ASUS - Touch Panel doesn't work?

Q: ASUS - Touch Panel doesn't work?

Hello everybody.

I got an ASUS N50Vn aka X5AVseries..

On the top of the keyboard I got a "touch panel" where I can control the volume, change the computers performance and so on.

But after installing Windows 7 it doesn't work.

Anybody knows what to do? Maybe a speciel driver I need?

You have to install all the acpi/she drivers from asus's website. You can use the vista or xp drivers.

(had to do this on an 1000he from asus, but I got almost all hardware keys working)

Hey there,

I'm using the onboard sound of my ASUS P7P55D motherboard.
The back audio connectors work fine, but I somehow can't use the front panel that I connected to the mobo (yellow cable).

Is there a trick or any setting to activate it with win7 professional x64?

I also tried changing to AC97 in BIOS, didn't help...

Check which it is that the csae has as they are wired differently between HD Audio and AC97,

It is also possible that that fpaudio block is wired wrong and neither will work. If that is what it is it will take pulling and reseating the various wires in the block; not easy but can be done.

Touch pad doesn't work if you close and open the laptop, sometimes the touch pad turns off on it's own. I have checked the settings for the touch pad and for what the computer does when closing the lid, they are correct. Tried booting in safe mode and still had same results. The only way to get the touch pad to come back on is if you reboot the computer. Any ideas?

I just purchased this laptop yesterday, 9/12, and it was working perfectly fine until today. I was working on it and the touch screen stopped working so I can only use the keypad. I'm wondering if something went wrong with the laptop or if it can be easily fixed!!

The touchscreen on my Yoga 260 isin't working. I first noticed this problem when the screen was acting wierdly. When you tap on your yoga a light circle appears and fades over time to mark or show where you tapped and when you swipe a trail or tail appears behind of where you swiped then disappears over time. So when I opened my Yoga these taps and swipes were appearing all over the screen ramdomly in a very rapid pace. So I restarted my Yoga and saw that the swipes and taps were still there. So I chose to restart the Yoga again and the taps and swipes dissapered. After that I noticed that the touchscreen became unresponsive but the computer runs as normal butthe screen is unresponsive. Before I discovered the problem I could remember dropped the computer a small height but caught it. If there's a solution to this problem I'm happy to listen! Thanks.

So recently my laptop Pavilion DV6xxx updated the OS to Windows 10 64 bit and for some reason the touch pad works, but the scrolling system i.e. the designated scroll bar partition doesn't scroll any more. I have the Synaptics Pointing device software and my system is up to date in drivers yet it doesn't work. Please help as not being able to scroll with the touch pad is a huge inconvenience.

hi recently my laptop has had a problem concerning a update from microsoft and has been restored to an earlier point before the update. Now my touch pad won't work so i got to connect a mouse every time i want to use it is there any reason it won't work concerning drivers or is my touch pad broken...

Hello! I've just installed Windows 7 Professional on my HP 350 G1.  I have a problem with touch pad - it works, but just as mouse (and also installed as mouse). I've tried to update and downloaded synaptics driver, but it failed to be installed. I can't delete previous version of Synaptic driver and installed a new one, because it's not in Programmes list at all.  Windows Update doesn't work as weel, if it's relevant.

Hi, Please help! I updated to window 10 this evening and things seemed fine. I dowloaded a few apps and restarted the system. Whe the system came back - the cursor wouldn't leave the top of the screen - just flickering aroung the top edge. The keypad works, as do the left and right clicks and the pointing device, but I fing he pointing device imposible to use and as soon as either the touchpad is toched, or the pointing device is touched at the same time as the left and right clicks - the cursor goes straight back to the top of the screen (where the close button is) As I am sure you can understand - this is all but unworkable. I have looked to se if the driver needs updating - it doesn't. Can you help? Richard

Hi Guys...I'm using the Lenovo multi touch driver for my X61T. With Windows 7 build 7000 the same driver when I wake my laptop from sleep the touch screen works. Starting with build 704x (i can't remember the exact build but it was the first leaked x64 build) when I wake the machine from sleep the touch screen doesn't work (both pen and finger touch)

I have tried to change USB settings but I haven't seen any fix. A restart of the machine means the tablet works again. Any ideas about a patch until Lenovo makes new drivers for Windows 7?

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

I bought a windows 8 hp pavilion touchsmart and touch screen worked. I updated to Windows 10 and it worked, only after I did a factory restore did it not work. I've tried everything with the device driver and another factory restore and it still does not work. I sent my computer in to get it fixed while it was under warranty and it was still not fixed. I resigned to it not working and I think that hp should have solved this problem before selling its computers. So we are blaming it on Microsoft 10, but that is not the issue when it worked until I did a factory restore and attempted everything suggested. I have a 350 dollar piece of **bleep**. Plus now my Mic isn't working and there aren't any drivers for me to upgrade to, anywhere.

Screen was cracked so I replaced the screen. Now touch doesn't work.
There is no "Pen and Touch" and "Tablet PC Settings" in Control Panel. In PC info it says, "No pen or touch input is available for this display."
Touch DOES work on LINUX as I ran it from a usb drive, so it is not a hardware problem.
I have reinstalled Windows.
I have another Yoga 2 Pro and comparing Device Manager in both I see no differences.

try refreshing your PC maybe the driver is not working properly
If the touchscreen does show up on the device manager try updating the driver from there. (it will be listed under HID )

i upgraded to windows 10, and surprise surprise my touch screen is gone.   no drivers, no hint of it anywhere on my pc settings,  i tried finding a link on HP's website to redownload the software, no such luck, you would think for such a common problem hp and microsoft would get there act together and provide a patch.  Any ideas anyone. thanks

Problem as above.
I get the following error if I try to enter the display properties in the control panel.

"Error occured while Windows was working with the control panel."

Unit is a Slot 1 FIC motherboard with a Celeron 450mhz chip 384mb ram, 80gb Maxtor hd, Intel NIC, Soundblaster value audio.
OS Windows 98se

Any ideas how I could fix this? It seems that reinstalling the latest drivers has no effect, I made sure to unistall the previous Diamond v550 drivers first.

I still have the Win7 RC on my compy and it has worked great, until today. My son touched the front of the computer and made is shutdown. Upon it coming back up, I noticed that my mouse and keyboard weren't working. Later, I saw that the net and USB ports weren't working. But, the issue is that they just dont work in windows. Hello, My laptop is HP Pavillion DV6875se with Windows 7 OS. It was working great before a month, but all of a sudden the following issues came up1. The power button of the laptop doesn't turn on/off the laptop. I have to use a detachable remote to turn the laptop on. I don't see blue light on the power key, once the remote turns the laptop on.2. The quick play touch sensative keys above the laptop key board have blue light in most of them. But its flickering red for volume, and no indicator on the volume increase decrease touch region. Though some have blue indicator, red lights....none of the touch sensative keys function at present.3. The laptop touch pad is unresponsive. It has its blue light, which doesn't turn red even if the touch pad is locked. I use a USB mouse as of now.4. Laptop has 3 audio jacks. One for microphone, and 2 for headphone. The external speaker doesnt have any sound, so i have to plug in earphone everytime to listen anything. In control panel --> under sound --> playback ---> i see speakers and realtek digital output ---> both show green oscillating bars when an audio is played. But the volume key in quick play tab is flickering red all the time. The laptop is fully functional. But it would be great if the problems mentioned above gets fixed. Sincerely

I have been facing this issue from the day one since I installed Windows 10 on my laptop (Dell XPS L502x).

Native Windows Applications like all browsers, office products etc. anything that is not from the Store, works fine. I can use Touch Pad scrolling with no trouble. e.g. on Internet Explorer, Chrome, MS Word, etc.

But the apps that come out of store or the apps like those which come pre-built with Windows 10 such as new Settings UI, Microsoft Edge. Touch Pad scrolling just don't work with these apps. When I perform scrolling the scroll-icon appears but doesn't scroll the content.

This issue is only with Touch Pad. External Mouse works great with scrolling on any kind of app.

Hope to find a solution here.

PS: drivers are all good on the machine and up to date with no warning or error.

Hi everyone..
I'm having a problem with my sound setup. I'm using Windows 8.
I have a 2.1 channel speaker, headphone and microphone.
On rear, I've connected my 2.1 channel speakers and on the front jack, I connect my headphones and microphone.
The headphone works fine but Windows won't detect the microphone.
But when I connect the microphone in rear jack, it works fine.
The problem is that I have a combined Microphone and Headphone system. Either I plug them both on rear or on front. I want to plug them at the front jack because at the rear jack, the headphones won't sound well in line it jack(the blue one). It used to work fine in Windows 7 but the front panel won't work in windows 8. please help me as this is screwing me off.
I use BIOSTAR G31M Motherboard with VIA HD Audio.

Check the connector from the Front Panel to he motherboard (with the PC powered off, reseat (unplug then plug back in) the connector. There could also be a problem with the front panel headphone jack.

Since this is apparently a custom built system, check the connection from the front panel. Many cases have both a HD Audio and an AC97 audio connector. If you have an HD Audio connector, that is the preferred connector.

Well I dont know what caused this but I can open the control panel but when I click on something eg. "uninstall a program" or "change the theme" there comes a message saying windows explorer has stopped working, thus restarting explorer.exe

I'm running windows 7 professional 32 bit.

Edit: it also crashes when I reopen the control panel when the control panel is already open.

I'm running Microsoft professional, Internet Explorer and have a Google toolbar.

All attempts to add software are blocked and the add remove feature in the control panel won't open. For example, I can't update my old version of Itunes because the popup for the update gets blocked. I know about the popup blocker in the Google toolbar, and how to handle that, that isn't the problem. In Internet Options, the security setting is at medium and under the advanced tab I reset all options to default.

I have recently custom built a PC using an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard in a CiT 2206 MIDI Case.
I have downloaded VIA drivers from the motherboard website I linked above, but uninstalled the program that came with it (It didn't manage audio very well and prevented my speakers from working :/ ; also my front panel microphone didn't work before uninstalling this program either)

Anyway, my problem is that when I put a microphone into the microphone jack on my case (front of case) It doesn't work and windows doesn't detect any recording hardware. When I plug a microphone into the motherboard, It works straight away without a problem. I really need the front panel to work for Skype and other audio recording needs as my cable will not reach around the back of my case.

When I click on My Computer either on Desktop or in the Start menu folder, a screen appears as shown here. But I can access these items from the Windows explorer icon on the task bar!!
Also whenever I click on any folder or drive in My computer window, the contents open in a new window and I end up in a large number of windows opened by the time I reach a file or a folder.
How can I fix this?

Sounds like you may have a virus.

If you can, boot into Safe Mode with Networking and run a full virus scan.

I'm spanish so my english is not perfect, I'm sorry:
I have a IV880-10 (viewed in CD) AsRock motherboard, "Intel core 2 cpu" , 4coredual-VSTA.

When I had winXP, the front audio panel works perfectly but now with 7057 they won't work. I had installed the last audio codecs from realtek but the motherboard drivers (from CD) are incompatible and they don't let me install it on the 7057.

I tried to install them with the compatibility mode (Vista and XP) , but after the restart win7 was damaged and started a "restore system".
So... frontal audio don't are my life, but i like them because they are very confortable to connect my speakers to mp3, ipod, and nother devices.

I'm a little newbie about this, so please can anyone tell me what have I to do to make my frontal audio panel works?

Do I need to download the 4coredual-VSTA drivers from ? (bios?, audio?, hdd?)
Or simply is the 7057 that in this moment doesn't support my motherboard front panels?
Or.......`[I really don't know!]

I am frustrated! I need help. I don't know much about computers but, I am willing to learn. I have windows XP
The microphone and line in plugs work if I plug in my headset in the back of the computer. But the headset doesn't work when plugged into the front panel.
I would like to have the headset work when I plug it in the front panel. I am working with a vocie activated word processing program that is fantastic. But the headset cords are a little too short to be comfortable when it is plugged in the back of the computer.
Any suggestions? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

I have the issue that the touch screen + front camera + back camera + windows button on the screen are not working.

I tried installing the display/graphics drivers but that did not helped.

I bought this laptop from Saudi Arabia and it is still under warranty but I am out of country so i cant claim the warranty as well.

Since you mentioned different issues with your notebook, I think that in this case its advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings just to check if all these problems are related to system problem.

Regarding the webcam: the Windows 8 /8.1 already contains the webcam drivers and therefore additional webcam driver installation isn?t possible. Additional webcam driver does not exist simply.

From my point of few the whole description smells a little bit like a hardware problem of the upper slide part where the touchscreen is part of.
The win button as well as the both cams are located there and probably there is some lose connection between the two parts (touchscreen and keyboard)

Anyway, as I said above, its advisable to recover the notebook to factory settings just to ensure that the system isn?t the troublemaker.
In case of hardware problems, you would need to get in contact with service available in your country.

Hello all,

I've had this laptop for quite a while, but never opened it up before. It had been overheating lately, so I wanted to start by cleaning out the fan.

The problem isn't the overheating now, but the fact that my computer does nothing. When I press the power button, the three lights at the top right (Battery Mode, FastBoot, and Disable Touchpad) A blue light on the front of the case turns on (a lightbulb?) and that's it. The fan doesn't spin, no noise from the hard drive, and the screen doesn't do anything (no backlight, no display.) Usually it takes less than a second for the fan to get spinning, but now it doesn't go at all.

I didn't disconnect anything internal, I simply opened the back of the case, took the screws off the fan cover, and blew some compressed air into it. Now I can't even get my computer to boot up.

If you have any advice on things I can check, or things that might have been 'accidentally' disconnected, please let me know!

When I click on "Back up your computer" in Control Panel->System and Security, I get a gui that says "Back up or restore your files" at the top and nothing else. The rest of the window is blank. No "Turn off schedule",
"Create a system image" or "Create a system repair disc" on the left. I've tried a reboot. This is on Windows 7 Pro Service pack 1 (32 bit - 4gb ram). I've been using the backup method for several years. All of a sudden - poof.

hi ,
i was trying to fix one of my friends old computer. On that all of a sudden sound stopped working. sound files seems to be playing ,but no output comes through speakers or headphones.
I have done all the basic tests, and evrythng is fine. When i checked in control panel ->sound and audio->voeme tab , device volume ans speaker settings i can't use, it appears like disabled.
Pls note the audio drivers(realtek alc650) are properly installed. I have spent more than a day downloading and reinstalling the drivers and googling to find out the issue. But still in vain. Now i want to try reinstalling XP, but my disks r missing , so i need to give a try in this forum. Pls help.

I just spent the last 30 hours downloading and installing all the update for 8.1 on my new Acer Laptop. Now the system will not shut down, update will not open and restore does not work. Also the sound system does not work. I've tried the recovery options but all I get is unending aero. Shutdown produces background apps still running and will only work if I physically turn off the power.

I'm at a loss to know what to do next. I did not expect to have these problems with a brand new system and by following all the proper procedures for updating.

I have an Asus K53e-BBR7 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
I've had it for 1.5 years. I didn't have trouble with the WiFi for a few months, but then it started acting up.
I of course factory reset many times, etc, and it didn't help.

There was a cycle: The built-in wasn't working so I put in the dongle. Then, after a while of using the dongle, the built-in WiFi took over/started working, and I could unplug. Anyway, this was a year ago. I took it to Best Buy and they apparently fixed it, but it acted up again the day after I got it, and then worked for a few months before I had trouble with it again.

My hard drive failed so I took it to another computer shop and got a new hard drive, and I think there might be something wrong with the drivers, even though I've installed/uninstalled, downloaded from website and updated, etc.

Now, here's what happens: When turn on my computer for the first time, or wake it up from sleep, the WiFi (built in) doesn't work, it can't connect to any networks. I have to turn off the WiFi antenna with Fn-F2, and then click troubleshoot where it says 'no connections are available' . It then goes through troubleshooting and and then has an option for "turn on wireless capability', I click on it and it turns on the antenna/wireless capability, and it works. This is consistent, I can always get it to work that way, though sometimes it takes more than 1 try.

Can you help me fix this? Thank you.

Are you using a hard drive with Windows 7 already installed on it from another pc? If yes then no you have to install Windows 7 onto this computer and please remember one license per pc so if this hard drive has Windows 7 from another pc, you cannot use the same disk to install new to another hard drive that is already in use on another pc.

I have an Asus U50F Laptop and the external wireless switch to turn the WiFi on/off isn't working. The splash screen will show up indicating I turned off my WiFi but then nothing happens and I still have a wireless connection.

I just got my new Asus Vivobook s400ca running Win8.1, a few weeks ago.
It really runs great, although I managed to find one problem. Since this is a laptop without a detachable screen,
I didn't really find any good reason for having the touch keyboard toolbar () in my task bar, since I was pretty sure I'd never need it. So I disabled the keyboard, which worked out fine but the toolbar was still there.

I then went on to try to remove it by using one of EightForum's .reg files for that purpose.

This did, as described, remove the toolbar, but apparantly it stopped the mouse pad driver as well, even though the mouse pad itself basically works. (no gestures or scrolling though.)

As you can see here, There's no driver running.

And in the ASUS hub, it's also impossible to turn it on. It just keeps saying it's off.

So I decided to use another .reg file that I found with the initial one, that should basically just rollback the effect that the other one had, but to no avail.

It just made the toolbar come back.
So I don't really know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Also, if there is anyone who knows what to do about that toolbar, please do tell! [:

Hello for everyone! My english is poor, sorry.
I've installed ASUS Wi-Fi USB adapter (model USB-N13) for LAN. There is Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Through control panel I see that adapter works normally and the drivers are the latest. However my PC doesn't see the adapter - the ASUS utility notices me "ASUS Wireless LAN card is taken apart from your desktop PC".

I have the same Wi-Fi adapter at another my PC with Windows 7 Home Basic, and everything works nice. Of course I changed these adapters between my computers. Conclusion is both adapters are working good. The same models, the same drivers. Actually I don't understand where is the mistake?

If this matter was already discussed here pls give the link. Or what are your ideas about this trouble?

As the USB adapter is seen on a different computer, but not this one one, you may want to check you have the correct chipset drivers, as they are needed for the USB controllers.

You haven't given us any of your computer specifications so I can't advise you where to look.

my computer was running fine last friday. I tried to start it on saturday, it says it can't startup and need to repair startup. I did run the repair but still can't startup. I tried to use system restore to earlier dates, it still can't startup. The other day, I tried to do a factory reset on my laptop, but it failed, and I could only click cancel. Now, when I booted up my computer, it goes to the ASUS logo, then a black screen, still backlit, with an underscore flashing in the upper left corner of the screen. I can access the BIOS, and have been trying to do boot overrides. Please help, I don't have the ASUS Recovery partition installed on the laptop, and I don't have any possible ways to install an ISO. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Not sure I understand how you could perform a factory reset if you don't have the recovery partition available. You should have gotten an error that the ASUS Recovery Partition could not be found.

You would need to get to a working computer and download either the Media Creation Tool for W10, or the current ISO from MSTechBench. You can use RUFUS to create a bootable flash drive, and then install W10 that way.

You might also want to check the health of your hard drive, to make sure it's not failing.

I am trying to use my CD-ROM drive and it doesn't work here are the list of things I have tried

Uninstalled and reinstalled the cd-rom driver it is a Matbleepa UJ-840D CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW in my HP laptop (Didn't work)

Read stuff about code 39 and removed in the registry edit screen Upperfilters, Upperfilters.bak, Lowerfilters, Lowerfilters.bak and rebooted (Didn't work)

Removed itunes from computer (didn't solve the issue with cd-rom player)

Went back to a system restore point that was before the last time I used the CD-rom player and it worked and that (didn't work as well)

Read a lot of different posts about code 39 and nothing is given after the above steps are taken if it still won't work except to reformat which I would prefer not to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seems many people with touch screens are finding what worked with the developer version have been ripped out for the Consumer Preview. Why did they do this? I contacted Planar the maker of my touchscreen and they said Microsoft removed the Control Panel for touch screen devices and they are not sure why.

The IT guy at my Church recently quit. He basically set up all the computers, projectors and LCD televisions himself. He linked all the functionality of these devices into a single laptop. When you log-on to the desktop you see different groups of icons that control different things in the Church. So, in the projector-icon group, you can hit the "screen on" icon, and it lowers the screen. When you hit the "screen off" icon it raises it. He also programmed the PC to control stuff like lighting in the room.

So, basically, this laptop is similar to a touch-panel interface that you would find at a conference center. All the functionality of the room is patched into the PC, so that you don't have to put on the lights manually or lower the screen manually.

The problem is that my Church wants too purchase a new laptop which is more powerful. Unfortunately, we have no idea how to duplicate the touch-screen functionality that our previous IT guy programmed. The laptop we want to replace may be a "proxy laptop" that is connected to another one. I don't know.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas...

As long as you can install the same programs on the new laptop, I don't see any reason not to get the same functionality. You may have to experiment a lot and copy files across, do some registry export and merges though.

I am not sure if I can be more descriptive as it all depends on the software used.

My touch screen clicks itself into the middle of the screen, uset to go into a HP window within the control panel to disable it but since upgrading to windows 7 (thinking it might solve it) the window has gone and now the beeps are driving me insane.

So I have a hp pavilion dv6-1361sb and had it for about 4-5 years. Recently I have had a problem with my laptop that I hope you guys can help me with. My Touch Sensitive Panel (Wifi, Mute and Volume Control) are not working. It seems like that it has been disable or something. I tried doing the plugging out the battery and doing a dry-startup thing. It did not work. I also formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the windows. Now you could do mate is to do a system restore and then set the updates to what I have in my pic and load the updates in batches until the one that is causing problems shows itself that means another system restore to just before it was installed and when it comes up just right click on it and "Hide" that update then carry on updating.

Myself and others have been on a mission to find a stylus that works with this 2 in 1 and so far not having a lot of luck.  The squishy tip stylus I had for my phone doesn't work.  One of those somewhat new metal stylus with the little round disk on the end works great on my phone but not on the inspiron with or without a screen protector.  I had a motorola active stylus with a battery that someone suggested, it only works intermiittingly but I guess the fact that it works at all should give me some hope.  What are the specs for the touch screen on the 3135?  I have read that a heavy cover like glass can affect whether stylus work or not as well as screen protectors.  I've found a couple of stylus that claim to have adjustable power output so they should work through screen protectors and glass coverings.  Gosin universal digital pen, overdrive adjustable and navitech are all supposed to be active stylus that have two power settings.  I've asked in the faq but no one can say if it works on the inspiron and the manufacturer says they haven't tested it either.  While I hate spending 30 bucks on anything like this without knowing 100 percent that it will work, I ordered one of the navitech off amazon because I will be able to return it if I want to.  I have poured over everything I can find about this machine but nowhere does anyone give any details on the touch screen.  I know this isn't intended to be a... The screen is exactly that - a multi-point touch panel.  It does not have the digitizer that's required for use with an active stylus.  
This is not a matter of there being a layer over the screen - there is, but it's not why your stylus isn't working.  Basically, a stylus that works will do anything your finger can do - and no more.  
What you're looking for requires a digitizer.  If you're looking for that in a small system, you need to look at something like a Surface Pro 4 or equivalent from another manufacturer.

I have just recently purchased the ASUS S200E Note book with Windows8 operating system. Not liking touch pads I purchased a Logitech mini wireless mouse.
The problem I am having is that when typing text the cursor has a mind of its own. It will jump wherever it likes to amongst previously typed text, outside of the text perhaps to another command etc and it is driving me crazy.
The last time I had such a problem with a new laptop it was resolved by turning off the touch pad. I have used information from the net in how to do this in Windows8 and having tried the suggestions e.g. control panel, hardware and sound, mouse, settings etc I can't find anyway of turning the touch pad off.
Can anyone help me please fn+f9 doesn't work on this model either.

I had the touch pad disabled on my asus N76V when an external mouse was connected - which is 99% of the time. It was pretty simple in my mouse settings.
Since installing W10 it no longer shuts off. I even went so far as following an instruction to go into startup and disabling a setting.
When i use the key board I continuously move the pointer all over the key board and at time click it by accident.

I have a Packard Bell EasyNote TJ68 Windows 7 with a touch panel control on the keyboard. With the touch panel it is possible to toggle Bluetooth on/off, wireless on/off, voume up/dn etc.

When the touch panel is in use, an icon appears on the screen momentarily. These icons are now missing. The touch panel is functional and the windows equivalent icons do appear correctly in the taskbar but the icons that used to flash up when using the touch pad have disappeared.

Anybody know how to find where these are turned off? What program controls the touch panel icons?

Hi, my XPS 15 9530 touch screen is not working anymore. The wire for the touch screen which emanates from the display panel and goes into the motherboard  seems to have burnt at a point. I am not sure why it burnt suddenly . Is there way I can change this wire without replacing the whole display unit?
Any help or suggestion is highly appreciated..

Unfortunately, no - the assembly is fused together with adhesive.  It's very unlikely you would be able to disassemble the glass without breaking it, and even less likely you'll end up with a working assembly when you re-assemble it.
There are a couple of possible causes -- a shorted wire from being crimped together is one.  A second one would be a power fault with the mainboard that sent too much power through the cable and caused it to overheat.  You may want to refer the repair to a professional so they can determine what happened before you spend a few hundred dollars on a screen only to find out you need to spend that much or more on a mainboard replacement as well.

Don't get into the habit of updating drivers just because they exist. New drivers can often introduce problems where none existed before. Update a driver only if it promises to fix a specific problem that you are having.

I am also using an external mouse
According to the user manual, I can disable the touch pad using the Fn and F9 keys
I tried pressing the keys together and I can’t disable touch pad.
The manual also says that I can go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Mouse and under the ELAN tab click on the “Disable when external USB mouse plug in”
But I don’t have the tab. I tried to uninstall the external mouse, reboot, and the tab is still not there.
Is there any other way to disable the touch pad (without the use of a hammer)

Go to the Asus website and reinstall the ELAN touchpad software, that should get you the disable option under the mouse section. If the hot key doesn't work then reinstall the "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities" software under the Utilities section.

I have an ASUS tablet that I don't know the model nor is it listed anywhere on the tablet. it originally had a detachable keyboard but the guy that gave it to me didn't have it. according to device manager, it has a generic touch screen driver. I have frequent unresponsiveness and sporadic automatic touches a with the touch screen, and I think it may be due to the generic touch screen drivers. If I had the ASUS one, I think it would work better. Device manager reports the hardware ID as: HID\VEN_ATML&DEV_1000&Col01 but no search engine can find it. Google had only two pages of results, all of which were dodgy. Many others like Yahoo only had one page of results of the same dodgy or other dodgy results. I was wondering if you can lead me to the right one. You have been so helpful with finding me drivers before so I am sure it would be no problem.

On my Asus R2H I have build 7057 installed.

Every now and then (I haven't pin pointed if it is a specific event that triggers is) my touch screen stops working as touch screen. It does everything, it only doesn't respond to touch.
If I restart, put the machine to standby, shut down and start it again everything is fine again.

I have no clue what might have been changed recently!

Does somebody recognize this?

A few days ago I updated the BIOS for my Asus Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard. The BIOS update went smoothly, but I noticed that the OC Panel display does not show the CPU Bclk freq anymore. I was running in normal mode at the time and Bclk readout was 100.0 MHZ. Now the display shows 0. The same with the CPU ratio. It was at 42, now reads zero.
But, in BIOS the CPU reads at 100.0 MHZ, and the ratio is 4.2. The other read outs on the display, such as fan speed, are there and show correct readings. Just not showing the CPU stats.
Restarting the PC and turning the display off and back on did`nt bring the CPU stats back either.
Anyone know what happened?

I currently have 2 Asus VE258Q 25" monitors, one with a cracked screen, which lead to me buying another as a replacement instead of sending it in for repairs... Reason for that being is I've contacted Asus 3 times now:

Call number one informed me that it would cost approximately 170 dollars to replace the panel, plus the cost of shipping both ways. Since I didn't want to fork over nearly as much as it cost to purchase it (200 on black friday) at the time, I waited for a few months.

Call number two, to try and set up a service request, and then they informed me it would cost 250(!) dollars, plus the cost of shipping both ways. Instead of that, I just bought another one for 236 off Newegg (same place I bought it the first time). The only issue is, that still leaves me with an otherwise pristine condition monitor, that I would rather fix than throw away/recycle.

Call number three, since I had been given two different prices, I figured someone just didn't know what they were talking about, so this time I had been told that it was a "gray area", and that it would have to be sent in first in order to give me an estimate, which is ridiculous when I'm forking over for shipping. I asked if I could just purchase an LCD panel from them so I could replace it myself, and of course the answer is nadda...

I have a fairly serious issue on my hands.
2 days ago, my computer decided to stop taking input from anything (mouse, keyboard, and touch). I am unable to do anything past the Windows splash screen. Going into the BIOS shows that the computer is working normally, and my mouse, keyboard and touch screen work there without issues. I really hope I can get this thing working again, as I haven't backed up files to a cloud. Please help ASAP as I need my PC running!

Hi everybody,I was quite happy with my Lenovo Ultrabook, at least until today.Since this is not the first post about this topic, I want to assure you that I have googled for it at least for some time,but haven't found any solutions / the exact same problem.What happened:I was gaming with a few friends, when suddenly the audio driver seemed to crash, meaning in couldn't hear anything, anywhere.Thinking a quick restart could resolve this issue, I tried to simply reboot the laptop, but it somehow didn't start up.So far the same as in many other posts, although:When I pressed the power button for a few seconds to completely shut it off, and started it again,I noticed, that the screen is somehow "flickering" on and off. It can barely be seen (imagine it turned off, and then the background LEDs turned on on the lowest brightness), with the duration of close to 1 second.If I let the laptop run for awhile, at some point even the CPU fan starts running, although only for 1-2 minutes.Besides, the Power LED is permanently on, but no background lighting for the keyboard (which was turned on before I shut down).Also, I already tried opening the laptop, disconnecting the battery (and the round battery, whatever this one is called), disconnecting the SSD.The one thing I couldn't find was the connection of the display (I'm not sure if it is only this greyish cable on the right side, because there are also some other cables running towards the display, which i couldn't disconnect).After disco... Since you already done power draining and reseating parts , would pressing the caps lock and nulock show equivalent LED indicator light coming on and off?
Would there be any faint display on screen by checking with a penlight? how about on an external monitor? 
Try removing the harddrive and ram and turning it back on . 
Is there any beep codes ? any buzzing electrical noise?
Remove the battery and unplug the adapter , Would there be any unusual burnt smell ? Any warm areas specially near the coin cell battery you described?
You can call in lenovo tech support as it may be a no post (power on self test) issue .

I have a Maxtor One Touch 200 Gb connected to my PC via a firewire.
Today, quite suddenly it has decided not to work. Two things are happening though.

The light comes on, I hear it trying to come on as usual, but, when I go to windows explorer to grab a file, the error says "The Disk in Drive H is not formatted. Would you like eto format now?" another error I get is along the lines of "Parameter is not correct"

I have HP Windows XP SP2 almost four years old. At the time of purchase I was like the only person I know with a gig of ram, (I had it built). It's running well.

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

I have an ASUS notebook running windows 7 64-bit. I am using the QuietOffice power profile, however the screensaver won't kick in no matter what I do, and the display does not turn off even though I set it to be after 5-minutes of inactivity. I don't know if there is something running in the background... I have turned off my usb wireless mouse, and nothing....

Any ideas?

This is another case of factory bloatware interfering - in this case a useless factory utility overriding Win7's superior built-in version.

Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.

I have a 4y old Sony VAIO (VGN-NS11J) that stopped working today morning after making a whirring noise

Repeated attempts to restart failed and after many attempts, I managed to get to the Startup Repair mode - after a long time, startup repair says it failed to automatically repair the problem

I managed to run system restore but after a while I got the following message: "System restore failed due to an unspecified error. The disk strucgture is corrupted and unreadable (0X80070571)

My laptop did not come with a Windows Vista CD/Recovery disk

My first priority is to recover a few files in the laptop - if I am able to do this, then I dont mind junking the laptop

Since this is an old laptop, I would prefer not to use an expensive professional to recover the data

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

I have a sony vaio PCV-RX950 (asus P4S533-VL board) which I am trying to relocate to a bigger generic chieftec case, but I am having trouble figuring out the connections for the front panel; I found the manuals for P4S533-MX, P4S533-VM, P4S533-X, P4S533-E, and plain P4S533 but their pinouts diagrams r different than what’s shown on the P4S533-VL.

I've got a friend that is moving his P5LP-LE from it's existing home in an HP computer to an Antec tower. Problem is, the pinouts on the front right corner for Power, IDE, etc, are very hard to read and he's having difficulty trying to find a site with the labelling for the pinouts. It's on the motherboard, but very hard to read. If anyone knows of what pins to plug power switch, ide led, and power led into (along with anything else that plugs up front) please let me know. Hi everyone,

I am replacing a MB in a system that would not recognize the hard drive any longer. I tested both the drive and the drive cable in a different machine and they worked fine.

The board I am installing is an Asus P4S800D-X. I thought that I had everything connected correctly but was not totally sure about the front panel connections. When I turn it on the cpu fan runs and it sounds like the HDD is spinning, but no video at all. The power light on the monitor is a steady green blink on and off. Whether the power on the computer is turned on or off is not affecting what the green light is doing on the monitor.

I'm not positive that I have all these front panel connections correct. It's a generic midtower case. Here is the pdf manual that shows the panel connections on page 1-20 for the new board.

The following is what the writing says on each of the actual connectors in the case that I'm trying to match up with correct connection on the board.

1. Orange and cream wires with a single connector with 2 holes says "HDD LED + - "
(should this one be connected to the one in the manual that says "Hard disk activity LED"?
2. Green and black wires with a single connector with 2 holes says "M/B SW"
(should this one be connected to the one in the manual that says "ATX Power Switch"?)

Kay so I have Windows 7 64-bit and am using iTunes version
My 8GB iPod Nano syncs fine, Windows 7 recognizes it as an iPod Nano when I check "Devices and Printers". It works with iTunes, opens up right away as it's supposed to and I can put music on it.

Now my 32GB iPod Touch is a different matter. Using the same usb port and cable, I plug in my iPod Touch and iTunes opens and attempts to sync. Eventually, it stops syncing, then I see it in iTunes as my what I named it, capacity at the top is 29.28 GB. Weird thing, at the bottom, capacity is only 4 GB (about 2 GB left)!?!?

Then I check "Devices and Printers" and it shows under "Unspecified" - Apple Mobile Device USB Drive. Under properties I see model says "iPod". It doesn't show any errors with it, other than the fact this isn't how it shows up for my iPod Nano, and I believe it's not syncing correctly. It charges fine, by the way, while plugged in.

iTunes still shows my iPod Touch attached, I can see all the files and music on it, but it won't sync or transfer any new files.

I'd like to get this working properly. Any suggestions?

I bought the Spro4 last year after consiering various tablets. It allows me to run my photo apps natively without the limitations of a tablet OS. I can tether my cameras to it over USB so my clients can see proper pictures on an amazing screen.
One thing that bugs me I use Chrome as my browser of choice. It very often refuses to accept a touch from pen of finger, treating it as a right-click - showing the pop-up menu. If I minimise Chrome and bring it back, that sometimes fixes it, sometimes it takes a few goes, sometimes it requires closing Chrom and relaunching.
I have set the Chrome://flags Enable Touch Events to Enabled.
Any ideas?

Going by a couple of searches on the internet it appears to be a common issue and it also appears to be a bit random. Some people have issues while others have none.
Have you tried re-installing Chrome to see if that fixes it?

I have a Samsung series 7 Slate, which works great and is really fast with Windows 8. But with one piece of software the touch screen doesn't work, the menu items will light up but nothing happens when you press them. If I use a mouse it works fine and as it should. I don't think it's the software because I also used it on a HP 500 Slate and the touchscreen worked fine on that.

If anyone has any ideas for a solution to this problem I would much appreciate it.

There is a bit of a glitch when using older touchscreen hardware with windows 8.

Nearly all older touchscreen hardware is implemented as an mouse emulator. So when pressing on the screen it simulates a mouse click.

Windows 8 makes use of the touchscreen interface rather than the mouse interface for touchscreens, and the driver it installed for your touchscreen (if it installed one) may not be working too well with the hardware. If you install a driver separately for that touchscreen you may get back the mouse emulation for the touchscreen, but then some of the better options like gestures and sweep scrolling may not work well or at all in windows 8.

So what you really need is a touchscreen driver that is really a touchscreen driver (not a mouse emulator driver) for that model of touchscreen on your slate. If you know the touchscreen manufacturer you can maybe find a beta on their site for Windows 8? Find the touchscreen device in the hardware control panel and look up it's VID and PID to find the manufacturer if the driver page doesn;t already tell you. (There is a website somewhere that'll look up the VID/PID and tell you what the product and manufacturer is)

But.. may be slim chance. If not, try finding the normal windows 7 touchscreen drivers for it, that may help some, though not guarantee it'll be fully functional.

  On my HP lap top, the main touch pad does not respond to tapping activation, but thelower left and right mouse sections do.  My lap top recently changed over to windows 10 automatically and wondered if that may have caused it.  Is there a settings option I can get to correct this so I can regain full use of the touch pad?
