Windows 7 in bootcamp partition- won't start after being fine for year

Q: Windows 7 in bootcamp partition- won't start after being fine for year

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum and I need help desperately!
I have Windows 7x64 boot camped on my Imac (Snow Leopard)
All is fine on the mac side but the windows side, not so much.
When I boot into windows it starts, the windows logo comes up.
Then the black screen with white cursor (cursor is moveable)
The colored circle spins about 3 times and goes away.
25-30 min later the blue welcome screen comes on.
I will get the 0x80070017 error
Seems as the whole system has gone from 100mph to 1/4 mph
In my memory it seems that the windows side was in the process
of updating (which it seems to do every hour) like 1 of 8 and
don't you dare interrupt. I think I did the unthinkable!
I shut it down and booted back to the mac.
So when I try to boot back to the W7 it looks like it's pay back time.
Iv'e tried safe mode, system restore (which has said it failed while
copying the registry from the restore point, an unspecified error ocured
during system restore)
I do not see any explanation points in my device manager.
Any help to fix this would be so appreciated. Iv'e been working on this a week!

That error message has to do with a bad media. Were you trying to install Windows using a DVD ? I sugguest you use a USB flash drive . Click this link to see how to go about creating a bootable USB drive with Windows 7 installation files.

T7600 and T5600 were working fine. i stored them away for year. i opened them and now they both do not start. shows yellow 3 and 4 with power button lit. what could be the issue?

A:T7600 and T5600 were working fine. i stored them away for year. i opened them and now they both do not start. shows yellow 3 and 4 with power button lit

Start off by replacing the motherboard batteries on both because they're probably dead.

Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case, remove battery (see each model's service manual on Dell's Support site for details)
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Install fresh 3-volt CR2032 lithium ion battery (~$2)
Close case and try to boot with only mouse, monitor and keyboard connected

Basically what I am trying to do is scan a hard drive that I took out from a Dell machine and connected through a usb hi speed IDE adapter to my macbook pro. I want to run Combofix under the bootcamp partition. Is it safe?

I installed windows 7 on my macbook just a few weeks ago and when i am on my mac side the sound does not work.. i have installed my snow leopard CD on my windows side and (i think) installed all the drivers and still my sound does not work.
Also when i try to play some games like GTA 4 the graphics are limited to a very low on 800X600.

Can anyone help me solve this problem (getting the sound working and all the graphics side up to date)?

There might be someone who has a similar configuration to yours that may be able to help, but unfortunately I can't. In the meantime, have you tried looking at Apple - Support - Discussions - Boot Camp to see if your issue has been addressed? You might need to post your query there.

I'm having strange problems installing Far Cry on to my computer.

Here's the kicker: I ran it a year ago on the same computer and then tried to uninstall it using the Program Files under control panel for Windows Vista.

Apparently, Far Cry doesn't like that.

So I tried removing it and I guess it was only partial because now when I try to install Far Cry it tells me that CRYSYSTEM.DLL loading failed. As I understand it Far Cry is still partially on my computer and is blocking me.

I tried downloading this game a few times and it told me it failed but it did fill up my hard drive.

First question: how do I find these surplus files and remove them to free some space on my hard drive.

Second question: how do I load Far Cry up without having to buy some registry program? I'm okay with a free one but don't feel like paying for it because I could just run this game on my clumsy xp windows laptop, I suspect.

Here are my specs:

I built a computer and activated Windows 7 Pro on it. I used it occasionally for about one year, with no difficulties. Then I made some hardware changes. I added a solid state disk and moved the OS to it. I removed several small HDs that I had used only to verify that all the ports on the MB worked. I added a 2TB disk. A few hours or days later I got the black screen and the not genuine messages.

I have tried several means to make the system appear appear legal to MS, including some from here. They all seem to be doing something, but all end with error code C004E003, licensing service reported that license evaluation failed.

I suspect that the source of the W7pro software is related to this problem, perhaps as a cause, but at least as a complication. I bought it on eBay from someone that claimed he put Linus on his new Dell
computer without ever booting the W7pro that was installed at Dell. Before buying, I checked on the web and that seemed to be a fairly common and legal approach. The DVD arrived in a sealed envelope with a Dell bar code and part number. A smaller sealed envelope attached to it had the license key inside.

After trying all the claimed fixes I could find, I called Microsoft Activation center at 888-352-7140. They admit it is MS software that set the bit in a DB that causes C004E003. They either can not, or will not tell me what is wrong that caused the bit to be set. They also say that only Dell can unset the bit.

So I called Dell. I talked... Read more

A:Activated fine for one year, now suddenly not genuine

Hi Chuck,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its a non-genuine install, you were sold a pup

Your very first words "i built a computer"
Means that the only types of product key you can use legitamately are
OEM System Builder

You have a OEM only key, for use solely on Factory built models.
The product ID data, i believe, was for use on demo machines.

MS picked it up as non genuine when you started swapping your HDD's/SSD's
There is no way you can check to see if a 25 character key is genuine or not UNTIL its been on a comp for roughly 90 days, when MS performs a major genuine check.
The slmgr/rearm you used will only work another 2 times.

Hey SevenForums.

I've had my system just comming upto 12 months now and this is the first time ive experienced a BSOD. Since the 18th January ive had 2 BSOD's a day. The first time I noticed it I was playing music with WMP, then a couple where from browsing the internet with Firefox, and the most recent one was when I was copying some files to a CD with Nero.

Not sure what has caused the problem either. The only recent thing I can think of is when I plugged in a 3.5mm jack into my Soundcard for Line-Input, thats about it.

Included is the .zip recomended by the sticky, below is a minidump i get when Windows recovers.

I am recently starting to experience a serious problem with IE8 (as well as a few applications like MS Word, where it takes a long time to bring up a new document) I am running XP on a 7 year old Dell Dimension 4600i (purchased new in 2004). The problem I am noticing the most is after starting IE8. A web page will take a very long time loading and all the while will scrolling down to the bottom while I attempt to pull the scroll bar up to the top of the page. I am also experiencing Media PLayer having difficulty too. Some videos will sometime stop and then start running again and that process repeats until the end of the video. I re-set IE8 two days ago and nothing improved the situation. I installed Advanced System Optimizer v.3 a week ago to tweek the PC. Nothing significantly improved the problem with slow speed and hanging up. I uninstalled the Kodak software and still no improvement. My best guess is the system has been probably infexted with malware and/or viruses. I had XP re-installed a year ago by a professional computer technicain after the blue scree of death occured. Everything was working fine until about three weeks ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated if someon can help me because I'm ready to be fit for a staight jacket. This type of problem has never happened to me before.
Thank you in advance.

I have a Windows 7 Professional system that I went to take an image of using EASEUS TODO Workstation. When I went to do the backup, I noticed that there was no 100 MB System Reserved Partition. I made the image anyway.

When I tested the image on a new machine, it prompted me to repair or start windows normally. Unable to start normally, so I did the repair. After about 10 min, the system came back and said it cannot repair.

Outside of start a system from scratch, is there a way I can get the system reserved partition out of the Windows 7 partition?

A:System Reserved partition is missing, but WIndows 7 Pro works fine

If your original Professional system did not have a System Reserved partition, any image of it will not have the partition either. That image should still restore to the original PC properly and be bootable.

The System Reserved partition is not necessary. I have never had one.

Something else is going on.

You say you "tested the image on a new machine". That's probably the problem. Images are intended to be restored to the machine from which they were made, not to "a new machine".

I have run sfc /scannow and it found nothing wrong....memory is fine...diskcheck fine.....

on checking about in safe mode as that's the only place the partition popup does not appear...I did get 'no system image appear'....can this be correct if the windows has installed and the checks I have done so far have come back fine....I would appreciate help guys as this is getting rather annoying

I recently purchased a new Alienware Laptop with Windows 10 installed. I'm having issues where on start-up, programs such as File Explorer, Internet Explorer etc. are taking 5-10 mins to load, whilst Apps such as Windows Edge load straight away. If I also try to open say my C Drive on File Explorer once it loads, I just get the Blue Loading Disc for another 5-10 mins until that loads.

But if I restart my laptop, everything then seems to run fine after that (but obviously I don't want to have to keep doing that as a permanent solution). I'll run a Virus Scan and make sure there's nothing bad on there but has anybody seen anything like this before and can offer some assistance?

A:Windows 10 Explorer Problems at Start Up But Fine on Reboot

I've seen that happen but it was some time ago, back in the days when computers started becoming faster processing but the HDDs were not keeping up in access speed, about when the 80486 was giving way to the Pentium-class processors. The initial bootup was faster than the HDD could deliver data but the reboot happened fast enough the HDD hadn't fully shut down, was still spinning. All that to say your situation may be a problem developing with the HDD.

I just bought this laptop. Samsung Series 9 NP900X1A-A01US 11.6-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories

I know the specs aren't amazing, and I can't expect the performance I get from my built desktop, but I primarily bought this for something portable for school.

Anyway, took it out of the box, started it up, everything worked great. Installed two programs (chrome and Avast), restarted after installs and played with it some.

Then I shut it down to let it charged. Turned it back on and it freezes within a minute or two after startup everytime, works fine in Safe Mode.

I would try a restore, but never created a restore point as soon as I bought it, silly me.

Any ideas?

A:New Laptop, Worked fine, now Windows 7 locks up right after start up.

Contact where you bought it and make them fix it, or use the built in recovery partition to restore it to factory new state. According to the manual, you press F4 during boot to start the Recovery.

I installed windows 7 32-bit on my 2010 macbook via bootcamp and after a lot of messing around with drivers, I finally got everything to work. I went to the properties of my harddisk and defragmented, cleaned and finally wanted to check the disk for problems so I'd know everything is perfect. I had to restart to let the system check the disk so I did.

Now when I boot windows 7 I get a black screen with this on it:
"DMQJP is compressed.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart."

My macbook doesn't have a delete button, so when I want to open task manager I use Ctrl+Alt+fn+backspace. But this doesn't work in the screen I get! It won't react to any button or combination of buttons so I'm stuck in the black screen without being able to log in.

How can I fix this?

Hi, I've had Windows 10 Pro installed on My iMac since it came out and haven't had any problems with it. Yesterday, I went to boot into it and it gave me a blue screen that said SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. I was able to boot into safe mode and save all my files but I could not find the problem. I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro expecting it to fix everything but after the installation I got the error again (Not immediately). I booted up, signed in, ran the bootcamp manager (installs drivers for wifi, trackpad, keyboard, camera, etc.) After that I restarted and everything was working fine. Then I went to download Office 365 and reinstall it, before I could even start the download the screen flickered then went black then I got the blue screen with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION again.

Other then the bootcamp drivers I had not installed anything else but I had the bootcamp drivers running on the computer since last year and they have never caused any issues and are also necessary for running Windows on a Mac.

For anyone who doesn't know what BootCamp is, it basically the same as dual booting just on a Mac.

Anyway, does anyone know how I can figure out whats causing the problem and fix it? I can boot into safe mode to receive dump files etc. Also, I don't have any issues when running Mac so I don't think it's a hardware problem but maybe it could be.

and nothing else, and installed the bootcamp drivers once in windows. The first time it BSoDed a few minutes ago I had not installed any Windows updates. However, I have also tried various things, including: creating the bootable USB in Windows, using dd in

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 on my Mac using Bootcamp and have been getting the BSOD. The computer makes a horrible noise, then it's a black screen with a blue square which contains info, but doesn't stay up long enough to read.

It's Windows 64bit, installed using Bootcamp. The Mac is from 2010, Windows was installed a few weeks ago. I'm using it to run Sony Vegas 11 and have an external drive formatted to HFS+. I'm using MacDrive to use it on Windows.

I don't know much about Windows, but followed the instructions for posting the dump file. Hopefully it works.

A:Windows 7 on Bootcamp BSOD

Nothing attached.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

make sure you have all the drivers you need standing by on disc.... so you don't need to download anything once you're installing. Check and doublecheck that you have everything.....

Also, as soon as you've installed windows, do a defrag, then set a manual restorepoint so you have a blank point to get back to. Even better is doing a ghost image to a cd or an empty HD drive....

Then, what I usually do is defrag after every big install (like office) and after 3 smaller installs (firefox, VLC, that sort of thing....). I'm sort of neurotic with this...

I also make a list beforehand as to which things I want to install on it exactly....... so I can determine a good order in which to install....

I Installed windows XP on my Apple computer when the Bootcamp Beta version came out....A couple of days ago I was starting up Windows Xp, and it started up fine, but when it got to the desktop, it froze. I tried restarting many times, all with the same result....I started up in safe mode, which worked, and i ran an antivirus scanner, but it didnt pickup anything...being that my Av software was a little outdated, I thought that maybe it hadnt picked up the virus, so i uninstalled Windows XP thinking that there was no hope....then, i reinstalled it, only to find the exact same problem.....the iinstallation went perfect, but the moment i turned the computer on to Windows Xp, it froze....Now, im thinking that it might be a video driver problem..My Apple partition of bootcamp still works perfectly fine....Can anybody help me?

A:Windows XP freezing on startup (in Bootcamp)

If it works in Safe Mode, and not in Normal Mode, chances are it's a 3rd Party Application that is causing the freeze.

Do this:

Start>Run>(type)"msconfig" and turn off all non-MS Services and all Startups.

Then reboot and see what happens.

If the problem goes away, then it's something you've turned off that is the cause. If they problem stays, it's either a MS problem, or you have a hardware issue.

I had been doing some work on my osx partition of the hard drive when i then went to boot into windows i was in the other room although i could just hear my mac rebooting... when i got back i saw that the computer was blue screening and restarting :S

Without a ton more info I would say run a system file check if you can and a repair install if you cant.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I've tried to google about this but I can't really get any help regarding this. I thought it'd be better if I could have some advise about this.

Basically, I have to deploy Windows 10 Enterprise to many macbooks (different hdd space).

The problem I'm facing is the fact that each macbook on "El Capitan" will have to download the drivers and then proceed to install Windows 10.

Is there any way which I can bypass the downloading of the bootcamp drivers? Like in the previous OS versions, I'm able to use a dummy USB drive to "bypass" the need for bootcamp driver and then install it manually later.

Does anyone have any suggestion on what I can do?

Is there a tool which I can use to create the partition and also at the same time allows Boot Camp Assistant to recognize it as a Windows partition?

I've been running Windows 7 for about a week or so on my Macbook and all of a sudden tonight it started crashing to the BSOD. It says something about "applemt.sys" or maybe it was "applemnt.sys". The BSOD is too quick to capture all the details, unless there is a way that I don't know about?

I am currently using the Mac OSX partition as the Windows partition will crash after about 10mins. I'll include the minidumps here. Thank you!

Hi mhat and welcome

well it is not as easy as just running a debugger on a win 7 dmp. the symbols, and drivers are different on a mac. I can tell you that I took a alook at 3 dmps and they all pointed to memory. I dont know if the usual memory tedt will work but here goes

Dl and run memtestx86 for several hours at least

Dl and install an app to monitor temps (like cpu-z, anf gpu-x)

run a system file check (may puke and die)
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

the below drivers are either old or if current were involed in the crashes.

Hope this helps Kenn J++

A:Need Help with Bootcamp Dual boot with windows 7

Hi, before I start an I ask for a couple of pieces of info from you.

1) The Exact model of your Macbook (eg Late 2008 like mine) including rough specifications (processor, RAM, Hard Drive etc.).

2) What version of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Pro/32bit, 64bit) and what you used to install it (Bootcamp 3.1, 2.0 etc.).
It sounds like you've managed to password protect your EFI (Mac equivalent of a BIOS) which I can't help you with at this point in time, if you've set this up before try and remember the password.

The lack of a chime on startup could either suggest that you've muted it (using the volume controls on startup) or that something is quite badly wrong (probably the first one though). Try unmuting/turning the volume up during startup and seeing if anything happens. This will help us diagnose the problem.

Being unable to boot into your OS X install DVD is strange if you can boot into, Linux Live CDs.

Try booting into your OS X install disk again using the key combos; sometimes these things miraculously fix themselves.

Make sure nothing is plugged in to your Mac except the power cable if needed.

Post back with any results.

I just rebooted my MacBook pro retina and reinstalled windows 10 via bootcamp. I have an external ssd and I usually rely on thunderbolt. It also have usb 3. Problem is, thunderbolt is not being recognized in windows 10. It works with the os x partition. So I am trying to find the correct driver to get it working. I formatted the drive to exFat to work with both os x and windows 10. I want to transfer files back and forth like music, photos and apps. Anyways, my main problem is trying to get the thunderbolt drive to work. My external drive lights up but nothing picks up on windows. Any help I can get? Thanks in advance.

A:A disk read error occured. Other partition is fine tho?!?!

Hello Kieonsegg,

I am taking that this is a desktop ?

This is your issue

Your (D) drive needs your (C) drive to get to the point so you can tell it to load and since your (C) is corrupt you will not be able to get into your (D) drive for it works from the master boot record of the (C) drive , so this makes both drives non-accessible technically

What you need to do to get your files is but a tool from a repair shop near you or from a online store / this tool should only cost you from $20 to $30 depending on where you buy it

You will need another computer with 2.0 highspeed usb ports but this will work on slower usb ports

You will need to remove the drive from the computer and atach to the tool then hook it up to the working computer and then you will be able to access the drive as if its an exsternal drive and recover your files and explore the (D) drive

Here is a link to the type of tool you will need

I have this very one and it works awsome and with any type of hard drive

Also you will need to follow this link so that you can download a program to erase the drive (zero it out & make it like new ) so you can have no issues when reformating and partitioning

You will want the (dos & window suite) Killdisk (free) version 5.1 and have the ability to make a bootable cd rom disk

Let me know how it goes

My computer has gone to the black screen , with the blue screen insert, explaining a fatal error has occurred...
And this AM I got this message (see attached)
I am considering wiping my windows side out-- but am concerned it is a greater issue...

The OSX side is fine but I need to run Autocad and the OSX Autocad stinks....

If you've already tried all that, can you give some more technical details about your problem?

I have installed Windows 7 on Mac Bootcamp. It has been working perfectly fine for the past year but it is now restricting me to login with a black screen. The last time Windows 7 worked, I closed my laptop cover to put it to sleep. I came back to find that I was greeted with a black screen after opening my laptop. I rebooted my computer multiple times but the outcome is always the same: I would see the Windows icon (4 coloured squares), it would then show my cursor and then the screen would go black. I have tried to repair my computer but it says that there are no errors. I also tried to check for any other possible errors but they all come out negative. Please help me, as I have many important essays on my Windows partition.

Thank you so much for your time! It is very appreciated.

A:Bootcamp Windows 7 Black Screen Before Login

I'm not familiar with Apple computers or Bootcamp, so I may not even ask the right questions.

Did you have it set to prompt for a password when awakening from sleep? What did you do when you first encountered the black screen (hold the power button to force a power off?)?

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Or 'last good configuration'?

You can still boot to the MAC OS, right? And use that to copy any data that is not backed up?

Hi, So i just bought a new iMac downloaded bootcamp and install Windows XP on it. Almost everything works fine, apart from the internet. I will always find the connection and say the signal is strong, generally 3-4/5, but the internet is really slow and sometimes will just time out because it takes so long to load. All of this is on Windows XP, Mac OS X works perfectly and the internet works very fast, I'm using a new Netgear wireless router. The reason I've install Windows is because i play Final Fantasy XI (FFXI online mmorpg) which you cant get for Mac, and yes i know everyone says Macs are bad for gaming but its a low requirement game and works fine apart from the internet. In FFXI it tells you sent and recieved data as well as a percent. When the internet slows down or grinds almost to a halt the sent stays normal but the recieved drops to 0 and if it stays at 0 then it will timeout and disconnect me from the game server. Sometimes this will not happen for hours on end, but sometimes it will happen every 20-30mins.

I dont know if this is to do with XPs compatability with the inbuilt wireless of my iMac. I've tried turning off both the Mac and router off for long periods of time and it make no difference what so ever.

Not sure when specs or information you might need, so let me know and ill post it.

Once again, the internet works flawlessly on Mac OS X. But laggy and even almost stopped on windows XP (bootcamp).

Thanks for you help!

I'm having trouble installing Windows 7 on a Bootcamp partition. Reading through the sticky topics, I noticed one subject that seemed to be my problem: whenever the system reboots during installation, it simply goes back to the beginning of the install process. It mentions that Diskpart may be able to help me here, but...

Does it work on Mac OS X? It's kind of the only working partition at the moment, so I have to download it on that one. I simply wish to know if Diskpart is a viable option even through the mac partition. I figured I would ask just in case it did work but didn't work the same way (don't want to go poking around the wrong files and mess up the working half of my laptop, eh?).

Thank you for your time.

...erm, yes, I should probably mention that Windows 7 had existed on this drive before, but I had to format said drive and this is a reinstallation attempt.

I accidentally deleted the EFI partition, required to boot into my Win 8.1 installation - unbeknownst to me that EFI partition was on a different disk to where my Windows is located. To complicate matters the Windows install is on a RAID0 array.
Windows repair using the original install media didn't work.
EasyRE didn't detect the RAID0 drive.
I saw various instructions on how to reconstruct the EFI partition, but they all assumed that the EFI partition is still there, which in my case it isn't.
Does anyone know what I could try, or at the very least how I can get my data off that drive and re-install Windows?

A:Windows 8 can't start due to missing EFI partition

How can I install Windows 7 on my external hard drive using Bootcamp on my Mac?

Do not say it would be slow. I installed Mac OS X on it and it works just as fast as on my internal drive and there are no problems at all.

A:Install Windows 7 on external hard drive using Bootcamp

The Bootcamps I've encountered run Win7 poorly.

MS works hard to keep their OS's off of external media since they could then be moved around at will and would not hold legal activation. The bottleneck is mainly USB2. Try USB3. Win8 is being designed to run on it.

My daughter has a MacBook on which we successfully managed to install Windows 7 using the Bootcamp facility. (Nobody in the family had any experience with Macs so running Windows was seen as the easiest option). I used to run the Windows 7 backup utility for her. (Whether a restore would ever have been possible, I do not know, but that's another question!) Last week, after much prompting, we upgraded it to Windows 10. Everything appeared to go smoothly. However, when I ran the Windows 7 backup utility buried within Windows 10, it failed with error 0x81000019.

I've looked at solutions on the internet, including under, but few mention having the problem running under Bootcamp. A number involve using tools to change partition sizes. However, the Apple support site seems to infer that one shouldn't use third party tools to change partitions made by Bootcamp. Another solution mentioned assigning a drive letter to the Recovery partition. However, all options seemed to be disabled when I attempted that avenue.

Well, I decided to try to triple boot my mac and I was met by a world of frustration and the need to chain smoke.

I had OSX and Windows 7 Ultimate via bootcamp installed and working wonderfully. I tried to install ubuntu and the keyboard didn't work in the grub menu along with a slew of other difficulties, so I decided just to kick back to OSX and Windows and lose Ubuntu. What happened is I started receiving the dreaded "Unknown Device String" error upon my trying to boot windows from bootcamp. I tried troubleshooting, and my only results were different errors in the same stage of booting, and blah blah blah... I tried a ton of different ways to repair windows mbr and and some other things, but I've decided to forget trying to fix the boot process.

What I'd like to do is create an image of my windows OS, minus the boot settings of course :) but since I can't access my windows OS, I've got to either do it from OSX or ubuntu. I'd then like to reinstall windows, and restore the OS I currently have. Is it possible? Any thoughts? Thanks for any input guys!

I installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 9,1 (non-Retina) and installed all the drivers. While everything is perfect, I have one issue and that is with Bluetooth. While it finds devices and adds them, that's all it does. No file transfers and nothing. Can anyone help me to troubleshoot this? I'll be grateful.

How You Installed Drivers ?
By Downloading in MacOS while Preparing Boot camp Partition or any other way.
Its pain to download at a time Bootcamp Partition preparation, but its good for working all drives flawlessly.

I think the problem comes from the last installation of partition magic 3 program in the windows 7. Now, when i start windows it goes to repairing starter and detect a problem with \\?\GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\Harddisk0\Partition3\Windows in Windows Directory. And the name of Problem is "StartupRepairOffice"

I hope my english is good enough to explain my problem

Thank you very much,

Carlos Correia

A:Windows dont start to run (Partition Magic 3)

Hello Carlos. Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Your problem is with Partition Magic 3, which is not compatible with Windows 7 and in particular the NTFS file system.

Chances are it has screwed up your hard disk partitions.

If you have a Windows 7 DVD you'll need to carry out a clean install.

If you have a recovery disk you'll need to use that to recover your system to its factory state.

I have a dual-boot configuration with Windows 7 and Fedora 14. I wanted to encrypt Windows partition using TrueCrypt, but it doesn't work when there is a separate "boot" partition for Windows.
That's what I've done:
1) Made the "boot" partition inactive and C: active.
2) Reinstalled bootloader to C: using bcdboot c:\Windows /s c:
3) In Fedora deleted that "boot" partition and updated GRUB configuration.
Windows 7 booted and everything worked fine.
4) Back in Fedora used gparted to move and resize Windows partition to fill unallocated space.
5) Reconfigured GRUB again.
After this operation I couldn't start Windows. I tried fixing it with Startup Repair from Windows 7 DVD, but it didn't work. Then I tried fixing it manually, with bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and /rebuildbcd. It said "Operation completed successfully", but Windows still doesn't boot.
Windows partition is fully accessible from Linux. Diskpart reports that it's the only active partition on my disk and Chkdsk doesn't detect any errors.
Do you have any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 doesn't start after partition moving

Something must have happend during step #4. I would have used Disk Management to recover the unallocated space.

If someone out there could help me I would be most appreciative.

Here is the story.

I have been inundated with pop-ups, brower high jacks, and my computer runs at a snails pace. To remedy this I have updated and ran CW Shreader, Spy Bot, and Ad-Adware 6.0. This has removed some things, but the more stubborn problems remain.

I also run Zone Alarm and noted that there are a few "programs" that want permission to access the Internet such as, VOs.exe, D.exe, CBJ.exe, dgNIVH.exe and explorer.exe. What are these?

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I'll spare the reintroduction :P

My specs:

ASUS M5A97 (AM3+) Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 945
2 x 4GB G-Skill Ripjaw DDR3 RAM
PNY Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX 1GB
A 1TB SATA HDD (can't remember the brand)

My issue is, I'll try to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate x64, not a new installation at all, and I get the "Windows is Starting" screen and the little colored balls, but after a few seconds I get a very very quick blue screen and reboot before Windows even loads. There's no way I can read the blue screen error.

So I thought, "Let's just do a startup repair." That didn't work; it said:

Root cause found:
The partition table does not have a valid System Partition

Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0

So I pop in the Windows 7 installation DVD; it tells me there are missing CD/DVD drivers. I point it to the Windows 7 drivers directory on my primary HDD, it still can't find anything.

So I load up my copy of MSDaRT. Some tools load, but it tells me "Tool requires a supported offline OS" under many of the tools, and the ones that do start won't do anything at all because they can't "see" my Windows 7 installation.

Any suggestions? I have an external HDD reader, but I'd rather not have to... Read more

Give me the number of disks please. and number of partitions on disks

I'm re-installing Vista 32Bit on a 250Gb SATA HDD, and want to make 2 partitions on it.

What I'm curious about is if i create say a 125Gb Partition, is that at the beginning {or outer} part of the drive, or is that in the middle?

I want it to be as quick as possible, so shall I use the partition I created, or the unpartitioned space?

Sorry if it seems pedantic, but the boot time is getting ridiculous {I get 5.4 on the "Vista Experience" thingamy so I should be sweet} and I want to milk every bit of speed out of it, if that word can be used in the same sentence as Vista!

A:Windows setup, create partition, start or end of drive?

A partition per se doesnt exist as a physical section, its not like you slice the disk in 2 and say "right all you progs on the inside and all you spare bits on the outside", a program or programs can be split across the entire disk as small chunks with part of the chunk telling the OS where the next bit is located, this is whhy Defrag is used, to take seperated data chunks and move them into a coherant and logical grouping and thus speed up disk reading.

if your boot time is getting slow do the usual things like remove unwanted startup programs and defrag the disk.

PS i dont know what the vista experience thingy is as I hate fu**in hate VIsta..

I found a post on this exact topic from back in 2010. I am trying to incorporate the code into my database and am not able to get the code to work if I make any changes. Here is the link to the previous thread:

I have also uploaded the database that was provided in the last post. If I try to change the field and object names I appear to be unsuccessful in having the code still work even when I change the items in the code as well. I woud like some help. I would like for there to be a field called "RequestDate" that has the date stamp that is keyed in by the user. Then after that is keyed in on the form the "AssignmentID" field is updated to the new assignment number. The "RequestDate"="Admit_Date" and "AssignmentID"="ActualFWCNumber". I am trying to do this in Access 2010. If I make changes either the number field doesn't autopopulate or the same number keeps repeating. Any and all assistance on this would be great.

I've read every post I could find on this so I'm sorry to ask another dumb question but here goes.

I created an access database (volunteer work) which has an autoincrement field to issue numbers to animals taken in at our shelter. My 'boss' (also a volunteer) wants this simple autoincrement changed to a value which begins with the two digit year and then has 4 digits, starting with 0001 which will increment sequentially and restart at 0001 with the new calendar year. Therefore, records will start with 10-0001, 10-0002, etc for this year and 11-0001, 11-0002 for next year.

I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook Pro running OSC 10.5.8. When I first got it I setup a dual boot with Win XP using Bootcamp.

The problem I have is that the Ethernet NIC port has stopped working and has a yellow exclamation in SYSTEM (its fine in OSX). I have uninstalled it but cannot install the drivers as I do not know what to install.

In SYSTEM HARDWARE it was listed as nForce but I do not know which version of nForce chipset is used in the MacBok Pro. Someone has mentioned upgrading Bootcamp but I do not know which version I currently have and it has also been suggested to simply re-use the drivers from the original install CD, I have them but cannot see where to get the drivers from.

I have an installation folder on my main machine(Windows 7) with all my software. I have repeatedly run into issues connecting odd devices to my shared folder. This time I have installed Windows 10 Technical Preview (on a different machine) and don't understand why it tells me I can't access my own machine. After all these years, you would think user friendly would be a reality. It seems to be a coin toss as to which machines will connect. I hate never knowing I can access my own machine without issue. Here I am trying to install applications but yet I can't get to my storage location.

What is the secret to sharing your machine, so that anyone on the same network can access shared folders?

Edit: I always turn on "Network Discovery" and "File and Print Sharing".

outbound allow tcp/udp from any to for ports 137-139,445

hey guys
so i finally decided to install win7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense :-/

Hello all. Im having difficulty with my PC crashing several times after a cold start. It crashes at various points - usually the first is after a succesful boot into winxp but after this can be anywhere during the boot or after.

Since it started doing this (I cant think of what the trigger could have been) the memory has been replaced/upgraded from the original 256 to 2 new 512 sticks, the PSU has been upgraded to a 400W peak unit and the HDD has been replaced and all software reinstalled (one crash killed the old HDD). And still it crashes.

For a period of 2 or 3 weeks after the new memory was installed it didnt crash but slowly worked its way back up to 3 or 4 crashes every time it is cold started. Ive checked the memory with memtest86 and come up with nothing.

Its a 1.2 GHz AMD althlon, 512 RAM, 16mb nvidia riva tnt video card, wireless network card, regular network card, 1xhdd, 1x dvd, 1x floppy, 400w peak psu.

I believe you have a new HP laptop. First you want to check to make sure it is not a hardware problem.
You can the HP Diagnostic test by:

Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) home page displays.

Run tests and watch the Keyboard test carefully! If there is hardware related, you can then call HP to initiate the repair process. It can be a keyboard controller problem or a software problem?

So my computer seems to have about a 2/3 chance of BSODing in the first few minutes of running. After that, I encounter almost zero problems, aside from some weird issue with Windows Update (I haven't been able to install any updates), but that's for another thread. The BSOD seems to show one of two errors, so I'll post both here.

Before that though, I also want to say that I did have some weird problems with this computer previously, probably due to OS corruption, but I'm currently running a very fresh install, with not a whole lot on it. The weird thing is, it still looks like OS corruption, and you'll see why in at least one of the two BSOD codes. The installation disc actually had a bit of trouble unloading its files properly, because it said files were missing a few times before installing. I have a friend who had the same issue with Win7 though, so I don't think that's as out-of-the-ordinary as it sounds.

A:Computer either BSOD's after start-up, or runs fine

Looks like hardware issues but without the dumps, it's a guess. The 0x1A is memory corruption from a read stream. Perhaps from disk. 0x24 is a NTFS file error. Given those, it appears you have a corrupt disk. Try running chkdsk /r and let Windows schedule the autochk at reboot (for drive C). After that, run SFC /scannow from an elevated command prompt to verify system files and the registry.

Forgot to mention: After the disk problem is fixed, you need to update Windows. There's critical updates in SP1 that are essential to Windows functions.

Hi all, hoping for any assistance as to how to fix, or even diagnose, the problem here.

This is a bit long, and I'm not sure what's related and what's not.

My issue is that when I start up in the morning, my computer will freeze after about 2 - 3 minutes. Not BSOD, but just simply freezes- and if audio happens to be playing at the time, the last few seconds will continue looping. I have to do a hard reset, and after that, everything is fine for the rest of the day.

The freeze occurs regardless of what I'm doing. I can start up and let it sit on the windows login screen, or I can actually log onto my profile and let it sit at my desktop, or I can log on and start browsing the internet/running applications/whatever. It will freeze regardless, after a short few minutes. Then, after I do a hard reset, it acts totally normally. I can run it for hours, and regardless of what applications, or how much usage vs. idle time, or whatever, I have no problems. Then I shut down for the evening, and the next morning, it happens all over again. It only happens once (very first start-up). Maybe once or twice in the month+ since this has been happening, has it frozen after that first hard reset of the day. Very rare.

I was living with the issue while I tried to figure out what the problem was until yesterday. Yesterday (after the first start up, and then hard reset), I got a red warning balloon from Avast (paid version) saying that my virus definitions had not been upd... Read more

My computer was a little slow to start and I found the PC HealthAdvisor was forced to "call" in to activate the download and they took remote control of my computer. Suddenly something that was just meant to tweak my computer to speed it up turned into my computer was in "critical" condition and in need of me spending $200 for a microsoft certified tech to fix it. They were using a very hard sell showed me my computer had 20,000 events lots of warnings and errors. He told me my computer was in danger of crashing I should have taken care of it better. I am a software user and by that I mean I can use the basic office package and do some neat tricks with it, but by no means an expert and I can get around in the internet again certainly can not make it do everything it has the ability to do. I have no clue what an event code is let alone how the heck to fix it. and I really don't have $200 bucks right at this point to have them fix it. So any one go any ideas where to start with the 20,000 errors?

A:Slow start up but computer seems to be working fine otherwise

I would first try to set it back to an early restore point and if that does not help reinstall Windows from the recovery partition (but for that you have to save your own files first). If you still have the slow boot problem, we can try to fix that - this is usually pretty easy.

But in no way pay those suckers $200 - that is ludicrous.

If you need any help with the above mentioned steps, let us know.

Windows 7, 64 bit. Connected through router. Internet works fine. There are downloads and updates going on, no problem. The moment I start browsing, everything goes down and there's no browsing or downloading or any activity. It remains this way for a few minutes then comes back up. It keeps happening over and over again.

I'd really appreciate any help I could get for this strange problem.

A:Internet is fine. I start browsing, and it goes down. Solution?

Which browser? Have you tried an alternative browser such as Chrome or Firefox if you are now using IE

Had a problem with a virus and all sorted bar one problem. The PC boots up fine applications run excel word firefox etc but none of the services will run. So have no printers internet connection etc. Went into my computer, manage, services and tried to start them from there but none will. Have I deleted a default registry key or something to do with winlogon so no services run? It seems so close to be fully operational don't really want to reload the whole hard disk. Device manager tells me everything is OK and all drivers are there. It seems to be a services startup problem. I was rather hoping xp would recreate a default key to make all the services work! Silly me! Hoping this is a straightforward fix. Thanks in advance for suggestions - apart from I should have been more careful. Cheers

My computer came with one great big partition, with XP Home installed on it. For four months all my data got stored on that same partition. Then I got partition magic, and decided to make a separate partition for all my files. This turned out to be too small, after I'd transfered all my music, plus my work files to it. I then tried to repartition the drive, taking most of the spare space from the XP drive and giving it to the data drive.
Just as it started to widen the Data drive, and after shrinking the XP drive, it crashed. Now XP doesn't boot, and my data partition is corrupted too.
I've been daft and so have no backup of my data, and no partition magic back-up floppies. Is there anyway I can get the data back?

If it's any help, Ubuntu is also on the laptop, and working fine.

A:Partition Magic 8 has corrupted Windows partition and Data partition

Do you have the installation CD? If so, "BART PE" may be the solution. I have used it with success. Here is the link:

I have vista 32bit home premium. Here is the link to the specs page for the machine.

HP Pavilion Elite m9150f Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion Elite m9150f Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I have bitdefender internet security 2012 installed and no overclocking or customizing.
I am a newbie when it comes to PCs and anything therein.
March 1 I updated vista, bitdefender, and downloaded kies for samsung galaxy s 2. i was on the pc for a couple of hours and went to sleep with it off. I turned it on the next day and it took 30 minutes for it to even get to the desktop. Although I could do ctrl+alt+delete and that would show as well as the task bar. When i open the task bar, i found that the processors were not active and barley any ram was being used. Which i thought to be weird for a startup sequence.

I restarted in safe mode and it came up like normal in 2 minutes and i rolled back a few days with system recovery which didn't help. I also uninstalled kies program and that didn't make a difference.
I am just very confused and frustrated at this problem any help would be appreciated.

A:strange start-up in normal but fine in safe mode.

I know you said you uninstalled Kies but, run msconfig.exe and look in the Services and Startup tabs to see if it's still there and enabled.

While there, you could also set up to do a clean boot to see if any other program might be causing the problem.

In the services, checkmark the box for hiding the Microsoft apps and then disable the rest.

In the Startup, disable everything.

Reboot and see if you get the same problem.

Hi there,

My wife has Lenovo G560 laptop (16 months old), and just recently it's started doing a few things it shouldn't.

When powering up she'll press the 'power' button, and it'll come up with either a totally black screen, or the opening 'Lenovo' splash screen (where it's loading stuff, I guess) before either staying there locked up or going black. Restarting is the only way to get things up and running - and then it always takes at least 1 re-boot every time - often 2 or 3 reboots.

It's steadliy become more frequent, to the stage it's at now where it happens every time.

I had suspicions that a recent install of Photoshop might've been the culprit, but uninstalling it has made no difference. A Malwarebytes scan resulted in some viruses, which have been removed by the program, and scans now come up clean. Seems System Restore was turned off (It's on now)

Any suggestions much appreciated,

A:Solved: Start laptop - sometimes black screen, sometimes fine.

Ignore this one. Turns out it's a dying HDD. Thanks.

I have a pc that's been sitting for about 2 years now, worked great before. Went to plug it back in and it won't start. I assumed the power supply was at fault at first. The green standby light is lit on the motherboard, but just to test I jumped the green and black cables on the 24 pin connector and everything worked great. Reset the CMOS, still no luck. Then I went to check the power switch by jumping the two PWR SW prongs with a screwdriver.

Now here's the weird part, it started up fine the first 2 times. Went to connect the monitor and start it back up with the screwdriver...nothing. I used a different tool to jump the switch, and strangely it worked just fine again. Now, its back to not working, tried several different metal tools and nothing. I have no idea why the switch is only working intermittently? I just tested everything again by jumping the 24 pin connector and that still works just fine.

A:PC wont start with pwr jumper, power supply fine

Even more weird, I've found if I jump the green and black wires on the 24 pin, pc starts, remove the jump, pc shuts down, then I'm able to jump the PWR switch and the pc starts as its supposed to. I've tested this 3 times and it never fails
Why would the switch only work after jumping then removing the jump on the 24 pin???

I am running an older Dos based accounting program AccPac Plus.

The program worked fine until yesterday.

The command line for running the program is
R:\PLUS.EXE /v3 /Uc:\accpac /Sc:\accpac /Pc:\accpac

The /U /P and /S are to designate locations of personal startup files for the program.

If I run it using Start/Run it runs ok.

If I run it using a desktop shortcut, which I have done for years, it won't find the personal startup files on my C drive, but rather use default files located on the R drive.

I am running XP PRO SP2. Last XP update was last week and I have used the program many times since.

The only thing out of the ordinary is that someones USB flash drive the I put used on my machine had the following virus on it. W32.SillyFDC

Symantec caught it right away. I have since scanned my machine fully and run a chkdsk.

No other users are experiencing the same problem.

A:Program runs fine from Start/Run but not from a desktop shortcut

A:ASUS KV8-X-SE boots fine, when programs start it reboots

Could be any number of things, but the most common cause of system reboots is drivers.

Have a look here:

And try to elimate each step. One of them is likely your problem.

Good luck!

Last night i closed my laptop when it had about 2 mins of battery remaining. This is normally fine.

However, when i went to turn it back on again and went throught the 'windows did not shut down properly... choose a mode etc'

The screen went white after the little windows sign came up. I could not do anything like task manager etc.

Then i ran in safe mode and the screen loads fine etc and i get to the desktop.

I want to do a system restore but you cant do anything on safe mode -.-

Any ideas?

Hi Guys, i just installed a new CPU today along with a 12cm chasis fan which is connected to my motherboard, and also another fan connected to the PSU(4pin molex).

The computer runs absolutely fine and the cpu installed fine but when i press the button to start my computer for the first time, it comes on for literally 1sec(enough time to see the light come on briefly) before turning off again for aprox 3seconds. After the 3 seconds it then decides to start up and runs fine as normal.

Any info on this would be very much appreciated as im hoping its nothing and not a problem in the making.

Really weird problem here. For some reason, some app links won't launch from Objectdock or Rocketdock, yet others will. The only thing they have in common is that they're either Microsoft programs like Freecell or Snipping Tool, or programs that are used to modify Windows like Classic Shell Explorer and Start Menu Customizer.

At the same time, other MS programs like Media Player, and 3rd-party tweaking apps like Ultimate Windows Tweaker, work launch just fine with both docks.

This issue is only happening in the docks. The Start Menu and Explorer will load these programs normally. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Like I said, weird. Any ideas?

A:Some apps won't work in Objectdock/Rocketdock, fine in Start Menu

With the Snipping tool I had to use
C:\Windows\Sysnative\SnippingTool.exe as the link to it.

whenever i play some games(not all), after sum time of playing my lappy crashes and then when start it up again it shuts down half way into the booting process. this happens continuously.
i leave it and wen i try say 15 mins later, windows start up recovery centre opens and i get to restore my computer, everything works fine till i start playing again
and i know its not the games fault co i played a game, finnished it and uninstalled it. later wen i wanted to play it again, this prob starts happeneing with it too

A:lappy crashing and refusing to start up immediately. works fine later

Work through these troubleshooting steps.

Pay particular attention to the steps to check for overheating, comb the logs and System Resources for causes.

The steps lead to a possible Repair Install as a last resort before Clean Reinstalling which is always a fresh start actually much better than getting a new computer since they are all larded with bloatware which we show you how to tame and a clean reinstall eliminates.
