Laptop won't start when usb for wireless controller is connected

Q: Laptop won't start when usb for wireless controller is connected

My laptop won't start when the usb for the xbox wireless controller is plugged in. The laptop starts, the screen turns on but it's black and nothing appears on it. The fans run and everything but screen just stays black and windows never loads. If i remove the wireless receiver and restart the computer it stars normally and then if i plug the receiver it works just fine.

Any ideas why this is happening? This is a new laptop and the same receiver used to work perfectly on my old laptop. Also i tried plugging it into different usb sockets but same result.

A: Laptop won't start when usb for wireless controller is connected

From your description it sounds like the USB device is not recognized by the BIOS or it is conflicting with another device at the BIOS level.

Here is the first thing to try: go into your BIOS settings and navigate to the BOOT tab and note the Boot Order. I'm wondering if your current setting is to boot from a USB hard drive first, or before the Hard Disk Drive. If it is, switch it to boot from the HDD first and see if that makes any difference.

Hi there:
I have a weird problem here.
I have two laptops. Laptop A is my personal one using at home. Laptop B is my company laptop...The problem is about my laptop B
When I use my laptop B at work, everything works perfectly... When I get
home, this laptop could connect to Skype but just can not browse website...
I used ping and found that it can only ping IP address instead of websites...
I first thought that maybe the DNS server was screwed . Then I used my
laptop A to test, Laptop A and Laptop B have the identical settings, both
use Automatic DHCP server, settings on the TCP/IP are identical...
Laptop A works fine, can ping website and browse websits with a chime....
I then followed the Instructions and posted the following info and hope someone
here could give me some hints...BTW, I have the genuine windows xp pro cd.

thanks

Hui

Having problems with a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. OS is Win 7 Home Premium.

This laptop suddenly stopped connecting to anything 7 days ago. Since then I've confirmed that the wireless adapter is working (can see access points).

If I plug in a working ethernet cable there's no light at all. Device Manager that's set to show 'hidden devices' shows the Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Controller as 'not connected, Error Code 45.'

Also, when a known working ethernet cable is plugged in no light comes on at the jack.

When the internal wifi adapter, or a USB external wifi adapter, is on I can see various nearby access points and it will make an initial connection to that router BUT will not complete the negotiation and give internet access. I'm guessing it does not get an IP address?

I have updated drivers for the device but the problem remains.

How can I fix this? Is the device accessible without totally disassembling the entire laptop? I have a Dell service manual for the model but I can't find a diagram or instructions for this particular component. Point me to some diagrams that show where it is and how to access it?

Or, is it possible to just leave it alone and get a USB ??? that takes it's place and allows Wi-Fi to fully connect to the internet? If so please advise what type of device I should search for.

Appreciate any help.

Had the worst experience of a lifetime. Was able to access the internet everywhere, even McDonalds. Get Warner Cable internet at home, says connected, but getting the 'this page cannot be displayed,' page. Tried troubleshooting, resetting TCP/IP, going into the internet tools when I could access it at other locations to set the security; downloaded new search engine, mozilla; called cable and sat on phone for 2 hours resetting our modem, walking through the process, with a technician and ended up scheduling for one to come back out to the house; to say the least every tip, I tried it. Cable even came out and tried and could not solve the issue. The desktop and other laptop in our house worked fine. Then I came here and found a post from 4 fricken years ago that worked instantly. I found it on my cell phone, took my computer over a friends who has netgear that I piggy backed off of and set a restore point and downloaded the software. I couldn't wait to get home to test it and WALLAH, it worked immediately, I love you tw0rld. So I posted the remedy again, for anyone who can't access the internet, try this, its an awesome tool!!!!! Researchers have discovered ways to hack laptops through 802.11 and Bluetooth even if they're not connected to an Access Point or another device.Using data fuzzing techniques a couple of security researchers have been hammering away at various wireless card drivers to see what would happen and try to cause them to run arbitrary code (execute code of their choosing).Read the article at NIST.org, please return here to comment.

My roommate and I are struggling with a bizarre connection issue. We have two Windows laptops trying to connect to the same wifi network. The wireless on the first only works when the second is connected. That is, if the second is connected, everything is fine, but as soon as the second disconnects, the first does as well. If the second is disconnected, the first simply cannot use the network. It is possible to reconnect for a few seconds, but it always drops. We're not aware of any other connection between the laptops. Also, a few weeks ago this issue did not exist.

We're happy to provide any other information that might be helpful. Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Hi There

I've recently taken on this ageing hp laptop with windows Xp installed. After resetting to factory settings I moved on to getting it on the internet but with no luck. The Connection to the router is there and keeps telling me I have an excellent connection but every time I open up the internet browser it tells me the page cannot be read.

I've tried manually entering all the details in the ip boxes but I'm still getting nowhere.

Can anyone help at all?

Hopefully

Greg

A:HP laptop connected wireless but no internet

Do you have service pack 3 installed? The latest correct wireless driver?

Can you successfully connect by ethernet?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello everyone!

Starting yesterday morning, my laptop will connect to my wireless for about 3-5 minutes, then will disconnect me. While disconnected, I double-click my "Connect to a network" icon and see that my network is available. I attempt to connect, but it states simply that it could not connect to the network (with no other reason stated such as not in range, not available, etc.) Sometimes I get really lucky and can stay connected up to an hour. However, whenever I am connected for any amount of time, while I surf the web or am on World of Warcraft, it it impossible to do anything because it takes SO LONG to load anything!
My other CPU (desktop) is connected via Ethernet and I experience no problems what-so-ever, which rules out any modem issues.

Here is some background information about my equipment:
Modem: Arris (phone company issued -- connects us to our landline and internet access)
Router: Cisco Wireless N (product number WRT160N)
Connection: Trying to connect wirelessly
Security: WPA2-Personal
CPU: Dell Inspiron 1545 (a year and a half old)

I have a wireless laptop that successfully connects to the network and can share files/printers with the desktop pc's on the network. It will not, however, let the user get on the internet. The desktops are all fine.

At this time, in order to try to get it functioning, I have encryption off.

The wireless router is Linksys WRT54G v3 router. It is connected to a Netopia router that was provided by the ISP.

This laptop is new to the mix, while the Linksys, the Netopia, and the 3 desktop machines have been in place for over a year. When the user first brought it in, it connected to the Internet w/o effort on anyone's part, but wasn't part of the network despite having the same workgroup name. That's when we ran the Linksys setup CD which said it configured the router for us, including the wireless part. That's where we are now - the wireless laptop sees the network, but can't get on the internet.

Can you tell me my next step? Linksys' site mentioned RTS threshold being too high?

I got a new laptop and created a wireless connection. I am connecting just fine. But now my son cannot connect to it anymore. He actually set it up on his computer and created the security. But when I created my connection it asked for the number on the bottom of the router. It didn't ask for the security question or anything. Need less to say, I did something wrong when connecting right? Does he need to create a new connection from scratch. I have xp professional and he has vista.
thank you!!!!

A:New Laptop Connected to Wireless but old one now cannot connect

First off, let's see this from the working computer connected to the router.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hello everyone!

My husband's HP Pavilion dv6000 has not been able to completely connect to the internet for months.
We have tried it wireless and also directly through cable.
We have tried it at different locations as well. We have restarted the routers we have used.
He did use it in Kuwait once and after that it did not work anymore.
We have had several people looking at it, but no one could really help us.
Now at home we have been trying to connect it wireless and the Network and Sharing Center says the following:

Access: Local only
Connection: Wireless Network Connection (linksys)
Signal Strength: Very good

Good signal, but no internet connection! What is wrong?

He did accidentally delete the HP recovery (god knows why), but I don't know if it has anything to do with that.
We both don't know too much about computers, so this is my last resort, before we will just try it by deleting and reinstalling everything.

Hello,
I feel as if I have 2 separate wireless problems.

1)
Since about 2-3 days ago, my laptop wouldn't stay connected to wireless once I put the laptop on standby. I have to connect to it each time I open my laptop. This has never happened before so I feel like something went wrong.

2)
My wireless won't connect to any other connections other than my home. I went on a ski trip recently, and while my wireless worked on my iphone and ipad, my laptop wasn't able to connect to it. I feel like this laptop has a lot of weird configuration problems. It also won't connect to my home network unless SSID is disabled. So this brings up the question, will my laptop never be able to connect to any network that has SSID enabled? This is really weird and frustrating because my laptop used to be able to connect to my home router fine while its SSID was enabled. I don't get what happened to it. This is troublesome because that means that I will never be able to use wireless anywhere else other than my home.

Can someone help me if there is anything wrong with my settings regarding wireless? Does anything seem abnormal?

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting my laptop to stay connected to my wireless internet. This problem only occurs with my laptop (other laptops in the house are able to connect no problem) and with this particular wireless box (my laptop has no problems connecting and staying connected to other wireless networks, wi-fi, etc.).

I am able to connect to the wireless but it lasts only for a few minutes before connection is lost, so I basically have to connect to the internet through a ether cable (?) plugged into the wireless box.

I can't work out where the problem could be as the wireless works for other computers, and my computer works with other wireless networks!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if it matters but I am using a Toshiba satellite running on Windows 7. Thanks!

What I need to know is if I were to purchase a wireles router connect it to the desktop by lan cable and the laptop via wireless PC card would I be able to access from either computer at separate times? Also if I want to use both computers and share my connection so that both computers can be online at the same time would I need to use, say the desktop as sort of a server? I have no networking experience as you mght have guessed.

By the way I love my wireless access! I have a 512/512 (SYNCHRONOUS) service and I actually get 504/509 all the time!

If your ISP connection is Ethernet, you should be able to connect it to a broadband router and share the connection. Without knowing how the wireless ISP service is configured, it's pretty hard to know for sure, it's not something I've ever used.

Morning,

I am currently having a problem with my friend's eMachines laptop. At some point a few weeks ago, it stopped connecting to web sites via browser, although he had a strong wireless connection at home.

He brought it in to work for me to take a look at. I don't have access to the router as it is the company wifi network. The problem has to be with the laptop anyway as my personal laptop and ipod touch are both connecting to the wireless network and loading web content with no problems. I have tried a few things with no results and I don't mind starting from scratch in case I missed something.

Below I have posted ipconfig /all for his machine connected wirelessly, as well as PING for his machine's IP, the default gateway, the DNS and yahoo, IP and domain. Below that is the same tests run with the computer connected via cable to the network. In addition, I have added the same results from my personal netbook, which is functioning correctly. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi guys. It's been some time since my Dell XPS M1530 laptop has been having Internet issues when connected via Wireless.
It currently sports an Intel 4965 AGN card with Windows 7/8 pre-installed drivers and is connecting wirelessly to a Thomson router.

It connects smoothly, but its reception of packages sucks: I can't connect to FTP, load pages at all, and downloads are around 8 kB/s. (Max should be 250 kB/s). Whereas other laptops are able to load pages normally

All cords are correctly connected, and I don't believe the card is the one malfunctioning since I can connect to other routers flawlessly.

Edit:
I've tried pinging to websites using cmd and get an oscillation between 25% - 100% of packages received.

Hi all...............

I used to think I was good with PCs.......but I'm struggling with this one!!

My ISP is NTL (Virgin). I was connected via the USB and all was well. I recently purchased the router above. This router uses the ethernet cables, which I believe I've put in correctly, but if I leave in the USB it uses that route & if I remove it.........I get nothing!! I'm having no joy. I want to keep a wired connection for the PC and have the wireless for the games machines etc.

Can anyone help??

Sorry..a little more information. when I tried to re-install the modem using the ethernet cable option, an error came up saying..'put the USB cable in and try again!'

I need help with my dell inspiron 1011. It's the Nickelodeon edition.

These are screenshots of the connections. I'm sorry, I'm not good at explaining what exactly I mean.
And I messed up, I didn't click, I just hovered over it. Sorry, got my words mixed up.

It's saying it's connected. And I AM for maybe 20 seconds then it stops. I know it's not the router because my friend/neighbor connected to it without a problem and my laptop worked on it perfectly 2 or so months ago. I've checked to make sure everything is up to date on it, and it is. It even says that the wireless card is working properly. We have a Belkin N 150 Wireless Router. But we used wired connections for everything except our laptop and the neighbors(by the way, she only just connected to it last night because we wanted to see if it was indeed the laptop or router and since hers worked, we think it's the laptop.) If you need any more information please let me know because I'm not sure what else to give you.

My laptop wireless connection through the internal wireless card will not allow me to access the internet. This is a recent problem encountered after using my laptop as the hardwired-internet computer and hooking up to a wireless router for use by a desktop downstairs. While on a recent trip, I tried to go wireless with the laptop and had the problem I described. The wireless connection supposedly is connected but packets are only sent, not received. I'm wireless dumb so be patient, thanks.

I just recently got my laptop back from the IT specialist who so kindly fixed my computer. The only problem I am having is that I can connected to my wireless, but I am unable to surf the net, unless it is a site by Google, such as Gmail, Google Maps, etc. I tried searching, but nothing I pulled up seems to be working for me. Has anyone else had a similar problem and was able to corrected it?

Thank you

ok so lets start this off i have a lenovo IdeaPad Z570...ive had it for 6 months now everything was good until a certain girl touched it and started using it and now its messed up...

anyway my router is a TRENDnet TEW-432BRP.

THE PROBLEM: ok when ever i try to connect to my wireless it will connect to the internet for about 5 minutes(if i dont do anything) then it will disconnect and when you look at the wireless list of possible connections it does not even show my wireless anymore. for me to make my wireless appear again i have to go into wireless profiles and delete the profile and it will show up again. If it is connected and i try to do anything, open a chrome, start wow, anything that requires internet will instantly disconnect.

i like to think i am pretty good with computers but this is one problem ive tried to fix for week and im tired and run out of ideas...

One of our laptops was given to my father to be worked on. He solved the issue, and used his wireless connection to install all the drivers and whatnot from his home.

Upon bringing the laptop home, we discovered that it will connect to the wireless network here, but IE is not able to display the homepage. I put the Chrome installer on it and tried to connect through Chrome, and the same issue occurred.

This laptop had been connected successfully to our wireless network in the past, and we have a 2nd laptop and two phones that are always connected to it when we're home with no issues.

The laptop provides an IP address when I run the ipconfig command through cmd. I also performed the iprelease and iprenew commands, but to no avail. I also used the tracert command, and it provided data for jumps 1-18, but it said the request timed out for jumps 19-30.

Also, when I try to connect the laptop through hard wire, nothing happens. I found that to be interesting.

Any possible solutions? Thanks a ton in advance.

I spent 1h with tech support to no avail. They've just started me on reformatting the hard drive.

We have wireless and I've had no problem connecting my now ancient Windows XP desktop, the iPhone, or the Blackberry. The wireless itself checks out. Encryption key is entered, connected, no future problems with any of these devices, the newest being a year old.

This laptop (Windows 7)....I can't figure it out. It says I'm connected, but at the same time, it says I have no internet access. There's an inability to resolve the IP address.

It contradicts itself. In the wireless manager it says it's connected to my home network, which is properly named. Then it also refers to the wireless connection as an "unidentified connection", and directly below that says "no internet access".

I disabled all the Norton crap that came with the computer to ensure that it wasn't interfering with the connection, no changes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've never had this happen before. This morning I opened Firefox (version 3.6.20), which I typically use to access the web, and got the "unable to connect" message. I checked my router settings and everything seems fine. I did notice in the router settings the IPv6 connectivity is listed as limited. I'm not sure if this has changed or has always been this way. I unplugged my router and cable modem, restarted both computers and tried to access the internet via Firefox again...without success. I opened IE (version 9) and am able to access the internet just fine. Anyone know why one browser works fine but another cannot access the web?

Hey Tech Support Guys,

I'm currently shrouded in the mystery of my Sisters Wireless Laptop Internet and wondered if anyone here had any ideas.

Just lately her Laptop hasn't been able to connect to our home Internet (a belkin54g 802.11g 2.4 GHz Wireless Router) and I've tried everything I can do. We have security on our router and at first I thought all the problem was that I needed to input the 64-bit WEP key to get it working again. Seems that wasn't the case, as when I did the Laptop comes up saying it has 'Connected' with excellent signal however the Internet doesn't load in either Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Okay, I thought, and to much dismay disabled the security on our router and tried again. Same thing happened, so obviously now I've figured it isn't the routers problem. I enabled the security again and currently am lost with what to do, I really want to get this working for her. My Laptop, PC and even both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 connect to the router fine wirelessly.

Her Laptop runs with XP Home Edition and Service Pack 2 and it's an IPC Multimedia Laptop. The Wireless card is an Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG Network Connection and it tries to connect to the Internet using Intel ProSet Wireless software. I've tried connecting using the standard Windows Wireless Connection Utility but am given the same results.

Okay I live in the dorms in college.(well actually they are not the dorms but overflow apartments because the dorms were full, not sure if it matters but thought i should add) I brought my wireless netgear router with me to school to plug my Ps3 into and to download certain things the school blocks on the regular wireless internet.

So I plug my router into the jack in the room and then run wireless to my laptop and wired to my Ps3. I set up the router and it determined the internet connection is DHCP . I set the router to obtain I.P. and DNS addresses dynamically and it won't work. then i set it to use static addresses. ( the address that it picked up dynamically ) It then works for awhile, sometimes a few hours and sometimes less than an hour. To get it to work again all I have to do is set it back to dynamic wait a couple minutes and move it back to static. When I lose connection my playstation says its a DNS error.

my roommate plugs his laptop directly into the jack on the wall because he doesn't have a wireless card and he hasn't said anything about losing his connection. But once i plugged him into the router he loses his connection just like me.

I am sure i am forgetting something important if anymore info is needed I will add. Please help it is really getting annoying changing the setting on the router

Win 7 Ultimate 64byteThe network icon in the tray is red with a red X.Network and Sharing center states I am currently not connected to any networks.I click on 'Connect to a Network', at the top of the pop up it says 'Not Connected', below the 'Connections Are Available' icon it shows my wireless network and connected.I can't connect to a HomeGroup.Internet connectivity is working.

A:Windows 7 states I'm not connected to any networks when in fact I am connected to my wireless network??

I found a solution for (my version of) this problem.  My tray icon never showed the red X, but if I clicked on the icon, the popup showed a bigger icon with a red X, and said "Not connected".  As in your case, Internet worked, but I'm unable to setup a VPN connection because it insists on using a non-existent modem, obviously because I'm "not connected" (which I am).

I monitored the processes running the NlaSvc and Netprofm services (using ProcMon), and noticed that both were denied read/write access to subkeys within the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList hierarchy.

The processes were running as NetworkService and LocalService, respectively, so I tried adding full access for these service accounts to the entire subkey mentioned above.  Notice that permissions are not automatically inherited in the registry, so you may need to explicitly "replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object".

Within seconds, Network and Sharing Center tells me I'm connected to my domain.  Yay!
A reboot was required to fix the tray icon and its popup.

However, I'm still unable to add my VPN connection.

I'm interested in hearing from you guys if your registries miss the same permissions?  If so, Windows 7 must have a bug somewhere with misaligned service permissions/rights.

I thought i was reasonably PC savvy but after reading some of these posts I realise that I have no idea! - please be gentle...

I am living in a boarding hostel which has a wireless network (via Mac Airports) which I have connected to - it says that the signal strength is good (though it does appear to fluctuate)

This wireless connection uses a proxy server to connect to the internet (so that they have some control over what the students can see).

My problem is that I can connect to the network, but not always to the internet (using firefox). the internet seems to cut in and out, and if it is connected, it runs VERY slowly, and most often times out (even when opening something simple like google.com)

What I need to know is:
1. how can I tell if this is a PC issue or network issue?
2. I ran the intel PROset diagnostics tool and it says that the ping test failed (no response: default gateway, DHCP server)
Some things that I've tried:
1. other computers seem to work fine on the network
2. disabled windows firewall
3. talked to the techs but since they're mac users they weren't familiar with vista and therefire not too much help.

Ideas on what to do please??

A:Solved: Vista connected to wireless network but internet not connected

I bought a Cisco Valet M10 wireless router a few days ago and I have been having issues where my laptop says that it is connected to network and it shows maximum strength signal, but underneath the network name it says "No internet access". I have already contacted Cisco several times and also HP, as well as my ISP. I was told by someone from Cisco that Atheros (which is what my laptop has) has some problems with connections to wireless routers and I was told to manually update. I already tried and it says that my driver is already up to date. The internet connection on my desktop is fine so I don't think the issue is with my ISP. I have an ipod which is not having any connection issues, thus making me think the problem might be with my labtop and not the router. I connected the ethernet cable directly to my laptop and the internet works fine that way on my laptop.

I live in a 2 story house and my desktop is upstairs and I noticed that when I took my laptop downstairs, that it would loose internet access almost every time, but a while ago my laptop lost connection and I had it in my room which is right next to where the desktop is so now I don't think the problem has to do with the range. Sometimes it works when I am downstairs, but mostly it does not.

So how can i fix this problem? This is very frustrating and I feel like just returning the router.

P.s. the OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

A:Laptop losses internet access, but says "connected" to wireless router

Try your laptop with your friends router. This proves if the problem is related to your laptop.

When problems occur ("no internet access"), can you still access the router configuration?

I am having the exact same problem this user did:

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/511915-wireless-says-not-connected-when.html

However, resetting my router -- an SMC -- and trying several channels have not solved the problem. In fact, I even tried a different router. Same problem.

It worked flawlessly for nearly two years, and now suddenly it is having this trouble. It says either "Not Connected" or "Automatic" when communicating with my wireless router, and if it says "Not Connected," it is actually connected -- i.e., I can surf in IE or Firefox -- but then eventually loses the connection after about 10 minutes or so.

I'm thinking it must be some weird software quirk.

Anybody have an idea?

Thanks.

Good Afternoon,

I have been working on and searching for solutions to my issue for the better part of a week. I have found nothing that is exactly the same, and any solution that I have come upon has not fixed the issue.

A little history:

A friend of mine asked me to look at their computer as she had an issue with printing, and then did some sort of restore installation, lost wireless, and then her computer BSOD, shut down and would hang at starting windows with a reboot loop.

I used chkdsk and SFC to check things, and ultimately used 'load last working configuration' to get the computer to boot.

So far, so good. At least I got back in.

I have been trying to get the wireless to reconnect since then. A wired connection does work.

From the event logs, I can see that there are two errors that crop up on each boot. The first is that Extensible Authentication Protocol service terminated with the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
The second is that The WLAN AutoConfig service depends on the Extensible Authentication Protoco which failed to start.

The error for WLAN if I try to start it from the services.msc program is 1068, and the error if I try to start EAP is error 2.

I am at wits end. I have found that eapsvc.dll is present (and I actually replaced it from the install disc) in windows/system32, so that SHOULD be OK, I believe svchost.exe is OK, because it is present in windows/system32 and I get no specific errors related to it.

Last evening, I tossed in a Live CD of Ubuntu to see if the wireless worked if I took Windows out of the picture, basically testing the hardware, and the wireless connected without a hitch, so I have to assume that the hardware is fine.

I believe I have this listed in my profile, but the computer is a 4 month old Dell M2800 with an intel 7260 wireless card. I have the latest proset drivers installed from Dell, the wireless card shows up in the Device manager without issues (except the red X that shows it as disconnected) and it also showed up when I ran ipconfig /all, so there is something connecting to it.

Additionally, the intel proset driver troubleshooting shows a hardware fault and states something to the effect that the Wireless Adapter is not bound to the Transport Protocol.

Long story short: Received my new laptop on Monday and I installed Windows 7 and the Drivers on Tuesday. I was able then to connect to the internet wirelessly in another room in my house.

My router is a 6 year old + wired Linksys G router and in order to provide wireless in my home I set-up a TrendNet Access Point N a year and a half ago. Though there are times that I need to periodically reboot we can access the internet anywhere in the house on our laptops.

The laptop at the beginning connected fine recognizing the TrendNet and the signal was strong. I then installed Windows Updates, Microsoft Essentials and the latest Adobe Flash. By the way, the W7 firewall was enabled from the beginning.

After a time I shut it down but when I came back this system will not connect at all.

1. It shows that the system is connected to the Access Point with a strong signal but when I go to connect to the internet wirelessly it constantly says that there is a problem.

2. Diagnosis says it?s my modem, access point, or router. So I reset them at least five times but nothing has changed. Besides, my two PC's have no trouble connecting to the internet. Two Lenovo laptops have no trouble connecting to the internet throughout the house. I even fired up my 8 year old Toshiba Tecra S1 using a TP Link USB adapter at the opposite end of the house and it connects.

A:Please Help! Wireless connected 'connected' but still can't surf the web

Disable encryption on the router (and make sure you are not using MAC Address filtering) and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If unsuccessful ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

Hi,

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times because I myself have read countless posts trying to figure out my problem and solve it, but nothing has seemed to work for me. I have an HP G60-230US laptop and a Linksys router. It says my laptop is connected to linksys but it has a limited connection. It will not connect to the Internet and I can't open the Internet at all. I got an error saying that it was unable to communicate with the Primary DNS Server but I'm pretty clueless as to how to go about fixing this.

Thanks in advance!

I must have few wits left for I am constantly finding that I am at the end of them.

I have several Win98 SE laptops. I installed a Linksys WPC54G Version-1 PCMCIA card in them in order to access the net and get all of the Win98 updates from Microsoft. So now, each of them has all the current MS updates. O.K. so far.

Now in order to be useful, each of these PC's needs a wireless network card of its own and I only have one WPC54G-V1 that I've been sharing between them and it belongs in a different laptop so I go out on the web and find 3 more WPC54G's at reasonable prices.

I get them and find that they are all WPC54G Ver-3's. So I uninstall the WPC54G V-1 software and install the WPC54G V-3 and none of them work in any of the PC's Now (1) because none of the Ver-3 cards worked in any of the PC's, this is unlikely a hardware problem and (2) since the Ver-1 cards worked perfectly it is not likely a PCMCIA problem or other system problem.

The networking part is not an issue. I can't even get to point of worrying about the network yet and besides, the network worked just fine with the Ver-1 cards... I can't get the software to start the card up.

The nature of the problem is that the monitor/configuration utility software that comes with the card is unable to connect to the card and "turn it on". After installation, the card "power" LED is lit but the "link" LED is not. Upon opening the monitor/configuration... Read more

A:Linksys WPC54G wireless PCMCIA laptop card won't start

It seems that the first thing you need to do is establish that the three cards you bought are in fact in working order. Possibly a friend or colleague with a laptop will let you install one temporarily in their laptop assuming they have not ever had a WPC54G installed in that machine. If they can be installed and they work there, it may be version 1 – version 3 issue. I suspect that won’t be the case.

Hi Guys,

I guess this is a pretty straight forward question. I'm trying to connect and charge at the same time a XBOX 360 wireless controller with Windows 7 without buying a Wireless Gaming Receiver. Please only post if you have a resolution for this problem with step by step instructions on how this is done if it even is possible.

Thank You

Vlad

A:Connect / charge wireless XBOX 360 controller Windows 7 w/o Wireless Gaming Receiver?

Well to connect wirelessly you will need to buy a receiver..

But for wired, download this:

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...x360_32Eng.exe

Then insert your Controller into the PC using a Play&Charge USB cable.

TL;DR version: XBox 360 controller, when connected makes sound, but doesn't function, and further connection/disconnection doesn't makes system sound, and also prevents shutting down. How can I solve this. In the mean time, I will uninstall the driver the best I can.

Long winded version
When I tried to install dual boot a Linux, (that I wasn't doing the first time) I accidentally deleted my Windows 7 partition (instead of partition the free space left) and needed to restart the whole installation of my Windows from scratch. (The irony is that I was able to install everything I needed during one weekend the way I wanted id, but since I've wiped my Windows partition last month, I still didn't quite installed everything back the way I wanted it. One plus side is that NVidia Geforce Experience is not telling me that it has run out of drive space anymore. )

I have in this Desktop PC two drives, one SSD with 200GB partition for Windows, and a 2TB HDD with 1TB for Windows data. After Windows installed, I went in to Audit mode, and configured the Users and ProgramData folders to be on the 1TB HDD, and later made Symlinks to these folders on the C: partition, so even programs, that can't comprehend the ProgramData and Users folders being on a different partition can work as I would like them to. (I do not wish to debate whether it is a correct way of using Windows or not.)

With great care this time, I was able to install Windows to my liking, and fairly stable, with one exception, ... Read more

I've got a wireless ADSL router with 4 ethernet ports. I've a desktop using XP and connected via ethernet and a laptop running windows 98 connected using a wireless PC Card. I can connect to the internet from both machines but can't get them to see each other.

Laptop says it can't browse the network. I tried the network setup wizard in XP and created a disk when prompted. Tried disk in 98 and rebooted when prompted. On startup, wizard said it couldn't find network card and couldn't continue.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

Checklist for networking Windows Machines with TCP/IP
-----------------------------------------------------
- PCs which are not XP must have TCP/IP installed.
- Each PC must have a unique computer name.
- Each PC must have a network share defined.
- ALL NICS must be on the same subnet (e.g. IP 192.168.0.* subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
- XP PCs must have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (only essential for XP to talk to W9X PCs).
- MS Client and file & printer sharing must be enabled on each machine.
- All NICs must have their node type = anything except p-node (peer to peer, or point-point).
* To check, open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL.
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled. (Only necessary for pre XP SP2).
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled, uninstalled and deleted (until connection is working).
- PCs have the same workgroup (helps, but not essential for XP/2K, necessary for 9X/ME).

Allow 15 mins after rebooting a PC for that PC to appear in the workgroup, or
for it to see all other PCs. Or you can search for the PC by its computer name.
Additional things to check if you still have problems:

- Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.
- XP gives access to its shares via the Net Guest Account. (Note, not the same as the local guest account in user accounts which should be off). Net Guest Account is enabled by default in XP, but... Read more

I have been having issues with my the Linksys Wireless card I installed in my Desktop computer for some time now. For some reason the connection just drops, but it still says I am connected. I leave a dos window open to watch as it happens by pinging the router. All of the sudden it will say "request timed out", but the icon shows that it's still connected to the wireless network.

I have tried just about everything to overcome this but nothing seems to work. Rebooting the router will allow it to work for a few minutes and then it times out again. Sometimes it will continue timing out, sometimes it will reconnect and sometimes it will says limited or no connection. Sometimes hitting repair will do the same thing...make it work for a few moments and they down again.

I have 4 other devices that connect to that router wirelessly and they have no issues at all, so I'm not prepared to blame the router. I noticed that my desktop's event view shows this entry frequently:

“The system detected that network adapter” Linksys...PCI Adapter – “Packet Scheduler Miniport was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter”.

Would seeing this event frequently not indicate that the card was dropping often and coming back up?

I'm pretty much ready to run a 50' ethernet cable to the computer, but I thought I'd check with you guys first before I completely give up on the wireless card.

I have a D-Link Wireless Router in my basement office that's connected to my cable modem. I also have a D-Link 8-port gigabit switch connected to the wireless router. Over the last few years I have wired many rooms in my house that all connect into the gigaswitch. Everything works fine. I am also using WEP encryption on the wireless router.

I now have the need to extend the wireless capability to an upstairs room, but cannot seem to get a reliable signal that will stay connected. I decided to try and plug an older D-Link Wireless Access point device (DWL-1000AP) into the wired RJ-45 ethernet jack in the room. I went through the 'successful' install of the 1000AP and my wireless devices seem to recognizes it as an access point -along with the wireless router in my basement office. I used WEP encryption again on the 1000AP device - same key.

However, whenever I try to connect to that 1000AP I cannot get connected. It simply will not connect to the 1000AP device which is sitting just a few feet from my wireless device/computer.

Why won't it connect? One possible theory I've thought of is that I have one wireless point (the 1000AP) connected into another wireless point - both using the same WEP encryption and security key value. Is this the probable issue? Is what I'm trying to do, well doable? Or, am I way off base here? Is there another way to do this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
redjr....

BTW, I'm using WinXP Pro SP2.

A:Wireless Access Point Connected to Wireless Router??

You should be able to connect. If you configure the access point with no security, does it connect then? That's the way to narrow this down.

Remember, you need to use the hex keys for WEP, not the passcode, since that's not always 100% reliable.

Hi,

I am just getting the nerve to start my home network. I have a laptop and desktop both physically connected to a wireless router. I have 2 desktops downstairs that have wireless antennas/recievers. All computers are XP Home.

I want to network, and I have bought a "network for dummies" book. It does not tell me how to go about making sure I configure everything right.

Do I "add a network place," "set up a home or small office network," or "set up a wireless network" first?

Anyhelp to get started would be appreciated. Also, can I make it secure so no-one can just add themselves to my network?

Thank you so much.

Hi everybody,

I'm having a huge problem with my new laptop. The wireless card is both picking up and connecting to my wireless network with perfect strength. However, for some reason I don't have any internet access! Both IE and FF are displaying the "unable to connect" error message, and AVG is unable to connect to the update manager.

The I.P. details mirror those of my working desktop computer and everything appears to be in order. I can ping my own I.P. address, but I'm unable to ping the default gateway, along with any web site.

I've been trying to remedy this situation for about 3-4 days and I've taken numerous actions to see if I can connect properly. Here's a list of actions I've already taken:

-Looked up the working I.P. details from my desktop computer and statically entered them into my laptop.
-Numerous virus scans
-Flushed DNS
-Released and renewed IP
-WinsockFix
-LSPFix
-Backed up and deleted WinSock and WinSock 2 keys from registry
-netsh winsock reset
-netsh firewall reset
-netsh int ip reset log.txt
-Deleted and replaced tcpip.sys
-Turned off router/recycled power
-Installed tc/ip in C:\Windows\inf
-Deleted and re-installed NIC drivers

Any ideas as to what could be wrong? I would re-install Windows but unfortunately I bought a licensed laptop which came with XP already installed, meaning I don't have the XP install discs.

A:Wireless connected...but not connected

I would re-install Windows but unfortunately I bought a licensed laptopClick to expand...

What's a "licensed laptop"? In general Microsoft requires OEMs to make Windows reinstallation possible; most PCs now come with a Recovery Partition and instructions on how to create a set of Recovery DVDs or CDs for use when/if the Recovery Partition can not be used.

Set the TCP/IP properties to obtain an IP configuration dynamically.

Disable encryption on the router, and make sure you're not locking yourself out with something like MAC Address filtering.

Try to connect by both ethernet and wireless and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

How do i fix this? I have been messing around with the startup type (automatic/manual) and it's helped a bit (instead of "searching for ip address" it's actually connected).

Thanks!

So your saying that your connected to your internet using wireless and it says your connected on the wireless icon on your taskbar, but when you open the wireless connection its saying no wireless devices in range?

Is there any other wireless program installed that controls your wireless instead of windows i.e "dell wireless manager" or something similar, and is this actually afecting you using your computer on the internet?

I clicked on the download link for WIndows and it downloaded and installed on my computer and then just went back to that same page. I thought it was suppose to run a scan (analyzer) on my computer? So where and what do I need to do for it to run a scan on my computer to check the channels being used and possible interference with my wifi? Or if there is something else that I need to do to fix my wifi connection issue? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi, I've searched for about an hour and a half around the forums to try and find the answer to this but I didn't. I'd rather not bring my laptop to the store for repairs since I don't know when I'll see it back !!

I have a laptop, about 2 years old. Worked almost flawlessly until recently. It's a toshiba satellite celeron 2.8 I believe with 768 megs of RAM.
I have a problem with my wireless connection. Recently, it started "not finding available networks". It's stupid because the wireless card actually works since I'm connected right now, as I am typing this. My card automatically connects to the last network it was in, so I can only connect to a random network that is around my house, but not my actual one. I cannot change my connection to my own router since it says "No wireless networks found in range". It's not cool because now, at school, I can't get on the network since it can't find it...

The Network stumbler finds 8 connections around my house, but the "wireless network connection" window doesn't.

I reinstalled my drivers, I tried playing in the services and msconfig-boot utilities to see if I had disabled something... nothing.

anybody ever saw something like that ?
thanks a lot in advance.

Hi: we have a Supermicro server with an Intel C600 series controller and we would like to use some of the ports and their disks as removable devices, to allow to copy media from one server to another. I mean:
- The controller has 4 ports with 4 disk on each, 16 disks in total
- The first 4 ports will remain the same, not removable (OS in Raid 1, Media in Raid 0)
- The other ports (2-4) will be used with SATA SSD drives and we need to remove them via Eject hardware (as an attached hard drive) and then being able to attach them to the backup server to read the media.

So far as I know, there's a DWORD I may need to add in the registry, but a little help would be more than welcome to solve this.

This is the opposite way, to not allow the HDD to be ejected.

Unless you are running a free public hotspot it's best to encrypt your wireless network, preferably with WPA or WPA2 but WEP usually suffices. Then you know (WPA) or are pretty sure (WEP) that the computers on the network are the ones used by the people to whom you gave the passphrase or hex key.

My wireless internet says not connected but underneath says I am. It also doesn't last very long and when I lose it a window for dial up connect pops up. I close it re-connect to a non connection and then cnnect to the web so I'm not working online. However when I firs turn on my computer I am legitimately connected to the internet for a few minutes and then the problems start up again. IF I go to a friend house, I can't connect to his internet at all either. My roommate is able to use our wireless so I'm sure it's not the router. I posted in the dell forum for hijack this but haven't gotten any help. I'm hoping someone here can because it's a real nuisance when my homework is online and the connection keeps going out.
Thank you so much

A:Wireless says not connected but is

"when I firs turn on my computer I am legitimately connected to the internet for a few minutes and then the problems start up again."

And the problem is that your wireless connection is lost (not just internet access), right? If so, a very frequent cause of that is having multiple wireless adapters running. One could be Dell WLAN. You haven't given enough information to guess what any other one could be.

So, what wireless utility (client) are you using to manage your connection? And are you sure that no other one is running?
"IF I go to a friend house, I can't connect to his internet at all either."

By ethernet or wireless? Just can't get internet access, or can't get a connection to the router (assuming a router is used)?

I wanted to be able to use my 360 controllers on my pc, so I bought the xbox 360 wireless reciever for windows. I downloaded and installed the software for the device, however when I try to sync the controller to the PC, it just turns on the xbox 360. I tried unplugging my 360, but it still refuses to sync to the wireless reciever.

The strange thing is, they seem to recongnize each other. When I press the sync button on the reciever, and the light starts blinking, and then I press the sync button on the controller, the reciever's light stops blinking instantly, but the controller's doesn't and it doesn't sync.

Any ideas? I've searched all over and I can't seem to find anything about this problem. :(

I have purchased a Polaroid wireless controller PGPS533 to use on PS3.

The instructions are:
Plug the receiver into the usb port on the PS3 game console and then turn on the console. You will find the red LED light on the receiver flashing. Press the connect button on the receiver on first and then switch the controller on, press the controller select and L3 button for 3 seconds and let go.

The receiver will then automatically search for the connecting signal from the wireless game controller. When the controller connects to the receiver the red LED light will stay on - (this works)

(The four LED lights on the controller flash rapidly and then go back to a steady flash but the controller then will not operate on the PS 3)

After the controller successfully connects to the receiver, press the PS button to activate the controller on the PS3 console.
This does not work

I never get far enough in the installation to be able to assign a port to the controller because it won't operate the PS3.

This is the second controller of this brand I have tried. I have had no success in contacting Polaroid for any assistance.

It won't operate the PS until you assign a port. You suddenly start mentioning the port in the middle of your post, but where did that come up fist, when and how are you supposed to assign a port?

Of course not. You haven't finished connecting it yet.

I have a printer (with wireless capability) wired to desktop (Windows XP) and a wireless laptop (Windows 7). My question is, can the printer be connected wirelessly to the laptop as well as wired to the desktop, or does everything have to be wireless?
Another question: If I want to share files between the two computers, do they both have to be the same operating system? (one is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7)

A:Solved: Wireless Laptop/Wireless Desktop (via wireless adapter)/ printer

I would guess that the printer can be connected by ethernet and wireless, but I've never had one with both capabilities so I don't really know.

I once had a printer that worked OK connected to a network plus connected to another computer by USB. Even so, that may depend on the particular printer.

There may be two operating systems that cannot file share with each other but I don't know which ones that might be. Windows XP and 7 are fine sharing with each other (but not claiming that nobody has had any problems).

Can anyone who uses this confirm if it starts fine on startup or do you have to unplug/plug it in all the time when restarting? That's what some reviews say. I'm in the business on resetting my PC a lot.

thanks.

Hi Everyone,

My Toshiba Tecra 9000 laptop lost sound suddenly a month ago. I can't pin it to any event. There is a "!" next to:
Intel? 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller in Device Manager. Device Status: This Device cannot start (Code 10). My current audio driver is version 5.1.2535.0. When I attempt to install what I believe is the most recent driver (6.13.10.4104, I get:

"Yamaha AC-XG WDM
Setup failed to launch installation engine.
The RPC server is unavailable.
OK"

Every 10 days or so, the sound functions after startup, and of course the "!" is gone from Device Manager.

Any light you could shed on this situation would be very much appreciated.

You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the original, using the disk which came with it. When doing this, make sure to run your anti-virus program and anti-spyware program and restart your computer. This may help clear up the problem.

Also try uninstalling old first then installing the new.

I can no longer get the XboxOne controller to function properly with the wireless adapter.

A couple months ago I was already running Windows 10 x64 from the free update from Windows 8.1 and I purchased the Wireless Controller Adapter for the Xbox One Controller. When I plugged it in, it worked perfectly. It worked in every game, it worked with Kodi, and even the sound worked. It showed up under playback devices as a headphone device and my controllers are the remodeled versions with the 3.5mm jack. To sum up, it just worked perfect.

Two weeks ago, I reformatted the PC, skipping loading 8.1 first and updating, I installed a retail version of Windows 10 Pro x64 onto a fresh SSD. Ive downloaded every update Windows has and I cannot get the controller/wireless adapter to work right at all.

It no-longer shows in device manager as Xbox One Controller.
Some games work while others behave as if the D-Pad button is being pressed to the right.
Kodi also behaves as if D-pad is stuck to the right.
Nothing shows up under Playback Devices in the Audio section.

I am just clueless as to why and how it worked perfectly and now it doesn't after reformatting.

My current OS version and Build are:
Windows 10 Pro x64
Version - 1511
Build - 10586.318

The only thing I have tried is uninstalling the adapter and the driver and let Windows re-download the driver. That did not seem to help.

I would appreciate any and all help.

Do you mean xbox or xbox 360 wireless controller? if you mean 360 why don;t you just use the microsoft provided drivers? If it's not automatically recognized by a game, use XPadder to set up custom control schemes for them.

@CATMANDO666? System Restore sets the computer to a "previous time and date" environment. At the least, disconnect the controller > reboot > reconnect as recommended by the manufacturerand / orRun Windows UpdatesInstall any software required by the controllerWhen you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.
