Brightness Issues - Intel HD Graphics 5500

Q: Brightness Issues - Intel HD Graphics 5500

After having issues with my W7-64 bit HP Envy 15 laptop, I decided to reinstall the OS. Everything went as planned until I installed the win64_153619 graphics driver from the Intel website.

Although the driver installed OK, the control panel interface is now different (now called Intel HD Graphics Control Panel)

There's no longer brightness control. The power options in W7 only has 10 steps for brightness of which are either too bright or too dark. My question is, how can I have more control over brightness? Third party software?

A: Brightness Issues - Intel HD Graphics 5500

I don't have this setup, but will on a new Toshiba Laptop with the Intel 5500 graphics that I just ordered. I'm posting to track this thread to see what transpires.

Sorry for hijacking it.

Edit: I fixed it! (I was causing the problem myself but uninstalling the chip in the first place when i should have been disabling it instead)

Ok... I looked for about an hour and decided i would have to make a new thread for my specific problem... so sorry if im making my first post in an odd place

I recently installed a NVIDIA GeForce 5500 FX PCI 256MB DDR video card
followed directions as best i could, and disabled the Intel integrated graphics... but my PC insists on REinstalling the intel integrated graphics controller upon restart... It left me alone for awhile and i could run Counter Strike : Condition Zero moderately well (low frames after playing for over an hour) but after allowing my computer to update itself (while using IE to dowload firefox for a reinstall, IE randomly decided my home page was going to be the microsoft site for the day) and since then no matter what i do the computer insists on trying to reinstall the intel integrated graphics thing...

so my question is, how do I make this stop? how do i keep the computer from giving me the dreaded "found new hardware" bubble when im using a FAR superior (REAL) video card already?

is there something i do in the BIOS (i hope not, i dont like messing around in there) or on the motherboard itself?

i have some basic info about my comp in my signature but im going to use "PolSystemInfo" to find all my PC specs and just copy paste them below, I just hope its enough info to help so... Read more

A:NVIDIA GeForce 5500 FX-vs-Intel Integrated Graphics... please make intel go away!

Hmm that didn't happen to me when I put mines in. Did you install the NVIDIA drivers? Try disabling the onboard in the device manager. That?s what I did. There doesn?t seem to be an option to turn it off in the bios (my bios) maybe there is for you however. It isn?t too complicated. Just simply look for onboard graphics or integrated graphics controller or w/e and select disable, but first try disabling it in the device manager. It should be listed under display adapters -> properties -> disable this device.

You should upgrade to DX9.0c...

Have problem with intel 5500 HD graphics driver on dell 7548. Getting  error code 43 since updating to windows 10. After longing onto windows it return to sign in screen looking to missing driver. No one seems to have an answer.  I tried installing every driver possible from intel and Dell

A:intel HD 5500 graphics

Uninstall all the video drivers (if it's Intel only, there will just be one set;  if it's a hybrid video setup, there will also be an nVidia or AMD driver).
If this is Windows 10, reboot the system and make sure you're online.  Windows should pick up and install the video drivers for your system, at least the Intel one.  If not, the correct driver for Windows 10-64 bit is this one:

Hi all, Bought a new Aspire F5-571 two months ago with Windows 10 preinstalled. Recently, I've started getting the error message in the subject line of this post. Doing some research reveals that it could be a problem with the display drivers. I've checked Acer's website for my model and the only graphics drivers available are Intel's VGA drivers. Intel's web site reveals that the drivers for Intel HD Graphics 5500 are OEM drivers and are shipped by the manufacturer - obviously in this case Acer. Anyone any idea if there are updated drivers anywhere on Acer's website ? Regards, gneil15

I have been searching on the internet about this issue I'm currently battling. I have have found similar issues but not exactly what I am going through.

I am hoping you experts can help me. Here it goes...

I have a Lenovo G50-80 laptop, which is less than a month old. It came with Windows 8.1 and had a free upgrade to Windows 10. It ran fantastically except I still preferred Windows 7 - I did a clean install.

The problem is my graphics card. When I had Windows 10, in the dxdiag page I had the following tabs:System

Basically on the Display tab, the Intel HD Graphics 5500 is displayed and on the Render tab, I had the AMD Radeon HD 8500M.

Now that I downgraded to Windows 7 (installed all updates including SP1), the Render tab is no longer there.

I have checked the device manager and saw both cards listed and active with no errors.

I did the following:Updated Drivers for both Intel and AMD graphics
Uninstalled all graphic drivers and reinstalled Intel first then AMD
Changed the settings on the AMD graphics controller to Maximum Performance on the game I am playing

I do not know what I am missing here.

I am really looking forward to a solution.

Thank you in advance, gentlemen!

Hi all: I have a problem with my laptop (model VN7-571G). After a recent Windows 10 update, now I am not able to connect the laptop to my flat  LG TV via HDMI. I think it has to be related to Intel Graphics 5500 (current driver When I connect the laptop to my flat TV, laptop screen goes black (as it happened before), but TV message says "Without Conection". If I try to use Intel Driver Update Utility, it says I have to go to Acer website to get the drivers. I have already uninstalled all Intel drivers (VGA, chipset, etc.), and installed the ones in Acer website but the problem still exists. Any idea how to solve it?. As far as I know Windows 10 is still in testing phase so Toshiba didn’t start official Windows 10 support. Windows 10 drivers are not offered for download.
The same situation was noticeable few years ago before Win8 was offered on the market.

Hello, am the proud new owner of a T550 type 20CK and ProDock. The ThinkPad itself has the 3K (2880 by 1620) LCD panel. I want to use this machine at my desk with an external 4K (3840x2160) monitor so that windows can move from screen to screen without scaling. But the Screen Resolution section of Windows 8.1 control panel only shows a max resolution for the external screen of 2560x1440. The hardware is supposed to be able to do this. I think I need a better driver. Explanation: Graphics are from the Intel HD Graphics 5500 onboard chip. The spec sheet for my machine, here,  says  "Intel HD Graphics 5500 in processor only, or Intel HD Graphics 5500 in processor and NVIDIA GeForce« 940M, 1GB memory (discrete models are only available in Western Europe); supports external analog monitor via VGA and digital monitor via Mini DisplayPort; supports three independent displays; Max resolution: [email protected] (DP via mDP cable); [email protected] (VGA)" Yet this resolution is not selectable. The Intel HD graphics 5500 driver updated by Lenovo System Update is dated 11/18/2014, pretty old. Intel's site has a driver dated 3/6/2015. But the system will not let me install this driver saying my system needs a custom driver I must obtain from Lenovo. Please help! Bryan

Ever since I downloaded the Windows 10 anniversary update, my display has gone absolutely haywire. Weird dots all over the place, major screen tearing--it renders the pc basically unusable. I've isolated the problem in the graphics card--Intel HD 5500, driver version Disabling the graphics card makes all of the problems go away instantly. However, disabling it also means I can't dim the screen, use HDMI, or my Flex anti-blue-light software; being unable to dim the screen at all also drains the battery. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, checking for driver updates, rolling back the driver to the previous version, all to no avail. I have contact Intel directly; they sent me a different, generic driver which I couldn't actually install because it said "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer." I've been all over the forums and Google and I haven't come across anybody else with this exact problem. I have been dealing with this for weeks now and it's driving me crazy--every time my pc updates I hope this will be the one that fixes it, and then, nothing. I have been nothing but happy with my HP Envy up until now, so this is really frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

I am using the VGA port of a Dell 4-in-1 adapter (DA100) to connect my XPS 13 with touch screen display to a Dell U2412M monitor. The Intel HD Graphics Control Panel does not detect that there is an external monitor attached to the computer, i.e., the Graphics Options menu does not show the "Output To" option, the Graphics Properties' Display menu shows only "Built-in Display" under the Select Display tab, etc. The DA100 was installed remotely by Dell Support (after neither I nor they could find the driver on the Dell support website, as instructed to do by the software driver download guide that comes with the adapter), so I assume that it was installed correctly. Has anyone else experienced this problem and, hopefully, have a solution?

One more thing, when I set up this laptop for the very first time after purchase, I remember the total graphic memory it used to show was something around 2k MB. I don't understand why does it share this much now. And if this graphic memory is shared from RAM, then it's almost eating up 4GB of my RAM!! The system has total 8GB RAM. The latest Dell drivers for Intel 530 graphic card cause minor brightness flicker every 30 s or so (although not at a regular interval). This has been reported on the Intel forum.
I first uninstalled the Intel drivers, after which the flicker no longer occurred. I later found the post mentioned above, which highlighted that the problem only started happening since after driver version "". I reverted to this driver, and indeed, the flicker is gone.
Hopefully this allows you to pinpoint which changes have been made in between this version and "". I would like to benefit from the latest drivers. For example, currently (I do not know whether it is related) when I maximize Windows the animation is very choppy.

A:Latest Intel Graphics drivers cause brightness flicker, older ones do not.

What model computer? You have posted in the laptop forum. Laptops almost never have graphic card updates and those rare updates must come from Dell Support. All laptop drivers must come from Dell not Intel. Laptop drivers are customized by the laptop manufacturer. Reinstall your original driver. If you need to download it, get it from Dell Drivers and Downloads.
Read the intel answer in your post's link. It says--
It is important to mention that we sell our Intel chipsets and processors to third party manufacturers and they design their own computers with their own features, settings, and capabilities. For that reason they design their own drivers, to meet the exact specifications on their computers. Your computer is having problems with our generic Intel graphics drivers; the best you can do is installing the customized driver released by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

So I went to update my graphics driver but Intel's updater said this computer uses a custom driver meaning I'd have to get it from this website. I did but it said that the driver was not validated for this computer, which is impossible because it was custom made for this computer's hardware. So I manually installed it and now it keeps giving me problems like seemingly randomly crashing with "display driver stopped responding" type errors when I play games, often either rendering them unplayable or crashing them, seemingly depending on the game. Some of them have no problem with this I think but after the latest update to Phantasy Star Online 2 for example, it keeps crashing with this error after a couple of minutes or so. Exactly what driver am I even supposed to be using?!

Hi, can someone with a better eye dissect two recent BSOD minidumps for me?  Specifically the 2016 one.  For a while I've been experiencing BSOD problems, which later I realize it gets triggered only after using my machine a certain way, I'm suspecting part of the culprit could be opening a WebMIDI application in chrome, not sure.  Essentially, I know they pretty much never happen if I avoid certain tasks, even over the course of several days of runtime, which is attainable.  But then, I seem to randomly trigger these BSODs the quickest if I combine running a WebMIDI application with a good deal of webmidi and webaudio usage, a running virtual machine doing the same things, and doing things in the background like HD YouTube, just waiting for the crashes. Also, I'm having suspicion that the bluescreen crashes are directly the fault of the Intel drivers I have, because the MiniDumps I have tend to mention Intel HD Graphics a lot, but not entirely sure.I already started an Intel graphics forum topic about it (along with earlier minidumps, dxdiag.etc), where a intel employee responded saying they've updated the driver and I should test with the current version, which I did.  I'm currently on (, and still getting the same issue.  I'm just not sure if I should continue blaming it on that or not, and thus bother replying to the topic?  Or, could this be an entirely different issue altogether?... My laptop specs are:
Intel HD 5500/GT 940m

Whenever I try to set a 1080p custom resolution via graphics properties i get the error, "this resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". After a whole day of googling i have found nothing but Intel shifting the blame to manufacturer for limiting the hardware, I understand this is a driver issue as iGPU do not support custom resolution like all their competitor does, ATI/AMD/NVIDIA.

So i just want to try my luck here and see if there is any other solutions, I purchased this laptop this morning and really like everything except the resolution, its a hard pill to swallow after experiencing dual 24" 1080p displays and really limits my productivity on campus. Any help or replies (even if its to confirm there is no existing solution to make me finally give up) will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

in case you are wondering why i went for the inferior resolution, the laptop i got was too good of a deal to pass up and a similar spec at 1080p will cost $400+ more. right now i am regretting the decision every passing moment

I'm having trouble installing the drivers for a Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller in Windows 7 on a Gateway/Motion Computing M1300 tablet.

Before you say "DriverMax" please note that Windows 7 is the only operating system installed on the tablet. I hope there's another way to get it working.

Here's the thing that strikes me as odd: I have gotten it to work perfectly, but as soon as I restart it goes back to its old ways (default VGA controller driver, etc).

Here's what I do to get it working:

1) I run the setup file that came with the driver I downloaded from Intel (version 14.19.50), either natively or in Windows XP compatibility mode,
2) The setup software asks me to restart, and I comply

When the computer boots back up after those steps everything is working just fine, BUT then a Windows prompt appears telling me that I need to restart in order to complete the driver configuration. When I restart hardware once again has trouble.

Here are some screenshots that took while the driver was working correctly:

Why does it say that it will uninstall the drivers when restarted?

And here are some screenshots taken while the driver is NOT working correctly:

My real problem with not having the correct driver installed is not that display functions are lost (though they are), but that the Hibernate and Stand By modes are disabled.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to keep Windows 7... Read more

I have this problem too. Because it defaults back to "standard VGA" when I watch video it is very "liney", in other words, not the full shilling.

Hi all,

I'm trying to run two monitors in Win7 using my Gigabyte z77x-ud3h. If I install NO drivers, I get a mirrored display; if I install either the Gigabyte Intel VGA driver or the native Intel driver, however, I get dual monitor performance... but only when the driver is freshly installed and the computer is still on.

If I restart or reboot, Win7 "forgets" the second monitor and only uses the VGA monitor.

If I uninstall the drivers and disconnect the VGA monitor, Windows will use the DVI monitor with no drivers installed.

But if I install the drivers again, Windows -- even if the VGA monitor has never been connected -- will "use" the VGA monitor and the DVI monitor will stay dark.

Is the motherboard defective? Or is this something about Windows 7?

As this is my first post here, I can't post links of the motherboard specs. So, you can just google ASRock P4i45GX PE and check it out.

It says something that the maximum graphics memory is 64 MB, but I'm unsure about it. So, are there any geeks out there who can help? I'll be glad.

A:Compatibility Issues? Upgrading from Intel 82845G Graphics Card

Hello henson93. Welcome to Techspot.

It seems that your motherboard is based on the Intel 845G chipset. I cannot find your mobo's product sheet anywhere but it's likely that you have an AGP 4X slot. The most powerful AGP card that would be comaptible with AGP 4X is the Radeon HD 4670. However, they cost over $100 and definitely cannot provide the performance levels of newer (PCI-E) cards available at a similar cost.

It would be helpful if you could confirm whether you have that AGP 4X slot on your mobo. Also, what is the reason for your upgrading to a discrete GPU. Are you looking to play games?

I have a Levono 330 which device manager says has an Intel HD Graphics 5500 display and the max resolution is 1366 x 768. Not great but adequate.
I installed the Oracle VM 5 (in order to run some old DOS software) and created a virtual XP machine - that was dead easy.

Oracel VM defaulted the XO machine to a small window at 800x600. I changed the screen resolution and it allowed a maximum of 1600x1200 so whooppee, I selected 1600x1200. The screen resolution was visibly better than the 1366x768 that I had under native windows 10. So it would seem that the screen can cope with a higher resolution that 1366x768 - or am I kidding myself!?

So how do I get Windows 10 to let me set a screen resolution of 1600x1200 that I can set in the VM?

I have Dell Inspiron 5000 series 5558 model laptop. Recently i have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.
I have also used driver & download web page on Dell portal to  download & install latest drivers for Windows 10 64-bit OS including BIOS. But the issue is i'm unable to view "Nvidia Geforce 920M display adapter" under desktop-->display settings-->Display-->advanced display settings and it shows "Intel HD Graphic 5500".
I have checked Device Manager --> Display Adapters and i can see both Nvidia GeForce 920M & Intel HD Graphics 5500.
Also under Nvidia Control Panel --> Manage 3D settings -->global settings is set to "High performance Nvidia Process".
Please advice how do i change settings under desktop-->display settings-->Display-->advanced display settings to use "Nvidia GeForce 920M" instead of "Intel HD Graphic 5500".
Nvidia GeForce 920M driver= 359.06
Please advice.

If the intel graphics is integrated into the motherboard, you
can disable it in the BIOS.
If not,remove it.

I got my computer last June and it came with GeForce FX 5500. I am currently trying to play games such as Half Life 2 and the Sims 2 but it keeps crashing randomly throughout the games.

I have tried drivers 66.93 and 56.72 with no effect. I've turned off background processes and updated other drivers.

I'm not very technically minded but am finding this problem very frustrating and would like it solved...can anybody help me?

Should I maybe think of replacing my graphics card? If so what ones do people recommend?

A:Please help, am having problems with GeForce FX 5500 graphics card

Hello, did you overclock your video card?

you say you tried to use nVIDIA ForceWare v56.72 and still fail? your video card sucks, try to get nVIDIA GeForce FX5700LE with 256mb ram or ATI Radeon 9550?

P.S. Remember, Doom3 require the mid-end to high-end video class, and sound like you would like to have a budget video. you should have one of this i offered you. Look at for latest prices.

I am planning on getting The GeForce FX 5500 Graphics card to play the Matrix Online. The game requires a DirectX 9.0 capable Card with A programmable Shader, I know the Graphics card is DirectX 9.0 Capable but does it have a Programmable Shader??? And is this graphics card as good or better than a GeForce 3Ti or 4Ti??

A:Verto GeForce FX 5500 Graphics Card Questions

The game requires a DX9 compatible card, but it doesn't require a card with DX9 features (like Pixel Shader 2.0). So the following cards would be able to run the game: GF 3, GF 4 Ti (not MX!), Radeon 8500, Radeon 9000 and above, Geforce FX, 6, 7, and the Radeon X-series.
If you want to get a card at a reasonable price, the FX5500 might be a bad idea performance-wise. It's a better choice than a Geforce 3, but inferior to the GeForce Ti 4200/4400/4600/4800 cards. Although the Ti 4x00 series cards dont't boast DX9 features, their performence is better than that of an FX5500.
An FX 5500/5600 card is too weak to give an enjoyable gaming experience in a DX9-heavy game, anyway.

What's your budget?

Depending on your budget, there could be lots of better alternatives than the ones I've mentioned above.
Also, here's a link to the Matrix online FAQ.

Hi...I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit), 8Gb RAM, with the chip:
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology

Graphics is not dedicated and is handled via this Intel chip.
During Windows Updates, MS ones download perfectly.

However, I also get an additional 'optional' update named: 'Intel Corporation - Display - Intel(R) HD Graphics'

This has never succeeded in downloading.
The MS explanation is always the same: possible interruption from my connection to their server...yet never any interruption when I download MS updates at exactly the same time!

After that, I get the usual 'download Mr Fix It' software which proves itself to be utterly useless in helping me find why the download is not succeeding.

I run Avast anti-virus and Zone Alarm firewall...but I can't figure out if they are somehow preventing the download.

I'd appreciate any help on this....

Many thanks

Is Intel HD Graphics Family better than Intel G41 express chipset?

The name is only Intel HD Graphics Family there isnt a number after it in dxdiag

A:Is Intel HD Graphics Family better than Intel G41 express chipset?

Intel G41 express is the very old, Core 2 equivalent on-motherboard-gpu aka Eaglelake. It only supports up to dx10, it has awful and old drivers, and incomplete opengl support (less apps can run on it). It can idle in recent games like Dota 2 with up to 30fps with everything on low. Key word: idle. Don't even think about playing under more than 15-20fps.

Intel HD Graphics Family is on-cpu-die-gpu aka Sandy Bridge, it's still old now, but does have support for dx11 and opengl, and it has a lot more raw power than x4500(g41), depending on the cpu. It even supports overclocking with sizeable improvements.

Really there is no contest between the two families.

I recently purchased an Acer Veriton (M498G) desktop which has an i5-650 processor, Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and Intel HD Graphics listed as the video card. I also purchased a PNY nVIDIA Quadro FX 380 PCI-E card for improved picture editing and home video viewing and editing. I have already replaced the original 300 wattt power supply to a 430 watt Antec Truepower I had on hand and boosted the RAM to 8 gigs from the original 4.

Question 1) Am I getting any improvement in visual quality or system speed with the Quadro or is it a waste of money and I should just save up to buy a bigger video card? This card was on sale for $115.

If I am getting improvement then I need to ask another question.

Question 2) Instructions for the Quadro installation are as follows...

1--Uninstall the existing VGA driver.
-Remove the existing Display Driver via "Add or Remove Porgrams".
-Shut down your computer.

2--Remove your Existing Graphics Board (or Disable Integrated 3D Graphics Controller).

skipping instructions on how to remove existing graphics board

-Systems with integrated (also know as on-board) 3D graphics may require you to disable the integrated 3D graphics system. Consult the owners or vendor manual that came with your PC on how to properly do this.

Since then My screen is always shakey/twitchy and it really gives me a headach, and a blue icon that says Intel Extream Graphics came up. However whenever i right or left click the icon i get the message then as well. aside from both of those, my screen would occasionally black out and come back up at random intervals. these annoyances are really starting to bug me and if anyone has any aid it would be greatly appreciated.

I just picked up an HP dx2000 desktop computer that has the "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" onboard video card. Im trying to play World of Warcraft on the machine and it is a bit jumpy due to what I assume is the graphics card. The system has 1Gb of RAM so I dont believe it has anything to do with the RAM.

My question is, will my system benifit from a PCI graphics card or is the bus too slow for PCI to show any type of improvement? The only reason I say PCI is because the system does not have an AGP slot.

There are countless threads with people who can't change brightness on Windows 10. Easily solved, switch to the generic Windows graphics driver. However, to me this solution removes the Sleep option in Power menu. Only Hibernate is left, but I don't want to use it. I just bought a small SSD for the OS and I want to save the write cycles.

So as the situation stands, I can either choose to have the Sleep option with Intel Graphics 4000 driver, or have the brightness control with the Windows graphics driver. I chose the former, because I use sleep a few times a day, but don't change brightness very often. But I want both.

I am just checking, is there any option to have both sleep power setting AND working brightness control in Windows 10? Is Microsoft or Intel working on fixing the problem?
- I use two graphics drivers at once - NVidia and Intel 4000. Can't have just NVidia, that removes both brightness and sleep.
- Yes, I have the latest Intel 4000 driver.
- Yes, I have disabled adaptive brightness.
- No, I can't adjust brightness manually, if I try that, the screen is totally dimmed and I have to switch the drivers to fix it.
- I have Lenovo Z500, Windows 10 with the Anniversary package - didn't help.
- I made a clean install of W10 after my old W10 install got stuck in update-remove update loop.

Hi, I've had my X1 Yoga for about two months now, running Windows 10 Enterprise Insider Preview 1607 (build 14915.1000).Prior to joining the Windows 10 Insider Preview program (it took about a week for it to update to the insider preview builds from the official builds), I had severe issues with the brightness control of my OLED screen. I could not turn the brightness up to the higher settings (90-100%), because the screen would become entirely black. Also, somewhere in the range of 75%-95% brightness, the screen would be completely blue, as if no other colors were displayed in the OLED panel. This was of course unusable. Coupled with the automatic display brightness adjustments it gave a really crappy experience, as the brightness could suddenly automatically be turned up really high (into the unusable blue-then-black range), unless the display was set to a really low brightness setting. On several occasions I thought the computer had locked up/died on me after disconnecting it from my OneLink+ dock, only to later realize that I could just lower the brightness to force the display back into actually showing something.  Sometime after getting the first Insider Preview builds, which was also accompanied by some Lenovo updates (unfortunately probably masking what is the real cause of this issue), I noticed I couldn't actually change the display brightness at all anymore. It's stuck! This issue persists, and I have been unable to change the disp... Read more

I recently upgraded my ATI Radeon HD 4850 to a GTX 560 ti. After swapping out the hardware I removed my old ATI drivers ( with some difficulty. CCC didnt want to go for some reason but after updating to the newest CCC i was able to uninstall ), then I went to the Nvidia website and downloaded new drivers for the 560. I was also forced to buy a new power supply as my old one could not support the new card, I went with a corsair TX 750w because it had extremely good reviews on newegg. Since these changes I have been having an issue where the brightness on my monitor dims when I'm playing certain games and I come to dark areas, or go into the game menus. Ive noticed this on Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Dead Space 2, and Mass Effect 2. Right now I have Crysis Warhead loaded, and I've got it sitting in the "Options""System Settings" menu, under "Graphics" and my brightness is pulsing in and out, slowly getting brighter, then fading (possibly to the game music?). With other games when you enter a dark hallway for example, the screen will fade so dark you can barely see, then come back once you progress farther thru the game. I bought this PC recently and have been very pleased with it. Adapting to Windows 8 was quick and effortless for me, and I have very few qualms about it.

However, I shut down last night and when I booted up this morning, my display is different than it was before. In fact, it's quite confusion. Some areas are darker than they should be, and other areas are washed out or too light. This points it to being that somehow my contrast has changed - but how? I can find no contrast controls anywhere. There are no buttons my PC for these settings - as this is an all-in-one PC. The brightness slider changes nothing.

Some things look "normal" while other things are just too saturated, too washed out, or too contrasted.

Is there a way to set it back to default? A way to change my contrast? I'm an artist and this change in screen depth is unsettling for me - as in all calibration tests, I can see the difference between shades of black, but white is simply... white. There are no shades of white on this screen, now.

Edit: It's especially anything yellow. There is very little shading between colors of yellow right now. On my color slider, everywhere there's a hint of yellow is just... yellow, with no gradual changes into the next color(s).

Edit again: I improved it only a little by turning the gamma down slightly and playing with color sliders, but it's still far from what it should be. I have no idea what changed my settings or how to get it back exactly as it was.

I've completed a new custom build, but have had problems with BSOD from the beginning with any installation of Intel Graphics drivers or the installation of any graphics card.

When I first completed the build, the XFX-7950 Black was installed. I booted to BIOS without issue, but when I inserted the Windows 7 (64 bit) it would boot through the windows logo screen but immediately BSOD right after going to the first install screen.

I removed the graphics card, and was able to complete the full Windows install without issue. I updated Windows and the drivers on the system but as soon as I installed the Intel 3000 Graphics driver, it would BSOD on every restart. I recovered back prior to the Graphics driver install and installed all other drivers. I updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I have reattempted the XFX 7950 multiple times in different slots, but with the same results. I also attempted my Radeon HD 4550 from my old computer but it gave the same results. It always boots through the Windows logo screen, but BSOD within a few seconds of reaching the password screen.

I broke down and installed Driver Whiz, which did detect multiple outdated drivers that I had not caught, but none of these fix the issues.

I've attached the requested zip. I don't think all BSOD's are showing up, as I've had to use recovery points after installed drivers didn't work. The last .dmp on 19 JUL was a Intel Graphics driver install attempt that I pulled off in safe mod... Read more

A:BSOD with install of Intel Graphics driver or install of graphics card

I recommend for future reference never to use driver discovery software like Driver Whiz. They have a propensity to install erroneous, buggy and/or outdated drivers. Finding drivers for your hardware should always be done manually.

Anyways, while I don't see any specific pattern for the crashes, I do see at least some of them are during disk I/O. That's when I immediately got suspicious of your Crucial SSD. If you have not already, the very first thing you should do when installing an SSD into a PC is to update your SSD's firmware, followed by your BIOS and any chipset/disk controller drivers. This is necessary as initial SSD firmware often has a habit of causing issues, which frequently is resolved when updating it.

If that all doesn't work, then it's time for some other hardware tests. Start with 7 passes of Memtest86+, followed by Torture Test on Blend for 9+ hours with Prime95. If those don't turn up anything, then replace either your motherboard (most likely culprit) or your SSD drive.

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum
I just bought an old ThinkPad T410 with the i5 520M and upgraded it to windows 10.
But right now I can't install the Intel HD Graphics Driver to it. I've looked around a bit and now I'm quite worried that it's not supported at all for the 1st generation or i5 to have a windows 10 driver...
Any help is much appreciated

A:Need help with Intel HD Graphics

Hello Davenport Welcome to the Windows Ten Forums. I believe that if that would be supported by Windows 10 they would have a driver on the site of the manufacturer. I am not that familier with that model of laptop so I am passing this on to the next available person. Stick around and I'm sure someone will help you.

Hi didleyde.Your link leads to the IBM site, not even close. Go here, click the + next to "downloads" near the bottom of the page. All the original drivers are there. If you have reformated this system, download and install the chipset driver firstIf all you need is just the video driver, indicated in your topic, self explanitory.

A:Intel HD Graphics

No. There really isn't any way in current laptops to upgrade your graphics card. What you buy is what you get unfortunately. Although some companies have been trying to develop peripheral graphic upgrades, they have yet to really deliver a product.

after installing a fresh copy of windows on my device I noticed that my graphics adapter under device manager was only showing the stock Intel HD adapter with no AMD devices in sight.

I have tried relentlessly to solve this issue but with no luck. I have:

Installed all drivers from the Toshiba website
tried using drivers from AMD
Updated chipsets and BIOS
Installed windows 7 through to 10 and back to 8.1 (stock OS that came installed)
adjusted BIOS settings (no option for graphics only very basic settings)
Cleared CMOS
Adjusted power settings

At this point im kicking myself that I didn't keep the original recovery partition. if I had that at least I could find out if the chip is dead or not.
AMD auto driver detection nor GPU-Z picks up anything else but INTEL HD

Welcome Blueyesto to the windows 7 forums.

It might help if you would fill out your system specifications so that anyone can take a look at what model of computer you have? like is it a laptop? or a workstation or whatever.

I recently downloaded 3DMark to see what my new computer could do.
I was however, dissapointed with its performance. It was getting 5-10 FPS on the extreme 3dmark setting. When the test finished, i realized it ran on the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator instead of the GTX 580.

I want to disable the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator completely.
I googled it, but all i got was laptops results ( optimus problems ), and i also searched the bios a little, but i didn't want to screw around with the settings that i didn't know the result of.

I tried disabling first and when that didnt work i uninstalled it from device manager. It still is getting mediocre results on 3DMark, so i'm assuming its still being used?

A:Intel HD Graphics

I noticed you have a i7 2600k and I understand when you couple it with a Z68 mobo. Your virtu feature is supposed to switch the graphics engine to whatever is best, depending on the application you are running, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 on the chip or the video card. There must be a way to temporarily disable the graphics on the chip so that the video card is being used in your test. Just an idea. Check with the mobo's manufacturer's web site to see if they have the info you need.
Good Luck

This is NOT official HP Customer Support and I, as most other persons on this forum, do not work for HP. This is a peer-to-peer user supported forum for HP products. HP maintains no official presence on this forum and it is unlikely that HP will respond in an official capacity. Any reply from a HP employee represents their own opinion and not that of HP's. It appears you have the latest production release of the Intel Graphics Driver for Windows 10. The only other driver listed on Intel's support website is which is a BETA version. This BETA driver doesn't appear to address the issue you are having. HP hasn't made it difficult to update the driver. The Intel driver installer is what is telling you it can't install the driver. This is because there is a customized version of the driver on the computer and replacing it with a generic driver may cause issues or loss of functionality of the hardware. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Please click the White KUDOS "Thumbs Up" to show your appreciation

After updating to W10 insider fast ring build 14393.10 on my Lenovo G580 notebook, the Fn+Up brightness control key combination has stopped working. To check if Fn+Down was working, I pressed them and the brightness went down to "0" and now the screen is always black both while plugged-in and unplugged. Hence, I'm not able to increase the brightness anymore.
FYI, the "Up" arrow button works normally but the combination "Fn+Up" doesn't work while "Fn+Down" does.
Safe Mode doesn't allow adjustment of brightness since it cannot load the display driver.
I tried installing a third-party brightness control software while in Safe Mode but then realized it won't work until I log in to my account, in normal mode, which I cannot do since the brightness is at zero.
Please help me asap!
PS:- I have managed to increase the brightness for now but still the combination isn't working. Fn+Left arrow key combination also not working for volume down while Fn+Right arrow for volume up is working.

A:Fn+Up brightness control not working after updating to W10 build 14393.10. Brightness is at zero.

I do not own a gaming laptop but have recently acquired a game and wish to play it on my Toshiba C50-B. Is there any way of either replacing the card with the newest version, or upgrading the software or anything that can possibly make it any better?

Hello People!I'm trying to fix a major problem but after many hours of sitting in front of my laptop screen, I still can't find a solution. My laptop is a HP EliteBook 8460p (refurbished) Cpu: Intel Core i7-2620M vProRam: Corsair VALUESELECT SO-DIMM DDR3 16gb PC3-10700 Dual Channel KitGPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000 ???OS: Windows 7 Pro x64  Everything was so fine without any problem until I decided to upgrade ram. There were 4gb of DDR3 pre-installed memory. Then I replaced them with 16gb as you can see above. In order to use new memory I should re-install windowsbecause the pre-installed OS couldn't boot into windows environment. I re-installed windows 7 pro x64 and then everything seemed to be right. However everything changed when I had to install graphics drivers. I tried every method and every site (hp, intel, windows) and most of graphic drivers versions. The problem is that most times windows crash and reboot just after welcome screen (sometimes before it) of some seconds later. Without graphics driver, using Standard vga adapter everything goes fine but the screen quality is too low and I can't use applications that use graphic hardware accelaration. I don't remember if specs of my refurbished EliteBook included extra discrete graphics card like other EliteBook products. Besides device manager doesn't detect something like this. Here is the Service Manual: Manual You have either Intel HD 3000 or Radeon HD 6470M, but I think the real problem is that you may have installed incompatible memory. The dead giveaway was that when you rebooted after installing the new memory the OS would not load. Compatible memory should "just work", not require a reload of the OS.  This is the correct memory: 8-GB (PC3-10600, 1333-MHz, DDR3) 634091-001 Is this what you bought?

You Can Roll Back the driver to the old driver, if the new driver was installed. Go to the Device Manager, Click the Properties for the Intel HD Graphics then Click the Driver Tab.

Another possibility is to use the System Restore function and restore the PC to an available restore date that is BEFORE you did (or attempted) the driver upgrade.

*UPDATE: I used AMD removal tool to remove any trace of AMD previously installed stuff, and now I managed to reinstall AMD drivers. So far so good*

I installed the AMD graphics (It's a laptop), and then the laptop stopped working (Windows stuck at the welcome screen)
So I had to go to BIOS and disable Switchable Graphics and select "UMA Only" < now it works.

I wanted to know if I can do something to choose Switchable Graphics again, because maybe Windows tries to use the non-working AMD Graphics on startup. And I want to do that to maybe try and re-install the AMD drivers.

But I can't do it if it won't let me choose Switchable Graphics first.

Anything to do?

Everytime after i've travel for a few days and when i try to dock the laptop on a port replicator. There is no output, like it did not detect it at all. Then i try connecting it directly using the VGA cable to the laptop, there is still no response.
So i try to restart it on the login screen and the same occur.
But when i login to the windows and restart it, it become normal again.
For the next few days, it will be as per normal.
But if i were to travel(not docking it) for a new days, the same thing occurs again.
It seems like there is something "reset" during these days.

Windows 10 just installed on my laptop.. and it refuses to allow me to open an overlay editor. It complains that it has a problem with my intel HD Graphics 4600 card.
I downloaded the latest new drivers for this card - ones that were made available because of the release of Windows 10 and this installation made no difference. I even uninstalled the existing drivers and than rebooted. No luck.
