Dell Computer Windows7 Driver HELP!

Q: Dell Computer Windows7 Driver HELP!

I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit on a Dell Dimension 1100 computer. Afterwards I noticed that all or alot of the drivers were missing so I went to look them up on my laptop and download them so I could transfer them to the computer and found out that the Dell 1100 is not compatible with windows 7 and installing it is "not recommended", and there were no windows 7 drivers available for that model. Other than having crappy screen resolution and probably some other problems that I problem haven't noticed yet it seems to work fine. Is there any way around this? Would the drivers for the other OS's work? I'm only mildly proficient at computer stuff so if you can help try to keep it in layman's terms. Also if there is a way around this, which drivers do I need to download? I didn't think you needed to download every available one. Thanks.

Hi again after a long absence...

So the title says it, several questions about installing latest drivers on new N7110, windows 7:

Is it really necessary to 1) set a restore point, and 2) reboot after each driver install? Tell me it ain't so...

Bonus question: The 7 search is.... a problem... for me. Would someone point me toward a xp-like search utility to find and dump the crapware Dell installed? I need to be able to see everything and drill through it systematically - like I could with XP search. A FREE program would be preferable.

Thanks.

To clarify, not ALL driver updates require reboot, but almost all, and I've read elsewhere to set a restore point with each. BTW, some new drivers require TWO reboots, one after uninstalling the old driver, then again after installing the new one. Sheesh! I get the reason(s) for individual restore points and reboot, but 23-46 times?

A:dell driver updates on new computer

No, you do not have to create a restore point after each driver - though there's no harm in doing so either. And no, you don't have to reboot after EVERY driver is installed, only certain ones (such as the motherboard / chipset driver). Others can be installed "in bunches" with a reboot after 4 or 5. But why are you installing 23-46 drivers - or am I misreading that????

Also, I just don't use system restore. I use disc imaging, which is a much better solution IMO.

And last, as for what you refer to as "crapware", you have a couple of choices:

1) Just do a clean install - that's what I do every time I get or setup a new system or
2) Open Programs & Features and go through each app that is installed, Google it, and decide if you want to keep it or uninstall it

I just got a second-hand Dell Optiplex GX260. The original purchaser bought it with XP pre-loaded, and had only the reinstallation CD, which I got. Unfortunately, the CD says "This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers." This apparently is true as I'm finding that I have to use the device mfr's disk to get drivers whenever I attach something to the computer. I was wondering if there's a separate driver disk that came with computer (the guy I bought from doesn't recall), and if so, where I can get one. I tried calling Dell, but got tired of pressing and holding.

Try directing your Device Manager's 'Unknown device' to the folder where the Vista drivers for your hardware are located. That may just work. I know it does for my Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty on Build 7100.

If so, when did the computer last work well?

As soon as the Dell logo screen appears, begin tapping the F8 key once a second.

Look for an option to disable automatic re-start.

I recently had to do the hand-me-down thing with my wife's Dell, with the old Dell going to my daughter.  My daughter's machine is now insisting that the Win7 installation is invalid.
All machines have their original Dell service tags.  How can I retrieve my the Windows 7 activation code that was used on my daughter's Dell when it was originally shipped?

A:How to retrieve Windows7 act. code based on Dell service tag?

Follow the instructions in this video:

More details are given here:

I instruct not only in downloading the Windows 7 .iso and creating a Windows 7 USB. I also instruct in using the Activation Backup and Recovery program with Dell files to restore the OEM system locked preinstallation mechanism.
This effectively converts the Retail .iso into a Dell Reinstallation DVD.

Hello All,

I have recently re-installed windows 7 on a friends laptop, this is my first time doing so, I've always wanted to have a go at it and they said they didn't mind if the device didn't work afterwards. So off I went.

After a few issues with corrupt DVDs and BOOTMGR missing I managed to install it via a USB stick I made.

I used the Windows 7 64bit Home Premium SP1 install from digital river.

The laptop runs smooth now, which is great. But, as I expected, a few devices don't work, mainly the Wireless card though I am a little impressed that they work better than I anticipated, i.e they are actually discovered and have drivers installed. Win7 troubleshoot tells me to turn the wireless card on via the hardware switch etc. But I've scanned the whole laptop, there isn't one, it did have 'allow windows to turn this off to save power...' checked, so I unchecked it and restarted but no luck.

I went onto Google and started searching, I found a complete drivers list on the ASUS site and a wireless switch software, woohooo. But when I installed it, I was told to install ATK0100 driver so I googled that, turned out to be an ATK utility for ASUS machines. I downloaded that and now I am stuck, the ATK utility says, once installed, that it only runs on ASUS machines... I believe that this software is also related the to Fn key functions, which don't work naturally.
I googled the ASUS machine error and people are saying to use the ASU... Read more

My Dell Laptop came with Windows Vista Home Premium. I didn't get any Windows Disk but there is a Windows Vista Recovery partition from which I can restore laptop to the condition it was when I first got it. It has only 2 partitions; the system partition and recovery partition.
Now I want to install Windows 7. I tried to shrink the system partition so I can save the Vista installation, programs and data and install Win7 for a dual boot but I can only get 14GB even though HDD capacity is 320GB and free space is more than 100GB. I like to have the ability of restoring my laptop anytime to its original condition with Vista.

Basically,
1 - I need to install Win 7 and use it regularly
2 - Want to have the ability to restore that to its factory settings ( Don't want to harm the Recovery partition & ability to recover from it)
3 - Optionally! Better if I can dual boot the default Vista with my new Win 7

Shrinking won't help because it doesn't give enough space, can I use Norton Ghost or something like that to save my original HDD image. But then I will have it saved somewhere else not in my own Laptop if I had to remove the recovery partition and format the disk again.
Please give me my options and tools which I can use. Thank you very much.

I am unable to find a suitable driver for my computer. I have a Compaq Presario R3000AP 3.2 GHz 2.5GB Ram and have upgraded to windows 7 with SP1.
I did a clean install and all the windows 7 drivers were installed and are compatible except for the Realtek AC'97 audio driver.

I downloaded and installed the Realtek AC'97 Codecs from the Realtek website, but unfortunately this was unsuccessful . Then I downloaded and installed the SP29586 Realtek AC'97 Driver version 6.0.1.6305 from the HP website and this was also unsuccessful. Finally I downloaded from the Microsoft website the same Audio Driver version 6.0.1.6305 and installed it but unfortunately again this was unsuccessful.

In the Device manager under Sound, video and game controllers it show below "Realtek AC'97 Audio device", version 6.0.1.6305 but in properties is shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Windows 7 does recognize the sound device, but is unable to completely install it, even though under the "driver file details tab" it show drivers installed in the windows directory.

I understand that Microsoft does not support the Realtek driver, but there must be some kind of fix or even someone out there that is able to rewrite the driver somehow.

Seems a shame to have to get a new computer because of this, as it is very fast with windows 7 even though it is only a Pentium 4.

I have no more options and I am asking for help. PLEASE!

To install a driver in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Hope I am in the correct forum for this. Laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I rebuilt. It has always worked even better than my husband's new laptop. I am pretty sure this is a virus/trojan, not a hardware issue, but could be wrong why I am on here. I was typing the other night & it all of a sudden started typing letters I was not typing & the lights on front of laptop started flashing. I stopped immediately booted into safe mode & ran superantispyware & went to bed. Next morning, it said nothing found. so then I ran malwarebytes, nothing found & avast scan, nothing found. Then the keyboard quit working all together, but touchpad still works. I hooked up a usb keyboard & it works fine. When I restart computer it gets stuck on the windows 7 boot menu & will go no further until I hit enter, never had to do that before. Also a few times firefox would only run in it's safe mode, now it's like normal but takes forever to open the first window. Went back into safe mode, ran microsoft security scan. Found 1 item, deleted that. Still doing the same thing. I dont think it's the keyboard, because I installed a new one about 6 months ago & too many other strange things happening all at once. Someone please help! I am about to pull my hair out with this one!

Do you know how to solve this problem?

Hello,
I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

Hello,
On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

I've got a Dell Latitude E6320 where the driver installer for the Dell Wireless 1530 wireless card fails.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, the computer boots in UEFI mode, and I've installed all of the drivers according to the Latitude E-Family Re-Image Guide.

I have an HP Compaq dx2000mt desktop that has windows7 32bit enterprise installed on it. I tried to install windows7 home 32bit to replace the enterprise OS. As I was installing it stated the old OS would be marked, XXX.old and it went forward, then came to a point where there were booting errors. and it stopped installing. Now I am left with a half install, and a full OS the boot section now in its own drive named disk 0 system reserved.
I partioned the C drive and allocated 20gb and tried to install there. I received the same errors seems that my boot.ini is stuck in the system reserved and I cant figure out how to incorporate disk 0 over to disk C, so that my boot is in the same disk drive.
I have really messed this one up. I have installed an operating system before and never had so much trouble.
Any advice would be helpful.
And please if you have an answer, something for me to do, it needs to be A.B.C.'d out step by step as Im not an expert. But I guess I already proved that...
Thank you in advance.

You will not get win 10 video or chipset drivers for the old laptop since they don't exist, so you have to make do with lower resolutions on the new monitor. Touch will not work on the old laptop. Time to upgrade to a new computer!

This might be a foolish question to ask but I was reading all the rants in the windows10 section. It says a lot of people are still buying windows7 on new computers. Here is the foolish part:Would it be the new UEFI or the traditional BIOS,thank-you.

A:Windows7 on new computer

I doubt you will find a motherboard which does not have the option for UEFI or BIOS.  This had been in development since 2005.  I don't know of a motherboard which doesn't include the option for the legacy version of BIOS, so you will not locked into using the UEFI.  This may even be set as the default for the motherboard.

I am purchasing a new Dell Studio XPS 9000 quadri-core computer. It will have Windows7 Premiere OS. I have a Dell Dimensions 8300 computer with Windows XP SP3 Home Edition. The OS is on a 640 GB hard drive.
If I remove the hard drive from the old computer and install it as the secondary hard drive in the new computer will I be able to boot up in either system or should I just forget about it.

Please advise.

Thanks

A:Windows7 & XP SP3 on same computer

Its possible to dual boot windows 7 and XP on seperate hdd's but you can't just boot from the hdd with a windows install thats from another computer. You would have to do a clean install or a repair install because of driver issues and either way you cannot use the dell disk from the 8300 so you would have to purchase a copy of XP.

Then you would have to make sure there is XP drivers avalible for the XPS 9000

To make sure your Going from SATA to USB, if so, then are you using the USB with + or power port.  Depending on the motherboard.  (had the same issue in the E Series Dells)    Also, SATA does not provide power on its own, it needs to be plugged in, or you need to plug the two cables into two usb ports
the cable for it could be One connector, and two on the other side.  The main cable is the data+power, the other is the extra Power.  USB gives Max 3.3V, SATA usually need 5 or 12V to work.
If all else fails pull your CD drive and connect to that if you can.

One tech said the hard drive melted to the mother board. The person that took info off the Hard drive thought it might be the mother board. However he couldn't say that there was any melting. He said the hard drive was ok. Sometimes when I start it it beeps. Sometimes it will start to load windows. It originally came with Windows Vista and was updated to Win 7 Home Premium a long time ago. It had something called Search Assistant on it and I finally got that application and Search Assist off It was several days after that when this all started If it does load windows it crashes. Doesn't stay up long enough to do anything. I restart it with the Win 7 disk in. Any ideas? It s 7 years old I

Sounds like it's looking for a raid controller or raid configuration. If you are not utilizing a raid then try resetting the bios/cmos.

Hello there,

After visiting some sites last night I found that all of a sudden my internet was stuck on only a certain website, and any other website or page I tried to navigate to, it would not work. I tried again to get online tonight and it did work oddly enough, I was able to go to other websites. I do still think though that there is a chance I picked up some kind of problem so I thought I'd better get it checked out just in case.

I tried to follow the steps as provided to the best of my ability. The contents of the DDS scan are as follows. I will try to attach the attach.txt. I did have a problem with the Gmer scan however. Upon downloading it and opening it (my computer seemed to unzip it automatically? because I never had to do that step) the items that I was supposed to uncheck were all greyed out, I could not have selected or deselected them if I wanted to. I continued to run the scan anyway and it did seem to be scanning. Upon completion it said
"GMER has not found any system modification". I saved it but when I re-opened it the document was blank. I tried the process two times with the exact same process and result. I definitely feel that something went wrong there but don't know what. I have zipped and will attach the two files anyway, because I don't know what to do instead.

Thank you in advance for your time and help with this,
Sincerely,

Hello from germany,

very often (about one or two times a day) my computer suddenly freezes without a bluescreen. All I can do is to use the powerbutton. Keyboard and mouse don't work when freezing.

This happens usually in the first five till ten minutes after booting. If it doesn't freeze it works without problems.
It happens no matter what I am currently working with. No matter if I'm using the internet explorer, or thunderbird, or watching youtube, or just clicking on my destop ...

I've already tried to update all the drivers and did a Windows-Update.

I've checked every RAM. Each after each. With everyone I had the problem.

My computer:
Windows7 Home Premium 64 Bit
AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor
6 GB RAM
GeForce GT 220

I really hope you can help me. I want to solve this problem!

Thanks alot!

Greetings from Germany,

Tina

A:Windows7 64bit: Computer freezes / no Bluescreen

Hi Tina!
Here are a few things I would try first.

Do you have a System Restore point before the problem started?

Look in Event Viewer for any errors at the time of the freeze, for a clue about whats causing the freeze.

Boot into safe mode with networking. Start tapping the F8 key while the computer is starting up. Run it for long enough to see if it will freeze.

If things are OK in safe mode, in the search box enter msconfig.exe and click on it. In the Startup tab disable everything except your antivirus app. Next in the Services tab click on Hide Microsoft Services and disable the remaining services. Restart and wait for the PC to freeze. If it is still running OK, go back to msconfig.exe and enable about half the the entries you disabled earlier. Reboot and see what happens. The idea is to find the startup program or service that is causing the problem by adding back the entries until you can find the offender.

Finding the problem will take some and a lot of reboots.

Hi,

I recently have posted aboutan issue with recovering from a partition whichwent fine.

So I went through to do a clean re-install of windows 7 with a boot USB to get rid of factory bloatware and when I do. it gets to the option to write to a partition it sayscan't write to a GPT partition. Which is not really a big issue as plenty of tuts to.change to MBR which I have read.

But also if it dont make it to the option to write to a partition I get an error where windows says cannot find the device drivers installation. I have spent a day trying to find a way to get drivers on there. And I dont want to convert to MBR and still get the same driver error.

I have wrote the bo0t USB using different programs and still get either of those errors.

Before I start attacking both computers, thought I better ask beforehand or the b/f will 'kill' me

Can I remove the hard drive from the old computer, install it as a 2nd drive in the new computer and be able to access all the data (documents, photos, messages saved in outlook and my favourites etc) on it from the new Windows7 64bit primary drive?

(I wasn't sure which sub-forum to ask this question in, hope in here is OK.)

A:Windows7 64 reading windows7 32 drive?

Hi Jaibird,

A hard disk is not 32-bit or 64-bit and does not depend upon the installed OS.

Yes, in some parts and no in others.
You can access files/folders from the partition Hard Disk (Documents, Photos, Favourites).. But you cannot get the messages saved in outlook.

Be advised that the (Documents, Photos, Favourites) will NOT merge into your current Windows 7 64-Bit.

Hello,
I have a new Dell XPS9530 which has a software application that was installed by default called "True Color" which is normally in the task bar near the clock.
I ordered the official Dell OEM Windows 8.1 disk (red in color) and the XPS 9530 Driver CD (Gray in Color) and did a fresh install on my computer.  Neither disk contains the previously installed True Color application and I also don't see it on the downloads section on the Dell website.
Technical support was not familiar with this application so I didn't get very far - was just told to reinstall everything which I've already done.
Where is the True Color Application and why isn't it on the recovery disks since it was installed by default from the factory?

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

A:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE [email protected]#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

A:Dell 8900, Gaming Computer, Dell Alienware Aurora

There is a power issue with the external hard drive.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

A:Dell computer occasionally stuck on Dell screen

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

I believe the replacement battery you are after is a CR2032. If in doubt take the flat battery to your electronics store and ask for the equivalent. They're not very expensive.

I purchased windows7 for when it comes out in Oct. My question is this
I have vista 32-bit and can do an inplace upgrade to windows7 32-bit.
Can I also do a dual boot and run windows7 64-bit on a second hdd? On the same machine!
Will I have to purchase a second key or would the same key work for both
32-bit and 64-bit?
If I install the 32-bit win7 can I upgrade to 64-bit using the same key or
do I have to purchase a second key to do This?

A:windows7-32bit & windows7 64-bit

To the best of current thinking says the same key will work both 32 & 64 bit. you can dual boot both and should be able to use the same key.
Good luck and welcome to 7 Forum.

I have a dell, given to me by a friend who wanted it formatted and gave me a cd to install. I did all of that, but now i realise i was stupid as the cd given was a dell cd so it didnt have all the drivers!

Now i need help ID-ing the dell which conveniently has the face plate on the front taken off!

Its a dell with Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 on it. It has a 320gb hard drive, 1gb ram, 3.20Ghz clock. It also as a TV card and a wireless card in it. A cd/dvd writer too. The service tag number is on the PC but whenever i give it to dell they tell me it is not valid.

Everything is working but the device manager tells me i need drivers for
- audio device on high def audio bus
- multimedia video controler
sm bus controller
video controller
video controller vga compatale
ethernet controller

its been a long day and maybe i am just being silly but can anybody ID this dell?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
My touch-pad does not work anymore, so i have tried several drivers from synaptics and so on. It gave me some results, but after some time, the touch-pad just went on and off completely random. After this, the touch-pad died, and has not worked since. I have tried drivers, drivers and more drivers. Nothing seems to be working. I'm able to go into "Dell touchpad" then when i try to push the "touchpad settings button" nothing happens - does not react at all. Hopefully someone can help me

Computer is Dell Xps 16
OS vista 32bit

A:Dell touchpad driver

The only thing I'd tell you is look in the BIOS for touchpad options. Run Dell diagnostics by pressing F12 and booting with diagnostic partition. It may be able to test the touchpad so you can rule out windows problem or PC problem.

If not, it's dead and they'll need to replace your palmrest. If you have still under warranty you may have next day onsite or return to depot warranty. The former is better.

Need some help with a driver. In "device manager" I've got a "yellow ?". I need a driver for "PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATIONS CONTROLLER". Cannot find in it Dell's driver download page. There's only 15 of 50 drivers that seem to apply for this service tag. What category would be in & what does it do? The reformatted and reinstall of XP seems to run fine! I am trying to debug a BSOD on an HP-180t. I am checking all my drivers. I can't seem to find a driver for my monitor. It is a Dell 1707FP. The Dell web site does not list a driver for Vista or for Windows 7 for the 1707FP.

Is anyone using this monitor for Windows 7?

I had to return my first 180t. I tried to get HP Support to help me debug the BSOD problem. They had me try a few things. The last thing was to update the BIOS. After the update the 180t would not even boot. Just had it a week so I sent it back and ordered another. Waiting for that one to arrive.

A:Driver for Dell 1707FP

I very much doubt a driver for your monitor would cure a bsod , it just tells the OS what monitor you have and installs a colour profile , thats about all the drivers do but they are here is you want em

Drivers and Downloads

dont worry about the operating system it doesnt matter , you will have to manually install the colour prfile though , the driver install will put them in the right place just goto colour management in control panel and select it from the ICC profiles list

First post here !

I was planning on doing a clean install of Windows on my Dell XPS. I have never reinstalled Windows before. However, I would consider myself pretty knowledgable when it comes to computers.

Dell Community

I have been following this tutorial but I am confused on the Step 5. I visited

Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

and got 54 files but I am clueless which ones I actually need to download and in what order. I also have the Dell Drivers and Utilities Disk but I don't know if I should use that.

Lastly, I have a reinstallation DVD that came with my laptop but it does not have SP1 (I am currently running SP1 now). Should I download it now or just do it through Windows Update?

Hi guys, I was just wondering, if anyone knew about a newer firmware or driver software that I could find for the Optical Drive of my Dell XPS M1530.

The problem is that I'm testing Windows 7 SP1 (V 1.53, btw). Yeah... Yeah... I know... Since is not an official release I can't hope for it to work or have them available, etc... etc...

But, I felt a considerable speed up in my system, and almost all bugs and slowdowns that my Win 7 64 bit had, were resolved, or were not presented.

I really need a driver that can actually support it, if exists, if not, well... got to wait for the main release... ()

Thanks

A:Dell audio driver

Hope this is more an experiment in getting Windows 7 to run on it, than an attempt to make it a viable OS on that laptop. In technology terms that laptop is a dinosaur; I found a review on it from October 2001 and can find references to drivers even older (Win 95/98 era).

All things considering if you really want to attempt to run Windows 7 on it and have sound, get either an external sound card or USB speakers (assuming the USB ports are up to it and available).
