Reinstallation of W-LAN driver doesn't work

Q: Reinstallation of W-LAN driver doesn't work

Hi,
I?ve got some problem with my W-LAN device. Recently I?ve got a strange feeling about it because some things didn?t work correctly, so I decided to reinstall the driver. It didn?t work directly (I don?t know why), so I tried to uninstall it first, to install it again. Now I got this message:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

An update for the latest driver was useless because I already got the latest one. I tried both installing it from the device manager several times, which failed everytime with this message to come, and by the driver setup (there is a folder available on my computer with all drivers installed on it), which seemed not to have any effect, although it said "Installation complete". Has anyone a solution for me?
I?m going to reinstall my Windows soon, but it?ll take some weeks to that. But until that, I need my W-LAN to work again!
I?ve got Win 7 Home Premium 32bit, my W-LAN device is a Broadcom 802.11g, my notebook is a Lenovo G550.

Thanks for any help, Bennington

A: Reinstallation of W-LAN driver doesn't work

First go into Device Manager (right click on Computer and choose properties, then Device Manager), then go ahead and delete the Broadcom device under Network adapters. Then try and install only the most recent Lenovo supplied driver for your laptop model. Let us know how that goes...

I tried to boot up with the Reinstallation DVD and it doesn't work. I can't even get into Safe Mode. I can accesses the F2 or F12 menus when I start up the computer.

Please help, and while I'm pretty computer savvy, I need simple directions (I really hope there are some!)

I think that if you change the boot priority, you will be ok
Boot Priority - Change
If that does not work, test the DVD in another computer, it may be defective.

I recently bought a C.D. and wanted to upload it to iTunes and put it on my iPod, but it would not load. I thought, "Oh, it must have a security thing." So I tried it in a C.D. player. It worked. I tried once more with the computer, and it failed. The driver shows up. But there is no C.D. I even tried another C.D. to see if it was just the one I had bought, but it wasn't. Any ideas?

A:My CD Driver doesn't want to work.

Hi lol_alex_lol30 and welcome to TSF

I can help you with some basics, but you will need to check further to get all the data you need, as I don't upload to iTunes.

I'm assuming you bought an audio CD. I'm also assuming that iTunes would like to see MP3 audio files....You will need to find that out. This though, is true. When you burn an audio CD from music files, those files are most likely in the form of WAV on your harddrive. They are burned onto the CD with a .cda extension and are named track 1, track 2, etc. The song names are not shown on the CD if you view it with Windows Explorer.

Extracting songs from an audio CD to harddrive is called ripping the song. Songs end up on your harddrive in the form of "songname.wav". songname will be Track1, Track2, etc. and you will have to rename each to have the actual song title associated with the song. WAV files are quite large and about 24 songs is the maxium that you can burn onto an audio CD.

Mpeg level 3 (MP3) is a compression specification that can be used to make much smaller audio files. A 20,000,000 (20 meg) WAV file will compress into a MP3 file that is about 2 meg or less. A file that is 10 to 11 times smaller than the WAV file. I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that small files upload much faster than very large ones. Also you can put about 240 mp3 files on a CD, but only about 24 wav files. You could also appreciate that your ear can't tell the difference between the sound of... Read more

Hello,

In Windows 7, I am trying to figure out if I have any faulty drivers. I have been having BSODs for a while, and I've removed RAM etc. So the next step was to test drivers.

But I can't run Driver Verifier. No matter which drivers I select, the Driver Verifier causes a blue screen as the windows 7 logo starts to come together. I have to clear the settings in Safe mode to get it back.

Is there any way to fix this, or any other way to check my drivers?

(My most recent BSODs have said caused by dxgmms1.sys and tcpip.sys -- lots of IRQL_not_less_or_equal and system_thread_exception_not_handled.)

A:Driver Verifier Doesn't Work...

The purpose of Driver Verifier is to cause a Blue Screen of Death.
Analysis of the memory dump files will then (if it's worked) let the analyst know what driver caused it.

You'll know this because there will be a Driver Verifier Enabled memory dump.

FWIW - I had a system at work today that would spit out the IRQL error messages, but not the Driver Verifier Enabled error messages. I finally enabled all settings in Driver Verifier and then rebooted. An hour and a half later the system was still booting with the Windows 7 splash screen.

The point here is that the settings that you use in Driver Verifier are critical - and are determined by the type of BSOD events you are getting (for example, if you have BAD_POOL_CALLER errors, then you want to enable the POOL checking options in Driver Verifier).

Please zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory and upload/attach the .zip file to your next post.

Every time I start up the computer, my video card stops working. When I look in Device Manager, it shows the video card there, but with an exclamation mark by it which means it's in a 'problem state'. I can fix it by reinstalling the driver, but I have to do this every time I turn it on! How do I make it work every time?

Dear Sir,
yesterday I installed windows 7 home premium x64
Before installing nvidia driver it runs well with windows default video performace (800x600).
But after installing nvidia driver, it doesn't work perfectly
MY problems after installing nvidia driver
1. It runs well before showing the start up window (welcome window where I have to entry my password)
2. But when I run the windows in safe mode it works perfectly
3. You can say that it is for driver problem / driver software problem. But I used the driver in the previous windows 7 home premium x64
If you need anything related with my problem, then comment in down
Thanks.

A:Doesn't work video driver

Hi rx123yz. Your issue sounds like that Windows have installed its own drivers over new ones that you installed. Remove all the old drivers and use Driver Sweeper. This little software removes all the bits of the old drivers. Below is the link to download the S/W. Before uninstalling the old drivers, download the latest drivers for your card from Sevenforums or from Nvidia site and install them after uninstalling and sweeping off the old drivers with driver sweeper.

Hey guys,

Yesterday I formatted and reinstalled windows Vista on my new Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. I've gone through the whole driver CD, installed everything there, but wireless still doesn't work! It doesn't find any networks. I realize that the drivers CD just has the default 1720 drivers, so some things might be different (for example, the default video card is 8400, but mine has an 8600, and the driver for that isn't on the CD). Perhaps I require a different wireless driver?

If that is the case, how do I know which one I have and where to get the propoer driver for it?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

Hello. I have Radeon HD 3850 AGP and Win7, and I tried to do almost everything ...
I installed 9.12 drivers, 9.12 drivers with adding CL_91526 from the topic above), 9.11 drivers, 9.11 drivers with Hotfix (ATI), 9.11 drivers with adding CL_91526, manual driver install by right click . Absolutely no changes and everytime the same ... During and after installing (before reboot) no changes in Device Manager, having "ATI Radeon 3850 " (or "ATI Radeon 3800 series" or something like that...) with yellow triangle and Microsoft Co. driver. And after reboot no changes with it, an error message with something like "Driver didn't install correctly, please install proper driver" ( though in ATI install log you can see that everything was installed succesfully). So after reboot I still see my VGA like "ATI Radeon 3800 series" with Microsoft driver and of course no changes in monitor resolution and all. If I try to delete microsoft driver (and device), and then install radeon drivers , during installation I absolutely just don't have any VGA in Device manager. And after reboot Win7 "finds" VGA and install from internet microsoft driver, so I can see "ATI Radeon HD 3850 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.1)" in Device Manager.

I think that radeon drivers don't install (or don't install correctly), and Win7 ignores (or doesn't see) them.

Please help... Maybe I do something wrong ?...

Welcome to seven forums AngieM: Unfortunately you have a pretty old system a socket 478 board I would suggest first off to use 32 git seven and try the method in this thread to try and get your driver to install. Not every systems hardware is up to running windows seven Install AGP Drivers for HD 3850, 3650, 2400 PRO This is the only method I know of that will install the agp driver, Are you sure you are following the directions EXACTLY the way they are written and installing form device manager? If so then it is possible your system may just be to outdated to run win 7 Sorry to tell you but?. Fabe I wanted to add you might want to uninstall the driver then use driver sweeper to make sure all remnants of the previous driver are removerd before trying again http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum, I'm not sure if this should be in graphics cards or drivers...or somewhere else entirely.

I have an Intel 845GL Chipset....I can't find a driver to make it work using Vista.

Do I have to buy a new graphic card? Or am I missing something easy, or is there a work around?

A:Work around? Intel doesn't supply a vista driver.

Ok, I am resolved to replacing my video card.

I've never replaced a video card before, but I've upgraded memory, installed a hard drive and a modem before...is replacing a video card more complicated than that?

And, where should I start in determining what is compatible for my system/Vista etc?

The Stylus Pro 7600 is now a really old printer, the last supported driver was for XP but it worked in Windows 7 and I believe to some extent in 8 although I never did try it.

It s a really good reliable large format printer though and very affordable in parts, ink and the second-hand purchase price.

However alas Windows 10 doesn't like it, I did the upgrade to 10 (and then the downgrade) from windows 7 but it will not see the driver it sees the device but calls it a USB high speed device or something like that and compatibility mode didn't seem to help.

So unless there is a clever work around and I'd love that to happen I'm stuck on Windows 7 for the duration.

Suggestions welcome.

A:Epson Stylus pro 7600 - Driver doesn't work

No cleverness here, and I don't have such a printer, but...

Have you tried the drivers for Vista?

These are for the dye-based version. I didn't look to see whether the Ultrachrome based one uses different drivers.

(There are also 32 bit Windows.) If they don't want to install, you could try right clicking on the installer and running the Troubleshoot Compatibility tool.

Good luck.

Hi there!
I just got my new Asus Vivobook s400ca running Win8.1, a few weeks ago.
It really runs great, although I managed to find one problem. Since this is a laptop without a detachable screen,
I didn't really find any good reason for having the touch keyboard toolbar () in my task bar, since I was pretty sure I'd never need it. So I disabled the keyboard, which worked out fine but the toolbar was still there.

I then went on to try to remove it by using one of EightForum's .reg files for that purpose.

This did, as described, remove the toolbar, but apparantly it stopped the mouse pad driver as well, even though the mouse pad itself basically works. (no gestures or scrolling though.)

As you can see here, There's no driver running.

And in the ASUS hub, it's also impossible to turn it on. It just keeps saying it's off.

So I decided to use another .reg file that I found with the initial one, that should basically just rollback the effect that the other one had, but to no avail.

It just made the toolbar come back.
So I don't really know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Also, if there is anyone who knows what to do about that toolbar, please do tell! [:

Thanks in advance! [:

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

I'm trying to add a Canon imageCLASS MF7470 printer to my laptop. When I plug it into the USB, Windows 7 detects it, but as unspecified. It says no driver is installed. When I do a Windows update it comes up with other imageCLASS models but not the one I have. I've tried going thru these threads to locate my options but nothing works. When I go to add printer, properties is as far as I can go cause the only tabs I get there are general and hardware. This is a work printer for a jobsite, so of course the disk has been lost at some point, but I need this running ASAP.

Ok, so I've re-installed Windows XP (SP2) and after it booted up, I noticed that my onboard ethernet adapter wasn't recognised. So I went and downloaded the appropriate drivers (SiS900.zip) from the mobo's official site (it's a PCChips M848A mobo) but when I try to install the drivers, it still says that the hardware isn't functional (Code 1).

I've tried many different versions of SiS900 drivers but it simply won't work.

When I tried the setup.exe file that came with the official driver, the install would say "Update Driver for PnP Device Fail. Setup will exit".

That's when I simply forwarded the windows hardware installer to an XP folder i found in the zip file. But still, it doesn't work.

I really need help on this matter. Thanks in advance...

EDIT: Maybe it's worth mentioning that I re-installed WinXP over an existing windows partition without formatting it. I simply deleted the former windows installation files.

Got a new tablet pc. Put in a new hard drive and installed vista ultimate x64. Works great. I was suprised how much smoother it runs.

The 11a/b/g/n wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter isn't recognized by vista. My friend said it might be a problem because it doesn't work with 64 bit software. Went through the long process of installing vista 32 bit version. Same thing. It was recognized by vista.

So now here I am with 64 bit vista installed again. I downloaded a couple drivers that it could be from lenovo website. It still didn't work.

Before I started this whole project I went to the microsoft upgrade site to check compatability. While running XP, the site said that I would have to download the wireless lan driver and install it after i installed vista. It also said the fingerprint reader would need to be manually installed but I don't care about that.

Any suggestions?

I downloaded Win7 x86 drivers for our Ricoh Aficio MP 171 from Ricoh, to load them onto a machine freshly updated from XP to Win 7. Every time i try to install them, Windows tells me the default driver it chose is the best one and won't install it. The driver it is using does squat, the printer was working fine when it was connected to XP, now the most we have gotten out of it is a few pages of jibberish when we tried to print a photo.

I have tried manually installing the driver from the device manager, i tell it to use a folder on the desktop where i copied the driver, but when i press next it immediately says the driver being used is up to date. I tried telling it to read from a dvd i burned the driver folder on to, it doesn't like that either.

I am toying with the idea of deleting the default driver from system32 (but copying it first to a data key), disconnecting from the 'net, and then installing the one from Ricoh.

I had trouble last week with my computer...the screen kept blinking and going black. It finally stayed black. I thought I had a virus and had a friend try to fix it for me. Found out that the inside of my PC was caked with dust and the fans werent working properly (woops! ) also side note: I came here weeks ago asking why my computer sounded like an airplane about ready to take off....no one thought of the dust issue..I had a 2 year buildup..so keep that in mind if anyone else has a similar problem in the future.

ok, so I got it all cleaned out and turned it on and everything came back nicely....for about an hour, then it started blinking again and went black and stayed black. I need to reinstall Win7. I downloaded appropriate version and then using microsoft tool got in onto a DVD.
Changed boot sequence and got disc to boot and then load windows files. At the next point I get the message device driver missing and asks me to install it. How do I do this? Thank you

A:device driver for reinstallation.

Is this message coming up before it has finish loading? or did this message come up after you loaded the OS completely? Could it be that the file you down loaded was corrupt during the download? Maybe download it again, if not either of those things -
Look up on the web site to the maker of your computer or parts and look for the drivers there of which you will get a whole list and download and install what you think it may be, if you right click My Computer or it may just say Computer and click on manage - Computer Management will come up and Device Manager will be in there click on that and there will be a question mark or some yellow sign next to what ever is missing, if it says unknown device its a guessing game but it may give you a clue as to what driver in there.

So, I've been trying to get all of the machines in our organization up-to-speed on the latest standards.  I figured that, as long as anyone is getting any NEW machine imaged and set up for them, that machine might as well be set up in UEFI mode, with GPT partitioning, as those are the latest standards for PCs.
We have a lot of Dell machines, and I have had no problem getting tons of them booting to my Windows 7 Professional installation USB drives, in UEFI mode, and installing a build of Windows in UEFI mode, using GPT partitioning for the drive.  E6320s, E6430s, E6440s, all work fine.
The Latitude E7250 doesn't even detect the USB drive that I plug into it, that has worked flawlessly for so many other machines.  I have the latest BIOS (A13).  Secure Boot is disabled.  I have tried plugging in the USB drive in a USB 2.0 port on the E-Port Plus docking station.  I have disabled USB 3.0.
The machine does not detect USB devices in UEFI mode.
This is a laptop that costs north of $1,000, Dell.  For real?

A:Latitude E7250 - doesn't detect my Windows 7 Professional USB reinstallation drive in UEFI mode

This is not Dell's doing - it's Microsoft and Intel at work.  They removed the ability to boot Skylake-based systems from USB to install WIndows 7:
wccftech.com/.../
While you can find ways around it (see below), whatever reasons you have for running Windows 7 should be very seriously rethought now -- the Skylake platform is the very last Intel platform that will run 7 -- the soon to be released 7th generation (Kaby Lake) CPUs will not run Windows 7 at all.

Hi Everyone,

I bought a lenovo Y570 Laptop almost a year ago and it came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit preinstalled. I also had a factory recovery partition but I mistakenly deleted it as I didn't know of it. The problem is now my computer is getting a bit slow. I want to re-install my windows without losing my genuine windows.

I have an OEM sticker on the Laptop but I am not sure whether the key will work. If I download Home Premium 64 Bit and reinstall the Windows will the key work? I didn't want to try before making myself sure regarding the process because I don't want to lose my genuine windows. I haven't modified the laptop hardware.

And to enhance my OEM Knowledge can someone also tell whether this key can be used in other computers? I saw in the internet that it can't be. If it is like that, can someone enlighten me with the technical details of OEM and how it is known whether the installation is on the factory laptop or some other machine? And how many times can I use the OEM key?

It would also be great if someone can tell me how can I remake my recovery partition, hide it and restore the laptop's partition strucutre(which was like this, One Big C Drive and other rec. partitions hidden) as it was when I got it out of the box. There is a Onekey Recovery button near the power button, it is not working also. So it will also be great if someone can give me the solution for it too.

Thanks in Advance.

Hey all,

My computer is an HP Pavilion dv5. My built-in webcam is not recognized by the computer anymore; it shows up in Device Manager as "Unknown Device" under the USB section (at least that's my guess; this unknown device appeared when the cam stopped working). I have reinstalled the HP drivers and contacted HP as well; they couldn't get me past reinstalling the drivers. Are there any things I can try? Might an upgrade to Windows 7 fix the problem?

I just reinstalled vista home premium using the Dell Reinstallation DVD as I was having probelms with my computer. (I have a Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop, It came with the reinstallation disc plus a disc with drivers but I am unsure on which drivers I am suppose to install)

Everything seems to be working now besides a couple of things.

1.) It wont let me install the moniter driver so I can set it too its 'recomended' screen size (its currently not offering me this in the settings menu) **this is very important as I need all the screen space I can get, Multimedia artist. I downloaded the correct moniter driver but in the zip. from Dell it had files, none of these .exe so I am unsure on how to Install!!
2. My 'Windows experience rating' has dropped to 1.0 after the reinstallation, before it was 5.9. It says my gaming graphics and my Graphics are on 1.0.
3. I havent ever done a reinstallation before and this driver business is driving me crazy, I dont really know what drivers I should be installing.....

I'm not GREAT with computers but I can understand the basics. Please I kinda need to get my computer up and running ASAP as I have work due///

Attached are prntscreens of my currently installed drivers and the contents of my moniter driver folder.

Thanks!

About a week ago I turned on my computer to find that the screen went blank after a certain point in the startup process (just before the desktop itself started loading). I called Dell technical support, the support agent determined the video drivers were at fault, and uninstalled and reinstalled them in Safe Mode, and the problem seemed to be resolved.

Shortly after getting off the phone with Dell I started up a game (Guild Wars 2), which told me my drivers were out of date. The video drivers the support agent had pulled from the Dell website were about three years old, so I went to the GeForce website and installed the 306.23 drivers. (For reference, I have two GeForce 9800 GT cards.) I began the installation, and halfway through the screen went blank, just like with the startup error. I let it sit for a while to see if the installation would complete, then rebooted manually. The computer restarted just fine.

Since then I have not had the blank screen problem, but my sound has been stuttering. How much it stutters fluctuates between "barely noticeable" and "occurs every two seconds", it seems to manifest most commonly in videos (both on my hard drive and online) but occurs with game audio and Windows sound effects as well. I have not seen any video lag accompanying the stuttering. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my video drivers again, this time without running into any issues, but that did not resolve it. I called Dell again, but they told me somet... Read more

A:Sound Stuttering After Video Driver Reinstallation

Can you post the model of your Dell? When you installed your two GeForce 9800 GT cards do you upgrade your power supply unit? If not I believe the psu that came with the dell is very much under powered for your graphics cards. I recommend at least a 80+ rated 750-900 watts psu. And under powered psu if you did not upgrade to a more efficient one is why you are having problems that you are experiencing. The minimum for each card (wattage) is 400 watts you have two. Having one I recommend at least 550watt since you have two cards I would highly recommend 750-900 watt psu. 400 watts minimum means it will do put it's pushing it if you just have 1 card.

I bought the w100 and I love the thing to death.
Had not had any real problems with it until saturday, to make a long story short, I reinstalled win7 on it, using the key found under the battery.

Win7 installed ok, but I had some problems with the libretto software*. First the bios was "not supported", as was the PC health monitor.
I finished installing anyway, and it mostly seems to work. A bit slower than it was before, I'm guessing because of the bios.

This is the same hardware, nothing was changed, even the same win7 (home premium), so I'm wondering what I did wrong here.

I tried reinstalling three times, and no luck.

Oh, and I just noticed that the "auto-rotation" isn't working either.

Has anyone had similar problems, and do you have a solution?

*All libretto drivers were downloaded from here:

Greetings,
I can't find the DVD drive for my Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q705 Gaming Laptop. In the General tab of the (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50F) property window, the following status was shown:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I removed and reinstalled the driver for the DVD drive, but the same problem reappears. I gone through the procedure to remove the upper and lower filters in the registry (Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs). I have done everything in that link with no change in the problem. The DVD drive is a Hitachi HTS723232L9A360. I went to the Hitachi website, with no results.

I am cash strapped, so I can't afford to use application like "driver doctor" (that scan your pc for problems, then claim to repair the problem for a fee). I consider that a form of deception to download their application. Would like to know where I can find the link for the DVD drive listed above in this post.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I am hoping you can please help me.I shut down my comp. for 3 days for the 4th of July holiday.Upon returning I booted up the comp. and now my resolution is stuck at the lowest resolution. It cannot be adjusted. I tried clicking troubleshoot and I get this message:"An ActiveX control is not safe. Your current security settings prohibit running unsafe controls on this page. As a result, this page may not display as intended."
When looked at in Device Manager there is a yellow/black exclamation mark next to the intel VGA 82865G graphics controller.I have tried restarting, system restore, and ran virus scans, spybot, etc. to no avail.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for graphics controller from both Dell and also from Intel. It will not allow me to reinstall the driver. Earlier I uninstalled, shut down and tried to let the computer find it's own way and reinstall. I got this message"There was a problem installing this hardware: Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."
I don't know what else to do. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much!

A:Graphics card not working and won't accept driver reinstallation

Try to trouble shoot step by step.
I am assuming you are running windows (probably XP).
boot into safe mode (F8)
through device manager make sure all drivers are uninstalled for video card.
reboot back into safe mode. attempt to install the newest drive (might not work, thats okay)
restart into regular mode, cancel any attempt to install drivers, then navigate to the dell driver and install. reboot and allow the pc to auto install.

the second step is to drive to find another video card and test to see if it work.

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

Hi,
I am using Compaq Pressario P4 PC with ?Windows XP Home edition? Operating System installed on it. The issue that I am facing is as follows:
- One day, audio was not working with PC. My hard disk drive was close to full, so, I thought of uninstalling couple of unnecessary programs. While doing so, I stopped uninstallation in middle by pressing back button, then, uninstallation process hanged. After that I also tried rollback of soundMAX digital audio driver and again I selected back button and this also hanged. Please note that I had inserted the restore CD in upper CD drive to search the audio driver file. Then, I started the computer through hard reset. After that first it went in restore mode, exited that, Windows Logo came and after that there was just a blinking cursor at top left corner and nothing would happen after that.
- Then I called one PC technician for data recovery from my hard drive. He took my hardrive out of the PC and connected it via USB adaptor to my laptop. The hard drive could be detected and we started data copying from hard drive to laptop. However after every 3-4 minutes, hard drive used to hang and then we had to take out the hard drive cable, again reconnect. This we repeated multiple times to recover the important data from my hard drive.
- After that, hard drive was re-inserted in the PC. Since, after restart PC was not booting up (Windows Logo came and after that there was just a blinking cursor at top left corner ... Read more

A:PC doesn't boot in normal mode even after OS reinstallation, though, boots in safe mode

Yes, the hard drive may have become faulty and unreliable and therfore will soon fail completely. For confirmation, test it with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS.
The links are here: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

In Safe Mode, no third-party drivers are loaded. In Normal Mode, all those extra drivers being accessed on an already flakey drive is causing it to crash.

Have a friend with a relatively new Lenovo laptop using Windows XP SP3. Overnight he can't access the Internet via browsers, email or AIM. His desktop connected to the same router is working fine.

He can access the router by IP address using either IE7 or FireFox 3.5. Anything that needs a DNS server doesn't work. This does say though that he has a working connection to the router.

He's run MalWareBytes and his own McAffee software looking for bad stuff but has found nothing.

Running "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt gives exactly the same results for the laptop as his working desktop. The DNS servers are there. He can ping the DNS servers using their IP addresses. He is being assigned a proper local network address so DHCP is working on the router.

Any thoughts on where to look next to discover why the Internet applications don't seem to be able to find the DNS servers?

A:Can't Access Websites, Email doesn't work and no AIM doesn

FWIW, my friend took his laptop to a PC shop. Their diagnosis was malware. I don't know the identity of the malware. Anyway, the shop saved his data then formatted and reloaded XP SP3.

Hi... xp stopped responding and I decided to power off.

Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.

Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.

The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.

The system that had the problem was running Win XP Home SP1. Unfortunately, I can't find the manufacturer's recovery CD.

HD is still in the other PC. How should I attack the problem?

A:XP doesn't reboot, safemode doesn't work

Update... Three passes of AVG and all threats were put in vault. Tried to re-install the HD to the initial system but no change... System says it didn't start correctly, that a new software of hardware could be responsible, the suggests to try las known good config, none of the options work, they all perform some tasks then windows reboots and ends up in the same screen.

I believe this LAC problem started around the same time I was trying to get shared music between my computers on iTunes. I was trying to allow for connection on port 3689, but everything I did was unsuccessful. Any suggestions for any of these problems I'm having?

I cannot get Windows Media Encoder 9 to work at all at home, but I have no problems with it at work, so I know I'm not trying to do something with it that it can't handle.

At home, every time I try to convert either an AVI or a VOB to WMV, either using the wizard or the custom settings, it lets me get through it all and then, when it starts trying to encode, it throws up the message:
"Windows Media Encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ..."

It never gives me any more information than this, just crashes and closes. I've tried repairing it through the control panel, as well as completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it hasn't helped.

At home I'm running Windows XP Media Center. At work, where I've never had it crash, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Is there something in Media Center that causes it to crash? Is there any patch I can download or thing I can do to get it to work on my home computer?

Thanks for your help.

A:Windows Media Encoder doesn't work at home, does at work

I'm currently having the same problem . I open the .vob file set the output folder , settings etc etc . just as it was about to start converting , WME just stops and crashes . I use windows xp home edition so if your company's xp professional can make it work im thinking it is something in the professional edition which allows it to work not something in our edition that doesnt allow it to work. Are there any alternatives for encoding a video? i dont have much cash right now so i was hoping i might find some freeware alternatives . thanks

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.

I'm running Windows Vista.

The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software

Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.

Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.

I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.

At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.

Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more

Help! See the title.

I'm going mad because I can't listen to music! I've tried three different mediaplayers (Windows Media Player, VLC & QuickTime) and all three just don't work! WMP won't even play the files, VLC will (in .avi-case even with picture!) but there won't be sound :/. Same for QuickTime,...

Now, the weird thing is that I can play games without a problem and the sound's still there! Hell, even sounds made by Windows -- I hear 'em! YouTube works too!

I'm concerned there might be something wrong in the registry,... (I use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner/Defrag regularly, I guess something was bound to go wrong,...)

Please, help? :(

(Windows 7, btw.)

A:Sound DOESN'T work while playing .mp3/.avi - DOES work with games/YT

Apparently I made a mistake,... Sound in games doesn't work* System sounds and YouTube do, though.

Dear All
I'm using Dell Vostro 3350 now. After I upgrade Win 10 Pro, the Laptop Speaker doesn't work and can't give output any sound. But if I put my earphone, all of the sound include song work.
I use PC Doctor and scan the computer hardware but there is nothing found error on hardware and software. I also use windows update to scan all of the drivers, but it can't found any update drivers of this laptop. So what can I do next to fix the problem?
Thank you for member's attention

A:Laptop Speaker Doesn't Work But Using Earphone Work

Hello. Dell does not recommend installing Win10 on the Vostro 3350 model. Dell says, "If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected." To get the best performance from your laptop, revert it back to the previous operating system. You can google to find instructions for undoing Win10.
If you want to continue with Win10, then try to install the IDT Win8 audio driver using compatibility mode.
1. Click the link to go to the driver's page. Download and save the driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive. 2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win8.

Alright,

So whenever a program uses InstallShield to install or uninstall a program, it boots up, and the bar fills up preparing to run the Wizard, and right when it fills, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while launching the setup. The specified module could not be found," and then it quits.

This occurs anytime I try to install or uninstall anything that uses InstallShield. I've tried everything at the InstallShield troubleshooting site, including deleting a file in the registry (the problem key was there but deleting it didn't solve the problem), making sure I had admin privilidges, and emptying out the Temp folder. I can't reinstall InstallShield because it (ironically) requires InstallShield to install.

The one problem that I can think of would be that I just got back from college. At college, I logged onto a network to use the computer. Could this have something to do with it? I've tried logging onto the computer itself as the Admin, but the problem still occurs. This whole thing really sucks because the comp is pretty much useless not being able to install or uninstall anything.

Thanks for any help.

A:InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

Depending on what version of InstallShield you have here is a site that shows some of it's program errors >
http://helpnet.installshield.com/robo/projects/installshield10-5compact/CP_IHelpBuildErrors.htm

Have you tried this site > http://consumer.installshield.com/

InstallShield uses the Windows Installer Service. It could be that Windows Installer Service has somehow become corrupted.
Check this site out > http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201

As a last resort you might consider reinstalling your Windows Operating System on top of itself to repair and replace the corrupted or missing files associated with InstallShield and Windows Installer Service.

Just for your information, InstallShield is the oldest installer program company. However there is another that is completely free “Inno Setup” which you may have seen when installing some programs. Here’s their site > http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

here's my problem, as near as I can tell,

a few months ago the wireless connection on my hp laptop stopped "seeing" my wireless network. Eventually, during a scan with my panda security system a virus was found (for some reason it is no longer in the logs-but is was, I think, trojan or sasser in my outlook folders-and it was deleted). The wireless seemed to work again but then went back to being "invisible" to my wireless detector on the laptop. I went to HP downloads to see if I could just update the "driver" and ended up updating "system bios" which seemed to work also, for a while, then the system goes back to not seeing the wireless. I could sometimes do the right-click "repair" option to get it to connect but that stops working after a while. I think that there is still some residual virus lurking in the system to cause this problem so that is why I am posting here. Thanks for any help you can give

I am not exactly sure if this is where I attach the dds.txt text but will put it here just in case:

Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox.  Tried to download to replace existing Firefox.  CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up.  Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
-  Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry.  If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.

SO there are a few issues that I need help with.

A:windows 10 problems - start menu doesn't appear, windows key doesn't work, etc

Hello,
Well the first thing you should try is to Run System Restore to before all of these problems started or to when you first installed Windows 10.
Then try to download Firefox from there website
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Third thing is I would recommend to get rid of Avast it is low end and could be allowing virus I recommend ether McAfee or Norton Security.

Those are some things to think about
but it is all up to you when making your final decision

Ok I have a problem, and its really bugging me. One day a friend came over and we tried to install a Geforce 2 GTS into my computer (PII 450 Mhz,96 MB Ram, etc. etc.) Anyway, we installed the card into the AGP slot, but for some reason the monitor wouldnt work when we turned on the computer (kept saying Video Cable Connected?)(I figured out why it was doing that though) Anyway since it wasn't working, we took the card back out, put the computer back together, all good. My friend leaves, and I turn on the computer. At first everything seems ok, but then I notice my sound doesnt work, nor does my graphics card work (my original one) I fixed the graphic problem by just installing the new drivers, but the sound I cant. I thought maybe it had to do with drivers since we deleted my old graphics drivers when we installed the new graphics card, so I downloaded the newest sound card drivers, and its still not working. I went back and opened up my computer. Theres this one wire that we could not remember wether it was connected or not. Ive tried having my computer on with the wire connected and not connected, and it doesnt seem to make any difference. So I would really like to figure out whats the matter with my comp, and hope to god its fixable, cause I really dont want to get a new comp.

Thanks before hand.

it keeps saying no connections are available.
yet if i boot into my xp partition, it connects to wifi with no problem.

Its not working right.
maybesome other driver is clashing with it?
i noticed it got mistaked for bluetooth or something, and was turjing on bluetooth when it was supposed to turn on wifi.

please help someone..

Dam* niggles will get you every time o.0

You will want to use the 'official' driver. There are all kinds of mini-210 hp PCs: HP Support & Drivers | United States - find yours, make sure if your computer is 64 bit, you get the 64bit driver; and if it is 32bit, get the 32bit (or x86) driver.

After you download it, go into control panel and remove any wireless adapter driver software you might have, and then install the software you just downloaded. All you should have to do is find your network and connect to it, entering in a single password.

If this doesn't work, let me know

This pops up every time I start or restart my laptop:
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power of failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren?t sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Start Windows Normally "
I've tried all of the options listed above, but each one will bring me back to the same screen with the above text. I've also tried to reboot and press F8 to go to safe mode. No luck. I want to do a factory restore on my Vaio laptop, but f10 doesn't work either.

A:F10 doesn't work

You have to hit F10 at the Sony Logo screen if you wait too long it will start to boot from the HDD.
If this still fails, Boot off of the XP CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.

I have now spent over an hr trying to make google my default search engine - not one of the suggestions when I do a search will work because what they say in the windows that come up are not there. There is no "search" when I use tools and not three dots when I go to google search window.

I understand MS will do everything it can to not let people use anything except MS programs but this is ridiculous.

Now do I make google my default search engine?

I recently discovered that my cd-rom drive doesn't work; it wont read any kind of cd or dvd. In My Computer the cd-rom drive (E: ) icon is missing, and in Device Manager there isnt any cd or dvd drive related items. In the BIOS-setup there doesn't seem to be anything about the cd-rom drive either, so it seems to be gone everywhere.
Searching around Google I found a lot of different solutions, but none of them worked; I tried deleting the upper/lower filters, I tried system restore and I tried searching for cd-rom drivers at my computer support site but there wasn't any available.
I don't use my cd-rom drive often, so its hard to say when it happened and what caused this problem, but it happened a little while after i updated my BIOS to version f.32, maybe that could have affected it somhow?
I'm not great with computers, so please take me through any possible solutions very thorougly.

Ok, you people are probably sick of hearing about my problems, so many thanks to anyone who responds to this.

Last night I went to a LAN party but forgot my Wifi adapter, so I disabled the connection and used a regular LAN cable. I also switched workgroups and such.

So when I got home today, I went to set it back up and it worked for the most part, except it seemed to be going too slow and was connected as "WLAN Connection 2" instead of just "WLAN". (I'll just call this settings #1)

So I did a system restore to go back to my settings before the party (settings #2) and it said that the adapter was new hardware, so I installed it and it was still had settings #1, so I disconnected from the WLAN and tried to reconnect but it wouldn't let me.

2 or 3 system restores later, and I can't even get the network to show up any more, and if I do I can't connect to it. I'm thinking I may have installed the adapter drivers too many times or something. It is an XTERASYS 802.11g adapter and I am running WinXP Pro on the computer. Thanks again.

Here is the support site for the HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-In-One C309a which you should add and save to your browser favorites/bookmarks list.

Was the update that you installed from the Windows Updates site an update that's associated with that printer? Never ever download and install driver updates from that site because they're either incomplete or outdated or unnecessary.

I recently had Windows XP reinstalled on my Lenovo 3000 N100 and just noticed that my fan isn't working. I downloaded SpeedFan and it didn't list any fans available. Could there be a driver missing from the XP reinstall? Or is there some way to test if the fan is dead??

Thanks!

That's not a driver missing and you need to keep it off and take it to a repair shop so you don't lose the whole thing.

I AM PROBLEMS WITH MY CD ROM DRIVE. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS THAT THE CD DRIVE WILL NOT COME ON, IT IS LIKE IT IS GETTING NO POWER GOING TO THE DRIVE AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE DRIVE ITSELF AND I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW CD DRIVE AND NOW IT WON'T WORK EITHER, COULD THAT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER SUPPLY CABLE, WHAT DO YALL THINK???

A:Cd Rom Doesn't Work

Check in your bios and make sure that secondary master (if that is where the cd is) recognises a cd device... if not make sure it is set to auto or if that doesn't work set it to cd yourself.

I just started streaming today and my mic was muted, I thought I had accidentally clicked the mute button but I didn't. When I go to control panel-sound-recordings and I listen to the mic, it works fine so it has to be an OBS problem. I streamed yesterday and I didn't have this problem, I also didn't adjust any settings after that. I already made sure it wasn't set on the wrong mic in obs settings. How can I fix this?

Nevermind I fixed it, turns out I had it set on push to talk (???) I never changed the settings, I changed it in ts though but I don't know why that would affect OBS.

I couldn't figure out how to delete this question so don't waste your time answering it haha

I have just bought a new Lenovo G50-80 laptop. When I was testing the laptop, I recorded a video with the built in camera and I realized that the microphone was not recording. I, then, tried to use the windows sound recorder and it did not worked too. I read on web that some people had the same problem and solved it reinstalling or updating the driver or installing an old one. I have tried both, but it did not work. Can anybody help me out?

Hi. I got a new PC recently and I'm trying to connect it to my old PC to get files and play LAN-games with my brother. Both PC's have Windows XP. I am trying to connect them with a cross-over ethernet cable. No routers or anything between. I have ran the Windows Home-Network Wizard and updated all the drivers of the network cards of both computers. It currently shows a status of "Connected" in the 'Network connections'. but I'm still unable to get these 2 to connect eachother. I have manually entered the IP's and subnet masks. I also tried the automatic-IP's but it didn't work either. I have turned the Windows own Firewall off. Any ideas/questions?

Sometimes I get a program that stops responding (not always the same program) and the End Task feature in the Windows Task Manager doesn't shut the program down. I can repeat this several times, but still can't close the program.
Is there anything I can do short of hitting the power button on the PC tower (which is what I end up doing).
Thanks.

A:When Ctr+Alt+Del doesn't work?

you must upgrade your pc. put some more 256 memory and 40gb hard disk. and try to clean your OS and delete or uninstall some other program not in use.

Hi, guys! Help me please.
I have Toshiba Satellite L850-C9K. It was 6 Gb Ram (2 Gb Samsung DDR3 1333 MHz 64 bit + 4 Gb Samsung DDR3 1600 MHz 64 bit). So they both worked on 1333 MHz. Yesterday I've bought 8 Gb Kingston DDR3 1600 MHz 64 bit to remove 2 Gb Samsung. But, I don't know why, 8 Gb Kingston and 4 Gb Samsung don't work together. It is 12 RAM, but only 8 Gb available... Help me please, how to make them work together?

A:RAM doesn't work

Download and install CPU-z, then post screen of of memory tab on cpu-z, then post screen shot of system information of windows from control panel.

When it comes to RAM, especially for laptops, always use the same brand and size (GB).....mix-matching (brands) with laptops tends to cause issues.

Running IE6 on a Win98 PC via cable connection. It launches but doesn't make contact with any website -- each attempt brings a "The page cannot be displayed" message. I'm running ZoneAlarm but IE6 has permission to access the web. Opera and Firefox work fine.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

A:IE6 Doesn't Work

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Failing that..........

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I just bought a Panasonic Toughbook with Windows 2000. Everything seems to work fine, except for the USB port. When I plug in the Mouse, it doesn't do anything(not even a message saying there is an error). It still didn't work after I did a search for new hardware. I tried my Ipod and my digital camera and neither one of them work. There wasn't any message pop up. It as if they were not plug in.

A:USB doesn't seem to work

I am assuming you bought this used. Was the operating system ever reinstalled? If so, you might not have any drivers for the usb ports installed.

I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 running XP SP3 that I bought in 2003 with the combo CD/DVD drive (Pioneer DVDRW DVR-K16) & I'd been basically using the laptop for streaming internet radio for the last few year. I just recently used the Recover partition to wipe it clean. I just tried the disc drive for the first time in years just the other day & it won't recognize any disc. I'd attempted to load printer drivers last night & had to use a USB drive to do so.

Any ideas on things I can do, short of taking it to Best Buy's Geek Squad? (I had them help me with something similar a few years ago with a different laptop.)

It isn't pertinent that I get the drive working, but it would be nice.

Thanks.

You can try MS Fixit, Optical Drives - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116 .
