Sounds constantly switches b/w mono and stereo on Internet videos

Q: Sounds constantly switches b/w mono and stereo on Internet videos

New member with an annoying problem. I got the latest updates from Microsoft last week and after that my internet sound has had problems. At first, it would quickly fade to almost nothing before coming back. It now switches from normal stereo (set at 24 bits, 48000 Hz) to softer mono for a second or two. I've tried changing it to DVD quality, but it didn't help. This is happening on streaming videos and youtube (both on Firefox and Explorer), but not my own files played via media players.

Ideas? Thanks!

A: Sounds constantly switches b/w mono and stereo on Internet videos

Youtube either uses Adobe Flash or HTML5 for their videos (and sound). Sound problems are often because of a corrupt Flash player. Reinstall the Adobe flash player as a first step.

By the way, "CD Quality" Audio is 16 bit 44100Khz. That is what is used with commercial audio CD's and what a "standard" wav audio file is.

I need to copy and convert around 2000 mp3's to MONO to use in a piped music system throughout a workplace.

I can do it one by one with a number of applications I have, does anyone know of one that will convert a whole directory?

My band recorded a song and put it on the computer. When I play it, it only comes out of through one channel and I want to know how I can go about fixing it. I used this really half-assed setup, through a video camera (not digital) and then mono through USB. I know that I should probably get a mic but I'm far too lazy.

Any ideas?

A:Mono and stereo

Go download Audacity ( and use that.
Shouldn't be a problem to re-save your audio in stereo. Note it will still be mono, in a sense, it just sends the same signal out both left and right channels.

After you get Audacity installed and find a way to import your song (make a backup copy), if you can't figure it out, we'll take the next step.

Good luck!

I had it in 32 bit RC..

Any ideas?

A:No Stereo Mix or Mono Mix in Windows 7 64-bit

I don't have it on Windows 7 32 bit.

I have tried to get it with my onboard sound (Sigmatel) and also with my separate sound card (Creative Labs Soundblaster Live 24 Bit).

No dice, with various drivers.

This means I cannot record what I am hearing over speakers.

If you hear of a solution, advise. I expect this is due to the sound card rather than Windows 7 because I know of at least one person who still can record what he hears--he has a rather expensive sound card.

I would love to hear from anyone who has got "what you hear" recording going on Windows 7.

What sound card were you using on 32 bit when it worked?

Hi everyone!, I have a bunch of stereo split-track .wma's that I need to convert to mono minus the vocal track. Does anyone know of a piece of software that mutes a channel and converts to mono in batches?

A:Stereo To Mono Converter

Adobe Audition has awesome batch processing, infact I routienly take files that are recorded in stereo from a mono source (recorder won't record in mono) and strip out one channel in Audition for a part of my job.

Edit: How often are you wanting to do this, and what size are the files? If this is going to be a 1 time thing I could do it for you real easy, provided the file sizes aren't in the gigs.

Okay, KISS: I'm deaf in my left ear and listen through headphones. I therefore can't hear sounds coming from just the left.

How do I force everything into the right channel? If I just use "Balance" then all it does is omit the left channel and some of the center (I think). Is there a way to do this with all sounds the computer makes via software and not hardware?

Hi Folks,

I have an Acer Aspire SA80-Z970 desktop computer that I purchased about 3 years ago. Some time ago I noticed that I was only getting sound out of one speaker (right hand side). Trying different speakers or the built in monitor speakers did not solve the problem. I've tried updating drivers to no avail.
I've looked at "sound effects manager - AC97 audio control panel" and everything appears to be in order. I've even tried resetting defaults. There is a "test speakers" option there that proves only one speaker is working. As far as I am aware, this PC has an onboard soundcard. I'm running windows XP and also have Ubuntu Linux loaded on a separate partition. The same problems occurs in Linux.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or knows how to fix this. My microphone is supposed to record in stereo and I can use the "listen to microphone" setting on my computer and hear it that way but when I go into audacity or any other recording programs I have on my computer it will record both channels of a stereo recording as if I'm recording with a mono microphone on both channels. If i use the Realtek sound card program and hit the "listen to microphone" button though I can hear the microphone in stereo but just not in other programs. I've tried altering all of the settings I can find but I cannot seem to stop this from happening. I'm sorry if my wording is kind of off I'm not 100% sure how to phrase parts of this. I'm not sure if this will help but I am using a 3dio free space and it connects through a standard Aux. cable.

I have the Plextor Digital Video Convertor and I have quite an old Video Camera.
I have converted the video and sound fine it's just that the Camcorder only has a Mono audio output.

How can I make the audio stereo so it can be played on a Surround Sound System?

The camera is Samsung VP-L600 and the cable I have plugs into the A/V Out and there are two connectors at the end: Yellow (Video) and White (Mono Sound). I don't want to buy another cable.

A:Make Mono Sound Stereo

There is no stereo information in a mono track, but you can simulate stereo using an audio editor such as the free Audacity: basic technique is covered here: format are your video files being recorded in? The difficulty is going to be that the mono sound is incorporated into the audio layer of the video file, and extra sound would have to be added in as an overdub. If you simply want to record straight onto left and right channels, you would need to get a y-splitter lead for the audio connection, so there is two connections available. This would record two identical channels, sound would come from left and right speakers instead of just one, but there would be no stereo "surround" effect.

Anyone know the answer to this:
I have a stock HP DC7600 running XP pro, pretty loaded. But using the default oem sound chip [Realtek HD] and device interfaces. It has a headphone and mic jacks on the front panel, and repeat on the back panel.
My question is whether the MIC input is looking for a balanced [3-conductor] plug or unbalanced [two conductor]. I'm not getting a good sound and so de-bugging.

I notice that the mic line on my ancient Cpq-delivered headset is three-conductor, but that particular headset was packaged with a monitor and may have been peculiar to that particular device..

Aright so i want to make xp be able to output all sound in mono. The reason for this is i have an adapter so i can output sound to my Surround Receiver when i want to. But the connecter being mono and having stereo output i only get one channel. And it sux in hendrix(he pans his guitar solos sooo much) and many other kinds of music because they pan between left and right, and songs don't sound like they're supposed too = (

Please help!! I love my HENDRIX!!!!!
My Setup :

Speaker output (stereo)--> Y connector (mono)-->RCA cable to receiver (stereo)

so you see only left (or right i'm not sure wich) gets carried through both cables on the RCA.

A:Make xp MONO sounds simple right?

There is no reason why you should have to switch to mono output to your Surround Receiver. You must have the wrong Y cable connector. You should be able to get (at Radio Shack for example) at "Y" cable that takes stereo out (both L and R) and converts it into RCA type jacks that your receiver will accepted. Every sound card I have seen has stereo output be it the jack that the desktop speakers plug into or a "line out" jack. If I read your post correctly, I think you simply have the wrong Y cable. Buy a stereo cable.

I have a Creative Labs and a Logitech z-5500 5.1 sourround system. Originally, everything worked fine so I know this is not a hardware problem. I've recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Ult 64, and now I'm only getting stereo sound out of my 5.1 system. Going into Sounds/Diagnostics in control panel I see there's only an option for STEREO, not 5.1 Surround. When I go to the Creative diagnostics and switch from 2/2.1 sound to 5.1 sound, the drop down menu immediately switches back to 2.1. Any suggestions on how to get my sound system fully functioning? I've disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS of my motherboard and made sure the connectors are installed correwctly.

Download the correct 64-bit driver from the Creative support website if you haven't already.

Hey, I've been broadcasting on a site called Justin TV for a while now and I'd really like to be able to do something. Some channels have people call them on skype and they can have a conversation on the show with both people being able to talk. I'd really really like to be able to do this, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get my mic set up so I can mix both the sound output from my computer (the skype call or music, whatever) and my microphone. I have multiple different mics, all of them are USB mics though. I don't know if I'm not understanding this right, but shouldn't I be able to mix those together? I got Stereo Mix working on my computer so I can have whatever I'm hearing be sent back as a sound input, thus I can use it as a "microphone" for broadcasting, but I can only use that, I can't mix in my own mic with the stream. Does anyone know a way to do this? Maybe a program? Me and a friend of mine like to do the show together but I'm moving so the option for him to come over to my house is sorta out of the question, I was hoping we'd be able to use Skype to do it.

Any help will be appreciated!

Hi turbow5! I'm not sure exactly what your problem here could be other than it might have something to do with the new installation that you did which could be causing a conflict with some of the drivers, etc.

However, there is a great program for free download that may be able to solve your problem! It is called YouTube Downloader HD and will give you the option to download from YouTube at 240p, 360p, etc. where it will "lock in" your choice. That may be what can help to stabilize the downloads so that they don't change in mid swing.

A:No sounds when playing Flv Videos

What player are you using. Suggest you uninstall the codec pack, then try the following.

1) Use VLC. VLC will play flv out of the box, no extra software needed.

2) If you want to play them in MPC, you'll need FFDShow.

3) If you want to play them in WMP, then in addition to FFDShow, you'll need an FLV splitter. You can download Gabest.

I would suggest you first diagnose your PC audio, then if everything is alright, try VLC. After that you can try out the other options.

I am running a Toshiba computer with Windows 8 and Google Chrome as my default browser.

Basically, any videos from any website will load but not play, and any sounds (not necessarily just from Google Chrome) won't play either. For example, when I change the volume of my computer it does not play a tone (when it normally should). I have updated Java and Adobe Shockwave to no avail.

The problem started occurring a couple of days ago. Originally I could restart my computer and I would be fine for a while, but eventually that stopped working. I have had this computer for at least 6 months and have not had any problems with it. Also I ran a quick scan with Windows Defender and it didn't find anything out of the ordinary.

My computer won’t pay sounds and videos!

I have tried the usual things by making sure the sounds aren’t muted.

If I select Control panel – sounds and devices I get at the top ‘Bluetooth hands free audio’. It seems as if the computer thinks there is a blue tooth device trying to connect but there isn’t one that I know of. When I start up sometimes it shows ‘new hardware found’ but there isn’t anything to be found.

If I right click on my computer and select – properties – then hardware and device manager and disable the 2 blue tooth lines in sound video and game controllers it does not help

On the sound icon on the tray at the bottom right of the screen if I select that and options then properties the only device under mixer devices is blue tooth hands free audio.

So I still can’t get the computer to play sounds etc.

A:My computer wonÂ’t pay sounds and videos!

Go to ctrl panel and under sound video and game controllers highlight your audio device>properties and see under device usage if "Use this device (enable)" is there.

This was incredibly nerve-wracking for me.So I ran AVG antivirus, turned up a couple trojans, deleted them... still having the problems. This list of problems includes (But may not be limited to):General Slowing (Programs, Opening/Closing, Minimizing/Maximizing, etc.)Non-Responsive Programs (Small actions like opening additional windows causing non responsive programs)Unexplained occassional 'exclaimation.wav' alert sounds - even while internet and programs are inactiveI thought it was malware or something, but usually such infections WANT something, and make it CLEAR that they want you to buy their antivirus, which IS the virus, etc. If this is an infection, it hasn't done anything to expose itself. I've scanned repeatiedly with no results, and I have been recently considering wiping the C drive and reinstalling my OS from the hidden recovery disc partition inside my laptop (Gateway Notebook Model: KAV60), because this computer is frankly starting to be more trouble than it's worth.I've tried running System Restore, because that is normally my trump card against viruses. But it doesn't ever restore successfully. It always says "No changes have been made" (between now and the restore date).....That alert is about to drive me insane, but I don't want to disable it. I want to find the root of the problem.I've down... Read more

I have 2 wireless USB mics hooked up, and you hear 1 through the left speaker and 1 through the right.

Can any kind soul tell me how to mix this so that i hear *both* mics through *both* speakers together?

I have selected 2 channel cd audio, as 1 channel gives 1 mic through both speakers, which is perfect for solo efforts!

Have Googled and tweaked to no avail!

This is for PC karaoke.

Soundcard is Realtek.

Hey guys,

Just got my new Sound Blaster Z in the mail this morning. After some research I found that I should set Windows Sound settings to 5.1 Speakers non-full range in order to best utilize the SB drivers. I use a pair of Razer Carcharias (stereo headset). I don't have speakers. Supposedly, by doing this and turning on SBX Surround I'll get simulated surround in games and listen to stereo music just fine simply by turning off SBX Surround when doing so.

Well, games sound great with simulated surround, FLACs stored on my computer sound great and crisp no matter what Windows is set to (Stereo or 5.1) BUT Youtube videos sound awful. In order to get Youtube videos to sound good I need to go into Windows CP and set the sound options to Stereo Speakers. Once I do it goes back to sounding great again.

It should be noted that I only use Youtube for music. As unlikely as it may sound, YT is an amazing resource for classical music. You can find a lot of performances by different conductors / orchestras or soloists if a solo piece and you can create your own playlists. It's kind of a big deal to me.

Everything else about the card is amazing.

Hey Coxis,

The behavior that you explained can be fixed if you set the adobe flash player to 'follow' your soundcard settings. If you're on 64-bit windows, go to:

Open MMS.CFG and add this line:

Worked perfectly for my 5.1 setup. Youtube audio was previously stuck on its own upmix (a.k.a simulated surround) settings and ignored my soundcard settings.

Hello there folks,

I've encountered a viral problem and can't seem to find any information on it. It started out as some "javaw.exe" permission window that would not stop popping up. Being the naive computer user I am I eventually gave in and clicked it. Then a window popped up saying something along the lines of a hard disk failure warning. Suddenly my desktop items disappeared completely and I started hearing random sounds coming from my computer like clips of radio shows and other random noises. I opened internet explorer to look for help but it kept redirecting anything I typed in the address bar or in google search. I scanned and removed some of the problems using Spybot, Malware Bytes, Super Spyware remover or whatever and rkill maybe more I was up pretty late trying to remove this thing.

The virus removal softwares brought my desktop items back but many of them appear a darker shade of colour and play random sounds when I click on them. The sound bites also still play randomly sometimes and the redirecting on internet explorer is still happening (in fact it was quite challenging just to get to this website). Another window also now keeps popping up saying my CCC Host is not working and that windows is shutting it down (not sure what this is exactly Im far from a computer expert). I've also noticed now that most youtube videos wont play and that none of them have sound even though my computer's speakers are indeed working fine. I have also t... Read more

Whenever I try to watch a video from a website (not Youtube) it'll play for a few seconds, then I'll get a spinning circle while it buffers. It'll play again for a few seconds, then buffer again, ad infinitum. Someone suggested I right-click on the video and disable hardware acceleration, but it's not enabled. I've cleared the temporary Internet files and such with no success. I updated both Java and Flash, but it made no difference, so I'm out of ideas. Have a Dell Inspiron 560 that's about 1 year old. Running Windows 7. I have it hooked up to a 46" LCD TV via HDMI for watching Netflix and Youtube. When watching Youtube, it consistently has to buffer videos and as a result is hard to watch a Youtube clip without it freezing to buffer. It will buffer at different resolutions - 360, 480, etc. I have a 10 mbps wired internet to the Dell so not sure what the deal is? Netflix plays fine.

Can you let me know if there are some things I can do to fix this?

A:Youtube Videos Constantly Buffering

I have a 10 mbps wired internet to the DellHi -Can you set the computer up to the TV and go to - Select your area (roughly) from the world map, and click Begin Test. What is the download reading while you have the computer on the TV -Are you still getting 10Mbps, or is it lower on the TV connection ??Also note that 10Mbps is about minimum required for a steady download, 14 or 18Mbps would be better for streaming -Otherwise you may need to pause the download while your system catches up with the video.Thank You -

When I try to view a video from U Tube or from a friend the video starts and then, within seconds, it stops. I click on the wedge or circle in the center of the screen..often clicking all over the screen... and maybe it starts up again...for a few seconds ...and this process repeats over and over. I can rarely watch a video uninterrupted. Is this a problem with Adobe Flash, as an acquaintance told me? When an update for Adobe Flash was offered I downloaded it to see if that would stop the problem, but it hasn't.

How can I get videos to play without constant interruption?

a few things i tried
to clear my internet cache/cookies
clean up my ram on my pc and do a disk defragment
restart my pc

my internet speeds is about between 10-40mbps down
but like i said i never had an issue like this at all.

any idea?

Youtube uses the Flash player and it has known to cause sound problems. Sometimes reinstalling the flash player will help.

Playing an audio file that is on the PC or a commercial audio CD does not use flash players or similar.

I've noticed that when I'm watching some videos, the audio of that video will occassionally
sound like it's buzzing or being scratched like a dj does to a record.  It's sounds like it's happening due to
some lagging of the system not being able to handle whatever load it's under.
It seems to happen especially when I am photo editing at the same time as the song file playing in the background.   But it still happens even when just watching videos on facebook and moving my mouse around or typing at the same time.
I think it has something to do with the graphics card.  I'm currently using an old one:
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT.  My audio is RealTek High Defintion Audio, and I also NVIDIA
Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM) showing up in my device manager.
I'm not exactly sure which is it that's causing it.
Does anyone know how to fix this buzzing/scratching sound?

Today when I switched on my computer it began to start up (barely staying on for five seconds) before switching off and repeating the whole process. It does stay on long enough for me to push either esc or f10 and go into computer set up. However i am not too sure what to configure and how and as soon as i exit out of it, my laptop starts the whole on/off process again.

I am not too sure about the specs of my laptop, only that it is an Hp and has windows xp.
Please, what can i do? I would be forever grateful if someone knows how I can fix this..

A:Laptop switches on, begins to start up, switches off then repeats process

If you can post the model of the HP laptop, we can learn more for you.
You should find the model information on a sticker on the bottom of the machine.

It sounds like ESC or f10 will take you to the BIOS configuration utility.
Have you tried f8? You may need to press repeatedly, or press and hold.
This will take you to the option to boot to Safe Mode.
If this is successful, let us know. If not, let us know.

Next... you obviously have internet access from another computer.
There are two utilities you should download and run.
These utilities will check for errors in 1) your memory and 2) your drive.
Since they run outside of windows, trying to run them will give us a good idea if it is a hardware issue, or if it is a problem with your OS. (the f8 question may leave this an open question, but this will help get a definite answer, in addition to trying to isolate hardware faults)

To Test Memory... Using Memtest Please follow this guide...

Please note that (unless you start getting errors reported) you will need to let this run a long time.
A good way of doing this is to let it run over night. In each 'pass" there are a series of eight memory tests that are run, each more complicated than the previous. We used to advise letting it run a minimum of 7 passes, unless you start getting errors. We now advise at least 10 full passes. If you have errors reported, you may want to re-run the test with only one stick of ram installed, checked each stick unt... Read more

I do know one thing...I don't have much to spend and from little online research I've done already the The Sony SMP-N100 looks about right. But is that exactly what I need and how do I hook it up to the receiver. I figure that once it connects with the network I'm halfway there, but then what kind of cabling to I run out of it to go into the back of the Onkyo reciever? I don't have a whole lot of available inputs on it left. A tape monitor, a Line 1 DVD input and Line 2 input, and the latter two are supposedly both analog, so that's a concern.

I have no audio, but when I go to (right-click sound icon in tray) --> Playback Devices --> Playback tab --> right click "Speakers / Headphones Realtek High Definition Audio" --> Configure, then in Speaker Setup dialog:
* If I select Quadraphonic in the "Audio channels" list, I hear sound for the RL (rear-left) and RR (rear-right) speakers, with my stereo speakers plugged into the black jack in back. I cannot get sound when testing the regular L and R speakers in Quadraphonic mode; I've tried all 5 jacks.
* When I select Stereo, then clicking L or R speaker icon to test results in no sound, again no matter which of the 5 jacks i plug my stereo speakers into.
* So the only way I have sound is in Quadraphonic mode, but only for the back speakers. Therefore I cannot hear regular stereo output from applications, such as Youtube in Chrome.
This seems like a bug, or a highly unintuitive aspect of Realtek's or Dell's software at best. Any ideas on how to solve? (Beside buying full surround sound speakers)

hi quick question, when ripping songs from cds should you use stereo or joint stereo. i noticed that no matter which 1 u use, the file size remains the same.

i would like to know whick one gives u the best quality and such....i want my songs to sound the way they do on the cds without losing any information.

A:Solved: Stereo or Joint Stereo?

If you want a technical answer look here

and here

(it starts a bit flamey, but gets more interesting towards the end)

As for which to use, thats really a personal choice, many will say to go for true stereo, because that is more like the original. However, that isn't necessarily true. It is possible to recreate the original sound via joint stereo (all my music is stored in lossless format and uses JS), and JS performs better under compression than true stereo. Therefore, JS should out perform Stereo in any given amount of data, or, if the quality is the same, the JS compression will give more data to other parts of the track. (I hope that makes sense).

You need to bear in mind that there is only so much data to provide for the track, good compression concentrates the data where it is needed. JS allows more data to be used by more important or noticeable elements in the track.

Of course the best way to find out is to test it yourself and run ABX tests.

Foobar2000 is a good tool to do ABX tests. Try to use quality audio equipment

Doing these tests will show you what your ears find is the best system, which is what it really comes down to.

It is important that you use a good encoder and a bit-rate that will give you a quality that you are happy with. If you are encoding in MP3, th... Read more

I also cannot Google any webpage without it redirecting me to another webpage. No matter what I do, I am constantly being redirected. I use Firefox and sometimes Internet Explorer. Ok this has been happening for a few weeks now with the connection either being slow or just displaying a yellow triangle saying limited access and no internet access. Getting pretty desperate and running out of ideas now so need to ask here.

Basically we switched ISPs after about a month of no internet, our old modem was from 2005ish and it was just a standard modem where you plug in a wireless router into it and it worked fine. Now we have a wireless modem hub which we were using when I noticed my laptop started having these issues. The other laptop, phones, tablets and PS3 connect fine and maintain connection. So I decided to try connecting up our router and using that (Cisco Linksys E2000, which actually performs better anyway), however the problem persists.

I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 32bit HP thinking it would solve the problem (I was planning on reinstalling anyway to speed it up) but it made no difference. Updated the drivers for the wifi card (Atheros AR9285) to the latest version. Nothing.

I've googled and tried a bunch of things including disabling ipv6, ROUTE DELETE and resetting to, disabling DHCP in ipv4. Right now in Device manager I'm also seeing a "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface" which I've just noticed on this startup. It has a yellow triangle on it and says cannot start (code 10) in properties.

So basically, every so often the connection will either be slow or just won't start at all, and on some boots of the... Read more

Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I purchased an HP entertainment laptop (windows vista os) about a year ago and I started experiencing problems with my speed a couple of months ago.

Most recently, I've experienced the following:

1. Slower speed surfing the net
2. Slow to open up an Internet Window (about 8 seconds)
3. Can not browse internet at the same time that an anti virus program is turned on (to monitor). Has occured with Norton and Trend Micro.
4. Can no longer access I-Tunes store or Rhapsody store when I open the applications.
5. You Tube videos are stop and go instead of running fluidly.

All of this is new behavior for my laptop...

Any ideas on what may be happening or what I should try to do next? I downloaded hijackthis, so I have that software program on my computer.

If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it! Please let me know if you need additional information.

Many thanks in advance!

I'm running Vista x64, and I just bought a Cyber Acoustics speaker system. The sound is working for my media player and everything except "internet sounds" such as youtube videos. I'm using Firefox and Realtek HD Audio Manager.

The speaker system consists of a subwoofer and left/right speakers. My speaker configuration is at 5.1, and they are set to the default format "24 Bits, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)." I'm not sure what is causing the problem but I'd love to resolve it.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks =)

Edit: Downloaded new Adobe software and problem was resolved.

I just want to share my problem and the soluton because it was so maddening to figure out.

I am working with a 4 year old Vista build that until a week ago was always rock solid and trouble
free. Then about a week ago all internet sounds stopped on every browser. I still had windows
sounds and itunes but for reasons I will never understand, the train just jumped the tracks.

I downloaded and intsalled missing reg files and and got new flash players and all that but nothing

What the problem turned out to be was that there is a configuration page for my Soundblaster
live 24 sound card that allows the user to specify what type of speaker system is the default.

Even though I am the only person with access to this pc and I never use headphones, the default
speaker cholce had gotten changed from speakers to headphones.......

It took way too many hours to find that and I will never ever know how the speaker default got
changed and why I was still able to hear windows and itunes sounds,, but not internet sounds.

I'm working on a rebuild of an old Dell. I disabled the onboard sound, and installed several different PCI sound cards. The system is not my main system, but a spare. It's a 32-bit processor, but has Win7 Pro 64 OS.

The onboard sound adapter is so old, I could not get 64-bit drivers from Dell, so I disabled it and bought a couple of PCI sound cards. The drivers installed properly, but I can not get sound from internet, such as YouTube, Pandora no matter which sound adapter is used. This is true in either FireFox or IE9.

But I **DO** get sound from system events such as opening or closing Windows, beeps, errors, etc. **AND** I can play MP3 files from my HD through WMP.

I have downloaded the latest Flash player from Adobe, but I'm not sure if it was 32-bit or 64-bit Flash Player. Would this matter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:No sound from internet, but have system sounds

There is no possible way you can install a 64-bit OS onto a 32-bit Processor. It won't work. Period. End of Story.
Either you have a 64-bit processor, or your confused as to which version of Windows 7 you have.

Goto Control Panel -> System. Under "System Type" it will say either 32-bit or 64-bit OS.

Try some of these first:

Do me a favor in Firefox too - goto Tools -> Addons -> Plugins.
Tell me if Flash is listed in there and what it says.

My desktop OS is Window Vista Premium with Internet Explorer 8.
When I attempt to play a "You Tube" video, or any Internet generated video, I get a message, "You need the lastest Flash Player to see the video". I have installed the latest Flash Player from Adobe, but I still get the same message.

I installed "Gooble Chrome" and it will play all videos. I then uninstalled "Google Chrome", and that did not help. I have since reinstalled Google
Chrome since this is the only way I can see internet videos.

Any suggestions for a quick solution?

A:Internet Explorer 8 will not play internet videos

have you try to check for updates for window vista , i believe you can update to internet Explorer 9 , you may give that a try it should fix your issue.

I would really, really like a way to output mono audio.
However, going through as many settings as I can find, sound card, trying to find mono settings, etc none of them show that my PC can output mono audio right now.
Does anyone have a solution?

A:No mono audio?

In order to provide you with a possible solution you need to post the make and model of this computer.
If this is a custom build, post the make and model of the motherboard.  If you are using a dedicated audio card, post the make and model of it.
One possibility that may work would be a stereo to mono adapter.

The error message I keep getting on many programs is "the mono wav can not be encoded to stereo mpeg"

A:mono .wavs to mp3's?

I don't think you can convert a mono wav file
to mp3. You will probably have to convert the
wav file to either cd quality or stereo and it should let you convert to mp3 then.

I was not sure where to write this because I do not know why I get this problem. It seems to be very rare since googling the whole internet over did not give me any solution.

The problem is: my system does not play MONO files. It can be wav, mp3, ogg or anything else. If it is MONO - no player will play it. Or rather, it does play them, but you cannot hear anything.
The worst thing is that most games I play have a lot of sounds in Mono so when I play I cannot hear half of the sounds...

Configuration I have:
Windows 7
Sound card: the name says "VIA High Definition Audio", on the website of the shop where I bought the computer it says Realtek 5.1.
The computer is brand new, was bought as a whole computer, cost a lot

What I tried to far:
- Reinstalled driver for High Definition Audio from Realtek website
- Updated drivers (says drivers are up to date)
- Installed Ac97 Driver instead of High Definition one
- Tried changing settings in control panel, this only kills the sound altogether, which can only be fixed by reinstalling the driver
- Tried playing mono files in different players - they do not work in any of them
- Tried installing Community Codec Pack
- Tried installing AC3 filter and tinker in some settings - nothing, but not sure I understand how this filter works
- Tried installing all-in-one codec (after uninstalling the CCCP)
- Installed some DFX thing from Microsoft Site, which is only for Windows Media Player - the mono sound appeared but in ter... Read more

i've just bought a new computer that has an onboard soundcard. It's the Realtek HD ALC888 driver that's on the pc and i can't seem to record sounds from the internet with it. I've tried using the various inputs and outputs at the back and on the front panel but nothing works. With my old pc which had an audigy 2 card, i could record any sounds my pc played just with headphones plugged in to the line out at the back.

If anyone has any information on this i would be most grateful.

Check with the manufacturer (of your computer) if the drivers are the most current. Also do you run Vista? If so check with Realtek also.

I'm running windows 7 64bit on a desktop with an edimax 802.11n wireless pci card and via high definition audio and I've a weird problem I cant figure out. When playing any music files, from my hard drive or a cd, the sound is perfect and there are no problems but as soon as I'm connected to the internet I get a strange noise coming from my speakers, the sound is intermitently distorted and jittery.
This is happening while using programs like spotify and youtube and also windows media player, even playing my cd's. Im not sure about how the wirless network card picks up signals but the sound is fine when my computer is connected to the network, but not when the network is connected to the internet.
My network card also has trouble picking up the signal from our netgear Nrouter especially when my stack is backed up against the wall or something is next to it, even if it just gets moved a couple of inches. But somehow it doesnt have any trouble picking up my neighbours signal, in fact it gets a perfect signal.
Any help or info would be so usefull

Well, I had a similar issue with one of my previous computers. The bad news is that it turned out to be PCI bus latency, and a design issue with the chipset, I finally replaced the MB to solve the issue.

So for the longest time now my internet just goes in and out constantly. I'm always on wireless so I'm thinking I might need a new wireless router, but I'm not sure.

When I moved out of my parents house and got my own internet hooked up it all started. Internet would go in and out a lot both on wireless and when I was hooked up to local connection. I had Charter and told them and they gave me a new modem but problem stayed so I just assumed it was the wireless router I had bought. I moved to another city and am still using the same wireless router and got another modem from Charter in my new house. Problem is still there and is way worse.

About every 5 mins I lose connection for about 30 secs. It always says connected though but pages won't load and says connection issues but like I said my wireless connection always shows excellent connection. About once a week it will go out and not come back unless I unplug the modem and router and plug it all back in.

Any help?

The headphone jack on my new laptop is only playing in mono.
Anybody know why?

Actually it's in stereo, but it doesn't pan all the way. If I pan an audio track 100% to the right or left, it only pans about halfway in my headphones (or in my speakers if that's what I plug in).

My sound card is only picking up one channel of a stereo jack that is plugged into it, and that one channel is then being spread over both channels on my pc speakers.
I have the correct driver for the sound card, and this is the only problem i can find. No yellow !'s. No other hardware conflict. Help please.

A:Sound card in mono

if i understand you correctly, you are plugging your stereo into your computer to play music from your stereo on your computer speakers. One it onboard sound, or is it an actual sound card?

If its onboard sound then your problem is probably this. The computer has 3 sound jacks...headphone, speakers, microphone. The only way that would work is if you plugged it into the microphone. And the microphone is only one channel sound. Therefore, you only get one channel sound when playing it.

If its an actual card...then you probably have the same problem unless its a very good card.

Then again, i could be wrong. I've never tried that before, and dont know of anyone that has.....
Either way....good luck

Bleh, never mind. I thought that there was a headphone jack but their isn't.

My Bad.
