Find number of files in a folder?

Q: Find number of files in a folder?

OK. I have been trying to figure this out for over a week now with no luck. I know I can right-click and select properties to see the number of files and sub-folders in any folder. My problem is that I would like to know the number of files NOT INCLUDING hidden files and folders.

Is there any way to get the count to disregard the hidden and system files without manually counting, as the folder I am really interested in has thousands of files in hundreds of folders and I need to check on a regular basis?

A: Find number of files in a folder?

You could uncheck 'Show hidden folders', then check the count by opening the folder and using the hotkey ctrl+A to select all the files in the folder. The number of files should be shown in the status bar (at bottom left).

That said, if there are sub folders, ctrl+A will select those and the files in them will be counted as well. You can circumvent that by manually selecting just the files in the given directory (mouse click 1st file, hold down shift, mouse click last file).

If you generally show hidden files, you can make quick work of the process by adding show/hide hidden files to the context menu.

Hi everyone,
I am working on a simple crawler that downloads web pages and stores it on my computer on local drive. The crawler works fine for the simple task I needed. My problem is, the crawler fails to create files and save the web pages once the number of files in the folder is around 630. The crawler works normally but the files are not created. I think this has something to do with Operating System than the crawler. Disk quota is off on the computer. I run Windows 7 Professional 64 bit version on laptop. Do you see any reason why this happens?

A:Problem with number of files in a folder

More likely that the script processing limit(cpu time) is reached.
Unless you have quotas enabled, the file count is not limited to this smallish number.

I find this to be objectionable and may easily violate DRM and Copyright laws.

In one of my Windows 7 Libraries, I have a folder 'A'. When I click to open it, another folder 'B' opens. When I click on 'B', the real folder I need, 'C' opens. It is only 'C', that contain my files. A and B are empty folders. The result is that I have to make three clicks to get at my files. This mishap occurred when I was re-arranging my files and folders, probably due to finger trouble!

Could you please help me remove A and B.

Regards.

I would move the files in the "c" folder to a new temp folder on the desktop, then delete the tree, B C folders. Now the top level folder A should be empty, move the files there and remove the desktop folder.

Hello,

I'm sharing a folder on a Windows XP computer with 15,000 sub-folders/files over a small network. This folder used to be hosted in Windows Server 2003 machine. But after I made the switch to XP, accessing the shared folder over the network takes over 1 minute for the files to list.

Does anyone know what might be causing this slow performance? And is it related to the XP operating system?

Any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ralph

Hello Everyone,

I've got a strange problem where E:\Videos has just disappeared. It could be as a result of me trying to extract a .rar file which caused winrar to freeze, as a result of this I decided to change the Virtual Memory of E:\ thinking that caused it but this didn't help.

Then when I started the computer this morning the folder was gone. I've tried searching for it and its content using the advance search to include hidden files but still found nothing. The strange part is that the remaining files are worth around 15gb but E:\ says it has 20gb in use - the other 5gb accounting for my videos I presume.

I've scanned E:\ with Avast but found no viruses but interestingly it mentioned "E:\found.000\dir0001.chk\movie1" during its scan, can these be used to help?

I've also ran the OS boot disk to search for problems but it found none and neither did the Error-Checking. I did a system restore too but found that doesn't affect documents.

UPDATE: I've downloaded a Trial of a program called " Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional" and it has been able to find and open "E:\found.000\dir0000.chk\Movies\Movie1.avi" and allowed me to play it with VLC with no problem - my geuss is this narrows it down to an error with explorer.exe, will I require a complete new install of Vista to fix this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks for reading,

Adam.

I don't understand much of what you typed but don't search the whole computer. Open Widows Explorer, click on a folder and search that specific folder. Use the search field in the upper right corner.

Ok, I'm bascially computer illiterate. I think my computer is infested with adware. I have run my antivirus and have come up with the following files:istactivex.dll; mediaticketsinstaller.ocx; and ole32ws.dll. Norton is unable to delete these files. I've tried to view the temporary internet files folder, but am unable to access subfolders with the Content.IE5 name. One of the description states: The compressed file istactivex.dll within c:\Documents and Settings\My name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.I#5\C5YJ4DEJ\0006_regular[2].cab is a Adware threat. But I can't find the folder or figure out how to delete it. I've already deleted all files in the temporary internet folder through control panel/internet options. Any suggestions on how to proceed to get rid of this stuff? I've cleaned the computer using Spybot but this still comes up through Norton. Also - what do you know of CWS? ...and some other problems.

I downloaded some .exe file earlier today that installed all this crap on my computer. I've been cleaning it up for hours literally. I've gone down my list of programs in Add/Remove Programs and there is one called IE Host that I can't get rid of. When I click uninstall, it does something where it says 'downloing uninstaller' (yes downloing), then it asks me why I'm uninstalling and then says uninstall complete but it's still there and if I click uninstall again, that process starts again.

I ran Spybot and AdAware and was able to get rid of a bunch of it but there are two files that are set to run at startup that I can see by going to msconfig but I can't find the actual files to delete and no virus scan or program will pick up the files to delete. Even if I uncheck them to run at startup, one of them runs every time I start Internet Explorer. I'm also getting a pop up that asks me if I want to keep running scripts and the URL is something like oinadserve.com. The files are:

Chances are you don't have permission to open the file. Follow these steps to check this

- Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Under Group or User names, click your name to see the permissions you have
- Click Edit, and then click to check the check boxes for the permissions that you need, and then click OK

Hello

I recently sent my laptop to HP for a fan repair and before I sent it off I accidentally deleted my Downloads folder and then cleared out my recycling bin. Well, I got my laptop back today and went to download a few files. After doing so, I realized that I can't find those downloaded files.

I have no idea where those files went. They were .rar and ZIP files and I can't seem to locate them. Does anybody know how I can find those downloaded files (where they might have ended up with the Downloads folder gone) and how I can restore my Downloads folder?

Thanks

I have a folder in my documents full of music samples to make songs out of and I am trying to move the folder to an external hard drive and every time I do I get the following error "Could Not Find This Item" "This Is No Longer Located in C:\<username>\My Documents\Music_maker\ Verify the item's location and try again"

the folder and files are definitely there because I am able to play every single music sample in Windows Media Player just fine, I am just unable to move these files because of that error message that constantly keeps preventing me from moving them, same error for deleting the folder... right click properties shows it is there and it shows a folder size (832MB) but that error STILL exists for no reason at all!

the folder I am trying to move is called strictly_80s and the error seems to happen with EVERY subfolder in the Music_maker folder!

A:Where do I find my ssid number?

Open your browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address text box. This should access your Linksys router.

The default user name should be blank or admin.
The default password should be admin.

Once you are able to access your router, navigate to the SSID entry.

If you are using default user name and password for your router, it would be a good idea to change them to help secure your router from outsiders. Be sure to write them down and store in a safe place because, trust me, you will not remember them 8 months down the road. It's not a good idea to use your real name for anything.

I need to match the list of numbers (left) to the table on the right and return the first number in the first column of the table. The problem is the number I need to match on the left is hidden in the table.. sometimes there is one extra number added to it, sometimes two extra numbers. I don't care about these extra numbers, just want to know if my number on the left is in the table ANYWHERE! Any suggestions??

Column A Column C Column D Column E Column F Column G
6012 1 96012 139099 59162 226248

So, for example.. I am trying to match 6012 with one of the columns in the table. I need it to return 1 (column C) is 6012 appears anywhere in the table, regardless of what number is appearing before the number.

Scenario: the spreadsheet is protected and the user can only delete a row by using a macro. The macro will unprotect the spreadsheet, delete the row, then protect it again. The spreadsheet has description and header rows at the top and summary rows at the bottom. The user may only delete data rows in the middle.

Task: the macro must determine the current row number and verify that it is legal to delete that row.

I am a newbie to VB and can't find a function which will do this for me. I thought that RW would help, but I can't get it to work. Any help will be much appreciated.

I have a folder in my C:/Web dir. called Com. It's where all my internet stuff resides. I just went to make a new folder, and I wanted to call it Com2. Nope. I tried Com3, then Com4 - Windows will not allow me to do this; I get an error that says "The specified device name is invalid." Huh?!? Com works. Com-1 works. So does Com10. Com 1 even works. But not Com1. And again, that's ANY number from 1-9. Any dir., any drive.

The workaround is easy enough; give the folder any other name. But can someone explain to me why Win7, Vista, and XP do not allow for this?

PGP Conventional Encryption has worked finally. I tried all the obvious stuff first like closing all non-essential volumes (virtual disk that are created and encrypted by PGP), transferring the files to another drive, etc.

On a slightly separate issue. I did have some data corruption involving an older and separate group of files. However I deemed that to a hardware failure or a OS/Software failure. Figured it might provide valid insight.

Update: Now my PGP conventional encryption, non .exe file generation worked. I don't understand why it wouldn't work? Going to rename the source folder and try again. MY encrypted .exe file generation with PGP should work.

I tried again. PGP conventional encryption and PGP Zip both encrypted fine. I tried creating a PGP .exe file and again it failed and files are missing; why?

I've done a full virus scan and spyware scan. No known threats detected that would cause this. I've done two system wipes in the past months. I've also removed, reinstalled, and or repaired the installation of both a... Read more

I have a String Array, that captures 10 numbers from a user. I now need to know how to find the largest number that was entered by the user. This is the code that I am using to this point:

Code:

public class Test
{
public static void main (String args[])
{

int tick;

String[] arrayuserinput = new String[11];
for (tick = 1; tick < arrayuserinput.length; tick++)
{

arrayuserinput[tick] = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter Number" + "# " + tick + ":");

if (Integer.valueOf(arrayuserinput[tick]) > 0 && Integer.valueOf(arrayuserinput[tick]) <= 29)
{

}
else
{
JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Please enter a number between 0 and 29");
}

}

//Terminate the Application
System.exit(0);
}
}

But I don't know how to go back in and add a way to find the largest number entered?

I don't know if this is the right forum, but...
This is for a school assignment. I need to find out the total number of characters plus carriage return (or enter) in a text document. This is easy, if I just copy and paste it into Word and look at the word count. It's number of characters with spaces + number of lines - 1.
Next I need to find number of unique characters including carriage return (or enter) in the text document. It is a very long text, 167,121 characters. I'm not gonna count them.

I was wondering if there was a free computer program that did that. I'm using a mac.

Hi all, apologies if this is in the wrong location or already answered elsewhere. I have limited knowledge in writing macros from scratch and after searching for guides for a while I thought it best to ask here. Please point me in the direction of advice if already stated elsewhere.

I'm looking to write a macro that does the following

Opens workbook B
Looks for first blank cell in range B5:B5000
Returns value (copy & paste into workbook A Cell E5) in column A directly left of first blank cell
Copies data from workbook A cell F5 into the blank cell
Saves workbook B and closes

Thanks very much for any help.

A:Solved: Excel macro find next available number

Try the macro below. Just change the portions that are highlighted in red. The first highlighted portion represents the name and path of Workbook B. The second and third highlighted portions represent the sheetname that you are using from Workbook A. I normally don't like using the Activeworkbook Object in my code and prefer to hard code the actual workbook names but I did it this way below since it's quick and requires less changes on your part.
Code:
Sub CopyData()

vName = ActiveWorkbook.Name

Workbooks.Open ("[COLOR="Red"]C:\Test.xls[/COLOR]")

If Range("B6").Value = "" Or IsEmpty(Range("B6")) Then
vNextRow = 6
Else
vNextRow = Range("B5").End(xlDown).Offset(1, 0).Row
End If

Workbooks(vName).Sheets("[COLOR="Red"]Sheet1[/COLOR]").Range("E5").Value = _
Range("A" & vNextRow).Value

Range("B" & vNextRow).Value = _
Workbooks(vName).Sheets("[COLOR="red"]Sheet1[/COLOR]").Range("F5").Value

ActiveWorkbook.Save

ActiveWorkbook.Close

End Sub

I recently seem to have developed a problem with my windows 7 (almost new) laptop (it was new when I got it), and that is that Installshield keeps giving me a riddlesome ominous message in a pop-up saying "error - number 5'. Anybody would think it was calling in a flaming boat, and it says for me to visit the installshield website for supposedly more information. I spend a long time on there not really finding anything out about 'error number 5'. So I thought I'd pass this challenge on to the more clever people - you lot - to see if I could get an answer to what it might actually mean, and what needs to be done to correct the problem.

Thanks in advance.

A:Installshield error number - can't find a thing about it!

Error 5 is a printer error.If you don't have a default printer selected or no printer driver installed you will get this error. To resolve this go to Control Panel> Printers. Highlight your Printer and go to File on then Menu Bar and choosing 'Set as Default'.Edit: The error 5 that I located is a printer 5 error. This is not applicable to the problem in this topic. I spilled coffee on my laptop today and it went blank, i need to save my info and tried locating a model number, but there is no name, no model number, no serial number, no service tag, nothing, absolutely nothing.

There is a white sticker on the back and when i peeled it off, it just says Service Tag label 71.5x5.5mm
This is the most astounding stupid thing i have ever seen from a tech company and I have been in IT for over 20 years.
Its unbelievable and I want someone at Dell to respond what an ordinary person in an emergency who has lost everything in an accident would have to do to find this secret bit of information, the model number of my laptop.
I cannot find anything except a big DELL logo on the top of the lid, thats it.....it wont turn on, or I could have gone into the BIOS etc...now what do I do?

Hi All,

When creating a Storage Spaces Pool, the member drives are no longer listed in Disk Management.

My system has been hanging every so often and when I checked the Windows logs, I see a lot of critical error messages about Harddisk/DR10 having a bad block. Since Disk Management no longer lists the individual pool drives, how do I find out which DR10 is one of the pool member drives?

I've tried mini partition tool to see if it can see the drives, it doesn't. It can only see what Disk Management sees and that's only non-storage spaces pooled drives.

I rebuilt my system and lost one functionality. When I copy a file, say a "Text.txt", using Explorer to the same folder, I get a new file named "Text - Copy.txt." Before I rebuilt, I would get "Text_2.txt." If I pasted again, I used to get "Text_3.txt."

I checked another Windows 7 system and it works like mine used to, i.e. appends a version number to the filename when copied to same folder instead of appending " - copy."

System: HP Compaq 6910P laptop
Memory: 2GB
CPU: Intel T8300
OS: Windows 7 Professional 32 bit
All drivers and enhancements loaded from HP's site (same as before)
Member of domain, I have local admin privileges but not domain admin and some settings are controlled via the domain admin.

The other system that works like mine used is a:
System: Toshiba L505D-S694
Memory: 2GB
OS: Toshiba Windows 7 Home Premium 32 (upgrade from Vista 32)

Is there a setting in XP home and pro where you can set the number of pixels in the name from 180, which appears to be standard, to about 300 -----and have it reset all the files in folders set to open in "details" ---but do it all at once (registry or somewhere else), so I won't have to change this setting for each folder set to open the files with "details". I've got all this space out in the right 1/3 of the window and I would just like to set all the folder options which are to open with the "details view" to open with the file name at about 300 pixels instead of 180 pixels, so I won't have to reset each one manually. I've always wondered exactly what is considered a file, but never dwelt on it, as far as those within the OS volume. However, I noticed while defragging the volume containing my movie collection, it states that there are 5,331 files, but the only things in that volume are 1,028 movies, which are 1 file each. Why does the defragger see so many more?

A:Number Of Files

is it possible its counting hidden files and the actual folders ,if each movie is in a folder then thats an extra 1028 files plus if you have a cover or poster they are files ,and if you are using mediabrowser and have backdrops then each of those will add to the file count.

I'm running Windows XP Professional Edition on a Dell Dimension 9100 desktop. Every day my Norton Anti-Virus scan lists the total number of files scanned, and that number increases every day -- but the increase seems larger than the number of new files I create. I'm sure the system creates new files for various reasons, but I worry about malware lurking. My total number of files started around 225,000 two years ago when I bought this computer, and it's up to 253,000 now. The daily increase seems to be in the range of 50 to 300 files. Does anyone know if this is normal, and if it's not, what can be done to fix it? Thanks.

I run a Norton Anti-Virus scan of my computer every day, and I am mystified by the total number of files it reports having scanned -- the number goes up by several hundred per day. Totals for the last three days were 285,787 - 286,301 - 286,722. I've deleted my Temp files using ToniArts EasyCleaner, and it did clear out several hundred old files -- but each day since I used it, the number still goes up. I have cleaned out my Recycle Bin and deleted temporary internet files, but the total number of files continues to increase. I do download some .jpg files each day, but not nearly this many -- maybe 25 per day. Why would my total number of files increase so much every day? I use Windows XP on a Dell desktop I bought in 2005. Thanks!

I did some breif googling and was unable to find an answer, I may have just overlooked it. Does anyone know offhand how many can go on a dvd? I imagine it depends on how you burn it, ISO or UDF but I don't know for sure.

This question came up when I was asked to back up an old mac hard drive so a guy could get the files off of it after a PSU failure, where it wasn't worth buying a new PSU (since the computer hadn't been used in years anyway). The hard drive was only 2 gig (yeh the Mac came from back when legal Mac clones existed) so it will fit on a single layer dvd.

Just was wondering how many files could go on a DVD.. I'm sure its probably 10-100x the amount that were on the drive but I was curious.

A:What is the max number files allowed on a DVD?

Generally, writable DVD discs come in 12cm (120 mm) and 8cm (80 mm) diameter sizes. The most commonly used is the larger 12cm type

A (12cm) "4.7 GB" media has 4.7 * 1 000 000 = 4.700.000.000 bytes / 1024/1024/1024 = 4.377 GB

4.7 GB disc stores 4.7 billion bytes [4:700,000,000 bytes 1000 = 4,700,000 KB 1000 = 4,700 MB 1000 = 4.7 GB]
Note: usable space may in fact be smaller ie around 4.27GB, due to sectors and disc formatting

Further:

Writable DVD discs can either be single (SS 4.7 GB) or double-sided (DS 9.4 GB) or double-sided double-layer ~17 GB (rare)

The amount of information that can be written is determined by the disc?s recording capacity as well as the physical and logical formats used.
All writable DVD formats devote the same amount of usable space to data (2,048 bytes per sector). DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM specify the number of sectors available for user information (4.7 GB DVD+R/+RW 2,295,104 sectors, 4.7 GB DVD-RAM 2,295,072 sectors) so disc capacity can be calculated by multiplying the user data area size by the number of disc sectors. For example, a 4.7 GB DVD+R disc: 2,048 bytes/sector x 2,295,104 sectors = 4,700,372,992 bytes. This rounds to roughly 4.7 GB (decimal notation).

DVD-R and DVD-RW, on the other hand, do not stipulate the number of sectors that are dedicated to user information but simply that a minimum capacity must be available on the disc. In the case of DVD-R (version 1.0) this is 3.95 (12 cm) and 1.23 (8 cm) bil... Read more

What is more confusing is that some scan INSIDE compressed files like zip and rar, some even UPX packing. etc., while others don't or are not configured to or only do so to a limited extent blah blah blah.

What I suggest you do to be fair to all the programs is to set them to scan ALL the files they can possibly can.. including compressed files/archives.

I don't know about panda, but it SHOULD detect Eicar if properly configured. My theory is that since you have multiple antivirus programs running at once...(correct me if im wrong) that one program detected it first and prevented the other program from scanning it...

And remember to update all the antivirus programs.

I used to have win 98 and now that I got a new computer it has xp and I am slowly learning how to use it, I wonder is there a way to tell how many files are in a folder such as temp internet files other than manually counting them? win 98 gave a count at the bottom of the window.

I have a one year old computer running WIndows XP. Each week while running Norton Scan, my files seem to increase by a couple of thousand a month. My computer is not running slow and everything seems normal but I now have 185,000 files on it. I daily delete cookies and temporary internet files using the tools function on the menu. I am not downloading anything other than the updates from Norton and WIndows. This has been happening for about six months. Why are so many files being added? Thank you for any help you can offer.

I am copying (not moving) 45,000 very large RAW image files from one HD to another on the same computer using the standard Windows copy routine. It is set to take a considerable time. It occurs to me that there might be faster ways. Any ideas please?

A:Transfer large number of files

You could try something like robo-copy which may be a little faster. What throughput are you getting between the drives?

On my recently deceased computer, I had used for many years a freeware program, Easy Cleaner (EC), by Toni Arts, with reliability. It also cleaned my registry and gave me information about duplicate files and more. Applying it to my new computer, above, a file search yielded about 400MB of "unnecessary" files, mostly *.tmp but also some *.bak and a few other types. When I tried to delete them, using EC's delete button, only a small quantity - of the order of 50Mb - were deleted. The 7/8ths that remained were described as possibly in use.

In my late computer, I never had so many *.tmp files found by EC in the first place, let alone described as possibly in use.

Are these observations reasonable for Windows 7, so many unnecessary files and so many of them "possibly in use"?

I have tried the OS's "Disk Cleanup", but it does not remove any more *.tmp files than EC.

Some time last year when I ran a full-system scan on Microsoft Security Essentials, the total number of files scanned was 375,752. I recorded this number, because I was curious about how many files MSE scans.

I don't usually pay much attention to this number, but yesterday when I completed a full-system scan the total came out as 344,937.

Since I haven't really deleted much I was curious about why the number had dropped like this. I figured that MSE must be skipping some files like NIS 2012 does after repeated scans, but when I restart the computer and run the full-system scan again, the total comes out different each time. I've even tried turning-off and then turning-on real-time protection to see if it would make a difference, but the numbers continue to fluctuate each time.

So far I've had the following results:

326,542
344,442
276,683
344,654

I'm probably worrying over nothing, but is this normal and what is the cause of this?

Thanks in advanced,

- Unlucky Pete

A:Solved: MSE Number of Files Changing

I will stand corrected but I think MSE reports items scanned, rather than actual files

However the reason for the slight differences are that until a virus definition update MSE remembers the items scanned and will not scan them all again, unless it recognises changes
The exception to that is the virus definition update when it will scan more or less all

In simple terms, MSE remembers some of the files it scanned and will not scan again unless the file has changed.

This is why the first scan takes longer than subsequent scansClick to expand...

and after a virus definition update

Here is the situation.
We work a lot with IP Cameras (or sometimes called network cameras). Most of these IP cams have the capability to send jpg images to an ftp server when motion is detected.
The jpg image is about 40 to 50k in size and are stored in a folder named for the current date, so each day a new folder is created at midnight and all of the images for that 24 hour period are stored there.
Anyway, what is happening is that when these cameras ftp this information to an xp machine on the local 100mb network, some folders end up with A LOT of jpg images in them. In one day, one camera can store over 100,000 images in a folder. Opening these folders takes a long time...sometimes up to 5 minutes just to see the contents.
I have tried both using and not using File Indexing, but it seems to be the same speed either way.
From what I understand, the main resource File Indexing uses is memory. The systems these images are being saved to are WinXP Pro machines running at 1GHZ minimum to 4GHZ maximum and memory ranges from 512MB to 2GB.
I watch the task manager while loading these directorys and CPU is never over 4% so I assume the CPU has little to do with whatever is causing the system to take so long reading the files.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can speed up the process of viewing these folders with so many images in them?

I was scanning my hard drive for viruses and noticed the anti-virus product (ESET NOD32) was taking a long time in folders
in CONTENT.IE5 (under my id's TemporaryInternetFiles). When I started digging around, some of the folders (which have
names like BXBAG455) appeared to have over 100,000 files in them. I regularly clean my cache out (limit is set to 75Mb),
why are there so many files in these folders and why aren't these folders being maintained automatically?

All the files exist on a server 2008 R2 NAS shared folder. Our users can copy files from a zipped folder to another non-zipped without issue on their XP workstations.  On the new Windows 7 workstations, neither copy/paste, ctrl+c/ctrl+v, nor
drag and drop move all the selected files to the destination.  The progress popup shows progress and then just disappears without event  nor error.  The destination folder will contain some of the selected files but seldom all.    I
have been able to recreate the problem and have applied several TN posted solutions but the issue remains.  Has this been seen by anyone else?  I am not interested any third party apps or complicated workarounds being my end users are not technical.

Hi guys

Just to get it out of the way, I have already searched the forum for help (and the web),
and I already found a thread in here explaining what to do
write techspot.com in front of /vb/all/windows/t-5750-Access-denied-to-a-folder-merged-with-Partition-Magic.html
(i can't post links because i'm new here)

But, I can't find the freakin' security settings in Partition Magic

I've been looking through them all "general, view, disk, tools and so on"
but anything saying security I cannot find.
Is it me or my partition magic that retarded :-S

I have to admit it's a craked version, but it didn't complain about anything when I typed the serial just -
"thanks for using partition magic and so on"

When I try to access the merged folder this is what comes up
F:\g is not accessible. Access denied.
The same thing a unformattede harddrive would say.
So is it still a security thing?
Or is it my partion magic that needs changing?

Please forgive my newbi-ways

p.s
i'm using XP home edition (from dell) if that helps

A:Folder problem with Partition Magic, can't open merged files/folder.

Although your issue may be easily resolved

TechSpot cannot help with cracked software - as the cracked software may be faulty itself.
Let alone the legal issues

Hello I hope you can help, you have before and that was great!

I have had no problems since you last helped me but I ran a Spyware Doctor scan and found around 30,000 .exe files that were obviously some kind of trojan. I tracked them down and found them in the System Volume Information folder where I the system restore points get filed. I went into safe mode, activated permissions to get into the folder and deleted all of the files. This worked for a while then they just reapeared again!

I found somewhere that someone said to just deactivated the system restore service which again worked but hasn't corrected the problem.

I have just run another scan and it again has found over 30,000 files (around 2gb of data) in the RECYCLER folder (which I understand in the deleted files area).

Can you help me firstly get rid of them and help me find what ever it is that is causing these problems and get rid of that forever!

I really rely upon and need my laptop for work and this is seriously slowing things down.

Can someone help?!

I accidentally deleted my RECIPE FOLDER containing several categories of recipes with several files in each folder. I could not find my deleted files in MY Recycle Bin so I recovered my RECIPE FOLDER by restoring my system to an earlier date. Now that I have recovered My RECIPE FOLDER, all my files are now script and cannot be read. These are recipes that I have been collecting for over 8 years. It's a treasure to me. How do I return these script files to normal. My folder was stored on an HP Pavilion Laptop using Windows 7.
Thanks to any helpers on this forum who can assist me.....Carlyle

I've just started using my new desktop pc which I bought specifically to download stuff from the internet and to my horror it wants to save everything in my temp internet files folder. Does anyone know how to change this please? I've tried messing about with the security settings but that didn't solve it. I've seen a few threads on here but have yet to find an answer.

Now wishing I'd stuck with my old pc on XP!!!

Thanks

Hi,

I am running IE8 on Windows 7 (Home Premium 64bit). My Temporary Internet Files folder is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5. I have enabled Show Hidden Files and Folders and removed the tick for Hide Protected Operating System files.

I've noticed that streamed .wma file appeared as .dat file in the temporary internet folder. I've tried copying it to the desktop and changed the extension to .wma but it will not play at all. I have the same problem in another laptop running Windows Vista. In Windows XP platform, I have no problem retrieving the streamed files as they are saved in the original file format (i.e. .mp3 or .wma) in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Please advise.

Thank you & regards

A:.wma files appears as .dat files in Temporary Internet Files folder

I'm have difficulty understanding the real problem since I have always set my browsers to delete at the end of a session, I use CCleaner to delete junk (read stuff in the temp folder).

In any case, you can help us by updating your system specs.

Dear all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to increase the number of recent files that show in the File menu in MS Excel 97?

Currently I am showing 9, but would like to increase this to 15 or so - can this be done?

Thanks peeps,

mrwendal

A:Excel - increasing number of 'recent' files

I was going to suggest typing 15 in the selection box, but I just tried that in Excel 2000 and it popped up a window saying the number has to be between 1 and 9.

I don't think you can tweak it past that.
