Large, Extra Large Icons won't load

Q: Large, Extra Large Icons won't load

When viewing large and extra large photo previews, the jpeg thumbnails will not load. Is this a 64 bit issue?

Any Ideas?

A: Large, Extra Large Icons won't load

I can tell you it's not a 64 bit issue as I do not have this problem.
Beyond that, I'll have to defer to another with more expertise in this matter.

If you extract the icons from imageres.dll or shell32.dll then the maximum icon size is about 64x64 and 32x32 for most icons. I am trying to extract the largest icons, where can I get them. or am I just doing it wrong?

First post here on the SevenForums! I'm only saving the tough ones for you guys! Here's the problem:

My client's computer was infected with a virus obtained via Facebook. I removed this and multiple other infections (and I'm pretty thorough with my scanning). She gets it back, starts working on it, and apparently her devices and printers icons are blank. Not missing, like with a "blank page" icon, just... blank. Here's the kicker: it only happens with large and extra large icons. It also happens with normal folder icons. When I change it to medium or lower, they come back. I've tried rebuilding the icon cache database several times, tried sfc /scannow, tried chkdsk, tried uninstalling any recent updates, etc... There have been no hardware changes, the hard drive has been tested as good (no bad sectors), her dual monitors are at a sane resolution, and I'm confident that the viruses has been removed. Trust me -- I've tried all the obvious stuff I can think of. Thanks and Good luck!

Edit: Also, I did about 30 minutes of searching through previous threads. Couldn't find a thing, but I could have missed it...

Well you probably pulled some icon cache files off that were infected but also had the L and XL icons. If sfc didnt work you could try a repair install. It will re-install only the files with different hash marks.

Hello all,

I have been having a seriously frustrating time trying to fix icons displaying in my games folder way too small. Every icon is a custom x256 by x256 icon, and I have seen them all work properly at one point. However, for some reason these icons now appear in their 32x by 32x bit forms, as seen in the attached image.

I have tried everything, including rebuilding and refreshing the icon cache, editing the registry value to x4068 size, only refreshing or rebuilding then restarting, moving the icon files, moving the game shortcuts, so on. All of these shortcuts are offline .exe files, and these icons have taken me a long time to build.

I'm sick and tired of trying to solve it myself, so I've come here for help. The only thing that has worked so far was a Microsoft support file, which fixed the problem until I switched my account to my brothers so he could play, where his icons were broken and when I logged back in so were mine. I haven't been able to find the support file since. I'm very tired of trying to fix this computer, with some malware stuck in there and rooted so I cannot remove it, broken Windows Photo Viewer that won't even launch, general messes. Do you guys have any clue how I can fix my icons?

A:Some Extra Large Icons appear Extra Small

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
We might look into this malware issue first,
Post all scan results for review,
Repeat for all users,
Review Jacee?s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
Instant Savings App
Screen shot of the download button to use for Adwcleaner
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,
Select the drive to scan usually C,
If your really infected check the box to scan for Rootkits = this scan option will take several hours to complete,
Never use your machine while scans are running for best results,
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

You will likely be better served in the security section for this issue,

I've seen multiple posts here and other forums and I have tried all of the steps provided in those posts but it is not resolving my issue. I have the exact same issue as the user in THIS THREAD. I have tried the icon database rebuild (both manually and using the bat file HERE), I have tried ie4uinit.exe - ClearIconCache from command prompt, I have tried Disk Cleanup and checked the box to delete icon cache and I have tried different cache size amounts using the steps HERE. I've tried these all from normal boot and safe mode. I don't know what else to do. The icons that have the problem keep changing every time I restart the PC. I can change them to another icon, rename the icon the shortcut had previously been using and reapply that icon and it shows normal at that time but as soon as I restart the PC, icons change to the smaller size on random shortcuts again. What other steps are there?

Thanks in advance.

A:Multiple icons showing in smallest size when using Extra Large Icons

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Have you tried the batch file in this tutorial:
Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default
It resets the area of the registry that stores some desktop icon info.
warning: read the note about desktoprestore.

You might also want to try combining the batch file for icon cache rebuild with this one... only kill/restart explorer once at the end.

Does this problem happen if you create (& log onto) a new (test) user account?

I have two icons that I want to assign to two folders. Unfortunately, something has gone wrong. Let me explain what happened step by step:

1. I have two folders: "A" and "B".
2. I have two icons (.ico files): "A" and "B".
3. I place icon "A" in folder "A" and icon "B" in folder "B".
4. I assign icon "A" to folder "A" and icon "B" to folder "B".
5. I notice that I've switched the icons around.
6. I move icon "A" to folder "B" and icon "B" to folder "A".
7. I rename icon "A" to "B" and icon "B" to "A".
8. I assign icon "A" to folder "A" and icon "B" to folder "B".
9. I notice that I still get to see the switched-around icons that I assigned in step 4 in the large and extra large icon views. In the smaller views the folder icons are now correct.

Here's what I did to try solve this problem:

- Follow two tutorials: Icon Cache - Rebuild and Default File Associations - Restore in Windows 8 (for .ico files).
- Remove the icon cache using the Disk Cleanup utility.
- Run "sfc /scannow" and "chkdsk /f /r".
- Run CCleaner to cleanup the registry and manually remove some registry keys that I pinpointed by looking for the registry keys that change when I assign an icon to a folder.
- Restart the computer and the "explorer.exe&... Read more

I also wanted larger icons. You can do it in XP ( I have Pro and Service Pack 3 but don't think that makes a difference..).

Go to Control Panel ( Ensure you are in Category View as opposed to Classic View in the Left Hand Pane) >Accessibility Options>Configure Windows to Work for your vision, hearing and mobility needs..

A Wizard will open for you to configure all sorts of things including Icon Size, text size, scroll bar size, cursor size, etc.

Hi there,
I was just wondering is there anyway to edit the size of the icons more than the 'Extra large Icons' maybe a tool or some manual way ?

A:Bigger than 'Extra large Icons' ?

Hello MoeX,

Very good question and this has baffled me; i have done some research for you.

It appears that a icon's Value (size) are in pixels and range from 0x20 (32) to 0x100 (256) with the default being 0x60 (96).
(32) being the smallest, and (256) the "extra Large".

However Microsoft don't allow bigger then 256 Pixels (Extra Large). Bit of a bummer really.
There 3rd party applications available that allow you to view your photos in a bigger view, but not permanent thumbnails.

I'm sure there is a way to make them bigger if you had edited the registry, but i DO NOT recommend this, unless you are 100% sure what you are doing. and have a Back-up and Restore Point.

Hi there, my problem is when I start up in the morning my icons and gadgets are extra large and I mean large, I solve this by right clicking on desktop, click screen resolution (which is also extra large) then click detect. This opens a normal size window and I am good to go. The display is set at (default) 100% and never changes so that isn't the problem. Also this only happens on a cold start up and not if I reboot

I've noticed this on only one of my excel spreadsheets. Sometimes, not always, when I open this file, the bottom row on one of the pages takes up the whole monitor viewing area. If there is- for example- 400 lines of data, the next line down won't have a number on the left. If I highlight this overly tall line and delete it, line 401 is now below line 400. I can't seem to be able to duplicate it at will, it just is there when I open this file. Again, sometimes, but not always, maybe once every 5-6 times I open the file. Thanks.

Can you scroll down to the bottom of this row & possibly drag up the bottom line so it's the same as the others.
Or you could right click on it & adjust the row height to the same as the others.

Make sure you save the spreadsheet after adjusting the row height.

I just reformatted and was messing around with WindowBlinds for awhile so that may be a culprit, but even though I've now uninstalled it, when I am receiving mail in Outlook Express the messages come in large fonts, I mean bigger and darker than what you normally expect. Then when I hover over them or even click on then they go back to normal size.

Hi again. I know some printers can do this. I would like to ask your opinion on

1) which printers are recommended and also,
2) if some software can do this so that a normal inkjet printer will work.

Some printers can take a document, any document being printed, and within the Printer's Properties, transform the 8.5x11 document into something four times as big (17x22), 16 times as big (34x44) or whatever (by area).

It does this by (say for the 17x22 printout) printing each 1/4 section of the original document blown up to a full 8.5x11 page. Thus, these 4 pages (or tiles) can then be pieced together to get a much bigger presentation. I've seen printers that can do this up to about 5 ft high by 4 ft wide (about six 8.5x11 tiles high by five wide). Of course you can print even bigger if the printer can handle legal or 11x17 paper.

Is anyone aware of such printers and can you make any recommendations? Alternatively, is anyone aware of software that can do this same type of task, where a regular color inkjet could be used?

This is for a non-profit organization, so cost would be a factor. Thanks a bunch!

The snipping tool is a wonderful thing. Attaching a picture of what you mean is very helpful.. You can attach a file by using the paper clip after making Snipping tool copy.

For now all I might suggest is to adjust the view settings, or use the Organize option to go to folder options which are both in the "Title Bar" or close anyway

I hope I can explain this properly.

In Windows 7 Professional x64, I have specified the size of icons appearing on my desktop (about half way between 'small' and 'medium'). This works very well and consistently.

However, when I move or copy a file to the desktop via right-click, or when I create a shortcut on the desktop via right-click, Windows creates a large size image of the file icon for me to drag and drop. Not only is the icon itself large, but it includes a substantial amount of space on all four sides of the icon. My file and folder icons in Windows Explorer are not even close to that size.

This causes a problem when I have several Windows open, because in that case I may be moving/copying/shortcut-ting to a relatively small area on my desktop, and the icon I am moving/copying/shortcut-ting doesn't fit into that small space because the icon, including the area around it, is so large. Consequently, Windows moves it to some other place on my desktop, where it finds enough space, and then I have to go looking for the icon.

This problem is particularly annoying when I have several files to move or copy, in which case Windows may scatter the moved/copied icons all over my desktop.

How can I reduce the size of the icon that appears for drag-and-drop, as well as the selected space around it?

A:Copy/Move Uses Large Icons

I suggest you turn off the "align icons to grid" and "auto arrange icons" options, to give you complete 100% control over where you want your desktop icons to live. Windows will not interfere at all.

Right-click on desktop, move the mouse over View to get the flyout, and uncheck these two options.

Note that this won't solve your "large icons" issue when you perhaps would want them to be somewhat smaller. But it will give you 100% control over icon placement and will never see Windows move it somewhere you don't want it to go. Wherever you put it... that's where it will stay, unless YOU drag it somewhere else.

I use Windows XP. I need to start up in safe mode to try to solve a computer problem. Whenever I start up in safe mode the Icons are so large that when I click on the program I need to use the screen is so large I can not see the bottom of the screen to click to the next page. Is there a way for me to reduce the icon size. I tried to make the change in Display but nothing happened. Help.

A:When In The Safe Mode The Icons Are Very Large

change your resolution settings. right click desktop. hit properties. then when the screen comes up go to the settings tab. then you will see a slider bar with your current resolution slide it to the right to increase the resolution and get the icons smaller

We recently purchased a 22" widescreen Samsung EX2220 LCD monitor. Unfortunately the icons and labels on thedesktop and the teston the toolbars, taskbars, drop down menus are too small. I've changed the setting several times (Control Panel -display-Appearance-"Font Size" and all the "advanced" settings.) By doing this the fonts and text gets larger. However, every time we re-boot, all the settings go back to the way they were - small.
Does anyone know how to keep they large after a reboot?
Any help would be appreciated.

A:Can't keep Icons and font size large
do that first, will help anyhow

your issue may be because your graphics can not handle the resolution you are wanting, check your graphics card/motherboard spec with manufacturer to see what max resolution is

When I restarted it some of the large icons were displaying as normal. I tried restarting the PC again but nothing happened, I tried to view all the icons on small and medium then in large and nothing happened. I tried deleting the shortcuts and make them again and still nothing happened. How can I fix this? Here are some pics, sorry for low quality:

I am having similar problems, I followed the steps in my computer and come up with with a few red and some yellow. The red ones show Dhcp, the yellows show User32, Dhcp, Tcpip. They date back to when I went on cable and installed my Linksys router. I have tried clearing my caches, re booting the Linksys, unplugging the modem to let it reboot all N/G the problem exists in both Fire Fox and IE6. I have tried repair connection and get a message that it cannot complete due DNS cache. I have tried with and without the router inline there seems to be little to no difference, my laptop Is also cranky. I have tried to get up on Linksys for some help but can't get around the site as pages will not load. I did have early issues in setting up the 160N, but I think I have that resolved, from trying to set it up several times could it have put to much junk junk some palce on my machine? Hello everyone,
I've been searching tooth and nail all over the internet for how to do this but to no avail. Here's what I want

I want my context menu to have big icons and small text (left) but no matter what I do it's always the default (right) I've tried registry tweaks, and increasing the DPI to around 300 on XP style size increase. It increased the icon size but at a cost all the windows were completely unusable but it showed that there was a value to increase to get that effect... I just haven't found it.

I know it's an oddly specific request but I have this Windows 7 tablet that with this edit be incredibly helpful for Menu navigation. I assume it's a registry tweak somewhere...

A:Need help making large icons in the context menu

Hello and welcome Lucern mate I have tried various things with the the properties etc etc and I am guessing it will have to be a registry change. Have you looked though the tutorials for changing icons sizes?

The only one I can find I tried but mine does not have that up / down control just customise.

Right click in an open space in that area > properties > and pick the Strat menu / customise.

However I found this but did not try it

I have my resolution at 1600x900, my display is at Medium 125%, and my icons are Large. I was just playing something and I went from windowed mode in the game to full screen with just a click. When I returned to the desktop many of the steam game icons had reset to small icons inside a box. It's very strange. I tried to create new shortcuts via steam but they are still the same, small icons inside a box. Not all the games were affected, but most of them. I am just wondering how it happened and how to fix it. I never had this before.

A:Large desktop icons reset with Steam

Sometimes the resolution does not reset itself back to your setting after you played a game in full screen (that has a different resolution).

I am not 100% sure what icons you mean, but it sounds like you mean the desktop icons? You should be able to:
> Right click on your desktop
> Go to 'View >'
> Select 'Large icons'

Hi Qwerty77
Try this:

1) Right click the folder and choose properties.
2) Click on the Customize Tab.
3) Choose Change Icon at the bottom
Pick an icon you want top use for the folder, then click ok.

You may have inadvertently clicked on a "white" space when choosing icons. (It is possible to create invisible folders in that manner, hence the black box.
Try right clicking on your desktop first, and click refresh.

This is actually for a friend and I tried everything I could think of but nothing works. She recently installed WindowBlinds and as she was installing Avast it apparently happened (if this helps)

What happened is the icons in the System Tray, and the Quick Launch icons because the Start menu, and even the icons inside the Start menu have enlarged. They are probably 1.5x the size of the original and are also blurry. The time in the bottom right now includes the date also.

I thought her taskbar was moved up a notch, but it's as low as it can go. So thats not the problem. If you right-click the taskbar when it is unlocked and go to View, you can change the icons from large to small. It's on small. So something else happened.

Any clue what could've happened?

A:Simultaneous large and small desktop icons?

Hi and welcome to the forums!

My first suggestion might be a bit complex but I'll suggest it anyway. This tutorial - Replace Vista's missing Computer desktop icon with a custom gadget on the Windows Sidebar | TechRepublic - details how to create a gadget to launch my computer. Now, this should theoretically work for any application and on windows 7. To could then launch your program through the newly created gadget.

If that is a little bit too difficult there is a program by the company Stardock called fences. Download here: Fences - Windows Desktop Organization Software. This allows you to organise your desktop more efficiently.

Hopefully one of these will solve your issue

I've got a little registry file that I run on all my new installs. One thing I been wanting to add to it is the ability to set the Folder View settings to "Large Icons" for "All Folders". The manual way to do this is...

- Open folder
- Right-Click > View > Large Icons
- Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to Folders

So basically I'm looking for the registry key that I can change to set this via reg file. I've tried digging around in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU & Bags but it looks like those are for all folders. I'm looking for the one specific key/value that windows checks to determine what the folder view should be.

Thanks in advance!

Hello All,
A friend of mine directed me to bleep in a effort to get me to run combofix, after a little reading I felt it is best to follow everyone's recommendation on this site and ask for help, prior to running combofix.
Here is the problem, large/ popular sites (think Google, yahoo, facebook, major news, etc) will not load in any browser (tried Firefox, IE, Chrome)- with these sites I get a continuing "connecting" status until the window eventually times out. With smaller sites (think local news, municipal utilities, etc) the page will load (with a substantial amount of lag), however after navigating a "smaller traffic" site page begins to load slowly, to the point the page times out. Also worth mentioning this error occurs with a strong internet connection via all network types (Wi-Fi & Ethernet) and did not start happening until a recent trip to Indonesia. Prior to my trip to Jakarta (where I used the hotel and customer internet access) I had no issue with the PC, I chalked the browser loading issue being related to a foreign ISP and the fact the country of Indonesia blocks a lot of traffic/ sites. Upon returning to the states the problem persisted. During my time in Indonesia I did not (consciously) download or run anything out of the ordinary.
Here are the details of my PC:
Make: Lenovo 420S
Processor: Intel Core i7 @ 2.80GHz
Operating System: Windows 7, 64bit with SP1 installed

I've just had my system upgraded to MS Windows XP Pro, and had to reinstall all my existing software, but now my MS Excel 2000 will not open a spreadsheet that I used all the time when the OS was MS Windows ME! What happened? I have 512MB of memory, so I do not believe this should cause any limits. The spreadsheet is almost 80MB. My wife uses it to track the day care where she is the coordinator. So it has a master sheet that shows the weekly summary, account balances, payments, and year to date payments, then a separate page for each family showing their activity for the school year.

I have downloaded and installed all "recommended" updates from Microsoft's update site. I need to know if there is a fix, or if I've crossed some invisible line in spreadsheet size, or if I just need to open my pocketbook and upgrade to MS Office 2003 or MS Office XP? (An aside here, What's the difference between MS Office 2003 and MS Office XP?)

A:Excell 2000 will not load large spreadsheets

Have had a lot of experience in that area lately.

80 MB will be a real problem in Excel versions other than 2003. Its borderline in Excel 2002, and probably has exceeded the ability to open reliably in earlier versions.

You need 2003.

Ironically it allows you to keep adding data etc, and closes OK, but once a magic resource limit is reached you can no longer open it.

In versions older than 2003 not all of the RAM will be used either, which limits the ability. Only 2003 gets around this, but still shows problems when sheets get larger than about 150 MB in my experience (it depends a lot as to whats in the sheets though).

The other issue is, that the chances of a file corruption and the loss of data is very high with these large sheets, it's very bad practice to persevere with such methods.
I recommend a re-think on the way its laid out and used, as I see a huge disaster looming if Excel is continued with in this manner.

Now if I cycle through the various views - list, details, tiles, and back to icons - it will generate and display thumbnails ... but with two problems: (1) notice the folder images it just generated appear smaller than they should be, and they are not showing any preview of what's inside the folder.

Whenever I view a folder which contains .MP4 (H264) video files in large icon view (shows thumbnails), Windows 7's Explorer crashes. Explorer loads for a few seconds, the green progress bar shows up, and then boom!, Explorer crashes. The thumbnails are not shown before crashing. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I tried setting Folder options to 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' (disables thumbnails) on the same folder with MP4 (H264) video files and Explorer doesn't crash if the MP4 thumbnails aren't shown. I tried testing in other folders containing other video formats (with 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' set to off) like .AVI/Xvid, without an MP4/H264 file, and Windows Explorer shows the thumbnails fine without crashing.

I have not currently experienced problems with other formats, only MP4/H264. The only media players that I have installed are KMPlayer and VLC Media Player which both do not install external codecs, AFAIK. The only external codec I have installed is CoreAVC, but I have been using CoreAVC for months (KMPlayer+CoreAVC is one of the first things I installed in Windows 7) without any problems (this issue just arose a few days ago).

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.

Note: I prefer a solution that will not end up disabling video thumbnails for MP4 files. I still would like to see MP4 video thumbnails, if possible. If the video files themselves are problematic, I reckon Explorer should not crash and just not show the thumbnails.

Hello! Yes, I'm a newbie and a numpty. This place looks wonderful! I hope you can help me.

Here's what happened: I reinstalled Windows for my sister, who is visually impaired. I just installed Windows XP Pro. Just finished it, and then handed it over to her, to customize her settings. Since she has bad vision, she usually lowers the resolution down to 800x600 and has the font size and title bar sizes larger. Well as soon as I left her alone with her computer, she messed up the windows or icon settings so bad, so everything is HUGE. Everything is so huge, that (what should be) small menus now fill the whole screen. We can't get to the part of the preferences window to change the resolution to something higher, and we can't get to anywhere (that we know of) to change anything back to something resembling normal. Basically, we can't do anything anymore.

I know I can reinstall Windows XP all over again, but since I JUST DID THAT I'd like to avoid having to do it all over again. Is there some way to reset the preferences, without having to reinstall the whole operating system for something so seemingly idiotic? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone.

I'm new here so I hope I'm doing everything the way it is supposed to be done.
For starters I have first used the "Search" function, however this didn't lead me to a solution of my problem.

Some text appears as Extra Large even though Font size (under Appearance) is set to "Normal".

Please have a look at the screenshot (attached) as it is quite hard to describe whats going on.

Important to note is that the installation of "StyleXP" and the applying of the "Panther" Theme has been done AFTER this problem occurred so I don't think there is a relationship there.

The problem is also not limited to the "Epson Scan" program (seen in the screenshot) I just used it as an example.

It often happens in "Program Menus" and "Dropdown lists", and only within the OS, not inside any browsers (Firefox or IE).

The OS works fine except for this issue.
I'd really appreciate any help regarding this problem.

Maybe there is a way to fix this in the registry?

Kind regards and thanks for reading.

This references: Quick Launch Bar: icons don't wrap even though there is room - a post by chillz which discovers a "bug" with the taskbar not resetting the row-sizing for toolbars when dragging the taskbar to the left then back to the bottom.

I, for a while now, have been using a custom quick-launch toolbar on my taskbar with the taskbar being 2 unit-lines in height and having the taskbar on my secondary ( left ) monitor. When I first set this up it showed 3 lines of small icons in the toolbar and up to 2 lines on the standard taskbar. This was perfect because the toolbar didn't reset the order every time I launched an application contrary to how the pinned application system works. With pinned applications, no matter what position I drop the icon, the order always resets and floats from place to place so that system of organizing icons is disgusting because you have apps between icons of apps that aren't running some times and other times the running applications are above and below with or without grouping enabled.

The vertical display would be the ideal way for me to view unlaunched applications ( see aforementioned topic ) because they group together and launched apps come after; in horizontal mode the taskbar is chaotic without a toolbar organizing the apps to one side but then you lose the functionality of the pinned-application system ( if you forfeit usage of that chaotic horizontal system in favor of how the vertical system works but in horizontal mod... Check whether the external drive is formatted NTFS or FAT32. If the drive is FAT32, then the maximum allowed size for files is 4GB. You'll either need to convert the drive to NTFS, or split the AVI file into smaller chunks that fit within the FAT32 4GB boundary.

Try this
Right mouse click on desktop
Select Personalize
When the screen opens look at the lower left hand corner of th escreen
Select Display
Then select 125% and apply
You may have to reboot for it to take effect.

When I go to insert a picture in a certain program the "picture services" window pops up. I go to choose the "icon size" for my photos and it will not remember the selection, "medium icons" for the size of my photos in the selection window. It always reverts back to "large icons". I can only see 2 pictures at a time with "large icons" instead of 8 with "medium icons". No matter which option I choose to view my pictures it always reverts back to "large icons". Does anyone know how to fix this?

A:clicking "insert picture" it always defaults back to "large icons"

"A certain program " is not much help, be more explicit.

I've scanned documents straight into Acrobat before, but have recently had my pc at work and had everything re-installed. Now all files I scan are large. Can anyone suggest why?. We can't email documents we scan.

A:Large PDF

Have you tried reducing pixel depth and graphic resolution in the scanner settings? Have you experimented with different lossy and lossless image compression methods in Acrobat? Are you saving black and white scans as color?

... and it's the font. It seems that all the Internet fonts on my computer are oversized. I belong to a forum where the font size is much larger than usual, and that is one of my most common stops. The Yahoo search page font is much larger than usual. However, on the other accounts on my computer, the fonts are just fine. This is not a problem with anything else like the start menu, it is just Internet fonts. I've looked around and haven't found any settings that might allow me to change the size of Internet fonts. The appearance/settings in properties are all fine, so I don't know what the problem is.

the scroll bar? doesn't budge .. I want everything back to normal, please? any help? =]

Have you set an 'Extra Large' colourscheme in the appearance section? Right click on a blank area of your desktop, select properties, then click the Appearance tab to check.

I ws just wonder, I have a case that has a funnel over the CPU fan and heat sick and disperses air to the outside world. I jsut installed a 7 inch fan (well at l;east i think its seven inches) anyway the case funnel to the CPU blocks most of the large fan, what I am asking, is it better to take the case funnel away and let the big fan remove the air out the back (CPU directly infront front of the fan) or keep the funnel in the case over the cpu fan and heat sink and let the large fan be somewhat useless. I know this is hard to understand but i wasn't sure how else to word it.

A:Large fan or what

Hi all,

I have an old P3 Cel, which is relegated to lesser duties. It has a 40g HDD pinned out to 32g. I would like to use the whole 40g and set up a Linux /GNU partition.

I downloaded a third party BIOS update from WIMS bios page which was reassuringly signed as untested use at own risk.

How do I use the .bin file and can I unflash, should the system crash.

Thanks in advance

A:Old MB large HDD

You need to read your manual or online documentation on your system as to how to flash the bios. Each mfg is a little different on HOW it is done. Yes you can [generally] flash back to an older bos version.

While doing a bios update is not difficult, if it is done incorrectly, you can render your system unbootable. That is why I recommend you first read your manual.

Hi All

I have a bizarre problem on a clients PC - his Dell PC came with XP SP1 but I've got it updated to SP2 and on Auto-Update - Its got a 40GB internal disk. I've added an external 100GB USB2 drive to run backups on - its working fine.

Now the problem is when I try to add a USB Flash Drive - I get a "USB Device Failure" error message ---- the USB Flash Drive works fine in other systems AND works on the Dell if I remove the 100GB USB drive.

The Dell system has a very light USB load with only a HP printer/scanner and the 100GB external drive (being powered by its own supply) so there shouldn't be any USB overcurrent issue.

Some where I've read about XP having issues with large HDs -- any ideas here. To me it really seems like XP is confused

A:Large HD and XP

The only thing that comes to mind here is that the device I/O settings aren't set properly, and there's a conflict there. It might not be this, but I'd check that out.

Does it do the same if the Flash Drive is in, and then you hook up the Hard Drive?
