Can I set explorer columns for data directory within music library

Q: Can I set explorer columns for data directory within music library

As an example, The Itunes directory is in My Music. My Music is in a Music library, so the file details in explorer include album, #, etc. Within Itunes is the Apps directory and other data where "album name" doesn't make sense. I want it to display as a non-music directory. There doesn't seem to be any way to set the default columns displayed in a directory within a Music Library without changing how all the directories are displayed. Nor does there seem to be a way to remove a Music Library sub-directory from being considered as a Music Library member.

I am trying to delete some music in the library but explorer just freezes up and takes up 90% of my cpu while doing this

the green bar never finishes

and the files never get deleted
after I end explorer from the task manager, dllhost.exe takes up 25% of my cpu also
even just opening the music library takes up a lot of cpu and I was wondering what this was and how can I delete these files

I started out with the two previous posts about macros (post 1, post 2) that move rows into columns, but I'm having a little trouble getting it to work for what I need. First, I'm trying to do a data merge into Word, but in order to get the data merge to work/look the way I want it to, I need the XLS data to be in columns.

I'm attaching an example file that has one worksheet of the sample data (though my "real" data has about 300 rows) and the other worksheet is an example of the outcome I need.

Is there anyway I can do what I need? Exporting into another file or another worksheet within this file would be fine.

Not being that experienced, I'm a little confused w/ the way the Library sorts CDs into genres vs the way I could sort the Music Folders. They don't seem to relate. For example, the Library lists an album under "Rock" that I would like to move to another genre but I cannot figure a way to do this. On the other hand, I know I could play around w/ the folders so that this particular CD is in the right place. However, I'm not sure that if I take the time to organize my Music folders whether this will have any impact on how the Library sorts them.
If you can shed some light on this I'd sure appreciate it.

A:Solved: Windows media music library vs music folders

Mp3 music files have tags that are kept inside the files themselves. The most common ones are Artist, Album, Track Title, Track Number, Release Year and Genre. When you put a file into the WMP library, the tags are read and stored, along with the file location.

So the tag data is what shows up in the WMP library and you can sort on various fields depending on which version you have. But the files can be put anywhere and named anyway you like. Most people use a certain naming convention like Artist-TrackNumber-Title.

If you want to sort the folders by genre you could do that, but you'll have to do it manually. You can do some manipulating of folders and filenames with tag editors. If you want to give that a try get Mp3Tag.

I have data that repeats hundreds of times. I am trying to put each string of data on 1 line.

After the data is moved to one line I would like to delete the lines that previously housed the information. The company# can be deleted. I have never worked with macros. I would appreciate any help given.

I recently migrated to Windows 8. My music collection stumbled along the way and I had to re-fetch artwork for a few albums in WMP. I also set it up in iTunes. My default app for MP3s is WMP. As you can see below, artwork only appears when in the folder view (which somewhat defeats the purpose of libraries in the first place). I'd prefer to sort them by artist, with album art displayed without a folder, as it should and as it did in Windows 7.

Art appears in folder view but not artist or album view.

On a related note, I recently added many new MP3s to my collection. When I opened Xbox Music for the first time afterwards, it seemed to be downloading art to add it to my older albums, all of which have art. Then the process was somehow interrupted. I believe I closed the app. Then, when I opened it again, none of them had art.

I would very much appreciate your help!

Hello. I'm not sure where to post this question.
I'm feeling kind of silly to ask this question, but after weeks of trying myself, I am frustrated...
I am so confused about Libraries and my Directory.
(If that is what it's called)
My desktop is not where it used to be and my downloads too. For some reason, it is in documents and pictures etc...when I try and drag it out and put it where it used to be, it won't go there. It wants to link to favorites. To access Desktop now I have to go into my pictures and it's making me nuts for 2 weeks now. I don't know what I did.
How do I get it back to how it was originally -between Favorites and Libraries???
Can someone tell me how to fix this mess please.

Hi all,

Basically I'm wondering if there is some way to modify the order of the columns in newly created folders optimized for music. The default order is:
Name > # > Title > Contributing Artists > Album.

I'd prefer it if was:
# > Title > Name > Contributing Artists > Album

I know this can be done on an manual and therefore small scale, but I have a large music library and would like the files within the music folder automatically sorted by track number with that column preference. Like maybe if there was a way to apply the column preference to the My Music folder and all subfolders.

I would like to permanently change the columns in my music folder to add bit rate and length. I have many folders. I'd like to do it all at once if possible. All my music is on an external drive so I don't know if they will remain permanently when I remove drive but is this even possible?

I would like to add a Network Directory to a Library. I've come across this link although I couldn't understand the following:

Create a local folder in the C:\Users\username\ directory. This can be named anything you want, so long as it is a valid directory name.
Add that folder into the library. Open the library from the menu bar, then click on the Includes: # locations link at the top. Click the Add button on the right side and select the folder you just created.
Delete the local folder that you created. DO NOT remove it from the library.

I first create a local folder in /Users/username then I add a folder library and I click on includes, when I click the Add button the indexing option occurs ! I get thrown off track at the last set of instructions which are to delete the local folder that I've created. I can't get to that stage because the networked folder needs to be indexed and the point of this technique is to not have to index the drive

On the same page there is this program, it appears it wipes out your previous libraries which you've created, which is why I'm skeptical to use it. I'm hoping someone can help me get one or the other to work or has another solution to this ?

Before Windows XP, My Documents was situated in the WINDOWS \ Desktop "folder".

In Windows XP, My Documents was no longer inside the WINDOWS \ Desktop "folder" even though it could be shown on the Desktop. It was relocated to be inside Documents & Settings \ (user name keyed in), and it took me a while to figure where it was located back then.

Now in Windows 7, My Documents has once again been relocated to be inside Users \ (user name keyed in). It can still be shown on the desktop and can also be shown in My Library.

My question isn't so much so about the My Documents folder but rather the My Libraries folder. Without the "up to higher-level directory" button (which was available in Windows XP), it's a rather difficult task to find the destination folder in which the My Libraries folder resides in. Does anyone know where it is located in?

On a sidenote, does anyone know how I can enable the "up to higher-level directory" button, which was available in Windows XP?

Alright so I have 2 workbooks lets say "workbooka" and "workbookb" they both contain the same column header "asset #". Workbooka has a list with no duplicates and is listed as column D. While Workbookb has a couple duplicates and is in column F. I wanted to be able to pull the information from workbookb into workbooka for only the "asset #" that match. Because of the duplicates however I have been running into a problem. Looking for input that does not involve a macros or add-in.

Just a general question, In music library upper right corner it says folder with a drop down arrow and under the drop down are choices of album,artist,song,genre,rating when clicking on one of those nothing happends. Also when sharing my music alot of my songs are locked. I've tried select all/ share and tried doing them individually, neither work. Any ideas?

I have imported sales data in excel. The information lists in along two rows with mutliple columns. I need the information to be in one row under various headings. I have attached a link to a sample to explain this properly. I think I need to use a macro but I don't understand enough about them to make it work.

When you right click on the webpage and select "View source" from the context menu - do you see the info of interest; I don't. If the info were there, you could use InetGet. They know the value of the info being presented and they probably want to discourage automated data mining.

I'm trying to find a way to delete some data from a column, say column A. The numbers to be deleted are in another column, column B. Is there a way to have excel remove from column A, those numbers that appear in column B? It would require some way to compare, but I can't figure out if excel has this capability. If the columns were small, we could do this manually, but the data set is huge, with several thousand numbers.

I've been at this for what seems forever so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I want to compare data from one sheet to another and for any exceptions (non matches) I want it to copy and paste the entire row into a 3rd sheet.

I've searched and found various codes about comparing columns, but my need seems to be a little more complex. I want it to compare 2 columns on sheet 1 (columns A & B) against 2 columns on sheet 2 (columns C & D) and it does not what row they are in. I also would like the sheet name to be included in the results.

I've attached a sample book with the data. Sheet3 shows what data should generate from this code.

These would be the results because the names (both first and last) do not appear on both sheets. I dont have a lot of experience with code so any help would be great.

I have a really big problem in excel that I don't know how to do it.
In my workbook, I have 4 imported columns from txt files. They are located in: Z, AA, AB and AC.
• Z & AA contain the first and last name. This can't contain any numbers.
• AB & AC contain the arrival/departure hours. This can't contain any words.

The list of names is made as the folowing:
• the unique names always start from the top
• the dupplicated names always start after the unique list.

There can't be more than two instances of the same name and the list is contiguous. Based on that, I need to find only the dupplicated names that have one arrival and one departure hour in cells AB and AC. So, the first matched name should have AC blank and the dupplicate will have AB blank. I will concatenate the names if it's easier to do the macro but I'd rather not because the workbook itself is packed with loads of formulas and it's really making it difficult to calculate.
An example has been attached containg the expected result. The workbook has 57 sheets and they all use the same reference: Z, AA, AB and AC from row 17 and down.

I have 60,000 music tracks (5,000 CDs) stored on a Windows 7 machine that I use as a home server. I have mapped the folder where these are all stored as Z:\ drive on my Windows 8.1 (32 bit) tablet.

I tried using WMP as my music library player, but after 3 days of scanning the collection, the computer crashed because WMP had filled the C: drive with album-cover artwork, and STILL wasn't done scanning everything.

I read that the Win 8.1 MUSIC (the app formerly known as Zune I guess) app 'handles large collections' so I told it to look at my mapped dive Z:\ for music but it's not looking, not finding anything. NOTHING is showing in the library. Opening Z:\ in Exlorer, I can see all the subfolders and the music therein, but the MUSIC app is not bothering to look.

I've read that using a network share to store tracks for MUSIC requires that the folder with the tracks be mapped as a drive and that it be included in the Windows Search indexing schema. As far as I can tell, only Windows 8.1 PRO allows indexing of network files, and I just have 8.1 standard.

Anyway- is there some command to tell the MUSIC app to RESCAN it's music storage locations?

First of all: Using WMP for music collections is a bad Idea. It's ui is rubbish. But what's more it also messes up the media folders. It creats thounsands of cryptically named copies of the albums art files, it stores them hidden and marks them as system files and in some cases it even converts a ordinary folder.jpg file into a hidden system file. Get some decent media player like Winamp, Media Monkey or even VLC player.

So, I don't really understand Xbox Music. After a clean install of Windows 8, I opened Xbox Music, clicked on My Music. It showed 106 albums, none of which are mine as far as I can tell. Later I added my music drive to the Music library, but it still shows the same 106 albums. I have over 22,000 songs; none of them show up in Xbox Music. Very confusing.

recently installed itunes and it decided to convert most of my library to aac, whatever that is. The problem is my music folder has pretty much doubled in size and is taking up 7gb when it should be about 4. is there any way to find and remove the duplicate files?

I recently imported almost 3000 mp3 files into WMP and created a playlist with almost 500 songs. This took several hours to do. Now when I open WMP, it's empty! No playlist, no audio files anywhere. Anybody have any ideas?

Did you save the playlist. Logical thing to do if your making a large list. This happened to me a few times with Winzip with a Playlist of about 400 Songs. Luckily i saved my playlist after i add about 10 new songs to it.

This is driving me insane.

I am running WMP11 on Windows XP Home with 1Gb of memory and an immense amount of free space on my hard drive, in case that matters.

Originally all my music was displayed in the library with all the album art etc. However I had to re-install Windows and ever since then I have never been able to get WMP11 to add all the music to the library that was, after all, there before. It adds some folder but not others yet they had all been added before my re-install.

I have tried the uninstal of WMP11, Windows Media Format 11 Runtime and Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0 and deleted all Media Player Folders etc, re-installed WMP11 and it STILL will not add the files as it did originally.

If I add the folders individually it will add the mp3 files to the library but I have hundreds of folders and adding them individually would take forever.

I have also followed all the suggestions for rebuilding the database again without success.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get WMP11 to once again add ALL my music to the library??

So, my itunes library is almost perfected for my needs and includes all the music i want on my computer. however, when i go to my music folder from start, it's really disorganized and i can't stand it. i just want to know if there is a program or something that i can download that will organize my music, not just create another library and play it. the thing is, when i fixed my itunes library, i changed the artist, album, artwork etc. , but not on the original file. i want to keep all that junk too. basically, i just want it all organized. i'm really bad at describing my problem, sorry! anybody help! thanks!

Hey, if you bring up your iTunes and click on the advanced menu, then choose Consolidate Library, this will copy your files into your designated itunes folder under the directory artist/album. Also the files will be copied and not moved, so after you bring order to the chaos so to speak, you can delete your originals. And iTunes will recognise the change in directory so you wont have to re-add your library!

Music library and mp3 player

I know that If you rip an original CD track to MP3 @ 192 kbps, and then for whatever reason, decide to compress that MP3 even further - say to 128, that would result in some loss of quality.

But Building a music library, I am ripping everything on 192, and downloading on 192 too. But then with my future mp3 player, having music on 192 format, that doesn?t allow to store a lot in the player!!!
So thought I could compress a bit more, and the quality ? yes the quality will be lower but then, you want good quality, you don?t use a mp3 player but a normal stereo!!! Am I right or wrong?

But then, the days of cd are counted, so we still need to put music on digital format for the future, so what quality audio to use?
Stay with mp3?
Or go with some other format like apple or wma from window media player
Or some new recent one, but may be not compatible with my new mp3 player? and meaning I have to re-rip all my audio again!!!

Then, technology will be there and there will be no need of compression!!!
And then the web will be access from everywhere, and we wont have our own computer but subscribing monthly to some web site to use and listen the music and for every thing else?.

So, I am getting so confused and lost? my question is what you do today and what do you recommend!!!

Here are my thoughts about this:No#1. Let today be today. If your music is .mp3, then keep it that way. Don't get tricked into the hype of what tomorrow may be like. You may not see tomorrow. Just keep doing as you're doing, and forget about the Jones'No#2. No one knows what tomorrow may bring, and since music isn't important as to being prepared for tomorrow, I wouldn't even think about it. If you need more room to store your files, then invest into another hard drive, and dedicate it to just your music.Your bitrate quality will really get disturbed if you went to a very low bitate, compared to it's original format/bitrate. And again, if your music sounds good to you, and you like it, leave it be. Don't go making projects out of things you really don't want to be wasting your time on. And yes, I know, the higher the bitrate, the larger the file size. It's your move now... so what are you going to do? I say just get more hard drive/storage space, and you'll nip it in the bud..wma formats, I always convert them to .mp3.Windows Media Player? If you're gonna use it (I see no reason why you would), just be aware that by default it is set to protect your music you rip using it. What that means is that your music is protected and it's virtually held hostage on your computer. Burning it from there won't work either. hello i have some short of a strange problem here. my wmp's library started o act strange many songs artists and album names suddenly were renamed after one artist well it's not a big thing tho it's anoying and confuses me. so i dont wrealy know if this is fault of wmp ore something else but i only use a media player for my music and movies. i checked for viruses ore mallware nothing was found. maybe anyone could help me with this issue?

I’m hoping there is a formula within EXCEL that will allow me to complete this comparison. I’ve been working on it all day manually and realize it will take a long time to complete this way.
My computer is running on Windows 7 Home Premium and my EXCEL is 2010
I have two different files and within each are three columns of data that I need to compare. They’re labeled NC, NCI, and SECNCI
To be considered a “match” I need all three fields within a row to match exactly to a row within the other file. The first file called REQUEST NET FILE has over 37000 rows of data so naturally there will be many repeats of these same three fields in that file, but each row where the three fields match any row of data on the second file called DEPLOYED TABLE FILE needs to be the same to be considered a match.
If it doesn’t match, if possible, I’d also like to know why. This could fall into two different scenarios.
NCI/SECNCI combo not on deployed table for this NC
Once complete, I’ll run the same process in reverse so both files will end up with a match or no match next to each row.
If I need to run two separate compares, one to get the match, and then one on just the “no match” results to find the second bit of info, I can do that. Or if the second criteria can’t be found via excel formula, just the “match” “no match” result will be acceptable, as that will save me so much time.

Hi - I'm semi-proficient with excel, and I'm actually working on creating some dashboard reports at this time.

One problem I'm having is separating some of the data from a specific column. Let me give you an example:

This column has over 2600 lines, this is just a sample. What I need to do is break this column out by month, and show how many dates are from the last month, the last 2-3 months and the ones that are 3+ months in the past. Of course I want the sheet to show this info automatically, so it has to know the current date which I can do by placing the formula "=TODAY()".

So, what I'm asking for is what formula (and format) would I use to count how many cells in this column fall into each of date ranges I mentioned.

Also, I did manage to use the =DAYS360(A6,C9) (for example) where A6= "=Today()" and C9= "9/10/2009 13:19" above. This information is in cells next to the above data as follows:

-13 -16 -57 -3 -3 -4 -3 -3 -4 -3 -3 -3 -3 -3 -52 -3

So I figured out how to list how many days I have since the date in the first column, but not how to break them apart within the column.

On the attached spreadsheet, I need a total count of baselined desktops (minus the ones that have been deleted) problem is how do I get it to look at one record, mark that that agent had been a baselined one, but is now deleted, so don't count it. I can't just remove the deleted ones, cause I want my customer to know which agents have disappeared. Take a look at the formula in B2 for a general idea. That formula doesn't work cause it just adds everything together. I need it to be smart enough to Total the Baselined Agents and then Subtract the agents that are baselined and deleted per field. Any questions let me know. Look at B2 to get an idea and see if I'm on the right track.

I have data organised in paris of columns with differing amounts of data in each column pair.
I need to move all data to columns A&B:

- If there is data in columns C & D, move it to the foot of columns A&B.
- Then, if there is data in columns E & F, move it to the foot of columns A&B.
- Etc. til the end of the ActiveRange.

I've managed to do this using hard-coded column references, but it involves a lot of reptetition.
Presumably the code can be substantially compacted, and work to the end of the ActiveRange rather than to arbitrary end columns (in this case, cols AC and AD).

I have data in columns - starting A2 - P2 (and another set of data from A3-P3)

I have various formulae using that data, starting in A20-A40.

I wish to include the second 'row' of data (the A3-P3) into a second set of formulas from B20-B40.

Filling 'right' doesn't work, because, if the formula in the A column is something as simple as "=A2+C2+D2", when I fill right, the formula in the B column is "=B2+D2+E2" - when I NEED it to read "=A3+C3+D3"

I realize there is probably a simple workaround for this - in fact, I COULD just rekey the formula...the reasons I don't are 1) the formulas are more elaborate than I listed, 2) there will be many more rows of data (at least 15 more) - so, rekeying the formula for EACH row of data would be time-consuming and 3) it will eventually move the formulas off the same 'visible area' as the data (I'm currently combatting that by having the panes frozen).

Is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to get done?

Hi all,

I am using the below formula (that I found on this forum) to calculate the age based on a DOB. I now want to create a formula for the next column to have either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ if the age is above a certain value.

If this is possible, is it then possible if I have two ages in separate columns to generate a ‘Yes’ if either of the age’s are above the specified Value?

I have a large excel file (3k= rows) of name/addr info. I want to transpose the date so information appears in its own column for sorting, etc. The problem is the data is not consistant. (sometimes there is two address enteries, sometimes three. In another record there may be two phone numbers. So each company may have six or seven rows of info. The only consistancy is that the company name is in bold. I've tried to attach a sample file so you can see what my task is. I'm not real good with Excel, so treat me like a dumy; it's OK.

It would require a formula which searches through a whole column for certain names, e.g. "Donna", and then returns the value of another column in the same row where it found "Donna"; the value, again, is not in a column directly adjacent to the column where "Donna" would be found.
This is fairly identical to problem (A), except that the search string would be unique (only 1 result), and it doesn't have to take into account (and disregard) if the string was found in the same row of the FORMULA (the search column would be in a different worksheet from the FORMULA worksheet).

What I would like to do is enter information in Col B and then do a comparison of both A and B, letting me know if something in Col B is not in Col A and also is something in Col A not in Col B.

You should make a new folder on your D drive and name it whatever you want. (ex. My Music) Then put you music in that folder as opposed to just leaving it on D: (the root) Then you can RIGHT click the folder and select "send to" and then "to Desktop as a shortcut" Then drag the new shortcut to the START button. Then when you click on My Music, it will go to that new folder with your music in it. That is one of about 1000 ways to do it. Play around a bit.

Just got my new HP dv9220us with Vista Home Premium. Never tried media center before. I have always been an iTunes fan when it comes to my music library (about 90gigs worth).

Thought I'd give the Media Center a try since I never used it before. When viewing my music in the media center music library, a lot of the album art is not displayed, and a lot of my albums have some of their tracks split like they are part of 2 separate albums. I am assuming this has something to do with some of the tags.....maybe? I use Mp3tag to edit the tags on all my music, then when importing to iTunes I use iTunes to edit some of the other least populat tags (composers, etc.) A lot of my album art I use iTunes to "find" the album artwork when importing. When iTunes does this, does it add the artwork to the tags, or is it just for iTunes purposes (which might explain some of the missing artwork on media center). Also, if I want to update or change my tags for any reason after media center has added it to it's library, how can I get media center to "update" particular music and albums to reflect the changes??

OK, to sum up....

1. What is the easiest way to get my missing album artwork to display in media center?

2. How can get my "stray" tracks back in their original albums so they won't show as a whole separate album?

3. How do I "update" my media center library if I make changes?

One feature I like with WMP (Windows Media Player) and Windows Media Center is that they have the options to automatically search online and replace incorrect information with your songs, artists, etc. at the same time finding missing information (ie: album cover) however this feature has to be turned on. Help anybody? My operating system is Windows 10 and I am using the latest iTunes version, 12.3.2; the problem I've encountered is that with some CDs, when I download them into iTunes and call up the downloaded file, only one or two of the tracks are shown in black whilst the rest are greyed out. This doesn't prevent the greyed out tracks being played in iTunes, but if I try and burn those tracks to make a compilation CD, they wont burn. There is no such problem with the tracks shown in black (on the same CD). I've tried re-downloading the CD, but it makes no difference. Any ideas how to resolve this problem gratefully received.

hey guys, i have recently been given a laptop, i removed vista and did a clean install of windows 7 ultimate. since then i have made a 30gb partition on the hard drive and have installed windows 8 as a dual boot. i would like to be able to use my music library from the music app within windows 8, is there any way to link the music to the partition so windows 8 can read it from windows 7? Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this one. Got a new PC, and I'm having some trouble with iTunes finding my music library. Both machines were/are running Windows XP (well, the old machine was running home edition, new one is running Pro, not that it probably matters), and the latest version of iTunes. I followed the steps on the Apple website for transferring the music and library (, the only difference being I used a portable HDD rather than my iPod. I've gone through this process before a couple of times when I've had to format my hard drive for whatever reason, and I've never had an issue until now. I copied the iTunes folder over the the My Music folder like normal, so the library files should all be correct. Install iTunes, and sure enough, my library shows up just like normal. Only problem is iTunes can't seem to locate the mp3 files themselves properly anymore. Here's what I think is happening: On my old PC, the iTunes library files were stored in My Documents\My Music like normal, however due to lack of hard drive space, I stored the actual mp3 files on a different hard drive in the machine (in this case, d:\mp3). This worked fine when I formatted that machine because iTunes was still pointed to the same hard drive for the music files, as nothing changed on that hard drive when I formatted the primary drive with Windows on it. A:Transferring iTunes music library to new PC

Delete your iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml from the computer with the problem and then re-add the music. They are normally stored in the My Music\iTunes folder but I don't know where they would be stored on your machine. It sounds like you copied the library files over from the computer with all your music on the C drive so the new computer will look for the files on the C drive. The only way to stop this is to delete the library and have it re-find the songs.

yea I am trying to make a list of my music library which is setup so that 1 folder=1 album so I am trying to take these 500 folders or whatever and somehow copy just the name of it to something like word, or excel or I can make a list of them to send to other people, print or whatever...I tried to copy and paste them to word, excel, wordpad, notepad, and I just tried to click and drag them to those programs but no luck...and yes I realize I could type them all out but that's a little too much like work... here's an example of how I have this all set up

I am trying to use the Xbox music application on my PC to be ablet o get access to my music on my windows phone.

Windows is run off of my SSD (C:\) and my music library is on one of my other drives (E:\). I have added the folder that contains my music to the Xbox app, but it still tells me that "Its Lonely" and I should add some music. I have also changed the "Music" folder to default to my E: drive

OK I think I have a new problem.
I couldn’t add new music to my library and tried the direction on this site to move/delete WMP database files.
This works fine and I could then add more music …
problem solved but only temporariliy.
Once MP11 rebuilt my library, the problem returned.
So every time I want to add new music, I have to dump the old library database files and rebuild.
This is a problem as it takes three days to rebuild as I have a large music libary.
Any Ideas? Could it be because my library is too big?
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, I recently did a check for registry errors after upgrading my hard disk and reinstalling Windows 7 and all of my programs. It found over 1000 which are now fixed.

However since doing this I can no longer access my libraries.
I am faced with, in both my Computer and in the start menu where the libraries should be, the name of the library followed by '.library-ms' as well as the blank page icon when you hover over them (please see the attached file).

Some how this file extension has disassociated itself from whatever program it is supposed to open with.

Does anyone know:

a: What program it needs to be associated with,
b: If it is possible to fix and
c: How to fix it.

Any and all help will be appreciated; thank you in advance for your help.

I got a ZUNE MP3 player as a gift and I installed the software to download music. Something I am wondering is if the ZUNE software installed in my PC takes control of all the music I have already stored. Some of this music I got as an-mail attachment and now since I got this ZUNE software it seems i can not use it anymore lets say to burn a cd. Can someone explain me why ? Im having a problem with Windows 7 RC1. I have all my music on an external drive that i keep plugged into my computer. i added the music folder on my external to the music library in windows 7. whenever i open windows media player it always has to reload my music, which takes a few minutes. My brother just downloaded a bunch of mp3s into my Music folder in my new laptop. I recently bought a 5.5 gen Video iPod and decided to include all these new songs in it. By dragging and dropping them into the iTunes library, they all went in.

That´s what I thought! When I saw the Library list, it was much shorter! I tried to manually drag-and-drop specific mp3s that hadn´t been copied onto the Library list. The ¨plus sign¨ icon indicating a file is being included showed up, but the file is not in there.

I have checked the properties in these files and they are the same as others in the Library, why are they not going thru?

I’m looking for a way to catalogue all my music cds. What I need is a program that will look up the album so I don’t have to type anything, be able to organize it, and add the album art to ‘my music’ folder. I also want to be able to load my mp3 player (a recent birthday gift) from my music collection. I’m not interested in a radio function or purchasing music downloads. Anyone have any suggestions besides Music Match which I presently use the basic version. Music Match was recently purchased by Yahoo and from what I hear it’s a real downgrade. Also, I prefer if it were free shareware.
Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. There is one player that I’ve found but as I’m not technical I don’t understand half the bells and whistles. If anyone would know if this would suit my situation you can read about it here -

Also, what is winamp. I know it has something to do with MP3 players but is it also a library? If it has radio can I get am stations too? I like talk radio but don’t always have time to listen to it. I would love to be able to upload programs to listen at my convenience. Thanks for any info.

I am having a problem where no matter what I do, Windows Media Player 12 gives me a "there are no items in your music library"! there is no option to add anything anywhere! when I google the message, it tell me to go to "organize<manage libraries<music" the first 4 results in Google says to do that, the rest of Google is just spam.
the problem is when I go to organize<manage libraries<music, nothing happens! I need to sync music to my Sansa Fuse+ but cannot because of this problem! please help!
EDIT: I want to also mention that the "library" link/tab is grayed out in WMP12. deleting the appdata did not help! other than that Google full of spam

The "library" is not even a real's just a virtual location that doesn't have any content unless someone chooses to place "files" there by having them imported to that location.  In reality...all that happens (IMO) is that a pointer/shortcut is placed there which points to the real file location and allows it to be accessed/played.
I don't even use it on my Win 7 install, preferring to use other players (which do the same thing as WMP without all the unnecessary trash).
If WMP doesn't give you the option to "import" files into the library...try another player and sync your files with it.
To find the real locations of your music can use a tool like Everything Search Engine - and use the generic file extension (e.g. *.mp3) to find all .mp3 files.

Windows 8 metro Music app just does not display my music.

I then tried to delete them from my media player and then get a warning that media player can not find files. and it will not give me an option to delete.....What to do next? My sister just bought one of these (Eposn P-2000 picture viewer and MP3 player).
I have an iPod and when I want to add songs I just connect to my computer and it launches iTunes.
My sister seems to think she can just add MP3's one at a time. She hasn't set up a music library. I told her when you have 100's of song files it makes sense to put them in a library like Windows Media PLayer or iTunes. I don't think the P-2000 supports iTunes. No one has been able to describe this and trying to find a fix on the internet is proving to be impossible (at least through Google).

Basically, I'm playing music and all of a sudden it stops. I click the player and it's not responding for a few seconds and then goes to a new song. If I happen to have it on top of all the other windows I see the media player cycling through a bunch of songs and then it starts playing one. I say 'media player' becuase I have tried WMP, VLC, Songbird, and WinAmp, but they all do the same thing.

I can go back and play through the song it just skipped through just fine. So if Metallica - Enter Sandman skips and I go back to play the song, it plays through just fine.

This is completely random, however I have noticed it tends to happen more after 20mins-1hour of being asleep/shut down a while. Then it's even more random to the point where I may not even have the problem. It seems to be doing it more often now though so I'm getting worried / more annoyed.

I thought maybe it was my hard drive cause it's happened a couple times while watching anime (the video just stops and goes to the beginning). This has only happened within the last 2 weeks though. So I switched to my library on an external hard drive but it still happens on there. So then I tried installing songbird on my 2nd hard drive and playing it on there. Enhancements disabled did not work.

I had a video on the 2nd hard drive playing as well as the audio. When it happened, both VLC and WMP failed. However, it finally logged an application error in the Event Viewer with this error for VLC (it force closed basically):

We have a survey package which is great, but it out puts the questions numbers over the columns and each new row is a response, however our calculations are setup for the question numbers to be the rows and the responses are the columns. Is there any way to swap these values around in this fashion? Thanks for any help

Hi, This is a fab site, just spent a good few hours reading through without realising the time!
ANyway, I am stuck on an Excel problem.

I have two columns, of which there are lots of duplicates in column A, and various values in column B:

Like this:

A. B.

Book Title 1. Song One
Book Title 1. Song Two
Book Title 1. Song THree
Book Title 2. Song One
Book TItle 2. Song Two
Book Title 2. Song Three
Book TItle 2. Song Four

and so on, for 339334 rows.

What I would like to do is have all of the relevant info from column B in just one cell, in one row, rather than a separate row for each song title.

So what I ideally need is:

A. B.
Book Title One. Song One, Song Two, Song Three
Book Title Two. Song One, Song Two, Song Three, Song Four

and so on. I have no idea where to begin with this. I have read several similar things that might help, but the problem is that each 'Book Title' has a different number of songs in it.

Can any one advise a complete beginner on how I might accomplish this?

Anybody ever encountered this situation or have any ideas?

One of our users has a multi-tab Excel (vers. 2002, SP3) workbook with several columns containing pricing and taxes on products we handle. When she prepares to print the worksheet, she hides some of the middle columns so that only the data in the first and last columns will print out. The issue is, as soon as she unhides the hidden columns, certain data fields get wiped out... deleted. Then, she has to retype them. There are no macros or VBA scripts programmed in this workbook, and no wierd formulas I've seen that would potentially do this. Is this possibly an Excel bug???

I have a database which has about 60000 rows and 3 columns.
Here I have made a picture to show what exactly I want, this picture represent a general view of my data structure and also represent what I want.

I have 3 first columns (from left) and I want to create a new column like the last one which named New Text.
As you see I want to create a column which duplicate the Text of every row for X times. And X is the frequency of repeated number in Number ID 2.

For example: In Number ID 2, 8 repeated four times. So New Text should have four H. (H represent the text)

Please consider this to be done by Microsoft Access software, which I have no experience of working with.

I was hoping somone could please help me out.

I have an excel spread sheet with a lot of data in columns which i need to convert into rows. The problem is one column contains over 10,000 rows of data... thus making it too hard to transpose manually.

I have attached a copy of the spreadsheet (condensed version) and was hoping someone had some suggestions on how i can achieve my desired outcome.

I'm sorry to say that this is pretty much impossible as far as I can tell because there simply isn't enough consistency in your layout. If all rows were there and in order it would be easy enough.
As they aren't, one would need to inspect the titles to put them in the right place, but your titles don't always match either. For example your second "Telephone" entry is actually titled "Clinic Mobile", which the computer justly sees as very different indeed.
I'll try to help if I can, but you'll need some point of consistency if you want computers to automate a process. If it helps, here's a copy of my spreadsheet that inspects the titles (on sheet 2). If there are only a few problematic titles it might be easier to correct them manually (or use search and replace).

..... and I want to convert the lot to 2 decimal place numbers.

Excel has several methods, but none seem to work for conversion in bulk. Working on futher cells from a suitably formatted one does not work.

Is the only way to solve my problem to manually enter the numbers elsewhere, clear the original cells, and then cut and paste back to the original cells?

Hi all,
I have a spreadsheet that holds sports results based on age groups.

The age groups are in one column stored as U6B, U6G, U7B, U7G...U17B, U17G (which is the age + B or G boy/girl)
The results are in another column stored as whole numbers

I am trying to find a formula that will allow me to sort on the first column (in the order shown above), and then on the second column in descending order, and then bring back the other data like the name.

Child A U15B 1000
Child B U6G 500
Child C U6B 700
Child D U6G 900
Child E U7G 800

would be returned as

U6B Child C 700
U6G Child D 900
U6G Child B 500
U7G Child E 800
U15B Child A 1000

I know I can use a manual sort but I was hoping to automatically put the results in a separate sheet in the correct order.

You could easily enter in this formula:
(where the three data columns are just A, B, and C) so that you get - instead of U6B, for instance - U06B. This allows you to sort correctly by age.
If you want it copied and sorted to another page like that, you really need a macro/VBA.

I am trying to build a spreadsheet that allows me to enter data (steel angle) by individual leg sizes and thicknesses that automatically references the correct weight per foot so I no longer have to look it up in a book. I have loaded the data and built the template, but I cannot get a formula to work that will search my array of data that has repeating data in all the columns, but where all the data in one row has a unique weight. I have tried several commands, and I feel like I need a nested command, but I do not have the knowledge to get it done properly. I have attached the file: Angle Database. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

I've been going through this thread and its been a lot of help. I've now come across a problem that i cant find the solution to and im hoping someone can help me out.

I have a file that contains two columns of data in MS Excel and one value in the first column corresponds to a value in the second column. For example -

Column 1 Column 2
A1 X
A1 X
B2 Y
A1 X
B2 Y

What I have to do is find if there are any mismatches in the data for example an X corresponding to B2 instead of A1 or vice versa (or any other value instead of X and Y in the second column for that matter). I would need a message saying there are a particular number of errors and the rows in error should be highlighted. I DONT need the corrections just need to see where the mismatches are.

Im pretty new to Macros and VB, so please bear with me , but i do understand the basics and ive done some programming before.

I&#8217;m trying to work out how I can look at one column in a spreadsheet and display the text in another field but without a load of blank cells in the results column. Let me give you an example.

On Sheet1
In column A are road names
In column B the number of building on that road
In column C the last date and work was doneon the road
In Column D is an =IF formula thatbasically gives a result of 1, 2, 3 or 4.
On another sheet I want four lists

Sheet 2
In column A is a list of road names thathave a value of 1 in Sheet1 column D
In column B is a list of road names thathave a value of 2 in Sheet1 column D
In column C is a list of road names thathave a value of 3 in Sheet1 column D
In column D is a list of road names thathave a value of 4 in Sheet1 column D

I can do this with a simple IF statement in columns A,B,C & D on sheet2 and drag it down but there are a couple of problems with this method.
1, If the value in sheet1 doesn&#8217;t match I get a blank cell on sheet2 (as there should be) but this leaves a large number of cells with no value. I need a list in each column A,B,C & D onsheet2 without any blank cells.
2, I&#8217;m going to be pasting different data into columns A,B & D on sheet 1 a number of times and the number of rows in will be different each time.

I remember seeing something before thatinvolved using the IF and COUNTIF function in a formula but not sure how.
Any help would be appreciated

Hello Guys,

I'm having various problems with my Playlists on my computer with a recent fresh install of Windows 8 pro, I put all my albums into playlists and I use the playlists to select which music to play (this is because I have lots of individual tracks etc.), everything works as it should do in desktop Windows Media Player. When I open the Metro music app in Windows 8 my playlist are all over the place, sometimes there's too many, sometimes too few, sometimes they play and sometimes they don't, some are duplicated and some are missing etc.etc. All my Music and playlists are stored in the My Music library as it default too.

I had about 100 too many playlists and some were duplicated twice so tonight I bit the bullet and I deleted all the Playlists from Metro Music player, I then imported my playlists using a right click, there is now the correct amount of playlists but some are named incorrectly. For example say I have a play list called Abba - Gold, Music app now calls it Abba - Gold (2) , if I attempt to rename it to Abba - Gold it tells me "That one's there already, try a different name".
This only affects some playlists, it seems as though the one's with a bracket and a number 2 after the playlist with the same name already exist but it is not shown. I also edited a playlist in WMP desktop tonight and I had to use the import playlist feature again to update the playlist in the Music app and now that playlist has a number 2 next to it as well.

I've noticed that the music library always shows folders (not files) first when ordering by date (created/modified). In Vista, files can be shown first, which I prefer since I can see my most recent music files. So my question is... is it possible to change this, to display files and then folders (as in Vista)?

Update: it happens in all the libraries, not only in the music one. However in the computer explorer it doesn't, I mean, files appear in the first place.

Alright, I've been putting this off for at least a month because I'm dreading the whole process.

I've got a 6GB mini and when I connect it to my computer an error message pops up. I've figured out that I have to restore my iPod and update it, which will erase ALL the music from it. Not so bad, right? Except for the fact that I have less than half of my 365 songs on my computer. (To make the computer run more efficently, I delete old songs that I don't listen to frequently.)

The iPod runs fine, but I can't upload any songs on it until I can fix the problem. I've heard of several different hacks to take music off an iPod, but I need something free. Any reccomentdations? I tried doing one using WinAmp, but it seems that WinAmp didn't download correctly and it wouldn't install. (I'll be happy to try again if that's the only way.)

Hi all,

Winamp's being... temperamental, to say the least.
I have a music library of ~2000 songs which I want to get it to sync to my MP3 player. It recognizes that my player is connected to my PC just fine, but when I tell it to sync all 2000 songs in one shot the program freezes and crashes.
I really do NOT want to have to sit at my PC for hours and sync my music library 50 songs at a time. Is there a workaround for this problem or am I just going to have to bite the bullet?

I have all of my players set to stream media over the internet and locally. When I first start up WMP12, and click on my office computer's library, all of my music shows up (I have around 200 gigs of music). I can play one song fine. However, when I click the Artist's tab again to get back to my music, everything has changed to "unknown artist" and I cannot access my music. If I refresh the library, the only music that shows up are my artists that start with a # or the letter a. I have this same problem on my two computers that are locally shared on my network, as well as my laptop which is sharing remotely. Has anyone ever experienced this problem before? If so, is there a work around?

The reason I am using the shared library (under other libraries) instead of using each players internal library of the shared music library is because my Office computer (where all of my music is stored) has been edited to reflect all of the correct information (artist, album, song, genre, etc). I would rather not spend hours on each computers WMP12 editing all of this information to match my office computer's WMP. I have also tried metadatabackup to try and make each player's data the same, but it doesn't work on shared network players unfortunately.

I have a large digital music collection of about 5,000 songs. I just recently switched from a Windows Computer to a Mac. I transfered the files to the Mac and converted them to AAC - which promptly lost approximately 1,500 songs (I still have the Windows backups).

The library has become quite cumbersome to keep organized. iTunes does not provide an adequately easy interface to manage large amounts of somewhat unorganized files and I am looking for something more powerful.

A quick search online showed me several programs for Windows, but I wasn't able to find anything for Mac OS X. Does anybody have any suggestions for how I might organize this library?

A friend asked me to help out what I thought was a bit of a "silly" request when I came across an error I've never seen and can't seem to get around. In MM, I try to delete certain selections from his library (and I've tried several different selections) and I get the error:

"ERROR: Database fetch (mim:database:Track: <a very long bunch of letters and #'s>) = FAILED"

I haven't tried to delete the entire library b/c he wants to keep at least half of what he's got.

Anyone? Help!

What version of MM and does he have MM Plus? The first thing I would try is to rebuild the database. The only things that he'll lose are:

Play Count
Date Last Played
Date Last Modified
Date Added to Library
Date Last Burned
Last Burned To

Custom 1

Custom 3

Everything else will be rebuilt from the tags.

I'm having a small cosmetic issue with my library.

I'm attaching a snapshot that illustrates my issue the best way.

My Music folder has some field where it shoes C:\Users\Robert Norgren and that's what I'd like the hide. The section is not present for other libraries (Pictures/Videos/Documents).

In the default libraries there is a corresponding public folder of each library e.g. Documents/public documents, Pictures/public pictures etc...

But the only library showing the public folder is the music library. Why is this and how can I make it not show without removing the public music folder?

underneath where it says music library (the title of the folder) it says 'includes 2 locations'. click that and then remove the public folder from there.
The public folder will still exist, it just wont be included in the music library.

I'm running Windows 10 (upgraded) on a HP Pavilion 23

I have some file in my music library which are incorrectly labeled (Wrong artist or wrong album etc) and I am not able to edit the information, only re-name the song.

On the "home" tab the edit option is there, but not accessible.

If I choose Properties>details>Remove Properties and Personal Information>Remove the Following...
I can click to remove the bad info, but it does not apply it to the file. (the info remains attached)

Is the only way to fix this re-ripping/ downloading the file?
