Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

Q: Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

Hi Guys,

I have a REAL newbie question. I?ve tried reading a bunch of tutorials, but they?re a little over my head. I think my question is pretty basic, but after a couple hours research, hopefully someone here would be kind enough to help.

I have an M2A-VM motherboard and my system keeps freezing up, no input from keyboard or mouse, no ctl-alt-del, nothing. It freezes intermittently, but never goes more than 3 hours without freezing, sometimes freezes in a few seconds, with 5 ? 10 minutes being the average time it works before freezing. Seems to freeze more (often immediately) when I?m using the mouse than any other time, but it will freeze on it?s own, just idling, if you give it enough time.

I?ve read a few things including updating bios and downloading the latest motherboard drivers. My problem starts when I go to download the mobo drivers from this page:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

It lists 41 driver updates there for my motherboard:

41 files found

Qualified Vendor List (1)

BIOS (20) [BIOS History]

BIOS-Utilities (1)

Chipset (1)

AUDIO (1)

LAN (1)

Utilities (2)

Manual (14)

And apparently I?m ?missing? these Windows Updates:

Q934062 - Important
Q936960 - Important
Q950130 - Critical
Q951550 - Important
Q951944 - Important
Q973923 - Moderate

Question #1: Do I download all 41?? Surely my machine can?t need 41 updates? How do I know which ones to download and install?

Question #2: Will a windows update select the appropriate motherboard drivers from this list or is that unrelated?

Question #3: Will a windows update automatically select these particular updates for me or do I need to do anything manually to get them?

Question #4: How do I update BIOS? Which to choose (there are 20 listed above)? Is this something a professional should do or is it simple enough for a guy like me?

If anyone takes mercy on me and responds, I?ll be eternally grateful and I?ll promise to help a lost soul in the future as repayment. I?ll take any help I can get.

Here are my specs:

Processor: 2.80 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
128 kilobyte primary memory cache; 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache; 64-bit ready;
Multi-core (2 total); Not hyper-threaded

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2A-VM 1.XX

BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS M2A-VM ACPI BIOS Revision 0804 06/15/2007

Chipset: Support AMD Socket AM2 Athlon64 / Athlon64 FX / Athlon64 X2 / Sempron

RAM: 1024 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

OS: Windows 7 Professional (build 7600)

Thanks guys.....

A: Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

Can anyone from Toshiba Support tell me if and when we can expect Windows 8 x64 drivers for Toshiba T210? The equipment is pretty classic. I am sure this is very easy to compile available drivers into the official release

I also wanted to know as when Toshiba T210 finally gets BIOS update. Its current BIOS version is 1.60 while many other similar and earlier models jumped to 2.2 BIOS version and above

Regards,

A:Satellite T210 - Windows 8 x64 drivers and BIOS update

This is user to user forum so you will not get answer from Toshiba support directly.
What I can say is follow:
All about Win8 on Toshiba notebooks you can read on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8-message/
Under Toshiba Compatibility Matrix you can check if your notebook model is supported for Win8 or not.

What to say about BIOS. Toshiba doesn?t offer BIOS update if there is no some critical problem or some reason for that. If your piece of hardware works well and stabile there is no reason for BIOS update. What do you expect should happen with newer BIOS version?

Hello! I'm new here at Tech Spot. This is a great website.

Where can I get a copy of the newest BIOS update for my motherboard?

Model: Asus P5GD1-VM Motherboard
Version: 0602
Chipset: I915
Date: 09/06/2005-16:48:11
Onboard Sound: Azalia (swa)
Onboard LAN: Exist (wl)
BIOS Size: 512 K
BIOS Type: AMI

I downloaded all BIOS .ROM files in the official website of Asus. But it weren't compatible with the BIOS to be flashed.

Please help me! Thank you very much in advanced!

A:Motherboard BIOS update

The latest BIOS for your board is version 1015. It's not necessary to load each BIOS in order, just load the latest. To load the BIOS you must copy it to a floppy disc and rename it P5GD1-VM.ROM If you didn't rename it, that's why it won't load. On the same Asus download page, you can get the user manual for your board, which goes into detail how to reflash the BIOS. It can render your motherboard un-bootable if you do it wrong, so I would read the manual before attempting it again, and follow instructions carefully.

I have a GA-M68MT-S2 Rev. 3.1 mobo. I am having problems with the computer locking up at times so I wanted to update the BIOS from FB to FC. I put the file to (got it from Gigabyte website for that board for the OS I am running) ... update the BIOS on a flash drive. I have it in the USB port on the mobo. When I go to Q Flash and ask it to update the BIOS it tells me drive not found. Can't do it while in windows either ... what can I do???

A:Can't Update BIOS On Gigabyte MotherBoard

1. Is the flash drive formatted FAT file system
2. QFlash

Updating the BIOS with the Q-Flash Utility

A. Before You Begin

From GIGABYTE's website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your 1. motherboard model.

Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g. X79UD7.F1) to your USB flash drive or hard drive. Note: 2. The USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system.

Restart the system. During the POST, press the <End> key to enter Q-Flash. Note: You can access Q-Flash 3. by either pressing the <End> key during the POST or pressing the <F8> key in BIOS Setup

Hi.
i've recently decide to update all of my PC components , and stuck on motherboard bios.
can you help me with it ?
i've red the manuals , and it says to download "asus update utility" on their site , but when im choosing "windows 7 64" and downloading the utility it says that i should download 64 bit application .
so is there any other way to update my bios ? or... im lost a bit

A:Asus m4a88t-m motherboard BIOS update

I suggest using the EZ Flash utility, rather than updating the BIOS from within Windows. It's invoked from within the BIOS setup. RTFM. (If you've mislaid the manual, it's available for download from support.asus.com.)

No download required, other than the BIOS file itself.

I think that EZ Flash is safer than Windows. It may be as good as flashing from DOS.

Right now I'm running:

Windows 7 64 bit

on:
MSI P35 Neo Combo motherboard
2 gigabytes DDR3 1066
BFGtech Nvidia 9800gtx+ 512mb
160 gigabyte Western digital hard drive 7200rpm
Default BIOS version

I'm not sure just how much more is relevant, so ask if you need more information on my system. Here's my problem:

Today I got another 2 gigabyte stick of RAM for my computer. Putting into Channel B results in a strange error. It tells me that "the performance of overclocking is failed" and refuses to boot windows. It only offers that I can open up the boot menu or go into the BIOS to edit settings.

I deduced that since the memory chip wasn't dead that I was having an issue with the BIOS. I did some research and found that my BIOS was outdated. Version 1.7 is out and it has improved memory capabilities which I assume means that it will support 2 unbuffered sticks of memory.

Attempting to update my BIOS results in another error. It tells me that the version of the file I'm trying to install isn't compatible with my operating system and that I need to check for a version of the file that's compatible with 64 bit.

My BIOS update however only has one (to my knowledge) download link on the MSI homepage, and it says NOTHING with regards to whether it's necessary to have a 64 bit version of it or not.

Please...someone has to have some insight here. I know someone has a clue on how to fix this. Anything any of you c... Read more

Is this an AMI BIOS.
If so, and you can get the new BIOS onto a floppy, there is a possibility you may still be able to flash the new BIOS.

Most Mobos with an AMI BIOS will look for a floppy disk with a bios update on it.

The second post here,

should answer your question about whether it supports AHCI or not (hint: it does, but only partially).

As far as a bios update goes, forget about it. With Abit going out of business more than 4 years ago and their site shutting down, personally I wouldn't trust any site that claims to have a bios for that board. Going to have to live with whatever bios version it has on it.

I recently bought a Geforce 6600 GT. It’s nice when it works, but occasionally, I get an error that prevents it from functioning. The error seems to occur on an intermittent basis – sometimes when I boot up, it will be present, and sometimes it won’t be. The only indication of the error is when the “Windows is Starting up/Loading your personal settings” boxes pop-up – when the error is occurring, those boxes are distorted. And then if any kind of program with 3d acceleration tries to run, the whole system locks up. And then I reboot, and hope for the best.

It doesn’t always occur, but it’s a pain when it does – I’m developing a reboot phobia. Tech support for the card said to update my motherboard drivers, tech support for the motherboard says to update my BIOS and the BIOS people want to charge me $60 USD for a floppy disc.

I’m guessing the BIOS is indeed the problem (Award BIOS, apparently from 2001…yikes). But $60 seems a bit steep in our modern age of miracles. Are there sites out there with free BIOS updates, or is this just the nature of the BIOS beast?

I went to all the 10 pages of Threads on drivers updates and did not find a recent answer to this general question.

After resetting my Dell Laptop to better that ever before (due to the help of Noel ), I have now cleaned up all files and folders, cookies, taken empty and doubble things away, plus cleaned register and the lot with Super Antispyware, Glary Utilities and so on.

I have updates 4 programmes and now they keep reminding me to update my drivers and BIOS

I read that many people have problems after doing so, but on the other hand, my laptop is from 2010 and I cannot remember having ever updated a driver.

Also with windows 7 being soon not top priority of the Windows Big Bosses any more, I wander, is it now the good moment to attack this, ( after a System Image of course ) or just forget about it as all runs smoothly.

Thanks for any idea's on this - sort of - general subject !

I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to update BIOS so that I can upgrade my processor from a 1.5 MHz to a 2.4 MHz pentium 4 (currently I have a Pentium 4, 1.5 MHZ, 400 MHz bus, 512 MB ram, windows XP).

To update BIOS (the Motherboard is an Intel D845HV with 845 chipset), I downloaded Intel's "express bios update utility" (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go!) but when my computer boots it always say the upgrade was unsuccessful and it refers me to the readme file. I have not been able to figure out what I'm doing wrong - but I've never tried this before!

One thing it says is to shutdown all windows programs. I have both Norton internet security and Roxio Go Back installed. Could these programs be part of the problem? Can I simply disable these programs, or do I need to completely uninstall them (a real pain!)? Is there another possible cause? Is there another way to do this? Thanks!

My friend's Win8 upgrade ( no, really! It was MY FRIEND'S machine, I swear!) halted on an error with an Intel driver issue. The solution was simple, he just needed to update his drivers from the mobo website BEFORE trying to upgrade to Win8. Untold hours of misery trying to track down the error rather than the few minutes of updating his drivers.

Things like this are why a clean install is generally recommended.

I updated the Bios for my Trigem IM845GL motherboard. During the system booted up sequence it displayed the new Bios software screen then just before booting up the operating system (windows xp) it said:

'A disk read error occurred, please press ctrl+alt+del to restart'.

I think I might have installed the wrong Bios drivers??
I have checked the bios to ensure that the hard-disk is the main bootup drive and it is.
I have reset the bios by moving the jumper blocks leaving them in the 2-3 position for 30 seconds replacing them to 1-2 position. But it did not clear the bios.
Since the computer came with a specialised company software on two disks by setting up the bootup to be the cd-rom drive and putting in the disk it only has the option of deleting the data on the hard-disk and re-installing all the standard software. I don?t want to loose the data so this isn't a option.
Can anyone please help as this is really doing my head in!!!!

you have to put the information on a floppy disk and insert it into your computer at the start up then press alt + f2 and this will update bios to the original state.

A while ago I posted the possibility of upgrgrading my 6GB Lenovo V570 to 16GB.  It seemed as if it would be ok, although contrary to what Lenovo stated, but I chickened out.  Instead I've been living with my unit opearting very slowly and having the desktop manager and shockwave flash frequently fail.  It's not wonderful dealing with this and I have been looking for answers.  I thought about adding another couple of GB and along the way found suggestions on updating the drivers and bios.  Anyone savvy enough to advise on what drivers being updated would improve and how to accomplish this?  Also how is the bios updated wihtout screwing everything up?  I'm also thinking of doing a factory resore after backing up all the info on the unit.  Woudl a fresh start help or should I just  save my money and buy a new windows 10 computer?  Thanks!

Hi Everyone!
This is my first post here, but I promise I'll do my best to make sense.
I've been using a PC since 1999, but I've always stayed away from the technical end of things & had the "experts" deal with problems because my mind just isn't wired-up to be a DIY lady. Since money is quite scarce due to my disability, I have to be the one to do what's needed this time, & with your guidance, resolve the current problem. In my defense, I'm no dummy & I'm a quick learner... I can do just about anything...as long as I have very detailed instructions from someone who knows what/how to do what needs to be done, & that's where all the more knowledgeable people on this Forum come in. I'll do my best to explain things, but if I leave something out, just ask & I'll do my best to fill in the blanks. Thanks for taking the time to read my post...I'm very grateful for your help & especially for your patience!
Now to my problem....

I'm running Windows 8.1, 64 bit on a Lenovo G585 Idea Pad. About a month ago, I noticed a sharp decline in my PC's ability to handle streaming media & performance in general. (I rely heavily on streaming media ability, as I keep records on Bald Eagle nests for research & educational purposes), & I always have at least 1 nest cam on 24/7, (usually 2-4), & I used to be able to have Firefox or Pale Moon browser open with the live nest-cam feed st... A:Streaming media problem...how to update drivers or BIOS correctly

You should always get the most up to date drivers for your laptop from the manufacturers support site Runnin driver updaters often give you drivers that are actually out of date. As far as BIOS updates, you should only Update the BIOS if the update corrects an issue you are having with your computer or to add compatibility for new components.

As far as trusting any customer service or tech support from Comcast goes, they have been being raked over the coals lately for their lousy service including blaming customer equipment for problems that are Comcast service and equipment problems. On the sad side you not have a choice as they may be the only broadband service available in in your area.

Hi: You can pull the DOS based flash file folder out of the BIOS package, copy just the contents of the DOS flash folder to a USB flash drive formatted with the FAT file system. Plug the flash drive in a usb port, restart the PC, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options. Select the F10 System setup option to gain access to the BIOS. Select the File menu>Flash system ROM command.  Select the USB flash drive. The PC will see the files on the flash drive.  Follow the on screen prompts to update the BIOS. That way it makes no difference what operating system you are running. One very important note...I have read the installing the latest BIOS 2.29 causes issues with W10. There is a forum post regarding that... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Compaq-8200-Elit...I am running v2.28 on my HP 8200 Elite CMT, and have no issues at all on W10. I read that post and decided not to update the BIOS to v2.29.

My wife's Windows-10 HP Laptop got stuck in a Determining Problem/Restart to Repair/Determining Problem/Restart to Repair loop yesterday for 8 hours.

Finally, I just said "screw it", and used the Media Creation Tool to make a Win10 disk using another computer in the house.

Couldn't do a repair because it said some registry entries were missing, so I just did a clean install, which erased everything that was on her Laptop.

After doing the Clean Install, Windows-10 must have pulled in at least 6 Win-10 updates from the internet over a several hour period. Had to restart the PC after a few of them.

I was under the impression that the LATEST Windows-10 update included all prior Win-10 updates...all rolled into one. I've read it here in the forum, and a couple of other places. But this doesn't seem to be the case. At least not anymore.

A:Latest Update Includes All Previous Updates? Nope!

From my understanding,, none of the cumulative updates are included in the ISO that we get from the media creation tool and that's why they are downloaded during the instillation.. as you saw.

Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

A:windows 7 will not update video drivers or windows update.

FWIW:  I suggest that you NOT use Windows Update for hardware drivers.  If the system is a laptop or other OEM system, the manufacturer's website is the place to seek appropriate drivers for your system.  If system is sself-built or put together using individual components that you or someone else selected...then the motherboard manufacturer or component manufacturer (e.g., installed video card) is the website that should provide the appropriate drivers.

INTERNET SOFT UNDERBELLY Adobe Flash has been flushed with a range of updates that should make it less onerous for at least four weeks.
The patch whack on the software is a big one, and sees Adobe level 79 fixes at it and its users. There is some argument that reckons that Flash should be linked with a sack, some rocks and the sea, but Adobe insists on patching up its old pal.
This is the last of the Adobe releases this year, so you might assume it is something of a best of. It is not, it is a package of bandages that cover threats that can be considered critical and thus urgent.
Judging by the noises coming from the security commentary community, these are not patches that you want to sit on so get applying.

The update has been out for a few day but I thought I would post this to make people aware of the update.

Hello,

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!
Nelson Davis

I bought this HP Probook 455 G3 and it has just run out of warranty which I intend to renew very soon. I don't like 8.1 or 10 so I spent more than I wanted to and I bought a new Windows 7 lappy that is a business laptop. I always do the recommended updates that I receive by E mail but one I never do which is the Bios update. The last time I did a Bios update on this lappy it wouldn't fire up afterwards. Rang tech help and after going through some troubleshooting it went back for repair. It came back working and luckliy i didn't have many pictures on it.Started from scratch and haven't had a problem since. I am now scared to do the Bios update. And.... Beofre I bought this laptop I bought a Windows 8.1 from HP direct . Hardly use it but update virus protection as necassary and last week there was a Bios update to perform. I also took out another 2 years warranty on it. Same think happened. Last week in fact. Wouldn't fire up afterwards. Again Tech help tried to help but in the end after frequent crashes it went in for repair on Friday. Good job I took out the extra warranty... I am now down to 1 laptop which I do not want to fail on me. I don't seem to have much luck with the Bios updates... Advice please? Is the Bios absolutely essential?

Hi, A friend has an Asrock K7S8X motherboard on his old computer, and would like to upgrade his computer to run Windows 7. Could anyone suggest an economical replacement motherboard/Cpu which is directly interchangeable with existing one (dimensions/mounting etc.). He is not a "gamer" and just requires it for storing files and internet access.
Thank you, John

A:Motherboard and CPU update to Run Windows

it looks like a standard ATX motherboard, and so you should be able to replace it with any ATX motherboard.

The problem is it appears to use IDE for hard drive connections, which is now obsolete. There still is motherboards out that have IDE (also called PATA), but most don't. You won't be able to run any recent intel processors, but there are some that support the latest AMD processors...

I know very little about AMD, but what about this?

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... My desktop has a Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H motherboard, which has two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports. Earlier today they were all working fine, after installing a windows update and rebooting, suddenly the 2.0 ports no longer work. Plugging in a device still gives the device power (my USB mouse flashes ever 3 seconds or so), but no response when the device is plugged in. In device manager all "USB Root Hub" tabs remain unchanged when I plug anything into the 2.0 ports.

Found a couple older forum threads which described a similar problem after a windows update, but the solution didn't seem to apply in this case. I tried running the utilities found at

Binary files in some USB drivers are not updated after you install Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

but whatever they were checking for (Usbport.sys, Usbehci.sys, and Winusb.sys files) were all fine.

Any ideas? I wish I could get by with the remaining 2 ports but alas, I use a USB mouse, keyboard, and wireless card (by necessity, not choice).

A:Motherboard USB 2.0 ports disabled after Windows update.

have you tried installing the chip set drivers and USB drivers from the Gigabyte website after this happened?

Also, have you taken a look at the integrated peripherals in your bios to make sure all your USB Controllers are still Enabled

You may want to right click on your USB drivers and hit uninstall from the device manager and reboot. windows will automatically re install them when you restart. If not you can install the drivers from the website.

A:BIOS Update in Windows 7

You shouldn't attempt to reflash the BIOS from within Windows... it's a process that will either prove impossible, or at best unsafe (hardware dependant) - what you need to do is whack the BIN file onto a USB stick (best to use a sub 2Gb stick) and load it during boot up according to Toshibas instructions for your machine.

A:BIOS update for windows 10

Iced42 There's no need to be rude! There are no HP Win10 drivers for your PC so, when you did the update, what you got were MS drivers -- which only provide basic functionality. You can't find Win10 BIOS updates because HP does not certify your PC for Win10 and, therefore, has not produced any Win10 BIOS updates. HP has not published any schedule for when, or if, they will be  producing BIOS updates for the older machines.

A:BIOS UPDATE for Windows 10

Your original OS was WIN 7, with BIOS 7.16 circa Jan 1012.  There is NO supported BIOS update that would allow UEFI, and that is where all such inquiries really imply.  Your only solution is a hybrid OS GPU card.  It would allow Legacy and UEFI when you have such a motherboard in your next system. Both MSI and Shappire offers such cards. I'd offer the links, but it seems to be broken right now.

I purchased an ACER V3-372-57CW and the computer refuses to boot (the green ACER splash screen at EFI boot won't even show) when my (otherwise fully functional) WACOM Intuos 4 tablet is plugged in into any USB port. Acer customer care refused to acknoledge nor register the issue so my last hope is that a BIOS update will solve the problem. I'm used to manufacturers providing DOS executable flash utilities for running under FreeDOS etc. but for the Acer V3-372, I can only find a Windows 10 Executable. Obviously, uninstalling the whole system just for updating the BIOS is not a viable option. Is it possible to obtain either a DOS executable for the BIOS update or something which could be used from within Linux (with EFI)? Thank you

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion dv6000. I recently updated to Windows 7 from vista but there seems to be no new drivers or bios for windows 7 for HP Pavilion dv6000 on their website? Should I just use the latest one for Vista? Is it compatible?

A:no bios update for windows 7?

Do not install any vista driver until unless you are left with no option. In most cases Win 7 automatically finds all the drivers, if it does not you can check for Win update and it should include any driver that was missing. Usually the track pad will not have scrolling after a fresh install but that was taken care of after the first windows update that I did manually minutes after the install. You function key might also give you some problem if it handles some functions not usually found on US keyboards. In that case you'll have to write to HP. This said, there is no need to worry, as most of the drivers will be found within Win 7.

CPU fan failed and PC would not boot except to "fan failure" message. Fan has been replaced, but now constantly getting blue screen error BSOD, which reads "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" and sometimes other errors. Windows tries to boot into recovery but BSODs again and again. What I've tried:  1) Reset BIOS to defaults. DONE - same behavior after reset to BIOS defaults.  2) Tried booting from USB drives (several) using Linux recovery tools (Kaspersky, Ubuntu Live, etc.). KERNEL PANIC, etc.  3) Downloaded BIOS update from HP and created BIOS update USB. Rebooted with USB key (I turned off secure boot, etc. to allow USB booting.) - NOTHING. I tried this both allowing BIOS to run untouched  and by going into BIOS options (pressing ESC @ boot up) - no options anywhere to read/update BIOS. According to an HP Support doc, I tried updating the BIOS from w/in "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI". The version on this PC is version 5.2.2.0:  I see no option to update UEFI (Flash BIOS). Options read as follows: System Information, System Tests, Component Tests, Test Logs, Language, Exit.  What do I try next, please? BIOS: JA2 v80.35CPU: AMD A8-6500RAM: 8GB DDR3, single DIMM in slot 4.     NOTE: System came w/ RAM in slot 4. Doesn't POST if RAM DIMM is in slot #1. Is this normal?

Hey guys. I just bought a new PC for school and the HP Support Assistant program recommends an update to the BIOS. Now I know the update is available but I also know that you typically should only update if their is a problem as updating BIOS is risky if not done properly. Now since is a recommended update, I have already attempted the update and it has failed twice. I do not want to keep taking chances of messing up a brand new machine just for an update that may not even been necessary to begin with. What I would like to know, is what exactly does this update add/fix on this machine? I have already searched the Internet but have been unsuccessful in finding a description for this paticular update. If someone could please take a look at the attached screenshot and let me know what this update is for, I would be most appreciative. At least then I could make an informed decision on wether or not I'm going to attempt this update again. Thank you.

A:How do I update drivers on windows 7?

I do not claim that it is the best way, but device drivers can be updated using the driver update facility in Windows 7.

1. Click on the Start button at the bottom left of the screen

2. In the line with "Search for programs and files" written in it, type "Device Manager" and then open Device Manager by clicking on it in the window that comes up. A warning that administrator permission is need to change anything might come up but that can be ignored for the time being.

3. In the Device Manager window, select the device you are interested in and click on it - for example Monitors - then click on the subfolder which describes the actual device you have.

4. In the window that comes up, click on "Change Settings" - administrator permission is now required.

5.Click on the driver tag and then Update Driver.

I am personally wary of updating drivers unless there is some need to do it. There are probably quicker ways of doing it than what  have described.

They are from the manufacturer. But it is strongly advised to never use them from Microsoft anyhow. Always visit the manufacturers' websites for drivers.

Since a few day I have Windows 8 Pro RTM (Dreamspark, fully activated) on an Asus N56VZ. Works pretty well, but driver availability through Windows Update is, well, almost non-existant. Most drivers I need exist for Windows 7 in Windows Update without problems. Of course, the drivers are available (also signed) from the website of the companies...

I also had Windows 7 from MSDNAA back then, and IIRC all drivers where available in Windows Update from the beginning...

Just uninstalled IntelliPoint and tried again: I don't get anything mouse-related now in Windows Update. Was this a mistake by MS? On the MS site I only find the Center for the Release Preview versions of Windows 8... Is this thing not finished? What mou... Read more

A:Drivers in Windows Update

I personally don't depend on Windows update for my drivers. I go directly to the manufacturer for the latest and greatest. I've found in the past that the Windows update supplied drivers are rather generic and are often missing some of the features and functionality provided in the manufacturers drivers. There will be a lot of hardware that will never get a Windows 8 driver. Its up to the manufacturer to supply the drivers to Microsoft, if they want to. They may decide that that particular model is old enough that they won't bother updating the driver at all. I've also found that the Microsoft supplied drivers become outdated rather quickly.

Did you get the correct 13.9 drivers for your "legacy" HD4670?

AMD has two driver branches now, with HD4xxx and below using "legacy" version, and HD5xxx and above using active WHQL. You can't succeed in installing the wrong driver for your hardware, and the installation log should show that the Display Driver WAS NOT INSTALLED (or rather, it won't appear on the log list of those things that actually did get installed).

When doing a "custom install", the list of components eligible for installation would be presented. If you try to use the wrong driver for your hardware, the Display Driver item won't show up in the list. So this is another clue you're trying to install the wrong driver package for your hardware.

All that said, are you trying to install the correct "legacy" 13.9 driver??

Well here it goes. When I first bought my computer it had Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. My motherboard is a M2N-E SLI. My computer constantly crashed with the blue screen. I had someone fix my computer and he told be that there was no chipsets for this motherboard that worked with Vista (this is about a year ago when I had it fixed). So he installed Windows XP 32 bit and I never had a problem. But now I want to run more then 4GB of memory and I like Vista because it is more user friendly for people like me who dont know much about computers. So if I reinstall Vista on my computer and put these chipset updates that I found here in the forums will they work and keep my computer from crashing? Also is it just download the updates or is there more to it for chipsets? One more question is the back up disk that I have for Windows Vista the actual program and I can just install it or do I have to buy a copy of Vista to install it. Any help is much appreciated.

I was wondering whether everyone here updates their drivers simply with what becomes available on the Windows Update site or do you download them seperately from each of the manufacturers?

I'm curious whether Microsoft even updates Windows Update with manufacturer drivers when they release new ones. Curious what everyone's take is.

Thanks

Greetings!
I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

After I flashed the H97I-PLUS BIOS 2703, I got a message from American Megatrends to restore bios settings and I pressed F1 to restore bios settings. I know I flashed the bios update properly and I don't understand why windows 7 won't start anymore. Do I need to flash an older bios update, if yes, which bios update?

A few weeks ago, I ran some Microsoft Patch Tuesday updates on my Thinkpad T400S (which at the time ran Windows 10, having been upgraded about 8-9 months previously online from Win 7) and shut it down. When I rebooted, I received a message that it couldn't find a bootable device. It went into the Troubleshooting options, then I chose Reset this PC. It returned a message that the hard drive was "locked." I then tried Advanced Options, Startup Repair first. It said tht Startup Repair couldn't fix the PC. Neither could it find an older build. I went to the command prompt and was taken to an x: drive. When I tried to reach C:, the message said it couldn't find the drive specified. I then rebooted into the BIOS and ran HDD Diagnostics. Much to my surprised, it passed with flying colors,  but still wouldn't boot Win 10. I tried to reinstall Win 7 with the factory recovery disks, but they failed to touch the hard disk. I received messages in quick succession to insert the next CD and in the end got a message that the recovery.ini file couldn't be found. My next step was to take it into the office and install Windows 10 via USB, again surprisingly with success. However, it blew up again after a couple of days. I then reinstalled and went to http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-70351 , downloaded the 7uuj49uc.iso file and burned a bootable CD to update the registry. When I booted with it and tried to do so, though, I got a message that it couldn't find the BIO... Read more

I have an HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC which was originally running Windows 7 (64 bit) and has an AMD processor. I upgraded to Windows 10 (64 bit) from Windows 7 back in April and all seemed fine for about a month but after that I've been getting blue screens of death several times a day with different errors each time. I don't know if Windows 10 is responsible or if my laptop is just getting old. One suggestion I read was to make sure the BIOS was fully up to date. I have checked the BIOS on my machine and it's 'Insyde F.6A, 5/7/2013'. I checked on the HP website and the most up to date BIOS that I could see for the HP Pavilion g6 series was 'F.29, June 17, 2014 (filename sp66880.exe)' which is a more up to date version than I currently have.  However, it doesn't mention anything about the 2014 version of the BIOS being compatible with Windows 10, it only mentions that it is compatible with Windows 7 and 8. If I go ahead and upgrade to this version is it likely to improve things or make them worse? I am concerned that it might make the laptop completely unusable if I upgrade, and not be able to recover it. Would it be possible to roll back to the earlier BIOS version if this happened?

I tried to update the BIOS from our Latitude E5450 systems from A12 to A13 with a command line, distributed by our SCCM, but it does not install the BIOS, though I get a 'succeeded'  return message.
On shutdown and a boot later on, it still says 'A12'.When trying to do a reboot aftwerwards, still no effect. On immediate* reboot after the Install, it installs the 'A13' update.(*immediately: being the first shutdown/reboot action after the BIOS installation)
I though it could be a Windows 10 'fastboot' issue so I disabled that option, but still, when choosing 'shut down' after the succesfull BIOS update, it does not update the BIOS on the next boot.

The command line I use is:A13.exe /s /f /p=xxxxx /l="C:\Temp\BIOS.txt" /forceit

Hi all,The laptop I'm having issues with is ProBook 430 G2Last night I reinstalled my operating system on my laptop and when installing drivers for my new windows 10, I downloaded the bios update and installed it. After the update finished  the laptop restarted to apply the update for the bios but it didn't boot up since. When I press the power button the lights turn on for 2-3 seconds and then it just shuts down again and the screen is black the whole time.  I tried Removing the battery and the power supply, and holding the power button for a minute, it didn't do anything. I also tried holding the Windows + B and power button that doesn't seem to do anything either, but the capslock LED turns on and stays on until I try to turn the machine on again, not sure why. It seems like the bios update did something to the machine but I'm not sure what and how to fix it. Any help would come in handy, thanks a lot!
