HP Mini -Clean Install -Ethernet & Network Controller Drivers Missing

Q: HP Mini -Clean Install -Ethernet & Network Controller Drivers Missing

I did a windows 7 clean install on my HP Mini 210 4051 nr as part of creating a dual boot with Ubuntu. In Linux the internet works fine, but in Windows 7 it does not. In the device manager I see yellow flags over the ethernet and network controllers. Code 28 (My model does have an ethernet port).

Because the machine cannot connect, I downloaded all the related drivers (everything from the network tab) from the HP website for my model with another computer and then put them all in a folder on the Mini's desktop via USB. When I try to install the drivers through the device manager, and direct it to that folder, it says it finds nothing usable.

Here are the IDs

Ethernet Controller
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8136&SUBSYS_338D103C&REV_05

Network Controller
PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_5390&SUBSYS_163610C&REV_00

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Instead of pointing device manager to those files, have you tried just running the .exe files you downloaded?

That worked for me when I did a clean install on my HP laptop.

Hi guys,

Today, I installed XP SP3 and other drivers, including Realtek AC'97 audio drivers and other drivers. But the device manager shows missing ethernet controller (in fact, it shows a yellow exclamation mark in teh entire other devices section). My motherboard is an older one (DFI NB 32 SC) (Pentium PIV processor). Please suggest the right drivers. I cannot access the Internet without the Ethernet controller.

Thanks,
Anurag

Hello,

My laptop is from Toshiba, model L650 PSK1JA OK3017. Here's Toshiba's driver page for my device:

Support :: Toshiba :: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks, Tablets, Televisions, DVD and Blu-Ray Players, Camcorders, Storage, Accessories, and more

I recently purchased a blank hard drive along with a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I've installed all drivers listed on the page for a 64 bit system but when I try to install the "Intel Wireless LAN Driver (For Intel Model Only)" driver or Proset driver, the driver extraction begins, ends, but when the setup is meant to run, nothing happens. I've redownloaded it and attempted to install it twice to no avail.

Basically, I cannot connect to the internet and Windows cannot detect my network adapter.

If anyone can help me figure out what I need to install to get my network adapters to install, that'd be great. I can't call Toshiba support because their operating hours are when I'm at school.

Occasionally, when I try running the driver I mentioned before and the extraction is complete, when I select "No" as to whether I want to run the file, Windows gives me the error: "Archive Extractor -- Error occured in system module [-135]".

I still have my old, working hard drive, which I replaced because it was slow. Is it possible to grab the network drivers from that and transfer it to my new hard drive? I can use this hard drive to help you guys help me.

After making a clean installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 to a Samsung SSD 850 PRO I booted my laptop. The system started but I could not create an internet connection. I went to Device Manager and it said the drivers for the network adapters were not found. I shut down, reinstalled the old hard drive and restarted. It connected to the Internet. I ran Device Manager and found that the following network adapters listed and working:Intel, 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6250N AGN
Intel Centrino WiMAX 6250
Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2
I went to the Windows/System32 folder and to the Windows/System32/Drivers folder, on the old hard drive and found the drivers that were running the adapters. I copied them to a USB FD. Then I shut down, removed the old hard drive and install the new SSD. I rebooted the system, inserted the USB FD containing the drivers and copied them into Windows/System32/<Drivers> on the new SSD. Then I rebooted the system.
This did not solve the problem. What should I do?

Due to hideous misfortune I had to do a clean install of my personal copy of Windows Vista and remove the stock Windows XP from my netbook.

Many drivers were added my Microsoft during Vista installation but I have no adapter drivers for either wireless or ethernet controllers. Under device manager I have no category for Network Adapters but instead those two controllers are listed under "Other Devices".

Under HP downloads I found the driver for Qualcomm Mobile Broadband Drivers - Gobi1000 when I went through the process of stating my product ID and OS (Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit). I downloaded it onto my pc, saved it to the flash drive I had to use earlier as a bootable drive to install Vista (knew the lack of native cd/dvd drive would eventually haunt me) and then moved the flash drive to the netbook to run install.

After running the setup a blank 'ms-dos' window popped up, stayed blank and then disappeared. There was no confirmation of success of failure in regards to installation of the driver. But under Device Manager they are still listed under other devices and I am unable to do anything with them.

I downloaded, transported and ran the setups for HP help and support as well as the Wireless Assistant. Both run fine on the Mini. The wireless assistant simply states that Windows has no controllers assigned to find connections to maintain.

I was curious as to whether or not there was something I was missing, the driver was the inco... Read more

Hello,
I recently reinstalled windows on my computer due to a series of crashed and the win32 virus, i used my factiry CD.
I use the Windows XP Media Center Edition, my machine is an eMachines W3507
At the begginning, i had the all famous NTLDR is compressed message, so i could't go anywhere from there, so i switched my hard drive from class selective to slave, and only then was i able to reinstall windows.
It was all going well until i tried to go on the internet, i said that my ethernet controller drivers were missing, and so were the drivers for my pci modem, so after 2 weeks of downloading and installing the incorrect drivers for my ethernet controller, i gave up and now i find myself typing this message.
I have lost all hope on the fools at eMachines customer service, because they just tell me to call some guy in India, and he tells me to give him my credit card number, because i never put my coomputer on a waranty.

Does anybody know a website where i can download these drivers, or someone who can help me?
Any help would be gratefully received
thanks in advance
Alex

Here is the official Emachine support page for your model

http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=W Series&model=W3507

You can easily see the downloads for specific hardware parts....

Network
Description Realtek RTL8139/810x Network Driver
File Type Original Driver

But, the driver is only for Vista it says. Very common Ethernet controller, odd that XP can't install it natively.
Try: http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-RTL8139-810x-Family-Fast-Ethernet-NIC/3000-2112_4-63908.html

Here's a Gateway one> http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...x-Network-Driver-21221026-Download-61428.html

Click on "External Mirror 1" it took a couple tries.

Or try this one>>>> http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...-RTL8139C-plus-Serie-5649-Download-17566.html

Or here>>>>>> http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/Realtek_RTL8139810x_Family_Fast_Ethernet_NIC/4-185728-1.html

For some reason the Ethernet controller drivers decided to complain earlier today, for the first time with an irritating yellow exclamation mark sign, I was wondering if the nice people at TechSupport could direct me to the drivers I need, I went into System Information and on to the adapter, it says "WAN Miniport (SSTP)". I've been trying a plethora of things, like installing new chipsets, but instead I was landed with Easytune, which isn't all bad. I guess.

Gigabyte motherboard
AMD- Quad core processor.
Hope that helps.

Hi There

I am having an issue with my computer. I went on vacation about a week ago, shut down my computer, came back, my computer was running(I can only assume family had been using it) and it could not access internet.

I was using a DSL modem with a USB connection.

I moved, am trying to set up at new house with a cable modem.

The problem appears to be missing drivers for ethernet controller and "USB Cable Modem",

I am running Windows XP Pro on a custom built machine

Mother Board is

GIGABYTE GA-P31-S3G LGA 775

I have downloaded/installed chpset drivers from mfg website and they do not fix the problem.

I have tried to install USB Drivers for Cable Modem and it requests that I install USB Drivers first

I am using Other USB Devices so I assume that my USB drivers are intact, and this is simply a networking driver issue.

I have tried uninstalling the hardware from the system and attempting to let windows reinstall it without success

Any suggestions? Could this be virus related?

thanks

Hi sups9,

It is likely that the drivers for the 'Ethernet Card' installed in the computer are not installed. Please Check its status in 'Device Manager': Click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in the 'Search Box' > Tap 'Enter' (Device Manager appears) > Locate and Expand 'Network Adapters' > Check if a 'question mark/exclamation mark' is observed besides any 'network device' (You may also look through the whole list to see if any other device is listed with such a mark, under 'Other Devices')

If yes, right click the 'Device' > Click 'Properties' > Click 'Details' tab > Select 'Hardware ID' from the 'Property Drop Down' > Capture and share 'Hardware ID details'.

Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

I did google up what an ethernet controller is, didn't understand much of it, but gather it has something to do with networks? I only have one pc, and no network. When I open up device manager, there is that big old yellow questionmark beside the Ethernet Controller listing. When I double click it, the properties box tells me that the drivers for the device are not installed. Now I'm wondering do I need to install drivers for this controller if I'm not on a network? Under "Use this device" "Enabled" is selected. Do I need to change anything here? Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate your expertise.

The Network Controller vendor is 10EC (Realtek or Acer) but I can't find a Driver.

Is there a link where I can load the original Driver CD/DVD?

PS: I couldn't save the original data from my old HDD because the HDD failed complete.

A:NB510-109 - Missing driver for Ethernet and Network Controller

Are you searching for LAN driver or WLan driver?
I?m asking because the Network controller could mean WLan or LAn card.

However, the notebook supports the Atheros LAN card and you should install the Atheros LAN driver.
The WLan card is made but Realtek. Its RTL8188CE 802.11bgn Wlan card.

On the Toshiba EU driver page you can find two Atheros LAN drivers for Win 7 32bit:
v 2.0.9.9
v 2.0.11.12

I recommend you to check both.

The Realtek WLan driver could be downloaded from Toshiba WLan portal:

PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_020000

From Network Controller, I'm missing:

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&SUBSYS_3071168C

Please help!

Im pretty sure that my router works , cause i have 2 other laptops , asus and toshiba and they have internet from router. But i missing network controller drivers , i went to device manager and there is yellow triangle on my network controller tab and it says that i missing drivers f?r that. So i suppose i need those drivers to find wireless ? Ive tried to find it on internet but not sucess so far. I downloaded 100 different but nothing solved problem. So i hope you know solution for my problem! NOTE : Asus i reinstalled worked fine before on wirless internet.

Sorry for my english

A:Wireless not working , missing network controller drivers!

Can you cannot to internet wired instead of wireless?
Open device manager. Any exclamation marks/unknown devices there?

Give me the hardware id's of devices without driver. Just doubleclick on them and click on "Details" tab. expand properties->Hardware-id

Hello, I know that its recommened that I use windows 10, but I dont want to use windows 10, I honestly hate it. I want to keep using windows 7. I went back to windows 7, doing a clean install, (deleting all partitions) and now my 15-f272wm notebook cannot get online. I know I need to download the network drivers, etc. I was missing the PCI, the ethernet controller, and a few others, about 6 things. I came across some help online, downloaded and burned some of the drivers onto a cd, and now my f272wm notebook is still not connecting to the internet, (the wifi adapter is not working or being found at all, not sure what I need to download for that to work again) and also even when I hardwire a ethernet cord into my modem to the computer, its showing as there is no connection. In device manager, under network adapters, im using Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller. The only things in device manager that are coming up as problems are under 'other devices' which is the 'Network Controller' and 'Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller)... Do I need to find these last two drivers in order for my notebook to be able to connect to the internet again? When in device manager, selecting update drivers does not work. It keeps saying it cant find anything. I tried to be as descriptive as possible. Thank you for the help, I know I dont NEED windows 10 in order to be able to access the internet on this notebook. Plenty of people run windows 7 on this. Also if you guys need to know what my net... Read more

I've just finished downgrading my aunt's laptop from windows 8 to windows 7 Pro 64bit (she was finding it really difficult to work with windows 8) but it seems that a few of the drivers did not make it through instillation. I've already browsed through the drivers available for this model but the ones I need are not there. I spoke with customer support and she said that it's pretty much trial and error...but I was hoping you or someone else might know the right ones to use.

So this is a problem I noticed while I was browsing my computers issues, I noticed a caution sign near my computer and tried to figure out what it was. Apparently my network controller does not have its drivers installed.

I'm not really sure how that happened, or what it does exactly but I know I want to get it fixed. I read a little elsewhere and saw people post driver instance paths for help on where to go for their drivers. Mine is:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_08B1&SUBSYS_40708086&REV_73\0C8BFDFFFF50E29500

I have windows 7 home premium edition 64 bit

my motherboard is: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. F2A88XN-WIFI (P0)

I'm not sure if other things will help. Thanks for your help in advance!

I have a Toshiba satellite A120 running windows Xp. I had major issues trying to get on the internet so I decided to re-install a fresh copy of XP Professional. I saved the folder that said it had all drivers and programs required to re-install my laptop to a full working condition. After install I found a host of missing drivers. I have managed to re-install all but one and thatrs driving me crazy, I can't seem to get it from Toshiba! Its the Network Controller. Any help would be apreciated,

Thanks,

A:missing network controller after XP re-install

You will have to go into device manager, double click the "Network Controller", click the "Details" tab and tell us the "Device Instance ID" in your next post.
The "Device Instance ID" will look something like VEN_0000&DEV_0000.
You could also search Google for the ID and it should tell you if its the Wired Network card, Wireless Network Card, Modem etc and then download the appropriate driver.

I went to my motherboard manufacturer's website and downloaded all of the drivers on my laptop:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4802#dl

I transferred them to my desktop and installed them on my desktop, but I still don't have internet connection. It keeps telling me to "install a driver for your network adapter" and "windows could not find a driver for your network adapter." I am not sure how to solve this, anyone have the solution?

Are you connecting via Wifi or Ethernet?

Hi,

I got an Acer Aspire V5-572G laptop. It came with Windows 8, which I ended up hating, so I reverted to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit by installing a fresh copy from a CD (well, from USB, but that's irrelevant).

After installing, I cannot connect to wireless nor ethernet. I cannot see any wireless networks. If I connect my ethernet cable, the laptop still thinks there's no connection.

If I open a command line and type ipconfig, I get:

Code:
> ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection:
...redacted...

Tunnel adapter isatap.<some-redacted-serial>:
...redacted...
If I go to Device Manager, I see a bunch of things under "Other devices". These are devices that seem to be missing drivers:
- 3D Video Controller
- Ethernet Controller
- Network Controller
- PCI Device
- PCI Simple Communications Controller
- SM Bus Controller
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

I also see two devices under the Network adapters list:
- Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) -- this is probably what shows up on ipconfig
- Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)

So... seems like I just have to get some drivers! I went to Acer's website and searched for my laptop model. They only have Windows 8 drivers. Unfortunately the Acer driver website is not deep-linkable, but here is a mirror of the drivers it offers:

Have peculiar situation with laptop, hope someone can please advise....

Recently got the little Sony VAIO P, 2nd generation model VPCP11AKJ.

Problems are as follows:

1. This is Japanese model, so, came with Japanese version of Win7HP and recovery OS is in Japanese and I do not know or read Japanese. So, not useful to me.

2. Prior owner changed the original WiFi card to an Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150 card.

3. After doing a fresh Win 7HP instal to get the OS in English (and not have all the Sony bloatware that is part of the Japanese Windows recovery OS install...) I was missing several drivers, including the Network Controller, Ethernet Controller, and Wireless...

4. Downloaded and installed drivers from Sony and Intel (for WiMAX driver file ICS_s32). Now, only missing driver is the Network Controller.

The Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150 card is working WiMAX-wise and recognizes several WiMAX networks. However, it is not picking up on WiFi networks, which is what I need. I'm wondering whether the missing Network Controller driver is impacting this.

I have tried installing an Intel Wireless driver (filename: Wireless_15.8.0_Ds32) when I run it, it just shows a small 1" square window with a WiFi like icon in it that shows a circular segmented progress like feature around the icon. After a minute or so, it disappears from display, with no text message, so, don't know it installs anything or not. Regardless, the Network Controller is still missing.

How were you able to install all rounds of Important and Optional Updates if you had no Ethernet or Wireless connection?

Did you plug in the ethernet cable during install which delivers that driver about 70% of the time (wireless about 50%)? If not plug it in now and enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) to see if it loads from the driver Store or Windows Update.

Then if you've actually run all rounds of Updates to completion it will normally deliver the Wifi driver.

You can trace the driver using Hardware Identification.

Hi,

Prior to reformatting, I scanned the laptop with several tools and it picked up some malwares, most of them were adwares that Superantispyware detected. Thus, I performed a low level format using diskpart command "clean all" with a system recovery cd provided by a manufacturer from another laptop brand and as soon as Windows 7 was finished installing, I noticed both the wireless and LAN network drivers were already preinstalled. Is this normal or am I still infected? I've never had drivers preinstalled after performing a low level format until now.

I also read that the bios or other parts could be infected but the probability of that happening is very slim.

Please help.

Assuming you are using the ethernet port on the motherboard (not a separate card) you need to get the manufacturer and model number from the mb itself and go to their site to get the drivers for that and the SM bus controller. You don't mention the brand/model of the mb in your post - Micro ATX is a size specification, not mfr.

I have a problem with Ethernet Control Drivers on a friend's computer. He's brought his computer over and we connected it to my router as normal, but he gets no Internet Connection at all, while mine is working as normal.

Opened up the Device Manager to find that Ethernet Control Driver was marked with a yellow question mark and moved to Other Devices.

On previous occasions we had no problems, but at that time he was using Windows Vista and has since switched back to XP Professional. He uses a Wireless USB connection at home so didn't notice a problem until now.

My question is this: How do identify exactly which Ethernet drivers he needs and where can I download them?

Any help would be much appreciated! :]

I recently downgraded my old laptop (an acer aspire 5715z) from vista to xp. After installing xp I found that a lot of the drivers needed updating, so I bought 'hardware helper' which managed to find and update 28 of the drivers.
However, even as it said it downloaded and installed the drivers for an 'Atheros AR5008 Wireless Network Adapter' the wireless internet still doesn't work and on the device manager it still has 2 ethernet controllers with exclaimation marks on them. (the other ethernet controller i believe is a 'Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx' as it says on the hardware helper thing - same issue with that but i'm more concerned about the wireless ability).
I have tried searching to find other drivers for the atheros ar5008 but even then they install fine it still doesn't work.

Please help

A:Solved: Ethernet controller drivers

Hiya AceOfBass.

This isn`t going to be what you want to hear but I had a problem with an Atheros Wi-Fi chip recently and after installing, uninstalling, reinstalling and generally messing about with things, the only way to get a wireless connection was to disable the Atheros chip in Device Manager and use a stand-alone USB Wi-Fi dongle from Maplins.

As far as I can make out, the Atheros chip doesn`t have a good reputation and it can be a real headache to get it working if it decides to stop playing which is why the independant USB dongle came into use.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 and when I start my computer, it prompts me to install the software for the Ethernet Controller. I don't have the CD that came with the laptop anymore. I was wondering if anyone could help me find a driver or find the software I need online so that I can install the ethernet controller? Thank you!!

A:Missing Ethernet Controller

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager any device with a yellow mark needs a driver installed. On an internet computer download the Broadcom Ethernet Controller and any other drivers you need from the Dell site, Save it to a USB flash drive and transfer it over to the non internet computer.

A:Ethernet Controller Missing

I'd suggest downloading/installing the drivers for the Intel NIC (from the HP drivers site).

You don't tell us what is installed on this system...so I don't think you have a gigabit NIC. From what I see, that would be a PCI-e connection for that, while I suspect that you just have the normal onboard ethernet connection.

Unless you know for sure that you have a gigabit ethernet connection, you should not assume it where options are available.

I have an Acer 603G "upgraded" to Win 7 Pro thanks to this forum.
My current issue involves my ethernet controller. It is missing, when I go to Device Manager (DM) the statement where the ethernet controller once existed now reads "Unknown Device". This started when I unsubscribed from software I discontinued. At first the ethernet controller was disabled, I was able to re-enable it from DM. More recently it disappeared from DM and I was able to re load the BIOS and it would work as of two days ago that doesn't help. The BIOS is P11._B2_A. I have downloaded new BIOS onto a pen drive and this still does not correct bring it back.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Experts,

My computer (Dell Dimension 8300 running Windows XP Home Edition) is missing these things in the device manager.

Ethernet Controller

Multimedia Audio Controller

SM Bus Controller

Video Controller

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

All of these come up with yellow question marks next to them.

I have a dell resource cd which came with my computer. The cd is labeled drivers, yet I can not seem to find what I'm looking for on this cd.

What I REALLY want. Is to install this ethernet controller, so that my computer can recognize my modem( hooked up to my computer via ethernet cable), so I can get online and just update all of my drivers and take care of this mess.

I can't find anywhere on the cd that has anything to do with ethernet controllers though.

There is one thing called a Broadcom Driver on dells website, which has to do with NETXTREME GIGABIT ETHERNET. I've also found this on the driver cd, and installed it, but the ethernet controller still has the question mark after restarting the computer. Its the only thing on the cd that has the word ethernet in it.

Could someone help me find an ethernet controller online that I can download to my laptop, copy to an external hard drive, and install on my desktop computer so I can reinstall my yahoo sbc dsl modem and get online.

Could you also tell me how to install it if I have to do it manually without a wizard to guide me.

Thank you very much for your time. I'm in a real bind ... Read more

If you're DSL you should have a USB connection port. Unplug the Ethernet cable and try getting online with USB. You should be able to download the drivers you need.

Someone reinstalled Windows XP on my son's computer, and now it is not working properly, so I am trying to help get it fixed. I have limited experience with this sort of thing. The specs on the computer are as follows:
Acer Aspire 5050-3371
AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MK-36 (2.0 Ghz 512 KB L2 cache)

It will not connect to the internet, and when you check the Device Manager, it gives a yellow question mark under "Other devices". The other devices that have question marks are:
Ethernet Controller
PCI Device
PCI Flash Memory (3 times)
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
If you look under properties for the Ethernet Controller, there is no information. It says Manufacture Unknown, OCI Bus2, device 0, function 0.

Under the Local Area Connection Status it says limited or no connectivity. However, in Properties it says that it is a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. It says the device is working properly.

Can you tell me what I need to do to get this computer fixed? It has many problems, but getting it to work on the internet would be the first problem to solve.

I've tried shutting it down and rebooting, and that doesn't help. I've tried to renew/repair the internet connection, and that hasn't worked either. I think the ethernet is the key, but I'm in the dark here.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello guys, I have recently reinstalled my OS and my ethernet controller driver is not installed. I can not connect to the internet to find an update to the install it, and likewise, I do not know what driver it is I need to install. So, I probably have the driver that you need. What does Device Manager show for problem devices?

the mother board is Intel 915 G ...

Now the problem is that i was merging partitions of my hard drive.. so i lost the driver files, installed in partition D:\ ..
and the controller displayed the code 39 error :" the device cannot start because its drivers are missing or corrupt"

now when i tired to reinstall the drivers.. the device would not recognise them..
upon checking the Device manager after install , the code 39 error was still there..
so i cant quite decide what to do..

if u think there are any remains of the deleted files remaining , please do suggest a solution
i tried the Dell Website and even the Broadcom website for driver downloads.. but the situation remains the same .. please help!

OK Folks, I'm in desperate need of help finding a ethernet controller driver. I recently reinstalled XP Home SP3. I have that big yellow question mark in Device Manager and no internet via the ethernet port. I've uninstalled the drivers and rebooted but to no avail.

I have an older Compaq 6010US with a Nvidia nForce 220 (DDR) crush (11) chipset.

I managed to get the video and sound drivers from the Nvidia site with their automatic update scan but I can't find anything about this chipset or ethernet controller drivers from them. I've Googled and Googled but can't find anything even remotely close enough to download. I can see that this is very common after a reload but can't find anything that applies to my situation.

Right now I'm using a wireless setup as a temporary fix.

I would be very grateful for any good leads in the right direction

Now i have card 2 fixed in my motherboard but i dont have its drivers and i dont know its make so i cant find for drivers online. I cannot use the option "Let Windows search online for the best drivers" because i cant go online cuz card 1 is spoilt! I tried installing Realtek drivers (card 1 was realtek) and Intex drivers (im from asia, intex is popular here) but the card still isnt getting detected. Is there any "general" ethernet controller driver that works for all? can i somehow make card 2 work?

Welcome to the Seven Forums, threein.

If you want fast and meaningful help on this Forum then please fill your System Specs in detail.

Obviously you have downloaded the wrong drivers, if at all. To be able to help one must first have a look at your detailed System Specs. Maybe you are unable to load them. In that case please note them down and send them as text in this thread. You can fill them up for the future later, when you are able to connect to the Net.

Ok, I have a problem that is going to cause me to go insane... Ok my friend apparently formatted his laptop with the wrong disc and now several things aren't working due to the wrong drivers being installed. Its a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5900, I have already been to their main site and looked at all the drivers they have posted for it. There is no Ethernet Controller!!! Thus meaning I cannot connect to the internet, otherwise I would just use a program to find all the drivers for me and that be that. I ran a scan with a program that I found that does not require a net connection to work and it showed that the driver is Realtek GBE_FE Ethernet PCI Nic. The computer runs XP, so I found the drivers relatively easy and then installed them... and they were not the ones for it because its still saying the Ethernet is not installed on the Device Manager. I used Driver Genius to find out what the driver was, Driver Detective requires a net connection to work... so lame... I've been sitting here for about 2 hours and its driving me crazy. Please if anyone can help me here I would be MOST appreciative. Thanks

Hi guys,

I have a slight problem with one of the PC's..

I reinstalled Windows and everything seems okay except for one problem..

It won't connect to my router through Ethernet because, apprently I haven't installed my Ehternet Controller drivers.

There is a yellow question mark next to my Ethernet Controller in Device Manager.

I'm not exactly sure how I find out what Ethernet Controller I use to go and download the drivers, so I looked under 'Network Adapters' also in Device Manager and it listed is as 'RealTek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC'.

I downloaded these drivers from RealTek and installed them on the troubled computer but to no avail..

Still can't access the Web and the Ehternet Controller aspect in the Device Manager still has the yellow question mark next to it.

Can anyone help shed any light?

Thanks!

PS. This is a custom computer I bought some time ago.

Hello, I am trying to help my parents to fix their computer. Their internet connection stopped working. They have Windows XP Professional. I tried several things to fix the problem to no avail. Finally I checked the device manager and found that the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller was missing a driver. I have downloaded several drivers and tried to install them, but the process never works. I think in the process the controller was deleted, but after running a plug and play search, the controller was found, but now it says there is no software available. On a related note, in the same area it says there is a serial bus controller missing. I know this is an usb, but not sure if it is important or even related. They are also having some issues it seems with the modem. The send light doesn't come on and internet access is sporadic. It has been a very frustrating factor in trying to find a solution to this problem. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thank you.

This system was a contract model until recently. I put the established image onto the system but it was missing the Ethernet Controller driver. As the system was newer then the image I decided to image it from scratch with the latest drivers. Still the Ethernet Controller is missing. The system is running WXP Prof SP2.
The LAN card is working fine. I've mapped drives and run Windows Update. I installed the Modem driver from HP but the modem is not appearing in the Device Manager. I presume the missing driver refers to the modem.
I have uninstalled the device, but the driver was not picked up on reboot. I have pointed it at the inf files but it doesn't liked them. I have installed older drivers but it makes no difference. I reinstalled the chipset but it didn't change a thing.
I am at my wits end. I have had trouble with every single model of HP we have ever had and I hate having anything to do with them. But I have to fix it. Any advise would be very much appreciated.

A:Ethernet Controller Missing Please Help - Compaq

Gor,

After delving into several areas of the HP website (plus some other very reliable sources like computersurgeons.com,) I basically concluded that your controller is NOT Win7-compatible.

Basically, when a driver (ethernet for example) is in the form of a text document (.inf, .sys, etc.,) typically you can count 10 lines down from the top (after opening it) and changing the coding. (example: realtek = value of 8187 is now 8197 for vista compatibility. However, the specific driver you need only comes in a Windows Installer-based module. It's considered firmware; bottom-line, it's impossibe from a consumer standpoint to force "forwards-compatibility" before they're ready to provide it.

In one specific area of HP.com, they actually (laughably) said to use Windows/MicrosoftUpdate.

It's definately recommended that, since you went through the trouble to reformat, that you get a second opinion, but I will definitely put my money on the fact that this specific controller is designed for an XP platfom. (Also, FYI, Vista compatibility just became available recently...)

Your last option could be to contact tech support directly or find a way to get ahold of them withOUT paying their outrageous service fees. Here's one place to start: HP Support & Drivers

Also, a secondary option would be to download HP's proprietary diagnostics utility for your hardware. Google (with quotes) "HP Hardware Diagnostic Tool"; It should, at worst, run as an Active... Read more

I just got high speed internet at work and when i tried to hook up to the main computer I can't get it to work. i know the DSL is working as I got the wireless to work and hardwired to a laptop and it works.

The ethernet controller is missing. i don't know why. it might be i reformatted the computer a while ago and as i was on dial up I did not miss it. but i don't recall reformatting.

i went to the Gateway site and see no drivers available there for the computer. as the ethernet is built into the motherboard i guess i have to go to Intel to get that. but i have no clue exactly what i am looking for there and don't want to download the wrong thing. i looked but there was nothing obvious.

it is the 915 series

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

The ethernet controller on my PC (a HP) was accidentally uninstalled and now I can't access the internet on my PC... From memory I think the controller was called a "Realtek Ethernet Controller".

I have tried downloading a realtek driver listed as a h1r106ww on my laptop and transferred it to the PC via a flash drive to try and fix this, but when I click to install it, it tries and of course fails, to access the internet to do the install.

Help, how can I install an ethernet controller on my PC when the PC doesn't have access the internet?

TIA,
John

My Acer Aspire (previously Windows 7 Home Premium) was a sluggish computer, was too many useless programs I have installed. I wanted to start all over and reinstall Windows 7 using a disc. I did a Windows 7 professional custom installation, and my Acer was like brand new, but the problem is, I cannot connect to the internet using wi-fi or ethernet. I checked Device Manager and I saw under the Other Devices tabs that Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, and PCI Simple Communications Controller have the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. The status for the devices say The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) and everytime I try to install driver the device driver software was not successfully installed. Any ideas to fix this without opening out my laptop? (very risky)

I cannot connect to the internet via an ethernet cord. I suspect it is because my HP Pavilion dv9260nr Notebook PC (Windows Vista 64-bit) is missing its Ethernet Controller Driver, or so says the Device Manager. I have tried different ethernet cords and different ethernet wall jacks. When I plug an ethernet cord into the slot on my laptop, it lights up, but no wired internet connection shows up in the Network and Sharing Center. My computer can connect to the internet wirelessly, as it is doing now at Starbucks. These are the Ethernet Controller Driver's hardware ID's, according to the Device Manager:

PCI\VEN_2A8E&DEV_109A&SUBSYS_30BB103C&REV_00
PCI\VEN_2A8E&DEV_109A&SUBSYS_30BB103C
PCI\VEN_2A8E&DEV_109A&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_2A8E&DEV_109A&CC_0200

I have been to HP's website and found the page specific to my model:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...link=ot_we/prodlink/en_us/3340264/loc:0&cc=us

However, under the drivers section, I couldn't find anything that looked like an ethernet controller driver. I have tried having the Device Manager search automatically for the driver, no dice. I don't have my original system install disk, I left it back in America (big mistake). The device manager says that it's provider and manufacturer are "unknown." I don't want to keep coming back to Starbucks, the coffee in Chinese Starbucks is more expensive for some reason.

I have no idea what to do at thi... Read more

Not sure if this should be here or under Windows XP

We lost power on Saturday night and on Sunday I noticed that our old Acer Desktop computer that is our 'always on' machine could not connect to the internet. All of the other devices in the house were ok (ipads, phones, laptops). We still use this machine, its on the desk in the den, even though it is old and slow because it is always on and ready to use.
This machine is WIRED to the router.
I rebooted the machine, no change.
Went to Device Manager and noticed under Other Devices that the Ethernet Controlled entry had a big yellow question mark.

Device Status - This device is not configured correctly(code 1), reinstall driver.
Tried to reinstall driver, could not be found.
So the driver file(s) are either missing or damaged

Machine Info
Acer AcerPower FH
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
Intel 946GZ Express Chioset Family

PCI VEN 11AB DEV 4363

How do I reinstall the driver? I poked around and found some drivers on my machine, but don't remember where they were. I remember trying to use one and the machine was able to connect to the router but not the internet.

I searched online (Acer site) and found what I thought were some drivers and utilities. Downloaded them to another machine and transferred them via a flash drive but none worked.

I need some help.
Where can I find the driver(s).
How do I install them, where do I install them to?
What do driver files look like?
I am very good with PC's and tech, bu... Read more
