Hello. I have Radeon HD 3850 AGP and Win7, and I tried to do almost everything ...
I installed 9.12 drivers, 9.12 drivers with adding CL_91526 from the topic above), 9.11 drivers, 9.11 drivers with Hotfix (ATI), 9.11 drivers with adding CL_91526, manual driver install by right click . Absolutely no changes and everytime the same ... During and after installing (before reboot) no changes in Device Manager, having "ATI Radeon 3850 " (or "ATI Radeon 3800 series" or something like that...) with yellow triangle and Microsoft Co. driver. And after reboot no changes with it, an error message with something like "Driver didn't install correctly, please install proper driver" ( though in ATI install log you can see that everything was installed succesfully). So after reboot I still see my VGA like "ATI Radeon 3800 series" with Microsoft driver and of course no changes in monitor resolution and all. If I try to delete microsoft driver (and device), and then install radeon drivers , during installation I absolutely just don't have any VGA in Device manager. And after reboot Win7 "finds" VGA and install from internet microsoft driver, so I can see "ATI Radeon HD 3850 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.1)" in Device Manager.
I think that radeon drivers don't install (or don't install correctly), and Win7 ignores (or doesn't see) them.
Please help... Maybe I do something wrong ?...

Welcome to seven forums AngieM: Unfortunately you have a pretty old system a socket 478 board I would suggest first off to use 32 git seven and try the method in this thread to try and get your driver to install. Not every systems hardware is up to running windows seven Install AGP Drivers for HD 3850, 3650, 2400 PRO This is the only method I know of that will install the agp driver, Are you sure you are following the directions EXACTLY the way they are written and installing form device manager? If so then it is possible your system may just be to outdated to run win 7 Sorry to tell you but?. Fabe I wanted to add you might want to uninstall the driver then use driver sweeper to make sure all remnants of the previous driver are removerd before trying again http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Everyone knows the site drivers don't work for the ATI Radeon HD 3850 Agp card. Nor does the 'hot fix'....even the newest one that came out June 9th. My drivers got corrupted on my computer and I do not have access to my original install disc. Does anyone know a link to a working driver for this?? OR even upload to me the install files from an original disk?
I am renovating a home and forced to live in a small room with friends. All my drivers and computer gear is in a LARGE storage unit along with about 4 bedrooms of stuff, (me the wife and 3 kids.) Simply, by the time I got internet access, my computer takes a dump and my drivers got corrupted. I can't get to the box that has the original disk that came with this damn card. Every version I tried don't work and I even tried some 'hacked' drivers that don't see the 'supported card'.
So....on my time off at night when I am not cutting sheet rock and fixing this new home to work in, I wanna play Oblivion...Turok.....Cyrostasis....etc and at the moment they won't because I don't have the correct drivers.
ANY help please? Thank you friends!
Hi all, I have recently installed windows 8 64bits on my pc. I have an ATI RADEON HD 3850 AGP , a motherboard ASROCK AM2NF3-VSTA and an AMD Athlon X2 4400+. I can not make my VGA work... When I try to install the driver manually it gets me this error, and in the device manager the VGA it's shown with a exclamation:
I can't change the resolution it is set in 1024x768... I have already tried some of them, but all shows me that error. Another thing that I have seen is that when I install CCC it only is installed in my pc ATI Engine control center, not the catalyst control center and the VGA it's shown with a exclamation too. What drivers should I install? And how must I install them?
Can sombebody help me please to get it work?

OK, I had a look through quite a few of the HP docs, but it doesnt seem to give specifications of the power supply. Please check the total wattage (W, eg. 450W) and also how many amps on the 12v, 5v and 3.3v rails.; It will most likely show the rail amps as a table so...

This is just a random example, so please provide us with this information. Also please detail as much info as possible for the following by using the PSU calculator here.
http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp
Fill in this, and see how many watts your system is currently using, and then by adding how many watts the 3850 uses, we can determine if it is necessary to upgrade PSU as well. I think you probably will have to, so keep this in mind.

Hey there everyone on TechSpot...
Recently I upgraded from a Geforce 6800 GS to an ATI Radeon HD3850 (both AGP)
After having carefully followed all the steps required to install a new graphics card
(i.e. deleting of old drivers, installing the new ones etc.) I still get an error. In particular this one: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
I even contacted the manufacturer of the card (Sapphire) but they weren't of much help, giving me a constant list to do things that I had already done.
I uploaded the latest 2 minidumps that were created from the crashes to (possibly) help solve the issue. (edit) I also uploaded my dxdiag, in case my other system specs are gonna be requested.
Hope you guys can help me,

Okay, I asked this question at another tech cite:
Motherboard 939 with Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 2 gigs of RAM, XP PRO sp/2, SATA HD 7200.
I want to upgrade from my old X800GTO 256 DDR3 to either a 3850 in 256 or 512.
Question: Will my dual core bottleneck either version?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The answer I received was:
I think the 3850 will bottleneck the 3800+ on the latest games that are the most demanding. The 3800+ X2 is ok for desktop stuff. Chatting email and so forth. It's also ok for games that have been around for a while.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To which I ask my TechSpot family, "What is your understanding?" Surely an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ can do a little more than "desktop stuff." No, its not the latest or greatest but few of anything software takes advantage of dual core as it is, including, with a few exceptions, games.
A video card purchase will be my last upgrade to my 939 system for a long while until I am forced to upgrade to another OS and by that time I'll have moved on.
So I'd like to get your thoughts on my inquiry and any other recommendations for a video card.
Thanks.
Let's be clear on what IS the bottleneck and when.
if you install the readon 3850 with 512M:
For most NEW games...your bottleneck will be the AMD 3800, then the amount and speed of RAM and then your HDD.
I'm assuming the 3850 is the equivalent of the nvidia 8800 series?
Hello everyone.
I'm new here and I need some help with my computer. I hope to get some help if that's possible.
I upgraded my PC few months ago. So my current configuration is:
Gigabyte GA-MA770-US3 v2.0
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor(4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Kingmax 4096MB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3850 Series, 512MB
Seagate Barracuda, 640 GB
Samsung SyncMaster P2250
Power Supply 600 W
Its a custom made PC, I bought everything on my own hand. I thought everything should work fine. And everything did work fine. But problems started while playing games.
When playing THPS: American Wasteland for example, game runs perfectly. But at some point (its usually randomly), whole pc crashes. I get black screen and pc is still running. I cant reset it on reset button like usually. I have to hold power button few seconds until it shuts down. And then when I turn it on again everything works fine.
Any idea what could cause this kind of problem?
Also before that I had same configuration but different motherboard, instead Gigabyte GA-MA770-US3 i had GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3.
I donno what happened to DS3 version actually. I turned it on and i got black screen, i could feel the smell of burnt electronics. Tried it on my friends PC, it didn't want to start also. So i guessed something burned up. So i bought US3 version.
I did not reinstall my OS since DS3 version. I only installed drives for US3 version, and everything else was the same. But now my windows freezes randomly. S... Read more

I recently got a ATI 3850 for my PC, i set everything up and i come to install the CCC & Driver i get an error message which says Failed To Load Detection Driver when i boot my PC in safe mode the monitor is clear which is normal but when i boot it normally (Win7 64 Home) i get lines going horizontal across my screen.
I would love some help. Thanks.
did you install driver downloaded from manufacturer site or AMD site?
for example I can't install driver on my toshiba downloaded from AMD, but only from manufacturer site!
don't know why is that so but so it is.
Heya
I was advised by many to get this card for my system, which I did. Even with the quick fix......(the newer one I got from teh Saphire site,) I have still have had a nightmare with this card. Ati doesn't seem to support this card even when you get the listed driver, and my biggest hurt is it won't run Fallout 3 OR even Turok. There seems some weird mystery reason why the game freezes or stops and restarts windows or something else. I used to run these games on my old card....they were just at lowest setting and slow.
Any advice or help or something I should install that mind fix this?
thanks!
(for Turock it locks after 5 minutes of play....and with Fallout 3 it gives me an error message after 2 minutes.... :-(
Hey, I'm using an MSI ATI Radeon HD 3850 OC video card, and i'm trying to connect it to my TV using a DVI to HDMI cable. It works, but the problem is: the screen has a very red tint (like the whole screen is red, and it's fine on my regular monitor.) Does anyone know what causes this, or how to fix it? Thanks for any help
Hi all,
I know that the Sapphire card has recvd a lot of attention in the forums which made me register here. My m'board is Gigabyte GA-K8U-939 with Athlon X2 2.6 GHz and 3GB DDR. Windows 7 x64 detected the card but had an yellow symbol with the status code 43. Aero could not be enabled because of that. A poster torrentg seems to have sorted out this particular issue for a lot of people. I tried all his suggestions but the code 43 exists. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lex

9 more repliesHey there,
I'm trying to squeeze just a tiny bit more life out of my aging PC (which I use almost exclusively for gaming). Just added another Gig of RAM, to make it 2Gb.
Now I'm looking at video cards - problem is, my motherboard has no PCI-E slot, AGP only (it's an Asus 939 - still perky except for the lack of PCI-E).
I know AGP is on the way out the door - but can't afford to upgrade video card PLUS mobo at this point - hoping someone can share their thoughts on dropping around $130 on a Radeon HD 3850 (512Mb) (the best AGP card I can afford).
Will I see a huge improvement over my GeForce 7600 GS (256Mb)?
Will I be able to play Crysis (it's gathering dust on my shelf - unplayable even at 800x600 on my current rig), even if it's at low settings? STALKER: Clear Sky with Dynamic Lighting enabled?
Just how much will this extend the gaming life of my PC?
I know I should just wait until I can afford card + mobo upgrade, but there are some great games coming out that I want to be able to play all-shiny-like (Dead Space, Far Cry2, FALLOUT 3!) right now.
Any thoughts, opinions, input welcome.
Other specs:
WinXP
AMD 3500+
2Gb DDR400
It would be quite a huge improvement, yet, the coming games will prove problematic with that card, too... 2 GB of slow RAM and a 3500+ don't make things any better.
Hi,
For the last 3 years i have worked with Windows XP , 2x Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512 MB videocards and 3 monitors connected (2x 22inch and 1x 19inch).
This worked without a single problem.
Since i got a terrible virus i was forced to upgrade to Windows 7.
And from this moment the problems started.
Only 1 22 inch monitor displays the correct resolution 1680x1050. The other 22inch is set to a lower resolution and when i manually try to set it higher it wont go to the desired resolution.
In the mean time i have removed the 3rd monitor. So currently i am working with the 2x 22inch.
I have tried to install every single driver available but nothing works.
The funny thing is that when i installed windows 7 that the monitors did work for about 3days. Suddenly the monitor resolution changed and i couldnt got it back.
1 time when trying installing older drivers the monitors went back to the good resolution but with in a day it failed again. Now after 2 weeks of trying and installing /deleting drivers i have no idea what to do anymore.
My PC details:
Windows 7 Home premium 64bit
Quad Core Q6600 2.40 GHz
4GB RAM memory
Gigabyte GA-P35-D34 rev. 2.1 motherboard
2x Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512mb PCI-e videocards
(I am using ultramon for multiple taskbar)(but after removing it the problems still exist)
Can someone help me ?
Hello!
I installed windows 7 on my Dell studio 1535 yesterday, however I can't get the proper resolution for my samsung 23" monitor.
On Vista I had my 23 inch monitor hooked up to my laptop via DVI port and in Catalyst I'd turn off the main laptop screen, only using the 23' samsung for main. Now that I've installed windows 7 I can't run the 1920x1280 (the largest) resolution on my big screen, the maximum for it is 1280x768... I'm suspecting the driver isn't working well with Windows 7, and I've already downloaded 10.3 ATI drivers and they don't solve the problem either.
Basically I want to run the big resolution 1920x1280 on my screen. Please help me, it's very frustrating my video card is ATI Radeon 3400 HD.
Thank you in advance guys...
Just a few tips, probably not going to fix your problems:
You have make the lcd monitor your one and only monitor to properly set your resolution. Also, make sure you're setting the resolution through the catalyst control panel and not the windows settings.
Make sure you downloaded the proper drivers. (Either 32 or 64 bit, PCIe or AGP, etc)
You can force your computer to display all modes, not just the compatible ones via
Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Display > Adjust Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > Monitor Tab > Uncheck Hide Modes that this monitor cannot display
Warning
Note: The process above could possibly harm your monitor.
i recently upgraded my video card to ati radeon 9000 pro... and after installing all of the latest drivers from the ati site, opengl doesn't work in counter-strike.
i have tried reinstalling the drivers, but i really don't know what else to do.
i'm running windows 98se
if anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
btw.. when i try to use opengl in counter-strike.. it tells me that my video card doesn't support the opengl mode i selected. didn't realize my radeon was so obsolete lol.. thanks in advance
My machine is fitted with a Radeon 5770 video card. I normally connect to my monitor via the dvi output with no problems. However when I noticed that both the monitor and the video card have HDMI ports I tried connecting with a HDMI cable. The result was a "No Signal" error on the monitor and no video as a result. What have I missed out on here?
Thanks in advance for any help

Aero should work with that graphics card. You may however need to download and install the Legacy driver from the link below to enable Aero.

Might was well give us your computer specs as well. Mobo make/model in particular.
I just bought a new system and I am not very technical. My graphics card has DVI, HDMI, & VGA ports (no display port). The monitors have the same 3 ports, so I thought they would work, but it seems like the system will only recognize any 2 of the 3 monitors. I have been told that I either need display ports or active dongle adapters, which I don't understand. Is that true?

True, and you probably need both. One of the three must be on a Display Port connection either to a Display Port monitor (expensive) or a DVI monitor using the adapter. ATI's newer video cards labeled "Eyefinity" are what you're after.
A (somewhat) cheaper solution is to drop a second video card in there and run the third monitor off of that. If the third monitor is only for something requiring a 2D picture (as in, not a 3D-intensive game, etc) a very cheap second video card will do.
Hi,
i have have an Inspiron 15, 7000 series, bought about 9 months ago. On the laptop there are 2 video card: one integrated video card (intel HD graphics 5500) and one dedicated video card (AMD Radeon R M270). The problem is simple: the dedicated video card doesn't work; actually i can't even understand if it activates or not. I'm gonna explain better.
When i bought the laptop, i didn't noticed anything wrong with that, probably because the laptop was very fast, much faster then my old one. About one month ago, i had to use some programs for graphics, 3d modeling and rendering, and i noticed that there was something wrong qith the video card. Then i tried to deativate the integrated intel graphic to verify if the dedicated video card properly works. As i deativate the intel graphic card, the pc started using another video card (don't remember the ecactly the name, but looked like if it was a basic video card intergrated in the laptop - for sure a very ''poor'' video card). But the main problem was that the dedicated video card did't start working.
Then, i deativate the integrated radeon video card and reactivate the integrated intel video card: surprisingly i noticed that some programms, games or 3d modelling programms started working faster and more fluently.
Now the dedicated videocard is not active, but of course i wanna use it.
The diagnostic service on the dell website doen't even detect the amd video card (of course i have ac... Read more
I have a Dimension 4400 computer, and recently purchased a Radeon 9100 graphics card. After installing the card, all I get on my monitor is "No Signal". Is this a compatible card for this computer? And if it is, any suggestions as to what might resolve this issue? Thanks y'all!
After chatting with Dell Support, they say that my system may not be compatible with 128MB card. However, when I search their parts and upgrades for my computer, all the graphics cards they recommend are 128MB, 256MB, even 512MB cards!! Now if my system won't handle those cards, then why do they recommend them as upgrades? When I asked that to the dell chat rep, he said I'd have to contact Dell Solution Station, which of course I'd then have to pay them to use!! Man, I'm really about to get fed up with Dell!! So does anyone know if this is true? Will the 128MB card not work in my system if my system is set for 64MB?
The memory located on the video card is separate from the computers system memory. The set 64MB memory, is on-board graphics memory. You should turn the on-board graphics in the bios off before you install a graphics card

I'm currently running Windows Vista 64-Bit. Recently the windows update manager informed me of a bunch of updates that I needed to do. I noticed a graphics card update called 3200 or something and remembered having problems with a few games. So I went to the task of installing the update, but now apparently my Catalyst Control Centre doesn't support my driver version. I'm puzzled whether the update was for the drivers, or the control centre. However, the problems in my games have been fixed, I notice that Crysis can barely run on high (I should be able to run on Ultra High see my specs).
Today I tried to update the control centre and drivers together using an installer from ATI but it just crashes when i say install or uninstall, windows told me of a hotfix, which I downloaded, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Any suggestions on driver, control centre, or my Crysis problems? Thanks.
First uninstall the windows update.
Now uninstall any ati type software ie CCC or whatever.
Download the latest driver from ati/amd and install it.
FWIW I just install the driver only and not CCC.

Hey all,
I recently installed Windows 7 (64 bit) on my computer and I have yet to get working drivers for my Poworcolor 3850 AGP card. I've tried all the Catalyst suites, inlcuding those with hotfixes. I've tried manually installing multiple drivers through the Device Manager and still no dice. Everything else hardware wise runs just fine. Any ideas?
I'm currently running:
Cpu: Amd Opteron 180 Dual Core (2.4 GHz)
GPU: PoworColor 3850 AGP 5112 mb GDDR3
Thanks ahead!
Two problems with your set up,
1. The chipset on your motherboard. It is the NF3 and Nvidia hasn't supported that since the last XP update from November 2005 (and never released a Vista driver for it). As a result of that I'm not sure what is being used for the AGP/GART driver, which is required for your AGP card to work properly. Have a look around here,
View forum - nForce Drivers • nForcersHQ.com
been a while, but pretty sure that I saw a re-mix of drivers for that chipset that worked with Vista; might get lucky and find something that will work with 7.
2. Your AGP card. Without the AGP driver mentioned above, you're going to have problems. Also ATI never officially supported that card (or any of the HD2xxx or 3xxx series in AGP), but they do put out the AGP hotfix driver for it,
Catalyst AGP Hotfix - Radeon HD 3000 and Radeon HD 2000 Series AGP products
Save that link as it will be the same every month when they release the hotfix, they'll just update the download links.

I recently bought a C.D. and wanted to upload it to iTunes and put it on my iPod, but it would not load. I thought, "Oh, it must have a security thing." So I tried it in a C.D. player. It worked. I tried once more with the computer, and it failed. The driver shows up. But there is no C.D. I even tried another C.D. to see if it was just the one I had bought, but it wasn't. Any ideas?
Hi lol_alex_lol30 and welcome to TSF
I can help you with some basics, but you will need to check further to get all the data you need, as I don't upload to iTunes.
I'm assuming you bought an audio CD. I'm also assuming that iTunes would like to see MP3 audio files....You will need to find that out. This though, is true. When you burn an audio CD from music files, those files are most likely in the form of WAV on your harddrive. They are burned onto the CD with a .cda extension and are named track 1, track 2, etc. The song names are not shown on the CD if you view it with Windows Explorer.
Extracting songs from an audio CD to harddrive is called ripping the song. Songs end up on your harddrive in the form of "songname.wav". songname will be Track1, Track2, etc. and you will have to rename each to have the actual song title associated with the song. WAV files are quite large and about 24 songs is the maxium that you can burn onto an audio CD.
Mpeg level 3 (MP3) is a compression specification that can be used to make much smaller audio files. A 20,000,000 (20 meg) WAV file will compress into a MP3 file that is about 2 meg or less. A file that is 10 to 11 times smaller than the WAV file. I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that small files upload much faster than very large ones. Also you can put about 240 mp3 files on a CD, but only about 24 wav files. You could also appreciate that your ear can't tell the difference between the sound of... Read more
Dear Sir,
yesterday I installed windows 7 home premium x64
Before installing nvidia driver it runs well with windows default video performace (800x600).
But after installing nvidia driver, it doesn't work perfectly
MY problems after installing nvidia driver
1. It runs well before showing the start up window (welcome window where I have to entry my password)
2. But when I run the windows in safe mode it works perfectly
3. You can say that it is for driver problem / driver software problem. But I used the driver in the previous windows 7 home premium x64
If you need anything related with my problem, then comment in down
Thanks.
Hi rx123yz. Your issue sounds like that Windows have installed its own drivers over new ones that you installed. Remove all the old drivers and use Driver Sweeper. This little software removes all the bits of the old drivers. Below is the link to download the S/W. Before uninstalling the old drivers, download the latest drivers for your card from Sevenforums or from Nvidia site and install them after uninstalling and sweeping off the old drivers with driver sweeper.

Hello,
In Windows 7, I am trying to figure out if I have any faulty drivers. I have been having BSODs for a while, and I've removed RAM etc. So the next step was to test drivers.
But I can't run Driver Verifier. No matter which drivers I select, the Driver Verifier causes a blue screen as the windows 7 logo starts to come together. I have to clear the settings in Safe mode to get it back.
Is there any way to fix this, or any other way to check my drivers?
(My most recent BSODs have said caused by dxgmms1.sys and tcpip.sys -- lots of IRQL_not_less_or_equal and system_thread_exception_not_handled.)
The purpose of Driver Verifier is to cause a Blue Screen of Death.
Analysis of the memory dump files will then (if it's worked) let the analyst know what driver caused it.
You'll know this because there will be a Driver Verifier Enabled memory dump.
FWIW - I had a system at work today that would spit out the IRQL error messages, but not the Driver Verifier Enabled error messages. I finally enabled all settings in Driver Verifier and then rebooted. An hour and a half later the system was still booting with the Windows 7 splash screen.
The point here is that the settings that you use in Driver Verifier are critical - and are determined by the type of BSOD events you are getting (for example, if you have BAD_POOL_CALLER errors, then you want to enable the POOL checking options in Driver Verifier).
Please zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory and upload/attach the .zip file to your next post.

Hi,
I?ve got some problem with my W-LAN device. Recently I?ve got a strange feeling about it because some things didn?t work correctly, so I decided to reinstall the driver. It didn?t work directly (I don?t know why), so I tried to uninstall it first, to install it again. Now I got this message:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
An update for the latest driver was useless because I already got the latest one. I tried both installing it from the device manager several times, which failed everytime with this message to come, and by the driver setup (there is a folder available on my computer with all drivers installed on it), which seemed not to have any effect, although it said "Installation complete". Has anyone a solution for me?
I?m going to reinstall my Windows soon, but it?ll take some weeks to that. But until that, I need my W-LAN to work again!
I?ve got Win 7 Home Premium 32bit, my W-LAN device is a Broadcom 802.11g, my notebook is a Lenovo G550.
Thanks for any help, Bennington
First go into Device Manager (right click on Computer and choose properties, then Device Manager), then go ahead and delete the Broadcom device under Network adapters. Then try and install only the most recent Lenovo supplied driver for your laptop model. Let us know how that goes...
6 more repliesEvery time I start up the computer, my video card stops working. When I look in Device Manager, it shows the video card there, but with an exclamation mark by it which means it's in a 'problem state'. I can fix it by reinstalling the driver, but I have to do this every time I turn it on! How do I make it work every time?
Hey guys,
Yesterday I formatted and reinstalled windows Vista on my new Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. I've gone through the whole driver CD, installed everything there, but wireless still doesn't work! It doesn't find any networks. I realize that the drivers CD just has the default 1720 drivers, so some things might be different (for example, the default video card is 8400, but mine has an 8600, and the driver for that isn't on the CD). Perhaps I require a different wireless driver?
If that is the case, how do I know which one I have and where to get the propoer driver for it?
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you.

HP Deskjet 610CL driver doesn't work with Vista. HP Support in Bombay, India says "You should buy a new printer."
Printer still works great with windows 2000.
So should I remove Vista & install Windows 2000 on my PC or is the a driver somewhere that will fix the problem? Don't tell me to go to HP website. BTDT, it teels me that the driver is already installed on Vista. That's the one that doesn't work.
Anybody know ANYTHING about this problem?
Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum, I'm not sure if this should be in graphics cards or drivers...or somewhere else entirely.
I have an Intel 845GL Chipset....I can't find a driver to make it work using Vista.
Do I have to buy a new graphic card? Or am I missing something easy, or is there a work around?
Ok, I am resolved to replacing my video card.
I've never replaced a video card before, but I've upgraded memory, installed a hard drive and a modem before...is replacing a video card more complicated than that?
And, where should I start in determining what is compatible for my system/Vista etc?
My boss bought a new HP tower after our old one ran out of space. I plugged it in and everything worked until I realised the scanner didn't work. I downloaded a driver but it still didnt activate the scanner. So I looked at the driver repair discs that came with the tower. I installed that thinking it would repair the scanner driver and when I logged back in, the keyboard or mouse USB didnt work. I hope I didn't screw up anything. The keyboard works in BIOS. My boss doesn't know and I would like to get this repaired without bringing anyone in. HELP! Im on Windows 7.
More repliesHi there!
I just got my new Asus Vivobook s400ca running Win8.1, a few weeks ago.
It really runs great, although I managed to find one problem. Since this is a laptop without a detachable screen,
I didn't really find any good reason for having the touch keyboard toolbar () in my task bar, since I was pretty sure I'd never need it. So I disabled the keyboard, which worked out fine but the toolbar was still there.
I then went on to try to remove it by using one of EightForum's .reg files for that purpose.
This did, as described, remove the toolbar, but apparantly it stopped the mouse pad driver as well, even though the mouse pad itself basically works. (no gestures or scrolling though.)
As you can see here, There's no driver running.
And in the ASUS hub, it's also impossible to turn it on. It just keeps saying it's off.
So I decided to use another .reg file that I found with the initial one, that should basically just rollback the effect that the other one had, but to no avail.
It just made the toolbar come back.
So I don't really know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Also, if there is anyone who knows what to do about that toolbar, please do tell! [:
Thanks in advance! [:
Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver. What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

2 more repliesThe Stylus Pro 7600 is now a really old printer, the last supported driver was for XP but it worked in Windows 7 and I believe to some extent in 8 although I never did try it.
It s a really good reliable large format printer though and very affordable in parts, ink and the second-hand purchase price.
However alas Windows 10 doesn't like it, I did the upgrade to 10 (and then the downgrade) from windows 7 but it will not see the driver it sees the device but calls it a USB high speed device or something like that and compatibility mode didn't seem to help.
So unless there is a clever work around and I'd love that to happen I'm stuck on Windows 7 for the duration.
Suggestions welcome.
No cleverness here, and I don't have such a printer, but...
Have you tried the drivers for Vista?
Epson Stylus Pro 7600 - Photographic Dye Ink, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
These are for the dye-based version. I didn't look to see whether the Ultrachrome based one uses different drivers.
(There are also 32 bit Windows.) If they don't want to install, you could try right clicking on the installer and running the Troubleshoot Compatibility tool.
Good luck.
Hi,
I installed a new HDD on my Satellite A210-106. Usually it runs on Vista but I had Win XP Professional installed.
Everything woks but the sound/speakers. The driver ist not installed correct.
There unsed to be realtek driver on the old HDD but I can?t get hold of the driver working on XP on the toshiba download list or via realtek.

Which service pack version contains your installed WXP?
4 more repliesI'm trying to add a Canon imageCLASS MF7470 printer to my laptop. When I plug it into the USB, Windows 7 detects it, but as unspecified. It says no driver is installed. When I do a Windows update it comes up with other imageCLASS models but not the one I have. I've tried going thru these threads to locate my options but nothing works. When I go to add printer, properties is as far as I can go cause the only tabs I get there are general and hardware. This is a work printer for a jobsite, so of course the disk has been lost at some point, but I need this running ASAP.
Here is the driver page for Canon, just specify your OS, download drivers, install and go at it could be that MS just doesn't provide them. However Canon does for both 32 and 64 bit.

Ok, so I've re-installed Windows XP (SP2) and after it booted up, I noticed that my onboard ethernet adapter wasn't recognised. So I went and downloaded the appropriate drivers (SiS900.zip) from the mobo's official site (it's a PCChips M848A mobo) but when I try to install the drivers, it still says that the hardware isn't functional (Code 1).
I've tried many different versions of SiS900 drivers but it simply won't work.
When I tried the setup.exe file that came with the official driver, the install would say "Update Driver for PnP Device Fail. Setup will exit".
That's when I simply forwarded the windows hardware installer to an XP folder i found in the zip file. But still, it doesn't work.
I really need help on this matter. Thanks in advance...
EDIT: Maybe it's worth mentioning that I re-installed WinXP over an existing windows partition without formatting it. I simply deleted the former windows installation files.
Have you tried directing the driver to install from SiS900\WinXP\netoem.inf ?
Go into your device manager, right click the device under network adapters and click update driver. From there direct it to the aforementioned file.

turns out I installed the incorrect driver for my video card and suffered from the BSOD syndrome....
well, I finally got that sorted out, ( I think ) and now I am trying relentlessly to get catalyst pro control center to work properly. Ive read numerous places online that involves editing the Assembly folder, but I have no such keys in there.
when I try and run CCC, it tells me that I am unable to run as I wouldn't be able to change any settings within the app basically. Ive tried uninstalling, installing. trying ATI opposed to AMD- to no anvil.
I know for a fact that I had CCC on this pc, but it almost seems impossible to get up and running, I am very desperate to get this up and running.

Got a new tablet pc. Put in a new hard drive and installed vista ultimate x64. Works great. I was suprised how much smoother it runs.
The 11a/b/g/n wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter isn't recognized by vista. My friend said it might be a problem because it doesn't work with 64 bit software. Went through the long process of installing vista 32 bit version. Same thing. It was recognized by vista.
So now here I am with 64 bit vista installed again. I downloaded a couple drivers that it could be from lenovo website. It still didn't work.
Before I started this whole project I went to the microsoft upgrade site to check compatability. While running XP, the site said that I would have to download the wireless lan driver and install it after i installed vista. It also said the fingerprint reader would need to be manually installed but I don't care about that.
Any suggestions?

I downloaded Win7 x86 drivers for our Ricoh Aficio MP 171 from Ricoh, to load them onto a machine freshly updated from XP to Win 7. Every time i try to install them, Windows tells me the default driver it chose is the best one and won't install it. The driver it is using does squat, the printer was working fine when it was connected to XP, now the most we have gotten out of it is a few pages of jibberish when we tried to print a photo.
I have tried manually installing the driver from the device manager, i tell it to use a folder on the desktop where i copied the driver, but when i press next it immediately says the driver being used is up to date. I tried telling it to read from a dvd i burned the driver folder on to, it doesn't like that either.
I am toying with the idea of deleting the default driver from system32 (but copying it first to a data key), disconnecting from the 'net, and then installing the one from Ricoh.
Hi briligg, Have you tried installing the drivers in admin mode Run as Administrator Some times you have to overrule win7 and tell it you know best this time

I have an ASUS notebook running windows 7 64-bit. I am using the QuietOffice power profile, however the screensaver won't kick in no matter what I do, and the display does not turn off even though I set it to be after 5-minutes of inactivity. I don't know if there is something running in the background... I have turned off my usb wireless mouse, and nothing....
Any ideas?
THanks.
This is another case of factory bloatware interfering - in this case a useless factory utility overriding Win7's superior built-in version.
Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.
Here are other tips for cleaning up factory bloatware
I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:
- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...
Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..
Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!
no replies yet? :(
anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.
Defragged my C drive, still no results besides the computer feeling a bit smoother-running o_o
I have a 4y old Sony VAIO (VGN-NS11J) that stopped working today morning after making a whirring noise
Repeated attempts to restart failed and after many attempts, I managed to get to the Startup Repair mode - after a long time, startup repair says it failed to automatically repair the problem
I managed to run system restore but after a while I got the following message: "System restore failed due to an unspecified error. The disk strucgture is corrupted and unreadable (0X80070571)
My laptop did not come with a Windows Vista CD/Recovery disk
My first priority is to recover a few files in the laptop - if I am able to do this, then I dont mind junking the laptop
Since this is an old laptop, I would prefer not to use an expensive professional to recover the data
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

1 more repliesFor the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.
It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.
3 more repliesHave a friend with a relatively new Lenovo laptop using Windows XP SP3. Overnight he can't access the Internet via browsers, email or AIM. His desktop connected to the same router is working fine.
He can access the router by IP address using either IE7 or FireFox 3.5. Anything that needs a DNS server doesn't work. This does say though that he has a working connection to the router.
He's run MalWareBytes and his own McAffee software looking for bad stuff but has found nothing.
Running "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt gives exactly the same results for the laptop as his working desktop. The DNS servers are there. He can ping the DNS servers using their IP addresses. He is being assigned a proper local network address so DHCP is working on the router.
Any thoughts on where to look next to discover why the Internet applications don't seem to be able to find the DNS servers?
FWIW, my friend took his laptop to a PC shop. Their diagnosis was malware. I don't know the identity of the malware. Anyway, the shop saved his data then formatted and reloaded XP SP3.

Hello.
I am quite new here, but I've been wanting to get this problem solved for a long time, and I haven't seemed to get any answer.
So here's my problem:
I bought my Asus N53SV for around a year ago, and it worked great. But for some reason something changed.
When I try to open bluetooth, nothing happens. And when I want to connect anything using bluetooth, it doesn't work.
I tried to do this:
[windows] + r >bttray
But nothing opens up.
Please help!
Thank you,
Karstin

Hi Karstin,
Welcome to Seven Forums.
You would need to re-install Bluetooth software/driver for your system. Please check the link below for finding out the drivers:

Hi... xp stopped responding and I decided to power off.
Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.
Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.
The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.
The system that had the problem was running Win XP Home SP1. Unfortunately, I can't find the manufacturer's recovery CD.
HD is still in the other PC. How should I attack the problem?
Update... Three passes of AVG and all threats were put in vault. Tried to re-install the HD to the initial system but no change... System says it didn't start correctly, that a new software of hardware could be responsible, the suggests to try las known good config, none of the options work, they all perform some tasks then windows reboots and ends up in the same screen.
I have the specified problem at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913405
My power options and my screensaver DO NOT work after installing a wireless pointing device but I DO NOT HAVE Cyberlink nor ANY of the startup items indicated in the article!!!!!!! but they STILL DO NOT work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Manufacturer and model of the device installed?
If you remove the device...do problems disappear?

My problem is that I cannot access the internet through my LAC. I enable the connection and it will connect and send packets, but will not receive any packets. I have no problems enabling my wireless connection and connecting to the internet. The wireless does like to disconnect and reconnect about 3 or 4 times an hour which is another problem I have. I believe this LAC problem started around the same time I was trying to get shared music between my computers on iTunes. I was trying to allow for connection on port 3689, but everything I did was unsuccessful. Any suggestions for any of these problems I'm having?
Acer aspire's Bluetooth doesn't work since I bought it I've installed drivers too but it doesn't work what should I do.
In its specs it has Bluetooth . But there is no Bluetooth device found in device manager how to repair this.

Hello. My notebook is HP Probook 450 G1 with AMD Radeon HD 8750M and Intel HD 4400 I just reinstall Windows on my notebook . And now i have problems with AMD driver, cause i can't install drivers for it. First of all i must observe that device manager and GPU-Z doesn't detect it. The second thing i've detected - in GPU-Z shows that multi-gpu is OFF. In BIOS dual graphics switched on, so i can't realise what is the problem. Allready turned my BIOS to default, but didn't help .In my old windows always was ok, but now she doesn't detect AMD too, only Intel HD.
More repliesI'm not quite sure if this belongs in the games or hardware forums(Kinda game related), so I'm just giving it a shot here. My computer is very stable unless I decide to play World of Warcraft. When that happens, it runs about 1-20 minutes at a time before the computer screen goes black and A) Stays that way with a sharp buzzing sound in the speakers, or B) Restarts on its own. I have the case's siding off because I thought it was a heating issue (it may still be), but the computer restarts only when I run WoW. I don't see how the video card would have ample cooling without having a fan on it, and I'm not sure if I can just throw one on it and be good to go. Any way I can make my computer run cooler to see if the problem deals with cooling besides throwing a fan on?
I had an nVidia GeForce 2 and I installed GTA:San Andreas. Obviously it didn't run smoothly, but I was able at least to enter the game.
Now I bought an ATI RADEON 9250 AGP with 256MB, and San Andreas doesn't run. When I click the icon the cursor shows the waiting sign for a couple of seconds and that's it. What could it be?
I have a Pentium IV 2.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM. ATI Catalyst version is 5.3, which came in the cd bundle.
Please help, I don't know what to do - I know it has to run, it must be a drivers version, so please don't tell me I had to buy another card.
I cannot get Windows Media Encoder 9 to work at all at home, but I have no problems with it at work, so I know I'm not trying to do something with it that it can't handle.
At home, every time I try to convert either an AVI or a VOB to WMV, either using the wizard or the custom settings, it lets me get through it all and then, when it starts trying to encode, it throws up the message:
"Windows Media Encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ..."
It never gives me any more information than this, just crashes and closes. I've tried repairing it through the control panel, as well as completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it hasn't helped.
At home I'm running Windows XP Media Center. At work, where I've never had it crash, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Is there something in Media Center that causes it to crash? Is there any patch I can download or thing I can do to get it to work on my home computer?
Thanks for your help.
I'm currently having the same problem . I open the .vob file set the output folder , settings etc etc . just as it was about to start converting , WME just stops and crashes . I use windows xp home edition so if your company's xp professional can make it work im thinking it is something in the professional edition which allows it to work not something in our edition that doesnt allow it to work. Are there any alternatives for encoding a video? i dont have much cash right now so i was hoping i might find some freeware alternatives . thanks
After I install LIBusb I could work futher. But after I put him off en reboot an hour later my wired mouse en keyboard didn't work anymore.
When I restart in safe mode both still doesnt work.

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.
I'm running Windows Vista.
The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software
Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.
Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.
I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.
At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.
Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more
Dear All
I'm using Dell Vostro 3350 now. After I upgrade Win 10 Pro, the Laptop Speaker doesn't work and can't give output any sound. But if I put my earphone, all of the sound include song work.
I use PC Doctor and scan the computer hardware but there is nothing found error on hardware and software. I also use windows update to scan all of the drivers, but it can't found any update drivers of this laptop. So what can I do next to fix the problem?
Thank you for member's attention
Hello. Dell does not recommend installing Win10 on the Vostro 3350 model. Dell says, "If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected." To get the best performance from your laptop, revert it back to the previous operating system. You can google to find instructions for undoing Win10.
If you want to continue with Win10, then try to install the IDT Win8 audio driver using compatibility mode.
1. Click the link to go to the driver's page. Download and save the driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive. 2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win8.
Help! See the title.
I'm going mad because I can't listen to music! I've tried three different mediaplayers (Windows Media Player, VLC & QuickTime) and all three just don't work! WMP won't even play the files, VLC will (in .avi-case even with picture!) but there won't be sound :/. Same for QuickTime,...
Now, the weird thing is that I can play games without a problem and the sound's still there! Hell, even sounds made by Windows -- I hear 'em! YouTube works too!
I'm concerned there might be something wrong in the registry,... (I use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner/Defrag regularly, I guess something was bound to go wrong,...)
Please, help? :(
(Windows 7, btw.)
Apparently I made a mistake,... Sound in games doesn't work* System sounds and YouTube do, though.
3 more repliesAlright,
So whenever a program uses InstallShield to install or uninstall a program, it boots up, and the bar fills up preparing to run the Wizard, and right when it fills, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while launching the setup. The specified module could not be found," and then it quits.
This occurs anytime I try to install or uninstall anything that uses InstallShield. I've tried everything at the InstallShield troubleshooting site, including deleting a file in the registry (the problem key was there but deleting it didn't solve the problem), making sure I had admin privilidges, and emptying out the Temp folder. I can't reinstall InstallShield because it (ironically) requires InstallShield to install.
The one problem that I can think of would be that I just got back from college. At college, I logged onto a network to use the computer. Could this have something to do with it? I've tried logging onto the computer itself as the Admin, but the problem still occurs. This whole thing really sucks because the comp is pretty much useless not being able to install or uninstall anything.
Thanks for any help.
Depending on what version of InstallShield you have here is a site that shows some of it's program errors >
http://helpnet.installshield.com/robo/projects/installshield10-5compact/CP_IHelpBuildErrors.htm
Have you tried this site > http://consumer.installshield.com/
InstallShield uses the Windows Installer Service. It could be that Windows Installer Service has somehow become corrupted.
Check this site out > http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201
As a last resort you might consider reinstalling your Windows Operating System on top of itself to repair and replace the corrupted or missing files associated with InstallShield and Windows Installer Service.
Just for your information, InstallShield is the oldest installer program company. However there is another that is completely free “Inno Setup” which you may have seen when installing some programs. Here’s their site > http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php
I just purchased a new computer and it has a athlon 64 3500+ motherboard. I came home took out my videocard from my old computer and tried installing it in the new computer but it doesn't fit. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or that the videocard is just not compatibly with this computer.

Hi guys i need help.
I have an Acer Aspire E1-572G (Windows 8.1 64-bit OS) with Intel HD Graphics 4400 and AMD Radeon HD 8670M. When i run games however, my laptop uses Intel card instead of my AMD card.
Things i've tried:
Setting application to High Performance in Switchable GraphicsReinstalling AMD/Intel Drivers from both AMD/Intel sites and Acer sites (Used a proper uninstaller to remove all files)Disabling my Intel Graphic Card results in my laptop using Microsoft Basic Rendering DriverUninstalling my Intel Graphic Card also results in using Microsoft Basic Rendering DriverUsing CPU-Z shows AMD Radeon HD 8670M but most information are missing (unknown or 0) unlike Intel Graphics which displays everything. Upon clicking sensor, all my temperatures are set to 0 (which means it's not in use)Using dxdiag shows my Intel Graphics as default driver, not AMD.
I've tried everything i could possibly do so i'm seeking help from experts here. I've seen articles which stated that Windows 8.1 are buggy with Switchable Graphics and may cause problems like these. Is that true?
For dual mismatched GPU's like Intel/AMD I recommend using the laptop manufacturers drivers, over doing two separate driver installs. The laptop manufacturers driver is custom tailored for your dual switchable graphics. Which driver are you using now? I haven't had any issues in Windows 8.1 as far as my switchable graphics goes. Mine are AMD/AMD though so I can use a driver right from AMD's web site. I get all kinds of ccc has stopped working messages in Windows 10 though.

Hi and Welcome bogdan98nitu. Looks like you have only one choice and that is a xp driver on this page. Catalyst? 6.11 Display Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
you may want to look at this page with the chart for drivers and os's
Graphics Drivers & Software
also you may need to install in compatibility mode and the tutorial for that is here

I thought that buying a new vid card would be a cool thing to do, so I read reviews and ended up with this piece of plastic.... the AIW Radeon 7500 4x/2x bus 64 meg ram. Neato,,, this is going to do everything that I want from a vid card.
Nope!!
I am running a gigabyte 'GA-7VKMP' motherboard with 256 meg ddr ram, onboard vga, audio and network, and a Panasonic 'PanaSync S15' monitor.
After uninstalling the S3 adapter and getting back to standard vga and installing the card and drivers 'in any order' and even getting to the point of frustration where I formatted my machine to do a fresh install of win 98, and then reinstalling all drivers I still get the same thing.
Before my desktop loads here are the msgs that I get
"There is a problem with your display settings, the adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware."
after I cancel the display settings menu popup, because I cannot change anything to other than standard vga settings, here is the next msg.
"ATI control panel failed to initialize because no ATI drivers are installed, or ATI driver is not working properly. ATI control panel will now exit."
I cannot find any conflicts, or other problems in the system inf except the following two drivers are "not installed" under display

i bought a ATI Radeon XT 9600 and when i put it in and plug my monitor into it nothing comes on the screen at all. and yes i plugged into the new gpu. also i have a dimmension 4600i motherboard and phenix bios never updated. and i think that the onboard intel graphics card might have somthing to do with it. i also disabled the intel gpu and tried again and the same thing happened. the only thing in bios about the intel card is to options (1)auto (2) onboard and i tried both and nothing happened again! soo if any one can help me i would be happy
I have had this problem through 2 motherboards. I have a brand new (ok, year old, but unused) ATI Radeon 8500 LE that I can not get to work to save my life. When I 1st got it and had problems with it I contacted ATI tech support and after following their suggestions with no success I sent it in for repair. They told me it tested just fine, but sent me a known good board as a replacement. Same problems. I figured it may be something about my system, so I put it away until I made an upgrade. I just replaced my motherboard with an MSI KM2M Combo-L (hey it was cheap) and tried the video card with the new m/b to see if it made a difference. No luck. Not a WinXP driver problem because it won't even allow me to view my bios settings for more than a minute before the screen totally corrupts. Just for reference I am using an Athlon XP 1700. Any ideas?
Just poking here, but do you have a modem installed on that mobo? If so, try removing the video card, drivers and all, then remove the modem and any drivers that are installed, and then pull the plug, physically remove both of the cards, replacing ONLY the video card for now. If all boots up ok try loading the drivers for the vid card then. If that goes ok then try the modem. There may be another issue involved, but with the problems modems can cause, I would take a shot and at least eliminate it as a resource conflict of some kind.
Good Luck!

Here are the official power requirements for the brand new ATI Radeon HD 5850 and HD5870 video cards.
ATI Radeon™ HD5850 System Requirements
PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
• 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in • dual mode)
ATI Radeon™ HD5870 System Requirements
• PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
• 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in • dual mode)
NOTE - These are the power supply recommendations for an entire pc system. I can't wait to see techncial reviews with power consumption results. I knew the cards were supposed to be more energy efficient than current generation cards.
so if you have a 600w then it will run but bigger is better, note well you need 2 connectors
