"Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" at Windows Startup

Q: "Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" at Windows Startup

Hello, this is my first post here on this forum.
About a week or two, I Downgraded my Computer (Dell l502x) from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits, installed the drivers from the Dell Page, and everything worked good, except for the Realtek HD Audio Driver Version 6.0.1.6312 (Recommended for my PC on Dell Website), This is the problem:
When I Start my computer, a message shows up with the following error: "Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" and then, I Have to close the message and open Realtek HD Audio Manager again from the Control Panel. I Have already tried re-installing Windows and the error keeps appearing After I Install that driver, I Was wondering if maybe that version of the driver is faulty or something (It would be weird, since it's the one Dell recommends for this computer on the page)
I Have visited many forums, including this one looking for a fix to this issue, but I have not found a solution yet. So I was wondering if someone had this issue before and has a solution to this annoying problem.
any Help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Here's a picture of the issue im having when I start Windows 7 (It's in Spanish, but I think you will understand it)

Try the R275 version on the RealTek site. Its the latest version and will work on your PC. When you run the Realtek installation the first thing it will do is uninstall the current version you have installed and then restart the PC. After the restart it will continue and install the R275 version. This is the version I have on all my PC's for both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8 64 bit.

Download the High Definition Audio Codec R.275 64 bit OS version.

Hello,

I'd be very glad if anyone could help me.

My OS version is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Whenever I try to run the task manager, either by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del and selecting it or right clicking on the task bar, the window opens but immediately an error is displayed "Windows Task Manager has stopped working... Windows is checking for a solution for this problem" followed by "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" (see attached screenshot). No solution is provided.

The computer is rather new (3 weeks old) and has very few programs installed. Since I don't use the task manager very often, I don't know when this problem started, but it wasn't there from the beginning.

Things I tried, but did not work:

- Going back to a previous restore point: same problem.

- Running a RAM memory test with memtest86, no problems found.

- Performing a clean boot using msconfig.exe and disabling all programs, with the exception of Microsoft services. The problem remained.

- Scanning the computer for virus and malware. Installed Malwarebytes, nothing found. Using Kaspersky anti-virus, no problems found.

- Using the system file checker tool. I used it twice and it did indeed find problems, but said it could not fix them.

The only thing that has changed is that the computer had 8gb RAM, but one of the cards was defective and was sent back to the manufacturer. My computer i... Read more

A noticeable change has occurred with my Vista recently. I keep getting this warning saying "Desktop Windows Manager has stopped working". I choose the option "Check online for a solution (recommended) each time and nothing happens or changes. It just says "Windows is checking for solutions. In another 5 or maybe 15 minutes, it'll happen again and I work that way all day long. The computer has also slowed down a lot in the last couple weeks. Problem details are listed below.

After updating yesterday, explorer.exe no longer starts correctly, either on startup or manually. A windows restore to before my latest updates fixes the problem, but installing the updates causes the problem again. I do want to keep the system up to date, so I figure I shouldn't just turn automatic updates off. Some notes:
I sit on the "Welcome" screen after logging in for longer than usual before getting to the desktop.
"Personalized Settings" seems to be what's causing the issue - this is the window that freezes.
I don't have a start bar.
Everything else works fine - I can launch programs through the command line or task manager, including windows explorer.
My wallpaper no longer loads - or, to be more precise, it's just a black color.
I have DisplayFusion installed, but I uninstalled it and this had no effect.
Here's a screenshot of the symptom along with my recent update history.

I'm not totally averse to reinstalling windows, but I do want to make sure the same thing doesn't just happen again. Anyone have ideas?

I'm not sure how or where to address this issue.
As of 4 days ago, I am randomly having a box pop up that says "Update Manager Has Stopped Working"
I've been able to use the Realtime Data through my Avast to find that it's C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\dw20.exe that is attempting to run, but apparently failing.
How can I fix this?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of the .NET framework, I've also attempted to use the .NET clean up tool, both to no avail.

A:.NET framework "Update Manager Has Stopped Working"

System restore shouldn't affect data. You can image before system restore so in case something goes wrong you can restore back. Anyway,

I have the same dw20.exe, I don't have office.

You can scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free if too concerned about an infection.

Found this:

Quote:
DW20.exe is an error-reporting application packed with Microsoft products such as Microsoft Office. Once installed, it collects information automatically when a Microsoft application unexpectedly quits, freeze or crashes; it then allows users to send the information to Microsoft for analysis. This report assists Microsoft in solving problems to improve future versions of the software. DW20.exe is not required for Microsoft programs to work and can be disabled and removed from startup to prevent it from running.

So I believe, you haven't found the failing application yet. You have to find which updater is failing.

Hi,

Today I'm suddenly having an issue with most games and some programs, basically they crash instantly, I get the error message "xxx has stopped working". I first noticed this with XBMC (Xbox Media Center), then I tried a few Steam games, I get the same error with: Batman Arkham Asylum, Batman Arkham City, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (although this gives no error just closes instantly no message or pop-up), Hard Reset.

The only thing I can think of which could be causing this is the Windows update I did today, but I didn't get any errors or anything..

I have been using the same HP Pavilion tx1000 for a year and a half with no software or compatibility issues. I run Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1 - 32 bit. Slowly this message began to appear with every microsoft program I opened and then started to spread to non microsoft programs. I tried reinstalling the programs, doing a system restore to the oldest restore point I could, I also tried uninstalling any window updates that were installed right before my problems. I have read some strings that indicate it may be a compatibility issue between the service pack 1 and vista but the service pack came with the computer and it has been working fine until recently. Hi there, I would really appreciate some guidance with this matter which is giving me some cause for concern.

For about a month now every time I start up my computer I get various random messages once Windows 7 has loaded up telling me that programs have stopped.

Every time it is a different program, sometimes "Run Once Wrapper", sometimes some HP prgram, sometimes Alcohol 120 etc etc etc. None of these cause huge issues not working on startup but it is an annoyance. I would say there are at least one or tow prgrams each time I start Windows 7 that have stopped working. There is no patetrn though apart from I start to see the same programs having stopped after a few days or so again.

Having Googled various pages I can't see any obvious cause...

I have done a scannow from a command prompt and it hasnt revealed anything or fixed anything.

Secondly for some reason Firefox always has Flash fail on it.

Thirdly Google Chrome will not only not work, but I cannot seem to download it anymore from IE.

I wonder if all of these problems are linked... a funny Windows issue perhaps?

Any ideas please?

I had this same issue with Win 8.1 Pro N about year ago as well and I somehow fixed it, but I can't recall what I did at all besides that it was big headache to figure out. Now yesterday since I got a SSD I installed Windows again and that problem is back.

What I checked first:
Nothing to see here...

Then I tried troubleshooter:

"Hardware changes might not have been detected"
That's not very useful

Let's check out Device Manager:

Shouldn't it be in sound devices category with some other entries? I have that category missing altogether.

Properties:

"This device cannot start (Code 10)"
I tried uninstalling drivers and restarting many times already

Let's let Windows search for new drivers:

Outside of that I've tried to install two different versions of Realtek driver packages. Multiple times. One from Asus site that's latest for this particular laptop but officially has support only up to Win7. (I had that driver before so it works with 8.1) and other is from Realtek site that officially supports Win8.1 as well. No success.

I even restored BIOS factory settings even though there aren't any sound related settings there.

Windows Audio service is running. Checked that.

I re-installed Windows 3 times. One of them was just old Win 8 Pro with no updates included, second was latest Win 10 preview, and finally I installed Win 8.1 Pro N back. None of them had working audio.

Windows 7 didn't have that issue and I know that my hardware is fine because... Read more

Also I just discovered that when I installed either versions of Realtek drivers they removed all the files they copied to program files/realtek/driver folder just before finishing the installation. So they didn't even install properly.

Probably due not finding actual audio hardware it can use? Then it's entirely Windows problem.

chkdsk came up with nothing.
as per suggestion by another user I booted into safe mode -- the crashes do not occur within safe mode -- good to know. I opened cmd and ran 'sfc /scannow'. no results.

also, a user suggested it may be my ram -- I don't believe this is the case because my XP installation runs just fine on the same hardware.

i restarted the computer into normal windows and even before windows could boot it said userinit.exe and runoncewrapper both crashed then windows media player, then realtek audio, then nvidia, and a ton of other processes. Also, it seems to for whatever reason be knocking my games from 40fps down to 12.

When I got to add/remove programs, it shows that HD Audio can be uninstalled, but I don't know if that means it's working. Hi all,

So I'm kind of stuck.. I currently have the problem where I am in an endless cycle of "loading files" -> "Windows Boot Manager" (see: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)).
I have tried to load all of the options -- and none successfully load.
I also end up at a OneKey Recovery as well.. unfortunately, the laptop does not have initial backup or user backup images.
I have a Windows 8 CD for repairing purposes.. however, I cannot load the BIOS/UEFI to change the boot order to load the optical drives first. I have also tried to remove the CMOS battery to fix it.. did not work. .
Also - Windows Boot Manager:
Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] -- does not load properly (leads to OneKey Recovery) Safe Mode (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Networking (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Command Prompt (doesn't load - tries to boot and load all files onto partition that is too small.. can't change partition?)
Enable Boot Logging Enable Low-Resolution Video Debugging MOde Disable automatic restart on system failure Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Display Early Launch Anti-Malware Driver
Start Windows Normally
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I bought a Gateway E56R41u to replace my Acer netbook. I'm really happy with this machine. However, I downloaded the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 and my audio quit working. I've downloaded all the drivers that I could find and nothing works. Is there a driver for another machine that will work with my Gateway?

A:Realtek HD Audio stopped working after I upgraded Windows

There is a generic driver available from RealTek, but if you have reinstalled the correct driver from Gateway, I doubt that the direct from RealTek will help.

Are there any other problems that you are aware of, after the 8.1 update? I don't recall this being a problem with audio.

Go to the Device Manager and display what is listed in the Sounds Video and Game Controllers section. Post back on what is listed there, including any error codes. Better yet, post a screen shot of that section.

Hi there,

Hello all. I hope this is the right place to post this support thread.

I am trying to install Open Office, but every time it is crashing during the installation process. This has happened the same way for three different .exes from their website - 4.1.1 en-GB, 4.0.1 en-GB, and 4.1.1 en-US.

I run the .exe, click next on Installation Preparation, select a location to unpack the files, and it extracts them. Once it reaches the Installation Wizard window, it works on 'Computing space requirements' for a second or two, and then crashes, saying "Windows(R) installer has stopped working".

I have looked around a couple of help threads, and tried a few things. I have been into regedit, but there was nothing except '(default)' under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions. I ran 'sfc /scannow' in the command prompt, but got "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". Can anyone suggest a fix? Thank you

While not a solution to fix your problem, here is something you could try to get a free Office suite.

I have Libre Office Portable, similar to Open Office, and the portable version doesn't install Libre Office.

Hi

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a Lenovo T510.

Every single time I do a Properties on My Computer, I get this pop up message that "Windows Control Panel has stopped working". Oddly, I just cancel that window and everything otherwise seems to work normally. But it happens every time and I can't figure out why.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks

Hi

This usually happens when you dont remove the software completely, some process are attached to the Windows Explorer ... thats causing this.

Try using Autoruns and look under Explorer... and look for file that highlighted in yellow.. usually should say "File not Found". Uncheck or delete these and restart you computer.

Try these and let me know.

Hello,
I problem I have been geting in the past 2 days is that whenever I use the search index, like for example look in my librarys, program files, or look for anything on my computer, a box pops up saying "Windows explorer has stopped working", and whatever im searching for will automaticaly close. This is very frustrating because like everyone who owns a PC I search for files and such, and I have tried many things to try and fix this, including:

-System restore
-Uninstalling windows updates
-Restarting computer
-Disabeling Index service
-Disabeling Windows search service

I have read of a solution to this problem that involves deleting files related to the index, but again I cannot do this because every time I look in search index it automaticaly closes.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated

A:Search Index "Windows explorer has stopped working" error

Try to do system file check first:
Start-->cmd (run as administrator)-->sfc /scannow (space between sfc and /)

If it does not work
Try a scan disk.
Disk Check

If it doesn't work, you might want to do a Repair Install , it will preserve your data, user account, and system driver

I'm getting this problem on a desktop running Windows 7 and on a laptop running Vista.

On the Win7 system (on which I'm typing this,) I'm getting the "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and "Windows Explorer is restarting" message pair every time I try to open any program from the desktop (such as MalwareBytes, Spybot, IrfanView, anything,) using right click and "Run As Administrator." They'll open and run normally if I do the ordinary left-click, or if I right-click and "Run As Admin" from the Start menu.

On the Vista laptop it's less consistent and seemingly not dependent on the right-click/Admin selection. On vacation I tried to download and run Verizon's VZAccessManager software - so as to use my ancient flip-phone as a tether - and couldn't get the system to detect the phone ("A wireless device was not detected!" is the message I would get.) After attempting multiple tweaks with the assistance of Verizon Tech Support via that phone, he came to the conclusion that I've got a problem with the system - something running on it that shouldn't be there.

On both systems there's also been a marked delay time in program initiation (when they start at all,) and running the usual malware/spyware detection programs such as MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D, etc., comes up empty; the same with virus scans.

Though the coincidence suggests a connection and that it&#... Read more

A friend at work experienced the same problem on his PC. Turns out he had a corrupt indexing file. You could try posting the details from Event Viewer, if that is possible. I wouldn't be able to help you interpreting them, but maybe some of the more experienced members could.

Have you tried disabling Windows Search? I did this on my friend's PC as a temporary measure . Got IE working, although searches were rather slow. It isn't a solution, but it could afford you a temporary -- albeit inconvenient -- workaround.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Stick around, though, and wait for inputs from the more knowledgeable members.

A problem caused the application of stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solutiion is available."

There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason for it... it just arbitrarily shows up from time to time. It's not related to booting Vista, I don't think, b/c it'll pop up occasionally during the same session.

I've spent countless hours trying to fix this. It started out with me wanting to enable the "stereo mix" option and so following a youtube video I proceeded to updating the driver using device manager > update driver and after restarting, I received this error.

I then downloaded the newest driver of the manufacturer website (realtek hd audio) realtek.com and installed it. Mind you, the stereo mix option did in fact show up, although I couldn't make use of any audio since I was getting the "no audio output device is installed" error.

All this time, I can still see the mic/line-in inputs, and headphone/speaker outputs in the sounds (control panel). I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and using the roll-back option for drivers. Although from control panel, I managed to uninstall the sound card software for realtek. Between all of this, after any sort of install or uninstall I also restarted my computer.

I downloaded the drivers from the HP site (PC manufacturer for my comp) and the Realtek site (sound card creator) and all of them are giving me the same results.

Furthermore, I even tried the System Restore and it wouldn't work complaining about an anti-virus when all of mine are already disabled. I checked what the System Restore would affect too and nothing for my driver was in there as far as I know.

I'm really not sure what my options are now, and it's sucks not having any sound.

Today, I decide to take a break from my Fedora partition and actually load into windows. It had been a day or two and i knew my thunderbird would be bursting at the seams with emails.

I boot.
It chugs a bit more than usual.
I get an error message about 5 minutes after I boot.
"Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed"
It said more than that, but it was all trivial information about what might have caused it and whatnot- then it popped up a windows help browser suggesting i run windows updates, because apparently every problem can be fixed with an update (it wasn't).

This shows up every time I boot. It doesn't really seem to be affecting anything (yet), but it still perturbs me and all the things I find on google seem to be particularly vague in the direction of something in the event log without telling me exactly why i'm there or what I'm looking for, let alone how to go about it.

So, what do I do to alleviate myself of this little dialog at login?

Hi there,

Recently switched a laptop for a family member back from Windows 8 to Windows 7, thought all would be fine, but am running into some issues.

The laptop is an HP Envy Sleekbook 6 1126sa: HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1126sa Product Specifications | HP? Support - and their site only lists drivers for windows 8.

After some googling I managed to find drivers for most things, apart from the touch pad, which is overly sensitive to clicks, and not sensitive enough to movement now. I'm sure that this could be fixed however with the correct driver, but do not know where to find it! Anyone?

The HP site says the touchpad is a: HP ImagePad with on/off button

The biggest problem though, is that a LOT of programs such as itunes, vlc, etc, did not work the first time I tried to run them, saying "_Application name here_ has stopped working" after clicking on their shortcut. However, if I then set them to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7, they'd work fine!

Not a huge issue, but it is irritating, and I'd like to know if anyone has any idea if it's fixable. I wonder if this too could be a driver issue? Though it's so inconsistent on which programs it does it with that I have really no idea.

Weirdly, the first program this error surfaced with, was when trying to run the Windows Performance Index thing, is the only additional info I can think of to start with.

Any help appreciated, thanks!

Then any open Windows explorer windows and all desktop icons and the taskbar disappear for a second then come back. Then the process repeats again.

This happens every 2-3 seconds and loops continously. I can't open anything in explorer b/c it closes all explorer windows when it restarts, I have to go to safe mode to access my files. It's driving me insane

I have just bought a new laptop 2 weeks ago, pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and I haven't had any problems until just yesterday with this new OS. I've searched all over the internet for solutions, but the people who have the same problem seem to have problems with malware or spyware. Some people have suggested uninstalling programs that might have been installed on the current date, but the only program I have installed is Avast anti virus. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with spyware but just to be sure I am running an anti virus scan again (I already did before and found nothing).
Oh ya forgot about the problem: Everytime I open my Program Files folder under the C drive a message comes up saying that Windows Explorer has stopped working, then Searching for a solution and then it just restarts windows explorer. I have checked with other folders and this doesn't happen. Weird thing is though that when I changed the way I view the folder for (previously my) documents, from details to tiles (the icons), the same thing happened. And when I open program files for a brief 2 seconds, it's in tiles mode.
Sorry the message is so long, just wanted to be exact. Anyone else have/had this problem or have a solution?

P.S. is Avast even any good of an anti virus?
P.P.S. I am able to access control panel and add/remove programs (program features) and this problem doesn't occur when I login in - as it did for some people

Yes I had the same problem unfortunately. I'm no computer tech, in fact, using this Vista programme seems to be a bit of a pain. But because of our problem and others, I'm learning fast. I nearly gave up hope and just before I threw the thing accross the room I thought "why not reinstall vista". It actually worked because the computer thought it was starting up for the first time. No probs. I cant say it will work for sure for you but I do no this, not meaning to scare you, I have only used this programme for 6 months and have had a great deal of hassle. Also from the feedback I have encountered, unless microsoft do something soon, you will need to brace yourself because there are too many faults with the programme. Good Luck. Z

Straight after I downloaded Netlimiter, I got all these problems. First the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" kept looping but now it has stopped and only comes up when I try and open My Computer etc.

I can't access control panel as the taskbar is gone but when the taskbar was there I couldn't open it anyway as it just closed again.

I can access cmd through task manager.

Safe mode doesn't let me open control panel either.

Does anyone know how to create a new user account through cmd? Maybe this could solve my problem?

I don't think it's a virus as AVG didn't pick anything up and Netlimiter is known to be a good program.

Any help appreciated.

A:"Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to restart" in Vista,

Sounds like an infection (or a driver issue due to the fact you can access via Safe Mode). The best advice we can give you is to go to our Virus and Malware Removal forum.

Normally we would say to read the 8 step sticky and follow it step by step and when you go to post attach the required logs.

However, you can't access the internet on your possibly infected system. I would still post there and let them know of your issues. Either Bobbye or Broni or someone else will see your post and give excellent suggestions and help.

Make sure the tile of your post is solidly descriptive such as "Help: Can't Access Internet to Run 8 Steps" or some such thing.

Good luck.

This is sort of odd. I'm moving some folders from my laptop's internal HD to an external one (actually copy and delete, but close enough), but with one folder I can't get to first base. Just one. I haven't had a problem using the drag-and-drop method inside WE for any of the others.

It doesn't matter whether I click on the folder on the left side directory tree column or the right side "folders and file" column, Explorer still craps out, generating the subject message. It then restarts itself.

The computer is an older Gateway that is maxed out at 2 gigs of ram. I was wondering if this might be part of the problem, but I don't think so. Not when I can successfully do a multi-folder drag and drop several gigs in size.

I have tried rebooting the system to see if that made a difference; it didn't. And I've attempted the transfer with no other windows open. That didn't make a difference either.

Finally, in order to move the files onto the external drive, I opened up a DOS window and copied them over the old fashioned way. Once the folder was empty, I was able to delete it from within WE. But now, the new folder on the external drive is behaving in the same screwy fashion as the old one. The new folder has a different name from the old one but the same problem has surfaced again. If I so much as click on the new folder, WE errors out and closes. Very strange. Makes me think there's something odd about one or more files. They copied just fine, though, and deleted ... Hi All,

Let me get right to the point...

Background:
I just changed my hard disk because my old one's integrity is at 2% to a point where I couldn't even load Windows. So, I reinstalled everything: Win 7 Ultimate x32 and all other third-party software that I use. All the installation process worked smoothly... no error or warning of any kind. I always have 2 users set up on my computer: one is the (system's predefined) Administrator; and another is a user with near-admin privileges (a power user) that I use for daily operations and it has almost all access to my data partition drive (I set up the security permission for this user on the data drive).

Problem:
The problem started after I created the second user and set up the security permission for this user. I can read, write, modify, even delete a file on the data partition, but I cannot move that same file to another folder still within the data partition to which this user has access. The error was always: "Windows Explorer stopped working" and it had to refresh/restart.

Solutions tried (based on my browsing similar "Windows Explorer stopped working" problems in this forum):
- First, I tried giving the user group(s) (the groups that this user belong to: Users, Power Users, etc.) the permissions that I wanted -- same problem.
- Second, I tried giving the actual user, instead of just the user group, the permissions that I wanted -- same problem.
- I tried giving the user full control/permission -... Read more

Hi, today I got the "windows explore stopped working" problem on Vista system. I found the post of Joncotes in last year as below. But It doesn't work on me because although I repeated steps 1-3 many time the explorer still can not restarts. Is anyone can tell me what can I do now? Thanks so much!!!!

the The only goal here is to remove a trojan that installed itself on the computer. It can be accessed from the Add/Remove programs list, but the only problem is explorer keeps restating and you can’t open the windows fast enough without them automatically closing. This is an in-depth fix, read carefully:

1. Open Task Manager via Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
2. Click File > New Task (Run…)
3. Type “C:\Program Files” Press ENTER

Note: Since the explorer browser was accessed through Task Manager, it shouldn’t close every time Explorer restarts. If it does, repeat steps 1-3 until the window never closes after an Explorer restart.

4. Click the “Folders” link near the bottom of the left-hand colored pane.
5. Click Control Panel.
6. Click Program and Features.
7. Click the “Installed” tab so it sorts by installation date.
8. Notice the programs installed on the current day’s date! You need to uninstall these.
9. READ CAREFULLY!!!
10. When you click to remove one of these programs, windows will ask you to restart. DO NOT RESTART. Click “No”
11. If/When Windows prompts you telling you the uninstallation failed, click “Uninstall Using Recommended Settings”.

Ran Acronis True Image 2011 image backup last night and was set to auto shut down after image/verification completed.

This morning the screen still had Acronis running with the message "Program has stopped working". Closed Acronis and tried to reboot...but after two hours I still have the "closing" message on the screen:

"Operations are in progress. Please wait
The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete"

Relatively small Windows installation with maybe 50 gigs being used on disk.

Have tried the PC case restart button...but nothing happens ?

Should I turn the PC box on & off via the main switch on the back of the box ?

Thanks...TRinAZ

A:Program "stopped working" - Windows shutting down for over 2 hours ?

This message is caused by Acronis. If you left the default verification schedule set, it will verify what is set to verify before it shuts down. This could be quite a few backups.
I just let mine run and then made sure all defaults are set to not schedule verifications.

You could try to shutdown and reboot but I have not tried that.

Three times in the last 24 hours this warning has opened on my Desktop, after I have just closed Windows Live Mail [WLM] . After the warning disappears from the Desktop, WLM opens yet again.

Naturally I've allowed the issue to be reported to MS and sent the information, but I note that there is also a File that describes the event, in this case:

C:\Users\Tony\AppData\Local\Temp\WER21C8.tmp.hdmp

Is there any way that I may attempt to either fix or resolve this issue myself? For starters, I haven't a clue about how I access the quoted File, and if I did, I don't know what to do with it anyway.

Or is this yet another of those situations where you just grin and bear it until MS come up with something to resolve the issue? Hope not 'cos it's mildly annoying...

A:"Windows Live Mail has stopped working" - Files describe event; Fix?

1) Ignore error message.
2) Do a "repair" of Windows Live Essentials via Programs and Features
3) Use the Disk Cleanup utility
3) Use sfc /scannow via the command prompt window.

Well, I feel pretty stupid right now.

Recently I was moving a bunch of files onto a new hard drive, when my system would try to load the thumbnails of some, I would get the error in the subject, and so assumed the file was corrupt, and deleted it, later downloading a fresh copy.

The fresh copies however give me the same error, which of course restarts explorer. The files themselves have worked before, and are from reasonably reputable sites, I doubt they're the issue.

It occurred to me that when this error would occur, the little Matroska symbol would be flashing like mad, and after posting on another forum, decided my best bet would be to uninstall the codec pack with Matroska.

Unfortunately, I believe I did the exact opposite of what I wanted to. I may have uninstalled every codec except ffdshow, matroska, haali splitter, etc, as the error was still present after the restart, but the folder was empty.

The only difference seems to be that explorer just restarts without the error message.

A:Windows A Minor Variation of "host process (Rundll32) has stopped working"

Exactly what are the system specs and do you have a Vista disk.

You may need to run the system file checker and it could require the system disk.

In regards to your immediate issue I would recommend doing a system restore to a day prior to this event so that it can be undone and then we can look into it further and possibly determine what the issue is.

I have got a laptop with a fresh instal of W7 Pro x64 on it. When I try to install Office 2007 Enterprise or Office Pro Plus 2010 on it the setup tries to start but then crashes with "Microsoft Office Setup has stopped working". This occurs when it actually tries to install, I can go through entering CD key, choosing install location and what to install no problem.

I have tried installing from a downloaded ISO as well in case the disks were in bad condition but exactly the same issue occured.

Any help much appreciated.

I recently got a new laptop and I've been having a lot of trouble with the sound. It is the laptop seen here:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218090329155

Sometime the audio works, but then if I pause a song and attempt to resume it a few minutes later, errors occur and the audio seems to be disabled.

"Windows Audio has stopped working" flashes quickly, followed by:

"Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed
A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."

Then, if I right click on the small volume icon in the bottom right by the time, go to "Playback Devices" I get the following message:

"This computer cannot play audio because the Windows Audio Service is not enabled.

Would you like to enable the Windows Audio Service?"

I click yes and the audio works again, but even after this it still acts funny.

Things of note:Sometimes the Volume Up/Down/Off buttons on my keyboard work, and sometimes they do not.
After this problem occurs and I restart it by going to Playback Devices, the audio cannot be turned up/down in Windows Media Player. I must manually adjust my (external) speakers.
I'm using Windows Media Player because Songbird and iTunes seem to freeze up every time I try to play music through them

Hi!

My Sony VAIO laptop computer is not feeling well.

I have Windows Vista 32 bit, which i have (presumably) upgraded to at least SP1.
As for Service Pack 2, i can not install it due to the problems i am about to describe.

When i first log into Windows, i log in as my only user account (named "Lizard"), which is also my administrator account.

Among the very first messages i get is an error from RunDLL stating that "Error loading C:\Users\Lizard\AppData\Local\Temp\ddcAsqpO.dll".

After closing that alert - everything works just fine for between 2 to 20 minutes.

Then, i get another message that says "Host process for Windows services stopped working and was closed.".
After this error message, my beloved laptop goes through a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde tranformation.
Everything related to Windows Explorer goes in slow motion, if i - for instance, want to save an image i have created - i have to wait for several minutes before the computer unfreezes. That is, if i'm lucky enough to get it back in the first place.
I have tried to get relevant updates for Windows; apart from Service Pack 2 i have also tried to use Windows Update, but i get an error message during the download procedure and then nothing is installed.

The same applies to Spyware Doctor, a program that used to run regular scans of my computer earlier, but now has been paralyzed by something.
Beeing a happy amateur, my investigations have produced very little.

I have, however... Read more

Hi everyone, I have just started encountering this problem very often with my laptop, im running vista home basic, and it keeps on seeming to happen shortly after i boot up my computer.
Recently I installed 2GB Crucial RAM (2x1gb) (I had 2x512mb before) and soon after this problem, along with a few others have started happening, for example, i can hear the hard drive clicking and whirring a lot louder than usual - which makes me think that i may have knocked it or something when i put it upside down (?), anyway, on the Problems Report and Solutions page, it says to look in event viewer, and i found the culprit file being C:\Windows\Prefetch\WINRAR.EXE-BA8CDB31.pf
I did try putting the old ram back in to see if it would have any effect - but it definately wasnt the ram.
So what can I do?? can I delete this file to stop it trying to access it? (I no that will probably be a very stupid thing to do) or is there some way i can fix it? - or do you think my hard drive may be damaged?!

Anyway any help would be much apprecciated.

I've re-installed Windows 7 countless times the last few days and there are always problems and the latest is this, I am not sick of re-installing and I'm hoping to find a fix for the problems instead.

Hi everyone,
Just about a week ago I randomly started getting a message saying that "Windows Explorer has stopped responding and that it's looking for a solution". Then a message after that will flash on the screen telling me that "Windows Explorer is restarting". After that message disappears my entire desktop, minus the background, will flash off the screen for a second or so. This process will repeat itself in a loop. This interrupts, exits out of or minimizes any windows that I might have open. This makes it impossible to keep the start window up or anything like the my computer window or pictures.
I've contacted Microsoft with no help at all. The person I got told me that there was no such thing as Windows Explorer. I would really like to get my computer back up and running soon.

It usually just restarts and all is well but recently when it restarts it kills my ASUS Suite II and NVIDIA Control Panel, both of which I use frequently. It's not a terrible issue as I just restart the applications but I would love to see if I can fix this issue instead of just "dealing with it"

I have tried a SFC Scan Now and a ChkDsk both reported no issues and clean drives. I have the ContextMenuHandlers trick, no dice. Can't seem to figure out the issue.

Any help would be great.

A:"Windows has stopped working" at random times

Try installing all updates, especially the critical ones. They fix issues.

Have you installed any programs that are from an unknown publisher? These programs are usually malware. Run a full scan, because it checks your computer more accurately than a fast scan.
It can make your computer not responding lots of times and it may delay everything your computer is trying to do.

If that doesn't fix your issue, try restoring your computer to a state which it was fine. Go to System Restore.

If that didn't fix the issue again, the only thing I can tell is reinstall Windows in Custom mode.

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Lenovo.

Every time I'm entering to my computer properties I get this pop up message that "Windows has stopped working". Usually I just cancel it, windows is restarting for 2 seconds and appears again. I've tried a couple of things but it keeps happening.

Anyone has a clue what to do?

Hi all,

Have been having a couple of issues over the last couple of days using my Dell Inspiron 1525. I'm not particularly good with computers so please bear with me or ask me for more info if I'm not specific enough....

I am getting various Windows Explorer has stopped working messages when trying to access things like the Control Panel, this along with regular internet page freezes every 60-90 seconds - back in Feb I had to reload Windows Vista to my laptop and it had been working fine from there. I have read a few forum posts and have carried out various steps such as:
Uninstalled AVG and downloaded MSE
Have scanned with MSE and gotten a good result back
Ran the scf/scannow - only got 20% through then got "Windows Resource Protection could not carry out the requested operation" (actually did this bit before the MSE scan)
Could anyone point me in the right direction or give me some "Idiots Guide" which allows me to follow a process to stop this constant freezing please?

An example for you is that it's just taken me almost 30 minutes to type this message!!!!

Hi, I just joined this forum so I hope I can explain this so you understand. While I am working in my computer, reading email or just working in a software program, I periodically get this message that Windows Explorer has stopped working (and then an explanation that it is trying to fix it). Then it continues with another message about trying to fix it and it closes the program.

I don't know why this is happening but a lot of times I am in Windows Live Mail.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit (built by my computer store (Dnet Computers). I didn't put the specs in because I wasn't sure what to put in. I don't know what other information I can give you.

Thank you.

A:I get message that "Windows Explorer has stopped working"

Hi,

Please try this:

1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output once it finishes.

Also, gather your system specifications using this:

Good Evening All,

First of all, let me apologize beforehand for the rambling post. I just don't really know where to start and what information is needed. I'm hoping there is hope for my Lenovo T410 laptop.
When I try to open most programs I get the error listed in the title of this post. Then it goes to "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem". Then it closes and goes away. I haven't been able to figure out any rhyme or reason to the apps that do not load.

I was stupid and recently performed every Windows Update that showed up and my problems have started since. One of my original problems was with GfxUI.exe stopping, so I uninstalled Microsoft.NET Framework and that seems to have helped with that error at least (original error screen shot attached, I think 2.0 is still on the machine). I've also manually uninstalled any of the updates I can specifically remember installing.
Additionally I've tried to do a system restore as far back as I am able, but that hasn't helped. I wish I had earlier restore points.

I don't think I have any viruses/malware as my McAfee and Malwarebytes haven't found anything, could be wrong. I have attached latest HijackThis log.

I cannot use any diagnostic tools (Microsoft Management Console, Lenovo ThinkvantageToolbox, etc), because everything closes. However, I have performed a few SFC scans and have a bunch of "Could not reproject corrupted file" entries; I didn't want to attach that without permission as i... Read more

I have a piece of software that periodically fails for some unknown reason. I have pretty much given up on trying to figure out what its problem is. I simply respawn the process if it fails to respond or no longer exists. The process runs several times a
minute. Occasionally, I get an error message saying my software "has stopped working" followed by another messagebox saying my software "is restarting". And then it restarts my process. This is beyond stupid since my process requires command
line arguments that are not being provided when this restart occurs. I simply want to disable these messages or at least
disable this auto restart. Is there any way to do this?

I have already tried the regedit hack:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting]
"DontShowUI "=dword:00000001

This didnt work. I still get these messages.

Hi,

When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

A:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.

Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?
Thanks!

I had this error when I first installed Vista (I formatted yesterday and reinstalled Vista) I remember fixing it by clearing one of the folders, I forget which though and I can't find where I read it anymore either so I was hoping you guys could tell me the fix for this. It only happens in some folders.

Thanks in advance.

Problem: When I try to access anything that requires Windows Explorer (pictures, documents, right clicking, etc) I get a message that says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" It then says "Windows is checking for a solution" and then "restarting windows explorer."

One thing that might be worth mentioning - at the beginning of the summer my computer had to get a new fan, I was gone all summer and had to leave before it could be repaired so I put my hard drive in my mom's lap top and took it with me and switched them back when I got home. This problem has only started since I put my hard drive back into my computer, I'm not sure if that is relevant to the issue or not.

I have tried - disabling all the startup items - didn't work.
Clean Boot - didn't work

However, when I start Windows in safe mode I don't have this problem.

Is there a possible solution to this that doesn't involve reformatting?

EDIT: I am using Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite P305D-S8900

I get the above dialogue box message just after Windows opens. Once the message appears I have only limited control over the desktop.

The dialogue box gives 2 options. 1. "Check online for a solution and restart the programme" and 2. "Restart the programme". Once I have taken either of the options, the dialogue box disappears and I have normal control over the desktop. However within 10 seconds it returns and I have limited control again.

My OS is Windows 7 64bit. I have installed all the updates and installed the latest version of Internet Explorer. I have run my virus app. and there is no virus.

Please advise if I need a complete reinstall or if there is a fix.

Right click on the explorer.exe process in Task Manager...Processes tab and select "Create Dump File"
Once the dump file is generated, zip up the file and upload it with your next post.

If it's too big to upload, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link to it here.

Help needed, guys and gals!

Didn?t know to which category my issue belongs so I put it here. Mods, feel free to move.

Have had no crashes or other problems, have fallen in love with W7. But now there is a major problem. Until today I?ve been using my Logitech bluetooth KB & mouse (see specs) with W7 drivers without problems, but earlier today I got this stupid idea and installed Logitech Setpoint 4.72 to be able to use all the special functions and keys.

Like Setpoint installation told me, I turned Firewall and Defender off. Installation was OK, Setpoint connection helper found KB and mouse. And then came this:

This was a weird issue. And I was stupid enough to make it even worse: to secure my files, I decided to make a full backup before making a system image recovery. And so I did. A full backup. And a system image backup, meaning my backup system image HAD THIS FAULT, too. So after doing a system recovery using my system image, I still had the same problem. How stupid am I?

But now everything is OK. I did a repair installation, and everything works.

Still very happy with W7!

Hello,
Fisrt as describe in my profil my PC knowledge are low.
I am currently the "happy" user of a PC using Vista.
I do receive the fallowing message: "windows explorer has stopped working"... "explorer is restarting" every 30sec which is painful.

The issues that I have identified (but I am sure there is more) are at least:
Video ActiveX and Security Toolbar 7.1....

After reading few other post I tried to use Smitfraudfix and combofix but both of them are not for vista....

Hi everyone,

Just got a new computer with Vista, and boy does it suck! I'm having many problems with it, but one in particular drives me crazy. I tried doing a search, and didn't come up with anything, so sorry if this has been asked before....

Whenever I put in a data CD, containing .avi files, .mpgs, mp3s and so on, as soon as I click on it in windows explorer, it just shuts down straight away, giving me the message:

"Windows Explorer has Stopped Working" and gives me the option to check online for a solution or just close windows explorer. It appears that windows is trying to make a thumbnail image of the file, but can't so it just shuts down. Anyone know what the hell is going on with this, and how to fix it?

Thanks!

I just started having "Windows Explorer has stopped Working" show each time I right click any drive or folder in the left hand column of explorer. Attached snip from event viewer doesn't tell ME what to do, if anything.

I have run SFC /Scannow a couple of time but nothing shows as needing repair or replacement.

Thanks for any help.

A:"Windows Explorer has stopped Working"

If you haven't already done so, run a full scan with your updated anti-virus suite to rule out malware. Since no anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time, it wouldn't hurt to run a couple more on-demand scans just to double check your primary product. These free utilities are recommended.

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

HitmanPro

SuperAntispyware

Another possibility is that sometimes a "Windows Explorer has stopped working" error message can be traced back to an application conflict. I'd suggest trying a clean boot (AKA clean startup) to see if some problematic app can be isolated.
