Cant switch graphic cards on HP pavilion DV7 6050ec

Q: Cant switch graphic cards on HP pavilion DV7 6050ec

I just reinstalled my computer with windows 7 64bit and I have HP pavilion dv7 6050ec with two graphic cards : mobility radeon HD 6770M and a generic Intel HD Graphics Family. Since I reinstalled the computer, I no longer have to option to chose what graphic card I want to use. Before this reinstallation I could just right click on the desktop and there was a option that said Switch Graphical units, but now there is nothing like that. And I have the latest drivers for both graphic cards and latest Catalyst Control Center and Direct X installed. And in device manager all drivers are installed correctly. So I have no idea what to do.
Please help

A: Cant switch graphic cards on HP pavilion DV7 6050ec

Have you looked in BIOS to disable the onboard video? I don't know where that option came from, I confess that I've never seen it. Otherwise, you could try and disable the onboard video in the device manager.

Hi there,

My computer came with a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP card, which is apparently a Graphics/Video Card with onboard video (or the other way around, video w/ onboard graphics) Now, this is a terrible card- it can barely play any modern games. I want to get a new graphics card, but I'm concerned if I install a new Graphics Card, that because of the onboard video, it will affect this greatly, or if I actually need a video card instead of graphics. What do I actually need, and will it adversely affect anything on my PC.

I can provide more information if you want...

I am going into my fourth year of architecture school and I am building a desktop. I plan on using my system for Adobe cs5, CAD, Revit, 3ds max, Maya, Ecotect, Virtual Enviroment, Rhino, and Grasshopper. I am having trouble deciding on a graphics card. Is it necessary to have a workstation graphic card to do 3d modeling with these programs? If so, what type of card would you reccomend, Nvidia or ATI?

List of requirements given by the school:
Intel® Core? i7
12 GB+ Memory
2TB Hard Drive
Dual 20"+ monitors
DVD±RW Drive
Dedicated ATI or nVidia video adapter with at least 1-2GB memory
Wireless Network Adapter
Windows 7 ® Home Premium (64-bit)

A:Workstation graphic cards vs. consumer cards

The last question is the easiest - I would go with nVidia because their CUDA processing engine accelerates many of the applications you use. I know Adobe CS5 and Maya take advantage of it but don't know about the rest of the applications you listed.

Adobe CS5 added acceleration for multiple applications with the Mercury Playback Engine which is designed specifically for more recent nVidia cards with the CUDA feature set.,2770.html

Third party review and recommendations for use with CS5 (the card list starts about half way down the page)

CUDA (see more info below about CUDA) supported graphics cards (note that the GeForce or mainstream and gamer cards (for desktop and laptop PCs) are listed near the bottom of the page:

nVidia provides information touting how much their cards accelerate Adobe CS5, including general description about CUDA with internal links to more info for advanced users:a

Here was two GPU's (graphic cards) i was looking at...
Phenom II

Here is the computer i'm thinking of building... methinks it needs some tweaks.
CPU: Quadcore Q8200
PSU: 650W CoolerMaster
RAM: Kingston 4G @ 800 MGz
Mainboard: I don't know at this point. I was gunna buy a cheap one that would work with the things i wanted.

I stumbled accross a site about ATI and Nvidia with the 6 & 7 series... ATI had a
Geforce 6800GT vs Nvidias Geforce 6800GS which will show that while one number is lower on one, it compensates with a higher number on something else...therefore - they're the same damn thing! And look at the price difference..

Here were the differences between the two in BOLD text.

ATI Gefore 6800GTPixel Pipelines: 16
Core Clock: 350 MHz
RAM Clock: 1000MHz - 256MB DDR3
Price: $200

Nvidia Gefore 6800GSPixel Pipelines: 12
Core Clock: 400 MHz
RAM Clock: 1000MHz - 256MB DDR3
Price: $120

Anyways since i've seen this i was wondering if any of you wonderful people out there could show me a graphic the same for cheaper or maybe a better one for cheaper etc etc..

NOTE: if you could show it in AUD as i live in Australia.

A:Graphic Cards: Best for less??

Here was another Nvidia and ATI compared to one another...

ATI RADEON X1900XTXPixel Pipelines: 16
Core Clock: 650 MHz
RAM Clock: 1500MHz - 512MB DDR3
Price: $530

Nvidia Gefore 7900GTXPixel Pipelines: 24
Core Clock: 650 MHz
RAM Clock: 1600MHz - 512MB DDR3
Price: $399

Which would you choose? The crummy ATI RADEON X1900XTX for $530!! or the Nvidia Gefore 7900GTX for $399?

Vista is a very graphics intensive OS - so your system performance will depend on the graphics card more than it would in XP.

So, let us know what kind of card Imake and model) that you have now, and if it's AGP or PCIe (or even PCI) to see what kind of card we can recommend.

If i uninstall or disable one of these two graphic cards then for one time it begin the windows 8.1 but still find the second graphic card and it install the drivers and makes a continous restart.

Is there any solution for that problem?

At amd ati radeon 5740 it show a exclamation icon at control panel devices.

If you installed the AMD driver from anywhere other than from HP, it's likely that driver is not going to work properly -- because you need the switchable graphics driver from HP.

Ok guys I'm going insane, trying to build a new computer, it's my first build. I'm llooking @ this motherboard/cpu combo to order.

I'm trying to find out what cards will go with a 8X AGP video card slot. I've been thinking about a Geforce 6800GT. However under the spec on that graphics card it says that you need a AGP3 socket, what does that mean? will it work with a 8X? Please please help me. A site that has compatable graphic cards for AGP8X would be awsome.

A:AGP 8X Graphic Cards

The 6800 needs an AGP 3.0 slot which most newer motherboards have. They are almost all 8x. But I would go for an Athlon 64 processor. Its alot faster then the P4 2.8 and about the same price . If you're in the US you can get a mobo/cpu combo (Athlon 64 3000+) at Newegg for $220.

I was wondering if anyone had an answer for me. I am interested in purchasing a video card for a few workstations at work. The people do some design with autocad, although not very much. Mostly they just open up drawings and look at them and do estimations. Anyhow, i have been looking at the different types of cards and concentrating on the ATI product line. ATI's pure workstation cards are quite expensive, and i was wondering what is exactly the difference between a workstation card and a good gaming card?

Ok, Here is my problem....I'm running Windows Media Center Edition and my computer came with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 vid card in which I can screw on my cable tv cable to and watch television on my pc no problem. Then I went and got an ATI Radeon X800 GTO and installed it..I also got another HD, just a better and faster lil guy to install windows on and use my current HD for storage. Heres where the problem starts..I reinstalled my Radeon along with all the drivers and what not needed for my computer. Turned on Media Center but I couldn't get a picture I was getting a decoder error, I installed all the codecs but it still wouldn't work, then I realised I don't even have the Intel vid card installed and so I tried to do that but it wouldn't let me, did some research and found out I can't have an AGP installed the same time as a PCI card. Unfortunatly I need that AGP vid card for my media center to work considering my cable is screwed into it but at the same time I don't want to get rid of my Radeon cuz it does wonders to my games. Is there any way I can get this to work?

A:Help using 2 graphic cards

Yes, you can have AGP and PCI installed at the same time, but most likely your integrated Intel is AGP too. And AGP is one device only.

Your mobo disables the integrated stuff when it detects something in the AGP slot.

I have read all the postings on this forum that have anything to do with graphic cards but I have a few questions that remain unanswered.

Firstly I currently have in my PC a intergrated 64MB shared graphics card, I take it this means its a AGP and PCI card rolled into one.

If this is the case when I want to change up to a better graphics card do I run the new card along side the shared card or do I remove the shared card ?

I had a failed attempt at changing it today, when I took off the PC cover I notice that the shared card was in the white slot (the PCI slot I belevie) with nothing in the brown slot which I understand is for the AGP card so I placed it in there but all I got was a blank screen so I reversed the operation now I am back where I started any help would be apprecated as you can tell this is a whole new world to me.

A:Graphic Cards

OK The graphics card you have in the system right now is integrated into the motherboard. It more than likely is AGP but check the documentation that came with the computer, if you no longer have this documentation check on the manufacturers web site for you model number. But if you are going to get another video card I would suggest going to a reputable computer shop if you do not have the documentation that tells you what the type slots you have are. There are several different type AGP slots and the computer documentation will tell you what you have. If it is a PCI slot that you want to buy that is easy you have several of them and they are usually white or beige color. PCIe (PCI Express) is a different type of connector and should be shown or noted in the computer documentation.

When you turn off your computer and remove the case, you will plug in your new video card and it should be the right one. If it is not the card might go up in smoke but one thing is for sure the place you bought it from might not take it back. When you plug it in then turn on the power the computer system will automatically know that it is there and turn off the on board video card, so you do not have to worry about turning it off.

When the system boots it will more than likely ask for the installation disk, if it doesn't find the driver on the disk just run the setup program manually and when you are done your card will be ready to use.

Yes, add-in graphics cards are the way to go if you are in to graphic intensive games. Onboard graphics have vastly improved, and some can even run the newer games (motherboard with the NVIDIA nForce 430 southbridge for example), but you have to turn all the setting down. Worse, the onboard graphics get dated a lot faster. If you have a PCI-e expansion slot, your motherboards life is greatly extended (via upgrades)

That is quite a wide price range....

Hi all,
I have used my 3 monitors at the same time with Windows 2000, and now I switched to Windows XP.
But I can only display with my agp card and one pci card at the same time, or only one PCI card, but I can't use the 2 PCI cards at the same time.

I tried everything, changing the drivers of the screens and the graphic cards, changing the location of the graphic cards.
My AGP card has the IRQ 10, and the PCI cards both the IRQ 9.
I think that the problem is they share the same IRQ.
So I tried to disable the ACPI function of Windows XP but I get the blue screen of the death.

My agp card is a Nvidia TNT, and the PCI cards are both S3 Savage4.

I swear I'll help the little squirrels of the forest if you help me !
Help me please, at least for the squirrels ;-)

A:Can't use 2 PCI graphic cards at the same time

IS the AGP card an embedded one or an add on card? The IRQ sharing should make no difference. The only thing I can think of is the primary graphics adapter setting in the BIOS. Set it to PCI as primary and then try your two PCI cards.

I was hoping to somehow upgrade the graphics on my laptop. The people at the stores don't seem to care to really discuss things though. Well, I have a mobile AMD Athlon XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, 1.7 GHz. My current graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go with 16 mb of memory. I want to play Everquest 2 but when I try to run it after patching it I get the message that I need a graphics card that supports 4 textures. Is there any way to upgrade my graphics card internally? And if not, is it at all possible to set up a graphics card externally and have it connected to my laptop? I would really appreciate some feedback, thanks.

Hello all,

I have problem with graphic card installation. Make it easy for you masters to help me, following is my system specification:

- Soltek SL-85ERV2 (No LAN) Socket 478 Via P4X400A mobo, supports AGP 4x/8x (Manual in the box dated Aug 2002)
- 1024MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM
- Intel P4 2.53GHz w/ 533MHz FSB
- Firewire card, 56K PCI modem
- USB 2.0 onboard
- CD/DVD drive & CDRW drive

The first AGP card went in was the PixelView MVGA-NVG28A GeForce 4 Ti4200 128MB DDR w/ TV Out/Video In - 8x/4x AGP

After hardware installation completed, I start the PC to do BIOS setup, then install windows 98 OS, everything running smoothly (and Fast )

When windows 98 up and running, I start to install VIA 4 in 1 driver and all the bits and pieces, problems begin when DRIVER of AGP card installed. Hi there

Any good 4K UHD graphic cards out there -- I'm not a gamer so I don't need all the 3-D and Direct X stuff but a really good (2D) 4K graphics card that I could use on Photoshop etc (Pro level photos etc) without blowing up the computer or computer running really hot -- graphics cards often run mega hot even with decent heat sinks !!

Monitor to be driven is 50 inch UHD 4K TV. Any bigger than that I would need to sit at the end of the garden !!!!!

Another nice to have feature would be a switch to revert to standard (on board) graphics when I didn't need the 4K UHD video -- saves energy and 1080p is perfectly fine also on 50 inch TV - the 4K though is brilliant for things like photoshop when preparing stuff for pro magazines at high quality. (Also for watching 4K streams from Netflix !!!!).

I currently have a very bad graphic card of Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.0)
Can you tell me i can add another card with large graphic memory or i can remove old one and add new one?

A:Add or remove graphic cards

You can always add a new graphics card.

As long as it`s not a laptop.

If you could tell us the exact motherboard model, that would really help or the exact make and model of the PC.

So I'm thinkin of getting 2x ATI Radeon HD6950. And connect 3 SamsungTFT 22" with a resolution of 1920x1080 for each screen. Thought I'm new to multi monitors so i'd like to know how that would work.

1. Can i only run ATI cards with Crossfire or can you run them in SLI as well?
2. Will I need some kind of Monitor head?
3. Will there cards run alright with the new FPS games? (Atleast Medium/High settings)

A:3 Screens 2 Graphic cards

Crossfire is AMD name for connecting two GPU's...SLI is Nvidia's name for connecting two GPU's. Each use different platforms but in the end it's the can't cross connect AMD with Nvidia, that I know of. I could be wrong on that, just haven't heard of such a way. As far as the connection you should have no problem connection all 3 monitors w/dual card setup. Pretty straight forwad in Crossfire mode...I found this it might help.

I recently had a problem with my graphics card, where my grapchics card driver stopped working and 'windows recovered from a graphic card failure'. I tried multiple things to fix it but nothing worked. Eventually I took it to a PC shop where the technician saw that my graphics card had something broken.

They installed the nvidia GT240. Though the shit still gives me BSOD's. Multiple different ones and sometimes my computer will just freeze with like a broken screen and a noise of like a continues beep. The BSOD's occur and random times. Sometimes every hour, sometimes in 5 mins after the last BSOD. If im lucky it lasts for maybe 24 hours without a reboot.

So is this 100% a software problem then or might i have faulty RAM or someother thing?

PS: I would take it back to the store and tell them its not working 100% but it takes like 3 weeks for them to fix a problem.

Thanks !

I wish to know if its possible to install two graphic cards, I had an HIS radeon X1550 256 MB PCIe graphic card, it had a manufacturing defect, there was a problem in the IC. My comp technician has taken it for repairing, I asked him to get a better graphic card with better specs incase they are ready to exchange. Incase they don't exchange, can I install another graphic card with the same specs of the X1550 that I had? If I can I might get an overall of 512 mb of memory and crossfire support (hope i m right). I have a 300 W power supply.
Any valuable help with regard to this will be appreciated.

I currently have a Samsung 27 inch monitor which has a refresh rate of about 60 Htz. I wanted to upgrade my graphics card from a Geforce GTX 650 to a GeForce GTX 760 Gaming 2GB PhysX. A workmate told me that there would be no difference in quality as my monitor could only handle 60 fps so the graphic card would act the same as the old one. Basically I confused! Do I need to upgrade my monitor to a 144 Htz screen just to play a game?

Any help will be appreciated
Thanks in advance

A:Graphic Cards and Monitors

No, do not even need to probably upgrade your card to play some games. This all matters which games you will play, most of new games are pretty demanding not just from the video card and it's specs and how much RAM it has but also from systems CPU,RAM and Hard drive. Basically with higher refresh rate in games the images that move across the screen fast will look sharper with no blur in the picture, think FPS rely on cards specs also.

Did you compare each card, 760 has 256bit compared to 650 at 128 bit, definitely be better for performance in games with 760.
Specifications | GeForce
GeForce GTX 760 | Specifications | GeForce

I made a similar switch like this and notice the 650 worked harder, fan ran faster then the newer Higher memory clock and bit rate dual fan card that it did in intense games. So there is advantages because specs are better, other factors matter too.

Pretty much best thing it is going to do for you is 760 will perform better in games then 650 would, true not going to notice a big difference in picture quality, it won't work as hard. Otherwise as said does take other factors with system too. Yes 144mhz if your a big gamer is better bet. I would choose EVGA over MSI, my opinion of brands. Not in sweden though this place, idea of manufacturer.

Its cheap mainly because its not being made anymore or something like that but I dont mind that since I dont need the best out there, all I want is a 2x dvi card with a good cooler since I have a small room that get quite hot, and the current one I have runs at 70c so that dont really help me in tiny room, I am no expert in the graphic card department but what I can see this card should be atleast a bit better then the one I have right?

If possible I would like to see some suggestion on mid range graphic cards from nvidia that have a good cooler with 2x dvi slots.

hi guys. heres the thing. i'm new into video games. until now the only games that i have played were a few racing games form the past millenia.i have recently started playing FPS's ( have ended Freedom Fighters and IGI ). now i want to move on to some real stuff. but for that i need to buy an external graphic card. from what i have seen from most reviews and previews, nVidia seems to hold an edge over ATI, the later coming in close 2nd. but not quite there.right ? coming to the point. my budget is anywhere between $150 to $180.i have closed in on the GeForce 6600 series from nVidia. so here are my questions

1. is there a major difference between 6600 and 6600 GT ?
2. if yes, can i get 6600GT(new) at or under $180 ?
3. is 6600 series good enough? say for games like Half-Life 2, All those WWII games, Halo and racing games like GTA series and NFS latest editions.
4. should i focus on ATI or not ? if yes ,what are the equivalent series from ATI to that of 6600 and 6800 series from nVidia.

and i have one seperate question if i may. that is , which of the counter-strike editions is a single player game and which is not . what is this source thing in front of each CS name. ?

My friend and i have same graphic cards. the 8600 GT. the thing is he has a laptop and i have a computer. but somehow he has better index scores in the " desktop performance for windows aero" thing
why is that?

A:Same graphic cards different scores

A lot also depends on the system hardware of the two machines. Without the specifications of your friend's machine, it would be difficult to ascertain the reason for the difference in WEI scores. It would also help if you could include these scores as well. To start off, make sure that you have the latest graphics card driver installed (link provided to the latest WHQL driver for your convenience).

My friend and I used to build our systems back in the day and had a lot of fun doing them. Since then he's got kids and I've gotten married. Both of our computers are old and we are looking into buying a decent computer. Both of us are running P4's with about 1 gig of ram with agp cards in them. He recently tried to run bioshock on his computer and realized we both need an upgrade.

It's been awhile since I've really studies graphics cards and I am new to the whole SLI thing. I understand how it works but I have read a lot of reviews stating that they don't really increase preformance by that much and that they can at times hinder certain games. We are looking to build simple easy gaming machines. The machines don't need to be top of the line just something that would be able to run something like starcraft 2 or diablo 3. I would say Bioshock also as a minimum.

I started looking at Crysis requirements and I seem a bit confused. It only requires a 512 vram card with 2 gigs of ram? That seems to come stardard now a days. I checked which cards it recommended and most come in the machines I am looking at their specials.

However I am curious what people's takes are on SLI and double graphics cards are they worth it? or is it better to spend the money to get a 1gig card instead?

Yes, that SMA card is integrated into the motherboard.

You need to find out if your motherboard has an empty VGA slot, or PCI-e slot if you want to upgrade to another card.

What make is that PSU you are talking about? Highly unlikely that it will be enough to power the system you describe.

Hey all,

So I've been looking for a solution for this for a while now. I have two network cards (One for internet, one for a private network). I need to be able to switch between the networks (disable one, enable other) via an easy interface (i.e. a shortcut on desktop, etc)

I've found programs that do this very well. ( However, I am wondering if there is a way to do this under windows without the help of a third party program.

If it isnt clear yet - I essentially want to perform the same task as going into Network Connections and disabling one of the NIC cards and enabling the other - but make it quicker than that.

Anyone know of a way? I heard something about using .reg and .bat files...

Thanks in advance,

I would like to know what the difference is between APG & PCI. Someone told me that APG cards are faster than PCI. Is this a fact? Also if I am running an APG card now can I change to a PCI card. If it is possible what has to be done? I understand that APG cards are becoming scarce and hard to get is this correct? THe next question I have is -if APG cards are faster than PCI cards why would they stop producing them?Any info would be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Video/Graphic cards

You are confusing PCI with PCIe. Most if not all systems still have some PCI slots(the oldest). Generally that's where your modem or sound card is plugged in. Next came the AGP slot of dfferent varities. This slot was a major improvement since it was for the video card only. The newest type of slot for the video card is called PCIe or PCE express. It is the fastest of the three. Many boards have both PCI and AGP slots. For all practical purposes no MB will have both a AGP and PCIe video slot. (I believe there were a few that sort of did).

In your particular case having an AGP card is the best way to go. You could use a PCI video card, but that would be going backwards (and slower). To use a PCIe card you would need a new MB. You might be able to get a newer and faster AGP card however.

Is it a reality that Graphic cards are starting to lower again ?

I bought this card for $724.00 with tax 777.59 now it's in the 600.00 range Gigabyte GTX780 Ti GDDR5-3GB 2xDVI/HDMI/DP OC Graphics Cards GV-N78TOC-3GD: Computers & Accessories

is this because of the new GPU's or Bitcoin is going down ?

A:Graphic Cards Prices droping ?

Well bitcoin did fall $70. But it may be because of the Titan Z coming up.

When looking inside my computer im pretty sure I dont have SLI.
My question is what does it mean under 'Technical Features' listed for my computer on the left.
Its the a6152n

Expansion Slots PCI x 1 ? PCI Express x1 x 1 ? PCI Express x16 x 2

Does this mean I have two pci express slots x16. Also if a card says its PCI Express 2.0 does it mean it will not work in my mobo

I have connected my computer to the Philips Aurea 42PFL9900D through HDMI.

Everything seems to work fine except 1 thing and that is that the screen blinks (black screen) for 1 second and then goes back to normal sometimes.

I thought that it might be a problem with the graphics card (gtx 260) but yesterday I bought a new graphics card, just for this bloody issue (HD Radeon 5770) and I still have the same issue.

I looked it up now and it seems like alot of people have the same problem with Nvidia & Radeon and Philips TVs:
GTX280 and HDMI to DVI problems - NVIDIA Forums

Appereantly something having to do with the "EDID" thing and there is a "solution" which I dont understand at all presented for nVidia cards and Im wondering if anyone with knowledge knows how to solve this very annoying issue for Radeon (5770) or come with some suggestions?

I appreciate all the help & suggestions I can get... :\

A:[PLEASE HELP] Problem with Graphic Cards & Philips TVs..

While this may indeed be a video card/TV issue. Make sure you have the latest TV software update as well. That complaint is not unusual with Philips TVs and HDMI from TV sources as well. I don't know what country you are in, but perhaps look here:

Philips - Search results for 42PFL9900D

Pick your country and see if you have the latest SW version.

I am trying to run three montors with two graphics cards.

I have just upgraded my system to a new computer (Dell Dimension 9200 P2.4 Ghz Duo2 Processor, 2GB RAM). I have a ASUS EN7600GT PCI-E card which has dual dvi output to power two of the monitors. I need to run three screens and have bought an ATI Radeon 9550 PCI card to power the other monitor (performance not needed on this one!).

I have the latest bios updates, and all drivers installed for both graphics cards, however, my new system does not like trying to run them both simultaneously. Is there a clash/conflict on the PCI bus? Is there a way to change the memory each card references? All I get is 680 x 420 screen res. on the third screen. Looks terrible. I have tried inserting the Radeon into the other PCI slot, but still no joy. Does anyone techy know of a PCI graphics card that is compatible with the ASUS 7600 or know of a solution to resolve this?

My old system worked with default Dell AGP card and PCI Radeon card (Can't remember which one: 64MB). This was able to power three monitors. And worked from day one.

Any ones help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I dont think there is easy way to disable intel HD graphics.. it's optimus technology that means system uses intel HD to save energy for tasks that dont require much graphics processing power and switch to nvidia for more graphic intensive software. you can access more configuration options inside nvidia control panel.

I appreciate any suggestions!

I've moved your thread to the Audio and Video sub-forum, which is a more suitable place for your enquiry.

Also, I would recommend you provide us with the total wattage of your power supply.

I have been playing The Sims 2 for a while. Every thing runs good accept now and then the Sims would move like robots and slow down, which really annoys me. Someone told me that I should get a better graphic card, but I don’t know what graphic card I should get or where to get it. I want one that will make my game run faster and smoother and I would like it to be under $150.
If I get a better graphic card would it make my game run faster and soother and if so, how can I find the right graphic card for my computer?

I have an e-machine W5233 model, W-series with Window Vista Home Premium 32-bites.

A:Solved: The Sims 2 and Graphic Cards

After looking at your computer specs I will agree that a better graphics card would help your issue.

While I am not an expert on graphics cards, I will try to give you a little more info to help you make your decision

1) Graphics cards come in a couple of different versions depending on the hardware requirements. Make sure you get a PCI-Express® (PCI-E x16) version.

2) I personally would surf over to Newegg sort video cards by PCI-Express and your budget and see what comes up. I would then make a post over in either the Hardware or Gaming forum and ask for a few recommendations.

Any one know of a web site that you can compare graphic cards side by side? That way I can see which one is faster spec wise.

Thank you for your time,

Hello, I have just got the Sims 2 and I have had the dialog box come up saying that I need the DirectX 9.0c compatible blah blah blah..... and I was up late last night and I have found out that I need a new graphic card. The Graphic Card I have now is the Itel(r) 82810E Graphics Controller. What I want to know is what cards do work with DirectX 9.0c? Thank you!

Here is other information with my computer: (I don?t know what you need)

1.0 Ghz
20G/G Hard Drive
128 MB Ram (keep in mind that when I downloaded Sims 2 the installed more MBs for me
Windows XP Pro

A:Graphic Cards that will hold DirectX 9.0c

Any of the card produced by Nvidia or ATI in the past two years or so are direct X9 compaitable. given your system specs I would suggest not going for a high end or even midrange card. go for one of the budget models and even then your CPU and ram are going to bottleneck the cards performance.

you need to find out if you have an AGP slot on your motherboard. it is obviously an intel chipset but what model?

if you dont know you can download this free utility to find out.
