SoundMAX - SoundMAX audio device not detected

Q: SoundMAX - SoundMAX audio device not detected

It seems that my Windows 7 installation is getting worse by the day on my desktop (see specs linked to my account). It is just issue after issue it seems. Now my audio is not working on Windows 7, but on my Linux installation it is which leads me to think that a driver issue has arisen. Additionally, when I click on my SoundMAX icon, it just gives me an error saying No SoundMAX audio device detected. I do not have a dedicated sound card as my motherboard's integrated one does fine (until now, but still I think it is a software issue, not a hardware issue as it is working great with Ubuntu 10.04)

My Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installation is not a clean install. I used the upgrade option as I got Windows 7 Upgrade Option for free right before it came out when I bought my PC with the equivalent Vista. I've heard since that it was a mistake to do so and that a clean install is always better (is this true? ).

Also, another question. Would updating my BIOS (which is extremely easy with the P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard) help anything at all? I apologize if any of this post seems dumb. I'm kinda new to the extreme hardware. Sometime this month will be the 1 year mark for me upgrading from entry level (*cough* eMachines w3400 ) to enthusiast hardware.

Download the driver from here and install it. When it tells you to reboot, do so. Your audio should work fine after that.

Hi Guys,

I recently installed the SupremeFX X-Fi Audio Card that came with my ASUS Maximus II Formula. It worked previously on my 2.1 desktop speaker for a while but just few days ago I got issue with soundMax. I tried unistalled and reinstalled the software from DVD that came with it but problem with the "HD audio device soundmax -a driver problem" persist. I am stuck! Thank you in advance.

A:HD audio device soundmax -a driver problem

id102, welcome to the forums.

I wouldn't use the disk that came with the motherboard, doubt it even has Windows 7 drivers on it, Instead use the one from Asus for it,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - ASUS Maximus II Formula

And if you want the X-Fi software for it as well they have an update version, look under Utilities to find it.

After ComboFix scan, my volume control caused bsod. Upon restart of the computer a "Found new hardware wizard" pops up and there is a "Found new hardware: Multimedia Audio Controller " icon on my taskbar. And Microsoft Error reported device driver issue, on its website it said "You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused Windows to stop unexpectedly." Now my volume control is gone. When I went to Sounds and Devices it says "No Audio Device". My soundmax is also not in my add/remove programs list.

As I am pretty sure it is not a hardware problem, I have decided to post the problem to the Vista Site .... and hope!

Sound has been working find but "all of a sudden" I have the red crossed SoundMax icon in the lower right hand toolbar indidcating the message as per the header of this post.

I have also done all the usual "pull the cables in and push the cables back" routine, checked the speakers ad neuseum and all to no avail. Nothing is muted and everything appears OK. The Device Manager only shows unders Sounds:

High Definition Audio Device
USB Audio Device

No SoundMax, nothing else!

A Google search shows that this is not an uncommon problem and reinstalling Windows appears the only answer.

Hope someone has a better ides!

A:Massage" No SoundMax Audio Device"

What OS are you running 32bit or 64bit Vista or XP or other?
Is sound actually working.
I ask this as you say device manager showing high definition audio device. Which should be OK.

Could try going to device manager to see if High Definition Audio driver is working or not, if not see if it will update driver. will update driver.
Or could check windows update see if it listing a driver for it in optional updates. Or failing that going to soundmax site and look for drivers for your audio card

I have an IBM T42 laptop that has an ibm thinkpad motherboard with intel chipset with a soundmax integrated audio card running Windows XP.

The problem is that the computer doesn't recognize that there is a soundcard. There is no recognition of it in device manager or in sounds and audio devices.

This makes me think that the driver is not installed, so I downloaded the newest driver from IBM for this system and went to install. It goes through the installation until the very end and then says "Driver not found! Reboot system...". I can't remember the last word or two, but it's nothing helpful. Of course when you reboot the device isn't found and if you try to install the driver again it will say the same thing.

So I thought to add the hardware from the add hardware wizard, except that when I go through to manually add a device it doesn't give me the choise of Soundmax. If I browse through to the .inf file and choose it, the wizard asks to confirm the device, which there are no devices listed and you can't proceed any further in the wizard without choosing a device.

If anyone has any ideas or has had this problem and found a solution please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have an integrated SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio sound card, and out of nowhere in Windows XP Pro, I began to experience scratchy audio distortion.

I recently installed a Hauppauge PVR-150 TV Tuner card, and I believe that maybe there is some sort of conflict.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this with a SoundMAX card or a conflict with a Hauppauge. I am guessing it is a conflict but I am not 100%.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recently repaired an installation of Windows XP home.
Now I get a dialogue box when booting up that says:

Microsoft sent a link to a hotfix that did not solve the problem

I then opened Windows update and installed all the available updates.

Usually helpful to include a lot more detail, such as:

When does it appear?

What was done just previous to it appearing?

Do you have sound at all?

Model of the HP laptop in question?
Quick look online gave me this:

1. Install MS USS driver and reboot.

2. Install the soundmax audio driver and reboot.

here's my problem:
more specifically, I can't hear system sounds, browser sounds, and any sound coming from shockwave, flash, or Java. I can hear my games perfectly fine, same with all of my music and my movies

I go to Sounds and Audio Devices in the control panel, and I find that apparently Windows won't reconize my intergrated sound, even though it worked fine before.
but, move over to the hardware tab, there it is

I go to dxdiag to test my sound, and directsound reconizes it perfectly, and sound plays
but, there still isn't any system sounds or any sounds coming from Firefox or IE

anyone can tell me what's wrong?

EDIT: After a restart, not even my movies, games and music have sound anymore

Double EDIT: the sound was working fine until I installed Unreal Tournament 2004, anyone know of any sound bugs in it?

EDIT again: I've tied: updating the driver, downloading a driver from Dell, downloading a driver from Soundmax, deleting the driver and letting Windows find it after a restart(which it did, but still doesn't give me sound) , and looking for maware.l

Im about to break this computer with all the problems I've had with it.
My motherboard - ASUS M2N-MX (nothing else, no SE, no plus, just strait up). In the bios, HD Audio is selected VS AC'97. My problem is this. The windows update drivers dont work. It says its all fine, but, the sound icon says sound is being played, but my speakers don't make sound. Now, when I go to download other drivers, the following always happens (one of them)
No sound at all
Sound until reboot but then non when I re-log in
Sound works then cuts out for good
Sound works for a while then cuts out but comes back about 10-15 minutes later and lasts for a while. (Reboots usually solve this)
Loud crackling pops static and one time just total white noise (demonic possession?)
I don't know what to do here. I've tried every driver from the ASUS website and half them from these and other forums. I installed direct X 9, my chipset drivers (nForce 430 I think?) The other thing is Im using Windows 7 Ultimate 64x edition. Anyone have ANY clue what the problem is? I put Windows 8 Developer's Preview on this computer a few weeks ago and have not had any issues 'til yesterday.

I had no audio. I checked the drivers, checked the cables, speakers, powersupply (for the subwoofer/speakers) and couldn't find anything wrong. Except, no audio (but I didn't realize it until today).

A few minutes ago, I was looking in to this again and remembered, I set up an account for testing on this machine yesterday and logged in to it. Once logged in, The SoundMax app began an autorun for the new user and I canceled it (it wasn't pertinent to the test). I ran my tests, logged out, logged back in to my usual account and deleted that test account. I didn't make the connection right away because I generally don't listen to anything on the PC but, as I tried to watch a video this afternoon, I realized I had no audio.

So, upon that epiphany, I created yet another account, waited for the SoundMax app to run and this time, I followed all the prompts. Lo and behold, now I have audio. Let me remind you, I did check all of the audio drivers and they were fine.

So, is this proper behavior for Windows? Should it allow the actions (or non-action in this case) in a non-administrator account to impact other accounts' functionality? Microsoft says no.

As background, I'll first include relevant system specs:

Asus K8V Mobo (VT8237 South Bridge)
AD1980 Integrated Sound
Windows XP Pro

If you need any more info, feel free to ask.
Now, the issue at hand is that I can't get the integrated sound to work, which I suspect might be easy to do if I had the mobo CD in my possession (I left it in my dorm room, which I won't have access to until late January).

There are no errors in Device Manager with regards to the Audio Codecs and such, so the first thing I tried was visiting Asus' site and downloading the audio files they offered ( When I run this, I end up with an error stating "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again."

After reading around, I concluded that this might mean I need to install audio drivers provided by VIA for my chipset. I visited VIA's site (viaarena) and downloaded the Vinyl Audio file thing corresponding to my south bridge, and when run, I get an error "VIA AC97 Audio is not enabled on this system! Please enable it first on the BIOS then run this setup again"

Well, I've checked my BIOS multiple times, and I can assure you that integrated sound is set to "Enabled."

On top of all this, if I use a Turtle Beach card, the sound works fine. When the Turtle Beach is disabled, Windows claims there are no devices to play sound. So, the speakers are not the problem and work fine, and also, I have the speakers plugged int... Read more

Probably one of those things that because the only place to get SoundMax/ADI drivers is from the motherboard manufacturers, as ADI doesn't release drivers for general sue. That and it is up to each manufacturer to release any updated driver they get from ADI. Then there is the problem of which of their motherboards they post the update to.

Asus is famous for this sort of thing (there are a few threads here about this sort of thing with different motherboards that come with the SupremeFX sound), and not just for audio drivers. They have a very bad habit of only posting the updated driver(s) to currently available motherboards, and even then not always.

Probably about the easiest way (not really) is to check what is available for your specific motherboard, then to look for newer boards that use the same audio chipset and see if any of them have received an update.

The big difference between Realtek/Creative and ADI, is that the others have a semi-unified driver that they put out, just depends on which card/chipset you have as to which to use. Even C-Media puts out a unified driver for most of their current lineup of audio chips, the only difference with their reference driver over what is available from the card/motherboard manufacturer is it is missing the manuf... Hi all,
I posted a question yesterday about audio problems, but I will try to be more specific about the problem this time.
I recently got a computer that my mom brought home from work. It's an IBM NetVista that originally had WinMe. At her work they installed XP but couldn't get correct sound drivers at the time, so re-formatted with Win98SE. When the hard drive was re-formatted, the drivers were lost, so I downloaded the ADI SoundMAX audio driver from My problem is that when installing the driver, it says can't find the "" file and says to enter the source disk - but I don't have the Win98SE CD. They couldn't find it at my mom's work. So I just click cancel when it asks for this.

When I check under Device Manager it says the SoundMAX integrated digital audio is working properly, and the drivers are enabled under Multimedia properties. But I have no volume control icon in the system tray, and there's no sound when Windows starts up/shuts down. I also can't play .mp3's - realplayer says "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it".

I'm guessing the problem is with the "" file? Is there any way to get this file? I can't find it on my system, and like I said, I don't have the original CD. Is there anything else I can do to get my sound working properly? I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

ok ...first off i am very inexperienced to computers so if u need to dumb something down for me please do so.

i use WMM (windows movie maker) to create videos.
i use a ATI tv wonder pro capture card to record from my 360
i also use to broadcast my live video game sessions

so the story goes...i noticed there isnt any sound for when i broadcast live on, so i looked at the settings and noticed it uses my soundMAX integrated audio. so i tried fixing it through many different ways, trying to find new drivers, using windows troubleshooter to try to repair it, looked thru different forums, etc...

i noticed after doing all of these things that my WMM's audio was slighty laggy, basically 1.5 times slower than the video and it wasnt like that before ...

if ANYONE has any help or ideas to help me solve this problem it would be greatly appreciated

(sorry about long post)

The onboard audio has a 5.1 speaker support, i even tried head phones in indivisual audio jak including the front panel jack but no sound.

Also i can see 2 High Defination Audio Controllers" in my device manager, one is marked with yellow, that means there's some problem. I checked its properties & it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Location :- PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0

How come i have two audio controllers? where as mobo comes with single onboard audio chip?

Does anyone know what torture it is to play farcry, crysis, hl without sound?

Please advice / guide me,

Thanks & Regards,

I feel rather dumb, but I can't figure out how to record some audio input that is longer than 60 seconds. I have an Intel D865GBF motherboard (with a Pentium P4 2.7 GHz). This board has a AC'97 codec built in to the chipset and comes with Analog Devices' SoundMAX 4XL software. The OS is Windows 2000 with SP 4. I can use the Sound Recorder application in Multimedia Accessories in Win2K to record a 60 second clip, and that works OK. But I want to record longer clips than that. I have some audio tapes I would like to digitize and share with my family. But I can not figure out how to tell the codec to start recording and where to put the resulting (.wav?) file. Is there some other component of Win2K, or some way in the SoundMAX control panel, to do this? Or maybe I need another another application altogether that I don't know about.

Thanks for any help/enlightenment you can give.

Hi, welcome to TSG.

Get Audacity, a freeware audio recorder/editor. Hookup a tape player to Line-in on your sound card and setup Audacity to record from Line-in.

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 which the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio system is built into the Motherboard. This computer was given to be and one day, I lost my sound altogether. I have finally got back my computer sounds, but can hardly hear anything I try to play. I want to record some of my own music, but when I try to set-up the music program to record, my computer immediately goes black screen or blue screen. The black screen, the computer will restart, the blue screen I can't even shut the computer off. I have to unplug the whole system, wait a few mins, plug it back in, then it will restart. When I first recieved the computer, the sound worked okay. After I reinstalled the files for the SoundMAX, I can't seem to get it to work properly. I have the Audacity program, as well as one I just installed. Even the one I just installed does the same thing. So I'm thinking it is a computer problem, not a software problem. Does anyone possibly know what the problem is, so I can fix it? I have done a system scan, and everything seemed okay, but towards the end DMA popped up. Are there configuration settings to set-up SoundMAX? If so, Ican't find them. Or would I have to write a specific .ini, .bat file to do it? Thanks for any help you can give me.Veronica Lea

Hi there, hope you guys can help me

I recently reinstalled WinXP Pro for a colleague, and I've got everything working again except for the sound.

She's using an integrated SoundMAX Digital Audio device (specifically AD1980). I have installed the lastest drivers from the ASUS site, and can't get any sound.

The device has definitely installed properly - it shows up in sound properties, device manager etc, and Media Player will play a track, but it falls on deaf ears (or more fittingly, mute speakers )

From what I can ascertain, the driver is trying to use a digital output (i.e. SPDIF), but that motherboard only has the normal green speaker jack.

In Vista, this is just a case of going to audio properties and disabling digital output and selecting the standard jack for output, however I couldn't find how to do this in XP, if it's even possible.

I'm fairly sure that's the problem, but my diagnoses have been wrong before - I'd be grateful for your help either way.

New build, Feb 2007
Clean install

ASUS M2N - E motherboard

nVidia 570 Ultra chipset with integrated SoundMAX ADI1988

I can't find a download for the audio chip at nVidia.

Soundmax's website referred me to ASUS' website for drivers

I don't know if I have ever been able to hear streaming audio on the computer; I don't use it daily. Problem 1st noticed yesterday, 07 April 2007.

ASUS' site: "SoundMAX ADI1988 Audio Driver V6.10.01.5100 for Windows 32/64bit Vista.(Vista beta drivers are for testing only)"

In Vista's Device Manager, the only sound item listed is "high definition audio device". "Rollback driver" button is inactive.

My computer case has front audio ports for speakers & a microphone. I would like to continue to use that feature.

If drivers for the integrated SoundMax are not available, can you suggest a PCI audio card to which I can connect my case's front panel cable?

A:Solved: no streaming audio SoundMAX ADI1988

I figured, what can I lose?

So I updated the drivers using the Win XP 32 bit driver on the ASUS M2N - E motherboard CD.

I'm trying to update my sound card but I can't seem to find an update that will work. I've searched with google and found some apparent updates but they didn't seem to work with my system. The program usually installs and then at the end it says "Error! Drivers not found, please reboot and run this install again" -- or something along those lines.

I'm including an HTML report I generated using Everest that has my hardware layout. If anyone can help me get this sound card updated it would be much appreciated!

If there's any more info that I can provide please let me know.

A:trying to update a SoundMAX Digital Audio Driver

Simply put, you do not have a sound card as such.

Your audio is integrated into the motherboard Intel 850 chipset. Update the audio drivers for your chipset and Windows version.

Intel should have them. The link is given in Everest.

I think this is the right place to post. When I reformatted my C:\ drive, my sound card has uninstalled itself. It's on board, and so to get drivers I need to find out the manufacturer of my motherboard. I opened the computer up and couldn't see anything. Using Aida32, I got this info:

Motherboard Properties
Motherboard ID 10/12/1999-i810-W83627HF-6A69MTGCC-00
Motherboard Name Unknown

Front Side Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel GTL+
Bus Width 64-bit
Real Clock 67 MHz
Effective Clock 67 MHz
Bandwidth 533 MB/s

Chipset Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel Hub Interface
Bus Width 8-bit

I'm now stuck. I can't find the drivers for anything like this anywhere. Can someone identify the motherboard, and provide a link to the drivers please?

I was having an issue with AC'97 audio driver which refuses to install (although it says that it's installed after series of system nagging screens for untrusted driver installing) and then Windows installed some driver via Updates which doesn't appear to work correctly. There is a delay in audio and I can't even click on these Microphone items here:
Has anyone had this problem?

EDIT: Okay I've tried to install again AC'97 driver and it succeeded without any warnings. When I restarted the computer I got this but now with no sound:
All is clickable so it doesn't crash anymore. For the no sound problem that I'm currently facing, I've tried to find Sound Manager to see its settings but I found it only in C:\Windows directory and it doesn't open when I double-click on it. So it appears that it is wrongly installed or something prevented installation to do so. I've tried to uninstall it and then install it again, but the problem still remained - the only difference now is that Microphone (Realtek AC'97 Audio) became Ready and Line In became "Currently unavailable".

(I can't remember what the English name of the program is) something like "system restore" or "restore point".

You can tell your computer to go back to a certain date and it erases all the changes you have made since that date (including deleting all software installed).

A:Audio Input Problem-SoundMax Card

To get the proper signal, you will need a pre-amplifier between your record-player's element and the input into the soundcard.
Most older tuner/amps have this. Make sure to connect RecordPlayers to the Phono input jacks.
You can buy a program called "Clean Plus" from Steinberg which includes such a pre-amp on its own, which is (depending on the version) plugged into USB or the joystick/midi-port.

SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio just stopped working, I tried reinstalling it but it always says that there was a problem during installation and it might not work properly.

In Control Panel>Sounds and Audio devices it's all grayed out so I cannot do anything there.
In device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark, I tried disable-enable but it does not help.
I also tried updating the driver, re-enabling windows audio in services, even reinstalled Windows and installing sp3.

Also I tried an USB sound card and it is working well.

Is there anything else I could do, or maybe SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio is just broken and cannot be fixed?

Just thought I would share this. The PC in my sig and specs has SoundMAX integrated 8-channel HD audio. Up until I installed this update, I had some minor issues. Even when running in regular old stereo mode, MP3 playback seemed to fade in and out and generally didn't sound as good as it should. Also, I seemed to be forced to max out all the volume settings to reduce the fading effect, leaving the media player volume control very little control over the volume.

I installed a windows update and to my surprise, my audio sounded really crappy afterward. I found it was just because the graphic equalizer had been disabled. I simply re-enabled it and adjusted it to taste. Now everything seems very clear, with great fidelity and no more fading in and out. Seems like this update really improved my soundmax audio.

I believe this is the update that did the trick:

I have an Asus Motherboard ID: P4S00D-X and it has an onboard sound card called SoundMax and i can seem to install the drivers. Can anybody help?

A:Asus Motherboard P4S800D-X Audio Driver For SoundMAX

You go here:

Use the download shortcut at top left hand side and get the appropriate driver for your OS and then download and install.

I usually recommend:

To install drivers from the internet:

go into Windows Explorer, left click on Desktop, then File, then New and then Folder - name the folder XXXDrivers (where XXX = type, eg, AudioDrivers)

go to the site for your driver, find the RIGHT one for your mobo and OS,(click on the nearest site to you if appropriate) and then download button - when asked where to 'save' the download specify your desktop folder XXXDrivers and wait until the download is complete.

Once it is done, clear your screen and click on the desktop folder and then on the file inside - if it is a zip or rar file it will need to be unzipped or unpacked - make sure if you are asked to specify where to unzip/unpack to tell it to do so to the XXXDrivers folder.

Once you are done that, uninstall the old drivers for the device and then select the device and specify update drivers and direct the search to the folder you made (don't let Windows do it).

I am well aware that there have been other discussions on this board about the challenges with installing certain SoundMax Drivers, particularly on Dell Desktops with integrated audio. Those discussions were closed but I felt compelled to add this piece to that collection. I ran through a horrible time trying to get sound drivers working on a fresh install of XP Pro on a Dell Precision 360. Dell website links to nothing useful nor do any other sites I called up. All drivers end with some sort of error generally at the end of the install. Thankfully I had another older box nearby with a clunky copy of XP that I could grab a WinDriverBackup of the included audio drivers. If you are battling this I've linked them up here, hope they help someone.

I have been using Altec Lansing speakers without fail or problems for quite some time and just today decided to move on to some shiny new Logitech speakers. Good Morning,

Hope you can help! I recently rebuilt a Gateway E2100 desktop and the only thing I haven't been able to restore is the audio. I have downloaded the file 9521983.exe from Gateway and have extracted the files but there is no setup file present in the CABS directory. I have also tried to restore the driveR for Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio from the Gateway drivers CD but receive a severe error - Driver Not Found. I also am not able to see the entry for Soundmax Audio in the hardware section of device manager. Am I missing something? Please advise

Gateway E2100 Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio not found

A:Gateway E2100 Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio not found

Does it list anything in device manager that it is having issues with? anything with a yellow icon with an exclamation mark beside it that would indicate its for sound or audio?

If so just right click it and update drivers, then point to the files you downloaded and it should do the rest.

If nothing is listed, look under sound, video and game controllers in the device manager and see if it has anything for your sound. I have in a few occassions seen windows list stuff under the wrong description with the wrong drivers and says its working fine, when it clearly doesn't.

If it lists it in here, even if it calls it something else, update these drivers and again point them to the location of the files you downloaded.

Gateway has instructions on installing this here...

I am back with another problem.

Recently I have been experiencing total silence from my speakers, I have tried reinstalling the drivers I got from the Asus website several times but with no more success. Currently the drivers do install without any problems, however under the output devices catalog in my Windows 7 system i can not set it as my default device, neither I can disable any devices so I am starting to think that this might be a problem related to Windows itself. When I go into the properties of my speakers and press the "Levels" tab I am shown a completely blank page with a single grey line over it (probably a separator which should be there). I have tried setting up my "Audio Repeater" to play on the device but all it returns is a "Undefined external error" which I believe means it cannot play any sound. I am not able to change any settings for frequency and the Control Panel from SoundMAX does only tell me that all devices are disabled.

Thanks in advance

A:Problems with SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio on ASUS P5Q Deluxe

Set up the PC with ONLY the soundmax and analog PC speakers connected to the speaker jack on the PC. Do not have other USB headsets or whatever connected. Just the basic system. You will probably also have HDMI audio (from the video card). Do not have any HDMI cable attached.

Try this to determine if the sound will work OK. You may have to either reinstall Soundmax or go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Soundmax then LEFT click "uninstall" DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Soundmax sound.

Have had my PC BSOD on me so many times it's not even funny these last few days... Every time i install the Asus SoundMAX driver, or any of the 3 (yes THREE! ) beta drivers for this on-board audio-driver. Uninstalled the driver and Vista seems to pick it up, installing HDA drivers, but haven't tested it in that config yet (i'm tired...) Front headphone is working, that's all i wasn't with the Asus drivers...

Anyone else had problems with this, and how did you sort it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question and "Vista, 'of course', provides it's own drivers for this... DriverDetective keeps telling me the drivers are out of date...

Since no one has replied to your post, I'll suggest something. From your post, I detect that English is not your native language, so hope you can understand what I'm saying. SoundMax 3.0 is apparently quite old (2001). Updating it might solve your problem. There are LOTS of malicious sites offering downloads for SoundMax, but the best I found was at Try updating the SoundMax driver from this site and see if that solves the problem.

I am a computer engineer, I have just upgraded my client's machine to Windows 7 (I did the Upgrade Advisor before and W7 would install correctly and all the hardware would be fine).
Until... I installed W7, everything else works fine, except the Audio driver! I have tried everything, XP compatibility mode.

I know the drivers according to the page for the motherboard aren't for windows 7, but surely there must be some way of doing it:

It's a K8V-MX.

Hi everybody.

I've tried several times solving this issue but nothing seems to work.

I own an Asus M2N32-Sli motherboard with SoundMax 7.1 integrated audio and I'm trying to get a 5.1 sound system work on this. Windows is able to recognize the audio card perfectly (I don't even have to install any drivers). Control Panel allows me to configure it just fine, even the test works great; all 6 speakers work in the test, but they do not work in any application (Windows Media Player, Power DVD, Winamp...), I only hear the front speakers, not the sorround or the SW/center ones.

I guess this is not a driver issue since they work perfectly in the test, but if anyone can give any suggestion, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks and regards!

A:SoundMAX 5.1 does not work

Of first off make sure that you are allowing other devices to allow exclusive control over the speakers...check the screenie...and also post some pics of your sound properties to see what is up

I just bought a new Intel D865PERL motherboard and built my first computer. Not the first I've owned but the first I've built.
Intel D865PERL motherboard
Intel 2.4 800mhz CPU
(2) Crucial 512MB RAM
Klipsh 2.1 speakers

I'm having problems with my speakers. The right speaker has about 1% the volume as the left speaker. I went to Intel's web site and downloaded the latest driver. I have plugged my speakers into my old computer and they work fine so I know its not the speakers. I've checked voulme levels and everything indicates I should be getting equal volume. Device Manager is not indicating anything is wrong.

A:SoundMax & one speaker

I had the same problem with my SoundMax on Windows XP.
To solve this, I opened the SoundMax Control Panel from the start menu or control panel. I adjusted everything in there to suit my preferences. I also went through the Audio Wizard to make sure everything was detected.

In Preferences, I disabled the Audio ESP. For Listening Environment, I chose the speaker setup I use on my system. I also chose an Acoustic Environment and set the Virtual Ear to Adult. Click "test" so see how things sound.

To ensure that the audio works in all speakers, SMax4PNP must be enabled in the Startup in msconfig. (This might be all you need to do, but the other stuff is what I did first.)

Hopefully this will help you get the audio working.

I'm not sure if the two are related or if it was just a coincidence, but I know that it happened when I updated my graphics driver, which is integrated into my Dell DE051. I tried to roll back the graphics driver, update the audio driver, reinstall these drivers and even do a system restore. None of this made any difference and I have no idea what the problem is. I think I have probably the same problem (chip AD1988 or 1888 I always don't remember). I have distort only in mp3 or some games/ movies. But i find some strange thing when I change in AIMP -> Equalizer -> REVERB to max: MP3 files are playing mostly ok! I installed/uninstalled all of available drivers: Microsoft when install Win 7(recognize Standart High Definition Audio?), Soundmax from ASUS site (mobo A5B - XP, VISTA 32), beta drivers to win 7 and always have that ****ty distort. Please check with Aimp re-verb maybe it is the same problem, and the solution isn't in drivers but in right codecs...

I'm afraid maybe my card is broken - but if there are other person maybe not

Of course i have Win 7 RC7100 (32 - bit).

I must also check the network on board card because - I don't have this problem from beginning - i think maybe when my network card where updated by windows update.. Is now solution for Soundmax audio drivers for windows 7?

A:Soundmax drivers.

Post back, and fill out your system specs - motherboard for PC, or laptop's name are the most important , also your sound card's details in this case. The vista drivers work most of the time, and sometimes you can get an XP driver to work.

To resolve the OS mismatch if the drivers wont install normally do the following :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.
