None of my drivers are updating! Not even my new monitor!

Q: None of my drivers are updating! Not even my new monitor!

I've no idea what's going on here, but NONE of my drivers are updating and anything new I plug into a USB port, windows 7 won't have anything to do it.

I'm certain something is missing. I don't know if it's a virus or some kind, but I can tell you now that my install shield (64 bit) is missing.

What on earth is going on? It won't even recognise a new mouse or keyboard!

There really HAS to be a way of fixing it. I posted a few pictures about it but it seems strange that it won't even install a monitor properly???? The monitor I'm using now is still usable, but it doesn't have it's own driver and as a result some software won't work on it as it acts as a secondary monitor (although it works fine and is actually pretty darn good).

Is there a way around this? I've tried an update and windows still won't detect it!

Please help, reinstalling windows is a real pain as I have a custom made PC that my friend built (who has now moved away really far) so I have no idea how to reinstall the graphics card, do a proper partition, etc. And I know NOTHING about this. If I did it I may screw things up and lose all the saved stuff on my partition.

If someone could help out that would be much appreciated.

Regards-

BOC.

I am current using a Nvidia 9800 GTX/GTX+ with driver version 6.14.11.7824. It works fine at this setting. Yet whenever I try to update the driver, whether its to a more recent version or a slightly older one, my monitor will go blank after the windows splash screen. I recently had some other issues with my PC, but those were related to RAM and at this point I have updated the RAM and the blue screens from that have gone away. I was hoping that doing that would fix this issue, but obviously it has not. What might be causing this problem and how do I go about fixing it?

I suppose I should also mention that this is only when booting windows normally, I can still access safe mode perfectly fine.

A:Monitor goes blank after updating drivers

Drivers make so little difference, that I would first see how it runs with the driver that works. You probably do not need to make a change. You simply will not see a reason to change unless you are changing a specific component.

I recently updated my drivers for my nvidia graphics card. After rebboting the machine i found that i could no longer see a display on my monitor.

Is there any way in which i could revert back to the old drivers without being able to see anything on the screen?

A:No Monitor Display After Updating Nvidia drivers

Hey,

You should be able to boot and POST atleast, is this the case? If this is the case, go into safe mode and go to device manager using the below method - once here, search for the drivers for your card and right click, properties, uninstall (or rollback, which will change them to your last most recent drivers for your card).

Start > Run > devmgmt.msc

Ok, so I updated my Intel GMA 965 Chipset driver,
and there is a weird problem

The colors on the monitor of the LAPTOP ( I have an Inspiron 1525 ) seem to be completely messed up, but when I connect a second monitor to the laptop, the problems are NOT on that monitor. On The connected monitor everything seems to work completely fine.

I have windows vista 32 bit, if it matters.

Thanks
*EDIT* it displays both monitors as "1" When I click " identify Monitor "

A:Weird problem with Monitor after updating drivers.

Please tell us more about the monitors you are testing with.

Are you referring to two external monitors, and one of those external monitors isn't working as it should?

Or, are you talking about the laptop's own display that is corrupt, but is fine on an external monitor?

I have a asus ux305ca. Has a gma 515. Latop comes with windows 10 x64. If i update the gma drivers, either manually or via windows update (insider builds which includes an updated driver). The machine will work fine, but after sleep and you open the lid, the monitor won't wake. You can however install the older driver asus has on their website which will restore functionality.
Is this a bios problem or what exactly is not compatible with the newer intel drivers?

Hello everyone,
Recently, I updated my HP laptop from windows 8 to windows 8.1. I got critical message from HP Support Assistant asking to update the drivers. I went to HP website, and see all the drivers specified for my laptop. I didnt get which one I have to install. I dont want to install unnecessary things that could harm the functionality of my laptop. Anyway, I opened the device manager in my laptop and checked the update for every driver. But, this message still appears to me. Any tips that can help me? Do you know the specified drivers I have to install? Or, Do you know a specific source I can use to know the needed drivers?
Thanks

Recently I have decided to update the USB 3.0 drivers on my MSI Z97 PC MATE motherboard as it turned out that they weren't installed, and because I bought a USB 3.0 memory stick. When I just got this motherboard I didn't install them as after doing so I got a BSOD and had to do a system restore. Now that I've seen that a newer version is available, I decided to update along side my BIOS and other drivers. The updates went find with no problems, and the USB 3.0 ports are working great.

However, every time I start up my PC there's like a 10 second delay before I can use anything connected to the USB ports, which is rather annoying as some of my programs rely on some of the USB devices to be connected at startup, so I have to configure them one by one manually after startup. What has also happened is that the desktop icon positions aren't saving, and nor is the position/size of windows.

I'm thinking that it may have also been something to do with the registry as I cleaned it with CCleaner (not a good idea, it broke my Chrome updates a while ago). Can anyone please help? I'm really out of options and this is really annoying me. So far I tried to make it so that all of the USB related services are run automatically on startup, I tried restoring the old registry... Perhaps there's a way to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

I have an old Toshiba Satellite Laptop M series and have decided to try and up date the drivers on it. I ran one of the free scans and it has identified 5 drivers which need updating which are namely:
Canon i850
NVIDIA GeForce FXGe5200
Intel(R) Pro Wireless 2100 LAN 38 Mini PCI Adaptor
Intel (R) Pro /100VE Network Connection
Intel(R) 8280 IDBB PCI Bridge 2448.
I have found free updates for the first two and installed them.
My question is: Can anybody recommend a site where I can get Intel Driver updates and is it worth doing?

A:Updating Drivers

Try intel.com and go to the downloads area. It may take awhile to find what you need but it should be there. Some of them are now in an older or achieve folder. When you get to the intel site select then select downloads.

How am I supposed to know which drivers REALLY need updating?

A:How do I know which Drivers need updating?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If your computer has been working properly, I would suggest leaving it as is since the drivers have been doing what they were intended to. If you are suddenly experiencing problems with old drivers you should reinstall them. Usually, the only time that you need to update drivers is if they fail to perform with new hardware.

A:updating drivers

I recommend going to the manufacturers website for the hardware
you want to update drivers on.
That way you always get the latest.
If the computer manufacturer doesn't have updates (factory computer like a dell),
Then you can check sites like graphics manufacturers for the latest.
You shouldn't lose your network unless you get the wrong driver.
If your computer is custom built, always go to the manufacturers site
of the hardware for driver updates.
I never use those all in one programs like drivermax.

I want to update my drivers. I already have all the latest drivers from the HP support page for my computer, but I think a few of them may be out of date. Problem is that I cannot find the exact model number of my installed hardware. For example, my Intel display chip just lists as "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family", which isn't helpful at all.

Is there some program i can download that will tell me the exact hardware models I have, etc?

A:Updating drivers

Here you have the direct link for the download center:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

That's your Chipset.

You could also check the manufacturer's website, let's say you have a Realtek HD Audio Card. instead of downloading it from the HP website, go to the Realtek website. of course this is just an example

Check the manufacturers of your PC's devices. and then do some research although most likely you have all your drivers updated (if you have installed the latest from your OEM's website)

EDIT:

Audio: IDT High Definition (need to download from HP's Website)
Video: Intel, from the link above. AMD from here AMD Graphics Drivers & Software
Touchpad: Drivers | Synaptics
Network: Atheros: (unofficial) ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (need to search your model), realtek LAN: Realtek, Intel pro: intel download center (above)
Storage: Realtek Card Reader: the same link i posted above (Realtek)

That'd be it. the other devices, download them from HP.

So i used "driver detective" and it tells me that 4 drivers need to be updated...one of them was my nvidia card...i updated that myself...

the other 3 im having a really hard time trying to figure out...

one says high definition audio device...(i guess it doesnt give me alot of detail bcuz its the trial version of driver detective) i dont have a sound card...i have 6 channel onboard audio...i have a asus m3a motherboard...if that helps determine my problem any

the other two that need updated are:
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

any help would be much appreciated...ive searched around for the drivers...but i dont really know what im looking for or where to look to be quite honest...

A:need help updating drivers

Hi kapitald and welcome to the forums

I don't actually recommend the use of a program such as "driver detective". Instead, I periodically check the manufacturer's website for any updates. The only drivers that I update are the graphics and audio. Links to the relevant web sites for these are given below. Please can you fill in more details on your System Specs as this will help us with any further queries that you might have in the future.

From your motherboard (Asus M3A), I have determined that you have the Realtek ALC883 audio solution, which is high-definition audio.

Realtek

Since you haven't specified the actual model of your graphics card, this is the main download page from NVidia. You will need to fill in the correct details yourself.

I was just reading through some posts on here and have found updates for realtek hd audio driver and many others. Why is it device manager doesnt find these updates and is it just best to manually visit the sites and check for updates yourself.Or is there another way to check. Also which driver updates are most important i presume my graphics card must be well outdated by now
Any help much appreciated thankyou

A:Updating drivers

If you don't have Windows 7 updater latest release installed (came out just after W7 was released) and allow it to search for third party updates you won't be advised of updates. Go to Asus Downloads and Updates section and check for updates by your particular model and OS and I'm guessing you will find updates. Your device manager would find an update if it were in a directory on your PC but I find it is usually not intuitive enough to find one on the web.

You may also wish to think about the mantra "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", updated drivers can be a good thing but not always. Loads of OEM's actually work with the industry folks and have dedicated drivers for their components and Asus is no exception to this so it would be in your best interest to check there first especially with a laptop.

Should one worry about updating Audio/Video drivers as their computer gets older?Ive had mine a few years with no updates at all.

A:Updating Drivers

If you are not experiencing display or sound problems, and do not play intensely graphic games, you can probably not worry about updating your drivers. If, on the other hand, you have never updated your drivers, it would be a good idea to do so, as well as to save them to disk in case of later computer problems.

Hi Everyone!

This is my first post to this forum! Anyway, I 'uninstalled' Windows Vista for my friend and then reinstalled Windows XP since my friend didn't like the Vista OS. I downloaded the XP OS fine, however, after not being able to get on the internet, I looked at the Device Manager in the XP OS on his laptop. I found these 'devices' had a yellow exclamation mark beside them:

cnf7047
coprocessor
ethernet controller (listed twice)
pci device
sm bus controller
unknown device
video controller

I ran the program PC Wizard on his laptop, and this is what showed under System Summary:

Manufacturer: Seanix Technology Inc.
Mainboard: Wistron 303C
Chipset: Nvidia GeForce 8200M
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM 42 @2100MgHz
Physical Memory: 2048MB
Video Card: Nvidia Corp.
Hard Disk: Toshiba 160GB
Network Card: Nvidia Corp.
Network Card: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5006

Now, my problem, is that I need to find the drivers for the above mentioned
devices, especially the ethernet and video devices, as without them, I haven't been able to get on the internet, while the screen keeps having a
'cascading' effect. I'm going to see my friend next week, and I need to have
the laptop 'fixed' so that my friend can get on the internet and also not have any problems with the video. Since my friend didn't get any 'recovery' disks when he bought the laptop, I need to be able to fix the device manager problems before I give him back the laptop! Thanks!

Hi, I don't know much about this kind of think at all. I was told that updating my drivers might help a game run faster. Here is what I read:

"Make sure you update all your drivers. This is important for those slackers who only want to play and don't bother to update your drivers. There are essentially 3 types of drivers to update. Motherboard / Chipset drivers, video card drivers, sound drivers. For those of you who changed your video card from Nvidia to Ati vice versa, you might want to use a driver cleaner to clear out the old files. These drivers, driver cleaners etc could be found at http://downloads.guru3d.com/ or if you're using ATI cards, some people found http://www.omegadrivers.net/ to be good for them. "

The problem is that I am completely confused. I don't know how to navigate those websites. I don't even know what kind of drivers I had. I remember trying to do this by myself years ago, and I nearly broke my computer. Please help.

You first need to know what hardware you are downloading drivers for and the manufacturer's web sites are the best source. Download Everest and you can get a start from there by identifying your hardware and chipsets.

I currently have 2 GeForce 7800GTX's running in SLI mode under Win XP. I am using driver version 81.95. I tried to update the drivers to the latest version 91.31. First I uninstalled the driver via Add/Remove programs. Then rebooted. Upon Windows starting, I got the "found new hardware" message. But instead of saying it had found the 7800's, it said it found VGA adapter?? Why weren't my 7800's found. Also, when I looked in device manager, there wasn't a listing for display adapter and my IDE adapters had yellow exclamation marks next to them. So I "system restored" back and am now waiting to see what to do. What is the proper way to update drivers for both video cards so that I can still run in SLI mode?

Hi
Is there a "safe" and good programme that makes life easier for updating drivers?

Some I have used in the past have tended to cause more problems than they have fixed. Trying to eliminate an ongoing problem I have at the moment. Not at any one particular moment but keep getting a message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". All that happens is that desktop "empties" and then recovers. Doesn't affect anything else. Ruled out Virus. Memory and Graphics cards are only 6 months old. Computer was professionally re-built at the time.

Not very technically minded. Been told it may be a 3rd party shell extension causing the problem but suspect there is no easy way to get to the bottom of that.

Wanted to update all drivers just to eliminate one more thing

Any suggestions would be gratefully received. thanks

A:Updating Drivers

Definitely update your drivers yourself. If there are auto-updaters from the hardware manufacturers themselves those tend to be alright (albeit they still consume RAM), but I don't think the scenario has improved at all for those "magic bullet" update-all-drivers softwares.

Have you tried System Restore to fix your problem?

These are the latest graphics drivers for your card. When Windows says it has the best drivers, that just means that nothing newer is currently on the computer, but there can still be newer ones online.

If that doesn't work, then tell use what games you're trying to play, it could be that they just don't support that card.

A:Help Updating Drivers

Here are the general guidelines. Any questions or problems, just ask.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
You can also locate information about your driver using this information

You can ignore MS drivers such as

I have gone thru a clean up of my computer on the malware forum, and it was suggested that I make sure to update drivers after the last cleaning. This is XP Pro SP3. I found a website which advertises they can scan your system and give you a list of drivers that are critical to update or recommended you update or if you should want a backup, here's a driver. The downloads are free but you pay an annual subscription.

Looked like a deal so I did the download and paid but the problem I saw was that it recommended drivers for things I did not have, drivers for 64bit systems, all kinds of things. I tried to ask why they would recommend drivers for things I did not have but never could get a straight answer. So I cancelled that subscription.

My question is there a website the experts on this forum know and use that is reliable, that can give you a list of needed updates or newer drivers specifically for your system?

A:Updating Drivers

The only place you should be going for stable, reliable drivers is the manufacturer of your computer (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc) if it's OEM or the specific manufacturer of your hardware if purchased separately. Avoid "Driver Download" software because as you found out, you'll only have problems.

I have a Compaq Presario 7477 64MB, around 2 years old. I`d like to download and install the latest drivers for the onboard Trident graphics card and Essaudio sound card. I`ve found the Compaq site with the updates on, but here`s what`s worrying me. Could the updated drivers screw things up, and how can I insure against this?

If the new drivers mess up, install the old ones again. They will more than likely be fine if they are on Compaq's site.

I recently got around to beginning the daunting task of updating the 50-100 drivers, and I have a few questions. The only ones I haven't updated are the ones inside "System devices." Since there are are at least 20-30 of them, I'm wondering whether there is a more efficient method than double clicking each one, selecting the Driver tab, and clicking "Update driver." Also, several of them say, "...this hardware is not connected to the computer," or, "...requires further installation," or both. Does the "...this hardware is not connected to the computer" message mean that I don't have one of those, and how do I resolve the "...requires further installation" messages? I followed Microsoft's instructions, but, as usual, they didn't work.

A:Updating Drivers

We need some further info before answering, Please post either the make and model of your computer if bought off the shelf, or if it was custom built we need the makes and model numbers of.
Motherboard.
Cpu.
Gpu.
If your computer was bought off the shelf then the maker IE Dell, Hp, Acer will have support pages were you will find the drivers, if it is custom built the Motherboard maker will have support pages with the drivers, if you have a Graphics card then you would get the drivers from the maker of the card. You do not need any third party software and windows update is not always the best place to get drivers.

If it ain't broke, don't fix itGenerally, if you're having problems or installing an application or program that needs them or an updated driver might have an improvement that you want. EMachines should have them on their support or you can download a program like SIW That will give you the name and information on the internals. Then you can go to each individual site and download themMark

Please can anyone tell me why Catalyst Control Center isn't appearing in Catalyst Install Manager? I have uninstalled all ATI stuff from my laptop and CCC simply won't appear, I have been having this Driver problems for months and my blood is really boiling right now so I apologize if I happen to be rude.

Also, when installing the Display Driver, my screen resolution will ALWAYS get ruined and becomes stretched and messed up. And I am having problems with Battlefield 3, where my terrain becomes black and just a bunch of random boxes, similar to this - Battlefield 3 graphics problem (black ground) (Solved) - YouTube but I'm trying to install Catalyst bullshit and leads to my first question.

Is the install manager supposed not to have CCC? This shit is really giving me a headache.

I want to update my video card drivers on my ATI Radeon 9800XT to the Catalyst 5.11s (not the 5.12s because there is a known issue with one game and those drivers). How can I go about doing so? I'm looking for a step by step tried-and-true method of doing this. Instructions on ATI's site have been different from instructions on other forums, so I'm kinda confused.

I am aware that the first thing I need to do is install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 from Windows Update. Then I should reboot my computer I assume?

Then I guess I download the 5.11s and safe the .exe to my desktop? I understand that I need to remove the old drivers, first from Add/Remove Programs. Do I remove all of the ATI entries? Can this be done in normal mode or must this be done in Safe Mode?

Once I remove the drivers from the Control Panel, do I restart my computer then or should I run something like DriverCleaner? Again, should this be done in normal mode or safe mode? ATI had instructions to remove entries from the registry and delete all ATI referenced folders on the hard drive. Do I have to do this or does Driver Cleaner take care of it for me? I have also been told I have to delete my video card entries under the Device Manager, but I'm not so sure about that. It doesn't seem necessary does it?

After I reboot my computer, I'm sure the "Windows has detected new hardware" box will come up. ATI tells me to let it do that, but some other sites say I should X out o... Read more

Hi, this is my first post, but I'm glad I found a forum like this for guys like me.

My specs:

HP Envy M4-1015dx
Windows 8
Intel HD 4000
8 gb RAM
1 TB HDD

My situation: I read that there was an update to Intel HD 4000's graphics driver for Windows 8.

(on 9/11/2013 - here's the link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...+4000&lang=eng)

I ran my system through the Intel Automatic Update Utility, and it told me that my HD 4000 graphic drivers were customized by the OEM, and that I'd have to update through the HP support website.

So I went to the HP website, found my drivers, but alas, their version is from 10/18/2012! That's a year old! (Link - Software & driver downloads HP ENVY m4-1015dx Notebook PC | HP? Support)

My question: Is it safe for me to download the update from Intel, and install it manually through Intel? Thanks for the help

Hello Shaftie and welcome to Eight forums. As Intel notes, you shouldn't download their driver updates from their website if your OEM has customized a driver for your laptop specifically as it may cause issues for you.

But i keep reading on here how people update drivers. Is this absolutely necessary for proper operation of a pc? I do hear it can improve system performance, how true is this? And if i should be updating drivers, how often? I do hear about these tools that can get updates for you but how authentic are they? Is it necessary. Hi folks,

I've never done this before but think I have to now (some issues with maya, ruled out all graphic card issues and have been advised probs are related to motherboard drivers).

the board is a gigabyte GA-K8NF-RH and has it's original drivers.

From the gigabyte site, I have downloaded a file called motherboard_driver_for_ide nvidia_nf4.exe (after selecting my exact model) dated 2005.

Confusingly I have also checked nvidia's own site, and after selecting what I think is the correct chipset I've downloaded 6.86 nvidia driver for the chipset (which is newer).

I don't know the difference between motherboard and chipset drivers; should I install both these or only one? Also, should I uninstall the old ones first same as a graphic card driver - and if so how? I beleve I have to with nforce hardware.

Only ever dealt with gpu drivers before so hit a bit of a wall here.

Any advice appreciated!

cheers

gubar

A:Updating motherboard drivers

Chipset is critical to normal operation. Do not use anything that has not been specifically recommended by Gigabyte. The chipset impacts on how the motherboard uses everything else you have installed.
In this order, I would check BIOS to assure you have the latest update. Chipset, Power management if there is one, Audio, Network/Ethernet drivers, then go down the list, installing everything else, one at a time.

Hello,

I will be getting a new desktop PC very soon. I will choose my requirements along with an OS which they will build for me etc. This will not be a PC that I put together myself though, it will be a custom-built with my specs.

Q: Apart from updating the graphics drivers at some point in the future, will I need to consider updating any other drivers at some point or straight away? ie motherboard, chipset etc

I ask, as I was watching 'build your own PC' on youtube and there was a part near the end where it said you have to update your drivers and gave a short list. I'm assuming this is just for users who build their own PCs?

Also, will my custom built PC come with recovery discs and would this be the same and/or equivalent of 'clean install image' they advise for build your own PC?

Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks

A:Need help Updating sound drivers

We will need some spec's on your computer. Mobo and sound card make and models please.
Or in device manager under Sound, video and game controllers you can update driver software from there but it's best to have makes and models and go to manufactures web site for the updates.

Hi there people!!

I would like to upgrade my VGA drivers, so I can see if I get better performance on some stuff (like games and so...)... the problem is that in Acer.com they have no upgrades for my model (in my sig), so, I was willig that the generic drivers provided in AMD can do for my lappy... I used the Udate advisor app from them and says that 11.8 driver is the latest for me... but is known that manufacturers do specific mods for the device drivers...

Do you recomend upgrading with the latest AMD drivers or I need to wait for Acer to release a new set?

Thanks In advance.

See ya!!!!

A:Updating ATI VGA Drivers, Will I get any problem?

If Acer don't have any updated drivers you can by all means try the manufacturer's latest offerings.

Create a restore point first, so that if you encounter a problem you can always restore your computer to a time before you updated the driver.

In addition, you need to be aware that the manufacturer's drivers will probably have different functionality to your OEM (Acer) drivers, and if you experience a problem you can always just roll back to the previous driver by going into device manager and expanding the graphics adapter then clicking the Driver tab.

I have a Acer laptop which I've had for a while and I like to game a lot on it but it crashes a lot for different games from different companies.  The Nvidia drivers are easy to find and get but a recent support told me my CPU drivers are outdated.  The Acer Care Center app says everything is up to date.  I look at my CPU drivers and they are from 2009!  That sounds really old to me.  I looked on the website for my model laptop and found some new drivers which I've installed but not sure they apply to the CPU.  The closest one I think may is the Chipset driver.  I haven't tried any games since then but could someone tell me if that is the correct driver or where I may find a CPU driver if not (It's not listed as far as I can see).  I also have Shadowplay crash tons on me but again, my Nvidia software and drivers are up to date.I already tried going to Intel's site for the drivers but can't install them from them.  Downloading the driver itself won't install because it says PC manufacture has different drivers.  I also tried their app for auto detecting and downloading but it has the same results.  So far me and other people think this is an Acer problem, and hopefully it can be an easy fix.  I have an old Desktop I built myself back when the first Core i CPU's came out and to this day, I have none of these problems on that.

A:Updating drivers on VN7-591G

Hi, You really missuse the term CPU. You will not find any "CPU" driver to install for your system. You will find the chipset drivers and the integrated GPU drivers (in your case most probably intel hd graphics 4600). The integrated GPU and the CPU are not the same stuff. Read the solution from this post and do as jose423 suggested:http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/VN7-591G-latest-driver-2016/m-p/433870#M10133 When you go to the intel webpage a yellow line will appear which will notice you that newer version of the driver is available. Try to download the latest version of the driver.

I wanted to hear your opinions on what software you think is more reliable for updating the drivers. The reason I ask is because I am currently running two driver update programs but each of them are showing different updates for the hardwares. I read somewhere that drivers for 64 bit processors are difficult to find and those companies usually update the 32 bit.

A:Software for updating the drivers

Let`s stop using such a programs.Best drivers are from Manufacturer`s website.

I always worry when updating drivers.

My Dell laptop is running well at the moment but there are a few drivers that need updating.

I have checked the Dell website for drivers that need updating (using the Service Tag) and there are about ten that need doing.

Do I really need to update them, and if I do, should I install a certain driver first before any others?

Can I switch back to the driver I am using now if things go wrong?

Thanks

A:Updating 8.1 drivers for first time

If your laptop is "running well", I wouldn't bother with updating the drivers, except maybe the one for your graphics card if you play recent games.

A:Updating Video Drivers

Try again, and this time tell the wiz that you will pick the location. Direct it to system 32, and if that doesn't work you will need to download the driver from the net. I think you can find it in windows by location and/or device. There are many intel devices stored in windows. Good luck.

Bought a new computer, AMD 3400+ 64bit, and am having a problem that i did not have on the other computer playing the same game.

As far as i know the only difference between the two computers is the prosessors and the MoBo, but not 100% sure.

I was told some of the problems im having with new cpu is that some of my drivers need updated, but i can't find the drivers for my MoBo and the onboard sound that goes with it.

How would i go about checking to see if ALL my drivers are updated?.

I have already updated the Video card driver as it's an ATI Radeon 9800pro and that was easy, but when i look for MoBo driver the listings have more info then i have and i wanna get the right one. What file do i need to show ya's to see what i got? DxDiag will be pasted here for reference, let me know what else you will need.

A:How do I find out if my drivers need updating and where?

Hi, The MS windows update only relates to the Windows operating system plus MS Office and MS security programs if you have them installed.
The other devices that make up your pc will have the same drivers that were installed at the time it was built, and it could be that they are still the best version for your pc.
You have a way of checking for updated drivers through 'Control Panel', 'Hardware', 'Device manager'.
If you right-click on the 'Display' entry, and select the 'update drivers' option, it will find an update if there is one.
The device drivers come from the manufacturer of each device, rather than Microsoft.
If you think your pc is running slowly, that's partly due to installing more software than you started with.
But some maintenance never is a bad thing, and on my pc I use;
- CCleaner www.piriform.com/ccleaner (Use this with all the settings as it installs, please don't be tempted to tick all the options, you could be in for a long wait.)
-Auslogics disk defrag http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download/
-Ultradefrag http://www.filehippo.com/download_ultradefrag/
-Iobit Smart defrag 2 http://download.cnet.com/Smart-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10759533.html?tag=mncol;1#editorsreview

These are available from the Downloads section of this site, or use the links above.
I would say to avoid any links or programs that promise to update everything for you, or to fix all the problems on your pc.

Hello all!

I just recently installed The Sims 2 on my computer. I have the base game, Family Fun Stuff, and the Pets expansion pack. (Bear with me...this IS an audio question!)

Anyway, I've been having issues with the game freezing during gameplay. I tried deleting all my custom content, thinking I had something buggy...didn't help. Tried turning down all my graphics options....didn't help. Defragged my hard drive...nope. Played the game offline and used Task Manager to end all my non-essential processes...still no go.

Then someone suggested that I try playing the game in "no-sound" mode.

Lo and behold...it worked. No freezing.

But I don't really relish the idea of playing with no sound at all. So I want to update my audio drivers, but I've got no idea where to get the updated driver. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

According to DxDiag, this is the info for my sound card:

Device Details:
Name: SigmaTel Audio
Device ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01VEN_8384DEV7690SUBSYS_1
Manufacturer ID: 1
Product ID: 100
Type: WDM

Driver Details:
Name: sthda.sys
Version: 5.10.4823.0000 (English)
Date: 11/16/2005 15:36:00
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Other Files
Provider: SigmaTel

I cannot find an updated version of the driver for the life of me. Is there one, and if so, where in the world do I find it?!

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have question. I have installed Windows 8.1 on second PC and it already had installed lot of drivers. But most of these drivers are from Microsoft and from year 2006 i think. For example, when I have actually installed by default "High Definition Audio" (Windows provided driver), it is Realtek High Definition audio but driver is outdated. Then I downloaded from Realtek webpage driver, and what should I do now?

1. Is better to uninstall this old driver inside device manager and then open downloaded setup.exe then reboot

OR

2. When I just open setup.exe to install driver?

Which method is correct?

//EDIT

I also want to ask about one thing, when I was installing Windows. When I created new partition with full size of HDD, it has maximum size. But when I format that partition it has like 0.3gb less.

A:Which way is correct, when updating drivers

I just install the newer manufacturer supplied drivers over the existing Windows default driver. It hasn't caused me any issues that I know of. The default drivers will likely just automatically reinstall anyway after a reboot etc.
You'll lose some space to the file system when you format the drive.

I had previously had this problem late last year (2010), it is still happening although not as often. The only things that I have noticed are the browsers (IE and Chrome) acting up before the BSOD. I updated all of my drivers (Sonic, USB, GPU, Printer, really all of them). That seemed to work for about a month, now the problem is back.

Here are my components:

OS: Windows Professional 64 bit
Case: Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 RC-1000
PSU: SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, latest bios FB18
CPU: Intel Core i7-980X
GPU: Quadro 5000
BD/CD/DVD: LITE-ON iHBS112
RAM: Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 (recommended by MOBO manufacturer)
Hardrives: (2) Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM set as RAID 0. This is for the OS and Software
(2) SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 set as RAID 1. This is for work Files and Projects.
Peripherals:
Tablet: Wacom Intuous GD-0608-U
Monitor: Dell U2410
Webcam: Philips SPC900NC
Printer: Epson R280
No overclocking.

I use this system for work (FX and Motion Graphics)

Thank you.

A:Still getting Bluescreen, after updating all my drivers

Hi Getacarlos, one of you dumps pointed to NETIO.SYS as a possible issue. The driver date listed for your Broadcom NetXtreme II 10 GigE VBD is 12/31/2008 11:29:28 AM. There is a newer driver 14.2.11.1 dated 11/05/10 here.

Please uninstall and install the new driver.

Just out of curiosity is your system running Norton Antivirus?

OK, well, I'm about to reinstall windows dual-booting with ubuntu.

Now, I don't want to get into why, but I have like no cd's for my essential drivers and software.

I installed Driveragent, here's my results.

Where to go now?

I mean I don't even know which versions to look for..

Go to your motherboard's manufacturers website and look for your boards model VIA drivers. You will need ATI drivers for your video card. Go to the AMD/ATI website for these. Driveragent is telling you what drivers need to be updated, and their names
