How to copy paths to clipboard from search results

Q: How to copy paths to clipboard from search results

G'day everyone

Under Windows XP I used a program called Piky Basket which had a right-click feature that allowed me to copy the full paths of selected files to the clipboard. This feature worked on multiple files, even in search results from e.g. Windows' own search utility and e.g. Voidtools' Everything. I want to be able to do the same in Windows 7.

Sadly, Piky Basket does not work on my system (Win7, 64), and the version of Piky Basket that does work on my system doesn't have this feature anymore.

The built-in "Copy as path" in Windows does work on multiple files, but only if those files are all in the same folder (which is not the case in search results). The same applies to SendTo Toys -- can only copy multiple paths if they're all in the same folder.

Dengdun's OpenXX works fine on search results, but copies a maximum of 15 paths (why???).

Jarle Aase's CopyPath copies only one path at a time... and this applies to many of the nameless similar utilities floating about the web.

Ninotech Path Copy insists on installing the 32 bit version of it (even if I remove the previous version), and does not add anything to the context menu that I can see.

Any ideas about how I can copy full paths of files to the clipboard, even in search results?

Thanks
Samuel

A: How to copy paths to clipboard from search results

PLJ Soft's ClipName also copies only multiple files if they are all in the same folder.
Context Magic does not seem to work in Windows 7.

Wait... Lopesoft's FileMenu Tools appear to work!

I just ran a Spybot S&D scan and for the first time since first downloading this program I came up with missing dll files, wrong registry paths, etc. Over the weekend, I had a power surge and it seems that I've had some minor problems with different programs. For instance, I had to reload my McAfee Virus Scan again this morning before running my online scan, which is unusual. Updates aren't unusual, but this seemed to load files that load when I first downloaded the program???? Also my directX files were missing. Anyways, I went to the help file on S&D and it warned not to correct the following unless I am comfortable. Would someone with much more knowledge than I verify that the following are okay to fix?? We enabled hardened UNC paths in our environment and have ran into a weird issue. We are no longer able to copy and paste within the same share. There is no error, when you click "paste" nothing happens. We have a department
that uses a custom application and that application makes a copy of a template before editing the newly created copy. This process is now completely broken. We only see it when copying/pasting from the same share. If you copy/paste locally
or another share, it is fine. I've been searching and cannot find any info on this issue. As soon as we disable the unc path hardening, it works again. Anybody have any ideas?

I am looking for some kind of utility that you can copy a certain section of the screen to the clipboard right from windows. I know you can do this with the "PrtScn" button but that take the whole screen. I was thinking of something like pressing a function key that gives you a marquee so you can encompass the area you want to copy. Does anybody know of any utility like this?

thanx

Hi! I use a lot of "copy and paste" on my computer. I recently began having a problem. I will go to copy something, and when I click on paste, this is what I get:

http://master.mx-targeting.com/mx/servlet/MXTarget?adcontext=ROUTINE_CHECKIN&contextpeak=0&contextcount=0&countrycodein=US&lastAdTime=1095095291|0|1095096341|1094710167|1094707376|0|0|0|0|&lastAdCode=3&cookie1=capdate%3D1320%26capdatedy%3D0913%26lupgtry%3D1%26lupgid%3D157%26lupgdt%3D1094743218249%26lflshdt%3D1094707376%26lstlogdt%3D20040913%26cntp%3Dcable%26capcnt%3D0%26capcntdy%3D30%26&cookie2=fs

I can go back to the item I am copying, and copy again, and it will paste it right the second time.

This happens every time I try to copy and paste, and I get the same "pasted" item above. I click copy again, and it will paste what I wanted it to, but it always takes 2 tries.

Thank you in advance.

I have been using the FN+PRTSC to copy my screen for use in graphic design programs for several years and then one day last month it no longer copied the screen to the clipboard. What could cause that to happen so I can know where to look. Nothing I know to look at seems to be wrong. Is this a Bios issue? Or a registry issue? or is there a possibility I inadvertently turned off the function?

Hello

I want to be able to copy people's files on their own local HDD while mapping to their C$ shares across the network, but I'm looking for a way to have the files use their local clipboards instead of using mine. Is this possible?

I'm wanting to copy their PST files from Outlook to another local location before I run a scan on it as I have seen scanpst.exe hose these files before. But, I don't want the network to use my clipboard and end up doing a two way LAN transfer, which will clobber our network doing this to these huge PST files. Some people have these files maxed at around 20gig.

TIA

Hello all,

I searched the threads and could not find a related question. When remoting from a Windows 7 machine to a Windows 8 machine copy and paste do not function. I restarted the RDPClip service on both machines, this can be replicated on multiple machines (this is in work environment).

We are going to be deploying Windows 8 company-wide once we get little issues such as this sorted out. I'm curious whether something changed that might need to be implemented with our group policy. We did not have an issue with this before so it's definitely specific to OS.

Any help or suggestions appreciated!

A:Clipboard (Copy and Paste) when remoting from Win 7

What features of Windows 8 does your company find desirable that led to the decision to deploy it company wide?

I was able to paste from 7 to 8 through RDP.

Did you check the settings in the Remote Desktop Connection program(Win7) under Local Resources. I think you'll need Clipboard checked.

As you may know, Windows XP had the clipbrd file in system32 which kept a record of what you've had copied. I would like to access some copied text that i copied a few days ago but my computer crashed due to a power outage so i wasn't able to save the changes to a notepad file. I know third party softwares like clipboard viewers can be downloaded and used to save future instances but i would like to know if there is a way to access the history as I stand?

The clipboard in Windows 7 only holds one item. If you copy anything else, the last copied item in the clipboard gets replaced.

There is no further history than the last item copied to the clipboard.

Hey everyone. I have been having trouble for the past couple of days with my clipboard. I'll be on a website and I'll highlight some text, right click, click copy, and then click paste on another website and I discover that the text was either not copied or is failing to paste. It works randomly. It allows me to copy and paste some things but other things it will not let me copy and paste. For example, I can copy and paste the block of text I am typing at these forums just fine but yet if I go to some website and try to copy some content and then paste it the operation may or may not work. This first occurred yesterday and I resolved the issue by restarting my computer. However, it did it again this evening and a restart did not solve the issue.

I do want to note that I just installed several Windows Updates the other day. I'm not sure if it could be a bug with one of the updates or not. In addition, I am using Comodo IceDragon which also recently updated to version 22.0.01. Adobe Flash Player updated today as well. And finally, I uninstalled Comodo Internet Security Premium the other day and installed ZoneAlarm antivirus and firewall (the free version) because the Comodo program was giving me an error I couldn't solve. Dear all,

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to troubleshoot this problem for nearly 3 weeks now. Let me begin by first giving the most detailed description of the problem, then highlight the things that I have tried and have learnt about the problem.

Basically, my copy & paste/clipboard function is not working as it once did, to be specific I am unable to paste in anything other than Unitcode Text. Whether this problem is materializing at the copy or paste side is something I am unsure about, regardless, I lose all formats, HTML, rich text, formulas, you name it I cannot paste it in anything other than plain text.

Initially I thought this was a Microsoft Office issue, but I am unsure about this as the copy and paste feature seems to suffer this same issue when copy and pasting from an internet page to Wordpad, neither IE or Wordpad are MS Office products.

I have had some minor success in troubleshooting this problem, or at least discovering some interesting characteristics of it. If, for example, I create a new user account/profile on my PC and open Excel in that new account, the copy and paste feature works as normal and will copy and paste whatever I choose. I thought that was interesting, although I?m no expert I guess that means it is a software issue of some sort and not hardware (when I spoke to Microsoft they tried to blame Dell). Furthermore, my IT department managed to troubleshoot successfully to a very small degree by tinkering with the 3 settings... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Copy & Paste / Clipboard not working

Significant Update:

I have finally located the precise cause of this issue. It is the Skype Click to Call plug in. There is something in that application that causes a conflict with the clipboard. I closed all internet browsers and the copy & paste feature worked fine, I then uninstalled Sky Click to Call on Chrome (my primary browser), opened Chrome only and copy & paste fully function. I then opened Firefox (my secondary browser) which still had Skype Click to Call installed and the copy & paste feature failed. I uninstalled it from Firefox, opened Firefox again and copy & paste feature worked, I did exactly the same for Internet Explorer and the same pattern followed. I have no totally removed the plug-in from my PC for all internet browsers and my copy & paste functions is back to normal.

I do not know if there are any other reports of this, I certainly do not have this problem on my home PC but just thought I would make everyone aware.

Is it possible to access this so called clipboard Vista uses for such things as Snipping Tool and cut/copy recent history? I DESPERATELY NEED to recover something I've cut from my web coding!

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

A:How to view cut/copy recent history from clipboard...?

Hello Daniel,

The clipboard in Vista will only remember the last item that you placed (copied) in it. When you place (copy) something new in it, the last item is automatically deleted. I hope that you have not copied anything else since then.

You might use the free program ClipMagic for the future. It will allow you to keep and view the future contents of the clipboard like you are wanting here afterwards.

Hope this helps,

In Excel if I copy a cell that has certain colored fill and paste it elsewhere using the Office Clipboard, the color is different. If I use Copy(CTRL-C), move the cursor to the target cell and press enter, it pastes correctly. This happens with all the custom colors and one of the default colors.
Is this a bug or a famous MS design feature?

I have an HTML table with three columns and as an example 600 rows on each web page. When the user goes to my web site I want the user to be able to copy the contents of any cell (not all cells) in column three to the clipboard by clicking on a link within any cell in column three. The HTML table as a whole (in one file has 100,000 rows) but the whole file will be broken up into various pages. I am not able to use active server pages on the site. Normally the user can select and copy any cell using the browser select and copy command. However, giving the user a button to click to do the select and copy routine would be more convient and more user friendly. As far as the user is concerned, the contents of the cells in the table are fixed and unchanging. Thank you in advance for any replies.

I've actually never noticed this problem until recently I've started to work with both architectures (x86 & x64) due to programming reasons.

I've noticed that whenever I use a program that is x86 the Copy/Paste functionality doesn't works I mean, nothing works, CTRL +C / CTRL +V does nothing and the right click feature doesn't helps neither... whenever I copy something is like the CTRL +C would act as a clipboard "resetter" and CTRL + V pastes a null character AKA nothingness.

now whenever I use a x64 of that same program, it works everything just fine!

What could be the issue here?

An odd thing has recently occurred on my otherwise perfectly running system (XP; Office 2002; IE7;OE; 2Gigs Memory). I'll select/copy and go to a a word doc I want to paste into and when I right click/paste or edit/paste the thing I copied is not there--in fact the paste option is not visible. I'm an intermediate user and have plenty of experience in copying and pasting.

After much trial and error Iíve discovered that what knocks the copy from the clipboard is opening the first instance of Word. I/o/w, if a word document is already open the Clipboard will hold and paste. If there is no word document open and I copy from OE or IE when I open a word document to paste, the above happens (paste grayed out).
I then go back and chose copy and paste and it works. This isn't an isolated instance and it never happened until recently.

It doesn't happen w/in the same word documentósince an instance of word is already opened. And it doesnít happen if I copy from IE to OE even if there is no Word Doc open. However, if I copy from IE, open a Word Doc, it knocks the copy out and I canít paste into OE.

Itís as if the intervening action of opening Word removes the thing I copied from the clipboard.

By way of example, after typing this in this forum if I right clicked, copied and went to paste into a word document which I had to open (first instance of word opened) to keep a copy, the paste option would not be there. If I already had a word document open or ope... Read more

Was there some sort of security update related to Photo copying in this last Windows Update? I find that I can no longer copy images to the Windows clipboard. After I hit COPY for a picture, and than try to open it in Word Pad, it doesn't show. Or it says, the system is busy. I used to be able to take a picture off of the Internet, select Copy, and open it. The other time I tried this the Jasac PhotoShop starter application crashed.

Also in Windows Paint, the screen used to open with a White background and I could bring the picture from the clipboard into the program. Now, I have to go under Edit and Select All to get the resizing tools but the picture does not stretch, it only moves as if Windows is putting some type of restrictions on what I can and cannot copy online. The cut, copy and pasting of text works fine. Any idea what's going on? I am on a Dell PC with Windows XP SP-3

Update: I can however copy into MS Word 2003, but not WP 12. If I do that it says, "The OLE cannot be created. This is usually caused by incorrect data about the server in the Windows Registration Database. The source of the picture that I was trying to copy came from Facebook. But I get the same results if I work with a photo that has already been saved to my computer.

I go to a different site each time and for me to get to the right page i have to click back then click it again. For example, i searched for "circuit city" on google and then clicked the circuit city main webpage off the list of results. I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
[email protected]:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
[email protected]:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

I would ask on DonationCoder.com specifically this forum:
General Software Discussion - DonationCoder.com

The reason is I know there are a bunch of DO aficionados, who also use Linux, on that forum. I've never tried DO myself. I have played around with CygWin. But it's been a few years.

If the site wants a donation to sign up just explain to Mouser why you want to post etc.. I think he'll be sympathetic.

Hi folks. New to forum :-). Yesterday I upgraded two Dell laptops and my desktop machine to Windows 10. I am really liking it so far. But I have two things I can't seem to resolve:

1. Search - On my two Dell laptops if I search for, say, User Account Control, at the top of the search results I will get a local result saying Change User Account Control settings. That result will be in grey. But on my desktop machine, if I enter the same search, I don't get any grey result at the top. All I can get on that machine is web results. I don't know what's different. I have initialized Cortana on all three machines the same way (I think). Can someone help me understand why I am not getting local results on the desktop machine?

2. One of my Dell laptops has a fingerprint reader. It was working for logins when I had Windows 7 on the machine. Now that I have Windows 10 on the machine I cannot figure out how to get the reader working again. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

A:Can't get local search results on one machine (only web results)

set up some Win10 PCs.

disable networking. logged out and logged back in.

some of the machines now FAIL to do a local search.

any search terms type after hitting the Windows key, or typed into the search box produce NO results.

Microsoft is receiving *all* searches even if web search is disabled in search settings:
turned networking back on
opened cmd and netstat -aon; no connections to www ips
type a search for "notepad" in search box
my computer connects to a Microsoft IP address!

This is ridiculous!

I have been having an error with Java lately and I think this issue is the reason for the many Java related issues I've been having. I'm hoping someone here has an effective fix, either it be reinstalling Java entirely or modifying a file.

The error is as follows:
Cannot copy to the clipboard: java.security.AccessControlException , access denied ("java.awt.AWTPermission" "accessClipboard")

A:Java Error "Cannot Copy to the Clipboard"

Anything?

EDIT: Tried full reinstall of both 32 and 64 bit versions, it did not fix the problem at all.

EDIT 2: Well after not wanting to edit the file without the help of someone who knows what they are doing, I searched the web and edited the java.policy file with a line that re-enables copy-pasting again within Java. And it seems to have worked.
Does anyone know why copy-paste was disabled in Java 7 Update 5?

This is what I did:

Hi, I am having trouble with using google on a computer running Windows XP SP3. The links from search results are being redirected through the pages "basic-search.net", "get-answers-fast.com" and "easyA-Z.com".

Steps taken so far:
1)
Attempted manual removal of files after searching for this problem on google. Located and removed files in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader
"qmgr0.dat" and "qmgr1.dat".

These had to be removed in safe mode - upon restarting they were back again.

2)
Scanned computer using malwarebytes and spybot s&d. Other than tracker cookies, no problems were detected.
Scanned computer using TDSSkiller, which found nothing either. Some unregistered drivers were found when the optional settings were enabled.
Attempted scan using combofix, based on the success story here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic412458.html/page__st__45
although this stalls soon after it starts scanning for infected files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. Hello,My name is Jude, and I am in need of some help. For a month now I have tried to fix these problems by myself, but I now realize I need help to get this fixed. Here is the timeline, and what is still occurring, which I cannot figure out how to fix.About a month ago, the computer became nearly unusable. I ran SpyBot and Malware Bytes, which found 49 malware and 23 other problems. The two problems did their job. I then ran AVG, found a few viruses, and took care of them as well. The computer itself was better, but not the browsers...Internet Explorer refused to load, and although Firefox would, it constantly was opening a new tab to some other website...Then I found that even Firefox didn't want to load... So I tried clicking numerous times (once every time the "wait circle" would stop and no browser would appear) until either IE or Firefox would eventually come up. Looking in Task Manager, I would (and still do) find several instances of Explorer, iExplore, and Firefox loaded into memory.I then found that my search (Google in Firefox, Bing in IE) was hijacked, leading to a different website and opening more tabs again!----------Jumping to today----------------I have tried everything I can think of, and more.. I even updated Firefox, uninstalled IE7 and then installed IE8 (64 bit will load up, but not regular IE). The update fixed the Google search, and yet..When I do a search with Google, often times the top results will not show the link (I have to copy th... Read more

Hi there

I would be grateful for somebody's help but am not hugely computer savvy so can only explain and understand simple pc speak!

For a couple of months now every time I start up the pc I get three extra tabs appearing - Easylifeapp Search, a Google tab and a Lavasoft tab. Now I've noticed a new window pane appearing on the left of my screen with a small capital T in the top left corner. This contains a "related searches" results that I didn't look for.

I've been researching how to get rid of the Easylifeapp and Lavasoft and have removed them from extensions and add ons but they keep returning on startup. I use Chrome. I run Malwarebytes regularly enough but that doesn't seem to be successful. I've also run Piriform CCCleaner (don't know if this is good or bad..) but no success either.

It's all very frustrating and my laptop is definitely acting up more lately which I'm sure is down to this kind of stuff messing with it.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Chilliflake

Hey all,I have a nasty redirect virus/malware on my computer that I have been trying to delete for 2 days now. The symptoms are as follows:-Google and Yahoo are in German (and therefore all websites I visit through those search engines are in German). For example, when I type "Yahoo" in my Google search bar it directs me to google.de, and then when I click Yahoo the entire website is in German. It does this with other sites such as CNET, etc. as well.-Clicking links often results in multiple redirects-I have Spybot and AVG 9 Free. Spybot has detected around 200 malicious files but when I attempt to remove them, I get an error saying something about the System32 host files.-I have checked for the TDSSServ.sys and didnt see one.I would appreciate ANY and ALL assistance. It is driving me crazy! I want to avoid wiping at all costs if I can, as it is a computer I received through college with a laptop lease program which I have since bought out and it has several programs on it thanks to the University which arent standard.THANK YOU! P.S. I have the DSS files below and attached. When I attempted to obtain the GMER file, my computer froze the first time and on the next two attempts I received the following blue screen with the message:"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. 2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either AVG or McAfee.Important note: It is important to run the removal tool after you uninstall the AV that you wish to remove.AVG removal tool --> HEREMcAfee removal tool... Every other Google search result I click redirects me to a random website regardless of which internet browser I use. MalwareBytes and Search and Destroy have not worked. Also, when I search for something in Google toolbar, it searches through google.de so that the results are all in German. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

I have tried D.D.S but it does not seem to generate any reports for me. I can just see the black dos window with the instruction and i have waited for more than an hour but nothing. I cannot browse to any of the following sites with IE or Mozilla:http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/http://malwarebytes.org/I can browse to www.google.com. It allows me to enter a specific search keyword, pressing search and Google then returns results. However I am not sure if they are normal results or not . They do look pretty legit, (ie.. if I search for "antivirus", I see legitimate sites return from the search like avg.com and symantec.com, etc...)The tricky thing is clicking on one of Google???s search results you???ve just recieved. I'm working to resolve an issue remotely on a client's pc where any search result is being redirected to odd sites. I've seen several posts of common problems so now it's my turn. The problem is occurring in Chrome and IE 8, antivirus running is Security Essentials with latest definitions, Malwarebytes is up to date, and also have scanned with HiJack This, Ad-Aware, Super-Antispyware, and Eset Online Scanner. Any help would be appreciated....

When doing google searches in Firefox or IE the links will get redirected when clicked on.
When the redirect is happening www.search-tracker.net appears in the bottom bar of firefox and the page displayed is wrong.
If I copy the link from the page (right click/copy link location) and paste it into the tile bar it always works correctly.
AVG does not show any issues.
Comcast cable network offers free install of McAfee security suite that I use to run.
When this issue showed up I found I could no longer do a virus scan with McAfee as the computer would reboot when the scan started.
All the management functions of McAfee worked fine but start a scan and the computer reboots.
I uninstalled McAfee and installed AVG.
AVG did one round of cleaning and now can't find anything.
I don't remember what AVG found other then tracking cookies. If it leaves a log behind that may still be around.
I have tried to install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
It seems to install fine but will not run. Double click the icon and nothing.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times but nothing. Never tries to do the update either.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but that did not help.
I just copied the the mbam.exe file to a new name and double clicked that and it started up. Cool.
I have attached the attach.txt file.
The Malwarebytes run finished. 1 Trogan.Agent was found. I have attached that log file also.
I will send this and then have Malwarebytes remove it. I will then ... Read more

I have no idea what's gotten into my computer, but when I perform a search in Google or Yahoo!, more often than not, clicking on a resulting link will take me to a fake result (www.clean-pc-now.com is a frequent result). I can still get to the page I want by copying and pasting the link's URL into the address box, but this has become tiresome.

I've done the usual anti-malware things -- HijackThis!, Spybot, etc., and I always have Windows Firewall, Avast! and Scotty (WinPatrol) running, and I haven't gotten any bugs for a couple of years, nor could those programs find anything that might be responsible for this. I've also run Maywarebytes Anti-Malware, Wise Registry & Disk Cleaners, but again -- nothing repoted. My computer is a desktop PC running XP Pro, and my browser is FireFox 3.5.2. I even tested MSIE to see if it has the same trouble with search engines, and indeed it does, so FF isn't at fault.

Here's the result of my DDS scan, and thanks in advance for any assistance:

I am having the same problem as the person two posts down but I wasn't allowed to reply to that so I'll make my own post.

When I click on search results on Google, links will redirect to other search sites. This happens in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I've scanned several times with BitDefender Anti-Virus, MalwareBytes Anti-Spyware, Spy Sweeper, and Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware detected a couple of worms last week but I removed them and since then none of these programs have detected anything (other than some mod I installed for Grand Theft Auto which seems to always come up as a Trojan.Generic, but I've had it installed for atleast a year it's clean).

I have run CCleaner to delete anything in the temp folders and cache, and I've gone into the registry and deleted some [email protected] thing under Firefox extensions. I've also tried searching for a fix (I've found out that if I right-click links and copy and paste them into the address bar they work fine) and another forum site suggested that I download and run some GooredFix program and after I ran it, it said it deleted several registry entries for Firefox. None of this has worked though.

Anyways, here's my HijackThis log:

Hi

Can anyone suggest how to speed up my windows search results?

When I click on the start button the initial results appear as fast as I can type. But this only applies to Settings and Programs. It is currently taking over 10 seconds for the first file name to appear!

Worse, nothing is cached - so if I want to do another, similar search a few seconds later, it STILL takes 10 seconds before the first filename appears.

Background
- Most of my documents live in a directory in the root directory called "docs" (e.g. 3.5GB)
- I have 98GB of free space on my hard drive (SSD)
- I have c. 11GB of Outlook emails as .PST files (Outlook 2013)
- I have c. 5GB of emails in an .OST file.
- I have some about 5GB of files in DropBox too.

- My system: Motherboard: Intel DP55WB (MA TX)
Processor: Intel Core I5 750 2.66GHz
RAM: 8GB = (2GB 1066 DDR3 Memory) x4 modules
Hard disk: SSD 300GB, "INTEL SSDSA2CW300G3 ATA Device"
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 - S/n: 7 78656 05291 8
Operating system: Windows7 Pro 64Bit

I rebuilt the Window's search index a few weeks ago but it didn't help speed things up.
In desperation I sometimes still use the desktop search called "Everything" (from VoidTools) ("Version 1.3.4.686 (x64)") which is extremely fast and light on resources and only searches file names. However it appears the author has given up developing it at it keeps crashing.

I began having an issue with my laptops ATI Radeon graphics driver not working properly. It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware. Can you help?

A:no results when using search programs and files box or explorer search box

Since you state you have run ComboFix and are requesting help for that in this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic443207.html

Please wait until you are cleared of any malware or changes that the malware tools might have made to compound this issue have been cleared.

Once it is determined that malware or use of antimalware tools is not part of the problem here, please PM any staff member to have this topic reopened.

Hello All..
I'm new in here.. but have used a lot of the solutions created by all of you.
But I could not find a solution for my problem.

Case:
I have a user account that I need to "lock down/restrict"
I'm using group policy for non administrators:
Controlpanel
Prohibit access to Control Panel and PC settings
Start Menu and Taskbar
Prevent users from customizing their start screen
Remove all program list from start menu
Remove balloon tips on start menu items
Turn off all balloon notification
System
Prevent access to registry editing tools
Ctrl+Alt+Del option
Remove task manager

This helps me a lot.. BUT If the user are using the charm bar search.. they can access My Computer or Documents or ....
How can I disable the search on the START Charmbar
I have used the article: Search in Windows 8 but just removed the all checkmarks in the first Tip.. that helps.. but it dose not solve it.

My goal is to have a empty field when I search for anything.. or even better.. to remove the search function.

I hope that somebody can help me with this.

Best regard

The Pilot

A:How to REMOVE/DISABLE search results from charmbar search

I forgot to mention, that the Windows Search service is disabled and not running..

Clipboard not holding "Copy"

An odd thing has recently occurred on my otherwise perfectly running system (XP;Office 2002; IE7;OE; 2Gigs Memory). Sometimes I'll select/copy from a web site and go to a place (usually a word doc) I want to paste into and when I right click/paste or edit/paste the thing I copied is not there--in fact the paste option is not visible. I'm an intermediate user and have plenty of experience in copying and pasting. It is not happening all the time and is the exception in fact, but it seems to happen if I'm in IE and copy something and then go to a word doc or OE email to paste.( It doesn't happen w/in the same word document.) I then go back and chose copy and paste and it works. This isn't an isolated instance and it never happened until recently (no new installs). It's as if sometimes the clipboard sometimes isn't holding what I copy into it.

It happens when I copy and then open a new word document or new email draft--it's as if the intervening action removes the thing I copied from the clipboard.

By way of example, after typing this I right clicked, copied and went to paste into a word document to keep a copy and the paste option was not was not there. I then returned and did it again and it worked. If the destination file is open at the time of the copy the clipboard holds the copy and the paste function is working. If the destination file is not opened at the time of the copy and then I open it... Read more

I did the research on our forum and follow 3 different posts with similar resolved issues and I am still getting the same problem. So here I am with my own post.

Win XP SP 3
IE 8
McAfee
Dr. Web curit
Malwarebytes

Problem:
1. It started a few days ago with the "Antivirus Pro Alert", issues with pop ups and fake alerts. The fake alerts and pop ups was resolved by installing the "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" program.

2. After that I started noticing that my search results were always the same, no matter what subject I searched in Yahoo, Google or MSN I will get something like "www.toseeka.org, mycoupons.com,etc..." on the search page.

3. I tried several other remedies from similar posts and I am still having the same problem...not sure which virus, malware or whatever is on my system...please advice.

Thanks

Hi. I've recently noticed that Google search results are being odd, and sometimes it will redirect to ad-pages, etc...

I've attached a picture of what the search results look like; searching 'facebook' results in no listing for facebook.com coming up! I'm fairly sure there is a search hijacker happening somewhere.

I've done an Avast scan, and found and deleted the file Gaopdxserv.sys, in C:\Windows\system32\drivers. Does this file have anything to do with it? Avast didn't find anything else.

I'm using Windows Vista, and the browser I'm using is Firefox 3; it also occurs with Internet Explorer 7.

A:google search results in mfeed search

After a quick google search, the common issue appears to be this..:"It appears to be a browser hijacker for click through ads. Basically someone keeps redirecting you to their webpages so they can generate pay per click revenue. Very Common.Reset your homepage to Yahoo.Download and install SPybot Search and Destroy from link below. When installing turn on system setting protection and tea timer. These should prevent hijacking and will let you know when your homepage is changed. Download all updates, disconnect from the net and do a full scan. It should find your hijacker."http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.htmlI'm not really an expert, but it sounds like the problem your having.

So I click the circle-icon in the bottom left corner and in the text field it says "ask me anything." I type in "add remove" to bring up the Add/Remove Programs function - and I get no results. At all. All I get is a heading that reads "Here's Some Info For Your Evening." I'm on the house icon on the left sidebar. I used to get search results a few days ago, but I don't know what happened since then. Now, I get nothing, no matter what I input into the search field.

Microsoft sure didn't do enough beta testing before they decide to release this version. How to do things in this version are not obvious at all, and I'm not a computer novice.

A:Why don't I get search results from the Start > Search function?

Hi tricon7,

As for the "Add Remove" search you were referring to, it seems to be working fine on my system.

---------------------------------

Does this same behavior occur after restarting your system?

Did you perform a clean install of Windows 10 or did you perform the upgrade from an older version of Windows?

Hi guys,

I've read a number of posts here and on other forums but I am really stuck on this one. I have a staff member who has the following problem.
She looks after the complaints that come into the company. She will copy the email address from the original email into the "To:" section of a new email. She then opens a word document with a pre-written response and copies it to the email. BUT....when she tries to paste the document all she gets is the email address she copied earlier. This happens no matter the method she uses to copy and paste, ie using Ctrl C and Ctrl V or from the menu.
She is able to copy to and from like programs, eg she can copy from one word document to another, an excel spreadsheet to another excel spreadsheet and so on.
Also at one stage while I was connected to her machine via TeamViewer I copied some text on my machine and pasted it to an email. When she tried to copy and paste some text she got my copied text!
This is what I have done.

Uninstalled then re-installed Microsoft Office 2007.
Updated both OS, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and the Office Suite.

These steps have not helped. I'm starting to suspect there is something wrong with the clipboard/caching function but am not sure.

Any suggestions?

Sean

Quote:
Describing the problem made me think it might be related to the Outlook/office Paste options (Tools > Options > Mail Format > Editor Options.. > Advanced > Cut, Copy & Paste)

I had them all set to Match Destination Formatting. Now I've changed them to the Defaults ('Keep Source Formatting' for all except Pasting between emails when style definitions conflict: Use Destination Styles) and the problem appears to have gone away!

If I then change the options back to Match Destination Formatting the problem reappears.

Hi

I use Firefox. Yesterday morning, after no changes that I can remember, my Google search results all started to be directed to Copy-Book.com. At first, if I click on a result, I would be directed to Copy-Book.com and Google would indicate that the website was not accessible. Now, when I do a search the names of the results are single alphabet letters or there are no results at all and when I click on the letters, they direct me to Copy-Book and then redirect me to various virus control websites. Between before and now, I did do an AVG scan which resulted in no threats but some warnings which were in the IE active X folder and a couple of firefox cookies. I don't use IE but I did move them to the vault.

This only happens if I do the search via my home page which is Google or from my Google toolbar search. Also, I've noticed that the CACHE for my search results do not show up. Finally, my AVG link scanner does not work in the same way. (Works if I'm searching from other Google pages but not from my homepage or toolbar.)

Here are the posts you need. I probably need to apologize in advance for being a bit of an ignoramus on computer issues. Please be patient with me. Finally, please help and THANK YOU in advance!

What exactly is responsible for this and is there is a way to make it permanent.

For example if I search my 2tb hdd,the first time it will take some time to display the result but after that, everything I search for is displayed much much faster.

Search indexing is disabled and I know about the program Everything and similar

A:Fast search results after the first search?

I would enable Search Indexing to make searches much faster, include everywhere you want searched including external drives when they are plugged in. If it becomes slow for any reason, just rebuild the Index.

I've removed it twice as an option from the 'Manage Search Engines' dropdown menu and it keeps coming back. Malwarebytes hasn't found anything. Ugh. Hopefully you guys can help!

I ran Defogger and turned off CD emulation.

Is there a easier way to get find results?

A:Windows Search in File Explorer brings results, if I stop Windows Search service

Now with Windows 10 Windows Search works for me.
The specialty on my configuration was and is,
that data like documents and pictures are located
on the conventional hard drive. Other files are on SSD.
It was necessary to release the folders normally used from ?quick access? in file explorer and to add the really used data folders.
To have also the common access to the data folders I created junctions with
e.g.
cd /D C:\Users\mine
mklink /J Pictures H:\Users\mine\Pictures
But normally, now I use the items of the newly configured ?quick access? in file explorer.

Thanks all for communicate

I am running Win xp sp2 with AVG and ZA free editions. I use Firefox as my browser. The hard drive is 160gb with 2.85gh pentium 4 and 512 Mb of installed memory. I run Ad aware, CCleaner, Easy Cleaner, SB S&D, Spyware Blaster, ewido anti-malware and Scan defrag regularly & keep them updated.

The problem is that the Windows 'search results' box (asking me what i want to search for - pictures, documents, files etc) pops up repeatedly even though i have not initiated a search. The results boxes appear on top of whatever i am doing so that i have to click onto my internet page to make it active again. In say half a minute 30 or 40 search results boxes can appear. I close them down by 'close group' but they just reappear again. The problem is intermitant, but occurs at least once a day. Restarting helps for a short period of time, but the problem always comes back.

I'm not sure if this is linked, but also my inbox instead of showing a list of my emails sometimes changes to the 'google search page'. Again i need to restart the pc to get my inbox back to how it should be.

This problem started around the time that i downloaded a 'google update' a week or so ago. Not sure if this is just coincidence. I tried a system restore to a point before the download, but the problem remained.

Hi All
We are using Windows 10 Ent VDI, we set our IE settings for GPO preferences and have set enable under "Allow Programmatic clipboard access" for trusted sites and Internet. However, when using our internal Intranet, we are getting prompts to
allow access to the clipboard even though the site is in our trusted sites. If I disable the settings on the user?s session and then enable it again it works fine, unfortunately our machines are non-persistent so any changes are lost at logoff.
Any suggestions how to get this to work correctly?

Hi all -

Somehow my father has managed to get something on his computer that is bunging up his system. When I search for something on Google, it appears to return valid sites, but the URL listed under the search results are NOT the correct urls for the sites. (See attached JPG for example)

I've downloaded and run FixWareout, then Hijack This, then winpfind3u.exe (as was advised in several threads I've seen before.) Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to read them. Could someone read the files (attached) and let me know what I should do at this point?

Thanks!

I'm a newbie when it comes to removal of malware off my computer, and there's been one in particular called "get-search-results.com". I have not been able to get this malware off my computer. I checked one of the threads previously made, but I don't know if it applies to windows 7 and I don't want to try to follow the same thing and end up making my computer worse. This is the thread I saw on Bleeping Computer a little while ago, and it was a bit outdated based on the date it was posted:

Am I mistaken or has web searching becoming more difficult? It seems in the past I could put in a search word get a list of possible sites and find one in the list that stated exactly what I was looking for, click on it ag go directly to the site I wanted. Lately clicking on the listed item just takes me to another list of sites until I have brought up more and more tabs in my browser. Today I searched for "Anniversary Clip Art" . Although several listed sites reading "Anniversary Clip Art" appeared, clicking on them did not get me to a site with the material but only produce another listing of sites. before I knew it I had brought up six tabs and still did not get to a site with my material.

A:Search results

Well yes, because every troll is trying to drive hits to their sites, they include popular search keywords in their metadata, so that their sites will get hit even if no relevant content can be found there. And some yet subscribe to paid services to make sure their sites show up as top results. As for your case, I tried it myself and had no particular problem other than the top results required payment for the images; which is fine if you want to pay. When I changed the search to "free anniversary clip art" I had better luck although the quality of the graphics was so so. But I will agree with you, back in the days we did not have to jump through these hoops to find what we were looking for, so I have learned to be more targeted with my search keywords.

I recently have been having a bout with some malware. A couple days ago Defense Center showed up. I ran Malware Bytes, HijackThis, and Google's Spyware Doctor, both came up with threats (Defense Center being one of 'em) and fixed/quarantined them. Restarted, then ran for about 30 minutes and then AV Security Suite popped up. Ran the stuff again, caught AV Security Suite and fixed/quarantined it. Restarted, and got AV Security Suite popping up again!

I uninstalled Firefox, IE, and Java, ran Malware Byes, HijackThis, and Spyware Doctor, and restarted. Things seem to be going better now, but when I browse the net, specifically Google searches, I get redirected to random sites ending in /search.php or /results.php. However, none of the programs catch any malware at all, I've updated them all, but still nothing. But I know something's taking over.

Any help?

Thanks!

I came here from the Norton forums.
When I start IE, my home page is Yahoo, I put in a search term and the resulting links are wrong for the sites I know are out there.
ex-I put in Star Trek planets, the results should show Memory-Alpha (site) or Star Trek.com. Instead it get links to shopping sites, virus scanning sites, ect.
So far I have done the following-
1-Downloaded Malwarebytes updated it and did a full scan in safe mode. Result were 4 item, all removed, follow up scans show nothing.
2-Downloaded SuperAntispyware, updated it and did a full system scan in safe mode. Results were alot of cookies. All were removed and follow up scans show nothing.
3-Updated Norton Antivirus, ran a full system scan in safe mode. Results were nothing found.
4-Downloaded and ran Hijackthis, with the help of "Quads" over at the Norton forum, he told me what to check to fix.

That leads me to here.
One funny thing-I have IE set up so it promts me on running scripts and ActiveX controls. If I say no to scripts when IE loads up and after clicking the "Search" button, my links all come out like they should in the search results.

So I am asking you guys, what should or could I do next to fix this inconvience?

Thanks,
Tim

Is there anyone out there? I'm still having this problem.

Hi,

I am having this problem in my laptop whenever I search using Google/Yahoo/Bing I get the search results back. Clicking on any of the search results redirects me to unwanted sites instead of the actual site.

I have tried different anti-spyware tools but none of them found a problem. Here are the list of anti-spywares used:

1. MBAM (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware)
2. Spybot Search and Destroy
3. Hitman Pro

I also tried to TDSSKiller but it doesn't run on my laptop.

Need help to resolve this problem.

Thanks

A:Search Results Redirected.

Hello did Malwarebytes and/or TDSS Killer find anything? What is your Operating system?

symptons: IE search results are hijacked. Cannot boot to safe mode.
Already cleaned with Super Anti spyware.
Norton EndPoint protection scanned clean this evening (but this morning quarantined three trojans).

When I do a google search, I am presented with a lot of finds. Normally, I would click on

one of the results and would be sent to the proper web site and in most cases the website

would appear with an appropriate page that would be associated with my inquiry.

Now I get another website that generally is like those website that promise to have answers

as to the location that I am assumed to need such as ask.com or yellow pages; in other words

the fourth rate web sites of wannabe googles. I guess they get a commission for referrals.

Often the page freezes and Mozilla crashes. It also happens on IE as well.

If I actually copy that part of the address that will take me to the website home page and I

eliminate the trailing edge of the address that is presented by google as a result, I can

get to the website's home page, but then I have to manually search for the reason (the

subject of my original inquiry) at that web site.

I have tries some adware scans but to no good.

It is as if they are hijacking google results to searches to put their desired search site

in my face.

I don't know if this could be considered malware or spyware or virus or theft, but I would

like to continue to use google, but currently google isn't working for me.

A:why are my search results are being redirected?

For about a week, whenever I run a Yahoo search and click one of the links, it won't take me where I'm trying to go. For instance, if click a link for wikipedia.com, instead I'm taken to something like umbrelladepot.com. But the page won't load, the screen just stays white. When I first noticed this, I scanned with both my antivirus and an antispyware. A few things came up with the scans, and I quarantined them thinking that would take care of the problem, but no such luck. Now when I scan, the results come back clean and I'm not sure what to do next.

I have run Malwarebytes & AVG to clean up problems until I got clean scans, but am still being redirected when clicking on search result links. (Google, Yahoo, MSN, AVG secured search )I am attaching DDS and GMER Log, please advise what other logs you would like me to create. Before coming to bleepingcomputer and reading the 'do not run combofix unless asked to', I had already run it and so will attach that as well. (sorry!)FYI, McAfee is no longer installed on this machine, but it appears there are remnants left behind.Any help to solve the redirect problem would be appreciated.Thank you!

Hello! I hope someone out there can help me, because I am personally not equipped to do anything more complicated than running virus scans! I'm running Windows vista.
If I want to search something in Google or Yahoo, an advertisement would open up instead of the search results, would redirect all the Google queries to advertisements or other search engines. I've tried full scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50 and Iím also attaching HijackThis file which I ran after Malwarebytes' deleted Tojans and Malware as well as DDS, attaching attach.txt, GMER and ark.txt.
Again thanks in advance
