlation. I am trying to connect my wireless connection on my pc to a router to run xbox and BD player. So I connect to my wireless network have my network card plugged into my router, connected to both networks. I go to properties on wireless connection click sharing tab check allow other network users to connect to the internet through this computer connection, also checked allow other network users to control or disable the shared internet connection. I click ok and get a error window that says in the title bar Network Connections the body of the window says, "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. I looked through services and device manager in non pnp drivers everything looks right to me... I am not super familiar with networking issues so I may have missed or overlooked something easily. Searched the internet for answers could not find anything that would resolve my issue. So I am posting here for some help resolving this issue. Help would be appreciated thanks in advance!

I am attempting to the load the software for a Canon Mx850 printer to my Lenovo PC with Windows Vista.

I get the message Print Spooler Service has been stopped. I have checked in the services area and it is set to automatic. When I attempt to start it. I get the following Error: 1068 dependency service or group failed to start.

I have gone to the command prompt and typed the following: sc config spooler depend= RPCSS however I get message access denied. I am set as the system administrator. Not sure what to do at this point. Very frustrating. Printer works fine when connected to laptop. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Print Spooler Service stopped Error 1068 dependency service or group failed to start

Double click on the Print Spooler service to open its Properties. On the Dependencies tab see upon what it depends, and trace back to see if the cause/fix can be determined. Caveat: no guarantee this will work any better than your command attempt.

Hey all!
I am really desperate. I've tried a few things that other people have posted here, especially Cookiegal and Lumpola but this issue persists.

I had a virus. I think I got rid of it. Avast scans and boot time scans and Super Anti Spyware and TDSS killer report all clear. However, the network shield of Avast and the Internet don't work.
Points to note:
1. In services, the DHCP and DNS cannot be started. I get the error 1075: service has been marked for deletion or one of it's dependancies are missing. (close to that)

I've checked the dependancies of both, and reinstated the ADF module in device manager after selecting the 'View Hidden' option.

A:DHCP Server Service -Error 1075 - not starting

2. I've tried deleting the winsock and winsock2 entries in the registry.
3. From the command prompt, SFC/scan now terminates at 82%. thrice.
4. I can see the network, both wired and wireless, I can connect, but it says I have limited connectivity.

Hello,

On July 12th 2012, my computer installed updates. After rebooting and waiting for me on the login screen, I gave it a hard shutdown to check on the BIOS settings (for a little side project, in the end I did not save any changes). After booting and logging in again, I find that many services are not running. I ran a very thorough check for malware and viruses (took over 24 hours to complete), and still no solutions. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Driver several times.
I now look in the Event Viewer and find that the DHCP Client service is not running! It is set to automatic start in Services.msc, but when I try to manually start it, it gives me error 1075 (some dependencies do not exist or are marked for deletion). Running ipconfig, I notice that my system is using an APIPA-formatted address (169.254.x.x), indicating that the computer couldn't find a DHCP server.

Greetings: I re-installed a printer (Dell 1210 All in One) on an old DELL pc, Windows XP, and cannot get it to install/print. It previously worked with this PC, but it reinstalled itself every time I booted the computer. (When paired with my acer laptop using Windows 7, all functions, including printing, work.) It will copy and scan with the DELL pc. I received the above message: "Could not start the print spooler service on local computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start." I obviously do not know much about computers, but am trying to learn some things by working with/on this old pc. Thanks for any help!

A:Error 1068: The dependency service...

1) Did you install the printer driver and did it install correctly? If not, go to the Dell Website and download and install the correct driver.

2) Go to START - RUN and type services.msc (then press enter). Locate the Print Spooler service and double click on the entry. Click on the "dependencies" tab. Now locate the services listed in the dependencies tab and see if they are running. If not, try to start them (if they are set to "disabled" you should change the setting to "manual" or "automatic"). Now try to start the Print Spooler Service.

Please report back.

Two days ago, I had to configure my PC to my college domain so as to access the on-campus network access. The configuration was successful but on opening network and sharing center, I find "Dependency service or group failed to start" error message in place of the connected network name. Oddly, this error is not interfering with my internet connection whether on-campus or off-campus. Now, if I had to manually enter an IP address, I have to go all the way through "Change adapter settings option" and select properties from my WiFi name. I could not find any fix to the issue. Please help.

Hello everyone! I finally got a new laptop after almost a year of struggling with my old one. I've had experience with using homegroup in the past and was thinking maybe I could access some of my files on my old laptop through that so I don't have to go through the trouble of manually tansferring everything via flash drive and what not.
I seem to be running into a problem though, my old laptop seems to be in its own homegroup I guess. Whenever I try to leave it, it says "windows cannot remove the computer from the homegroup". I researched the problem, and used the troubleshooter which said that the homegroup provider service wasn't started and it couldn't be fixed automatically. I tried restarting starting the service but got that error 1608 thing. To bypass this I've tried joining whichever group my old laptop is in, but it can't seem to be found even though the two are both on the same wifi/network. What can I do?
Thanks in advance!
If it matters, the new laptop is windows 8 and the one I'm having trouble with is windows 7.

Alright in the last few weeks, this error has happened. When I go to control panel-->Security center, it sais it is not running and I need to enable it. When I go to services.msc, and try to enable it and my (Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)) it gives me this error.

Cannot do this action on this local machine.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

I tryed going to registry making a new key, named Security Center and a new DWORD and changing the value to 1. This did not work. Then I tryed enabling all the services that needed that one to run. Everyone I could enable accept one process, which gave me another error 1717.

Also under ALL my services, when I go to Properties--> the 4th tab "Dependancies" It gives me a Win32 error, which might be part of the problem.

But basically, obviously whoever knows how to fix this needs to know alot. =p I've been dinking around googling it, but no luck.

Anyways until I get this fixed, I dont have my secrutiy center running or a Firewall. (Windows XP built in firewal) which is my main concern, becasue I need my firewall.

So yea, Thanks in advance and I'll continue to research this topic.

Cheers,
Dane

I took this Gateway running Vista Home Premium to Staples. Cost me $70 to do a scan and they could not clean it up with their virus remover.  it seems to be getting worse.  Can't access the internet, any of the systems tools, device manager won't come up.  I tried working in safe mode, but now it's blocking access to that with a blinking cursor and beeps after I continue to press F8.  Now it goes to a blinking cursor if I put in a jump drive.  I just want to get some documents and pictures off the hard drive and be done with it.  I tried bringing up the bios and resetting it so I could boot from another drive, but it just brings up a blinking, cursor and beeps when I push F8.  I just got it to boot up after I took out the jump drive.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello there,
I am a Systems Engineer trying to find a fix for the 1068 error: the dependency service or group failed to start

I have looked at all the forums and previous posts with people having similar issues but none of the fixes have worked.
Resetting the TCP/IP stack has not fixed this issue & neither has system restore.

My issue has happened on 3 machines and the only connection I can find is when you connect Windows 7 Professional to a Widows 2003 Domain.

There seems to be little documentation on weather you need to upgrade the domain controllers from 2003 to 2008 before attempting to add Windows 7 into the domain.

The corruption seems to start once the machine is on the domain and Windows attempts to install any program or run windows updates which is becoming very frustrating.

I have created multiple hard drive clones so i can revert back to a working state to aid me when trying to work around this.

With these Issues outstanding I can not think about upgrading the network from XP & 2003 until these issues are fixed.

Can someone else let me know if they have had a similar problem when trying to upgrade there environment to Windows 7 and server 2008

Regards

Anton James

A:Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. - Buisness Enviroment

Hi Anton,

Did Windows 7 joined the domain? Have you narrowed down which service failed with error 1068? The error code indicates one service's dependency service or system component
fails to start.

I suggest checking the following services first.

Check service
----------------------
1. Click Start, type Services.msc in Start Search bar, and then press Enter.

2. In the right pane, double-click Microsoft Network Inspection.
3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, click Apply, click Start, and then click OK.

4. Also check the following services.

Function Discovery Resource Publication
Desktop Window Manager Session Manager
Network Connections
Network List Service
Network Location Awareness
Network Store Interface Service
Server
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

If you find any service cannot be started with the error, please let me know the service name and error exactly.

In addition, since the issue is related to Server. I also suggest confirming the issue with Server side.

I use my computer for everything, from work to play and to have her not be able to connect to the internet is frustrating me. This is the first time I've had a problem such as this and though i'm pretty good at fixing problems on my own the solution has surpassed my expertise. I'm going to give a quick history so that you can get a feel for what may be happening. She is a relatively new home built system, running windows vista ultimate 64 bit edition. The problem started the other day when I removed my wireless adapter from its PCI slot Trendnet TEW-423 and replaced it with a friends Linksys WMP110 at the time I was not using the Trendnet adapter it was disabled in windows and I was planning on removing it completely from my system. I was temporarily using at the time a Linksys Compact Wireless G USB Adapter which had been working fine but I was seeking on a quicker connection and that is where the problem started. When I started my system up with the new hardware the Linksys WMP110 and using the USB adapter to download the updated drivers from the Linksys site. After downloading and running the driver software to install the Linksys WMP110 the system froze and I had to hold down the power button to shut my machine down. When I restarted with the card still in, it was still freezing after a few minutes of running and I immediately removed the card which fixed the freezing problem but now with just the USB adapter installed it has a new problem. Hi,

I am experiencing an interesting problem with system resources in Windows XP which, quite frankly, is driving me mad!!!

I leave my PC on for days and lately, after being on for about a day it would give me an error:
"insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" when I try to open any program such as Mozilla firefox, iTunes, etc... My whole computer becomes useless as nothing seems to work, not even task manager. The only thing I can do is reboot, and the whole thing happens again after being on for a certain amount of time.

My computer specs: 3.2 ghz, 2 X 160 GB SATA in RAID 0 (1 newly installed), 1gb of RAM, Dell Dimension 8400.
I have enough memory, so I don't know what's up. I scanned my computer already and nothing comes up.

I'm getting so frustrated having to reboot, and coming back after a long day and finding my computer completely unfunctional.

Can someone please help me?

I have a Samsung R509 Laptop.

Recently the Windows Audio service has stopped running and when clicking the audio icon a troubleshooting window just opens which says it cannot fix the problem.

I have tried several fixes such as the MSISERVER cmd fix, all to not avail.

When I go in to services and try and run either Windows Audio or Windows Audio End Point I get this error.

Hello alexfer and welcome to Seven Forums. Sorry you're having these issues.

You might want to read through this Microsoft article and follow the suggetions given.

No sound in Windows

Microsoft also has another article, "Tips for fixing common sound problems". There's a Fix it" button but use caution before using it. The article was originally prepared for Vista and should work for Windows 7 but I'd create a System Restore point just in case.

Some other things that could affect your audio include which antivirus you're using, any recent Windows Updates, and malware. You could also try running a full scan with Free Malwarebytes. It picks up things other products miss. Update the database before running.

I have recently installed Windows 7 on my new computer. My sound drivers are all up to date, and the Device Manager knows they are there and working. However, the Volume Adjuster has the speaker with the red and white cross, and when the audio troubleshooter pops up, it does nothing to fix the problem, just acknowledges that there is one...

So, I looked up solutions, and was told to enable the Windows Audio service. I tried, and got a 1067 Error (Unexpectedly terminated). I have started, and successfully run, all of the dependencies, yet Windows Audio still won't run. I ran the 'sfc /scannow' as I was told that might work, but no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled my audio driver numerous amounts of times, still no luck. I'm running out of options, so I came here.

Please, any help would be appreciated.

Hello! This is my first time asking for help; thank you for your time.

I have an Asus N550JV laptop with windows 8. It has been working great the last year, but after a recent windows update, my audio completely stopped working. After running the troubleshooter, it stated the following:

One or more audio service isn't running
Not fixed

Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running.

After doing some research, I was able to view the local services running on my laptop. I found that Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is running, but Windows Audio is not. When trying to start Windows Audio, I got the following messgae:

Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

How do I get my audio back? I have Online Lectures I need to watch for school, so any help would be great! Thank you for your time

A:Windows Audio Service will not start, error 1067

Do you have a System Restore point that is BEFORE the last update?

Sadly, you may have to do a reinstall or if you have a backup a restore from the backup. My Windows 8.1 was corrupted by the last update (my suspicion). Fortunately I had a recent full backup and restored from the backup.

In the tray at the bottom right of the screen where the wireless signal strength indicator thingy sits I now have a blue circle. Sometimes I get an orange star where there used to be a white histogram.

The computer still connects to the Internet but if I right click on the icon the icon will change to a plug and a red cross.

If I open Network and Sharing Centre I see the message in the title to this post.

As I type I now have "Not connected - Connections are available" in a box above the tray but I AM still connected.

I'm really beginning to hate Windows 7.

Does anyone know of a simple fix? I'd appreciate help as this is driving me nuts!

Sounds similar to, and as mysterious as, this problem.

So, my brilliant suggestion is to shut down the PC and then boot again. If that doesn't work then leave it shut down over night.

I have been getting the following errors when I try to log into my account.

The system event notification service service failed the logon an attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist

I created a built-in-administrator and I am able to get into safe mode though not able to run many programs on it such as control panel and start up repair. I looked at my registry and both of my accounts look fine neither of them had a .bak on the end and so I'm not sure how to fix this if my only option is to delete my user account. I've already done a system restore to a couple days before this happened but, I'm still locked out of everything.

Is there anything else I can do that might help?

A:The system event notification service service failed logon ... token does not exist

Google led me to this post as I was researching the problem myself. I encountered the same issue. In this case on a vista32 ultimate box (although I do own an x64 box in case somebody thinks I'm blasphemous posting here ).

I haven't completely fixed the issue yet but I've gotten a bit further so in hopes of helping the next person here are the steps I've taken.

I was able to log in successfully in safe mode (hit F8 while starting up, select safe mode). Once there I went to command prompt (click the start button, type "cmd" [without the quotes] in the search bar and hit enter. From command prompt type services.msc to launch the services control panel. Find the System Event Notification Service, right click, select properties, change it from automatic startup to disabled, apply the change and "OK" out of the dialog box. You can now restart the computer and log in normally.

This isn't really a fix, it's a temporary work-around. SENS is needed for COM+ to respond to things like login and startup events. I've also noticed that my system is very slow right now. My next step is to find a way to generate a new token for SENS and then hopefully I'll be back at 100%. I currently have Dell researching that for me (this happens to be a Dell laptop). If I get a solution short of a reinstall to that one I'll post it too.

Hope this is helpful for someone. Good luck.

Is there any known issues with a Windows Hotfix that would cause all these services to crap out like that? I can't see the windows update history either as all that pops up is a white screen. Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

When I attempt to open "cmd" using "Run as administrator" I am getting the following error:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe
The dependency service or group failed to start.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Maro

A:Dependency or service failed to start.

AFAIK - cmd.exe has the following dependencies:

msvcrt.dll
KERNEL32.dll
USER32.dll

Have you tried running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW?

Quote:

SFC.EXE /SCANNOW
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the search box, right click on the cmd.exe and select "Run as adminstrator"
In the black window that opens, type "SFC.EXE /SCANNOW" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Let the program run and post back what it says when it's done.

If that doesn't fix it, then I'd suggest trying one of these free antimalware scans: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners

I tried troubleshooting it but it said that it can't do it because the Network Diagnostic Policy hasn't been started and when I try to start it I get another error message saying "error 1114, dynamic link library unable to initialize",
I've tried both "netsg winsock reset" and "scf/ scannow" but neither worked.

Hi
I have a HP Pavilion g6 laptop and last night, after restarting it when the screen froze, it claimed that "no connections are available" when it was connected only minutes ago. I opened the Network and Sharing Center and where the Network Map should be, it says 'unknown' with the words "the dependency service or group failed to start" underneath. I've resulted to using my IPhone to find solutions and I followed a thread on this website that spoke of my same problem but midway through I got stuck once again. I've done the sfc /scannow on the command prompt and it found no problems or violations. I've noticed that a number of the services listed in that thread have stopped and it won't allow me to start them. Since that thread is pretty old I'm creating my own. A:Dependency service group failed to start

There's a couple of things that you can try and both are done as an administrator from the cmd prompt pressing Enter after each.

Go Start - All Programs - Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

First one - type -

netsh winsock reset catalog

exit

Reboot computer.

This is Jenae's workaround which has also proven successful -

net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice

net localgroup Administrators /add localservice

exit

Reboot computer and let us know how you get on.

Hi guys,

Hopefully one of you can help me.

Was playing a game yesterday, and it froze on me and I had to do a hard reboot. Afterwards, I noticed a big red X through my network icon. Hovering over it, it tells me 'dependency service or group failed to start' and when I try to diagnose it, it tells me there is no network adapter installed or configured. It basically acts like no network is there at all. Now it seems after hours of googling and reading a ton of forums that this is a pretty common issue, with a bunch of suggested fixes: I've tried all I can find, and none seem to work! =(

I'm running Vista Home Premium, and so far I've tried:

*Running virus scans

*Using system restore to return to an earlier point.

*Installing SP2

*Going into command and doing 'netsh winsock reset' and 'netsh int ip reset' The first seems to work, but the 2nd tells me 'There's no user specified settings to be reset'

*Going into command and doing 'sfc /scannow' Which finds errors but doesn't fix them.

*Replacing nlasvc.dll in system32

*Doing some registry edit involving Spooler

*Reinstalling network card

*Buying entirely new network card

*And a bunch of other small things I can't remember

yesterday my computer blue screened. nothing out of the ordinary. a month ago I reinstalled my os because my laptop would crash every few hours. reinstall foxed the provlem but I still crash here and there. so the bluescreen auto restarts my computer after the memory dump or whatever and then crashes again while windows is starting. this has happened before so I restart, boot as normal, same thing. then I try starting in safe mode because that wprked last time this happened. crash while it is starting. try again, same thing. then I tried startup recovery and it freezes during that. I gave up after this and turned my laptop off for about 30 minutes while I went to eat my feelings. I come back, turn it on, and it works. the only problem is the wifi no lpnger works. I put on a movie and went tp bed because I was tired, sort of hoping that the prpblem would fix itself. it didn't. I can see the networks in the list and I have connected to mine but it says limited access. in metwork and sharing it says unknown where the little map would usually be and under that it says dependency service or groupfailed to start. I've gone to several different threads on here and nothing helped so I decided to make my own.

If you are receiving the notification: Connection status: Unknown Dependency service or group failed to start; and you are running Vista and using Trend Micro for virus protection, then a fix is available for your problem. The problem is that Trend Micro mistakenly identified a Windows service, Network Location Awareness service, as a virus and altered the service to protect the system. Well, I'm currently on another computer trying to fix my laptop. I can't use system restore to solve the problem because it won't complete. I've run system scans and there's no corrupt system files as far as windows can tell.

So the network and sharing center (basic network and set up connections) shows up as unknown the dependency service or group failed to start! That and my wired and wireless internet doesn't work. SSID of different networks will show up, but connecting to any one I own or can access will show limited connectivity.

But connecting it directly to my Western myBook (which uses gigabit connection) works, so it doesn't seem to be any hardware problems.
This all happened after I went far away to visit family and friends in a different country and plugged in a really sketchy looking network wire. That and ISATAP adapter #3 popped up ever since I had this problem. never saw it in device manager before this happened.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

A:The Dependency service or group failed to start!

Hey,
I was going to make a new thread for this, but I might as well post it here. I recently serviced a computer with the Interpol/Moneygram virus on it (some new version which packs a bit of a bite, let me tell you). Anyways, After scanning, removing, repairing, updating, etc, I still could not get the WiFi to work. The problem was that dozens and dozens of Windows services had been disabled. I eventually just broke down and did a system restore, which fixed everything, but I still have this one question: Since I was able to get Ethernet LAN working, but no Internet access on the WLAN, what Windows service does WLAN depend on that Ethernet LAN does not?

Anyways, enough thread hijacking.

Here is a good start Kurohyou: Go to Start, then in the search box, type services. You should see it pop up. Once its open, find the services at the bottom called Wired Autoconfig and WLAN Autoconfig. Set them to Automatic startup, and start them each. In my case, this failed, and I received the same message as you, that "The dependency service or group failed to start" with error number 1058 or 1065 (I should know, ive been looking at it all day lol).

Anyways, when that happens, go to the tab of the service in question that says Dependencies. Expand the trees to view every service that this service depends upon. you will need to enable those services as well in order for that service to start. This will be a tedious process and by the end of it you will be a master of Windows s... Read more

Before you say search, I have looked almost everywhere for a solution!

Basically, last night my internet auto shut-off because it ran out of battery. Didn't give me a warning or anything, just turned off. So I turned it back on automatically and then it started BSODing. So I thought I'll leave it and just sort out it in the morning.

I then started getting the error of the "Remote Procedure Call" and then it wanting to restart. I did all the workarounds so now I can fully access my computer. BUT, when I try to go to System Restore, I can pick my Restore Point, but when it gives the warning about shutting down all other programs, it just sits there. I click next several times but it stays the same.

For some reason, I can't connect to the internet, either. I think my Drivers are disabled so I try go to services.msc and enabling them, but I get the error: "The dependency group or service failed to start" or something about Plug n Play. I then try to enable plug and play but I get info that "the file specified could not be found". The file it's trying to find is vrt11.tmp which is apparently a virus according to the net.

I've been at this prob for ages and I have no idea what to do... any help?

sounds like you are using a laptop.....at this point you might consider reloading Windows XP or try doing a xp recovery ..assuming you have the restore CD.
if you reload xp you will lose all your data files so you should save them to a CD or to an external harddrive before reloading Windows xp.

I'm running Windows XP x64 SP2, and things have been running swimmingly up until recently when I decided to update my Avast installation to the 2014 version. The background service for it refuses to start due to a service dependency. A while back I disabled a bunch of services with the aid of these configs from BlackViper to increase performance and decrease resource usage. I also made a few tweaks of my own that weren't in the guide. Anyway, the point is, I disabled some service that Avast 2014 requires, and I need to figure out which one it is so I can re-enable it. I even set all of my disabled services to "manual" in the hopes that the service I needed would be triggered by the Avast service, but this was to no avail.
Anyhow, here's my list of services. I hope the editing on it is alright, since I had to realign and clean up some of the text.

Hi All
Was going to ask for advice to help me instal SP1 prior to upgrading to Win 7 but now I have another, more pressing problem.

In attempting the various workarounds for SP1 I ran SFC/scnow and Chkdsk. When I ran the latter it identified various errors on the disk that it couldn't fix and suggested using the f fixit function which I duly did.

After restarting I found that I had lost internetaccess. When you hover over the icon you get the message above. I've done some research and tried running the Netsh Winsock Reset line at the command prompt but to no joy. I've also tried systemrestore but when I try this I am told that there are no retore points!

I've checked the newtork drivers in Device Manager but I think they're fine (Intel 82566DC-2).

Sorry this is so long but you can probably tell I'm desperate. I'm only able to use the net as I dual boot and thankfully good ole XP is working fine as usual.
I'd really appreciate any advice or fixes for this.

I wonder if I've trashed my TCP/IP settings how do I reset them without reinstalling Vista?

Many thanks

Simon

Hi
Update. Tried Netsh malarkey again to reset "stack" but no good.
Also tried repair on Vista CD but no good.

Unable to try repair by pressing F8 as I'm asked for password which I don't know and didn't create.

I just can't conceive how such a catastrophic failure can have occurred when only using Windows tools!

I am having this problem and it started one day when I booted up my PC. I tried resetting the router, modem, a new cable, using netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries), netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)
and none of it has helped. I have updated all the drivers for my motherboard, which is a gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P. On the lan connections I am getting a solid orange light,1000ms connection, and a flashing yellow light which means data is being received and sending (This is in the manual). I have used the program, Realtek-Ethernet Diagnostic Utility which gives me some information that I put as attachments, I'm not sure how to post SS's when the insert picture button ask for a URL. I also posted the Ipconfig which brought back some weird results. I am not sure where to go from here and any help would be great.

Have you tried restoring to a previous point before you started having these problems?

Hi

Like many I'm trying to upgrade Vista to Windows 7. I ran the Win 7 system readiness tool and the only thing outstanding was SP1. In common with many I could not instal SP1. I tried all the fixes including Chkdsk and SFC Scanow etc and the result is that I have no internet access with the above message next to the network icon.

I've tried restting the TCP/IP stack in a command window (restore .net...winsock..) but still the same message. I understand it could be due to a corrupt file in the sytem 32 folder and there is a fix involving taking ownership and deleting that. Has anyone tried that?

Is there anything else I can try to get internet back short of a clean instal?

Many thanks

Hi all,

Dont know where to start with this one.

A mate asked me to have a look at his laptop (HP dv4-1000ea) which is getting the following message 'Dependency service or group failed to start'.

I ran a scan for viruses and spyware etc using superantispyware and malwarebytes and found a few which have been taken off successfully.

Now the message is still there, it will not allow me to connect to the internet.

Also, i don't know whether this has anything to do with it or not, i can't do a system restore to an earlier point, as i was told to try this.

I have tried the sfc /scannow option from cmd, but that comes back with no errors.

Anyone got any ideas of which way i have to go with this, any ideas would be very helpfull.

I have a HP Pavilion a6400f desktop running Vista Home Premium and IE7 as browser.
After a blue screen crash, the system recover itself, but has since then been unable to connect to the internet or to my network. I get the red X in the lower right side corner of the screen. When I point to it says "Connection status: unknown
the dependency service or group fail to start."
When I click Diagnose and repair, a window comes up saying "network diagnostics cannot run because the diagnostics Policy service is not running."
Then, I opened the service control Manager and try to start the DPS manually, but i get Windows could not start the service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied.
I've tried several fixes posted on this and other forums, but without luck, so any new ideas will be very appreciated.

i am facing this problem for a couple of weeks . when i try to connect to the internet using wi-fi, it says limited access. on opening network and sharing center, under the "View your basic network information and set up connections" heading, it says "unknown", where it used to show the network map before this problem happened, and underneath that it says "The dependency service or group failed to start".

any idea on whats going on

Thanx in advance.

A:the dependency service or group failed to start

From what I read about this problem it seems that a corrupted TCP/ip stack may be involved.

Try running this batch file which will reset winsock, reset the TCP/IP stack and release renew your IP.

Download Renew IP + Reset Winsock Batch File

If that doesn't fix the problem please post a screen shot of your ipconfig /all .

Hello, I've had a similar problem to the one mentioned in this thread- http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/199125-solved-specified-service-does-not.html

I managed to find the proper key, however, there was no LowerFilters there.

The list of items there is:
(Default)
Class
Icon
Installer32
NoInstallClass
SilentInstall
TroubleShooter-0
UpperFilters

I am using Windows XP SP3, if that helps.

Thanks in advance, Raz.

Hiya.

I am typing this from my laptop using wifi at the same home that my PC is having trouble identifying a network. It has a pop up for turning on windows firewall, when I try that, it says "action center can't turn on windows firewall", trying to turn it on manually runs me in circles. When I hit use recommended settings, it tells me it can not change some of my settings. Error code 0x8007042c.

In my network and sharing center, it can not identify a network. It says "dependency service or group failed to start".

I have to run right now. If anybody needs any more information, please tell me what I need to do and I should post back tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I'd love if anyone could contribute!

Thanks a lot,
Nick

Hi there,

This morning I turned on my PC, which was functioning perfectly fine the day before, and saw it had a red 'X' on the network connection. The Network & Sharing center said 'The dependency service or group failed to start'".

At this point I uninstalled the last program I installed, bitcasa, especially since it was network attached storage in the cloud, so I assumed it could be causing problems. After a reboot, that didn't help.

I went into services.msc and tried to manually start the 'Network List Service', but it threw up the same error, with the code 1068. I tried to start some of the services that it depends on, I think it was the DHCP something, but it said "Error 5: Access Denied".
Furthermore, I did some basic troubleshooting stuff which I will cover below and was hit with the error message "The diagnostics policy service is not running'.

Here's stuff I tried:
Malwarebytes scan (was clean)
Basic troubleshooting (was useless)
Uninstalled bitcasa
Rebooted
SFC Scan (came back fine)

So, have you any idea what I can do to fix this? Here's a list of things I have compiled that I will attempt when I get home:

-Safe mode with networking
-Uninstall one other suspect program
-Turn on all services related to networking (or at least attempt to)
-Re-install motherboard network adaptors / drivers

Thanks in advance. I really need to solve this as quick as possible so unless you superstars have any awesome tricks that can fix this, I may just do ... Read more

A:Red 'X' Network - 'The dependency service or group failed to start'

Hi everyone,

I believe the issue is fixed. I did two things:

1) Typed the commands:
net localgroup administrators localservice /add
net localgroup administrators networkservice /add
exit

Then my internet was restored but the Firewall had been suspiciously disabled, and unable to start.

I ran ComboFix as suggested by other users. And voila, it would appear the internet works and the firewall is running.

Is there anyone that thinks all is not well still, and I should do something else?

Thanks.

First, I want to mention that this isn't a network problem like absolutely everyone else online. I get this error when trying to run most applications on my computer. Some get it when I run in administrator mode as well, such as the CMD. It doesn't happen right away, but when my PC is up for a undetermined amount of time, it triggers, and the following problems occur:

- Start menu may or may not respond to my actions (When the start menu is open)

- Adobe Plug-in crashes on Youtube after a 30-second wait.

- If I wait long enough explorer.exe will crash and I will be stuck using Alt-Tab and Task Manager.

I've run malware scans with Spybot, Anti-Malware Malware Bytes, and SUPERAntiSpyware free edition, so I am at a loss. If you guys know whats up or what I should do, then please reply. :)

A:[SOLVED] The dependency group or service failed to start

Hi, usually a permissions problem in the registry reads "local service not "NT authority/service" as far as we can determine the SID is changed from "current" this is difficult to sort. Firstly you need all updates installed. It has been possible in some instances to fix this by changing to a new user account OR by running a very complicated repair of permissions.

Now you might find this workaround will do it for you so try this first:-

Go to start ,all programs, accessories and right click on command prompt select "run as administrator" at the prompt:-

Code:
net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice
press enter then type:
net localgroup Administrators /add localservice
press enter then type:
exit
press enter and restart your computer
It is also some times necessary to "add the user" so

net localgroup administrators <my_user> /add

Note:- My user is Paul so the command is:-

net localgroup administrators Paul /add press enter.

Do not worry if it returns the user is already a member of this group.
Let us know how you get on.

Hello!!! I have recently been having issues with my PC, and after reading the forums, I decided it would be best if I made a thread. My issue is a bit complicated but can be explained. Basically, when I was cleaning old junk programs off my PC (iTunes, processor killers, etc.) that I no longer use, I ended up deciding AVG was a target for deletion, taking 25% of my CPU. However, during the uninstall, my power... went out... So, as you could guess, things went wrong from there. I quickly discovered programs wouldn't load or install, and after looking around, I found a folder in my system. $AVG. The vault was intact, along with leftovers of AVG in Program Files. I had to manually delete them. After that I installed Malware Bytes and Avast. I recovered a lot of my PC, but it still won't load programs. Here are it's specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, x64 (won't update)
PC: HP pavilion a1130n. 2 GB RAM and a GPU off Amazon (pretty sure the GPU is irrelevant and I don't feel like finding something irrelevant right now).

I have tried repairing it with an installation disc. Didn't work

What do I do now? It can boot anything in Safe Mode, but it can't install programs in Normal Mode. Internet works.

A:Having PC issues: The specified service does not exist as an installed service

Won't load programs, yet you somehow installed two programs?

Are you saying .exe files won't open? If yes, do this.

What do you mean by "wont update" on your OS?

Hello there,

Great website - just found it!

My problem: it seems similar to what has been discussed in the topic below: my anti-virus (McAffee) found this rootkit trojan, I thought it took care of it, but then upon restarting this morning my internet and wireless connections were gone, and I could not execute programs in normal mode - receiving this "specified service does not exist" message.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic464829.html

I tried to follow the guidance in the thread, but I am still stuck, so I guess I need some more detailed feedback. Status: I can only run some of the programs mentioned in SafeMode, where I also could briefly connect to internet, but it is all quite random. Normal mode is still pretty much frozen.

On Sony Vaio VPCM13 (Atom processor) - Windows 7 starter, 32-bit. See the DDS Log below; for GMER, unfortunately, I get the blue screen in Safe Mode (so I gave up) and I get the "specified service does not exist" in normal. I hope this still helps.

Many thanks in advance,
Dan.

The problem is that Trend Micro mistakenly identified a Windows service, Network Location Awareness service, as a virus and altered the service to protect the system. Hello, MicroSoft tech crew. I know my issue is not something new to you, there are earlier posts with similar to identical problems to mine. For a whole day I tried everything I could find on the internet to fix my issue, but nothing seemed to work.
I cannot connect to the internet. My network and sharing center displays the following, instead of the map:
Unknown
The dependency service or group failed to start.

I am running windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
I used ESET NOD32 as antivirus. I uninstalled it the day this issue appeared.
I have no restore point.
Any other computer or device can successfully connect to my router.
Re-installing a fresh copy of windows is not an option.

These are the solutions I tried and didn't work:

I tried restarting the router (1 minute power-off)
I HAVE reinstalled my drivers for both LAN and WAN network cards at least twice each.
~ I  ran the following commands in CMD as administrator over 3 times, successfully, followed by reboot:
* sfc /scannow
* netsh winsock reset // netsh winsock reset catalog
* netsh int ip reset // netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

I have checked the following in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servicel\NlaSvc has always had full control and read permissions for both SYSTEM and Administrators.

Hi everyone!

I'm having a pretty big problem on my laptop- I can't connect to the internet and when I try to connect in the network and sharing centre it simply says 'The dependency service or group failed to start' and I am unable to connect to the internet (Using wi-fi).

There's a lot more to it than that though.

Simply put, here is a list of the problems I am facing:
1. Can't connect to the Internet
2. Cannot change theme, stuck in basic (Themes are grey and do not respond when I click on them in the control panel)
3. Overall brightness of laptop screen has decreased.
4. When opening my anti-virus software (avast) it says that the software is off and I should click the fix now button to turn it on. However, when I click on it nothing happens.

Please note that this problem occurred when I was messing around with command prompt ( I booted windows 7, pressed F8 and tried to check weather I could launch a USB program through safe mode- command prompt). I figured out I had no idea what the commands were and tried using one of the few commands I knew- ms config. I may have changed settings there and this could be how it happened, I'm not really sure.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds! (Keep in mind, I'm not very experienced with command prompt but have full knowledge of control panel options, computer, etc.)

Hello I just started having this problem. First off I own a dell xps 15 l502x.

It all happened after I unexpectedly shutdown the computer after having it on for almost 13 hours.
I turned my computer on, it booted up fine but I could not connect to any wifi network. Connecting with Ethernet did not help, a glance at device manager showed a yellow mark on the network adapter and isatap.
I decided to reinstall the wifi driver and now it connects to the wifi with limited access.
I could not get network diagnostic policy to run and trying from services to start it gives me an error 5 access denied.
In network and sharing it shows connection as unknown and the problem stated in the title.
So I do not believe it is a hardware issue, it must be software and has to be related to services because when i opened itunes, it asked me to self recover itunes service to sync. I also had to reinstall Norton because it was not starting.
I have no idea on how to fix this, can someone please help me on this dilemma. Thank You

Hi,

We have an HP computer with Windows 7 OS system installed on it.  The workstation is where our inventory and ID database resides.  We have a Kaspersky Anti -Virus installed.   It caught a trojan virus and deleted some files.  I have attached a screen shot of the events.

However, as it stands now the Network and Sharing Center in the computer is not able to view any basic network information  and has the message "unknown" .  In addition, it gives the error message  "Dependency service or group failed to start".    Can anyone please assist me with this problem?  Reformatting and reinstalling the computer is not an option.  Any help and guide is highly appreciated.

Hi fellow computer junkies. I can see a multitude of difficulties have been overcome by your group effort. I hope you've got another fix up your sleeves.

The first indication of a problem began with announcement that new hardware had been found. Knowing that I had installed nothing, I blocked the new hardware attempt to connect.

Next day 4/11/11 I found I could not reach the internet using T-mobile. Among other things Windows Defender and Firewall were not operating. I got a message "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to System Event Notification Service. This problem prevents limited users from logon on to the system. As an administrator user, you can review the system Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond." Of course upon investigating I found I could not open Event Notification log. Normally at a time like this I would reach for System Restore. But, I was informed no restore points were available. With help from Brother-in-law Larry and using desktop with the T-mobile connection I was able to get online to find t... Read more

Have you tried running MalwareBytes in safe mode? Do you have an antivirus on your computer? Sometimes Virus' know MBAM so you may want to change the name of the program before you run it.

Hello, I have been having problems with Windows 7 explorer constantly crashing and restarting whenever I right-click on or open any files and folders, search in the Start Menu search box, opening My Computer, Control Panel, etc. In essence, it is limiting most of the interface. I was able to pinpoint the problem using Safe Mode and msconfig to the 'Power' service (C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe ?k DcomLaunch). And once I disabled the 'Power' service, everything seems to be fixed.

However, disabling the 'Power' service will disable audio service for the system. To fix the audio service, I tried changing the Power management, reverting back to previous restore points, updating the audio device drivers, trying to enable the Windows services in services.msc for 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)', 'Plug and Play', 'Multimedia Class Scheduler', 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder' and 'Windows Audio' to activate sound again, but 'Window Audio' depends on 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder', but 'Windows Audio Endpoint Builder' seems to depends on the 'Power' service. And I can?t activate the ?Power? service again without crashing Windows explorer. How do I go about fixing this issue? Can I replace the ?Power? service files? Or update them? And help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Currently I have no administrator rights, no printers, no internet connection, no ability to modify McAfee installation or programs in any way, no USB devices are viewable (although i have worked around this somewhat). In safe mode, i can operate but still no internet and some programs will not run. Firewall wouldn't stay on to begin with, now virus scan is starting the same process - appears to be on but is off when you drill down. I have tried to uninstall McAfee but it will not allow me to.  Some of my programs are starting to take away my access - even in safe mode.  I am trying to figure out a way to transfer my files to a USB to save them in case of a reinstall but as of yet i can't find a way to mass copy them to the USB.

These are the steps I have already taken based on another forum I read - no luck:
1. rkill.exe
2. unhide.exe
3 dds.scr
4. tdsskiller.exe with mbam chameleon
5. erunt-setup.exe
6. aswMBR.exe
7. security check.exe
8. FSS.exe
9. ExeFix.reg
10. ComboFix.exe

I have logs for all that created logs from the steps above. ......  Below are the attach.text file, dds.text file and the combinfix results file.

I appreciate any help.

I have a Dell E520 Tower, Windows XP Pro on Service Pack 2.Have an HP Photosmart C7250 all in one printer / scan / fax. This printer was installed and working fine on an ethernet connection - connected to linksys router. PC is wirelessly connected to the router / internet from linksys wireless network adapter.I had to reinstall windows XP due to some corrupt system files.Went to reinstall the printer and when I go to select to install the printer on wireless / ethernet versus direct / USB cable, the installation fails, get an error message which exactly says "Error - specified service does not exist as an installed service".I have seen this error message in many forums, many possible solutions, but nothing seemingly directly related to a printer or this specific printer. If anyone can help me in identfying the cause and a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello All,
I am troubleshooting a laptop for a friend. It was infected with quite a few viruses/malware. I have run MSERT, TDSSKiller, and Advanced SystemCare. I believe the system is pretty much clean at this point, but a ZeroAccess type rootkit has disabled several services. How do I enable the services? It is only functional in SafeMode right now. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.

I am installing an HP Photosmart J6480 all in one and get the message The Specified Service does not exist as an installed service and the install fails. I googled the message and found numerous hits including a well docmented resolved thread on this forum. This is failing on an IBM Thinkpad running Windows XP. It worked correctly on one thinkpad and fails on another. I will list some differences in the registry that I compared: On the failing system I checked registry entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} There are no lower filters and two upper filters - Shockprf and Partmgr, the same is true for the working system. Here is a difference: For the failing system, under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Shockprf\Enum there are two entries, the first starts out with the characters IDE\DiskWDC_WD8000..... the second entry starts out with the characters UBSTOR\Disk&VEN_HP8Prod_Officejet_J6400REV....
For the working system, there is only one entry under Enum which starts out with characters IDE\DiskHITACHI..... not sure if this is relevant, please help.
