Can't join *.001 anymore

Q: Can't join *.001 anymore

After a while time, and now I can't run FFSJ: The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner on my Win7 anymore.

Also, It doesn't display on Shell Context Menu too.

I tried to Open With the program and joint but my system doesn't recognize all kind of *.001 ; *__a files. Then I reinstalled that software but it doesn't make sense.

Now I don't know what I need to do to join these files and play in.

P/s: I also downloaded HJSplit ( similar software ) but it seem like my problem.

Can anyone help me fix this problem, please ?!?

A: Can't join *.001 anymore

If they are just a series of compressed archives, extremely popular with torrenting, WinRAR(which I see you have installed), or 7zip should also be able to extract the content back into its original state. Looking at the image you posted, I'd venture a guess that the archive was actually created with 7zip in the first place, judging by the portion of the file name that I can see.
*side note: generally upon creation these files are named in successive order so I'd be curious why you only have one file with a .003 ext which appears to be all alone without its .001 and .002 buddies.

Hi everyone,A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't update AVG anymore. It always gives me an error, telling me the connection with the server failed. I also noticed that I can't connect Limewire (P2P program) anymore and opening movie streams in Windows Media Player doesn't work anymore either.I searched some forums for a solution and I found someone with a similar problem, who also told he couldn't execute the "cmd" and "regedit" commands anymore. I tried it on my own computer and I can't run those things anymore either. When I try executing them, the explorer goes all weird and shuffles the program bars on the task bar.I've manually downloaded the latest updates for AVG, installed them and did a full scan, that didn't find a thing. I also ran AdAware, which said I had some malware, which I removed with it. Then I also ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which found some more malware, so I removed it, rebooted my pc, but the problems still exist...I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem, because it's really anoying...Here's my HijackThis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 20:37:26, on 11/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16827)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\At... Q: hj-join

I have been trying to join files with hj-join
I have put the mpeg files in one directory with the hj-join application and have changed the mpeg files to read something like birthday001.mpeg and then have executed the hj-join application but I cannot get the files joined. Any suggestions? Thank you

May I assume the file was split with HJSplit?

To better answer you, what are you trying to accomplish.

If you are looking to transport large files and using HJSplit and HJJoint. I recommend you look at PKZip and WinZip, they are very reliable. Dan-O

My apologies if there is already a post on this, I did a search first but couldnt find another post on it. I have downloaded some split files, which are part of an application, they are named "phx-cmc2" and have".001" etc up to ".042" there is also a file named the same with a ".sfv" extension. I learnt that I had to use HJ JOIN to connect these files, so I did so. I ended up with a one large file, but one that I still couldnt open, so I decided to rename it with a ".rar" extension in the hope that it would just unrar itself as normal rar files do. This starts to work then comes up with an error message saying "You need to have the following volume to continue extraction" (PHX-CMC2.r00). And thats as far as ive got really, ive tried to burn the file before I turned it into a rar file, using nero, but have had no joy with that either, any help would be appreciated as im a noob with this, cheers.

Q: HJ Join

Hey guys,
This is my first post where I plan to learn a lot about computers on this forum hopefully. I dragged a split file onto my computer by my friend and was told I need something to Join all the files together. The program was Nero 7 and currently it is broken into three files. One named "CD1" contained several little files within. I also have a "CD2" files with many little files within and finally I have keygen. I just want to know how to Install this software onto my computer. He said when he downloaded it, it was the entire program. Any help would be much appreciated such as any program to finish the installations and some possible How To's to actually install this feature. Thankss!!!

A:HJ Join

It's Pirated software, don't bother with it. Even if you do get it working it connects to Nero's server and makes it unusable.

have a mind boggling situation here I have a public domain setup to be accessed from all around the world. the server is win 2000 advanced server with AD domain setup "" with local ip address of & Static configuration. DNS is setup with forwarder to point to our ISP DNS. We have T1 connection with Cisco router & HP switch 80 port gig. The NAT settings were done to allow all ports for the process of DNS from public ip of though the router which handles DHCP for all domains.

with that been said, some of the pcs can join the network when using the public dns ip, but some come back an error "the format of the specified network name is invlaid" (screenshot server_error). some join the domain just fine. However, i was looking at dns & seen "computername.olddomain as a DC" (screenshot server_error_dns)which i was not able to add to domain. that error disappered after restart. I have also seen another computer details in print server prop as TS001-TS005 with the pc name i was trying to add to network. but it says
Port: TS001-TS005
Discription: computername PRN1-PRN5 (screenshot Server_error_prn)
At this point, i guess i should know i'm totally lost & can not even start to think of a reason for this ...

I hope someone can help me.

My organization has over 300 clients. We are now using subnet mark class B This is to make every client to be in the same network.
Recently, I was asked by Head Office to change our IP to 10.236.56.x and 10.236.57.x with subnet mark in order to join Head Office's network.
I understand that if I do that (with subnet mark class C , my network will be devided in to two seperate networks because I have clients more than 255 clients already (that why I am using class B).
So my question is if I have to use class C subnet mark as instructed by Head Office, then I have to have two networks, how to make clients in these two networks still can see each other, can share files, and to have only one domain server, and to have only one email server as my orginal single network?

I heard someone said that I had to use a router to join network. But I still don't understand. I have only one domain server, do I need another domain server for additional network?

Sorry for my knowledge for such network connecting is limited. Please teach me.

Thank you.
Somchin (from Thailand)

A:how to join two networks together

Why not use a gateway to join your entire existing network to the Head Office network? I'd call the folks at Cisco and explain your issue, they can fix you up with the correct component. I think kludging your network to accomplish this task is the wrong way to go about it.

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain"WESTRIVERPERIOD":

An attempt to resolved the DNS name of a domaincontroller in the domain being joint has failed -- and so on.

I have tried everyting I could find on the internet spending 5 hours trying to fix this. I can see the server via the network and I can access folders and files and even make changes. I just can't joint the )@#$)#$ domain. LOL I have also read that a lot of issue with server 2011 essentials are out there.

Hello and welcome to the forums, andrew113,

Have you enabled proper viewing of file extensions in Windows 7?

File Extensions - Hide or Show

Windows 7 hides the file extensions of your files by default on a fresh installation.

Have you also checked the file properties for the Read-only tag? Can you manipulate the file completely? (move it to another drive, copy it, delete it etc.)

If you can't something may be having a lock on it, try using this following program to unlock it:-

I assume you're using either HJSplit or 7zip to merge those .001 - .00x files together?

Hello. I have one computer running 2003 Server and another one running XP (SP2 if that matters). Well when I originally set them up, the client computer was only running XP SP1. When I first installed Server 2003, I was able to join my client computer with no problems. As time passed, the OS on my client got corrupted. So I reinstalled XP (fresh install, reformat and all....), upgraded to SP2 and when I try to rejoin, I keep getting an error message "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain name"; The specified server cannot perform the requested operation."

So I'm disabled my firewall on the client (Comodo), made sure I removed the original instance of the client from AD and even rebooted the server. All it does of the server side is shows the client name under the domain computer with a red "X" on it. I've tried removing the X and attempting to join again. No luck. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to use the JOIN function to concatinate a series of values with a pipe (|) in between each value, then write the entire string to a cell.

Here is what I have so far...
Sub JoinValues()
Dim MyArray As Variant, NewStr As String
MyArray = Sheet2.Range("B4:B7").Value
NewStr = Join(MyArray, "|")
End Sub

The values in the range are strings, although some appear as numbers.
B4 = 50551254897
B5 = AU12358
B6 = AC50513
B7 = 41339

I want the sub to return a string that would be:

In it's current form, I am receiving an "invalid procedure call or argument" though through various tweaks, I've managed to receive a "type mismatch" error as well.

Eventually, I'll have a varying number of values within a defined range, but I think I could handle that part if I could get this simple version to work.

Thank you,

Its not that easy but let me tell you the basics -

Properties of my computer/Computer name/click change/ click workgroup and type in the workgroup name.

THis unjoins you from the domain the main things to think about are this -

1) your profile information will not be remembered so you have to run F.A.S.T in order to get all the information beforehand. 2) ALSO if this is a company PC pulling it off the domain can make it so when you get into work you won't have access. 3) As well you have to have administrator rights to pull it off the domain.

hi can anyone help? i have down loaded HJSPLIT and tried to join video files but when i click on join only folders show in the browse window and not the video files. it cannot locate the files saved in the directory. what is happening?

sounds like it is looking for a different file extension than what the files you have saved are. in the window that you browse for the file look at the bottom of that screen. there should be a pull down arrow that says file type or something like that. the file type it is looking for should already be in there(.mov, .mpeg, .avi) click on the arrow to pull down the menu and see if you can select ALL FILE TYPES. that should show you all the files in that directory. it may be that the program will only open certain files and that it won't be able to open the file type you have those saved as.

A:Win 7 can not join domain

Hi hartanto,

I just succesfully joined 4 laptops with Windows 7 to my domain. 3 of my domain controllers are running Win2k3 R2, and one is Win2k8. I didn't encounter any issues. The only issue I found was with printer drivers not working with windows 7.

It sounds like you have an underlying network connectivity problem. Is your laptop on the very same LAN as the domain controller? If not, you won't be able to join a new computer remotely to a domain while it's not on the same LAN.

I have two computers: Dell Inspiron Laptop connected wirelessly and a Desktop with wired connection to router. I have been trying for 4 hours to connect to the homegroup with my desktop so I can view the files on my desktop on my laptop. Now I will detail the steps I have done.

1. I tried going to network sharing in control panel on the desktop. I created a new Homegroup and it gave me a password. I then went to the control panel on my laptop and went to network sharing and then went to homegroups. Now from my reading, I should have an option that says "join homegroup". I do not have that option, only "create Homegroup".

2. I have tried going to the folder I want to share on the desktop. Still cant find it on my laptop.

3. Removed AVG. Still cant join.

Thanks in advance

A:Cannot join Homegroup

Welcome to SevenForums, kbussen.

Instead of using Homegroup, try switching all the machines to the same Workgroup.

(There seem to be a lot of problems with Homegroup use, mainly they seem related to IPv6.)

From an earlier posting I made:

I set them all in the same Workgroup by going to Control Panel (set to view small icons) System -> Advanced System Settings -> System Name. There change the Workgroup name to be the same for all computers.

In Network and Sharing -> Advanced Sharing Options click the top option for all but the bottom two. Turn off Password Protected Sharing and under Homegroup Connections set "Use User Accounts and Passwords to connect to other computers."

On the systems, set up the shared folders and permissions you need.

Hello all...

I just installed build 7000 and I'm having issues connecting to my domain at work. I cannot setup my Outlook account either because my network exchange server is NT4 based.

I have tried setting up my account via Outlook and via the "Mail" portion of Control Panel to no avail...

Any workarounds that anyone can spare?

A:Cannot Join NT4 Domain

Did it work on the previous build you were using? I know that it's a huge pain to get a NT4 machine onto a 2k3+ domain. I've never tried using a newer machine to join a domain older than the client (except for XP clients to a 2k domain). Also, to get Vista to join a NT4 domain, you have to lower the security requirements. Another way around that I used in XP when it wouldn't play nice was to, instead of changing the PC's friendly name, I would go to the Network ID button and run thru the wizard. If it atleast finds the DC, then the wizard should work every time.

Quote from Joining NT Domain
"Under Local Policies > Security Options

Change the value of "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level"
from "NTVLM2 responses only" to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security
if negotiated"

Note that I last tried this with build 5384. Newer builds may need a
different fix.

I've checked my router to insure the mac address and the ip address are the same as identified in "ipconfig /all" for my laptop and it is, the router is seeing my laptop. For some reason my laptop will not configure homegroup with my desktop. I don't know if the version of windows makes a difference, I'm running Win 10 pro on both but the version and build are different. My Desktop is version 1607 (build 14393.51) and my laptop is version 151 (build 10586.545). I'm lost. Can anyone give me some idea what might be going on and how to fix it? Thanks for your help in advance

I've seen that others are having problems similar to mine. This brings a certain peace to my life.

Problem: I'm unable to join my computers to a homegroup. The problem exists in both directions. If either one has a homegroup, the other cannot see it. When I go to network and sharing center, I can see the option: "HomeGroup: Ready to Create" but I do not see an option to join. If a homegroup exists on the computer, I see "joined".

Current Configuration:
PC (home grown AMD Athlon)
Laptop (Dell Latitude E5500).

administrator account on both computers, same password
user account on both computers, same password

Network Configuration: Verizon FIOS Router/WAP combo. Laptop is using cable to connect. Wireless is currently turned off on laptop.
Both computers are in the same "workgroup". Both computers are set to "Home network".

1. Unable to see homegroup on network in order to join it.

2: in network status, in the map at the top of the screen, on the PC it is called "Network" and on the laptop it is the same name as my SSID.

3: from time to time, as I'm troubleshooting, I observe that the link between my network icon and the internet icon, within the status map, shows a red X, and "connections" will only show "local", and yet I'm still able to surf the internet.

Troubleshooting steps taken:
1. chose "leave the homegroup" on the PC and create it on Laptop. fail.

Hey i think im having a similar problem to you. I originally had homegroup working fine on our network. But then one computer lost the homegroup and was unable to reconnect.

I tried to leave the original homegroup but now i just have the option to join it and when i try it says a homegroup cannot be created on this computer. 0x80632094 - error code.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (like how do you get rid of an old homegroup no-one is joined to or can join).

I have created a new Windows 2003 SP2 Domain and have been transfering users from the old domain to the new one..

All Computers are running Windows XP.. Most have XP Professional, but 3 are XP Home.

The XP Home users I know cannot join a domain and they are fine.

I had completed about 5 users and now when I try and remove the user form the old and join the new one I get the following error..

"Specified Server Cannot perform the requested operation"

Microsoft knowledge base gives me this

I am only running TCP/IP and am not sure if it is bound properly.

How can I tell?

I have been having other issues between the old and new domain since creating it..

My ultimate goal is to remove the old domain totally and just have the new one.

The old domain is currently the DHCP,DNS, and WINS server for the network..

Could this issue be caused by not having DHCP, DNS, or WINS configured properly?

I will be working on this tomorrow and could use all the help I can get..

Thanks in advance for any help...

A:Cannot join a Domain

Unjoin those old machines from the domain, run newsid, and then try a rejoin.

What is the scope of the DHCP server on the new domain? Enough addresses available?

They state that lag does not need to be accepted and it can be destroyed with teamwork. The site is small now, but I'm sure there are plenty with lag problems here that would love the oppertunity to make a difference in some way...

Perhaps if large enough this site could even influence isps...

Are you logged onto the PC as the local Administrator account?

Do you have sufficient authority to add a computer to the domain. Are you apart of the domain admins group. When it asks you for the username and password you need a user that is apart of the domain admins group. Enter the username and password of a user that has enough right to create computer accounts in the domain (for example - a Domain Admin group member). If a computer account was already established in the domain then you can enter any username and password of any valid user (for example - your own domain username and password).

Can this be done easily?

A:How to join a domain via VPN

Hi Crabrc,

Welcome to Seven Forums,

I'm sure this will depend on the permissions and configuration of the servers but in theory, if the user is connected to the VPN then you should have remote access to the machine (providing this enabled on their machine) you should then be able just add it to the domain as you would normally.

You may have to put the fully qualified domain name in but it should work, I haven't had any issues doing that.

You may need a host entry to resolve the domain name.

I've read several posts about this already but nothing has helped. I recently upgraded my vista desktop so I could use HomeGroup with my laptop. Both computers are now running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. At the moment, they are both plugged into my Belkin Play N600 Wireless Dual band N router.

Here's what's going on:

-I can create a HomeGroup from either computer but neither computer can join it
-When I run the troubleshooter, on either computer, it keeps telling me "All Homegroup computers must have the correct time," however, both computers do have the correct time and time zone (I even tried synching both w/ the internet time).
-I tried recreating and joining HomeGroup w/ all firewalls disabled... nothing.
-I tried recreating and joining HomeGroup w/ my antivirus software disabled... and then uninstalled... nothing.
-I tried reinstalling my router firmware and reconfiguring the router based on what a tech told me... nothing.
-I've made sure all the necessary services are running, that IPv6 is enabled, and that all the advanced sharing settings are correct... nothing.
-I've verified that both computers are on the same network and it's set as "home"... still NOTHING!

I've spent wayyyyy too much time trying to figure this stupid thing out . So, if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know OR, if you know a different way to access files through the network (other than Homegroup or public folders), I am ready to look into other optio... Read more

hi i am sure some one with a lot more knowledge will be along however i remember reading some where that if your passwords are the same it could cause a problem, maybe you could try a work group instead.
As for the time issue check that your bios time setting and the desktop time's are the same it may pay to check that the router time is correct.

Hi. I am trying to set up a PHP/MySQL backend for a webpage that will display scientific abstracts. The datasets will be small, so performance is not a big issue here - I'm trying to offload the content maintenance onto the content provider, so I don't have to keep cleaning up his ugly MS Word files to post the content.

I've got two tables: author, and abstract

author has columns that include name and id
abstract has columns that include authorList, which is a comma-delimited set of id numbers corresponding to Here is an example:

I want to print from my laptop that connected to my home wi-fi network.

I've setup the desktop with a homegroup, grabbed the password, and tried to join the network on 2 laptops. Both failed.

"Windows cannot set up a homegroup on this computer" was the result on both of them. I ran the troubleshooter, but it didn't found anything that I can do (it did found "undefined network problems" with the network troubleshooter).

How can I know what's the reason those 2 lap's cannot join the HomeGroup?

I have a new laptop and have been unable to join my HomeGroup.

My network:
Desktop running Win 8 Pro (wired net connection)
Desktop running Win XP Home (wired net connection)
second Desktop running Win XP Home (wifi network connection)
I have just added a Win 8 basic laptop (wifi network connection)

There is a HomeGroup set up on the Win 8 Pro system.

The network for the Win 8 Pro & Win XP systems all work perfectly.

However, I can't get networking to work between the Win 8 Pro and the Win 8 Laptop.
The network between the Laptop and Win XP machines works perfectly.

I followed the instructions in the thread:
Homegroup - Join in Windows 8

When I attempt to join the HomeGroup from the laptop, I get an unhelpful error message:
-When setting it up from the Settings menu, I get "Windows can't set up a homegroup on this computer"
-When I attempt to join from the Control Panel, I get "Homegroup encountered an error"

I ran the Homegroup troubleshooter on both machines with no success.

HELP! What else can I do?

A:Can't Join Homegroup

This problem comes up pretty often but it's usually easy to fix just by removing all files in the Peer Networking folder. In your case this would be your Windows 8 Pro machine but also check the Windows 8 laptop.

The link below describes the process in more detail and shows a picture of the PeerNetworking folder. You must also go into folder options and click the "show hidden file and folders" so you can see the AppData folder.

One of 32bits was an upgrade from Vista and the two others were clean installs. I created the homegroup on the 64bit machine and I was able to join the homegroup from one of the 32bit(clean install) machines. However, the other 32bit machine is able to see the homegroup but cannot join. Based on the various thread on forum here is some additional piece of infromation on the machine that cannot connect:
1) I removed Norton 360 from the machine. It is now running Microsoft Security Essentails just like the other two machines. Created the homegroup times 3 after removing Norton 360 ver 4, with no luck.
2) I can see teh other two machines over the Network and even share resources(not through the homegroup)
3) Connects to network wirelessly
4) Has a fixed IP address.

I have done all the recommeded troubleshooting synchronizing time, Network Type is "Home", Network Discovery is on etc.

Please advice.

Hi. I would like to know if it's possible to join two VGA cables if yes then how?.. But the wire coding is different. . Thanks in advance.

A:Join Two VGA cables

What do you mean by "join" and "wire coding"? Are you trying two splice together two cables that have a VGA connector on only one end, into one longer cable and the individual wires in the cables are of different colors?

If so, there are no standards that I know of for color coding the individual wires in a VGA cable, You would first need to use an ohmmeter or continuity checker to determine the color of the wire associated with each contact. Then splice together each wire with matching pin numbers. The wires for pin # 1, 2, and 3 are usually coaxial and you would need to make sure to splice together the center conductors and their outer shields.

Reformatting the hard drive will put the computer in the same condition it was in the day it was shipped from the factory, which will solve your problem. Or you could go deeper and wipe it clean with 3 wipes of wiping software which is what the Department of Defense does when they get rid of computers. There is free wiping software available, but I have no experience with them. I know 1 is called Derricks Boot and Nook (DBAN) and I've heard good things about it. I personally use paid versions: Wipe Drive and Acronis True Image 11. Just be sure you have all the software for the operating system and all the discs for the programs that are in your computer and be sure to backup all your files before reformatting or wiping your computer because reformatting and wiping your drive will delete everything.

Hello, i have recently got a brand new machine and have updated from windows xp to windows 7. I have been trying to join the homegroup set up on my parents computer so i can access the printer. My computer is connected to my wired router before going into a ethernet connector in my wall and that then joins the modem. I am using norton internet security and so is my parents computer.

When my computer is plugged into the router and i go into 'trust control' in norton, my router shows up as full trust, but no other computers show up and when i try joining homegroups none show up. But when i plug my computer into the wall bypassing my router, norton shows all the computers on the network and lets me join the homegroup. So to summarise, i cant join homegroups when i am connected to my router, but i can join when i dont use the router.

Any help please?

Have a look at this Windows HomeGroup troubleshooting guide and see if it helps:

If this fails, tell use what model router you have.

So my mediacenter-PC (Windows 8.1) in my living room was the main computer where i created a homegroup. I had all my other PC's connected to it. no problem. Not until i updated my personal myname-PC to Windows 10 (clean install) now it doesn't want to connect to the homegroup anymore. So i decided to leave the homegroup in my mediacenter-PC, and start a new one. However, from now on, trying to join the homegroup with myname-PC, with the password i was given does not join, it says cannot join.

So i decide to again my mediacenter-PC leave the homegroup, i do, and behold apparently, the homegroup still exists. The weird thing is it says join Steve Harold mediacenter-PC homegroup (this is showing on the same computer i created that very same homegroup)

So the computer where i created the homegroup which i had left, is asking me to join its own homegroup. Can anyone help me, been trying to fix this for two days and can't do it.

A:PC where Homegroup is/was created asking me to join

That is because you need to recreate the Homegroup.

I am having problems setting up a Homegroup which I would like to do so that I can use one external hard drive for backing up data etc from two Windows 8 computers. Although I am still running a third desktop with Windows Vista, I will remove that computer once all is up and running on the two Windows 8 computers as I realize Vista cannot join the Homegroup. The following is the computer information and troubleshooting steps done so far:

Currently running three desktop computers:

Windows VISTA Home Premium SP2
Computer Name: Shark
Workgroup: Workgroup

Windows 8
Computer Name: DRB-ASUS
Workgroup: Workgroup

Windows 8 64-bit
Computer Name: SAM-ASUS
Workgroup: Workgroup

Computers are currently networked through a router/modem.

Both Windows 8 computers are able to create a Homegroup, but no matter which computer creates the Homegroup, the other Windows 8 computer is unable to see the Homegroup and therefore cannot join it, even though neither computer is asleep nor hibernating. There is no error message, just the information that there is no Homegroup available to be joined.

Both computers networks are configured as Private Network.

Computer clocks are synchronized on all computers.

All computers are connected by Ethernet rather than wireless.

Sharing: On both Windows 8 computers, the following sharing is configured ? Private has network discovery turned on with automatic setup of network connected devices ticked; file and printer ... Read more

A:Unable to join HomeGroup

Hello Sam, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Unfortunately, only PCs running Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 are able to create or join a homegroup together. Vista will not be able to join.

For the Windows 8 PCs, double check through the items listed in the tutorials below to see if it may help.

Yes, have been joining machines to AD domains for 10 years, 2K , XP, Vista, 7, have always used the short domain name to join. Have been joining machines to NT domains & before that OS/2 LAN Server since ~1991.

(ie for example, domain is CONTOSO.COM then you can join the domain CONTOSO and it figures out it is CONTOSO.COM)

All WINS, DNS, AD Controller IP numbers and names are the same between a 7 machine and this 8 machine.
But 8 WILL NOT join the domain by just giving it CONTOSO, it has to have CONTOSO.COM to join. What's with that?

Anyone know how I make Windows 8 join by giving it CONTOSO?

Hey, I wasn't sure whether to put this under games or networking. I've been trying to play a PC game (total annihilation for those of you who remember it) however, my computer can't ever see the hosted game. I have a feeling it has to do with the network. I'm quite frustrated. I'm positive I'm using the right IP address and following the right steps because I did the same thing at my friends and it worked. If any one could help I'd be extremely happy. Thanks!

Hey everyone!

So I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bits on my computer.

When I go in the control panel, to create a homegroup, it asks me what I want to share, then I click on next, and it says it won't create a homegroup because I need to have Internet Protocol V6 (IPv6) activated.

So I went to the network and sharing center, in the CP, change adapter settings, right-clicked on my connection, clicked on properties, and, yes, IPv6 was on.
So I tried again and it still won't work. I tried turning it off, trying it again then turning it back on again, nothing. I updated my driver for the Ethernet, still won't work.

So I tried creating a homegroup on another computer, it worked, but I can't join on my computer for same reason.

Anyone have this problem?

Haven't heard of that problem but you dont have to use homegroup to network. You can use workgroup. That would also avoid the IPv6 problem because workgroup doesn't need it and workgroup is easier to share.

Hope this helps

Hi guys,

I'm having issues joining a remote PC to the corporate domain.
The VPN we're using is SonicWall.

Here's what the error is:

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The domain name "creatormail" might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.

If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "creatormail":

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.creatormail

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:

Does a window pop up asking for admin credentials when you attempt to join the domain? If it does put in domain\Administrator and then password. I think there are some other things that need to be set up on the VPN end for passthrough authentication if I remember correctly.

I am finding it impossible to get my new Vista HP laptop to network (via a wired router - no wireless here) with the other three XP machines on the network. I would like to transfer my settings and data from two of the XP machines to the new Vista laptop, but none of the XP's can see the Vista, and the Vista seems to think it's the only one in the sandbox.

So far I've renamed the XP network group to "Workgroup" in hopes that the Vista machine would see the others, but no luck. The XP's still see each other, but not the new kid on the block - and the new kid is still as myopic as ever.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do to get everyone to play nicely together?

Hi mord,

You could setup a free email account via the web at any number of websites: Yahoo, Google, etc., e.g. just join and create a member name (like mord) and a unique password for your account at Yahoo. Google has Gmail accounts - I don't know about them.

You can then use the webmail account for you at that website by just logging in there.

I'm trying to connect 3 computers - 1 desktop and 2 laptops - all Windows 7 Professional x64.
Desktop wired, laptops - wireless, same router, home network...
Windows Homegroup is working well between the desktop and one of the laptops.
The other laptop can join the homegroup, but ... "No other homegroup computers are currently available".
Anyway other computers and shared folders are visible under Network folder.
Other machines can see each other in the HomeGroup, but this laptop is missing.
I have shared Libraries on every machine.

After hours of investigations I found that when joining homegroup from this laptop, Homegroupuser$ is not created in Control Panel/Administrative tools/Computer management/Local Users and Groups/User.
Also in Control Panel/Credential Manager/Windows Credentials there are no any items like in the other machines (Credentials like MACHINE_NAME\Homegroupuser$)
No third party firewall.
Microsoft Security Essentials - Engine Version: 1.1.9302.0
Windows Firewall - Homegroup allowed.
services - HomeGroup Listener, HomeGroup Provider, Peer Name Resolution Protocol, Peer Networking Grouping and Peer Networking Identity Manager - started, though in Manual mode.
This laptop can create Homegroup and other machines can join it, but the situation is getting worse - no one can see any other machine.
HomeGroup troubleshooter can not see any problems.
I'm considering missing Homegroupuser$ is the problem in my case.
Pls help.

I have created a homegroup on one computer, but on the other computer I cant join it, it says "There is no homegroup on the network". I have tried every suggestion from Why can't I create a homegroup? . What else can I do? Both of the computers are behind a switch. Below is a picture of the network map from network and sharing center.

A:Cant join homegroup from other computer?

Hello Borut, and welcome to Sevenforums

Go into network and sharing center, and on the far left, click "Change advanced sharing settings".
Make sure Network discovery, file and printer sharing, and "Allow windows to manage homegroup connections" are all turned on (you may want to turn on public folder sharing as well).

Additionally, go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Homegroup and make sure you have selected the things you are willing to share. You can also view the password in this page if you are the host, or you can start the homegroup troubleshooter. Now follow this picture to get to the homegroup join page:

If you still can't, restart the computer and try again. Failing that, update your computer. Failing that, you have a deeper problem.

Is there a software I use and how do I use it?

Or... would it work if I stuck a WindowsXP disc in, got to the part with the partitions and just delete one of them so it combines, and then drag the files ive backed up from the deleted partition onto the other part (whole part).

I just connected my Toshiba Satellite L675 wirelessly to my new modem gateway (include router), Motorola SURFboard SBG6580. The laptop has Win 7 Home Premium. My desktop (Win 7 Ultimate) is connected via Ethernet cable to the modem gateway. Both can access the Internet.

I set up a Home local network from the desktop, with a password. Both computers show Homegroup in the Control Panel.

When I click on the laptop Homegroup icon, and then on Join, and I add the password, I get "Incorrect password". The password is *correct*.

What can I do to get around this problem? Thank you in advance for help.
