Drive Device Drivers needed; please insert floppy/ empty driver folder

Q: Drive Device Drivers needed; please insert floppy/ empty driver folder

I was wondering if anyone could give some insight here. I've gone up to tier 2 techs so far that still don?t seem to have a clue as to what is going on.

This is the gist of what I'm running, to be followed by the quite annoying problem...
-CD:24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive
-CPU:AMD FX-8120 3.10 GHz Eight-Core AM3+ CPU 8MB L2 Cache & Turbo Core Technology
-HDD:* 60 GB OCZ Agility 3 SATA III 6.0Gb/s SSD - 525MB/s Read & 475MB/s Write [-60] (60GB x 2 (120GB Capacity) Raid 0 Extreme Performance)
-MEMORY:8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/2000MHz Dual Channel Memory
-MOTHERBOARD:* [CrossFireX] GigaByte GA-970A-D3 AMD 970 Socket AM3+ ATX Mainboard w/ On/Off Charge, 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe X16, 3 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI
-OS:None - FORMAT HARD DRIVE ONLY

The OS, of course is the problem here. I have read up on and been told many things each less helpful than the last. I'm going to tell you what is happening and maybe let you draw up a better theory.

I boot up the machine, and just like normal it prompts you to insert your disk. I put the windows 7 home ed. 64bit OS full version disk in and it starts to run through it. I get past the part where it is asking me for the language, country, and currency to the part where it is collecting information. This is where I get my error. It tells me that I need CD/DVD drive device drivers. I followed the last techs advice all of the way to when he was stumped...I got onto the AMD web site and downloaded the AHCI and RAID drivers onto a thumb drive. Only problem is, when I open up the appropriate removable disk drive all it shows is empty folders for the AHCI & RAID. The tech traced my steps and says..."hmm oh my, you're right, the folders are empty. I've never seen that before...I need to talk with my colleagues and I'll try to get back with you tomorrow.?

Wtf man. Maybe it?s just my no bull shit way of thing but don?t believe that they weren?t supposed to have these on there already. Installing an operating system is supposed to be a run of the mil procedure that any Joe Blow can do?not go over the head of their ?teir two techs?.

Can anyone give me a plain easy to understand and follow answer to this?

Did you extract the download first (7zip works well for this), or just put the downloaded exe on the thumb drive? It needs to be extracted first to see the files inside,

and you will find the appropriate files in the,

C:\Users\Richard\Desktop\12-4_vista_win7_32-64_sb\$_OUTDIR\Packages\Drivers

folder. You also shouldn't need them as the native Windows driver will work. I have an Asus motherboard with the exact same AMD 970/950 chipset on it and didn't need any drivers when installing Windows.

One other thing that it could be is if your DVD drive is SATA. For whatever reason if it is a SATA drive and configured as such in the bios, Windows will throw up that message. If it is a SATA drive, figure out which connector it is on on the motherboard and go into the bios and configure that port/connector to IDE mode,

Im installing a clean installation of vista on my Dell inspiron 530s because the HDD crashed. Hi everyone,

after deleting accidentally some files while installing windows 7 I'm trying to install it again, but this message appears:to install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, ,insert installation media containing the driver files and then click OK and this message too: the installation media can be a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive and the next message: No device were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers and then click OK

My motherboard: H81M-K, Asus

I tried to copy drivers for this motherboard, but there are too many drivers and as well as I don't know which one I need, I can't achieve the installation of Widows 7. What can I do, can you suggest?

A:to install the device driver needed to access your hard drive..

I think that the best way is to create a new CD. Format while installing and it will work
Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River
I think that you deleted files from the CD.
While installing disconnect everything except the internet, be online while installing.

I don't know if it is just the type of disc i bought as they worked fine on my sister in law's pc. When it comes to burning a disc we keep getting the 'drive is empty, please insert disc' and there is a disc in there. It works occasionally if you keep putting disc's in there (which is a painful process till one works). I've only had this pc 2 months, the tech support seem to think it's the disc that are wrong, i've so far uninstalled and reinstalled the disc drive. Any other ideas?

A:when burning cd's drive 'empty' please insert disk

Could be the Drive or the Media. Post specs on both please.

Sometimes it's a compatibility problem, so drives just don't like some media, even though both are good. At least that's what I read in places like Afterdawn and CDRInfo. Personally, I've never experienced the "this good drive won't run this good media".

However, I have found that my really nice BenQ 1640 won't even sniff at the cruddy Memorex media I bought at Wal-Mart, much less take a bite out of it.

It might also be a matter of quality. Maybe your sister's drive is better. (Meaning the drive is more a determining factor than is the computer itself.)

The easiest thing to do is buy a small package of high-end media and try it. (True CD-burning freaks swear by something called Tayo-Uden, or however you spell it. But then they argue over this as well.)

How are you doing your burning ? Using WinXP, or 3rd party software?

Sometimes WinXP's CD/DVD burning abilities are not as good as your average User would expect. Serious CD/DVD burners (the people not the hardware) always use 3rd-party, such as Nero, Roxio and some others.

I use Nero. It has a fairly long and steep learning curve, but once you know what you are doing (takes a while) it is rock-solid reliable and never spits out a coaster that I didn't create due to not knowing what I was doing.

Hi, I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro SP2 on my Compaq CQ62-423NR laptop.

I use this laptop for work. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium. During the past few days, a computer on our company's network was infected with a virus. It spread to our company's network drive (NAS) and infected many of the files. When I used my computer to access the network drive, the virus infected my computer, and for some reason, AVG wasn't able to detect the virus until it was too late. I.T. has restored the network drive from a backup, and all ordered everyone to restore from a clean backup or reinstall Windows. I have made backups before, but they were stored on the computer's hard drive and I.T. says the backups may be infected, so I can not use them.

It's been a long time since the warranty expired. HP doesn't want to let me order recovery media. Then I made a dumb move and deleted the Windows 7 partition, hoping to be able to install Windows XP. But there was a problem with that.

If I simply boot from the installation CD, a BSoD (STOP) appears. After some research, I found out this is because my laptop's hard drive has AHCI and there is no option in the BIOS (InsydeH20 Rev 3.5) to disable it.

I read somewhere that I can either use a floppy drive to load the AHCI drivers before installation, or slipstream the ISO/install CD and add the AHCI drivers to the list of drivers that come built-in.

Since I'm trying to install Windows XP on a lapt... Read more

Hey guys, I've had an empty Device Manager for a long time and I'm only now trying to find out how to fix it.

I didn't really worry about it before because everything was working fine, even though it was empty. But recently when I've been trying to install drivers for my video card, and my new game controller there have been issues. For example the driver installation for my radeon 9600 card refuses to start up. And the driver installer for my gamepad fails to recognize that it's even plugged in (even though games recognize the controller just fine).

I'm guessing these driver problems are related to the empty device manager? The installer won't install the drivers because it doesn't think the devices are even installed or plugged in the computer.

These are the things I've tried so far. I got these solutions from google searching.
Checking Plug and Play - It's set to automatic.
mscoonfig -> services - Hide All Microsoft Services is unchecked.
Aproposfix.exe - Still empty.
Editing Permissions in the Registry - Still doesn't work.

I've ran spyware and virus tests too. They found a lot of things, but I'm still having trouble.

Any ideas guys?

A:help needed with floppy driver!

How many times are you accessing this file in one sitting?
When you constantly access a floppy file, you get what's called a cyclic redundancy check. It's kinda like the floppy's telling you "leave me the hell alone already!" why it does that, i don't know.

I've spent the past three years trying my best to avoid floppy diskettes, tape decks, vcr's and other obselete analog devices.

Running Windows 7 64 bit

As the title says, my device manager and network connections folder are empty. In addition, whenever I try to access a connection's properties, I get this: "Windows has encountered an error saving the wireless profile. Specific error: The data is invalid."

I noticed these issues while trying to fix something else. Recently, my internet connection has randomly been unable to connect to/had awful ping. When running a troubleshooter, I am told: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration." The first time I troubleshooted, the problem was solved automatically, but this does not happen anymore.

A:Device Manager & Network Connections Folder Empty

If this happened recently try doing a System Restore.  Use a restore point dated prior to this problem.

If this doesn't resolve this, please run the sfc /scannow.

Please run System File Checker

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Click on the Start orb and then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

In the pane above the search box Programs will appear with cmd below it, right click on cmd and select Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.

This will open the Elevated Command Prompt, it will look similar to the image below.

Copy and paste sfc /scannow in the command prompt, then press Enter to start the scan.

If the scan finds no integrity  problems the scan will stop.  Type in exit, then press Enter to stop the scan.

When the scan is finished and if intergrity issues are found (corrupt files that couldn't be repaired), please do the following.

Click on the Start orb then type cmd in the Search box.

CMD will appear above the search box, right click on it and select Run as administrator.

Hello

I am confronted with an issue with two USB devices:

One of the USB devices is a USB earphone - the driver of which none of my computers can find.
It was functioning well for the past few years
- however, abruptly was rendered unusable after being frequently moved from one computer to the other.
The second USB device is a flash drive - the driver of which is located and installed.
However - post installation, upon attempting to access the drive, it states to 'insert a disk into the (letter) drive' (thus not recognizing or accessing the actual drive).

This particular device was also functioning fine - however, while moving files to it - it abruptly malfunctioned.
Both these drives malfunctioned (at different times) when they were plugged in a particular USB port on aparticular laptop...
Thus I speculate that the particular USB port was malfunctioning?
In either case - none of these usb devices work on any computer...
I would appreciate if anyone might please instruct me on the procedure of correcting these issues -
as well inform me as to the reason the usb port & devices malfunctioned

Thank you

My friend is trying to install windows 7 from a usb flash drive. It boots fine from usb fine and starts the setup however when she goes to install it asks "insert the media device and select the driver windows 7". Ive looked around the forums and google and found that this can be a usb 2.0 , 3.0 problem with people just switching to the 2.0 slot and it working. However this does not work for her and so I looked around more and found it might be needing the drivers for the USB ports had her insert the disc that came with the motherboard however non of the setups in the usb folder work and im not sure which specific file she needs to choose to get the driver to install or 100 % if that is even the issue. Any ideas? Intel? Desktop Board DZ68DB - Overview this is the board Forgot to mention this hard drive is from her older computer so its a new motherboard / cpu / ram.

A:insert the media device and select the driver windows 7

I could be wrong here, but since the PC boots from the USB drive and starts the installation, it obviously does not need to install drivers to use the USB drive. My guess is that it wants drivers for the hard drive.

Hi all,

I burned an MP3 disk with Nero about 10 days ago, and lately when I try to burn anything it's giving that message -- insert empty medium. Nothing I seem to do works, restarting, with and without an disk in the drive. Both my drives are doing this, both show in "properties" that the entire space is used on the disk it THINKS is in the drive even when there is no disk in the drive. Anyone know why it's doing this and how to correct it? I reinstalled Nero. Grrr....

Normal Drive letter vs Mounting a volume as an empty folder

Hello,

I was wondering what the prime uses for a logical drive (just assigning it as the letter F: for example ) might be vs. Mounting the logical drive as an empty folder that supports drive paths?

And why someone would want to use one option vs. the latter? (common uses).

thanks for any ideas.

I ask the question as posed in the title for the simple fact that the floppy drives on two of the computers I have here can no longer read any information that is saved to them and a pop up window appears saying " No information on disk " then " Do you want to format ".

At some point while back I took all information off those floppys and saved it to CD-R disks, but, the question I have to ask is this:

Some updates from sites require the use of the floppy drive to copy and install files to the computer. Since the floppy drives are basically not functioning, can these updates or whatever be done from CD-r/rw or DVD-r/rw drives???

A:Floppy Drive Function - Still Needed - Yes/No.

I suppose it depends on the kind of update you mean. If you are talking about flashing the BIOS, click here for a link to instructions on how to burn a bootable CD to flash a BIOS. Whether or not you have access to another PC with a floppy and Nero software is another question but at least it can be done.

If you mean installing SATA/RAID drivers when installing Windows XP, you can create a slipstream CD with Windows XP and the SATA/RAID drivers combined. You can google for that since there are several sites that give you that procedure.

I've never had to use those procedures myself as I still have functioning floppy drives but the point is it can be done. If there is some other updating you are talking about, give the particulars and maybe someone else can describe what to do or you might google and find it.

I actually haven't used a floppy drive since I went to XP a couple of years ago. The XP disk is bootable, and you can make a bootable CD easy enough. I don't know of any extreme emergency where I would need a floppy. The reason I am even asking is because I would like to get rid of my floppy drive all together. It takes extra time on boot, it grunts and grinds like a normal floppy.
Who is still using one? I mean I guess I could remove it and put it back in if I ever needed it, but I don't want to rip it out if I can find a good reason to keep it. I haven't found any by myself, maybe you guys can help me decide.

A:is the floppy disk drive needed in this day + age?

A floppy drive can be necessary for BIOS flashing and booting in DOS If you get a nasty virus or a corrupted boot line in your HDD.If you use older programs that were made in the DOS,Win 3.1,Win95 era they may only save to a floppy. Floppy is also good for saveing files like Word doccuments,Excel spreadsheats, and other files that need to be transported from one computer to another but are too small to waste a CD on.You should defently keep your floppy. If air flow is a problem replace the ribbon with a round cable.

Hi All,

I have an external USB floppy drive that I bought from Amazon (I am not sure what make it is but appears as a Sony external drive in Device Manager).

I have a Macbook Pro, running Windows 7 Ultimate in bootcamp (native). I have no warning icons next to the device in Device Manager and it appears in My Computer as drive A. When I go to open up a floppy disk I get the message: The request could not be completed because of an I/O device error.

After some research I noticed people saying it was either the floppy drive cable or the drive itself that could be faulty. However, using the device (and the same floppy disk) on my home built PC running Windows 2003 Server, SP2 it works flawlessly.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I was hoping to use this device to create start up disks for old PC's that I rebuild. Using on my home built PC isn't really a viable option as sometimes I need to take the drive with me.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me and if you need any further information I will do my best to supply it.

I'm having some issue with my computer, and to solve that I'm trying to install Windows 7 again. I've yet NOT managed to do that ever on this computer, which is about 1 year old. There's no multiboot or whatever, BUT, there is a RAID controller active, and RAID is actually enabled. Actually, now that I threw away all content, I can easily switch RAID to non-RAID, but that doesn't seem to help THIS problem:

I have a LEGAL copy of Windows7, which SHOULD be the Windows I had running. I never installed Windows initially since the shop did that for me.

OK, when I try to install Windows, at some point it says the device drivers are not present, and thus Windows cannot install. It keeps looping into the same error, if I boot from DVD.

I DID use my DVD drive on Windows when I was able to use my computer, I never had any issue with that. I don't understand what driver I need, when I am installing from DVD.

Either he totally cannot read the DVD, but how do I end up in Windows screen then ? Obviously, Windows want to start installation, but then fails over something. Maybe the disk is not valid (it is new though).

Any advice here ?

I disabled RAID for the moment, but that does not help anything. Before the re-installation, this setup (BIOS Intel Raid storage) did report an issue with 1 of both disks, but that error is gone now.

It's not clear if Windows is an issue here, but a clean system reacting this way, obviously something is wrong.

A:Windows install : device drivers needed

In command prompt do:

Code:

Do you see both disks (that were RAID)? Look at the disk size , so you know what is what. Assume it's disk 7 and 8 (replace with actual disk numbers!)

Code:

select disk 7
clean
select disk 8

A friend mentioned a problem with his pc only after transferring some bits from my external hard drive, these problems have now spread to my pc...I assume through the hard drive as the initial symptoms are similar. The virus shuts down task manager and regedit functions on the computer, these have been fixed using some programs / methods I found through internet research. I also found that in the registry it had put into one of the HKEY folders a new profile with some random numbers then my computer name in the form (39264_Pcname), I deleted this when I found it hence the vagueness of the profile name. The main problem I have at the moment is that whenever an external storage volume such as my external hard drive or memory cards are attached they appear in my computer as an empty folder.....If the empty folder is double clicked on to open it then it runs the virus and remakes the aforementioned registry changes and disables ask manager. Interestingly I have found that when you open the external hard drive using the autoplay function that pops up the virus does not effect the pc. As in it only seems to work through the "my computer" folder interface. I cannot find anything malicious on the pc or hardrive myself so I have posted on here to see if there are any ideas. Thanks for your time.

In reference to the DDS.txt document.....I hope I have posted it up as you desire.

Hi,

There seems to be P2P file sharing software installed. Nowadays big part of infections spreads in P2P networks. I recommend to uninstall such software.

Have those external drive(s), that have been used with this system during the symptoms you described, plugged in so that we can get them clean. Don't unplug during the process.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer to make sure it won't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again: Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
select
Advanced Mode

On the left hand side, click on Tools
Then click on the Resident icon in the list
Uncheck

Am trying to instookall a Seagate SATA HD in my notebook and put XP on it. The drive is identical to the original that has Vista on it, just smaller (80 gig vs 120 gig) During setup XP asks for a HD driver but wil only allow installing the driver from a floppy, this machine has NO floppy. I have the OEM driver CD but am at a loss as to how to get the SATA driver onto the new drive...? Not sure if that is problem. Used Maxblast to partition the drive but the drive does not show up on the main channel. It shows up in the BIOS/CMOS and Maxblast can see it but also indicated the drive was on a "other" channel. The XP setup routine insists there is no HD in the system. Is this possibly a bad HD? I formatted it once NTFS then tried FAT32, no good either way. I am using the old Vista drive right now, no problem with it. Please suggest...

A:How to load the SATA drivers for XP on a laptop with no floppy drive

Hi Tim !

It's better to start your own thread since your problem is not the same as the other user's and we prefer to keep one thread per user anyway.

You'll first have to find the proper XP drivers for the SATA controller used by your laptop. What's your laptop brand and model ? Go on the manufacturer's website and see if they have the SATA/RAID drivers for XP. If they don't have them then look for the chipset used by your laptop and download those drivers from the chipset manufacturer's website.

Once that's done please see these threads to learn how to allow XP to detect your SATA drive by changing some settings in the BIOS or how to load the SATA drivers when you have no floppy drive :

Hello everyone,

This morning I checked and saw a new folder named "A" on my C:\ drive.

It's quite strange as I've just recently reformatted my computer and have zone alarm internet security (7.1.248) installed, as well as sunbelt's counterspy v2. I performed scans using those two programs as well as superantispyware, avg antispyware, b-i-t-defender online scan, panda active scan online, and checked my HiJack This! log and compared it to the day after I formatted (they look the same), I also ran F-secure's antirootkit and AVG's antirootkit. The scans were done in normal and safe mode with the most updated definitions for each.

All come up clean, and I'm sure stumped...

This "A" folder has come up about 9 months before, but I've reformatted since then.

Has anyone else had trouble using a USB floppy drive in win7? The drive does not appear in My Computer, I have tried troubleshooting the device, uninstalling it and re-installing it and trying to install other drivers to resolve the issue (windows will not accept others as it already has the best driver apparently...). I'm at a loss now I have even tried using drivermax to correct the problem but even that does not recognise the device.

To ensure it wasn't an issue with the Floppy drive itself I have even tried using another, with the same result.

Any advice would be appreciated.

My external HDD has quite a lot of data contained in the system volume information folder. As system restore is not activate on this drive & the drive is used specifically for imaging purposes I take it the data relates to the Win indexing service.

As I am now using a third party search application can I now disable the windows search system & if the system is disabled will this by default empty the SVI folder.

Any relevant advice would be appreciated.

I have a Lenovo laptop, running Windows 7, 64-bit. It's 3 years old but has ran perfectly until now. The issue i'm having isn't with my laptop, however, but it did create the problem...

After doing a routine update, my laptop wouldn't start up. I was forced to do a system restore, so I lost everything. It was set back to factory settings. I got it going again, it's fine, but my bluetooth headphones won't work anymore. It says I need to install a bluetooth peripheral device driver. I have tried a few solutions others have had, like downloading a driver (every time I tried, it said network error, but I am online so I don't know why it didn't download). I also tried installing something called "windows mobile device center' which didn't help at all, and I could do nothing with it, I can't even uninstall it so now i'm stuck with it I guess, but it's useless. I also tried right clicking on all my bluetooth icons (under device manager) and updating through there, sometimes some of them successfully 'updated', but nothing changed so I doubt anything really happened.

I CAN add my headphones to my laptop, it shows up under the bluetooth devices, but it has the yellow exclamation point saying to troubleshoot, and of course when I do, it says there are no drivers installed. The headphones didn't come with a CD, they were simple to install and took 5 minutes, apparently my laptop at the time had the right driver, which now apparently it lost in the system restore. Calling on all Bleepin' XP-erts!!! I need some help here, although there's no sense of urgency, it's only a superficial problem--at least I think it is. Dell Laptop Win XP Home SP 3 During the course of normal system maintenance--cleaning up files, folders, progs & such I came across a folder in C:\Program files\ microsoft frontpage (I thought it odd that it was listed in lower-case) A check of it's properties showed it empty but for 2 sub-folders--also empty. I don't recall ever having "frontpage" installed, never heard of it in fact. The two sub-folders are "version3.0" and "bin" Long story short, after un-ticking the "read-only" box & applying it to all folders contained I tried to delete the frontpage folder. It would not delete because (bin) is being used by another person or program. Close any programs ...etc...and try again.I tried renaming the "bin" folder & deleting, tried dragging it to another directory and deleting it from there...no dice. All this was done while keeping the "properties" dialog boxes open for all 3 folders (click "apply" & NOT OK or close). I have a Toshiba P875-S7200 laptop. I put an Intel 240GB SSD in it, put an untouched Windows 7 x64 on it (using X17-58997.ISO), and activated it with my own COA key.
I got all the missing drivers installed except for one. Using the VEN and DEV #'s from the Hardware ID and going to sites like pcidatabase.com, etc, I learned what the (vaguely labeled) mystery hardware was, then got the official drivers from toshiba.com.
Problem is, this last one labeled Unknown device, has an unusual Hardware ID that looks like this:
ACPI\TOS620A
*TOS620A.
I'm reluctant to install any driver software to have it find out but I was wondering about the drivers from DriverPacks.net. The page I'd be getting them from is here. Not knowing which driver I need, I wanted to get all of them, put on a DVD, then point the Device Manager to the disc to hopefully install it.
Is it safe to use the drivers from this site? If I get them and scan them with MBAM, SAS, and Avast, as long as they're clean, are they okay to use? I'm very leary of these things and could use some expert insight here.
If I shouldn't use these drivers, then what should I do about this mystery driver?
Thank you.

Hi Lee,

The DriverPacks.net packages are safe to use but I'm not sure they include what you need...

ACPI\TOS620A is related to software, go to the Toshiba website and type your serial number then on the list of drivers and software look for the HDD Protection Utility install and restart the computer.

Blue screen error caused by a device or driver

You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.
Okay iam running windows xp....ive been having problems with my pc forever and i can never seem to work out if its bad ram or a memory issue. Anytime my pc is running for a long period of time it seems to hang and give me the blue screen, if i try to run a media program or burn a cd or anything along those lines it hangs also....What could this problem be? do i need to let someone look into my system or can it be resolved at all.

Ive had every error msg i believe...it seems to always tell me its a device error when it hangs or when i reboot it gives me that msg and then reports the problem..

Any help would be gratful...by the way ive run scans and all sorts, theirs no virus or anything, i run a and anti virus program by AVG.

When I go to open a program I've recently installed, half way through loading I'll get an error message reading:

The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive A: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." Cancel, Try Again, and Continue, to which I press continue to.

Then I get "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert disk into drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1" with Cancel, Try Again, and Continue, to which I press Continue to and another appears but with \Harddisk2\DR2 and so on. After pressing continue to 1 2 3 and 4, the program continues to load fine.

After doing some google searching I see suggestions about renaming the troublesome drive something other than C (apparently this error happens when 2 drives are called C) but there is no drives involved? its just a program, so theres nothing to change, does anyone have any ideas as to why these errors appear? :S

EDIT: Ok... So I need to create a SATA floppy, which I didn't know I need to create (yes, I am using a Sata 1 drive). So, how do you create this floppy drive (gladly I have a second machine with a floppy)? I just need the general idea of it (how to create the floppy itself so it "works"), I'll take care of finding the correct drivers themselves...

(Admins, is it possible that you rename my thread to something like "creating SATA drivers floppy"?)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good morning all!

My parts are [supposed] to come today (well, the rest of them, that is). So I should be building my new system in a few days or so. But for the windows installation, do I need a floppy drive, too? So far I've bought only a DVD/CD ROM so I can install from any kind of CD/DVD (plus its very cheap if you aren't saving data on discs), so I should be able to get by. But I want to make sure that somewhere in the middle of the process of installing something it says "please make a floppy with [insert what here] and boot up from it to [insert action here]".

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:creating SATA drivers floppy (Do I need a floppy?)

In the beginning of the installation it says you should press F6 to load additional drivers. You don't know what these additional drivers are or you are already away making a sandwich in the kitchen, so the message disappears and the setup continues.

Later on, if you have a SATA hard drive, the WIndows installerwill say that it can't find any hard drives. And then, when you ask someone about this pecualiar message, you are told that you should have made a special floppy disk containing SATA drivers and pressed that F6 key

I have a Compaq Presario 5000 PC model 5BW284. I use Windows XP Pro. I recently attempted to back up my entire system using the Backup wizard utility provided on the OS. It took me over 3 hours using two USB flash drives. The process had less than two minutes remaining when a box came up telling me to insert a floppy disk.

Why on earth would it tell me to insert a 3.5 floppy after spending hours backing up hard drive contents on large capacity USB devices? A floppy only holds 1.44 MB anyway. Is the floppy needed for boot-up in case of hard drive failure?

So anyway, I couldn't find a floppy anywhere in the house. Then that box telling me to insert floppy disappears. So I guess the process never finished?

How do I complete this last step that was supposed to be done with the floppy?

Gateway computer with Gateway 15" LCD monitor, 1999 with W95 on it. Running 800x600.
NVidia TNT video card with DVI connection only.

1st Problem - monitor went black. Gateway support says "monitor is dead" after doing some tests. Tests included running self-test on monitor, reseating the video card and various reboots.

Solution - replaced with new Sony LCD monitor using DVI cable. This new monitor has both a DVI and a VGA port on it and you must select the right one to get it to work. After a little reading, got it right, declared victory.

2nd Problem - I was just typing an email and the monitor goes blank. The only way to get it back on was to do a cold power off reboot! And it seems it resets the monitor's port selection when powered off, so that had to be set again.

3rd Problem - I wanted to backup some files, so I put a floppy disk in the drive and the durn monitor goes black immediately! Once again a cold power off reboot was required.

Assumption on my part on the 2nd problem is "power management" so I turned it all off. But I need to use the floppy drive to back up my files. How can this floppy drive do anything to my monitor?

Apparently, I am one of many who seem to be having this issue. And just like everybody else, I turned to Google for some answers. Here is my scenario (perhaps gregrocker could point me in the right direction?):

I am running on a laptop with the following specs:

Dell Studio 1735
32-bit Vista Home Premium, SP1
Intel 2 Core Duo, T8100 @ 2.10 GHz
250 GB SATA HDD, 5400 RPM
4 GBs of RAM
256 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

I downloaded the .iso image of Windows 7 through the software program at Penn State and burned it to a DVD. When I restart my computer and boot off of the DVD drive, I get the Windows 7 Installation interface. As the setup begins, I get an error message that says "Load Driver" across the top of the window, and says "A required CD/DVD Drive Device Driver is missing". I tried a few things to circumvent this issue:

1. I swapped out the installation CD with one of the CD's that came with my laptop that contains all of my device drivers. It found one compatible driver for the ATA/ATAPI Controller, and despite selecting it and hitting next, it didn't work.

2. I took the service tag from my laptop, downloaded each and every driver that it's associated with, burned it to an .iso, and swapped THAT out when I tried to install. Again, nothing happened.

Try extracting the ISO to Vista desktop to run Setup from there.

You can locate the driver in Vista's Device Manager SATA controller Driver info tab.

The fact that it would duplicate the error for USB flash install sounds like a malfunction.

Try removing 2 gb of RAM.

Check BIOS version to see if you have the latest.

Checksum the HASH of the ISO you downloaded to confirm it here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/0...vd-iso-images/

I recently purchased a Logitech USB headset, and it worked fine for the first few days I had it. I noticed, however, about two days after the purchase that it failed to work. My USB mouse worked fine, however, so I figured it was the headset.

I discarded the headset and continued using the built-in microphone. Later, however, when I had to restart my system in order to install an update, my mouse stopped working as well (they work fine on other computers). I looked to see what the problem was in the Device Manager, and my Universal Serial Bus driver was apparently damaged, as well as my Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller and my Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller.

I attempted to unistall, reboot my system, and then let Windows automatically reinstall the drivers, but they always fail to do so in the middle of the installation process. I then attempted to do a system restore the day before both the Windows update and then before the problems with the USB headset, but the problem persisted.

If all else fails, I might have to reformat, but I do not want to have to result to that extreme since I cannot salvage anything of value onto an external hardrive.

The PCI to USB Controller has the error:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Comodo has identified a driver in the system32/drivers folder as malware - "tbonaohr.sys". Comodo was unable to quarantine it or delete it. WhatsRunning shows it as a boot-start kernel driver that is running and thus XP won't let me delete the file - even if I boot in safe mode. Not sure what to do next.

Hello all,
In C:\Windows\System32 There is a "Drivers" folder with *.sys files and then there is another folder called "Driver Store".  And I have read online that the Driver Store is a file respository for driver packages and so forth.

But, what is the function of both of these folders?
What is the difference between the Drivers folder and Driver Store?

Thanks!

Hi Malware Specialist!

I started out in the "Am I infected?" Forum and a junior specialist sent me here to get further help, here is the link to the 4 logs I ran for him:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic428124.html/page__p__2477667__hl__polarsnowfall__fromsearch__1#entry2477667

For several days I have been trying to complete the preliminary steps required by this forum, I can not back up to windows/microsoft program (Backup Configuration not valid 0X8100029), but hopefully the two other programs I used were successful, namely cobaine and driveimage. At the end of the driveimage session, it frozen and there was "Globalroot\device" followed by various endings. Then it completed and said finished. Also it went to blue screen the firsttime I tried to run GMER and rebooted.

The main problems of slow programs from startup, no devices in device manager, no audio device and no printing capability began after I ran some kids software games that kinda of frozen the computer, although I believe whatever is making my computer upset has been there for awhile and may have something to do with remnants of roxio 2009 and other shared folders. In services it says "Configuration Manager machine selected for remote communication is not available at this time."

Hi, I have a GigaWare 4GB jump drive that when I plug into my dell inspiron 1720 windows vista computer, a dialogue box comes up that says the driver software cannot be found. This particular model doesn't need driver software. Here are some details to help:
1. It used to have U3 software, but I removed it using the U3 remover tool
2. It is recognized by my mom's msi computer, also using vista. It comes up with the autoplay dialogue box.
3. I have tried removing the corrupted file in the windows folder
4. I have tried renaming the device in manage under My Computer - it comes up with an error that the disk management is not "up to date"
5. I have tried renaming the path to the driver
6. I have tried almost everything that is usually posted.
7. There are files on the jump drive
8. If I reboot my computer with the drive plugged in, it will show up in the My Computer screen, but won't otherwise.

I am running the OS Vista. I have tried this:
1. Open a Windows Explorer window by right clicking on Start and then clicking on Explore.
2. In the address bar, type C:\windows\inf and press Enter.
3. Find and then right click on the file named INFCACHE.1.
4. Select Properties.
5. Click on the Security tab.
6. Click on Edit to edit the permissions of the file.
7. Click on Add to add User Groups.
8. Type Administrators in the User Groups field and click on OK.
9. Set Administrators to Full Control and click on OK.
10. Move or delete the file INFCACHE.1.
11. Reinstall a device to force Windows to rebuild the INFCACHE.1 file (DO NOT reinstall the same external hard drive that you were having issues detecting before. Please connect another USB device other than the one that Vista had an issue detecting).
but have had no luck.
I ran Windows Fix it Center and it came back that I don't have SCSI/RAID Host Controller driver... I can't find a download.

So I guess my questions are:
1. Will installing the SCSI/RAID Host Controller driver fix the problem?
2. Could I be doing something wrong with the INFCACHE.1 part?
3. If number one is yes, then where do I get it?
4. If none of these will solve this, what will?

Thank you so much.

I have a game in my pen drive that is splits second, my friend had given this pen drive to me, but windows explorer is showing that this drive is empty, i have checked it if it is hidden but still it's not showing after i had changed settings for hidden files, and i had checked the drive properties, it is showing that 3.07 GB free of 7.44 GB, please help me...

A:File folder is not showing in my pen drive, showing it is empty.

Hi,

The problem could be because all the data that was present inside the pen drive now have become system files by the virus. This is the reason why they are not visible even with the option “Show Hidden files and folders”.
To remove the problem this is what you need to do.
1. Go to Folder Options -> View tab
2. Make sure that your Show Hidden files and folders option is enabled.
3. Uncheck the option that reads “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)”

Now when you see your pen drive, you will find that your data is present there but in hidden form. There are 2 ways to unhide the data, either right click and uncheck the Hidden box or type in the following command in the command prompt
attrib filename –h –r –s
where filename is the complete location of the file.

Let me know if it solved your problem.

I was in Device Manager regarding another issue I'm having with my Laptop, and I noticed the warning mark at !Slimtype DVDRW SSM-8515s ATA Drive.

To establish the cause of the problem, I ran System Health Report, which came back with the following disturbing information;

Back at Device Manager, at Properties - I collected the following information on the problem;

Which also advises that Windows cannot load the Driver here;

Needless to say, but I did try to update the driver from within Windows, and typically the system reports back that the Driver is the best on offer - corrupted but OK? Rubbish. The same happened when I did a check for Solutions....of course there isn't a solution to this, other than following an uninstall of the corrupted, and reinstall of new, clean Drivers.

I've had a look around on the Web and found an outfit called 'Driver Updater' here , but I'm a bit wary about some of their claims.

In essence, I'm uncertain about how I would best carry out a repair or replacement of the corrupt Driver[s]. Is there a process I need to follow to carry out an uninstall of the corrupt Driver, and then follow up that with the fresh installation of a new Driver package??

And how do I go about determining the best source to provide me with the right Driver package, to exactly mirror the previously uncorrupted version?

A:Laptop CD-ROM Drive - Device Drivers Marked as Corrupt.

Hello there!

Please read through the entire thing first!

I think that Windows possible does have a driver, but not later than the current version. Make a System Restore point, and then uninstall the corrupted driver using Device Manager. Properties > Driver tab > Uninstall.

Now run a new search through device manager, and this time I imagine that a new driver will appear.

I would not trust that website. I recently decided to try out one of the free ones (ie freeware, not trialware) and one that seemed not very pushy. Here are my results (quoted from what I wrote to another member)

A couple of days ago, I saw you asked about one of these driver updater things. I knew of one freeware one, not trialware, and decided to give it a go. I ran it, and it picked up four things needed to be updated. They seemed correct, and the user interface was so nice that it inspired confidence. However, I decided not to update my SATA RAID controller with it, I was not that confident! Three updates to download. My network card driver came to a compresses 170mb. WHAT! That is bigger than my graphics card driver, with all of the AVIO bits and everything. Cancel! The next was 5 mb. Setup epically failed, several times. Give up! Next was sound card. Setup succeeded, but for some reason, I no longer have any sound, and no driver at all! Emergency Dell website visit! Quite glad I did not try the SATA RAID controller! Ok I have a self-built computer...it's a year old just a few days ago.

Win XP SP2 (I think)
Intel Quad-Core 2.4ghz [OCed to 3.2ghz)
RAM 4gb [2.5gb detected]
HDD- Western Digital 160GB and not sure which company could be Maxtor 500GB SATA
8800GT 512mb Video Card

I have an IDE drive on there too with an Apple OSX installed on it.

but

I've been hunting viruses and trojans [due to a backdoor trojan that] for the last few days and elimintated most of them including the backdoor. I was running a 'thourough' scan today while I was at school as well as downloading some things. MY anti-virus program is avast!

Thinking my comps quad-core 3.2ghz could handle the load I turned on Company of Heroes while all this was running....the comp froze...I restarted manually.

The first screen I got is the usual one except under SATA Channel listings it said Floppy disk(s) fail (40)....I don't have a floppy drive.

Then when I press F1 to continue it doesn't load up my main hardrive where Windows is installed. Like it doesn't detect it....it only detects the IDE drive with Apple on it and can start it up.

Don't ask me how I have an Apple OS on my comp the answer might violate the forums rules...but that OS isn't the problem.

Somehow the anti-virus scan mixed with downloading and a video game crash messed things up. Even F8 doesn't work.

A:[SOLVED] Floppy Disk Fail(40)...but I have no floppy drive..no startup

The BIOS was reset to default values. Enter the BIOS at startup and change the boot order priority to the sata hdd first. Locate the screen with the setting for the floppy drive and set that drive to disabled or none. If there's a setting called halt on disk errors change it to "no errors but keyboard" or something like that. Once you're back within windows run chkdsk c: /R to correct errors in the file system caused by the hard restart (answer y when prompted to schedule the scan at next startup and restart the computer).

What's the brand, model and wattage of your power supply ? The freezing wasn't necessarily caused by the antivirus, could have been caused by an underpowered power supply. With an overclocked quad core and a 8800GT you need a quality 700W+ supply. Locate the hardware monitor screen in the BIOS and report your temps, fan speeds and voltages.

I recently built a system with an Intel 955 Motherboard. All is well, except for one curious thing - the floppy drive activity light is always on, from the moment of startup, even before WinXP loads, and the system can't read a floppy. It just keeps requesting that I insert a floppy into my a: drive. It does not sound like the floppy spindle is running, and there are no solenoid-like clicks when I insert the floppy as though the system is trying to read it, just the mechanical "snap" of the eject spring.

Any thoughts? Did I miss something in BIOS? I tried 2 different, brand-new floppy drives and they both act the same way. I've never encountered this before.

Hi All,

Here is the low down. I cant boot into any OS.

I formatted my PC and figured that after installing XP i'd dual boot Ubuntu (9.04).
So all went well, XP and Ubuntu installed as anticipated i could access both OS' for a couple of hours.

When i was in Ubuntu, i was trying to change my primary monitor (22") to have the toolbar instead of my 19".
I went on Ubuntu forums to see what had to be done, and i needed to reboot for the changes to take effect.

After i rebooted, it didnít list any of my 2 hard drives (150gb raptor, 1tb Samsung) or my Asus DVD/CD drive.

My motherboard (Nvidia 680I) stated 7F which only says in the manual as "Check POST error and display them and ask user intervention".
Well, the lovely post error comes up as:

And i have two options, F1 to continue and DEL for BIOS.

Hit F1 to continue now, and the only bootable option is the NVIDIA Boot Agent and comes up with this:

To say I am a bit of a 'noob' would be an understatement. My wife has a HP Pavilion dv9500, running Vista Home Premium. Her CD-drive stopped working and I researched the problem to find a fix. I read in forums I could delete registry files, and I did, but they were the wrong ones. So, her laptop shut down and would not boot past the initial startup screen.

I removed the HDD to see if everything was wiped off the HD, and it was. So, I decided to reinstall Vista, only to find out I did not have the recovery disk. I made a bootable USB drive and tried loading a fresh install of Vista that way, but I keep getting the following message, after hitting "install now":

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

So, I downloaded drivers for both the dv9500 and the dv9628nr, because both are on the bottom sticker. However, none of the drivers would show up as compatible, or show up at all, actually. What am I doing wrong?!

Also, it is worth mentioning that I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium, because I plan on installing it after I get the current problem fixed. The cd-drive lights up and sounds like it is spinning, but it doesn't show up when hitting F9...

This link is supposed to load: usbntmap.sys, usbstor.sys and mspqm.sys files.

I was able to locate the first two. If, by chance anyone knows how to find/download 'mspqm.sys' files then let me know. It's probably better to have it and not use it, than to spend the day searching for it when it's truly needed.

I wouldn't be surprise if others are scoffing at this thread because nowadays, this problem is so antiquated, because no one besides me uses the ME program. Anyway, I thank those who read this post for their interest to help me.

I have a folder that I created on my computer that only held pictures [no program files or anything]. I tried to access it to find it corrupt: "The File or Directory is Corrupt and unreadable." So, I tried to delete the file to find "Cannot delete 'filename', the directory is not empty."
I have tried rebooting the system, it didn't help.
I CAN rename it, but still can't delete it.
I can move it to different locations on my computer, but not to a flashdrive.
If possible, I want to avoid downloading any force delete programs.
Help?

A:Cannot delete empty folder, folder is corrupt- help?

Several possibilities I can think of.

HD errors. Run chkdsk and see if that fixes it.

Could be malware.

Boot to Safe Mode in order to get the "Security" tab under the folder's "Properities" and take ownership of the folder, and "replace owner on sub-containers and objects".

Then UN-click "Inherit from Parent permissions...etc..." under the "Permissions" tab, hit "apply" and exit to Normal XP mode.

You should be able to delete the folder if it is not corrupt.

If all this fails, install Unlocker and use that to delete the folder, on boot if necessary.

Report results.

A:HOw can i correct the device driver problem of my dvd drive?

First, uninstall the drive in Device Manager and reboot.

If that doesn't do it, try this:

Download CDgone, right click on the downloaded file and choose Extract All, then double-click on cdgone.reg Say "Yes" to the merge question and then reboot. See if the drives have returned. You may have to re-install CD burning applications, since they're the ones that tinker with the filter setting in the registry that caused the drives to disappear.

He guys,
im trying to install the new develp build of win8 (x86) on my asus eeepc 1005pe. This is a netbook which doesnt even have a cd/dvd drive.
So anyway, I extracted the iso on a bootable usb flash drive. I boot, and when I click install it just hangs for about 10 minutes and then it gives me this error:

I tried setting the bios from AHCI to IDE. This does not help, I even get a bluescreen of death when I boot up in the current win7 sp1 install. But anyway on google I read a lot about this problem and one of the solutions is to put it on AHCI.. but not for me as it was already on AHCI. Anyway IDE is not workin either.
So im kinda lost.. just recently I installed win7sp1 on this netbook without a problem. I checked the sha1 hashes of the win8 ISO and they are confirmed, so that is not the problem either.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Welcome to EightForums. Did you try this method for making your bootable flash drive.
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...eview-iso.html

You say you have 7 installed you could try the upgrade method if you do not need your 7 install for everyday use. Good luck to you http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...r-preview.html .:ninja:

Hi there guys, im trying to install windows 7 on my friends Dell XPS 625, but I get this error message when I try and install it: a required cd dvd drive device driver is missing.

I have read that its some kind of AHCI problem and that downloading this: AHCI for Windows 7 (AMD RAID/SATA Drivers) and loading it on a USB stick whilst getting the error message will fix my problem?

Also do I have to extract the file in windows first before I put it on the USB? Because I have tried it on a USB and it didnt recognise it

Also the HD has been wiped clean with killdisk so he dosent have an OS right now.

Any help will be great, thanks!

A:A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing

Yes, you have to extract the drivers and copy them to the USB stick. Once you've done that, start the Windows install and then insert the USB stick. When prompted for AHCI/RAID drivers, press the appropriate function key and browse to the flash drive.
