Optional gaming keyboard update

Q: Optional gaming keyboard update

Hi, I've just had a new optional update appear in Windows update that I can't find any information about, it's a keyboard driver from an LXD company, my keyboard is made by Zalman so I thought I just wanted to ask what this update actually does before I install it.

A: Optional gaming keyboard update

I've had one from Microsoft for my Sidewinder X4 sitting there for ages but I haven't installed it. If there's no performance issue with your keyboard I'd just leave it, or set a Restore Point prior to installing if you do feel inclined to install it.

A year ago, I tried Windows 10 on my SONY Laptop, but had to uninstall it, and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thereafter, I was notified to install an optional update for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. Ever since then, I go through days of getting a green video window for Facebook and sometimes youtube videos (but 90% with Facebook videos).
Contacted Facebook but they are useless. Downloaded Flash player many different times, but no luck. Sometimes I can disable hardware acceleration and or check it, however, other times I can not see if hardware acceleration is enabled for HTML5 videos. I have

The update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts.
I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there.
I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

A:Optional update in windows update is giving me a blue screen.

It looks as though the update changed something in nvlddmkm.sys, and for some reason, it wasn't changed back when I did the system restore. I have no idea how to go about fixing it.

Hi, its been now several months that I've been running Windows 10 and several times I found myself not being able to type @ (which is in most of my passwords) and will have to google it and copy/paste it in. Usually this problem is followed by all other symbol key(including number ones) being completly mixed up (not the standard letter tho). After a re-boot the problem dissappears. I have noticed today that the problem appeared once again after I had my PC accidentally run out of battery and hibernate. WHen booted, the keys were mixed again. Thsi is not specific to hibernation since also on anotehr computer it happens quite often just from regualr use. I fugure it might be somethign with the drivers but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Ps. The keyboard's language is set to the hardware language as it works just fine most of the time.

A:Keyboard will mix up keys including Fn optional ones

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Sounds like a driver issue. Try reinstalling the keyboard driver.

Can you get the @ symbol to work with a USB keyboard?

do i have to install this update?

A:optional update

Hello SpeedDial,

No, you do not have to. It's just to let you know that there is a new optional driver version update. If you do not want to install it, then you can hide it to not see it anymore in Windows Update. However, you might give it a try since it is a new version that may help improve your graphic card's performance. If not, you can always rollback to the previous driver version.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Could someone shed some light on this ?

A:Optional Update - not sure what it is ?

This is an update to your NVidia graphics card drivers, etc. It is optional because it is not necessarily required.

I personally always go to the manufacturer's (NVidia in this case) support site and get the latest drivers from there if I feel I need to update them.

There have been a lot of problems reported the last few months where Windows Update is very slow and takes a long time.
I just checked my W7 Updates and a new update KB3102810 was published yesterday (2015-11-03)
This update might help fix this, but it also includes a fix for updating to Win 10.

Read more here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810

I also get the "same update" offered for W8.1 as KB3102812 described here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102812

A:New optional update

I promptly hid KB3102810 and another optional one when they came through recently; I still have two important ones from yesterday pending (KB2758857 and KB3067904); I'm waiting to see if anyone reports problems or not. I haven't had any trouble with windows updates taking too long to do its thing and I don't need a fix for updating to Win 10 because that simply isn't going to happen. In fact, I suspect the ones who have been having trouble with updates also have the Win 10 nagware, etc. installed, which I do not.

Advanced micro devices,inc-Graphics adapter wddm1.2-amd Radeon HD 6310 Graphics is this update important? I found it on my update list so I was just wondering if its okay to update also, what does this update do?

A:Optional Update

It is clearly an 'update' for the device driver for your graphics adapter, but I do not know what in particular that update fixes or improves about it.

Device drivers are small pieces of software that are the link between Windows and the various pieces of hardware on the computer. If Windows or wants to draw something on the screen, it gets the device driver for your graphics adapter to do it.. Device drivers are specific to the exact model of hardware that they are designed for, and sometimes to that hardware being used on a particular model of computer.

I am a bit wary about accepting device driver updates from Microsoft updates, but do not ignore them. In particular, I would think carefully about this one, and ensure that the update matches the driver already installed on your system. My reasoning being that device drivers can be issued through four different channels (each subtly different).

The Manufacturer of your computer. If you have let's say a "Bloggs model X1000" laptop - The most appropriate driver updates might well come from "Bloggs" themselves... They will know how best to use that model of graphics adapter in their system, and might have modified the drivers (or include specific support software) that they supply to best match their system.

I opened Windows Update and only listed was an optional update. I didn't update at that time and when I went back to update I could not find the optional update. Ihave Windows 7 Home premium 64 Bit. I looked for updates again but it said everything was up to date. How can I find that update.. I'm not really good with computers any help will be greatly appreciated. I have one other question if you don't mind.

I have to Unzip a ZIP-file with WinZip and save the content to my hard
drive. Then use the unzipped EXE-file to run a program. This sound simple enough, I guess, if you know what you are doing. Where can I get this WinZip program that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

One other question. A program that I want to install supports Windows 7 64 bit in 32-bit emulation mode. What does that mean and how do I run this program.

Thanks again for all your help and cooperation. Have a good evening.

A:Optional Update

Welcome rottikid,

For the update it was probably for MSE if that's your Anti-Virus, You could just look at Installed updates and see if it is there.

As for WinZip you can get it here WinZip - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com There might be something else you can use too, someone else might know more about that.

Usually people will download a zipped file to their desktop or downloads area by clicking save instead of run when prompted. (see Below)

And for the 32 bit emulation I don't know the technical answer but 64 bit windows has 2 sets of programs files, Program Files (64bit) and Program Filesx86 (32bit).

Hope that helps you out some.

First question is, what August update? AMD hasn't released one in August yet and the current driver from them is the July Catalyst 11.7,

Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

of which I haven't seen any reports of BSOD's occurring from. Didn't happen to get it through Windows Update did you? If so do yourself and your computer a favor and the next time you see one offered, set it to hidden and forget about it. For video card updates do not get them through Windows Update and only ever get them directly from the card manufacturer's (AMD or Nvidia specifically, not the respective card makers as all they will have is what AMD and Nvidia have).

There was an optional Windows Update today to remove GWX.

Someone mentioned online months ago that adding 'old' to the GWX folder stopped it from popping up messages, which is what I did and it seemed to work.

I have now installed the optional update to remove all trace of GWX, restarted, but the GWX folder is still there.

I'm thinking that because it had 'old' at the end of it, it was not removed?

I tried deleting the GWX folder, but I was denied permission to do so.

If you had the Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available setting checked.

If you use Windows Live, Silverlight is necessary for those features, When you upgraded to Windows 7 over Vista, you should have backed up your files and deleted the Vista partition on the hard drive at the start of the Windows 7 install

This is getting ridiculous !!!

From July 12th to today 29th, I had installed a total of 33 optional updates entirely about MSE. ( I use manual update method )

I am think of going back to Avast free edition !!! This MSE optional Update is B.S.

A:MSE optional update - just ranting. It's not a problem.

They average 2-3 a day so you may have even missed some.

I have mine set to run a quick scan everyday with "Check for ther latest virus and spyware definitions before running a scheduled scan" selected. So it updates automatically every day, but only once a day when the scan runs. So I suppose I'm missing at least one update each day but they are cumulative and for me it works fine.

I could probably get at least one additional update by adjusting the time I run the quick scan but I know that the way MSE auto updates is a bit odd. When I first was using it I let it install it's own updates without running a scan and it was kind of strange how it did it so I went with to quick scan everyday option. Works for me.

This update is now appearing as optional update available on my pc's. Any problems with this? I am running scared about installing "optional" updates since the last two month's fiascos. KB2975719 is correct number - sorry for mispost originally . For now, I have just "hidden" this update - afraid to try to install it.....lol. Microsoft has gone completely berserk with Windows Updates, it seems.

August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 Note it says This update is released on September 2, 2014.

A:KB2575719 Appearing as Optional Update Sept 2

I guess it's a fix for the original version from last month's bug. That shows up today as an update for me also, even though I still have that KB installed. I wonder if the original (buggy?) version needs to be uninstalled first?

This was an option update that i accidently installed without knowing what it was,

Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

It has messed up my resolution and i can no longer fit it to how i want, there are only 2 different screen resolutions i can use. Also, i cannot run applications such as YouCam that came with my Laptop + windows 7 beause i "do not have the VGA software" or something :/

I go to device manager and uninstall this, but everytime i turn on my laptop again, the screen resolution is still messed up and then the driver will install itself again.

I find this really annoying how i cant have my screen resolution back

I really hope someone can help

THanks in advance

A:A Windows optional update has messed up my screen, help

If you're "un-installing" the driver, you could try "rolling back" the driver.

Maybe this will give you the result you need.

You may want to move to the newer driver eventually, so hopefully you can find a more permanent solution.

After you roll it back, hide it from WU

So, okay, an optional update showed up this morning to remove some broken Lenovo software: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3107998

But this machine I'm typing at is an ancient-ASUS-motherboard machine, not a Lenovo.

Now, in this house there IS a Lenovo laptop (that has yet to be updated, probably, since it's early morning and my daughter carried it into her room so I can't yet get to it...).

Did Microsoft distribute this "Lenovo Fix" optional update to regular nonLenovo PC users?

Or did Microsoft get their database(s) confused and think this aAm machine is a Lenovo machine?

Or what?

A:Optional update kb3107998 for certain Lenovo computers

Got a Dell here, yet was served the same recommended update.

I installed Win7 using a manufacturer disk on top of Vista (not clean install).

After that, I had about 200 important and 80 optional updates to install.

I installed about half of the important and none of the optional.

Now I am installing newer updates and checking which to stay away to prevent Win10. I looked and couldn't find any of the 10 updates in the important update list. I did, however, find some in the optional updates list.

I have been reading a lot how MS installs these win10 updates automatically, but in my case, they are listed as optional. I wonder why, is it because MS changed their policy or because my laptop is pretty old and w10 is not recommended?

Anyways, here is the list of important updates still left to install. Could you more experienced members please take a look and tell me if I should avoid any of these?

Thank you.

A:Windows 10 GWX update KB3035583 listed as optional

None of those are on my list of "to avoid", but that doesn't mean you need them all or that you won't end up in Windows Update hell for whatever reason.

Due to a problem with BITS I cannot currently download updates using Windows Update. I can download them manually and install them from the Microsoft website. Unfortunately I can only find the required updates but not any of the optional ones. Does anyone know where I can find these? Even if I search for the update number the search comes back empty. Also, if you would like to help with the BITS problem please look at my profile to find the other thread.

OK I am a moderate security guy trying to learn more from the REAL Security PROs. I was looking for server 2012 Installing and Configuring study material FOR FREE of course and got in a little to deep. I use Zone alarm firewall Free version and Malwarebytes religiously. As well as MSE as my regular day to day antivirus. Now normally I would not dig as deep as I did this time to get so ROOTKIT infected.
Recently I ran GMER and found a lot of RED in the registry; Files and other important places so I figured I need to reimage my machine......! I also ran Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it came back clean?? I will attach the Kaspersky log below... Now I also use CMS Product Ultimate BounceBack version 11.4.0.29, I believe so I can make all this go away with a backup reimage. But I am pursuing my Server 2012 MCSA and eventually want to become Security focused. So I have all the Rootkit tools and have played with them in the past but in my experience it has always been best to completely reinstall the OS version, Whatever the OS may be at the time, and move forward because otherwise you are never going to completely clean the machine. Not to mention, the time saved by doing this speaks for itself. All that being said I would still like to get a better understanding of this from a Security standpoint..... Noticed my laptop was running a bit slow tonight so did a Malwarebytes scan - it found the aforementioned threats.

Yes, that's why it's there. HijackThis has not been seriously updated in some time and so is not considered worth the hard drive space, although I suppose that it acts as cheap advertising for Trend Micro.

Apparently I already have a version of this on one of my computers because the optional update failed to update and said there was already a version on the computer. I am running Windows 7 upgrade over Vista on this particular machine.

I am having all kinds of permissions problems with this machine and am very disgusted with Microsoft right now and really want as little of their crap software on my machines as possible. Is Windows Live Essentials worth keeping? I don't use it but maybe that is because I don't know what to use it for.

Let me begin by saying that I don't know much about computers.
About a week ago I was having issues with my pc. I finally had the geek squad tech online people fix it. I think that one thing they did was to back up pc. I'm throwing this out there in case someone thinks this may have something to do with my issue.
When Windows 10 first came out I reserved it. I may install it sometime but not right now. I have the Windows icon on desktop and when I click on it and go in it says "theres nothing you need to do right now. You'll get a notification on your pc when windows 10 is ready to install." Also in there it says "Your upgrade is reserved"
I'm wondering why does this optional update (Update to Windows 10 Home) keep trying to install each time I start my pc?
Yesterday it downloaded to the point where a contract looking thing came up and wanted me to either accept or decline something. I did not read the whole thing or click either option. I finally got the download stopped and that was that.
I do not know what to do. If this downloads and install will I have windows 10?
Is it possible that if there was a backup done maybe the powers that be doesn't realize that I already have it reserved?
One more thing. Theres a Windows Defender important update that keeps failing. When I try to manually download it and install it the windows 10 update automatically starts to download. I also have important updates set to automatically download.

I installed this optional Windows Update (a huge mistake I now realize) labled "nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Graphics Adapter WDDM2.0 - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080", and after restarting the computer, I suddenly lost the aero effects to my computer.

The first thing that I noticed when I started up the computer again was that it had suddenly changed the screen resolution to 800x600 and rearranged my desktop icons, but I was able to put it back to its proper resolution. When I noticed the transparency gone from the explorer bar, I right-clicked on the screen and selected "Personalize" to fix it, only to notice at the bottom the message "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other Aero effects".

After opening up the troubleshoot to find the problem, there's a message saying:

"Update the drive for your video card.

The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDD-compatible driver".

How do I fix, please?

Hello everyone,

I just came to realize the Windows Update window does not show the usual thirty-something available optional updates (last time I checked it was all the language packs and an ATI driver update), only 1 available important update.

Moreover, if I try to select the updates I want to install, the "Optional" tab is completely missing from that window. I haven't hidden any of those updates, nor are they listed as hidden under the appropriate menu.

Have any of you experienced something like this? What should I try to get them back?

Thanks.

PS: I've attached a screenshot of the situation.

PPS: It's been a month or so since I last checked for updates, so I don't exactly know what might've happened that got those updates disabled.

A:Windows Update optional updates (incl. language packs) disappeared

Click on the "View Update history" in the left panel, you might already have installed them.

Also, have you installed the SP1?

this is a work computer, so I'll only be around 10a-5:30p EST.  "Computer guy" came about 6 weeks ago, ran Combofix, left.  After that, I  noticed that Conduit hijaked the browsers.  Uninstalled what toolbars I could find, changed settings in IE and Chrome, seemed to be gone. Still no symptoms.  Last week I saw the unsupported or unfound file image in the shortcuts next to the start menu, ran MBAM again, found this, deleted. ran other scans in safe mode w/networking, seemed clean.  Ran a scan just because today, no symptoms, 45 objects found.  Deleted again.  ran TDSS, found a partition. Don't know enough to comfortably delete.  Here's the DDS log.  I hope you can help quickly. My boss wants me to call the "computer guy" again, who I have no faith in, because every time we pay him to "fix it" I end up having to come here and get help because he doesn't actually fix anything, but still cashes the checks.
edit:1:46pm EST  Avira just popped up with detections of TR/Trash.Gen and TR/Drop.Softomat.AN in the System Volume Information folder, as both .exe and .dll under real time protection.

I just successfully upgraded my mom's XP machine to Win 8.1 cause of Microsoft's end-of-support for the old OS. It took the best part of a day backing up her files, installing and activating and then setting up new software on the new OS. It's not something I'd want to do again in a hurry and I'm a little concerned about this new update which I've just heard about. All this business of upgrading and updating is time consuming and stressful to me! I've set her updates to the recommended automatic setting, so what I want to know is: Will the update hijack her machine and install itself without warning once it becomes available or will it be an optional one that we can initiate ourselves? I'd rather it'd be the latter to be honest. She works from her home on her PC so any surprise down time while the patch installs is not desirable. The original 8 to 8.1 update on my own PC , took ages with several reboots so I'm kind of apprehensive about this new one.

A:Will 8.1 update 1 be an optional update?

Hello Nalydyenlo,

No worries. The "Windows 8.1 Update" will just be a Windows Update. You're not going to need to reinstall Windows.

is it a good idea to install the 26 "update for Windows 7" "kbxxxxxxx" updates that sit in the 'optional updates' section of my Windows Update notification bar. are they needed for anything? do they make my computer work better? what are they there for?

A:"Update for Windows 7" (in optional updates section)

Some optional updates are useful and should be installed, some like Bing related items, Silverlight aren't, since you don't mention the KB numbers it's really hard to answer that.

Post a screenshot of them.

Hello,

1) Does optional windows update KB3135445 contain any software for promoting Windows 10, or is it restricted to just making improvements to Windows Update?

2) I understand that in Windows 10 there are reduced option settings for Windows Update, so please would you also confirm that update KB3135445 will make no changes to the options currently available in the Settings options for Windows Update in
Windows 7.

Please do NOT refer me to the Microsoft More Information bulletin for update KB3135445, as I have already read it, as it does not provide the information / confirmation I am seeking in the questions I have put here.

(By the way, the aggressive adware-style approach by Microsoft to promote Windows 10 as an upgrade, in my opinion, is causing its customers to question the trust they have previously placed in Microsoft updates.)

I look forward to receiving answers to the two (numbered) questions I have put above.

Regards,

Robert339

Heyy, welcome to Vista Forums!
I would have a look at Razer and Logitech, they sell some nice gear, and the designs look amazing.
For gaming, I've just got a Logitech wireless Playstation2 controller plugged into an adapter to USB, does me perfect.

Hope this helps,

Hello, If you've haven't heard of the Merc Gaming Keyboard ill save your time and suggest you leave.

Now lets begin
When i downlaoded the gaming keyboard to my Computer, this menu pops up. It tells me which game to select so the keyboard can function for it. I click Counter-Strike Source. After i've saved it, i went to play Counter-strike source. Unfortunately the keyboards didn't work. So now, i went back to my desktop and i clicked the button on the keyboard to pop up the menu. Nada, nothing, the button just opened windows media player. Next i click the z-board button and Yes, it pops up. But its completely blank. There are no categorys of games to pick from nor is there a picture of the keyboard in the middle. If you could help, please reply
Thanks, Richard.

Does anyone have this or has seen it? Amazon.com: Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS CHALLENGER Pro Gaming Keyboard Fan Cooler 64KB On-board Memory 10 Programmable Keys KB-CHP001US: Electronics

I want to know how well it lights up all the keys.

I have a Saitek which blue LED backlight but its SO DIM! I mean even in the dark you can BARELY make out the keys especially the ones that are well used and get a little stained.

To me it looks like the above keyboard has the same crappy quality as the Saitek lights but in red instead of blue.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Hi, The only option I can see that may be worth trying is to make sure you're running the latest bios version ( F.82 Rev.A ) as it mentions 'Correcting an issue with the W, A & D keys - see the cva on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp77001-77500/sp77359.cva You can check the notebooks current bios revision by holding down the fn key and pressing esc. If you are running an earlier revision, F.82 Rev.A can be found on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp77001-77500/sp77359.exe If you're already running this bios, or it doesn't correct the issue, my best advice would be to contact HP regarding this if the machine is still under warranty - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. Contact HP starting Here. Regards, DP-K

So I just got a Logitech g15 keyboard and plugged it in after installing the software and such, but when I plug it in, I get a message saying "USB Device Not Recognized" When I double click on the icon on the bottom right on the task-bar, it labels it as an unknown device.

I've tried turning my comp off and removing the power supply, that did not help, I went from SP2 to SP3, that did not help, I installed drivers from Logitech, that did not help, I tried disabling/re enabling the USB ports, that did not help, I've tried cleaning the ports, that did not help, I've tried plugging it into a different USB port, that did not help, I tried my USB mouse works fine, but my keyboard does not. I went into BIOS to see if anything was there that I could try, found something about USB Keyboard functions enable/disable, it was disabled so I enabled it, also noting here that the same thing for my mouse was disabled, and I enabled that too, but that did not help, same problem with my keyboard, the mouse still works just the same.

If this helps:

Go to the Device Manager and right click the Yellow mark and choose Uninstall.Remove the keyboard from the USB port. Then reinstall the Logitech software, Then plug in the keyboard to the Back USB port not the front, if it is a Desktop, as the front ports are weaker. If that doesn't work then go back to the Device Manager and if there are no yellow marks, right click any device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes. that will start the New Hardware Wizard. Also Download an updated driver from Logitech.

I just recently received my last Windows update and with it, I had an optional update for my NVIDIA GForce 8400....so, I thought "cool", and went ahead and downloaded/installed it through Windows. Never had issues before doing it that way until now. I have my monitors set (obviously within Windows) to power-off after 10 minutes. However, when it comes back from that status (i.e. move the mouse, hit a key, etc.) it freezes for a sec, goes black AGAIN, and then brings the desktop BACK up again, this time giving me the message I attached below in a .jpg.

Anyone with the same hardware or driver set experiencing this same bug?

A:Windows 7 "Optional" NVIDIA update....

I never use Windows drivers, I always go to the source.

Use device manager to roll back the driver.

Then get the latest driver from Nvidia if you insist on upgrading it.

Hello,

I have tried everything I can to fix this and now I'm at the end of the rope. I hate to ask for help as I realize this is done on a voluntary basis. I, however, appreciate any help you give and thank you in advance! My mouse and keyboard keep freezing when playing games. It will not freeze on games such as pokerstars, full tilt poker and pogo. It will freeze on WOW, worldwinner and such. I have tried using different mice and keyboards. I have adware, spybot, AVG and Windows Firewall activated. I have done scans, checked device manager, performed windows update and I may be forgetting a few things but please see logs as requested and I will patiently await a response. Thanks Much

I was on Amazon.com looking at the Logitech gaming mice and keyboards. In particular, this keyboard:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...TF8&coliid=I3HFPICXO2YVFH&colid=3CXCNQ4RANJ32

And this mouse:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002J9GDXI

I've never owned a gaming mouse or keyboard before. So I am wondering what the benefits really are in gameplay. Starting off with the mouse, I can't recall what my Microsoft laser mouse DPI is but I'm sure it's nowhere near the 5700 of the Logitech gaming mouse above. How much difference does that really make say when playing a shooter? How does it affect gameplay? Is it easier to aim quickly and accurately? Does it help you to play better? There must be some reason people like them. I'd like to understand how beneficial they are. As for all the extra buttons I don't honestly see myself using them. Do people really find all those buttons on a mouse helpful? What for? What do people activate with them?

On to the Logitech gaming keyboards. The one I linked above I think is their entry level model. I like the backlit keys feature. That is pretty cool. Some of the other stuff seems pretty useless to me personally. The defining feature of this keyboard really seems to be the macro keys. So the question is, what are they good for? I'm trying to imagine what I'd want to macro in a shooter for example. What would I want to macro playing s... Read more

A:Gaming keyboard and mouse questions

The mouse buttons can come in handy for things like reloading during gameplay. Hitting the mouse button with your thumb can certainly be quicker than hitting it with a finger on the keyboard.

The sensitivity and the acceleration (measured in G's, for g force) can be quite important, but so is having a good quality mouse mat to go with it. Ultimately speaking the higher the rating the more accurate the mouse is, and how sensitive it is to movement during gameplay.

Having adjustable DPI settings can be useful for things like sniping, where you can knock it down a touch to make the scope sight move slower. I use my Logitech G9 mouse at the highest setting all the time, but the option to reduce it on the fly can be handy some times.

As for the keyboard, those extra buttons could be used to perform multi-button actions during gameplay, or just used to perform certain functions in replacement of the existing keyboard buttons in use.

I must admit that having owned many gaming keyboards, I've ever really used the macro functions, so someone else would probably be better explaining this.

The backlit keys are indeed very helpful, especially in late night gaming sessions.

I got a nice big gift card for X-mas and want to get a new keyboard/mouse combo. I was wondering if there is any problems with wireless keyboards/mice and gaming. I play shooters/RPG/RTS/Simulations, pretty much all genre. Does anyone know of any good ones to get??

A:Wireless keyboard/mouse and gaming...

My advice, get one with a rechargeable mouse, there is nothing worse than your mouse not working because the batteries have died, other than that, I doubt you'll notice a difference between wired and wireless as long as you have the only set in the house.

Hi. First post here, so please excuse me if I've posted this in the wrong subforum.

When playing games, I can't use the keyboard and click on the mouse at the same time. I have to first stop using the keyboard, then wait a few seconds, then be able to click with the mouse.

Any ways to fix this? It's really irritating when playing, especially with those shooter games. Sniping isn't really my speciality

Thanks,

Hiya,

I debated for about 5-10 minutes whether this would be a hardware or a games thread... Whilst technically the thread is concerning hardware advice it's more to do with their correlation to games?

Plus I figured regular Games forum go-ers might have slightly more experience in this field

Simple question really, I'm looking for a decent gaming mouse and keyboard, as all my life I've had boring simple keyboards and mice and this bottom of the line wireless Logitech is just embarrassing now!

Looking to spend about £70? Maybe a little more if the cost:quality ratio is higher, not necessarily looking for a definite combo, ie, if you can recommend a mouse and then a separate keyboard for the same price then go ahead

Thanks in advance,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum xD

Hey all!  New user, first post.  Please forgive me if there's a post about this before.  I did a search, and didn't turn up anything quite like mine.

Ok, so let's start with the system specs:
Self-built machine with
Z77 chipset mobo
Intel i7-2600k processor
Nvidia GTX 670 gpu
16 gb Corsair RAM
power supply exceeds the needs of the system

The symptoms:
While gaming, my keyboard and mouse will sometimes freeze temporarily or permanently.  This usually happens when I'm playing League of Legends, however, it has started doing it with other games.  If it's a temporary freeze, I'll notice a distinct framerate drop after it unfreezes, and it will recover.  If it's permanent, the keyboard and mouse will lock up, the lights on both will blink on and off, and I'll have to restart my computer to recover control.

Solutions I have tried:
Driver updates for anything and everything, from USB to GPU drivers
Anti-virus scans with free AVG
check power loads on rails to ensure proper power supply

About myself:
I built this machine myself.  I cannot say that I am the most computer proficient person out there, but I consider myself to be much more competent than many.  As such, I may have not checked something properly.

If anyone has any ideas, then I'd greatly appreciate hearing them.  Cheers!

When moving using the WASD keys, I am unable to pan using the mouse pad, this makes it impossible to play many of my favourite games.

I've looked in the control panel and mouse settings and can't find any obvious solution, (I was hoping for a tickbox saying Disable mousepad while typing but there isn't one)

Am I missing something? I need these things to work simultaneously for gaming.

A:G15 gaming keyboard doesn't work

Have you previously had a USB (as opposed to PS2) keyboard connected to the system ?
If not, then you may have to enable the function in the motherboards BIOS.
If you have then it sounds like a fault with the keyboard. The G15 does not require the drivers and utilities (Key profiler and LCD manager) for basic functionality. If you have USB keyboard support enabled then the keyboard backlighting and LCD screen ( "Logitech" for rev.1 blue backlit, "G15" for rev.2 orange backlit) will initialize as soon as the OS loads.

It should be on the menu. It should scan your computer and pick them up. If you are talking about MW3, I use a very basic one. I can do most everything else with my mouse. If this helps, it is basically the same for all FPS games, with a couple of tweeks, for me.

So yeah, the new TechSpot laptop buying guide is superb, thanks to it I found the Sager laptops, which personally, I love. I hate the weird looking ASUS or Alienware laptops. I want a nice, chice looking laptop that would still look right in a professional envoirenment, yet is a beast under the hood. So I will probably go for the Sager NP8760 with a Intel® Core? i7-720QM Processor, GTX 460 and 4Gb of DDR3 1333Mhz. My only problem with them is the lack of backlit keyboard, and that's a big deal to me. I am a computer tech, I have replaced backlights in LCD's plenty of times, so I know more or less the theory behind installing my own backlight, and here's what I was thinking:

Part's Needed:
3" x 5" EL Backlight
Power Inverter for EL Strips
SATA Power Extension Cable

How to do it:
Hopefully, the keyboard will by such as the one in the ASUS Eee as in this article. Install Light Pad, and then place power inverter in empty HD bay, and connect the Power Inverter to the SATA power connector (which I know supplies 12vdc).

Would that work? Atleast theoretically?

A:Buying new (gaming) laptop, need backlit keyboard

A 3 by 5 backlight would only cover about half of your keyboard, so if you go this route you might want to get two of them. Also there is a chance that the EL backlight will not fit behind the keyboard. If you are set on getting the laptop, I would do that before you buy all these parts for the backlight.

Yes. Vista drivers work on Windows 7. There should be no fear at all.
Also, if you want to help the drivers, install it in compatibility mode :

I have recently built a new computer, and it has been working fine. The only major problem I have run into is my AULA BE FIRE Expert Gaming Keyboard has stopped working. The back lights are working, but none of the keys type. I have tested other keyboards on my computer and they all work fine. Also, I have tested the keyboard on other computers and it does not work. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem or if anyone knows how I could fix it. Could it be some sort of driver issue?
