For some reason the onscreen display for the volume controls and screen brightness on my W530 stop working after coming back from sleep or resume. I updated Power Management, Hotkey and Interface but the problem still rears its ugly head. If I go into screen resolution and advanced and on screen then uncheck Enable onscreen and recheck it...the controls work again.

try to reinstall the OSD software. Uninstall the current OSD software that you have, and download the latest version from below.

Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Try removing your KB via Devices and Printers, reboot your machine and see if by Win7 reinstallation of your KB dosen't help your issue. If not, see if there are more updated drivers for your KB.

I just replaced my old system with a new one, and used the sound system I had with the old one.

AMD 3500
1 gig Ram
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Boston Acoustics Surround Sound System
On board audio used- no sound card

I had a few problems getting sound to work, realized that had to use the digital out to get the system I have to work. After using an adapter from the digital out it worked fine. I proceeded to dump the Norton that was installed and download Mcaffee from AOL. I also downloaded Spybot and Adaware and ran scans,, deleted a few nasties that came up and ran scan with Mcaffee. Everything fine with the exception that the volume buttons on the keyboard no longer work. Ive been into all the Keyboard setup and volume controls and have yet to find anything to make the keyboard controls work again. It shows on the screen when u push the button but doesn't control vol. I can adjust externally or on the application. I have downloaded the latest drivers from HP but that didn't help either. All other controls work. Any ideas anyone?

I have an issue with my laptop. About once a day, or every other day, the touch button on the keyboard controlling the volume seems to get activated, and my volume is thrown all of the way up to maximum. It gets stuck like that for a few hours. When that happens, all of the other buttons on the keyboard get frozen as well. Is there anyway to disable that strip of buttons on the top of the keyboard?

I don't have any clue what would cause this, or what did cause it. I have the Logitech ClearChat Wireless headset. It has an on/off switch, a mute button for the built-in mic, and up/down volume controls. Well, something's happened with the volume controls, now when I click them and a program window is open, it closes it. Eithe up or down, it appears to be acting as an ALT+F4 macro button. I would have posted this on the logitech forums, but I can't sign in, even though I'm using the right email and password, it won't let me.

This is really frustrating, because sometimes I listen to music in the broswer and I use the volume controls on the headset, and now using them closes the browser window, or windows media player, whatever window is open and focused gets closed when the buttons get pressed.

Someone PLEASE help me figure out this problem! Thanks in advance.

EDIT: it turns out all the control buttons on my keyboard are malfunctioning also. I mean the volume control buttons, play/pause next/previous media item, favorite buttons, music, broswer, zoom, etc keyboard shortcuts, they all try to shut down the computer.

Hi guys,

The following set of exes allow you to map custom buttons on laptops to Windows shortcut commands . Currently supported is : to increase and decrease volume/brightness by a single click . Quick brightness change is great for long gaming or development sessions on the pc !

I have been missing that feature badly.

Also sending shortcuts i.e ALT+TAB is supported.

You need your laptop to have the software that can map the button to the exe.

This is donationware so all help is appreciated.

Coming soon also one-button changing the Nvidia color levels, as this is another thing that has been killing me.

Hello! I upgraded about a month ago. My laptop locked me out entirely shortly after the upgrade so I had to take it to be wiped clean. When I got it back everything was in working order with Windows 10 except the top row of keys that control volume, brightness and the ability to pause, rewind and skip songs now solely does the standard system commands of f1-f10 *caret browsing on/of, find in page, etc* Im not sure if they worked the first time I tried to upgrade because I couldn't even log on to my computer after I upgraded the first time so I reformatted. How can I make those keys usable for volume and brightness again? Thank you!

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Hp DV9823CL. The quickplay and dvd buttons work, but the volume and mute buttons do not. This is what I sent HP:

problem description : I did a clean install of Windows 7. Prior to the clean install all quickplay buttons worked fine. Now the quickplay and the dvd buttons work, but the volume and mute buttons do not work.
troubleshooting : I reinstalled quickplay, as well as the quick play buton drivers that are listed. I also did a troubleshoot that worked once when I removed the battery and put it back in. This also does not fix the problem.

Hello, I have an X1 Yoga and just noticed that the volume rocker (the physical buttons on the right side of the computer) don't seem to work when my lid is closed.  When the lid is open, the rocker works great.  But not otherwise. I have tried playing music from both Spotify and Youtube.  Both sources of audio don't work.  (Not sure if that's relevant, but just thought I'd mention it.) If there are any other X1 owners out there (Yoga or Carbon; I believe they're very similar), could you please test this out?  I normally adjust volume with the Fn keys (with the lid open, obviously) so I didn't notice this issue until today.  I was just trying to listen to music with the lid closed for the first time today when I noticed the problem. Thanks!

I can't Press ENTER Anymore on my laptop keyboard, neither ''L'' and serval more buttons, which make it pointless to use my laptop now..

I'm currently going back to norway, and i am leaving the low profile KB here, and i'd love to make the keyboard work 100% Again?

I'm not sure why, but it does not let me press enter, or L, it ignores it, like it dosent even effect anything..

so i wrote this by using the lame acme keyboard.. with wire.

This is a laptop keyboard, the keys L N and K didnt work before. So i assume it was a bad keyboard, i order a online keyboard and now this one the keys ZX 1 dont work. So is this a keyboard hardware issue? Did i just get another bad one ? Should i get another keyboard and retry or can something else cause keys to not work

A:Keyboard buttons dont work

Ouch

Well, not sure I can help other than to say that like you I would have assumed that the damage was confined entirely to the KB and replacing it should have gone smoothly (Not like you spilled a coke or something that would have leaked al over internally).

Probably the think to do is return the new one as defective and ask for another... If that also doesn't work then it would almost have to be the computer itself...

Did the contamination get anywhere near the KB cable connector?

Hi there, a buddy of mine got a ibm r52 laptop recently from a relative that sat for a few months. anyways, it was given to him and it worked great for about a week then he noticed issues with the keyboard, trackpoint, scroll pad and buttons not working sometimes after boot.
And when they dont work...they dont work. Its not a on and off thing...its either or.

So he has me looking at it...

I dont think its a big issue b/c the keyboard will ALWAYS work when i want to go into the BIOS. I loaded up a Acronis TI boot disk and the keyboard and trackpoint worked fine...but then i tried it again and only the keyboard worked and no trackpoint or pad.

So far i have tried updating the BIOS and embedded controller to the latest with no luck.
Ive also tried a quick fresh install....no luck...still either on or off.

However, if i plug my usb wireless mouse in the mouse cursor works fine...always...

So i guess my next step is to open her up, but im waiting to hear back on any suggestions first....and i got to find a service manual for it...
Thanks for reading.

Hi All,

I had to replace a keyboard recently and the old one had a mute button for the volume control. It also had up/down buttons but I used the mute more than anything as it was a lot quicker to hit than pop up the Volume control slider.

When I got the new keyboard I didn't think to check for one on it and of course it does not have one. So, looking around I have found some freeware called 3RVX that looks like it will do the job by assigning a keyboard key for mute.

I am reluctant to just plug it in and try it as I like to read reviews etc to make sure it is not some kind of malware. I have done quite a bit of searching and found nothing much from mainstream reviewers. It is not on CNet and that always has me nervous.

So, anyone know about it?

Used it?

Problems with it?

Other alternatives?

Thanks

A:Adding Volume Control on Keyboard?

In Windows, no. In KDE/Linux, yes. Sorry, but unless you use Linux, you will have to get a new keyboard if you wish to control your volume with it. A lot of keyboards come with such controls, and are fairly cheap. A quick search for "volume" in the NewEgg keyboards section gave me this list. A search for "media" gave me this one.

Recently I went through a day of torture by an unsuccessful attempt to System Restore. I lost a display driver from some inadvertent deletion in either Sytem Mechanic or some other registry cleanup program. I tried several solutions, then, perhaps prematurely, reinstalled Windows XP Pro. Experiencing further difficulties, I then reinstalled Service Pack 1, which fixed the display problem pretty much. BUT... some sound problems developed:

a) I was no longer able to locate any volume or play control. I found an article in the Windows Knowledge Base that told me how to install the play control panel through the command prompt from my XP Pro disk. This fixed this problem... But...

b) While I can now control the volume through the sys tray icon and the play control panel, I no longer have this function on my keyboard! I reinstalled the keyboard software from a download site, and the keyboard's shortcut button functions all work BUT NOT the volume control. The mute button works fine, but NOT the volume control buttons (the - and + buttons). They were working fine previous to my reinstalling Windows. I fear that some registry file or setting needs fixing.

c) Lately I have discovered a final and third problem. There is no sound recorder in my files! I find NO sound recorder in my Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment section, nor anything like this by conducting a file search. It seems that this recorder didn't get installed when I reinstalled Windows. Is there a file... Read more

A:No Sound Recorder in Windows XP and Can't Use Volume Control on Keyboard!

Check Device manager and particularly the Keyboard and Sound items. If either have yellow marks or don't agree with what you know to be the correct item, delete all of the listings and ask for a new detection, as you can do there.

Even if there are no apparent problems shown there, delete those two items anyway, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Windows will pick them up again and perhaps you'll get lucky.

Beyond that, be certain that you are supplying the correct drivers for the enhanced keyboard that you apparently have and if you have sound card drivers, supply those instead of letting Windows do a default selection for you. Normally XP does well that way, but you're evidently not a normal case.

Good luck.

Just setting up a new computer. Have a logitech receiver and wireless mouse + keyboard ... batteries in both are good (I checked with voltmeter).

So everything is fine and I'm setting up windows. I go to local security policy to disable the administrator account and then go to rename it, and find out my keys aren't working!! But for some odd reason, the shortcut buttons to calculator and internet explorer work just fine... just none of the keys (numbers or letters) work. cntrl alt del doesn't work.

So I try a keyboard that is from a working computer, and that won't work either. I'm really stumped. The USB ports should be fine as the MOUSE works fine (the wireless mouse and also other mouses work fine). The motherboard is brand new.
The working keyboard I tested doesn't seem to be even getting power on this new computer. Not sure why. I can't even get into the BIOS cause the keyboard doesn't work!

Title kind of says it all. I just purchased a brand new K3500 Wireless Keyboard which has keys which are supposed to Pause, Play, Skip FWD, Skip Back, etc. when listening to music. The keyboard came with no drivers or software of any kind; I, in fact,  was unable to find anything at for this keyboard on HP support. As there is no software available I would expect it to "just work" out of the box. I have actually had this same issue with another Wired HP keyboard ... SK-2023. It was the reason I was attempting to replace it. I assumed that teh keyboard was broken or somethign was amiss ... now it appears that all the keyboards are this way. Has anyone else had and resolved this issue? If I cannot resolve it I will have to return the keyboard and get something else. I am on a Win7 OS ... does that matter? Thanks,G

I have just bought a Acer laptop. The model, as it says on my laptop, Aspire 4752-6838.

The problem is that my fn hotkeys do not work for raising and lowering the volume or muting or playing. That would be fn + up, fn + down, and fn + f8, respectively.

Interestingly enough, my fn hotkeys work for other functions like num lock, brightness. Im not sure about my other fn keys working, but i dont have a need for them, so i dont care. However i really want to use my fn hotkeys for volume control.

Is there any way to enable this? Or does any one know where this problem arises and a solution?

BTW i read the manual and it doesn't help me with my problem. I also tried searching google and found no help either. If anyone knows where else i can look, that would help too.

A:My fn hotkeys do not work for volume control

Take it back to where you bought it and have them take a look. It could be a faulty keyboard. What version of Windows are you running? Have you run Windows update till no more updates are found?

I have always been a fond user of multimedia keyboard/mouse controls, particularly volume control. Unfortunately, ever since I got a new audio card (Creative SB X-Fi) in order to use digital surround sound (SPDIF DTS encoding >>> amplifier), muting still works, however, volume control doesn't change anything.

Now I am aware of all the arguments that you can't change digital output volume, however, i know this CAN be done. I have done this myself in two ways, firstly, by changing the EQ level in the Creative volume mixer, and more intruigingly, by changing Creative's "What U Hear" level in the recording tab of the control panel sound controls pane.

Ideally, I would like keyboard volume controls to adjust the "What U Hear" level, however volume control only changes the default PLAYBACK device, and "What U Hear" is a RECORDING device.

So here is my Question:

How do you configure volume controls to adjust the "What U Hear" level? Alternatively, can digital volume control be achieved in another way?

I'm sure this can be done by changing a registry key associating volume +/- and default device, but no luck so far. If anyone can help or has another method for control digital volume I would be much appreciated.

PS. I am not interested in using my amp's remote for volume so please don't suggest that.

A:Creative X-Fi digital volume control. Help, I KNOW this can work!!!

Unless you are a programmer and can create a program to do this specific task, I don't see a way around it. The S/PDIF doesn't use the sound card or at least the parts of it that can be controlled by the usual methods.

What you are hearing in the PC speakers is being generated by the PC's sound card, after the digital section so that is two different functions.

It looks like, to me, that "you can't get there from here".

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I have all my sound drivers installed (I can get sound just fine in every app), but I can't control the main volume in the Volume Control. I can adjust the volume with the Wave slider, but the main one doesn't do anything, including mute. Individual applications' volume controls work fine too, just not the main Windows one. It wouldn't be a problem, but it might be the reason why I'm not getting any volume on the Stereo Mix recording option. I just finished a clean install of XP (for a different reason) and it wasn't working before, either. Any ideas?

In the Control Panel, click on Sound and Audio Devices Properties, then on the Hardware tab. Select your Audio device and click on Properties. In the window that opens, at the bottom, make sure the device is Enabled. If it already is, you can try updating or reinstalling your sound card driver.

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Morning,

Bit of a weird one here...within the last week - I installed a fresh copy of Win 7 x64 SP1 on a new office workstation. I am using the Logitech K800 keyboard and J.River Media Center for media playback.

NOTE: I am using the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard and it's onboard Realtek Azalia HD audio chip. I am NOT using the Realtek drivers (more on that in a moment) - I am using the built in Windows 7 HD Audio drivers.

Long story short - I discovered some conflicts with the internals of the motherboard where the front panel headphone jack of my case (Antec P182) would exhibit static in the phones if moving the mouse on screen. Traced that to some weird issue with the USB ports so I had to install a separate front panel insert into the case and attached JUST the audio cable so I could get static free headphone listening.

Now the issue. When using J.River Media Center (and WASAPI Event Style from within Media Center) and I select "speakers" under it's Device Output area - I am able to use the Mute, Volume Up and Volume Down hot keys on the K800 to control the audio level that comes from the speakers.

But - if I change the Device Output to Headphones - using the exact same audio device - suddenly the three audio buttons (upper right of the keyboard by the Calculator button) suddenly do not work.

Couple things - I cannot recall in any previous build whether or not these button were working or not OR if I just decided to try them for the first time with headp... Read more

A:Volume controls on K800 Keyboard do not work with Headphones

In most cases the vendor's (Gigabyte ) sound driver should be used. The Windows installed HD Audio Codec are a "basic function" sound driver.

I would start with the proper sound driver and work from that. If the Antec front panel headphone/mic connection has an HD Audio connector use that, otherwise use the AC97 however that may be some auto detect functions that won't work.

A:my keyboard sound control ke dp not work when other audio device is on

Use the other audio device and adjust the sound from within windows 7 via right click of Playback Devices/Mixer via the speaker icon in your task tray?

Keyboard as audio device would only control that audio, unless there was a specific driver for windows 7 to specifically handle those duties with that keyboard, and looks like you answered that one; no driver.

I visited the Perixx website, indeed listed OS support ended at Vista, I would try using the Vista driver anyway, just in case, looks like tech from 2007, so indeed Windows 7 was not out yet.

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Hello. There are a couple of things one can do to try to solve an audio problem when one does not know what is causing the problem. The first thing is to reinstall the audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager2. Expand the Sound, Video & Game Controllers section.3. Right click on the audio driver and select to uninstall.4. Do not put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software.5. Restart the laptop and Windows will reinstall the driver, but with the settings back to their defaults.
Another thing is to use Windows System Restore if you have a Windows operating system. Find a Restore Point dated from before the cat walked on the laptop. Windows System Restore will fix certain system changes.
A third thing you can do is reset the laptop back to the original factory configuration.
If you need more help, include the full model name of your laptop and which operating system it has. Without knowing those things you can only get generic advice.

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hi, I know this is not exactly the right sort of forum but I thought someone might know why the remote that came with my 5.1 speakers has 2 volume up and volume down buttons. But pressing either 2 of the volume up buttons just does the same thing, increase the volume on the display by one, and same for volume down.

So why does it have 2 sets? Is it some special feature or something to do with surround? Or even just for looks lol? Pic:

A:Remote has 2 Sets of Volume Buttons

As a guess, I'd say that one set is for the front pair of speakers and the other is for the rear speakers. It could also be that one is actually a front-to-rear fader and the other is a left-right balance control.

What brand and model are the speakers?

In Device Manager>>Sound, what do you see highlighted under "Set a playback device..." and what do you see selected when you press "Configure"? The fact that both sets of buttons do the exact same thing makes me think that Windows isn't sure what kind of speaker configuration you have.

Did the speakers come with any software? If so, is it properly installed?

A:Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/keyboard-shortcuts#keyboard-shortcuts=windows-7 tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

Whenever I touch the mute button or the volume control (whether I'm in a game, at the desktop, in email, etc.), Microsoft Excel is launched. I have Office 2003 Professional.

Any suggestions on how to correct this?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your keys are not mapped correctly. Does HP have some utiliity that does that for your system?

Also check the control panel and keyboard. You might be able to map those keys there.

I have a Viewsonic A90f. I've had it for a little less than a year. It has always worked fine but recently only one of the control buttons works, the brightness button. I can't access the main menu which I need in order to degauss. The image on the screen has a slight jitter because, I think, I can't turn the monitor off or degauss it. Please help. Thank you.

A:Monitor Control Buttons

Some monitors have a total reset button on them, some look like a small pin hole.

The jitter you are having could be caused by something electrical, a light or a fan.

Good Luck!

I recently couldnt access Control Panel nor RUN buttons because they were not on my START button list. I run COMBOfix for that reason and it was resolved. However, i had a run ESET Enterprise Edition and it discovered 2 threats which i deleted. After my pc went off due to power failure, i went to the old problem again and had to run ComboFix once more. Here is a log of both Combo fix and HijackThis. Hope someone helps me out there because i would appreciate that effort cos my pc is not as fast as it used to be in tems of performance. Thanks

I have a Workbook (Excel 2013 Student) with 3 sheets (sheet1, 2, 3). Sheet1 has an ActiveX form which takes the full screen (columns / rows are hidden). I would like to put a control button, preferably 2 buttons, which will take me to sheet2 / sheet3 when I click on each button

How can I do this?

I have a Nokia Lumia 635 and have updated to windows 10 anniversary. The app control buttons are now masked by the three system control buttons at the bottom of the screen, so you can't use the delete, sync etc buttons.
In messaging the pop-up keyboard masks the typing line so you cannot see what you are typing in portrait mode.
When using the BBC News apps the text is rendered in a huge font which makes the app unusable.

Greetings.

I'm using XP professional.

On "control panel", "install o uninstall programs" the buttons have disappeared. I cannot uninstall the programs any more.

I've installed "Windows live toolbar" and then "Windows live one care". The programs revised during 23 hours the PC and found no problem. It caused problems because it entered in conflict with other programs so I uninstalled it.

I re-installed Windows XP professional from the CD and there was no change either. The only effect: I have a zillion Windows updates waiting.
I don't know if it has something to do with this problem:
Automatic update of Windows doesn't update any more. I tried manually, no update. It simply says "some updates have not been installed". It means, no update.

Thank you for your help
And God bless you

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

A:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

Hi all you smart guys! Lately, some of the keys on my laptop have stopped working . .off and on. At first it was the "Z" and then the "!" and then the "?". However, the "!" is now working but the "." has begun skipping along with the right hand "shift" key. It seems that when I press it several times in a row it begins to work partially. I tap with the same pressure. I keep my keyboard pretty clean and have worked very hard to blow any debris out from the keys. I really don't want to buy a new keyboard! Could this problem be from a virus or malware? If not is it possible to remove the key and clean under it? Thanks for listening.
