Is there a way to connect a PC Tower wirelessly to a PC Monitor

Q: Is there a way to connect a PC Tower wirelessly to a PC Monitor

Hi guys, was having a discussion today at work about how I would much rather have a PC tower than a laptop, and it got me thinking, is there a way send a wireless video signal from a PC Tower to a PC Monitor?

Cheers

You can send HDMI over wireless. Some reviews of wireless HDMI transmitters here.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to computer, ah, specs (or finding information about the one I have)... so I don't have much for you to go on.

Computer is a Dell, with Windows XP Home Edition. Monitor is LCD.

A few days ago (around Wednesday morning) my monitor began to click on and off. The screen would flash black and the light, next to the on/off button, would flash from green (on) to yellow/orange (off). At first it wasn't that bad. When I switched pages on the internet, scrolled, or highlighted something on the page it would flash.
It steadily got worse, going from internet pages to flashing on and off right when I turned the computer on, all through the loading and welcome screens.
I thought maybe it was just the monitor, so I switched it out and hooked up my old hp pavilion mx70 monitor.

That monitor worked perfectly fine with my old tower, but when hooked up to my new one it... Erm, got 'static-y'. It looked like an old TV that had a VHS tape in the player, being re-wound. I know that sounds odd, but it was like spikes from the side of the screen surging inwards. I thought it was because the monitor was so much older than the tower. Soon the static got steadily worse, and I used it for about a day before it got to be too much.

I switched to Safe Mode with Networking on the hp monitor, to see what would happen, and it was fine! No static. Today, I switched back to my LCD monitor and put that into Safe Mode with Networking and no b... Read more

A:Solved: Monitor or Tower problem? Monitor is blinking on and off.

Video card is busted. When in safe mode, the video card's drivers are not loaded, so the card does not function at "full blast". It will not cause trouble because of that.
Dell model would help finding a replacement, but it can well be assumed that there's a PCI-E 16x slot for add-on graphics. This would be a cheap replacement in that case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121302

This is all an assumption on the most propable cause. The problem could also be your power supply or motherboard, but those are pretty unlikely.

Hi,

I'm connected to a wifi at home on my cellphone, says signal status is excellent, 54mbps, wpa psk security but I cannot connect to the network. My desktop pc is connected via ethernet and it is working. I tried connecting to a neighbor's wifi and it worked on the same cellphone. WLAN light is flashing, the rest are solid. I have a prolink adsl router.

A:Cannot connect wirelessly on phone but can connect wired on pc

do you have any other devices connected by wireless

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remove the wireless security
Is your wireless security enabled?
if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect.
if it does - log back into the router and try with the wireless security enabled again

Hi guys,

I've just bought a Netgear N300 wireless router which is running through a Sagem Fast 1201.

I've sucessfully connected one laptop(running Vista) and my Iphone, but the Acer Aspire netbook (running Windows Xp) I use around the house doesn't seem to want to connect. It works fine through Ethernet when plugged into the router but with wireless its a no go. The netbook uses a Atheros AR5007EG Wireless adaptor if thats any help.

Your help will be very much appreciated, its doing my head in!

The apartment complex I live in has unprotected wireless Internet, when I moved in all I had to do was plug my belkin wireless g USB network adapter into my USB port and my computer found the wireless network. I had to reformat my hard drive and now when I plug in the same belkin adapter, it doesn't find anything. When I try to set up a new Internet connection it only has setting up a broadband connection as an option, it won't even let me attempt to set up a wireless network. Any suggestions. Thanks a lot

I have recently ordered a Medion Erazer X6813 gaming laptop from Medion's own website, and it arrived yesterday. Everything set up smoothly, until I tried to connect it wirelessly to my Netgear router. It found the network with no issues and a full 5 bar signal strength, and I selected it and it requested the security key. I entered it, and after waiting for about 5 seconds, a new pop up window appears saying "Windows was unable to connect to NETGEAR", with NETGEAR being my network name. I have attempted to connect wirelessly to my works router, which has worked perfectly well, and it connected to the Netgear router when hard-wired, just not when trying to connect wirelessly. I am at a loss about how to fix this problem.

Thank you in advance,
Alex.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I am using a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 1030 wireless card. Also, a number of other wireless devices on the network are working perfectly.

I'm having the same problem as Stephen1125 with a few minor differences......I'm using a new Dell Inspiron 1521 with Vista. My internet is Verizon DSL, a westell dsl modem using a dlink di-624c router. I can run xp no problems too. The new laptop will not connect to the router or the modem directly or wirelessly, although it sees my connection as excellent, it will not connect. Here's the kicker: I'm able to connect wirelessly using a neighbors unsecured connection linksys that is at least 7 houses away - 2 bars low connectivity.
I can only guess that the problem is in some type of configuration with vista that stops me from connecting to my own home network.

has nothing to do with aol protocol...i have aol billed directly and not related to dsl service.

i have tried almost everything from disconnecting all firewalls, tcp6, tcp4 etc..... nothing seems to work. just short of buying new dsl modem and router but not sure if that will make a difference....seems to be a vista connectivity problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have had this HP HDX 16 for a few years -- there is a 'touch' bar at the top of the keyboard where the volume, video options and wireless on/off options are located. The Wireless icon is orange when off and blue when on. At the moment, the icon is orange (off) and i cannot 'touch' it to turn blue. There is a 'click' sound when i touch it -- so i know the pad is recognizing my touch, but the net stays off. I have had issues in the past but often closing the screen and opening it....or a restart has helped with the error --- but now, for the past few months, the wireless option has stayed off (though the rest of the bar, such as the volume, can be turned on and off with a touch).

I'm not sure if anyone has any idea---but any help would be wonderful and id be very thankful for anything offered. at the moment i have to directly connect (wired) to the internet.....but wireless is ideal for work. Again, please let me know.

thank you in advance for reading this and i hope someone can help.

So I have two routers one is Verizon and the other is a tmobile hotspot. Without the verizon router the t mobile hotspot router cant connect to the internet. The problem that I have is I can only connect to either one only wirelessly and not through lan. When I plug in lan it says unidentified connection and its limited. While i could be getting 100.mbps by lan im getting only 54.mbps through wireless.

Mod edit: Removed huge fonts.

A:Can only connect Wirelessly but not lan

There's no need to post in geriatric fonts, we can read the standard font.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

Hello guys, I too have a similar problem. I can connect to the router but can't get any internet access. I have 2 wireless routers on different ADSL connections available. My office laptop sees them fine and connects no problem, however my home Laptop ACER 3630 tells me that it has limited or no connectivity, is unable to repair the connection if I try to do so, sees full signal strength. I have tried to connect with an ethernet cable which works fine with my Dell laptop, but get the same problem. In both cases I have seen a message saying that it is trying to acquire an address.

I have followed the above instructions I get the following

Hi

I have a laptop with an Intel Wifi link 5100 AGN Network adapter. As soon as i turn it on through a special key combination, it lists all the networks available. So i try to connect to my secured network, but i get an error saying that it wasnt able to connect. Trying different wireless networks results in the same problem.

I tried resetting the router, but nothing new unfortunately. The thing is i just formatted my laptop and installed windows 7. Previously it had vista, and everything was fine. So again i dont think it's the wireless adapter causing the problem here.

I also updated the drivers for the wireless adapter through intel's site, but that still made no difference.

Please help

Thanks

Been tackling this problem for over a year now, with a few installs of Windows 7 that ended up making me go back to XP. Well now I have a dual boot with XP SP3 and Win 7 HP x64. The problem is that I can't connect to the internet while using a wireless adapter on Win 7, the wired connection works with Win 7 though, and the wireless USB adapter (Zonet ZEW2546) works on XP. The only pair that doesn't work are the zonet and Win 7. I've tried just about solution I could find, to no avail. I have an EVGA P55v SLI mobo - which I've heard isn't great with wireless, but if it works with XP it should be possible with 7 too. Win 7 is a fresh install so the problem is not antivirus or another program. I'm really hoping for a solution here, here is a copy of ipconfig /all (The Realtek wireless LAN utility is the USB adapter, and I am connected by wire.) Thanks!

Having worked with shortwave radio, this is a sure sign of

weak signals
interference from other devices nearby
reflection from nearby objects
I've always suffered FM reception problems at home as I live in a hilly area and the signals bounce about badly. Walk across the street and it's all fine, but that doesn't help FM, cell phones & wifi in the house.

Stick with the 2.4GHz wifi as it's better that the 5GHZ in this case. Consider a range extender or access point to boost the signal to other portions of the house.

Lastly, you can use an EoP device to position an access point nearby, eg:

Hi all and thanks for checking this out.

I've been using the same Motorola WR850G wireless router both for wireless and wired connection for the past several years without a hitch. I recently moved into another place and am now using the same router. Wired works but wireless, not so much. When the "View Available Wireless Networks" is pull up, the network is detected but the laptop won't connect. It will connect to other networks, just not mine. I was on an unsecured network before and have left it unsecured now. I eventually would like to make it secured. But connecting is my main problem right now.

Hi,

Last year I was having problems getting connected to one of my desktop pc's. 'John Will' offered this advice-

'Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Let's see this as well.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.'

Sorry for the huge delay but I have now followed this information.

Under Network adapters, these came up-

'1394 Net Adapter'
'802.11n USB Wireless LAN Card'
'MAC Bridge Miniport'
'Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC'

There were no devices with a 'X' or '?' '!' displayed.

Look in "device manager" in Control Panel. Post any error-symbols you see, if any, in the devices list.
Error symbols in there may be an exclamation mark or a question mark.

Hi all and thanks in anticipation.
Here goes :
Equipment - Tiny Desktop PC running Windows Me
- Toshiba Centrino Laptop running XP Home
- Belkin F507633-4 ADSL Modem and Wireless G Router

All I really want to do is use a wired connection from Desktop to router/modem, and wireless from laptop to router so both can use broadband internet.
So Far , I can connect both by wire, and both can access internet wired.
I can access router with either computer wired to configure router. I have disabled security on router, and disabled firewalls (McAfee) on the Local and wireless network connections on both Pcs for troubleshooting purposes.
On the laptop when I search for available networks it finds the router , but when I try to connect it sayd "Waiting for network" and then nothing happens. I have set TCP/IP to obtain an IP address automatically.
Running the wizard to set up a wireless network doesn't seem to help and I've tried rebooting the router and computers to no effect. What am I doing wrong?

Hi!

I have a HP pavilion dv5 laptop with windows vista.
2 days ago, shortly after i installed comodo firewall, the wireless
connection went dead... 'connected with limited access'.
and there are 2 other laptops that works fine wirelessly with the same network.
I already uninstalled comodo, and since then tried any solution
i could get my hands on off the web. maybe there is something i'm missing.
the network diagnostics gives 3 options:

-the network adapter "realrek PCIe FE Family Controller" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues.

-make sure your internet protocol bindings are correct.
ensure that internet protocol version 4 (tpc/ipv4) and internet protocol version 6 (tcp/ipv6) are selected in the configuration for the network adapter "local area connection".

-the network adapter "Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues
I checked the device manager and both of them are working fine. i evan reinstalled them just in case.

tcp/ipv4 and tcp/ipv6 are both selected and automatic.
host name .............:Owner-pc

Can you give some info. Make, model of laptop. Do you have an internal or external (USB) or card wireless? Have you used the software for the wireless to connect/setup the connection?

Recently I had to set my computer back to factory default thinking that it would go back to the way it was when I got it. However, when I did the wifi never lit up and everytime I try to connect to the internet to my router it says it can't connect because of some switch or code that needs to be pushed or entered. Well, I looked and there's no switch and I have no idea what code it needs. It wasn't like this when I got it and I really need to get back on my other computer.

A:Cannot Connect Wirelessly

Sorry if this sounds basic like ("I can't make taost?" --- "Is your toaster plugged in?"), but does your router have a wep key or some type of security? It probably does.... a quick way to tell is when you search for wireless networks, does it list your network as 'secured' or 'unsecured'.... Sorry if this sounds trivial, but it's a start...

About 6 months ago, i was moving furniture around in my room and whilst moving, my tower fell over and hit my carpet, and the case cracked. Ive been using my older tower for quite some time now. Ive deleted all viruses, spyware, addware...still didnt help. anyways to the point..I tried to hook up my other tower, which is alot better, but whenever i hook it up and turn it on, i get no reaction from the monitor. Ive tried unplugging and replugging it, and the dell symbol shows up on my monitor but then my monitor goes blank. Ive tried hitting f8 many times, but nothing comes up. Can anyone help me? Ive also opened my tower, cleared any dust, and all parts are connected as they should be.

A friend recently gave me an old tower of his with Windows XP installed. He did not give me a monitor. I was hoping I could use a VGA monitor cable and be able to plug that cable into my laptop and the tower but I am having difficulties. There is no place for me to "physically" boot up to that tower. Do I need to buy another/different cable to do something like this?

Don't even think about using the laptop screen as the desktop monitor unless you know exactly what you are doing, how the desktop was configured, etc. What you are proposing is having the XP desktop set up like a headless server, connecting the desktop and laptop via a crossover cable (or connecting to a network) then "running" the desktop using remote access from the laptop. Not a simple undertaking.

Buy a cheap used monitor and keyboard for the desktop - it's cheaper than replacing a fried laptop!

Right now it shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the center on top of where we would go to view network connections. I came home last night and both my internet name and password were changed. I accessed the modem's website and changed both. I then hit connect to internet. My xbox worked, but none of my laptops. This morning I reset all the modem and the laptops. All of them connect but the internet is slow and fades in and out. My xbox tells my my NAT type is moderate. I go back on the modem's website and it says that none of my wireless devices can connect.

Does this have to do with my port forwarding or do I have to manually allow each device into the network?

Hi
I am having difficulty connecting wirelessly to AOL. I have a Dell PC with Windows XP which does not have wireless capabilities built in. I have been using a Belkin Wireless USB Adaptor, which has been working fine with a BT homehub. We recently switched to AOL and managed to set-up the internet using a wired connection to my computer however when I remove the yellow cable I lose the internet connection on my computer. The adaptor seems to recognise the wireless connection and looks to be connected but the internet isn't working. I have tried restarting the Wireless Zero Configuration and have tried various network settings.
Can anyone help??

We traded in our old modem for a new one the other day and I am having trouble connecting to it wirelessly. It is in our office (which is part of our house), and hooked up to one desktop computer with an Ethernet cord. From that office, anyone with the passphrase and a laptop can connect wirelessly. It is protected with a WEP key. I have another desktop computer that is located in my bedroom, and I use a wireless USB adapter (Wireless-G Network Adapter WUSB54GSC). The computer can find the signal and connects, but I still can't get onto the Internet. It doesn't work unless it's directly hooked up to the modem. I never had this problem before with our Linksys router and old modem. Our new modem is a modem and router in one, by the way, and is made by Thomson.

3 out of 4 computers work, through a wireless connection and through a LAN connection.

So far I have tried:
-Restarting the computer and modem and router.
-The "repair" option on the wireless connections in Network Connections.
-I changed my IP address to static: 192.168.etc.etc. All that did was get rid of the "limited or no connectivity" thing, but I still don't have internet.

All of the computers (2 laptops and 1 desktop) are able to connect wirelessly and through the Ethernet cord, with the exception of my desktop. We get our DSL through Telmex, as we are in Mexico. It seems all the equipment works, as I am the only one having problems. My computer is a Windows XP Home Editi... Read more

A:How do I connect wirelessly with a laptop?

What kind of wireless card? Is it a 802.11a/b/g (either one of those or combo) or a wireless modem from a wireless service carrier?

A 802.11a/b/g card needs a broadband connection (i.e., a wireless router connected to a T1/cable/dsl modem). He could check out AOL broadband offer (who I don't recommend, but I work with people who insist on using AOL ).

If he travels a lot for business, I would check out Verizon Wireless Broadband Speed Wireless, where you would spend about $200-$300 on their PCMICA card and $80/month for service.

Yesterday I lost internet connection, so after resetting my wireless router, I tried to set up a new wireless network and connect. However, when I connected my laptop to the router via a hardwire, Network and Sharing Centre said that there was no network access and no internet access. After phoning my IPS today, and setting up a new wireless network, I am able to connect to my network and to the internet via hardwire, but when I unplug the cable, I remain connected to my network, but I get the same message in the Network and Sharing Centre as I did before, no network access and no internet access.

After phoning my IPS about it, they advised me to contact Dell, as it seems that my laptop is trying to use previously saved settings to connect to the new wireless network. In properties I have changed the security settings to match the network's security settings, but I still cannot wirelessly connect. Dell said that they could remotely access my laptop and attempt to fix the issue for a fee, but as I'm a student and a bit low on funds, I would like to avoid said fee. Is there anything I can do myself to fix this issue?

The laptop is an Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64-bit, and the wireless router is a D-Link (model unknown).

Additionally, I have a desktop that can connect to the wireless network without any issue, so I think the problem is isolated to the laptop.

(I'll add screenshots if needed, I need more posts to do so though.)

I am a PC user and recently someone gave me a Mac. I wanted to connect the Mac wirelessly to my home network (Linksys G router). Can this be done? If yes, what equip do I need to make this happen?

I made the mistake of believing the person at Best Buy who told me the USB-G wireless adapter would work. That guy was completely wrong. I called Linksys after I bought the adapter and they say they have no drivers to support Mac.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

A:PC user new to Mac wants to connect wirelessly

I don't know any MAC specifics, but for a wireless connection you need a wireless adapter and a driver that's meant for the operating system. An important exception to this rule is that with a Linux system you can often use a Windows XP driver with ndiswrapper.

EDIT: Forgot your last question. I suggest that you do a web search for "MAC wireless adapter" (w/o the quotes) and follow some of the links. And, when buying any device, read the box in the store or the online specs to see what operating system(s) is(are) supported. Important for Windows; about 100 times as important for non Windows.

I have a HP Deskjet 2540 all in one, and I have used it both by sub cable and wirelessly for ages.

For whatever reason lately, I have lost the network connection, so when I go to print, and the window appears showing my 2540 -series, it also used to show the network choice.

I have been on to the HP support forum, and as always when you have a problem, it seems the whole world has the same problem. Anyway, I did what a lot of the members suggested, even went into the "ports" area, all to no avail.

What might give you a clue, is that when I am asked for my BB network name or/and password, I carefully enter the two items as they are on the router, but it's rejected.

In the meantime, I carry my laptop to the printer to print, so any good advice is welcome.

My laptop is a HP Pavillion and w8.

A:Not able to connect notebook wirelessly

Run the "Intel Proset Wireless" utility, that I assume Dell preloaded for you. Else get it from Dell's web site. If you see your network, "connect" to it.

If you haven't already, then enable WPA encryption on the router. When you next connect with the Dell you'll be able to define a profile with the WPA passphrase and tell it to connect automatically.

I have that adaptor in a Dell Inspiron 8600 and a Belkin F5D7230-4 router, so can probably help with most of your questions.

Hi guys.

I bought a ZDWlan WiFi usb adapter for my pc which is in one of my bedrooms. The router is downstairs.

Now I had hoped it would be really easy to get connected... but no such luck!

I've installed the cd and then inserted the usb, the ZDWlan configuration pops up. I see my network available at 40% strength. Now I click on the network and it just says connecting... for a very long time. Sometimes it will connect but only with limited or no connectivity so I'm unable to get online.

Ive tried a ton of things, including trying to reset my ip through CMD, but nothing changes.
I wonder if its because I need to insert my WEP security key somewhere, but ZDWlan configuration never asked me for it or do I see anywhere to insert it.

I'm well and truly stuck and would be very grateful for any help.

Thanks

PS... I'm typing this from my phone as no other PC in my household is connected to the net.

Hi. I cannot connect wirelessly from my Dell Notebook. I encountered this problem after a power outage. Yet, I have internet access on our Home PC. I have a Linksys wireless router WRT160N. Among the error messages that I have are: "The windows wireless service is not running on this computer." "Computer is not connected to the internet" , Windows cannot find any network." "Reinstall network adapter.: Everytime I turn on my notebook, a pop-up comes up that states: " Your wi-fi catcher band configuration is not compatible with your WLAN card band configuration. Select yes to automatically change your WIFI catcher band configuration or no to keep your current band configuration." It does not matter whether I select yes or no. I still do not get internet connection.
Also, when I checked the IP address: I cannot find any IP address and the media state is disconnected.
I am not computer tech savvy so I need all the help I can get. Please, help!

A:Cannot connect to the internet wirelessly

Hi,

You could try reinstalling the network adapter on your laptop to see if this makes any difference. To do this open the Device Management console by right-clicking 'My Computer' (or 'Computer' under Vista or 7) and selecting 'Manage'. Choose 'Device Manager' on the left-hand side and then look for the category 'Network adapters' on the right. You should find your adapter with the word 'wireless' somewhere in its name, and if there is a problem that Windows detects there should also be a yellow exclamation mark in its icon. Right-click the entry for your adapter and select 'Uninstall', then you can do one of two things: you can either click the button at the top entitled 'Scan for hardware changes', or restart your laptop. Either way Windows should try to reinstall the driver for the adapter, then fingers crossed it should work again.

Failing the above the wireless network adapter may or may not have become damaged as a result of said power outage. Was the laptop plugged in at the mains, and if so was the socket surge protected?

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jon.

Hello all, i got surfing and ending up here with a somewhat big problem.

Today i installed Windows Vista ultimate on my computer and wanted to make a wireless internet connection, after trying alot of things, i found out that i cant connect to channel 12 and 13, 1 to 11 do work but i got a low signal on those, so i really want to connect to 13 wich i had the best signal on when i was on Windows XP.

I live in Europe, The Netherlands, so i must be able to connect to channel 13 and i was on XP, router settings are still the same, i did some resets and restore to defaults, but it was nothing different from what it was.

So im guessing that somthing is not right in my Windows Vista, maybe its region is set on US,wich was not the case, i went looking for the region settings and it was all set for The Netherlands.

I read in one of the topics here that, he had another computer with XP, while he was on Vista, connected to the network and this might be interferring, if i recall correctly.

In my case i also have a laptop with XP, connected to the network.

for more info:
My wireless network card is a Linksys WMPG54, and my router is a Sweex LW050v2, i got the Vista driver for the card, but nothing like an utillity where i can set connections like on the CD with the drivers for XP.

I hope you guys can help me, because i dont know what to do next

And sorry for the maybe messy english

Before I start I will post my router model and firmware

Model:Belkin Wireless N router
Firmware: V 3.01.10 (no updates available)

As for the problem, the wireless connection on the router seems to shut off randomly, I am on my laptop looking at a webpage, try to go to another and don't have a connection. My PC, which is connected through ethernet to the router still has connection. I'm running vista on my laptop and XP on my desktop if that would have any effect, but seeing is that the wireless light on the router is turned off i don't think this is the case. I have tried restarting the router, and again there is no new firmware to update.

One problem that might be occurring is that I'm getting interference with my phones, we did get a phone call around the same time it disconnected. But i don't think that this would have turned off my wireless internet connection completly.

Thank you in advance

A:Cannot connect wirelessly to router

Try turning off the ipv6 in network settings.
Goto your network settings/connections, right-click on the wireless connection, goto properties.
Inside there should be a check box for ipv6
I've noticed ipv6 can destabilise some routers and it's not really needed for small networks currently.

It is possible.. what are the make and model of his routers... some routers are able to become APs

Lately my modem has been acting weird. From time to time every device in the house can't connect to it and whenever I try to connect manually from my laptop it says that 'windows was unabe to connect'. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the signal since even if I'm standing next to it I can't connect. I have tried resetting it twice, the first time I was able to connect afterwards and everything was ok for about two weeks or so, but today it happened again and after resetting I was still not able to connect. Can anyone help me?

My E Machines E732 laptop which was recently upgraded to Windows 10 (from Windows 7) and has now had the Anniversary update applied. has suddenly ceased to be connectable wirelessly to the internet. I am using a BT Hub 5 and there is no fault with it as it connects wirelessly to several other computers in the house. I can connect the E Machines using an ethernet cable, and this works well, but any attempt to reconnect wirelessly fails. Could this be a result of the latest Windows update or is there some other fault such as a Registry flaw. I have tried renewing the network settings but no joy. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Friend asked me to look at his very old HP Pavilion N5435, so gave it to me. I thought it would automatically display the wireless networks in an around my house, and I could activate a connection to my router by entering the SSID. However, it doesn't. If I go to Control Panel, Network Connections, it list 2 for a dial-up modem, and 2 Local Area Connections, one being the ethernet card (which does not work; tried using two ethernet cables) and a second LAC that describes itself as "WAN Network Driver. No wireless connection is listed. Tried using the Wireless Network setup wizard, which said it completed, but there's still not wireless connection listed.

If I run IPConfig, it also lists no wireless connection, and the ethernet IP address is 169.254.101.152, which a Comcast tech. told me is an invalid IP address.

Why is the computer not picking up the wireless signal from my router (which is a D-Link 601)?

A:Solved: Cannot get old HP to connect wirelessly

Maybe it has no wireless adapter; maybe its wireless adapter is missing a driver; maybe its wireless adapter has died.

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters? What, if any, warnings or errors are anywhere in Device Manager?

Have you looked (physically) to see if a wireless adapter exists? Looked in the BIOS (Setup) for one?

Hello, I recently bought an xbox 360 and have been looking for a cheap way to get around buying that $100 adapter. Since my router and xbox are in completely different sections of the house, a wired cable cant be used.

I first tried to connect two routers together wirelessly through a network bridge. Having no experience with that before, i had no clue how to do it, so I had to look it up on the Internet. I read that you had to disable DHCP, and all that, but after buyign a router, the first oruter couldn't recongnize the other, and I'm guessing that the router I bought had no support for bridging.

So, now I turn to switches. I heard from a friend that switchwes are like routers, but made to be easy for these kind of situtatioins.

I'm just asking will a switch be able to wirelessly connect to my router?

I've never posted at one of these places before, so please forgive any etiquette related mistakes I make. I should also say that I'm not that great with computers, so it's possible I might not immediately understand suggests. I'm not at home right now, so I can't remember a few details, but I'm sure I could dredge them up later. Basically, this is my issue:

I connect to the internet wirelessly fine at home, using HP dv6 (something). No problems there. However, when I'm at my mother's house, the trouble begins. If I am the only one on the internet, it works. However, if another computer is using the network, mine drops out constantly and often refuses to connect for hours. Sometimes it reconnects and tells me it has 'limited' connectivity. When I diagnose the connection, it tries to tell me that the problem is with the wireless adaptor reaching the router. The network adapter is an Atheros something or other, and the modem is Billion something (sorry for the vagueness).

The router is password protected (WPA2-Personal), but I know that the details I'm using are fine.

The adapter driver is the most recent one possible.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks for your time!

A:Windows 7 can't connect wirelessly.

Welcome to the forum Hedonistic, I'm sure that when the experts see your post they should be able to help.

Could you help them out by posting back with as much information as possible, like the make and model of the computers that are using the connection, the make and model of the router, what operating system do all the computers use and what firewalls and anti-virus programs are installed.

I know this may seem a lot of information to give but in the end it saves time if the experts have all the details at once instead of having to go backwards and forwards asking questions, your problem will be fixed much quicker then.

While you wait for more help can I suggest you have a look around the Tutorial section, there is a wealth of information and problem fixes in there.

I got an Epson WF-2540 printer. I have Windows XP on all of my computers. I connected it to my computer with the USB cable, and set it up. I added it to my other computer that's connected to the network with a cable. I can't figure out how to connect it to my laptop that's connected wirelessly.

I go to "add printer" and select "a network printer" and I have no clue what the address is or where to find it. So I select browse, and it can't find it.

Is my laptop not connected to my network? I get internet from it, but is that just the modem?

I can connect to the internet via Ethernet but the laptop says no connections are available when I unplug the cable and try and connect wirelessly. Our other laptops have no problem. However, Xirrus CAN see lots of networks when the cable is unplugged (see below), including the Belkin which is our home network.

I have updated drivers, updated McAfee to DAT version 6836, run diagnostics, but Windows troubleshooter tells me there is a problem with the adapter, tho Device Manager seems to think it is working fine. Here are the ipconfig reports (with cable disconnected). Do you have any ideas?

it maybe a signal strength issue

can you download xirrus onto the PC that is working with wireless and post a screen shot

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

Hi, I'm using HP Pavilion dv6000 Entertainment PC (Laptop) with Windows Vista O/S. Recently my Ethernet connction in the PC damaged due to a lightning (device manager in the pc says Netwaork card is working properly and request to plug-in the Ethernet cable. But it doesn't work). So I decided to use a wireless router (ADSL) to connect to the Internet.

My PC says it has connected to a wireless nwetwork, but cannot establish a link with the Internet. I'm using a U.S.Robotics (Model 9108 A) wireless G router. I've got it correctly configured using another desktop PC of one of my friends and Internet can be accessed without ant problem through the Ethernet port on that PC.

The only option left with me to use wireless facility on the said router, as the only Ethernet Port is damaged in my laptop. Need your help on this.

Thank you,

Hey guys,

Just bought a Toshiba Portege and I am trying to connect it to my home network which my other 3 laptops and 2 desktops connect to. All wirelessly.

However, this one is causing me problems!!

My router is set to have WPA security and the new laptop is asking for a WEP key which is non-existent.

So when I try and connect to my Wireless network, it says: "This wireless network requires the use of a network key (WEP), to access this netwrk, type the key, then click Connect."

I tried entering my WPA password but that didn't work.. Durr..

It's running Windows XP SP1.. Maybe that is the problem? I don't know..

Can anyone shed some light please?

Thanks TG!

Hello, ever since I enabled and disabled sharing on windows vista, about 2 hours in, (this being HomePremium x64), I can connect wirelessly to my router, but not wired. I would usually have solved this by now, but it is being a real pain.

A:HP G60 laptop - not able to connect wirelessly

The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros AR5007EG & AR5007
We have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters for about a year, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines

I have a problem very similar to this but slightly different. I have moved into a new flat and share an internet connection with my flatmate - which ever room we put the router in though one of us ends up with a terrible signal.

I have my own router to use as a secondary range extender from my previous flat but it isn't practical for us to have our routers connected together physically. Can they be connected together wirelessly and then have the signal rebroadcast so we can both receive a strong signal?

I realise this would probably slow down my connection speed but I don't have a lot of money & if I could use my router instead of buying a new bridge I could sacrifice some connection speed.

Please help. I can connect through a cable, which explains how I can write this, but unfortunately i can't connect wirelessly.
When i go to the screen that is supposed to have a list of available networks, it just says there are no networks in the area/in range (in Norwegian), even though I know for afact there are at least 3. The problem is on the lpatops side because I have tried in three different locations from my school, my friends house and at home, each one with more than one network around. I tried updating the list, restarting, absolutely everything I could think of.

This has happened before, but I took it to a guy I know that is good with computers and he fixed it in under a minute. I never thought to ask him how he did it because that was the first time it had ever happene, and I thought the problem was gone for good, but then here it is again.

I have a HP ProBook 4320s running windows XP sp3. If you need more info just say.

Thank you for reading!

A:cant connect wirelessly bbt ethernet is OK

Try downloading the network adapter drivers HERE.

If you're not able to detect any network, my guess is faulty hardware or a driver issue.

I am running Windows 2000 SP4 on a Laptop. I just bought a belkin USB Wireless Network Adaptor so i don't have to be physically plugged into the network in order to use the internet.

The problems is, when i use the utility software, no wireless networks show up. The device manager shows that the hardware is working properly, and the software and drivers seem to be working; i just have no way of connecting because no networks show up when i search for them. I don't know how many times i have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers from the CD AND from the Belkin website.

This is a real pain in the butt. I believe that this is just a configuration problem and as soon as i figure out what is configured incorrectly it will be resolved. I have been working on this for +8 hours today with every resource i can think of and with the Belkin tech support and have had no luck so far...

If you can help me out it will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I can't connect my Sony Vaio VGN-S660 laptop to the internet wirelessly.

The router is a Netgear WGR614v6.

It can connect to the internet through the router if I used the cable.

I have tried the "Repair" thing by right clicking the router on the list, also, Winsock fix didn't work for me.

Unplugging both the router and modem then replugging them didn't work.

Weird thing is the laptop connects fine through other peoples' routers.

Another note is that some of the other systems such as my PS3 and Wii can't connect to the router wirelessly.

The router is within 30 feet of all the systems and has all bars green for signal strength but no internet.

The router has WPA security.

The router is about 4 years old.

I have a PC tower but no monitor for it. It turns on, can get power, but I need to see what is on it. I have an idea to connect it to my laptop to play games with. Like install the games to the tower and access them via my laptop. Is this possible?

How do I set up my laptop to connect to my computer on a wireless system

A:connect to printer wirelessly

Through the air waves of course.

You will need to describe your current configuration. Network setup, ISP type, modem/router make and model and operating system you are using.

I have an HP laptop running windows vista. I've used the wlan on it to wirelessly connect to the net for along time with no problems. Yesterday, I hooked it up to an ethernet cord connected to my router so that I could do some work on both computers at the same time. The laptop would then not connect to the internet. When I unhooked it and turned the wlan back on, it was showing the red X on the bottom right and would not connect to the net. If I click on connect to a network, it shows my wireless network is connected but has limited access. In Network and Sharing Center, its showing a red X between the computer and the internet. When I diagnose the problem, I get three suggestions:
"The network adapter "Intel Pro/ 100 Network Connection" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues"
"Make sure your Internet Protocol Bindings are correct", and
"The network adapter "Intel Pro/ Wireless 3945abg Network Connection" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues".
I've tried reconnecting the ethernet cord to get on the net but then it only shows three ways to connect, dial up and my two sprint card connections.

Any ideas?
Dylan

A:Computer won't connect wirelessly

I've been doing some work on the computer and here is more info that hopefully will help with a solution. When I turn the wlan on and go to the Network and Discovery, I see my wireless network but it shows "Connected with limited access". I'm still unable to connect to the internet. However, when I use my Sprint card I am able to connect to the net. So it must be something to do with my wlan? When I go to Device Manager, it shows the wireless network connection is working correctly.

I am trying to setup a roku and the main router is about 30 ft away. I put in a repeater and it helps the laptop in the front room but not the roku. I was wondering if i could get a wireless adapter say the WET610N and configure it on the main computer then just plug it into the roku. Will that work?

thanks!

A:Roku Won't connect wirelessly

it should work though it would say try to put an access point instead a repeater that would be more powerful
