Documents Library: show full paths

Q: Documents Library: show full paths

I am going through the library to make sure the files it contains are all in the correct folders. I have set Explorer to show full paths, yet when I open the library the file names are still shown as before.

Is there any way the full path can be made imediately visible without need to go to Properties?

It would make the process much quicker.

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Can you post an image to show us what you mean by "shown as before"?

Hi,
We are stuck for the time being using Window Media Player to Rip/Burn/Sync music with. I've set the paths for the ripped music and library to go to a separate partition/drive, but each time the system is reset, WMP resets the paths back to c:\documents\ etc........
Should this be the way things work?
Thanks for your time,
patmac

My libraries file, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos had developed a problem.

When I click on Pictures, the picture folders appear, but immediately below, my document files appear as folders also.

If I delete a document file in the pictures file, the document also deletes in the documents file.

If I try to move the document file from the picture file to the document file, a window says its an Identical sub folder and won't go any further.

How can I remove the folder list of documents from the picture file without destroying those documents in the document file?

I think that this problem developed as I loaded an ArcSoft program to read slides into my computer.

Thanks,

Jimbow

Hello Jimbow, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If it's just been added to your Pictures library by mistake, then you should be able to use the tutorial below to remove it from the library without deleting the actual folder.

Ok, I need some help..

I know that the documents library is a "library" and when I save anything there it really saves the file to the default location(my documents).

I teach a basic PC course usage course to seniors and some of the PCs are now listing the "My Documents" and the "Public" folders above their respective files when they click on "documents". In the past all the files have been there but never a separation by folder in the listing. There are 8 computers in the LAb and 4 show the "my Documents" and Public location in the listing....

How can I get this back to where they only see the whole list of files without the folder separation in the listing...

Thanks for any help, this is confusing them...

A:Viewing the documents library displays my documents folder

Hello John, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like the default Arrange by, Sort by, or Group by folder view of the "Documents" library has been changed. You might see if doing what's in the yellow TIP box at the top of the tutorial below to click on Clear changes in the "Arrange by" (on toolbar) drop down menu may help.

File and Folder Arrangement - Group by - Sort by - Arrange by

I used to have no problem running the following command:
DATE /T > x:\WEB\CASE1\LOG
TIME /T >>X:\WEB\CASE1\LOG
Then all I did is to move the LOG directory right into the WEB subdirectory,
and now, when I run DATE /T > x:\WEB\LOG, or TIME /T >>X:\WEB\LOG...I keep getting "access is denied".
This is total surprise for me, because:
(1)I have on X:\WEB\CASE1\LOG, the exact same full read/write/full control permissions I have
on X:\WEB\LOG.

-The server that hosts the X:\ path is a windows 2003 sp1 server running in an Active Directory environment.
I am part of the Administrators group on that server
-The client computers I am running both commands from are WinXP SP3 computers that I have local Admin rights on.
And of course, X:\ is a valid mapped drive (just pointing to the server. X:\ = \\servername\path).
And YES, I can create/delete files/directories on that x:\WEB\LOG path on which the 2 above commands fail with
the "access is denied" error.

I am running out of solutions (I even removed and re-created my file permissions rights over the denied path, but in vain. Any idea what could this be?
Thanks for your help

A:Access denied to paths I have full rights on

Check the share permissions in addition to the file permissions. Check the special permissions for any deny permissions as deny permissions supercede allow permissions.

Here?s the ?obviously not? problem. On one, I cannot install My Documents in the Library\Documents folder. If I click on Documents I get the message ?Documents is empty? ?No folders have been included in the library?. If I continue by clicking on ?Include a folder? and then select My Documents, I get a message ?This network location can?t be included because it is not indexed?.

Three computers included it without a hitch. This one refuses. Has anyone an idea of what is going on, or where to look?

Thanks.

Today, I was looking for an Excel file and encountered the following issue:

If I go to Libraries\Documents\Property Files\1105 Dart, I can't see the file I need. However, I can see it if I go to
C:\Users\Sales\Documents\Property Files\1105 Dart

I have 156 files in "Documents" and 153 files in "My Documents". Any idea how to correct this? My documents may have gotten 'out of control' after I started using Bit Torrent Sync to sync the documents folder between my desktop and laptop.

Hi there. I have a feeling that I'm going to feel really dumb when I realize how to do this... but I've been baffled and nothing online has quite worked or applied to my issue. Here goes:

I'm running Windows 7, and have a habit of using the recent documents separated by program on the start menu. In other words, I'll go to Start, highlight Microsoft Excel (as it's a program I use regularly and therefore stays pretty close to the top of the start menu), and mouse over to the right to see my recent Excel documents.

Early on in my Windows 7 use, I had right clicked on some recent files and selected "Remove from this list" and they vanished from the recent Excel document list. However, I can't get them to ever come back.

I've tried resetting my recent document settings under Start Menu properties, even deleting "recent application data" files according to other sites. If I navigate to the files through the folders, I can open spreadsheets and have them show up, but the ones I've removed from the list will not show up, and I don't understand why.

I'm more than willing to provide any additional information, but hopefully someone can tell me this is a rather simple solution.

Thanks!

I mistakenly tried M/S Backup to back up My Documents so I can reformat...

Should have known better as I know it is not good...

Anyway I used CD-RW discs all new... and as the backups didn't record I erased the discs. Although they open up and show completely blank, they show as full in properties...trying to use CD Creator as I normally do tells me that the discs are 10 MB when I know they are 650 MB....

Does anyone know why this is...I'm not bothered about the discs they are cheap enough to throw away and replace, I'll carry on copying and pasting or using CD Creator in the future it's just bugging me as to why this happens...

This is a minor but annoying issue. I suspect there is an easy answer. I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 (thank goodness) and transferred all my personal folders into the Documents library. For some reason, when clicking on Documents on the left of the screen, instead of the body saying Documents Library and then "Includes: 2 locations" as it should, with the folder under it, it says Documents Library and then lists My Documents with the folders under it. I have tried to deposit the folders directly into Documents but get the "target folder is the same" message. Change view just gives me the list versus icon choice. Can I fix this or do I need to live with it this way?

Being a fairly new user to Windows 7, I managed to somehow delete/lose my original 'Documents' folder in the Library. When I finally recovered, the folder levels were not the same, and I ended up with the setup as shown on the attached. My question is this: can I eliminate one of the levels so I don't have to do so many clicks to get down to my folder where the actual documents are stored?

Unfortunately, I do not have a backup that will get me back to where I was before.

Also, how can I change the default save level? Curently, my files are saved at the top level 'Documents' folder.

Thanks!

Good Day All,
I have used Norton Partition Magic to add a new " Drive G " to my new Vaio. I want to know how to set up the default Route for the new "My documents " in this drive, as this is where i will be keeping all " My Documents".
For Example: I scan a Picture and it currently gets automatically stored in the " My Pictures" folder in " My Documents" on Drive C.
How would i make it go to The new location as i described.
Also when you click on the start menu, the " My Documents" shortcut leads to the original Drive C " My Documents" How would i change everything so the computer and other hardware recognizes this Drive G " My documents"
Thanks heaps if someone knows how to do this.

A:Setting New Default Paths for " My Documents"

To change the default location of the My Documents folder, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then point to My Documents.

Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties. Click the Target tab. In the Target box, do one of the following:

Type the path to the folder location that you want, and then click OK . For example, D:\My Stuff . If the folder does not exist, the Create Message dialog box is displayed. Click Yes to create the folder, and then click OK.

-or-

Click Move , click the folder in which to store your documents, and then click OK twice. If you need to create a new folder, click Make New Folder. Type a name for the folder, and then click OK twice. In the Move Documents box, click Yes to move your documents to the new location, or click No to leave your documents in the original location.

TO RESTORE: Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties. CLICK RESTORE DEFAULTS.

Hope this is helps

In dragging and dropping files into My Document, I did something which took that Document Library icon and files and positioned them in a place I can't locate. So I haven't been able to get it back in it's proper form. I created a folder folder called Documents under the Library heading, then found the icon and files called My Documents (C with some sub folders. How can I fix the problem? I wondered if a system restore, then a restore the selected data from my external drive would correct this?

I changed that so I would have more libraries so this is what I got, and I'd like to know how I get it back to what it used to look like (see below)

there are a couple of ways. do you have the win 7 dvd?
If you have a backup to restore is the easiest, then a repair install, then if nec. a re-install.

Win7 appears to put the same files in both the: Libraries/ documents/ my documents and also in: c/my documents

Are these in fact duplicate copies taking 2x the disk space or is this some sort of reflection of one or the other? Can I move and delete the files from the :c/my documents to the :Libraries/ documents/ my documents? Or will changing one automatically change the other?

I want to "clean up" the explore tree and get rid of the duplicate entries. I'm new to Win7 from using XP and not a real computer geek.

Thanks for any input!

A:Why are My Documents files in both Library and C?

Stop! Libraries are not an actual location! They are nothing but a window, a view, into the folders you link to that library. There is no duplicate content.

Right-click on "Documents" in "Libraries" section of Windows Explorer, then select "Properties". Does you normal "My Documents" folder show in the list?

If not, then use Windows Explorer to navigate to your "My Documents" folder, and go into it. Then click Include in library and select "Documents" from the drop-down menu:

I did a Windows Update Yesterday and usually I don't notice any significant changes however this time there is a major one:

I open Windows Explorer Libraries > Documents > My Documents and it shows EVERYTHING. Beforehand it would only show the folder contents with sub-folders when I went to "My Documents" that way, so it was nice and neat. However now that it shows everything including the contents of subfolders including some software logs which means there are THOUSANDS of files and as such the folder is now useless.

Simple solution would be for me to navigate there normally by going C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Documents, however if there is a way to fix the Library that would be cool.

As I stated I have a workaround, and the folder contents are not changed so all is not lost. I really want the new features I paid for in Windows 7 to work though so if there is a way to exclude these folders or get it back to NOT displaying sub folder contents through the LIBRARY that would be awesome.

In File Explorer, go ahead and delete any library that you are getting this error with. Do not worry, this will not delete the contents in the library, it will only remove the corrupted library. eddie460

A:Documents.library-ms" is no longer

The MS library (never got used to the pronunciation or spelling of that word, surely it should be LIBERY, no?) Anyhooo... its really just a link to your local profile. Though I don't specifically know what has happened, it is entirely possible that the link is 'broken' but the actual files still remain in the appropriate location.

For Example

My libraries will appear to be directly in my 'Jimscreechy' folder on my desktop or in the 'Libraries' folder in my windows explorer. In actual fact this is just a link to the real location which is C:\users\jimscreeechy\my music

So firstly navigate to C:\users\'your computer ID'\music... which judging from your member name I am going to equate to c:\users\eddie460\my music

if you navigate to this location and find your files, sing halleluyah and recreate the links by right-clicking the libraries icon and selecting new, then navigating to the location of your choice (music for example) where you want to reinstate the library. You can also create NEW libraries like (Reviews, Avenging Angels, Top secret stuff ) in this manner... if you choose.

If on the other hand you navigate to where your files should be and there is nothing there! Well, you may need to look at restoring from backup (if you have one) or undeleting from the recycle bin (if you haven't emptied it) or (as a last resort) reclaiming files with a restore program (shaky if you've been using the PC for any length of time since the loss of the link)

I wished to make a new Documents Library for this year. Opened my user name and personal folder; then clicked on New Library. It said it needed a Folder but there is no option for a “New Folder”; and so I clicked on a file in my current Documents Library. The entire Documents Library copied into the New Library, which is not what I wanted. I re-named the New Library with label “To Delete” and clicked Delete to send it to the Recycle Bin. Instead it deleted all the data in BOTH the new “To Delete” folder/Library and my current Documents Library. ALL data lost. WHAT HAPPENED????

Windows Help and Support says in Libraries: frequently asked questions, that if you delete a library or items in a library then the library itself is moved to the Recycle Bin. “The files and folders that were accessible in the library are stored elsewhere and therefore aren’t deleted”.

Not so, I lost all my data. The Recycle Bin is a nice safety measure, but it didn’t work in this case. I had a week old backup to use for restore, but still lost a week of data. How can I prevent this from happening again? What happened? How can I make a new Library for each year, especially since there is no “New Folder” option to click on? Maybe it would be safer to just store my files in a folder on the desktop? I need to store data elsewhere to avoid this again. Can I delete copied data and files in the Recycle Bin without losing that same data in my Libraries?
I’m using Windows 7.

I am trying to help someone who has an HP laptop with Win 8, i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 64 bit.

Click on any of the Libraries and you see this message:

Documents.library-ms is no longer working

I searched this forum and found a post that references the Microsoft fix (item 2 below).

A web search found a number of posts, including:

1. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-error-library-ms-is-no-longer-working-windows-7/
2. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-working/0845e8c3-4097-47e8-887a-ae875aa7c4b6
3. http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...cess-libraries-library-ms-problem-458618.html

These posts are generally consistent in their instructions:

a) delete existing libraries; restore default libraries - OR
b) just restore default libraries

However, there are a number of responses to those instructions: some say that they work others say they don't work.

The 3rd forum listed above claims that ". . . this can be caused by the file association for Library-ms files being corrupted" and to download and run Libraryfix_Win7.zip (no link provided).

All of which is a little confusing and not inclined to inspire confidence with the recommended solution.

So . . . does anyone on this forum have any experience with this problem? If so, have you tried the Microsoft fix? If so, does it work?

Thanks for your help.

My DVD burner is not working, so I need to take my files to a Cyber Cafe to back them up on DVDs and CDs.
The thing is I have a huge library of books mostly in pdf format on my PC, and I add and edit the library quite often. I need a way to backup my library to DVDs by syncing with them.

Now, since I cannot directly backup or sync them to DVDs from my PC since my burner is not working, I need another way. Borrowing an external USB DVD-Burner is not an option and I tried that. The only option is to backup or sync to folders on a USB FlashDrive and then burn it somewhere else.

So does anyone have any idea how do I backup or sync in this case?

I'm new to 7. I can't transfer any files to this empty folder - Library/Documents. I created a new folder called 'Docs' in Library' to see if that would work and the system won't allow me to place any files there either. It seems like I'm not allowed access, but I'm the owner .

Can anyone help me with this?

Since the last Windows 7 update a day or two ago, the display of folders in my Documents library has changed. The folders are now displayed in one column with dates showing when each folder was created. This makes scrolling necessary to view all the folders. I'd like to change this back to the way it was, in rows of columns (without dates or any other info) so I can see all the folders at once.
I've tried everything I can think of and I've searched this forum with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

A:How do I restore the display of folders in the Documents library?

Hello Fred,

Setting your folder view settings to Group by -> (None) and view by large or medium icons should sort this for you.

A problem has recently cropped up on my Windows 7 machine. When I open the "Documents" library, it does not show the combined view of My Documents and Public Documents. It shows a list of files, but no folders. Not all of my files are shown, just some of them. However, the file names are correctly linked, in that if I delete one, that file is deleted. If I "open file location" from the library, the correct folder opens.

I've included screen captures of the Documents, My Documents, and Public Documents libraries. You'll notice that I have a second hard drive (F where all of my documents are stored.

What happened? How do I fix this?

Using Win 8 and Office 2010. All of my libraries have become unusable. When I click on the, ?File Explorer icon?, in the Quick Launch Toolbar of the Desk Top I get four (4) icons representing Library?s, Music, Pictures and Videos. When I click on LIBRARY I get error message,? LIBRARY.library-ms" is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected.
I get a similar error message if i click on any of the others. In addition my DOCUMENTS Library is missing.
I am able to view and recall items in Documents, all of which are Word items by creating a new word document, clicking on RECENT. This gives me all of my documents.
How do I restore the ability to click on the File Explorer icon and then Documents to see and use all my Word documents and files?
I asked this question previously (7/31/2014) and received a solution from JIMSCREECHY. He suggested that I navigate to C:\users\my computer ID\ any library\ and right-clicking the libraries icon and selecting new, then navigating to the location of your choice (music for example) where you want to reinstate the library.
When I right click on Library, or any other, item I do not have a NEW option. If I highlight Library and right click in the field I am given the NEW option. Clicking on it creates a new Library. Similarly doing the same to PICTURES, VIDEOS or MUSIC also creates a NEW LIBRARY.
Today I did a system restore to a point before this ... Read more

My Documents library was very well organized, containing many folders. Today I clicked on my Documents library, and discovered that all of my folders HAD DISAPPEARED, and all of the folders' contents are now floating loose in my document's library. I now have over 28,000 different files in my documents library with no organization whatsoever. (Interestingly, I also have a few zipped folders that weren't tampered with.) Also, my computer has been very VERY slow, making some of my programs unusable. (Microsoft Word, in particular). My McAfee virus software is running and up to date. Also, when I click on my documents folder through my C drive instead of going through my documents library, my folders are all intact the way they are supposed to be. I have NEVER seen anything like this before. Ever seen this before? Can it be fixed?

Before posting this, I tried the following:

- turned media streaming off and then on again.
- Restarted the computer
- restored media library, but this only rebuilt the media database of the local computer.

I could still see the other computer's library in Network, but there is no option to add it back. I've run out of ideas. Please help.

I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

I have 4 computers all running W7 Home Premium, all set up identically. One has recently lost track of My Documents in the Windows Explorer Library and doesn't offer a solution to restoring it.

The actual content of My Documents is on a DNS-323 network drive. In years of experience, nothing like this has been a problem, so nothing to see there.

The Library shows Documents with the "expansion arrow". If I try to expand that, the arrow goes away but nothing happens. If I click on Documents, I get the messages "Documents is Empty" "No folders have been include in the library". If I click on the Include a folder button, navigate to the folder on the network drive and try to add it, I get a message "This network location can't be included because it is not indexed". The other three computers are pretty sure it is, or at least that it doesn't matter.

I have searched through the Registry for a clue, but there are so many references to My Documents that I have no idea what to look for there.

I would appreciate any ideas other than reloading Windows. Is there a way to just reload Windows Explorer, or perhaps copy it from another of the working computers? (I suspect it is a Registry problem, so a simple copy is probably off the table.)

Always double-click the horizontal header bar of each Location before closing the window. This is the only way I know of to do this. After a while, it will become so automatic that you won't even have to think about it.

Have tried to find something that would fix this problem (not having it myself), but have run into that thing we call a "Wall." Really not sure what it would take at this point.

Something you might do is to run a Malware program to determine if that could be the problem. Or, go to "System Restore" then go back to point that this problem didn't exist, and restore to that point to see if that will fix the problem (remember if you use System Restore you may have to reinstall some of your apps). Using Win XP SP3. This morning, all the folders in My Documents, except Word Documents, are gone. Windows Explorer doesn't show them and Excel can't find saved spreadsheets and Picassa can't find saves photos. However, Nero does find all the files when I used it to see if the files could be accessed. Quicken also can find its' data files. I did mess around in the Folder Options of Control Panel yesterday to reveal hidden files in recycling that Trend Micro Antivirus said had trojans in them. I did not touch the files, I simply emptied the recycling bin. I have reset all my changes in Folder Options to the default setting. I am hoping the files are still there, just hidden or not accessible. Anyway to tell that for sure? I have a full backup from last week, and I could restore the registry to yesterday morning, but I don't want to do anything if the files are still on the drive. Thank you for any suggestions.

A:Win Explorer doesn't show My Documents

Maybe you inadvertently hide the folders. Open My Documents and in the address bar type something like My Music right in front of My Documents, for example; My Documents\My Music you're my music folder should appear. Now right click in an empty spot, select properties and uncheck the Hidden attribute and click apply. If this work, do the same for each folder.

This is probably one of the strangest problems I've come across in my 10 years of IT / system support.

I have a brand new lenovo t43 that was just intalled last week. Ever since installation - this is the problem: if I have any window open (Outlook, IE, Windows Explorer) - and click the show desktop button - 5 second pause - then the computer shows the desktop.
If I use start / my documents - same pause (but if I double click my documents on the desktop - no problem). This problem either takes 1 1/2 hours to go away or around three or four reboots.

Here's where it gets weird:
If I boot without a network wire plugged in - I dont get this problem at all. If , after I boot, I plug in a network wire - this problem appears, if I unplug the wire - the problem persists.

This is occuring on my laptop as well as my co-workers (but not the veterans).

There is nothing strange showing up in task manager or event viewer (that is causing this problem).

I have already tried the msconfig disable everything fix and that doesn't fix it (which leads me to think its a Microsoft service running that only runs when a network is present).

Any ideas what this service might be? I tried disabling / stopping windows update (Automatic Updates) but the problem was still there.

I have a Matshita (Panasonic) LF-D310 DVD-R(RAM) drive - it came on my MicroExpress computer two years ago (so early DVD-R). I have finally found a reason to start using it (backup 100's of baby photos/movies) but have realized there is a problem. When you place a blank CD-R disk in it and go to my computer and to the drive/properties you see that the used space is 0% and the free space is 0%. Using many different authoring programs (inc. Nero 6) I am told that the brand new disk is full.

I have tried using TDK and non-branded disks from the local computer store with no luck. In researching this problem I found some people praising the darker purple DVD-R's (in 2002) but I'm not sure if they are still around...if that is the real problem.

I have a user on our network who has had a problem we have not been able to solve and it has started to become political. When opening word documents (Office XP) with pictures embedded -some are Visio drawings, the pictures won't show. If she clicks on the space where the pictures are, sometimes they show, sometimes they don't. It also locks her computer except her mouse which works just fine. No-one else has these problems, not even with the same document. The size of the document does not matter, nor does the location. She has gone through 3 new machines in the last couple of weeks while we have been trying to find the cause of the problem. Running Windows XP, we have not noticed any high CPU cycles, errors in the event viewer or anything. We have doubled the RAM in her computer with the same result. We have blown away her profile and let it rebuild itself. All is well for a while, then it comes right back. We run McAfee VirusScan which maybe is the culprit, but the system says otherwise. Does anyone have any idea what we could look into? All systems are patched to the latest.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who helped with my previous question!

New question: Is there a way to get jumplists (especially Windows Explorer) to show the full path of each folder, or at least enough to differentiate similarly named folders?

For instance, at work, every project I work on gets a new folder. Within each project folder, I create 3 other subfolders (say Excel, Original Files, Updates). These folders always have the same name exactly and that makes it difficult to identify them in the jumplist (addmitedly if I hover over them I get the full path).

Thanks,
Ariel

Start Menu, All Programs, highlight program + right-click on it, select Properties, Shortcut, Target (shows actual file path NOT the shortcut path!)

FROM WINDOWS EXPLORER
Open Windows Explorer, highlight the file, and press Shift + right-click mouse.
Select: Copy as path.
Open a Word page and select: Paste.
The path of the file will be pasted in the Word doc.

FROM THE TASKBAR ? (FOR A FILE PINNED TO TASKBAR OR IN JUMP LISTS OR QUICK LAUNCH)
Be sure the program is not running at the time.
Hold the Shift key while right-clicking the pinned shortcut.
This will bring up the full Context Menu.
Select: Copy as path.
Open a Word page and select: Paste.
The path of the file will be pasted into the Word doc.

we are on a p2p network with 4) windows xp, and 2) windows 7x64. I have a problem with one pc opening files in a shared folder. Only one pc will open the files in the folder as read only and the others will open with full control. I have checked if someone has the files open and no one did. I have checked the share attributes and they are set to full control to all users. The files are in word and xl and did not try anything other type of files. Is there a setting that makes the files read only for one user? This system is the owner and boss (win xp) and need a fix fast.

How to make my taskbar show full name of a program if it has space to do it?
Like this:

Don't mind Vista theme, its XP.

A:How to make taskbar show full name of a program

Hover the mouse cursor over it. No other way I know of. May be some 3rd party tool but I haven't looked.

I insert any cd or dvd blank media in drive and not able to burn
they all show up as full any suggestions
thanks

A:any blank media show-up full in drive

What program are you trying to burn with? Sometimes installing a 3rd party burner app such as Nero or Roxio can mess with your ability to burn a cd from within Windows' CD burning. Also if you are trying to burn using Windows built in CD burning you can only burn to CD and not DVD.

How to show the full path of the shared folders?

For example, I have shared the h folder which is stored on the D drive of the P1 Computer. What I wanted is to show the full path of the shared folder such that it (shared folder) appears as (screenshot is attached):

\\P1\Local Disk (D\h

How might this be accomplished?

Thank you

Best

Jamal

A:How to show the full path of the shared folders?

Hi Jamal,

You have created a few Threads, are these all work-related questions or for personal use?

To answer your question, you may create a Mapped Network Drive and create a shortcut on your desktop, this way you'll be able to see the path of your shared resource.
Create a shortcut to (map) a network drive

several weeks ago i installed norton, this for some reason unistalled my network so i tried windows restore and it wouldnt let me, i have an hp/compaq and for some reason i had the brilliant idea of hitting f10 when start up, i think its f10 for restore under compaq/hp, well this restore erased all of my documents(around 10,000 of my personal pictures and every other file in my documents folder) all my apps were there but no pictures, nothing, I noticed recently that although i have only around 15gb of new info in the new my documents, my hard drive still shows 120Gb of a total 140Gb used up and only 20Gb free. can it be possible that these pictures are still somewhere? i know i can restore deleted files with software but these dont seem deleted looks like they are somewhere else. any ideas on how look for them?

A:after restore all pics on MY DOCUMENTS was deleted but the hard drive is still full

Just a thought.

Click on My computer and open the local hard drive.

Take a look in there for a second Windows file.

Allso you could try search for a file which is missing. If search finds it you will have the location of the rest of the files if they still exist.

The machine loads fine but items in the buttom of the sscren will not appear. I have restored the system. Used system recovery to no avail. Do I have to replace the disiplay? Is this a BIOS issue? Is it a grafics card issue? Should I call it quits and buy a new machine? The PC is 3 years old.

Hi - first-time poster looking for help (Googling did not turn up the answer):

I have numerous clients whose info I keep in folders / subfolders with a set naming convention. As a result, my Recent Places list shows many (sub)folders all with the same name, which isn't very helpful. Is there a way I can include the path to the folders in the Recent Place list to differentiate them? It would greatly increase my productivity! (BTW, I've tried using the folder columns available by right-clicking on the column names in Recent Places - both Folder path and Path return only C:\Users\[username]\App_Data\Roaming... (i.e. the location of the shortcut) vs. the actual path to the true folder).

Thanks!

A:Recent Places Folder: Show Full Path?

Did you ever discover a solution? It's definitely a problem not knowing where a Recent Places shortcut refers to.

Is there a way I can have the full file names displayed with the desktop icons without having to click on the icon?

A:How to show full file names with desktop icons

Well you could just increase the width of the spacing on the desktop icons so that it will show more text. To do his. Rt Click on Desktop. Click Personalize, Click Windows Color the click on "Advanced Appearance settings" Then Click the The black down arrow head against Items, then scroll down to Icon Spacing Horizontal and adjust this to larger. This should show more text. Might also help to make the text smaller too. This is done in the same way. You will see the text box under "Items"

My Dell E510 was working just fine, until the plumbing problem wet the monitor. Black marks, green lines, just got worse and worse. I bought an acer X203H monitor with 1600x900 resolution. Problem is the Dell only gives me a max resolution choice of 1280x768. I've got a lot of black space around the viewable image. I've downloaded a driver for this model from Acer and selected it in the monitor properties via the driver update process. My Dell Dimension E510 has the intel 82945G Express Chipset, and therefore no graphics card. Am I just screwed? or is there a way to get the display properties to give me a choice of 1600x900?
