Built in mechanism to check files during installation?

Q: Built in mechanism to check files during installation?

Is there any built in mechanism in Windows 7 during the fresh installation that all files are copied successfully from DVD to hard drive? or as long as Windows 7 completes the installation no matter how fast/slow it takes, one can assumed that all files are copied successfully?

Mine took about 25 mins, but during the installation lots of long pauses while reading/copying files from my 4X DVR+RW to hard drive as if Windows couldn't find files or constantly waiting from the rewritable 4X DVR+RW), but it eventually competed the installation in 25 mins none the less without giving out any error messages.

Thanks.

A: Built in mechanism to check files during installation?

you might try
cmd sfc /scannow it checks for any corrupt system files.

After clicking "install" in the UPS WorldShip installer, this helpful error message appears:
Code:

Installation failure during Step 1 of 24: ComponentInstallationManager:Run
Component Installation of MSI Compatibility Checker failed in Run function of ComponentInstallationManager.cs. MSICompatibilityinstaller.execute() - Failure

MSICompatibilityInstaller.installationSteps() - Failure , return code of 1645

Please contact Technical Support if you need additional assistance.

I do IT for a living and I'm at a loss for what this message could mean. Any ideas?

Never Mind.... apparently what all that gibberish means is: "You can't install this software from a remote desktop connection". Why the error message doesn't just say that is beyond me.

My friend wants to build new PC & he asked me to help with building & I built this system so far, but problem is, I fell behind all these hardware stuff & I'm not sure if I did that build right. I mean if there is anything incompatible, can you tell me?
Also, we plan to wait for Nvidia pascal, so we're not getting GPU at this time.

I have installed JavaRa and the only problem I am having is that I get a crash report when trying to check for updates to Java through the program. Specifically, when I click the "search for updates" button and then choose to use "jucheck".

Please see attached image. Thanks for any help you can give me

A:Why isn't the built in JavaRa update check working?

This is the best explanation I have heard yet:
jucheck and jusched

If you search for jucheck it seems a lot of people are confused, and so are their security systems.
I have also read where it can be a resource hog.

I have had success going to the update version site here: Verify Java Version , and letting Java check for itself.

It will go two ways. It will either tell you your okay or it will offer to update you.

YMMV....

Hey guys and gals. I'm new to this forum, but I could really use some help if you have the time. Here's my issue.

I built a new computer for myself, with the following general specs (more detail available if needed):

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ socket 754
Asus K8N-E deluxe
EVGA GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128mb
Western Digital Raptor 74gb 10,000 rpm SATA
2X512 Kingston ValueRam DDR 400
Sony IDE CD/DVD burner

This was the first computer I've built on my own (although I've done lots of upgrading, and such). The building went well, with no real problems, and as far as I can tell, every part is connected properly, and works fine (although it's possible I'm wrong, due to the problems I've been having).

So. I tried to install, and no dice. I was able to get through the copying files phase, and then it would freeze when trying to read the first file, every time. Checked the disk, and sure enough, big ol' scratch. *grumbles* So I borrowed another friends XP Pro disk (which is in perfect condition) using my cd key. Had no problems with verification/validation, and got much further through installation than before. Had the windows GUI up, and was going through those steps. Then, more problems. At some point in the installation, every time I try it, it goes to a navy blue screen with the message: "A problem has been detected, and windows has been shut down to protect your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this message, do so and so, blah blah blah". It doesn't ... Read more

A:New computer (built myself), OS installation issues. Help?

Few things, did you setup SATA properly on your board I belive you have to install the drivers and set it up so you are only using a single SATA drive as oppose to RAID. I had few problems with this. If you are using the Promise connectors (RED) you will have to go to their site and get the latest drivers and put them on floppy. If you use the other ones on your mobo cd there are drivers for SATA and you have to put it on floppy.
When you start the install there is going to be a message something about SATA at which you will have to hit I belive it is F6 and at that time it will load the appropriate drivers of the floppy. Once that is done the rest should go easy hopefully.

Hope this helps a bit

IN your mobo manual read very carefully the section towards the end that says installing hard drives

Hey,

I'm sorry if this has been discussed, but I'm just not sure how to do a clean w10 installation using my key from windows 7.

I'm upgrading my PC and I didn't create an USB with w10 installation using my windows 7, I forgot :/

I'm building a new PC now and I'd like to know if I can enter windows 7 key during w10 installation? If not, how is it done?

I'm creating a USB stick using tool from M$.

Thanks in advance.

A:Clean w10 installation using win7 key? (new built pc)

Yes you can. Just download the latest ISO from here (pick the correct Home or Pro version to match your 7 key), put it on a USB and boot from it to start the installation (you only need to do this if your existing USB isn't working as old versions didn't allow you to use Windows 7 or 8 keys and also you can't activate 10 Pro with a 7 Home key or v.v).

Boot from your USB and when prompted during the install type in your 7 key. Alternatively you can skip entering the key and activate once you've installed.

There is a tutorial here if it isn't clear... Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

You best do it before 29th July as otherwise you'll have to buy Windows 10...

I'm having ongoing issues with getting BSODs while attempting to do a clean install of Windows 10 on a new PC that I just built. Here are the specs:

CPU: AMD FX-9370
MB: Gigabyte GA-990FX-GAMING
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770
HDD: 240GB OCZ Trion 150 SSD
RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600
PSU: Corsair CX600M
Heatsink: Corsair H100i V2

Here is the background on what I've tried so far. Initially, I installed everything and booted into the bios to make sure the RAM and HD were recognized as well as checking the CPU temp. I didn't adjust any settings within the bios. Everything looked good, so from another computer, I used the windows download tool to create a bootable USB to install Windows 10. Booted from USB, got to the screen where you select the drive you want to install windows to and then it started copying and preparing files. Somewhere around 50% of preparing files, I received a BSOD. I believe it was a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error. So I rebooted and tried again. It got a little further this time, somewhere around 80%, and then another BSOD.

I figured that maybe I had a bad installation USB so I used the tool to download and create another USB and tried it again. This time, I got all the way through the installation but every time it tried to boot, I was getting a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. So, I took everything apart, re-seated the ram, video card, processor and all connections (sata, usb, power, etc). Booted again and tried to install and this time,... Read more

Recently, using FF 2.0.0.16 on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit computer, I notices popup ads from c5.zedo.com, when I visited a web page. The pop ups appeared if I left OR right clicked on a text area. The mouse pointer remained a pointer; had not changed to hand with extended index finger.

I verified that FF's popup blocker is / was on. I removed all exceptions & restarted the PC. Same problem. I viewed the page source, searched for zedo and found it related to java script.

I turned off Java, rebooted & the problem went away.

This did NOT occur using IE 7.

I stopped the popups by using the modified hosts file from mvps.org. Because the .bat procedure used by the mvps author to replace the hosts file failed in the past, I copied the contents of the modified hosts from mvps.org & pasted the contents into my hosts file, rebooted & success occurred. I had re-enabled java in FF.

I hope this information is useful to anyone else who encounters the phenomenon.

Firefox's popup blocker does not block all popups, although it does its best. The best way to block ads and the rest of the popups would be to use the Firefox AdBlock Plus extension.

Also, Java is not the same thing as Javascript. They are completely different, and I'm assuming you disabled JavaScript, not Java. However, you don't want to completely disable JavaScript because almost every modern website uses it in some way or another. AdBlock Plus should block the ads, but you can also use NoScript to block all JavaScript on a per-site basis.

everything seemed to be working fine until i installed windows. it gets through the initial part running off the cd and all the way through the product code. but very near the end it always throws this blue screen error code: 0x0000008E.

if i understand correctly, that code generally has to do with memory. windows xp supports up to 3 gigs of ram and i am only using 2.
i've tried taking sticks out, relocating sticks, even tested both ramsticks. they both work and windows just isn't.

Hey everyone, I'm not exactly a huge computer geek, but I do have some knowledge. Whatever you tell me to do, I'll try my best to get done.

I bought a brand new PC a few months ago, (I'll post specs and things after my problem and what I've done to try and fix it) but was unable to use it due to my old hard drive suddenly getting a Bad S.M.A.R.T. error, which pretty much told me instantly that I could no longer use it (I do still have it, but it's collecting a little dust.)
Anyways, I had to buy myself a brand new hard drive, a Seagate Barracuda SATA Hard Drive, 500GB.
I installed it perfectly fine, it seemed to be working good, I started installing Windows 7 Ultimate, and then BAM. Everything suddenly locks up. I give it about an hour, thinking it's just trying to register something so it's gonna take a bit of time. I come back and it's still frozen solid, so I give it a restart and try again.
This is where the problem begins.
I didn't think that Windows 7 had finished installing, so I went in to try it again. I went through all the same options, except there seems to be another disk, even though I have no other disk installed. When I chose my primary disk it told me there was an older version of Windows already installed and that it would of course be moved to "windows.old", I said yeah, ok, I can just delete that later.
It's been quite a few hours since that's happened and I can't specifically remember ... Read more

I can print a test page but when it gets to the bottom of the page thats when it gets locked up. I try to align it but Its printing sideways like the cradle is out of alignment but its screwed in tight plus the lines are overlapping each other like theres a problem with the ink. The ink has 75% left. I sold it and took it over there one day after work so it sat in my car so I think maybe the heat inside the car may have did something. The lady I sold it to just moved and I think they may have dropped it cause theres a black scuff mark on the corner but she said she didn't. Good morning.

I'm a third year university student and for one of my assignments, I am to write a research report based on the question 'Are Passwords an Effective Security Mechanism'. I have focused the research on biometric and traditional (alphanumeric combination) passwords. Also, I am required to obtain some primary research which can be argued against my secondary research to form some sort of conclusion, and to do this, I have decided that a questionnaire is the perfect solution.

I would appreciate it if some of you would take the opportunity to complete my questionnaire as you will be helping me out a lot. It will take no more than 2 minutes to complete. Also, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on biometric and traditional passwords, regarding their security.

The survey can be found here - https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/VMS7XPD

I apologise if this is in the wrong section or breaks a rule. I have checked the rules out and I believe it doesn't break the advertising rule, but it might to you guys.

Thanks in advance.

A:Are Passwords an Effective Security Mechanism

The user is the first and last line of defense. Strong passwords can be effective security measure. Unfortunately, it has been proven time and again that the user is a more substantial factor (weakest link) in security than the architecture of the operating system or installed protection software. Security is all about layers, and not depending on any one technology or approach to detect or save you from the latest threats. The most important layer in that security defense? You! Most threats succeed because they take advantage of human weaknesses (laziness, apathy, ignorance, etc.), and less because of their sophistication.Krebs on SecurityThese were the worst passwords of 2015, and they're only getting worseThis List Of 2014s Worst Passwords, Including 123456, Is EmbarrassingIts 2014 And Our Passwords Arent Getting BetterThe 25 Worst Passwords of 2013

When I try to search my computer, any part of my computer, the search module seems to stall. That is, it doesn't appear to be doing anything for anywhere between 10-30 seconds. After this time the meter starts working and the word "searching" comes up on the search box.

There seems to be a long delay between the time I give the order to search, and the time the search command is actually executed.

What can I do to eliminate this delay?

I have WinXP Pro SP2

i just bought a new computer, and assembled it.
everything works great, except that whenever i unplug the computer and then plug it back, i cant turn it back on again for a while.
No lights, no response, like its not in the socket at all. only after a few minutes of being unplugged it lets me turn it on again.
It was very anooying when i assembled the system, and had to wait for a while between adding stuff.
It really pissed me off when i had a power failure in my house for a second, and couldn't use my computer for about 20 minutes later.
Is this a safety thing from enermax? if it is, is there a way i can get around it? or atleast minimize the wait time?

Motherboard: Asus P5B

I may be off on those wattages, I can't be arsed to check for sure right now. But I'm not off by more than 15, and its not even relavent to your case.

Hi Team,
May I know how does windows time works?
During system boot up, after BIOS transfers the ownership to windows, does windows get the time value from CMOS RTC?
After that, how does windows time tick-tock? using PCH's HPET(High Precision Event Timer) or CPU's TSC(Time Stamp Counter)?
Does any interrupt or events will cause windows time pause? such as SMI?
Any documents from windows to explain this mechanism.
If I have to debug an issue relative with windows time, any way to monitor this time during system boot up?
it is a data structure or run time register reading or something else?
Thanks,

2) I checked hard disk in BIOS hard drive test and its came back with no errors in it

usually the way it works with certain files are that you need to take ownership before you are able to access and manipulate the file (in your case delete)

Take Ownership Shortcut
right-click the files and/or folders in question and there should be a take ownership....
after doing that you should be able to delete the file/s in question...

Why does the Windows 8.1 built in Skydrive take an age to upload files?

They are showing up in the Metro app and in the File Explorer folder. But it seems to not want to upload and there is no option to force sync.

How do I get Skydrive to upload straight away? It's no good as is because if I upload to skydrive and then try and get that file off of it on my iPad I can't. Doesn't matter if the app is open or not. Nothing happens.

There is no progress bars or indication as to uploading in the 8.1 skydrive app.

I have signed in under my microsoft account.

If I go back to local account, can I use the old Skydrive desktop app? That worked properly.

Hello everyone,

I don't know if this is the right forum for me to ask but I don't know whereelse to post this thread.

I have 2 different issues that I need help from any "guru" here.

1. When I run the checkdisk from tool tab. So I'm just wondering if my hard disk is really ok before I start defragmenting it . I also plan to defragment the boot files using ultra fast boot optimization and pagedefrag too but not sure if these actions are really safe considering the above checkdisk result.

The same thing happens everytime I try to re install the windows xp operating system using the original CD from Dell.

I just bought me an OEM copy of W7 SP1 and a new HDD to throw into my old Clevo compact desktop. The installation of both went smoothly, and I quickly updated everything via Windows Update and have mostly solved the compatibility issues with some of the desktop's old hardware. However, after running my first Disk Check on this installation and HDD (which went smoothly), and upon rebooting, I'm prompted w/a disk check start warning (which I cancel) and then with a BSOD w/the following error code:

***STOP: 0X000000c5 (0x0c2A2cc7, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8292B4C1)

Any idea as to what it may be and what can I do? Thanks.

Hi,

I have installed windows 7 x64, the installation went fine, it runs fine, no bsods, no crashes, no restarts, no freezes, no slowdown. Basically it just runs fine, all updates installed fine.

Now, I did a scan on the HDD, and it has bad sectors pending. I imaged the windows to another HDD.

Loaded onto the other HDD, it boots fine, runs fine, idles fine, installed a few things, checked the files system, ran chkdsk ( just fix box, not the second box to repair ), all OK.
So my question is, how can I know if the bad sectors on old HDD had any damage to the windows installation, and thus on the new HDD?

If the bad sectors caused data loss or corruption, before I imaged it on the old HDD, how would it show up on the new HDD. Should I being seeing any bsods, freezing, slowness? Any software to test to make sure it has not been affected in any way?
Thank you!

A:How to check if bad sectors has affected windows installation?

I suspect that if Windows 7 is installed on the part of the drive where there are no bad sectors, you should be OK.
But as programs are installed, the bad sectors may create problems.
I don't think there's any way of knowing if there are any problems within your current programs until they occur.

Drive manufacturers have programs that diagnose and possibly repair bad sectors.

A couple of weeks ago i started receiving an error on startup saying that Disk C: needed to be checked for constancy, Type of file is NTSF, Cannot open Volume for Direct Access due to a recent software package installation, please use system restore to a point prior to the software installation. There is not a restore point available to access as far back as i need to go. What do i need to do fix this problem??? Plus is there any way to figure out what program is causing this issue, so i can uninstall it??

A:Can't Check C: Disk due to recent software installation

right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type: chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

Good afternoon,
I will explain you the score... I have 20 PCs with Windows 7 Enterprise at 32 and 64bit with different version of IE and Java installed.

I have to install to all the same version of IE and Java, exactly:
IE 11.0.9600.18376
Java 8.1.01

I have the offline installer of both.

Have can I do that via scripts?
I guess first I have to check the version installed, then eventually remove it and install the new ones. Where can I look for that?

Cheers!

Hello all,

Yesterday, Microsoft sent out a new batch of updates through Windows Update. However, I ran into issues when I tried to manually install the Update to Windows 7 file (KB2868116). Namely, the update seemingly hung on me; I left the update on for 20-30 minutes, but it never progressed beyond this file. I tried clicking the "stop installation" button, but nothing happened even after several minutes. Not knowing what to do, I forced a restart of my computer. I was able to boot to windows fine and was able to then manually install the other update files fine. Windows, so far, seems to be working fine; I can boot to it, run my programs and shut down fine. Windows Update doesn't show the offending update as having installed, and the update still shows up as available, downloaded, and ready to install (I right clicked on the specific update, and "hid" it to prevent it from trying to install when I shut down). I also did NOT get any error messages. However, I'm still worried that I may have broken something when I restarted my computer.

My questions are, how worried should I be that something got corrupted? If I should be worried, how do I check to see if the update corrupted anything and how do I fix it if I find something. Also, while I have the update hidden and am preventing it from installing, the actual download is still on my computer. Is the anyway to get rid of it?

Thank you.

A:How do I check for Windows Update file installation corruption?

An update that is not installed will affect your computer - and is best left alone, since there are interdependencies in the downloads.
If/when MS revise the update, it will reappear in the offered list, and whichever files are not required will be deleted while those that are still need won't have to be re-downloaded.

Pleasefollow the WindowsUpdate Posting Instructions and post the requested data

Hello,

My HD recently suffered some bad sectors. Using SpinRite I was able to recover and move most of the data to other areas of the HD. Since then, when starting the computer or launching almost any program I am presented with a dialog box, the name of the app in the upper left corner followed by "The application or dll XXX is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." as shown in the attached image. Clicking on 'OK' closes the error dialog box and the app opens without problem. When starting the computer there are many dialog boxes that are displayed. I believe that with the corrupted sectors something happened to one or more dlls. Guidance? Thank you.

A:The application or dll XXX is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I would try uninstalling/reinstalling Panda software...and I would run chkdsk /r command on the system partition (before uninstalling Panda product).

Hi all

Looking for some information. I'm replacing 3 pc's in the business I work for. We use custom software and have to remain on Windows xp to avoid issues with the database hooking correctly. We have used mostly Dell pc's to run our software, and from time to time need to reinstall Windows as needed. With the Dell systems, I wipe the partition and insert a disk, reinstall, add drivers plus our software, then I'm done. I'm considering building 3 new pc's maybe around the i5 level for workstations. I was curious if there was a way to build in the Windows XP serial number like Dell and other vendors do. Is this a specific type of main board ? A function in the bios ? I would love to be able to duplicate this, if it's possible.

Thank you

A:Windows install / vendor built vs homebrew / built in serial

You can not use the same serial number for a different computer. Its illegal. You'll need to buy a copy of Windows XP for each computer or buy a Set copy that will work on 3 different computers.

My email client, desktop program PostBox (for Win) has been slowed since I installed BD TS2016 (I'm quite sure this is the reason as it was very fast before, and slowed immediately after...)

I also run WebRoot AV (which does not scan email as per their documentation) and HitmanAlertPro (which could also be affecting my email client, but I uninstalled it to test this somewhat small chance given its just an anti-exploit, and it doesn't seem to have affected it, the client is still slow).

1. I would LIKE BD to scan my email as of course having AV w/o scanning email could in many ways be pointless given email can be a deadly vector for heavy malware.

2. But I don't want my client to be slow. It's not horrible, and I suppose I could tolerate it (basically deleting messages, loading new messages, and the program responsiveness overall, is a bit sluggish compared with its normal instantaneous response)

3. Is there a way to configure email scanning differently? Or should the program NOT be slowing my client noticeably in general, and is this behavior indicative of something being wrong?

I'm sure BD users will be able to comment on whether it slows their email or not given they use a desktop client like Outlook, Postbox, Thunderbird, etc.

Thanks!

A:BitDefender Email Scanning Mechanism? Performance Issues w/ email Client

Hi,
I'm sitting with a big issue at a customer and ask for your help.
Environment:
- 3x Windows 2008 R2 file servers configured in DFS
- approx. 500x Windows 7 clients (Laptops)
- 3x network shares, Common1, Common2 and Homefolder.
- "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection" enabled for entire user profile.
- Everything is controlled by GPOs and there are no login scripts.
Symptom:
Due to some faulty settings in the client GPO and the fact that the "Common" shares was set to allow Offline Caching of files and folders, the majority of clients now suffer from sync issues and conflicts.
Most of the conflicted files are located in the users home folder, but some users are also seeing the same issues with files located on the "Common" shares. The users themselfes are not allowed to enable Offline Files as this is disabled by GPOs.
The only folders that should be treated as Offline Files are the ones in the users home folder.
Solution:
A new set of GPOs have been created that correctly set up "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection". These are linked to a test-OU and the computers and users applied to that OU are not suffering from the problems above.
Question:
When we move a client, the cache will be deleted and all non-sync'd work will be lost.
Today we manually look at every users sync center and try to resolve the conflicts before we move them to the new OU. This is extremely time consuming when... Read more

Greeting,

I have been applying some of the advice from the techguy.org threads and got to the point in those thread where the advisor suggests providing a log and txt file. I hope I didn't get ahead of myself buy trying these fixes before talking to one of you.

I have been following the advice in the threads I found after searching under, "Worm.Win32.NetSky".

I ran SDFix and then HiJackThis! in this order. Here are my text and log files...
_________________________________________________________________________
3/2/2008, 2:44 EST

Additional Details: I had the following issues prior to running SDFix:

1) I had 3 icon on the desktop that were for some type of antivirus/spyware/privacy software.
2) I had a red screen for one of the dual screens, that disabled all the icons and had a link in the middle that said something about privacy danger
3) Norton detected a downloader, but didn't give much detail
4) I had a white "X" in a red circle blinking in the tool tray
5) I still have intermittent access to the task manager - I loose admin privileges
6) I would see two windows suggesting a virus had been detected and I should go to the recommended site and download the software (this is the message that had the Worm.Win32.NetSky in it.

I still seem to have the issue with the task manager, but all the other signs are gone.

Hello,

My laptop is Amilo L1310G

CPU 1.7GHz
Grahics: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Series (128MB).

It makes blue screen over and over every about 30 minutes...

If using Windows 7 Or even Windows XP , it keeps making blue screens...

But when i installed Windows 7 Ultimate....

I really want to use this windows on this laptop and enjoy the effects of the Aero effects theme....

But i also couldn't do this one....

When i make the Windows 7 with Aero effects as the active theme, windows then shows a message which contains the following:
- The Aero effect is not compatible with the current graphics driver, please update your driver...
I did downloaded the driver from the Amilo website, which is the only driver available in the site it is shown: Only for Windows XP like this:

http://www3.0zz0.com/2010/10/02/04/216609914.jpg

And here are the minidump files, I made them in one file.

A:Can you check this minidump files for me please!

looks like your laptop is a bit old and slow for Windows 7 Home Premium (or other versions with Aero)

Can someone check these files and see if there is anything major
The reason is because earlier today, my PC failed to start up for some reason, even though the shut down was normal.

I'm also having a problem with a game, should i post the stuff here or in a new thread under PC Gaming Support?

Thanks

A:Minidump files check.

NOTE: Please provide the following information for a more detailed response: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

While waiting for a reply:

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diagnostics ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Quote:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
Hard Drive Diagnostics (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)
There are also free, bootable antivirus disks at this link: Free Online AntiMalware Resources - Bootable Disks

After posting all that info we'll have a better idea of what's wrong. If necessary we can transfer this topic to the Games forum - or we can ask one of the Games experts to have a look at it over here.

The memory dumps are old - the most recent being over a month old. I'll run them, but don't hold much hope for them to contain a solution for you. But who knows, we may get lucky!

And, I think that we've gotten lucky....

How can I be sure that the file I just downloaded has not been corrupted? For example I have tried downloading a non-commercial movie from P2P in ISO format and it has some small artifacts at times, and if I try to download it again it might not have those. BTW the subject in question is not P2P networks, just what can guarantee the integrity of a downloaded file either from P2P or a website or from wherever.

A:Two explorer files running please check my log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hello, I am in dire need of help. I am a college student who has a paper to turn in on my computer that is due by Tuesday. I have been following the instructions at the following link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-system-check I have downloaded all of the required programs to a USB drive and I am currently in safe mode. The screen is black with no icons on my desktop and all I have to work with is a Start Menu. Currently I am trapped on step 3, I don't know how to get the programs I downloaded off of the USB drive. I can't reach 'My Computer' and the normal alert I get when I plug in something new to my computer does not show up. I'm going to have to run it from the start menu, but how do I do this? What do I type in exactly? Please help, this virus came at the worst time,I hope this makes sense.

My machine having WINDOWS XP SP3 OS has been infected by smart check virus which has changed extension of all the files (like .doc, .xls, .jpg, .pdf) to .crypt. So now the files are all like .doc.crypt.

Next, if I rename this files and remove the extension, the file is not recovered. The file seems to have got encrypted in some way or it has corrupt data inside it.

I am not able to make out which virus has such a behaviour because I have tried anitivirus like NAV, AVG and some other but none of them can detect this problem and help me to recover the files.

Kindly send any information about this problem and how to recover infected files.

Howdy,

I use MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware to scan my computer daily for malware.

I would like to know how I can scan E-mail before I open it for malware and how to scan any pictures or music files that I plan to download with these programs.

I right click on my mouse but I do not see a option to scan. Perhaps I do not have things configured correctly ??

I seem to remember that when I was running IE-7 the option was there but I could be wrong.

I use Windows LiveCare for my virus, spyware and firewall protection.

XP Home, IE-8, SP-3

Thank You for your time.

Hi,

After a failing attempt to do a Vista -> Win7 upgrade, I had to start with a clean installation.
I installed Win7 on my C: partion, while all my data is stored on a D: partion.

After it finished I noticed that lost of files are missing.
I had several games installed on de D: partion, but I don't see any exe file no more.

HELP what has happened.

Thanks so far.

Ruud

A:Files gone after installation

I believe a "clean" installation will format the entire C: drive

Where are the installation files located on the XP CD? So I can copy the files to the hard drive, and then install XP off the Hard Drive.

Thanks.

Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting on this forum so I'm not sure if this topic fits in this forum...but anyway, I downloaded a winRAR archive file for a drum machine and when I extracted the files, I got two files: one is a BIN file and the other is a CUE file. Can anyone help me and tell me how to install these files? Thanks!

A:Installation HELP!!! (BIN and CUE files)

Well, sounds like this is a pirated piece of software. If so, you won't get any help here.

I have a DELL XPS 400 PC I got in Feb 2006

It has WIN XP but didn't come with an installation CD. It said if this is needed it has a "restore" function that will reinstall it without the CD

I recently got a Lexmark all in one (scanner, copier, printer, fax) Mainly to use as a copier and scanner, I have a good printer and I know the Lexmark is cheap. Model 1185 (1100 series) It actually copies and scans better than anything I've had before that cost a lot more. And, the little I've used it to print it seems to very well, too.

I installed it with the cd that came with it, it says not to use the new hardware wizard that comes up, because it has to put in it's own (where it's an all in one)

Today I decided to set up the FAX (BVRP brand, was installed with the all in one software) in case I need it (I rarely do but if I do I want it working).

When I open the fax a box comes up saying "insert windows installation CD-ROM" and to browse to put in the path to the CD-ROM and click okay.

I don't have a Windows installation CD.

I've tried browing to WINDOWS on C drive and trying various folders (like cache) but nothing is what it wants.

I went to the Lexmark site, found the this model- driver with WIN XP but it says on it the drivers are only for the scanner and printer. Unless the fax is included in this?

System & Maintenance/Back up & Restore Center-
Wanted to back up files etc but unable to check box as it's saying "This feature has been disabled by your system administrator", on both the Back up and the Restore areas.
I did a back up on 26/03/10, no problems, and I am on not on a network etc, I am the sole private user, the administrator (?) which leads me to believe that I have somehow checked/unchecked/disabled a box somewhere

Any ideas how to enable it again please ?

So I finally got rid of system check through a long proccess using rkill.exe and malwarebytes and now that its gone and supposedly all the files included in it are gone, i cant open or see any of my files
I cant see any computer files or even any programs i had pinned to my taskbar. The only things that open up are things i have to start up when i boot up the computer. such as Steam, i know all my programs and files are still on my computer because it still says i haev 440 out of 1TB used on my hardrive, also i can play games through Steam that i cant find on my computer.

Does anyone know how i can fix this problem?
The only abnormal thing i can find besides what i stated above is that, on task manager "winrscmde" is running at 800,000k which i can obviously tell is extremely too high.

Solutions?

Hi there,

How do you check for missing .dll files in Windows XP and replace them?

A:How to check for/replace missing .dll files in Windows XP

The least intrusive to your OS (if XP) is the command line sfc /scannow

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...ddocs/en-us/system_file_checker.mspx?mfr=true

You should have an install disk handy tho

I'm recently noticed that some zip files that I store images on contain some empty image files "0 KB".
I'm just wondering if anybody knows of a quick way to scan a bunch of folders each with several zip each and then show which zip files contain empty files.

Thank you.

A:Check inside zip files for empty file

A:Used Memory in disk is 630 GB but check only 27.2 gb of files exists

It could be that you have alot of shadow copies on your HDD.

Shadow Copy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Try clearing your shadow copy(s);

Right click on your hard drive and click properties. Click Disk Cleanup then click “clean up system files”. Now click on the more options tab then under System Restore and Shadow Copies click “clean up”

EDIT:
Just found this,

Shadow Copies - Delete

Actually this happen ages ago but since it done nothing with the hard drive(or it seems do nothing) i didn't worry
Until today I relieze when I want to make fan videos again,I found like 5 videos are missing.I search for them bbut nothing came up
I download the videos again and went I reboot, the computer want to check my HD and I was slow at canceling it..so when it load up,I go to my HD again, and I lost one video again

Can I disable it from checking my second HD or make it shut up on trying to check my HD?

A:Windows Disk Check Deleting Files On Second Hd

I'm unsure of what your problem is and what you're asking. In the BIOS there is a section to change the boot device order. There should be an option in there. You're not dual booting with a second OS are you?
