Lenovo Y560 ATI driver with switchable graphics question

Q: Lenovo Y560 ATI driver with switchable graphics question

Hi, I have also posted this in Lenovo's forum, but perhaps someone here have a solution as well. Recently my HDD crashed, so I plugged in a new HDD with a fresh Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I am trying to install the driver for my ATI HD 5730. I downloaded the driver from the Lenovo support page, installed it, and it installed sucessfully. I clicked "view log", all successful;I went to the device manager, it recognized the HD 5730 as well as the Intel Graphic. CCC is in the context manual of the desktop, but it doesn't open. However, the resolution of the screen remains at 1024 x 768. When I restart the computer, it says something along the line of "No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning." I tried to uninstall it, from program files, then cleaned the rest with Driver Sweeper, and then cleaned registry with Glary Uitility. Reinstalled, and same result. I even tried to uninstall all display drivers, and let Windows find the "new" hardware. Windows recognized and install the driver for the Intel Graphic, but failed to install anything for the 5730. I searched the web and I can't seem to find a solution that works. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello dear community, recently I bought myself a Lenovo ideapad 305. Mainly for office purposes, however the fact that it has a Nvidia 820m as a secondary graphics card is a nice feature, since I like to play games from time to time. Since my games aren't the most demanding either, they work just fine as long as I use the 820m on it. They do lag considerably using the Intel Graphics Card. So, the thing is, I am considering whether to upgrade to Windows 10, and one central question is: Will the switchable graphics work? You know, my parents taught me to "ALWAYS have the latest drivers on your computer!" so earlier today I went ahead and downloaded the latest driver for the 820m from the nvidia website. Unfortunately, my parents hadn't told me that that's not how it works with hybrid graphic pcs. Apparently if you have two graphics card in one pc only the drivers from the manufacturer will work. That explains why my game suddenly started lagging after the driver update (even THOUGH I had it set to use the nvidia card on the nvidia control panel). I went back to the original driver via the onekey recovery partition now, and it works fine just like before. HOWEVER that means I would need a driver directly from Lenovo that makes this switchable thing work under Windows 10. Is there? If so, does it work? Any experiences? I need to decide this rather quickly, what with work and also the free upgrade period ending rather soon. Thanks a lot in advance!Gre... Read more

Hello,

So I downloaded windows 8 onto my HP envy laptop (2011 model) and everything was going dandy until I tried connecting to my external monitor. It does not even acknowledge that my monitor is connected. I have looked online and it seems like the problem lies with my drivers. Apparently my ATI Radeon HD 5000 driver is not compatible with windows 8. That sounds like garbage to me, there must be a way around this right? I hope one of you guys can help me!!! Thank you

I got a new hard drive and installed windows 7 on it. My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 custom quad edition. I installed the AMD driver for it and updated and installed the catalyst controll manager. On the intel gpu its just that gpu running and the ati one is off, but when I switch to the high performance one(ati), both of the gpu's are on and the intel one is supposed to be off. i can see this by looking in the device manager --> display adapters. On my old hard drive just one would be on at a time never both like the high setting is now. This is a problem because when the high performance one is on there actually both on which makes it run like the power saver one which sucks.

I've seen others online with this issue, posted on the HP site with high hopes in a response, and am hoping to get to the bottom of this issue.

Bought my Dv7-6195us around August (2011) and started having these exact same issues around the end of September.

My setup is included in the .txt file attached to this post.

I have done all of the tasks and suggestions that are given on the HP site, updated all of my drivers (that HP provides on there website, that Intel provides on their website, and that Windows Update detects), removed any possibly problematic new software (had my current setup all installed on a desktop machine before (custom built) with absolutely no problems whatsoever), ran the lastest anti-virus-malware-rootkit detection and found no errors or problems, did multiple Memory, HDD, and periphreal hardware tests all passing 100% successful with no errors reported everytime they are run, have ran SFC in command prompt and it comes up clean, no errors, and have tested both "Fixed" and "Dynamic" modes in the new BIOS update for the video setup, which doesn't seem to alleviate the problem.

Alright, that being said, here are the exact symptoms my comp. demonstrates when having this problem. Some sort of video processing is occurring at the time of the BSOD. It could be playing a video in either Media Player or VLC, Skype video-chatting, or the like. I haven't experienced the problem while watching in-browser videos, like on YouTu... Read more

Hi and Welcome -I searched the Microsoft Windows 7 forums and found this answer that fixed one "Error 0x490" problem. - - -Your boot information is bad. afaik, you will have to do a startup repair to fix it.I could not find a MS link for this but I found this >> http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html to boot into the recovey options >> (USE METHOD 2 !!!)and this >> http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html to do the startup repair which actually looks at things like MBR and the BOOT folder. As with anything of this type, I strongly recommend backing up anything and everything - create an image of each and every partition.Hope that helps. How did this happen? I rather suspect that something happened, the system rebooted, and stopped at a screen which had something like system repair as a default, the timer went out, it did its thing, and unfortunately incorrectly. i have lost opsyses that way.I strongly recommend always setting:Control Panel / System / Advanced System Settings / (System Properties) Advanced tab / look at "Startup and Recovery" , click settings button - in system failure: uncheck "automatically restart"This will enable you to see any errors that are causing a reboot.See if the information is any help to you -Regards -

Hello folks!

One of my friends having a problem with her laptop's switchable graphics (Intel & AMD Radeon) driver on Windows 8 OS. She wants to switch to Windows 8 from 7, but had issue with graphics driver. I also tried to help, downloaded the latest graphics driver for HP Pavilion G6 1215-et (64bit) named "SP59147" from the main site of HP, installed correctly but it says "WDDM 1.0.blablaba" on device manager, and shows its model as Radeon HD7000 with a caution sign..

I also searched the problem on the net a lot, but could not find anything, neither from HP support pages. Tried to install old but main driver from Win 7, it worked, but still had problems while switching, the game and videos didnt work well, also laptop heated itself a lot. Between all of these steps and the others, used Driver Fusion to clean/erase package remains, and restarted at each step.

Does any of you has a solution for that HD 6470M on Windows 8? Any idea/suggestions about it? All comments are welcomed!

Thanks

maybe that the hub just needs a reboot.

go to open network and sharing centre / select your connections and check your activity. If the sent bytes value is increasing but the received value is static then it maybe a case that no data is being received to the laptop hence no internet.

Would that be the same issue when it is on the lower slot 0 ?

Run after removing RAM 2x2GB(tried interchanging the slots)Came across an article, where similar issue was tackled by re-applying thermal paste (between heatsink and processor). So, have ordered for the same. While I wait, wanted to check if there are there any other checks which can identify the problem ? Any fixes without HW change ?Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

My Laptop's been fine for 2 years...when I'm on battery, I switch the wifi off via the switch on the laptop. However, all of a sudden, the Wifi won't turn on again! The switch isn't broken (I've moved it back and forth), and I've tried the software switch ( Fn+F5), but that doesn't work either! I dual boot Windows 8+7, and neither OS has wifi on. I've also tried uninstalling drivers/disabling the adapter via Device Manager, but no luck! I also went into the BIOS, disabled the adapter through there, launched Windows 8, then rebooted and reenabed the Wifi, and that didn't work either =(.EDIT: Windows troubleshooting says "Turn on wireless capability: Use the switch on the front or side of the comptuer, or function keys if available, to enable wireless capability on this computer".My warranty ended over a year ago!Paying to send in the laptop for this would suck. Good morning everybody,

I have bought my laptop 1 year ago and everything was going ok, i installed many programs (Adobe illustrator) and games (PES2011) and many others and i faced no problems.
One day, my cousin used the laptop to watch a new movie but he forgot to charge the battery during that time until the laptop shuts down alone due to empty battery.
On the next day, i tried to power on my laptop it starts normally until it reached the Windows 7 logo it automatically shuts down. I tried again for several times with the same result then a blue screen with white writings on it was displayed on the screen (harddisk failure).
I bought a new Toshiba 500GB HDD and burned a new Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD to install a fresh new copy of it but i have faced the following:
1- when I power on the laptop it works normally.
2- I press F12 to choose the device to boot from (Boot from DVD)
3- It starts normally and a windows 7 screen appears with a loading bar. It is filled quickly in the first time then a new screen appears with a loading bar starts to fill but after around 75% of the loading bar is filled the laptop shuts down.
I tried to restart it for several times with the same result.

I make the following points to try to restart the laptop but always with the same result:
1- Remove the new HDD and then insert it
2- Remove the Rams and then insert them
3- Remove the battery and then insert it.

- Are you replacing the original laptop hard drive with the new Toshiba or is the Toshiba an external USB hard drive?
- Are you trying to clean install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to the original laptop hard drive or to the new Toshiba?

This happens randomly, and there is no particular, specific trigger.
Has taken place twice.
The first time around, I went through the boot menu (F12) and selected my hard drive.
The second time, I did the same. But, a resume after hibernation made my screen freeze at a black screen with a blipping, white underscore (_). Ctrl+Alt+Del restarted my computer. And it is now working properly, or so I hope.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening? And how do I fix this?

So I have recently had an issue with the y560 ideapad laptop (I know WAY past use of life but it's still plodding along just fine).  The display driver I think is crashing after the windows load screen on boot.  Make a long story short, through my diagnosis of the laptop I thought it may be the thermals from the video card and CPU.  Ergo, I pulled the thing apart replaced the thermal compound and was still running into the same issue of the laptop not making to the login section on boot and occasionally throwing a black screen up in safe mode. Went in via safe mode (very odd by the way to get there on Windows 10) and nuked the drivers for the old 5000 series mobility AMD card.  I was still experiencing the same issues after a fresh driver reinstall so I just resigned myself to using the laptop with the built in graphics on the MOBO instead of the video card. Well after about an hour of putzing around feeling sorry for myself, Windows blanks the screen out and pops up with the drivers re-installed and the screen looking like normal.  So my question is two fold: Anyone have a solution for the blank screen after the windows boot screen (all research points back to this being a problem years ago but driver updates seem to have solved the issue). Is Windows 10 doing funny things with my drivers in the background unbegonist to me?  (While I have little doubt Windows IS doing things, I'm looking for a way to turn it off seeing as how... HP DV6 6121tx
AMD HD6770M
Windows 7 64bit

I just reinstalled Windows and I want to update my graphics drivers to the latest ones (13.1). I'm runnning Dynamic mode.
So at first I installed the latest HP provided AMD Display drivers from HP's website
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP Pavilion dv6-6121tx Entertainment Notebook PC | HP? Support

Now I thought I'm supposed to install any new versions of HP drivers *over* this since this HP one contained drivers essential for dynamic switching. But if I run the 13.1 installer and view the log, it skips over the display driver part and just updates AMD install manager and some other useless components.

How do I install 13.1 without messing up dynamic switchable graphics?

A:Updating graphics drivers on switchable graphics

Unless HP decides to release an updated driver, you're basically stuck with what you have. As you found out the driver from AMD won't install. That is because it doesn't include/support the switchable graphics.

Now with that said there is this modded set,

that includes both the latest AMD and Intel driver, and is modded to work with most laptops with that combination.

If you have a z570 you'll know that they have a switchable graphic system controlled by a switch at the front of the laptop. However, after a repair by KNOWHOW, this switch is gone - they replaced the base plate obviously with the wrong model parts. Is there any way I can bypass this switch and enable my Nvidia card manually? At the moment it's greyed out in the control panel and I can't use it to play any games. This laptop used to have the switch. The Nvidia card in question is GT520M

I have been using this y410p to play games for almost three years now, and a small set of problems has slowly started to build.  As of now, most of my games will crash within 5-10 minutes of starting, commonly accompanied by the error "Display driver has stopped responding and recovered". Most of the time, the game will just freeze with the audio continuing and I am able to close it. Sometimes however, I get much more severe crashes, where the sound over 5 seconds becomes extremely distorted, and my mouse movement becomes increasingly laggy until the whole thing just freezes, with a monotone buzzing sound coming from the speakers.  I have noticed that the display driver crashes generally occur when my disk randomly spiked to 100%. Even a single second of it can cause my whole computer to crash. As of now, I can't play games that my computer has easily been able to run before. I've tried using IdeaFan to keep temperatures down, but I don't think it's temperatures causing it, seeing as I've seen it happen multiple times when the temperature is only around 50. If any of you have an idea of what could be causing this, please respond.  Also of note, I am running Windows 10, which I have heard can be problematic for the y410p. Could that be causing the issue?

I`m having some problems with my new laptop, so first things first its an HP Pavillion dv6 running windows 7 64 bit on an intel core i5 450M, 6gb of ddr3 ram, ATI mobility radeon 5650.
For the first few weeks its been great but now it cannot run games as fast as it used to. A couples days ago i go and try and play crysis and my laptop which used to have no problems on high settings running 20-30 fps couldnt even get 1/10 of that. I've tried newer and older drivers doing system restore etc. all of it to no avail. Out of curiosity i tried running crysis with the power saving gpu ( the intel hd graphics) and it has exactly the same performance as when the running crysis on what the computer says is the high performance (ATI) gpu. So my theory is that the computer isnt actually switching when it says it does. Other than that there arent any other noticable weird problems graphically and as everything i've seen in the control panel says everything is working fine. Maybe there is something i'm missing, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Switchable Graphics

Hi: Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook... http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/5355006/model/5435448/document... It only has the onboard Intel HD 4000 graphics. HP puts all the available driver combinations on the entire model series support pages. That means the switchable graphics drivers would be for the HP 15-e### models that come with the AMD/Intel switchable graphics.

UPDATED! - 15 Feb 2013

Firstly, how do I get it working?

NEW: First, read through the list of current options (Feb 2013). More details and history below...
Long story short, download the latest OEM Windows 8 drivers (e.g. for HP, by finding your model on 24/7 Online support for HP's Home and Home Office Products | HP? Support, or using the NotebookReview: HP Drivers and Software Forum).

For other OEM Support see the Intel OEM Support websites and AMD Global OEMs pages.
Also, be sure to CHECK if you NEED TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS - see HP's Consumer Notebooks and Windows 8 - Overview of BIOS updates and this updated post for HP Windows 8 Support pages, options and updates on new HP drivers!

Alternatively, you could use the latest Leshcat (3rd party, community-supported) driver (see the end of this post for instructions).

If you THEN want the latest AMD versions, proceed to upgrade them after installing one of the above, using the AMD Catalyst 12.10 and/or AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta releases. To get the best of both worlds, mix and match like this but ONLY if you know what you are doing (see here for more info).

If you are having (Code 43) errors with your AMD Radeon, i.e. ?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)?, then the fix is to load AMD-signed Intel driver in Device Manager. For more details see this post, and this post on how to fix.

If you are upgrading from other drivers, see this post, option 3. Same goes for uninstalling ... Read more

A:Win 8 AMD Switchable Graphics FAQ

Eagerly waiting for Windows 8 to support switchable graphics. I am using Leschcat's driver for my 6770M on Windows 7 -- awesome performance.

One problem I have with Windows 8 is that it only runs on the AMD gpu, and not the Intel one. Due to this, it drains my battery really quick. Is there a way to make it use Intel only until switchable graphics are supported?

Also, the Intel 3000 drivers posted here crash after 2 weeks of installation. This has happened multiple times. The ones by Microsoft have the auto-bridghtness adjustment on and there is no control panel for the driver to turn it off.

I recently purchased a Samsung laptop with switchable graphics. I've selected the high performance card for GTA4, however the benchmark test for GTA4 detects the integrated card being used. Is there any way to check which card is currently active so I can determine whether GTA4 is detecting the wrong card or the Laptop is using the integrated card?

Thanks in advance.

A:Switchable Graphics

Switchable graphics determines which card to use based on load/demand. It should switch to the non-integrated graphics card when you launch the game. Do you really need to run the benchmark? You can compare the performance to other people using a similar graphics card to see if its up to par.

You can also do a comparison by turning off the switchable graphics in the BIOS, it can be re-enabled after doing the testing.

I currently have an Inspiron 15r 5521. It has switchable graphics between an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 and an AMD Radeon HD 8730M card. The issue is twofold.
Firstly, my laptop has been suffering massive fps drops in any kind of computer game at all. The second there is any strain on the graphics it plunges to sub 20 fps.
Secondly, in response to the first problem I've done a lot to try solve the fps drops, including uninstalling and reinstalling all kinds of drivers. I am now convinced I have the right drivers but the problem is that I have no way of checking if the drivers are working properly. It used to be the case where I could go on Catalyst Control Center but that's just upped and vanished and when I've tried installing Radeon Settings it simply never detects the AMD driver I have.Is there a way to get Radeon settings to work? Or is there somewhere else I should be looking for a way to set my graphics up properly?

Hello,I'd like to use WebGL on my Latitude 5570. Unfortunately it seems, that all browsers all locked to powersaving mode in amd switchable graphics. I've found a note from HP claiming, that applications using OpenGL can't be run with AMD Switchable graphics in some of their models. They offer switching to dedicated graphics in bios as a workaround. But there is not such an option in Dell's BIOS. Renaming exe file and adding it to AMD SG with performance setting doesn't work. Browser always says that webgl is not supported. Strange is that it works on another old notebook with Intel graphics only.

Greetings,

I have been following the thread and so forth on the switchable graphics and anything to do with windows 8 for the longest time. I got one of those laptops where HP claims it doesnt support windows 8 and so forth. HP Envy 14 1211nr with beats audio. AMD 5650 1gb & Intel HD Video (FG) (First Generation). Before the previews and all that I actually got it to work under Leshcat and I have tried all the other methods but I found this a buggy approach for me and tried many times just wasnt satisified. So i put my project on hold and all hope to me was lost with Win 8 on this laptop. At times I was deciding to sell this laptop on CL. Hence it is a great gaming laptop under Windows 7.

Then Windows 8.1 Preview came out.... I said ok lets go back and try this again.... No luck.... Same results... And then I was all doom and gloom once again.

RTM became avail on MSDN. So I downloaded it and Installed it on my desktop impressed...

And So just yesterday I installed it in the HP laptop. Clean install of course.

Well no conflicts and this is working. Using the WDM Drivers provided by microsoft. I think which is version 13.1

So is it using the AMD driver with no cautions. Does it show the Intel driver with no cautions and so forth. Yes and Yes and Yes.

My only gripe is they dont in include the Catalyst Control Panel in the WDM version no more... So I gotta find which one would be compatible with this. I am open for suggestions..

So after I got this installed I deci... Read more

Ok So here is my results....

Does brightness control work?
No. But it does work under intel when switched over to it. Which is normal.

Is there any error codes on the drivers?
No.

Does the switchable graphics feature work?
Yes and No. If you do the automatic switching it will switch for you but trying to get it back into the other mode, you would have to force a hard reboot to get it back. However a temp work around is to switch to the intel gpu, manually which it will and to switch back plug in the charger and reboot.

So I wouldn't consider this fully work yet. However we are getting close.... No errors in the wdm drivers and the 13.10 drivers at all! This is good news previously would get error codes on the drivers in 8 and 8.1 preview.

Games do work just fine. As I said earlier big performance difference compared to 7. I think we might see a fix for the hybrid graphics in the future tho.

I did manage to install the Catalyst Control Panel from the 13.10 beta and all the nice video features and other features worked. App profiles, LCD Over Drive, Color Profiles, Gfx adjustments such as a AMD Optimization, and everything.

Even tho its not fully fixed I am quite happy that there is no caution, error code 48s on the intel or amd driver and games and everything else works jut fine.

So....I have an AMD 7670M and Intel HD 4000 on my laptop, now I want to run payday so I would normally open AMD's Configure Switchable Graphics (CSG as abbrev from here on) and select PAYDAY 2 for "High Performance" and hit apply and be on my way...

But now, everytime I open CSG, all it does it open Catalyst Control Center and only displays the "Advanced Display Settings" with 2 options asking to detect manually or automatically everytime I open CCC, this has absolutely nothing to do with switching to a different graphics card. It was fine yesterday but I turned off PC last night and woke up today with this issue, I tried a system restore which didn't do anything...so I'm kind of stuck...

I no longer have the ability to apply my dedicated card to my games....
Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I even installed an older version of CCC dated in Aug 2012 (which was one I've rolled back to before) and I still have no option to switch cards.

A:Configure Switchable Graphics

Were you using a graphics driver from your PC manufacturer before? The base catalyst may not include this feature.
On most dual systems I've read about there was no way to choose, the system would just do it as needed.

Do you have any other higher end games installed? do you notice any performance loss now?

You can always poke around the PC manufacturer site and see if they have a graphics driver for ya.

Hi bar_rodoy,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You will need to refresh both of the graphics driver in order to make the switching working again,

First Uninstall the AMD driver and Software
Open Device Manager and look under Display Adapters
You should find your AMD/ATI Graphics there,
Right click on it and choose Uninstall, you will be prompted if you want to uninstall Driver software for this                            device,   (Make sure to place a check under it then hit OK). Restart the system if prompted.
Now check under Control Panel / Uninstall a Program and Uninstall any AMD ATI Graphics related entry there.

You will need to do the same procedure with the Intel Graphics.

Now with all Graphics adapter using generic drivers

Download and install Intel Driver first followed by the AMD / ATI

A:Switchable Graphics Not working

I had success as follows - you may want to give this a try:

Make sure you have the latest drivers for both graphics cards installed - Windows Update should take care of that.Check for the ccc2_install.exe object on your system - I found it at location c:\Programs Files\AMD\CCC2\Install\ccc2_install.exe (dated 13/12/2013 so looked original)Run that ccc2_install.exe and it will install and place an icon on the task bar (or on the desktop) which will allow the Switchable Graphics feature to be configured for running. Typically you can set programs or functions to run on low power graphics (those on-board) or the high power discrete graphics card ie. AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series card.

You can configure these settings as preferred or leave the default settings as they are and I believe it manages the switching process itself.

Please report back on the results so others can benefit - good luck.

Ok, so I have an HP ENVY dv6z-7200 Notebook PC that came with Windows 8 already installed. I've done A LOT of digging and came to the solution that I need to switch things around in the bios. I need to switch from Dynamic mode to Fixed mode, but there is no option in the new W8 EUFI thing, or whatever it's called... to switch dyamic or fixed. This is VERY frustrating because i'm trying to play games like Minecraft, and I'm getting horrible FPS when I should be getting good FPS. Here are my specs...

HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC
A8-4500m APU with Radeon HD Graphics (4 CPUs) ~1.9GHz
Windows 8 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200)
AMD Radeon HD 7640G + 7670m Dual Graphics
Chip type says AMD Radeon HD 7640G.... which is the weaker card... I want the 7670m to work over that so I get better performace.
BIOS version: F.13

I'm not sure if i can downgrade my BIOS from Windows 8, since it's a whole different setup. Can anyone help? I'll give more info if requested.

EDIT: I've seen tons of solutions for Intel + AMD graphics, but I have AMD + AMD.

A:Switchable Graphics Not Working...? [AMD + AMD] HELP!

Don't bother trying to change things with your uefi or bios you won't be able to. You have the new muxless design and there isn't a fixed mode for that. I suggest getting the latest amd drivers from AMD not from HP. Once you have them installed just use the Catalyst control center to set which graphics card you want to use for whichever program. For more information on switchable graphics Anandtech has some pretty good articles here:
AnandTech - AMD
AnandTech - AMD
AnandTech - AMD

How do I know all this? I also have a 7670m switchable only w/ intel integrated graphics on a Acer lappy. It was a super pain for me because of the intel version needing to be signed by amd; but the amd version of intel graphics were lower than the base version intel graphics in Win 8 which turned out to be a nightmare. Long story short, I am now running Amd drivers version 12.11.

Anyway good luck.

HD8670 , Installed intel drivers , then the amd ones. Set everything to highest possible. Even set minimum processor state to %100 at advanced settings of power management. I tried both plugged and unplugged. Tried 10 different games. Some of them uses steam , some of them dont. But i cant solve the problem. I tried a 2006 game disabling aa , shadows , reflections , texture filter. But still 25-30 fps. I took a look at the log files of games , and saw what? games are using intel graphics. My pc is saying me that everyting is fine about my graphics card. But its not. On youtube , i saw how my games work with onboard gpu and realised that , that videos was exactly like my PC's performance. I tried everything! Bios was no use , it has no option about graphics.

My computer is an HP Pavilion dv6-6047cl Entertainment Notebook PC with Intel i7-2630QM 2.0 GHz processor, with 8 GB RAM.
I have had several different graphics problems and have upgraded the drivers.
It has HP Switchable Graphics with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver and AMD Radeon HD6700M, with the Catalyst Control Center (CCC).

The computer recently crashed and would only open in non-Aero mode (screen looked like safe mode).
It also made IE11 settings changes to the computer, and added a search add-on called "OneSourse, which I have deleted.
These problems were not corrected by system restore.
I scanned the Computer with Microsoft Safety Scanner, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, and it checked out clean.

Due to continuing graphics problems, I deleted AMD Radeon HD6700M and Catalyst Control Center, and am just using the Intel HD Graphics 3000 display driver.
It seems to work fine in this configuration, as there is no more CPU robbing Catalyst Control Center or freezing screens on start up, among the other problems I noted.
I normally use the computer in plugged in mode.

Is there any down side to eliminating the AMD Driver and CCC and using only the Intel HD Graphics 3000 display driver?

I do not use this computer to play games, and while it could possibly use it for Blu-ray playback, it is primarily used for Internet surfing, Youtube, and running Microsoft Office programs.

Hi everybody, got a quick question.
I have two graphics cards on my Acer Aspire laptop, an ati 5650m and a Intel HD graphics card for low power use that I can switch too. I was wondering, if I'm just internet browsing or playing a low end game like counter strike, should I switch to my Intel HD so I can give my ATI a bit of a "rest"? Or does it damage your computer when you switch graphics cards frequently?

A:Switchable Graphics Card

I wouldn't think it would 'damage' your computer to switch from integrated to discrete graphics frequently. However, there's really no need to switch when you're browsing. I have both a GTX 560 and Intel HD Graphics and my computers running fine solely on the GTX 560. As long as you keep your computer switched off when you're sleeping, gone out etc. your GPU should have enough 'rest'.

A message "Switching the graphics processor cannot occur until your current applications are closed" pops up. So I believe there is some notification.

Could someone tell me how to prevent switching between graphics cards while the application is running.

Thank you

hi

im not an expert on hardware, but why would you want to switch graphic cards while your computer is switched on? and what do you mean by switching are you going to use 2 graphic cards?

Also I have had a lot of problems with Ati Radeon on my PC. But the HD sounds promising

Thanks

I am not able to switch to my dedicated GPU(even at high performance power setting) since none of my games recognise it. I have installed both the intgrated and dedicated drivers. I am also well aware that the same issue concerning the same device(elitebook 840g1 ) had been posted and a solution was given in the form of a link. Unfortunately am not able to access the link itself since when I click on it, I'm redirected to http://support.hp.com/us-en. With that, can someone please help me figure out how I can have my graphics switched automatically or at least tell me of a way I can access the contents of this link http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03048374. My BIOS is of the latest version

Heya. New here obviously but I'm in a bit of a rut. Sorry for gramma etc using my mobile for this at the moment. Recently purchased myself a new laptop for multipurpose reasons. Everything from gaming (obviously not hardcore just something to tie me over until I build my new desktop) to Microsoft office use for work. I'm having issues with the switchable graphics that when I exit my game (kingdoms of amalur : the reckoning - for example) within minutes my laptop will freeze, which I am guessing happens when it switches back to the intel chipset. Wondering what I can do to stop this from happening even if that means forcing it to use the nvidia gfx card constantly. Below is my laptop specs if it helps.

I need help and suggestions on what to do with this black screen crisis. Mine is a little different that others. so sorry if this is a repeated thread. ive looked everywhere, and no one has the issue when they have dual boot.

laptop description:
I have dual boot on my laptop with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and windows 7 home premium 64 bit. the home premium came pre installed on the laptop and the ultimate version i installed later dual boot (i needed some capabilities that home premium doesn't have).

Problem: I cannot see anything on my screen after windows logo while booting up my laptop bcz of the black screen after the windows logo. When i boot into WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. i hear windows logon screen notification noise but see nothing! oddly enough even my built in webcam logs me in with VeriFace software with my face, passwordless! ALSO my laptop boots fine with windows 7 ultimate and i can see everything, and it works great! i need the other version to WORK cause my life is in that other version of windows. i cannot factory restore!!!

What i have tried: the keyboard is also unresponsive, bcz i held down a bunch of keys to see if it makes the beep noise. I closed the laptop lid to see if it goes into hibernation and waited 3 mins to see if it still does, so that when i open it i can see everything (it has worked before). nothing. i rebooted a bunch of times even with a second screen attached, tried to guess switch into projector mode with my function key and switch s... Sounds like a corrupted file system, so try running chkdsk.

How to run System File Checker (SFC) or chkdsk from the Recovery ConsoleBoot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory
Run SFC or chkdskIf you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above).

Let either run to completion undisturbed.

So i did a complete installation of the newest catalyst beta 2 (13.6) and when i open the configure switchable graphics from right click menu all i get is an amd home page
This is exactly what i can see.

It did work on the past versions although on some version it did not (even the final ones)

I already tried uninstalling completely and installing them again, i also tried to install my default drivers from acer and that on top of it. Yet it still did that. Please don't tell me to uninstall the drivers and do a clean install because i did it like 15 times now. It's not worth my time.

Also, i have this weird glitch on my windows 7 logon ui that makes the spinning circle static (i mean it won't move at all after it reaches the "Shutting down" text or when it's on "Welcome". I tried sfc /scannow disk check and all that yet it didn't help.

Thank you for your time

Hi there,

I got a new laptop the other day with switchable graphics:
AMD Radeon HD 6630M (1GB dedicated) and Intel HD 3000 (internal). So far, it's been really picky in what it's letting me play. Any help you guys could give would be so welcome.

Issue One

The first problem is with an old game (Medal of Honor: Allied Assault) but I'm keen to get it running, A) because the problem seems to stem from OpenGL and I play a lot of OpenGL games, and B) because the game didn't play on my old machine either!

The problem is that when I start up the game, the OpenGL console appears as normal but then crashes to black screen and I have to task manager my way out of it. The game is unplayable. Whilst task manager is open, a little bit of the console is visible (but un-screencapable) and displays messages like: "GL_EXT_texture_env_combine not found".

From some reading I've done online, it seems that AMD have stated the 6630M won't work with OpenGL but surely, I should still be able to play the game on the internal card, right? The one webpage I found that talks about the issue in a way I can understand was this but when I implemented their (Dell) instructions, it seemed to affect the display of Windows badly and I could no longer access the Catalyst Control Center or Switchable Graphics clients to manage my dedicated card.

Please help.

Issue Two

This may be related to issue one or it may not be. I also bought Fallout 3. When I first ran it (an... Read more

I just recommended a church buy a new Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop to run their worship software ProPresenter5 - which has minimum requirements of a 1GB discrete graphics card. The specs of the laptop exceed the requirements, however after setting up the laptop, the PP5 software won't run off the graphics card, it runs off the Intel HD integrated graphics. I did not know when I bought this laptop that it had switchable graphics!

Dell Inspiron 5559
Win10 Home
Intel Core i7-6500U CPU
16.0GB RAM
4GB AMD Radeon R5 M335 (installed latest driver 16.200.1035.1001 dated 7/8/16)
Intel HD Graphics 520 (driver 20.19.15.4454 dated 5/4/16) - the Intel site won't let me install its latest drivers because it says I have custom settings from Dell and could cause problems.

Here's my issue. I set PP5 to run off "Maximum Performance" in the Radeon Settings Configuration so it would run off the graphics card and not the integrated graphics. FYI - the laptop has to hook up to an external display system via the HDMI port to project the songs / worship elements. When I run PP5 off the graphics card, videos won't play through it. Images are fine but video backgrounds are not. This is an essential part of the software.
When I switch the software to default to "Power Saver" mode, it runs off the Intel Graphics and the videos work. Though I really don't think I'll get the best performance since the software requirements are for a dedicated graphics card.

A:Pinpoint Switchable Graphics Problem

Well it sounds like you have done all you can to resolve this, but the conflict between the device and the software is one of those, they never saw this happening, ones. Or they did and didn't bother with it, because it didn't happen often.

If there are two graphics cards on the device, have you tried disabling the one you don't want it to use? Not just in the program, but completely? Or is it a case of the one needs the other to work? Which is a serious design flaw in some laptops.

To be honest, were it me, I would return the device, siting the problems, and get one that will give you what you need, without the same flaws. If it was just purchased, the place it was gotten from should allow for an exchange to another device.

First of all, thanks for reading this post. I recently bought a HP DV7-4030ed, i'm a graphic/game designer and i work a lot with different kinds of game engines, and this means that i want to have my drivers updated. I always plug in my pc, so i don't use my Intel gpu a lot. Sadly, Catalyst isn't compatible with intel switchable graphics. And i still got my warranty, so i don't want to flash my BIOS. If you know how to solve this, please reply.

Hello,

I just installed a new SSD with a fresh Windows 8 install in my friends laptop. It is an HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl that originally came with Windows 7. It also has an Intel HD graphics chip, and an AMD Radeon HD 5000 series chip, in a switchable graphics setup. Well lo and behold, it turns out I should have just stuck with 7 instead of 8, because there seems to be massive issues using the switchable graphics in 8!

To sum things up, HP doesn't have any 8 drivers so I tried the 7 drivers in compatibility mode. They installed fine and it seemed to work. Except two things - It defaulted to the Radeon at all times and not the Intel chip, and the biggest issue is when the computer is put into sleep in any fashion or somehow a switch is made between the two chips, the screen becomes blank (no display at all) and will not show up unless the system is rebooted. It seems "switching" kills it.

Now I did some research and found this is a common problem, so I followed some guides. The biggest one suggested uninstalling all driver present (which I think I did) and installing the Leshcat driver 12.9. This also did not solve the problem. I think I did it properly, the only part I might have messed up on is the uninstalling of the drivers, as I had no way of knowing if they really were gone. I even tried the newest Leshcat driver and that didn't work either.

So I'm at a complete loss as to what to do. The system even did a system restore and brought it back to squa... Read more

Hello, I've been having issues regarding switchable graphics. It wont use Radeon 6700m on the game named Blade and Soul. No matter what i do, which option i choose, it will still be using Intel hd 4000.

I know this because A) it wont even find/show the game on Switchable Graphics Application Monitor. B) My Radeon wont have any activity shown on AMD System Monitor.

I cant set Switchable Graphics to be static on BIOS because there is no option there. I dont think i had any problem with the card as it could even run Mortal Kombat X  and provide same fps as this game which is like 6 years old and with much lower system req.

OS: Windows 10 x64
GPU: Intel Graphics 4000, AMD Radeon HD 6700M with latest drivers downloaded from HP website.

A:Switchable Graphics not working properly.

Tanri Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about your display problem and wanted to help. You say you're running Win10 but according to the HP Support page for your PC, it did not come with Win10 preinstalled.  So, in that case, you must have done the Win10 Upgrade, right? The Win10 Upgrade tool does a poor job of detecting PCs with multiple graphics chipsets (like yours) and, as a result, is unable to install the proper drivers for those chipsets to work.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops. However, you could consider using HP Win8.1 drivers -- although there's no guarantee that those drivers will work.  Here's the link to the HP Product drivers and software page for Win8.1 for your PC:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5262606/model/5283... If that page does not show Win8.1 when you open it, then click CHANGE and select Windows 8.1 using the pulldowns. Also, since you're going to be installing AMD drivers, then run their clean utility BEFORE you attempt to reinstall the HP drivers:  AMD Clean Uninstall UtilityGood LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.===================================... flcph2015 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the situation is that you should not have done the Win10 Upgrade.  Their Upgrade tool does a really poor job of detecting switchable graphics prior to the updrade, and as a result, folks like you end up with machines that are no longer fully functional.  Same thing happened to me. With switchable graphics, the only working drivers come from the OEMs that make the machines, because the hardware is customized, so to have to be the drivers.  MS does not supply these drivers, nor do the video card makers. So, without HP Win10 drivers for your PC, you're stuck with only two outcomes:1) Keep Win10 and struggle with the graphics problem2) Return your PC to the original OS. I chose the second because I prefer a PC with an older OS where everything worked, to a PC with a new OS, where some things do not work.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, but no luck.

Hello, I have a laptop HP4530s with intel i5 processor blue sticker on palmrest and one red sticker with word "Radeon graphics".The model of CPU is i5- 2410 with 2.3 GHz. Now I know that ATI is producer of radeon graphics so naturally I thought that my laptop has switchable graphics and can choose between ATI video card and internal Intel HD. In device manager video card is recognized as mobile Intel HD graphics. I have tried to install ATI catalist drivers bu just as many people before me I experienced Blue screens until I didn't roll back the drivers from ATI. Motherboard chipset is Intel Sandybridge, and for the graphics I can find with CPU-z: Mobile Intel (R) HD graphics, clock 648 Mhz with 1155 Mbytes. My laptop currently uses internal graphics, but how to know if it has separated video card or not?IN my BIOS I have option "Switchable graphics" but I also have a question mark "?" next to it. So I'm not sure whether this laptop has another Video card or not. How can I really check this? Thank you!

A:AMD Radeon HD/Intel switchable graphics

Marko91 HP laptops, especially the older Win7 machines, often came with two different graphics chips -- and Intel and then, either an AMD or Nvidia.  This was known as Switchable Graphics or Hybrid Graphics.  You ran using the Intel chip most of the time, but when you needed extra graphics power, like in Gaming, the PC automatically switched over to using the AMD or Nvidia graphics chip.Problem is, this requires special graphics drivers to work, and while those came preinstalled on the Win7 laptops, those drivers simply do not exist for Win10.  Those drivers are not available from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia.  A way to tell if your PC has two different graphics chips is to look in Device Manager under Display Adapters.  If there are two different adapters listed, one Intel and one AMD/Nividia, then you have this problem -- and if you force an upgrade to Win10, you will have serious graphics problems and your machine will not work. Please follow these directions to find the detailed product number for your laptop:  Finding Your HP Product Model Number | HP® Customer Support With that information, I can see if there are HP Win10 vide drivers for your laptop. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hello,

See my system specs for my laptop make and model.

Disclaimer: I did get a new mobo over Christmas break, but it was matching identical to the original I'm not sure why the AMD GPU is not wanting to recognize or install.

My laptop has the bridged processor with two GPUs; the Intel HD3000 and the AMD Raedon 6770M. The Intel HD3000 works fine and the drive for it is installed, but it sucks my battery down because, as some of you know, that is the "high performance graphics" processor. The AMD Raedon 6770M is not even recognizing in Device Manager. It is as if it does not exist. I installed the new motherboard myself and can confirm that the AMD GPU is physically there. However, it simply is not working. I've tried two variations of the AMD High Definition Graphics Driver from the HP Website (sp55092.exe and sp54462.exe). Neither work. It'll install and say it went through with no errors, but the whole process only installs 60MB of data, which means that the device is physically not being recognized. I have a feeling I'm doomed. Help?

Hi there! I've never posted on a forum before, but I FINALLY found a great fix to a problem that's been bugging me so here goes....

The Problem:
I've got an Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG with Catalyst switchable graphics (Radeon 6550M).
My problem was that the graphics cards always switched over when I plugged in or unplugged the power cord -which was SUPER annoying as it sometimes crashed my computer when I was playing a game (for instance when a housemate accidentally unplugged my laptop).

A few things to note:
1. For some weird reason there is no option in my catalyst control centre for switchable graphics to "Automatically select power saving GPU when on battery". This option does not exist for me, despite having latest drivers.

2. I didn't want a permanent BIOS "fix" that locked my computer into only using the Radeon card over the intel one. (I like the switchable graphics feature, I just want to choose WHEN it switches.)

3. I didn't want to uninstall Catalyst altogether.

THE FIX:
1. Press the windows key+r (or simply hit start and type in the search box)
2. type "services.msc"
3. Find "AMD External Events Utility" in the list of services.
4. Right click it, and select "stop". As far as I'm aware this effectively stops your computer talking with Catalyst control center (and thus switching over cards automatically). Your computer is then "locked" into whatever graphics card you were usi... Read more

Evgeniy64 That's probably NOT going to work because the ONLY drivers that will work on PCs with Switchable Graphics are those provided by the OEM -- in this case, HP.  If HP does not have Win10 drivers for your model PC, the Upgrade will be a disaster. If you can, please follow the directions in this link to find the detailed product number of your PC: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001If that is not possible, then look for a sticker on the PC that includes the product number and post that here.  If the battery is removable, the sticker is likely to be in the battery compartment. With this information, I can check to see if there are HP Win10 drivers for your PC. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hi Alun18,
Inspiron 15R which with AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card supports dynamic switchable graphic function.
Under the dynamic mode, the user does not directly control which graphics device is active. There under graphics device is determined by application profile settings and the default rule.• Displays are always exposed to the OS through integrated graphics. This is the reason it will always show as Intel Graphics card is in use. It is designed that way.  All graphic intensive processes are done by the AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card and passed on to the application through the Intel HD Graphics.• Aero desktop always runs on integrated graphics.• 3D, OpenGL, and video-playback applications run on the fGPU/iGPU or dGPU depending on the application profile.• If an application does not have a profile, the application runs on the default rendering GPU.• The end-user can edit application profiles.

Dear guys, I googled for around 6-8 hours now for options how to solve the problem.Obviously and only naturally, I already downloaded newest drivers, AMD CCC, et cetera. It is possible to set some games in the CCC to use High Performance. Actually, they did not before. So that's good. And the increase is awesome. So that's fine.BUT: Others do not work at all. I added every **bleep**ing .exe I could find concerning a game (Blade&Soul) to use High Performance and still, when I run application verificiations, the CCC does not even find that the game is running. And it's running with the bad GPU OBVIOUSLY.So, the last bastion of resort I found was going to the BIOS and change the switchable graphics options. When I ran the BIOS, there was no switchable graphics option. So I tried to download the latest **bleep**ing BIOS upgrade exactly from the HP homepage, exactly for my device, exactly the newest version, restarted, rebootet and tried again to access and change the option in the BIOS: nothing there. So now is my question: are you **bleep**ing kidding us, HP?? I have 2 gpu's, but only one is used at most times, and I cannot do any-**bleep**ing-thing against it? Are you serious? What is this? Why? Why does it not work? What is so hard with having an option to enable a primary GPU. To disable the sucking-one when playing games? Just why? And please don't ask me to upload screenshots, system tests and **bleep**. I am not a dumb computer-nerd-noob. I am a pers... Read more

A:Hp pavilion 15-e033tx switchable graphics problem

Welcome tho the forums.

Sometimes this issue comes up because the game is not detected by the graphics (not added on a profile list). Try to install the AMD application profiles, it will add some support even without Catalyst setup:
AMD Catalyst

Make sure the graphic drivers are up to date and the profiles installed. In case it all fails, try running with the selected card manually:
Right click on the game's exe/shortcut and choose: "Run with graphics processor" then select the radeon.

Nevermind, turns out my dGPU was somehow disabled in Device Manager. Though if this occurs again and it's not disabled in device manager I'll refer back to this thread for helpProblem came back (previously I thought it was stuck on the iGPU, but just a problem with Device Manager)

My laptop is set up with switchable graphics, between the iGPU (Intel HD 3000) and the dGPU (AMD Radeon HD 6770M)

In my BIOS, I have set the mode to Fixed (In dynamic or switchable (I don't remember exactly what it's called), the graphics cards change seamlessly, in fixed mode, the display shuts down while the cards switch)

In Catalyst Control Center I have the graphics set to change based on whether my laptop is plugged in (on battery, iGPU is selected, on AC power, dGPU is selected)

Usually, everything works as it should. If I start up my laptop plugged in, the dGPU is selected. If I start it up on just the battery, the iGPU is selected, but if I plug in the AC adapter, it prompts to switch to the dGPU, or I can use CCC to select whichever GPU I want at anytime.

Lately though, it seems to be stuck on the dGPU. When I boot up on battery power it defaults to the dGPU, and I'm unable to switch over to the iGPU through CCC. This has happened in the past, but has been "resolved" with a driver update/re-install for the dGPU. Or of course an OS re-install.

I haven't installed any new software recently, but with my dual-boot between Windows and Ubuntu the Windows MBR inexplicably got scr... Read more

Hi guys i need help.

I have an Acer Aspire E1-572G (Windows 8.1 64-bit OS) with Intel HD Graphics 4400 and AMD Radeon HD 8670M. When i run games however, my laptop uses Intel card instead of my AMD card.

Things i've tried:
Setting application to High Performance in Switchable GraphicsReinstalling AMD/Intel Drivers from both AMD/Intel sites and Acer sites (Used a proper uninstaller to remove all files)Disabling my Intel Graphic Card results in my laptop using Microsoft Basic Rendering DriverUninstalling my Intel Graphic Card also results in using Microsoft Basic Rendering DriverUsing CPU-Z shows AMD Radeon HD 8670M but most information are missing (unknown or 0) unlike Intel Graphics which displays everything. Upon clicking sensor, all my temperatures are set to 0 (which means it's not in use)Using dxdiag shows my Intel Graphics as default driver, not AMD.

I've tried everything i could possibly do so i'm seeking help from experts here. I've seen articles which stated that Windows 8.1 are buggy with Switchable Graphics and may cause problems like these. Is that true?

A:Switchable graphics doesn't use my AMD Radeon HD 8670M

For dual mismatched GPU's like Intel/AMD I recommend using the laptop manufacturers drivers, over doing two separate driver installs. The laptop manufacturers driver is custom tailored for your dual switchable graphics. Which driver are you using now? I haven't had any issues in Windows 8.1 as far as my switchable graphics goes. Mine are AMD/AMD though so I can use a driver right from AMD's web site. I get all kinds of ccc has stopped working messages in Windows 10 though.

Sauravrstha Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your laptop.  HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. HP does not have any schedule indicating when, or IF, they will be producing drivers for the older machines. This means that your PC is most likely NEVER going to be fully functional under Win10 because the drivers is needs for full functionality simply do not exist!  To restore full functionality, you would need to do a factory reset using HP Recovery Media to its original pre-installed OS. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution" -- to help others find the solution.========================================================================
