# New Bios driver messed up

Q: New Bios driver messed up

Big trouble this time,

so i installed new bios software for my compaq laptop from the offical site (exidently i wanted to install new wireless network adapter drivers but i didn't read carefull enough) and now my laptop starts up i see the light burning and hear him running and everything but my screen isn't showing anything. From the biggining my screen stays black and i can't enter anything, i got a backup on a external harddrive and there is also a backup from compaq itself on a partition with vista on it. But i have no single clue on how to acces them with a black screen.

Hi, Thanx to shuttles indescript site I have killed my AI61 motherboard, I thought I was getting an executable zip which was actually the flash program + rom and after opening BEEEEEP

Anyway I have a eeprom burner and this eeprom sst39sf020 is right in the list.

Can anyone email me the bios .bin file for this motherboard? (not the file from shuttles site but the old bios file ai61s017.bin so I can flash it using my eeprom burner)

Or at least tell me how to extract the .rom from the exe file shuttle sends

If I get the rom file I will be able to revive this nifty old 750!

PS it appears that shuttle quite sending *.bin bios updates a while ago but if anyone can find ai61s017.bin I would be gratefull

Thanx
Ryan

Recently, my computer was running poorly and i had never updated my bios so i tried and i believe i messed up somehow. Sometimes it will start and other times it won't, sometimes it will start in safe mode and other times it won't. I have Biostar motherboard and an Intel chipset E2200. I have been to the website and tried to fix things but i'm not real sure where to start. Nothing i do seems to help and i am at wits end. I don't mind re-installing and starting over if i could reformat the hard drive i would do that and start over. Need help, thanks for anything.

My BIOS is messed up really bad.

It is a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop.  On the security settings:

I tried to run a few BIOS freeware clear programs, and I have tried to remove the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds to try to force reset the BIOS back to defaults, but still no luck.  I cannot boot to windows normally or into safe mode in anyway without it rebooting non-stop on the test screen.
i am currently using Mini Windows XP on the same laptop that is having this issue off the CD Hirren's Boot CD.
It is able to boot from a disk, or USB, but the not he hard drive.
Please respond to this ASAP with ideas on how to fix this issue or email me at:

Eeeek!!! I was clearing out some old files and I have accidently run (from within XP) a BIOS flash utility for my old AOpen AX6BC mobo. MY current mobo is an MSI K8N Neo2. From what I can recall, the utility perfoms the BIOS flash the next time that the PC is rebooted. The file is called ax6bc110.exe. I have tried to delete the file both from Windows and from a Dos box, but I am being told that the file is in use. I have looked in Task Manager but I cannot find an entry that relates to this file.

Any help would be great (once you've stopped laughing!). I shall be leaving my PC on until I get this sorted!!

Thanks,
Darren

Hi,
I would really appreciate some help/advice with the following, as Im pretty much at my wits end:
I attempted to install a second harddrive into my pc, something which Ive done before in other pcs without too much trouble. After swapping the order of the four drives (two hdds, plus a cdrom and a cdrw) around till they all were seen by windows, and in the order that I wanted, I turned the pc off (cant quite remember why, it was over a week ago), went and ate. When I switched it back on it wouldnt boot, so I got the cmos screen up, and checked that everything looked as it should. It did, so I tried booting again, and it would hang each time, the only way I could get out of the hang was to pull the plug out. So I did this maybe a dozen times, then had the "bright" idea of resetting the cmos jumper on the mobo. Nothing drastic happened, good or bad, so I reset the clock/date made sure the hdd settings were set to "auto", and then exited. It hung again, so I pulled the plug, and then Nothing. The fan comes on, and the light, but thats it. I have an AOC monitor that turns itself off onto standby mode if it dosnt get a signal, which is what happens when I plug it in now. Ive tried disconnecting all drives and just running it with ram, and graphics (its onboard, not a seperate card), but still the monitor switches to standby, giving a "no signal or cable disconnected" message first. Theres no beeps, no floppy boot if I connect the floppy. Jus... Read more

hmmm... you should get SOMETHING with just the CPU plugged in... even with the memory pulled out.

Your system might have died, and sticking in RAM into it might have damaged your "old" memory... speculating. I or anyone else wasn't there... and don't know anything about your hardware.

Try only this when powered up: CPU ONLY. no drive cables getting power or data to the board. Just the CPU, not even the memory - you should still get POST, if its still alive. (also, reset CMOS again too. unplug power - change cmos jumper for a few seconds then back to normal, replug power cord, press power button).

You can Reset your Bios to all Default Settings using the Jumpers on the Main Circut Board.

Usually JBat 1 Jumpers but check your manual.Otherwise take out the battery for 15-20Mins and Reinsert.

Make sure you have the power completely disconnected from the mainboard.
Take out the Power Lead from the Power Supply Unit.
Make sure you earth youeself first before touching componants inside the Box....keep touching the metal on the PC Box.

If you have the motherboard or computer instruction manual, find out how to reset the BIOS by using the jumper on the motherboard. If you can't find that, unplug the computer then remove the battery from the motherboard and replace it after five minutes. :grinthumb

So my computer wasnt running the best so i figured maybe I should update my drivers. So I went to the Msi.com.tw website and got to the Live Update Online. I let it update and do what it had to and then I saw this BIOS/Firmware update or something like that so i deceided to do it. I didnt read the Important note posted on the page before i clicked "Yes I would like to try and my own risk" Button. heres what it states.

Important! In order to flash the BIOS/Firmware safely, please make sure to close all running applications in your system before flashing. (Including Outlook, ICQ, Anti-Virus application, etc…)

So Yea. I didnt read that. and After I let it do that and give me and error half way through I think. But anyways I had remebered I had left Norton antivirus on. So now whenever I go back to the Msi.com.tw site and click that try at own risk button.. it restarts my computer now. My fans have sped up and make more noises. not to mention it did ask me if i wanted to backup bios on a floppy. and well... when i Build this computer. I wasnt so smart about buying one of those to put in.. I forgot all about it. So no backup on floppy disc. Now My question for you is How do I fix this? Get a new PSU? I mean it sounds with my ears like it is just dieing after I did that. and I read somewheres it does something to your PSU and restarting. Or is there a alternative way to load my old bios back to normal? Please help. This is killing me. My mom bought me a new graphics ... Read more

Hi all, yesterday I tried to update my Dell XPS12 (9Q33 mid 2013) BIOS to the last version (A08). During the installation, the laptop remained stuck in "EC programming" at 50%..I waited two hours but nothing changed and my PC was unusable: completely blocked, no keyboard,no touch and even the windows clock was blocked.
So, as I read in a lot of BIOS-related threads, I removed the AC adaptor and let it discharge completely..some users resolved with this workaround, and their PC's worked well after.
Unfortunately, my XPS12 doesn't want to power up anymore..I also tried to put the .hdr file of the BIOS in a USB stick and tried to power up with "end" button pressed. It powers up and the fans are working, but nothing happens then..Am I using the wrong procedure to repair the BIOS?

Good day ,
To help me resolve this issue I would ask your assistance by performing these troubleshooting steps,
1)Remove all the peripheral components from the system .2)Disconnect the charger from the system ,battery from the system and perform the power drain test on the system .
3)Plug in the charger back and use F2 key to get into BIOS then use F9 key to reset the BIOS to default settings.
4)If you are unable to get to the BIOS page or if there are any concerns do reply to this post with the service tag of the system (sent via private message ) so that I can look into the specifications of the system to assist you better .
Have a great day ahead !

Strange issue. Trying to fix a boot-up issue. After a good cleaning, the Dell Laptop would still boot up to DELL logo 60% of the time. Checked boot priority in System Setup and #1 was set to Windows Boot Manager. Changed the order to OS, and it booted. After sitting for a while, the DELL logo would appear again, no waking it, hard reset, checked the settings, and Windows Boot Manager was back to #1.

After messing with it, did a RESET. Same issue is happening. DELL logo stuck at loading. Keep having to change boot order to get it to boot. Yes, I save options before exiting. Restored default settings in bios. hmmmmm. Do a clean install?? And what is the correct boot order anyway?

A:After RESET, Boot priority still messed up in BIOS

The PC does boot to windows boot manager...

But if you keep have issues - do a clean install and then install facory dell drivers..

A friend of mine was no longer able to get into Windows XP on her PC and wanted to save a lot of digital photos. So I took her PC, removed her HD and swapped it with my secondary HD. (My PC has a primary SATA drive w/ the OS and a secondary IDE drive for storage). When I turned on my PC, for some reason it booted off of her drive I had swapped in. I wanted to get online to do some troubleshooting so I removed her HD and put mine back in. That is when the "strike f1 to retry reboot, strike f2 to enter setup" error message starting occurring. I have reset my BIOS and cleared NVRAM. I believe I did this correctly because each time afterwards it would attempt the automatic IDE configuration. Anyways, the BIOS is not recognizing ANY of my drives (2 dvd drives, the primary sata HD, and the secondary IDE HD).

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Hey there,

I just re-installed win xp pro, after having had repeated problems with the latest 4in1 VIA drivers. The system kept crashing randomly, giving me a blue screen error. All my drivers are up to date, and so are my virus definitions.
Ever since I had my config, I was never able to play correctly many game cinematics, such as the ones in Deus Ex 2 and Max Payne 2 : the image/sound sync is wrong, the sound being mostly delayed and stuttering. I never saw any thread about these very errors on these games' forums, and my queries remained unanswered.

Moreover, ever since I re-installed, all WMedia Player files or DVD files (.avi or.vob or whatever else) don't execute fine either. The image is jerked, and the system is globally slow in executing any task.

I've had some various virus-like occurences on the computer, even though the antivirus didn't detect anything, which is why I formatted my 2 hard drives twice already in 3 days. Well, after re-installing all the apps, everything is crashy again every time.
So I guess my question would be : can a virus be that smart as to conceal itself from an up to date antivirus, and survive a thorough formatting, like through the registry or bios? (might sound absurd, but I honestly have no idea)
And what could cause the video/sound misreading?

I noticed I had some errors related to the nvidia display panel, with the previous dv, so I updated to the latest (which was uploaded on nvidia.com yesterday, I believe). I also fl... Read more

I was having some problems with Windows 7 the first day after installation (such as the taskbar disappearing and having a black & white, rolling picture on the S-video port), and other forums told me to update my video card driver.

I installed the new ATI catalyst control center, and it wasn't working right, so I rebooted my system. When it came back up, it showed the mobo's logo and the boot screen fine, but when it got to the logon screen, my screen looked like this:
I ended up having to take out the graphics card and use the onboard VGA port to hook up an old monitor and do a system restore before it would work right again. And it still has the taskbar problem! help!

A:New Catalyst driver messed up my graphics card...

Would help to know what driver version you installed (link?).

Also looking at your specs everything in it is so out of date, that all things considering it would be better to stay with XP until such a time as you have a computer more suited to Windows 7.

Hello,

Thanks for reading me. I havea delle vostro laptop.
A friend of mine came back from travel with all usb sticks and memeory cards infected by AdobeR / Autorun Worm.
I kindly proposed to disinfect it all since I had gone through the whole procedure already.
While cleaning it turned out, as avast warning wrote, that other malwares were on those drives, namely Win32:Cekar ; Win32:Autorun-AIP and VBS:Malware-gen
After cleaning with a removal tool in safe mode, I rebooted in normal mode, to realize that my audioplayback from sigmatel card was really stuttering. It is not a specific device problem because my bluetooth headset and my external firewire sound card exhibit the same stuttering behavior, whatever program I use to play music.

This really seems like a mlaware of some kind, have you already experienced such problems ? Any advice ?
Thanks a LOT in advance, best

Hello there,

I have been having frequent BSODs with Windows 7 (32-bit) on my heavy duty work laptop (ThinkPad T510), almost always caused by the nvlddmkm.dll library. Having sought help from disabling security applications and various other resource hogs, I have not yet found a solution to my problem.

A few hours ago I installed a few outstanding Windows Update updates, which apparently broke the video drivers - nVidia Control Panel failed to open with the error message of a driver mismatch. So I downloaded an updated drivers package from nvidia.com and installed that.

And after that I started noticing that the previously smooth colors in Windows are now messed up and ugly. Look at this screen:

The color crossover is no longer smooth, it is garbled and frankly it looks horrible. I need to work with proper images so this is pretty much a dealbreaker for me.

I have tried switching back and forth between the 16-bit and 32-bit color schemes, but there is no effect. 16-bit simply disables Aero.

The worst option would be that the graphics card inside the machine is on its way out, but I do not want to jump to that.

Any help is most welcome.

A:Windows colors messed up after BSODs and driver updates (NVS 3100M)

Looks like a managed to find a solution on my own.

However, when placing some icons back on the desktop, they became jumbled. I stopped putting things on the start menu and desktop until I can get this fixed. Thanks. (I had a few other errors as well. IE and OE were missing, and 2 DLLs were gone. Those I have fixed though.)

A:[resolved] My icons are all messed up (not disorganized, the image is messed up)

Try downloading TweakUI from here on the Microsoft Website. There is a function inside it which will repair your icons. See if this helps.

Hello Everyone,
Right out of box my Asus had powering up problem. Sent it to Asus and they fixed it and said they had to change the HD. I wasnt a person to use CDs on daily basis..after almost a year to my surprise when i wanted to use a DVD it just dont even recognise,
Asus happily blamed it on me saying "i should have reported it right then". So i have tried uninstall of driver and reinstall.
--EDIT: On devicemgr..driver prop it says its config is incomplete or damaged. error code 19.--

I found the below info for a Win7...will same procedure work for Win8...???? Appreciate.
To Solve this problem, you need to reinstall the Cd Drive by doing the following

1. Go into device manager, right click on cd drive and select uninstall

2. In start type run and execute it

3. type regedit and execute it

4. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. delete the upper and lower filters - if one of them isn't they're don't worry - just delete which
ever is.

6. close registry and restart computer immediately.

Unless you are referring to drivers and not the bios then this,

is pretty much impossible. It is the CPU that determines whether you can run 64 bit or not.

If it is the bios the only place you can get it from is Gigabyte. That motherboard is so new that if you are having problems with it I would be contacting Gigabyte and seeing what they have to say.

When I boot up my computer the display on the POST looks a little grainy and there are vertical lines through the letters. Also a few of the characters are missing and or replaced with other letters. When I hit "delete" to enter BIOS its is completely unreadable. There is a lot of flickering and the characters are screwed up. Only a few letters are somewhat readable. When I exit BIOS (I know how to exit cause the exit menu is navigable only because I know it from memory. When I let the computer boot XP the same problems persists. The characters are all screwy as if its in another language. The splash screen graphics have vertical lines though the Windows XP logos and a few colours are missing. Finally when XP is loading up all I get is checkered boxes on my screen. I can still see my mouse cursor though.

This problem began over the weekend I surfing the net then all of a sudden my computer begins to slow down and the mouse cursor has yellow vertical lines around it. Then finally the computer freezes/locks up. I turn off the computer and try to power it back on but the it wont turn on after a few minutes the computer I tried again and everything was fine. Yesterday morning the same thing happened and this time I would boot up the PC but nothing would show up on screen as it was completely blank. After a few hours I try to turn on the computer again and I got the initial beep but then the display problems I described earlier happened. I thought it was a power supply... Read more

Hi, i have to admit i can't find such a mobo, maybe you are using the wrong model
ASUS P5GL-TMX/S
that isn't on the asus website, you know to be sure run a software called speccy, it will give you more info of you real model.
The closest model that i found is ASUS P5GL-MX that is without the T so its -MX instead of -TMX.
Hope that helps

I'm not sure if I was supposed to put the thread here, but if it's placed in the incorrect place, may a mod please put it in the correct thread? thank you.

Anyways, back to the problem.
All of my USB ports are not working at all, the Adaptor USB 2.0(I think) port that came with the motherboard does not work either. Everything is in place, and the 4 green lights on the back shows that the USB Adaptor was A-OK and ready to be used.
I tried using the ports to setup my printer/digi-cam, but they both are not showing/booting up.
Are there and drivers or bios updates or something to make the USBs usable?
(Bios things are not my cup of tea, I would probably kill my motherboard before I can figure out what to flash/update)

The Motherboard that I am using is a MSI K8T Neo2FIR. If more information is needed, I will gladly post it on this thread.

Thank you,
Jaeh.

Hi, there, I have an issue  in that my USB2.0 device did not work with the USB 3Xtensible Host contoller driver and the xHCI driver. I was trying to get into BIOS to find out if there is any options to "USB3.0 BIOS drvier support - disable", but could not find it. I know in HP DeskElite 800 G1 SFF machine, there is an option for that so I don't have issue with that. does anyone have the experience to disable USB3.0 in this new machine so that when Winndows 10 booted up, only USB 2.0 host controller driver will be loaded, such as EHCI? Thanks in advance.

Regards all,

I've recently built a PC for a friend. Probably my 20th rig, so no problem is a surprise anymore.

However this one's a melon scratcher. I inserted the Raedon 4580 and downloaded and installed the latest drivers from ATI's website. No problems or errors occurred. I went to reboot only to be greeted with a blank screen. Not even the BIOS will display anymore.

I'm very confused as to how installing a graphics driver on windows would have anything to do with the BIOS. The monitor will receive a signal from both the integrated and the pci-e video cards but it's display is similar to that of when the PC is in standby (orange light). I have no way to reconfiguring without display, so either the mobo or BIOS must be corrupt? That's what brings me here.

Here's what I've tried:

Replacing cables, monitors
Replaced new card with known working card
Removed the new card and attached vga to integrated.
Reset the BIOS via removing power and battery, adjusting mobo pins.
I've tried every possible input (vga, dvi, hdmi) from 2 different monitors on both the integrated and the pci-e video cards only to receive a blank screen.
Specs:
ASUS M4 series
Phenom II x4
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
Windows 7 x64

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm completely stumped and would appreciate any help/advice.

Thank you,

Recently, I discovered that the Security Processor Loader Driver or spldr in my system is either absent, faulty or not completely installed while in safe mode. While running the system in normal mode, I experienced a logon error whereby the "Welcome" screen persisted, hindering me from accessing the desktop. The problem must have stemmed from the recent installation of the BIOS - Lenovo 3000 N100/C200 in my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop after getting the notorious "blue screen" thingy. The "blue screen" error either came from virus attacks or the installation of the Intel Display Driver for Vista 32bit which my friend recommended to me before having installed the BIOS - Lenovo 3000 N100/C200.

What must be the appropriate form of measure for me to take now?

A:Updating my motherboard's bios driver. Is it okay?

Its not called a driver, you are simply updating or flashing your bios.

If you dont know what youre doing, dont do it.

There`s no need to update the bios unless you are having a specific problem that the latest bios will address.

Well after some time I decide to download and try the Beta driver 1104 ... but I really want to konw if this Beta Bios it's going to help me to fix that trouble of my ASUS motherboard P5RD1-VM not showing the correct ammount of GB after install in the system 2 sticks of 1GB each one or one stick of 2GB.

So pls. guys ...does anyone knows if this Beta Bios update helps to the motherboard, to recognize the 2GB and Not having any performance issues as lag or sound problems as the 1002

Im using now the 0903 Bios version this one at least show my 1.5 GB with no slow downs, but I really can use 2 GB. mem.

Ok, here's my problem. Sorrry if it's a bit long.

I recently had major issues with my computer. I found out through trial and error that there was a hardware issue. i just changed my motherboard and RAM to work through this, and the computer returned to semi-working order. I also scanned the Hard Drive for viruses from a friends PC. The computer worked, but ran extremely slow, with the CPU usage spiking high. Through process Explorer, I discovered that there were two issues, one a driver problem, and an overheating CPU (running near 90 c). I tried to update my drivers, to get back to some semblance of usablility, and in my wisdom (read: stupidity) I updated the BIOS, and essentially all the built-in drivers for my motherboard at once before a restart. Now, it runs quickly, up to the point where it automatically shuts down. This occurs during the windows load screen. When I attempt to boot from a CD, I get a GPF. Any ideas? If you are considering updating you MoBo Bios. Your Manual for the mother board will explain it.

Here is another consideration:
Is your board not preforming some function that you use? If the answer is no. You might consider leaving well enough alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I am running windows Vista. I have just reformated and then I literally started getting graphic card errors *Note was working perfectly fine before hand!!!!*, so I don't think it's the graphics card. After installing Vista *At this time I am running on onboard graphics*, I installed the installation disc that came with the card, and then the most recent drivers. But when I restart to ocmplete driver installation, I get BIOS beeps *2 short, 1 long* which indicates a video error *can someone give me more information on this*. Since it didn't work I decided to reformat again this time installing a later version of the graphic drivers 186, *which I know are stable from when I know I used before I reformated*, and still no luck. The thing again, which I must emphasize, is it was working 100% *no troubles at all* before I reformatted which was yesterday, and my display is connected and coming from my graphics card. I go to device manager and I get error code 43 can someone also get me more in-depth information on this as well as the BIOS beeps.

Much appreciated, and I hope to god it isn't my graphics card

A:so i guess there is no windows 10 driver or bios support...

Hi: I would be baffled too, as your W10 installation media should have worked. Now, in order to boot from a DVD in your machine, since it originally came with Windows 8, you need to go into the BIOS and enable legacy mode and disable secure boot. See this link for more info... http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03659945/ That would be the only reason I can think of as to why the DVD isn't working. You can also make a W10 bootable usb installation flash drive from the link below and see if that works... You would need a blank 4 GB or greater usb flash drive. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Why were you changing the drivers on a driver-complete OS? Did you think it's like XP? It's not. Nor should a BIOS be updated due to risk unless there is an applicable reason to do so listed, and a rescue method ready to go.

If you cannot get the F-key to work to access the BIOS to check the SATA controller and Boot order settings which likely changed, then reset the CMOS to see if that helps access the BIOS: How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS) [Easy, 10 to 15 Min]

I have an old laptop (asipre 9300) whose windows is corrupted. When tryig to bring it back by recovery CDs, I encounter ACPI BIOS ERROR. By googling, someone suggested to upgrade laptops' bios. So I downloanded a V1.20 from www.acer.com and created a flash usb. When I tried to flash bios from dos, I found the driver's MAM_V120.exe is not executable from dos. Where can I find an aspire 9300 bios which is executable from dos? Thanks, -Kent

I thought if you flash bios is like deleting the old one and installing the new...What I'm missing?..

Someone else will have to advise you on the BIOS. Most of them only require flashing the latest, but we have Dell experts here who will know for sure.

I can advise you on getting a perfect Dell Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Just read and follow closely the steps in the tutorial, especially about how drivers are handled in Win7 which is different than previously. Wait to see which drivers are missing after all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates are completed.

There are also Special Notes for Dell Owners at the end of tutorial to help you decide whether to keep the OEM Tools partition if it will indeed boot to run Dell Diagnostics Utility - How to Run the

I was getting a system crash with my new GTX 770 when I had a 600w PSU with 34amps on the rail.

So I upgraded my PSU to 750w (CX750M) with 62amps on the rail. The GTX 770 requires that it has 42amps. So my 62amps is enough.

But I'm still getting system crashes when playing a game.

Any solution?
Thank you

Power supplies do not require a driver and are not affected by the BIOS version.

You may have a different problem. If you can post the error messages from the crash here that may provide some clues, or you could post in the BSOD Help and Support Forum. Follow their posting instructions to get the best help.

I need help with this, can't quite figure out the problem. It's really... odd. In addition to other minor system problems in this brand new build, I have a somewhat recurring driver crash related to the common Driver Verifier problem. I can't find the driver myself, so I don't know which one or ones it may be. In addition, the crash most frequently occurs when using AIDA64/Everest to check my motherboard's specs. I can view most of it, including the hardware set-up, but clicking 'BIOS' or 'ACPI' to check those parts causes an instant crash. I don't know if this is normal.

I'm not so much versed in drivers or Driver Verifier, so before I did anything I wanted to come here. Also, I tried to upload my SF data correctly, let me know if you need anything else, or if I made a mistake. Thanks for taking a look.

Hi,

My question is: How can I determine if a downloadable application offered by a Web site is indeed safe (i.e., not malware or spam) before I actually do download and install the program?

Here are the gory details: I was curious about updates to my computer's BIOS and drivers, so I searched Google and turned up a web-site that offers a download that scans your computer to determine the current BIOS and driver versions, then provides a checklist showing which are up-to-date and which aren't. I ran it and it looks pretty neat (http:driveragent.com). It also provides links to download the updates. (Unfortunately, that costs about \$30 for a year's subscription.) It's not just that I'm broke, it's also kind of scary.

My question may be foolish, especially since I downloaded and installed the program that does the checking without knowing anything about it. But I'd really like to know if there is a way to determine how safe a downloadable application is "before" actually downloading and installing it.

JimB44

hello & welcome to TSF ,

driveragent is a very safe place to get your drivers from .....

i have a standing subscription with them for i do alot of repairs on a daily basis and trust them greatly and it is so much quicker & easier for me !!

now the best way you can get your drivers for free is to go to the home site of the manufacturer of the pc you have or the for the hardware that you have installed & to know the types of software you are using that require specific drivers like (Realtek AC/97audio & nVidia video & ATI chipsets & Intel & AMD ) and so many more that are used to run certain applications on a pc / there is quite a few that Microsoft offers thru the update site/plus many other trusted sites that you can get them from

but you need to know the specific driver that you need for you can get a driver that may look like the one that you need but rather is for a diifernt application and then you are then going to create a driver conflict and then you have issues on your pc and have to trouble shoot to find the issue

for you see some drivers for one hp will work on a dell , but then they wont for certain hp computers /then you have some dell drivers that will work on a hp or many differnt hps

then you have the differnce of having a laptop from a desktop

so the need to know is very inportant & can be time comsuming

i hope that i have shed a little light on the subject for you

so what drivers are you wantin... Read more

A:BIOS and VGA driver Upgrade issue, Aspire R3-131T

So did something happen during the VGA driver install and now you can't see any video?

If you power the sytem completely off, do you see the Acer splash screen when you power it on? If not, repair will be your best option. I do not think a BIOS update will resolve the issue.

If you do see something on your screen, can you explain what you are able to see?

Earlier today I downloaded and installed this BIOS and this Graphics Driver to my HP Envy 15 notebook, then restarted, where I got the message "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired. My processor is Intel Core i7. I can't boot into safe mode. What I've tried to fix this is: I downloaded the Windows 8.1 ISO onto a USB drive and used it to get into system repairChoosing the "Refresh your PC" option leads to the prompt  "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore", and I'm totally sure what that means. In the command prompt I ran "chkdsk C:" several times, which always runs very quickly and finds no problems, sfc /scannow,  which leads to "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation", as well as bootrec /fixMbr -> bootrec /fixboot and bootec /RebuildBcd (total identified windows installations: 0) which I don't think did anythingI updated the BIOS again from a separate usb drive, using this tutorial, thi... Hello,

Please somebody help me to solve my BSOD.

I have it for a few months. I upgraded from Win XP to 7, changed the antivirus system to Comodo CIS from Avast, updated drivers and did other things (check disk, win update etc.). After changing 1 module of RAM 512 MB, some crashes disappeared, only bsod at boot time remained. I deleted existing settings at Driver Verifier, and after that (I suppose that was the reason) the crashes disappeared. I didn't have BSOD for 2/3 weeks.

Now I have them again in the last week. The bluescreen view showed almost always different messages (this week): pfn list corrupt, memory management, driver irql not less or equal, apc index mismatch. Earlier: memory management, driver veriver dma violation, special pool, bad pool header. The address of the crash is ntoskrnl.exe.

It would be good to know, that is it a driver failure (if so, which one), or BIOS update (but I couldn't find a proper new one) or a Win7 reinstall? Or could it be the Comodo Internet Security?

Thank you very much for any answer

Gerrard

A:Bsod at startup - driver or Bios or Win7 reinstall?

It looks like you got an older version of the reports. Please generate these reports so we can make a full diagnosis: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

My first suspicion is the Comodo Internet Security - but this is just a hunch on my part. Please:
- uninstall the Comodo Internet Security
- install and update Microsoft Security Essentials
- ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned on.
- monitor for further BSOD's

Please locate any drivers dated 2009 or earlier in the list below. Then use the links below the list to get more info about the driver. Use that info to obtain and install updates for that driver.

If the above steps don't stop the BSOD's, please zip up and upload any new memory dumps with your next post - and we'll see what we can figure out from there.

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

When my Pavilion g6-1d21dx was still pretty new, Windows 7 started hanging whenever I tried to resume from sleep or hibernation, and I couldn't get back to work until I held the power button down to force the machine to reboot. Now I've done a clean install of Windows 10 32-bit, and everything is working well, except for--big surprise--resuming from sleep and hibernation. Windows 10 adds fast startup to the mix, which also doesn't work properly, presumably because it's a similar feature. Has HP ever explained the cause of this problem, or provided a fix? The BIOS I have is F.49, but the newest BIOS showing on the product page is F.48. Maybe I need to roll back my BIOS? I've seen a post where someone talked about moving back to F.46 to fix a very similar if not identical problem on a different Pavilion g6 model. Anyway, is anyone familiar with this issue? More details:If fast startup is enabled, whenever the computer powers up I get a BSOD and a restart. Usually the error is unexpected_store_exception but I also got kernel_data_inpage_error a couple of times. The computer seems to go into sleep mode and hibernate mode successfully, but when I try to resume it spins its wheels for a little while and then just reboots, usually without an error message. For now, I have disabled fast startup and removed sleep and hibernate from my power options. Thanks for any relevant information.

So a couple weeks ago I was forced to reinstall windows xp from cd to my computer. After install, I discovered that my audio does not work, and there is no LAN option under "network connections" (just the 1394 net adapter).

I googled a bit and found a lot of "reinstall your bios driver" suggestions, so I did that, but it's still not working.

any suggestions?

I think there is a ittle typo in #3 "do do it" should read "do not do it".You should not do BIOS updates at a whim like other updates. Good to hear you've been lucky but if anything goes wrong you might need a new motherboard. BIOS updates flash the chip! As said, you should only update BIOS when it shows a fix for some definite problem you are having. Mostly it is to accommodate a different processor and things like that.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
