Second monitor connected by HDMI to DVI shows black screen

Q: Second monitor connected by HDMI to DVI shows black screen

Hey guys.. so I connected my other SA350 monitor from my other broken computer to my main one, and it shows a black screen. They're the same monitors, and the power to both are on. I'm on Extended, the other monitor's input is HDMI and the output port on the computer is DVI (Amazon Basics). Main monitor is VGA to VGA. What should I do? Updated system specs for your convenience.

Solved. Sorry, it seems the monitor is just Pfftt. It's dead, and it's going to the Samsung Service Center ASAP.

Hello,

My laptop's screen goes black when I connect it to the TV via a HDMI cable, however this is completely new as it used to work fine. I can still watch things on my TV but I have to look at the TV screen where text comes up quite small and it makes it hard to do stuff, so I was wondering if anyone would know why my laptop's decided to start doing this, and how I can get it back to both screens working at once? The volume and everything else works ok, it's just a bit annoying is all!

I have Windows Vista Home Edition, not sure of the details, but I got it just when Vista first came out.

Thanks!

This morning, when I turned the PC on, the monitor only showed a black screen. It was working well last night though. Th PC seems to work normally as it seems like it reaches the desktop part with start menu and all the short cut Icons. I know this because after waiting for a while, I press the windows button then press "U" two times(it's the hot key for shut down and turn off). The light around the power button of the monitor keeps on blinking instead of a consistent light(this thing usually happens after turning the PC on while there's still power on the monitor until the AVR is turned off). There were no beep sounds and such when turning the PC as it never had those kind of sounds even when things are okay.

If this helps, the fan for the video card is still working as other fans as well.

What could be the problem? Video Card? Monitor? Monitor to PC connection? I probably just need to know which is the problem for now.

EDIT: I'm not very knowledgeable on hardware terms and I'm not very good at this stuff as well so I probably won't try to do changes on my computer by my own.

i installed windows 8 on my new pc who includes Shappire 7870 xt boost and monitor Samsung T220. whether i turned off the monitor manually or it turns off automatic by power saver, sometimes the monitor shows only black screen. The monitor does turns on, it's light turn on, but all i get is black screen.

i also have I5 4570 and Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H.after i installed windows, i installed the motherboard drivers, includes Intel HD Graphics 4600. Could it conflicts with the ATI's driver?

also, when i connect the monitor to the motherboard it works fine (so far at least). but games doesn't run smoothly.

A:Monitor shows black screen after been turned off manually

Hello matizami, and welcome to EightForums,

If your monitor works fine when connected to the motherboard, then the issue lies with your graphic card. Make sure you're running the latest drivers for your graphic card. Go here to update them.

Your motherboard drivers won't conflict conflict with ATI drivers.

So I had a few problems with my pc leading up to this. When i played a game my monitor would turn off but my pc would stay on meaning i would have to force shutdown (hold down the power button) in order to turn it back on. I recently cleaned my pc by removing dust from the gpu, heatsink and fans plus I reapplied thermal paste to the gpu. Things were working out fine for about a day until the problem happened again. I guess i kept force shutting down (since i really want to play and sometimes manage to get a game or two in) to the point where my pc wont even start after the Windows logo shows up when booting up. I need urgent help. If anything helps my Graphics card is an nvidia geforce gt 620 and usually hits 100c when gaming. Yes its bad i get it...but i need this back to work before my parents find out
Tl;dr - It shows a black screen with a white bar at the top after the windows 10 logo shows/loads up.

I have been noticing for a long while on my optional updates - "Display - Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series chipset family"

it showed update was released some where around June 2011, so I thought lemme do this one & installed it on Dec 24th.

this one to be exact: http://winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20411791

While installing the script, everything zoomed in by around 500% percent may be, then it turned normal. In between, I ha couple of black screens, which I use happens during "graphics card" update (just correct me if I'm wrong). After installation was completed, ... may be after 5-10mins, I had another black screen, I thought may be something failed or system went in for a reboot only for my surprise to see the screen back. This didn't repeat again though, thankfully.

Now ever since this update, while booting the system... after the window logo page, I get black screen for a short while, before I get Please wait, welcome page.. which keeps me guessing whether system turned off or restarted or its due to my current issues.

Not only this, while opening up some scripts which asks for permission to run the file ... for example when I try to open Command Prompt as Admin (to run sfc), screen goes into black screen & then flashes back with a few secs, with a faded screen asking me permission (I meant the regular faded screen, so nothing wrong with that)

can any one guide me, if this issue is related to the corrupt files prob which I'm having... Read more

Hi, (I use Windows 7 and Window+P doesn't work)

Sillilly, as I often do things, I have bought a Dell U2410 monitor to rig up with my HP laptop to use as an Extended Monitor. I hooked them up and no problems ensued. The default 'Duplicate Screen' option came into play and I had the same screen showing on each monitor. So, I changed to 'Extension' setting and the Dell went blank.

This is where it gets silly. I (for some reason) clicked on 'Show Monitor 2 only' (The Dell monitor) and after that, both screens went black. I unplugged the HDMI lead connecting them, and the laptop screen came back as it would. Now however, every time that I plug the HDMI cable to connect the 2, both screens stay black.

My question is; can I change the default setting to 'Duplicate Screen' BEFORE plugging in the HDMI?

OR... Can I simply delete the Dell monitor (driver?) from my laptop so that it forgets my choice and resets to the default Duplicate Screens setting on it's own?

The problem is that when both screens are blacked out, that I cannot change anything as I can't see anything!!!

Thank you for your awesomeness and replies.

Kind regards,

Me!

P.S. Windows + P doesn't work. If I unplug the HDMI from the laptop, I can use Window+P. But it doesn't matter what mode I choose before reconnecting, both screens still go blank. If I try Window+P when they are connected, nothing happens.

194 views, and nothing!! For anybody who may come across the same problem, I figured it out. Plug in a VGA at the same time as the HDMI is connected and change the settings. Quite easy really. Though I did lose several hours before figuring that out... I hope I save you guys some time. Also, the screen didn't show up because the HDMI port on the laptop is faulty. Test that too if you are having problems. It can be repaired at any computer repair shop by re-soldering. Thanks forum for your immeasurable help!

I have the 2nd setup through a vga to hdmi cable but it just sits there black with "check signal cable."

2nd monitor is an lg2241

Tried:

- multiple re-boots
- downloaded a driver from LG but don't see that it did any kind of install. Double clicking it's zip file opened it and clicking on the three files did nothing but open gibberish code.
- at screen resolution I see multiple displays and I have it set on extended.
- Clicked detect and identify
- #2 says display device on vga
- tried unplugging and reconnecting the cable (hdmi to vga)

I'm lost. SOS!

lol!

Thx,
Dave

A:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

I got a Sharp TV, 32" LC32GP3U-B (1080p full). I connected an hdmi cable from my laptop (1080p certified) to the TV.

BLACK BAR TV OUTPUT PROBLEM

I do not get the full screen output on my TV when connected via HDMI. The TV itself works fine in full screen (1080p). I DO get full screen output on any Linux o/s I test it with, via hdmi such as Ubuntu. However, I prefer to use Vista instead in order to use MCE and the plug-ins I have (Netflix, Joost, etc plus MCE remote). I duplicated this before and after upgrading to Vista SP1. I've duplicated this with many WHQL certified NVidia drivers as well. Literally about 10 different driver versions for my 8400M GT card. I cannot figure out why it is not showing full screen output, but I can confirm this happens in Vista only, not Linux (did not and will not test in XP). My index score in Vista is 5.3.

Nvidia panel shows proper 1920x1080 resolution.

Some drivers I've tried and duplicated the same problem:

174.93
175.12
167.43
163.75

Also, my TV settings are certainly proper since I do get full screen output in Linux and general TV viewing. I did try several new HDMI cables too, but thats irrelevant since it works fine in Linux.

Summary of settings / methods to fix the problem:
- 1920x1080p resolution (59 and 60Hz, same black bar problem)

Hello, I built my new computer about a week ago and was running it off a single 19" Tevion TV while I waited for the HDMI cables to arrive so I could setup my second monitor.

They arrived yesterday and when I plugged in my 32" JVC LT-32DA30J there was overscanning and the bluriness. I fixed the overscanning in the TV's menu and now the size is correct but even at native resolution, the JVC monitor is still quite blurry and is a strain to look at and concentrate on.

Plugging the HDMI cable into my Tevion monitor made that go blurry as well so it could be the HDMI cable or the motherboard ports (when I first got the PC, the VGA port had the same problem but once updated it looked normal)

Does anyone know of a fix to this ? Or can at least suggest what part is going wrong so I can try and fix it ?

What I have tried:
Changing the resolution - all the different resolutions all show the same blurriness
Changing the refresh rate - problem persists through all refresh rates
Changing monitor settings - As above, changing these settings didn't help with anything

Any help is very appreciated , I've been trying to fix this problem for most of yesterday

Hello, I am weighing up my options between purchasing an Ideapad 500s or a Thinkpad L460. I do a bit of video editing, and when I'm doing that kind of work I want to hook the laptop up to a 4k screen, (the extra pixels allow a much more efficient workflow). To connect to a 4k monitor at 60Hz I have read that I need a DisplayPort output (which I note that the 500s does not have), or an HDMI 2.0. I suspect that the Ideapad 500s does not have an HDMI 2.0 output, but I would be happy to be contradicted. Could someone please confirm this one way or ther other? Preferably if you could point me to some official documentation about the product which answers the question that would be great! If it does have an HDMI 2.0, I wonder if anyone has any idea how the nVidia chip would handle the 4k screen. I wouldn't be gaming or even doing and 3d modelling or rendering - just some HD video editing - so I expect it would be fine? Many thanks,Tom

When I right click on the volume control, the options it shows are:

It does not give me a properties option.

Then I went to control panel and searched for sound. Then I saw the screen below. There was a Digital Audio as well and I clicked 'Don't use this device(disable)' on it by mistake and clicked OK.

Now, I only have Speakers option. How do I get the Digital Audio option back in here? I think that will solve my original problem.

Using ACER K272HUL 31 inch monitor, connected via HDMI to my Y700-15ISK Laptop (ideapad). I am still in warranty according to my support account. (I did however swap out the default hard drive for another one purchased elsewhere) Here's what is happening: certain parts of the monitor with motion will remain colored while static parts will gray out. Here's a reddit thread I submitted to /r/techsupport. In hopes of utilizing two communities. So far, Bad HDMI port seems to be highest contender. I had a Y50-70 before this Y700 whose HDMI port was rather poor in quality; did not seat well, breathing on it wrong disconnected from monitor. It would not surprise me if that is the root problem.

Hi,

I've recently purchased a Samsung T23A750 monitor and to my disappointment when I try to watch a movie the built in speakers are not functioning. I have a Sony Vaio Z216GX connected via HDMI to the monitor (HDMI-DVI) port. I can definitely see the video, but no audio is playing from the speakers. The built in speakers are not at fault- I did a self-diagnosis of the monitor and the speakers seem to work fine. I also set the monitor as the default for the audio and even when Win 7 says its functioning properly, the speakers still don't work. Conversely, setting the default to my PC speakers work fine. I'm sure its not the HDMI cable- I used the same one to hook my pc to my tv with everything working fine. Any ideas??

Hi, I have a newly delivered N20p. It charges up, and switches on, (lights show on the side), but nothing happens on screen. No backlight, no image etc. If I plug an external monitor into the HDMI port, you do get the Chrome logo on power up, which is then replaced by a black screen. Pressing any key on the keyboard, and the key entered shows on the external monitor, but still nothing on the built in screen. The external monitor seems to be some sort of raw keyboard dump, rather than a command console. Press normal keys (qwerty etc) and those appears on screen, press any of the function keys, (Return, Screen brightness up etc), and you get what looks like a control sequence, like ^[[nn~  where 'nn' is a number, which is different for each key pressed. Has this device been left in some sort of factory test mode by Lenovo? Is there anything that can be done to get it to boot up properly into Chrome OS? i.e. anything I can do to get it working? Or does this need to be sent back to Lenovo for replacement? This was bought direct from Lenovo online in the UK, not via a retailer. Regards,Mark

Well I have been having issues with my monitor. I'll give you a bit of what is going on. I had a Toshiba laptop I had hooked up to my monitor, everything worked great. It then crashed, I got a new Dell with Windows 8 64bit and Intel graphics. I have an HDMI to VGA adapter cause my laptop doesn't have a VGA port and monitor doesn't have HDMI. So I hook it up and get it to work but "Input Not Supported" was floating around the screen. So I changed the resolution. The only resolution that makes the "Input Not Supported" to go away is 1600X200. Well its clear picture but I have the annoying black bars on the side of my screen. I have looked around and everyone says to go to the CCC but I can't find it on here and from what I understand that is for AMD only(if I'm mistaken please explain to me how to make it work cause I have attempted it). So is there an Intel version or how do I fix it?

When the boot process stops at a blinking cursor and never goes any further it's often the system files on the hard drive. Enough loads so you don't get an error message but it never completes the process. That could be the result of a corrupted OS or a physical problem with the drive. I'm glad it seems to be working fine now but keep that in mind if it happens again.

Turn on my PC the other day and nothing strange- come back a bit later while it's still on and my second monitor is dark. Still detected as if it were still displaying things.
I know the monitor still works because some times when i restart my computer it will start up with everything working, no problems. Other times it will boot with only one monitor working, All while still detecting the dark monitor.
I figured it was the converter as i only have VGA monitors and have to convert (one is display port one is dvi i).

I also have one HDMI but it is unaffected by any of this.

The display port works fine but vga to dvi-i monitor has the issues.

Can someone help? why would it display things sometimes but not all the time. why all of a sudden?

also all my graphics drivers are up to date. GTX 760

Hi,

Am wondering if anyone is familiar with the AOC e2450Swh 23.6" LED Monitor Black Full HD HDMI (apparantly it is 2ms Response Time, but have seen them advertised on the Web as being 5ms Response-Time as well?) as am pondering on buying one; have read on the Web that the software/Driver CD that comes with them is utterly useless, (a retailer here told me the same thing) and this is a big worry as the software is needed in order to tune the brightness, contrast, etc. i found a Driver download for this monitor on an AOC website but do not know if the Driver zip-file contains the software needed to tune the monitor. Will greatly appreciate if anyone can provide advice about these monitors as have already made a disastrous mistake by buying a Viewsonic VX2260s-LED 22 Inch 1920x1080 Black IPS LED (8 ms Response-Time!!!) which is totally unsuitable for my requirements (it only has VGA and DVI Ports and is atrociously poor at screening movies/videos, with lousy definition and blurriness and pixellations when anything moves reasonably fast on screen) and do not want to get burned again (WARNING: If you are a non-Tech, never let a salesman give you advice, because they are very liable, when they discover you are not a Tech, to try and unload on you stuff that they otherwise cannot shift!!!).

Hello,
I have a Sony Vaio T-series laptop (model SVT13126CXS) running windows 7. As of yesterday the screen is black...it doesn't display anything.
Laptop powers on (lights are on, fan makes noise, etc.).
I was able to plug an HDMI cable from my laptop to my TV and I am able to use the laptop using my TV screen (laptop screen is still black, but displays on TV works).
And the odd twist... this is a touch screen laptop, so I am able to touch my laptop screen and it makes clicks and moves cursor on my TV. (for some reason, the track pad doesn't work while its on TV display though).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can give me steps into diagnosing the problem, that'd be great!
I live in a small college town and there is only one computer repair shop and since it's a monopoly he rips people off. Charges $95 for a diagnostic (if you get it fixed, it goes towards the repair; if not, it's $95). Charged my friend $120 for macbook charger and it wasn't even an genuine Apple product!

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

Hi,

I am new to this forum and I am having some trouble with my laptop. My laptop screen was cracked, and my future brother in law removed the screen completely, and then connected an external monitor. Everything was working fine until he performed a full system restore because of a corrupted file. Now the screen goes black on start up. In safe mode a pop up states that the installation cannot be completed in safe mode and automatically restarts, putting me back at square one. Is this issue fixable or should I just throw it away?

I have an acer laptop/now desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium if it helps.

I don't have much time but this will help others. When does the display go black? After the standard BIOS post information when it goes to Windows? When do you get the error message?

I assume this may be a refresh rate problem but there's not enough info to go on.

A:my cpu shows black screen no bios please help

Hello again!

There is a chance that you have fried your motherboard (from trying to turn it on without the riser pins installed).

Here's what I would try (and confirm) before RMAing the board.
1. Reset CMOS using the jumpers (look in your manual). If your board doesn't have CMOS reset jumpers, then unplug all power, and take the CMOS battery out for a half hour.
2. Can you test parts on another computer? Are you sure your monitor works? What about that video card? What is it? Does it require a connection of its own to the PSU? (many do).

Probably a good idea to list your system components in detail.

Hey there,

First off, I'm posting this on a mobile device (iOS).

Okay, so about 5 minutes ago I shut down my PC. Then it kept loading "Shutting down". Finally, I closed the lid and opened it. Now the screen is completely black, with the power button, touchpad and f12 buttons still glowing blue like usual.

How do I fix this? Should I hit the power button? If I'm correct, my PC was left off at a full battery/half full. I also created a Restore Point today.

Okay, now I have BSOD. It says "driver_power_state_failure".

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 7559 connected to Dell U2713HM monitor over HDMI can't do 2560x1440 resolution in Windows 10

Hi JonoBloo,
The hardware on the system supports the 2560x1440. It should be a software issue. I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Press the Windows key and Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.

Please let me know if this helps.

The problem is that when I connect the two, the laptop screen goed black and the TV says 'No signal.' Pressing the FN F4 does not work. Also I'm not able to get back into vista on the laptop. The screen stays black even after unplugging the HDMI cable. I have to hold the power button to switch the laptop off. Not a good thing.

Any tips or advice?

Apologies if this post is in the wrong section but as I am unsure of the cause of the problem I thought I'd start assuming it is a fault with the OS.

I'm having a strange problem with my PC which runs Windows Vista Home Premium. Everything was OK the other night when I switched off but when I switched on last night the following happens:

it boots up normally and I get the Vista login screen
after signing in, the 'waiting' graphic takes longer than normal and I get no login 'sound' jingle
at the point where it would normally reveal my desktop it opens up to the 'Documents' folder instead
when I close the Documents folder all I get is a totally black screen with the mouse pointer - no wallpaper, no shortcut icons and nothing at all along the foot of the screen (i.e. no Start button, startup programs or system tray) so basically I cannot access anything at this point
I can access Task Manager by using Ctrl-Alt-Del and I'm able to logoff/restart etc.
none of the shortcut buttons on the keyboard will work (e.g. email, internet, calculator etc.)
I have rebooted a number of times in the vain hope it would return to normal but no joy. The only thing I can think of that was out of the ordinary was just before I'd finished with the PC a couple of nights ago I ran Spybot S&D and it found 2 suspicious entries which I immediately asked it to fix, which it did successfully. Unfortunately I did not take note of what these unwanted ent... Read more

Hi guys, I've done a fair bit of looking into this but I can't get a definitive answer. I recently bought a Gigabyte GeForce 750 TI OC Edition to go with my computer, knowing it would fit in the case. But ever since I've tried to install it, it has been a nightmare. It fires up, fans whirring and all but all I get is the HP BIOS screen, no imput commands and 3 quick beeps then it goes to an entirely black screen with a blinking underscore in the top left hand corner. From what I've read around I have to enable Legacy mode in BIOS, but since my computer is running the HP 7.07 BIOS I can't find that it even remotely supports Legacy mode. Then I've read that some HP MoBo's cannot effectively run a different graphics card due to age/restrictions. It doesn't sound like a power issue as I've already upgraded the PSU with no issues. I'd just love an answer to what exactly is the issue because it's driving me nuts and I'm pretty much ready to sell the card at this point. IF I have infact bought a non-applicablegraphics card, could you recommend one that would ACTUALLY work? Thanks again.

Hi BleepingComputer, long time reader, first time caller.

This is my first time troubleshooting a Windows 8 machine. I have a Lenovo G500 here with Windows 8. After I log into Windows, the screen goes black with only a movable white cursor.

Fortunately, I can Ctrl+Alt+Del and pull up Task Manager from here. I can open up Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, etc.. With an Ethernet cable, I can access the Internet. However, I cannot get the desktop or Windows taskbar running.

From a half hour of Googling, the only real solution I've seen is to uninstall the graphics driver through Safe Mode. I removed the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 driver and only the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter remains. Nothing came from that.

Anyone have a solution, or other troubleshooting steps I could go through, for this? This is not my machine, so I couldn't tell you what could have been installed to cause this.

Hi, I just got my Thinkpad P70 4k with Nvidia Quadro M3000M graphics this week, running Windows 10 Pro.I have run into a lot of issues regarding HDMI output - switching to discrete graphics disables the HDMI output and i can no longer change the resolution or scaling (nor does the Nvidia Control Panel show up). In mixed graphics mode the HDMI output works, and i can change the resolution  but after waking from sleep the image only shows on the external (HD display) connected over HDMI.I have to disconnect the HDMI cable to get video on the laptop screen and the reconnect it to get video on both screens.I suspect that the Intel Graphics runs the Laptop Screen in mixed graphics mode, in the Nvidia Control Panel I can only control the external display.    I am running the latest BIOS (2.03) and updated the Nvidia Drivers directly from NVIDIA (10.18.13.6256).  On another note I also had a black screen issue after updating the BIOS to 2.03 (no idea what version came installed) everytime i rebooted and had to disconnect the Bios Battery twice, but that somehow (??) got resolved after taking out a SD card from the Card Reader.

I am trying to create the recovery discs for a HP Pavilion g6-1d98dx laptop, but opening the HP Recovery Manager from Windows results in only a window popping up with white text that says:   "Welcome to HP Recovery Manager. Use this tool to get your computer back up and running if it ever stops running as usual." Which is nice and all, but it doesn't give me any menu options or do anything else, it just sits there.  The recovery partition is intact and the hard drive isn't going out and doesn't have any bad sectors.  Only thing I can figure is that an HP update may have broken it.  On most of the other HP laptops, you'll get a screen with a menu of options that allow you to create a manual backup, perform a factory reset, and create recovery media.  This one just sits here at a DOS looking window and does nothing.

Problem: Screen flashes black, then error message shows.

Details: Long ago, I was trying to play a game and coundnt do to graphics card. I got a driver, and I could play then. Only 1 problem. My screen goes black all of a sudden, then comes back on and shows a message that says "Somethingorother Has Sucessfully Recovered".

This happens about every 5-15 minutes, everyday. I'm 85% it's from installing the driver, but it was the correct one, because when I went to the site, it had it automatically check mine, for the latest version.

Also, lets view if the driver did not install correctly. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties. Click the tab that says Hardware than the button that says Device Manager. See if anything in this list has an icon next to it which looks like a yellow triangle with an ! in it.

According to this

XP and Vista are supported.

There is no website to try and find drivers for newer Windows versions.
I would not trust the unknown sites that claim they have a driver. Lots of times you end up with malware on the computer.

Find several old threads on this forum with people having problems. Here is one of the newer threds

Summary: whilst watching a video commercial on a trusted corporate website, the screen went black (though still backlit). On restarting, screen came up normal (graphics perfect) until the first Windows XP page (with the green loading bar) when there were green and black vertical strips 5mm wide, the green strips made up of four lines, a little reminiscent of that code pattern in movie Matrix. After the Windows page the green lines turned to blue, and then the screen went black (though still backlit), and the usual user login didn`t appear. Leaving the computer to run, the hard disk was active from time to time, then before long the windows logging-in jingle played as if we had logged in, the screen still black. After that, no response at all.

After problem: Laptop can be started in Safe Mode (from where I write this), there are still faint green lines superimposed. I completed a system restore but this has not fixed the problem.

The last few weeks: A number of weekends ago I attempted to open my mouse for the purpose of silencing the clicks, but on opening the mouse half way and looking inside it made itself apparent that it was not meant to be opened (without breaking the plastic case [mouse is GlanzHS by Sanwa]) On closing and restoring the mouse, I found that initially the left button didn`t seem to work, and then it did, problem solved. But then strangeness began: next time on restarting the computer, nothing responeded to the pointer or the left click on the first ... Read more

Hi Naval, welcome to TSF, I reckon the mouse related issue could be easily diagnosed. Try another one, not USB - there known to be hassle when the system isnt working properly - and we should easily see if the problem is with the pc or the mouse.

with regards the problem with the graphics, i'll leave that to someone with more experience.

I did not play "World of Warcraft" on my laptop ( mine is Compaq 6535b with the same ATI HD Radeon 3200 chipset and a ZM-80 AMD CPU )..Did you try to connect an external monitor to your laptop to see if the display/image is projected onto this external monitor or not? You may try to press FN+F4 or FN+F5 to switch the image back to your internal LCD panel if you can see the image onto an external display device..You indicated that you were able to play this game before, did you update your game, ATI Display Driver, Window update and etc since the last time you were able to play this game?.Try to press Window Key + R to bring up a Run Window and type in dxdiag to invoke DirectX Diagnostic Tool.. Once the diagnostic is completed, check the "Display" tab to see if all the Features inside the DirectX are Enabled..By the way, what version of the ATI Display Driver was working this World of Warcraft before?

The problem started as a HDMI-cable was plugged into my running Satellite T130-17E and the screen was closed down. From that point the notebook screen stopped working. When booting the windows start-up logo is on for a couple of seconds and just before the entering the desktop the cursor is visible on the screen. But except from these short moments there is no action on the notebooks screen. When I reinstalled the driver to the graphic card there was some short moments (less than 0,5 sec) when the screen was active.

I can use the notebook without any problems via HDMI to my TV. And when I adjust the screens brightness (FN+F6/F7) the black screen can get more back-lighted.

When I turn off the HDMI-output or plugs it out - nothing happens on the notebooks screen.

Can some of you please try to help me out as I really need my notebook to work normal again. If you can help me sort out this problem I'll be very grateful-

Kind Regards,
Jacob Lindberg

A:Satellite T130 -Black screen- HDMI works perfectly

Hello Jacob

Start your notebook with HDMI cable and wait until windows is fully loaded. When you see the desktop on the TV use FN+F5 key combination and switch to the LCD back.

Can you do this?
Does it work?

Confused - help!
I get black screen when booting right after splash-screen w. Windows 7 (64-bit sys. in dual boot w. XP-SP3) - but the problem is only there when i have a HDMI-cable attached to the HD4670 card (with or WO my Samsung PS50C7700 hooked up at the other end of the HDMI-cable?).
With no HDMI attached to the grafics-card Windows 7 boots fine!
(EIZO-monitor S2110W on DVI all the time).

So no HDMI in Windows 7 - or what?!?

I have the HD4670 card running on the exact same hardware in Win XP-SP3 (same machine, dual boot) - and it's working just fine in XP-SP3 (WO sound on HDMI though...). What is this all about - pls help :}

System:
Asus P5Q-Pro (BIOS v. 1613), Intel E8400/3Ghz, 8 GB OCZ PC-6400 DDR-2, Sapphire ULTIMATE HD4670 (512 GDDR-3) w. Catalyst 12.2, Windows 7 Home Premium (dual boot w. XP-SP3 on separate HD's). RAID-enabled system w. 1 GB RAID-1 storage attached.

A:HDMI on HD4670/Win7-64 = Black Screen on Start-Up! (works on XP-SP3?)

Had exactly the same problem.

I did two things to fix; First I lowered the resolution to 1280x1024 and it worked, but that drove me crazy, so I bought a Intel card with 1gb of video memory, which I'm told is the minimum one should use if one wishes to use HDMI HD 1920x1080. It probably would have worked fine with an ATI as well, but with at least 1gb of RAM.

The card I bought was a Gigabyte GTX 450 and I might have been able to go lower, but since it was only $90 I figured it was worth it.

If you have a card with 1gb perhaps you could give that a try, or try lowering the resolution and (maybe), color depth.

The machine in question was Windows Server 2008 R2, but hey, it's essentially the same as windows 7.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Heya. I recently (for Christmas) received a new LOGIK monitor to accompany my old one and I'm having problems getting them both to run correctly. My old monitor used to be using a VGA cable with a DVI adapter at 1920 x 1080, where it worked fine. I plugged in my new monitor with a HDMI cable with a DVI adapter, however upon doing so, the resolution of the older screen was reduced to 1440 x 900 (or something like that) and my new monitor became fuzzy, as in, everything is out of focus and the colours seem dark / unnatural. I've tried using a HDMI cable with the older monitor, where I can get 1920 x 1080, however it too becomes fuzzy. I tried to use the VGA in my old monitor as that worked previously, but no longer does. The screens have their proper aspect ratios (dot to dot, full, whatever you want to call them) and are not using overscan. Sometimes I am able (after hours of playing with CCC and windows control panel) to make one of them display correctly, however after restarting it returns to being fuzzy. All of the cables are connected securely and my drivers are up-to-date (as of 01/01/14). I'll attach a screenshot for further reference (currently i'm just using 1 screen as I had to borrow the second HDMI cable - I'll be getting another in about a week). I've been browsing a wide number of forums for about a week now and cannot seem to get it to work. Sorry if I'm being vague, if there's any more information you need don't hesitate to ask. Thanks.

A:New monitor with hdmi giving a fuzzy screen.

Something that's just occured to me - should this thread be moved to Hardware and Devices? Only, I'm not sure whether the problem is with the graphics card, the cable, the monitor(s), the drivers or windows. :S

A:dell inspiron shows black screen but power button s on

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Firstly check if you can drain all the excess power from the system .
Check if you are able to run the LCD BIST .

1.                    Turn the computer off.
2.                    Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
3.                    The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
4.                     The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Kindly private message the service tag to the system .
Thanks
Robin

So, this is not a major issue but kind of annoying. Recently I have noticed that the system tray icon for the wireless network always has that little red X and if I open the Network and Sharing Center it says "You are not currently connected to any networks." When I click "See Full Map" it shows a line from my PC to the Router but the line from my router to the internet has a red X.

The thing is, I am connected to the internet. I can go online just fine. Any ideas?

A:network system tray icon shows not connected but I am connected

Hello Serg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes a simple restart of the PC will sort the network icon for you.

If not, then a quick disable and enable of the wireless network usually will toggle it back with the correct icon.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello,

I hope somebody can help me out. I just put together a new computer. The problem is when I connect the monitor and turn the computer on, I don't see anything on the monitor. The light on the monitor just flashs.

There are no beeps and the computer is on with the fans working as well. I have no clue what the problem could be.

I have tried using the monitor with a different computer and it works fine. Obviously the monitor isn't the problem.

Has anyone experienced this before?

A:Monitor connected, nothing on the screen

Lots of possibilities at this point

1. Recheck all power connections, including any extra power plug to the CPU.

2. Make sure all jumpers are set correctly

3. Take out and reseat the video card (if there is one) and check the cable connections to the Video adatpter.

4. Reseat the RAM and check the position of the CPU, heat sink and fan.

5. If still nothing disconnect everything except, cpu/heatsink/.fan, video card and monitor, one stick of RAM.

6. If still nothing, repeat #4 with the motherboard out of the case sitting on the box that it came in.

Info on system components would be helpful.

Hi. I unwisely clicked on a Facebook link and was taken to a page which I was unable to leave. I finally turned off the computer and when I restarted it the screen just showed black with the cursor. After Googling the problem, I've tried system repair, system restore, restoring in safe mode, changed SATA to IDE, taken out the battery and depressed the start button, and changed the Boot order but none of these have worked. I can't access my antivirus/antimalware packages. It would be a personal disaster for me if I'm forced to return the laptop to its initial state as I've only backed up some of my data. I would be grateful for any help/advice. Thanks.
