Please guide me how I can get a driver for my brother printer HL -1030 for Windows 7. I called Brother office in Canada and they say this printer is not compatible with Windows 7. Is there any other printer driver I can download and get my printer working.
Thanks in advance.
You should be able to use the XP drivers and install them in compatibilty mode.
Here's a link to the XP Home/Pro 32-Bit Drivers
Brother Solutions Center: HL-1030: Downloads: Others
To run the installer in compatibility mode:
Right Click Installer > Properties > Compatibility > Select the OS you want. (In this case, XP)
I've installed a Brother HL-1240 laser printer on a new Windows 8 computer. Brother says that Windows has built in the driver for this printer. Sure enough, the printer appears on my device list. However, the printer preferences says that the maximum resolution is 300 dpi. The specs for the printer clearly state a max resolution of 600 dpi.
When I used the printer on an XP computer I got 600 dpi.
Has anyone else run into the problem of the Windows 8 printer drive not allowing the maximum printer resolution?
Any solution? I chatted with Brother support and they said that since Windows created the drive that there was nothing Brother could do.
BTW - The printer functions in Windows 8, it just can't supply the max resolution so many of my pdf prints look pixelated.

Just my two cents but I seriously doubt that the Win 8 developers are in the driver development business for all 3rd party hardware. Just because it is inherently available via Windows 8 installation methods does not mean that it was created by the Windows 8 developers. With that said, I would be going back to Brother support and tell them that "they" made a mistake when they submitted that Win 8 driver for inclusion in the Win 8 operating system. Specifically, they forgot (or knowingly) did not include the 600 DPI option. And, while you are at it, ask them if there might be an alternative driver (w/600 DPI) available that might work for your specific printer. Good luck.
I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit version and the install of the Brother DCP 7065DN is causing me grief.
The copy and scan functions are operable, but not the printer function.
I am logged in as Administrator in Vista.
Printing a test page returns an "access is denied" message.
So I try to open as administrator and trying the Print test page, returns message "Printer not installed"
I have tried the XP compatibility mode as well as XP and Win7 printer drivers but no success.
I have had no problem installed the printer on another hard drive with Win 7
Brother says my Vista is corrupted and contact support.microsoft.com . How nice, Doing a web search, it seems that Brother definitely has compatibility issues with Vista judging on all the posts. Unfortunately I see few solutions.
Any takers out there?

Am trying to install my printer brother HL-1070.
Brother indicates that a driver can be found through Windows Updates for the HL-1060. HL-1070 or 1060, it is basically the same so that would be fine for me.
Only if I follow the instructions for using Windows Updates I do not get any printers on the list of available printers. None at all.
If I go the other way (troubleshooting the unspecified printer) windows tries to get a driver for HL-1070 and can't find it.
How can I get windows to look for the HL-1060 driver ???? Or where can I get hold of the driver... if microsoft has it ?
I trust this will get sorted out cause there are so many knowledgeable and helpful people here... thanks for sharing your solutions

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Hi, I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
My Brother p-touch QL-500 printer is USB connected.
My main hard drive, the C drive, is an SSD drive, just in case that matters.
My p-touch printer, which I use for address labels, worked OK until I installed it on a new PC, using the installation disk.
The installation seemed to work OK, until I tried to use the machine.
Then a message flashed up to say the drive was broken.
I re-installed it from the Brother downloads page and it seemed OK.
then I found that if I tried to make an address label it was OK until I got to the part where I click on 'check media'.
Then a message flashed up to say 'printer offline or no media', neither of which was correct.
If I ignored the message and continued through to the print stage, nothing happened except that the green light on the machine flashed rapidly until I turned the machine off.
The label position-er or reset button works fine.
Seemed like a software fault, so I uninstalled and re-installed the driver from the Brother downloads site. Now I again get a message to say the driver is broken.
I'd be grateful for any advice.
If you check posts by chuy123, he had the same problem as I do.An error message appears during installation of the Brother printer driver as follows: "An error occurred when copying file BRSM9569CDW_0000.DSI. Cannot copy file to destination directory." I spent over an hour with a Level 5 tech support person at Brother and he could not solve the problem. Any suggestions as to what can possilby be blocking the file from being copied?

I have been unable to find a Windows 7 driver for my Brother HL 1440 printer.
Has anyone an idea of where I can get one or if even exists?
Brother: HL-1440: Downloads: Drivers: United States
Try this one, and maybe try to run it in Vista or Xp Comp.
Brother UK tell me they have no plans for providing a driver for this printer, which runs under XP, which means I am going to have to junk it and also a HP Scanjet 4370. Any solutions? There must be millions of such devices heading for the junkyard simply because of the success of Win 7
Don't junk your printer
Run a Virtual XP machine --your printer will still work.
D_SetUP.exe executes until it reaches the point of bringing down latest firmware. fter than nothing happens, but the printer shows up on the printer list. But no icon appears and the printer doesn't show under all programs list or on the control panel programs list.

OK, so I grew a big pair of cajones and decided to just "go for it" on my main machine and try the inplace upgrade. I crossed my fingers and started setup off the DVD then downloaded the updated setup files...
BTW - I have previously run the Win7 upgrade advisor and found a few mobo drivers I knew I'd need to update afterwards like SATA RAID. No other issues were reported.
When I crossed my fingers and clicked upgrade, I waited anxiously... then a dialog box popped up informing me that I had issues that needed to be resolved before setup could continue:I need to update my laser printer driver <---???
I need to possibly remove iTunes <-- that's no big deal!
So, I closed setup and went to brothers support site looking for drivers... None were listed but I found a link to the Win7 driver update release schedule. Guess what these ID10Ts are doing with my driver??? Not gonna be released until December 2009!!! WTH??? Here is their release schedule: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...r_schedule.pdf
As a teacher one peripheral I rely on heavily is my printer...
MY QUESTION IS: IS ANYONE HERE USING THIS PRINTER WITH WIN7 AND ARE YOU HAVING ANY ISUES USING THE LAST VISTA DRIVER?
More info on the issue:
According to Microsoft my printer is compatible...
However, a support call to Brother confirmed that they will not have Win7 drivers until early December as shown in the release schedule above!
SO BACK TO THE QUESTION... IS ANYONE RUNNING THIS PRINTER WITH WIN7???
printer driver problem. Printer Model: Brother HL-730DX
Computer: Compaq Presario 8000 with XP Home
Background: There is no driver called HL-730DX in the vendor-supplied version of XP (I also downloaded the latest Win updates from Microsoft and looked on the Brother download site.) Brother says there, about win XP, that the driver is included. Brother has no XP driver available. I spoke with a Brother rep on the phone - same story.
There are drivers called HL-730+ and HL-730 600 DPI. I tried both with the same results - I now have the HL-730+ driver installed.
1. Each time I start the computer, whether from "system standby" or "cold boot", if the printer is turned on, I get the "new hardware found" window and “bubbles”. I just click "cancel" but I have to do it every time. The same thing happens if I turn on the printer when the computer is already on. How do I stop this?
2. Nearly every time I print for the first time in a session the printer spews out page after page – some blank – some with gibberish at the top. I can stop the process only by removing all paper from the feeder, causing the printer to pause. I turn off the printer power; delete the document from the printer queue (this takes about 45 seconds to a minutes after I select cancel to happen); replace the paper; turn on the printer and re-send the job. Usually printing works OK for the session after that?
I think this may be caused by a signal sen... Read more

Last week i installed Brother MFC 9340 drivers and softwares for printing, scanning for Mac. It worked fine. But today i could't find those applications in my MacBook I didn't uninstall it. When i try to reinstall it, it shows the progress bar for a second and then disappears. Although my printer and scanner does get displayed system preference. But its good for the basic operation
Is there something wrong with these application that Mac rejected? Can someone help me in resolving this issue?
Hope this is the correct Forum for Printer questions.
Is it ?
Have a 5 yr old Brother printer (HL-2140) which uses a TN-360 ink Cartridge.
A Brother branded "high yield" TN-360 goes for about $ 50. Wow.
I see that Amazon carries several other non Brother, but supposedly compatible
TN-360 cartridges by mfg. names I've never heard of.
Much, much cheaper.
Am willing to try one, but am very uncertain which of the brands to go with.
Anyone have any experience with non Brother labeled "compatible" cartridges ?
Any good ?
Which Brand should I try, perhaps ?
Note: It's almost worth buying a brand new Brother printer instead !
Thought on ?
You will likely find that the answer to this question falls into 2 major camps:
Only use OEM, branded ink from the printer manufacturer (or a trusted, high-volume, reputable seller), OR
It's perfectly fine to use knockoff, refurb, non-branded
I don't know anything about Brother, as I have been using HP printers/all-in-ones since the days of the printing press.
No matter which brand, in the printer industry, the ink/toner is how the manufacturer makes its money, not on the hardware.
There are many factors in the risk:benefit calculation, such as budget, volume of printing needs, need for optimal performance, etc.
My own personal experience for relatively heavy home/home office use is that it is not worth skimping on the cost of discounted ink/toner.
There can be serious quality issues with the cheap stuff (even branded, refurbished ones).
And there can be quality issues even when buying "new" OEM ink/toner from 3rd-party sites or even brick and mortar big box stores (the items may be legit, but they are stale).
If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
HP has a terrific ink/toner program -- 2 or 3 mouse clicks and I have the products on my doorstep 1 or 2 business days later, with free shipping. The price is highly competitive, and the ink/toner is always fresh and high-quality. This works very well for me.
Your mileage may vary, of course....
P.S. Did you resolve the other issue reported HERE??? If so, it helps us (a... Read more
I just set up my new Dell with Windows 7. I connected it to my Brother MFC-8840D printer with a USB connection. Windows 7 recognized the printer and set it as default. But I cannot print anything. I called Brother, and the person said that the proper driver was in the computer. However, she then sent me an email which indicated that Brother does not offer a driver for this unit with Windows 7, but that an appropriate driver can be found on Windows Update. I had no success going to Windows Update. Does anyone have an idea (short of having to buy a new printer)?
I'd try to get clarification from the tech support person about getting a working driver via Windows Update, and why it didn't work for you.
If Brother has a Vista driver try that.
Or try the Vista or XP driver using the Troubleshoot Compatibility option (assuming you have a self-installing executable right click on it to get that option). You can spend the better part of an afternoon with the "recommended" settings, and with XP or Vista with various service pack levels. Oh, and sometimes this works. Start reading from post # 18 in this thread to see how this technique worked for some USB wireless adapters.
I'm trying to figure why this keeps happening and how to get my printer offline. I've gone to Print Management, right-clicked on the printer (under the 'All Printers' list), went to 'Properties', and have no idea what to do next. I've looked at similar questions
on your Tech support page and it looks like there are answers but no helpful ones. Everyone seems to be having issues with Windows 8 and their printers being offline. Please help!
Hi, I cannot re-install my brother printer HL2170W. I have seen here a post that had the link to the website for the latest drivers...went there and when i unzip the file there is no setup file or even an executable file that gets zipped. Am i missing something?
Prior to this, I ran the install of the latest drivers (I think) from the website for 64 bit vista. Then it went through the installation and completed but the printer does not show up on the control panel. So, that is why I tried to follow the instructions posted here.
Recently got a new laptop (with windows 10) and switched to cable internet.
My printer says it is connected to wifi, my laptop is connected
I can only print if it is connected with a cord
someone said it could be a windows 10 issue??
my printer is a brother mfc-j875dw
HELP greatly appreciated!!!
Hi and welcome!
I found these steps from Brother's support section of their website.
1. Turn off your Brother machine. Wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.
Wait at least three minutes for the machine to join the network.
If the issue continues, go to STEP 2.
2. Use the Network Connection Repair Tool to fix the Brother machine's network settings. It will assign the correct IP address and the Subnet Mask.
> Click here to see how to use the Network Connection Repair Tool
If the issue continues, go to STEP 3.
3. Check your machine's wireless status by printing the WLAN report.
> Click here to check the wireless status on the WLAN report.
If your WLAN report is stating "Connection OK", although you can not print, refer to "Check the wireless status on the WLAN report" and check "Connection: OK"
I cannot find a driver when trying to install the printer over my home network.Printer is installed and working on Dell XP 3100
Printer has prevously been installed via usb on Tosh Win 7
Printer & file sharing are set up on both computers
Files and printers can be seen from the Tosh that are on the Dell.
When i try to install, I get error message that a driver cannot be found. Remeber the printer is installed locally on both machines... so drivers are present.
Does anyone know how to direct to the driver? I do not have an printer install disc... installed from download.
With my Brother, running the downloaded installer finds the printer already on he network. Sets it up and install the drivers. Otherwise, W& will try to use it's geneic WSD, which is not bidirectional.
I did have a problem that I resolved by completely uninstalling and re-running the latest installer from Brother's website. Hope that helps.
Hello everyone, I have been trying to get my wireless working on my Dell Inspiron n5110 on Windows 7 64 bit to no avail. In device manager I have the error "code 10 this device cannot start" I have tried almost everything so far. Reinstalled drivers multiple times, with multiple versions. I have replaced the adapter even though I knew it was a software problem because the wireless works on a live boot Ubuntu and as a last resort I have reinstalled Windows and installed all the proper drivers but still nothing. Any thoughts on what I could be missing or some suggestions?

I am trying to install a x86 driver for a Brother MFC-6490CW printer on a Windows 2008 64 bit server for purposes of being able to print on a local printer (being the MFC-6490CW) on a Windows XP 32bit platform via remote desktop. I have downloaded the 32 bit driver and gone into "Devices and Printers", then into "Printer server properties", clicked on "drivers" and "add", unticked X64 and ticked x86, pointed to where I have extracted the driver and it keeps asking me for a NTPRINT.INF file which I have tried to point to but have not had any luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I own a Brother MFC 9340 multi function printer. I do a lot of scanning and printing using this machine. I own MacBook pro 15. Which uses Brother Control Centre for scanning.
Is it possible to scan multiple photographs using ADP? When I scan a photograph it doesn't automatically crops the photo area with rest of the white space. I have to manually do it. Can someone suggest me a solution?
My brother printer won't print double sided ever since my hard drive crashed. I have a new hard drive now. I completely uninstalled printer and started over from scratch. Updated software and driver. My iPad will print to the printer and do double sided printer but not my laptop. What else can I do?

Windows 7 Professional
Haven't had the need to use my printer in a couple of weeks, so I don't know when the problem started. It is a Brother HL-2270DW that has been problem free. There are tests that can be tried using the printer itself and it says it has a good connection and should be functioning.
Nevertheless, when I click on print, the available choices are Microsoft XPS Document writer and Fax; the Brother unit is not included as an option. When I enter the control panel and look at the devices, my printer is mentioned with a Troubleshooting necessary indicated, but letting the troubleshooter do its job does not provice any suitable result.
I returned to a restore point the 23 of this month, but am not wanting to go much further back, because except for the printer problem, my computer is working great, and I don't want to remove necessary updates, etc. that might create a whole new problem.
I have shut down for half minute and restarted the printer to see if it might provide a benefit, but when I restart the printer, it's self trouble shooting feature suggest that the unit is both attached and working properly. Toner is over 90% remaining. BTW it is wifi and my router seems to be working perfectly. Drivers are latest.
Thanks for any input!
Do you have it setup as a wireless printer? If so, reinstall the printer driver but use a USB cable initially.
Once that is working then setup wireless.
If you don't have the CD or can't find it, the drive is available from the Brother web site (I have the same printer).
Canon do not support their BJ30 printer on a Windows 7 64 bit OS, and do not supply drivers. Does anyone know how I can use this printer on this OS, by perhaps using similar drivers etc? Thanks.

It prints alright but extends every page of trial balance into two pages. For every page, it prints

it uses 4 pages for 2 pages of print material. If it can print 2 more lines on a page, then it can

Is there a compression code that I can use to increase the no. of lines that the printer will

I have a Brother All In One which was working fine in Windows 7 but is now contstantly showing up as "offline" in the print queue. I have a home network with my "main" machine my desktop running Win 7. I have 2 other laptops - one is a HP with Vista, and the other is a Macbook Pro. I have been able to print today from the laptops, but the desktop (Win 7) tells me that the machine is offline. To be clear, the machine is on, and is connected to my network.
Windows 7 is being stubborn and is not recognizing that it's online. I've printed to it in the past and now it's not cooperating (when I need it to, of course).

When printing, the printer box opens and says "printer off line" when it isn't off line. This happens about every 3rd print job. Any ideas? Regards
Have you made sure that the Plug that goes into the printer and PC is secure? It may be loose.
Also, what version of Windows are you running? Now, go to Control panel | System. Device Manager. Under Printers, is there a yellow !
A few months ago I bought a new laptop (Compaq Presario C700, nothing special), which brought me my first (sometimes frustrating) experiences with Windows Vista. I now want to use a printer my uncle gave me; a Brother HL - 1030 Laser Printer.
Now my problem: I can't install proper driver software.
I have the software, but it won't install. It says that NT 4.0 drivers are blocked by an enabled policy on my computer. I've found something on that on this forum (http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/766895-solved-nt-4-0-driver.html) but when I enter a port name, it says: 'the network path was not found.'
I've also searched on the Brother site for help, but they don't have any driver support for Windows Vista and the only service program available for download is to uninstall driver software
I'm a little nooby, but I put in effort to try and solve this.
Please help me do this and get a nice drawing I made as a reward

Hi whats the full model number of the printer? have you tried installing the driver in compatibility mode?4 more replies
Hi, I'm new so hopefully I give you enough info to help me.
I bought a new Brother printer (MFC-7480DN) and connected it first to a Mac and then to my PC. I can't get the wireless to work and it's too late to return it but it is under a year if I need to use the warranty.
I do not have an IP address! I have been through ALL of the troubleshooting on their site. I have reset the Network settings a million times and printed the Network Config page a million times as well. (Dramatized) My printer works flawlessly when connected and I have the correct drivers. I can access the printer settings from their software while connected without a problem.
Here is what the Network Config page says:
Node type: Brother NC-8200h. Ethernet 10/100BASE-TX
Node Firmware Version: Firmware Ver.1.00 (10.10.22)
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet mask: 0.0.0.0
IP Gateway: 0.0.0.0
Boot method: Auto
Boot Tries: 3
IP Filter: Disabled
They all say Enabled except IPv6 and LLTD, Those are both disabled.
Also, when I go through the settings on the printer itself Network->Status->Inactive.
There is more but it's a lot to type so please let me know if you need anything else off that page.
I have also tried to set the IP address myself. I put in 192.000.000.192 because I read that was the default for Brother printers, that did not work. I also set the Subnet mask to 255.255.255.000 while I tried that.
How do I make this work? It's d... Read more
One more thing I tried
I just went into the Printer control menu on my computer and went to "Properties" as the Administrator. Under the heading Port. I picked a port that was not being used. It is called a "Standard TCP/IP Port" and it's IP is 192.168.1.17
I thought this would be ok because another Brother printer I don't have trouble connecting to is using one of the other similar ports.
So then I changed the IP address of my Brother printer to this.. Still isn't working but now when I go back to that spot, my printer's model number is showing up and I feel like I might be getting somewhere, just need a little more info.
I had a paper jam in my Brother MFC 5440-CN. Cleared the jam, but printer still wouldn't print. It was balking because it thought that three of the ink cartridges, which were all at least 1/3 full, were empty.
Usually I've been able to get it to print anyway, but this time I gave up, finally, and replaced the cartridges with new ones; also I unplugged and plugged it, made sure the paper tray was just right, and then - ta-da! - got it to print a page.
Foolishly allowing this success to go to my head, I decided to run the printer through a cleaning cycle, after I printed out a test pattern that was a little bit off. At that point, the printer beeped several times in its charming shrill, high-pitched way, and ever since has been displaying "Unable to print - see troubleshooting and routine maintenance chapter in user's guide". Also, it won't shut down unless unplugged.
There wasn't much that was relevant in the guide, other than things I'd already tried. When I plug it back in and try to print something, it makes a ratcheting sound that is not part of its normal printing sounds, so I turned it over and put some oil on a horizontal metal rod that must be part of the paper feeding mechanism. This did nothing except guarantee greasy print-outs if I ever get this thing going again.
I attempted to reinstall the drivers. The Brother Solution Site says to download them and choose "desktop" for their destination, after which you ca... Read more

I'm trying to install drivers for my Brother MFC 210c printer.
I have uninstalled the old drivers, unplugged the printer, and tried to install the new drivers, BUT ... I get error code 0x80040705? Installation process is terminated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi after uninstalling the driver check the the registry under local machine>software> find the printer name driver,, I mean see if there is any left over there..
you can also try to use revo uninstallator Revo Uninstaller - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com to remove the previous printer driver.. obviously the uninstallation is leaving leftover files..
I have a Brother DCP195C printer that has served me well. I recently had its printer head replaced last month at the service center because got broke and it was cheaper than buying a new one. Last week I printed a lot of pages. When I printed again this morning, the pictures were fuzzy. I used Print Check and this is the result.
*sorry for bad photo quality
But I guess it should be visible enough that the boxes for magenta aren't align. Any idea? Bad printer head? Or something that can be fixed?

You may need to click on the Exceptions tab and make sure there is a check on File and Printer Sharing. If the File and Printer Sharing is not checked then select it to put a check in the box and press OK.

I have a Brother model MFC 5440CN printer. I fill the black cartridge to the point where the ink is bubbling out and it prints just fine until the ink level drops less than 1/8 inch. Then a message comes up saying that the black ink is almost gone. Later, when the cartridge is still basically full, up comes a message telling me to replace the cartridge and no further printing can be done until I fill the cartridge to the top once again.
Anybody got any ideas??
They want you to buy more ink. Their toner cartridges do the same thing, when they have several hundred pages left to print.
My Brother MFC-420cn has an error message that says "Unable to Clean". As a result, it won't print, fax, scan, etc. I've tried everything I can, but nothing has worked, and the Brother documentation is insufficient. What can I do to either get it to clean, ir override the cleaning function?

Tried downloading printer drivers and uploading but when I follow the instructions and plug the printer in it does not recognise it
Hello there, Before you could progress further, please verify if the printer supports win 10 or not. After which, please go to device manager and check if there is an exclamation mark next to the printer. If yes, this means there is a trouble with the driver. If no, this means the drivers are installed on the computer. Uninstall the drivers, and add a printer from control panel. And further, after the printer is added, please right click on the device and choose update driver software. This should work after a restart

I have a Brother DCP 750CW Printer. It is connected via Lan to the router. I have a laptop in another room that connects via wireless to the router - no problem at all. However, it will not print on the printer (wireless)? I can see the printer in my 'printers' control panel, but it says offline.
I have looked at properties but the 'use offline' is not checked.
-uninstalling and reinstalling the printer
-turning the printer off and on again
-turning the router off and on again (at the same time as the printer)
-tried to use the net tool from brother. It says there is an error that can be fixed, but when I click to fix it, it tries for a while then says 'error occurred, program must close'.
I've tried a few other things, but can't remember...I've been here for the last 3 hours
I have also looked online and searched for help, but result was 0
Would appreciate any help anyone can offer!

I have a ink jet Brother mfc240c printer. Recently it stopped printing yellow ink. I replaced the cartridge and still no yellow ink comes out on print outs. All other colors print fine (black, cyan magenta), just not the yellow.
I have tried cleaning the print heads and a deep power clean, through the menus on the printer itself. The ink monitor shows all ink levels to be full.
I am using compatible brother ink cartridges and haven't had an issues out of them for the 3+ years I have owned the printer. Any ideas on how to get the yellow to print again? I talked to Brother tech support and they said they could only help me after I had bought "genuine Brother ink" and was hoping the forum here had some suggestions of things I can try before buying some "genuine Brother ink".
Thanks for the help.
Don't know much about printers myself, but if I wanted to get this fixed I would probably just phone up Brother but tell them its genuine ink, they won't know any different. If they want to take it in to look at just say no, it wil cost you anyway if its 3+ years old and would probably be cheaper to replace it anyway.
I have a Brother 7840 all one printer and I am having an issue. When I send a fax with the machine, it first has to scan the document, when it does so it scans it as a jpg and it comes out unreadable.
Is it possible to set it up so it would scan it as a .pdf file instead?
Is there a way to set it up so the document would readable otherwise?
I feel like the machine is a waste since it cannot send a good fax because of this.
Not real sure on the programs that come with the printer but I use CutePdf to convert docs/jpegs to PDF may want to try it just print to pdf and use that file to fax...
When I try to print the Selection and Current Page options are greyed out. It used to be available so something has been erased or corrupted.
Can anyone help please. I dont use these options very often but they are useful occassionally.

I have a Brother Laser All-In-One, the MFC-7420. It's been a great printer for me for about 2 years now.
The problem started after I installed a new toner cartridge. Ever since then it has been printing small dots down the left side of anything I print. They are about 1/16 of an inch in diameter and spaced about every 3 inches.
I've looked around on the web and found other people having the same problem with Brother All-In-Ones but I've not found a solution.
Firs I tried my original disc but when it get to the part when i have to connect my printer it doesn't do anything. Then i downloaden drivers for windows7 from brother solution center and it shows me the msg : An error has occurred during the instalation. Please restart your PC , ensure sll active applications are closed -then reinstall "MFL-Pro Suite". Can someone tell me how to install the drivers.

I have a new laptop and I'm trying to install my brother printer/scanner and I can't istall it using the CD provided, it says this:
so I tried to look for its driver and I found this one: click here
and my problem is it doesn't have the installer for the scanner... The OS I'm using is Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, I can't find the software which is the "paperport" that would allow me to scan documents/pictures...
You downloaded and installed the "Full Driver & Software Package?"
I'm just wrapping up installation of a new computer, including a clean install of Windows 10. We have a networked Brother MFC-8480DN. I went to Brother's site, retrieved and installed the full driver and software package for this printer and 64-bit Win 10. There were no errors or warnings indicated during the installation. I rebooted the computers, and attempted to print a test page from Word. Nothing happened -- Word didn't give any error messages, but nothing was queued to the printer.
The printer is set as my default printer. The status shows 'working properly'. The device troubleshooter is unable to detect any errors. In attempting to print a test page from the Printer Properties dialog, it immediately pops up with 'Test page failed to print'.
I can "talk" to the printer. There's a web management page which I can reach without problem through a browser. One of the programs installed with the Brother package was a scan and fax utility, which I tried and had no problem scanning something.
So I'm really at a loss what the problem might be, or where to go from here. I hope someone can help.
I have a Brother MFC 9700 printer/copier/scanner/fax at the office. It is a networked printer. When we send something to be printed, it will just keep printing a bunch of pages with just one or two lines of "chicken scratch." If I use Word to print out one page, I just get as many pages as I will let it print of nothing. This happens with many programs (Word, Excel, QuickBooks and more). Sometimes it prints just fine.

I successfully set up a Brother mfc-615w wireless printer on an Acer Win 8 laptop. Initially I was able to print. Briefly on the upper right of the Wordpad screen (after I sent the note to the printer) a message appears saying "Brother MFC-615W printer in error state". I do not see any other reference to an error on the printer screen or computer screen. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Any suggestions as to how this problem can be fixed?
When I tried to install my Brother MFC J265W I've got message:

I press OK installation process was still going on and after few minutes I've got another message:
operation could not be completed (error 0x00000706). The print processor does not exist.
The setup finished and after restart in Control Panel my printer didn't shop up and when I tried to print something my printer was not installed.
Can someone help me to solve this problem? I'll really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
My OS is Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
Sometimes with Vista or Windows 7 you need to install a printer in an un-orthodox way. My suggestion may or may not work, but it's worth a try as it has always worked for me. First un-install your current printer. Then remove the USB cable if that's what you are using. Next shut down your computer. Turn the power on to your printer and plug in your USB cord, then restart you computer. Windows should find your printer and install it. If your drivers are out of date and if you have an internet connection, Windows will go on line and find the latest drivers. Your manual will probably instruct you different, but disregarded what it says and try my suggestion.2 more replies

[I apologize in advance if this question is in the wrong forum category. I wasn't sure so I made a guess.]
Okay, so our house has a wireless printer - a Brother MFC-490CW Printer. It also comes with a scanner, copier, etc.
I had to reconnect to the printer, so I went to "Devices and Printers", right clicked the area and selected "Add Printer", then "Add network, wireless or Bluetooth printer", and then selected the Brother printer we have. I had it run a test print and it printed out fine.
I can still print from this laptop, but for some reason I cannot scan images to this laptop. When I go to the device itself and select "Scan", my laptop's name is not on the list of computers the scanner can scan the image to. I tried to be clever by going to Paint to see if I can scan from there, but the "From scanner and camera" option was greyed out and un-selectable.
I can't call Brother themselves to ask for help because, well, in the past their assistance hasn't really been helpful and all that fruitful. Perhaps there is someone here who can help with this, or can at least point me to a place that could give me assistance?

Hello, I'm helping a blind person out with her printer and can't seem to get the thing to work. She's running 98se. She has a braille printer connected to one parallel port and a scanner to another parallel port.
I've installed a Brother HL5040 via USB but it won't work. Is the USB port COM1 & COM2? The other port is an Epson port LPT1. Can I delete that port? She used to have an Epson and there are traces of Epson all over this pc. I thought LPT1 was a parallel port????
Can someone help me out? A PC guy would do it but he wants $150 just to come over and she can't afford that.
Thanks so much and may God bless,

Hi. I bought a Brother DCP-J315W and set it up to print via my wifi - it worked fine initially. A couple of days ago I tried to print something - but nothing: a message on the PC said that the document couldn't be printed. I tried via USB cable - still nothing. So I reinstalled the software from the CD-ROM and reset the wifi network (even though the LCD showed no problem - full signal). The wifi indicator on the LCD still shows full signal and the report that is printed out after wifi setup shows all OK. But although I can now print via a USB cable, still no luck via wifi. A bald 'cannot print the document' window: SO annoying, as it was working and I haven't done anything in the interim to stop it from doing so (I was away for Christmas and haven't used the PC (Win XP SP3) since I last printed successfully).
Any ideas why the printer now refuses to accept printing via wifi? In Control Panel/Printers, it is shown as being online. Change to offline, back to online. No joy. I can't see what else to do. A message when I go through troubleshooting steps (in vain) tells me to consult my network administrator - which only makes me angrier, this being a home machine!
Advice gratefully received! if it worked once, what's got into it all of a sudden??!
ok so I know this is probably a really dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway. I read on another post that the place to plug the usb cable on the machine was on the back covered by tape (I couldn't find it either, I didn't really think it was covered by tape, more like a piece of plastic!) and now because it's a different shape than I was expecting, I'm wondering what kind of cable I'm supposed to use? I tried looking through the manual but couldn't find anything. And then once I have the cable, do I just plug it into my laptop and it will work? I know, that's an even more stupid question but I never claimed to know anything about anything that plugs into a wall, lol.
More than likely it's an A to B usb printer cable.
Compare it to this.
You will probably need to install driver software.
I purchased a Brother MFC-J870DW Printer in October 2014. I set it up using the included CD to run wirelessly. It worked okay up until my cable connection was disconnected this past week. Because I no longer have wireless, I connected a USB cable from the printer to my computer, didn't work.
At the same time I ran out of the black starter ink and replaced it with a "compatible ink cartridge" and immediately got 'Cannot detect" messages. I understand quite a few people who bought these same cartridges had the same problem. So I have to either purchase expensive OE ink or find a truly compatible ink replacement. I don't know if this will fix the printer problem or if I need to install a different driver/software package?
So now that I don't have wireless, I have to use the USB connection. Everything looks okay in device manager. Devices and Printers has a green check on my printer icon, so I presume the printer is equipped with a USB driver or was installed when I ran the setup CD initially.
I'm not sure if I have the right printer version installed? I right clicked printer, then properties to find out which version printer I had, it initially said Version: 18.104.22.168 (3/4/2013). But then I clicked on that 2nd printer icon to check what that was for, checked the version and it was: Version 1.00en-US. I set that as the default printer to see what would happen, which was nothing. So I switched it back to the original checked printer icon and it is now set as Vers... Read more

I decided to install my printer's software on my computer. During installation, there was an error. I looked a t the information that came with the cd and stated that it can only be used for versions of windows up to xp. I have windows vista. I decided to unistall the program from the add/remove options. It said that there was an error and decided to hide the brother icon in that folder. When i start the computer, the brother program tries to start and states an error.
With this software comes paperport 8.0 SE, which i tried to uninstall separately. An error occurs and the process is stopped. All the programs which came from this software are corrupted.
Any advice on this annoying matter would be much appreciated.
Try System Restore and restore from a date/time before you installed the software. From the Start button, type in System Restore and run it. If that didn't fix the problem, go back to system restore and "Undo" the restore.
NOTE: ALWAYS DO A SYSTEM BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING SOFTWARE OR REMOVING IT.

It was working before I went in to check on it its connected to a network of about 6/7 computers all of a sudden its not printing. So I check all cabling and troubleshoot it, it says something like "unable to find printer on the network". So I reinstalled the drivers and on the installation it detects the printer fine but same issue after install. So I decide to try the scanner and it works fine.... Im not one to use faxes so i didnt try that but im assuming the printer alone is the issue so any tips on how to fix it?

No matter what margins I make, the right margin always prints to the right edge of the paper and all lines are cut off at the ends! After over 2 hours and 15 prints(!!!) I'm giving up. I went to “Properties” and the system reinstalled everything, drivers, updates, I re-checked the paper size, position, etc. and the problem persists.
In the past I was able to reduce the margins on all 4 sides and it was fine. Occasionally a popup message would say something like: "It's out of the printing range", and I'd either print it anyway, or would reduce a bit more on the problem side. But never as persistent to be fixed as now.
I don’t know what else to do. I’d appreciate ever so much any help you can give me.
Hello Adela now have you double checked the margin settings in the Word program because often it is the settings in those programs that is causing the problem. I often set mine to what I want as the default.
One thing you can do is set a simple document up and tell it to print then go to Start then into Devices and Printers > right click on your default printer and then go to "See what is printing" > right click on the document and go to properties then Layout tab see what is there (in pic)
Another simple thing you could do is run these two sans for starters if you have not done so already
SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
Disk Check (you may need to run this using the /f and /r "switches" you will see in the tutorial.
Can someone help me figure out how to get my printer working again. I just moved to another state and perhaps something happened during the move. First it wouldn't print because I needed a new black ink cartridge. That didn't help. Page would print only a graphic or the text was a pale blue impossible to read.
I tried to reinstall with my driver CD, but now the printer won't run at all; won't even try to print a page, doesn't make a sound. And it keeps turning itself off. I use Windows XP Pro. Sure would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

what happens when you install the software ?
I have a new Lenovo Windows 7 PC. I have a Brother MFC-9440CN printer directly attached to it via USB. Per instructions, I did NOT install any Brother software on the new PC. I just connected it via USB and the PC automatically installed the drivers, etc. Printing from that PC to the locally attached printer works like a champ. I have set up this printer via a network share (called BrotherMFC) so I can use this printer from other PCs.
I have a Dell desktop Windows XP PC (that used to be the computer that had this printer locally attached) and a Dell laptop with Windows Vista that I want to access this printer via the network. On each of these PCs, I have gone through the "Add a Printer" wizard and I selected network (vs. local) printer and find the printer share. However when I select the printer share and click OK, it appears to try and install software or something and says the printer driver on the printer server is incorrect. How can this driver be "incorrect" when it is the driver the new PC used to install? Is there a "special" driver the system needs to act as a printer server properly? Or is there any known compatibility issues of printing via a network share form Windows XP and Vista PCs to Windows 7?
I know the most optimum solution is to get a wireless print server, but this solution of using a network/printer share over the network has worked great and saves me having to spend $80/$100 on a wireless print server.

I need help getting my printer to work with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I had to re-install due to a CMOS error which I think was due to a dead battery. It still could be something else seeing as I have had other problems with this install (explained below). Anyway, the printer is an old Brother MFC 8300 (it has been a workhorse!). Previous times I have re-installed Windows there haven't been any problems with this printer. I simply install the driver from Windows Update (the driver is named "Brother MFC8600/9650 Series" in the device manager). But this time the "Windows Update" installed the driver and says everything is working properly but when I go to "Devices and Printers" it doesn't show up under "Printers and Faxes". There is a listing for "USB Composite Device" under "Devices" that shows "Brother MFC8600/9650 Series" as a scanner. Not sure what that means.
I also tried to manually download the driver from "catalog.update.microsoft.com". I downloaded 2 different versions of the driver. One has a file size of 2.0 MB and the other has a files size of 2.3 MB. I ended up not installing either because I didn't know where the proper destination location was using the "Expand" command from the "Command Prompt" with "expand <CAB FILE NAME> -F:* <DESTINATION>". I think the file size for the "Windows Update" file ... Read more

That means your unit is a MultiFunction device and include Printer, Fax, Copier and Scanner. Sometimes the scanner part will be picked up as a separate device because Win7 has a built-in function for scanning.

Dear Brother Customer:
Brother does not have a printer driver available for this model. Most operating systems include printer drivers with their installation program. Please check the manufacturer’s web site of your operating system to see if support is available for this model. If your operating system does not support this model, then this model is not supported.

I have a Brother MFP640 printer, which is "wireless capable"?. I ran a cable from the printer to my wireless router. The printer is also hard-wired to the PC next to the router.
The printer works fine from the hard-wired PC, however when I try to send something to print from another PC in the house communicating via the wireless, the printer is always "off-line" and the document never prints.
Each wireless PC sees the printer, recognizes it and installs it; and each can make it print a test page; but they don't see the printer as "on-line" when trying to print from Word, Excel, Notepad, etc.
Is there something I can do in set-up to make this printer work as wireless (without losing the ability to print from the hard-wired pc)? THANKS
according to product specs, it has Built in wireless
I am struggling with getting the printer to print from the PC.
I have successfully connected the printer to the AP utilizing the WPS button on the printer and the web based management system for the Ubee DDW365 AP (http://192.168.0.1/) utilizing the WPS feature.
After the WPS configuration has completed i get the success screen and the printer automatically prints a report. The report shows my connection is OK. The printer has an ip address.
However, when i try and send a print job from my PC, the job is queued but will not print. The printer monitor status shows "offline".
How can i get my PC and my printer to communicate? My PC is wired. Not wireless. The printer is wireless, but i also have tried connecting the USB from printer to PC. Still no success printing.
The ip address that shows up on the status monitor in my task bar shows a different ip address than shown in the web based management system of the AP.

I face a problem with my MFC-J4510DW all-in-one printer. And I can be pretty sure that it happened the first time after Windows 10 migration. My printer is connected to a router. The router sees it in the local network. Windows 10 sees the printer too through the local network. But everytime i try to install the Brother Utilities and drivers package, the installation routine doesn't find my printer on the local network. I donwloaded a brother utility that scans the network but finds a printer with.... old IP adress (192.168.1.101, whereas now it's in 192.168.1.110, because i try to make some tests in IP adresses attribution, thinking the problem could come from that...).
So, when I install the package, the only to make it work is to enter manually the IP adress of the printer.
After that, the Brother status icon shows me "Printer out of line"... but I can print and scan from my computer.
The problem is that SCANNING from the screen of the computer is impossible, it alerts me everytime i try to do it "Check connection"... My children and my wife found this possibility very cool and easy (because they don't have to use the ControlCenter software), and now they are complaining and they are right to do so...
What is very strange is that I can reach the 192.168.1.110:80 Brother administration page and all seems to work fine...
I called 2 times Brother support, they are unable to solve my prob... Read more
no updates, guys ?
running Windows XP Home & FireFox. my printer is connected via a USB port. when i try to print, the printer display shows 'receiving data', the printer icon on the monitor task bar disappears (as in the doc has printed) but i don't get a physical printed doc. i use PaperPort a lot so i switch back & forth between hard copies & virtual copies. the virtual copies aspect works fine, just can't get hard copies. i have tried disconnecting the power cord, didn't help. suggestions, please!

I have found that my Brother print scanner will not function in 8.1
I have a desktop running 8.1 and a laptop running 7. Both have the drivers loaded for the Brother printer.
The desktop is connected to a wireless router with a LAN cable, the laptop is connected wireless.
On the desktop I can PRINT to the printer but the scanner function returns a message that "cant find the printer"
On the laptop I can print to the printer and also scan without problems.
After several emails back and forth to Brother support the issue was not resolved.
I had a spare hard drive which I loaded windows 7 on in the desktop and loaded the printer driver also.
Under windows 7 the printer and scanner functions work perfectly on both machines leaving me with the impression that windows 8.1 printer/scanner drivers are not capable of running the scanning function.
Anyone else come across this problem?
I show that there are 8.1 drivers available at Downloads | MFC-J870DW | United States | Brother Make sure you are using the proper ones for the OS install (x32 or x64).
If you do the Full software install. Then when you scan to the printer when it is connected to the Wifi network, it should work. Also keep in mind that the majority of wifi printers, will only work on a wireless-b/g wifi network.
