Use HDMI or DVI to connect monitor to computer.

Q: Use HDMI or DVI to connect monitor to computer.

Hello all,

I have a quick question. My new graphics card has a HDMI port and I was wondering if there is any advantage of using that port to connect my graphics card to my monitor over the normal DVI port? Is it worth buying the cable that I would need to do this>

many thanks,

A: Use HDMI or DVI to connect monitor to computer.

The only difference is HDMI carries audio and video and DVI carries Video only.

Hi, I recently figured out that I can plug my Xbox 360 Video and Audio Cables into my computer. What me and my father tried, was that we tried opening windows media center (Since we have windows vista). We have been trying for 4 hours now, using a bunch of different methods. I'm not that very techie (Which is why I'm asking you guys) so I'll use the best terms I can. My main question is, how do I make my Xbox 360 screen appear on my monitor so I can play it.
Sidenote:If this actually works is there a way I can record what I'm playing?

Thank you all in advance.

A:Can't connect Xbox 360 to HDMI Computer Monitor.

Bit confused here. Why are you plugging it into the computer? Can you not just plug it into the monitor? Most have several ports, think one of them should work for you- lots have a HDMI input, that may be your solution.

I use 2 monitors (see below). Both worked fine for over a year then the digital monitor suddenly went blank and the computer now has problems booting and displaying. Everything works fine when nothing is connected by HDMI. Both monitors work when connected as analogs (one at a time because I only have one pin connection).

I have confirmed:
There is no malware/virus on my computer.
HDMI cable is fine (I have 2 new cables, and switching cables doesn't change anything).
I think all drivers are up to date
Windows 7 Pro is up to date.

Brand new mac mini. Want to use HDMI, but when I connect cable, boot up mac and turn on Monitor, the mac starts to go into new product mode, then quickly picture switches to 2 alternating graphic pictures of what looks to be 2 different computers. I gather this means monitor is looking for a suitable source?? By way of a test of the monitor, I hooked it up to a Macbook Pro using DVI and it worked fine. Just no luck with the HDMI. Thanks for any help.

Hello. I use Windows Vista on a nearly 6 year old Acer Aspire 5930.

My old monitor stopped working, so I borrowed one from a friend. That will connect through VGA(my old cable), but for some reason everything got a greenish look, impossible to use for anything besides reading.

So I also borrowed his HDMI-cable. I connect them both, it makes the sound indicating it's connected, but nothing happens. If I have both VGA/HDMI at the same time the VGA works. If I remove VGA it won't work. I've tried numerous different combinations of this.

I've tried the Fn+F5 thing. Only works with the VGA.

Tried rebooting it, both with VGA and HDMI connected. Same result.

I'm fairly certain I've connected this pc to a tv 2 years ago, but then the sound didn't work, but the visual was working fine.

I've cracked the screen on the laptop. Everything I've been trying I've done with VGA connected.

The video driver is up to date.

The monitor is definitely working on a different pc. The VGA is probably working. My old monitor died due to power failure(It just turned off and won't come back on) so there's no reason to believe the VGA-cable isn't broken either.

A:Won't connect laptop to monitor with HDMI

This is one old box and I'd suggest that the integrated video chip is nearly dead or at least the HDMI aspect of it is.

Hi all,

I'm a bit desperate so I came here hoping to find some answers.

So I wanted to connect a second monitor (which is a TV screen) to my PC to watch movies, but suddenly my PC wont send any signal to my TV, so I tried connecting all kinds of HDMI cables to all kind of TVs/monitors laying around in the house, and my conclusion is that whenever I tried to connect a second monitor with HDMI directly to my PC it wont show anything and it also doesn't show up in my Display settings on my PC. So from what I can tell the problem lays with the PC itself (within windows probably).

I have up to date display drivers so that is not the problem.

Also something worth mentioning is that my main PC monitor is connected with DVI, and the DVI connector works just fine on every device.

Hope someone can help me find an answer soon!

Hey, I'm going to be headed off to college soon, and I'm switching from my old desktop to a new Razer Blade 2014, I am planning on still bringing my 2nd monitor to college and want to use it in my dorm room, My Monitor does not have a HDMI, but that is the only port on my Laptop. I thought this would be simple, because I was already running a HDMI to DVI-D on my desktop to my GTX 770 graphics card. While connected to my desktop, the monitor works normally. When I plug it into my laptop, I get nothing in response, The laptop will not detect the Monitor in screen resolution or in control panel. My monitor is a LG Flatron and my laptop is the Razer Blade 2014. I don't understand why it doesn't just plug and play like it did on my PC. Any help? Also, I am on windows 10 but the problem happened on Windows 8.1 aswell

A:Laptop will not connect to second monitor via HDMI

Has it ever worked? You may want to test using a different monitor and a true HDMI to HDMI cable, just to verify the laptop port functions properly.

I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? This concerns an HP late-model notebook, Win7 Home Prem x64, used as a desktop with HDMI-connected 1080p 21", plus usb mouse/kbd. The goal is to make this as simple as possible: desktop-like. Just turn it on and work.
It seems that either/both coming out of sleep state or simple shutdown and startup the Monitor stays offline because, I suppose, its getting no signal from the notebook. I tried to duplicate this on a dell notebook in my 'lab' but I only have a vga connect to work with - it just works. in fact I have trouble with the usb port but not with the monitor persisting.

is there a chance there is some interplay between vendor/maker-specific implentations, plus perhaps the embedded Intel HD video controller?

A:How to make HDMI-connect Ext Monitor persist?

this could be an external device problem, somehow messing up allocation of resources @ boot. my brother has a new i7 super machine, hooked up with a monitor(dvi) and an hdmi bigsceen hooked up as well.
no problems. then he hooked up a firewire card-hooked up to an external mixer, something like that. he had identical/very similar issues. when we troubleshot, i first said eliminate any possibilities no matter how remote.

long story short.

when the external device is powered up his main monitor did not work when coming out of hibernate mode. with it off(not the card just the devise) all is well.

from what i could assertain, didn't sound like your problem. i know this sort of deal does not usually occur with printers and scanners. but it is somewhere to start(or end if nothing else is hooked up in such a fasion).

good luck dude

Hi

I have an i5-based DG67BL intel motherboard computer that has a DVI and HDMI ports with one DVI monitor connected to the DVI port.

I added an GeFORCE 210 graphics card to it that has a VGA and a DVI ports and connected additional two monitors to it.

So far computer is working fine with three monitors configured in windows as extended desktop.

This motherboard has just one PCIeX16 slot. It has 2 PCIeX1 and a PCI slot that are vacant.

I need to connect yet another DVI monitor. I took a HDMI<->DVI cable, connected it to the onboard HDMI port. the monitor was not detected.

I tried various combinations of monitors and bios settings in vain. Under no circumstances the HDMI port drove the DVI monitor.

The cable is working fine elsewhere.

What did I do wrong ? Is there something I need to buy/replace for this to work ?

Thanks !

A:How to connect additional DVI monitor to HDMI port

you 'need' to connect a 4th monitor? I recommend getting graphics card(s) to support your endeaver, but up to you.

Why don't you get a dvi to vga or maybe its a vga to dvi cord and connect the dvi monitor to the graphics card vga port?

Does it have to go into the HDMI port? HDMI carries sound as well as the video signal, dvi only carries video, and vga carries a lesser quality video

A VGA cable can do easily resolutions like 1600x1200. Unless you have a really long cable, then the problem is the VGA input on your TV.

Hi, I have recently purchased a HDMI to DVI cable so I could play my PS3 on my PC monitor. The first day it worked fine, but I noticed that there red lines/dots flickering in dark areas of my screen, mostly on the top right of my monitor.

Sometimes there is this huge gray line running from left to right on my monitor that flickers on and off. Sometimes my screen will black out for 2-3 seconds. For the most part, it runs perfectly. But these problems usually happen once or twice a day and persist for anywhere between 10 minutes to 1 hour.

I should also note that my monitor is HDCP compatible. But just in case it was the monitor, I tried another old monitor I had which was also HDCP compatible. Again, same problem.

Is this a regular problem when trying to run a set up or like this? Or is it the PS3 itself and I need a new one? Or is it the HDMI to DVI cable? I have tried googling this for many hours, but have little to no idea what to google for and usually end up with stuff about TVs which are unrelated to my problem. Thanks in advance.

When I hook it up with DVI to DVI it works just fine. But I need the DVI to HDMI cable.

*Also, when I do the DVI to the HDMI the taskbar also doesn't show up on the monitor so I can't really do anything.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Hi,

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Hi,

Sounds complicated (To me anyway)

I'm running Windows 7 64bit with 2 video cards (NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and NVIDIA GeForce GT 240) as I use 3 monitors.

My TV is located where it is not possible to run a cable to it from the PC, It is however beside a CAT5 box that is connected to a CAT5 box beside my PC.

I use a TP-LINK TL-MR3420 router for my PC and wireless access upstairs.
It is connected to a Belkin Share wireless router set up purely as an access point downstairs via the 2 cat boxes mentioned earlier for wireless access and a wired connection to my xBox.

I want to use one of the spare video card ports to connect to my HDTV
I have a HDMI output on the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and a DVI output on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 that are not in use.

I think HDMI is the way to go as I believe I can use a S/PDIF cable to connect my motherboard to my NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and so I will have audio as well as visual.

My question is:
Can I use a HDMI to CAT5 converter, connect a HDMI cable to the video card output, connect one end of a CAT5 cable to that, the other end to my TP-LINK TL-MR3420 router (Which is connected to my Belkin Share wireless router)
Take a CAT5 to HDMI converter and run a HDMI cable from my Belkin Share wireless router to my HDTV?
Is it possible to do this via a router at all?

Any help is much appreciated ..

A:Connect PC to HDTV via HDMI -> CAT5 -> Router -> Access Point -> CAT5 -> HDMI -> TV

Hi and welcome to TSG.

The HDMI to CAT5 converter most likely sends raw high speed serial video through all four twisted pairs of wires in the CAT5 cable rather than converting the video data to Ethernet compatible data packets. Any Ethernet router or switch would not know what hit it.

If anybody could help me with this it'd be much appreciated:

Just built myself a new compter, everything's all set up and appears to be working fine, but when I turn it on nothing happens monitor-wise. All my fans are on, I can hear the hard drive and cd drive powering on, but all I get from the monitor is a "no connection" screen for a second before it goes into power save mode. I've gotten the monitor to work with other computers no problem, and I've tried both vga and dvi connections with mine with no success. I was (or tried to be) careful putting it together, and as far as I can tell everything's hooked up fine internally. I don't get any beeps at all when I turn on and there's a little green light on both the motherboard and video card, which I take to be a good sign. I've tried running it with the motherboard and whatnot hooked up outside of the case itself with the same result. At this point I'm afraid that something somewhere is just dead, but I'm not really sure if it's the gpu, motherboard or processor. Any input anybody could give me on this would be fantastic. 2nd monitor is an lg2241

- downloaded a driver from LG but don't see that it did any kind of install. Double clicking it's zip file opened it and clicking on the three files did nothing but open gibberish code.
- at screen resolution I see multiple displays and I have it set on extended.
- Clicked detect and identify
- #2 says display device on vga
- tried unplugging and reconnecting the cable (hdmi to vga)

I'm lost. SOS!

lol!

Thx,

A:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

Performance Monitor: When I try to connect to the other machine, I get the error "Unable to connect to machine" I have made sure that the correct firewall settings are in place, as well as adding the user to the Performance Monitor Users and Performance Log Users

Computer Management: I get this error "Event Viewer could cannot connect to "CHLOE-PC". The Error reported is: The RPC Server is unavailable"

A:Unable to connect to Computer Management and Performance Monitor

What's the DNS setup as? Are you trying to connect via IP address or host name?

Hi guys,

I decided to purchase a Samsung LED monitor and have connected it up to my pc using a HDMI cable. I recieve the picture on the screen but no audio, been spending the majority of today trying to solve the issue but have landed short.

My set up is a AMD A10-5800K APU, 8 GB ram and using windows 7 64 bit. The monitor I purchased is a Samsung LED monitor T32E310EX.

Currently the speaker symbol has an x next to it, when I click it it tries to fix the problem. When I right click it and go to playback device it shows Digital Audio HDMI (High Definition Audio Device) as my default device but no sound bars next to it. If anyone could help me out that would be great thanks

Very suddenly a few days ago my PC (Alienware x51 r2) froze and then crashed whenever I tried to play a game. I've had the computer for 1.5 years without a single problem. The crash was more of a lock-up if anything. The screen froze but all sound continued to play, until that stopped 5 seconds later. The monitor then went black and the computer made the BIOS beep sound. The monitor then refused to notice the PC, being unable to show anything.
This crash happened twice, each time I got the monitor to find the PC again the crash repeated itself. I could only get the monitor to find the PC after multiple restarts.
Then, I lost it again. This time when it started up, I launched startup repair once the screen finally worked. The computer crashed again during this, and I haven't got the screen to find it since.

The crash is always followed by that startup BIOS beep sound, and sometimes if I just leave the computer on for a while even while the screen isn't working, I'll hear that sound again, meaning that it's crashed again.

I can't get any specs for you really, as I can't even see them with this monitor problem.
I know the computer is Alienware x51 r2, the graphics card is Nvidia in the 700s, and that's about all I know.
Please tell me if there's anything I can do, thanks!

A:Games caused my computer to lock-up and crash, now it can't connect to my monitor

sounds to me like the graphics card might be a bit dead or at least on its way out. its not a case of the monitor finding the pc, its the other way around. i could be wrong and im sure someone might have other ideas what could be the problem. try the card in another pc maybe if u have access to one?

Hello,
I have a Dell XPS running windows 7 and I cannot connect to a TV with an HDMI cable. Both the PC and the Sharp flatscreen have HDMI ports and I have used a HDMI connection successfully on the TV before. I have restarted the computer with the HDMI connection already made and when the computer restarts the picture shows on my TV up until the point where windows boots up then the TV goes blank, my computer is recognizing the TV because it shows it in the display settings but no matter what I do I can't get a picture to show. Im using a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 display adapter, if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

HDMI and DVI are both digital and your monitor probably is only able to switch between analog (VGA) and digital so you cannot switch between HDMI and DVI>>> That's my guess.

Hi, I connected my Fujitsu laptop to the "dining room" Tv (Its a cheap technika from Tesco 22") via HDMI cable, with immediate results.

I then tried to connect the laptop to my new monitor Asus VE228HR 21.5". This is my main monitor connected to my desktop PC via VGA with a dual connection to a 2nd monitor. My desktop dual boots Ubuntu & windows.

(My desktop PC has only VGA connection. No DVI or HDMI) Graphics nvidia dual Quadro nvs290

The problem is I have no access to change the settings on the monitor from VGA to HDMI unless I power up my desktop PC.

When I do this and bring up the monitor menu to enter input select, the ist option VGA is highlighted but when I try to move down to select HDMI the menu disappears therefore I cant change it. Any ideas welcome and appreciated thanks

HDMI does not appear in the BIOS of the desktop PC. Simply not there so of course no options to enable or
disable. Dont know if this affectes the properties of the monitor.

Most monitors should auto sense the input. If the VGA cable is left attached, it may default to that. Have you tried it with only an HDMI cable connected?

I just ordered a new PC that supports VGA, DVI and HDMI. My monitor however supports RGB (which I am currently using) and also DVI-D with HDCP. I am wondering, should I go buy a DVI-D (for monitor) to HDMI (for pc) cable or just DVI to DVI cable. I spent a lot of money (imho) on a new cpu, and want to make sure I get the best graphical experience from my gaming. The video card that comes with the cpu is the ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB. I would like to avoid buying a new monitor for now (though I realize I could probably use an upgrade, but I would like to stick it out with my SyncMaster 906BW if I can: http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/samsung-syncmaster-906bw/4507-3174_7-32327972.html ) Any suggestions on how to set this up with proper cables would be greatly appreciated! HiI bought this laptop last week and have attempted to connect it to my TV to use as an external display as I used to do with my old Dell laptop but have been unable to do it. I know 'how' to do it but when I connect the HDMI, it just doesn't detect the signal so I am unable to select any of the options (Extend/ Duplicate etc). I have tried looking at the Graphics Properties to no avail. I just can't find the option to change anything that will actually make it worse. The HDMI cable definitely works (I have tried it with another device and it worked fine). Can I have some advice please? I'll also stress again that this is a brand new laptop suggesting that all drivers etc are up to date. ThanksAlex

Hello

I am trying to connect my Laptop Dell XPS M1730 windows 7 (2x 8800M GTX cards) - to my HD ready TV from LG.

If I use a HDMI calbe directly from my desktop pc, it works perfectly (I don't even need to turn down my resolution)

But my laptop does not have an HDMI port. So I bought a DVI-D(single) to HDMI cable. And connected them up.
- The TV detected something. And then said "no signal" on the screen.
- My laptop screen went black when I connected.

Do anyone know how to fix this? Am I using the wrong cable?
DVI-Digital Single link to HDMI is the cable I am using.
The laptop has DVI Female connector.

The exact cable I am using below in the picture:

A:Can't connect DVI-D(single) to HDMI on TV

When you try this, what resolution and refresh rate is your monitor on your laptop running?

What is the native resolution of your TV?

I've seen some strange things when connecting up to a TV from a laptop where either the TV can't handle the resolution/refresh rate that the laptop is pushing out or the laptop can't push the right resolution/refresh rate.

It's an unlikely solution, given that you have good video cards in the laptop - but try this - set the resolution as low as you can set it - 1024x768 for example, and the refresh rate as high as you can - 75hz, for example. Then plug in the TV. If that works you may need to play around with the resolutions to see what happens.

Also, when you connect the laptop - and if the screen goes black on it - hit windows key + P, then hit the "right arrow" key on your keyboard once, and then hit enter. That might switch the display back to the computer - if it works you can then troubleshoot further.

A:Building a PC to connect to HD TV via HDMI

Hi,

Personally I would go for a Gigabyte board if you can find one that suits your needs. I have generally found them to be better quality than Asus, you may well get similar answers from others on here, especially if you have that sort of money to spend on it.

maybe something like: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/195332 which is a bit cheaper but probably better (in my opinion).

I also, personally, think ATI have the edge with graphics at the moment. I have always been a bit of an NVidia fan but the general concensus seems to go toward ATI currently.

What other specs are you looking at, I am assuming your are looking at around £1500-£2000 easy, for the full rig if you are spending that much on the graphics card and motherboard alone, wish I had that sort of money to spend on a PC haha.

So, as the title says I'm having trouble with the connection from my laptop to my tv through hdmi, and I've tried quite a few things to solve the problem, but I'm not the most gifted person with computers or technology as a whole, I've simply run out of ideas.

Before I moved out from my parents' house in november, I'd lent a tv of theirs (a non-smart lg tv) that worked perfectly with my current laptop and hdmi, so I had to get a new tv+hdmi. So I went out and bought a new tv (LG 42LF580V). After a week it stopped being able to connect with my new 5 metre hdmi cable, so I went out and got another hdmi cable (also 5 metres). That worked for about 2 days and then that also stopped working, so I figured it was the tv. I sent it back and ordered a new tv (Samsung UE40J5515). I never got that to work with my hdmi cables and laptop, so I sent that back too. Some time in the middle of all that I've had my laptop connected to various things at school through hdmi, and I've also had it connected to both my neighbour's and my friend's tv so see if something was wrong with my laptop, but I had no problem with that.

Xmas was approaching and as I went back to my parents' house on holiday, I of course brought my laptop and one of the first things I did was connect it to the non-smart lg tv that I used to use. It connected instantly and worked without any problem at all for the next two weeks until I had to go home.

A:Can't connect my PC (with EAH5770) to TV via HDMI

Confused. Do you have a display running already, and this is a second monitor? Or is this the only one?
I assume it is a second monitor, as you say you cannot see it, which implies you have a screen to see it on. try using ONLY the HDMI connection, see what happens then, ensuring that the TV is set to the correct input. I have a triple monitor set, and th eHDMI has had no detection problem so far. The only thin gI can think of is to change the first monitor to the second DVI slot. the 5770 should have 2 dvi and 1 hdmi i believe, one of the dvi is actually an alternative input for the HDMI.

Putting it simply ( I confused myself, there!) try just the HDMI. That should work fine, then plug in the second monitor.
If that does not work, or you get nothing for the HDMI, try the DVI in the second slot. Either way, should cure it.

When I connect my notebook to the TV using HDMI the sound does not come from the TV it comes from the notebook. Also, when I go on to manage audio devices in my Control panel the TV does not show up even in the disable and hidden list. I am not sure if this relates to the issue but I have a code 10 on my HD audio driver if that does anything to affect the sound. Please help

A:No Sound from TV when i connect with HDMI

Hi: Yes, that is the problem (code 10). Since the graphics drivers are fine, let's not mess with those by running the graphics driver file. Let's just play with the HDMI audio driver file inside the Intel graphics driver. First, download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd line is for 64 bit. http://www.7-zip.org/ After you install 7-Zip, download and save, but do not run this graphics driver. This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. File name: sp72370.exe After you download and save the above graphics driver file, right click on it, and select 7-Zip from the list of items. Have 7-Zip extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp72370). Once that is done, go to the device manager and click on the problem HD audio device. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC, and you should be good to go.

Hey guys, I know this isnt a playstation forum but You guys have always helped in the past.
So my problem is that I have a playstation (I do have a cool gaming pc, but i wanted a cool blu-ray player too)
Now for the real problem - I have it hooked up to my Benq G2420HD, and it has been happily chugging away at full HD (1920x1080) for awhile, but then all of a sudden it stopped outputting to that resolution outputting at all, so I researched and then found how to reset to low resolution (by holding the power button for 5 seconds when you turn it on) so then I started testing and the max it will go is 1080i (1680x1050) nice, but not full HD whenever I do it it now goes all garbled and nothing displays. So I updated the software and firmware and same issue, so I bought a new HDMI cable (thought I'd need another in the future anyway) and even went and tried on a full HD tv, which still didnt work.
So I rang up Sony after all this and the toolbox says that he cant help me because I used it on a monitor and it was designed for TV - I think that is complete bull because it worked before and now it doesnt, warranty me sony?
anyone think of anything else that I can do apart from taking a lawsuit against sony - I know PC is so much easier to work with, but it would be good if I could get sony on a dos or terminal level and fix some stuff up.

A:Playstation 3 to monitor via HDMI

Sony's a bunch of ass. Their products look cool, sure, but once you buy something they promptly try to screw you on the margins and that includes restricting cross-platform compatibilities. I guaran-damned-tee you that full HD would work if your "computer monitor" was a Sony.

I was thinking I'd connect a PlayStation3 to my monitor with a HDMI cable, but then I learned about the HDCP stuff, and my monitor is non-hdcp. The only thing I could find that might make that work is the HDFury, but that costs $249 (+399 for ps3 + 50 for game = $698 to play Metal Gear Solid 4).

So component vs composite, which can give me the highest resolution/best experience on a Optiquest Q241wb?

Hello! This is my very first post on this site. I was looking for a good place for tech support and this was recommend, so now I'm here!

Alright - here's the story.

A few months ago, my neighbor moved. They gave away some of their stuff, one of which is a ViewSonic VG2427wm monitor, which was given to me. At first glance, it didn't look like much. Then I decided to some research on it, and it turns out that it's actually an HD monitor back from 2009. It even displays in full 1080p! After I found that out, I wanted to try out my Wii U with it . . . That's when I ran into a pretty big roadblock. Turns out that even though it can do HD, the oh so sensible people at ViewSonic decided to NOT incorporate an HDMI port! (Weird, right?)

Anyway; it has two input ports - a DVI-D port and a VGA port. I've been using my laptop with the monitor through the VGA port, and it displays at 1920x1080. Little did I know that VGA is quite archaic when compared to DVI and HDMI. I just went on vacation to the States (I live in the Bahamas) - and I was able to pick up a really affordable (yet well-reviewed) DVI-HDMI (male-to-male) adapter cable, made by ULTRA. Since I couldn't bring my monitor with me, I had to wait to get all the way back home here in the Bahamas.

Why, oh why?

I just purchased this from Dell directly. I am unable to get the proper resolution for this monitor. I wanted to run the setup at D:\drivers\setup.exe and I get this error

"Please check if Dell 3007WFP is Plug-In!"

Well, it IS plugged in and powered on. I see my desktop there (I have it set to duplicate view between my laptop and this monitor). The other problem is that Vista is showing it at 1280x800 max resolution. However, my laptop video card is Nvidia 8400M GT which supports the maximum resolution of this monitor.

I'm using this cable:
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimi...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1196726006&sr=8-1

I am unable to install the driver because of the above error. I'm using Vitsa 64bit Ultimate. Please help me out.

Nothing happens when I press + or - as well. I ran this file and rebooted, but see no changes:

D:\drivers\3007wfp\Vista\3007wfp64.exe

Dell has no drivers to download at all: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=LCD_TV_W3007&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

I was told on Dell's forums this:
The video card port that the monitor is connect to must be a DVI-D Dual Link connector to get 2560x1600. If not, you will only get 1280x800.Click to expand...

My Sony laptop only has an hdmi port, not DVI.

How can I work around this? I don't see why it should not work. It worked
fine on my 22" samsung (hdmi to dvi).

Would this adapter help at all?

I was told that I need a dual link dvi cable.

http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=3308&sku=40288

Is this good? Its a dual link dvi, but not sure about the hdmi. How do I know what type hdmi port my Sony laptop has? Their site does not mention anything about this and I won't bother asking their lame support.

Someone on Dell's forum said the hdmi has to be dual link as well (29 pin).

Hello all,

I'm not very informed on computers (although I try and poke around for info) so I'm not sure if I simply made a faux pax or what.

I tried connecting my 24" Dell monitor into my desktop using an hdmi cable. It works, but it also reduced my screen size by an inch or two. Like a black box around my screen. I've used a vga cable through a DVI converter and it worked fine... is it simply not possible to use the HDMI to connect to the monitor?

(I tried it because both my desktop and monitor have an HDMI hookup... so why not?)

I'd really like to get this to work, so any help would be appreciated

A:HDMI Monitor size

Welcome Rhod!

Try experimenting with your screen resolution and refresh rate. Right-click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution.

You can also try updating your graphics card drivers. Go into Device Manager, find your card, and select Update drivers from the right-click menu.

Hope this helps,

Hi people, thanks for reading,

I have just been using a vacuum on the fan of the computer and unplugged everything. I've now gone to use it again and the AOC monitor is saying 'no signal' I've connected the HDMI cable up just how it was before so I'm completely stumped as to why it's not working now.

I've tried quite a lot of things but would be interested to know what your suggestions are.

Many thanks again,

A:Aoc Monitor No Signal - HDMI

Could be hardware damage. Vacuums create static electricity. Static destroys electronics.

Test with a different monitor to verify the computer or monitor is faulty. Or test that monitor on a different computer.

Hi,

I currently want to connect a 2nd monitor to my computer. My graphics card has one VGA output, which is what my main monitor is connected to, and an HDMI output too.

The other monitor I have only has a VGA input, I'm wondering if there's a cable or converter I can get so that I can connect my 2nd VGA monitor to the HDMI output?

Thanks

Ryan

A:VGA monitor, but HDMI port

I think,as your 2nd monitor is not hdmi compatable then your hdmi out form your computer may not give hi def capabilities.
You can get a converter transcoder here http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDfury-1080P-HDMI-Converter-Transcoder/dp/B000SOPWS8 that might do the trick. Could be right for your situation.
Please hang around here and see if anyone else can chip in with suggestions.

Just got a new monitor today, Samsung S24D300HL which I have plugged into my Nvidia Geforce GTX 745 video card via HDMI.

Picture is great no problems there. However I have no sound at all. I've updated my graphics driver via Nvidia Experience program version 361.43 I've right clicked and went to Nvidia control panel audio tab and my monitor was listed there as audio under HDMI still no sound. I've restarted the computer a couple times. Checked Windows update. Switch to a different HDMI cord and still no sound. I've right clicked the speaker in the taskbar and went to playback and what I have is. Nvidia HDMI Output (Port 0) and Nvidia HDMI Output (Port 1) both say not plugged in. I'm confused about the Port 0 and Port 1 because there is only one HDMI spot on the back of the card.

Any help appreciated.
Thank you

I have recently hooked up two Samsung Syncmaster 2243s to my HP Compaq laptop at work (waiting on an email for the specific model for the Compaq and Nvidia Quadro video card). Unfortunately, the second monitor says "Check Signal Cable" and will not display anything. Here's how I have it set up:

The first monitor is hooked up to the laptop on the VGA port and works fine. I have used extended display with my laptop screen and Syncmaster with no trouble. I hooked up the second monitor to the HDMI port in my laptop with a DVI-HDMI cable. At no point (eg. when restarting) does the monitor show anything but "Check Signal Cable".

I have updated my drivers (windows and Nvidia) and tried removing my display adapter and restarting, forcing the computer to reinstall the drivers. I have rebooted with the second monitor attached and unatatched with no luck.

The key point is that the computer recognizes the second monitor (with the Nvidia control panel I can turn off the laptop screen and set both monitors as my extended display - second monitor still says no signal although the first monitor, which works, behaves as if it were part of an extended monitor). Further, the second monitor works normally, as it was used on a previous laptop via VGA. What could cause the "no signal cable"? I did buy a second DVI-HDMI cable with the same result. Any help would be most appreciated.

A:Second monitor HDMI no signal

typically, dual monitors is not done with VGA, or if so, is implemented using a 'Y' cable.

A video card built to support dual video out is usually DVI with Y or two DVI ports on the card.

So my dad ruined Chritmas.... He opened our new Sony Bravia 40" LCD early This one has a VGA port on the back which I would use with my computer, but the maximum resolution supported is 1400*1050 @ 60HZ (per the user manual). And, no, it doesnt work, I tried. This would be fine, but its not a widescreen resolution and the supported resolutions that are widescreen are way too low. So now to the question; If I use a DVI-HDMI cable from my computer, will the tv support a picture in its native resolution, 1920*1080? The manual directly says: "do not connect a PC to the TV's HDMI input. Use the VGA input instead when connecting a pc." Seems fishy to me.... Hopefully someone knows something and can help me??

I got a new pc tower yesterday but i can only connect to my monitor through vga and to be honest everything looks like a huge blur. The graphics card that came with the tower supports HDMI and i know my monitor is 1080p so i was wondering if it would be worth buying the wire that conects the two. I hear they are only around 40-50 pound.

What could i expect quality wise? Will it be a huge difference or not every noticeable.
All help and answers are greatly appreciated

Have you checked the resolution settings? that could be your only problem. 50 British Pounds sounds like a lot, but I must plead ignorance when it comes to the normal cost of things over there.

Hi Everyone! Been a while since I posted. I recently purchased a new TV. I put my old TV (2 years old, Dynex 42" LCD) in my bedroom. I bought a new HDMI cable and plugged into the TV at HDMI 1 and into the back of the computer. There is only one HDMI port on the back of the PC, which is a Dell studio XPS that I bought a year ago. It is win 7 with Nvidia GE Force GTS 240. After I plugged everything in, I turned on my PC and the TV. The TV has the blue "no input" screen, and the PC didn't detect it. I went into the display settings by going Control Panel- Appearance and Personalization- Display- Screen Resolution. I clicked on detect, and it didn't detect it. I clicked on the picture to add a monitor and selected "Multiple Monitors". Resolution is 1024x768 and the displays are set as duplicate. I went into the control panel for NVIDIA and clicked a link for "Display not shown". It opened a window to perform a rigorous display detection and a box that popped up said "Rigorous display detection was unable to find additional displays. However, some televisions are not detectable like computer displays. If this is the case, and you are certain your television is connected, the television connection can be enabled and your television will be available. Would you like the television connection enabled?"

I clicked YES!

The box that I opened to do the rigorous test opened again. In the bottom section there is a grayed out check ... Read more

Hi, I have one monitor hooked up via VGA, the other is by HDMI. When I start up my computer, they're both on up to the point of logging on to Windows. They'll both say "Starting Windows" then one goes to sleep. I know my graphics card can support dual monitors.
Is it just Windows that's the problem, or is there something else?

A:Dual monitor - One VGA, one HDMI

What are your system specs...mainly your hardware? Is the dual monitors actually monitors or is one of them an HD TV? If they are both monitors are they the same make and model? How are you wanting to setup and use the monitors?

I just got a Hanns-G HH281 28" HDMI LCD monitor.

Currently I'm using VGA converted with an adapter to DVI, cause my video card does not have VGA ports.

The monitor came with an HDMI to DVI wire, I tried using it, but I would just get a message saying it can't find the signal.

My video card is a GeCube Radeon X1950Pro 512MB which does not have HDMI nor is it HD. Is that the reason?

Also, if that is the problem, can someone link me a cheap Radeon HD card that is as good if not better than my current card? I've been thinking about upgrading to one of those cheap $35 Radeon HD cards from Newegg, but the problem is, I don't know a whole lot about video cards, like I have absolutely no idea how many stream processors my video card has, etc.

I know the majority of the cheap Radeon HD cards have like only 80 steam processors and the expensive ones have like 800. I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

Any help is appreciated.

A:Solved: Using HDMI With Monitor

Depends on what you do as far as graphics go.
Is it just for video or gaming too?
If just video,a 3450 would do.
If you're a gamer,you probably want at least a 4650.

The hdmi port may be the secondary input on the monitor.
Check the monitor menu to see if you can switch inputs.

Hi, when I was studying abroad, I was using a Samsung B2330 LCD monitor with the system which specs I have mentioned below. I have an HDMI cable that I used with that monitor and it worked like a breeze no problems. I even connected my PS3 to the same monitor but with a separate cable and that worked with no problems as well.

When I went back home I took the PC but I left the monitor behind. That's because I have the exact same model monitor at home. I connected my PC to the home monitor with HDMI but it doesn't display anything at all. The same problem with the DVI cable (To be honest I never used the DVI cable with the monitor abroad). I do get signal from the RGB cable without fail. Oh yeah, I also use the same HDMI cable I used abroad. At first I thought it was the cable's fault but I get the same result with 2 other HDMI cables as well. Plus all 3 HDMI cables work fine with my PS3, which also doesn't work with the home monitor. Now it cant be the monitor's HDMI port fault because my brother plays his XBOX360 on the same monitor through HDMI without problems.

The main problem is i'm not getting signals from both HDMI and DVI even though all my drivers are up to date. It cannot be the computer's HDMI port fault as well because it works when I connect it to my 40" Samsung LCD TV. I did not change the configuration of my PC at all from when I came back home and when I was abroad. Please help. Thank you.

side note when I upgraded my 42 inch LCD Tv to HDMI cable---finally got a cable tv box that had a HDMI port.
I ran into issues with digital Content Protection my tv is older than my new cable tv box.

my HDMI cable works but not sure at what speed it running at.

Hi guys... It was just this morning when I found that my DVI - HDMI cable was unplugged, it seemed that my Mom was kind of "super cleaning" my room, and she unconsciously removed the cable from my Samsung SyncMaster 2494. When I get to plug it back I find that the computer won't detect the monitor using the DVI - HDMI cable (Which has been used continuously for the past year and a half).

I decided to connect the computer via VGA... Poof, it works... Then I decide to test the DVI - HDMI cable with another device such as my Xbox 360. I plug it in, turn it on, and poof it works! I got astonished thinking that the output of my video card was damaged, and decided to test it with 2 more HDMI capable computers... Each of them DID NOT emit the signal nor detected the display.

I did a reset on the monitor, recycled the power, and I don't know what to do know... My Dell XPS M1530 (8600M GT) won't detect my monitor via HDMI anymore!.....

Help! Thanks XD.

P.S: ATM, besides the 360, I do not own a device which is HDMI capable.

A:Monitor Won't Accept DVI - HDMI PCs but 360 Yes

Try uninstalling all the monitors listed in Device Mangler, shut down the computer, switch cables to the HDMI, then start it back up.
