I am using the program "Random Events Sound" to randomize my startup, shutdown, trash, etc. sounds. The program uses the windows list of sound events.

I want to ADD to that list to include the events of loading various programs.... like Internet Explorer for example. Can I do this?

There is an 'event' for "loading programs" but that seems the refer to ANY program, not specific ones.

Thanks

My small C# (.net 4.6) wpf application writes 100000 events to ETW (extremely fast !!).
If I start logman from my application to generate etl and reads etl from perfview, there is usually a few hundreds lost events.
However, if I let perfview start the logging by starting my application, none is lost (always).
What is perfview doing that my start of logman is not ?
My C# code:
Guid eventSourceGuid = MyEventSource.Log.Guid;
Process proc = new Process
{
    StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo
    {
        FileName = "logman.exe",
        Arguments = [email protected]"create trace MyTrace -bs 1024 -nb 16 1024 -p {eventSourceGuid.ToString("B")} -o {myEtlFolder}\mytrace.etl",
        UseShellExecute = false,
        RedirectStandardError = true,
        RedirectStandardOutput = true,
        CreateNoWindow = true
    }
};
proc.Start();
Process.Start("logman", "start MyTrace");
...
Process.Start("logman", "stop MyTrace");
Process.Start("logman", "delete MyTrace");

Q: Events

can someone explain what are the system Events log for and how does one correct the events that are occuring.

A:Events

The event log is simply to record when something significant happens on your system, which can be anything from a crashed program or BSOD to booting the computer to a failed or successful login. It's a diagnostic tool so that when you have a problem you can find out some more information about what happened around that time. Talking about correcting the event depends upon what the event was; many (such as successful boots) don't need correcting.

If you have a particular and recurrent error feel free to ask about it specifically.

I've built my father a new PC for Christmas, it's all set up and works nicely - however he has a habit of carelessly installing apps/drivers/codecs and changing settings without any care or proper understanding of the implications.

The result usually ends up with a PC riddled with bloatware, spyware etc and takes an age to do anything.

Please can someone suggest some freeware I can install that monitors daily usage milestones, so I can read reports of what he's installed or changed, when he starts complaining that the computer is 'so slow and unstable'?

It's running XP Pro, and I'm aware there's a built in event viewer, but I find this very convoluted to navigate and find meaningful reports.

Curiosity has finally gotten the best of me. Whenever I check my firewall events log I often see a long list of "medium" rated blocked events similar to this:

Program: Generic Host
Protocol: UDP
Destination IP: 192.168.0.101
Direction: Incoming
Action Taken: Blocked
Source DNS: (typically) rs1.mdfrd.or.charter.com OR rs1.knwk.or.charter.com
Destination DNS: VAIO-PCVRS530G

The "Source DNS" is my ISP (Charter Communications) and of course the "Destination DNS" is my PC. Typically these types of events are **always** blocked by my firewall which is the current version of Zone Alarm.

Basically I'm just wondering what these events represent and should I consider adding them to my "trusted" zone?

Thanks,
-Mike

A:Blocked UDP Events

I would not worry about this. User Datagram Protocol (UDP) is not connection based like TCP/IP. It basically just provides. A lot of programs use UDP to pass generic data packets, or datagrams, from one computer to the other on a network.

I upgraded recently from Vista to Windows 7 in-place.

Every other day, I wake up in the morning to find that my PC has rebooted.

Looking in the event logs for an explanation, I see that my system log doesn't show any new entries since the middle of June. For two months, my system hasn't recorded any new event logs. This obviously started happening while still running Vista.

Any ideas? TIA.

A:No new events in system log

Open event viewer, on the right hand side you will find the "Actions" column, click on properties > Make sure that the enable logging box is checked.

That should do it. Tell me if it doesn't.

Hey everyone! First time here. Went through quite a few posts but couldn't come across the exact issue I'm having and I hope someone can help.

SYS - Dell XPS 400, Windows XP pro, Logitech 3200 wireless K&M, Dell Surround Sound system.

Old Keyboard and Mouse (K&M) went inop. Logitech was awesome and they replaced both of them free of charge. Now the issue...(be easy on me - I'm just "OK" with this stuff) ;~')

After installing the new software for the K&M, all of my event sounds stopped working. Logitech has been great in trying to assist with this issue but to no resolution. I can play a video, play music and I can hear all of my games as well but none of my event sounds are working at all.

I did a clean uninstall/reinstall of the Logitech software twice, the last one being from their website via an email the tech sent me. Still nothing. Everything with the settings for my sounds appears to be okay and I've switched between the themes including back to the Window's default settings and still nothing.

When I try to play a .wav (or whatever) from the control panel (sounds and audio devices), I get a warning that says that it can't play the sound that my sound card may be in use. ????? However, if I access the same sound (actually any sound) via Windows Explorer, it will play fine.

Can anyone help?!

Greetings,

Help! My son somehow got hold of some work emails of mine that are confidential. Does anyone have any idea how he may have got hold of them? We don't want to "password" the computer 'cos the whole family uses it. We all clear temp internet files and clear the history of sites visited. but somehow ...! Help.

A:How To Locate A Log Of Events

Hi there mike.

Well, firstly, I'm going to assume that you're using a e-mail client. (Such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Netscape, something like that) as oppose to using the browser to view the e-mails.
I strongly discourage using a e-mail client without a password protection on it if it's a shared computer, because then it's quite easy for someone to access your e-mails, and the only way to check to see if they did is if the e-mail is newly recieved and you can see that it's been read or unread, although it's easy to tag them as read/unread without even reading them.

So my first suggestion in keeping your e-mails confidential is accessing them using the browser and checking to make sure that the password isn't saved. Otherwise, use the e-mail client only make sure that e-mails cannot be viewed without entering the password to their account.

I hope that helps,
nyiddle.

Hi squid and welcome

Thats a fairly common event. Just means that the DNS server didnt respond quickly enough and the event was logged. Not an error maybe informational

This turned up in cookies to be deleted when I ran ccleaner a few days ago.

I found it odd since I don't accept cookies or 3rd party cookies in Firefox except the ones that I type in to be allowed. When I push the show cookies button in Firefox it does not appear there. I decided to block it anyway in Firefox and thought that worked but it still seems to pop up sometimes when I run ccleaner.

I've ran Spybot S&D,Superantispyware,Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials and get nothing.

I've done some searches on it and got nothing informative. I can't really tell if this thing is harmless or not.

Sigh.

First, once in a few days, my computer will start having the mouse become jumpy and the internet stop working... Most likely ad-ware so I do the typical clean from Ad-Ware, Spybot, etc., and hit it up with WinSock XP fix.

It worked I suppose but again it gets worst and now what I did before doesn't work. AVG and Sybase are both up to date.

Irritated, I decided to do a clean format and start all over. I reformat, re-install Windows, and still my Internet doesn't work. Now, I'm super annoyed. So, again I try to fix it and guess what? When I turn on my computer, it loads up to the loading screen and after that, it blanks. I tried doing safe mode in every aspect, it freezes as it is loading some of the files. Tried booting from the CD and then it's ok until it hits the blue screen where at the bottom, it says Setup is starting Windows...

And there I'm.

It's a bit hard for me as I need this comp to work. I'm at Davis away from home and need this for school. Any help is appreciated.

On server 2000, has anyone ever seen the events go missing from the event log? You open up the event viewer, and it says there are (for example) 800 events, but below is just blank.

Cheers,

A:Event log events missing

Is this true for all logs (system, application, security)?

Any chance that the little window divider is just moved all the way to the right? This would leave only the "Type" column displaying.

Also under the "view" tab there is an option to add/remove columns. Are they all selected? (Type, Date, Time, ID, etc....)

A:Series Of Unfortunate Events

Services can be on Autostart and not necessarily be running. They can be manually stopped...in which case they continue to reflect Autostart but they will not be running.

I just checked my system. System Restore is one that reflects Autostart, but I have put the hammer down on it and it is not running.

It would probably help if you tell us just what services you are concerned about that reflect this situation. "A lot" leaves much to individual imaginations.

How do I audit events on a stand alone NT 4 server? I've gone into User Manager for Domains and turned it on there, but nothing is showing up under the security portion of Event Viewer. Any help would be great.

A:Auditing events on an NT 4 server...

you must also enable auditing on the folders and files you want to monitor activity on. you can do this by going into the properties option when you right-click on a folder/file and selecting the Securities tab. click on the auditing button and set it.

This one has been bugging me for sometime now.
In Administrative Tools of Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit.
There is Event Viewer. Within Event Viewer there is Custom Views, when that folder is clicked an Icon appears called Administrative Events, to which the middle pane shows a list of ERRORS.
Ok for the life of me I can not figure out how to clear or delete those error events from the log. I want to get rid of any error logs older than a week and some of these date back to December 2009.
I have checked every where within event viewer to clear, remove or delete these old entries.
What am I over looking here?

Thanks in advance for any help you people can provide.

A:Administrative Events-Windows 7

Custom Views -> Administrative Logs are combination of various logs combined together using a filter. Normally it contains Application, System, Security, and many more so that an administrator does not have to jump from one log to another log. It is just a filtered log view and not the actual log.- If you want to clear a log then select an individual log like Application and then right click on it, select Clear log. - You can also set the size limitation to smaller one like 1024 KB (which is 1MB) (by default it is 20MB). 1024 KB should be able to contain events of past 7 days or so. To set log size, right click on a log and select Properties and there you would see options.As soon as you limit the size, or clear the log, you would see the changes reflected in the filter (Custom Views -> Administrative Logs)You can identify a filter by a funnel like icon. The actual logs have a word pad like icon. You can also create your own filtered log views.

Is there any way to know when A/C power failure was there,
when system went to standby and so on.

A:Track power events

I believe that it is possible with powercfg. Go to powershell (start menu type in search box) and type in powercfg /?. It will give you a list of functions.
Ill report back when I find a specific function that seems suitable.
btw, welcome!
-last awake: can give details about the last time the computer woke from sleep.

The event viewer can also help you probably.
Go to start menu, type in event viewer. Hit enter and you should see (if you expand the folders) a list of events that occured on the system

Hey guys, is there a way to sync my facebook events with Windows 8 calendar app?

Thanks.

A:Sync Facebook Events

I realise this thread is old, but I recently wrote a guide to doing this in both Windows 8 and 8.1, so here it is in case anyone else wonders how to do it: -

I don't use many Metro apps in Windows 8.1, but I do like the live tiles: -

Much like with Android widgets, the live tiles are a way to see certain info at a glance.

In Windows 8 and 8.1 you can connect accounts, so, for instance, you can connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts. When you do that, certain info will be pulled into apps automatically, for example, you can see the notification about someone accepting my friend request on Facebook on the lower tile in the screenshot above.

If you connect a Facebook account, your friends' birthdays will appear on the calender by default, but Facebook events will not. If you want to add Facebook events, here's how to do it: -

1. Go to your list of events, here: -

https://www.facebook.com/events/list

If you don't want event invites to show up on your calendar, then click on the cog, top-right, and choose "Settings": -

Then check the box next to "Hide invites from iCal export" and hit "Save": -

2. Click the cog, top-right, and choose "Export": -

3. This window will pop up: -

Right-click on "upcoming events" and copy the link.

4. Go here and log in with your Microsoft account (depending on your security settings and the account you're logged into in Windows, it may log you in automatically)... Read more

Summary: cleaned a malware intrusion. Upon returning back to almost normal, noticed that the Windows Sound Events (Control Panel) were missing. A click on the system tray speaker yields a pc speaker beep.

For programs with their own sound associations (like AOL), they work fine. All windows related program event & sound associations are missing - do not appear in the list, however:

1) The windows .wav files exist in C:\WINNT\Media folder
2) In Control Panel Sounds & Audio Device Properties, the functionality works, but the .wav files do not appear.
3) Tried SnanNow utility to restore and did not work.
4) A website, www.nosystemsounds.com, advertises a program, K-Lite Codec Pack, which fixes PC's with lost sounds, videos, etc via registry key fixes. Sounded too good to be true, and did not work.

So, short of a reinstallation (Windows works great except for missing sound events), I am looking for help in resolving the sound issue, if possible.

Hello,

Recently I noticed my Events Log and I found out some Errors and Warnings in the Custom View => Administrative Events Section that pretty upset me. They are about 31.000 errors and I think that they may slow down my computer. I asked some techs from a tech support what these errors were. They connected to my computer, saw the errors and told me that the errors were caused due to malware and potentially unwanted applications and that they must be fixed immediately, otherwise the problem might get worse. They also told me that they can only be fixed manually and the price is 250 dollars, but I cannot afford this.
Here is a picture : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/62/0azp.png/

Please, can you elaborate on this and explain me what these errors are and maybe how to fix them? I would really appreciate it!

Thank you.

Ok, so this is my first post and the reason I signed up. My desktop was running Windows XP service pack 3, had an AMD Phenom quad core processor, a NVIDIA gtx 9800 graphics card, 4GB of RAM, X-fi sound blaster sound card, a 700 watt power supply, a semi-cheap foxconn mother-board, and a 500Gb seagate HDD. I built this computer myself using parts from newegg.com.
Well one day I'm on x box talking to my friend and he tells me to get on newgrounds to look up this video. When i turn my computer on it just sits at the black screen with the flashing underscore cursor(forgive my incompetence of proper computer terms). After a minute or so it gives me a message saying: Insert boot media or select proper boot device. After quite some time of me freaking out and getting on my moms laptop to search tech forums for possible answers I realized that if i unplugged my mouse for some reason it would take me to a screen with a bunch of information about master drives and slave drives and from there i could get to my bios. Well I was examining my bios and drives when I found out my computer had stopped reading my HDD all together and i couldn't select it as a primary boot device. I asked a friend about it and they said they had the same problem with an old seagate HDD they had. "Blue screen" is typical of a TV without an input signal.

Disconnect/remove all of the hardware. Nothing but the motherboard w/cpu, RAM, and video card. Reseat all remaining cables and hardware. Power on and see what happens. If everything is functional, it will POST and you will get the "missing boot device" message again (because the HDD is not connected). In which case, power down, and connect the HDD.

If it doesn't POST, power down and remove the video card. Try booting again. It should POST and give a BEEP/ERROR code (missing video card)...in which case the video card may be faulty. If it doesn't POST....power down and remove the RAM. Try booting again. It should POST and give a BEEP/ERROR code (missing RAM)...in which case the RAM could be faulty. If it doesn't POST, you have a motherboard/cpu or power supply issue.

Hi,
I was trying to set up a wireless network to share printers and files etc..(both Win XP Home)
After I finished putting the setup on a flashdrive from my upstairs computer, I went down to the other one - the downstairs computer has a pci modem and one that is on the motherboard - it was hooked directly to the router from the pci card. When I did the setup.exe for the networking files it only listed the motherboard modem, which was "unplugged" - so in order to get it to maybe see the pci one, I went and tried to disable the motherboard one from Network Connections. This cuased the computer to have a fatal error and restart. So I thought it was a fluke, and tried it again - same thing happened... so after it was done restarting, I unplugged the cable to plug into the motherboard modem, since that one was being detected in the wireless networking setup wizard... it crashed as I plugged it in and now will not boot.
Both the master and slave are ATA.

The master drive will work on my Upstairs computer, but the older slave drive (FAT - about 9 years old with very important files) DOES NOT.

The fact that the master is ok on another computer leads me to believe something happened to the motherboard on the downstairs computer (I switch out the IDE cables and tried reseting CMOS)

Did something also happen to the slave that it is not seen on the other computer?
Is there something I can try to get the old slave to be seen? I can feel it spinning, there are no clicks, et... Read more

A:A series of unfortunate events

Ok new information:
I tested the Downstairs computer with my SATA drive and it works fine on it. Something in the PATA connection on the motherboard is messed up since it will not boot the PATA drive - must have gotten a static charge or something when I plugged the Cable Modem Line into the motherboard.
But my question for the "Little Guy" (9 year old slave with FAT formating) why is that not working? Is there something with my newer Upstairs computer that maybe blocks it from being seen, since it is in FAT format? Are there any settings I can check in BIOS to help it?

Our backup drive went down over the week-end, and using the event log I've been trying to establish a sequence of events that lead up to it:

3:06:56am - Event ID 100 (ESE97) - the MSExchangeDS <process id> The database engine <version> started.

3:07:03am - Event ID 1000 (FtpCtrs) - Unable to collect the FTP performance statistics. The error code returned by the service is data DWORD 0.

3:07:49am - Event ID 17 (Removable Storage Service) - RSM cannot manage library Tape0. It encountered an unspecified error.

I'm 99% sure there's a connection. We had a problem w/ the drive after we first installed it last month, and I checked the event viewer and that was also the last time the Event ID 100 occured - so there's got to be a connection.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to try to fix it? The firmware and drivers were all updated and SCSI cables were also replaced. I've found lots of info on those events individually, but nothing to connect them.

Thanks.

I am being troubled by repeated occurrences of the Disconnect and Connected sounds.
I am trying to identify what is causing these and thought there might be a clue in the event logs.
Does anyone know if these events are logged and where which might give me a clue as to what is happening?

A:Disconnect and Connect events

These Admin events are likely to be logged in DeviceSetupManager via the Information level.

Right click on the Start button and select Event Viewer. View all instances of the Information events and look for a time when you know it has happened. You might get a clue from the references to any devices being connected/disconnected or serviced.

Hi Everyone

Does anyonew has an idea how to hook for touch events? something like lowlevelmousehook.... That i can catch touch event all over the screen AND disable them..

since i want to stop some of them fromhappening, i cannot just read from the HID...

I'm trying to add the touch part to my own magnifier app. The magnifier api, as supplied by microsoft, does not support the touch part, hence - if i touch the magnifier window (when it is in "lens" mode") in order to ... clock a button for example, the button will not click, instead, whatever is lying beneath there is clicked. So - i handled the mouse events by using lowlevelmousehook, but.. this does not apply for touch events. for example- it is not work on mspaint...

I trying to register my host window, and the magnifier window, and even its child window (that is created by microsoft api) to become touch windows, but they do not get the touch messages... Probably because they are transparent(but not for sure).. so i cannot really catch WM_TOUCH... and i really don't want to set a global windows hook for catching touch in all applications....

any advise anyone?

SubForm Open - SubForm Load - SubForm Current - MainForm Open - MainForm Load - MainForm Activate - MainForm Current

I have a form and subform and when I either double click on the main form in the List of Access Objects or Open Access which opens the main form I need to click something before it performs the logic in the Private Sub Form_Load() and if that click was on a button that has a event I need to click it again before that event runs. In what event would I put the logic that I am putting in my Load event so that the form is ready immediately perform the next step?

Hello, I recently upgraded to windows 7 because I was just getting tired of Vista. This was yesterday when I upgraded.
Now, I have completed the install and everything seemed to be running fine. I managed to play a game of League of Legends with some friends before I went to bed, to test some differences between the OS. Everything was running fine.
When I went to sleep, I put my laptop in sleep mode as well.

Now, that I have been up for today I have been constantly getting BSOD's as a result of things being downloaded.
For example, whenever Steam updates (which is on startup mainly) I get a BSOD. Also, I uninstalled league of legends and now when I am trying to reinstall it, I get a BSOD, about an hour or so into the download of the game. This also happened once randomly, when I was just in the middle of a skype call with some friends and out of nowhere I get a BSOD.

Here is the situation. I have 2 Toshiba laptops (different owners, different models), both had Windows Live One Care, now removed, and are not infected. The operating systems are Windows Vista SP1 and the other has SP2. Everytime the system needs to elevate permissions, the process requesting hangs and UAC never appears. I can disable UAC in safe mode, which works perfect, but simply just disabling a feature designed to work by default is not an acceptable solution to me. I cannot do a repair install or reinstall of the operating systems either. Has anyone encountered this or possibly have a fix for it?

A:UAC Events cause hanging processes

I take it everyone is as stumped as me on this. Google was NO help at all and just led to dead links or problems not pertaining to my situation.

What do these services do:

AMD External Events Service
AMD Fuel Service
AMD Reservation Manager Service
---

I have searched high and low to no avail.
I'd like to turn them off if it won't break anything, but I can't get any information

TIA!

A:AMD External Events Service?

AMD External Events Service is the AMD/ATI hotkey poller, so if you turn off hotkeys in Catalyst control panel, the service just sits there and won't do anything, so no need to disable it. Also delete the entry for this in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run if it's there. I haven't come across the other two, but maybe they are also to do with your AMD/ATI graphics card and you might trawl through the graphics adapter settings to figure it out.

Edit: Just to add that you don't really need all that CCC stuff and can download simply the display driver here: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...downloads.aspx
Go to the Windows 7 64-bit link and choose the "Individual download" tab, and the display driver is at the top. Maybe then those obscure services will not even be installed.

Hi all,

I have a Dell studio XPS 1640, with windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
I have this problem that My laptop turn on automatically!
I posted my problem in this topic, but didn't find any solutions.
Now I want to know, if there is an application that report me, for example why system turned on, meaning says to me what was it's cause?

Best regards,
Nima

A:An application to report events

Well windows keeps an event log, it can be found in the management console that can be reached by right clicking my computer and choosing manage.
There you can expand event viewer and then windows logs. It will help if you know the exact time the laptop last turned itself on, as there will be a lot of events listed in those various categories.

I can not get a log saved in Events/Windows Logs/Applications.

Have run chkdsk/f from Administrator CMD prompt...chkdsk runs at reboot...but no log is created in Events Viewer as it always had been previously ?

Any ideas on why and/or where the reboot chkdsk/f logs are ?
jpg is after a reboot and running at startuup of chkdsk/f

A:Can not get a chkdsk log in Events Viewer

If the chkdsk is run on a reboot, as it would for a C drive, the results should be under a “wininit” listing in the source column, rather than under chkdsk.

Morning all,

I've got a computer on my domain that does not log the Power-Troubleshooting event ID 1(wake event).  It will log the Kernel-Power event ID 42 (sleep event) reliably every time it sleeps, but it never "wakes up".

Thanks in advance.

My pc is crashing on regular basis, aprox. 3-4 times a day, even more on a bad day.

It will happen at random times, like when gaming, or sometimes when I'm on youtube, or even writing on MSWord!

A:Random BSOD events.

Code:
Host Name: BOIZAO
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Registered Owner: Isaac
Registered Organization:
Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00006
Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable.

Acronis Drive Monitor reports the following event in "Critical Events" section:

Source: Ntfs
Event ID: 130
Cause

This event has been detected in Windows Event Log on your computer.

According to the Acronis Drive Monitor configuration, events like this may indicate increased risk of data loss.

I cannot find solutions, please help.

Ok, run some hard drive tests on the drive mentioned just to be sure.

Quote:

First run chkdsk

START -> type cmd.exe -> Right-click -> run as admin -> type chkdsk /r /f -> Press Y at prompt -> restart computer.

Also to check the drive's physical state run SeaTools

Download SeaTools for DOS from here: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00dd04090aRCRD

Save to a USB drive and then use the BIOS to boot from the USB drive instead of the Hard Drive.

After it has detected the drive, select Basic Tests, then Long Test and let it run.

If SeaTools shows any faults - try to get the drive replaced if possible.

With a 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro system I'm intermittently getting error events like:

The server {BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

Looking further into it the registry says that server is:

C:\Windows\System32\skydrive.exe

Of course, that's called OneDrive now and is so named in the Group Policy Editor so sometime back I enabled the "Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage" entry.

So why is the event log getting these errors still?

Should I have disabled a service as well as editting Group Policy?

More importantly, perhaps, do I even care about this - it seems Microsoft regularly logs "errors" that aren't errors anyway (*), so maybe this, too, is irrelevant to smooth running?

===========

(*) For example, Microsoft has an obscure sentence somewhere on their site (that's why it's obscure - I can't find it!) that says that "SFC" can find errors that AREN'T errors (the "utc" and "telemetry" errors mentioned elsewhere that cannot be fixed by SFC or DISM).

Hi all,

I'm a newbie here, although I have lurked a bit and tried some of the suggested fixes for my recent problems. Sorry if this is a long post but I try to give a full description.

The system:
DELL Vostro 1500 laptop with Vista Business SP2 + all updates; bought Nov 2007 with Vista installed. It has not been re-installed.
Avast free AV running in real time (Windows Defender turned off).
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free version installed, kept up to date and used for weekly scans - not running in real time
PrivateFirewall
Browser: Firefox 3.6.14
The computer is regularly checked and cleaned using CCleaner
I have been running Soluto Beta (Soluto) since last June (without any problem as far as I know).

The problem:

In the last few days (I think it started Monday 28 Feb) my Vista system has started giving me BSOD events 2 or 3 times per day. The system freezes, I get the BSOD but not really enough time to read carefully what the info says.

Action taken so far:

* ChkDsk - no problems reported
* Memory check - no problems reported (twice)
* The C:\ drive had about 10% free space. I've cleared some old files, compressed some photos, generally cleaned up. Now it has 61GB free out of 136GB - and the BSOD still occurs.
* Swapped my Advent wireless mouse for a wired USB mouse (see below)
* Used CCleaner to clean up the Registry and release disk space
* Done a defrag using MyDefrag (MyDefrag v4.3.1)

The problem persists.

I am suspicious about:

Hi Everyone!
I know you'll figure this out by my questions, I'm not what you'd call technically inclined. Despite using a PC daily since 1999, I only know the basics, like email, browsing, streaming media, games, etc. I've always kept everything up-to-date, I run Malwarebytes, CCleaner & my AV program weekly, defrag occasionally & I never visit any questionable sites, nor do I open attachments in emails unless I know the sender. So I guess you can say I'm a cautious, semi-experienced home user with game-playing addiction who knows absolutely nothing about how a PC works. I AM, however, very bright & I can follow detailed instructions, so I know I can do whatever anyone who IS technically-inclined advises me to do, so if you give me instructions, I know I'll finish the task successfully. How's that for a disclaimer!

I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo G585 & I've been having noticeable problems related to viewing streaming media, (I view bald eagle nest cams & keep detailed records for research), & I was told that my router, (a 5 yr. old Belkin 802.11 G), was too old & slow to handle the speed necessary for what I'm doing, especially since I have a broadband connection. I followed their suggestion because it made sense, & I bought & installed a Linksys E2500 'N' Dual Band router & I expected the video streaming to at least triple, (because that's what everyone told me would happen). That was a month ago, & things have deteri... Read more

I am running a Dell Precision M4800 with Windows 7 Pro (Service Pack 1) and my Wireless LAN connection keeps disconnecting. The wireless adapter is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. I only have one wireless network in range and it is set to a Security
Type: WPA-2 Personal and an Encryption Type: AES. My PC is set-up to Auto Connect to my network so every time it disconnects it reconnects very quickly but if I am connected to a VPN it will generally knock me out of that connection.
I have been using Event Viewer to log WLAN-AutoConfig/Operational and the following is a short section of the log that includes the disconnect:

Alright, so here's my problem:
I'm trying to select my own sounds in the sound event settings in windows seven, but when I test the sound, it doesn't play.
All of the default sounds can be used, and I haven't noticed any other sound problems, but it won't let me use my own sounds, even if they are in the .wav format. I've even tried putting them into the media folder and it didn't help.

I think I have an HD realtek soundcard in a Dell Vostro, if that helps.

This is an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium

I purchased this hardware in January of this year
This OS installation is about two weeks old, I have recovered my system about 9 times because of a faulty recovery partition. These issues have been present since day 1 in January.

There are numerous issues, slow downs, lock ups, bsods, and errors that I cannot explain, HP is reluctant to properly fix their error. Can someone with some real expertise help me with these issues! Thank you very much!

These were probably caused by sptd.sys which is part of a virtual drive software package. It needs to be moved

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

My computer keeps getting error messages while trying to go to internet sites like hulu.com, facebook.com, msn.com, etc saying "___ is not working properly, will try to see what is the problem ".  After this kept happening, my speed decreased to a snails pace.  I tried to increase the speed and memory in my PC by deleting all unnecessary files and photos.  I  also scanned my computer for viruses with Avasti Premier and tried a defrag of each drive (could not get defrag to work on the hard drive-"needs optimization" message stays next to  the hard drive item).  Then I checked Event Manager and it showed that I had over 524 events some critical and with warnings.  I again tried to get Windows 10 online to help me address one event at a time by assigning tasks to a few of them.  This happened 2 days ago and I still have these events listed and nothing happened.  Please tell me what can be done that isn't so complicated?  I'm not very computer savvy.
